"Please act on that because only when we are open to conversion to real change, do we know that we've really welcomed the word? And it strikes me too, Anthony and just how beautifully you conveyed the teaching of saint Benedict on this that as you begin to really enter into this desire that God's place in your heart to deepen your prayer to walk with that particular saint. And until the next time is to spend time and listen and just ponder with holy father, saint Benedict at your side is he is going to introduce us to many of his spiritual children. Excellent. And I think the advice you're giving is very good. I also hope to make available to the people who are listening to these recordings. Somehow a bibliography, and maybe we can work out a way to post this bibliography so that if you wanted to actually buy a work with the saints writings in it, read along after a lecture or before a lecture you would have the ability to do that. In closing, what would be the one thing you would tell the student? Do not be afraid to open wide. The door of your heart to Christ. Beautiful, Anthony, thank you so much. Thank you, Chris. The more good ratings and reviews we get, the higher our profile and the more listeners will discover us, listeners who may have the means to contribute in the future. Please consider raiding us in writing a positive review today. We now return to beginning to pray. With doctor Anthony Willis. And how wonderful that you would begin this by going to the one who talked so much about listening, as a matter of fact, part of the holy role of this wonderful saint is that it calls you first to listen. Yes, the rule of saint Benedict by actually begins I believe with the words listen O my son to a master's instruction. The word to listen is related not just, well, it's related to obedience, it will be. This isn't like an external observance of rituals, although one finds the rule of saint Benedict many external things that you're expected to do as part of your way of life. So it's not like you neglect the external. It's just that the external it doesn't exhaust what our obedience is all about, our obedience is an obedience of the heart and obedience that attends to God that welcomes God that is ready for God in all things, and all the external parts of the rule are ordered so that we can have that listening of the heart so that we can always be ready to welcome the word who speaks to us in many and beautiful ways if we make space for him in our lives. And with this then, there are kind of four concepts that Benedict teaches so that we learn how to listen to God and in the series as it moves forward, develop these different concepts as we find them in the writings of different saints and mystics and so let me give these four to you and actually find all four referred to in paragraph 58 of the rule of saint Benedict. How to receive new monks in Azure read there you will find these ideas referred to. They're not referred to it and kind of an outline and fashion a, B, C and D, you kind of got to carefully read the text to find these phrases, but they're there, nonetheless, especially when referred to the Latin, so that if you want to find yourself, you can look through, but the first concept that kind of goes with listening to God or obedience, in order to be obedient, you need to be searching for God, your heart needs to be looking for him. You want to find him in the rule of saint vinnic the whole rule is written for those who are on a search for God. And so in Latin we call that the search for God. We're going to see that each of the scenes we look for the search for God is deep and alive in their life of faith. Again, that third part of faith, that part which seeks friendship with God. This is what's more motivating and driving them and it's as they pursue this in their lives. This is what their wisdom comes out of. And the second concept that is very, very important in order to search for God you need to be able to listen to him, listening to God, in particular, has a certain mode in the Christian tradition, and we call it Lexi davina. You've heard of Lexie, devina, I have an echo Chris. I've heard it referred to as just kind of chewing a remunerating on the word. Oh, that's very good. That's a beautiful way to look at it. You will actually find that and some one in the first couple versus there. You'll see that the just man is the man who gnaws on or they seem English murmurs, but the actual Hebrew is gnaws on the law of the lord day and night, and so that lexia divina predates saint Benedict, it's something that the early Christians is an approach to scripture that the early Christians had, where they read and reread and reread and reread again. A day a lot of people refer to Lexi to vina has a technique for contemplation. While it's true that there are thinkers in our tradition who approach it is a kind of technique I'm thinking right now of guizot, the carthusian wrote the latter of contemplation and in it he explains Lexi davina has a technique for entering into