So yeah, so in the late 80s, early 90s, I got this job that I've started director of gravity, and I thought, who can I turn to who could write these stories? So you did just great work. And rabbit ears would, so we create this children's book, but then we get top Hollywood names to record them. I think the Davy Crockett was like Nicholas cage. And sacagawea, I don't remember who did that one. I'm pretty sure it was mom's maybelle. I'm almost, I'm almost certain that I don't. It was either mom's maybelle or Sinatra. Either one. One of those two. But then we would get amazing musicians. Garrison keeler. Yeah. Can you use his name now? Is it safe to say garrison? I think he wants his touched a woman's back. When they were taking a photo and he lost his career over that thing. Goodness. Marco Connor, the fabulous Marco Connor, did the music for that. It was quite a fantastic production of video. Well, that's the point is that the rabbit hair stuff was super accurate to one tons of awards. So I had the privilege of writing many of those. And my name is attached to these Grammy Awards for best children's recording 1989 or something like that. I think that one too. Yeah, I know. It's crazy. So but that's kind of like the last time I saw you in person. Was 1991.
Elaine Parker: Explaining the 'Rock the Woke' Campaign
"I saw the billboard. You keep putting these billboards up in Times Square. You talk about going right into the belly of the beast. I love, I love rock the woke dot com where you're standing up to the woke lunatics who are trying to infiltrate corporate America. Tell us about the billboard campaign and bring this up to date on this fabulous rock the woke campaign, the job creators network has embarked upon. Well, if you remember, rock the book kind of came out of our shareholder initiative called border re initiative. And that was rock the wook was kind of a parody of the old MTV rock the vote if you remember it. And it just is an opportunity for us to shame these corporations publicly. And give the public a platform to shame them as well. And it's just really kicking the crap out of these corporations that continue to step into the cultural wars. Instead of focusing on what their missions are, you know, whether it's to preserve shareholder value for their shareholders or to be profitable and create jobs for their employees so that they have stable employment. That's the mission of these companies. It's not to step into these cultural awards. And try to shift public opinion and to the liberal views in this country.

Caller: Criminals Would Think Twice if Someone Was Armed
"Let me just make one comment about auburn university because I was born and raised in Alabama and what we call auburn is a very good school to go to if you can't afford to go to a very good school. Well, there you go. I'm not going to get into that bite. I'm a Tennessee fan, so I've already got a dog in the fight. We got our own problems. I understand. Let me just say that I'm a retired marine 24 expert marksmanship awards in the Marine Corps and I'm a Christian man. I'm an older white man considerably older than you and let me just say that in the county that I live in here in North Carolina, there are more concealed carry holders than you can shake a stick at and if somebody wants to pull out a gun and start shooting people, he's going to get weighed down by a crowd of armed people. As well it should be Philip and I think when the bad guys understand that, you know, when they, when they know that, hey, look, there's a pretty good chance people here are packing heat, or if a homeowner is packing heat and is well protected, you think you think the bad guys are going to think twice before they knock in that front door. That's exactly right. That's the entire point of the Second Amendment.
What Is the Frank Newman Award?
"What is the Frank Newman award? In recognition of coordinated approach to educating all students from preschool to post secondary with explicit attention toward whole child supports and services. As well as its historic financial investments. To ensure educational equity. I gave it away. Gave it away. That's right. Now, increasingly, virtually all California students will fail. That's equity everybody. I deserve the Frank Newman award. I gotta say.
What's Next for the Supreme Court?
