"Okay, we're back Amanda and I were here to talk about a couple of more movies that his streaming services Amanda before we talk about these two movies I really this weekend in terms of film releases felt like the future of movies to me you know I was like this is how we're going to get everything. It's going to be IP stuff. It's going to be remakes and sequels, but it's also going to be straight into our home. Did you have that sensation at all I? Honestly felt like a little bit of nostalgia or like we're back baby to me watching having to watch like a lot of movies that just don't Pan out the way that I wanted to. which is not so much as the other two films that were about to discuss it just kind of like. Well, it's nine thirty on a Sunday night and I have to watch the witches on Avio Max because this is my job and I procrastinated so that was nice it was good to have a selection. It's good to like I'm just to be a little rude and that's okay you know I missed doing that we have been mostly talking about things we love or respect or things that are interesting and I I, don't have a lot of respect for the next two phones primarily because they don't have a lot of respect for the things that they made. So let's go. Yeah. Final few days of the month of Amanda here We're GONNA DO OUR BEST So the first movie we're GonNa talk about as Rebecca. We did a hitchcock podcast this summer and celebrated his work I. Think we all agree that nineteen forties Rebecca is just straight up one of the greatest movies ever made it is a haunting and beautifully rendered adaptation of Daphne du Maurier as novel. And for some reason, Ben Wheatley decided to remake. That movie and re-adapt that novel, and this is a new film that comes from Netflix's stars slowly James and Armie. Hammer. and. It's just it's just not It's just not what I wanted. It's just it didn't. It's not horrible. You know I don't think it's a terrible film I. It just feels a bit like so many remakes. I mean you're nodding your head you're doing your little Amanda Dance there to indicate pass it is. I I. Didn't think it was terrible. In particular filmmaker who I really like who I really admire who I think has made some of the most interesting and transgressive movies of the last ten years a field in England and high rise and I'll really like free fire. He was on the show a few years ago talking about that movie kill list is one of the scariest movies ever made. so He's a really talented guy. This of this story is, of course, quite as more corseted is more formal than a lot of the work that he does, which is often kind of emotionally erratic and scary and. It just felt like an odd match and it felt like an odd decision to remake the movie. What did you think? Yes. To everything that you just said. So I was willing to give. A benefit of the doubt in the sense that he and Netflix I, I would say like months ago just started the this is not a hitchcock remake campaign and it was just like before you interacted with anything related to twenty twenty rebecca it just had to have like stamped in all caps lock. This is a remake of the book and not the Hitchcock Film which you know what fine I have read the novel Rebecca by Daphne Demaria.

Swedbank chief sacked over money laundering scandal
"Executive of sweat, bang has been fired by the Swedish banks board paying the price for a Rapidly-escalating money laundering scandal. She is the second Nordic Bank chief to lose their job ever Bank laundering scandals which should Millns. How's the FTE's financial editor patching Jenkins? What's nice? I fall. Richard, I gather you're just out of the sweat Bank AGM, and if we can hear any background noises. It's the stage being taken down as neat metaphor for some of the rather dramatic news was revealed earlier today. Yeah. It's been two days of immense drama at sweat Bank. Yesterday was kind of surreal it was just one new allegations after new allegation. The Bank was raided by police prosecutors in Sweden upgraded their investigation from just looking at whether sweat Bank broke insider information rules, whether they'd committed aggravated fraud, which is you know, an extraordinary probe. And finally, we revealed the US regulators probing sweat Bank over the money laundering allegations. And so therefore this morning just minutes before the GM. It was kind of no surprise the sweat banks board decided to fire s- chief executive, but get two bonus on the former chief executive now used to be head of sweat Bank in the Baltics, which is where most of these allegations of money laundering. Come from an really she just paid the price for what's now turning into a hugely de. Imaging's scandal for sweat Bank. And you've been reporting also on the government reaction to this which is pretty extraordinarily harsh as well. Yes, I think it's fair to say that really Sweden's reputation is on the line here. Just as Denmark's reputation was on the line in these countries that pride themselves on extremely low levels of corruption inside that borders that also pride themselves on very high level of trust between individuals between individuals and government, but also between individuals and companies and the problem with the sweat Bank