contemplative prayer, the kind of prayer where we behold God with the eye of our heart, it tends to them with the ears of our hearts. While he does write that, he's writing out of a tradition that doesn't see lexia to vina principally as a technique, but has a whole way of life. It's a way of life in which we're listening to the word the word who is communicated to us not only through the beauty of sacred scripture itself, but also through the first word that has ever been spoken to us, the word of creation, and then the word revealed to us in Christ, which remains with us, the word that we have communion with that we eat when we go to mass. We consume Jesus, the word in the holy eucharist, and that word is transformative. And so this lectio divina, the secret reading, is an attending to over and over a meditation of the heart over and over on what God is disclosed about himself. And this requires a whole way of life ordered to this is a saint Benedict will say that the brothers need to have the rule read to them over and over and over again. They need to involve themselves in this lecture to Venus so that they can receive the word into their heart, you might ask, where is he leading them to? What he wants them to do so that they can find God there on a search for God, and they're studying the word. And so that they can be able to be faithful to the word you might ask yourself and you ask this earlier. How do you know that you've actually received the word in your heart? How do you know that the word that the word that you have received into your heart is actually from God? And this is, again, the wisdom of the saints help us see it. How do we know their wisdom will help us see it because they lived converted lives and those who engage in lexia, divina, and their search for God and live a life kind of ordered around that, day two will live a conversion of life. And so the next concept is converse in it's actually a vow that the benedictines would make. So before the vows of poverty chastity and obedience, there was this vow that they vowed stability, they vowed obedience. But they also vowed conversatio. That gets translated as conversion of life, but it actually means more. Is a lot like our word conversation, isn't it? And so conversatio more room, more room means one's whole way of life, one's whole manner of living, and CSU engage in alexio divina, sacred reading of the word of God, as you search for God through the ways he's communicating to you. As you make space in your life for that purpose, one of the things that begins to happen is the gospel of Christ begins to challenge you in all aspects of your living. Because the gospel is so powerful, it always elicits a deeper and deeper conversion when we're not converting when we're stagnating means that we're not really engaged in Alexia. We're not really studying the word. We're not opening our heart to the word of God, and if we don't do that, we can't find God. The benedictines would make a thou of conversion because they wanted to put their whole life in conversation with the gospel of Christ so that everything in their life was submitted to him every thought, every imagination, every feeling, every passion, every habit, every aspect of their life would belong to Christ. And

"From Bloomberg's European headquarters in London, I'm Tom Mackenzie with this Bloomberg radio business flash. We are close to two hours an hour and 47 minutes into the trading day here in Europe. If you'd asked me an hour ago of how things were shaping up, there wouldn't have been a great deal to write at home about in terms of these markets, but now you have a lot of action, particularly in at the FX space, the currency space, I'll get to that shortly, but across your benchmark in Europe, you are now seeing losses of four tenths of a percent the losses most pronounced here in the UK, the FTSE 100 down 1% down 74 points. Every other major index also lower here in Europe, the futures in the U.S., the S&P E mini pony lower by 5 cents of a percent NASDAQ futures money led by 6 tenths of a percent. Let's get to those FX moves in and you'll see a pronounced move particularly in the pair that is the Euro dollar. Currently at one O three, that's a move lower by 1% close to a two decade low for the single currency, dollar is up, the Bloomberg dollar index up 5 tenths of a percent. It appears that investors are starting to reassess the ability of the ECB to hike and tighten monetary policy and of course that divergence with the Federal Reserve, putting pressure it seems on the Euro dollar currently one O three, as I said, that debate continues about whether or not you get to parity and in what kind of time frame for that cross the pound at one 20 down by 5 tenths of a percent for Sterling, and when it comes to the bond space twos 5s and tens, you're seeing twos at two 85 in the U.S., up by two basis points, the move had been more pronounced at the early part of the session. Now, starting to ease off in terms of the money out of U.S. sovereign debt, your U.S. ten year at two 88, not a lot of movement right now, but of course it comfortably below that 3% level when it comes to BTP's three 17 yields higher by 6 basis