"The long way for ro continues in legacy media. I mean, we're going to have this for a year. They're going to have 6 Shiva for a year over roe V wade and Planned Parenthood to be Casey. Meanwhile, the states are moving back to what they ought to be doing. I want to look ahead. I've done what's code as did a lot. I've written three Washington Post columns on West Virginia university alone. I want to look ahead to the next term, because I think it's going to be as big at least on the ending of use of race to award benefits or inflict penalty. And many other, what's ahead, Ilya, for next year. It's going to be another big term the court's not taking a year off. There is affirmative action in Harvard and UNC. There's the case called three O three creative, which builds on masterpiece cake shop, the baker who didn't want to make a cake for a same sex wedding. This time it's a graphic designer and a website. So no question that this is First Amendment protected activity, big cultural case. You mentioned West Virginia university, PA, which I think is the longest lasting decision this term prudentially. Next term a case like that also involves the EPA, but the clean water act and regulating the so called waters of the United States. If they're navigable, navigable waters, even if it's puddles, the EPA comes in and you can't build on the land, the case called sackett, second time that litigation has gotten to the Supreme Court. And California has been regulating the rest of the country. You might have heard in lots of different ways. There's a pork producer's case. You're thinking, agricultural regulation, California. Why is that important? Well, when they set the standard, whether it's for emissions, for agriculture, it's not like manufacturers, agricultural companies do one thing for the California market and another thing for the rest. So that sets national standards. And so there's something that lawyers call the dormant commerce clause or a state regulating interstate commerce that comes up. That's just a few of the big cases. And there's more. Election regulation, of course. When a state court rewrites what the legislature has done, this came up a number of times in Pennsylvania in the last election, but this is a case out of North Carolina. So the court is going to decide that, hopefully, once and for all.

Joe Sakic Wins the 2022 NHL 'GM of the Year' Award
"Joe sakic Wednesday NHL GM executive of the year award and so deserving and again, it's a regular season award that was voted on, but boy, it would have looked kind of silly to have given it to somebody else after you saw the way the avalanche went out and won the cup. In large parts of the moves he made, man. He pushed every button and hey, we've been pretty lucky here in this town to watch. Guys that were great athletes championship athletes also kind of show their chops as an executive. First John Elway and now, Joe sack, yeah, and that's pretty rare. Isn't it? To have a guy who's awesome on the ice or on the field, be able to spot talent and have and have a knack for putting a team together and understanding the levers to pull in the buttons to push, 'cause a lot of guys man, a lot of guys are just instinctively so good and they can't explain why and they can't put it together and I know some will accuse John Elway of having a little bit of that later in his career, but he brought us another Super Bowl as an executive and Joe sacking, this award much deserved to me, you look at Jared bednar and that's Jared bednar is just a reflection of Joe sakic's approach and just trusting him to get his team on the right track. A guy who was not well known and gave him the reins and so much deserved a joke sacking and let's go get another

"Coach i ever wanted to thank you for tuning into the four hundred. Sixth episode of awards chatter the hollywood. Reporter's awards podcast. I'm the host scott feinberg and my guest. Today is a trailblazer and a living legend. A woman best known for her performances in movie musicals such as nineteen fifty two singing in the rain. Nineteen fifty six's the king. And i and especially nineteen sixty one's west side story for which he won the best supporting actress academy award making her the first ever latina oscar winner. She is one of only sixteen people. Ever and only ten people still alive who have achieved egot status by winning at least one emmy grammy oscar and tony and she was also the recipient of the presidential medal of freedom in two thousand four the national medal of the arts in two thousand nine. The screen actors guild life achievement award in two thousand thirteen the kennedy center honors lifetime artistic achievement award in two thousand fifteen and the peabody career achievement award in two thousand nineteen and now more than seventy years into her career. She is returning to west side story as an actress in and executive producer of steven spielberg's upcoming remake of the film and she is also the subject of a documentary. They're why an implied rape scene in west side story and a fight scene opposite marlon brando in the night of the following day rocked her to her core. "Na member fdic okay. So it's just the two of us today and look. This is a four hour ceremony. I assure we cannot talk about everything. We cannot even hit all the winners all the performances were just gonna hit some highlights because there were a hell of a lot of highlights and a hell of a lot of performances but first. Let's get to this kind of bizarre presentation which was according to my twitter feed kind of troublesome for a lot of people. Most of the awards were handed out in the first two hours which aired on paramount plus that ceremony was hosted by the great and good audra mcdonald that left a lot more room for musical performances of which there are plenty in the last hours and they aired on cbs. That special was called. Broadway's back exclamation point because it's theater and That special hosted by leslie odem junior. What did you