"Now. I think this is the killing season. We're about to go into the long parliamentary midwinter break. So it's kinda now and ever if you look at the win the election can happen. Which is the end of the year next year. So that these they conned of loss chance to do it without bending too close to an election and being really strange. I think michael mccoll. Mex- failure to articulate sort of the nationals view that the net zero emissions target of two thousand eight hundred fifty which the prime minister has been inching towards. He hasn't committed to it but inching towards and changing his rhetoric on. They wanted him to articulate a strong case against that. Now michael mccomb kind of has been saying some of these spot a. He doesn't have the political rhetoric skills of a bottom. Joyce and so they've exploited that issue and then the review kind of embarrassing moments for michael mccormack in the last week which i think are galvanized campaign against him. When he said he wanted to send moss into the inner city and he's from the moss plag- in a city apartment. That was pretty embarrassing. And it was just saying as trying to muscle up same like the big regional guy that can can really struck some lines actually missing them up. I live in a community way. Rates will boy moss and there is nothing worse than this stinks mosque. There is nothing worse than heading moist. Eighty a grind. There is nothing worse than having moss running raping around you pass around you randy factory and then we have of course vita the people for the ethical treatment of animals coming in on. Didn't he. Member for dc endorsing them sighing moist. The little curious creatures should be behind. Well i actually agree with paid. They should be rehired into the into the inner city apartment so that i can nibble away at the food and they faded scratch children that not and he lost the support of the party room because ultimately he just didn't he didn't resonate enough he wasn't firing and he was acting prime minister and i felt like he doesn't excite the nation having said that i always think it's really strange when they talk about how he doesn't accept the nation if you look at nationals. Latest warren trusts. I main sorry but not exactly the most charismatic guy in the room. even You know who else who else some. "There is mounting speculation that markle mccormack's ladyship over the national son to threat a number of media outlets reporting that a spill motion could be cold when the party meets in camera this morning escort portion my future and joins us now from parliament. House what we know about what happened at the party room meeting the we're out here in the cool is because there wasn't actually a spill motion foreshadowed before the national party. Room started into why we are waiting outside for interrupt. Just being told the barnaby. Joyce has one. That's come from source within the party. Room barnaby joyce will soon be sworn in as deputy prime minister of australia after winning the leadership of the nationals. In a very close contest in camera so first question is. Did you ever think that this day would come a ditch. I absolutely thought this day would come. I always thought that barnaby joyce would at some point returned to the nationals leadership and has happened sir barnaby joyce might say he was caught off guard by this moment evidenced by the fact that he left his hat at home yesterday but not so the host of the. Abc's are in drive program. Patricia velez couple of reasons for that. One of the reasons these it's been three years since he lost the leadership but i believe he never ever ever accepted that loss and he has been campaigning from the day. He lost the latest ship to regain the latest ship. He believes that Losing the lady was essentially on fair and has been agitating for return. Ever since the other reason. I believed it was going to happen. Was i do believe in many ways. Michael mccormack was the accidental lleida. He very much filed to excite the base or party room. He might a load of embarrassing mistakes that was seized upon by people who hated him in the nationals. And more broadly and that made it easier for barnaby joyce to eventually returned to the leadership. The other reason. I thought it would happen. Is because barnaby joyce ease actually quite a very persuasive political operator internally on i some people don't like him externally but internally he's very he's pretty savvy and.

"I just a little bit just a couple of inches to make the nets a little bit. Bigger 'cause go got bigger the equipment's bigger I just think it would make a lot more interesting for fans if we could see if you more goal scored i know we just had the twentieth or not even twenty whatever. It was anniversary of the miracle on ice. We're all getting old. But you you look at jim craig. And the pads that he was wearing back in the day. You know the old brown leather shin guards and everything and just the size of the pads are minuscule compared to today what about making the pats smaller make an effect instead of making the gold. Bigger now again. I i think about making the nets a little bit bigger. Only because guy shoot the puck so hard great now. So i don't wanna i don't wanna goaltenders getting hurt. I wanna see a few more goals But i think if you just think the next a little bit bigger key the couldn't same size then you alleviate both problems we get more goals and we don't have golden getting hurt which the safety we want First and foremost so. Where do you see the league going from here the next couple of years. I love the way it's going. I think it's fascinating. We have a lot of youth to being in infusing into the game right now. I continue to grow We we look at where we are. you know i think worldwide. It's a global sports. I love where the game's going i. I know a lot of people complain. There's not enough fighting. There's not enough physicality. But i think it's a pretty damn good game. We have going right now. Better worse than when you played different different. They can't you keep. I do i would do. I wish there was a little bit more rivalries and a few more fights. yeah Do i love the skill level. Where it's at now he. Yeah i do. So i you know i i can give you a little bit of both sides but i'm very happy In the era play and also the faith either. Get the player with him. Well i went to my greatest ranger-islander game ever. I went to was march seventeenth in the garden. Which is obviously saint patrick's day here. Everybody drinking ranger island. The rivalry and that was the craziest game. I've ever been to think we'll see that kind of craziness again or are at this point. Yeah no it totally different world. Homework is different era. We.

