Not play but There was a piano in our living room and they were like well. I guess we put. We put our kids to lessons right. And that's when it started toes about seven or eight and I had a wonderful teacher right off the bat Dorothy kill gays. She was wonderful. She has wonderful And one of the things creatively. Since this is a creative creativity. Subject but creatively she. She encouraged her students to every year. She would have a composition sort of contest. And.

Happy now pets bring us an immeasurable amount of joy but when we lose them it creates a tremendous amount of grief so this week as we honor national dog day on august twenty sixth and grief awareness day. On august thirtieth. We're looking at the complicated journey of pet loss. I'm your host paula phelps. And this week. I'm joined by britney darren bacher who's here to talk to us about how we can work through the stages of grief as it pertains to pet loss and the important role that gratitude plays in helping us. He'll well britney welcome to live. Happy now thank you so much for having me. I'm really excited to have you on the show and we will say in the interest of full disclosure upfront. I became familiar with you a few years ago. Through your work with a rescue. Let's start out by you telling me about your special needs rescue. And i not my heart because i actually adopted a dog from you but to tell us first about this rescue because i feel like this really does play into what we're gonna talk about later right. So our rescue is luna. Guzman bows and it started in two thousand sixteen. My husband and i started it. It is in partnership with a five. Oh one c. Three rescue in kentucky called the boston terrier rescue of east tennessee and kentucky. And so i was fostering for them for a couple of years and ended up with a cleft palate upbeat. And you know. I feel get taught me a lot about what love and care that i could give to an animal and so our relationship with her really kind of solidified that we wanted to start a special needs rescue and she passed away to other complications. That came along with a cleft palate. So we started luna bells in her memory. And it really kinda took off from there you know like we had dogs with hydrocephalus. Dogs with congenital heart problems with dementia in animal cruelty cases. We've taken a lot of breeder dogs. You ended up with one of them did. Yeah so you know. It's not just Special needs it can be behavioral to be a dog that just simply needs a little tlc. But yeah i mean. I really feel like it's grown. Since we started it in two thousand sixteen in it's kind of created like a really beautiful in awesome community of people liking Thank you and thank you for letting me be part of that. And and one component of it the work that you do is so heart wrenching because on one hand there's a lot of joy and we celebrate. We see these little cups that you get in or sometimes not just pups and and we see the dogs.

Also have a specialist there that can talk about it. We have a full line of farm all sitting out here on the lot and also some hand forage equipment here so you know it's been a great show so far. I really hope everybody can get out to. The case is booze and check us out now. obviously year. And everything else going on. Are you hearing any different concerns from farmers of maybe they're looking for a certain piece of equipment more than another thing or maybe looking for something new. I don't do you ever get like that here. show l. absolutely you know year culture. It's different i mean. We don't always have the perfect conditions perfect soil preparation and the perfect stands so we with meeting the ground in the bank to they need to have. I mean that's the most important thing that we do with ages new understanding what the farmers needs are.

And that's interesting that there's like the curbside delivery and or or just delivery general and. I think that's kind of important even for how you know. Our economy like to keep some of these smaller food restaurants in business. Like if you do WANNA eat out. Patronize those people and do the curbside delivery. You don't have to go in and in many cases you can't go in now but this is obviously going to affect our economy with a lot of people Being out of work for a while. Anyway you can support. Don't Cook at home so you know. That's a reasonable option as of now as of today At least you know Information I get like from Harvard Health. That says That it's really really unlikely. And you know okay okay go for the basic raw ingredients okay and is it and you mentioned kind of washing when you get home you wash your food so is that that's like something critical to keep up at this point. Wash your food that is washable. And then when they cook everything. Fruits and vegetables definitely There are some that you can wash ahead of time as long as they dry but things that hold moisture like berries or mushrooms but you only want to wash those right before you use them so they don't right there and get you know molding and funny So I'm sorry Then what you do need to cook well as always Things that are generally perishable like you know meats and eggs and those things you need to cook to an internal temperature of one hundred and sixty five Fahrenheit just on average. I know some of the ranges. Oh one forty-five to you know when sixty and then of course you need to boil pasta bake potatoes those kinds of things that have to be cooked to be out all right like basically at this point in time like don't start getting interesting with like how you're going to consume a potatoes take a giant bite out of it like maybe cook it.
