Will Big Ten be next conference to cancel its fall college football season?
"To what Was reported earlier today by Pete Family. Another mid American conference today. They've already canceled their false sports schedule. They say they're going to try to play college football in the spring. According to Pete Family. Big 10 presidents are meeting today they are considering or that what is on the table. Is that they would cancel football for the fall, impossibly moved to spring. Gordon. What we see from the Big 10 commissioner. There are reports out that he Courtesy of the Detroit Free Press. The Big 10 commissioner prefer spring college football season. Now let me break this down in a couple of different ways won a lot of people going to talk about covert. We are obsessed with covert. We're talking about Cove. It rightfully so in a lot of ways, That's something that we should take seriously. I have to remain cynical. I have to remain Questioning these type of things, because I think there's something else at hand here. And I'm not getting a lot of pushback on it. And I know that they bring up the spring schedule and I I hope it's about covert. I hope it's about health. I hope it's about the safety of people involved. I really do hope it's about that. I do. But I'm just not convinced it's all about that. I think that Yeah, they do care someone about it. Yes, sure. Absolutely. More. I think about this, the more I think that there is a turd on that punch bowl, and that turd was laid in there or around this time last week when the Pac 12 had their players have a list of demands. Even to the Pac 12 presidents. I got a bad feeling that that's part of this. You know, the big 10. Some of those players followed suit. I just thought it was really interesting that today I see a report. Courtesy of ESPN is well, a stadium that Big 10 players from the Ohio State University have said, Hey, we're good. We love the guidelines. We are ready to play. It happens today as the president's air about Teo me of the Big 10. Something doesn't seem right. Something seems a little off. So it makes me wonder about that type of thing. If this is about and I do think there's a percentage of it what it is. I'm not sure there. There is a concern about people. There's a concern about health and safety. And it will. Certainly I'm sure we'll get the people in here so they can. They're 22 year old athletes. They're they're healthy horses. They'd be perfectly fun. I know, man. I know more than likely. Yeah, they'd be perfectly fine. And we've been talking about it for a while. It takes is one even if it were one. I don't know if that were to happen, Hell. My gosh, This is an ugly conversation have but we have to have it is that there are guys who die of heatstroke every year. In high school and college football, and it keeps going And I would wonder even if a person were to die from this in college football. It would maybe keep going. But when we're talking about a list of demands from players where they want compensation, where they want equitable treatment. Wonder if that's a little bit too much for the university presidents. They think, Okay, we'll wait. Maybe we'll wait till spring.

"Where all of that stuff has been play and you want you start to wonder about how competitive this team khun B. Once you guys get back on the field, but also you know, is there Sort of. Ah, you know too much injury risk at this point, and are they going to need a few days to ramp up and have some workout so all that stuff is in play? It's really kind of a match. Another Major league baseball and the Cardinals are coordinating this whole thing. But, you know, let's see where they go with this. Talking with Mark Saxon, senior writer of the athletic He covers the Cardinal's. How would you assess the overall mood right now within the organization, extraordinarily anxious. Extraordinarily on which I think the players you know, are not always getting information. It's quickly as they perhaps could from major league baseball from teams. So it's a tense time and for the Cardinals, particularly these guys have careers. That are very important to them. Their legacies are very important, but I think they want to know for sure that when they get back on the field, they're going to be doing so in positions where they succeed, and all of that has to be taken into consideration. The first question they have to demonstrate is that they're taking care of these guys House above and beyond anything else, So it's sort of like this phase returned to play that they're trying to pull off. With all that anxiety and all the challenges we've been talking about now, for the last few minutes. What's the potential of Major League baseball shutting this team down for the rest of the year? I mean, I haven't heard that That's you know, sort of in play or imminent. But you would. After wonder. You know, if a team ends up having having somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 games that they have to make up, it may not be feasible and so Then the next question is, can they play fewer than 60? Can they place view? It's 50. A lot of questions to be worked out. But I don't think they'll try and find some answers before they come to anything approaching, pulled the Cardinals from the league or shut the league down. There does seem to be a fairly strong appetite by Major League baseball to get to that post season. Have some excitement for the fans to get to the postseason money for the owners, So that really seems to be. What we're talking about right now is certainly a lot of things that seem to be weighing on the side of keeping the Cardinals going. But mark in your opinion, should they be trying to get back out on the field here, Or is this just too daunting? Given the amount of time they're after Ms I think some have the TV on just some medical people would tell you if they're casting every day, And if they come to a conclusion through the contact, tracing that they have isolated the case, they were apart from each other for the appropriate number of days that there is a scenario where this restart is relatively state. Now I don't have all the answers to the questions I just matched. The team probably has more if they feel like they have not taken demonstrate that today experts for their consult, and Yeah, I do think there is a scenario where they get back on the field. But if that's not the case, then they absolutely should shut it down and You see multiple teams having outbreak? That's when you know, I think you can really say is this thing you know, worth it and it's feasible. That's Mark Saxon, senior writer for the Athletics, who Covers the ST Louis Cardinals and as they continue to try to get back to baseball at guaranteed rate field, Oliver Perez is warming up for the Indians in the bull pen. So it seems Brad hand when they do resume may be done and the tribal go to its sixth pitcher of the night. To try to get those final two outs grounds crew right now is dragging the infield. So signs seem to be pointing towards getting back to baseball here momentarily. But back to the Cardinals they have missed now more than a week's worth of games haven't taken the field since the 29th won't take the field till later this week, and you heard Mark Saxon mentioned Jack Hilarity who we've only seen out on the mound for one start this season, when he is out of the mound. He's locked in, but There's still one voice he can hear above all the others, Chris Connolly reports..

Dodgers Out-Slug Padres to Win High-Scoring Affair
"A stunning finish on the double play off the bat of the former dodger manny. Machado as the dodgers hold on at pet, go to win seven six, they win the series as well over the Padres, two games to one John Shea Jim Russell back with you here on the wrap up show, we said the padres lead baseball by the way and runs per game last. Last segment. They entered the day third in runs per game at five, and a half runs per game on the season and against scored six runs here today. So they've been very, very good offensively. But again, with the loss, they fall to seven and six on the season. Let's hear from the manager who was jacked for the first time in his career. Here's Jay Taylor game. Yeah, it's always good to see. You know the guys continue to battle and. You. Know we've we. Kind of felt that you know inside the. In the DUGOUT when we've been down never really feel like we're out of it and you know get get the heart of the order up and chance to you know always be in the game and. You know look at the end Mandy you know squared a ball up to to left field and and They made a hell of a play I. Mean it was A. Had to be you know a perfect throw and it was a perfect one hop throw and a intact. So but dancer question Yeah. It's. It's good to see him battling back and chip away and. You know we. You know we we came up short. Your first managerial ejection tonight. That's something that had been building up over the course of the game with Margaret Mature, as more of a spur of the moment reaction to that dish. Now. It's a, it's not built up minutes. Look. I think manny thought the ball was down I. thought it was down and. You know it either I go with me and he goes I'm guessing. So it's simple as up. Your thoughts on how? To. Handle. I thought you know Came in You know we were looking for a little softer landing but. The NFL west, there's there's no soft landing especially with the dodgers and. looking for a spark and. He gave up to ground balls got through and and then obviously Peterson clicking man you know. Peterson Click a couple balls tonight. You know and. But but I was impressed with how he went back out in the second inning and. I thought that was good and it's always nice to kind of You know finish on a on a higher note, and hopefully he gets some confidence and you know continues to go forth. Interesting admission there from JAS Tingler. We were hoping for a softer landing for Luiz Patino. Remember we heard yesterday literally yesterday when he was called up, he would not initially be pitching and high leverage spots. He makes his Major League debut, not not with the lead, but trailing four too. So you could argue the leverage component of it, but Jim again, he went left left right left with the VP that a left-wing cory seager who's read hide Jock Peterson three homers in the series including the homerun again. Again Against Patino and again, you're going to have to get him at one point or another. If you call them up, there's a reason you call it Emma but Jeez in the history of big league debuts, can it be much more difficult for Patina than the inning he had to deal with there could not have been more difficult. You're facing an MVP facing the guys at thirty six bombs last year who was notorious for being i. mean you saw in the home run Derby last year he. Is. Ball's. Chris Taylor their professional hitter. It's not an, there's no easy ways to face the dodgers especially in a four two game. You put him in there hopefully to have Jason, Taylor said this thing and there by the way it's four nothing before with two outs, TAT tease homers. So all of a sudden the dynamic of the game has changed it's chain, but but seniors already ready like you've already said he's GonNa Pitch the sixth, right? Like you wonder again at four nothing there you go. Down seven nothing whatever. But at fourteen like well, I'm back in the game and you don't want him to get up and then sit down again and I'm sure that's the reason why they put them in the game like look he's already ready. Maybe. It might be not the best time to put him in. But look, we just hit a two run bomb to to get us going hopefully and putting a guy in there where he is one of if not the top prospect on this in this organization, hopefully, we can get another spark on this guy route that is

