"Coast like me brought to you by Barbasol shaving cream Jews Barbasol shaving cream for thick lather and close comfortable shave close shave America close shave Barbasol Marc spears columnist for the undefeated NBA insiders well here at ESPN is set to join us here on game day mark manage with a heavy heart that I talk to you obviously with the things are transpiring in the world right now particularly in this country in light of what has transpired in Minneapolis with George Floyd's death your thoughts on what's going on in this country right now you know it's sad because of that I was talking to reporters in Canada yesterday and I'm glad that there are a lot of you know people that are not black that are finally paying attention to the police brutality that's been taking place with people of color and it is better late than never vote on like how long have we been screaming about how long we've been yelling about that how long have we my gas for help on this and so it it it's sad that it's taken this long from Seoul nightmarish for for the tension to come to this but I mean now we're here in the last couple nights you know they're beautiful things in protest and then there's been some horrible things I live in you know Oakland and you know a federal agent was shot and killed last month I mean it can't happen you know what I mean like it protest going in the wrong direction and looting it is your right and black communities like it okay so you build a target and now what about the black people or people that were working at the target how they lost their jobs there there was a a low income housing building on Walmart's finish in Minneapolis and bank dole out allows low income housing people that needed how do you eat now that's taken away from him so at I thank you dearly George said this in a story that I that I wrote like the focus needs to be put on the murder that these officers of dark and not focus on three and and things that are going wrong to protest like I'm Arnold the people can refocus and remember what the main target is to bring attention to police brutality and not getting the attention somewhere else to bring devastation tomorrow mark you mentioned your article that's up on the undefeated right now with your conversation with Devin George it's so telling and I hope people listening take time to go read it what was the biggest thing you learned from Devon to your conversation with him on his stance of where things are in the moment there are many one ambience and Minneapolis saying what happened M. B. believes he met you know George Flores in the end that never even been in that neighborhood he's been on that corner it really hit home with him thirty three little remember Linda Evans Georgia played I lied about twelve years in the NBA play with the Lakers won three championships play with Kobe and Shaq and he's actually had to put pamphlets on building that in on the Minneapolis basically showing a picture of it and he owns it or that his property with a picture yeah how you Kobe Bryant like Kobe Bryant and he said that it is building have been spared in part thanks because of the fact that he's put up so he's heartbroken confused that this is why this is still happening but then he's also looking at the other side where you know he didn't other people in Minneapolis I worked really really hard to bring these businesses to leave low income areas of these areas that will delight you know trying to recover from so now things that they've worked so hard to bring are being burned down or destroyed or damaged and you know jobs are lost in the process buildings are locked and you know these buildings may not come back the people who are struggling during the pandemic may not have a job for a while get a lot bigger after the fact that he wanted to bring up in terms of the destroying that businesses that in turn is destroying our own community in the process Marc spears joining us here of the undefeated columnist for the undefeated NBA insider and his story and conversation with Devin George former Laker warrior and Dallas maverick is up on the undefeated website right now and look Devon was very much a part of the community here in Los Angeles mark for a long time very involved obviously from Minneapolis who was always connected to that city one thousand throwed yeah yeah yeah yeah no question he was very very heavily involved when he was here I know he has young children and I think that this is something that is a tough conversation like I struggled with it yesterday I've got a six year old and a baby you know eighteen month old so you know it's different with him but a six year old who can watch the images on television and you struggle about letting them watch and having the conversation is that too young he has young children one of those conversations been like for him with his young children yeah yeah yeah three young boys of the thirteen eleven and six and you know it's not like he's poor you don't agree with the live you live in a bad area or anything like that we have to have that conversation with him on the conversation my dad would be if the conversation that people of color are having with their sons and daughters all over the country it is said that every time I get in my car and I have successful man another day and in trouble with the law I've never been arrested I had a bachelor's degree I have a master's degree great employment that I'm scared every time I get a car I got my masters from LSU and one trick that I know in my black community that I grew up with the work that we do we will make sure that our license plate we have where we went to college and I tell my friends he didn't give a college ticket on your license plate in the region as a whole different copiers fondue behind that perhaps they think that by seeing LSU alumnus Israeli state along with you know maybe this guy well you know more educated if it fell from a leave him alone I don't know it yet that's just perfect wishing on a star break by they had there been times countless times where I'm driving on the freeway there's a cop followed me and I just randomly get off at exit on the streets randomly make a right I'm just I don't know in a letter sent I got almost arrested in the sixth grade for playing basketball at a neighbor's yard she was in homes in the neighborhood like Albert I shot the ball kid going into Darden if you call the police to me and they threaten to take me to the downtown San Andreas it's great hello she asked thank so embodied in one after the other day and the number of trusted right now thank you all for I guess once in the kitchen and I had to tell him to go outside when the price about the bill of rights movement go read about the lynching museum in Alabama right for for any and it I have been much worse and for my ancestors in the room more war this is but with all that being said right it's going to take our white brothers and sisters okay I'm not good enough I think oftentimes late because of what I write again if you know you're going to cry may grow beyond the World Bank and played in the dollar well I'm glad people are finally looking out so although it may be late late when white people Hey this is wrong it resonates they're going to matter the voice of the matter is van Gundy Kyle Korver read it by half those voices matter so fight with us to get this over with well said Marc spears joining us here calling the city undefeated NBA insider yeah it's about just basic empathy respect and understanding and listening to be honest but you know and and it's an action to so well said well said mark I know we've got a couple of other things that we want to discuss with you so you know there's no real easy transition to something like this you know you you you and I do know that a lot of conversations over the years of a lot of things right and you know so that we can continue that for sure and but let let's switch to basketball here real quick was we only have a couple