The Irresistible Charm of The "Family Factor"
"The first thing. I want to talk about is. It's actually a a piece. That was put out by credit. Suisse maybe four years ago. Yeah four years ago. Twenty seventeen and it's called the irresistible. Charm of the family factor. The family factor is just the fact that as they point out in the report family owned companies tend to outperform. The non family owned companies in their peer group and this it holds true. It's like all regions all sectors all different sizes big cap small mid cap cap. Everything in between and they say this was written in two thousand seventeen. They said over the last decade. The annual return generated by family owned companies was on average five percent higher than average annual return. That's a lot man. that's a lot. The difference between like twelve percent a year and seventeen percent year. Just say is a lot and so they're they have what credit suisse caused the family. One thousand apparently they have an index or a list of these of thousand of these companies and they started out the report. They say whether you're buying coffee at the small cafe around the corner driving a bmw or sitting in an armchair eating some fruit from the local grocery store. You're enjoying the products and services brought to you by family owned company so bmw i- kia and whoever else they're talking about

European Union Pushes for 'Digital Sovereignty'
"Like many other governments. The european union passed a massive coronavirus recovery package setting aside trillions of dollars to get the economy back up and running on the other side of the pandemic but also included in what is extensively a covert relief. Plan is a more than one hundred and fifty billion dollar pledge to bolster the technological independence one of the plans. Big goals is for europe to make up about twenty percent of global chip sales by twenty thirty. Which would be double their current market. Share it's all part of the blocks broader ambition of catching up to countries like the us and china when it comes to technology for more on this we turn to our reporters do. Hey stu thanks for being here. Thanks for having me okay. So why is the eu making this pledge. Now what's been going on in the tech sector that europe feels. It needs to address one of the things that the pandemic really showed was how dependent european technology is and other parts of the world especially for things like computer chips. So there's a global chip shortage right now and one of the reasons that there's been an unexpected surge for things that require computer chips so we're talking about laptops and tablets is part phones for for people who are doing remote work and schooling. But another thing that you might not think about requiring a lot chips cars cars now required dozens of chips for things like controlling the engine transmission. Backup cameras infotainment systems stuff like that and europe has a huge car industry. Yet you're thinking we're thinking companies like mercedes and bmw. Volkswagen and some of these companies has had to have to cut production and even furlough workers idol factories because the bill the cars. Because there aren't enough chipped going round in this world so the idea behind this is to have the european semiconductor companies have greater presence in the world so that these car companies don't have to go to places like the united states and asia by chips rate and i think when we think of the major global players in tack we think of the us we think of trying to and others we don't necessarily think of the e us tech scene. So what does the industry look like. They're now and how likely is push to work. As far as semiconductors are concerned the us and asia really dominate the sector. So you think of big companies like intel and does samsung. Tsmc there either in the us or asia. So you're trying to play catch up right now so you're does have a couple of big semiconductor companies like annex p. and am allen. The netherlands infineon in germany. But they are sort of in niches of the semiconductor industry. They focus on things like making the machines that make chips for instance or for specialized chips cars or industrial uses. They don't have the big chips that go into data centers or laptops or smartphones. Like the us or asia dies. So that's what they're trying to do. They're trying to really spur. This hub homegrown industry. But there's not a lot to start with and the learning curve for developing these really tough technology that requires really expensive manufacturing facilities. It's really steep and it's a nine years. That's a short amount of time to try to become a bigger player in the global chip industry right nine years till bat. Twenty thirty goal. They set for themselves. So why do they see this. As such a big priority. One of the stakes for the eu. One of the things That they realize was that volkswagen for instance they had to furlough workers idol factories because they couldn't get enough chips and they had to get those chips from other parts of the world. So this is a really really big deal for their economy. If some of their biggest industries can't operate because they're reliant in other regions. That's a huge problem for them. And that's that's been a story of their tech sector. In general for the past several years steel is the eu the only government taking steps like this or are we seeing similar action from others. The eu is not alone. And that's going to make its attempt to catch up and the chip industry even tougher one country. That's poured a lot of resources into advancing. Its domestic chip industry china. They set up. These huge government finds sometimes worth tens of billions of dollars in an attempt to catch up with places like the us and taiwan. Now the us in response they recently. The congress recently passed its own legislation to sponsor projects to spur the us chip industry. And each of these projects might be worth billions of dollars. They might get billions of dollars in tax taxpayer aid or financial incentives to build facilities in america to try to stay ahead of places like china. So that's going to be a really tough thing for europe to do is first of all the competing against two very well funded region and china and the us plus they're starting from from a smaller base and that's a couple of countries working to build up sort of technological independence. What does it mean that. So many governments are focused on that. What kind of impact could that have right now. We're talking about the potential decoupling of the tech sector. So there's been tariffs and expert controls between the us and china basically for something like chip industry is really important for a couple of reasons. One is military. The most advanced fighter jets and tanks and drones require really sophisticated chips. Artificial intelligence requires skated chip. So the wars of the future going to be determined could be determined by semiconductors on top of that there is a economic independence. If you're an apple samsung you need the most advanced chips to build your best laptops and smartphones. So we're talking hundreds of billions of dollars at stake here. If countries can't trade technology with with each other we're gonna see slower development of things like electronics. So we're talking billions of dollars at stake and possibly slower development if people have countries aren't willing to share technology with each other.

