Prom at the Polls - Young Voters Taking Charge

"Thanks for being here. So so be tell us about promised the polls, what it's all about and what promised polls doing in the weeks leading up to the elect show prometheus polls is a youth led civic engagement event meant to take back twenty twenty, and we're doing this through a series of social media challenges and different fund ways for young people and adults to get involved and make the voting process. Exciting. We lost our promise graduation. We lost so many things due to the pandemic and we're GONNA, take that back with prompt the polls we are creating excitement around voting through the challenge. Hashtag proposals and Hashtag address up to vote. Those are the two main things that we're working on now and all the way up until the election. So the first one we're using the HASHTAG proposals is challenging someone to go to the polls if you or to vote by mail with you, and we're doing this to create a big wave of youth voters and to get so many more people engaged to wouldn't have before. So if I challenged my friend to vote and they vote with made than they challenged someone else I'm reaching so many more people than if I just voted alone so. You may ask what is a puzzle so a proposal similarly to proposals in highschool for problems or forms it is asking someone to go out with you. So in our case, we're asking people to come with us to the polls or to just vote with us from the comfort of our own home. The other aspect of this is dressing up to vote. So we're using the HASHTAG dress up to vote, and if you participate in any of these challenges, which we really encourage you all to do make sure to use the Hashtag online. So we can spread the word and share the. Content that you're creating but dress up to vote is exactly what it sounds like. It's putting on prom or formal attire and either going to the polling place or walking to your mailbox or going to a dropbox to cast your ballot. But making sure that you're voting in style and just making voting fun and exciting for everyone and up until the election will be participating and we have some really interesting people and Super Cool influencers who are participating, but it really comes down to the youth and the population participating everyday people getting out getting excited about voting and participating in these different challenges. Tell us a bit about how promised the poll started promised. The polls began when you actually introduced the five of us and put us in kind of a think tank room and we all are really passionate about getting out the youth vote and making sure that every young person in this country knows that their vote matters and that their voice matters and we wanted to come up with a fun and creative way to inspire young people to go to the polls to vote and make their voice heard on election day. Nicole Brown celebrities are really stepping forward. So just one quick word of encouragement. Please encourage other folks to get involved in their platforms the way you are. I WANNA say that first of all is not lost there is still time there's eighteen days as a young man named Jerome, Foster, the second who created prompt the polls. That's the thing we joked about at the beginning he's trying to encourage young people to enjoy their senior year at the polls. So find somebody you WANNA, take to the polls and and shout them out and shoot your shot, and then just encourage people to find different interesting Korean of ways to go and make a different voice matters use it out of the first meeting after you connected us we came up with this idea and ever since then have been meeting daily to pull it off and make it happen. Where can people find out more information? We have a website promised the polls, dot com but most of our information at all of our content is on all of our social media platform. So twitter instagram tech, pock facebook you can go there and we'll be posting some super cool content from now until election day on the various platforms and you can find more ways to get involved. They're amazing. And Matthew. What do you think is the goal for promised the polls what do you hope that promised the polls will accomplish I. Think we succeeded if we have even just one person vote in planning on voting before obviously the goal is a lot bigger than that. But at the end of the day when we sit out to start the prompted the Bulls project, you said to results what do We want to accomplish how do we WANNA help and how do we think the country needs to change and one of the big things that we talked about that the vote isn't being considered enough is being cared about enough and there's people in the country in our generation that are voting. So we thought let's take that opportunity. Let's take that situation and make it something fun. Make it something. that. They can enjoy but also make it something that they're going to participate in for the next. However many years they want to see you know really at the end of the day the goal is if we get as many people voting as possible that haven't voted before as many people involved in the political process that weren't involved before and there's many people interested that weren't interested before we've succeeded.

Really Slow (MM #3473)

"The Maisonette with Kevin Nation. I've noticed lately that our internet seems to be really slow now. It's a relative term of course because really slow is not be true. I started back on the internet when you'd literally open up a web site and then go walk away for twenty minutes waiting it to upload the pictures now thanks to high-speed internet. It's not the same. It's not really slow. But it is you want it to be in ten years now, and now that we have the technology it should be instantaneous. But of course, it's not now. The reason our Internet is slow has a lot to do with well the fact that both my wife and I are working now on the internet at home and during the day I didn't have to worry about my wife when she was working from the office. She's on the internet all time. It's what she does for a living. She's got constant teams calls and zoom calls things like that takes up bandwidth and therefore the bandwidth I was using all for myself before is now being shared amongst two or three computers. I just wage number back twenty twenty-five years ago when the internet really was slowed when the internet first started out and I'll spoiled we've gotten yes. I realized we've come to expect things that are instantaneous, but every now and then I have to pause whether I want to or not dead.

