"From those just who wins the division. But a division we're not talking about enough, the AFC north is going to get three playoff teams. I don't think that's an overreaction at all. I think that that is possible. Look, we have, let's just say it one more time here. Alan Rogers tua you didn't even put pick it up on the screen right there. But by Tom, because you want to bet against Mike Tomlin. Got it. So you've got watts. I think it's going to be good. Borrow Lamar. You've got Trevor Lawrence, mahomes. Wilson. Jimmy G and Herbert, I just mentioned a bunch of names here. Only 7 are going to make it, right? If a rookie quarterback pops through. If Bailey zappy can quick game his way, same intensity. Okay, if that happens, then even more names that I just mentioned won't make the playoffs. You can absolutely say Lamar deshaun Watson and borough are making it. You can absolutely say burrow, Lamar, Pickett's making it. You could absolutely say picket Watson and Burroughs making it and Lamar doesn't, or absolutely. So that's not an overreaction. It may be inaccurate, but that's not an overreaction right there. Now an overreaction would be Richardson's going to be amazing and so a Stroud and the AFC south gets three in. Okay, that's super high. So what else

"Better and I think he's like two or three inches taller if you're talking about operating from the pocket. It's really difficult to see a scenario where Bailey zappy becomes anything more than sort of schemed up system type of guy that maybe plays a mistake free football and I don't even know if he plays a mistake free football if he's going to be out there a lot. It's funny. The I think the most mishandled thing and Belichick doesn't care. Let's put that out there first, right? We're not dunking on him by saying this. The only people who care about an explanation for the move are people who cover the team, right? And so, you know, Belichick was asked about it after the game and he said, yeah, no, that was always the plan. Which is not true. And then they asked the beat writers asked like every offensive player. Hey, were you told that in practice this week? Was it like, yeah, you're going with zappy after like the third series randomly and everyone's like, no, that was not the plan. And Billy's Abby's just terrified of Belichick. And so when he's asked about it, he's just like, yeah, no, yeah, whatever he says. So, but it seems like this decision was crumbling. The reason for the decision is crumbling on him. He clearly rode the hot hand. And you know, you hearing the whispers out of, it was Ben volland at the Boston globes. It had the thing about Mac Jones having some attitude issues, our own Albert breer. I think a couple of weeks ago said that there's a definite Discord between Patricia judge and Mac in terms of how the offense is going. This could just be Belichick being like, hey, I really don't care. I don't have time for this if you're not going to run the offense the way that I want it. I'm just going to put anybody else in and I'm the greatest modern coach in NFL history, so it doesn't really matter. And I'll do whatever I want to do. Whatever it is, man. I mean, Mac Jones looks bad out there. He did not look bad last year. It's kind of the old adage when you have zero quarterbacks. You have zero quarterbacks. And that's what we're looking at to an extent here. I saw you smiling when you get when you deliver that line. You knew that was a solid one. I thought of it in the shower this morning. But yeah, I don't know what and we're also not going to eulogize Mac Jones right here. Anyway, but I don't know what he would become 5 years down the line. You know, would we be sitting here and being like, ah, patriots, you know, pretty good, but he got an upgrade that quarterback at some point, the kind of Kirk Cousins Y type of type of career path here. And there's nothing wrong with Kirk Cousins as a ceiling, but Kirk Cousins is probably the ceiling is what you're looking at. So. There's not a, there's not necessarily a right choice, but it's just like, I don't know. You are not going all in and making an aggressive draft move or you think someone's going to shake loose that you can get your hands on in terms of veteran stuff.

"RingCentral. Simpler communications. All right, well, let's go to Foxborough where we have a full blown quarterback controversy. I mean, this was wild on Monday night. Watching this thing unfold. What was your reaction? As you saw, Bailey zappy come off the come off the bench there. Pure energy. And this is like not a moment that I'm proud of as a dad as a human being, but it was a bedtime. Right when this is happening. And my main thing in life is gotta read the bedtime stories every night. That's like my thing. Can't miss it no matter what, home or away. And I go out one of the books is on the dining room table and then all of a sudden you see zappy come in, crowd goes bananas and then he throws that bomb down the field and for a minute, I just totally forgot about where I was or what I was supposed to be doing. And I just got wrapped up. I had straight up, there was zappy days in my house, you know? And like ten minutes later, my daughter's like, hey, what's going on here? I thought we were, I thought we were reading dragons love tacos, and I was like, oh yeah, okay, sorry, let's refocus. But I was taken by the moment. And I can't say that that's happened to whole great deal of times during the NFL season this year. I was hoping you were going to say that you jostled the kids awake. They like, guys, they always have these in. Come on. Everyone's got to see this. And we're going to take a step back and be a little more rational about this. I think, as we discuss it, but it was the crowd reaction was wild. And look, boy, that wide open play action pass to Jacobi Myers. That happens right afterwards. It's like, oh my God, what is this? And he made a tremendous throw on the next drive to devonte Parker. On a 9 ride as well. So there were some good things. When you step back though, I think there are and look, it's all kind of guesswork at this point. There's no rational argument in my mind for playing zappy over Mac Jones, except he seems to be more comfortable with what Matt Patricia is doing as a play caller than Mac Jones. Mac Jones seems completely uncomfortable with it. I don't know if that's a matter of sort of the uncertainty over the course of the summer about who's going to call the plays, who's the offense coordinator, all that stuff that seemed to really just sew some confusion there. Maybe that sort of put the two on even footing, but you know, I think it's become fairly clear over the last half decade. For young quarterbacks, it's kind of a traits first position. It's not a traits only position, but it's kind of a traits first position. Matt Jones is not a traits guy. But every box, he is arm talent is significantly better.

