"Mississippi River. Water. I'm joined by captain E Michael bakke is the president of the Crescent river port pilot association and he is on the line from Metairie Louisiana. What are you experiencing? What are you seeing when you are on the water? Well, from the river pilots standpoint. And the lower part of the Mississippi River where we handle all foreign deep draft vessels. And when you say a deep draft vessel, exactly what is that for people who aren't familiar, kind of like me. So shipping a ship, a vessel, whether it's a cruise ship or a tanker, a deep draft vessel is the distance between the water and the bottom of the ship. The only place you can go in a deep draft vessel is from the sea buoy and the Gulf of Mexico and southwest paths. It starts to get more shallow So as far as the effect on the deep draft that's below that rouge, we're not physically affected. It's not physically affecting our depth. We're not bumping the bottom of anything like that. The effect is above Baton Rouge and in the northern part of the country where the bargers are losing water level and the barges are not getting down here. And because of that bottleneck up above, it's slowing everything down when those barges would usually come your way. Yeah, so what happens specifically in bulk like corn, soybeans, rice, it is grown

"Has always been on the right track for success. He was born Robert William Barker on December 12th, 1923 in darrington, Washington. His parents nicknamed him Billy. His mother, Tilly, was a teacher. His father Byron, who was one fourth Sioux Indian, was an electrician. In the late 1920s, Byron Barker moved his family to Brownsville, Texas, where he worked on an electrical construction site. He suffered a series of work related injuries which eventually took his life when bob was 6 years old. I remember when he was terminally ill, he was at home, and one day he called me into his room. And he said, Billy, you must always take care of your mother. Because he realized that he was not going to live. I remember that. Bob would remember the promise he made to his father. In 1931, he moved with his mother to mission South Dakota, located on the rosebud Indian reservation. Tilly barger resumed teaching at a local public school, mother and son survived the best they could as the country was swept into The Great Depression. Bob made friends with many of the Indian children on the reservation, as well as the straight dogs in the area. He told me that when he was a little boy, he and his mother lived on the rosebud Indian reservation. And there was a two story hotel, which was the only two story building on the reservation. And when she wanted to find him, she'd go to the second floor and look out or up on the rooftop and look out and look for a pack of dogs. And she knew when she saw them, that undoubtedly she would find Billy. Bob's boyhood respect for animals would grow as he matured into adulthood, so too it is empathy for native Americans. He'll talk about this junior high basketball team. And the names of the players were all very India and he feels very strongly about the problems that they've had. That they've been incredibly badly treated. In 1936, bob's mother remarried. Her second husband, Lewis valland, was half Sue and worked for the reservation commission. The following year, the couple had a son, Kent. Bob, who was already 15 at the time, immediately bonded with his half brother. Her barber's a very thoughtful brother. Of course he was quite a bit older than I was. So it wasn't a situation where we could ever pal around, because I was three when he was in high school. But we've always been very close. And now this week in Native American news, several people injured in a horrific scene as an SUV, plows through a Native American parade in Gallup, New Mexico. Yeah, the vehicle came really close to Navajo Nation president Jonathan nez and his family and tonight the drivers and custody. Fox ten Stephanie Bennet joins us now with the latest on this and Steph, this really was a close call for the president and his family. Yeah, we caught up with the president and his wife earlier today who are still very shaken up, obviously. Now his wife was saying that she had to pull their 6 year old son out of the street and the car just missed all of them by inches. But halfway into the parade, you know, we heard a lot of commotion. Navajo Nation president Jonathan nez recalls the terrifying moments when this Chevy Tahoe came speeding towards him and his family at the Gallup intertribal ceremonial Centennial celebration in New Mexico. As the vehicle passed us, it was just beaten, maybe even inches from where I was standing. His wife, the First Lady of the Navajo Nation, quickly grabbed their 6 year old son out of the street just in the Nick of time. And Ryan, when I looked back, I seen just the front of the vehicle, but I couldn't assess how fast it was approaching. All I knew was get your son and get out of the way. Many people capturing the chaotic scene on video, at least 15 people were injured, including two police officers, most were minor injuries. I saw the many people that were very distraught very close tight knit community, but like I said, we're going to overcome this. The New Mexico state police say the driver, 33 year old Jeff Irving and two passengers were drinking inside the vehicle parked near the parade route when police went up to the car, Irving sped away, striking officers, pedestrians, and other vehicles before hitting another police car, he was then arrested at the scene. Police say Irving's blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit, he was without a valid license and the SUV had no registration or insurance. Investigators say there is no reason to suspect the crime was motivated by hate. And the Gallup ceremony will continue, I think it is very important that we show the resilience of