Miami Marlins CEO Derek Jeter: COVID-19 Outbreak Happened Because Players ‘Let Their Guard Down’
"The cardinals of the latest team to suffer a corona virus outbreak resulting in their four game series in Detroit being postponed the I. of course, was the Marlins. Here's Derek jeeter their man in charge describing how his players behaved before all this happened. Oil. Down to on this particular trip was. Guys were around each other got relaxed in. Let Their guard down. There were getting together in groups. They weren't wear masks as as they should have been warned social distancing of the entire traveling party is responsible for not following. The Protocols has instructed that that includes staffs, players. Everyone is seen seen the impact. They've seen their teammates, you'd sick. As I bring the Jeff Passan and Jessica does in Jeeter did go on to say, I think this is important that he had seen as we all have people suggesting that when they were in Atlanta, maybe the guys went out to bars and clubs and all of that strongly refuted that notion he was saying, yes, they got lax in some of their protocols, but it wasn't like they were out there doing things that were like super erase. I just thought that was important to get in. That said Jeff, what does the League's response to the Marlins, and now the cardinals outbreaks tell us about what we should expect for the remainder of this season. Greenie tells us that Major. League Baseball is saying damn the torpedoes full speed ahead, we are going to play through outbreaks and we saw that with the marlins and we're seeing that now with the cardinals, seven players on the cardinals have covid nineteen six staff members as well. Those thirteen people have been sent back to Saint Louis Right now is the cardinals trying to figure out what exactly they are going to do. They played only five games, this season Greeny, and yet the fact that they're missing potentially at least another four games possibly another week of games on top of that. MLB says, okay. This is this is reality if we want to put a baseball season on traveling around the country in two thousand twenty and it is a reality that they are embracing in full because at this point, if there's going to be baseball Greenie they really don't have another choice Jessica. What do you think? I think that honestly, this is something that's going. We're going to see it again in another team I hate saying that, but you get one player and that's what jumps out to me. So much is now seen it with two teams in a week or one player has it, and then the next thing you know you blink and overnight five, six, seven players get it, and I think even talking with, Mike, Chill, the cardinals manager everyone realizing how quickly this can spread and that's something i. feel. Feel like we're gonNA see continued throughout the MLB
"baseball" Discussed on GSMC Baseball Podcast
"Just jumped out to my mind. Matt in those two teams finishing in dead last year last year two years ago, and then all of a sudden following year. You know, or you know this year. They finished in last place in the next year. They make some improbable turnaround. Both teams finish verse, place and wind up meeting in the world series. That's just so. So picturesque. It's almost like it was plotted. It was planned or something i. mean it was almost too perfect to imagine right so the twins in one thousand nine hundred. We're not as bad as d-box, or the brays were in their respective down, but nevertheless they still wound up finishing in last place in the AFC west, and what they were at the time they will that they were a seventy four and eighty eight team back then and again, not as bad as the debates but I mean. That's fourteen games under five hundred. You don't WanNa. Be That far below. The five hundred mark especially. If you know you've got a lot of ground to cover, you got a lot of ground to make up in those seasons now. They actually had some very good players on the team that hit very very well that you're one of them. Being Future Hall of Famer Kirby, Puckett, who later on in this segment I will share about what he did in that monumental. Run, in one ninety one I, mean he was, he was vital to their success i. mean he's a hall of fame. Baseball player one of the best twins players of all time. He's got numerous franchise records he to ninety eight year, twelve homers eighty, RBI's and they were at the worst seven games under five hundred, and they fell as far as thirty games out of first place in the division, and in the opening month of baseball. This was absolutely flooring. The only compiled seven total wins in the first month of baseball. The following year proved to be a miraculous by the twins coming back with a ninety. Ninety, five sixty seven finish, which was good for first in the West, and the actually started out the nineteen ninety one season on a really bad note, that was also another very odd coincidental thing that I noticed they were to nine in their first eleven games so imagine if you're twins fan sitting at a game. You're going back, okay? It's going to be a new season. One thousand, nine, hundred one. We've got this. You know things are going to turn around. Things are going to be on the up and up for us, and all of a sudden the first eleven games you watch they only winning two. Right there. You're like. Wow this could probably turn into the same thing that happened last year. I'm literally watching deja-vu. I'm living in a DEJA VU season right now. The tween again the twins seen just completely out of it. They seem to be putting together. The similar season was going to be a disaster. It looked like, but they were able to turn it around I, mean they? Almost like a flip of the switch that they were able to improve their year in June alone, they were nineteen and one through the first twenty games in the month, putting together a season long, and what is still today, a franchise record fifteen game winning streak to start that month. If you're going out that hot. In in one month of baseball, I mean you're already putting yourself way ahead of the curve and they really did that. They did a great job. It, you know piling together a whole bunch of runs that was able to propel them into first place in into a really good spot right before the all-star break that when he streak again like I said is still the longest in twins history, and they continued to play very well. The rest of the season carried that play well into the postseason. A lot of young talent that was able to mix well with that veteran talent with Kirby. Puckett I mean they had the rookie of the year that year and Chuck no block lot of great talent, lot of really good players, and so that mix of old and young is what really proved to be a great mix with the twins and I think a lot of teams still try and use that that dynamic that mentality. They want those young guys to take any sort of bits of information. They can from those older players. Players and those older players. I mean they've been there. They've done it. They've got the experience. They've gotten all the jitters out of the way. They've gotten all the nerves out of the way they know what it's like to perform at those huge moments in that those huge stages, whereas young guys not so much, and so the twins. It was really great that the twins were able to those veteran guys came back. They were able to kind of gather themselves. Get themselves ready for nineteen ninety-one. They bring in some fresh new players. Players kind of a fresh look, but still keep some very consistent and familiar faces on that team as well and I think that is what really proved to be a lot of their success in one thousand, nine hundred one season now they continue to move through the season. Get in the playoffs, and they're going up against the Toronto, Blue Jays in the ails. Yes, now, the twins I mean again. They were really good that you're the Blue Jays that was starting to be kind of when the Blue Jays started their little bit. Bit of Iran I mean there's the early part of the nineties. Where they went to a couple world series, they actually won won the world series during the nineties as well and I mean they were able to really put together a little bit of a run themselves. This is kind of the beginning for the blue. Jays also now the Blue Jays they were able to answer after the twins opened up the series with a win against Toronto. Blue Jays answer right back with one of their things are tied up after game, too. So they are ultimately, you know going in the game. Three things are even things are all knotted up..