minutes here what are your thoughts on the potential return for the NBA and some of the four matic that have been laid out you know it always clean your fluid every day we hear something different you know and so I didn't want it I think it's best to be minimal David sixteen teams of fourteen teams get different part that's okay the last team to lead people to better the safer I call it your own and be a survivor once it gets knocked out of the playoffs I got to get off the island you will you'll have to go all the all the bill does do that but you will have to get out of here yeah I think the more isn't merrier but I do understand the finances are you gotta reach like seventy games to ensure that you get all your sponsorship money that she you know live up to what the people that are endorsing them being a product all you know what you're promoting so that's going to be to challenge it is it worth your money to not have those other teams will work the health risk of having others these teams to reach seventy games which you know that's a hard decision for item storage seems to me that that's all take every take it to the last bit if it starts at the beginning of August transaction related it could start and I will be waiting and waiting and waiting to get a healthier environment you may be hopefully for medical assistance by then whether it's a vaccine or something I can put on the floor I just think they're waiting as late as possible to try to give the healthiest environment possible but to me even with all these scenarios and I sixteen teams cut to the chase get to the playoffs with get the things done and over with sixteen teams cut to the chase I appreciate that but do you think from a fan experience not being able to go to these games having more teams as I on Williams and being able to contend and possibly partake in a play in tournament is better for the fan experience yeah but I'm better on more for their health experience right now young would you be attending as a media member I would love I would love to be there I mean I don't know if they're going to Georgia I'm waiting to hear I will lead to a ten billion so if we can do whatever they ask me to do to be a part of it all I would love to be a part of that history even if it means be American C. one two and a half months one of the fortunate journalist who used to be a part of that bottom I just want to help the environment and I'll stay from bar but I love the design of the postseason checked me and I think we'll get it opportunity from what it sounds like but that is quicker to MBA to get this over with the faster I'm not even opposed to the discount on the whole thing along and go until next season in January just starting out fresh locally with friends but what the case is we're going to Disney world and hopefully help the expansion of possibilities in basketball and at this point man I'm watching like Korean baseball was very skating competition of the day yeah I was delighted to court all.

"America close shave Barbasol so obviously as all sports are in flux and trying to figure out what's going on Katie college sports is no different and we were we're gonna talk to Vince tirade V. AGF Movil here who joins us on game day on ESPN radio events thank you so much for taking the time we appreciate it hope everyone is safe and sound in your neck of the woods we'll start here with all the different schools it seems like across the country trying to figure out when to come back what is or what have the conversations been like amongst the ACC schools as far as when they come back we know you guys have decided on a date but what if the collective conversations been like within the conference well I think the first thing the you know the collective conversations have been about sharing information and we certainly you know got out early but I would tell you that you know we shared our plan along the way with the other he needs from the conference we you know we sent out one of our final drafts you know probably I don't know maybe ten days ago and then just refined it over the last week but you know each school's gonna you know it's it's different because it's the schools going to have their own situation to work through their own circumstances whether be on campus with their campus leadership or maybe even inside their own state so you know I I think in Georgia Georgia tech and Georgia both you know kind of managed by a board of regents down there that will dictate probably when it's time to go bad in our situation our our campus leadership is moving towards having students back on campus in the fall and there's certainly been open to our plan because we work closely with the manor health care officials to to put it together but you know I I talked to John Kerr yesterday wait for us to talk to Dan rather cold which you know Clemson and others Blake James we have by and we we talked a lot about just sharing what we're doing it each school and then hopefully we you know because there's no competition in this part it's cleverly thence June eighth is the date that you guys at Laval have circled football players men's basketball players and women's basketball players will be able to partake in voluntary workouts starting on June eighth what gave you the confidence to resume on that date yeah I think we're you know we're certainly watching all the data nationally and and then certainly in Kentucky were were having you know it's a low risk state if you will today that could change obviously but and inside the city the numbers have been extremely low but also the numbers inside the age of the athletes and help the athletes is extremely low and so we know that we got to think about their safety but also the staff you know safety not not I've not everyone of us are are twenty five Bucks you know I mean there you got a a different demographic that care for these student athletes on our campus but you know I think just working with our campus facilities and plant folks working with we're fortunate to have you about health and a great research and innovation team that's been producing test frankly for others and because we have enough knowledge on campus I think we moved along the only one we have the ability to get the test on campus and the minister of those and to that we were prepared both from a band with a okay people in the facility said the deep clean and keep the facilities and good order and we felt like the the best practices we have pulled from many we're certainly watching professional leagues as well as not just come up with their own planet kind of mixing what we saw with the best ideas too and probably you know more conservative ideas to think about how to move forward and everyone got comfortable Vince tirade the ADA billable joining us here on game day on ESPN radio since we know that football drives a lot of the revenue when it comes to the athletic departments and obviously fan revenue is a big part of that as well has there been any discussions with your particular programs or amongst the ACC programs about the potential of fans inside the stadiums and arenas and so on and so forth yeah we've shared some but it hasn't good to be honest Georgia had been the highest priority yet it will be but there's you know there's just not enough knowledge yet of when we will start and so it though while you know I hate to say that may be a little premature while we're doing this our focus has been on this our focus is been on student athletes return to campus and taking care of their mental and physical well being now and frankly worry about the fans in that process later we you know we've already accounted for a good portion of what could happen in our budget so we went through that process first then the return to campus in the next phase which we've all kind of talking about the high level again we share a lot with you're so many of the schools in the conference in Jack's for breaking down a name Dan radical which claims that we've