"Big question is, who's going to play you in the movie? I don't know. We were thinking Danny DeVito. He's got to be Italian. Well, he's got to say that. I was think of peewee Herman. I don't think he's the type. Do you need to be just got the range, right? Here's where we deploy. A Pesci. Yeah. Well, I would say the order is out. Unfortunately, man. God bless him. But I'll tell you, he's tied up on another rule, but I thought it would be good to be Dwayne The Rock Johnson. There you go. He'd have to put some hair on. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, well. You never know? Hey, if he's interested. He's got a passage. We have him on the show. He's actually doing Mel's life story right now. Yes. And that's one of the reasons why we have not been able to get Mel on is you're talking about male. Male chance. There you go. Last weekend. You showed us the pictures of him. You were saying he's actually Murph was showing one of the guys. He said, well, because they were trying to figure out who was the head of the hells angels in someplace. We said, Sonny barger, no, I never heard of the guy that they were talking about, where he said Mel chancy. So he showed me a picture. You remember did you see the one he showed you? What Mel when he looked like a if I'd seen that thing coming at me, I thought what it was the fucking devil had been reincarnated. He looked like that. I know you guys interviewed my buddy J Dobby's. Jay says in his book, no angel, you know, Jay met Mel when he was when Jay was in the hells angels, and he described Noah's the scariest man I've ever met in my life. Yeah. He's massive. Yeah. He's got and if you're interested, take a look at him on Instagram. He posted a picture of his younger days recently. And he does, he just looks like pure evil. He's got muscles everywhere. And I tell everybody listen to me. That's why they give cops shotguns. That's right. Because that man would just hurt you. You need a tank for him, man. He promised me that when he is no longer in her obligation with The Rock, yours will be the first podcast he does. Fantastic. It's fantastic. You guys are gonna love it. You're gonna love it. And you know what? And God bless him too, and you talk about redemption. So there's a life of redemption right there. And it's rare. I believe it's rare. For a lot of these guys, because they get so deep into the life they can't turn themselves around, but Mel truly. He's walking the walk. He's just you hear a bunch of guys talking it, but this guy has for years. Walk the walk. And I think he's done good. But back to our regular schedule podcast on Lou veloci. So what's next? So you've got the options on there. Do you have any idea of a timeline? I know it's going to be a long one, but any idea how they identified a writer yet or you close to it? They're chasing this, I guess, talking to this Brad inglesby. They've got about 50 a list of about 50 writers. "Most worldwide renowned iconic biker on the planet. Doesn't matter what gang, who you are, everybody and anybody knows whose Sonny barger is. And he's responsible for the internationalization of the hells angels for the expansion of the hells angels. They've become, as we said earlier, a worldwide international crime syndicate, that is due to the leadership and foresight of Sonny barger. So you might say that sunny bargers to hells angels, what Steve Jobs was to like Apple and technology just took him to a whole new level. I've said many times that if sunny barger had used his powers and skills and charm and charisma for good, he would be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. But the point I'm making there is they can say all they want, but the point about it is if they did not have the utmost trust and if it was not a shoe in that you're gonna be voted in, they would not let you within a state in the same state as Sonny barger much less writing and accompanying him to laconia, right? If they didn't believe it, if they didn't believe us, or if they felt like they were tricked, it would have ended right in that trailer. Yeah, a couple shots. That would be the end of it, and as we've established already, you were working without a cover team. So we may not have found you for a while. Well, I would have ended up buried in a shallow grave duct taped, and you already told him how to do it 'cause you showed him the pictures. Well, you know what, and I understand their reaction. You know what? No one likes to be tricked. No one likes to be humiliated. No one likes to be betrayed. Anybody that's ever suffered a betrayal, even if it's just, you know, you're in high school and your girlfriend decides that she's going to go out with somebody else. No one likes how that feels to be tricked. And from ground zero over the course of two years, we had built trust. And then the trust turned into loyalty in some cases, the loyalty turned into love. There's no doubt in my mind that and I was even told this by members of the hells angels when they found out who I really was. I would have stepped in front of a bullet for you. There was a hells angel who was reluctant to cooperate. And I came into an interview room and said, dude, man, I'm sorry..

Not behind any sort of fence. And so yeah, those can be found on YouTube. Nothing new was exactly what the title says. It was a lot of ways just kind of rebating the second half of the 2020 season with the mammoth quarter pipe and also a lot of inbounds shredding in the northwest. So that has that sort of aesthetic, I guess. And then I also real quick. I can't fucking believe that I thought that that guy was Parker white. I'm never gonna get over it. I still think to this day, I've watched a thousand times after barger told me that I still think that fucking guy whoever it is is his name is Brad Andrew. He's Brad Andrew. He's in the wrong business. He actually should be a comedian. He's fucking yeah, maybe. He maybe should be a hair model. He was Paul Mitchell or some shit. Like that shit's wild. He's a photographer from Bellingham that we work pretty closely with and he was 6 8 6 and he has never he never skied before and he was one of these like he was from the generation of snowboarders that just shit on skiing and but he's always he calls ski boots plastics. You guys get your new plastics today. Yeah, he just started calling himself Parker and I don't know the way his mind works but anyways. Anyway, we decided to film a skate where he freaky Fridays into Parker's body. But that's awesome that you thought that was Parker. 100%. But I filmed a longer version of that where he's like, I'm Parker, I got these plastics, my dad, he also loved in, by the way. He's.

Make sure you go on there, use BSA, get up to 200%, sign on bonus when you go over there. I've been using it. Unfortunately, the bucks didn't help me out last night. I thought I thought they were gonna win. I thought I picked the bucks. I took the points. I thought they were gonna win easily. It was looking pretty good for a while, but man. What happened? It's a turnover, man. And you know what, and both the public and the wise guys actually were on Tampa Bay. So you were on the right side allegedly, but I think they had four turnovers, maybe Tampa did. Yeah. So with that, it's tough to win. Even with Brady, they tough to cover. They pulled out the win thanks to Tom Brady and, you know, that last call, I don't know if it was pass interference or not. But you think yeah, right? So I don't know if it was lucky then, but, you know, what a start or here in the past with boy making that decision. I mean, I think past nation has to be just excited about Mac Jones, right? Yeah. You know, I would think so. Before we get going into that, one thing I wanted to a note to people about bet U.S...