"He was a part of the Wilmington blue rocks in his first year, the miners and twenty, nine, thousand, nine, the single, a team for the royals part of the All star futures game. He's six five to ten long frame. He's got a really Nice fastball touches around ninety, five, ninety six throws hard, and he's got a really good build for a pitcher. Pitcher. He needs to add a third pitch though he he's got really two main fastballs that he uses kind of a rising four seamer, and then in a two seamer that seems to dip down a little bit. He has that change banner ads some sort of off speed and he's going to be dangerous. I mean he i. mean he could be a serious serious earlier in the year or in the MLB. For years to come in all honesty, so that's the guy to definitely make note of and deathly watch out for because I mean. The royals. They're a team that you never know with them. You don't know I mean. They won the world series in two thousand fifteen it to back to back world series. They're kind of one of those teams that you know if they're going to be there. One of those window teams I like to call them. They're in their window for two or three years, and they have to take advantage of it and if they don't then, that's all that that that's all. She wrote for them and they really did a nice job. Job, at, taking advantage of that window, mean going to back to back world series and winning one of them. They took full advantage of that. So this is a team that could be building a big farm system, starting to build some young talent within the organization, and that could really benefit this organization. This team for years to come, so the second guy I want to talk about is in the white sox organization and like I mentioned earlier about them. They've got a lot of young talent, and this is one of the. Rising Stars in the organization and its Nick Magical second basement and the white sox organization, and again I bring him up because Tim Anderson is over at shortstop and he had an unbelievable year. He batted three thirty five was batting champion. The AL and they just need a second baseman right there just to play off of him. They need a really solid second baseman. A playoff him. He's got a great bad. He's got a really really quick swing. He's played for numerous minor league teams, but he's really been floating around the AAA system for the couple of years and he's. He's done a great job. I mean he's proven that he can perform at the highest level of the minors. He's been able to get it done. He's been able to. You. Know definitely have a lot of success as somebody who you know, normally would I say You know kind of just a typical second baseman. Nowadays I mean you really hear of any like big time powerful? I mean you've got. Dj Lemay he shore. You got other guys that have been very prominent, but in recent years. Not so much, and so he could be a guy that could rise up could really be a good piece for that Middle Infield, for the white sox and add another dine. Dynamic and be able to play off of Tim Anderson. WHO's over at shortstop now? The Third Guy I want to talk about is on the Oakland Athletics, and this is another team that does a fantastic job at developing talent in house in their own form systems. They do a really really really nice job of it, and they've really proven that it doesn't take the big superstars to win their one of these teams that Also combing through the Internet and I saw kind of a ranking or tier of different teams, and the athletics were like in the third tier, and I was very shocked by that, but I honestly thought about it a little bit more and I realized they do things in a very unconventional way. They don't go out and try and get those big name. You know free agents. Those guys are putting up unbelievable numbers. They're not putting up. You know blockbuster trades. They're developing talent inside of their organization. They're going out and getting added pieces that they would normally. Not Be able to get, but they're getting them for a fraction of what they normally water, or for a very good price, and so this guy for the athletics I think is going to be. A very promising player. That's Sean Murphy Catcher for them and again you got to remember the name because he was actually on the as roster last year, he was their starting catcher in the wildcard game, so he's a minor league guy. That's had experience he's had experienced also at you know one of the biggest stages in all in all sports wildcard postseason playoffs and he was able to. To bounce around AAA like I mentioned for a little bit. You know being signed by the as mentioned, and then he actually fun fact, he hit his first career home run and his MLB debut I. Mean I've always heard about guys? You know their first game. Their first at-bat there I swing whatever and they hit a home run. That's got to be such an exhilarating such A. Life changing experience really I mean. That's got to be a something that you can't ever get out of your mind. I mean it's etched in your head forever, and it will never ever go away. It'll never ever disappear in your. It'll be something that will stay with you forever, so he's a guy that is very young, rising up very quickly of the rankings, and the as organization, and there are teams that you know. They're really known for developing talent in house, not just the athletes, but there's other teams that have also done it. I mean you hear about the padres. They've got a great minor league system. The rays have a fantastic minor league system. The white sox again I. Keep going back to the white sox there. There's just a lot that could happen this year in again. With these taxi squads in makes you kind of wonder, you know. What kind of dynamic will that throw in couple? Guys get injured. All of a sudden you've got you know a couple of replacements. Field be guy behind the plate as a catcher. Whatever you never know, there could be a guy that has an unbelievable year as as a taxi squad guy, and he rises up and all of a sudden. You know you're hearing. His name left and right, and it's like who is this guy? We haven't even heard of him and it could. Be the start to some people's careers, it could be the beginning of some players. You know very illustrious careers. It only takes somebody one shot and one opportunity to really just get that. Get that chance, and then just run with it, and so it it just takes that one opportunity for them. You know whether it's somebody getting sick or somebody going down with an injury or somebody opting not to play somebody who wants to sit out whatever these guys. They're going to be ready. You know their taxi squad, guys. They're minorly guys. They're going to have their feet. Planted on the ground, ready to take off. Their cleats are going to be laced up. They're going to be excited to play plus not to mention their season's been canceled, so no matter what they're. Really anything to fall back on and on top of it. They already know that they're being called up to this very high level, and that there are literally right there at the major league level like they're literally knocking at the door, and it's GonNa make some guys even hungrier and and wanted even more and even more determined, and when you have that again, it brings out all the more talent, all the more ability out of guys so the minor leagues. It'll be very interesting I think there were definitely going to see a lot of frontier. League American Association independently so on so forth players that start to come up I mean we even start seeing a day where you know you never know some of these. MLB teams they start getting affiliated with these. Independently teams and these other. off-shoot Minor League associations that aren't affiliated with them and aren't necessarily part of the major, League Baseball Association so. It'll be interesting to see what happens with minors. Because again. You have to feel really bad for these guys. Don't get paid much as it is. Their season's been canceled and then they haven't been getting paid for anything so I mean me personally i. feel really bad for them. I mean my heart really goes out to those guys because they work their tails off again I. Know a lot of guys that are in the minors, and I couldn't imagine what they're going through right now I mean. Mean the sport that you love and the sports that you've grown up enjoying and now you're trying to make a career of it. It's getting a A..

"Of socks before ultimately being signed by the diamondbacks in two thousand thirteen, he was originally signed by the St Louis Cardinals, and this is what's very interesting. He was actually released by them, so he wasn't even able to get noticed by the major leagues coming out of the minors coming out of an affiliated league, he had to go to an independently to try and. And make some noise for himself and try to really make a name for himself and so again this is the guy that's a perfect example of someone who, without the opportunity to continue to play through the independently I mean he he could potentially not have a job. He could not have a job in baseball right now, so it is very possible for teams and. Not. That not for teams, but for players that they can make it onto a minor league team or on a major league team, so it'll be again. We'll see if there's GonNa be any sort of instances of that happening. I came across an article like I mentioned written by Zimmerman of the Hardball Times and he stated that on average there seems to be around two players per team that could sign by might major league teams during the year, which surprisingly enough I think is a really good number. I, mean I. I would have guessed it would have been less. You know you never hear about these teams or leagues, and they don't get the publicity or the attention so I, feel major league scouts. They'd rather go watch their affiliates, but it seems like there is actually a much more of an outpour and a much more of a turnout for these independently than I thought, but it seems to be you know a a really good thing for these guys that are coming out of independent leagues that are not typical. Minor Leagues if you will or typical farm systems affiliated leagues. And these leaks could also turn into very competitive leagues. Really I mean you think about it. Guys that are usually get drafted in the seven eight nine tenth tenth rounds, those guys are you know now we're going into even guys that are gonNA. Usually go in the tenth or Fifteenth Round. Those guys are still very good baseball players, but now they're not gonna be able to be taken. I mean it's going to really start to weed out the weak if you will end the draft and guys that are usually going in those later rounds, they're going to start falling onto those independently teams. They're going to start falling onto those rosters and. A couple of years from now we could potentially see an instance where these minor leagues actually become very competitive, very exciting to watch and something else that I noticed in the article that I jumped out at me I was very fascinated with, and I was very intrigued by it out of the thirty MLB teams between the years twenty, thirteen and two thousand fifteen, the diamondbacks had the highest number of previous independently players on their roster, and they had signed the highest number of players from that league with total of thirty four guys going to the d-backs I mean. Mean that is a high number of guys come from one Independent League. That is a large number of people to come from, and so it was also very interesting to see that actually these minor league teams they make money off of these minorly on off of these major league teams when they come and try and take players so for example about four thousand dollars for an NBA team to pay one of these minor league teams for for one of their players, they get about three thousand for the teens, and then about a thousand goes to the League's. These teams could very well. Be kind of a little outlet for my for Major League teams to go outside of House. If you will and go and find some other talent for a very very low price as a result, minor league, start to get a little bit more money from the major leagues, and if they start to see that more and more guys are actually coming out of. Of the minor leagues and are starting to actually make a name for themselves to make a career major league teams are going to continue to do it much much more I mean if it's if it's where the talent is going to be the major league scout. They're all going to be there. All the coaches all the managers. They're gonNA. Be there wanting. Wanting, to watch in wanting to see those guys play in that minor league system. Because again it, it's going to be out of house. They're not going to be able to control what these guys are doing in with like. They usually can in the farm systems, so they'll be able to have a completely unbiased opinion, and it will make it even more. More challenging for guys that are in those leads to get noticed, and as a result it will just increase the level of play and the talent, and now with the chronic viruses year ending the minor league season it has forced to Major League baseball to implement something that has been in the news for a while now. which is these taxis wads now? These taxi squads are very fascinating, and why twenty man roster that are basically like reserve team so essentially, if anybody on the forty man roster this year for the MLB teams for the for the big league teams, anybody gets sick injured so so on and so forth they're going to basically go to this reserve team, and they're just going to pull guys up from this team, and it's just like dedic. It's almost like you know a G. League team in the basketball or you know. However you want to look at it. It's kind of like a supplemental developmental team and these guys are going to. Continue to work out, continue to stay ready. Continue to practice and train. What once their numbers called? They're going to be called up to the major leagues and they're going to be. You know potentially replacing is that? Are you know normally everyday starters guys that have big time impacts on their rosters, and there's a lot of prospects that have the potential to be. Be called up from the majors from these taxi squads I mean. I have I have I talked to a buddy of mine who knows somebody who just got called up from attack from the taxi squad or is on the taxi squad could be called up from it and I mean he's already said that. It's just I mean it's surreal. It's such A. Horrible experience that he can't even believe it's going on and often makes me wonder you know what would be like for a minor league player right now. You know everything that's been going on. You know you're kind of the cream of the crop. If you will being selected to these taxi squad I, mean it's kind of like to compare it and I don't know if this'll be a fair comparison or not, but kind of like when you have a voice team and every now and again the coach. Let's JV guys you know. Come up and play and sometimes. Sometimes those jv guys. They've got a huge impact. And they come out on the court on the field. Wherever and they make a difference, so we could see again an instance where somebody from the taxi squad kind of rises up out of nowhere comes through the rankings and really make a name for themselves, really put themselves on the map and people all of a sudden all the light, and all the attention will be on them, so a couple of to to mention and I think to definitely make note of and to be aware of in the coming years. I'll kick it off. I guys, Brady Singer right handed pitcher for the Kansas City royals, and he's got a lot of. I mean overall pick by the royals in two thousand eighteen..