think of. This bifurcated approached at work for you. Not at all so confusing and i was not alone because i went on twitter to ask you both. They can help me find the second half of the show. This is just to me. Another example of the way in which theater just gets short shrift all the time because i they have the first part of the night the tony awards themselves were most of the awards handed out that's on paramount. Plus only and then you have to switch over to cbs. Or if you're on paramount plus you have to have paramount bus premium to watch the second half. But then i didn't also realize that because i'm on the west coast. They weren't showing the extra special the two ours hosted by leslie junior. That wasn't airing until later on. I guess because like paramount plus wasn't showing it until later in the evening and i was like. Don't wanna be up this. So it was very confusing and i think that having this bifurcated streaming thing is not helpful especially when you consider and i don't want to make this sound agents at all but i think the tonys especially has a much older demographic and so i wonder if it was confusing for me. I can only imagine how confusing it could have been a lot of other people who would have tuned in and so. I wonder what the audience numbers were like for that. That'll be interesting to see because again. The second half is less two hours. Had the big awards and best musical best play best revival all the other awards including a lot of actor in technical words were in those first two hours and i understand why they did it but man it made for a very odd night now however it has to be said that as a ceremony as an award ceremony. The tonys are always the best. Because you've got professional show people who know how to time their speeches. There ended up thirty seconds. They build each each of the speeches has arc in them and they get emotional and they call it back and then you know their performances are just. That's why you tune in right. Yeah i mean. I think what was great about this. Was that there was very very little banter going on with the present and these are people who could do banter because that is what they do. They are theater people. Many of them know how to improv. If they wanted to they could do it. But i appreciate the fact that especially audra mcdonald for the first half of the show was just like we got this. Many words need to hand out and we have to in two hours and the show actually finished ten minutes early. Which is i think great. So i appreciate it. How short and sweet. That part was especially okay. Let's get into it The award for best play in this was kind of a surprise to many people. Went to matthew lopez's the inheritance. It's a two part play. That adapts enforcers howards. End into a story about generations of gay men in newark city. Mattielo -pez is the first latin next render to win in this carry something. He mentioned in his speech. We are vibrant community reflecting a vast array of cultures experiences and yes skin tones. We have so many stories to tell they are inside of us. He can come out. Let us tell you are stories. Thank you for this. Thank you this play. Also one leading actor a play for andrew. Burn up featured actress in a play. I didn't understand what featured meant. I didn't know it means supporting. But of course the people are not going to say supporting they're gonna say featured featured actor in a play lowest smith at age ninety. She's the oldest winner in the acting. Category it also won four direction of a play. A lot of people were thinking that this was going to go to jeremy. oh harris's slave play which got twelve nominations which is a record but at one zip you saw slave pay right. I saw slave play and to say the least. It was a very polarizing show polarizing. I think among many different groups particularly black critics. I am one of those critics who really admired. Its ambition. And i liked it a lot more than others did. And just in case people are not aware it is about three couples who are interracial who are trying to work through what it means to be an inch racial couple and it involves lots of allusions to end includes sexual situations in which they are acting out slavery Which is a big reason. Why people had a lot of feelings about it. Jeremy harris co wrote Zola the movie from earlier. This year of that was based off of twitter thread. So yeah. I was quite surprised and kind of disappointed. I think the fact that whether you like it or not. This has made nominations but then didn't win. Any is a curious thing until you realize that. I didn't realize this that there are actually two different things going on when it comes to nominations and the actual awards. There's a smaller committee tasked with seeing all the shows and they are the ones who vote for it and you know. I think it's like a few dozen people and they each have like three year terms that overlap and then there's eight hundred plus people in the voting body there might be a little bit of overlap there. But that's like a huge number disparity. Which i think is why we see something like this happen. Where something like. The inheritance wins over slave play. Yeah so there's a lot of reasons why it didn't win anything i think. In you know there's no way to know. But those are a couple possibilities for vice chacao ensuring like flays polarizing among black critics. I have to tell you that The inheritances is equally polarizing among gay. Critics it is a play that launched a thousand hot takes. The best revival play went to a soldier's play. We got a greatly. I order the evening was David alan grier featured actor in a play. He gave a great speech with a lot of great energy guys and to the other nominees. Tub bananas i want and it also won for best revival of a play as you mentioned and the director kenny. Leon gave a tremendous speech no disc to shakespeare. no this to epson to check off to shaw. They're all at the table but the table got to be bigger issue..