"It is 9 30 a.m. in London ten 30 a.m. in Berlin I'm Tom McKenzie And I'm Caroline necker We'll be talking about the politics in the UK in a moment with Bloomberg's toys Raphael And with the politics you're focusing on the BOE on Thursday you've got the RBA first and the Bank of England and the ECB on Thursday currently by the way Sterling at one 34 It hasn't really moved a lot yet to date and we were talking to Marcus ashworth about whether or not the markets are getting ahead of their skis in terms of pricing in those rate hikes from the Bank of England currently there's an 80% chance according to the Bloomberg survey of a hike to 50 basis points on Thursday Your markets here across the benchmark you're seeing gains holding up above 1% of the European stock 600 The outsized performance is coming from Italy the FTSE mip at 1.4% political stability in that country after the prime minister Mario Draghi stays on presumably And Mattel the president gets another term In terms of your currencies you're looking at the Euro one 11 So upside of almost two tenths of a percent largely down to the softness in the dollar the Bloomberg dollar index down two tenths of a percent in your year space not a lot of action across the treasury space at one 77 for your U.S. ten year The two year is up three basis points at one 19 So just below that one 20 level And there is a bit of spread compression between the BTP's the Italian BTP and German bonds again reflecting that reduced risk of political risk within Germany oil remains above $90 a barrel on Brent $87 for WTI Your crypto and Bitcoin is at $37,000 just down 1.6% but of course up from the levels that we saw last week with the crypto space presumably or previously under pressure And in terms of what is happening elsewhere you're looking at as well The German bund currently closing in to positive territory It's not quite there yet but there's a little bit of upside a little bit of buying into those little bit of yield upside I should say for German but that is the state play across your markets an hour and a half into the European training day this Monday Yeah well in 30 minutes time hail onto Davey digital radar you're going to hear Bloomberg surveillance The early edition with Matt Miller Kelly lions and Anna Edwards So let's hop over to New York then Matt Miller's there waiting for us good morning Matt what's ahead for you on your program Actually stocks in Europe are doing pretty well Yeah and we are obviously going to be watching the markets very closely I'm using the SE G function on the Bloomberg A lot today It shows you seasonality and it's interesting to use if you're watching gold if you're watching oil especially helpful for commodities But for equity indexes as well you can see which have been the best and worth months Of course it is the Chinese New Year Tomorrow begins I believe the year of the Tiger And Eddie van der vault joins us to talk about what that means for gold because typically you see a sell off in the months of February and March you also see a lot more positive correlation with rates in the U.S. dollar when it comes to the gold price And I'll ask if we can apply that to oil as well because we're hitting it looks like it's going to be the best month in decades for oil not just for Brent but for nymex WTI as well It would be great to talk to him We're going to go down to francine loquat in Rome to talk about that political stability the team hack mentioned I always chuckle a little bit when someone says political stability in Italy in the same sentence but it looks like we're getting a little bit of that Plus we have Charlotte island joining us CCLA investment management co head of investments as Goldman Sachs says could be 5 rate hikes this year Rafael bostic tells the FT 50 basis points as possible but of course he's going to say that right He's not going to say no let me tie one of my hands behind my back Yes optionality is on the table for the fed at every meeting He tells the FT So we'll talk about that And we're going to talk about what's going on in Russia The Pentagon says even more troops were amassed on the Ukrainian border over the weekend Elizabeth bra joins us American enterprise institute resident fellow to talk about the geopolitical tensions that have really caused some market volatility Yeah absolutely That UN Security Council meeting today also and then the UK really following the U.S. hard in terms of the Ukraine line extra sanctions the discussions between bojo and the Russian leader this week Lots to think about on that story Matt thanks so much Hope you have a good program Been a big survey this earlier edition is up next or London DAB digital radio for our U.S. listeners Also you can listen to Matt and Paul Sweeney They host Bloomberg markets 10 a.m. Eastern Time Okay let's get some more on today's top stories with Bloomberg's Hannah Jordan.