"How happy were you or were you. Happy getting out of buffalo and heading to like pittsburgh tampa bay. The rangers. i mean is not the most exciting city to play. I can't say the most enticing place to visit as well but here's table buffalo. They're they're great fans. They love sports. And i was very privileged It could be favor for the years that i was. I was very very course now was time for me to move on. Yeah i i think mutually You know if. I talked to this heinous people in the path We we we just reached a point where it was time to move on so You know i'm very lucky to have played there and For that fan base there. They're awesome awesome fans but For me to go on and play in pittsburgh after places new york rangers. I mean just off. Clean amnesty For three years my my senate race was mark messier foul Get any better than that. You know it doesn't get any better than mark messier that you're gonna get a roommate and eric lindros and i had marking a centerman. I pretty well. That's not bad at all But let me ask you one more question. Then we'll get to what you what you got going on right now. In terms of investment. Let's say of the team into their facilities. The team into strength training The way they took care of you. Did you see a big difference. Let's say between buffalo pittsburgh. Obviously the rangers have their their own training facility up in west chester What kind of differences did you see between the team. She played for. Yeah i think buffalo it in the back end of it was was awesome. I i think pittsburgh was probably a little step behind and then new york was on a different level. And you know just years. I started in buffalo in nineteen ninety three nine hundred ninety four and then i went to new york. It was two thousand one. So we're we're talking about a decade later right so obviously evolution is going to catch up and we're going to have Science behind us to to learn from that so You know new york would be out of the three Certainly the bathroom every year. I think everyone involved and everyone got a little bit better the newark was signing the money. That's with the dole and family and that all Pity who we had a lot behind us. We were doing okay. i had. I had the honor and privilege of playing up there. a couple of years ago I don. I got this. Invite somehow through the rangers and they split us up into blue and white team and we played with Some of the ranger lijun. So what am i highlight right now is actually scored a goal on an assist from ron crush..

"You're not going to go into a game saying we're gonna win this game five four six five. Fb the oilers of the of the eighties We we we defend and we can win games two to one three two. I'm certainly that's the islanders m. Oh and what they do that. So it's it's pretty cool to watch them. They're going to have their ups and downs like everyone else because they don't they are able to score on games. They're going to go up three. You're gonna look at those shit can can can can. We scored four and i don't know what the answer is It's not very zell or one of the top guys going. They don't have the depth scoring and that could cause a problem as they go through but they had a lot of success. And i really like the team that they depend. Well if i could go and obviously like you said very close to the great great coach i do. They have a shot this year. Old war i'm kind of looking at the modified playoffs. You know where everybody's talking. 'bout the bobble and and i think it goes for the same with the nba in the nhl some teams which is better off or better suited for playing in the and they had the covert break you come back and some teams just into excel in that situation where it was the islanders success last year that they were just built better for that that kind of playoff run. But l think it's the nhl right. I don't care compare the nhl to the nba nba. Got three good players. Getting on you you give me two all stars. I really strong guy. I'll i'll take your team every day of the week. That's the raptors in the nba struggle. This year they don't have Three altars they don't even have to also they they have one in kyle lowry so you know you look at that point of view Hockey's hockey's different. You get a hot goaltender you can happen. You get a team that works really hard and you're going to have success and they can have that the nfl. So no i. i don't count the now. i bet on them. No no i wouldn't bet on Unless the number was right so they're good good hockey team but they're not one of my favorites in the eastern conference. Who do you see going what. What are your favorite team right now. A conference on both sides semifinals. While i i would. Yeah i know. I know you got the sports going on your betting guy. You know i. I love him obeys so i i think kucherov does come back And what they're doing without Kucherov in that lineup. I think it's pretty impressive. I'm still a boston fan boston. Even what they've lost as he can play a five four game. I think they can play it to one game. I think that's that's really really big carolina's a sneaky one. They're you know they're they're they're one of those teams. That young fast got great defense. They've used three goalies this here Carolina's one of those teams only for the money that that you get. If you're betting Betting with them right and on western conference. There's only two teams for me. I think between las vegas and colorado colorado my sort of the year Tillman cars Know the petra guys they have brunswick score so Colorado me vegas what they're doing especially flurry. And that's i mean he's an awesome man. Good I want to get to the betting stephanie. Get to that in just a second. I just want to get back to your playing days a little bit..