How Real Estate Sells Cars with Gina McCartney
"Gina, welcome to . the It show is great to have you speaking to us today. Maybe just to kick things off can you maybe just tell us a bit about Gina McCartney - who you are and some background. . to thank Yes, I'm yourself sure, you so Gi for na McCartney having me here today. Super excited to see both. So my background if i go back to perhaps my brief - youth and into professional career. I really my whole life was distant creative: sculpting, painting, designing and off the back of that passion went to uni studied creative advertising and was destined. ..my path was to become a art director . My very early career was in advertising agencies and spent ten years ing servic some like pretty big clients ilo, . kohl's meyer group. Cbi off foundation and then some order client bmw and many were because of mine and it was during that time that i realized how much i loved as and surprised no surprise. I joined renault. Stralia and joining renault at the time was at a really pivotal point for the business. And that was all about preaching and finding every possible opportunity we could in the market and myra was to introduce the sierra digital program. Really lift the capability of the dealer network from a lead management perspective. Sur getting out outta rot on building confidence back in the network that we were providing leads to them in generating value from office and then from neymar roll moved into a brand and events role and so the full marketing swayed had an awesome time with the business and great team. And then my time was up. When i was tapped on the shoulder for all at anchor pinellas area group been realized real estate dot com to you joined the business not really knowing much about the role. I was joining. He'd go to market manager role and of bain there now close to seven years and moved my way through various segments. So we're two now. Residential business at develop a business emotional property meteorologisy and clients and also to stint in malaysia. And i leave the win. We acquired a southeast asia and helped with the integration of that business side at an awesome korea here. Rei and now run. I tame called the customer. Excellence team and so my team move. Twenty incredibly talented people help support our two hundred thirty sales teams across australia. And that includes the learning development perching old training ogata market siles support collateral and operations analytic. Kpi's commissions incentive sprints and really big a big team mission and vision is to pave the new way of selling and selling clock when you work for rei. Let's bit about my story. Love love gardening love dancing and eighteen. And that's how i spend most of my time let's it's an impressive story. How you you've migrated from during the karate stuff through to or i will now into real estate now. We can't get a bit of understanding as to real estate dot com o. Rei group and what's the back story of real estate. Dot com abc business was born in the garage. Dome koster and for those familiar with john. It's in the eastern suburbs of melbourne and in nineteen ninety five and they came up with a crazy idea of water. We put the photos of property onto online so people can see them on the internet and so literally scanning photo by photo by photo built this web sought. That looks very different today than what did obviously up. Twenty plus years ago and over the years to really brilliant simple idea to gos- and today with the leading australian property portal and we have hundred million plus is it as a month coming to thought trillions of photos from a perspective and yeah we service most property clients around australia and that includes real estate agents property manages developers homebuilders land developers media clients of less amount of probably. But almost all and anyone that wants to reach property. Sega's we do business. You know you've got a really interesting background. Having spent tom and credit in automotive value in real estate can you. Maybe just discuss some of the similarities. Between automotive and real estate i remember when i joined. Ra and it was probably a month thing. I thought wow. I didn't realize there was so many similarities between the two industries. And if i stop from a business structure perspective the similarities of utah franchise groups independence at relationship between head office and you know the small small businesses that are running in local and regional areas. I think that that pressure that applies with a small business to find the raw talent retain talent when there is no professional requirement This note there's no huddle to get into other industry. And i think that is a challenge that are still share today and another real estate industry in particular institute really trying to introduce their professional courses create more opportunities for the right people to enter the industry. So they've got really quality staff sieving consumers invincibles. And i think our remember. That was a challenge in the automotive industry finding the right talent and apprenticeship styles perspective perhaps a bit of bid process. But that was probably one thing that i saw straightaway is a big lesson. In automotive that i think real estate can learn with the handshake. Between sales and after-sales and if you think of the real estate version of that is the sales and rental market now rent rolls the most profitable part of a real estate agency and if you think about the handover in the importance of one to the other the ongoing retention of the customer. I think that's a really important similarity between the two some. I think some best practice sharing could happen more. And then the probably the other big similarity i would say is the is much smarter and much savia and this is probably not exclusive to automotive in real estate but their expectations have increased tenfold. And no longer. Can you get back to a later inquiry within a couple of days. We're now seeing consumer expectations at a couple of minutes. And i think that's something that dealerships deal with daily and you know the the now now now economy that exists within cosima world.
Ford's New Rocket League Sponsorship is Perfect
"Besides the racing games which are a natural fit for car brands. There's one sport that made such a natural Fit For A brand sponsorship. I can't believe it took so long. It took it League yesterday Ford announced they're putting the Ford F-150 into the game. It's the first time a consumer-facing vehicle has been added to the game. So consumer-facing a key part of that. What does that mean rocket league has brought in a ton of different cars from media Universe has many of which are tied to actual Brands. You know, the Batmobile doesn't have a brand behind in the Dodge Charger is in game. So is Nissan's are thirty-four and so it's a Jeep, but the first two of those cars were tied to Fast and Furious DLC pack and they're based on old school cars for the charger it wage. 1968 and 1970 and the Nissan was based on the car from 1999 used by Brian O'Connor. The jeep was from Jurassic Park. So it's not like you can just buy these cars at a lot down. There was one other car that wasn't tied to a media franchise in rocket League's history. And that car is the McLaren starting at two hundred grand though. The McLaren is not a consumer car because it's a Subaru targeted at high-end customers. I'd wager to say maybe five people who play rocket League can afford a McLaren. Maybe that's generous Ford's F-150 is clearly different. The Ford F-series is the best selling Truck Series in North America nearly a million truck sold in 2019 when it comes to marketing you Market a Ford F series truck a lot differently than a new market a McLaren which is why it's fair to say. This is the first consumer-facing car that's existed in rocket League. What I think is really cool about the sponsorship. It says made up of a bunch of different parts first off the car inches the game great start it'll be available for purchase from February 22nd to the 28th. Then forward will also be a sponge for the upcoming rlcs winter major at the end of February that we taking over the in-game Billboards, which