The Latest Science of Growth Mindset

"Today. It's a real honor to have. Carol Dwell on the PODCAST. Dr Deck is a leading researcher in the field of motivation and is the loose in Virginia. Eaton professor of psychology at Stanford. Her research examines the rule of mindsets and personal achievement and organizational effectiveness. Dr Dewick has also held professorships at Columbia and Harvard. University's has lectured to education business. Sports groups around the world has addressed. The United Nations has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences and as one twelve lifetime achievement awards for her research her bestselling book mindset has been widely influential has been translated into over twenty five languages. Dr Dick so great to chat with you today. Scott it's great to chat with you. Oh boy there's so much to talk about. I was thinking about starting with your earliest. Our dissertation research because I remember two thousand three. I remember I was studying intelligence. I was reading a book. A really enjoyed reading of yours. It was one of these. It was an academic book. It was it was short. It was short and it and it went through. It didn't use the language mindsets. This is like back in the day. It was incremental versus entity right to also earliest research. Yeah I'd love to tell you about it when I was in graduate school. I was Kinda gripped by question on. Why did some kids shy away? From challenges and crumble at the first sign of failure while other kids know smarter or more able at the task seem to relish taking on challenges and thrive in the face of obstacles and pretty soon I found. The question was a little bit wrong. It wasn't just that some kids thrived WanNA challenge or cope with obstacles. I found out that some of the kids loved setbacks. They said things like I love a challenge. I was hoping this would be informative and I thought I'm giving them failure problems. And they're thinking this makes it worth their while. I couldn't relate to them at all. I thought they were from another pull on it and I thought I'm going to figure out their secret. I'M GONNA bottle it and I'm going to take a few healthy swigs of it myself because I thought I have a lot to learn from these ten year old kids. That's how I got started on this research. So sounds like the original observation was more a behavioral finding than a cognitive mindset. Finding the way you described it. That's so interesting. I wanted to figure out the cognitive underpinnings of it and my reason was personally relevant. I sixth grade teacher. I kind of figured this out later that it was niece as we say me surge. Notches Research Gus. Let's all do. Yeah and I recommend it. 'cause you never get enough of it. Nice Sixth Grade Teacher had seated around the room in. I Chew Order. We were already the tab I q class in the sixth grade of five classes and yet she thought every cube point was monumentally. Important in non only telling you a how smart you are but whether you had good character could be trusted and essentially what you were worth in. Her is bending the whole year in that classroom. Iowa's really influence. Now you might think Oh I felt downtrodden and unappreciated. Now I was in the first grow I seat. You would think at all. I one that I q prize. As I looked back I realized I never wanted challenges again and I arranged my life to be purely successful not to topple from my height so I wanted to figure out what goes on in people's minds that can allow them to risk taking on challenges and that can give them the fortitude to keep going when things seemed rough. It's such a great question. An important question. I was the opposite I was. I was in special education as a kid. I don't know if I told you that For an auditory in auditory processing disability. So people thought I was really slow swarner because I was having trouble hearing things in real time and sort of the. The impact of expectations can can certainly have an effect on on mindsets. I'm sure and the way we think about things. I'm wondering when did the shift from entity and incremental become fixed versus growth? And that was when I wrote the Book Mindset. I realized nobody can remember entity in Incremental Idaho Central Myself. They couldn't remember anti G. and they couldn't remember an incremental so when I came to write the book mindset I said well I have to find some more user friendly terms but kind of a prior question is how if we just call it. Mining sits now have. How did we get to the point of thinking? That mindsets could play a role obsolete. I asked us because correct me. If I'm wrong. But wasn't entity and incremental. They were called beliefs. It in your language your original language their beliefs not mindset. Is that right? Yeah but I kinda mean the same saying okay. Yeah in my earliest work. I looked at attributions. Kids made for their successes and failures. Did they think the failure measured their ability or did they think the failure manned try a new strategy seek advise? Just keep going but eventually we said why does failure have such a negative meaning for some kids and kind of an informative me meaning for other kids and in the early nineteen eighties working with Mary? Bandera Alexandra's daughter was going to ask. We suddenly realized you know when you think you're being measured and that judgment is really important. Doesn't the kind of imply that you had this extinct? That's being judged and if you think it's just a a failure is is is just a clue for changing your strategy or trying harder or getting input and then learning more. Doesn't that kind of imply that you sink? Your ability can be developed and suddenly. We looked to at each other and just bowled over. What is people have fundamentally different ideas about intelligence and they're carting them around with them and it's affecting how they view challenges how they view setbacks. Wow there was no stopping us. At that point.

