"Is our producer. The top story we're following for you today is the weather. We hit a record low in D.C. this morning of 3°, something we haven't seen, that kind of cold on a Christmas morning, since 1983. But things are improving. Storm team four, meteorologist Chad Merrill with what's in store. The sunshine this afternoon is really going to warm our temperatures up. We had a high of 22 on Christmas Eve and we're going into the low 30s today. So finally, this Arctic air mass is starting to retreat, but it is a slow process. And our temperatures tonight will be a hair warmer than they were this morning, so we're talking about low 20s, but the suburbs will be a bit colder, but I don't think we're gonna see any single digits. Like we saw last night in early this morning, and then once we go back to work, those going back to work on Monday, it'll be even warmer as a high pressure builds in. So about two or 3° warmer than today, most of us above freezing except along the west of the blue ridge where temperatures will be a little bit cooler. There is still some power outages around here, but not because of demand. It's leftover damage from that windy cold front that blew through on Friday. BGE says a little over 5000 customers are without power, the majority in the Baltimore area, since the Friday storm they've had to restore power to 105,000 customers, the utility says it expects power to be back for the vast majority of its customers by 11 o'clock tonight. The DMV made it through this holiday storm relatively easy considering how bad it is elsewhere. Millions of people are hunkering down to stay warm in a frigid storm that's knocked down power and killed at least 24 people across the country. In Buffalo, in Buffalo, New York, Erie county executive polling car says the blizzard during it. It was impossible to get to people who needed help. There was a period hours straight in which we could not send out emergency service crews. We could not send out department of public work crews because it was too dangerous. The scope of this storm has been nearly unprecedented, stretching from the Great Lakes near Canada to the Rio Grande along the border with Mexico. Here and across the country, people are celebrating Christmas Day.

"Thank you, Chad. It's 6 32. We all know it's cold. Here's what you might not know. Those icy temperatures are straining the electricity grid. So the company that runs it is asking you to conserve power in your home at least until the afternoon. That means lowering the thermostat and turning off appliances you don't need. Because there is a lot of demand during the morning hours, they're hoping you will wait to use the stove, dishwasher, or dryer as well. Meantime, they're still our outages from the time that store moved through. BGE says about 6000 customers area wide, do not have power. Most of its concentrated in the Baltimore area that's down from 85,000 yesterday. BGE says the full restoration process could take several days. Now, local emergency crews are working to restore that power. If it happens to you and you find yourself with lights out, there are some things to do. The biggest cause for outages, by the way, is weather. When the lights go out in a winter storm, blame the wind. They can bring down any weakened branches. Which lands onlines and cuts the power, the Dominion Energy spokeswoman Peggy Fox says there are some steps to take when that happens. First, grab the emergency kit. Well, while it's light outside, make sure you gather things together. Next, fire up the generator. Then check on your neighbors, check on your loved ones. That includes pets and small children. Finally, if it's too cold, you may need to leave your home for a shelter or hotel, but before you go, report the outage. Gigi Barnett, WTO news. In other news today, some unexpected holiday gas dropped off, were dropped off outside the official residence of vice president Kamala Harris house yesterday. CNN quoting a law enforcement source is reporting that several buses arrived outside the U.S. naval observatory in the 18° weather. Initially, two buses dropped about 50 migrants off earlier in the evening. The source adds no one from any organization or aid group on the ground was there to meet the buses, leaving them to shiver in blankets until they could get ahold of family members or someone to pick them up. Still no word who ordered the buses to drive the migrants to the vice president's residence. Christmas morning arrived with sirens and another round of Russian air strikes in Ukraine. They happened in a recently recaptured city of hair zone where ten people were killed, close to 60 injured, including a 6 year old girl. Reports are filled with details on bloodied corpses on the road just as people were beginning to celebrate the holiday.