"Hi, everyone and thank you for tuning into the two hundred sixty second episode of awards chatter. The Hollywood reporter's awards podcast. I'm the host Scott Feinberg, and my guest today is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. A one woman hit machine for more than thirty five years who has worked with almost every major singer of that time span from Barbra, Streisand and share to slain Dion and Whitney Houston to beyond say and lady Gaga and who's responsible for giant hits. Like, how do I live? I don't wanna miss a thing. If I could turn back time where them of the night. Nothing's gonna stop us now because you love me, don't turn around unbreakable heart can't fight the moonlight, and so many others, the great Diane Warren of whom the legendary music industry executive Clive Davis once said, quote, you know, how people are always saying no one write songs like they used to while. Diane is someone who does close quote Warren was the most successful songwriter of the nineteen nineties has been called the high priestess of heartburn. Aac and his virtually synonymous with the power ballad, but has found success with almost every genre. She has had thirty two songs. Practice billboard hot one hundred chart and nine top it. She was the first songwriter to simultaneously have songs at number one and number two on the US charts. And she was the first songwriter simultaneously have seven songs by seven different artists on the singles chart at the same time. Furthermore, she has written more than one hundred songs that have been featured in movies ten of which brought her best original song Oscar nominations, but none yet a win. Meanwhile, she has won Grammy EMMY Golden Globe and critics choice awards each for different songs. She also won the billboard music award for songwriter of the year in nineteen ninety seven nine hundred ninety eight and nineteen ninety nine was named the American society of composers authors. And publishers pop songwriter of the year in nineteen ninety nineteen ninety one nineteen Ninety-three nineteen ninety eight and nineteen ninety nine and their country songwriter of the year in two thousand and she was inducted into the song. Writers hall of fame in two thousand one today at sixty two she is still going strong and pumping out songs as great as ever and over the course of our conversation at the officers of the Hollywood reporter, she and I discussed all of the above plus much more including how she emerged from troubled childhood, and I began working in the music biz the origin stories of greatest hits several of which almost never were. And what inspired the trilogy of call to action songs that have accounted for her three. Most recent Oscar noms till it happens to you from two thousand fifteen hunting ground performed by lady Gaga, stand up for something from two thousand seventeen Marshall performed by Andre and common. And from the two thousand eighteen Ruth, Bader Ginsburg, bio doc RB g which itself has been nominated for the best documentary feature. Oscar the song alpha Knight performed by Jennifer Hudson. So without further ado, let's go to that conversation. Diane. Thank you so much for comments to see you as always, and this is a little different than most of these. Because usually when somebody comes on this podcast. I don't really previously know them don't have much to do with them. I feel like thanks to the long suffering period that you've had with the Oscars number ten world friends. I've only been around for the last four I think before that was before my time so long as yes. But it's been fun, and we'll get through all of it. But I guess the begin with. Let's just say for the record where were you born and raised in. What did your parents do for a living? I'm from van Nuys, California. A local not a lot of us. My dad sold insurance. "Like, the a little crazy. All right. We're going to go after Trump when it looks like Trump was like the interior decorator of all these like award shows that we're at like that that that to me is a little wacky. I how many there were it's like wild. How many there are? So that's pretty crazy. But it's you know, it's nice. I mean, it's nice. I'm like friends with Paul Schrader. That's very funny. Very funny. How many seed balls right ball? Somebody lunch together. Like, not at all. I thought my life would turn out. But it's good. I mean, like the real thing you do is like I would have thought by this point. It's probably very convenient for me to say this now that I'm here that I'd be like rolling my eyes. Like man awards are bullshit, you know, me, but it's like truly when you actually make an independent film, and you see the state of de world and people's attention. You realize this is this is the only thing we have to get these films seen by people. And I just have I seen people reach out to me. I've seen people online that that have seen the movie because of the awards attention it gets and like people realize it's like Hollywood, patting itself and its back. Sure. But it's like it's also like the only thing that is promoting eccentric strange things to be seen by who would have like people are going to see like burning and hold war. And like all these movies that they would not have seen had it not been recognized by you know, the saints. Louis chronicles golden goose awards or whatever. Iraq, Obama top fifteen land. That's very good one for you guys. But that is that is legitimate. And I also realized that like going into like the person that's no one is taking the awards more seriously than the person that back these bullsh- like that that you are taking it way too seriously, then