This just in from The Washington Post, uh, Mar-a-Lago classified papers help U.S. secrets about Iran and China. Some of the classified documents recovered by the FBI from Mar-a-Lago included highly sensitive intelligence regarding Iran and China. Such information could expose its intelligence gathering methods that the U.S. wants to keep hidden from the world, at least one of the documents and describes Iran's missile program. Oh my God. Okay, and other documents describe highly sensitive intelligence work aimed at China. Okay, well, wow, Glenn. I mean, this is we were just talking during the break. This just does not get more serious. These crimes against the United States. More serious or more dangerous, right? National defense information, information about the nuclear and defense programs of foreign countries, all sitting in Donald Trump's office at Mar-a-Lago. And I was really impressed with all of the empty classified documents folders that were seized from his office. Dozens of them because one thing I can pretty much guarantee. When he was leaving The White House, preparing to steal everything that wasn't nailed down. I am quite sure he didn't turn to his aides and assistance and say, what I'm going to need you all to do, there's a whole bunch of empty folders. I'm going to need you to pack them up and get them down to my office proper at Mar-a-Lago. You know, he compromised our national security by doing whatever that he did with those classified documents. But you know what? This may be the first indictment we see after the midterms because it's so clear, so compelling so dangerous. And it's so important to send a message to others who might be considering compromising our national security in the future to deter that kind of content. Yeah, and these are human sources as well. I mean, a lot of people talking about the tragedy of the stupid Durham investigation. Is that blew up? I forget his name, but one of our best Russian sources, right? That was unnecessarily charged, and then of course, you know, not convicted of anything. Yeah, not only not convicted, but, you know, both trials that Durham has brought. I mean, they failed spectacularly, and I remember what the juror said after the last. And we're going to hear about that right after this heartbreak. You are lawn drive home. Just got even easier. "Most Britons weren't forget today's events. Some compare this with Winston Churchill's state funeral nearly 60 years ago. Yet this day, this collective farewell to the queen also came as a relief, since Meghan Montgomery, who's in the square among the crowd. She's 25 and comes from Belfast in Northern Ireland. It gives a better closure for everyone. I'll say because you know after she died and it's been ten days since so it's been a long process at fail. You know, so it's nice to come to a close and a nice way that everyone can charge together. Philip Reeves NPR news Newcastle. On this Monday afternoon, our time now is four 44, I'm glad you are long for all things considered on 90.1. I'm Jim baris. More than for more than three decades, the democracy program at the Atlanta based Carter center has observed more than a hundred elections in the farthest reaches of the globe, including Africa. Latin America, and Asia. And for the first time, it's enlisting some of those concepts here in the U.S., says Avery Davis Roberts, she leads U.S. election work for the Carter center. Recently, we spoke about it. The candidate principles for trusted elections initiative is a cross partisan effort to really try and encourage candidates and political parties and voters to uphold 5 core doctrines of democratic elections integrity, nonviolence, security, oversight, and the peaceful transfer of power. And we're really trying to focus on candidates here because we think as leaders in our communities and as people that we are asking to represent us, we really think that they have a special responsibility to uphold these core principles. What prompted this? You know, we are seeing that there is low trust in elections and low trust in election elected officials. There is miss and disinformation about election. We're seeing that there are threats of violence, threats of violence and intimidation against our election officials, the people who are sort of the frontline workers of our elections. And we really felt that we needed to find a way to demonstrate that actually most Americans support these core principles. The Carter centers worked for decades in other countries to cement free fair and peaceful elections, what does it say though now that that effort is required in the U.S.? I always start from the position that no election or democratic process is perfect. It will say though that, you know, we are at a sort of a moment, I think, in our in our history where we are seeing unprecedented levels of mistrust. There's been survey research that indicates that people are less trusting of pretty much every sector in our society and including we have increased mistrust about one another and our motive the motivations of our neighbors and our Friends. And so in this environment of mis and distrust, you