Screen Actors Guild Reveals Award Nominees

"Welcome to the frame Steven Cuevas filling in for John Horn our broadcast was preempted today for special coverage of the presidential impeachment proceedings. But we bring you this special podcast addition to talk about the screen actors Guild Award nominations which were announced today and what better person to call on John Horn. WHO's on assignment assignment in New York? Hey John Hey Steven how are you. Okay so let's start with the nominees for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role. What do we got so the nominees? He's were Christian. Bale from Ford versus Ferrari Leonardo di Caprio for once upon a time in Hollywood Adam driver from marriage story Joaquin Phoenix from joker car. And then probably the surprise in the category is turned Edgerton. Who Played Elton John and rocket man? If you start looking at who isn't in I think. Probably the most was notable exclusion as Robert Deniro for his lead role in the Irishman. He is getting a lifetime. Achievement Award Screen Actors Guild Award. So maybe that was part of the math but Jonathan Pryce was not nominated from two popes. Adam Sandler was not nominated from uncut gems and also left out of the competition was Antonio Banderas for pain and glory. Yeah it was a little surprised to see Bandera slept out you and I talked about that film and I think we agree that it was kind of career. Defining performance Let's move on to the lead actress. Category Who have their we have Cynthia Areso from? Harriet Scarlett Johansson from marriage story. The neon go from us. Charlie's therein Erin from bombshell and Renee Zellweger from Judy not a lot of surprises there. There were two women of color. The surprise I guess was that that search or Ronin was not nominated for little women some people thought Aquafina might have gotten in from the farewell. In fact little women did really badly today in the screen actors Guild L. Dominations and how about supporting role in the mail categories some pretty juicy performances. There are some really good pegues. Jamie Fox was nominated for Justice mercy. Tom Hanks Sup- Played Fred. Rogers and a Beautiful Day in the neighborhood. A couple of actors from the Irishman Al Pacino. And Joe Patchy and then Brad Pitt from once upon a time in Hollywood I said earlier. Jonathan Pryce was not nominated for playing Pope Francis in the two popes. Anthony Hopkins was not nominated for playing Pope Benedict in the two popes as well and this is also one of those weird categories in terms of. WHO's supporting and WHO's lead? It's one of those things where the studios can kind of say to the screen actors guild and the academy and other words as we think. This person is a lead this person's supporting I mean. They're two popes are mostly onscreen for the the same time. And you have Brad Pitt. Who is up for supporting actor? Leonardo DiCaprio for lead actor and once upon a time in Hollywood. I think he put a stop. Watch on it Leo. Joe Might have like twenty seconds or screen time. I don't know it feels like that's kind of tricky. Math and Tom Hanks's probably star of a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Even though he shares there's Screen time with another character again. The studios got to decide of the actors. Don't vote somebody in that category than they don't get nominated yes. Some people might be especially puzzled by the Tom. Hanks category for him winding up in the supporting actor. Can you explain that a little bit like why why that is well. I think if you look at that that film you can say that even though. It's a movie about Fred Rogers. It's really about the journalist whose life is transformed by meeting with Fred Rogers and something similar happened. In the supporting actress. Category according to Variety Kathy Bates is in this film by Clint Eastwood. Call Richard Jewel rule and she's been getting some awards attention in the supporting actress. Category but according to Variety Warner brothers mistakenly submitted fitted her as a lead actress for the screen actors Guild Awards and she didn't get nominated and she didn't get nominated for supporting actress because they had submitted committed error in probably the wrong category. Well who else do we have in the category of supporting actress. Another pretty strong category. Laura dern from marriage stories Scarlett Johansson another nomination for Joe Joe Rabbit this time and then to actors from bombshell Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie and finally Jennifer Lopez from Hustler's right. We have so we have Scarlett Johansson nominated for both lead and supporting actress rare A little bit but you know pretty. Good Year for Scarlett Johansson. I don't think you can fault any of those performances. I think they were both really strong. And you know she's playing opposite. Visit Adam driver. Who was nominated for marriage story? Joe Joe Rabbit as we're GONNA say in just a second got a little bit more attention as well so both nominations. I'd say we're served in both. Were in really good films. Let's finish up with the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Is it true that this winter is often a predictor for the Academy Award Best Picture winner in historically. Yes that