"Zimmerman and been talking to matthew barnaby. We lost you for a few seconds there earlier. Macchi there year-on-year. Okay so as were talking about. The rangers sent out. I mean the letter of letters. Basically we're gonna sauk and like we were saying he can't really get. I don't know if another small market team can do that. I mean they really took a chance doing this. trading away you know half the roster and just really gutting they and then you have the transition from luggage goaltending anymore and you know if if younger team the here here's like say for rangers sends out there. It's very bright and it's going to be a great team in years to come. I mean The talent level On the back end. I think when you look at the forwards They have a lot of promise. But there's going to be some growing pains and then you have a couple that with preparing leaving with what happened over there and you know. There's there's there's certainly not the way that they wanted it to playoffs. Advantage had not having the year that he had last year. Do i think he's going to be a forty goal. Scored no Do i think he's ten times the player that we're seeing right now. Yeah i mean he. He's very good so newark. Has that bright bright future in what they're trying to achieve some great young kids and i look at taco where where he is look friend year not probably not looking and everyone's like okay took club in ottawa. What he's doing now. He's in a different role But he's going to be a very very good player so Let's not rush to judgment. They're going to be a very very good team whether they make the playoffs or not. I didn't have them a playoff team. but certainly. The future is very very bright. Well one thing. I wanted to get to this year. Obviously very different D to covid They changed the way. The you know. You're only playing teams in your division. I was kinda hoping maybe go back to like the patrick. "I think the other the size of they are The physicality that that lies within I think you know physicality and just just all culture right. You're right wasting your family's you don't speak the language I i'm certainly a lot more. Probably sympathetic to watching these kids. Come across and having and knowing what they have to deal with I had to deal with it when i was a junior kid. I went to tobacco. City didn't the french and north spoke english. So i i understand that. I know how hard it could be but i think from the the on ice Part of it is just the the size of the rank. The physicality certainly much different than the north american deal. Because i've heard i know you know rangers. It's been a little bit of an up and down season tough loss today. They're bidding games losing games by wine. A lot of games lost in overtime or shootout and to me. I see it there on the cost. When i see that kind of stuff. They're not getting blown out a lot. But you know there's those games that are winnable and to me. That's teaching the franchise how how to win. I've heard through the grapevine. Quinn is having some issues with the he's brought in here. College coach developed a talent develop the players but there seems to be from what i've heard a little bit of an issue adjusting between him and the european players. I can see that. I can see where new york is and we can remember the letter that went out from the organization enrolling fans. That's going to be a process. And there's there's gonna be some pain basically gonna suck for the next few years. And i think that's a good way to handle it for your fan base especially when you're big big market. That's the you know if you're in ottawa I don't know if you have to sell that or encamped mattress. We lose ya seems. We're having a little issue with the station. Can you hear me yeah. "You can be the most You can be the fastest guy in the world I used to tell guys we got into college. They come coming in a million miles an hour like guy. You need to relax a little bit that little that little black talk to that were chasing around. It's really important. And if you're going a million miles an hour at all times you're not going to have success So yeah it's very very fast. But there's no nothing like replicating an nhl game not as fast in the in the sense that guys were running around all over the place With the talent level is just next level and the smarts are crazy. What about the physical parts of checking all that. Is it that much harder harder to the right word but is that part of the game is just that much more physical. I mean the guys are bigger faster. Stronger yeah i. It's more physical. Only to me. The biggest thing for for people to realize and the biggest thing i was now i found making the nhl easier. Make in junior hockey. The way that i was i was built. I i was smaller guy But for guys that coming up that that has success in junior Or the nc double a. The big thing is is the size. I mean you go in and and you're playing you know. Nc double a. You might go into the nineteen year old. You're planning a twenty year old or twenty one year old right. You're walking into the nhl twenty year olds. You might play a thirty five year old. That's a man. I mean he he. He's a man it's not a it's not a boy even though you're fast and you're strong and your whatever you there's something about man's strength and that was the biggest thing and walk into the locker rooms and playing against those guys The man's strength is something that just can't be duplicated until you get in there and figure a way around it and the way in an experience Anytime experienced a. Yeah just have to learn to to learn that nuance of the game. So that's the biggest thing for me is just man's strength You're playing against men. Are we seeing that now with some of these guys that are being drafted. Let's say top ten top fifteen picks and they're not i mean it's rare to see like a connor mcdavid or somebody committed even when crosby came in. There's so much hype on these guys and the expectations are so high that they're just not able to fulfil them right away. Is it part of it. Just they're not physically ready law. Yeah that's the. Yeah i think when you look at guys getting drafted you know very few guys probably the nfl nba where you draft the guy you know fifth overall or third overall they walk right in your lineup. And i'm a big football fan. You can draft a quarterback third overall sitting for year. He's not even playing and in the nfl. We don't expect them to play..