know, it's been clear that that has also been directed in our election process. And we want to do what we can to promote confidence in our democratic institutions. For the upcoming midterms, you're focusing on Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and Michigan. Why these states? We used a few criteria to identify where we could help among those criteria were places where there had maybe been some contestation around the last elections, but also places where data indicates that there is a heightened risk of potential political violence. And so the democracy program where I set in our conflict resolution program are working together on this on our U.S. elections program to try and as I said, help increase trust in elections, trust in our democratic institutions, but also to help maybe increase the resilience of communities so that the risk of political violence is lower. And you do mention this is a bipartisan effort and here in Georgia you've got some high profile Republicans and Democrats who have signed on. Talk about who's already put their name on this initiative. Just this week, we were really pleased that the three candidates running for Secretary of State have endorsed the candidate principles. Among others, we have Roy Barnes former governor of Georgia has signed William S Cohen the former Secretary of Defense from who is a Republican from Maine, has signed up. Andrew Young, we have just there's quite a wide array of people who have voiced their support for these principles. I think really demonstrating that it is these are core principles that we can agree to as Americans regardless of our political party affiliation or how we vote. Avery Davis Roberts is the associate director for the Carter center's democracy program and leads U.S. election work. Thank you so much for talking to us this afternoon. We appreciate it

"But Ohio State finished 20 second, an opponent adjusted EPA for Russia. And I don't think Notre-Dame offensive line is that elite. I think they're good. I think they're going to make some improvements. But a team that was 65 in adjusted line yards below 65th an opportunity rate power success rate and stuff right. There's also a real chance Jared Patterson, one of their best linemen could miss this game. He played center last year, graded out the 15th best center in the country. You look at Notre-Dame's lead back, he's 5, 9, a 195 pounds and Chris Tyree. Is that really the guy that's going to be a bell cow in this spot four yards a carry, one of the worst elusive ratings among qualifying power 5 backslash season. I actually think tyrese a better pass catcher. Should be the guy that we watch between the tackles. I think we're going to see more read option more designed runs from Tyler Buckner. But this is just, again, a really, really tall task because if Notre-Dame can't run efficiently. I don't know what the second option is. We're talking about a unit that finished outside the top 70 and EPA per rush last season. I don't think the run game upgrades that quickly. You're going to need Michael Mayer and Lorenzo style simultaneously to be dominant and explosive. Avery Davis also went down on offense. Certainly intrigued to hear what Brad has to say about the Irish offense here. Yeah, Brad, I'll open the floor up to you as far as what we can expect from Notre-Dame's offense. And then we can comment a little bit on Jim Knowles. I know the pain mentioned. Him obviously coming over from Oklahoma state, a lot of optimism for the scarlet and gray faithful thinking this is suddenly going to be a unit catapulted into the top ten and I've even seen prognosticator share. This could be a top 5 defense, but he hasn't necessarily realized the heights of what his expertise can get in some of his previous stops. But when you look at Notre-Dame offensively, to pain's point, there's no doubt a shortage of weapons, especially for week one. Yeah, so it's interesting that obviously Notre-Dame just played Oklahoma state in the bowl game. Knowles didn't coach the game, but obviously his scheme was in place and in order name had success through the past game against that Oklahoma state defense. Now, the talent level for Ohio State is significantly better, particularly on the defensive line, I think. Maybe one of the mispricings here, I think Ohio State's defense align is going to be really, really good. I think people forget that JTT and Jack Sawyer were one, two, as far as 5 star recruits on the defensive line last year. Now their true sophomores and I expect better production there. They still have Zach Harris. You mentioned the Notre-Dame offensive line, which I think is going to end up being a good unit. I'm not sure if they're a good unit right now. Patterson flipped from center to left guard, so they get the 5 best players on a line, see corella is going to play center. And now Patterson, I would say more doubtful than questionable at left guard. I like Notre-Dame's two tackles all in Fisher, but they're also true sophomores playing in an extremely hostile environment with a quarterback. If you don't know the Buckner backstory, guy played one year of high school