has been true but if you look at the last two best picture winner shape of water and green book they weren't even even nominated for the Sag Ensemble Award so yes. It is a good thing to be nominated for in terms of Academy Awards because it's important to note the actress. Branch ranch is the biggest branch in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. So what the actors do in the screen actors. Guild awards is often a good harbinger of what the Oscar Asker voters might do. So the nominees for on Samba were bombshell. Which I think is a little bit of a surprise? Good news for that film. The Irishman Joe Joe Rabbit once upon a time time in Hollywood and the real surprise in this category was parasite which is a Korean film. It's only the second foreign language film in Sag History. The other one one was life is beautiful to get a nomination for the ensemble award. I think it's really important for parasite. I think it's interesting. THAT MARRIAGE BRIDGE STORY WASN'T NOMINATED FOR ENSEMBLE. Neither was little women and so all the power seemed to be going to parasite right now and I would have to say say once upon a time in Hollywood and the Irishman well there you have it this year's screen actors Guild Award nominations in the film category. John you may resume get your New York theatre going. Thank you Steve. And I'll go do it right now

Joe Joe Rabbit Hollywood Harriet Scarlett Johansson Guild Award Fred Rogers Tom Hanks Jonathan Pryce Leonardo Di Caprio Elton John Adam Sandler New York Brad Pitt Academy Of Motion Picture Arts John Horn Guild L. Dominations Steven Cuevas Joe Patchy Robert Deniro Edgerton Joaquin Phoenix

Do you think video games lead to violence in society?

"Today. We're talking about the video games and violence. Okay are violent video games a problem for our kids. These days still on. I think violent video games are problem in general not not just for our children before adults. I think that if you want to say that anytime we're exposing someone to violence that can make them a little more aggressive than that's true but are we're going to say that violent video games are the reason that you're seeing some of the things that we're seeing society with these shootings than i think that's an argument that you know there's different sides of the fence where the bandera did a study alber bandera scientists who did a study back in nineteen thousand nine hundred sixty one were. It's called the bobo doll experiment where the bobo doll experiment okay and so it was looking at observational learning social learning theory where essentially if you watch children watch parents become aggressive then what happens they'll they'll repeat those behaviors so we know that once kids witnessed certain aggressive things that they're more likely to repeat those behaviors immediately after after watching it but is it to say that over time those aggressive behaviors will stick with them. Research doesn't support that wow that's very interesting <hes> so you know you so you talked about <hes> violence and and you know what you surround yourself with it brings me back to how we opened the show our spiritual daily by ana v mendoza which was does can you say it again for us yeah so it was just to be mindful of your ingesting mind body and soul because it's it's really important net really impacts the way you think your lifestyle your quality of life. Every hamlet affects you on every level. So if you're ingesting a lot of violence you will become violent highland. Don't you think it's it depends right because if we're saying that if i'm if i'm in a violent home in which i'm watching my mother and my father fought a lot arm in in a violent community than in those situations i may be combined because i feel like i need to be violent in order to survive so now we're talking about. Survival opposed to me watching violent movies. These are playing violin video games a lot of times. There's a separation where kids can understand that. Hey this is video game. A lot of times with video games are viewing. Those is simply outlets. That's an outlet for me. Take out my frustration. Nowadays keys are not outside playing football and baseball they used to they're going inside so now what happens they're getting on the game and they're yelling screaming at the game so now they can go to school and they can function so for us to kind of look at it where any bilingual that that we're exposed to can cause us. I think there are certain situations where we're we're more likely to be violent if we're exposed to certain things than others and i think in home in environmental violence is definitely more bay predicted than video games. Well you know that makes me think of one. One of my favorite books suffered the children by maryland wedge which was renamed <hes> pills or not for preschoolers. This is a very old edition but says when i'm doing therapy i'm thinking of two levels of meaning all all the time of a child is angry and explosive. I immediately out asked myself who else in <hes> in his family. She's speaking of little boy who else in his family might be angry. Explosive explosive even though the other family member may express those feelings in a different fashion and says we saw this with joey who's outward anger reflected