"You don't have that free movement anymore You actually know already ahead of where they work pre COVID Euro will be there in Q one It's time for humanity to grow up and understand who we are and what we're doing Bloomberg daybreak Europe on Bloomberg radio And a very good morning from London I'm Caroline hat Kim And I'm Tom McKenzie you're listening to daybreak Europe life on London deep AB digital radio So as expected European markets tumbled at the start of European trading they're currently down by 1.1% so after three days of record highs now you see that pullback following Wall Street Yes markets some market participants at least pricing in the first rate hike by the fed in March We were speaking to a guest from licks or asset management earlier She said she's actually less focused on that and more focus on the fact they came out in and suggested that the balance sheet runoff for the fed $8 trillion of it will start to be in focus for FMC officials early than it would have been in previous hiking cycles Yeah absolutely So if we look at yields they are rising So U.S. yields trading one spot 7 3% up by two basis points In Europe that means that we're being dragged up at least the flat line for German yields now trading at negative 5 basis points So two and a half basis points higher UK guilt yields are by four basis points This is the picture across the board Italian BTP is now up by 6 basis points on the ten year training one spot two 9% Now that that gap that yield a gap between German and Italian yields is very closely watched by the ECB In terms of other markets those stronger Bloomberg dollar spot index up two tenths of 1% we had risk of sell off really across Asia the topics down 2.8% Oil markets are flat at $77 82 although we're closely watching of course what's happening in Kazakhstan and Bitcoin is now down by 1.4% Okay now time for the morning rush where we can carve out some time to highlight UK businesses making announcements here in London or company results trading updates M and a and more joining us is Bloomberg's breaking news editor Charles cable good morning Charles We've got MSC saatchi receiving a preliminary approach from its deputy chair What are the details That's right M and C site receives a preliminary approach from a vehicle connected with its deputy chairs in Murray Now proposal has not yet been received but the company has been told to expect one in the near term And if one emerges they would convene an independent committee to consider it Now MMC shares have unsurprisingly spiked on that news and will certainly be a story that we will be continuing to track on the breaking news desk Okay so that's for M and C what about next The high street retailer raising its profit expectation and they gave us some news about the Christmas trading period Indeed next increase its profit expectations for this financial year by about 22 million pounds and they also declared a special dividend That's after they had better than expected full price sales at the end of this year So they were actually expecting fourth quarters to be weaker than the third And as a result that they've had less surplus stock to discount in the January sales which of course are going on at the moment all across the UK sort of start yourself to boxing day But the thing is that they continue to be hit by those labor shortfalls particularly in relation to coronavirus And that's hitting their warehouse and their distribution And during the Christmas period they also experienced lower than planned stock levels That's from some supply chain disruption Okay Charles sticking to the UK high street then sandwich maker sandwich Shane greggs giving us an update and naming a new CEO Absolutely yes So great shares are actually down episode slightly this morning And that's after they say that roger Whiteside who has been CEO since about two 30 2013 will step down They've named Rosen curry as a new CEO So she's currently their retail and property director But she's also been leading their delivery drive and their collaboration with just 8 She will take the position from their AGM in May but will actually has their CEO designate from next month Greggs also posted a trading update where they said they expect their full year results to be better than previous expectations And that's despite those same coronavirus related stealthing and supply chain disruptions But importantly on the matter of my festive favorite they said they sold 6.7 million mint size over the festive season Good stuff Thanks so much Charles Lovely That is our breaking news editor Charles capable with the morning rush for this morning Let's move on now and talk a bit more about the takeaways from the Federal Reserve meeting in December the minutes reveal officials believe hikes in interest rates could come sooner and at a faster pace than previously expected Some fed members also said it could be appropriate to begin reducing the size of the feds Balance sheet soon after those rate hikes at which you were just talking about Tom Let's bring in our Bloomberg markets live editor Heather Burke Heather what is the fallout then in terms of stocks we saw a big sell off yesterday and that seems to be continuing in Europe this morning.

