Fresh update on "bly" discussed on The Film Buds Podcast

"Had a whole theater to watch tenant anybody you in a party of a few people and honestly like pre covid-19. Pair hearing from people and make sure to follow us on on social media. So I guess we can end up with our pick of the week Paul. Would you like to kick things off? I mean, you've mentioned a few things that you've been watching over the last few months, but I'm sure actually I guess if I was going to pick anything for the week, my main pic of the week would actually be the horror film hush directed by Mike Flanagan it it's the same director who did if you don't know Bly manner Haunting of Hill House, he did Gerald's Game doctor sleep. So he's he's done some really great stuff by manners. Just okay, but is a great little home invasion horror film where they they have a defamation of character and instead of that deafness being strictly a hindrance or strictly like some sort of weird strength, you know, like some sort of weird superhero power. It's just an attribute, you know, it has UPS and it has downs and it works for her character. And it's an enjoyable little two-man show. It's got John Gallagher Jr. So if anyone here is a is a big Broadway fan you can go and you can watch some hair Moritz. So I would give hush a big watch. And that's probably my main pic of the week. Okay? Yeah, Mike Flanagan is a pretty interesting director. Yeah. Yeah, he's always one to watch for I haven't watched blind manner yet, but I guess you can skip it. Okay, as I was mentioning to to Paul yesterday. I started watching Marvel's Agent Carter, which is on Disney planes and I've been wanting to watch this one for a while and this show rocks like I could not believe I see you got the Blu-ray right there. This show is so good. I could not believe how I watched about. Half of the first season last night like it. It's so entertaining the 1940s setting is done. So well, it's acted. Well, it's written so tightly, you know, there aren't many Loose Ends, It's very focused. And I think really one of the only issues with it is it's kind of obligation to the Sci-Fi comic book Element X, which is just you know, special effects and it doesn't always hold up. But otherwise it's dramatic for lack of a better word. It's fun. It's it's tense. It's really good. I was I can't wait to keep I'm so angry that they've cancelled it. So angry yeah to to honestly great seasons and you know, I hate to God I hate to tell you this but I do have to tell you this season to you're going to be left with a cliffhanger that they are not going to answer because that show gets canceled so long So buckle up for that buckle up for heartbreak. Yeah, can't wait. But yeah, and I think what's what works really? Well is I know very little aside from having watched the Marvel films. I know nothing about the agent Carter character and going into the show Fairly blank works. It works as just a kind of a Espionage series. You don't really need have a whole lot of back background on it to enjoy it or to understand. It's it's just it flows well and it's it's written by the guys. Who did I guess what Winter Soldier in a war I think in some of the Avengers films as well, but I think so and yeah, it's it's one of the most enjoyable shows I've seen in in a while so I would give that one a month a poke. Yeah. Definitely. It's a great show I very much enjoy it. Yeah. So angry, that's so disappointing. But anyways, all right. Yep. Well Paul, is there anything else you want to mention about anything? No? You know, everyone's stay safe, you know, the signs are pointing toward fall and winter being a little bit of a search for us. Not only here at home but International, yeah, so keep safe. Keep watching keep consuming. Keep listening. Keep listening come and check out a show. We tackle media from a sort of globalist perspective. And we we do some really interesting interview work over there anything you just had didn't you just have the someone from Showtime on there? Right? Yes. We did. We had Kate Wagner who was a producer over at Showtime. So they yeah definitely come over check us out. But yeah, stay safe vote Yes, and also if you find watching growing dull Create something and create the thing that you wish that you were watching and it'll probably be pretty good. Yeah. Yeah that that's a really good point. Yeah. Well said, yeah, I I think that's about it for me next week as always with everything going on. It's a a little bit up in the air as to what will be reviewing but Paul you are welcome back any time please come back soon. Yeah, please wage anytime. Yeah. And yeah. So again follow us on social media. That's how you'll stay updated with all the stuff coming soon. Go to the film buds.com and join the mailing list. It's just one email a week and you get you know, updates about film buds music buds, all that good stuff. So do that. Yeah. Okay. Well Paul, thank you. Thank you again song great to see you man. New Adam Sandler Halloween Movie on Netflix

"I, guess sort of mixed reactions in mixed recommendations from me but Brad let's move to you. What have you been watching? I watched another hitchcock remake Huby. Halloween. How many I saw the original but this one is a steep departure. From that. No. This is the new Adam Sandler movie that's on Netflix's Halloween themed obviously, and I went out of my way to watch it because some people including an article that we published on slash home dot com. I don't remember who who wrote it and forcing them. Sir Jacob can tell me here in a second, but they actually said that this movie was funny. And I just WANNA say? No, it's not. I I will say I did laugh a few times during this movie. There are some some funny recurring bits and just a few things that I was surprised just funny jokes that suddenly caught me off guard. But this is just another weird movie were Adam. Sandler puts on a goofy voice and this is one of the voices where you can barely understand what he's saying to because he's mumbling all the time. And it's just has such a weird story and it has these tangents that don't ask anything that don't make any sense like. Shaquille O'Neal's part in particular. Felt like it was super shoehorned. into the proceedings and then. You know you have Julie Garner's character who is yet another woman who is inexplicably infatuated with one sandler's dimwitted goofball characters and I just I don't know how or like. Adam. Sandler his point and like why he's been stuck here for so long 'cause I had also recently rewatch the wedding singer went to talked about in the quarantine stream and recently big daddy because I found out that my parents had never seen and I love both of those movies and they are genuinely hilarious not even just funny by. Adam Sandler movie standards. They're very good comedies and just movies like Cuba Halloween in Sandy Wexler which Steven Brill also directed there. So far, and away you know the kind of comedy that Adam Sandler used to be able to make used to have like characters that were fleshed out and felt real while also being funny and like not just these goofy characters and that's not to say that you can't have comedies that have outlandish characters in them. But whatever Adam Sandler is doing with these kinds