"Just I mean I, know I said earlier that maybe if it's well received, people will like that and then they want to do that, but even then I mean guys are going to want to get paid. You know guys are. Are GonNa do make money, and you know the more games, the more money and these guys have massive contracts, and as a result it's it's going to push guys in the direction of Hey. We want more games. We want more games. We want more gains and it was shown in those labor negotiations when the MLB would always come back. The Players Association would always come back with a counter offer I mean that first counteroffer was one hundred and fourteen games, so they definitely WANNA. Play definitely want to get back out on the ball field, but if you're going to be a writer or journalist or Whomever it is covering baseball and next twenty five years. You're going to have to ask yourself. How do you view the season? How do you write about the season? How do you go about covering teams? That were really successful. Are we going to see a team that you know and I think again. What's going to bring out this season? Ultimately will potentially we could get a fluke team. We could get a team that you might have a really great year. Come roaring out of the gates win. Thirty five forty games go on deep down in the playoffs, and they go back to their normal way in the next ten years, and they continue to be bad, you know. Know. Let's say for example Orioles. The Baltimore Orioles have not been good for many years, so let's say the Orioles. They come out to really hot start and again because it's the season that it is, anybody can come out to a hot start, and it will change the entire outlook of the season, so they could come out storming out of the gates have a great year go deep into the playoffs, and then come next year the following year they go back to one hundred sixty two games, and then all of a sudden. They're back to square. One and everybody's asking what happened to that Orioles team. I mean they were so good back in two thousand twenty mean. Why are they not the same team that they were back then and same with players. There's going to be maybe a player to that might just have a big one year. You know a big one hit. Wonder honestly one year wonder, and after that just fall off and you never hear about them again ever again because they were only good for you know thirty five games I sixty games. They weren't good for. They couldn't play an entire one hundred sixty two game season and legitimately. Be a top tier player that is putting up. Hefty. Each and every single game again. Going back to originally cannot compare apples to oranges, no matter which way you swing it, no matter which way you're pulling it and again. Yes it will be going back to what Dave Roberts said. It will be challenging. It will be a monumental victory to whomever wins the world series because of everything that's been going on and everything that's been circulating and going around the season. But when we look back at this in twenty years, you know we can't discredit Mark Maguire. You know seventy seven home runs in a season. We can't discredit. Ted Williams hitting four zero six a year. We can't discredit somebody throwing a you know a sub, one ear ray as a starting pitcher. You know I mean we can't discredit any of that. In one hundred sixty two game season, but then go ahead and give all the credit in the world to you know guys that are playing very well and performing at a high level in just this one year it's it's going to be looked at in a totally different light, and and there has to be an astronaut some sword. Sword in some record book in some footnote, and honestly I think it would be very interesting though I mean think about if you went to the hall of fame in about ten years, there's going to be some sort of exhibit. There's going to be some sort of explanation about this season. People are going to want to learn about it, and if anything I think, it will not ultimately be a season where we compare it to other years, but I think it's going to be a year that we look back at and. What there's going to be a lot of wondering of. If this format had continued. What kind of players could have continued to have that same success could have continue to have a very good career who who was greatly affected by that short season, and then later on after that they did not pan out to be the player that they were in that one year. Because again, it was only a small small sample size. It's going to be an interesting interesting interesting season. I know I. Keep saying that, but it's just so unique. We've never seen anything like this. And that's why there's just a lot of uncertainty in in a lot of unknown as to how we can look at how we can view it as no US, journalists, writers reporters, you know TV air personalities, whatever you WANNA call us announcers so on and so forth we're going to always question the season. We're going to always go back to the season and I'm sure there's going to be many segments down the road and many kind of topics that will. Will. Come out of this, you know who is the best quarantine season player? Who was the best cove in nineteen player? You know whatever it might be. Who is the best Penn player during the pandemic? In that? You know that pandemic year that one pandemic season that yet the MLB had so the end of the day I think all we can do is just appreciate that there's baseball and be thankful that you know there's GonNa, be a season, and we're going to look at this in a historic sense and a very impactful sense, but we're also going to take with a grain of salt because. We cannot ignore some of the incredible feats in some of the incredible statistics that some guys have put up in one hundred and sixty two game season I mean if you think about it, staying consistent for Sixty Games is not that hard in baseball for an MLB player. Staying consistent for a hundred sixty two games year in and year out that his much harder. That is way way way harder so to wrap it all up with that I. think that there's there always be an Asterik, no matter what you look, no matter who you talk to I think people will obviously be split, but I think for the most part there is going to be some sort of. Cloud hanging over the season. If you will, that will always be the big question of what would have happened if there was a normal season, will this ever affect the rest of baseball? And how are we gonNA view this moving forward so that's going to wrap that up for segment number two coming up here next on the GS. MCC, baseball PODCAST I. I will continue the theme of Baseball after Cova if you will this time focusing on the minor leagues,.