football set a ton of state records in the state of California. Then tore up his need in play and then in play because of COVID so there's two years and then play much last year. So we're talking a guy that's mainly played one season of football the last four years, at least a full season. I think Ohio State's defense actually, even with all the struggles last year, and even with the first game of a new coordinator, I actually, and we've heard the word violent. Is the word I've heard a couple times out of Ohio State's fall camp on that defense side. I think they have their way with Notre-Dame. Going to be interesting to watch that side of the ball, but if the Irish are going to be competitive, they're going to have to try and find a way to slow down Ohio State's high powered offense that many have called arguably not the best in the country this year, but one that could flirt with all time greatness, maybe even rivaling what we saw from Joe burrow and company. So I guess Brad, I'll come right back to you. I mean, is there any hope for Notre-Dame's defensive slowing down this offensive onslaught from Ohio State other than potentially with prayer answered by touchdown Jesus? Well, I do like noting the defensive line. So I think they can have some success maybe slowing down Ohio State's run game. But I'm here to tell you there's a significant mismatch on the outside. Normally when you see it's a top 5 match up, you don't see a talent disparity like you're going to see with Ohio State's wide receivers were names defensive backs. I mean, I tweeted this out in the summer. In Notre-Dame's defensive backs are all three stars. And not even highly rated three stars. We're talking none of them. We're in the top 600 coming out of high school overall players. Compare that to Iowa state's wide receiver core, where it's 5 star 5 star 5 star. Oh yeah, and then Marvin Harrison junior, who's only a top 100 recruit, high four stars, probably in my opinion, going to be a top ten wide receiver in college football this year. I just don't see it on the outside. I think Ohio State's passing game will have their way and do whatever they want. Regardless of whether or not they can have success in the run game against an order name. Pain, have you identified any weaknesses whatsoever with what Ohio State wants to do offensively knowing that CJ Stroud has another year in the system. Brad talked about some of their weapons. And everywhere you look, there's a player capable of getting the ball in his hands and taking it to the House from 20 yards, 50 yards or even inside the shadow of their own end zone. I think what's really interesting. I do like Notre-Dame front 7, maybe from a pressure perspective. But everyone seems to be bypassing the fact that Notre-Dame was a little soft against the run last season outside the top 60 in line yards 42nd an opportunity rate all told when you adjust for opponent. 97th in EPA per Russia allowed. With CJ Stroud in this receiver group, you're not going to be able to load the box. And then you have Trayvon Henderson and Mayan Williams could be the best running back tandem in college football. Henderson turned 19% of his carries into ten plus yard gains.

"Folks, welcome in, it is the football betting guy here in Vicente sports betting network good show and tap today. A lot of smart people are going to join us, of course. I'm all Sean with us in 30 minutes. He's an Ohio State, guys. We're going to get his thoughts on Ohio State, their first opponent of their name, who will talk about momentarily and what the buck eyes have in store for them. And the big picture in college football and speaking of college football, we're going to do math today, but it's fun math and it actually, I think, has unveiled a little bit of an edge in a prop that has recently posted. So we'll discuss that in the second hour, Charles on the Charles arbuckle is going to be with us. One, we're going to talk about the PAC 12 and we can talk a little bit about UCLA and that conference, I guess, but being a former colt tight end will just talk about the colts. No, we'll talk about the PAC 12 with Charles, and then of course tank Williams is going to join us at four 15 p.m. Pacific time and from pro football focus. They do a lot of great work and their stats and analysis numbers, big part of my football handicapping Ben Brown will be with us at four 30 p.m. Pacific time. But we start with football that actually just kicked off into the second half. The lone preseason game of the day is still underway. Second half just got started 1454 left to go in the third quarter, the Raiders are up on top of the Minnesota Vikings tend to 6 as it stands right now. Interesting in terms of a result because we saw quite the move here for the market. Twofold. One, we knew that Kirk Cousins wasn't going to play. We also got the news of course so that or just the thought process that Josh McDaniels in the Raiders just won to win some of these games. I guess it's not really news. So we saw this number peak as high as 5 and a half if they were of the Raiders before it closed at 5 total, got bet up from 34 all the way to 39. This thing