"Operator for all of Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.. PJM chief communications officer Susan Bueller's as rolling blackouts might be required because the frigid weather is making it difficult for power plants to operate. The storm rolled in and brought some extremely cold temperatures. And some of our power plants were having difficulty operating in the extreme weather. PJM coordinates the movement of electricity for 65 million people across 13 states and the district, they're asking for the conservation efforts to continue through noon today. Meanwhile, there are still thousands in our area without power because of the extreme winter weather we've had over the last few days. BGE says just over 1500 customers at last report were in Howard county were without power. Another a 150 more in arundel county waiting for the lights to come back on. BGE Cecil restoration could take several days. Treacherous driving conditions in the Midwest because of the huge storm caused a huge pileup on the Ohio turnpike. No, Ohio, it's a 46 car pileup that left at least three people dead and several others injured. Those crashes left that turnpike closed for hours. Right now, millions of Americans are dealing with those bitterly cold temperatures. The Midwest slammed by this winter storm, they even had the National Guard help out in northwest Indiana as their roadways turned into sheets of ice. That's fox's Alexis McAdams, meanwhile, New York's governor Kathy hochul is telling people in the Empire State to stay put until they can get the roads back in order. Sometime, hopefully later today. Keep warming centers open, encouraging people to stay home, roads are closed throughout western New York and will be probably through Christmas Day. Hundreds of people trapped in their cars Friday night and early Saturday morning with no way for rescuers to reach them. The weather service expects four to 6 feet of snow will have fallen in western New York by later this morning. It's two 34, some unexpected holiday guests got dropped off outside the official residence of vice president Kamala Harris on Saturday. And BGE reports more than 1700 customers and prince George's county, about 5000 more in Ana rundo county are in the dark, BGE says it could take several days to get everyone back on in their areas. A few thousand customers remain without service this morning. BGE says about 2200 of its customers and Anna rundle county are still without service. The utility is not saying when power may be restored. About 600 dominion customers in Northern Virginia are without power, most of them in fairfax county. Dominion says all affected customers should expect their lights back on by late this afternoon, if not earlier. We'll stay on top of the story and keep you posted with updates. You're paying about 60 to 80 cents less per gallon of gas in this region than you were in early July and all the drivers rejoice. Gaz buddy dot com says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is now $3 90 cents a gallon and Arlington and Alexandria. It's four bucks, 80 cents until we're spring, Rockville, and Frederick, and $4 30 cents in the district. Tom closer, global head of energy analysis for the oil price information service says wholesale prices have dropped dramatically. In many cases, below where they were before the Ukraine invasion. They clean up continues this morning in college park where the national weather service says it was likely straight line winds as high as 90 miles an hour that caused the damage from Tuesday storm. Recovery efforts are focused on clearing roads and gaining access for utility crews. College Park City manager Kenny young says the debris includes very big trees snapped and uprooted. For the most part, you can't miss the trees that have come down there pretty mature trees, significant size. And that's really what slowed things down a little bit. Young says the city is coordinating cleanup efforts with the university of Maryland and the CAUTI. The city has also been provided emergency aid from neighbors, including D.C., Montgomery county, green belt and hyattsville. Particularly on WTO P news. Meantime, a lot of folks, in prince George's still, are waiting for their power to come back more than 24 hours after the storms blew through. Pepco and BGE at last check, reporting about 7000 customers without power in print storage's county. BGE says about 90% of their customers should have juiced back by tonight Thursday night. Pepco says everyone should be back online. Later tonight at 8 p.m., meantime the university of Maryland is in the process of having its power restored. The school is planning for campus operations to resume later today, Thursday, July 14th, but it will not make a final decision on that until later this morning to all you need to do is keep your dial right where it is. "Damage in the hard hit college park area. It's all carnage. It's a lot of trees that have been uprooted. It's difficult to describe just how many trees are split in half or completely ripped from the ground and laying horizontally across roadways. It's everywhere. Trees are down everywhere. Raynard Johnson is using a rake to clear debris from his front yard. We were aware that the storm was going to come through, but we didn't know it was going to hit like this. He says there are cars around here that were crushed by falling trees. So pretty devastating stuff. In prince George's county, Nick all in LA, WTO news. Meantime, a lot of folks from prince George's county still waiting for their power to come back on. More than 24 hours after that storm blew through, Pepco and BGE reporting about 10,000 customers are without power in prince George's county, BG and E says 90% of their customers should have power back on tomorrow night. Pepco says everyone should be back online by tomorrow at 8 o'clock. Fairfax county police, releasing the 9-1-1 dispatch audio related to an incident where police pointed their guns at a teenager, which was captured on camera. The audio details the events that led up to three juveniles being detained around 11 o'clock on Saturday night, including a relay of the call from the hostess of an IHOP on Arlington boulevard who reported being threatened by several teens. Stating that they are about ten mils outside the reference to weapon that was flashed earlier. About 40 hours ago. Has not seen one tonight. The video of fairfax county police pointing their guns at one of the teens was posted on Twitter.