"I'm Gary gramley. And I'm Connor roark. We have some dream trades to get to later in the show. From Connor's dreams. Fever dreams. We're gonna find out what these are. I don't know of at all. I can't wait to have these unveiled, but we're starting to show with a couple of couple of QB controversies here. I guess one is not really a controversy 'cause it's settled now. And we have one going on in New England, most certainly, but man, I don't know, I just didn't picture a world where around week 8 levy talking Sam ellinger and Bailey zappy on this show in any significant way. Yeah, I mean, if you would have asked me to make something up at the beginning of the year that sounded weird. And I used to do that a lot. When I worked at NFL network and sometimes during the early days of the MM QB, there were these prompts, right? Like these group discussion things where they would say like, oh, give us this. Which team will win the next the most super bowls in the next 5 years. And sometimes you're just like, I don't feel like doing that. So you make something funny up. Like I said, like something like the San Antonio, the San Antonio Buccaneers or something like that. And then made up this wild scenario where Steve Belichick coached the San Diego San Antonio Buccaneers, whatever it is. And so if you were to ask, if I had an annoying prompt before the season, I would have probably written something like Bailey zappy and Sam Hellinger. Take center stage in a week. What about is happening here? Yeah, yeah, well, that's where we find ourselves. Let's start, let's start with Eleanor because certainly this is the one that is, like I said, it's settle now. Matt Ryan is injured, but as the cold stated heading to the bench regardless, let's start with ellinger the player and what he may be brings this off and sets a little bit different. And then we'll kind of get into maybe some of the politics going on behind this and throughout all our conspiracy theories and all that stuff. But the one indisputable plus here you get from moving to Matt Ryan, who is not playing well. It was not working out this season. To say I'm ellinger is you have a little bit mobility back there.

"Audiences know what they like, and with touch points for every passion, Amazon ads, knows how to reach them. What a QB roller coaster it was on Monday Night Football. The bears won, by the way, Justin Fields looked improved. That's a nice roller coaster day and we'll talk about what on earth happened with Mac Jones and Bailey. It's like Marvin to something good. Okay, that's what you think. That state orlowski, that's where in Clark, Marcus spears is with us too. Let's revisit last night guys to begin as we begin with. The Patriots hosting the bears, Mac Jones, were wondering if he's gonna start, but turns out he is making his return as a starting quarterback. It's Justin Fields turn first, though, bear's already up three zero. They got first and goal from the three. Fields takes it themselves. We saw this all night condensed split. You get the motion and freeze defenders, and then you pull people the lead out in front touchdown Chicago. Early second quarter, ten, nothing. Oh no. Don't do it. One hand. Yum. Do it. This terrible decision, bad play. That's not who you are. Second and ten, you're down in essentially field goal range defenses one to rep because of their rush to throw the bottom bounds. All right, so the next patriots drive Bailey zappy subbed in at quarterback fans of Gillette are pumped and zap you with play action throws to a wide open Jacoby Myers of course he's wide open with zappy comes in. Patriots trill ten 7. Ridiculous adjustment on that throw by Jacoby Mars because that's not a good throw by zappy ends in a good result. How about this? All of them RC coming up for zappy. Well, this is a great catch down the sideline by devonta Parker. He goes up, he climbs the ladder. This is why they acquired him in the off season, but it seems like everything's going right for the backup. Patriots score later in the drive to take the 14 to ten lead two minutes ago in the half. Bears with the ball at the pat's 25 fields able to get it to Khalil Herbert. He's got blockers in front walks into the end zone. The bears go up, 17 to 14. Let's go halfway through the fourth quarter. Bears with a commanding lead, zappy still in the game at this point, he starts to struggle. He had struggled before this, too. Dropping back passing, it's batted by roquan Smith coming up with the interception. The bears beat the Pats 33 to 14. Here's Bill Belichick after the game. When Mac came out of the game bill was that a medical decision, the timing of following him? So is that related to the interception that was his last plate tonight? We had planned to play my total quarterbacks though. We were going to play both of them. And so was the plan for three series. It just seems when his last plays in interception, it looks like a benching for performance. That's not what it was, but you know, you can write whatever you want to write. That's not what it was. Well, not sure we thought we were going to get a whole lot from Bill Belichick on this one, but really mysterious across the board. Dan, I'll start with you on this. What did you make of how the quarterbacks were handled last night for the Patriots? I hated it. You know, respectfully, coach Belichick, there's no way that you can believe or have us think that whether we've been around football or a fan that that's not a benching. It looks every bit of a benching. And I would have preferred you after the game to say yes, I benched Mac Jones. I gave him the chance to start he said he was healthy enough. He moved around fine, but dagon, I can't have him give the football away. And when I saw that, I said, okay, enough. I've seen one. We're down ten nothing. Let's