I found in reading the paper that i didn't have the word for relatively simple scientific terms lia- fossil or even dinosaur and i found that very discouraging that something that's should be so simple as to write about the scientific discovery so difficult to do so i had to come up with my own way of trying to translate. Those scientific terms and coming up with words is not a simple as it sounds. What for instance is a dinosaur. The word is commonly used well understood fully integrated part of the english language. From the beta dine shampoo and go with clara acts of ingredient or benz oil peroxide active ingredient. Yes got it okay. i'm. I'm taking notes here so we've got that we've got the horses got itchy spots and all the classics spots. But i don't have any flaky skin yet or maybe i do have some flaky skin yet. Step one periodically shampoo that horse with one of these products. Now let's say you're veterinarian is on vacation for the next ten days and he can't come out. How frequent might someone wants to do this. Is there such a thing as giving them too. Many with this type of product eh. Yes and it depends on the skin. okay. I'll give you an example so some of these products like banville is vague. Drying so if. I am starting with the crusty greasy horse no problem. I could do this maybe every third day every other day but if the skin is already dry then once a week because if i do it more often is too much and you will know because once you're done with the shampoo though the horse is going to be more h. e. and this again is going to be even more flaky. So more dry and so think to do that at that point would be to use some conditioner and the way you can do conditioner. You cannot get some meal product you know there are many Available options available. And or maybe even do like a homemade Conditioner having some baby oil or some form of you know you mac moisturizer. It's a final rents because basically dry skin is itchy. We all know that right. So if you're drying skin too much that you know you make worse than what it is so it really depends on the condition of the skin. If people don't know i would say once a week okay so months. A week is a ballpark. Plus or minus depending upon how drier skin that makes sense though Our.

I think it was proceeding South bound. I don't know that for sure. Hard to tell Because they were tied on the dog. But the dog was beautiful, like Whitehead sort of brindle body really in great shape. Because that thing could move, Man. That thing could move. And now there was a crash. Now. Here's so what happened? What had happened was, Can you look this up? Actually marry on the snow founder South bound because they're showing this up now? The they had leave its inbound. It's inbound. Okay, so the dog is a dog was was running north proceeding North. In the emergency lane on the left it would it kept going. It kept going, but People just civilians were trying to corral it. They pulled cars up and they tried to block off started corner. The dog. And they almost had it done completely. But Ah would appear to be a woman pulled up behind the car that had pulled off that they had cornered the dog. And she opened a door and they had the dog right then and there. Except when she got out of her car. She forgot to put the car in park and it's moved forward slammed into The car in front of it. You know, whatever that is, You know, a couple of miles an hour, but it and freaking the dog out. And it all just ran away because everybody got freaked out. Look the other way The dog took off and went on for five more minutes. Is the dog proceeded. Finally, police were able to corner the dog and what was interesting. I did not realize that they had like muscles and and you know, some form of a leash. That they had available to them. I don't know if that's one of standard things that they carry in their trunk. I don't know what goes on in the trunk of a police car lease. Not in this municipality assumed they would have it because they're what's a lot of critters, you know, attempted head on the road, so they have to corral them. Right. So that Yeah, and all that stuff very specific. Excellent work by the Chicago Police Department doesn't spend a whole lot of time on the Dan Ryan, by the way, unless they're investigating stuff. It happened badly there, But that's not their their beat the that particular stretch of road so they got up on there, and they were moving and ableto calmly and the dog was so they got it. They got the dog a bottle of water. The drug was so wiped out by the time it Everything came to an end and they had on the ground and then light and because it's a bulldog. He refused to leave with the police. Because Bulldogs refused to do everything. Whatever they are. You had to pick him up. To take him somewhere. We all know the answer to