I still believe are a massive white space for sponsors Ford is also releasing a new ad around this partnership with the coolest part of that ad is that will be voiced by Bryan Cranston, you know the star of Breaking Bad also the dad from Malcolm in the Middle. Shout out to help crested also did for Superbowl at this year just to give you an idea about how much Ford is investing in the sponsorship and there's a final piece of a too which is also really cool Ford is hosting a freestyle competition people unfamiliar with rocket League freestyling is when you send your car turning like crazy to overcomplicate a goal in search of a sick clip, it's really popular on YouTube. It's doing tricks like flip resets double Taps Turtles and any other way to make a gold look really cool for it'll be inviting 8 freestyle rap. Our competition and the winner will receive an actual Ford F-150. Those are the kinds of small details that really make a brand sponsorship in Esports stand out to me. It shows an underscore the audience and the content that works with this audience as well. I really think this is the car sponsorship the rocket league has been raped for four years with the increased Esports investment from Brands like Toyota Honda BMW Mercedes and plenty more. I really can't believe it took this long, but good on Ford for finally making it
The Freedom To Be You
"Now. The topic i wanted to discuss in this podcast. Episode is the topic regarding the freedom to be you and this actually comes from the last four to five weeks in the podcast community. We've been talking about this weekly. And it all started with a discussion around the concept of branding so when i graduated from college i my first job. I interned at a company doing marketing. And then what am i first. Jobs was at an advertising agency. And i learned a lot while working at the advertising agency regarding marketing regarding branding and this specific agency that i worked for was known for coming up with the brand of what happens. Here stays here for the city of las vegas. That was one of our a. Customers at the advertising agency was the city of las vegas or the the It's actually the city. But they're they're ministry of tourism. Or whatever the acronyms for the entity responsible for getting people to visit las vegas so they had the agency had come up with this branding campaign. That what happens here stays here and I'm sure many of you have heard about this. It's it's a very popular Brand for the for las vegas. So branding is a very important aspect of marketing. But it's not necessarily the same thing as marketing. Marketing is what you want your customers to do for example in advertisement that convinces them to call your phone number to hire you for Air conditioning repair or whatever. It is but branding is something a little bit. Different brandon is everything that you do to evoke a certain feeling from your customer. So that when they think about your company they have a certain feeling and many large brands focus heavily on being consistent with their branding. Apple has a certain. Feel a bmw. Audi ford radio. Any major brand has a brandt. has what's called branding. And all of their marketing revolves around the brandon and it starts with something as simple as their mission statement so think of brandon as what a company wants you to feel about them and marketing is more what a company wants you to do and because i spent so much time at an advertising agency and learning the ins and outs of marketing. And the ins and outs of branding I started to think more recently about how we as individuals actually do the same thing. We have the story that we have about ourselves and then everything that we do when we interact with others revolves around maintaining the brand that we want them to associate with us and as silly as that sounds. I think it's very real right. You may have a story about you. Which is i am an intellectual person and look at me. How i read so when i post a picture on social media of hey check out this book that i'm reading and that's all part of my subconscious branding effort to make sure that you know that i am a person who reads therefore i'm a person who intellectual or things or things like that The clothing that we wear the way that we do our hair the Type of vehicles that we drive the sports and hobbies that we participate in. All of these things are involved with our personal brand. And i think it's important to understand this not because we're necessarily trying to eliminate our stories or to eliminate are brandon but our effort is to understand ourselves. Why does this you know when someone does or says something. Why does it affect me this way. Oh because it's inconsistent with the branding. That i have about myself that i want them to perceive about me. Now i've encountered this firsthand in my own practice with When i was going through my transition faith and i had this story about myself. Which is that. I am a good person. I do good things. I i'm not the type of person who's Going to intentionally do wrong Or i guess in its broadest sense. I'm not a bad guy. I'm not a bad person and i. I liked to be known as someone who's nice and friendly and who does the right thing. That was part of my personal brand. Or i guess is part of my personal brand
GM Has a New Logo
"Me set this up for everybody. General motors has a new logo. And it's similar to the old logo. It's still a square box. It has the letters g and m on it. it has 'em on it For those on youtube. Mr bruce's just throwing it up here on our screen we can see. It's it's it's it's it's a rebrand right so the debate going on in the motor one dot com universe is whether this is a good thing a bad thing ridiculous thing a terrible move a smart move. Let me give you a little bit. More background I don't really mind this. Rebrand that much but i also come from a marketing background. I had a marketing career. Long before i went time into journalism. So i i think maybe i get a slightly different viewpoint of the rebranding process and why companies tend to do it But john why don't you lead off because that's the reason you're here john is. John is the one that opposes my viewpoint and wait one second here. I get to play referee here. I get the. I'm calling the balls and strikes if someone starts taking too long. I get veto power. Because my thing is i have a completely different opinion. That both of you. That i will express at the end but comes up in. This discussion of re brands is that we've been seeing a lot of them a lot of the just in the past year i am going to share an image with you guys Is right now of three of them. What we say so. Volkswagen simplifies their emblem. Bmw's simplifies their Nissan simplifies their envelope. All of this has happened in the past year and there are other examples that i can pull up. There's maserati there is a mazda. Oh so this has kind of been bubbling up and then this. Gm one came up and chris in john in our motor one chat kind of started going at things and so i wanna give them the opportunity both to air their feelings about this badge and then when they're done i will come in at the end and give my opinion which is barely different from both pairs. So i'm gonna pop up an image of the gm badge. Actually i the they are going to tell you how they feel about the emmett. Mr neff i yield the floor to the distinguished gentleman. Here the image you popped up the gm the new gm logo Bruce was black and white. It's forgiving that is i would say the best version of the logo. Oh their degree. There's the gradient one which i think adds a level of ridiculousness to the logo so For those not viewing on youtube it is this new. Gm logo with a gradient. That goes from aquamarine blue into like the traditional jam. Blew into another blue All right so my views on this level. When i see it my first impression is that it is juvenile. That's the word. I used that chris and i were arguing over in our chat. I say juvenile. Because i think it looks like Like gm created an iphone app and this was the icon for it Or you know this is something a this looks like the The icon for new adobe software next to your photo shop and your illustrator It's trying to look Hi tack