his father's inner rage about his job while that's think about that so a you see a kid on the playground and he whether he's cussing up a storm or he's he's doing inappropriate things. You're always wondering hey what is this kid witnessing at home right what's going on and sometimes you have their witness at home but there's other times where maybe they're picking up on those behaviors and other other places but i think even more importantly is you sit down and you act kid. Hey what's going on. Why do you think this is okay the ability to want to correct behavior. I think sometimes we're quick to go behind closed doors and say it start judging instead of asking the question like hey are you okay. Why do you think that's appropriate or hey let me talk with your parents about what's going on because again. If there's a behavior behavior that we noticed what the child is problematic. Why not try to correct it but let's try to correct it in an appropriate way. Do you feel that there is a correlation between all the school shootings and all the violence is that we have in our world now <hes> and and video games the increasing <hes> i mean so many kids have these in their hands and adults to as you said case you talked about at the beginning beginning <hes> when we first started talking about this that adults to that should be aware of the violence that they're ingesting okay so there is is there a correlation. I believe yes there is a correlation elation but correlation doesn't necessarily mean that that's the call so again. There's only twenty percent of kids who <hes> twenty percent of the kids who engaged in these mass shootings means <hes> play video games right. That's a very small number and then when we look at the las vegas shooting. That was a sixty three year old man so a lot of times. If we're looking for something something to blame we will we will find something to blame. Instead of looking at a person is more likely to commit violence due to substance abuse the anything and then here we go. We're talking about school. Shootings a lot of times in this thing. That kinda bothers me. We see in the media. There's a lot of discussion about hey. That's mental health mental health so what that means is for the person who is out there suffering suffer winning and depression there now fearful to go talk to them in a health professional because the fear is hey. They're gonna put me in that group. If i tell them i have mental health they're going to think i am more likely likely to be a mass shooter and i think the narrative is giving is is creating the problem with the stigma set of helping the people that committed the crimes of the school shootings weren't most of them on <hes> pharmaceuticals as well. Well i five percentage or even. I'm thinking they might even be like every one of them. It could have been but is it prescription prescription or is it more so when you have kids nowadays who are engaging in recreational drug use as far as like prescription drugs and things of that nature that are given to their parents or their grandparents not surly them so again. Substance abuse doesn't increase violence yeah

"Warrant Russell. Hey, we got some phone calls. They wanna talk to your day. So let's get back to two seven three seven twelve hundred one eight hundred three eight three nine six four Beverly morning. Hi. Question. The other day I saw at court. Plant. I think it's called pronounced hydrangea just what color wasn't was booming was green, okay? Wasn't booming yet? Blooming and diplo green now. Nurseries looking for one and they said they told me that the only way you could get him. Green was to use a special food. Substance to give them. And it would turn the, the flower green. Is that true or not? Or have you ever seen it depends on the variety? If it's still green in my be the flour is still forming, and the as an open to the color. So, for instance, if you look at the floral quality says that you see, when says, I said once issued the flora quality hydrangea years that you see during special occasions like mother's day. What they do is the pink is the, the usually the standard one, and if you want them to be blue, then they use a very high acid, which is typically aluminum sulfate, that you can do yourself and really acidify that's going to change the litmus tests on this city. Inoculating. In a make pink to the bluish color. Then, the, the white ones then they usually use a magnesium sulfate. Okay. Now this grain situation. What I think we're seeing how large is the flower, first of all the normal, you know, Sixers across for four to six how do you know how long it's been open because what I'm thinking right now, is it hasn't colored up yet because it doesn't have enough nutrition or sunlight, unless it's a variety, that's that I'm not familiar with your neighbor. Yeah. I did she? She went with because she was babysitting plant, another neighbor. And so she said, I wanna keep this alive. Holiday. So she's babysitting the plant, so she and I went looking for a plant like that. We went live here, Bandera road rainbow gardens, and all those along Bandera road. We've and went to a couple over on Blanco. I mean on on. Can't think of it right now ten road. But anyway, couldn't find one in the only one