the any bulldog owner knows the answer to that. And that's exactly what this little guy and I'm going to call him. Dan Ryan. This is what he had a girl that I still get Danny, right? The thiss guy was so tuckered out and the Catholic pulling out of my eye. Come on, go. So felt for this experiences many a time in my life. But yeah, And the dog's like, Hey, listen, I just ran three miles on expressway. I am going nowhere right now. What we wish we was little and I don't know if I would confront a pit bull like that, even on the Dan Ryan. Yeah, I wouldn't want to get out of my car on the Dan Ryan let alone Well, let's be honest. Nobody wants to another car on the Dan Dan Ryan wouldn't get out of his car on the Dan Ryan, but that's a separate issue. This and I don't know. Depends on the dog, right? I mean, clearly is out on the Ryan. But don't had a really good demeanor. The dog wasn't wasn't wasn't backing up wasn't You know, this did not seem to be aggressive. Other than the fact that like Why am I on an express right now, If you have noticed that on the Dan Ryan survives on the sides there the green area Sometimes there's compounds of dogs. On that area. Rarely do you see the Bethesda? There's a fencing area there. It's rarely do you see him actually getting on the Dan Ryan and this appeared to be in the express lanes. Him. Hello. We push little Danner, Danny Ryan Very well. And if they're looking for somebody to adopt, I'm more than happy right now, because that was a sure they're taking a nap. Do you think Trump knows how much a Big Mac is? Yes, say it does. But that that's a that's a working class. Although I don't know for sure I think he knows how much three hundred of them are, of course. He's just paid at all. I just wonder like this is one of those cutesy things, and I don't I don't begrudge her asking it. But I as usual, we go to Twitter on this and Twitter's all worked up about this. Does that signify out of touch or I got a problem with this guy because he doesn't know much Cheerios are or if he didn't know how much a gallon of milk was it was weird that she didn't ask them that. Because that's usually the standard. Yeah. And again, I would have is back on that too. Because I don't think a lot of people buy milk anymore, and they don't buy it by a gallon either. Well. I don't know. I mean, I'm fairly certain Mika is is out of touch. He is on most of this stuff. Make a how much is a box of smokes. A carton. She wouldn't know does that mean show because she doesn't know know how much is a. How much is a bag of frozen peas? Storebrand ninety nine cents. Does make a no that. I mean. They're things that I don't eat that. I know the price of though, I mean, I don't eat meat, but I know how much package meat is on the store. Yeah. Changed for me. "But yes, the French nouvelle Orleans was founded by Jean Baptiste, the Moyen Banville who came from new France it kit Canada in seventeen eighteen it was named for French regent Phillipe the second do. Dolan's the city expanded from the UK or the old square which later evolved into what we call the French quarter and starting around seventeen twenty three the city built up on this sort of crescent shaped highground around a sharp. Bend of the Mississippi River, his nickname crescent city. I've always wondered since it was a port city it quickly became an important trading town and the capital of the French colony the conditions were kind of miserable though, a monkey mosquito filled swamp. So love the first people sent to Louisiana were criminals. The only ones that France could get to go. Historians like describe it as the impossible, but an edible city a story. We heard while we were there is the colony requested France sent boatloads of women can't very well have a colony without women. But imagine you're a French lady you get on a boat. New arrive at this swamp full of criminals and mosquitoes. They weren't happy. No, no. They wanted to eat away their sorrows with bread. I can only tell you. But we didn't grow well in Louisiana. So they went up to the governor's house. Banging on pots and pans demanding high quality bread beyond the next shipment. And France are they out of there. But instead Madame lingua a family friend of governor bien Bill taught the women how to make cornbread that is how the story goes. Anyway. The settlers made a lot of these culinary adaptations partially because the governor had collaborated, but the native peoples up in new France to feed the colonists there, and it really shaped what New Orleans cuisine would become here's Liz Williams, the founder and director of the southern food and beverage museum in New Orleans. But I think that's the reason there is a cuisine in Vienna. Is because we actually have a French background as opposed to what some much of America do America had which was