"Ages in store for all of you today, and as we know baseball as rapidly approaching and with opening day being on Thursday next week, the twenty third as of today recording July July seventeenth. It's going to be an opening day like none other as the season will be starting over four months late. That's right four months. Something that we've never seen before. And what will also be new is the no fans, obviously and for me being at. At the ballpark on opening days a feeling in sports that's really incredible and something that I've always appreciated and always cherished and because of the memories. I have going to opening day with friends and family. It will be very unfortunate that we won't be able to go in a ten games and really attend day at all and trust me. I'm GONNA MISS GOING DOWN TO PNC park in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where I'm located and catching buckles game. It's been a big time weird situation this entire quarantine this entire pandemic, but it's going to be even weirder not being able to go down to the point downtown in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh to see those games and also to check out that beautiful view of the city, but nonetheless we have baseball returning and no matter what I think. We'll all agree that we can you know be happy and be appreciative that at least there is going to be some sports and especially baseball coming back very soon again. Thanks for joining me today, everyone there is a lot to cover in the baseball world, and with the season rapidly approaching less than a week away I want to get into some things that will be looking at and looking and and being prepared for coming up this season, but also to think. Think about after the season after the years to come once cove in nineteen gets through and runs its course and the Post Tova World in baseball so today show I'll open things up in segment one discussing some predictions for the season, and which teams could really benefit from this short and sixty game format. There's GonNa. Be some teams that can really jump out to some quickstart I'll go over some for some a couple teams that I think could really benefit from this and also give a couple honorable mentions of some teams that were also last year very very good through the first sixty games and could also. And make a big run during the first portion of this season following first bit of the show I'll next get into a topic that has been very popular lately in baseball, and that is how the season will be viewed in history, and how will go down in the record books I'll share my thoughts on how it should be viewed and some statistics that could be greatly inflated because of the shorter season afterwards I want to dive into the world of the taxi squad, and what the future holds for minor. League Baseball Scouting. Many leagues are. Are Starting to cut teams, so that will greatly impact how teams can evaluate and scout talent in the future, so I'll dive into that and investigate what that might look like in the coming years and wrap things up in my fourth and final segment today I'm going to be giving my top three greatest worst to first year turnaround in baseball history I'll discuss which teams they were there improvement in that one year, and what their season outcome was the season after their disastrous finish, so stick around for those last few minutes of the show. Show that'll be a quick history lesson for everybody and I hope I can leave you all with some newfound knowledge to go into the rest of your day with now i. want to dive into our first segment today with some predictions for this season, because I think that with this abbreviated playing there's going to be a lot of teams that could really benefit from the sixty game format and again to say that this is going to be a unique season is a complete understatement, because this is a season that we have never seen before. Before teams are going to be playing a fraction of the usual games that are usually played in the MLB season, and it's GonNa be weird. It's going to be a very very weird year, but nonetheless it'll be also very exciting. There's also some really exciting cool new rules that are going to be implemented and some new formatting. That's going to change the way baseball is and has been for a very very long time so I'll get into my predictions as to who I. Really think could actually make an impact early on in the season. Season and ultimately really benefit from this shortened format so to kick it off. I'M GONNA go with an NFL team that last year came in second place through the first sixty games, but wound up actually winning the division, and that's the Atlanta braves. They were very very good last year, and they've been very good for the last few years, and they're a team that I've always told people to watch out for mainly because they've got a great hitting core, Freddy Freeman one of the best first basements in both the emily end the NFL and they've. They've got a great young core of guys, Ronald, Cuny Junior and Ozzy Albee's highlighting those young superstars that they have and those guys are going to be around in the League for years to come. They're going to have long careers very illustrious careers, and it's GonNa be exciting to watch them. Play and see how they bloom into players much further into their career, another name to throw out his Dan's be Swanson. He's the guy that came in for the braves highly touted, and he did start up a little shake in the early part of. Of His career from the plate, but he's always been a good fielder and he got a lot better as a year went on from the plate so again some more half glass full things to look at if you were braves fan and again last year they were thirty three and twenty seven at that sixty game mark through the first sixty games, and if they can stay consistent through the entire season right now able to keep on churning through and getting wins again, it might not be teams that win forty forty five games that go. Go to the world series it could be teams like the braves or other teams that usually have thirty thirty five, maybe pushing forty wins through the first sixty games, usually it could be a team like that could be a team that is starting to to peak and to climb at the right point of the year, and also not to mention their a team that can get a lot of guys on base. They can also drive a lot of runs end. They compiled six hundred thousand walks of the team last year and seven eighty nine. which was seventh in the? Top Ten in that statistic and the League. If you're able to get that, many guys on base first off six hundred and nineteen walks if you think about it, that's a lot of walks to have for a team, and if you're able to drive in, let's say about a third of those runs. You're doing a really good job, even if it's a two thirds of those runs doing an impressive job, and so it's going to be crucial to try and put these teams away early on in the year, and so the braves are going to have to really try and jump out to lead the Games and they cannot afford dropping the first seven of ten games or eight of eleven games. Games! They cannot afford to get in a whole but I. Really don't think they will I think. There are a team that is going to really pace themselves, but also going with a lot of focus because again you cannot use the excuse that you're tired or exhausted. Come game fifty, five or sixty, because it's not going to be one hundred and sixty two game season. It's just not gonNA be like that. So as a result, players have to kind of bite the bullet, a little bit and deal with it, and and it's it's not that bad sixty games a fraction of what they're used to playing, so guys are going to come in much more focused and much more determined, but. But I really do think that this year the braves they can be a team with a lot of potential, and they could definitely make some noise in this abbreviated year now another team that I want to get into out..

There will be baseball in theory in two thousand and twenty how you feel feeling this morning. Well! Anything is better than nothing buster. Arriving at this point, the way the baseball did was frankly pitiful, but at least we have a roadmap July the first spring training in theory July, the twenty four for the first game in theory. It's got some people excited. That's good 'cause nobody was excited week ago I wish they had come to an agreement, just shown the two sides shaking hands, but at this point I'll take whatever you give. Give me just to try to get baseball back on the field, so it's very interesting. Yesterday, the progression of attitudes that I heard in my conversations. Because you and I do the same thing we spend her days calling people we know. What are you here? What do you know and you're getting their perspective? In Ninety five percent of it is off the record You're getting their perspective on what they're seeing what they're thinking. Thinking and I. Don't know if you had this experience. But the beginning a yesterday I've never heard people more down that I talked to. They were so disgusted they were so appalled by how the thing played out. And by the end of the day you know is, there was this agreement to move for? There was a sense of you. Know what let let okay. We're ready to go now. We got something to look forward to we. We got we got some dates to to look forward to. Yes, we all know the inherent threat that the corona virus you know presents for baseball, and it may well be that the whole thing is going to be derailed some point, but at least we have something to look forward to and possibly some competition so at the end of the day it definitely, there was a little bit more sunshine. What about your conversations? Yeah. I found roughly the same thing yesterday, and you can't come up with a roadmap until you know when you're GonNa Start and when you're gonNA finish, so at least we know in theory when the how season is gonNA run at least in in in a small way. We know it's GonNa Start Say July twenty four and on October thirty first with the regular season. Season ending on September thirtieth, so at least we know now we can start to put the pieces in place and I just think there's a resignation now among the players all right, we couldn't come out. We wouldn't agree with them on this, but it's time to start playing, and now we'll see if they really believe the you know. Tell us when and where that. That they came up with I, believe that a lot of excited about getting back to work again under strange strange circumstance. Yeah, because that's what they do like. That's their life's work in so whether it's under one hundred sixty two games or sixty games, I think there are some players, some staffers definitely looking forward to getting back on the field. I want. Want to ask you what you think and let's go into some hardcore baseball stuff. Would you and I haven't had this type of conversation? Since March the biggest baseball challenge for all of these teams, and just in talking with staffers. They really feel like that. Maybe a separator among the thirty teams is going to be okay. which teams can pull their players together can. Themselves from all the ugliness in the frustration and the anger over the way the Labor stuff played out and get the players into that mindset of playing the. And playing for each other and I've been thinking about this team, so I feel like are especially well equipped to do that. Absolutely I believe the Tampa. Bay Rays are just being around them. You know at the end of last year in spring training this year I think they have that I think the Yankees have that you know the the one guy who is a free agent who might have more at risk than anybody on that team? Is Dj Lemay Hugh you and I know Dj Lemay Hugh. If you told him he was plan for nothing in your backyard. He would do that and I. think that's a good starting place for that team. And you know I do think that the mets..