"I get to major junior seventeen years old and it was just trying to carve my way and try to make a team as opposed to being the most talented guy out there so i i say seventeen years old. It was when i really decided to carbon different niece. There's a lot of talented players out there. But who's willing to do this to to make a team so Like i said. I was fortunate I had the balls to do it knob. But in the end i had to coach that also believed in me and gave me options. You to do idea. So once i saw it was successful and i was able to get into people's nerves and also have success not only Probably the instigating ways but it also often open up opportunities as an instigator but also As an offensive guy. 'cause it it creates basically your celebrate when people may have a little bit of fear as well so they kind of the ever feel like they kind of left alone never took you seriously on the offensive end and all of a sudden you find yourself with an open shot and nobody near you. I think i grew into the game. Right like i i. I notice wanting to fight and wanted to do this. Like that's i. You can make the team. Then you draw back onto your past experiences as a kid being a talented right and then he just get a little more room than the tougher you are. I don't care what you are. I don't care what you do Tougher you are the more space you're gonna get so i got a little bit more space than than Fortunately the the talent or limit thereof Certainly took over. And i always able to points. Now i've had. I've had discussions with some guys that played college hockey and have gone on to not the nhl bud played in the minor league system and it was very curious. I wanna get your take on on the game. They told me that the college game is actually a lot faster than the nhl and the nhl the guys or just the games a little slower but the guys the players are just in the right place all the time at the right time which i i. Yeah i i call nc double a college hockey. I called controlled chaos. That's my nickname for it. And you'll never change guys going to million miles an hour all the time and it's very very fast. It's not talented by nomi robot. Even it's not even close. You're not getting the high end guys That you do in college that you are in the nhl. You're not finding a connor. Gave her an often matthews pat. Those guys don't go to college. Level is is so much further but as for speed..

"One and trying to carve their their their way into pro career. So it's much more I i think a lot A lot better hockey than it was. When i grew up as opposed to wear is now. Usa hockey and all levels especially long island that whole newark areas. Come such a long way but in canada in in the states you know i think you have so many people that play basketball footfall thakur. There's so many different sports in canada. No-one me play soccer or football or basketball. You play hockey or you don't pay that that. That's that's just the way it is. It's more of a cult or a coacher mentality than an actual sports. So if you don't play hockey like okay. What what what's wrong with. You do not have skates like everyone plays hockey so It certainly is very different. But i have to say coaching. The united states for a lot of years growing in the last twenty years for sure and usa hockey is so so good as opposed to where it was twenty years ago. Yeah now the development of usa away. I think even our junior program now being able to compete very competitively you know in the junior program on an international stage has changed a lot. So what was it like for you. You're playing youth hockey and then you get up to that age. How many kids actually get drafted to play. Juniors is because i know like i guess you're in high school and then you leave. I think it is and you know you go play junior hockey. How many players on your team on your roster actually get drafted to take that next level to take it to the next level. I was league developer so like we have the ontario league which is ontario Then we have. The western hockey league is all a western canada. Way of the correctly is The quebec obviously junior hockey league. Then we have like cure to which is the lowest so i. I was fortunate. I got drafted later. I was the only guy or two of us got drafted. I got drafted last overall. Junior and i was fortunate enough to to have a good coach and and of course enough to make it As for percentage. I mean there's all it's all different whether you want to try to go major junior if you wanna go to Play college hockey two different routes that you take so. I chose the major junior out. I wasn't a great student Loved hockey Was committed to playing hockey but also very fortunate at the same time To have my rousseau i was. I don't think there's an indicative can say it's one or two or three We had a very talented Seventy-three level which i'm seventy three births and i was probably on the lower at probably if i just say out of ottawa i was probably the thirtieth best seventy bursts. At that time now. I grew exponentially got a little bit bigger and stronger. Things started to equal themselves out as you got older but certainly Not already passes but we certainly believe. Hockey is our game and We're gonna be hockey player. Silver told l. otherwise. And what point. So you get drafted into the juniors now. At what point do you start to master email. You known as a player. That's test at. What point do you kinda start to master or crap that party or game yet. Great question I tally kid as as a youngster scoring two hundred points a year every single year as as a kid But then. I got fourteen fifteen. I didn't grow. And you know..