and and Not bleeding edge but more like you know. I'm part of the software revolution Which is true. That's happening in cars. Software and computing power is growing exponentially more important Let me take a note of that really quick. You said it's true. Sure sure that is granted and of course another reason that that the juvenile comes to mind as they went from two capital letters Which is proper grammar for It's an acronym general motors. You know and they went to to lower case letters so that has a juvenile edge to it to me This gradient is ridiculous and a first year. Art student would probably create that in photoshop And some people say like it's supposed to evoke a plug. And i guess i guess that's supposed to be negative space of the m and the underline of the m. Maybe i don't know. I i don't really see i don't get that as a strong message. from the logo. Now when i say it's bad. Like when i say it's bad like i don't think it's the worst thing in the world My perspective is that. If if i were if i were running the company. Or if i were an executive in the boardroom that day i would raise my hand and said we need to rethink this. This is not what we wanna do. that said i don't think logo bruins gm. I don't think. I don't th- i actually don't think logos and names of companies have that much power especially if your product is good. Your product is good. It can overcome a logo or or a bad name. And i say that having worked at a couple of websites that had ridiculous bad names and we're still successful because they were just good websites and people look past the name and just you know they thought of the brand of the site as as what the product is and the name took came on Took on a new meaning. And i think this logo could be the same way you know if gm succeeds in its easy. Revolution will probably look at the logo. with you know in a completely different way than we do today when gm's future plans are all promises and vaporware right now
The Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid
"Why not start with the biggest. Yeah i mean this was that we gave our edmonds talk right a truck towards the end of last year by finally got spencer longer time in over last week and then a few few days besides and yeah it's It's a lovely thing. I it's crazy when you think how trucks come on i mean this is basis This was this was like platinum. So it's the second to talk trade limits of the top trim but it had all the the hybrid system and loads of additional equipment at. It's just a it's a beautiful. You have the beds that lie flat. You know you'd these new you can hope for these seats that she basically turned into like a business bad many in most business class seats the little tables of fell out in the middle after push button guessed. It goes down and then you can fold out these tables. You know the The quality the leather just a fixed feels inside like a like a luxury car with tons and tons of space and glass roof eh. It goes all massage seats. Must have seats in fifty. He just took disciplines. You but it's a seventy full. This was a seventy four thousand dollar at its trailer. Anything that range. The belts at thirty grounding ghost serb about almost one hundred you know. He's almost kind of mad to think of it as an f. One fifty you've got almost kind of compartmentalize it but a great thing. I mean it drives. it drives. Well the the hybrid system is kind of nice to have around town but there is. It's not perfect. You feel as you do so many hybrids that little bit of that little bit of the transmission power train on refinements as it cuts from. Jim motor and back again. When it's what he's almost really generates emoji doesn't sound too great either but it's kind of nice to have at low speeds particularly if you kind of more not more urban centric like i The only thing that really makes it feel like a truck is just a a the physicality of the thing and be be the ride quality. You know you always that way. You realize you're in a truck and not next. Uv still dot. Kind of fairly fairly Ride right it's still has to toe in. Carry a payload which is actually interesting. Because i did when. I when i drove it at the ford event. I did grab one of the big trailers i grab one of the large like stream liner or. What do you call. I one of the big trailers and towed with it and a power boost towing was interesting because you know first of all it loads up that suspension which is actually more comfortable with with a bunch of weight hundred that it is without oftentimes and the combination of of the electric motors of getting you know getting onto the freeway. Up to speed or from a gecko i. I signed that of saw as a bit of it. Vantage having that low low. End torque yeah. Solids detaineees instantaneous. Just to get things moving not so. Yeah it's a cool thing and the only thing is what he you know in isolation and then start thinking if you need a truck so nathan seventy five grand you know. You're in july jelly x y. And i wanted to support a lincoln navigator. Seventy five thousand dollars buys you a pretty serious. Suv yeah it does i. I don't know how much i don't know you guys can answer that but how much cross shopping there as i feel. Like if you're a truck guy or you need a truck or have driven trucks for a long time like you're just you're just kind of that yet. You're kind of in on right. And that's what ford's banking on right. That's why they sell a million of these things here. It is and you know what i mean. Obviously i've got no talking about english roads. You know you couldn't drive it forms in the uk. But i'm a truck guy now. I love this. We went out with my. Yeah your truck guy on sunday and we we we went to hike and then we called and got some food on the way back. We actually the three of us in the bed so was like covy friendly friendly family environment. You can't sit outside. Maybe he can sit in your body. It was great. I drove a number of them. Like you're just driving now and we're saying that you know these are seventy seventy five thousand dollars trucks at this point but they don't have to be right. You said they started about thirty. I don't even know if it's even less than that. But do we know where the power boost version starts. What is basically if if if it really is a utility vehicle for you. The idea of the power boost is fantastic all the plugs and the outlets and the power on board and the the the job site stuff so kind of makes you wonder like what is the power boost entry level price. Because i don't know the power boost it's not like power was ten thousand dollars. It's a it's a few thousand dollars. Above so i don't know are. Is it somewhere around. Thirty three grand to to get sort of an entry level power boost. F one fifty. It's two and a half you remember correctly it's about two and a half gram. Does an option always tuna off ground above the. Va is an option. But i think what ford's done Had a so much complexity in in ordering a truck these days. If you ever see the old guide for netflix fifty. it's insane. It's like one of those old fashioned telephone books But what they have done is they've allowed this they Powertrain all on pretty much. The whole reg movies on the very bottom train but instead of just reserving it for plaza limited. They're actually giving you access to it across the right so you can. You can spec the truck exactly how you want it. So yeah i think it starts in the The probably starts in the thirties or the very the very least forty is you. Don't have to yeah. You don't have to get all the bells and whistles to get the power trae which is great because depending on your depending on your needs. A hobby project could be super useful. Yeah i i. I think you're right in that. I don't remember if power boost meant you'd have to get a bunch of other stuff a lot of times like oh. I want this package but you have to. You know get three other defaulted and i don't think you have to. I think you might have to get towing and things like that. But there's a there's a bit of stuff. But yeah and i think that that generates a system in the in the in the load bay is a is additional is additional but it eight some at least giving you the option you don't have to have you know.