Hong Kong police arrest 360 as thousands protest over security laws

"Hong Hong Kong Kong distance distance planned planned a a massive massive March March in in Hong Hong Kong Kong today today but but they they were were faced faced with with a a formidable formidable array array of of armed armed police police and and were were forced forced to to spread spread out out around around the the city city as as police police arrested arrested over over three three hundred hundred here here for for an an assessment assessment of of the the tensions tensions in in Hong Hong Kong Kong is is M. M. Taylor Taylor Preval Preval he he is is director director of of the the MIT MIT security security studies studies program program so so welcome welcome it's it's great great to to have have you you with with us us give give us us your your sense sense did did basically basically China China win win this this one one today today I I don't don't think think I I don't don't want want this this one one today today I I mean mean the the protests protests have have been been going going on on for for a a very very long long period period of of time time and and this this is is just just one one one one battler battler but but it's it's a a much much longer longer our our war war in in Hong Hong Kong Kong for for for for greater greater independence independence from from China China what what was was the the response response from from the the police police from from the the authorities authorities much much more more forceful forceful than than we've we've seen seen in in the the past past because because they they they they were were trying trying to to get get to to let's let's go go as as a a threat threat finance finance religion religion council council and and anywhere anywhere near near it it right right no no but but but but but but there's there's been been I I mean mean do do these these protests protests have have literally literally been been going going on on for for almost almost a a year year right right and and and and so so today today yes yes perhaps perhaps the the protesters protesters didn't didn't get get to to where where they they wanted wanted to to go go but but in in some some ways ways because because you you are are talking talking about about her her I I think think the the protest protest on on back back right right I I mean mean it it is is very very clear clear that that the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong are are upset upset with with the the new new legislation legislation proposed proposed in in Beijing Beijing and and they're they're taking taking to to the the streets streets again again even even though though the the virus virus situation situation Hong Hong Kong Kong perhaps perhaps without without fully fully eats eats them them and and that that to to me me I I think think is is almost almost more more important important than than sort sort of of what what happened happened in in in in in in in in in in for for today's today's round round right right and and insist insist it's it's round round after after round round after after his his vision vision care care about about with with the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong upset upset me me what what real real effect effect does does it it have have on on the the vital vital interests interests of of China China itself itself well well I I mean mean for for for for Beijing Beijing right right Bayview Bayview Hong Hong Kong Kong and and and and the the protests protests over over the the last last year year to to the the land land of of opportunity opportunity right right and and then then when when when when Britain Britain I I reverted reverted to to Hong Hong Kong Kong in in in in Britain Britain and and a a training training issue issue in in Hong Hong Kong Kong diversion diversion which which took took place place in in nineteen nineteen ninety ninety seven seven but but it it was was under under this this rubric rubric of of one one country country two two systems systems in in the the one one country country was was tryna tryna therefore therefore Hong Hong Kong Kong was was a a part part of of I I tried tried it it but but there there be be two two systems systems of of governance governance and and within within that that Hong Hong Kong Kong would would enjoy enjoy a a substantial substantial amount amount of of talking talking and and the the protests protests that that have have been been happening happening it's it's in in the the last last year year for for responding responding to to efforts efforts by by I I bet bet you you can can basically basically took took a a certain certain greater greater control control over over a a dead dead inside inside Hong Hong Kong Kong kind kind of of squeezing squeezing that that economy economy so so from from Beijing's Beijing's perspective perspective there there were were writing writing in in my my furnace furnace and and in in my my system system they they over over exaggerate exaggerate the the fact fact that that sort sort of of any any kind kind of of true true independence independence movement movement Hong Hong Kong Kong or or the the fact fact that that might might succeed succeed in in the the main main event event at at the the symbology symbology here here is is important important and and clearly clearly the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong are are kind kind of of standing standing up up to to China China and and and and that that of of course course kind kind of of adaptations adaptations for for other other US US sovereignty sovereignty disputes disputes involving involving China China including including Taiwan Taiwan also also has has implications implications for for domestic domestic politics politics what what is is left left at at this this point point in in your your assessment assessment of of the the two two systems systems as as part part of of the the one one country country two two systems systems some some of of the the United United States States a a look look at at it's it's basically basically gone gone but but is is that that an an exact exact I I think think that that overstates overstates the the situation situation but but clearly clearly I've I've China China has has