scandal as with the dunce Cabana scandal beforehand is it puts all if that at risk. And so I think ministers in both countries are extremely worried about this trust dimension that if a road's people's trust in society, not just in the specific Bankin question. It's very dangerous. And I think what you see from the government in the post few. Days here in Stockholm is basically swiped Bank his turning into something of a case study in how not to handle live money laundering scandal. So Richard, I know the legal limitations on exactly what we can say here, but what is swept Bank accused of doing. So it basic level. What is come out in an investigation by Swedish public TV SP tea is that internal documents from swipe banks suggests that what they called the high risk non-resident portfolio. So this is risky customers from Russia. Another ex-soviet countries the hundred thirty five billion euros was moved through sweat Bank in the stone you now it's the market leader in the studio, but it's also the market leader in Latvia, and Lithuania. So we're talking about dozens of billions of euros of questionable money flows. US regulators of Austin, whatever its connections to do with a number of no money laundering. Scheme such as the Russian laundromat, Panama papers on offshore companies and Danske Bank and some failed banks such as Latvia's Avio, LV and Yukio in Lithuania. So we're still in nearly stages of really building up a picture of exactly what's going on. But it's fed sakes. What Bank is facing allegations from sort of also school nece reminders of the background to this. Because as you say the done ski- Bank, money laundering scandal blew up several months ago. Now, I'm dates back many years. Of course, how is what happened there linked to these what Bank revelations? Well, it is definitely linked. They both would not banks that went into the Baltics in the early two thousands late nineteen, you know, this was the new land of growth and opportunity, and they were extremely hauled. Hit in the financial crisis. Bowl ticket conham is totally decimated. And so in the recovery some of these banks started making pretty good money. Dansko may just sort of extraordinary returns in the stone year and sweat Bank. Did well is the largest Bank in the Baltics and suddenly the head of dance Kerr in the Baltics and the head of sweat Bank in the Baltics both become chief executive at the Bank together. And then the hit by these allegations, which is basically that Russian oligarchs criminals and people from other ex-soviet countries have used these banks and others to move hundreds of billions of dollars of money through the financial system and into the western financial system and out twelve nobody really knows where the money's gone. It sounds very much as if tempers are running high in the background there. Richard executives perhaps blaming the other for everything going wrong. But just a final Woodham way, you think this is going next. I what Bank or indeed for any other banks in the region. Well, we contain this movie before with dansko. I think it sets the pattern for this. Which is really the you need to change of leadership at the top, and is dense ca found out a change of chief executive isn't sufficient really, you need an outside to come in the head of the board. So I think sweat banks bold is facing enormous questions. Enormous pressure this widespread dissatisfaction with how they've handled this with how they've communicated about it. And then beyond that what you're looking at is investigatory work from US regulators, which can obviously impose very heavy fines and also counterparts in Sweden Estonia Denmark, Latvia, which you take is to go through everything. So, you know, this is a problem that it's going to stay with these banks for very long time and finally other banks gang drawn into this as well. Do you think well today, you'll sing some signs of thatt's as we speak both SEB an Handelsbanken, which the two other. Big Swedish banks a down seven percent percentage. Under those Bankin is unusual because it's the knee wall. New really the big Nordic banks full stock not to have gone into the Baltics it chose the UK. Instead, but regulators in the various Baltic Nordic countries of criticized really all the banks for that controls at one time or another. So it seems you know, the after the financial crisis being a Nordic bang with seen as by postitive thing right now with these money laundering, allegations being a Nordic Bank is a bit of a liability. We'll