"About this minsk grace that you received through this intellectual vision because it may be very important for god's will in your life so that's what this good spiritual director will help you discern if it's just a religious fantasy you've just kind of you've self-generated this awareness of god's presence no matter what you self generate. He is fully present to you. So you're not deceived in. It's not done any harm to you but just let it go and pay any more attention to it. Because it's not really going to help you above and beyond the grace that you've already received god is already given every year everything you want then the word that imparted to you. Become something to ponder just like our lady pondered all these things in her heart. She goes on if i might. It would be worse. Should he tell you the devils deceiving you although no learned man would say so if he sees you the facts in you the the effects described even should your advisers. Say this. I know that the same lord is besides you will comfort in reassure you in go to your counselor in. Give him light that he may impart it to you. If the director though given to prayer has not been led by god in this way he will at once take fright condemn it. Therefore i advise you to choose a qualified theologian. And if possible. One who's also spiritual the price ought to allow you this for although she may feel sure that you are safe from delusion because you a good life yet she is bound to permit you to consult someone for your mutual security. When you have conferred with these persons. Be at peace trouble yourself. Know more about the matter for some times when there is no cost for fear. The demon gives rise to such a moderate scruples. That prison cannot be satisfied with consulting only once on the subject especially if he's inexperienced timid or if he bids her consult him again. So what's going on here and this is important. I think for those who are physicians. Authority to kind of listen. It can happen that a spiritual director is wrong. In what treats of avalos saying even when your spiritual director is wrong. Don't get excited or upset or worried. Just pray for your spiritual director In god will take care of your spiritual director. you don't need to correct your spiritual director. God will take care of your spiritual director provided has well for mine. He's qualified theologian. Good theology gives a spiritual director what he needs in if he's also spiritual that's icing on the cake she saying and so this whole paragraph is talking about. After you've had this experience it can be kind of exciting where theresa's trying to say his you kind of need to not live in the excitement over what happened but leave grounded in each deep confidence. In god's love no matter whether the experiences understood or not understood no matter the experiences from god or not from god whether or not the experiences indeed this intimacy that she's just described or not this. There's a certain holy deep indifference to the state of consciousness that an intellectual vision expresses the key thing then for person of prayer can template of soul is to be at peace and not be anxious about whether you're understood or not but to trust god. Pray for your director. The key thing is not to worry about whether it at long last. I've experienced this crowning moment or not. The key thing is if god is blessed with it see yes to the grace and to go deeper or if he's not just a humbly kind of smile at yourself and go well. There goes my imagination again. The lord is taking me on his journey and he'll get me where i need to go win. He wants and how he wants. An i can trust him. Trust is key working to be at peace is key what the evil one will try to do with this kind of experience even the authentic mystical experience vision. He knows that he's on the losing side and so he's going to try to ruin it. In the one of the ways he ruins. It is by making somebody too excited about whether others understand whether they understand or whatever we need to kind of renounce the excitement and humbly accept what it is for what it is in thank god for for whatever grace it was and then if it wasn't a grace that spiritual director have a holy indifference holy indifference we're indifferent to everything that is not god's will in it is never god's will for us to be too exciting euphoric about spiritual experiences. I can't help but say with a smile. I hope the soul well to peace. Be still and know that god but say it was a joy with a smile peace. Be still now. That i'm god. I mean that's something that we can rest with. Can't we anthony. Yep that's the great movement of humility in maturity is to rest in the love and mercy and confidence of what god is doing and we don't need to be in control. We don't need to figure things out what we need to do is grow in virtue we need to die to our selves. We need to be humble and single-minded and serving the lord we do those things we'd be still in those things she say that becomes the great task as we draw closer and closer into union with the lord any final thoughts on this magnificent shafter at the very end of the chapter. There's kind of a very powerful line. We can never feel very certain about such matters until the true judge rewards each one according to his merits then we shall be surprised to find health very different his judgment from doubt of this world. May he be forever praised a man. I've talked about in terms of humility and our little talk today. God in the way he sees the world is so different and the way he sees her lives in the way he sees. What's going on in a heart is so very different than what we are able to perceive or judge and that otherness of god the greatness in immensity that he sees. It's it's not that it goes against what we prove to be good holy and true in meaningful. He's not an holistic otherness. He's a deeper meaning a deeper beauty deeper. Glory deeper insight a deeper judgment than we have. I think anyone in a yearn for this for myself to who all of a sudden becomes amid aware of the immensity of the otherness of god. Some have talked about a manifestation of our conscious that occurs in awareness of who we are all of a sudden before the judge and this is not a bad thing of at all because anyone who begins to see the judgments of god. Their hearts are only enriched by their lives only improved in their ability to love those given to them. Only be that much deeper just beautiful. Anthony thank you so much. Thanks for taking the time in look forward to continuing our journey through the interior.