"This was the first time a hypertext like system would be shown off to a large audience. Engelbert had been working on a very similar line of research to that of ted nelson but he took a different approach. The system he produced called the online system or in s. was a lot more than just hypertext alone. Ls was a massive and expansive system. One that i've covered a little bit before. But i definitely need to come back to in this series if i had to summarize then i'd say at its core we have three big features hypertext graphics and time sharing the hypertext part or i guess more accurately hyper media is something. We've already been looking at a key difference was that. Mls presented more structured data. Everything was in some kind of hierarchy and there were limits to the size and complexity of entries inside that barger structure not as free willing is ats but perhaps easier to wrap your mind around..

"Global embarrassment. Just take the reports that our forces slunk away from the strategically vital Bagram Arab base. In the middle of the night. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says Afghanistan is unraveling. The Pentagon says the pullout is orderly and responsible and that Afghan civilian and military leaders were briefed on the Bagram withdrawal, though not on the exact timing. So how is all of this perceived on the ground? Does it feel sudden? It does seem sudden, Lisa. I mean, I think people were getting used to the United States being around. And even though this has been telegraph for several months, the rapid to Barger of the U. S troops and in the view of many here that's got people concerned. And in fact, that's Considered a real reason why we're seeing this uptick and fighting between the Taliban and Afghan government forces. We were out at the Bagram air base over the weekend, and that's where the U. S military really centered all of its activity where I spent a lot of time over the past. 20 years, and it was basically a ghost town of skeleton, Afghan military force managing things but very unhappy. They were left. Literally in the dark of night without too much advanced notice, because, according to the Pentagon, they had to do that for security reasons. But yes, the feeling is that, frankly They have been deserted and and they have not been prepared to fight this enemy, probably the Pentagon, United States officials would say something different. Are you saying that Afghan forces feel deserted or the Afghan people feel deserted or both? Both the soldiers that we talked to, for example, out of that ballroom based Older skosh there, the United States left, They turned off the electricity. They didn't tell us out up to run certain things. They felt a little bit out of shape. Based on what you've seen on the ground and talking to people there. What would you say to anyone in Afghanistan war in the US Who thinks the past 20 years has not been worth it. That's a question that we ask a lot of people, including. I asked the acting ambassador to from the United States here, man named Ross Wilson. I said exactly that. I asked exactly that. I said, Was it worth it? And his words and I think that the most diplomatic thing you could say only time will tell. But he, too, cited at least this social gains that have been made over all these years. And that is something concrete. But he acknowledged that the military strategic situation it's not my questionable listen. Since you've been there so many times over so many years. Is there anything that has surprised you this time on this trip? I think I'm always surprised by the vitality of this city that the bustling nature of it because Kabul itself has gone through a lot of different phases, where there have been a lot of more attacks than currently but again. Everybody I talked to said that you know this could this could change in a heartbeat, But I think overall the, uh the suddenness of the departure of the troops is in Pretty strong, leaving a strong impression on myself as well. I think we're all used to the support of the U. S. And others here in Afghanistan used to the United States sticking around and in different battlefields. South Korea, Germany. For even decades after their immediate involvement, So so, in fact, there are a couple of things that strike me here, Lisa during my time. One more thing I president Biden has said, You know, he's expressed there will be continued support for the Afghan people. Um, do you find any sense of optimism about that sort of encouragement going forward? Yes, General Mackenzie, the same time commander will be running things from afar said that the support for Afghanistan by the United States will continue. That means striking this place from just an air bases like dojo, for example, and you just can't do the same thing. I like having bases here, so there is nervousness about that There are commitments for funding to continue. And I think that is expected by the by the Afghan government and the Afghan people, and so from a monetary stand by, I think the United States could stay involved militarily, it seems to be zeroing down. Well, Greg Palkot, Fox News, senior Foreign affairs correspondent. We wish you safe travels as always, sir. And thank you very much for your time. Thank you, basic. You're talking with him. You're.