This seems to be just a partnership right now and also hyundai says apple is talking to several carmakers about a bunch of things right now so quoting. Cnbc we understand. That apple is in discussions with a variety of global automakers including hyundai motor as the discussion is at its early stage. Nothing has been decided a representative from honda motor told. Cnbc's cherry king. The statement followed a local report from the korean economic daily. That said apple suggested the tie up and honda motor was reviewing the terms. The report said both electric vehicle production as well as battery development were included in the proposal. And that the car could potentially be released in two thousand twenty. Seven apple declined to comment on the report and quote at the exact same time in bloomberg mark. Gurman has a piece up saying yes. Apple is developing an autonomous electric vehicle. But the timeline for release. His sources say is five to seven years. Also this quote a key. Differentiator would be apple's ability to integrate. Its driving system a pricey initiative that has spurred the company to develop its own software sensor hardware chip technologies. The goal is to let a user input their destination and be driven there with little or no other engagement. According to the people familiar with the project apple doesn't manufacture its own products and it will likely take the same approach with a vehicle. "Maybe you should think about getting the note used to create your factory. I can't sell factory warranty basically giving the big brother impression of big brother. Bmw is watching you wherever you drive car and a kind of had that that kind of spooky field to it now. They they did. Walk it back right right so they are still scanning the numberplates in the uk but is now if your vehicle is older than a certain period than it puts up a message saying hey you should renew your factory warranty. So it doesn't specifically name a person but if there is a bmw in the line at the stop light and it woke sees that that person sitting there than that information up which is still feels creepy. It's hell feels very creepy. I mean even even if they aren't dipping into personal information even if they can just tell okay that's a that's a twenty fifteen bmw. Let's let's Let's put this targeted. And i mean what it's like basic is targeted ads on the internet. Right it's like they're pulling taking it into into real are and that like you're getting the targeted ad. Oh you visited. I don't know what site maybe you want. X. y. z. Like rice creepy and once again would be am w of fifteen years ago that they've done that i mean it. It feels like they're just not really considering their consumer the way you like we want you we wanna get we want to wring every last pound since the uk of you that we can. Would you know we want every cent and it it. Just there's nothing like more Morally wrong with it. It just feels creepy like that. You would do that and like put that add up in traffic and maybe like. That's a weird minority report type thing but mister and that's why we're talking about this What happened to the days of this. Bmw being the ultimate driving machine. I mean that was a that was a simple a simple ad campaign and they had the vehicles tobacco up. Bmw makes amazing performance vehicles. Amazing such michael's right now. Yeah what but i feel like. They're acting like a sleazy used car dealership. That moves certainly is like it. Feels like one side isn't talking to the other because every point that we've put out here that's a different side of the company that's bmw uk on one side. Bmw design on another side. It's whoever the tech people are but all of those things together. It just paints the portrait of a company that doesn't quite see a concerted way. Forward that they don't know where they're going and everyone is kind of flailing to get their own little bit of the pie while they can and it just looks bad for a historically great german brand especially when you compare them to mercedes benz which the new s class looks fantastic. Maybe it's a little cookie cutter But from the spy shots we've seen the class. Looks like a mini s class. Like mercedes seems to have reseda. Seems to know where it's going this coming week. We're gonna see or maybe maybe it's next week. Whatever virtual cbs's We're gonna see the new iki s which is going to be their flagship tesla fighting electric car. And it's going to have this massive a virtual display that the entire dashboard. Like you look at mercedes and you're like oh that's a company that knows where it's going. Everyone is on board and going in the same direction. Then you see bmw and the design team isn't quite right. The tech team is like trying to pull somebody out of people like no one is quite on board. And it's am. I wrong here like do you see what i'm saying. I do i think they. I think the direction is a little more focused than a than maybe you believe. Okay but but but i think the problem is they. They're set in one specific direction and they're not gonna listen to anybody else. Tell them how to get there. Because dammit there bmw they know how to get there and no company no business gets to where they need to go just by making the decisions that they think they have to make. They need to listen to their audience. They need to listen to the people that are buying their vehicles and they need to stop acting as like cheap used car salesman. I mean i mean that's that's what strikes me more than anything in this. They're they're trying to get a cash grab anywhere they can. Which a businesses you need to make profit. That's fine so maybe there dipping a toe into some of these subscription services. And you know what i hate to say. They cadillac followed suit a little bit with their super cruise. And that's going to go throughout gm. Soon that we're gonna isn't it'll see in the him. Yep and and you know what i mean. I don't wanna. I don't wanna draw in any stereotypes. I wonder if some manufacturers maybe are little more prone to it than others. I wouldn't expect this from bmw of said this earlier. I wouldn't expect bmw of a brand with with the history that it has to go for the cheap cash grabs you know. I expect bmw to make a cadillac. Cimarron is what i'd say it. Okay yeah they wouldn't make a cadillac cimarron now. I'm starting to wonder if they're thinking about it and it's bmw doesn't feel like bmw okay. Bmw bmw feels like an alter world. Copy that sky net made because it has this overarching plan of global domination. And they're just going to kind of shove this down the people's throats until one day they wake up in their cars. Kill them about. Maybe i went to a dark place there. I have been watching westworld for a while. I i think. I could put that same point slightly. Different way is that this has to balance profits vs customer satisfaction and so in our industry. You could run a website with absolutely zero ads with the greatest content in the world and make zero money and on the opposite of that you can charge.