bring out Debbie. And my next thing would be about this about Mac Jones. Mac, I love you, dude. And if I was Joe judge, the quarterback coach, I'd walk into that room and be like, what the fudge, dude, you can't do that. You've got a head coach that for 20 years built the greatest organization ever, unlike all the cliche things that have to do with sports. One of them is, do not give the ball away, right? There's a difference between a turnover and a takeover. That's a legit turnover. I loved Mack because you knew who he was coming out of draft. That's not you. Damn, but then rid of it. Danny, like stop it though. Like the dude threw one pick. Like, I could see if he had an opportunity to play until halftime. And he threw two interceptions and he was fumbling the football in the pocket. And it was one of those things where you felt like he was in over his head in the return. This wasn't it. To me, this was premeditated. When you come into a game and a guy is pulled after he throws an interception, it's because you might believe in the other guy, at least at this point, a little more. And it's different if we are playing like we have two really good quarterbacks, right? Right. The fact that okay, Mac, you're not really feeling it right now. Let's bring in belly. Okay, barely, you're starting to struggle. We've seen Mac do this for an entire year. Let's put him back in the game and ride that hot hand. That wasn't what he was doing. I agree with you on this. It was a benching. When you pull it and you don't pull him back in the game and that's your starter, he was bitch. The problem is this. Everybody was in the stands. Oh, we got Tom Brady. Drew Bledsoe. Lies, you tell zappy throws two picks now, and now you're in a situation to figure out who starts next week. Yeah, that fairytale story didn't quite come to the ending that patriots fans wanted it to. We're going to get to Marcus in just a moment, but Mike Reese covers the Patriots for ESPN. Thanks so much for being with us here, Mike. And you spoke with Bill Belichick this morning. What did he have to say about all this? Well, so Laura, here's what we got. The day after he played the two quarterbacks, which you were just talking about, he's not ready to narrow it down to just one. So he holds this day after game, video conference, and the thing that stood out to me was that he hinted that Mac Jones health is still a key consideration, have a listen. As you move forward, if he's healthy Bill, is he, is it

Here's a shot they score again, the chance for Jensen that hits off a hearing goals. It is fine. One Washington on the first goal of the season for Nick Jensen. And the capitals have blown this bad boy wide open. Yeah, John Walton on 1500 a.m. Jensen also with three assists in the third period, the Devils actually just trimmed it now to 5 two, Charlie lindgren having a busy night in net 26 saves a four goal second period the last of which you just heard as a capital's comfortably ahead now as we've got about 12 minutes left to go in regulation. Monday Night Football in New England off to a surprising start the heavily favored patriots Sasha Chicago scored the first ten points and they currently trailed the bears ten to 7 about midway through the second quarter. Now inexplicably the bad started Mac Jones tonight, he was awful in his return from injury, so Bailey, zappy to the rescue, he goes three for three 54 yards off the bench including a 30 yard touchdown to Jacoby Myers. "The field so that part of it for me has been a little frustrating to watch. Watching the Patriots and Bailey zappy, is it zapier zap? We call them zappy. We're calling them zappy. You can call them. Just call them the best quarterback in football. But we got a young guy that comes in and right away on a third down, takes a shot up to Devon Devante Parker, who goes up and gets it and brings it down, right? And so there's some of these passes down the field that you're not seeing with some of these other guys, Aaron Rodgers, for example, there's a lot of the RPOs and just getting it out of his hand. And some of that's probably trust with receivers, but more down the field shots, man. That's why I'm hoping Jameis plays this week for us on Thursday night because you know he's going to put it down the field. Well, I radically you were a take the shots. I used to hate when the Patriots played you. Because you and Flacco were the two that you just three step drop, just chuck it down the sideline and I'm always the most scared of that as a fan. As if I've gambled on the other team or if I'm a fan, I just feel like there's three outcomes. Basically incompletion, completion or past interference, right? And you saw Baltimore just for 5 years there with Flacco where they were just like, let's keep let's keep going. Let's keep putting the pressure on. And I absolutely hated it. I don't know why the Chargers don't do that with Herbert. To me, if I could change anything in the NFL this season would be like, just run that offensive program. Let them fling it. Yeah. They had a game plan going in, where they were going to attack the guy opposite or sir tan last night and through a couple deep ones on him where they got the PIs, but there can be more of it. There can be more of the quarterback at the line seeing one on one coverage and being able to take advantage because some of these receivers are so impressive and so skilled coming out of college now. In the last 5 to ten years, that's been the crazy thing for me too to watch how skilled some of these guys are coming into the NFL NFL ready because it's a tough position to do that in more and more guys are making that jump easier every year. Well, you had you played with Parker. He's going to be open by 5 yards. He wants to have contact go up in the air and bang off people and go get the