"Afghanistan is now more than 95% complete an updated estimate from US Central Command on Tuesday, Just a day after the top U. S commander in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller gave up his post, passing the reigns to the head of Central Command Marine General Frank McKenzie Until the mission ends next month. This ceremony marks an important milestone. The transition of our involvement in Afghanistan. But it's not. The end of the story is rather the end of a chapter Mackenzie offering reassurance about the U. S commitment to its Afghan partners, even as security concerns arise, along with the amount of territory and border crossings being seized by the Taliban, the UN's refugee agency is warning Afghanistan is on the brink of another humanitarian crisis, with more people forced to leave their homes this year, and more civilians injured in fighting conditions in Afghanistan are not great. We've been here on the ground for several days now and Seeing reports across the country of the Taliban militants clashing with Afghan troops. Greg Palkot, senior foreign affairs correspondent for Fox News, is in Kabul. The common estimation right now is that the Taliban has control of at least a third of the country and that they're contesting another third. That is a whole lot. So far, The fighting has not entered in four fashion the capital of Kabul, where we are right now, but there were scattered reports of assassinations, and I'd black, which left people dead. So that's getting people nervous here, Lisa There had been a Russian news agency report about a statement from the Taliban's political office, saying that they're not attempting a military takeover. The country is anyone they're buying that No, no one really is. We talked to a leading politicians and she told me that the Taliban hasn't changed and you can't trust the Taliban with anything. There are no signs that they are going to let up on the fighting. So the indications we're getting his that peace talks. Would be resuming between the Taliban and the Afghan government and Doha. Aw, that's where they've been going on for the last few months, and in fact years no sign that this could be any kind of breakthrough. But if these are reports are correct It could mean that the Taliban is sort of angling for position diplomatically. I'm in the battlefield, Lisa. What about the Afghan capital Kabul, where you are? Is it fair to say that it's not what many Americans might expect? This city? Lisa has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. When I was first year when the Taliban were running things it was it was pretty backward. But now since the Taliban has fallen There have been semi modern governments here. There's been a real pickup in business. There have been a real pick up in construction and as here is hectic scene of traffic here again. People are watching all of these reports of fighting going on around the capital very, very closely, and I've got to tell you and we've talked to folks a lot in the last several days. They are very, very nervous. In Kabul, though in the city where there isn't fighting. What is a typical day like I mean, is it just like any other city where you know people are going to work going home going to the store? They have a lot of freedom there. There is a lot of traffic. I can say that number one coming from New York originally reminds me a little bit of midtown Manhattan. But just a little bit crazier and people are going about their business. Um What we've been highlighting is the emergence of of women back into society after they were kept down by the Taliban for for the years that they ruled this country and People are girls are going to school women. About a quarter of the government employees are women there into private sector jobs as well. They're dressing in a more modern style, and that's One of the biggest changes that I've seen over the years here in Afghanistan in Kabul, Lisa 20 years ago, the women were all wearing these all covering. Uh, outfits, and now it's It's quite a bit bit of a different scene. So there is a lot at stake, because, frankly, the to put a button on that the fear is that of the Taliban takes over and all of these social gains get pulled back. I mean, let's take, for instance, I know there are a number of women owned beauty shops now in in Kabul. What I mean is the thinking that if the Taliban takes over, literally all of that could be wiped out overnight. Because here we are in this really global society were in the Internet age. It isn't what it was 20 years ago. Is there really a sense that they can get away with doing that? That they could just swoop in and say, You know what? All these businesses. You don't own the partner Lee because you see this metropolis a city that you can't understand could go back to almost a stone age in some ways, But again, politicians we speak to hear sake do not trust the Taliban, the areas that they do control, which, frankly, are more rural. Areas that they do control. They still do what they did before. Girls can't go to schools. Uh, women can't go outside of their homes without without accompaniment by by men, etcetera, etcetera. So in fact They are trying to put on a more modern face to the outside world at the different Taliban speakers and officials travel around various countries, but the reality is The old style Taliban President Trump had been planning to pull U. S troops out even sooner by May, 1st. But he and other Republicans have been criticizing the way the Biden withdrawal is happening, especially the departure from a long time. U. S hub reckless rush for the exits. It's becoming a global embarrassment. Just take the reports that our forces slunk away. From the strategically vital Bagram airbase. In the middle of the night. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says Afghanistan is unraveling. The Pentagon says the pullout is orderly and responsible and that Afghan civilian and military leaders were briefed on the Bagram withdrawal, though not on the exact timing. Well, I'll tell you second half of the 19 nineties 95 through 99 s and P $500.20 percent. Plus, he's crying. He's crying. Just incredible bastard could barely speak David Wilson. Thank you. So much right now, In honor of the summer, we go to Shonali Bassett, who? Just alone. She is always telling coffee. And she's having that new tell a lot out there. Yes, that's what I want you to get the summer in the Hamptons going baloney, You know, shall you nailed it when we were talking earlier this morning. What odds Summer. Is it from the Hamptons in to the work from office? 