Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church Is a Renaissance Man

"Am talking to Douglas Wilson, pastor of Christ church in Moscow, Idaho, the writer of all about a hundred books, and I can't even begin to list them. So you're kind of a renaissance man. You've been doing many, many things over the decades there in Moscow, Idaho, not just pastoring a church, but you found it a publishing company. You started a college. Tell me about these things. Yes, we started first logos school, which is a K through 12 classical Christian school. We started it for my oldest daughter's kindergarten year. And it's now a thriving school and sort of been the flagship school of the renewal of the classical Christian school movement in North America. Excuse me, I ought to have mentioned that upfront. I forgot how central you, sir, have been in the classical Christian movement in America. And so I do want to talk to you about that because that is huge. Absolutely. If you'd done nothing else that is just huge, do me a favor, just tell me how many kids go to the school in Moscow, Idaho. There are about 650, which when you consider the size of Moscow, it's an enormous school for a town on our size. And then the association of classical and Christian schools began here, and they're now hundreds of schools around the country. And some internationally that are following this model of classical Christian education. And then we started a new saint Andrews college, which has got a couple of hundred students in it. It's a small liberal arts college that we patterned ourselves off of the curriculum that Harvard had in the 1600s. So that was the baseline that we began with. And then adapted and modified for our era.

Being Fervent for Jesus

"When we hear the word fervent, we usually think of someone intensely passionate. Maybe they're fervor is about a topic, a belief, or a stance on something important. A believer who is intensely passionate about Jesus is a treasure. Their zeal for Jesus can not only be seen or hurt, but felt in our spirits as well. Hyping blessed to know a few fervent people in my life. One comes to mind right now. His enthusiasm for the things of God is contagious. Spending time with him uplifts me. His passionate about God and the Bible. But it's even more than that. It's a level of joy almost unexplainable with words. The Greek word for fervent as used in Roma's 1211 refers to boiling with heat, or to be hot. It reminds me of a phrase I often hear in the church. That our spirits should be on fire for God. When we're on fire, others can't help but feel a change in the atmosphere around us. A warmth beyond our explanation. Of what a difference it would make if we as believers could understand the power of a fervent spirit. Living with passionate intensity for God in our homes of communities, imagine the lives waiting to be changed with freedom, and forgiveness through Jesus. Happiness fervent spirit isn't always easy. In fact, this verse is tucked in with a few other challenges and scripture, like being patient in affliction, and blessing those who persecute us. Romans 12, 12 and 14. But in his righteousness, God gave us all we would need to live out his call with truth, love, and fervor. So the next time that fervent fire deep within starts to fade. Let's think of that one person. That's picture them. Take note of how they make us feel. And we can call on Jesus to reignite the fire inside of us. May it burn with warmth that can change lives forever.

A Lenten Meditation on John 8:12-20 for the 5th Friday of Lent

"For the next few moments, surrender all the cares and concerns of the stay to the lord. Say slowly, from your heart, Jesus. I trust in you. You. Take over. Become aware that he is with you. Looking upon you with love. Wanting to be heard, deep within your heart. A reading from the holy gospel, according to John, chapter 8 verse 12 through 20. The Jews fetched stones to stone him, so Jesus said to them. I have done many good works for you to see. Works from my father, for which of these are you standing me? The Jews answered him. We are not stoning you for doing a good work, but for blasphemy. You are only a man, and you claim to be God. Jesus answered. Is it not written in your law? I said you are gods? So the law uses the word gods of those to whom the word of God was addressed, and scripture can not be rejected. Yet you say to someone the father has consecrated and sent into the world, you are blaspheming. Because he says, I am the son of God. If I am not doing my father's work, there is no need to believe me. But if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do. Then you will know for sure that the father is in me, and I am, in the father. They wanted to arrest him then, but he alluded them. He went back again to the far side of the Jordan to stay in the district where John had once been baptizing. Many people who came to him there said, John gave no signs, but all he said about this man was true. And many of them believed in him. What word made this passage come alive for you?

Paul Kengor Unpacks the Danger of Biden's GOP Rhetoric

"War in Europe with an open border with rising inflation with a 110 thousand killed by fentanyl in the last 12 months alone. The idea that any leader of any party or an incumbent president would label half the nation as a threat to America as fascists, Paul, that never happened during the Cold War. How dangerous is this is this rhetorical flourish that we are seeing again and again and again from right inside The White House? Well, again, circle back to someone like Ronald Reagan or John F. Kennedy. They never talk that way. In fact, the president, the Reagan defeated the incumbent in 1980, Jimmy Carter never talked that way. I mean, that's over the top, 75 million people voted for Donald Trump, which is a gigantic number. And so to so to speak that way, yeah, it's outrageous and to go back to what we were talking about in the previous segment with what's going on in Ukraine with what Putin is doing. I mean, this ought to be a time for someone like Biden to try to unify the country.