like, and that's just to go and like heavy sense of humor. You know? I, of course, I care. Of course, I'd wanna get nominated for an Oscar that would want my kid myself and say I wouldn't want to so it's like heaven little fun right care because it's fun to care like fantasy sports. I mean, it doesn't want to get who doesn't wanna like it's also like fun for my parents and stuff to they can take little less about it. And my father can probably turn off the Google alerts at this point. But yeah, I mean, that's the thing. It's like it's very easy to be cynical about it. Because it's so obviously right cynical. But you know, at the end of the day like it's it really is about the work. It is about whatever whatever I can do to get this movie scene. I want it to be seen. What whatever that means. So I really really appreciate it. Because this movie would have died not die. But like people are still talking about this movie and seeing it in January, and that's because of this circuit. So I'll go around and do whatever and people are people to you know, if it's at a PJ screening, it's still just people coming up and shaking your hand and saying they like the movie or they're engaging on this part. You know, so like they're all just excuses to talk to people about the film in the work. And that's all so it's great. Thank you for doing that. Is that fair political? I think so it show that. Exactly, right. Thanks very much for tuning into awards chatter. We really appreciate you taking the time to do that. And would really appreciate you taking a minute. "Hi, everyone and thank you for tuning into the two hundred sixtieth episode of awards cheddar the Hollywood reporter's awards podcasts, which is now. But one of four podcast that comprise the Hollywood reporter's podcast network. The others being it happened in Hollywood behind the screen and TV's top five. I'm the host Scott Feinberg, and my guest today is one of the greatest actresses of her generation with a resume that includes five nominations for kademi awards nine for Golden Globe awards. Two of which resulted in wins six for sag awards and eleven for critics choice awards three of which resulted in wins. She has given stand up performances in almost every one of the last fifteen plus years in projects like two thousand two's catch me if you can two thousand five June bug two thousand seven's and chanted and Charlie Wilson's war. Two thousand eight doubt two thousand nine Julian. Julia two thousand ten the fighter two thousand twelve the master two thousand thirteen her and American hustle two thousand fourteen big is. Is two thousand sixteen arrival end nocturnal animals in two thousand eighteen she shined into more projects as Camille precursor self sabotaging journalist investigating mysterious murder in the H B O ate part limited series sharp objects on which he was also an executive producer and for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, and is nominated for critics choice and sag awards, and as Lynne Cheney the former first lady of the United States in the Adam McKay film drama, vice for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, and is nominated for critics choice sag and BAFTA awards with another Oscar nomination, and maybe even her first Oscar likely right around the corner, the great Amy Adams over the course of our conversation at the offices of the Hollywood reporter, the forty four year old, and I discussed how years of work in dinner theatre led to her first film opportunities how her subsequent career has come in phases with people typecasting her as one thing such as innocence for a few years after. What she has managed to break into different phases. Thanks, the imagination of directors including David Russell, Paul, Tom, Sanderson, spike Jones. Tim Burton and Denise Villneuve how she has managed to. So thoroughly invest herself in her parts, body and soul while guarding against letting her work, which is often dark bleed into her life plus much more. So without further ado, let's go to that conversation. Everything so much for joining us great to have you and I have to just quickly. No because it's kind of a rare opportunity to drop a fact like this the first time, I did a long form interview with you like this. I looked it up was thirteen years ago and three days ago. I was in a dorm room at Brandeis university had started a website about the Oscar stuff you were. It was the beginning of people starting to have sort of awards interest in you for June bug, and I listened back to it. And I mentioned to you a few weeks ago. I think in San Francisco that the weirdest part about it was that at that time. I still trust that I'm db as a primary source and my first question to you based on IMDB was I understand that your real name is not Amy Adams. And there was this long pause. And you were very nice about. And you said it's not. Because I am I think it was like a mad at Jessica out of their something. But I learned that lesson and I also have loved following the last thirteen years. So thank you for giving me a second chance to get it. Right. This time on this one. We really started the beginning. So I want to just ask you where you were born and raised in what your folks that limit. I was born in Vicenza Italy raised primarily in Colorado. My dad was in the army that's the overseas birth, and when he came out of the service worked in hospitals managing medical units. And my mother is sort of like the Queen of the odd job she sort of now settled into being a masseuse bet she has done everything from deliver newspapers to coach gymnastics to bodybuild, she's very transient in our career choices..