I'm really every single thing that you do on your phone, and this is done so of a roots level device level settings. So really embedded in their your if you install this, you're giving Facebook permission to do absolutely everything on your phone, absolutely everything. So this is a very unusual kind of app, which is why we haven't heard about it in till now face wanted to keep this. Secret. Yes. Essentially, I mean it was. Through some of the ways that this was set up. It was done for a few of affiliate partners that didn't necessarily directly mention Facebook. But all the signs of weather. Data was going and everything so of lead back to Facebook. It was the app was called in some way it was face. But research on phones it showed you just up as research app. So it was a case of Facebook wouldn't necessarily have majorly hidden it did this. But it wasn't particularly overt in saying. This is something that we're doing, and it's not necessarily the first time that Facebook's had this sort of issue as well because the app it was a VPN app, which basically creates a private connection between yourselves and other people and previously Facebook the on a viral up Owen Avio mouth wrong, but that was removed from the app store. Previously after it was basically doing the same sort of collecting user data and feeding back to Facebook. So is this something that Facebook shouldn't have been doing and knew they were meant to do. So they dodgy about how they try. To get round this. I think you know, the answer to that one already and this is where the beef comes in. So this was the app was distributed via Facebook's enterprise developers certificate. So essentially, it didn't go through the app store on I s eight was installed Fru set per platform for an online download link essentially, and when you installed it on there. It was using the developer at the enterprise developer certificate, which is what Facebook and over apps by from apple to be able to develop their own absence ervices, so we've in Facebook there are versions of Facebook. Which on public beta versions, I think actually have like an orange Facebook logo rather than the blue one. And these are used by people within the company to be able to develop test new products. Things works doesn't work and basically Facebook was using this set of permissions to allow them to distribute this up. So it wasn't distributed for the app store. An apple basically took. Section two this so per Apple's terms and conditions. You're not allowed to use your developer account to publicly distribute an app, which is exactly what Facebook did manage to keep it a secret for three years. Yeah. It said it designed the program solely for the internal distribution of outs within an organization Facebook has been using their membership to distribution data-collecting to customers which is a clear breach of their agreement with apple and as a result, apple temporarily. But in the short term, the texts still relies on people to grab the wheel when necessary, but the thing about humans is if we have the chance to stop paying attention. We will in two fatal accidents involving Tesla's autopilot system, it appears that drivers did not necessarily take over when the semi-autonomous system wasn't up to the task Missy Cummings directs the humans and autonomy lab at Duke University. And as it happens was one of the US, navy's first female, fighter pilots. I asked her what's between now and fully self-driving cars. Well, I think that one of the problem with these levels are that they seem linear in that. We should go one two three four five. But the reality is there, really two different paths. There's the one-two-three path. And then there's the one to four five path. And the reason that this is an issue is because level three which is where. The automation is partially capable but not fully capable. And we have to have that in the cases where the cars can't perform under all conditions, then the car hands over control back to the human. And this is the deadliest phase. And in fact, I'm pretty much against level three. I don't think it should exist at all. Because one thing I know as a former fighter pilot having a human step inside the control loop at the last possible minute is a guaranteed disaster. And yet we see carmakers going there. Yeah. In fact, I think you know, we we arguably see tesla sort of pushing that on consumers does it make drivers sort of part of a like a living RND lab on city streets. Well, I think there are two issues here. I think number one should we have cars that have to ask for humans intervention at time critical periods that that answer is no. And I think, but that's a separate issue of should we allow? Ow. Car makers to use the American public as Guinea pigs to test out these to these new technologies, and I also think that the answer is no what's the what needs to happen. You know, setting aside what we think might or might not in the current environment. What what does need to happen from mitzvah or any other officials? So the reality is we still need to invest in this technology. I'm not a Luddite. I run a robotics lab. I want the technology to continue to progress. And so one of the things that I personally have been advocating for is that we need to establish vision tests for autonomous vehicles one of the things that we know about driverless cars are that their perception systems. What makes them see are deeply flawed? So we know that the perception systems are deeply flawed than we need to have a set of tests that the cars must be able to pass before they're allowed on public roads. Don't forget McKnight road. Ingemar Bellevue banks full road highway street in the historic side, Beulah road, Ferguson road and hope. Well, let's go to Stephanie in Forest Hills. Hey, stephanie. How are you fine? And you good. Okay. I have a question. Why did you get rid of your old icing and went with