"Though the amount of writing is maybe not as long as other ones but it's not only powerful but it's very very rich in terms of its content and so it's worth spending a little bit of time with just to give a little bit of context. We're in the eighth chapter. The six mansion this inner chamber she has earlier described for us is almost indistinguishable from the last her last book which is on the seventh mansion. The most inner of the mall is shorter than actually this book on the six mansion but when she describes six mansion. It's kind of one long chamber the seventh mansion. Meaning those who make it into this. Space have already arrived at a place of deepest union the transition between the graces that she describes in this chapter in the grace's that she is going describe your last chapter. It's kind of a continuum of intimacy deeper and deeper intimacy and that's why these graces in this particular chapter have the poignancy that you observed. They are powerful grace's in the deeper. You go into your intimacy with christ. Jesus the more powerful the grace's that he gives you are the reason why that is true as if he gave you powerful races early on in your spiritual life when you were less mature. They would kind of overwhelm you. You wouldn't be strong enough to receive them up until this time. He's very patiently. Worked with you giving you grace after grace east grace healing your humanity building. You up preparing you for the next grays until you get to the chapter eight. In in this she describes a very special kind of grace called an intellectual vision. Let's talk about that antony because that is one that is probably more common. Is it not with those who the church have acknowledged a seemed to receive the a an extra ordinary type of mystical experience. And what i mean by that there are those who will see something with their eyes and they feel it so clearly that this is a vision of something significant it will whether it's a person or it's a place or something but then there are those who will have this this intellectual vision and that probably is more common is it not people can have visions that they see with is or even visions that they see with their imagination and at this is common in yet it is so people do have these experiences and part of the reason why it's difficult for us to talk about and we suspect them so much we have a lot of suspicion around them is because our imagination is easily deceived and even what we think we see with our eyes. There's sometimes we think we see something that we didn't see and no one wants to be kind of looked upon as a a religious weirdo. I was just at a conference in one of the speakers. Talked about how faithful catholics in the eyes of the world are like weirdos because what we believe in how we believe it is so extremely different than the prevalent worldview and if the speaker called us weirdos he also said that those who don't know jesus who don't follow our faith in other words. Those who are not weirdoes. They're a lot more like zombies. They're kind of animated to live or something but kinda thoughtlessly and there's a way in which has you grow immaturity with the lord. He gives you visions that you see with your eyes and things that you see with your imagination and noises you hear with your ears and so forth and the purpose of those is to communicate something to us that we need. They're not meant to distract us. And they're not meant to become a a sourcing side for us or fascination or sensational Happen they happen. Because there was the incarnation. When jesus rose from the dead people saw his risen body we have public apparitions going throughout two thousand years of the lord and our lady and the saints and the angels people have seen these things and what tree survivalist kind of seeing this in her things that this is somewhat normative to see these things. Can you be deceived by what you see with your eyes or what you imagine with the power of your imagination. Can it just simply be fat fantasy and not have any reality to it or things that you hear or even touch in. The answer is yes. You can be deceived by all of that. But nonetheless the lure chooses to communicate himself through his angels and saints in even through operations have himself in in these ways. This means that when a child for example says that they felt the presence of the lord or saw him or heard our lady. Speak to them or anything like that. You know we shouldn't immediately discount. It has an over active imagination of child in when our spiritual friends talk about spiritual experiences that they pat. There's a certain kind of humble open-mindedness that we should have about. It doesn't mean that we don't discern them because sometimes people see things that aren't true and they respond in irrational way and so god never act irrationally you might act above and beyond reason but he doesn't irrational. He doesn't tell us what to do. Immoral things for example so all of these things referred to it. But there's a certain open humility before the way the lord works in this soul and that's if your soul that sees visions and has locations and all of those wonderful things in vivid things go on in your imagination prescott for all those gifts there other soles that god doesn't work that way through in it doesn't mean that he loves them less in fact it may be a sign that he loves the more because the more powerful the grace the less you are able to proceed it and the more powerful the presence of the lord to you the less your natural powers kind of fail before the presence of the lord if you think about this eucharistic -ly jesus is fully present to us body and blood soul and divinity in the blessed sacrament but our our senses see bread and wine are powers of perception. The power of our imagination is unable to see the form of the lord except through the signs of bread and wine in. That's the source and summit of our whole life of prayer right there and so going back to the idea of visions and locution in things. Being perhaps more common than we think they are. They