on on one one level level right right the the national national security security level level are are much much more more forcefully forcefully asserted asserted itself itself it it hasn't hasn't moved moved out out to to sort sort of of take take down down everything everything else else that that makes makes the the Hong Hong Kong Kong what what it it is is today today and and what what makes makes the the system system also also different different from from that that in in the the mail mail about about it it certainly certainly if if adding adding an an extra extra layer layer of of screaming screaming in in actual actual air air pressure pressure also also it it sort sort of of has has been been backsliding backsliding on on on on efforts efforts to to serve serve allow allow other other people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong greater greater autonomy autonomy and and how how did did she she shoot shoot their their chief chief executive executive so so I I think think some some thought thought that that over over the the course course of of time time through through Hong Hong Kong Kong economy economy I I was was going going to to wake wake our our hotline hotline didn't didn't get get it it in in the the agreement agreement that that led led to to Hong Hong Kong Kong reversion reversion to to the the mainland mainland and and and and as as basically basically have have stopped stopped at at the the I I try try to to sort sort of of saying saying look look how how how how you you can can pass pass through through a a town town in in the the but but you you can't can't have have maybe maybe what what you you thought thought you're you're going going to to have have the the and and we we Beijing Beijing and and I I have have the the final final say say on on how how the the territories territories governed governed so so that that it it does does not not impinge impinge upon upon how how the the departing departing Beijing Beijing views views are are kind kind of of sovereignty sovereignty it's it's not not just just the the people people of of Hong Hong Kong Kong were were upset upset about about the the developments developments with with a a fair fair number number of of people people in in Washington Washington both both Republicans Republicans and and Democrats Democrats I I should should say say who who were were also also in in sync sync some some genuine genuine concerns concerns including including today today with with sector sector prepares prepares saying saying he he will will not not certify certify that that Hong Hong Kong Kong is is autonomous autonomous which which as as I I understand understand it it puts puts a a question question it's it's trade trade treatment treatment by by the the United United States States does does that that put put pressure pressure on on Beijing Beijing it it feels feels like like it it hurts hurts Hong Hong Kong Kong more more than than it it does does Beijing Beijing I I think think ultimately ultimately it it will will hurt hurt Hong Hong Kong Kong more more than than hurt hurt gained gained attention attention because because Beijing Beijing views views this this through through the the land land sovereignty sovereignty much much more more than than through through the the lens lens of of finance finance and and economics economics think think back back twenty twenty or or thirty thirty years years ago ago Hong Hong Kong Kong was was greater greater China's China's financial financial sector sector right right it it was was it it was was sort sort of of the the engine engine of of of of a a kind kind of of coastal coastal economy economy would would be be under under close close he he played played an an enormous enormous role role in in China's China's opening opening reform reform but but now now try try as as much much wealthier wealthier too too much much stronger stronger and and then then many many people people try try to to talk talk about about how how they'd they'd like like to to see see John John hi hi I I play play the the role role that that Hong Hong Kong Kong once once before before and and so so it it just just pushes pushes out out more more companies companies into into trying trying to to intentionally intentionally high high I I don't don't think think Beijing Beijing will will necessarily necessarily be be that that it it is is active active if if of of course course some some businesses businesses may may choose choose to to go go alternate alternate and and and and and and and and I I think think you're you're asking asking the the board board to to the the greatest greatest beneficiary beneficiary that that regard regard it it was was this this in in some some sense sense is is inevitable inevitable that that would would happen happen or or his his timing timing something something important important here here well well the the word word is is world world is is consumed consumed of of attack attack Pendek Pendek does does that that give give president president G. G. and and division division and and opportunity opportunity I I don't don't think think it it does does my my view view is is that that the the situation situation Hong Hong Kong Kong has has been been deteriorating deteriorating for for the the last last six six years years or or so so the the last last twelve twelve months months right right with with the the practice practice that that we we talked talked about about at at the the start start of of the the segment segment it's it's it's it's been been quite quite intense intense and and from from Beijing's Beijing's perspective perspective the the government government Hong Hong Kong Kong is is unable unable right right basically basically I've I've I've I've bring bring those those protests protests to to land land and and return return stability stability to to the the territory territory and and so so many many of of us us who who who who watched watched the the situation situation how how come come thought thought that that China China would would do do something something and and they'll they'll probably probably do do something something this this spring spring especially especially after after one one third third of of the the coronavirus coronavirus situation situation began