The powerful storm topping the news this morning delivering a destructive blow to only Maryland on Tuesday. We're more than two dozen homes have been damaged. Montgomery county fire chief Scott Goldstein says the Red Cross assisted some families displaced by significant damage to their homes. Only resident Tim Prost says the storm downed numerous trees and limbs and knocked out power. Even when we took a drive to go down side streets, there were trees blocking multiple road entrances, despite the extensive damage there were no immediate reports of injuries in all from the storm. Everyone that I talked to, the neighbors, we've checked on everyone that I've met have all physically been safe. Homeowners quickly got to work, clearing some of the storm debris. Ridiculo WTO knew. As there are, this Wednesday morning still tens of thousands of people in the listening area for power following Tuesday storms and last check in Maryland. Pepco has about 4000 combs and businesses with no juice in Montgomery county. Another 17,000 out in prince George's county BGE says another 10,000 of their customers around in prince Georges, 32,000 homes and businesses in Baltimore or in the dark in Carol county and other 12,000 BGE customers have no power. Now, listen up the university of Maryland is also experiencing widespread power outages. This overnight early morning, the school is apparently using backup operators, generators this morning, and is expected to make a decision formally about the status of campus operations for today by 5 this morning. They believe the responsible behind a series of armed robberies over this last weekend, Sunday. Two people were robbed on their avenue, another on Fenton street, then a fourth attempted robbery occurred in the area of Silver Spring avenue and grove street when that victim ray on the suspect's followed until bystanders intervened and shouted for police. Please say they cornered the suspect's car a white Honda HRV at which point the suspects tried to flee, but ultimately crashed. 16 year old Diego Ramos of Silver Spring, 18 year old Michael Miller of Silver Spring in 19 year old Deion Dickey of Washington, D.C., all face charges, Dickey faces additional charges for the July carjacking of the Honda. What is left of our storms tonight and where are they headed? Let's get a live update now from storm teams for Steve prince of valley. And a good evening, Jenny, as we watch these storms, they are fierce still, south and east of Washington. Thankfully, they are pushing out into the bay right now, but still severe thunderstorm warning technically until 9 45 for southeastern saint Mary's and southeastern Calvert counties. Those areas near lesbian Long Beach still certainly still seeing lightning, rumbles of thunder and rainfall, Lexington beach as well as that storm again pushes eastward into the bay and onto the eastern shore. So that is pushing out. We're also watching a strong storm. It did have a warning with it for portions of culpeper and Orange County. That extends over towards the standards of area, and that is drifting to the south and eastward at about 40 to 45 miles an hour as well. So some gusty winds and downpours expected with that. Thankfully, we are heading to the finish line here of this awful severe weather outbreak. So you're going to throw in a storm watch goes out until 10 p.m., so we're winding down as we lose some of that instability. And also flood watch goes out until midnight tonight. The potential there is still seeing some flooding and we do have one flood warning culpepper falkier, Madison, a rappahannock counties into 11 p.m.. Severe thunderstorm warnings until 8 p.m. for Stafford, Madison, orange, rappahannock, green, falkier, and culpeper counties. Again, for another O 27 minutes until 8 p.m. tonight, that storm near and just south of Warrington stretches towards runnington and culpepper over towards the woodville area and the Madison area stretching back towards Stanley moving in a southeastward fashion, so gusty winds downpours, hail, and obviously a lot of lightning with this storm. Nearly 40,000 homes and businesses in Baltimore are also out and Carol county, another 25,000 BGE customers are in the dark, 4000 more first energy customers are out in that region as well. That in Northern Virginia, Dominion Energy reporting nearly 12,000 homes and businesses with no power in fairfax county between loudoun and Falk here counties more than 7000 more are out in Alexandria about 2000 customers are in the dark this evening. 7 35 and other news to January 6th committee presented testimony today indicating that former president Trump wouldn't give in to advisers recommendations to concede the 2020 election. And the panel says his decision to keep fighting the result, ultimately led extremists and others to take part in the rioting at the capitol. WTO's Mitchell Miller has more from Capitol Hill. Maryland congressman Jamie Raskin says the former president wouldn't let go of the fight to stay in office, and that was even after his White House lawyers battled with election deniers trying to convince him there was no basis for fraud allegations. What ensued was a heated and profane clash between this group and president Trump's White House advisers. What they were proposing that thought was nuts. Former White House lawyer Eric hirschman, referring to calls to have the military seize voting machines, which some made in that meeting. The committee says Donald Trump's subsequent call for people to come to Washington on January 6th, mobilized extremist groups, and they know records show he spoke with adviser Steve Bannon, the day before. All hell is going to break loose tomorrow. The panel's vice chair Liz Cheney also says Donald Trump tried to call a committee witness and the lawmakers have notified the Justice Department. On Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller, WTO. One more January 6th note that's just breaking this hour, the House committee has confirmed to CBS News that the panel will hold its next hearing Thursday, July 21st in prime time.