"That's one of the great blessings of having hair on one's head. You can either work with or work without if you're an actor. I'm speaking. It's it's really changes ones. Look needless to say for share. Well, I want to ask you about what maybe five or six years ago happen that sparked this career renaissance that we're in the middle of witnessing right now. I don't think that's overstating it where you're getting some of the best part you've ever played you're giving some of the best performances you've ever given and people are being more appreciative probably than they've ever been. But it started kind of inauspiciously if I have it correctly because it all goes back to an adult swim stop motion animated show called robot chicken. How does that give way to what we're looking at now been very fortunate in career lately, particularly, but in the last twenty years, I guess voice overs? I got an offer to do this voice over for the adult swim channel to play. This totally wacky. Part and robot chicken jumped at it. I mean, it was funny. Really funny, and I got nominated for an EMMY for. Daytime nighttime early morning Demi or some kind of the day, and I go to this thing award ceremony with my daughter, Cleo, and we sat right behind lily Tomlin who was nominated in the same category for doing voiceover for the National Geographic channel every call on African elephants totally different than the reason there and she won in the category. And I remember going to or in congratulating her and giving her a big hug, and we had a moment just a moment and never cross paths with lily before so clear, and I went on home back to our worlds, and I don't know. I don't even know how long it was after that one night to phone rang. And it was Chris Weitz, and he said sorry for calling lit some late or some weird thing. But my brother's doing this movie with lily Tomlin. Once you read the script, would you read it, of course, I would I send men's grip on I read the script ship and. It was a bet as media role as I've ever seen given the size of it. But just went from ADA Z in my mind. Anyway, this is in what would become grandma and you originally when you getting the script being asked to play a biker with long hair, kind of which I didn't have I don't think I had a mustache. But had very short hair. Went and got together with Paul whites. Chris's brother F Brad read it, and we talked Eddie even called about a wig for the peace, and I but in the getting a mustache made. And then I start reading conscription that the guy a biker I talked to Paul about it. And so what if I could why is this guy biker? This is a lot. But remember mask you working bike? There's a sequence in their room working on a bike and on the page. It was cool might be cool lily at this biker in her past and an Amen. I don't wanna wear a wig for a movie. Anyway, I ended up doing it not wearing a wig and just played this pretty much straightforward dope smoking guy. So that goes eventually to premiere at Sundance, but at a Sundance by which time you've already made another movie, I'll see you in my dreams, which is kind of amazing when people realize it's a from thirty one year old writer director editor I don't know if he'd even made a movie before I don't few few little through bright. So he wants to make a movie about a widower and the guy. She now finds new love with and again, he's thirty one. But he's writing about people at that stage of life, and somehow gets Blythe Danner and Yuda believe in him groups group those very persuasive gunmen. Liberally? So that's an eighteen day shoot where you're playing in this case really like a a gentleman refers leading man was out now leading men rule right nevers through romantically. Guesses better way to put it and Blyth Danner who we had on this podcast at that time. It was just one of our first guest was saying that how much she loved working with you. And and how it could have gone wrong in a way because I mean, she herself had been married for thirty three years. Her husband died cancer years before she'd had no subsequent relationships..