2021? Yes, Summer is over before it began and sorry for everybody. It's raining this weekend before they get to enjoy their coming back to the office. June 1st Citadel does expect everyone starting to come back. People have already been coming back, Tom honestly. Bankers are telling me and, frankly, their clients that they're turning away work so busy so we expect starting on Tuesday. Ah lot of work. A lot of people getting on planes seeing clients. So what's ramifications? Come on. I talked to an Internet Morgan Stanley. She's gonna be in New York in the office, etcetera, etcetera. All the fancy guys in the fancy suits and ties, Take the Sikorsky and to go to the office in the middle. Do they really want to come back? First of all people are dressing more casually. I'm noticing that right? So you know, maybe ditch the tie a bow tie. Wow, You don't even know what you're asking for Shonali. It's going to get rough in here. I will say that we are hearing both on one side that it's going to get really busy over the summer. With people heading back to the office. And on the other hand, you've got the likes of Citigroup having worker appreciation day today, I believe, saying, Everybody take the take the day off because we know that you are beat. So which is it? Are people beat or they're ready to go back to the office there beat everybody's exhausted, but I'm personally, That's why you take today off. You leave early. You have a good weekend, and you have a proper Monday because it will be busy starting next week. Once again. Again biggest hedge funds back in the office. We're expecting a huge plate of deals. I pose all in full force all through the summer. Right? There are some firms right? There are hedge funds that are saying come back in September or come back even next year, and you could have some work life balance working from home firms like to Sigma D. Shaw, But again, Goldman Sachs, it's June 14th. That's the day that they expect, folks while J. P. Morgan is expects a greater Lisa realize Lisa, we have David Causton and celebrate his whole team was in the off. Yet, he said that it was there was a buzz. It did feel good. Should Ali are you surprised by how many banks have brought employees back to the office sooner than you had previously expected, So I'm not because I think a lot of people the executive ranks have been back for very many months. Now. I think anybody who's been pushing to stay home has felt a little isolated from their teams. Things get done faster when you're next to somebody right, and once the CDC jot their mask rules or the recommendations We've seen. Some banks also dropped those rules so people are back to work. The restaurants are open again. I've got to say people are in different places. So all my sources that were in Miami are still in Miami. So All right. Well, they'll be back in New York. I mean, the real question here that I think we all want a notion. Ali is what's traffic on the be like, come Tuesday. It's exhausting already. Um, I'm gonna be able to get a number because it's already getting crazy out. Now. I've been walking home every day to try to if you hadn't tried to escape that the train's air full. The traffic is crazy. Remain if you have, if you have if your appearance surveillance three consecutive days You get too used to the surveillance. Of course. Keep that be nice. That one of us should I leave very quickly or 20. Seconds to James Diamond. Have a good week. Yeah, you know, he spent seven hours being rolled in Washington and he got his say. Okay. Should I like Basset? Thank you so much. See it left hand coffee way way out on in the Hamptons throughout that out, too. Montag Aziz was CEO nailed. At least you know Hamptons? Yeah. When was the last time you were at the Hamptons? Okay. It was just starts laughing. It was a transitory true, right? No, I'm transitory. I'm not a big fan. Yeah, You're You're Manhattan kind of guy. You're above 59th Street below 81st Street kind of guy. I'm gonna be up rumored in June. And I'm supposed to go up. We're the gentleman from RBC Capital Markets is in Portland and up the coast of Maine. And, you know, I thought was gonna say was going like up. They don't have exactly seven may go down so this weekend, but seriously, Wow..

"Three four. It's florida. Friday is set time The week where we see. What's going on with those florida free. Everybody's on math. Burglars renewed this always alligators and knows florida. Pools florida women steal a beer bucket full of sex toys. I didn't know you were supposed to keep your sex toys and a beer bucket. It's a new one for me. I don't really own any sex stories. But if i had a bunch of them i'd have to get a bear bucket to women bonilla's county but now this county. Oh the trifecta. We have three pinellas county stories. You couldn't pay me enough to live in this county to women and bonello. County allegedly stolen an entire bucket filled with sex toys that were meant for charity. The charity sex toy charity. And we've donated a thousand dollars and this beer bucket of sex toys. Just what the kids need. Gulfport is a small florida town near saint petersburg this. This town is at a loss for words. After the police say two women still two hundred dollars worth of vibrators in a beer bucket with were there any beers in that beer bucket as well. You know some corona and some vibrators that sounds like it sounds like a nice combination Salty's gulfport sports bar. Salty's they have some surveillance footage. That shows suspects. Police reportedly have since identified. Two women entered the bar and they left with thirteen vibrators that they stashed in a purse. It's quite a haul. Thirteen vibrators sounds like a good weekend. The the owner of salty's was the. I want to know what the the charity was four. What charity are you giving away vibrators to the owner informed police that the bar was aware of one of the suspects names because it was on their bar tab eight ago lady. You left your your name on the bar tab and then like hey before we go. Let's steal steal something from this place. That i just gave my name and i d do brilliant pinellas county citizens. Wow they just no brains over there. No brains salty's reportedly is pressing. Charges does not want the stolen sex toys. Return for obvious. Reasons actually says that does not want the stolen sex toys. Return for obvious reasons. Yeah yeah we saw those women. We know what they're probably going to do with those things. According to the reports one of the women content contacted the barger let them know she thought the bucket the bucket had darts in it. Not sex vibrators. Shut up liar. Straight up liar. I thought it had darts in it. Yeah 'cause darts look like vibrators and what world are you living in the pass off you thought darts where vibrators lady took nothing like a vibrator if you said that you thought they were beers maybe unbelieving you you know it's about the same size as a vibrator and some of those beer bottles are brightly. Colored like vibrators tend to be as well the vibrators were evidently for what never heard of one of these a charity vibrator race. What does that anybody ever heard of a charity. Vibrator race have to google this. Oh am i glad. I googled this. I just watched the video of an actual vibrator race. This is not what i thought at all at all right. Very tiny vibrators not the big ones. Not the ill does that. You normally associate when you think vibrators so they are very small like the ones that you kind of just like fit on your finger. You know these ones well. They line up a bunch of multicolored little tiny vibrators on a ramp and they turn them on and let them go and they travel and they vibrate down the ramp and