talked about it but we've not moved forward yet on a plan at a conference level and then we just we have a few concepts were were running out right now it's at the local since you mentioned having proper testing for our student athletes and personal it'll be on campus what is the return for athletes look like when they do come back on campus starting June eighth yes hello I mean they'll be back on campus before that Katie actually will have some started start coming back next week around may twenty seventh and they'll trickle in through you know June first and you know we'll we'll test them I think it's June third is the testing date and then you know as we go we'll be doing the physicals but they're going to have some time where there there there were getting you know them back on campus we kind of wanted an eight days will quarantine period you know based upon the advice of medical professionals before we you know really testament gan and then we're off to running and from there it's going to be symptomatic testing it's not that we're going to have testing every week or multiple times a week at that point just based upon the data that we're seeing our research and infections these feel that this is not a high risk category that we're talking about with the student athletes but we'll still do symptoms screening we have technology for that and then I was we have contact racing technology the world will have ready as well but as far as testing goes they are gonna get to run that it no summer talking about not testing at all came into with the FTC are one of the conferences as they said they made a start off right away which is symptomatic you know issues before they test and I think we're probably going a little bit further than that mainly because we have the luxury of the testing and and the resources on campus Vince Tyra a little lady with this year on game day on ESPN radio with Georgia Donna and Katie George once the kids get back on campus events what is your expectation as far as playing out the schedule and what would that schedule look like even as far as preparation for a twenty twenty four season yeah well I think you know we're we'll have a window of time here if if things play out where we you know kick with NC state the first week of September that would back us up to where you know six weeks prior would put us right at the your June twenty second twenty third day to to going to practice our view is that you know they have this opportunity for voluntary workouts and I think the medical side of what is important is the the physical side of getting back into routine being used to you know used to being back on campus your summer school three session three starts July eighth so there are you know we may get them and back in that routine as well and then you know hopefully we get some signal you know in the early July time frame as to what what it looks like at that point I I frankly don't have a lot of expectation will be talking about the football schedule kicking in the next two to three weeks but I don't have a crystal ball on that I think people are are low we're learning a lot week by week as to what's going on and what we need to do and but in parallel you know we're we're trying to get the our student athletes as prepared as they can to get him back into a routine of being one of student obviously certainly be an athlete then we we greatly appreciate your insight before we let you go because no like Notre Dame South Carolina UNC NC state three being within the ACC have mentioned potentially starting the semester of school for students on campus earlier than normal to avoid sending them and having them on campus through December month where flu season spikes back up is that something that president nearly been the pony it is considering at level yes and you know Katie you were you were one of our athletes so you know this we start earlier anyways our calendars is a week ahead of most every other school because of the good old Kentucky Derby so because we let out early in April we also let out early in December we usually are our finals are weak ahead of most in the conference so for us it really only means a shift of the week and it's definitely being reviewed hasn't been finalized but if it's frankly makes a lot of sense and it's probably easier for us to pull out the most that you know sending them back home for potentially you know the holidays and then bringing him back on campus students as much as student athletes when they go all over the country and then come back to our camp to bring back whatever whatever they bring back for one week you know it doesn't seem like a great talk to me so I really do appreciate all the the thinking behind that with all the the school ministers then sorry eighty eight little joining us here on game day on ESPN radio events thank you so much for the time stay safe and hopefully we'll catch up again soon thanks fence very good thanks Gary thanks George there's been staring AT Louisville coming up next what format should the NBA use if they return to a campus environment that's next but first it's time for sports center Yanni has been released George Patrick Mahomes who played quarterback for the red raiders from twenty fourteen to twenty sixteen was the commencement speaker for Saturday's virtual ceremony the chiefs quarterback told the Texas tech graduates whatever plans lined front of you I have no doubt that you will go out there and show the world what it means to come from Lubbock Texas go.

"American original for over a hundred years closure of America close shave Barbasol the end game will we see an increase in minority head coaching and jumped up six spots you shouldn't have to say to yourself I want to make a move in the draft I had a brother over there well it's certainly going to be something that's discussed today the NFL's virtual beating and it's something that's been discussed a lot over the last few days when the memo leaked out over the weekend tensely incentivizing teams to hire minority candidates for head coaching jobs or front office jobs by upping their draft status in the third round and then the news that perhaps today it'll be modified the Rooney rule to just potentially make sure you interview more than one candidate right for all of these jobs so let's bring in someone who is obviously very interested in all of this and someone who has a keen eye and potentially having one of the situations and that's our own Lewis Reddick who does a great job for us as our NFL front office insider Louis thanks for being with us this morning obviously you have been asked a lot of questions about this over the last few days and we talked to Dominique Foxworth yesterday and his position sort of morph during the day for lack of a better term about the incentive program basically from saying I I don't agree with it and then he thought well a lot of people that I don't agree with agreeing with me so maybe I need to rethink my position on this where are you on all of this right now yeah traded it hasn't really changed for me listen I think when you're a minority or not if you grow up in order to handle around sports do you have any kind of competitive make up to you you do not want anyone stacking the deck in your favor in order for you to this is safe for lack of a better term when money comes the competition right so when you're competing for a head coaching job when you're competing for general manager job you competing for office quarter quarterback coach job or any of the other things that right now or will be taken up for discussion you don't want any favors you know with the deck stacked in your favor you just want equal level playing field and you don't want anyone you know instituting any kind of rules which could then turn if you work to get the job undermine your your credibility and your ability to lead once you got into that position and the role that the work rather the proposal as it was initially stated as far as you