What the hell were they thinking. And we're looking at you. Bmw and we're going to try to not be too extreme. And i can imagine. I wanna put this out there. I am a former east thirty. Bmw three twenty five which was very very base model At the two point seven liter. Inline six the engine similar with it. I drove it through college So i am not a bmw hater by any stretch but we need to talk. Am w we. We need to have a discussion. And now it's time we do. And i'm not a hater either. I've never owned one. I almost bought an e twenty four several years ago. that was kind of in love with. I'm still in love with a twenty four is the. I love the forty six. I mean yeah. I'm definitely not a hater. Actually i learned to drive a manual transmission on a brand new thirty-six. It wasn't an m three. It was now what i think. A three twenty six twenty. I worked i worked at a bmw dealership and they were like you can drive. Drive a stick right now. It's the kid. Can you know i. I remember goofing around with my brothers ford escort way back in the day that emmanuel when it was sitting in the garage with. They'll engine in it. So how hard can it be. So no we're not. Bmw haters no no no but but bmw also sit down. We need to talk. When did bmw make a v ten for the m. Two i think people are. No i think i think they know what we're talking about. I think over new year's Bmw dropped just a little thing on their Social media feeds And it it just happened to be video. Drifting into twenty twenty one corrected parsley smoke everywhere. But boy that didn't sound like an inline. six did it. bruce did not know. It sounded like a lamborghini v ten. It did yeah and you know who noticed a lot of everybody. Everybody notice now. Bmw you're supposed to be an enthusiast brand you marketed. Yourself has enthusiasts branch for decades and decades. You know who are really really particular when it comes to cars enthusiasts. Yes so it should be no surprise. That bmw picked up or bmw. People picked up on this right away and then non bmw people picked up on it right away and then joke in the rest of the world's picked up on it right away You know we wrote an article. That that i'm showing up here on the screen right now for those on on youtube. Bmw pulled their video down. not really surprising but jason kameda He managed to catch it before. Bmw took it down and he posed. He posed a great question. If these companies can't make a decent ad why why wonder why they can't make decent cars. You know i. It sets a short unchain away. 'cause advertising game the engineering team. They aren't the same but his point. Kind also stand but the point stands because we have to look at it at a bigger picture here. This was more than just one bad. Yeah i mean this this ad was. It's like come on bmw. Who you trying to fool here. We know were the as we know what engine sound like. Especially a v ten. Are they making utter crap cars while they have the four series with that big grill that is been universally now. Maybe not universally but there are so we've seen so much negativity on that grill and it's just like they're just pushing forward like so. I like to address this. I can't call the four series of crap car. Because i've not driven one. But that design i and i know design is in you know. It's a subjective thing. That design is bad. it is. It's bad they started with the four series and then naturally went to the m four which we all expected and then for some reason they put it on the m three. I don't i don't understand the m three because a w did did bmw. I can't remember. I have to go back and try to find a specific article but i seem to recall a one point. Bmw sane. This is going to be a design. Cue that sticks with the four series and they almost. It was almost like an experiment with the four series. Like we're gonna the forest series. We're gonna see how people react. You know we'll go from there and just clearly from when the cars were designed the m three and the four must have been on the page at the same time and so it seems like that that pr message didn't match the actual design message and we ended up with an m three with an employer knows..

"And then because there's a different boxes of Bosch boxer Siemens box they had to go and convert a few things few tables over and and stuff and so he finally got that got that completed and done and during the whole time I had been repairing all the other wiring and things. He's like that right so there's a lot of like waiting as going on finding Ecu we're yeah and then flash these you and so as all of this is happening over of course of several months kind of I dunno gave you the opportunity or force the opportunity to snoop around under the hood look at cooling issues and wiring issues and electric electric fan issues and relays and fuses. And because we had other issues we had cooling issue and the brackets and everything for mounting stuff. We're just right on well. and and we're melting wires on fans for some ungodly reason. We don't know why it was just like the wires are heating up so just pulled everything out and kind of started over from from scratch and and cleaned up all the wiring. Yeah I just had to pull back all the insulation on stuff and find where things are tapped into remove some wiring. I mean everybody had been in there her. I'm really really crazy anal about how I do my wiring and everything like that so I took out all solder joints and stuff like that even if someone had you know soldered something to it Even though the wires cut I removed that properly shrunk with adhesive shrink tubing and made everything waterproof thought about you know everything as I'm going through you know if if what something was touching this or that just fixed everything that I possibly saw. That was going to be an issue. And we got rid of you. Know little crappy over the counter connector and things like that and went to all like weather pat- connectors and just did everything the way it was supposed to do and So where where are we now. It get my car back. You can take your back so the day after you drop it off so I wish I had treated Jackson so I get the fans and stuff all the mounted in there are. We got nice flexibility with a digital control box and everything like that that goes on temperatures. The other thing too is that as soon as you turn the key on it was always out always live with the fan and and so the fans are always running all the time when you're cranking voltage goes down an inductive load. Current goes up Blah Blah Blah. Now we're running. We're running a computer on the fans right now. We have a dedicated which which people can buy by the way flex delight to rally. They all make like a smart fan controller. So when you when you when you turn on the car Arianespace has relays built into it now as well transistor is based. That's it when when you turn on the car. It kicks the fan on out about fifty percent so so it does get some era going. It's basically a soft touch a start up so it doesn't shock. NS system ended allows for Further air conditioning and stuff I tapped into. AC coupled clutch comes on it. Turns on the fan automatically and when the engine heats up more area sitting at a stop light it turns it up to one hundred percent and then it backs off when you don't need it so it's less wear and tear on the fan gear on the car car. It's quieter no if you don't have to run a three thousand. CFO Fan right all the time. You know it. It's just GONNA run a lot quieter or that. The inner cooler mounting and stuff like that there was like probably thirty holes in the bumper with stuff so I wound up actually kind of patching up some holes on it not starts in there so at Bolton to one place you you know finally fixed the bumper mounted So the inner cooler. So this has an air to water. Inner Cooler over the big heat exchanger radiator ca ah so the manifold the super charger blows into the manifold that attaches to the throttle bodies and in there is an air to water Kohler. But that that that water needs to pass through essentially a radiator like you would on your car with your radiator so there's a heat exchanger looks like a little radiator mounted in the front of the car and the way that was mounted it was a mess and the the Court Radio Cross support radio support was