we, we didn't find one but the guy at the nursery on Bandera road told us that you can buy a and he went to look for it, but he said, even out in would he would receive Thursday, and it's a substance, you can give the plant animal, turn green, or you can have huge it and pink or different one, the colors, I just mentioned aluminum sulfate as pink to blue magnesium sulfate as to make it wide. But I've never seen that grain so t the variety issue or something. I'm not familiar with. But I think it just hasn't colored up. To what that is just starting to get ready to bloom, but those kind of particular procure right there. Well, okay, I don't maybe would know if there was such a planet, green, green one, I have not like for Saint Paddy's day for carnations and stuff like the white carnations. They use those dies to make him green, but on I've never seen that for the hydrangea. Thank you very much for the information. Thanks for the call. Beverly should go to Carol. Good morning Carol. How are you? Good morning. Excellent. Thank you. Cool. My grandson has grown in Kodo she'd, and he wants three planet, but I'm not sure how to replant it and. Got one stamina. Two feet long with ours and then it's got a bunch of growing in water. Okay. So, yeah, a lot of people do that. You know, with the Haas, avocado, which is the best between Guatemala Guatemalan and Mets again selections. And that's the most famous for what the mole in all the condos we'd, so everybody gets a seed, and they've put in a little water and grow than they've bought it up. But realistically, you know, when you grow a plant in water like Ivy or something like that, it forms a different air route in water, and it has reset a new route system in the potting mix. So next time that we do that just directly put him in little pots. And then when we grow these plants ideal if we can use of rain water because often the men, this apology water, tens of really burned, a leaf edges, of avocados and.

The Best Movies of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival

"The Cannes film festival wrapped up this past weekend. The awards are out and the reviews are in and Tonio Bandera won best actor for Pedro Malda Vars pain and glory, the first award given to a black female director, went to Mattie, Diop for her film, Atlantiques, and one of the most talked about films, Quentin Tarantino's once upon a time in Hollywood failed to win a single prize. We connected with Elissa, Wilkinson over Skype to get her take. She's a film reporter at FOX that Palmdale winner, which is the top prize at Cannes was Bong, Jun, Ho's parasite long is known for making films that are very much about class warfare. And this one is especially about that. It's kind of a literal is metaphor about class warfare in Korea. There was a film called back route from Brazil, and that one's about poor people into village being targeted by wealthy people. For sport. And they're trying to fight them off. There was a film called Atlantic's, which was the first film actually from a black woman to be in the main competition at Cannes, and that one's really about young Africans who are fighting back against a wealthy developer, whose not paying them for their work. So it was really a festival full of films about vulnerable people trying to figure out ways that they could gain

"What's up, Johnny? But he's like, hey I we might need you in Calgary tonight. And I'm like tonight tonight, he's like, yes. And we have a new record out. So if you could learn these three. You might not hear no elilott, but I'm gonna spend the flight revisiting. What I did last time because I have played a Bon Jovi song in two years. And he goes, okay? That's cool. Just haven't ready for tomorrow, so with the flight and getting my gear because I was working on the Scots that solo record at the time with Howard Benson. So Mike tars were at Howard Benson studio. So I had to get my tech to go to Howard Benson's studio. Pick up my guitar meet me at the signature airport, where I flew to Calgary and there was playing funk. So the plan was late. So I didn't make that show. But which was great. Did Richie play that show? No. They played the show without Ritchie without me. John and Bobby Bandera right. Because he was in the band of the right. But, you know, and John said, you know, went, nobody wanted their money back. But I don't wanna do that. I wanna front of band on the play guitar all night, right? And I go. Yeah. Totally get it. So, so the next day Edmonton, and we had a lengthy soundcheck Joan was like what do you need to play? And I go to run this, this, this, and this, and then we rented, and then played that show that night and then come back that time. So I did ninety shows that year. Wow. Around ninety shows and you singing is a big part of that gig was playing the Samburu stuff. You've got gotta also sing because he was a big part of the vocal sound core. So that I'm sure was a big part, your voice, a big part of the appeal making that work because I've seen the ban now since you've been in it and the vocal things a big part of it. And I know you guys pride yourself on that. Yeah. Well, the, the vocals, everybody's things. Great everybody plays. Great and my saving grace was a teleprompter. Because I had so much to