"Where do you see him landing? Will he become a bullpen piece rather than a starter look. He's going to be thirty four years old next spring and there's a reason why the mariners are saying goodbye at this point is he hasn't been very good this year. One in seventy six point five one era a I hope just me is a baseball fan. I kinda hope he steps aside because seem in another uniform and be like Saint Joe Namath at the end of his career playing a rams uniform. It just doesn't look right you know if he wants to play and give it a shot. Hey more power to them but remember he's been living in Seattle and you know why not finish your career a whole career in which he played for one team yeah agree. I don't really see it next. We've got just dzerjinski at gesture Gendi after the Hashtag Phillies Fire Gabe Kaplan or does he get a managerial job for twenty twenty I feel like a good fit for the padres and could work well with. Aj prowler what do you think and I would assume that he probably knows Aj from time working in front offices maybe from when they were both from the Rangers Rangers Organization but the name I keep on hearing this is total speculation at this point is that a a baseball ops for the giants Gabe worked with him the dodgers front office. It'll be interesting to see if in fact Gabes fired in that is generally speaking expectation around the industry if the giants could be landing spot fought for that could be a really interesting move be great to see him out in the West Coast next. We've got triple shy at bb underscore Ben Twenty nine the tribe looks stun but no one is suggesting that Tito might be gone outside of a managerial change. What offseason MOVES DO EXPECT OUT OF CLEVELAND? You know I started asking around around a little bit about what the timing is going to be when they start to. Perhaps listen to offers for Francisco Lindor because that's going to happen. He's going to be a free agent two years from now and I don't think this will be the off season when that happens. I think it's more likely if the Indians are playing well next summer that might pick up. Maybe a year from now I I think the big question this off season. We talked about this week a little bit on the podcast. What are they gonNA do with Corey Kluber who has a contractual option for seventeen and a half million dollars dollars for two thousand twenty after making seven starts this year the question a little bit? Do you think they need to make any offseason those I don't I think they can make a lot of off season moves. 'cause I think first off we know they don't have a lot of payroll flexibility and Linda horror as he climbs the arbitration ladder is going to get a huge raise and they're gonNA have to offset that. Yeah that'll be hopefully that'll be what they end up doing. As a twins fan you always kind of have to be wary of them especially when they overtake your team for a whole day hey this year Jeremy Jeremy. My favorite Marty Brennaman fact is that he called Hank Aaron then record tying home run in his first game buster. What's your favorite? MLB Player first game fact mine is Will Clark homering off Nolan Ryan and his first at and this is journeys words not mine. He thinks in Troy is too young to answer this. Yeah sure you probably have nothing to offer here right. I remember jerks and Pro Fars First home run in his first. I bet yeah that one's going to go down in history. Everyone's going to remember that one. Hey somebody's postseason there you go well in my might might might see as obscure but Daniel Nava in his first plate appearance in the major leagues hit a Grand Slam on the first pitch that he saw if you know Daniel Novice novice like career path he was like the team manager when he was in college and then he got a chance to play in fall ball and then he got stronger lifting acting weights and eventually works through this meandering journey the big leagues and he hits a Grand Slam on the first PICCI's. That was pretty cool yeah. I'm just ooh little bit older than try. I will have to say my favorite is Eddie Lozari. Oh hit a home run in his first at bat and his whole family flew out from Puerto Order Rico. They were all in the stands cheering so excited to see it. I mean I don't know of Eddie. Rosario will be postseason hero per se but I do have a little bit more. We're context to that question. Yeah one hundred percent certainly better perspective than Troy has being a couple years older really just changes or view of the world. We've got justin white at J. White Eighty five since today is our last Friday of leisure tweets before the postseason he wants to know about some of are on the record round by round prediction. You Know Justin here's the thing with my prediction. I don't like changing musical along sometimes like the sportscenter our producers will call you and mid seasons and say hey as of today. Who are your picks them? I don't WanNa do that. 'CAUSE I. Just WanNa keep track of one set of picks. I I will say that before the year started. I picked the Astros to beat the braves in the world series. I'm feeling good about that. One like I think that one's okay so I'm sticking sticking with that and then now what might seem silly but I don't like trying to keep track of all the different pick screen if that makes sense now I get it and it's a lot it's a lot of rounds a lot of teams. I will be changing my pick from before the season I had also picked Houston and a braves say wow and the world series yeah before the season started. I did pretty good with my current or the regular season picks but I'm not feeling so great about my postseason so so I'm actually going to change my into Houston dodgers. I see here's the thing though you sacrifice bragging rights if you if you wind up changing it Ed and the braves wind of winning it you're GonNa feel like Oh man. I wish I had still had the bragging rights probably yeah but I already have kind of a bragging rights from from the regular season so I'll give it up for something. I feel a little bit more confident about and plus. I think a Houston daughter rematch would be really really fun to watch not saying that Houston and Atlanta one would it be but that's something that I think is kind of been bubbling under the surface for the past couple of years well. They clearly have been the two best teams. I think this year with a little yankees mixed in just the Yankees fading a little bit toward the end in the astros playing well Rena. Thanks for doing this. Thanks for having me that's it for today and my thanks to Karl Boo Rita Bruce Bochy Troy but before we go the last goodbye will be from my friend and colleague math excursion who wrote a letter of.

"Someone who's GonNa cry. You can go to a movie that sort of thing typically. No the only time I cry are really emotional moments in real life especially during sporting events so I don't know where well I think you've got a pretty good idea where we're going because there was a lot of crying in baseball on Thursday in Seattle the mariners earners athletics and of course for Oakland. It's an important game because they are going for a wildcard spot in the top of the second inning and Felix Hernandez is last started Seattle battle. Matt Chapman helped to give Oakland big league right handed pitcher right handed hitter. It's on the way and here it is a fly ball hit the deep right Center Field Smith going back doc center fielder at the track two of the leaping at the wall and it's gone and Chapin has done it again. He's homered back to back games in the athletics ticket three nothing nothing lane can eight sixty a m the answer so the competitive part of this game was kind of over early and everyone was there to see Felix Hernandez in how he would handle his final game for the mariners and what the response would be. They were so many fans there just to see Felix. This is what it sounded like AAC when Felix Hernandez came out of the game here come Scott Scott this gonna be at he's GonNa take this final bow right now everybody rising to their feet Scott Service hearing from the fans Felix's throng one hundred six pitches Elaine's and tell them we are witnessing the culmination. Uh of a magnificent mariners career or Felix Hernandez has he shakes hands with Scott Service looks each they look each other in the eye the whole infielders gathered around big hug each other they hug beat Kyle Seager Hud's Felix this long embrace as with Kyle seager big slapped with low five with Omar Narvaez Enough Phillix Kaplon crown what a moment Dave sims calling seven ten any. ESPN Seattle and Troy lookie gave all those hugs out on the mound. Then he hugged each one of his teammates he got an encore call out wave to the fans and Felix Hernandez. There's was openly weeping like he kept on trying to dab his eyes but there was a river of tears there. It was really cool. What did you think of it because I I know I was is getting emotional actually did to the mariners means something special to me? I was born in Seattle. My brother who we heard on the pot earlier this week. He's a mariners fan. He loves Felix Alex and he was texting me last night just about how emotional wars and I saw the video this morning and knowing how much she means to me where I'm from it I got I got a little emotional watching it. Even though is that like four thirty this morning it was really cool. It was Felix Hernandez after the game about how emotional the day was. I was thinking about yesterday when I was in my bed. Please don't cry don't walk into the Boba. House is not right now right now but it's hard to do it. You know I mean a lot of emotions out there being here for fifteen everything years in a lot of stuff going on and we're GONNA be talking more about Felix Hernandez Moshe his emotional night and what might be ahead. He was ask the question if he wants to continue to pitch. I don't know what's going to happen next year. I don't know what they're trying to do. They're going to do the at the end of the night after Oakland one three two one their magic number to clinch a playoff spot now down to one in part because of what happened in Chicago Chicago earlier in the evening the white sox facing the Indians and the final game of that series basically a must win situation for Cleveland but it didn't go well the one we can drill a deep left field allen alternative look it's a three-run homer James McCann and the white sox take a three three nothing lead in the fourth at on wgn on the way to an eight nothing victory over Cleveland Terry Francona. The Indians manager talked about losing out on the Division Central Tournament. I don't know about inevitable I mean. I don't know if you look at things things like that but I mean now the next best thing is we need to win tomorrow. Keep this thing going yeah yeah. They are hanging right on the edge of the twins beat the Tigers ten to four Jonathan scope becoming one of the twins who runs this year as scope swings skies a deep to left. This has some Kerry Dixon back on the track at the wall. That's gone homerun. The Minnesota twins become the first team in baseball spoil history to with three hundred home runs gory provice colon milestone on the treasure island baseball network now typically we wouldn't be playing the rangers in red sox highlight troy from yesterday but there was a lot of back and forth in this game going into this outing Mike minor around one hundred ninety one strikeouts and in the middle of the game. The Rangers took the lead. Daddy hits his in this season it so the competitive part of the game is over that call from the Rangers television network minor needed eight strikeouts for two hundred. Excuse excuse me needed nine strikeouts for two hundred in this game he had eight through seven innings and in the eighth inning the red SOx hitters swung at the first pitch in each of the three at bats. Put it in play so he didn't get that number two hundred in the top of the ninth inning minor still trying to get to two hundred and this is what what happened and there's a swing and pop that's playable on the right side of the Infield. WHO's mind down the line? Let's drop in foul territory. Did that look like they intentionally. Let the route yes. That's exactly what it looked like because Guzzi is going to catch that Trevino could have caught it now. It won in two to a guy who with Boston has struck out twenty one times in forty to advance that from one zero five point three the fan mike minor liner knowledged after the game that he yelled who's Mon- to let it drop and this is what followed well there are two strikes now and here's the one to delivery stricken out looking on the inside quarter Chris Woodward already out of the Dugout to come get Mike Minor after his two hundred strikeouts gotta the year two hundred strikeouts in the announcement is being made as the ranger infield converges on the mound to congratulate Mike Minor and Chris Woodward Sends Sends Him on his way to a standing ovation with the Rangers leading seven five in the night now the Red Sox word so happy is the fans and Chris Woodward were in that moment after the Game Rangers manager talked about how he felt about minor asking a teammate to drop a pop up. What do you think in right when it hits what's going through your mind in their better? Strike them out. That was what I was thinking if you're going to do that you better amount and in fact if he didn't start probably would have taken them out just because of the way it looks. I don't like I talk about playing the game the right way all the time and it's you know that's kinda borderline crossing the line but he ended up taking him up so worked out here was Alex Cora the red sox manager about that intentional drop of a foul ball guys are playing the game the right way. We're playing hard until the end you saw the effort and that's what he's all about. You know we got the goals say mine then it happen has been you know two two weeks that we've been eliminated but you know we we've been going you know going to the railway and that's all ass does I you know I don't manage the ranger so there's no question for for what he over there and he probably has the right answer. The dodgers still going for the number. One record the number one seed in baseball they face the padres and Clayton kershaw was terrific seven strikeouts over six scoreless innings and get some backing for Mack Matt Mack Muncie Muncie lines it in the left Centerfield Batia rounding second and heading Third Taylor Dino Abel's going to wave home here comes the relay from the slide say hedges dropped the ball the and the dodgers leading one nothing tim never am five seventy. La Sports the angels face the Astros the Astros of course starting today with the number one seed in baseball. The two teams are tied in the bottom of the twelfth thinning. This is what happened in the Pissy Ground Ball Club in the first basement Tucker roll into right field and law game is over the angels have a walk off win here in the bottom of the twelve dinning was shot the kind of handcuffed tucker and the angels come away with the wind here tonight at the Big Gay Angels Win this ball game aim by the final score four to three in twelve innings Terry Smith Angels Radio Ama thirty the astros leading the dodgers. There's by one game in the race for the number one seed the nationals affiliates Washington Win Sixty three and Stephen Strasburg hit a big round number Boston both tomorrow Morrogh Patrick Urban scheduled for Saturdays for o'clock game Sunday a nothing about that strikeout. That's number two fifty for Strasbourg work as the buzzes the insight edge on Hernandez Nissan Pitch cast it was Bob Carpenter on massin. We wouldn't normally only play Marlins and mets highlights at this point but there was a nice moment for Curtis. Granderson has been such a great pro. Now grandy gets into one deep right right center Conforto Nimmo back and this one is done another home run. They've gone back to back Hyneman granderson and the marlins stormed back into the lead. It's three to the eighth Glenn Geffner nine forty. WINZ for granderson career homer number three forty four he's thirty eight years years old sixteen years in the big leagues. He's been such a tremendous major leaguer Centerfield team of the day in the game of the day between the brewers and the reds and in the top of the fourth inning brewers took control here comes on and that ball is flipped into shallow laugh racing back his van meter. It's off the top of his Globe and falls in the gap. One run is in Spanish and burgle score around thirty Shaw. Here's the throats cut aw in Orlando arse you brings home three in the brewers lead at three two one six twenty. WTMJ the bruiser win this game five five to three but the reason why it's a game of the day is not because the brewers in their chase for the national league central title it's because it was the last game for broadcaster Marty Marty Brennaman after so many years being the reds play by play man. This was Marty Brennaman after the game talking about his career in Cincinnati to have lived in this city all the time that I have and to have made all the friends that I have and have been a hand in raising three kids through three marriage is is and and and never ever lessened my love for the city in any aspect of it and I'm proud to say that I'll be here until the day they pass muster on me for the final time. "The Baseball Together podcast. I am Brad and I'm joined as usual by break. What up baseball family we're going to get going real quick because we've got a lot of current events we WANNA go down and and we're going to talk today about baseball cards because we love baseball cards though the nostalgia love so so many things about him with unfortunately they're not worth thing anymore but anyways? Let's get into some current events I this week we had announced the field of dreams game and who couldn't be more excited about this more excited by this. I think is fantastic thing. Being the major league baseball is doing and what they are doing is on August thirteenth of next next year two thousand twenty the yankees and white sox are going to the field of dreams field in Iowa where the movie was filmed in Heaven in heaven and they're gonNA play a game. How awesome is that legit? It's so awesome on if you think about it they really they really thought about this. I mean the white sox plane because the kind of have to write because the movie about the blackhawks brilliant so so they really put a lot of I thought that having the white sox play this game and then the Yankees just because I think it's just because it's the ankle it's dry. It's GonNa draw on those eight. Thousand seats are GonNa get failed yeah and that's that's where I had next like. I think it's so cool what they're doing here. They're keeping it intimate. They're keeping a small. They're going to build an eight thousand seat stadium are they're gonNA have eight thousand surrounded and then this is what this thing I think is super cool. They're going to have an outfield wall with a window so you can see the corner. That's awesome. It's too bad that there's a wall wall. I know they should have just like put a yellow line on the leave it with corn and if and then if if it goes if it goes over the corn on the flight home homerun if it goes into the corner to ground rule go a great idea that that would be an awesome wait. It's like literally supposed to be. That's a coup hall call man I love Mash of cost him on the phone with commanche inch. We need him on our team lob. We need to make a phone. Come on a conference call with Bob by the way if any of you read Bob Costas Phenomenal Book Fair Ball you'll know we talk about but for those of you that have not you're missing out yes. It's a great read. WE'RE GONNA go over at one of these times on the podcast. Eventually we're going to get we're GONNA get you WanNa know about it though yes so good. It's a fantastic book absolutely great okay okay so couple of questions that I have that have been brought up in the group when this got announced.