English. So if you were an English colonist you wanted to maintain your identity as an English person. So you wanted to eat likening person. And there were actually settlements in the early days in America where people starve to death and not because there wasn't food. But because they felt the food of the savages was not the food that they would eat because they will to English. Whereas since we were French, we didn't have that attitude, and our attitude was if it's here, it's French because this is much France as France. So we have to eat an alligator, it's okay, because it's a French alligator it was around the time of this. Supposed- corn bread revolution. In the middle of the seventeen hundreds that we start to see Cajun communities for form. We also talked to Amanda Mik fill-in, the associate director of museum programs at the historic New Orleans collective, which is a museum research center and publisher located in the French quarter. Amanda, who is Cajun herself spoke a bit about this along with Jessica the history of the Cajun Zeh are where winkle the Acadians their group of French settlers that were originally from the Nova Scotia can east coast area of Canada in the mid eighteenth century around seventeen fifty five the British took over that area of Canada and actually forcefully expelled all about twelve thousand Kadian from that region. Meaning they loaded them onto boats. They ship them up and down the east coast breaking up communities breaking up made friends never saw each other again, thousands of people died of disease and of drowning when some of the ships sank it was horrific and some of them did settle in other parts of Canada some settled along the east coast with the largest gr. Of these actually over about twenty period came down to Louisiana because at that point. It was Spanish territory and Spain and France, we're on good relations at that point. And they needed good Roman Catholics to who knew how to work the land to come into Louisiana and go out from New Orleans into the rest, Louisiana and settle that land. And so they did. And they've so they've been here since the seventeenth sixties, and they wherever they have landed whether it be along the water or kind of in the prairie parts of the state..

"Seen Trevor Lawrence. Make some accurate throws as he's getting him on that touchdown pass. He was getting hit right as he got rid of the football showing some real guts in the pocket. You heard the referees announcement, I think in the background there changed the scoreboard or show. Three timeouts for Alabama. The scoreboard clock into TV graphics had them charged with that time out a moment ago. But they were not charged a timeout. So Alabama has all three timeouts remaining. And they're going to need them. Forty four to sixteen Clemson with twenty one seconds to go in the third quarter. Here's Holland guys before the game the wide receivers. And Clemson came out in these shirt that said wide receiver you WRU be legendary. Well, they are all clustered together hugging high fiving, they cannot believe that last series a one handed catch that let everybody with the face that looked like they smell something bad. Like, they couldn't believe it. It was so good. They are starting to really celebrate until themselves over here on this comes from sideline the wide receivers. No. They put on a special performance, particularly on that last. Dr Shawn make a claim to be wide receiver you Holly. They've had seven wide receivers drafted since two thousand thirteen added more than any team in the country. With the penalty the ball teed up for the kick off the fifty yard line and Plumpton is gonna get tricky. Plotter blasted out of the back of the end zone. It might have been through the uprights is the Clemson fans at that. End of the field are cheering. Here's the infant sevens. The Alabama sideline guys if you can imagine a the complete opposite of what holiday just describe even before that last touchdown. They had a thousand yard stare to them stunned in disbelief now, it's a standing eight count. They've been a hit in the mouth. They have no idea. What the heck them as the thousand yard stare over here on the Alabama sideline fellows. We looked down somber mood as you might expect on the Alabama sideline. The defense around their coaches his tongue of Loa. Maybe even more magical than he was last year the championship game on first down long throw down the far sideline. Trying to hit a sprinting. Devante Smith taught that game winning touchdown pass the national championship from to. One year ago that it was an incomplete pass on a long throw down the far sideline largest deficit ever for Alabama now under Nick Sabin as they trail forty four to six game. Mark Fields still in the game. No, Trayvon Mullen at this point with this kind of lead. It's not