remember. Material wise with, with the guitar parts. So if I had to memorize those lyrics as well. That would have been. I don't know the downfall. What's the what is the Bon Jovi? What was the Bon Jovi audience reaction like to you being in that? I mean Richie very loved guy. Obviously, the right hand guy of John, you know what was the audience reaction? Like when people started seeing this other guy up there who maybe they didn't know where where you where you welcomed by the audience, or they're some rough night's riff nights. You know, you still see people that I people are holding up signs saying whereas Richie, and, you know, when John introduces me, maybe there's a couple of booze and stuff like that. But it I am even in two thousand eleven when I. It wasn't like a chess move. It seems like a chess move..

But he is as manslaughter probably he is an agent of chaos destroyed his own family. He's destroyed the relation between his dad and his dad's boss, and now, of course, the life of Livia wild, and it also it also kind of destroys his life for a little while. Verily traumatizes he can't sleep his incessant. Crying makes turns his dad into like crazy demon drone. Where we see we all montage of havi and isabela's relationship deteriorating sitting at a table scowling at each other. And he's like, I tell you humans just a few things I try to be so clear. My whole Gus Bill is about putting olives in your ears, and no one's figured it out. So at this point Antonio Bandera shows back up and he helps Rigo go to like kind of expensive therapy to help him get over his trauma. Unfortunately, and this allows him to weasel his way back. He just e it's, you know, it's that little crack that he just prize open. And this things come to a head of actually hobbies. Like, you know, clearly, you wanna be with my wife you love her. "A good time. And we are going to bring it to you coming up in our number two. We're going to talk a wild and crazy UNLV story. We'll we'll explain to you. Why UNLV had to bus back from San Diego after getting blown out by the Aztecs? We'll get to that coming up in our number to talk a little NFL. Of course, our number one is usually are hot topics news politics of the day. And what better person sitting across from me, then to discuss some of those topics than radio personality, Chris when Chris appreciate you coming in studio is always how are you? I'm very good Brian. And of course, you know, we just have a plethora of topics to go over given all the activity here in the last few days both on the politics front. Adam sports front for that matter activity is one way to put it is just nuts. Crazy day today. We're learning that the Robert Mueller. Investigation. Most likely is coming to an end very very soon. We will get to all that. And we will. Of course, take your calls a two five seven five three nine six. The first thing. I want to talk about is the hypocrisy when people call the left-wing media, you know, the fake news. Donald Trump has been saying it for ever since he started the campaign the fake news CNN MSNBC. I want to read you this story in the hypocrisy because now Donald Trump. That's right. Your president my president going after Fox News, Fox News anchor. Julie Bandera today lashing out at President Trump after he attacked her colleagues on Twitter a day earlier. That's right now, we all know Trump regularly, bashes CNN NBC. But now he took aim at two new targets in a tweet. And this tweet was last night. Hey, Fox News, John Roberts, and Gillian Turner, rare moment this is what Trump said in his tweet never thought. I'd say this. But I think Robertson Turner at Fox News have even less understanding of the wall negotiations in the folks that fake news, CNN and NBC. That's what the president treated now. Bandera who works for Fox News. Not a big fan of her politics. But she is extremely hot. I will say. I don't know if that counts, you could probably say that for a lot of a lot of the women that work over to work in television news period to say fair enough. So this is what she said. She says this is not right. They don't deserve this. No reporter does they're doing their jobs and reporting on the facts in in regards to the wall. Okay. This is this is where I have my problem with Fox News, and Ben dares were the hell has she been for the last two and a half years didn't hear her complaining when they took Jim Acosta's credential didn't hear her complaining when constantly it seems like almost on a daily basis. It's either somebody from the White House or Donald Trump himself calling and NBC and CNN fake news. Never heard Bandera anyone at Fox News complain about that. But now all of a sudden, should we be surprise that Donald Trump is going after Fox News? It was inevitable, folks. Eventually if anyone has any honesty our credibility at Fox News. He's going to go after somebody there, Chris, and it happens now, that's why this woman been Julianne Deras has absolutely zero. Oh credibility because the only time she speaks up, and she says she always picks up for journalists. That's not true. The only time I've seen her on social media speak out against what Donald Trump says about the left wing media. Never actually the only time she's ever done. It is today this morning on her Twitter.