the new Buttercream? I think that's a question. I was waiting for that. So. Your all made tour it does nothing. Well for that Allman. Tort I am so. Disgusted. Well, this is probably a better time. That's call into our office and discuss it. But I have no problem discussing that on the air. What happened was trans fats are now supposed to be out of all products. So about a year ago, they started phasing them out of this shortening in our bakery. And what trans fat is the main one it's it's an artificial trans fats, not really transplant their artificial. So it's a partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, and it's a preservative. So my recipe had to change right away because of that. And what started happening with us as we Israel butter in there. So and shortening and then are granulated sugar. And so what happened was start the butter separating either shortening, and because of the less preservative, it's not holding up on the shelves because we're putting out things on shelf stable, I sang a shelf stable, but because of that desert are being gone. The butter is not holding up like it's supposed to. So what we did is. We added a second icing. I didn't get rid of the old icing. And so what we do is. We have our Buttercream icing, which is what we put on our cakes and everything that's out there, and it's a sweeter we use granulated sugar at a powder sugar. And that's the main difference is this weakness there. Plus, the reason why we developed we always did up to Aisin's. But we changed to this other one to some people like sweet some people like less sweet. So what we now have we have our Buttercream all on the floor. And then for orders, you can order your butter cream icing or you can order the whipped Buttercream, which the small we we call it a small batch with Buttercream, and it's a small batch because we small we made our batches smaller. So that we can control the shelf life of it. We don't want anything going bad. I don't want to go into a customer and separating on them. I don't want that happening. So we went, and we we source dot the a better shortening that yes, it's zero trans fat. But they this company researched it and developed the product. So it didn't do that have the problem with the separating as much really and the flavors still there to same flavor. So when you're placing your when you're placing an order, the the stores, and they're getting used to it making sure they're asking would you like the Buttercream or the width Buttercream, and they all have exactly the the difference between the two we had to make sure they write them down. Even if even if a store manager or someone from produce came over if if if. Right next to the phone. They had its they can explain to you what this one's a sweeter. And this one has granulated this one as powdered gonna decide which one if you're there, they can they can they can sample it as well. Now, some of the old one may be on the shelf now, and then because we're making a we make a batch and at twenty court there, they're doing an order. They might have some leftover there makes them cupcakes but don't label with Buttercream. But that's the reason no one took away and icing and everyone has different tastes. I wanna make sure that I'm putting out one because I have other people that call and say, hey, this is on the sweet rising. I Don I don't taste anything in this. So and they just passed me up. So I don't wanna lose. I don't want to push that customer say, no, I don't want your business. I wanna make sure that I'm covering as much as possible. But that's the reason why you're not seeing it on the shelf for for that for that the Buttercream that we were making exclusively. Now, we we added the second one. But I wanna make sure that I have to a product out there. That's a really really good product. But it has to be fresh when it gets to your story. I mean to your home, and it has to be the highest quality I can do. And that's the best way. For me to be able to control the quality on on that homemade icing. So he Frank give if Stephanie if she if she wants the old dicing how does she get it at the store? She orders the cake if she wants to work with the old icing on it. Yeah. You ordered the cake. And if you're there if you ask behind the counter, hey, do you have any of the whipped available? Can you can you make me a cake real quick out? Some a lot of times they can do that as well. I mean, our icing itself they can't make unless you wanna wait because our icing takes forty five minutes to make. That's the timeframe makes that you have to be able to solve that grain sugar. You have to make sure you're getting everything dissolved correctly. And if you don't go far if you don't do it long enough, it tastes like shortening. You don't get the flavors in their enough. And it's not an putting enough air into the product. So that's pretty technical. But you can still get the the the original icing that we had. Yeah, they're both. They're in eventually. I'm sure the Frank will come up with something. We're or be zero trans fat, but can be put shelf stable on on on the floor. All right. You keep. Yeah. We have. That one out there. That's the one. We're putting out there all the