ball. Well, and you think we did the bears game and we just started talking about Justin Fields and what he threw to in college. And he really his receiving corps worse than it was in college, no disrespect to the guys he's throwing to, but the one I forgot about. I think Jameson Williams was on that team as well. At some point. But Smith and Jake but who they're saying, you know, is better than a lave and better than Wilson. The guys he was throwing to and the guys, the talent he was throwing against, there's so much separation. And I saw that with tua when he first got to Miami, you take the receivers he had at Alabama and their competition level. And there's just a different, this guy is open in the NFL than there is in college. And I think what some of these quarterbacks are struggling with, the young ones, especially as they get to the NFL. So you just did that bears game. And they don't have a lot of talent, obviously. And I'm more on the side of. I don't know if fields ever makes it as like a top 15 guy because call me nuts, but I love accuracy and completions. It's one of my, one of my thanks for quarterbacks.

The marquee matchup in Kansas City saw the chiefs come up short against the Buffalo Bills 24 20 and a playoff rematch that could also be a playoff preview. The Baltimore Ravens lost by that same 24 20 score in New York to the now 5 in one giants they could be a part of that three way tie atop the NFC east should Dallas win tonight, Lamar Jackson had been 12 and O against NFC opponents until his late interception led to the big blue victory. So that is now three losses for the ravens in which they led by double digits. In the fourth quarter, they could be very easily be 6 and zero right now. "But if you are going to officiate Tom Brady in this fashion, and I understand that because he's 45 years old, he is fragile and brittle, like the rest of us 40 something year olds. And if he gets hurt, the bucks become utterly unwatchable, like for entertainment and enjoyment purposes for not only their fans, but anyone who watches football, it's just, it's a bad thing all around. However, if you're going to officiate Tom Brady this way, you also have to do it on the other side and basically play with the old 90s in the grasp rules where if a pass rusher gets two hands on him, that's it. You just got to blow a dead because if you're saying he can't, you know, you don't want him tackled, you don't want him thrown around or slammed to the ground and even the lightest manner. You also have to say, okay, well, we're just gonna blow it dead. Right. And I don't know. Minus a world where like maybe if Tom Brady becomes part owner of the dolphins, he goes to competition committee and then he passes a rule that he's not allowed to be tackled at all and that he just gets to continue playing quarterback for the rest of his days, which should represent kind of an interesting turn. In the NFL and where it's going and how many other quarterbacks do you give that to? Does Drew Brees unretire Dan Marino? I don't know. The possibilities are endless at that point. If the rule is in place where maybe you can't tackle someone who's older than 45, do you think that that would be kind of a fun rule, right? Yeah. You get, I don't want to make it too hand touch, but there's got to be some sort of technology where it's like, it's two hand touch technology. But there has to be a certain amount of force behind the touches for it to really count. Like it's not you can't really like tag them with your fingertips as you're running by, but you know, if you really like grasping, like that's it, blow it dead. Would there be any, so let's say that's the rule. You're not allowed to tackle anybody that's over older than 45. But then the 45 year old is not allowed to leave the pocket, right? Would that be the, and then in that case, or the 45 year old is not allowed to advance the ball beyond the place where they get it, right? So that way you can do some receivers and you can do some other stuff. Would there be any other 45 year old that you would want back in the NFL? With that? If you're saying you can't advance, see, I think I would disagree with that rule. I would shout you down at the competition committee meeting. 45. So you would allow a 48 year old Jeremy shockey to come back and you get him the ball in a tight end seam. And you're going to allow him to just continue moving the ball forward in this fictional scenario. But he's tackled. He's tackled if I'm well, I'm talking about my rule with the sensors, right? Okay. With the sensors that measure your grip. If you're saying just they can't be tackled like they can't be sacked either in any way. Yeah, that's a thing then. Boy, who would you get at that point? I'm trying to think who like really. Dan Marino's too old. Like ten years ago when Dan Marino, right? Yeah. Bring back like Dave Craig or something like that. I don't know why Dave Greg was Dave Craig. Accurate or something? He just played forever. Why not? Why not? Sure. Lions, patriots. Jared Goff against the Patriots. Man, this is a horror story. This was, yes, it was a Bailey zappy win in his first NFL start, and so good on him, but man, what another just annihilation of poor Jared Goff by a Bill Belichick and company here. This was this was a ton of defense, a ton of run game for the Patriots. Stylistically obviously that's how they want to win. And but man, what a bummer for the Lions. I can't believe they're one in four. I know, like this, they're the best one in four team I've ever seen. Yeah. They're the best, most well coached one in four team that I've ever come across. But yeah, this game stunk from the beginning for Jared Goff, he was first drive. He's trying to advance the ball out of he's trying to run the ball out of bounds and then just gets absolutely thrown