one of them wins. This is how the vibrator racist work. So what she did was grab a bunch of small. It was a bucket full of small vibrators. Then she then said that they were darts but they are very tiny. This seems like a fun. Time by the way Vibrator racing. I never thought to do this. And i'm not gonna say that. I wouldn't attend a charity vibrator race because i probably would seem like a good time. You should google check it out. I mean isn't that something. We're learning on weird af news and you know fostering new interests in life. Perhaps a new hobby. You like podcast. You're listening to my podcast. Maybe you thought you so. We're told the packages worth in total 1.9 trillion In the meantime, we're going to bring in Theresa Barger CEO at Kartika Management to joining us from Washington, D. C. Theresa, Thanks for being with us the data that we had overnight, particularly out of China, the export figure up 18% in the month of December that was Unexpectedly strong reading. Does that make you more bullish on China right now? Um not really. I mean, China has done extremely well in 2020. They just reached a 12 year high and the stock market. Um, but the covert advantage that they have, I think will wear off as we go into 2021, which looks to be a golden age for the emerging markets. And what particular market Sorry, Tereza for interrupting. I just wanted to see which particular markets you're seeing a further upside because when we look at am covert and covert management and vaccine rollouts, a very, very different and you've got some markets. You look at career in India at or near records. Yes. So I think that what we are seeing is that there is an alignment of the stars that we only see in certain occasions. We're seeing secular weakness of the U. S. Dollar above trend growth as the world recovers low interest rates plus two continued boost from says liquidity. And so I think What we're going to see is a lot of flows into emerging markets, equities as a whole or under, um, represented and they ask in overall asset baskets 5% lower market share than they had genuine 2018. And we also had that $100 billion, leaving emerging markets the beginning of the pandemic. Very little of that has returned. So there's a lot. I think a lot to go on go. That should lift a lot of votes. I think people are seeing that the favorite North Asian countries China, Korea and Taiwan. Are really great, long term place, and I don't expect, uh, people to abandon them. But they marginal money, I think could be looking at places like Indonesia, Poland, Mexico, which has been quite under booked, Um I agree. Brazil in India are overweight now in emerging markets, even though Investors as a whole are underweight. Um, the emerging markets index compared Tonto its weight, Theresa, you're coming to us from Washington, D C and I'm curious to get your take on the new administration and the degree to which It may tweak U. S China relations. We were talking earlier on the program about to the U. S placing new restrictions on companies like Xiaomi and and see nook. You think this is going to continue under the Biden administration, or will they redefine some of these restrictions? You know, I no one knows the answer to that. But I would expect there would be less capital markets nationalism because it's been very scarce under the Trump administration. But I expect them to have a more nuanced policy where they will cooperate where they need to cooperate and compete fiercely where they need to compete, but not necessarily cut off their capital markets knows Tol spite their face. We also are expecting from the bottom administration. A lot more focus on SG. What do you looking at in that space? Absolutely. Um, I think that what we can see is regulatory changes is actually not expensive for the administration's not adding that much to the deficit signing the Paris agreement or its substitute. Ah, lot of the emerging markets have signed the appearance. Paris agreements and so many of Kartika portfolio companies are now looking at their carbon footprints, how to reduce them. We help them with Brian said. He s G. There's a lot of excitement around that their employees are very excited about having companies that have a purpose in the world and serve a mission. So I'm very bullish on ESPN emerging market. Is there anything that you're concerned about? That could really upend your entire thesis. Absolutely, um the singing bee at the barbecue could be inflation. Um, inflation could lead the U. S to raise rates. Now we just heard from Jay Powell that doesn't want to take her tantrum, but anything that strengthens the U. S dollar and reverses that secular trends down. Could be a negative for the E M story. And so it all comes back to the will there be inflation or will there be no inflation debate? You're still looking at the potential of further weakness in the dollar on the on the longer term trend for 2021. Is that right? Absolutely I I can see that we might be in a multiyear, secular down trend for the U. S. D. We were talking the other day about the unbelievable strength in the offshore Chinese Yuan and the extent to which the PBOC is sending a signal to markets by Setting a weaker fixed over the last two days. Are you worried about the potential for like, I don't want to say necessarily a currency war but micromanaging of currencies in the way that the market is is trying to value them. I'm not terribly concerned. We always will build in the cushion for some sort of FX depreciation over our 12 year history. We have seen some years when it I the way that strengthening from your ears. We've had a weakening and overall it's about a 3% per year weakening, but we can overcome that quite easily with good stock selection and having upside for the stocks. So day to day movements. I'm not so concerned it is possible that you wan just on his own fundamentals could strengthen And I'm not surprised that the Chinese government would want to manage that because They do manage that basket. When it comes to we're talking your broader market themes. But when it comes to sexual themes or company themes as well, we know 2020 was so heavily dominated by the big tech players. What are you looking at? In terms of, I guess disruptors from am market says some of the perhaps a smaller companies that are definitely gaining more traction, particularly when you look at Southeast Asia. Uh, yes, I mean, one area that is really going gangbusters is intact. We're looking at in tech companies, including like payment companies who are competing against cash, not competing against big banks that competing against cash. We're talking about companies that are basically creating their own markets. And so I think there's a lot of opportunity all over the E. M. So Southeast Asia. We're seeing that Egypt has a payment startup. It's still only a 1.7 billion market cap company so very reasonable. One of the largest online banks in the world is only $7 billion market cap in Russia created by really brilliant entrepreneur, Um and we're seeing this innovation everywhere, and this is models that are quite different from what you see in the developed world..