"Supporting actor critics choice and Screen Actors Guild award nominations and also having his handprints and footprints immortalized in front of the TCL Chinese theatre last week in recognition of his powerful portrayal. Of Bradley Cooper's character's older brother in Cooper's claim two thousand eighteen version of stars born the great Sam Elliott over the course of our conversation at the offices of the Hollywood reporter, the seventy four year old, and I discussed the roots of his acting ambitions, how the sudden death of his father who had doubted his future and acting impacted his career path why the first film in which he was the central star. Lifeguard was also his last how with only a few notable exceptions like mask. He came to be typecast as the strong silent type often mounted on a horse and or out in the west most famously in the big lebowski what sparked his recent late career renaissance that led to a star is born plus much more. So they'll further ado, let's go to that conversation. Simply so much for coming in. It's great to have you. And we always again with just a few basics on this podcast where were you born and raised and what did your folks do for a living was born raised from Sacramento, California in nineteen forty four. My dad worked for the fish oil f- service. -partment renter government. My mom was a schoolteacher at that time. She was. I guess she was a housewife, and she was a mom, and she was still going to school. She graduated from the university of Texas at El Paso, where they all came from making me the only one that was born in somewhere outside of Texas, which I rounded very live down or the. Constantly reminding me that it was a prune picker, right? Well, so growing up were movies or TV or theater big partyer life. What were the kinds of things that you most responded to it was never really theater? I went to there was a music theater there in Sacramento, which I remember seeing Rumpelstiltskin those quite taken with that in my folks used to go to the state fair every year, they were involved in these horticultural exhibits. Dad had a greenhouse that built and grew these award-winning begonias, and there was a theater there. And I remember going and seeing plays there and some woman came down. I was watching rehearsal. There was a lot of time hanging around the fair, whether setting all this stuff up and remember watching this play and seen been fascinated. It was kind of a dress rehearsal. Think everybody was in full stage makeup in those days. It was heavy. This was the fifth is very heavy. Stay in this gal came down and talk to me and chess being if I was interested in getting involved in the children's theatre, I think she later spoke to my mom about it as well. But I was afraid to do that. So I didn't do that. And at the same period of time. I was going to a place called the sequoia theater, which was the neighborhood theater watching lot of Saturday matinee and that was relief. The thing that captivated now reason for you to particular remember this, but we didn't interview New York maybe four or five years ago tied to I'll see you in my dreams, which is a movie I'll ask you a little bit. And I went back and read the transcript, and I found it interesting. He said that I guess a kind of very important people in your life where Corey Blodget and Ramona Reynolds who were they? Do remember doing the interview with you? I don't remember specifically Corey and remote ahead. Great fortunate that I had a lot of mentors from grade school on but Corey bludgeon and Ramona rentals were my high school choral teacher and my high school drama teacher. They knew at that point in high school that I really was fixated on having a career in business, and they were very instrumental in just keeping me on that road keeping me focused on it and tell him it pursue it. Because at home, you're getting maybe some mixed message..

"It was also incredibly exciting like other than the like intense anticipation, which was probably the most unpleasant aspect of it like just way too much dangling before my race that I was like just gimme gimme gimme all of it. Like that was dangerous to see that part of me and how badly I want like I wanted to be validated in that way. Especially because I felt so unbalanced aided at school. So I wanted this Leonard like stamp like I wanted like tattooed on my body where you kind of essentially middle finger to everybody like check like, but yeah, it was also like a moment of time that I was like again like I was living a fan. I it was like this is truly then like brought into the fantasy. Realm. And I was like it was again used the Harry Potter analogy. It was like we're gonna tap three bricks. We're going to like this wall's going to disappear, and we're going to be in like dig- on alley and it felt like at times like the fantasy was coming true. And I was meeting all these people I grew up with the faces. They liked me. And it was like that. It was so overwhelming you're dead had been through it when he was nominated for it was about a boy he was nominated for think. Yeah. So that may maybe like fourteen years earlier, and you were throughout this Manchester, periods still living at home rate. Yeah. So we're you able to compare notes at all get any. It was he'll just give any advice. I mean, it's also different for writers. They're not the face of it. It is different. I think the only moment of connection we had was like, whoa. That's like two generations in in a row. And it just felt like when we were watching the announcements or whatever I wasn't watching them. My mom wasn't. And then I found out. I went and watched with her. And there was like Jason Reitman appeared was like talking about how him and his father. This is a cool tradition. You're talking about the morning. They announced the. Yeah. But the trickiness of being nominated does not lie in like, it's amazing to be nominated into feel that good. The trickiness for me was like a year later, even though I was in all those movie yet got nominated Burs that was like, I don't know. It's just dangerous getting that level validation. Or as you say, I I didn't even know the standard of what a good year looks like is insane. It's like look at Sam Rockwell who like worked forty years or thirty or twenty twenty hour many years. Yeah. Get to where he is. Like, that's that's the kind of path I want. Yeah. And my darker moments. I wonder like what being nominated really like gives me in in terms of long-term growth will just for that one. Last thing about the that Manchester era and the awards thing that Oscar night, you go there, you're nominated try remember one you end up winning. Who did win again Hershel Hershel for a moment though. I was like I think I want. Right before she was like in the also goes to or whatever I want. At least he didn't start to get out of your people have done. It wasn't like that. I wasn't like it wasn't like I was just like for a split second. I was like holy shit. I knew wouldn't. I think it was just like it's like, I don't know if like you ever like the lottery gets read it's like the first being over even know it's just like there was a split second..