have the angel to move up as a team in the third round and increase your draft position based on whether or not you are a minority would do all those things that would undermine your credibility as a as a coach and or the general manager when you walk into the building because naturally people inclination would be to look at you and go I doubt that you got this job based on what your merits are what your competency if you got it based on the new initiatives and that's something that I know I personally would want I would assume that Dominic wouldn't one or anyone else would want the minority to get a job in that matter I mean all the people are looking for an opportunity to compete in port to be truly a meritocracy now that may be pie in the sky and wishful thinking and I'm trust me I'm not someone who's the even has said the ground right in the Stanford team that everything was equal in today's society because it's not we all know that but I think that's ideally what you're striving for I obviously had other ideas as far as how to get people out of their comfort zone and do things that maybe they weren't accustomed to doing the things that made them uncomfortable that's far as hiring practices are concerned I didn't think that this is the way to go with so Louis I guess I would I would have to ask if if this went into play if they were given better draft picks for GM coach and door coordinator and you certainly have been talked about for GM jobs if you were asked to interview for a GM job in this rules in place would you go to the interview yeah it's still going to the end of your life I mean look at I think I've also stated the fact that you know when I went interview for the giants job involved with Mr Marin dissertation Ernie Accorsi but I felt as though that that that was a true organic interview because of the questions all being asked how long it took to my goodbye along with them after the interview ended that day in my dialogue with them since that day so it's not a matter of whether or not I thought the interview in my personal experience in that particular situation was not authentic and I wouldn't you know in certain situations depending on the team's turn down interviews in the future but I just would not want it to be a situation where I would then or and I believe I speak for many people don't have to answer questions about well do you think if you really are this topic on your Meredith on your property what do you think you know what to what degree do you think that you got this job because of the new edition of the part of the place I wouldn't want to answer those questions because you can I guarantee it Michael questions would come fast and furious it would be something that we can constantly hanging over your head and I don't think that's the way you want it to be and quite honestly I don't think that the kind of question you would want to answer as an owner either or the peace president or any other kind of high ranking executives but it's something to do with the hiring process I don't really think you want that I don't want you want people they're looking at you as the owner going the only reason you did that is because it doesn't benefit you some other way ha you didn't really want to do if you really want to start going down that road as an owner and they're like as I said as someone who was hired no you wouldn't it doesn't mean that people automatically now to go well you know what I'm not going to go in and do for the nation now because look at this wall nope we're just talking about we we don't even really need to get there I don't I don't see why we have to institute this kind of thing as far as the owners are concerned if in fact you really are someone who is concerned with the disparity between minority and non minority hiring if you really care about it and why would you even think going through this virtual meeting today don't we don't why would you even think we need yourself and you're the one who's controlling the higher in your voting on it why would you need to even put this in the in the play if you look at that was something that you felt as though you correct naturally organically because you didn't have any preconceived biases when you go on interviews you should automatically to say you we don't need this we don't do this at all but if you need it if you're saying you need that rule in place in order to change your own behavior then we really have a problem talking to Louis Riddick our ESPN NFL analyst Lewis eight to that extent couldn't the same of been said about the Rooney rule at that the time of its institution yeah you know what I mean I guess you could refute you won't be enough you weren't being incentivized to actually carry through hire people that my can you were then I mean it was actually it was it was making you interview people who are minorities and give them and give them more exposure but what really incentivizing you to say Hey look somehow some way this benefits your business if you are there's there's the intangible benefits you actually carrying through that takes it a step further that takes it into the realm of well well wait a minute this really is not an organic hiring in the true sense this isn't really a level point you're you're stacking the deck in your favor as an owner if you carry carry through with that that's where I think the conversation changes that's where they make people step back and go look wait a minute this this is this is something that is fundamentally wrong I mean the Rooney rule in and of itself is one of those situations where you know you're you're disappointed that we have to get to this point work physical warm place that mandate that you interview and actually give minority candidate from exposure to this process I mean that that in and of itself something that it is shocking that in twenty twenty we have to have that as well but they take it a step further and say okay here you know what that's not good enough for you how about this how bout you can improve your draft stock in nursing will defend the belt and it will benefit you if you actually follow through with me that's ridiculous that's ridiculous that we're really having to have that discussion in any way shape or form right now I I I just it's a sad state of affairs if we're actually having to go through with something like that hello yeah you could say it any other way yeah it feels like we are I mean because they're having this discussion so then the question becomes how do we address that I think that's what everyone struggling with right now yeah absolutely unbelievable insight Lewis we really appreciate your time you spoken really eloquently on this for the past couple of days so thanks for excellence you minutes yeah and again with Dominique Foxworth he didn't say all I love the rule now yes I said I don't like this rule blocked it with with no other real rule outside with the Rooney rule which clearly isn't working in place is it better to get some minority some jobs even if it's this way just to have them have jobs and go from there super interesting from Lewis's perspective too we mentioned the role that being an athlete being around sports whole life there of the I did almost cheapens the accomplishment for him which is something that he wants to win understandably because it's the way your wired a lot in sports and in other ways but most people look to sports is this truer meritocracy had to say I want to go out here and earn this of my own merit because I believe I have because the way I have conducted myself well that's what we all want anything right just let me compete on my right now it's out I'm willing to put my best up against somebody give me a level playing field fortunately it's been anything but a level playing field without question you was also an unlevel playing field trying to compete with Michael Jordan's bulls in the nineties and when we come back we'll do our superlatives on this Tuesday as a tribute to.