The Major Red Flag of a Potential "TikTok Ban"

"Week, we had senator Josh hawley on the program who laid out a very convincing and persuasive case about how damaging TikTok is to our country and boy do I believe that. It's digital fentanyl. It's helping spread the trans social contagion. It's addicting. Kids to screen time. It is ruining their ability to engage in the real and natural world. It spreads awful elements of social leftism while suppressing conservative speech. The Chinese Communist Party is profiling our children in spying on our children. The Chinese Communist Party is using TikTok as a way to try to remake the youth of America in a weaker direction, TikTok is awful. It's garbage, it's terrible. We're not ever going to defend TikTok. Obviously. And so Washington, D.C., being pushed by the way by the tech companies. This is the first thing that we must understand. Is that out of nowhere? Ex nihilo. Washington, D.C., started to have bipartisan hearings on TikTok? All of a sudden they start to care about the Chinese Communist Party. No, no, no. YouTube who has well over a thousand lobbyists on payroll, Facebook who has hundreds of lobbyists and other tech companies started to build a coalition together to try to get Washington D.C. to ban TikTok and do more than ban TikTok, by the way. It wasn't just about banning TikTok. We'll get into that in a second. But all of a sudden, you started to see Democrats and Republicans agree on something that should just make you take pause. Wait a second. Bipartisanship is not exactly something I trust. That means that you have a lot of people that are going to get very powerful very quickly. Red flag, if you will. And the biggest winner by the way of a TikTok ban would be YouTube owned by Google and we called this 9 or 12 months ago. No one really took us seriously because we're on these platforms so often, but YouTube about a year ago launched YouTube shorts a little bit actually before that, but they've really been ramping it up. And so YouTube would be a major market winner if they are able to ban TikTok because they already have a TikTok lookalike competitor. So

The "Media Literacy" Trojan Horse With Ben Weingarten

"Welcome back, email us freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com and subscribe to the Charlie Kirk show podcast with us now as Ben white garden from real clear investigations. It's a very important story. You're not going to hear it anybody else. And it's seemingly innocuous, seemingly very below the radar and just kind of boring, but no, this is important. Ben white garten has revealed that he's reporting that there is a rise of taxpayer funded media literacy education. It is an effort through K through 12 education to teach young people on what media sources to trust and not trust and Ben joins us now. Ben, tell us about this. Well, thanks for having me, Charlie. And to set the context for this is we've talked about before. There's a war on wrong thing that has gone on in this country and we've seen a mass public private sector censorship regime imposed upon us under the guise of protecting health and public safety. And so that's extended from the national security apparatus and the public health authorities to the big tech companies, corporate media, and beyond. And in media literacy, among folks whom I interviewed and based upon my examination of relevant materials, documents and the groups behind the media literacy push, it should certainly be seen at very minimum as part and parcel responsive to this moral panic over miss dis and Mao information as the powers that be define it. And it's being embedded within schools across the country through growing legislation and oftentimes more and more robust legislation. I talk about in this article in particular, New Jersey, which is mandating media literacy education in its K through 12 curriculum. And media literacy education is defined as. It's defined in the most vague and innocuous as you noted and a dime neutral apolitical kind of terms. Basically, it's you should be able to discern fact from fiction as a student and media literacy education is going to give you the critical thinking tools to determine the veracity of information and the credibility of the sources behind it.

A Look Back at Operation Choke Point 1.0 With Nic Carter

"What I wanted to do today is for folks who have only heard me or others mentioned this idea of operation choke .2 in passing or maybe not sort of super gone deep on it. I want to kind of give a little bit of background context and current history that we're living through. We're recording this literally as there's a Senate hearing discussing some of these issues or at least the supervisory issues around the Silicon Valley valley bank failure. So it's an opportune time, but I think where I'd like to start is actually choke .1. What it was, when did you sort of come into consciousness of it? Let's take it from there. Yeah, it actually really began with online poker. So if you remember online poker were shut down, I believe in 2011. I don't know if you played poker at all. I had a lot of friends who were in that community. So I had friends who were like, I knew all the folks who had started full tilt, which was obviously a big, big piece of that. I was infected by it. Yeah, so I was a victim of choke. .1. And two point I suppose. So basically, the government is always looking for ways to tackle industries that they dislike. And sometimes you can't just pass a law outlawing them. They have to be really unpopular for that. What they realized was bank regulators realized they could start to marginalize otherwise legal industries by cutting off their bank access. This playbook was developed partially initially to deal with the online poker sites, which then I think they were effectively outlawed or at least it was black Thursday. It was black day of the week when basically all the poker size got taken down. But that was sort of the start. That's what people credit as the store. This is around 2011, 20 12. And then following that the playbook was actually put into effect in, I would say 2012, 2013, to target payday lenders. Now no one likes painting lenders. So, you know, they're not a very sympathetic target, but also they weren't illegal. So the question was, how does the government tackle this industry? Well, they just went to the banks that the pavilion owners used and told them, you know, we think that you're dabbling in an industry that is going to bring a lot of reputation risk on you the bank. And if you don't cut them off, we're going to investigate you. We're going to do a full audit full investigation. And this was the FDIC was the primary regulator doing this. In conjunction with the Department of Justice. And because banks are highly regulated institutions, I would argue they're basically part of the state. They can't really afford to piss off their regulator.