that big of a deal for Clemson. Damian Harris the running back to his left hand and the passes batted down to the line of scrimmage. He pulled it out of Harris's belly and tantrum use the safety made another big play. He was up near the line. He knocked the passed down. Reading the quarterback time. This jump got it with his right hand. This is a case right now. We're Clemson looks like a team that has all the answers. Alabama has no answers right now. Need an answer here with twelve seconds to go on the third one third down in ten Clemson leading forty four to sixteen. Bama on its own twenty-five, right hash Mark linear side, as we look down on Judy comes in from the far left villa straight back steps up dances to the web pursued by parole and by Wilkins almost to the far sideline. Hedonist Jerry, Judy up. Beautiful throw on the run a patch by Judy was tackled from behind Clemson territory inside the thirty yard line. They needed a big play. And boy is that a big play. Judy got away with a little bit of a push off on Terrell it. And on the other this plate is kinda gets a push off separates for the football. But youthful job by to finding him. And extending the flight that might have kept them in the game. That was going to be four down and ten instead, it's a forty nine yard gain. And they'll be at the twenty seven yard line of Clemson when we go to the fourth quarter and in the third quarter the score at forty four Alabama sixteen. "She's always there for me supporting me dog when I get home. He's not gonna care familiar missed it. But yeah, this is a terrible feeling. Every single one of them. So they got my back, and they love me and not let this affect me. Of course. It's going to stay for few days. I mean being honest, but yeah, I I have to move on. Well, the interesting thing is I don't think he's going to be moving on anywhere because they've already paid him. He's on the hook for three and a half million dollars next year season already already guaranteed. Yeah. But the the other interesting, I don't know if you saw this last night, you know, how Cody parkey practiced in the off season. He was he would go somewhere with a kick. And he would aim at like telephone pole, right or power lines trying to be as accurate as possible. So there's all this video of Cody parkey, literally hitting large metal objects. He just tried to be as accurate as possible. And in the end that was his problem all year long. He was hitting the metal objects instead of putting it through the upright. Yeah. Listen, it's it's the last lap for all purposes last play the game. I know there's a few seconds after that. So lots going to get focused on him as I'm walking out of that stadium. We're going to the car people are saying, oh, man, they should cut him for weeks ago. You know, listen, we know kickers get changed around in the league underwear. I mean, they could change all the time. A lot of people thought it should have happened him a few weeks ago. But it didn't he did make three field goals in this game. He scored more points in the offense correct in this game. And then missed the last one, and that's the one you remember not get he knows it. That's the business players in the locker room. Also. No, hey, listen. We know you made three we know we left other points on the board. We know we could have done. There are we we can pick out more than a few plays of what else could have been a difference on that field there too tough one. It's an absolute tough loss for them. But boy the Philadelphia Eagles my gosh. Saint Nick incredible how they continue to pull it off. We'll we'll get into that in a minute. But you're right. It was Cody parkey six time hitting the crossbar this season. As many is that anybody again, four of those in one four of those in one game week ten against the lines. Maybe find a different way to practice because he seems like you were zoning in. Exactly instead of two. By the way in it. You will appreciate this in only the best way possible that eagles fans can appreciate what what they're doing. They have hit up Cody Parke's van mo- account and are sending him all kinds of money. People sending. Cody parkey van Mobil. One guy said 'em, eight bucks for all the kicks. Classic. Thanks. Appreciate you do. So we made some money. It was a difficult difficult afternoon in the difficult afternoon for for Matt Nagy the bears head coaching and here was Nagy after the game after what had to be an excruciating loss. It's a difficult one to swallow. Just again, just proud of our guys for battling all year long. They battled their tails off again to the very end. And it's things to lose. There's inevitably only one team in the end that that gets the. Trophy. So you got to feel it. I want them to feel it. I want our coaches to feel it. And they will do that. You know, we just