are more common but there are also more of beginners experiences. They happened earlier. In our prayer life. At a certain stage the lord begins to take away what is visible tour is and what we hear with our ears what we can imagine with the power our imagination and he begins to communicate to us in a higher way in a way that allows him to communicate more of himself into us more freely. And that's what this intellectual vision is. John cross has slightly different categories. But he kind of goes in the same direction the same actual vision. She speaks of or describes in terms of an awareness of the presence of god. Being with you. Not something that you see with your imagination or with your eyes. But this kind've deep burning intuition that he is with you right now together with that experience of intellectual vision of the risen lord being with you accompanying you. They're also experiences of his absence. Where you've gotten accustomed to him being with you or you. Following him being close with and all of a sudden he removes. His presence is very painful thing. It's an intellectual vision because it's involving the power your intuition and you receive certain truths tree sevilla. She speaks about a truth being received by seoul in which she told not to be afraid. And this do not be afraid echoed in the inner chamber of her bean. She didn't hear it with her ears. she didn't imagine it it was a truth. Communicated into the depths of her soul someone who's called for deep intimacy with the lord needs the courage that comes from a word like that. Because the deeper you're drawn to the lord at to use my friends expressing the weirder you get in the is the world the more you will be persecuted in rejected and misunderstood even by those you love and who are closest to you and so in order to stay in the intimate friendship with the lord and ready to do as well. You need a deeper kind of courage being communicated into you you also need a deeper kind of humility you kind of know that this is a true intellectual vision because instead of puffing you up making you think that somehow you've arrived in you're better than your neighbor you have a deep sense of how needy you are. Before the lord vulnerable and inadequate you are in his presence. You have a deeper sense of thinking of others has better and more important than yourself rather than you being more important than them you feel yourself at their service you feel has if you are a servant for them. jesus called me into intimacy. Gave me a sense of his presence with me. he's a word not to be afraid. So that concern my brothers and sisters and these are some of the powerful messages that we happened. This chapter eight. I think this is so incredibly important. Because there's such an intimacy that has developed between the soul and with god and she will say this is in this particular case that she identifies. There is no way of expecting it. And it's not something that you can imagine but it is just this incredible. I don't know how to say it but an intimacy of heart is not Sense of intimacy of heart and at the same time. The presence of this otherness someone other than you is. Being is present to you actually very beginning. This kind of mystical grace is distressing. Because you're aware that this being whose other than you is completely present to you. You can't see them. You can't hear them. You can't even imagine. The presence is so much greater. Your imagination can't get around it. So it's not really consoling it. I a spiritual presence can be disconcerting. Actually disturbing distressing is theresa. Vava uses the word in that distresses. 'cause if it's evil spirit evil spirit loves the distressed that it causes to seoul. It manifests itself to cause distress because it gives distressing anxiety. Allow it to predict and control your behavior. Jesus he doesn't want you to be distressed. So he's going to begin to work to relieve the distress. He's going to console you to reassure you. He's going to speak this word of courage into this. Think about this is exactly what the angel keep real tip for mary. Helpful of grace in. She was greatly distressed by these words. Do not be afraid. that truth. That we see unveiled in the annunciation is at work here. In what theresa vava's describing jesus becomes present to you and as you said there's a deep intimacy that he's inviting you into by this awareness of of the total otherness in greatness. Immensity his presence. You know you're not imagining that it's more real than you are. Even though your your senses camp really perceive what's going on in it frightens you in the beginning because it's so much greater than you think it's going to be and then almost immediately. He begins to reassure you of his love for you and invite you into a more intimate sharing of his life. That's one of the reasons when this press goes away if also distresses the soul it distresses it you when it comes to distresses you for a different reason when it goes away. The person can't help but thinking. This is more john of the cross in the but theresa says here what did i do to offend the lord in. It's not that the lord is less present you in the sense of he's whole together your existence. He's fully present to you in the life of grace leeann dwelling of the trinity has not been diminished. Just because your intellectual vision your intellectual sense of his presence isn't there he's present to you in a different kind of way maybe even greater magnitudes The poor power of your intellect. Just can't even participate in remotely but there's a sense of this stage of intimacy of his coming in his going. And if you think about this. The whole experience of life of the church jesus rises from the dead. He's with the twelve in the upper room but then he leaves he sends into heaven and yet he's present to us until the time in so. We live in this kind of paradox of deepest total other immense presence and absence a- being within a going way at the same time. What trees evangelising here is that at this stage of intimacy. You experienced that.