into a Gatorade table and no one throws the flag and you're just like, oh God, this is gonna be a long night for him. It would be among the weirdest superpowers for Bill Belichick to just have towards the end of his career that he can just only kick the shit out of Jared Goff. That would be pretty cool, right? Just at the very end of this, it's just like he just comes alive for Jared Goff week to just torture this poor man who's just trying to put it together. Just trying to put some W's together. It's gonna be so weird when Belichick resigns and then takes like the Vikings defensive coordinator job. Just a torment Jared Goff again. But yeah, nice win for the Patriots here. Again, I don't think there's a whole lot to read off of Bailey's happy's performance here. The Lions also lost, I think it ended up being 5 defensive backs to injury in this game. They were just, they were, I think, Jared Goff took some reps at cornerback in the second half. They were just running out of players. This is a game that patriots should win handily. And they did 29 nothing. That's a blowout. Yeah. Sort of a regenerative performance for New England and I mean, I don't know what it means in the long term. But just good to see zappy out there slinging it, you know? I mean, does this change your perception about New England in any way, shape or form? I don't know. No. It would have been horrible if they lost. That's all I'll say. But yeah, obviously Bill bubble chick has Jared Goff's number and on top of that. Again, when you were just running out warm bodies in the defensive backfield in the NFL in 2022, you just can't compete at that point. True. Nice reminder, Stevenson game, too. Oh yeah, yep. Dolphins jets. So teddy Bridgewater, this was a bummer. I really wanted to see him operate this mic mcdaniel offense. I wanted to see what he could do here. He ends up getting hit on the first offensive snap for the dolphins. It was a safety, it was intentional grounding, but he does not come back. It was an elbow injury and an abundance of caution with a potential concussion. So Skylar Thompson goes in there. And yeah, you know, good on the jets. They took care of business here. The dolphins did stick around for a while, but in the end the jets just sort of separate themselves and they're sitting at three and two right now. Yeah, I mean, I think that so we'll address teddy Bridgewater first because, you know, I thought it was I don't know, I don't know what we should do, right? Because these are the moments where like, it's almost like the NFL orchestrates it where it's like, okay, you guys are gonna complain about the teddy the two a tongue I love a thing, which we had every right to complain about. And then it's like, okay, more than we're gonna make it like this for a week. And then everyone's gonna complain about it being the opposite way. Yeah. Our former boss Peter king had a quote from some anonymous executive in his column this morning saying that it was overreaction Sunday by the officials and in the concussion department. I mean, I think it's nuts that we're complaining about this. Personally, but I don't know what the right situation is there. You have to overreact after something happens like that to tu a tongue of a little. Like the guy was posturing on the field. His fingers couldn't move, you know? What's the alternative? Like, okay, yeah, you have one game where you have to watch. You can't watch teddy Bridgewater. I'm sorry, you know, that's too bad for you. These are human lives

Todd Bowles back with the team today for practice after missing yesterday's for personal reasons. Tom Brady also back practicing after missing yesterday due to some shoulder soreness. Tom was asked about said injury today. As a shoulder feeling after some rest yesterday. Good. Feels great. Thanks for asking. I'll be there Sunday. Report, let's get shifty involved here. Adam, let's go to Brady's former team. Mac Jones, miss Sunday's game with that ankle injury. Where does he stand going in a week 5 versus Detroit? Well, he was limited in practice today, which points to the fact that Bailey zappy, The Rookie fourth round pick, could be in position to start if Mac Jones can not make it back from a severely high ankle sprain that would sideline many players multiple weeks. We saw him limp off the field when he suffered the injury. The fact that he's been back at practice moving around is encouraging, but it still looks like it could be zappy on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, saints quarterback Jamie Winston also did not practice today for a second straight day. Which sets up the real possibility that Andy Dalton will be making his second straight start for the new Orleans Saints is Winston tries to recover from back ankle and other ailments and Daniel Jones has been moving around better practice even though he's nursing that sprained ankle, the Giants left today for London for the early game on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers and the fact that Jones has been moving around as well as he has is a sign that he is tracking to be able to start on Sunday against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Jones biggest strength is his mobility, interesting to see how that one plays out. Thanks to chef, he also for finding my wife's phone a week ago on a story for another time. Let's read a react to some stories around a league. The Giants opponent in London, Aaron Rodgers and the packers. Dan, how the packers integrated their young wide receiving core into the game plan. In the first month of the season, has been fascinating. Really, mainly Christian Watson and how they can kind of build off this moving forward. The impact that he can have utilizing his speed, maybe in a non traditional way, left side of your screen is going to come in