Locked Down in Switzerland and Belgium

"Start with Stephen mcfeely he operates being be on Ireland's dingle peninsula in just before the pandemic head Stephen an interest in the hotel Oberland in October and Switzerland that's where he's had to ride out the first few months of the global lockdown good and. My goodness. My Irish friend is learning Spitzer dykes. Good here in the Alps where I've been for four months. Now in splendid isolation, my plan originally was just to come for February and March, but I've I'm still here right well, what does the vibe in Switzerland right now there's a positive vibe. The society is reopening. Tourism travel has started again just no we're on the same level as it was before we had two weekends where there was crazy crowds here huge big crowds from all over Switzerland everybody who was here was from Switzerland or had to be from Switzerland. They weren't necessarily all Swiss because there's lots of international people living in Geneva and Derek and whatnot but everybody from within the barger of Switzerland over with crowds, and then it just died and Monday to. Friday went back to being really really quiet. Okay. Well, this is sort of the very beginnings of the rekindling of tourism I would imagine it'll be people traveling with within their own countries first, and then traveling within Europe, and then finally international travel and transatlantic travel. Yes. That's exactly what we're seeing. The borders here have just reopened. So we're expecting Germans and some Austrians and maybe some French to come now also, I don't anticipate huge numbers like that would have been heretofore. One. Very noticeable thing in the Valley of course, there's no American visitors. As you know, the valley also is very popular with. Chinese travelers Indians many people from Dubai and Saudi Arabia would come here and they're not here this year. So there's a noticeable difference there. So the people getting the real cultural change would be the French speaking. Swiss. German speaking part of his Switzerland and not even leaving their own country exactly. Fifty percent of our guests. Last week were French speaking Swiss and it was the first time I've ever actually met those people and I would say to them. Are you French Swiss would say no, no, we are. All MOM and so I I learned something new immediately the K. The identify as swirl. They were saying exactly what you just said they said it's like we are in a different country it's very dramatic here it's different toossion either those on the do shut down it was really cool. They were very excited to see a different part of their own country. So that was wonderful. Now Stephen you own a hotel in Ireland in Dingle Peninsula and now you own a hotel in Switzerland in Loudoun valley two of my favorite places as a businessman working in both these countries how do you compare the support getting from the government and how the two governments are dealing with this crisis? Well, the difference is. Very. Big. I'm still on team. Ireland. So I want to be positive about my own country, but there's not a lot of support coming. Heretofore in Switzerland for example, within two weeks of the crisis occurring. The. Swiss Federal Council which is the Swiss government offered ten percent of the previous year's turnover and So that's quite a considerable amount of money and they offered that as a loan which was repayable over seven years. Zero percent interest. So they're not looking to profit from it and in Ireland we really struggled to get some assistance. And we got ten thousand euros of overdraft line of credit and but repayable at seven and a half percent interest in Switzerland. We got three hundred thousand. So it's quite a big difference there no-interest at all. No interest at all. Of course, Switzerland may have much stronger and deeper reservists than Ireland, but they were able to immediately come up with assistance very little bureaucracy paperwork, and they immediately got to help us in Ireland. The experience was just simply much different to the government really weren't as proactive for as immediate as were here in Switzerland. The roots here what's around her a lot less strict as well There is a two meter rule here, but I haven't seen anybody wearing masks very much, which is kinda shocking for me because I know in Ireland the whole north of is people should be wearing masks. People definitely are observing social distance. One of my friends said to me that the two meter rule has actually brought Swiss people closer together so. That is so insightful to the Swiss society. It's more difficult thing. It's more difficult thing for Irish people or Italian people are Spanish. Two meters distance than it would be for this people or maybe the. Scandinavians. I can see by home people are wondering. Is the Irish pub culture ever going to come back the way it was with social distancing whereas in. Switzerland. Here for me like I'm I'm in the Alps I'm surrounded by fresh air and. Of of lovely space and it's been a wonderful place to be stranded, I don't even want to complain about it because although I I was stranded here for four months. It was the perfect place I felt very safe. I might have felt different if I was in the middle of Zurich or something or Geneva but I felt very safe. I'd in the Alps and it is lovely and peaceful and quiet, and of course, that's what people are coming here for anyway

Hells Angel: Sonny Barger

"On a typical weekend nights in Oakland. Nine hundred and sixty five. Sonny Barger had just received a call. One of his fellow hells angels was in trouble at a local bar. Sunny arrived to survey the scene at the four hundred club. He soon spotted the angel in his girlfriend being hassled by half a dozen guys from the local chrome shop. The ringleader had had just enough beers to be brave enough to trash. Talk the toughest guys in Oakland Sunny stocked over cool and collected to tell his brother that it was time to go and for good measure. He stuck twenty-five automatic in the mouth of the ringleader. Just to let him know what would happen if he didn't stop running his mouth. Shut him up sunny and the angel left but the Gulf remained doubled back inside to retrieve her through the window. Sunny spotted the ringleader. Giving her trouble he shook his head big mistake he'd already been warned once. Sunny stormed back in walked up to the guy and hits him on the side of the head with his twenty-five but the gun accidentally went off grazing. The man's skull sunny chuckled to himself. He'd been trying not to hurt the poor idiot