"Is now better than ever America try the new old trip can't today with protective cap and a rust proof aluminum bottom close shave America close shave Barbasol can I just tell you about some due to this radio thing and and we hear the Britney spears song and we're playing that and then all of a sudden the guys were playing the sports center song as an alternative to it this did not come out in nineteen ninety eight I don't think I think you're right so all right so we we come into this segment hearing a lot of different voices especially that of Blake Snell talking about the eyebrow raising comments that snail bait this week on twitch Katie saying it affected is not want to risk his life for returning to work during the covert nineteen pandemic for pennies on the dollar and then asked to clarify his comments in an interview with the athletics nailed doubled down saying I'm concerned just like everybody else about the virus and I want to make sure me and my peers are taken care of we want to play under circumstances that we agreed upon as a group I will play if I get fifty percent we played fifty percent of the season but to accept making less than that and with more risks for our health it's not fair to the players to Katie you hear that and you think well just maybe keep that to yourself or say that to your wife or talk about it at the dinner table but maybe not on twitch I don't know maybe you know what he thought this is my platform these are my beliefs I'm gonna get it out there I just think that it sets a bad tone and I don't think a lot of his fellow players in the MLB even if they think that we're not going to come out and say it as brash as he did I don't know it just it just it rubs me the wrong way hearing and re reading his comments I don't know about you Kevin so I I I hear the first one and I and I've got an opinion on that and then I hear him go back to the athletic and double down I'm thinking who the hell is Blake Snell's agent why is he not calling him and saying Hey bro she different tone yes is right I mean the reality of America right now is we are near record unemployment levels businesses have closed their doors for good peoples lives are being impacted and affected and in some cases were ruined and you're complaining that you may not make a full seven point six bill you may have to settle for three point eight bill by the way smell is guaranteed to make forty million dollars over the next three years guaranteed so maybe about taking into account the company's agent gets I still don't think that matters right or or I feel I forgot taxes to select like the tone deafness of those comments which isn't to take away from what he's saying that we are potentially risking our lives of course that's a reality but to be making about the cut that you're going to be making on money what we're not talking about fourteen seventy five an hour no we're not what we're talking about three hundred fifty thousand dollars a stork I mean it is it's the definition of tone deafness not wise and I think that his comments were quite ignorant because I don't think he understands what he's saying and had the way it affects the people listening to those comments right because a lot of his fans are not making that kind of money to your point some of his fans probably have filed for unemployment and are dealing with really really hard new realities that nobody ever saw coming I agree with you as agent should I got on the phone or as PR manager and said please stop you have no idea the effects or the ramifications of these comments are going to happen and rightfully so I mean I think you should get backlash for for making these kind of stuff I don't see stupid comments because if that's what you believe is great but what about obligation Kevin I think Taylor Twellman maybe brought this point up a couple weeks ago when lebron first came out and said I don't want to play games if there are not gonna be fans in the seats and now lebron has since backtracked on that and said you know what if we can play I'm going to play I'd love to see what happens when the MLB I hope they get off the ground and running they start their season you know start July like they're proposing right now I'm is Blake Snell gonna be and his uniform ready to roll when it when that happens or is he can actually sit out because he feels so strongly that he has to talk about this on twitch and other platforms I'd be curious to see when push comes to shove if the MLB says Hey we've got a system in place that can keep you guys safe if you follow strict guidelines we can play what happens just as the obligation of this is your job you signed up to play baseball if if the MLB comes to you and says we've got a way to play are you not going to play like the NBA goes to lebron's as yet there's no fans I'm sorry that's the reality but we've got a protocol in place to keep you safe to keep your health in tact but you can play like what happens Kevin with their obligation to the duty of their job like this is what you do for a living so at some point obligation I think has to kick in if the environment is safe I understand risking their lives if they don't feel comfortable with that that's one thing if the ramifications and the the scenario was not safe but if it is I think you play I think you have to play because that's your obligation and that's been a lot of the conversation like the I mean you know the players union Major League Baseball Players Association is notoriously one of if not the strongest union in America and so does this become as everyone's been saying I it's almost become cliche I don't even like to use the phrase but it's true disappear come billionaires fighting millionaires about whether or not you want to get on the field of play by the way full transparency according to what owners have said they will reportedly lose almost six hundred fifty thousand dollars per game without fans being in stadiums if proposals go forward and we actually play games in stadiums without fans and they alleged that if the season is canceled altogether the owners could lose nearly four billion dollars so that's what they're math that's what they're putting out there and saying this is the case we've been talking a lot about Blake Snell what we hear from Snell himself his word as he put that out there on twitch earlier this week probably not understand so I probably played for local again what's wrong with you bro money should not be a thing bro I'm risking my life what do you mean this should not be it a hundred percent thank I actually have the money on Sunday beginning paid in half of what I'm getting paid the season's coming up on top of the thirty three percent cut of the half the story there so I'm really getting like twenty five percent on top of that is keen and taxed so I'm not home which are actually making the play you know like and on top of that so all the money's gone they were still alive the words Blake Snell which you don't so Katie pay me what we agreed upon what guess what that's not the reality anymore that's not the reality for anyone anymore exactly right like you know we made a deal guess what things have changed okay I mean this deal was signed before anyone knew what the hell coronavirus was case that that deal was based on ticket prices the gate that owners would make employers would make off of that