Dr. Thomas Williams Comments on the Nashville Controversy

"Let's talk about persecution here and now and in the United States and in the west. I'm thinking specifically if we begin with the Nashville mass shooting, which is on a lot of people's minds, the shooter wrote a manifesto. And it seems probable when we haven't seen this manifesto that it's full of anti Christian rhetoric. It lays out the kind of trans motivations. In other words, we don't have a trans shooter who just happens to be a criminal, but we have someone who is motivated by trans ideology and seems to be targeting specifically Christian children at a Christian school that is appended to a Christian church, and yet the police and the FBI are not releasing the manifesto. I find this in itself interesting because I say to myself, well, listen, if it was a white supremacist who said I'm doing this in the name of white supremacist ideology and here's my 12 pages laying out why I'm doing it, that would be deafening scream across the media, release the manifesto, let us be aware of how serious the problem is. So I'd like you to just comment on where we are now with this particular controversy where we can't figure out clearly the full motivation of the shooter, not because it doesn't exist, but because it's not being shown to us. Yeah, the paradox is really abound in this particular case. The fact, as you say, that, I mean, the first thing you would insist on, reasonable journalists would say, well, show us, we got to know. I mean, obviously the reason is all there, why would you not want the public to have access to this? And it's very strange. It does unfortunately be speak, you know, a lot about this particular administration. President Joe Biden has been a huge advocate of transgenderism, even among children. And so this is something that kind of part and parcel with the position that his administration has taken. But still, there should be more outrage, even on behalf of just on a secular media who are looking at this and saying, well, we have to know. Even if we don't like what we read, we have to be able to report on this that people have a right to know.

I stopped transitioning roughly about a year afterward at 16. And I've been speaking about my story since last year. Well, great. Well, thank you for sharing that. So Chloe, what is your current opinion? What should we know about, let's just say the drugs that are given to children or people that want to change genders, what it can do to you specifically, whether it be SSRIs or whether it be the generic is really called bupropion or the brand name. I believe it's called wellbutrin. I might be mispronouncing that. "b 12" Discussed on Monocle 24: The Globalist

"So yes, we expect people will be reducing their spending and we're already seeing, in fact, house prices beginning to stabilize a bit and the construction activity suddenly declining. So yeah, there are some very worrying signs there which we probably get worse in the months ahead. And if you are a company which uses a lot of energy, what's going to happen to you? I mean, the UK government yesterday had meeting upon meeting. With the big energy firms. But is there help along the way? Yes, there is. I mean, it's interesting that energy companies that are quite sorry, companies that are quite energy intensive, have been asking for quite some time to get some extra help from the government because they believe that they're paying an awful lot more for their electricity, for example, than is the case in Europe. And that will be very uncompetitive. In fact, the calculations are that something like over 60% more. That which is not good news and given everything that's happening, then it's understandable that they would want some extra support. It's taken a little bit of time for that support, in fact, to come. So we had a package in April, which took away some of the payments that energy intensive interested to make, or at least a discount given for contributing to being part even of the carbon price mechanism we have here in the UK. Which is in a link to the not exactly any longer. But to the European trading scheme emissions rating scheme that exists. So they got the carbon in adjustment for the carbon obligation that they have. Now they've got an adjustment also for the renewables payments that they have to make. So that's actually quite substantial drop in the cost that they have, which is very, very welcome by the sector. So that's one big decision. There seems to have been made, even in the absence of having a workable government in the UK. Well, this is the big question, isn't it? We don't seem to have a workable government at the moment given the fact that Rishi sunak and Liz trust are fighting head to head with very different approaches. Yesterday, the Rishi sunak currently standing quite a lot way behind Liz truss is saying that he wants to cut energy bills. I mean, how much is that going to change the minds of the watt 200,000 people who are part of the Conservative Party who will ultimately be choosing our next prime minister here in the UK? It's a very good question. It seems that the majority for the moment at any rate, quite like to see the tax cuts, which is what this trust is talking about. But we do know that for the population or we'll see, of course, things may change and for the moment it is stress seems to be ahead. We should soon proposing a more if we want to call it out of conventional approach raised quite carefully about the finances, but at the same time, though, what seems to be happening is that he's offering a lot more sort of increasingly. And there is no doubt we're in the middle of a crisis. You can't avoid that, but just rhetoric. Whoever is elected is going to have to do something pretty major. So the latest theme for which is to find an extra sort of 10 billion to use to cut. Household bills and other question is how is he going to get it? There is now a talk of a windfall tax being extended to more companies and to last for longer because we really have one announcement for the oil and gas sector. So that's basically where we are at present and I'm suspecting that even if it is this trust, for example, who talks about tax cuts and not extra spending, I would imagine that again that money that will be needed for households will be a mix of perhaps redirecting cash from elsewhere. We are doing this have been quite high, for example, chemical gains tax receipts have been very high variety, of course, high because of the high prices, you know, 7% of the 80 collects an awful lot more in terms. So you've had also lots of people in them employments or before we get to to depress unemployment is still very low at picking with 8%. Vicky, we'll have to leave it there. Thank you so much for joining us on monocle 24.