that jet motion. Now pay attention to everybody defensively for the pets in the right side of the screen. They have vision on him because they know how fast he is. We hand the ball off. That linebacker, he's the one supposed to be filling the gap that Aaron Jones is about to burst through. Now a couple plays later, the packers realize you're paying attention to the run. Great, here we go. Now this time we're gonna have Watson coming. The trailing defender's gonna be in man coverage. Aaron Rodgers is gonna turn around and hand the ball off to him. Those linebackers just saw run so they're paying attention to it. They get hung inside, Dobbs box the trailing man defender, and that first player we saw Aaron Jones, they didn't block four defenders on the defense. This last play, Christian Watson scores, they don't block four defenders on the defense. So maybe allowing him to be utilized in a Devo Samuel type of role settles him in in a non traditional way and really built his confidence as this season gets going. That's what I want to pay attention to for this offense moving forward. A work in progress to be expected. Next up, raiders chiefs Monday night, the rivalry rolls on. Since Andy Reid took over in 2013, the chiefs rolled the Raiders. Owning a 15 and three record in the span in that matchup. Patrick Mahomes on the rivalry. You know it's gonna be a battle every single time. It's gonna be both teams trying to play their best football, it's a true robbery. We know that it doesn't matter what the records are. You're gonna go out there and play, it's gonna be a dog fight. And they had a great football team. I mean, their record, they don't have the best record, but every game they've been in the game or been leading the game at certain points. So we understand it's gonna be a great challenge for us. And especially Monday night at arrowhead, we wanna go out there and find a way to win. No Tyreke isn't no problem for this chief's offense. Keyshawn what do you see him? No problem. They're gonna roll the 16 and three. You mentioned 15 and three, it'll be 16 and three. Look, Patrick Mahomes and company Eric the enemy, they understand how to sprinkle the defense all over with these different receivers. It's not a one two punch anymore. It's not Travis Kelce, tyreek hill. It's everybody involved, including the running game. From a couple of Super Bowl winners in Rogers and mahomes to a QB making his first career start. Kenny Pickett, quite the gauntlet to start his career facing the bills, the bucks, the dolphins and the eagles over the next four ESPN's FPI gives the sealers just a 14% chance to win in Buffalo on Sunday. Marcus the fit is spicy. Give me some spicy analysis here. Do you like going up against a rookie quarterback? I don't Jordan, but prayers up for Kenny Pickett, listen, this is the land of unknown. And I've talked about this as tremendous amount on this show is that when you're still getting and trying to understand how a new quarterback, especially a young guy that can be athletic and hurt you outside of the pocket, how will this game play and be formulated? How will they play as far as explosive plays downfield? We saw Kenny Pickett take some chances and get his guys opportunities. That's been the talk of the town in Pittsburgh. We want more explosive plays. We've seen receivers, frustrated about how this offense has been maneuvering. Can it pick it is a mystery to this defense which may help him in the long run. There's two things that out of this Pittsburgh offense that is going to be beneficial. Number one, Kenny Pickett will hang in the pocket. He has no scar tissue, like mister Biscay. He doesn't care about getting hit from the rush. Those receivers got to make a little bit more plays down the field than they did for Mitchell trubisky. I think your outfit looks you look like a rotting pumpkin. We got into it. And you just wanted to get into autumn, like you went to the University of Texas or something. What happened? Where did that come from? I don't know. We have to go there. You look like a rotting pumpkin. Okay. Hey, say let's make it that kind of day. Say less. "Sorry you didn't get a pod on Saturday. I taped one, but when we went back and listened to it, it sounded like I was max headroom. It really distorted max headroom for those of you from the 80s. And so we had to scrap it. And unfortunately, I couldn't do it. So just to recap before we get to Monday's practice. I just want to touch on and sort of set the stage for Monday. I want to touch on Saturday's practice. Which I'm sure you've heard by now, that it was not good for the offense. You know, unfortunately, it was the first weekend practice for Saturday practice. That's normally a place is packed. People are going nuts. Everyone's cheering, every single play, because there aren't a good mood, but it was pretty silent, most of practice. Why? Because the offense was not good at all. Yes, there were a few plays here and there. But including both 7 on 7s and 11 on 11s, Mac Jones and Bailey zappy combined to go 19 of 42, Jones had a second interception in this many days. The offense lost their final goal line reps, both of them, of the incompletions. There were 7 pass breakups, 6 sacks, draws by hunter Henry Pierre, strong Devin osias, not good. When you go out to a training camp practice, pretty much the thing you want to see if you're looking for good offense is you don't want to see the ball hit the ground. You want it to be Chris, everybody catching the ball, good throws. But that was not the case. The ball was all over the place on the ground. It was sloppy. It was not good. But there was a big caveat with that. And I think it deserves mention. That, look, Saturday's practice was the fourth consecutive practice that weren't in pads where they're working on red zone stuff.