and local TV contracts and national TV contracts and merchandise sales etcetera etcetera the game has changed a little bit Blake okay we're not where we were six months ago we're not rewriting the collective bargaining agreement for good we're not taking away all the progress that players have made in in the past forty years but things have changed people are taking hair cuts all over the place in this country are not getting scalped altogether I forgive me for not being sympathetic to your situation right now I think he also has tunnel vision of like right now the the here and now of the situation what if you took a step back Kevin and looked at the trajectory for the next few years I mean what does it look like for the M. L. B. if they don't play season this year because of the crown of ours and and what was the figure forty billion it is four billion or billion yep four billion four billion is what they stand to lose do you think that Blake Snell is going to get his full salary next year if they lose four billion dollars this year do you think any I mean they're gonna have to take pay cuts potentially for multiple years moving forward based on the ramifications of not having a Caesar not making that full dollar amount that they're talking about I I just don't think that people who make comments like this understand the bigger picture of what's happening and what was like supposed to make for the next couple years forty forty million seven million this year forty million I don't see that happening if they're not you bring in the revenue that they're used to year in and year out you know if you want me to understand anything about where he's coming from it's that people's own personal situations are obviously the most personal thing to them yeah the whole thing so he's looking at it he's he's he's banking on the fact I'm going to be making this over the next few years under the primary in years of my life not not not my career my life but what you what you fail to understand is that bodies are being stacked in trucks that have been converted to coolers on the streets of cities in America ninety thousand people have died from this businesses are shutting their doors forever people are losing everything and you're complaining about your situation which in the grand scheme of things is nothing it's nothing yeah okay you're gonna you're gonna make three million dollars less this year I I just it's a tough one for me to take and it doesn't address the fact that he agreed to a deal a deal was made and this is what he thought he was gonna get coming into it but to not recognize what's gone on in this country in this way in the world and to complain about it on a platform like social media where you know what's going to make the rounds that to me is the hardest part for me to wrap my head around absolutely that's straight talk wireless no contract no compromise coming up after that who is the greatest movie villain of all time we start our movie villain draft that's next alongside Kevin Connors I'm Katie George the best week ever on ESPN radio and ESPN app your sports.

"To you by Barbasol Barbasol is now better than ever try the new culture grip camphor Barbasol now quick to the protective cap and rust proof aluminum bottle your Erica rust proof because you ads barber so cancel rusty that is true yes even with Barbasol don't don't you don't arrest you can't go one said as well which is reporting some NBA news get this some facilities in the NBA will be re opened on may first flights beginning Friday for states and municipalities that are listening to stay home restrictions amid the corona virus pandemic no players will be able to get the season ember I know players to return to their facilities in such states as Georgia for voluntary workouts as early as next week now in the NFL you saw coach bill check talking about this not drafting a quarterback wasn't by design the patriots notably pass by Jordan love with the twenty third pick instead trading into the Chargers for second and third rounder the decision to not take a quarterback makes it look like Jarrett Stidham who is Brady's backup is a new starter in New England for now for narrow now I guess we'll see but we will talk Jordan love later on I really don't want to because I'm having fun I don't think the baiting with you I know we argue that that's not going to argue this Jordan love happy is the question yeah rich and I have professional debaters here on the show yeah casino and rich on ESPN radio the ESPN app as exempt eighty again from ESPN's now or never and the casino and rich show on SiriusXM wrapping this up right now the NFL draft takeaways you know by the way the quarterback on the Packers A. rod and J. lo A. rod and J. I love it yeah I see that I've seen that meme several several times three quarterbacks Green Bay a rot in jail so we talked about how pleasantly surprised we were with the draft but I also think we had low expectations and we would have taken anything yeah braille it was great but I don't I don't see anything a peek into people's personal lives who is the county that you want to set it seems people's homes and how they live their way more interesting than a lot of B. roll of ESPN and NFL network pending to the fans in the crowd got us thinking regions thinking and all these families can get brand new couches you know me you know that was not it was a lot of people and there's a lot of the people of the really do looking cat had you know it is a lot of like whack cabinets in kitchens that are gonna get redone for mom did you see the card packed instead this is a big deal there was guys were drafted parents and they were just shy in the era of the notice well that's how they make big boys genetics but you know it was like wow this guy needs his own caps that's what I was doing Angela in Brooklyn what's up chance your takeaways hi John how are you what's up we're good and we're just having fun today it no I just wanted to say I'm I I think that the virtual drafted it transited through the NFL they were able to involve a couple dozen more off prospects than they would've I think and and so I think it's fantastic yeah I'll be honest I wonder how they're going to move forward with this meaning let's hope that was the first and only virtual draft by necessity but what do they keep from to be honest maybe they do have cameras in the homes of the GM's and owners and stuff and the players are live there I don't know that seeing a bunch of GM's and owners and and management sitting at tables in an arena yeah well you know I was our first call in thing who said it was cool to see the coaches and owners humanize the low pay with their kids and their families it is also cool to see Jerry Jones inside the starship enterprise whoever he was the most virtual guy in the virtual draft he was a he was drafted from the year three thousand Jerry Jones if he was younger he would be one of the people that move to Mars well I think it was his yacht was it I think it was I think he was in his yacht everything rivers there into Margaritaville is back yeah you got to see all that cool stuff and it made it more interesting and more fun now let's talk about the girlfriends and like it's an awkward scenario so let's just say this is all speculation is not to be malicious assault of just pure observation and we're trying to have fun