"He burned his boat. He burned his boat. He's almost like a sacrifice. It was. He did it as a statement. He did it as a expression of pain and anger. Lambert Cobb made this sacrifice once he realized that those big boats were in his words turning fish into money. He said to me, it was a ten year old. You have got to figure out how this money thing works because if you don't, it's going to eat everything we love. He wasn't wrong, as fish stocks dwindled, so did the island's population. From 5000 to 2500. The cobs left grudgingly for the mainland in the 1970s. Vida Cobb's father died shortly thereafter. But she heeded his advice. She got a business degree, worked in fiber optics, landed in Silicon Valley, and before long was the third highest paid female executive in America. In her early 40s, she cashed out tens of millions in stock options, dropped out of the winner take all economy and took her business savvy home, determined to revitalize fogo island. Instead of writing a check, she posed a question. What do we have and what do we know and how can we put that forward in a way that's dignified for islanders? And creates economy and.

"Everything. Thinking of everything took more than 25 years and $10 billion. Engineer Amy Lowe explained the challenge. In my mind, the biggest engineering challenge was to build a sunshield capable of shielding the optics, the mirrors and the instrument on web. How do you build something big, the lightweight? The sun shield keeps web cold and dark. Any infrared heat from the sun or earth would blind the telescope. The 5 layers are made of Gossamer sheets, not unlike mylar birthday balloons. The layer facing the sun is layer one and layer one reaches about 230°F. So a pretty warm oven like if you wanted to cook a meringue or something. And on the telescope side. On the telescope side, it gets to negative 370°F. There's a roughly 600° difference. There is between one side of the heat shield and the other. Yes, it's amazing that it's able to do this with nothing more than these layers. The engineering is amazing, but the science may reveal the universe. Since the beginning, the Big Bang, the arrow of time has flown nearly 14 billion years. Webb may see all the way back to the first 100 million. The baby universe. Powerful telescopes that amber straw is an astrophysicist on the project. Telescopes really are time machines. They literally allow us to see into the past. And the reason for that is just due to the nature of how light travels. Light from the sun takes about 8 minutes to get to the earth. So we're seeing the sun as it was 8 minutes ago. And you can sort of think about stepping that further out into the universe. So when we walk out under the stars and look above us, we're not seeing the stars as they are today. We're seeing them as they were, perhaps millions of years ago. Absolutely. Because it took that long for the light to reach the earth. Yes, for sure. How much do we know about the universe? Everything we know about. Everything we can see, me and you, everything on the planet, all the hundreds of billions of other galaxies. All of that only makes up about 5% of the universe. The rest of it that other 95%, we have no idea what it is. That 95%, the unknown is all around us like a ghost. Nearly all the cosmos is made up of what physicists call in desperation, dark matter and dark energy. Never seen scientists infer they must exist because they're the best explanation for how galaxies form and move. So we know that dark matter is sort of the scaffolding of the universe. It's the structure on which galaxies sit. And if there wasn't dark matter, there wouldn't be galaxies in there wouldn't be us. What might the web telescope reveal about dark matter? It's like we have this 14 billion year old story of the universe, but we're missing that first chapter. And Webb was specifically designed to allow us to see those very first galaxies that formed after the Big Bang. Now, galaxies are born, and then they evolve. They change over time. And this way that galaxies change must rely critically on dark matter. And web is going to allow us to observe that process of galaxy evolution in much more detail. The promise of discovery shielded web on what's already been a treacherous journey. It was to launch 7 years ago, but delays come with a machine this ambitious..