began to to ease ease I'm I'm not not sure sure hi hi everyone everyone myself myself included included necessarily necessarily predicted predicted the the National National Security Security wallaby wallaby the the format format the the actual actual tape tape but but but but that that China China is is taking taking action action to to defend defend what what I I believe believe that that if if interested interested call call call call I I don't don't think think I I should should be be surprising surprising and and I I I I don't don't think think it's it's an an effort effort to to take take advantage advantage of of the the server server the the world's world's distraction distraction moreover moreover if if you you look look at at U. U. S. S. Most people are going to do that what about vegetarian they can be creating deficient. Exactly when I have a vegetarian that comes in here and their energy deficient. They don't feel the way they wanna feel and I put him on ever strong. They noticed benefits almost right away because they've been so low on a person out there that stay. Playing sports golf tennis anything like, that it, keeps your muscles powered up in their, high energy state so they're strong and ready for. Action now Pat here's, the key this is so important for those, of us in, our fifty sixty s seventy s you see, we had lots and lots of creating when. We were young we had this stuff it was coming. Out of our ears. We had lots of creating our bodies made a lot of it but as we get older like everything else we don't do? That. Is. Well we have less creating in our muscles now the good news is that hundreds and, hundreds of human studies show that when you supplement with, creating a goes to work I go straight to your muscles absorbed easily it. Pumps up at the Korea team in your muscle. Tissue and you get stronger you get more powerful not only, that, it helps support member And brain health and it helps support the strength of your bones you know we were talking. "That there would be safety in numbers and that you know the women and children would walk in the middle and the men would be around the outside you know kind of like the pioneers headed west in covered wagons or something like that there are some who say that's not really what has happened that these that the smugglers infiltrate these large groups and start trying to peel people off and kidnap them and often there are assaults sexual assaults and and people get ripped off and harmed and in in in very cruel and and upsetting ways and that you know that that they think that this is kind of a sham this group is open borders group that's organizing it and what's wrong is that they are encouraging people to join this and telling them that they're going to get into the united states when the more likely scenario is that they're either mexico is going to send them home or it's such a large group gets to the us border i don't think that the trump administration is just gonna go okay come on in seven hundred thousand individual cases pending an immigration courts and that means that once you set foot into american territory the democratic party and others will provide you legal counsel and and so begins the process of quote a credible fear of persecution which means that if you're from nicaragua and you're in america and a lawyer is present paid for by the democratic party or other leftwing groups you get in the process of the immigration courts and then you don't show up for hearings and this thing is continuing ad infinitum and i guess jessica as a normal god fearing american i know that if we don't get control of our borders we're not gonna have a country and in ten fifteen twenty years there's gonna be no border whatsoever and i do know that the trump presidency is the best chance we've ever had to break the back of illegal alien migration from third world poverty driven countries into america and the democrat party is running out the clock on the trump administration whether it's to muller investigation or just politics swinging back twenty twenty or twenty twenty four we're going to elect again a barack hussein obama or clinton that's going to throw the borders wide open and so i think this is the.

"Thank you so much for taking time out we'll chat with you soon thank you all righty take care that's an interesting case here because this is something that's been in place since nineteen sixty five it wasn't done in two thousand and ten so now you're looking to twenty twenty and i know it is a law that you have to be a citizen in order to vote saif there's a lot of balls being juggled here there's certain i thought there was like state said yes sir even local elections yeah yes so they will election state and federal you need to be a citizen technically local elections you do not could be obviously painted differently show it's it's it's interesting in that sense that i think people who wait the time and go through the process of being a citizen that's one of the things one of the reasons they want to become a citizen the right vote i remember my grandparents came from italy and they went through the process this is back in the nineteen nineteen they came here and then they were able to vote in that was something they were very proud of so there was a process i think you would want to keep that in place and then the person that goes through that process gets the vote someone who doesn't go through that process doesn't have the right to vote it is a right but it's a right for citizens as except in the local elections so it's it's just one of those things where i think the democrats sometimes hurt themselves because if this is something that's been in place for for decades and we've heard all the state of the unions from president clinton talking about immigration back twenty twenty five years ago he wasn't exactly welcoming he he wanted a pep things in place both parties have been trying to get this situation under control it's just the president has a way of of not being able to articulate himself very well that all that's really what where he's hurt i mean but in some ways that was his appeal to a lot of people is that he wasn't articulating south he was just talking like a regular person and that kind of was something that.