here okay because it's an awkward scenario we we were all college kids at one point and we all thought that the relationships we were and we're gonna last forever but most of the time it doesn't highs high school both ways right you know it really does it goes both ways what did you say you and your high school girlfriend gonna last sorry so you see them celebrating the the women the girlfriends here houses their boyfriends that are being drafted and you have to think well those days might be numbered you don't hopefully not and maybe not there's always those stories you hear about how they stuck it out and you Pat Mahomes is been with with his girlfriend now for a long time there's always those great stories well you know it is it's it's yeah you know she like me for who I was before I got drafted in in our own she's my best friend and and you know I will say I think it's fifty fifty meaning a lot of these young superstar athletes find a good woman they know they can trust survey key so they they they realize that the the best writer Diana I can't imagine being with anybody else but but there's other guys that say man I'm gonna be in the NFL I'm gonna have fun well I'm a young player in the National Football League wins how could you not understand no and and I think it is fifty fifty of it right you know not to sound malicious like you said but I do think half the girlfriends are going to be why the soon and half of those girlfriends are going to be gone soon I said I'd say it's like seventy thirty you're just making up I'm sorry that some research okay seventy thirty thirty percent last seventy percent move on just and not because I'm a big time NFL stars as life changes drastically and you know it takes a toll on that relationship it makes you think back to like member Russell Wilson what is what is your young college hair cut and he's there with his with his girlfriend the blonde girl who is Sierra because Russell Wilson was some sort of playboy is is that my life changed for him he didn't have options for Sierra when he was that guy he had a lot of college options yeah but you know he did have Sierra options let's put it that way and we all remember that you remember like how happy is girlfriend one scorers yeah people sort of you know poke fun at her because you kind of thought maybe her days were numbered now we saw a lot of random things during this trip that got us thinking what is the one who stood out right okay are you gonna never attended this too that we're trying to decide you know at first I didn't even realize why it was viral but this I say a Wilson cat you know he gets drafted and look I understand that everyone in that room is happy for him yes I do right that in my opinion and I say this Kylie although his girlfriend is his world this is really a family moment thank you for it because he just changed his family for the rest of his life for you because it's bad when the girlfriends in the Christmas picture because I feel like you are no I'm the guy that wouldn't it's my brother's like random new girlfriend in the Christmas picture gotcha right like there's no time invested there does she really belong in that picture so I say you will see distracted and he's one of those emotional guys is one of those emotional moments where he puts his hand over his face he starts to tear up and then you know rightfully so I get is his girlfriend the closest person to him she comes to console him but she really hands up the moment it takes up a lot of camera finally is in the whole frame rate now sits on his lap and she sort of like jumps right in front of it the moment in the camera in in you could say that maybe it was just her natural instinct but I'll tell you what his his mama was not having it all his mom took her forcibly removed her from him it was so off she said I don't even notice it again but my wife even said this my wife goes I get it as a mom she goes your boy your baby your baby your baby and he's still young young boys started life in the first round of the NFL draft is going to be on the Tennessee Titans who for all we know this could be a lifetime girlfriend or this could be some newer grown as life no matter what it has to be seen to be seen so you know it's gonna be there forever and was there always and forever mom mama in the family and you know who gets there first seeing presidents right there for that camera moment mom absolutely so she forcibly removes the girlfriend now the other one has the other girlfriend miss step mishap was CD lamb who found his way on to the Dallas Cowboys who may score forty points again this year they just gotta hope they don't give up forty one yeah and that you saw a lot of the cowboy nation Michael Irving they were smiling ear to ear just the whole looks of him he seems like he would be the pick for the cowboys there are some guys that seem very happy where they ended up yet in this guys that seem like they do in the generic like I'm just happy to have your life yeah I've my brother's a big Broncos fan and he said he saw a piece on Judy and Judy doesn't necessarily seem still to be in Denver maybe that's his personality but you get a vibe of the players and is a city lamb I think that's a good fit yeah good grief it Jerry Jones with the pick also to block the eagles all from getting of a possible superstar wide receiver the clippers talk about is not C. Laim get drafted it's not CD lemon Jerry Jones probably talking for the first time it's C. lives girlfriend grabbing his iPhone and he looks at her press the back like you know what are you doing now and then you figure yourself goes viral picks up like wild fires all over Twitter and that's the you know the social media world we live in right now so you know it got us thinking all sorts of things like yeah you look even if he's a loyal man let's assume that a yes right we have no reason to think he's not in even if she's not is a college guy I'm fine who knows how serious his relationship is I don't know you have to imagine that when a moment is that big yeah okay that big everyone he's come across in his lifetime from childhood friends the girls he's dated along the way have to put all that aside to take a moment to congratulate yes this man and I in my opinion I think those are his private moments and can only cause fights when you know Becky's hit a mother whose Becky and Becky is a second grade school mate you know and she just congratulating him or someone that wants it or or is Becky with the good hair I don't know yeah you don't know it I looked the point is I think I can understand why he was like not not right now look this is the draftsman we're trying to have fun if you're trying to be looking at my phone and if you look at the table is that multiple phones everywhere so he probably had like his phone like a draft phone that knows how it works I imagine that's probably how it works they probably gave him a draft phone well the right so that when the phone call comes in there was no confusion not to get off tangent but there was a story I'll try to find it later if he got one of the guys got drafted in the first round or second round there was a guy who denied a call because you know your instinct is to deny a call you don't recognize yeah he did not have a call coming in from Wisconsin there is like what I don't know what it is still in there he panicked.