"I think they can unfreeze the funds for the health sector of the organism. It is very important and it's the need of the time. The international community has spoken pretty clearly and said, they're not going to unfreeze funds unless there's a guarantee that all girls will be educated in Afghanistan is the Taliban willing to consider any kind of movement in that area. I think it's a political issue. Education is a separate chapter and a department and health is a different department. What I hear you saying is you want to keep health separate from the idea of education. Yeah, why they are mixing the two different topics. Because I think the idea that, you know, educating women is good for the health of the country. Yes, there's no doubt. But the minister would not go further on concessions for girls high school and university education. 9 days ago, the Taliban issued a decree banning both forced marriage and treating women as property. But there was no mention of allowing women to work outside the home. Soon after, the World Bank released $280 million in aid for Afghanistan. A small portion of the $1.5 billion frozen by the World Bank. Vicky Aiken has led the U.S. based international rescue committee in Afghanistan for four years. We need to figure out a system for continuing to support just basic services like education and healthcare. The previous government 75% of their budget was funded by development donors. 75% of the government budget was funded by donations. Yeah. And so healthcare education have dried up. Yeah, and there's still no clear way forward. So her staff of 1200, mostly locals, interview families in the neediest neighborhoods. That's how they found Myra 19 years old, she fled eastern Afghanistan three months ago with her two children. What kind of challenges have you faced? I faced a lot of problems. I couldn't support my children to buy something like food or clothes. The international rescue committee gave her about $400 to get blankets and food for winter. But they are fearful their funds could run out. If the aid wasn't here, what would that mean to your family if there wasn't this help? I wouldn't be able to support my family or children. I'm really thankful for them Monday. What does $400 mean to a family in this moment? It means everything in this moment. I mean, we see a lot of cases where people might send their children off to work. Including as young as 5 or 6, you know, they might sell their daughters into marriage. And now it sounds horrendous. But when you have a family of, say, 8 people and you have no means to feed everyone and they see that as their only option, humanitarian leaders say, without swift action, more people in Afghanistan could die of hunger next year than from the violence of the past 20 years of war..

"He explained how their relationship with the Taliban has evolved over the years. Has the Taliban said to you, we want you here. We need you here to help us. Yes, absolutely. From the beginning. And we've said from the beginning, that we would be uncompromising when it comes to girls education, when it comes to making sure that women can work. Since August 15th, have they been more or less receptive to what you have to say and what other NGOs have to say. They are receptive now in the sense that they're realized that with power comes the responsibility to do something for the population of Afghanistan. They realize they have that responsibility and in that sense they're willing to have those discussions. Because of those discussions, UNICEF is now able to access communities previously off limits. We traveled with them and their government mandated Taliban escorts to one of those places. So we are in more deck province, which is about two hours from Kabul. And the reason that this road is so bumpy is because there were so many IEDs here. This was a Taliban stronghold for about a decade, so groups like the UN would never have dreamed of coming out here. It was the first time UNICEF had been to this rural area in 12 years. What's the theory about how and the first time they were able to lay eyes on one of the results of their negotiations with the Taliban? This community based school for girls. For how many of you girls is this your first year at school? Raise your hand. The youngest girl here is 6. The oldest 12. Many of them told us they hoped to be doctors. The school and 4500 like them operate with the Taliban's blessing. How did that happen? You know, this was a province that was controlled by the Taliban for a decade. How do you get to them and say we want to have a school here? Talking to them, explaining the difference it makes. The discussions we're having with Taliban don't start from scratch. That confidence that was built over the years in the air as they controlled that trust is starting to build. What we saw in that school was heartwarming, but we know there are a million girls in high school who are not going to school. We know that there are no women being allowed really to attend college in any way. Are you making any grounds in that area? We are making some grounds, but not enough. That's so what we hear from Taliban is they want to do that in the way that is keeping with the culture that the culture of the country. And so we need to find a way to do that. This country needs everybody's strength. Hello. After months of negotiations, we were granted access to meet doctor calendar abad the newly appointed health minister of the Taliban. A 41 year old physician, he was educated in Pakistan. And we were a little uneasy when he invited us to eat with him and other Taliban leaders in the basement of one of their buildings. He agreed to speak to us about the health crisis facing the country. But he told us he didn't want to discuss politics. Taliban gunmen kept watch over the interview. Some of the humanitarian workers we spoke to said that the country is on the verge of its worst humanitarian crisis ever. Do you believe that to be true? We are on the edge of this crisis. I remember that the funds are freed by the international community..