time. It's a sweeter taste to it. Which is when you get manufactured in. I mean, we developed the recipe, but they manufactured for us. And the problem they they're not gonna use grand late show. Do they won't use grant laser because they're not gonna wait forty five. They won't wait the time. They get it through there. And plus they're using buttering flavor. Where at the store I have the ability to use a, you know, butter real butter actual butter. Yeah. All right. Hey, stephanie. I'm sure that took care of your question. Thank you so much Frank well done, and we'll move on to our next caller who happens to be Steve in the north hills home of that McKnight road store. Hey, Steve how you doing? I'm doing good. I'm doing good. We recently had a a strip appetizer at a restaurant that I thought was really good a little variation one. I've done before it's bacon, wrapped shrimp with a dollop of horseradish on it. I'm sure they precooked shrimp because it helped me. Wrapped up and then they. You know, the real worse rats, not decrease. It was really good. Very good. Did you try to make it at home? I'm going to this Sunday. I definitely precooked the bacon and not all the way, but I would get close. And then because he shrimps going to cook a lot cook pretty quick and the bacon won't catch up to it. But although it might I mean because really you have that Greece in the bacon, and it may act as a I mean, what may overcook the from your right because it might it's going to act like a frying agent almost because that's going to boil on the outside. But at that'd be an excellent bacon, wrapped scallops. Yes. One of my favorites. Have scallops bacon. Anything? I mean. Bacon. Basically bacon is today. Treated more like a seasoning, you less less people. Eat just straight bake and more than just using it for other putting it together with something else. You know, what today would be good from coons market man-wich? Sure. Wish him Salone is bred. Are you kidding me? Ten for ten to and I can feed the whole neighborhood, which is always good. You know, what these wonderful canned goods, you know, people don't give them enough guy. Just stock up on canned goods. I love canned goods where the market's going is that, you know, people they want they want to spend some time cooking. But not like, our our our grandparents did spend all that time. So in order to satisfy that manufacturers bay the different ice the stores, we try to prepare stuff partially. So people can go home and just finish it in fifteen minutes in and they stole it, stole home. Cooked the the ingredients were supplied by by us or manufacturer that. Like, you know. Catch. Okay. You can make your own ketchup at home. It's a lot easier to eat Heinz. And you know that that's already prepared has a season, and then already so that's where the market's going to that. So people still still have home cooking. But it's almost pre prepared for them every night. I come home. I opened the cupboard. I say good evening to chef boyardee love chef boyardee. And hunch, they've got all these great ten for ten deals rice aronie essential every day, stuffed up all of meaning credible stuff. You need to get out to market, and yes, if you're into Danan yogurt, and who isn't you can get ten for five right now. So get out to Kuhn's market as the holidays are fast approaching. We're gonna take a break a couple of moments. But before we go to a break how are things going at the stores and right now stores are.

Who do you think is one of the most overrated actors vault on actors aimed or actress known come for me? I hate Tom Cruise. So, you know, good. I don't everyone thinks he's so awesome. And so hot. Been hot since Jerry Maguire. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's, but you know, what though that boy can run his ass. Won't you Tom Cruise? But when I go to top cruise movie, I know he can run his mother fucking him. But I don't think he's the best thing ever like, I agree movies. But of the battle of the the the the white male actors from the late eighties early nineties. It was always like who's the best time cruiser Brad Pitt. And I think time has shown that Brad Pitt is the better of the two 'cause I will watch anything Brad Pitt's way. If you ain't seen Troy kill yourself. Right. A good the movie, so I like a lot of Brad Pitt's movies. I don't think I've watched anything that Tom Cruise has been in since Jerry Maguire or I'm wasting fight club. Gun news. Yeah. Okay. Good to the movies and watch the Tom Cruise movie division possible. Yeah. We did see those are still pretty good. I'd be like that. I don't like spy movies. Okay. Anyway, that's part was when he smashes his ankle on the building. Like, oh, he really did. Spices. Shoot to anyway. Donald. Money. I'm sorry. We got John Travolta. Yeah. Yeah. I don't like anything. He's another one I pick and choose. Faceoff? Okay. One movie at all move his face. And honestly I liked face off better. Because. Yeah. Like he could have been the one that got like fell off the top of a roof and rental about training. I've been good that that was great. And lately to Joshua in a bunch of tear garbage. He was an Godley movie the movie about John Godley, and he got