"I don't obviously. But if I did because who cares? We don't care about the money because it's not our money. Well, let's make it your money guys. Would you spend three hundred and fifty million dollars? If feel competent about it on Bryce Harper. No, I wouldn't. But I do want to say thanks to listen to you make a lot of arguments there in the make a lot of sense. But you can't throw the he's never wanna playoff series, Adam. Because you're the one that's been a spa espousing for the golden bat thing there are many times where he doesn't even get a chance to win those playoffs. Series everything else in that sense rival, thank you drag. Well, that's the let's take that have ninety percent of what I say all the time makes sense. Listen. Traits usually fifties ninety. I mean, that's that's pretty good. But that's the problem dry. Problem with baseball. You're going to pay a guy standing Gundy said this yesterday, you're going to pay three hundred and fifty million dollars who comes up four to five times a game. It's ridiculous. And when he comes off you bats to forty eight it's absurd absurd. Absurd. I listen. I agree with you. And yet he's going to get it from somebody. As is Scott Boris, his agent says Harper's bazaar is now open. Okay. We'll see where that goes. All right. Let's go to college. Let's start in basketball for Zion. Williamson RJ Barrick camera Duke. Did it Kentucky? I have said Stuart's gonna make people pay attention to college basketball before we normally do which is after the Super Bowl. Yeah. It made us. I mean, listen, we've never talked about college basketball so early in the season ever in the history of our show, and we were talking about it yesterday because Duke stole the show they stole the sports worlds. I am Williamson. The thing about Zion. Williamson guys he was a YouTube sensation before this. So everyone knew about this. But to see play out against Kentucky article and to see that he's just not a dunker. He's the guy who has actual game. He has range. He has touched. He could distribute the ball. It is it is absolutely breathtaking. It was amazing to watch. And. Yeah, we're all going to tune into watch. These freshmen bly and watched it fifteen play at see if maybe if they can go undefeated. Maybe it'll be the best team ever, which is saying something when you consider the school. We're talking about it was amazing. It was fun to watch. They had made college basketball interesting in a way that it hasn't been the regular season for college basketball in a way that it hasn't been since maybe the fab five I don't know what the last time we were interested in a college basketball team. Yeah. Your rights. Do we we had this note today dukes go to one hundred and eighteen points in that debut? There were twenty NBA teams in action last night and they play eight minutes longer. None of them got one hundred. Yeah. Utah Utah was a crisis. They got one hundred seven Stu, and by the way, they did it against Kentucky, by the way. Kentucky. Jank John Calipari was sitting there with his laws look on his face. And I can't believe that coach K is now doing what I've been doing for years because coach guys going to do it better than I've been doing the thirty four point loss for Calipari. His worst ever as a college or NBA coach going to college football the first two weeks of the rankings. We have pretty much pick who they were going to be where do you see the possibility of a shakeup happening going in the next few weeks? Well, Mike, this is interesting. Right. And I have a question for you guys are related to college football. But this is interesting. So let's say Georgia beats Alabama in the SEC championship game. There's no scenario which Alabama is not getting it. But what happens there? So does Michigan get bounced out? Once Notre Dame get bounced out, Mike, I would ask you this because they put this committee together to have some sort of vision. Where does this not the four undefeated teams make it to the final four, Mike? Michigan played Notre Dame right now the debt are they neutral field who do you think would win that game? Who was the better to there is no way. Saying michigan. Everybody's saying Michigan would blow out Notre Dame Michigan has gotten better. So is Notre Dame? You realize Notre Dame did since that first game. They have a quarterback who leads the nation in completion percentage. Okay. So yeah, he's heard he's going to miss this game. We'll be back next week. So to say that all of a sudden Michigan with blowout. Notre Dame to me is ridiculous has Michigan gotten better. Absolutely. They've gotten better. But you asked me I've already said if Georgia beats Alabama they're both in Clemson wins out there in and if Notre Dame wins out there in and Michigan is going to get left out. Now, Paul finebaum went the other way. He thinks Michigan may get in over. Notre an undefeated Notre Dame team. I don't think that would happen. But then again, I'm not one of the thirteen that are that are picking that are deciding this.

"And we might as well start that story with susan be anthony well that's that's kind of where i started so it is a good place to start that sumei see a few years back she was researching a book about nelly bly it was nelly bly that's what it was right so anneli bly was eight journalist one of the first investigative reporters of any gender and one of the first female reporters of the day ends so she was a feminist and she loves to interview famous women so at one point she interviewed susan be anthony and susan be anthony declared that she stands and salute every time she sees a bicycle and this was the part that really katsumi sees attention she said that bicycles did more to emancipate women than anything else in the world uh and i thought why is this feminist icon talking about a piece of athletic equipment basically yeah i mean when i first read that quote i think that can't possibly be true right right but but it was the 1890s when the bicycle explosion took place in the united states women led rather restrictive lives women's clothing was restrictive they were corsets and maung heavy skirts their movements were restricted unmarried women were rarely allowed to go anywhere without a shop around their physical activity was restricted they were kept indoors to protect their delicate constitution and the bicycle changed all that suddenly they needed clothes that were more practical for riding a bike so for practical reasons clothing started to get more reasonable.