"I mean greg. How important is it for the acc overall to have a team like north carolina. Step up and be really good doesn't necessarily have to be north carolina. It could be miami. Could be virginia tech guys. Don't sleep on. nc state. they're going to be too so it doesn't really matter but there needs to be some quality depth in the league. We've seen years like two years ago. Where the acc was clemson. And then a bunch of teams that were eight or nine wins very average teams. That were extremely inconsistent. That's not good for the leak. Last year. Notre dame being in the acc was a real benefit because it made the conference championship game. The biggest game on the schedule for the acc made it. Extremely compelling and a lot of storylines going into that game because notre dame beat clemson in the regular season so i think north carolina needs to step up and play big. I think miami and to have a really good performance in week. one against alabama. I think florida state has a huge opportunity in week. One against notre hosting the irish the irish having to fill a lot of holes and then the aforementioned virginia tech and a few other teams. So there's a lot of teams. I'm expecting to grow significantly. And i actually think that when we fast forward to the end of the year the acc is going to be viewed alongside that of the sec in the big ten as one of the deeper more quality leagues when that hasn't been the case in recent years. I think the reason i focus on the need for north carolina be good is partially because we fell in love with mack brown and fell in love with the job. He's done recruiting. It's also the establishment of a new brand of football team felt like north carolina was taking a big step forward. Miami's been there before. So that's part of it. Speaking of all conferences. We've got some media days that you need to know about a media days coming up tomorrow. Which means somehow someway will again be talking about super-conferences and playoff expansion. Because that's what we do every single day and it's all texas and oklahoma oklahoma's fault. I don't know if texas is really the right way to say that. I'm not smart enough. "App. Our inching closer to the start of the season one month from today. We get to huge matchups in college. Football sam howell. In north carolina taken on virginia tech and the big ten delight mel tucker trying to get sparty back on track against pat fitzgerald and north western. So with these two big games. Coming harry we'll start with you. Which are you the most pump for. I'm excited for this north western michigan state game. I know that sounds kind of weird. But honestly i wanna see how mel tucker is going to have this michigan state team looking. He came into a really really bad situation last year. Obviously with the pandemic he did not have a spring to get his guys ready. He came in after the february signing period so he didn't have a whole lot to work with their one of their bigger ones. Last year came against north western so from their perspective. I know pets fitzgerald is going to have that team ready to go. They your team. But i think this is one of those classic than big ten matchups very leash and being entertaining game. Start off the season. I can promise you that game's going to be physical. Will there be a lot of speed on display. That's to be determined. Hope for both their sake. There are a little faster and more athletic. this year. the game that. I'm paying more attention to the athletic game. That's the game between north carolina and virginia tech. And guys this is just a point days swansong if they don't get things going in the right direction at virginia tech he came in and said. Hey we're going to score a bunch of points. We're going to develop quarterbacks and it hasn't really worked. They've had to sub five hundred seasons especially last year. Where they were atrocious on the side of the football by their standards and very inconsistent offensively and then conversely you gotta team in north carolina the first week of the year. A lot of people think they're the dark horse darling in the acc. But there's a lot of pieces to replace around sam howell so this is a massive game. It wouldn't shock me. Guys at the winner of this game found themselves winning the coastal division of the acc representing that side of the league in the acc championship. So to have this one in week. One is pretty remarkable. You know you mentioned the talent. And i think we all saw that when we were prepping for the draft like. There's a moment where you reminded how much. Nfl caliber talent was on the offensive side of the ball particularly for north carolina. Harry when you look at north carolina what should we expect from them this year. We're going to have to hope or at least they're going to have to hope that sam. How really plays a little bit more precisely this year just because of that talent that you guys mentioned it's not going to be there and that's not to say that they don't have other talent behind them ready to come up but you lost a lot of actual real first round second round. Nfl talent and so yeah. He's going to have to be a little bit more perfect this year. I think that obviously he's going to be in the heisman race. But i think another thing with carolina team is they return ten guys on defense and that is going to hopefully for sam how it will be something that he could lean on a little bit more but also a side of the football that they can create turnovers and things of that nature to help them kind of keep this thing on the wheels and it doesn't hurt that they are avoiding clemson on the schedule. I mean greg. How important is it for the acc overall to have a team like north carolina. Step up and be really good doesn't necessarily have to be north carolina..