but fate at clearly intervened so sunny grant this poor bleeding. Drunken mess bent him over the pool table and shot him again the lesson. Don't mess with a hells angel. Welcome to kingpins apar- Original I'm Alastair murden and I'm Kate Leonard. Every Friday. Gang the hell's angels this week. We'll be exploring his club's rise to national infamy alongside the counterculture movements of the nineteen sixties. Next week we'll see how drugs and crime changed the face of the club forever in Nineteen Sixty three twenty five year old. Sonny Bono was president of the Oakland. Chapter of the hells angels. This meant he sat at the top of the burgeoning empire of outlaw motorcycle clubs known for drinking fighting and dealing drugs. Many anti-establishment organizations like these actually rose to prominence after world. War Two military veterans. Who had trouble fitting back into the square world of the nineteen fifties needed somewhere to go and shoot the breeze? Hollywood saw the appeal to the Marlon Brando movie. The Wild One introduced audiences across America to the world of leather jacket wearing motorcycle. Gangs causing mayhem. Wherever they went. But in the summer of nineteen sixty three sunny bargar had a bigger concern establishing his Oakland Charter as the dominant. Hells Angel Club even more powerful than the Founding San Bernardino Chapter. He also wanted to unite with other outlaw motorcycle clubs around the State. Sure they spent a fair amount of time beating each other up and jockeying for territory but they could put their beef aside to unite against a common foe. The cops so sunny bargar had an idea that would eventually become a hells angels tradition the Labor Day. Weekend RUN OUTLAW. Motorcycle clubs from all over the state would unite in Porterville California a medium sized town halfway between Fresno and Bakersfield there was no Setai Tin Ary. Just a plan to drink smoke weed and get up to whatever. Mischief found them. Sunny Bargar led his Oakland. Hells angels into Porterville to rendezvous with four other leading clubs the stray Satan's the galloping goose's the Coleman sheriffs and the cavaliers in all there were about two hundred bikers invading a town of about nine thousand people. At first everything went according to plan with bikers from different clubs bonding over drugs and women then an Oakland Angel Named Charlie. Magoo was having a drink in a bar minding his own business when an old townie through a beer in his face as soon as Magoo leapt to his feet. The old townie realized he'd made a grave error. There was no way he could take this guy in a fight. The townie bumbled an apology but it was too little too late. Magoo punched him in the face. The old man stumbled so Magoo punched him a second time. Then a third. The old man collapsed on the floor. Knock out but instead of settling things the townie went home grabbed. A gun came back and pointed it at Magoo. This was his town. These angels needed to go Vista Magoo had backup a group of fellow. Angels grabbed townies gun and turned it back around on him. They all took turns beating him until he had to be sent to the hospital. Meanwhile sunny was presiding over a Bachan. All that had taken over the Porterville main drag motorcycles were racing each other down the street the bikers girlfriends and female hangers on. Were having wet. T shirt contests. Everyone was drunk high or both. The angels stopped any vehicles passing through town and forced open. Their car does if they were young women in the car. They attempted to pull them out so they could join the party whether they wanted to on not not. Everyone was thrilled namely the Porterville. Chief of police. He worried he was losing control of the situation so he called out to other counties for backup by nine thirty PM over two hundred and fifty cops rolled into downtown to stop the madness. Their first move was to set up a blockade hoping to direct the bikers. Down One road out of town once was set the chief got on the Bullhorn and announce the bike has had five minutes to clear out. Meanwhile fire trucks spreads soapy water down the main streets making it impossible to race they turn their hoses on bikers. Knocking them off their harleys. Local teens even got into the action climbing to the tops of buildings and throwing bricks down onto the street faced with an army of guns hoses and bricks. The bikers had no choice but to leave town. Sunny led his bikers to the parking lot of Sports Center. A few miles outside of town to assess the situation as they counted their ranks. They realized they were missing for members who had been knocked off their bikes and arrested. Some of the other clubs wanted to give up and peel out. They trusted that lost members to bail themselves out of jail and find their way home but sunny refused to leave without all of his Oakland. Hells Angels Brothers. So at two thirty. Am they turned their bikes around and headed? Back to PORTERVILLE SEVILLE COPS had lined up squad cars to block the bridge leading into town and they were prepared to wait as long as it took for the hells angels to leave town for Good. Sunny wasn't intimidated. By the show of force. He ordered his bikers to line up in a counter blockade across the other half of the bridge. If the cops wouldn't let people into town. Then the hells angels wouldn't let anyone leave either. It was a standoff. Eventually a highway patrol officer approached sunny to try and broker peace sunny told the officer he just wanted his men back and would gladly pay the twenty five dollars for their bail. The officer took them to the portable chief of police. But the chief didn't think twenty five dollars was enough his counter-offer fifty thousand dollars. Sunny exploded in anger. He was trying to play by the rules. And these cops were trying to take advantage of him. Sensing a confrontation. The highway patrol officer scrambled to get the chief to agree to a low a bail sunny and the chief agreed to fifty dollars. And the Hells Angels. Pass the hat to raise the money. It seemed like a fair resolution. Yet by the time sunny and the bikers finally left town. They found another row of cops waiting for them. Ready to pull over any angel. Whose bike wasn't up to code and as a group devoted to customizing their rides. This was damn near all of them. This was the last Straw for Sonny. They were done being stopped by the cops. He ordered his men to outrun the police and they did in just one night sonny. Berger proved himself the undisputed leader of the hells angels and the baddest of all the outlaw bikers in California.