had a for us to get together in that locker room and just you can see the emotion and how much the guys care how much of a family. We are. We grew so much in this year that it's okay to to be upset. It's okay to let it. Heard a little bit. But we gotta use this now to to be better. So look, obviously, it's bitter. But then I think there are a lot of things to be very positive about with the Chicago Bears going forward here. But it's not the way they wanted to end. And obviously, but Mike you alluded to it. You can't win a game in the first episode. You can lose. Yeah. And I think the bears left way too many points on the on the on off the board and a on the field in that first half. They were only up six to three now again part of that was that ridiculous ruling that we had where late in the first half. What is it Miller caught the ball, and it was all to catch in a fumble? Because no one stepped on the ball recovered it. They basically said it never happened. Go back to the line of scrimmage, and that's that took away a first and goal from inside the tenure. I mean understand again, if you didn't see it to visualize a deep pass over the middle the ball is caught. And as he's getting pulled down. The ball comes out. So the determination was in there in the review was was it an incomplete pass was that a complete pass. Now when the ball got pulled out. What's your taught this like in little league somebody jumped on the ball the ball just spun on the field. And I guess I guess I can understand the players doing that. Because the referees signaling incomplete pass. So the ball is just spinning on the field. Nobody jumps on the ball. So they go to their review this thing. And it turns out he took steps with the ball. And then it was pulled up before it was down. So it was a fumble. So you're thinking everybody's of course, they're looking at me going. What's the ruling? I'm thinking to myself. Okay. I'm gonna guess on this one. Right. I said well if they're going to determine that that's a fumble. And nobody jumped on the ball. I said, I don't know how they don't just give the bears the ball right there. He had the ball. They call it. A fumble. Nobody jumped on the ball put it where he fell down with the ball. Yeah. That's what I thought was going to happen. And they said he fumbled the boss, oh, he had possession. And fumbled the ball at the five yard line. They said since nobody jumped on the ball. They went back to the line. Discouraging called it in incomplete. Whatever the official ruling is air. But that makes zero sense. Correct. Two things rule number one. What do we always say always cover ball offense or defensive player? Even if you think it's a pass a lateral. Trae. I agree with you. But if the ref is blowing the whistle and signalling incomplete pass. I I'm not gonna lie. Even if I'm a defender. The first thing I'm doing I'm not I'm probably not running over and jumping on the ball though. Now, it's probably going to be taught to do unless they changed that rule, which well, it seems commonsensical they should that's the second thing. I guarantee the competition committee will look at this in the off season and said, okay, we need to come up with a better plan to your point though. I mean, they get a feel rolling center. The possibility of the tux on there. Especially with a defensive ends up giving up sixteen point three hundred yards in two hundred sections. Did he give up the long dry for the touchdown waiting the eagles, Nick foles on that one? But man when you have a defense as good as Chicago's the more points, you get up the obviously the better off, you are look. Absolutely. And and. The the thing that I put out there on Twitter at the end of the first tab your bears fan your little conflicted. Yes. You have the lead in your defense is playing great. But the offense look lost. They did. Listen, they were dominating the eagles in every way, shape and form in that first half and only be leading six to three. I think if you're honest with yourself, you look at the taping of that's why we let it get away from us. And we'll see what happens with them going forward. We have a lot to discuss what the eagles all you seem to be doing this thing again rattle, which is really ridiculous and the Super Bowl champs are still alive. Plus will weigh in on a decision that was considered. But ultimately not made we'll get into that. Mike after this one game left in the college football season. One last time to look into fans villas well, presented by Dr Pepper Banville stars Dr Pepper putting a spotlight on the fans capturing that emotional roller coaster that is the college football season. Critics are saying about this best thing since Dr Pepper Dr Pepper cherry as a lot of stars in it. Brian Bosworth has been great. And it's always Eddie, George and less miles as.