trending under, which would be a rarity and that's where we dive into right now at this point because it has been a high scoring pre season. So far, how about this from our own Dave tuley, tweets out everything about all the sports at the end of every single day. So we get a little example. We had dogs lead 86 straight up. They're 9 and 5 against the spread and week one of the preseason, one game close pick according to Tully road teams 8 and 7 straight up. I don't really think the road team thing really matters in the preseason. But how about that? Overs in this week one because remember Hall of Fame game doesn't count as week one, 12 and three. And if you include the neutral side Hall of Fame game, then we're talking about over leading 13 to three and of course 8 and 7 straight up with one pick that would be the dogs. So this has been a high scoring pre season up to this point. Now this is going more along the lines of what we're thinking here, which is a low scoring affair, but I would say that this is more than anything in aberration. I think it's probably just a little bit of a hot streak, but it's pretty interesting just given the fact that one, general thought is, but these games under the total, and two, for Matt Eubanks, we talked about this on the edge earlier this week and he had noted that in 2021, 15 of the first 17 games in the preseason, you include the Hall of Fame game, went under the total. So this flying right in the face of a trend that was really strong last year that being first week unders. Well, this week or this year, its first week over. So we'll see if this continues here in the second half again, 16 points total between the Raiders and the Vikings. Raiders right now have a third down that they're not going to convert so it looks like they'll be able to punt it away, but who knows? Preseason gets a little wacky, maybe you want to work on your fourth down offense. So with that, let's dive into some news and notes if you've been living under a rock somewhere. You don't know what happened the other day, but the New York Jets lost a pretty important piece and we'll start with Zach Wilson, who looks like he's going to be out two to four weeks with a knee injury. I'm not really smart, and I don't talk to people in the New York Jets. So let's listen to Tom hello Cerro, of NFL network give us the down low in terms of what his injury is and the length of time that he could miss. We're at the good news for Zach Wilson and the jets are that his ligaments, including his ACL, are intact. However, he does have a bone bruise and a meniscus tear that's going to require arthroscopic surgery, the estimated timetable in the jets mind is two to four weeks. However, realistically, it's much more often than we're closer to four weeks on that timetable, which brings up the very real possibility it could end up being Joe Flacco, not Zach Wilson starting against Flacco's old team the ravens come September 11th. Everything we really needed. Joe Flacco starting a football game for us in the year of our lord 2022. So it looks like Joe Flacco is going to get that nod for week one. If you read other reports in terms of just the length of the injury for other guys that have suffered this pelvis right, it's more toward the four week timeline than it is to two week timeline. So it does look like Zach Wilson is not going to be available. But a very big, big mist of not even, I guess, you just miss out on the skin of your teeth by some really bad luck there. The jets get pretty lucky as he's not going to be out for a very, very long time. Now some of the results of this because there was moves in the market. The jets win total goes down to 5 and a half shaded to the over minus one 75. The now jets are catching 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. Remember, when this number first popped up all the way back in May, it opened up four and a half in favor of Baltimore. So they're going to be a pretty sizable home dog. And remember now two because this is what is going on with the jets because the jets can never have anything nice. These are now it's not cluster injuries at the same position, but it's cluster injuries on the offensive side of the football as Zach Wilson suffers an injury two to four weeks with Kai Becton as we know is out for the foreseeable future with this knee injury that he suffered. So this is quite the blow for a New York Jets team that I thought if you came into this year had quietly done like a sneaky good job of putting everything in front of Zach Wilson from an offensive standpoint and saying, look, man, you got the pieces. Now this year is about your development. But look at their skill position players. I mean, your top three wide receivers. Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson, along the offensive line, Lake and Tomlinson coming in. Connor mcgovern Elijah Tucker, at least in terms of run blocking, turned out to be pretty good. It has to work on his pass blocking, but seems like he's got a pretty bright future as an offensive lineman. George fan, they bring in Duane Brown as well as a nice contingency plan for filling the shoes in the Becton, and at running back Michael Carter and Bruce hall. Around Zach Wilson coming into this year, there is a lot to life. So now it's all about Wilson and what he's going to be able to do as a quarterback for the New York Jets. What is development is going to look like? And I get it like there was a lot of, hey, you know, last few games of the regular season last year looks pretty good. But for me, when you dive into some of those numbers, they still don't really look great. And while he cut down on the turnover where he plays, there was no really dynamic play for Wilson. So what he was going to be this year, and we'll still see him. Albeit though, a little bit later, and I'm banged up knee. It is a pretty fascinating situation for New York as they head into the regular season. So that's pretty big for the New York Jets. They are not going to miss an extended period of time for Zach Wilson and he'll be back. It seems very, very early on. At the beginning of the regular season. So we move on to college football, and this is a pretty big story. I would say because it's got ripple effects, right? Notre-Dame, who we're going to see play Ohio State when the season kicks off in a little less than a month. Well, it's two bits of news coming from Notre-Dame. First off, they lose expected starting slot receiver Avery Davis for the season. Looks like Davis tore his ACL in practice the other day for those who don't remember Davis in 2021, 27 receptions, 386 yards, four touchdowns. I think it's a pretty big blow for a team that lost its leading receiver from a year ago. And it is breaking in a full-time starter at quarterback now because part of the press conference in announcing the Davis is going to be done for the year is that Tyler Buckner was named the starting quarterback for that game September 3rd at Ohio State. So this is pretty interesting for this Notre-Dame team coming into a year. Total of 8 and a half for the win total shade it to the over at minus one 50, you start off right away with a massive opponent, you're a 15 and a half point underdog, which we'll talk about momentarily. And you're breaking in a new quarterback and Buckner who, while he did appear in every game last season and had a pretty solid performance in helping lead a comeback against Virginia tax didn't finish it off, but it was a big part of it. And you're looking at a Notre-Dame team with overall 15 guys coming back and you're thinking, hey man, as the kids say, sealing is the roof for Notre-Dame potentially, but I'm really, when

"And ankle injury suffered unlike most college football players will ever suffer during their time. He stumbled down the stairs after meeting with a history professor. I'm not sure most college football players even know who their history professors are, but this is why we know Notre-Dame has slightly more rigorous academic standards. Questions abound in the backfield as well when you lose a player like kyron Williams, Logan Diggs was expected to be the guy, but he suffers a torn labrum in the spring game and suddenly a Notre-Dame receiving room has a bevy of questions as there's no proven commodity there other than who most people believe will be the number one tight end selected in next year's NFL Draft and Michael Mayer. Fortunately for the Irish show, they have continuity along the offensive line and for stretches last year that was the biggest Eunice. Biggest weakness for this unit. Year three for Tommy Reese, as Notre-Dame's OC. It feels like a big season for him. Largely because the feedback from those who follow intently or cover the team that also have access to data is that Tommy Reese is solid, but he hasn't proven to be great or even innovative. The offense is completely Tommy Reese's now. He doesn't have to cater to Brian Kelly. But he also can't hide behind it being someone else's either. So let's see what this looks like. And it's great Notre-Dame landed CJ Carr, the number four quarterback in the 2024 class. But it's July 2022. Is Notre-Dame going to be able to keep car if it doesn't appear Tommy Reese can improve Tyler Buckner's game. Can you keep car if the offensive efficiency regresses and you only win 8 or 9 games each of the next two seasons? Just feels like a really big year for Tommy Reese and not many are talking about it. What he has to work with this season is an Uber talented Tyler Buckner high four star fringe top ten quarterback in the 2021 class. Buckner has talent. He's got upside great mobility for a quarterback. His reps were limited last season as you pointed out would have been great having him see live bullets in the spring game, but that ankle injury hindered his ability to do that. What I see from an extremely small sample. And that's the caveat. Tyler Buckner was solid when you kept him clean. 