"But i think also Especially in my job i i. I didn't win saying okay. i'm gonna. I'm gonna fight this guy unless i had you. Let's say knew something the game before and made me wanna fight him. He hit a guy hardy. He did something that was idiotic. And i had to make sure our team was going to be screwed with For me it was all about winning. It was all the winning the game. So if i had to first of all drawn into a penalty and take a punch and then fight him later. That was all part of the process. But it's all of a winning winning winning winning hockey and That's all that matters to me whether i won. The fight lost a fight. Whoever i fought it was the winning hakim in the day. And he's speaking of rob. Ray i mean you got traded. He's a former teammate of yours. You go out to dinner with him the night before and the next night. You drop in the gloves. Yeah i mean it's one of those things you never wanna fight. A friend is not something. That's comfortable like dinner. My house before But once once you get on the ice. I mean i at that time i was same for pittsburgh. Penguins he's playing for the buffalo sabres and you know the way the game progresses. It just happens. It's not like i set out or he said out 'cause he certainly didn't and we didn't like fighting's other ended up winning the fighters pretty close but it is what it is but you set forward and i try to assess this everyone. I was playing for the district penguins as much as i love my time for buffalo for seven years. I was there at that night. Pittsburgh penguins flavor buffalo sabres and he was doing the best for his team is doing the best for my team. We thought would help our team In any which way but definitely different different scenario when you have to fight one of your best friends i. It's very very different right. You got the friendship Away from the next however long. And you know it's wars war you've got to win the game So you you play kennedy playing youth hockey swear to go back to. Maybe you know back to the childhood a little bit With island hockey's pretty big hair. We produce you know fair amount of players from the island I grew up. Just north of the city. Hockey's very big there to hockey here is nothing like hockey's and canada. It definitely get for night. Coach might fund with the ninety eight played. We played against the long island goals with adam fox and Obviously charlie mcevoy. And jeremy bronco a lotta guys that are not even those three that went on to say d..

"You know that you might be hit hard and you wanted to defend yourself and third you might want to cause committee The other team. So if there's so many different variances. I think in hockey that you know special because of it now also two in terms of you know. Let's use the word. Let's say goon. Which i i hate that word because you had skill i mean. We see that you can score. There's a lot of players that possess both that fighting ability and scoring and then there's like the pure goon that's going out there justified Who were some of. You are legit like legit guys. That could could drop the gloves that you face. Yeah i mean. I'm never going to be considered a goon. I don't think you don't know this sport right like i. I weighed in one hundred eighty pounds when i played the game so if i was one hundred and eighty eight man i was i was taught. I wasn't actually that tough guys. I had to fight. Were to forty to fifty to sixty you. Look at the top top guys. And then they did their job you know whether they were goons. They were heavyweights. They were tough guys. That was the role that was that was traveling in the nhl through. You know the eighties nineties and early two thousand so obviously changed a lot and and rightfully so. I think the games evolved and we've evolved as as people I look a to grimsson joey. Kosher bob probe the great bob. Covert unreal. I mean there's a lotta guys back in the day. They could really hurt you. Twenty twists. I mean to go on and on and on so many guys that really can hurt. You had to be yet to be ready. Because i've i've been asked many times are were you. Were you nervous. When he fought hell. Yeah hell yeah. I was nervous. He has to break your face. They could break your orbital bone. The creek knows They break your jaw with one. Punch so yeah. Of course i'd be nervous There was a lot a lot of tough guys. But bob grover joey kosher like i said twenty with dirk bogarde so many tough guys and they went when my favorites. 'cause was you know big ranger fan big hockey fan for watching you. And you're you're getting hit. You know you gotta take your hits in..

Lots of private is lots of cop shows on tv and for quinn. Martin was one of the kings of those shows and of course he passed away in the nineteen eighties. So we don't have anymore quinn martin productions anymore but they were unique in how they were presented and he had some big successes like cannon barnaby jones and the fbi. But also a bunch of mrs including one with burt reynolds. That i'd heard about but don't remember watching back in the nineteen sixties. It's kind of funny. How a name just kind of jogs a memory and jobs at time. And let's memories again. There are always so good. I gotta admit i can get lost in the barnaby jones or a cannon every now and again.