all packed up and stuff. I decide to make new mounts and stuff. Because it's got the new radio with Ron Davis radiator in it and everything so I had to make mounts for that amount for the condenser and then because they cut out all the support support for the hood goes and stuff like that. I had to actually figure out like how how to mount that to the front of the car into the radiator supports over the hood shuts and it it shuts flush and everything now. The other significant thing is when you put a super charger on your car. It's very important. How the air gets into the super charger? And the the what was on there currently was this terrible old like flex hose like break ducking hoes but it was kind of smashed in cramped in places it looked like it got that run over by a truck. Yeah literally and so. We did a little experiment that we buy. We bought a bunch of stainless to being in some forty five some nineties. Whatever needed some cutting and welding fabricate and you take charge by which I'm really proud of it was so tight I'll how you got? It's an eighth eighth of an inch from any contact point it snaked through perfectly and then have a big nine inch long of filter on. Yeah so we're I'm running on the front of the BMW if you remember some of the pictures and back in the day it doesn't have the stock bumper cover has a CS L. bumper cover and on the driver's side. The bumper cover is is sort of like one hole in the bumper almost like a break duck during probably about three inch in diameter and and that's basically where the filter is mounted. So it's it's right in the line of fresh cold air and no kings are dense in the in that tubing all the way down. Yeah so I I got that. And they're not alone probably is is going to be adding about at least one. PSI of boost. Yeah I honestly. I don't even know how the thing made any power in the last one. They made it was atrocious. So Oh I got. I got all that stuff done actually finally fired up and drove it. What they go two days? Yeah drove a two days ago and it felt really strong it. Yeah it felt fell north of four hundred horsepower to the tire. Yes something like that. It couldn't hold their power through first gear at all. Just incinerate tire so So it was running running really well. And then I I'm trying to work on the air management through the radiator Because they removed everything that cars got a a lot of ducting and in from the front bumper Goes up through the CAL to cal but behind the radio support and then around the engine and everything and people well don't realize how critical that is including the under pan between the the radiator and the radio support in the bottom and everything And all that stuff's gone. I I mean they cut everything out so I drove it around. It felt great I've got the fans. Come on one hundred sixty degrees thermal couple and the radiator and everything and then while I was sitting there talking to Matt saying things run like a champ. Why the hell is it? Two hundred four degrees. Yeah so two hundred. Eight degrees are the ten. Ah cracked the hood open. Pop The hood open. It would actually reduce the heat and come back down. So there's something going on I think flow wise is or something I don't know when they put the together you know sometimes if used wrong head gasket I don't know enough about that. Particular engine per se to design if there's any cooling cooling passages stuff like that but it's acting like there is a flow problem or something so I need to start. Just give it back. Give it back to mad cracks hood and Dr Savage. It just leave it. Just leave it off or just drill about foreign whole side Beatles. Yeah just just drill real wholesome there because he goes why why. They're four hundred louvers in the problem. Solving listen I I we. We're experimenting a little bit as as well on the truck this weekend. This is kind of important because bill. You're you're so many of your car supercharged down. You're talking about doing something on your truck on your new. Ram is where you're taking an air from the outside all the difference in the world and when I had This weekend we posted the video from from banks when I had the Ford lightning over banks and put it up on. That was that that was the video radio. Yeah that was the video from a couple of months ago they finally got around to everything. And and it's a terrible supercharge. We knew that it's it's it's twenty five years old. It's got one hundred two thousand miles on it. It's just a heat pump but right under the hood is the open element filter and a lot of cars. Had this a lot of these so-called cold air our cats or whatever it just an open filter under the hood and putting it on the dino. So I've got the banks. I Dash Rush Gauges in their super goes guys. That is they hooked up. Temperature Gauges and air density gauges. They have an ambient air temperature gauge eighty relative humidity. I have the gauge basically in the front of the Grill to tells you if it's sixty degrees outside that's the ambient air and then I have a temperature gauge age right before the super charger at the inlet. Pass the filter between the filter and the Super Charter. So that's the super charger inlet temp. And then I have the the super charter compressor outlet tamp. It's it's on the pipe between the superchargers and the throttle body and then I have a manifold temp. So that's the air going into into the manifold and what temperature but he's got that modern have a modern fit fit for for your vehicle. I really do. It's basically what the eye the eye dash is. And what I'm seeing is is almost double between more than double between the ambient air and what's in the engine so but sixty degrees outside. I'm doing over one hundred and twenty degrees in the engine. This is an ongoing work to it. It's non on inner cooled supercharged so compressor technology and because you can see all this stuff in real time. Every time I stop.

Dave, how are you? Thanks for taking my call. Sure. What's up? So my wife, and I are forty five years old. We got nine year old twins. We're currently working on baby steps to believe. We'll we'll be set free within a year. Well, currently banking our home and just wondering based on our age and stuff we should plan on buying a home again in the future. If that's something that we should start planning for or we should just continue to rent wants debt free based on our situation. Why wouldn't you buy a home? I just. Five and we're back here where we want to retire. If we're gonna live in Chicago the restaurant lives, you know, we're fifteen twenty years out from retirements if we do by we would want to buy probably in a fifteen year mortgage with a sizable down payment, of course. Kind of planning and preparing for that. Well, I mean, if you look at real estate prices ten years ago, and we'll start precious today that would tell you you would wish you had owned a home during that time. By and large and certainly fifteen years ago, and very certainly twenty years ago. And so were you to stay in Chicago for that period of time? For for the next five to twenty years, then you're going to make some money on the house. And it's going to be worth having home the house. Usually buying real stay on the short term can get you in trouble. If you're going to be there three years or something. But that's not the case. But then in retirement owning your real estate what that does is it locks in the most expensive cost you have which is housing it locks in the cost of it to own the house, even if it's on payments prefer, obviously to be paid for when you get to retirement. No kidding. But even if you just have a house payment and see if you live to sixty five years old statistically, you're probably gonna live in the ninety s average the average death age of a male is seventy four, but that includes mortality teenage death and so on statistically, if you're in good health at sixty five you probably gonna the twenty five years to outpatient flation, and guess what rent's gonna do during that twenty five years. It's gonna go up every year. And so your most expensive cost as housing, and it goes up every year. When you're a renter during retirement or any other time so for now being a renter while you finish up getting out of debt as you said and get.