"Season with the type. That's most of any coach in the major poll air. You can see some of his accomplishments there but of no he enters the season with two hundred. Fifty six wins. That's more in epi s history. So now the real question mcelroy becomes. He's got eight years left. Seventy plus twenty already had. Can you get three hundred. And fifty wins in your. Let's go for three fifty one hundred more wins going to bet against them willing to do so especially if they expand what might be into a twelve team playoff which had had a couple more games. So we're looking at a team that could average thirteen. Fourteen wins a year on average over the last several. That's been about where he's been especially to- kobe last year. I mean they won the national championship. So i'm not willing to bet against him. That's that's for sure. And i think to me seventy years old and seventy in october technically on halloween. So he's almost seventy but it doesn't feel like seventy and has been around them. They sense that youthful exuberance. The almost gets younger on annual basis. So it's pretty amazing how long he's likely to be there and i wouldn't be surprised. Saw every single dollar in that contract. And he's there for every single year harry. Yeah greg honestly. I agree with you. I think it's totally possible i. I'm at a point. Now with alabama. Where like i just. I expect them to win every game even this. Perhaps they've lost all twenty two starters. That's just what they are at this point. I think that's a testament to how great nick sabin is. I will say this. I kind of hope he doesn't get the three hundred and fifty wins. And it's not because i'm rooting against alabama or nick. Sabin or anything like that. I think nick sabin has had a beautiful career. He's built alabama back into this thing that just nobody can stop. You can only hope to get as close to them as possible. And i think that nick sabin should go enjoys spoils go hang out with misteri right. Go enjoy nice cool drink by a lake or something like that and just enjoy the fact that you are the greatest college football coach of all time when you're the greatest though. You never wanna stop being the greatest. I'm just saying greg. You make your point playoff expansions only gonna give him more wins in this process. So i'm taking the over pound the over all day long all right. That's not the only team that we're talking about college football. "A timeline for his return from the injury to his non throwing arm is as of now still unclear. Byles brandon lead lsu to a one two record last season before suffering a season injuring injury versus missouri. Max johnson on the other hand to know starter for the tigers recording a touchdown to interception ratio of eight to one so we expected a battle. Now we're not going to get that battle in. It raises the question of. What's next at the quarterback position greg mcelroy. How much pressure is there. On max johnson. Now that he's essentially been handed this job well stepping into shoes like starting quarterback at lsu. There's always going to be pressure. But i would actually say the pressure has been lifted significantly. Now knowing that he doesn't have to share reps he can focus exclusively on himself without having to look over his shoulder and potentially getting replaced. I think when a quarterback doesn't have anyone pushing in behind him then there's no pressure there go out there and sling it and if you throw four picks five picks yeah it's not ideal but hey guess what. We don't have anyone better so go out there. Play freely and do everything you can to just not worry about anything other than your own performance. So i think there's no pressure and the fact now that he's going to get every single first team rep to prepare for the season. He's going to come in more prepared. Because you're gonna come in with better chemistry with as wide receivers and i also think too. He's going to put them in a position. I think early in the year to get off to a good start and probably surprised people. Because that's a talented roster guys that i feel pretty good about and i don't think enough people are talking about so harry. Let's stick with the pressure conversation but from a different angle. Right like coach o. Came into a national championship season under some pressure wins at all that changes but last year was a disappointment. How much pressure going into this season is there on ores era. I do think that there is a measure of pressure you know. Obviously the pandemic season was difficult for everybody and they just had an atrocious defense. Got your defensive coordinator. Switch there obviously with both leany out but you know having the national championship season. That they had twenty nine thousand nine especially. That was one of the best college football teams we've ever seen right. We all know that his sports that buys you a lot of good faith that buys you more time things of that nature. But i do think that this is a big season for him and i do think that something else that we have to consider. Here is the allegations against him that he handled sexual misconduct allegations that were brought to him improperly or poorly so i do think that this is a big year for him. I do think that he would benefit from a good season And that this is not something that he can take lightly in in that You know this this year is going to be big for him. They were going to have to put up big numbers and you know win some games..

"For another day closer to start a college football season we got huge injury. News that will rock one of the biggest brands in college football. We've got a quarterback in the acc that saying. Hey let's pay attention to teams other than clemson down here but we're another day closer. That means we get more developing news in the never ending saga of the big twelve. Greg mcelroy harry allows junior jason fitz. This is college. Football live as reported initially by the athletic and confirmed by. Espn big twelve. Commissioner bob bos be is scheduled to meet with pac twelve. Commissioner george click on tuesday. The discussions could go several ways from merging just forming a scheduling alliance. Which sounds like something straight out of a reality show. This is what bowles said monday. When he was speaking to the texas state senate regarding a potential merger there could be a scheduling alliances as an example or there could be an agreement to keep conferences separate but to aggregate are negotiating rights on For the For our television or are streaming You know this is going to make for some very strange bedfellows. going forward These are these are unprecedented challenges. Feel like unprecedented. Should be shot game at this point. All right greg mcelroy when you look at the pac twelve in the big twelve who needs this merger more. The big twelve fits and it's because they're essentially on life support because as of right. Now harry there's not an a-list brand right now that's in the big twelve with all respect to the quality of play we've seen from teams in that league including that of iowa state oklahoma state. Tcu all of which had been knocking on the door of college football playoff including baylor by the way who not just won the nc double a basketball tournament but almost made the play-offs a couple years ago themselves. All of which are not necessarily going to move the needle on a national scale whereas the pac twelve all beit and a little bit of financial disarray in the distribution of their network is problematic. They still have the usc and they still have oregon and those two programmes in themselves can carry the weight of the entire league because of the notoriety and the long term history. Those programs have so. I think that that's something to consider when the big tools making this merger because it could be very advantageous them. Yeah greg and you know. I think one thing to keep in mind here in commissioner k kind of said this when he was talking about it was their conference still has swelled teams You know. I know that the move for texas and oklahoma to the sec has a lot of us talking about super-conferences right in those are the biggest brains football going to already the strongest conference in every single way. But i think there's two ways that the super conference thing really happens here right and it's a power like an ohio state. That is outside of the sec footprint. Trying to get into the sec and then that's where we start seeing all these teams trying to merge and do all these things or. It's the situation right here where you have the big twelve in the pack twelve saying. Hey maybe we could join forces and then that becomes its own super conference so i think as far as these goes the big twelve absolutely needs us more than the pac twelve. Does i think they could still stand on their own feet albeit. They're playing from behind against the sec. Like everybody else's at this point. All i'm gonna say guys is good thing. Most of us are bad geography. Because i don't want anyone to try and look at a map to figure out how the big twelve in the pac twelve.