"Checketts and and and seconds, really good. At at preparing them to understand what we're trying to do with analytics and the data that we we gather on guys both our own pitchers, and the and the oppo the opponents were facing, so they work really closely together to put a game plan together. We we have the ability to call us bitches, and we got the car, you know, everybody, and we can put that in. But we also feel like if those two people can really work together and takes on a different dynamic. The flow is great temple is awesome. Guys, have how some feel and and I think it really gives her often. So we love it when it can happen in. You know, I wish there could be more. But you've got to put in the development piece. I had it to do it. You can't just say well, you need to call it because you need to learn how to do this in pro ball. You know, we got gotta win games. We gotta do those things. So, but again, we can develop you to do that we can train you do that in our job is to develop you, and and get you where where where you can't handle that. And I've been like I said I've been really fortunate work with some great catchers, and and. And this is no different. And they're they're just a joy to work with everyday 'cause they love getting better learning and try and do things a little about recruiting certainly don't wanna get into player specifics because you're kind of constantly on the recruiting trail if not in mind, you're traveling and seeing players talking to players, but I think the average sports fan even those that watch baseball listen to baseball podcast. They know how the football and basketball recruiting because it's publicize it's out there. There's recruiting services. There's rankings. The dead periods of signing day. They kind of get how large recruiting classes is going to end up being typically baseball is a little bit differently partially because it's not as publicized, and it's not ranked. And and there aren't fifty people out there saying, you're terrible recruiting agree recruiting. Also because the roster sizes obviously different in baseball than in basketball and football. But also because baseball's limited to what is at eleven point seven athletic scholarships, which isn't even half the roster size that has to present. That has present some challenges you're out there on the recruiting trail. How'd you kind of massage that together and build a recruiting class knowing that those are your restrictions as you move along. Because it's not like you're sitting at a table with the rest of your staff saying, let's go get these X number of players. And then the next day you go do it. It's a process. Yeah. I think you're right. And you mentioned sort of misunderstood about how how the whole thing work. I think a lot of people in both fans and even administrator sometimes, and then the people that you're recruiting that don't really get the the hoops you've gotta jump through in the permutations that you have to figure out to put a Rosser together on budget because football basketball dominate the recruiting landscape and people's perception so much about. Well, hey, if you want that kid you offer him a scholarship will. Yeah. In football and basketball. It's a full and everybody's not working on the same format..

"I will throw you on the bus that comment, by the way, the title of this particular episode baseball things will be coach calls. Tommy, ju the next Ricky Anderson just just to just under the bus there. Because you know, that's how we do things here. I'm curious as a coach if somebody who's out on crew trail. This doesn't need to be a a real defined answer. But do you typically run into kids that don't want to ask for help? Or is it usually the other way around where they're so interested in getting better that if anything they're they're asking too many questions, I think it's the former I think most kids that are really talented are a little bit nervous to how discussion about their for coming their kids days be just because they're so much more than the public eye with social media and recruiting services and scouting services. And and the way we digest high school, and certainly football and basketball and that level, but it's it's pretty similar to in baseball from from an exposure standpoint about kids being seen and the whole concept of exposure. And I'll want everybody to see how good I am. That breed. I think a little bit of of players worry. Being about the tough conversation. So let's talk about the things I'm good at. Let's talk about the the swing stuff that I that I have gotten to a pretty good level with. Let's not talk about what the thing that. I'm not good at yet. And and so I think trying to fifth through that really repeating process develop enough of a relationship on a report with the get that we can have honest conversations about where's their head at what what causes them strengthening diety on the baseball field and maybe off the field too. But specifically on on from the offense standpoint about what are the things that you problems?.