"Even if it's a monthlong injury, even if it's a 6 game injury. That if Bailey zappy could come in down the line and keep the Patriots above water for that month and then Matt comes back and now you're still in the playoff hunt because Bailey zappy went three and one or two and two and they didn't go zero and four without Matt Jones when he was sitting out. It's really unique for a young quarterback to be as aware of one through 53 as Mac Jones is. Right. And that's something that I think it stands out to him his maturity level in general is that he understands that everybody's got a role on the team and that everybody is important to the team in one way or another. And you heard some similar things in the past from Damien Harris as well. So I think this is an Alabama theater where Damien Harris understands that having Andre Stephenson on the team makes him better, even though you could look at it and say that ramonda Stevenson is his replacement at some point down the line. Iron sharpens iron competition is good, but also depth is good. And I think that they recognize that they have more wins in their back pocket and with zappy on the roster than if they didn't have those two guys on the roster. So it's an interesting situation. Obviously neither one of us is saying that Bailey zappy is going to make this a competition this summer and this is going to be a quarterback competition like we had last year with cam and Mac. But it's still an interesting pick nonetheless. And I think that it will be a very notable topic as we move forward to see how well he can do in training camp. We have seen between Stidham and Mac. We've seen some young quarterbacks recently in camp. So we know what the line is, right? Like we know what we know what looks good, what doesn't look good and those types of things with these younger quarterbacks. So we know how our eyes are calibrated to evaluate them a little bit better now because we've been through this a couple of times. So it'll be interesting to see what he looks like..

"Yep, absolutely. Yeah. I mean, you could coach his nitpick. That's their job. I nitpick when I watch because I learned a long time ago. You know, we're evaluating quarterbacks to win super bowls, not to go 9 and 8. You know, and I know coach Belichick's doing the same thing. They're not interested in going 9 and 8. So Matt Jones had an up and down year, more ups and downs. But I'm sure in their mind three years from now, they probably feel he'll be he can do more than he's doing now. But right now, they're running football team. That's where it starts. So I think the point you just made is a very valid one. Damien Harris could be gone. They might see Kevin Harris as a guy who can fill that role because when all said and done, Damian Harris didn't get 20 carries a game. There might have been a few games he did, but that wasn't the way they ran their offense on a weekly basis. For their second fourth round pick, the Patriots took quarterback Bailey's zappy. Yeah, I watched her Kentucky. Yeah, what's interesting is that I have a guy who does the draft stuff for me because I don't want to do the draft stuff in. And I asked him, I said, give me, give me a guy at quarterback that would develop for the Patriots, gave him the trace that the Patriots sort of look for. He said Bailey's happy. So what do you see out of Bailey's appy? You know, in an odd way, I kind of like belly's happy. I mean, I think you have to know what he is. I mean, he's 6 feet. You know, both at western Kentucky and where he was before that, which I think was Houston baptist. He ran a high volume passing game, a ton of scheme to manufactured one read or no read throws. But I thought he also showed the ability to work through progressions and make throws that demanded higher level timing. He certainly had unbelievable command of that offense. It's the same offensive ran in Houston baptist because the coach came from Houston baptist to western Kentucky. He was detailed. He was nuanced, the other issue though, which, you know, again, how do you want to deal with this when you evaluate a guy is because of the nature of the offense, Greg, there were a ton of just pitch and catch throws. Throwing it to open receivers who had free access off the ball. I mean, it was just pitching catch. So there's a lot of those kinds of throws. I kind of felt like you fell into the kind of colt McCoy chase Keenum, Tyler heinicke category, but if the Patriots seem as more than that, I could probably.

"Yeah, what if zappy is a stud? Well, then maybe the Patriots turned a 137th pick into a top 100 pick. That's what. And you know what? Absolute worst case scenario if he's a stud, and Mac Jones is it? Well, then you still have a stud quarterback. So it's only good news for Bailey zappy. I will admit I did not love the pick where they picked because I thought I won 37. There was still guys on the board that continued to the defense specifically. Like there was still a defensive player at that point of the draft that I thought could come in and help. But at the same time, I look at that 2016 QB room, even the 2017 QB room before they traded Jimmy G Brady, Jimmy G Jacobi preset might be one of the best QB rooms we've seen the last 20, 25 years in the NFL. That was as good as it gets from starter to back up to third string. And I think the Patriots would consistently like to build the same thing over and over again. And best case scenario, you have two really good quarterbacks and zappy becomes a trade asset. Worst case scenario Mac Jones isn't the guy or he gets hurt and then Bailey zappy is a good player and can come in and play for you. And it's like you said, it's car insurance, health insurance, like this is what you have these policies for in life. And I think it's similar with the Patriots. I didn't love where they picked them, but I can see why they picked him, right? You know what? I would be freaking out more if they picked Sam Howell. I really would. Because Sam Howell is not, they don't need to work with Bailey's appy. I think that's the value in that. Bailey's app is going to come in. They don't need a coach him up. He's pretty ready. He's not even a fit in this offense. But it's not even, it doesn't even work in this office. No, but I would say, like with zappy, I don't know how much they need to coach him up. I don't know how much room he has to grow, but they don't need to coach him up. He's going to come and it's going to be seamless. Like, who are the other top quarterbacks on the board like Sam Howell's a mess? Sam Howell is all the worst parts of Baker Mayfield?.