Take up but you cannot longer just to throw in for free budge aftershocks tradition but it does pay into. Okay let's grow. The number of crime took lie bus. But what this guy's the limits like Told you are not available. Etta compete on products. Or you're always screw So if they behave like a real traditional media company i think than they would untethered channel completely make it a beta bit every rail without the need for quite subscription. But she i think amazon. It's here no there. It's like okay test to contribute somehow to the prime business but you also have to wanna ties it incrementally Mix of both. But i think. And i don't expect a step i don't know but offering it's completely standalone without going trust to prime that would be like a tradition media company and he had still like having those secondary objectives in mind. Ben buying birthrights. Mario what do you think. The one thing i would add would be that. I still think that very opportunistic..

"While the civil suit against dan awake was taking place. Louis petr had been serving out his sentence of eight years in georgia. Prison patter would go on to serve seven. Just shy of his full sentence. Pedder had been tried for parole in one thousand nine hundred ninety two and was initially denied after a flood of calls were made to the parole board. However on january twenty third one thousand nine hundred ninety six at the age of seventy six lewis. Patter was granted parole with the stipulation that he remained on probation and that he not returned to douglas county or have any contact with minors by nineteen ninety. Nine pedder attempted to appeal the ruling that he not be allowed to return to douglas county due to the fact that his probation officer had been moved to douglas county. The appeal was upheld considered moot. The governor of georgia at the time was roy. Barnes a former attorney barnes represented in a wiki during litigation over its status as a nonprofit in nineteen eighty s. It is this same year that the long outdated sodomy law in georgia was overturned due to this overturning of the sodomy law lewis patter would no longer have to have his name on a sex offenders list. Pedder would soon. After attempt to overturn his conviction as sodomy was no longer against the law. His reason for doing so was that he could quote travel out of the country to see family and visit property. He owns in mexico for the last years of his life. Louis petr would live in a small ranch home in lawrenceville georgia with his wife. Mabel and two german shepherds header would go on to live another nearly twenty years as a freeman former patient. Kelly lewis says that after reconnecting with other survivors. She went on what she called. Headers death watch when we began the first. It was message boards back in the eighties for anna wiki survivors. And we would get on these message boards and we would yellen scream at each other but we also had very close bonds to each other. We went through trauma together. So when you as a child go through trauma you bond with the people who help you through it. And i'm still very very close with a lot of people who went to an awake with me. I mean to the point of where i see them. What a month twice a month. They come to my house eat food and and we go and do events together and and that kind of thing. I'm very close to them. And i remember at one point people arguing after mabel petters death i found mabel patters obituary online and i posted it. I can't remember at the time if we had a facebook group or if it was a message board but i think it was a facebook group. We had graduated from Know the dial up squealing to real internet and we were on facebook and i remember announcing and posting the obituary and it said she was survived by her husband. Louis powder so. It was at that time that i went on death. Watch and that's what i ended up calling it. I went to obituary dot com. And i had them send me a notice every month to tell me if there had been any petters who had an bitchy wary and for years. I didn't trust it. So i would actually drive by his house to see if he's still lived there and eventually he didn't live at his house anymore. He was probably and i guess this probably some sort of nursing home. He was a very old man when he died now. The first time. I saw house how shocked because it was just a brick ranch house. I expected that he lived in this. Big beautiful fancy house but he didn't so i remember going by his house. I would draw by his house to see if you still live there. And i could tell that. He lived there because of the dogs there because he had german shepherds with him at all times. It was known that no matter where he went. Those dogs went with him. They were trained german shepherds and they were with him all the time so when i would drop by his house if i saw the dogs in the yard i knew that he was still living there and then the dogs weren't there anymore and i started panicking because i didn't know how to trace him anymore and i would express this on the facebook page to other people who went to an wiki and i ended up going to wear mabel was buried to see the gravestone and i saw that his marker was next to hers and it had a birth date on it but the death date was still open and that cemetery actually was not too far from the house that i lived in atlanta for eleven years so for eleven years at least a month i would go by the cemetery to.