"Two hundred ninety five pound feet of torque. It'll be through an eight speed, automatic transmission. I don't know that there's any manual transmission valuable. And this should be a little bit of bump and power over the previous generation to leader. I think it's something like fifteen horsepower and thirty five pound feet of torque zero to sixty supposed to be about five point. Two seconds should be pretty interesting. That's what's going to come out. I believe in twenty nineteen. And then. And then soon after that we will have the three liter version which is the turbo charged. Six older of course the in line six that BMW does so well, three hundred eighty two horsepower three sixty nine pound feet of torque and zero sixty four point four seconds. I'm curious if they will do an m. version. I'm sure they'll be an m sport version, which will have. The trim package and things like that for the for the sport. But I don't know if they're going to do an immersion like to see an inversion of it could be kinda cool. I'm not sure how this falls in with. Are they going to do as e? Five? I wasn't sure if they're still doing that or is that the one that's the Toyota Subaru. The Toyota Subaru platform that I think that's the one that. Being shared, you know, I'm not sure, but we know that the new Subaru is coming out and it's a shared platform with the BMW. So a light to get some more information about that. I think that start coming out soon. I think more on the Subaru side, it's gonna be tough to sort of. To sort of Trump the to Jay z motor. The Subaru turbo, that we all love and every fast and furious fan that. That fell in love with the Subaru from the super. I'm sorry, the super turbo, not the Subaru. It said Subaru, but Roenick the you're talking about the relationship between those two because yesterday as I drove home on the seventy three for my last day of Seth on m. c. i. s. not. Right. I saw a nice BMW bads, you know, with the trunk emblem with an w r. x. badging right next to it. Oh, that's weird. It's gotta be some somebody. Somebody making a play on the whole on the whole crew. Yeah, it's it's kind of similar to to view of the photos you've posted with that Lexus and you know, pretty goofy. It's pretty funny what people do with their vehicles out there, and it's weird that we're starting to get these shared platforms. Now I mentioned Subaru, but it was like Subaru and Ceylon, right? The f. are the f. r. s. was was built with the Subaru VR z. now we've got Toyota. We've got the Supra being built on a on the platform. They're speaking shared with BMW. So I mean, I guess it's a way for for them to bring out these these sports cars that are kind of fun, but share some of the development costs by by kind of doing this, this crossover of brands, if you will. So should be kind of interesting to see how that how that all plays out. If if super fans get behind this or not, we'll we'll find out. So there's a bit some, some, some precedents and some some releases. They came out soon and big news from Ferrari and big news from Audi, Audi released what's called the e Tron and it's basically a small SUV crossover. It's all electric it. It's going to be up there like we know we've had the model, the tesla model x. for some time and Jaguars been really talking a lot about their pace through even doing a spec racing division. I think Bobby Ray hall is one of the teams. He's feeling one of the teams out there in this all lead trick. I pace spec racing class, so we were pretty familiar with the. I pace of what we've seen so far. We're actually on schedule to drive one of those. I think in October we're gonna get an eye pace. I gotta check the dates on it, but I'm not. I don't remember for its before or after Sima. I think it's before Sima, we're going to drive the, I pace and really get kind of an idea. And the pace is something like..

"The likes of Tom Sykes Chaz Davis. We're gonna face. I don't think they're going to go out of world cheap points behind. There's a very real possibility that they might not find themselves on. Great machinery show mirror prettier in the middle. Appreciate some. Some people say now I just I'm not sure. I really, I'm not sure about that. So there's been riders expose rotating around different teams as we know certainly the stock thousand in in Great Britain anyway. But do you think maybe it is it is important for the riders to still be moving around should? Should there be this much action? Is it good for Wilson, Mike? Is it good for us for the fans? Is it good for the riders? Is it. What's your thoughts on that? I think. Conversely, I'm going down a bit more of the fan. This. If you have a ride. Work emerge will own about reviving well-supervised. If you're gonna have revival of worlds, you, you have to. Puts kind of I'm trying to think of a real life example. After three years, you have to move teams three goods. Yes. Because I think three's I j on the bike trutv in years. Second year on the bike, you look into win. Depend on the team races, tiles. Sergio defend all improve. Now, what about five years? I mean, that's that's enough time to the problem. Get at the moment. Well soup, is that Jonathan right? Superb, Ryder, but the cow is accurate a superb back and no one can get near him, but most lands well, that's for everyone else to be about. Yes, yes. But that's the, that's the problem he's with cameras. I keep another two years so you can almost assume that any another two years down the line. We're going to be having the same conversation on the superbike show insurance twenty. The world soup is still boring, inverted commas. I'm not. I think if we Saberi Asian rod is moving teams. Because they have to, I think I'll just, I think I'd be great because if you call someone Jonathan BMW be probably be just as fast. As other words, I'm an sounds like penalized limp. If you go down the aspects of peel mode spot where is as traditional is very nineteen, fifties and sixties where it's a race. And you know, there is no entertainment aspect to anymore because it's been saturated by regulations, Formula one, I'm calling your name world reports is done that. Now they've taken boy in this webs thing and allocations. It set your clutch. Has it not? It's like it's. I the entertainment Barak either Yamaha would be there anyway. They came on very, very good. We spoke to get less the last year and he said he thinks that they would have got their thing they would have. They will do perfectly well at the end of last year. So I say what's in this year? But appreciative. I don't think the right of development is increased at all, but people compared what they think now to like. For example, when we spoke to a lot of the riders at motorcycle live in November, and there was so much up in their back then about all these new rules coming in. Every single person we spoke to was really, really worried very skeptical, didn't think it would work. Didn't understand why they were doing it in some brightest cases Botts biolog-. Now you'd have to say, well, it's certainly in the first few races of the season. It's kind of made things a little bit more entertaining, slightly more unpredictable you'd have to say versus previous years not by, I really am I, if they were, we would have had a pretty is on the podium Wolong before Bruno round. I don't think we're going to be a dramatic change. Put those support in change, then. It's not working. NBA Costa, for example, fourth place team last year, quite consistently. Good. Fourth place out leeann Cam, you could buy a few falls lily good at the end of the season Jodi Thomas in falls. So there's one manufacture straightaway been pushed out BMW. They've not had an amazing year. Really? That's that's face it. Laws buyers done. What people thought Lewis do not really been up the front, not Joe choice was last year, so we can't BMW on very performing. I don't think he's done that much at all. I just think it's people going on and saying that. Regulating Everson done more or less nothing. I'll quote Michael Harris. When he's the end of youths, the rules are not a hero there, then no, there is no water to..