"Depiction equals endorsement thing. Because there is not a counterbalancing force. It just is bound to turn people often. They are totally justified in bouncing off this book for that reason. But Banville says something to the effect of like, it feels very relevant, but it doesn't feel perhaps as meaty as maybe Kandara thought it was or that the initial reaction to the book thought it was because it is dealing with this idea of lightness ironically, or perhaps not Ron at all. And maybe even purposely, the book is dealing with people on a very intellectual level and not kind of getting into their inner emotional life. And so you're not transported to another place in time. You're actually like during the course of the book just thinking pretty hard and dislike meant to reflect on on some of your own feelings, and in it does feel like I am at a party with a dude who has a lot on his mind, and I can't escape the conversation. So might as well engage with it. And it's not a boring conversation. I don't know that I agree with everything he saying, but I found myself multiple times book on as an interesting way of putting that I hadn't thought about it. Like, you're describing the experience of recording a podcast with me. Yeah. Party that you can't leave. But I do like a lot of his turns of phrase and his discussion of what the way that we as we close out. I do want to bring up that music thing they mentioned earlier, and that'll take us home. How about? He talks about the way that we make meaning in life that has to do with this whole lightness idea. Right. And it he uses a musical metaphor and the idea of motifs, and this idea that Tomas and Theresa thought that they are love is this like wonderful meaningful thing because of a series of coincidences of like shared points of interest in their first hour talking to each other, and they both look back, and they're like, he just coincidences. But maybe those are also things that I feel are important about myself. And then from that point forward those things become important parts of themselves because otherwise the love doesn't make sense. So Kandar as kind of he rejects the idea that we should like knock books and stories for relying too much on like. Incidence and these moments of like, oh, I can't believe it happened that way because that's sort of what we do with our lives all the time. Anyway, like, I don't know. I remember the this essay question, I cited earlier because this dude has the same first name as me, and it sounded like a thing I was vaguely interested in and now I can't think of this guys. I can't think this guy Stotts, and I was always going to come back to this book for like, a weird reason or songs and other stories that I've just kind of a simulated into my life and decided are meaningful because they meant something to me at a certain time. Do you have any of those like? Songs that like I'm thinking songs because that's because the music motif. But like that are like now when I when I encounter that thing. It makes me feel something important or big. I mean, the Vince girl the Charlie Brown Christmas album has followed me through many many phases of my life. And it reminds me of all of that. Yeah. It's it's it's not so much like a specific song or specific music thing. But I do like there are. There's Pacific albums, and and he and bans I guess where when I when I do like, I don't actively listen to them anymore. But when I do run into them, whether it's on a on a like discover weekly playlist or something else that does take me back to that time in my life. When I was listening to them the there that remember in two thousand nine or twenty ten right after the right after we graduated from college where we are all just like, sadly, GDP Gatting each other about how the real world was kind of a bummer. The album by them crooked vultures. I think. That supergroup with data goal in the stone, temple pilots guy and Led Zeppelin guy. Right. And the guy from Nostra, nobody. Let's queens stone-age. Yeah. "And the way that and he's talked in other interviews, I make he may have even said this and that times interview reciting earlier Andrew where he's talking about. How like politicians are always going on about how we have to save the kids Ren like they never talk about doing anything for the elderly. They're like our future. We must save our future. And the only future we are all shirt that we get old and need help. I have a lot of thoughts about this. If we want to get into it like for one did you ever notice that most politicians are actually elderly and that oftentimes they pursue short term goals at the expense of long term goals. They often do. Yes. So what if? What if that like what if you talk about that? Instead. What do you? What do you mean? Oh, it's like politicians. You're not you're not disagreeing with Kandara necessarily. You're disagreeing with politics. I'm just saying that that he is not worried about the same stuff. Like if he is worried about politicians, not adequately representing the interests of elderly, folks. Then I know that there's a lot to be said about the way we treat older people in and the way our social safety net is is built to take care of them. But by the like at the at the same time, it's not like, we're. In today like today in twenty eight and it's not like we are taking extraordinary steps to make sure that our kids can get old. And I guess I don't know how how it felt at the time that he was he was writing this. But I feel like as I get older, and it feels like every year is maybe a little more depressing than the one before. Like, maybe being an adult is just like being kind of scared and uncertain of things all the time. No, I don't I don't know. What my my point is accept that. I don't know. This isn't the perspective. I would come at this problem from I guess, yeah. I also think that to me that speaks to what does work in the book. I think there's a great article by John Banville written in twenty fifteen for the guardian one of our listeners. Gabby shared it with me in advance of the episode. And it's revisiting this book. I think 'cause he published his last book was in two thousand fourteen and there were a bunch of hot takes about where Kandara stance and how relevant he is. And Banville says a lot of things that I felt about the book that like the characters leave you kinda wishing for more because Kandar as interested in ideas. The treatment of women leaves a lot to be like desired because they're objects first and foremost. He's just trying to get to know all of them. He is as you can only get to know them if you have sex with all of them. Yes. And I don't think that on that. Specific instance, I'm not sure that it is a like..