Falcons vs. Jets Preseason Tonight

"Bit, tonight it's the falcons and the jets going head head course the. Falcons you've heard you've heard by Julio Jones, story? Right I, mean he caused me to retire from fantasy football last. Year you, know he caught some. Balls got some, yardage didn't really. Score it was my first pick in So, I kind of. Retired from from fantasy this year I gotta take I'm taking. A year, off maybe I'll come out of retirement later you know. Make, a big big presentation here around the radio station anyway we'll see if he. Can start finding the end zone a little bit more I know that. Something he and the falcons wanna do and Matt, Ryan we'll see if he can return. To MVP, form but what, a tough, division they, have I. Mean seriously the Panthers the saints the bucks it's tough although they're catching a bit, of, a break right now because the buccaneers I again listen they've. Been underwhelming the past couple of years to get Jameis Winston being bencher suspended for. Three games, so they don't have to deal with that but yeah I think I think the, falcons got to be right there toe-to-toe with the. Saints the rejuvenated saints from what they, did last year nobody expected that nobody expected, the saints a. Good defense and a good running game and they did and they were one like phantom missed tackle from from doing something special last year so that that's going to. Be a tough to visit taking on the jets Sam Sam darnold you don't you kind of get the feeling that Sam, darnold is going to be the starter on opening. Night against the lions on Monday night, football we talked with Gordon Damer from ESPN, New York ninety, eight seven earlier in the program about this guy's progressing very well you got teddy Bridgewater out there who may or may not be trade bait at some point, but Yeah don't forget now Josh mccown Josh. Conrad Sam, Brittany and Puerto Mike Wells discussed on Tolbert and Lund

"I am alongside ESPN culture Puerto Mike wells and we're talking about someone, who made some, history, still riding the. High right now a professional golfer Brittany succumb fresh off her appearance of the barbasol championship did, not make the cut but, made some serious. History today, finishing out her second round. An impressive performance. So Brittany tell me about this. Experience you sit here it's not just any golf tournament you're you're in this one competing. On the PGA tour the sixth woman to do it? What, were the emotions going through these last few. Days yeah thank you guys so much for having me I literally still aren't cloud dying and just to be inside the. Ropes that, the guys is. Like the coolest. Feeling ever I mean they're so good they're so talented it was just an honor. To get, the invite the play in a men's event. Then obviously I was hoping for a little better scoring but, today, I had five Birdies an eagle today was really great. And obviously to finish out my few days I finished. On a pretty big high Clearly the goal was to, make make the cut that didn't happen but how much would, you, like to, build off this and, potentially do it again get out there on the PGA tour for a second time man you know never say never so, but I'm not sure if I will You, know I still enjoying it but, in the future I mean I, thought I was going to be so nervous I didn't know. How to, be able to handle it and I really learned. A lot about myself and my Dame being inside the ropes with the guys. Nagas at different deal and just going into, the major the. British Open in two weeks just learning how to, control my nerves and and all that you know I think this week has really helped my game I can't wait to see how the rest of. The year pans out Britney when you're when you're facing something like this it's so huge I'm sure nerves become a big? Part, of it, and it's always nice to be able to. Lean on a hall of Famer for some advice you had one of those. On deck, reached out to can you feel sit on. Who that was and what they're. Able to, tell you to prepare yourself going into this. Tournament, yeah you know I finally got around to calling Sorenstam's stone, I give me her number to call more about the mental part of it I, mean golf is what I do for a living I finished, off, a playoff, actually last week style, back game is really good right now You know just calling her, on the night before my first, round your I just was trying, to get some more advice obviously there's a lot of media. There was, gonna be a lot of fans out in China. How you block out the noise she said it perfectly she was like you. Know this is obviously a few tweaks but, just more in. The future like learning how to handle these situations, it'll make my future situations a little bit easier and I totally think she was right you know the guys on PJ first of all we're stupor. Welcoming even on the first he Conrad Sam made me feel so comfortable so right away I felt like I was at? Home, in a, good place and that help with the nerves. But just in the future I think this this week will really help me. For that, if you had to take away one thing. From from being down there and. Playing Kentucky, what was the biggest takeaway for you personally Yeah and there's so many things I mean just mental. Part of it I think if you in You know I say I wanted to make the cut but just. You know I went in with a good attitude and I had a great time the whole time. That was one of my. Biggest, things that, just may be influencing child, here in the United States so many autographs for kids hopefully you know one of them one day that was. The reason why they want to be a professional golfer now maybe so. Be sending, autograph for them so just. Seeing all, the kids and all the fans that came out I mean that was pretty cool Britain you mentioned you know being that inspiration to young girls out..

"Can't be i think more moreover in the nba draft you see a lot of big is getting getting grabbed do you do you see it going back to the big band the more dominant guy in the center only if you can play a lot of that a lot of big big guys in the world today a lot of them can't play a lot of you know we have to baby step out of the center sometime and play a guard a little bit on defense but they have the ability they don't have a jill jill cream had so therefore you don't have to play like russell you don't have those type of players so therefore you can't use them in the can't use them anymore because now big men go outside and shoot three point shots and you gotta go out and play defense it just a matter that the athlete today i think overall has gotten a lot better and what at what they're doing and what they're doing look at golden state they're doing extremely well oscar robertson talking about the oncourt achievements of today's athletes the big ole also commending the off court activism of today's nba players although the hall of famer did wonder aloud why more white athletes aren't speaking out as well robertson on hand for the lifetime achievement award received from charles barkley and kareem abduljabbar whom he referenced in that piece there at the nba awards robertson of course the career leader in triple doubles i player to average a triple double for the season is anti trust case against the nba also ushered in free agency for players so he's talking contracts as well best coach this season guy wanna being sacked that's next sportscenter allnight continues it's espn radio ben simmons was named rookie of the year in the nba did he not spend a year in the nba last year sportscenter allnight what's like yeah a lot just think about puppies or whatever scalpel surgery nobrainer anesthesia barbasol nobrainer finally making razors to go along with america's favorite shaving cream try barbasol ultra six plus razor with six ultra thin blades for a close comfortable shave save now at barbasol.