It's an idea backed by force and law and all the rest, but it is just an idea and America is a country not rooted on a race or creed or tied to religion. A lot better which doesn't work in your favor when you're buying. A certified pre-owned. The only reason that that they hold their value better. Is they cost more when they're new, but there's so many more tiles on the market at any given time that kind of drives the process down. And that's not the case with Yukon. I go with a certified Tahoe. If it were me, I take an Z Tahoe is just every bit as nice as a top of the line Yukon is. Okay. Okay. They have they hold their value. Pretty well to get Dell. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's going to be the bulk of what you find out there other than former rental vehicles, usually they're you know, on the lower side. But if what I would be looking for is something that's coming in off lease usually those are the notches vehicles. Typically, they'll have from thirty to thirty five thirty six thousand miles depending on you know, the person who leased it. But there's there's typically many of them on the market. "But when they're sitting there face to face, what agent forty seven says. And I think he says it like two or three times is are you a good man inspector. How does a good man decide when to kill? If you're going to ask that question, then enter a flashback, I expect that flashback to answer that God damn question. We never come back to that question. We do at the very end. But we don't get an answer. That question didn't need to be posed at the beginning. If the story wasn't going to go the way that it was trying to set it up. We should have begun in Africa. We should have started Nigeria for some reason in the five years that he's been chasing this guy. They start the story three months ago in shanty. Town where the hitman sets up an African warlord blood diamond Leonardo DiCaprio movie about child soldiers had just come out. It was a topic in the news where do you get your diamonds? And at what cost this seem like the right way to set up a bad guy and show that while the hitman may be an assassin. He at least kills the guys you wanna see deck. Sometimes I mean in the game he dressed like a priest and kill people sometimes too. So people that want to see priest dead. But here's the quick way to tell if you're watching the R rated or the unrated cut if you realize the guy chained up is the brother of the warlord, and then you see the brothers arm cut off because he was stealing from the warlord. Then you're in the unrated cut. Okay. And the R rated cut. There's no arms cut off. And it's really hazy who this guy is brought in. But the reason we have the scene here. The reason we're starting here is we're showing that the hitman kills bad people. Sometimes we're also being shown though that they hit me ends a bad ass and affective at his job because the story is going to begin as all stories do with hit men when the job goes south. I have a real problem with hit me and movies in that I want to love all of them. But it seems ninety eight percent of them are the job went bad. And now the person who hired me is going to kill me. Or I have to kill the person who hired me. It's just a trope. Sometimes it's oh they hired me to kill a kid. I'm not going to do that. I'm going to take the kid on the run. Sometimes it's oh, I was set up. I'm being burned for whatever reason it is here. But assassin stories be at the movie, assassins was loan Tonio Bandera is the only one I could think of that breaks. The trope is really there's the professional, of course. But day of the jackal that one takes a different tack. But if the assassins your main character, it's like one hundred. Percent of the time the job's going to be a fuck up and the rest of the movies him on the run because of the fuck up. So we need this early scene to show. Hey, this guy's not an incompetent boob. Right. The ones that are incompetent are the people interrogating this, brother. I love the fact that they cut off his arm, and then take the gag off to ask him questions. The little diverse and surprisingly he's giving berry calm answers as he believes out..