"Here's another pick that kind of rattled the cages because I think people were fine with Pierre strong again shifty different kind of running back they have Harris coming up on his contract. Bailey zappy at one 37, the quarterback. Your thoughts like to pick one of them to take a quarterback, both their backup quarterbacks are in contract years. I wanted, I asked our guy, Kevin field for a quarterback plugging in all the stuff I wanted. He came out with Bailey zappy, so he's the Patriots type of guy. I like the pick. I just don't like it doing in the fourth round. I don't know why Bill just continues to have an allergic reaction to picks in the 5th round. He hates picks in the 5th round. I understand that before, now with COVID factoring in and deep draft classes now and wide receivers, I think it's just ill cited. I think it's him being stuck in his ways. I think you take zappy in the 5th round, you take another pick here, then I feel different about it, but I like the player. I've heard people say, if you're going to draft the backup quarterback in the fourth round, then go for a high trade, strong armed guy. What? Everybody want, oh, he should have an elite skill. Listen, the Patriots have done that a lot and it hasn't worked. They've drafted a lot of quarterbacks in the mid to late rounds with Ryan Allen. Jesus. Yeah, Ryan mallet is the perfect example. Like I have no problem drafting a guy who's pretty much Mac Jones light. He's like Mac Jones, you know, QB two guy. He's got the same, he doesn't have as strong of an arm as Mac and Mac doesn't have an overly strong arm. But if you're going to bring somebody in as backup quarterback the next ten years, find a guy who plays like Mac Jones, find a guy who's smart, they did. I don't hate it at all. Kevin Harris at one 83 and running back. Yeah, I just, you know, I'm sure he's fine. I just didn't. These last picks is knock it out. I mean, Kevin Harris, I just don't like double dipping at running back. I didn't want to do that. I'd rather do something else. Sam Roberts, you know, we'll see. You can always use sort of interior pass rusher types. Jason Heinz, I like him at guard. I don't know why you need to go guard again after you just went guard in the first round. He reminds me of a wenu a bit, same round two where they were drafted. Same similar body type. Stuber, I can't find anybody who thinks he can play. I haven't watched him yet, but everybody doesn't think he's any good. But we'll see. When you get to like the 6th round, lotto ticket line ticket ticket. Kevin Harris, lotto ticket, was really good in the SEC before he got the back injury. I saw a lancer line say that if Harris was healthy in this draft, he would have been one of the top 6 to 8 running backs in the draft. So you take a lotto ticket on him. Sam Roberts, again, lotto ticket, great size. He's got some good measurements. Does it work? Who knows? Jason Heinz seems like he's the bell of the ball, so to speak with these late picks, he had some injury, but he's big. He's athletic. I agree with you. You know, you kind of see Shaq mason in his game. Pulls like a son of a bitch, yeah..

"Bet online where the game starts. Yeah, I don't have any problem with Bailey zappy in the fourth round. That's where he was supposed to go. That's where he was the best quarterback left on the board. But to me, Caleb Elle will be ended up going to the Seahawks as a UDF a. He didn't even get drafted. So the value that I see there with just picking up a guy like Caleb elbie in the 7th round or picking him up as a UDF a or something like that versus using a top one 40 pick on a quarterback, I don't know. They never address linebacker. They never got faster in the front 7 in this draft. I know that they're hoping camera grown and ray Kwan McMillan and the holdovers from last year will end up infusing that speed in that youth into that position. I get that. But I just felt like it wasn't where they needed to go at that point of the draft. I saw the value in the backup quarterback. I see the value in a guy like Bailey zappy. What I watched when I see him on tape, what I like about him is obviously the accuracy is there. 70% completion rate. You don't just complete 7% of your passes in a pretty good conference in the C USA without being accurate. But the timing and the rhythm and the anticipation that he puts on the ball and the touch that he puts on the ball is that's patriot like, right? Like there's a lot of throws on his tape. I pulled one and I put it in my post where it's actually an RPO, but they pull the guard in a power RPO concept. The football and he throws it with anticipation on the other side of the linebacker and hits his receiver and stride for a big play. Like those are the types of throws that he makes that you say, okay, that's very patriot like..