"Honestly, man, I missed the fan culture up there. Mr. baseball people. It was outstanding the part of that community for the years. I was there from baseball stamp. It was little was k-. However, everything you just said about Robertson Cano and fans going to the ballpark in August and Nelson Cruz, including that community we just talked about that with signing Bryce Harper going to other players to complement and paying them some money managers never got over the hump. They ain't over there haven't gone done with Jerry yet. They didn't do jackets awhile. It really gotten over that. But what I will say is the effort was put into a point, and he'd be dishing rewards would have helped Johnston or previous ownership further. What of what we do know is that winning baseball keeps fans happy and denting with their players and they're superstars and for for the young players coming up right in some cases, there sports heroes. I hesitate use award heroes because there's real heroes out there that baseball, right? But they're sports heroes things identify with inspire to be and these type of things hurt the game the hurt the game. And so they need to fix this need to get players into camp. And they need to have a different perspective because the rest of the world is watching and to be honest with you, we all wanna watch baseball. Yeah. We do. Let's get back on. That's all. All right. Up by four days, and as a mess over there with luscious beard, looking good. Thank you very much. It's my off season still waiting for the Mets to make the playoffs spirit. So we are town for the MLB summit all of us here because Bristol and the some it's a little different than the the NFL summit. I would think because the NFL summit is like a week long hundreds of people show up the food is catered there's like slides and presentations and important people show enough, and this basically, it's me AJ Tristan and Leo go into the cafeteria for an hour. That's that's the summit, right? There will be food. Well, we have to buy it. As long as there's food. I'm all good. Yeah. We won't pitchers and catchers already. Let's get it done. So that's coming up soon. Five days, and and then spring training games at the end of the month. And then, you know, we'll get into this in March, of course. But like it's March twentieth is win that series over a belief. The over yonder is being played who's buying in. That is under flying. Be Seattle and Oakland, right? Yeah. Okay counts. Yeah. It counts. Let's bring in the edits world watchdog, so people already asking me Leo on Twitter nast, lots of many things different things. But the March twenty games do kaffir. ESPN right. Absolutely. Yes. The March twenty games we'll be in the first scoring period of of the year. And by the way, if the draft after that point, they'll retroactively still count to write cry. We've done that before. Yeah. They should the rest of the game starred in right Thursday. The twenty eighth, you know, everything don't you? Yep. All thirty teams play. All right. Well, then we should get to the news because you seem to know everything here's the buzz. All right. So the patriots one there's not a whole lot of baseball buzz going on the players will sign stop winding..

"Bell. Other welcome to fantasy focus baseball to beautiful Thursday morning, August twenty. Third, two thousand eighteen. I American. He has tristen and we have much to cover on this fine sunny day with much sunny day baseball. Right. I ho. Hi ho baseball to talk on the show my song Nola sure Zor the top two pitchers in baseball in war or maybe NFL. I'm going to Graham is an early game. I mean, obviously, if you're listening to this, these games probably started, but it's going to be an interesting day little later on Cole hamels we'll get to that as well given up who runs in four starts with the cubs and it's opponents pitch pretty decently to. Yeah, he is so funny. We'll take a look at the schedule for the next four days. We'll also talk about the many, many combo meals. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. I'm so many. So full now up the whole show so filling, geez. All right, we're, we're, we're laughing. There weren't any since last show. Basically people stop stealing bases, but they haven't stopped getting hurt. We'll get to that. Here's the buzz. I'm not. I'm not singing hunger-strike. No, I can't. I can't Justice to that. No, no Pearl Jam's. I don't think I could do well with that. No. Well, what do you want to start with here? I mean, we could talk about Daniel Murphy being traded other than we changed much. We've talked about Stephen Strasburg. Is it why the big? Well, because it's one of the big headliners of the week and you know, I mean, I don't think people reacted the way expected when that trade I went down on that, is that man, he's going to the cops, where's he going to play? There's a solution to this. He fits the puzzle piece fits and fits well. Well, I mean, I think it's pretty obvious he can only play second base. I if a that team, I know I know could play second, didn't you qualify sucking base. Doug, not this here. He did last year, so I, you know, I, I look at this and I thought, well, it doesn't guarantee him everyday playing time. Obviously the knee is probably stolen issue, but he led off yesterday which is great news now. It doesn't mean it happens again today there are there at the trade. Why would you not the h. him and have Zoubar's the d. h. i. doesn't make any sense. But certainly I think Murphy is what he is. I mean, he's he's sitting well since the break over the past was final thirty five games on the nationals hit three sixty four. So he's back. He might people tuned, but the cubs have the best lineup in the National League. It's it's a good team. You know what I think is, what do you think he is as Brian odor. It's the same situation base not no. It's the same situation after the trade where Ono platoon, no, it's not a platoon and he's the regular. I think he's the regular. I mean, Addison Russell's on the DL. So it's very easy for me to go in this direction. Russell's spin, awful awful. They could play David Bodey at second base. When Brian comes back in a platoon, don't be shocked if they do that, but he's good. Well, yeah, but the thing is that Bodey actually fits really nicely on the ups oriented team where he could throw them in there against the left handed pitchers. You could throw bias over to short where you don't really lose much on defense. Murphy at second is a defensive downgrade, but you shuffle guys around with defensive replacements. Onic Murphy gets at least eighty five percent of the playing time. All right. Let's move on. Also, Matt Adams was dealt and I didn't think much of it. But now that the Marcella Zuma's on the disabled list price left field for the next week to ten days against right hand pitching. So maybe it does matter I, I was not expecting them to go in that direction, but you're right that that the timing of that does hint at it. Initially, I thought Adams goes to first base place sometimes against righties as a pinch hitter, like a little bit more used Justin bore with affiliate after that deal and carpenter shuffles around the infield. So the biggest takeaway was that it hurts the defense for the pictures just a little bit, but you're right. Maybe Adams does have a place to play. Maybe this team is going matchups oriented. Do you stick with those Oona in an ESPN standard? Tintin leak..

"If there's a struggle in the attempt and whatnot so the point is that he could almost should he decide that after if the american baseball experiment is not something that was a failed one in some people's mind he could almost go back to japan and just like you know have a tunnel built for him like live forever in a way like through the eyes of already done yes and as side light to that one of the exhibition spring training game that i went to in the tokyo dome featured code you harrah's return to the yomiuri giants at at forty two and it was the place was packed fifty thousand people there for essentially a spring training game and the bullpen was behind the dugouts there and they have cameras on them so they everyone knew he was gonna pitch one inning and so he i think it was the fifty came in and they showed him you know warming up in the bullpen and everyone went crazy and then they showed a tribute to his days when he used to pitch for that team for the giants and then he came charging out of the dugout to pitch and it was pandemonium i mean it was it was just like this unbelievable welcome back for kosher you hara so you know i it it's a they they used to resent when like nomo was resented when he came over here because they felt it was almost a slap in the face to to the legacy of japanese baseball that somebody felt like they had to go somewhere else to prove themselves now it's become accepted and the return is is sort of the the payoff you know you come back after you've achieved things here and you show people that you still you still care about their baseball and it almost doesn't matter if he pitches one season or five more you know he's going to be remembered as the guy who came back as the conquering champion it's just it does seem interesting to see how this will evolve with you know hitting home runs and despite the butcher last night playing you know there's been criticism away to faces more deep lineups but i mean he is only twenty three years old and he's his professional career in major league baseball is what like a month and a half maybe so.

"Throws compulsion to perfect his his perfectionism to be a baseball player and that's that's running into the the end of the line with regard to his his physical skills but i think it touches on something that is of considerable interest to people even if they might not think about it where professional baseball and especially the major leagues it stands to reason that would be selective for what we might call out no nonstandard psychology in a player you have to be able to withstand a lot of pressure you have to be pretty obsessive with perfecting your skills so how what have you observed i guess with regard to major league baseball players versus just a general audience how does how do the psychological profiles compare between those two groups i read the article and yeah i mean it sounds like you know when he went out and rented the stadium to hit even though it was cold because you know we had to you know there's it's euros a great player and you know i think that preparation and routine is important but i think anyone that's exceeds just not baseball you know there's a line there of perfectionism or deliberate practice or routines or you know that make them what they are i think having a balance in that is what's important and i think that's what you know players are so from a from a baseball players perspective players have been playing a regular basis since they were kids on a very structured basis for through their adolescence through their young you know early twenties so baseball becomes kind of becomes who they are and i've tried to talk the players about baseball's what you do it's not who you are and but when it's who you are and your identity and your daily routine functions around those activities that does become an obsession an obsession of chievements of an obsession of having to do these.