"You see the greatness of love and in that moment. it's really hard for you. To keep on going to meditation. It would be harmful for you. The purpose of the meditation was to lead you to that moment of love. And so let that moment wash through you kind of own. It is asset. Let it be but she also teaches that that's going to pass and when it does you need to return to intentionally with your wealth choosing to think about jesus in a sacred humanity and what he did and suffered for us to give thanks to god for the price. He paid to redeem us and so for her. She doesn't really view the moments where it's difficult to pray because you're overcome by the love of god as this thing that is better than meditations. She sees meditation and that moment of contemplation is kind of mutually going together. It's like a dance that happens. John the cross also teaches it. There does come moments where sold it's in the state. A state of grace that has lived a faithful life in his been engaged in prayers. Otherwise that person's healthy psychologically healthy all of a sudden the ability to use your intellect in your imagination in prayer. The same way you were before it's like you're not able to. All you want to do is sit in silence before the wonder of who jesus is and what he's done for you. Your silenced by it. well. I think that's very similar to what treats vava's says in an giang across treats of outlets both say that what god accomplishes in that powerlessness of soul. When your own activities as it were suspended by god is far more than we can accomplish by our own efforts. But both john and teresa also say that no matter how far you go in that kind of prayer when you are silence by the love of god as it were no matter how far you go you will need to return to the very humble effort of using your nation in your reason again for reasons that are known to jesus and take him alone We're not pure. Angels is treated outlets says that our humanity is.

Today we now return to get into pray with dr anthony anthony. When we go to section eight of this particular chapter chapter seven is she talks about all. Just read it some souls mansion. They cannot meditate even on the passion still less on the most lesser virgin or on the saints the memory of whose lives greatly benefits and strengthens us. So what's going on inside that soul. That feels they can't meditate on the passion. The christ or on the saints whose experiencing that this section. She is engaging in a kind of discussion. That's going on at the time. There were people who believed that at a certain stage in your life a prayer you needed to completely abandon meditation and only engage in contemplation. There are problems with that in contemplation in particular what they met was a simple beholding up the lord without engaging your understanding or your memory and they said that they believed that another words that the passionate the lured his humanity his passion was like a threshold. You needed to pass through so that you can get to a higher level of union and at a certain stage you could lead the thought of jesus humanity behind and just be aware of jesus's divinity and in fact some people have interpreted saint john cross that way insofar as they have the wrong..

"Was the freaking field think about that you would showed a pod size based on sunday being worth like four times as much as as the market thought right so so my point of this sort of sanity check on market numbers. So my point. Is that like twenty five percent in twenty percent into the calcutta you and i had in. Would he say in the puget. Even though word means impeding outsize slide pots. I would say i'd yeah. I know implied. You're implied so right. We're not impeded okay. So an implied pot size of like. I think we both said like fifty or something like that right. Seventy five eight seventy something right. Yes it ended up and then we were so we had a fair amount of data that point. We've always felt like at that like we have a fairly good idea of what the pint-sized says but we're off and that's primarily. The reason that like i was. I felt like like rory was such a good bye was because i had the wrong when were came up but i think the thing is the pot is going to continue to grow. I mean the the implied pot size will continue to grow because the person that buys each each Golfer is the person that has the highest market value for that golfer. It's gonna be at the price of the second hot essentially the second highest bidders reservation price right in an auction. The price paid is. Nobody's gonna outbid themselves like whatever but rufus. every time. i buy golfer okay. My implied pot size is probably going to go down right. Because i got him. Because you've got you've got a good deal but everybody else's it's probably gonna go up and so overall if you took If you took the like the group of the whole everybody bidding the whole calcutta squad. On average after each after each golfers auctioned the pot. Size is gonna go up the implied pot size..

"I'm set it in. Forget you're sitting there at gaming your payouts bitcoin for the calcutta based on the movements that you think bitcoin going now. I just haven't touched by Used by bitcoin wallet since january. I mean i have. We have a business partner have like one that we use for transactions for betting and stuff. So i i let i let him deal with this that but got talking about baseball. But i do think there. So here's a question. do you think i. i think that there is more will. Do you think there's more variance in sports betting. Like if you have a quantitative model than you'd expect from like flipping a coin it for then you'd expect if the events were independent I mean yes. But i think that's probably like bias in. It's like one of those emotional things right like an in the thing with baseball to your point is it's every day it's a long season. There's a fair amount of volume each day and so like you're going to be prone to like pretty big swings right for by busters right but if you modeled it out like statistically in ran simulations and all that is the variance you actually experienced greater than the Expect to experience or nerd nerd nerd. I mean i would think it's about what you would expect right. But i think like over the course of time. Your your brain probably underestimates. How much variance. There really isn't something like this. The thing is. I still think like having been other sports in golf like have a gazillion bats engulf every week. How many zeros are in a gazillion. I don't know although we hit the two million dollar volume mark on gulf vetting last week for the first time for give for one term that i was not not including the calcutta.