like a two percent around tomatoes is bad. He's got only. He's he's another one. I only like a handful his movies like face off. Obviously broken arrow was a good one. Forget about that one. That is good. I mean, he's got a few. But like I say a few can count on one hand. He's not the greatest now. All right. Yeah. He can't run. So he don't have that redeeming fact now he easily. Here under from that. You ain't dance and they're doing some shit. We know, you know, who almost take though who Patrick Swayze, Patrick swayze's got a good offensive soul. Few good one. Honestly, besides ghost. I've never liked him in anything. I liked ghost. There's not a single movie that I like wolf airline on I will televise because John rallies in it. I almost didn't go see the LEGO movie. I heard welfare was going to be in it. It's like that. Like, I don't wanna I don't wanna see show. I don't like I don't. I don't like stepbrothers. Of that and destroy classic. Yeah. "I tell you, you know, on vacation, the watch is great. And. Because they're just a few things that you need to like directions, walking directions. Great, really great. I wish we'd had walkie-talkie that would have been handy because I often got separated from my party. And then I like to know how many miles I walked, Lisa would say at the end of the day. Okay. How many miles walking? I just looking. No lunch today, I guess. Yeah, thank you. It's cheap to charge. Right. I saw that. I'll see if Google announces a new. Google watch. I guess I'll. Have a have the Samsung gear as three frontier, which also has been updated. And I never wear it because I wear my apple watch all the time. So. I'm failing. All right. Yeah, baby Leo LaPorte. They tech guy. Eight, ask Leo the phone number Bob, Ventura, California, hey, Bob. Avio Leo how I am. Great. Thank you. Missed you missed you last couple of weekends. I I've been listening to you since I had a twelve foot satellite dish in my backyard. Holy cow tech TV. Yeah, ZD TV back and I followed a lot of your recommendations over the years. But one of the things I'm noticing recently is that you haven't been ever have been advocating for our and antivirus stuff recently. And of course, while you're on vacation, I notice from me set. My antivirus is expiring and I am. I remember I don't see anything that they've ever caught. They've brought to my attention quarantine I see some block up ads come up every once in a while most no file our block. And so I'm kind of curious as to as to what I should be doing here. I do use carbonite on on my main business computer and I do have five computers to desktops. And yeah, three desktops to laptops. And is business computer for one, and I do build a niche authority websites. So I'm I'm confused as to what your recommendations are now about keeping the antivirus current or just going to carbonite or making sure that all my computers up to two windows ten or so, I'm a little confused. I wonder if point me in the right direction. So. It's a good, it's great question. And you said something very interesting. 'cause people are saying, well, he's asked about anti virus, but then he's mentioning backup, but it it is absolutely the case. One of the most important security measures you can take is to have good backups and by good. I mean multiple copies, not just one, ideally three or more one of them at least one of them off site out of the office out of the building so that if you know there's a fire, something that you still have a good copy off off the premises. So doing that, which I like, and that's really important because if you get bit by a virus, the ba-, especially if it's ransom where you know the ones that encrypt your hard drive, having a good backup is going to save your life. Okay. Well, then let me let me ask you what considerations this is, but make sure that all computers are on carbonite, and then I do have external hard drives and I and they're connected to the computer. And I've been thinking about buying a second external hard drive for each computer and then maybe every month alternating themselve scenario gap. Yeah. So this where the three come in, it's good to have Carmen, I, but I also like having a local backup. And so it's nice to have a local back. I mean, they're gap, you say, that's an interesting thing to that means you're not attached the computer and it is. It is the case. If you left that external hard drive connected all the time and you got some of them, our viruses would be smart enough to encrypted as well your backups as well as your originals, so carbonite. That's not a problem, and it's not a problem if you're not always connected if your air gap as you say. So those are. That's all a good strategy. I don't anymore recommend buying anti-viruses I, that has changed and I'm. I'm not sure. I would say universally, there are some people people who are act dangerously on the internet, having a good antivirus probably will help them a little bit. But you point out the really important point you've not been bit by because you're smart, you're updating your computer. You're not taking software from strangers. You're probably a little bit cynical when it comes to, you know, pop ups and things like that..