81% adjusted accuracy there. When Buckner had the chance to throw with play action, one 36 passer rating. But when you got pressure on him naturally, Buckner struggled to process. When you didn't blitz him and made him go through progressions from the pocket, he struggled. Those are things you would expect from a true freshman. I think some of that gets cleaned up. I would expect far more read option with loads of design runs. Again, very small sample, but that's kind of the skinny on Tyler Buckner. Notre-Dame's offensive line is going to be damn good. And this is another position group that requires manual adjustment. That is great. And many have access to it these days and people expanding their abilities building models is fantastic. You have to play at this level. But they're still handicapping that goes into this. You have to make tweaks. And specific to Notre-Dame's offensive line, it was injured early last season. Dame played with four different left tackle combinations the first 6 games. That week in other positions along the line because guys were playing out of position. Blake Fisher, a top 60 player in the 2021 class at tackle tourism meniscus, the opening game as well. He's back. It was a young unit. But once the young guys got game action, and then you had Joe alt return at left tackle along with Andrew Christoph at guard. The Irish old line surged the final 6 games. So using season long metrics for your priors with Notre-Dame's O line isn't smart unless you're making some of these manual tweaks. Running back room, as you mentioned, lost kyron Williams, not just a good running back but have really nice receiver out of the backfield Logan digs towards labrum in spring. He's going to miss the early part of the season. Price looked fantastic this spring. He tore his Achilles recently. Chris Tyree is a familiar name, but I don't think he's a belt cow in stature or ability, so I think will be the beneficiary. He runs hard, has an ability to break tackles. He keeps the pile moving forward. Look for him as kind of the sleeper out of the backfield. Receiver room has questions to your point. I think if health remains Tommy Reese can piece together a decent group of pass catchers here, it helps having an elite tight end and Michael Mayer two yards per route run from the position. Super strong hands so he constantly wins his contested catches. Mayors versatile. Can play inline can play in the slot. Second most valuable tight end in the country last season. Notre-Dame does have three veterans in Avery Davis, Brandon Leslie and Joe Wilkins. But the guy that really keep an E on an ion. Lorenzo styles had a great freshman year, high four star kid with deep speed. If Lorenzo styles takes that next step and becomes a trusted weapon downfield and you have mayor dominating underneath. That's a really nice duo. And then look at the defensive schedule. Elite defensive unit hosting Clemson off their by. Ohio State out of the shoot with a brand new D.C. operating a complex scheme. But aside from those two games, our average projected efficiency rank of the ten other defenses Notre-Dame will face this season. 70th. So I do think if you can get Tyler Buckner to even play at a level close to his rating. This offense does have a chance, but I'm really interested to see what it looks like with Tommy Reese having full control. We know Brian Kelly for all of his potential shortcomings and recruiting or being labeled lazy or not playing ball with the boosters. He was a very good offensive mind in scheme and designing and game planning. That's all on Tommy Reese's shoulders now. An interesting team on that front because we know they're going to get tested right out of the gates. Can they match the Buckeye score for score? But again, Irish fans out there. You don't use that as the determining factor, even if you lose that game by three touchdowns in Columbus, you have to follow it up with wins in successive weeks and home games against Marshall Cal. And then another test where the Irish will be less than a touchdown favorite, but a game they should win in Chapel Hill. Against North Carolina. When we look at this fighting Irish group on the defensive side of the ball, Al golden steps in, he's now the fourth new defensive coordinator in 6 seasons, the third and three years. This was an Irish defensive line that does have a player to build around and Isaiah foskey, who's got a first round draft greatest thing stand now. Linebacking core has experienced, but the $100 million question that I think a lot of people will ask, are there true difference makers there? Meanwhile, in the secondary, losing a player like Kyle Hamilton isn't easy, but let's not ignore the fact that Hamilton missed the final 6 games anchoring the Irish secondary and two Marcus Freeman's credit. He goes out and he brings in northwestern transfer Brandon Joseph, who I think can be leaned upon as a reliable stalwart in the back.

"Is wisconsin defense. Who's going to make life miserable for everything. Notre dame wants to do on the offensive side and when you look at the irish. His ground game pain. I mean kyran williams this season. If you back out to carey's has averaged two point seven yards pop. Good luck trying to get on track against this wisconsin defensive front if he can't protect jack cohn and he's not able to keep that stop unit honest spot on. I mean the question. We had coming into the season. With notre dame's offense was the they're replacing four five starters. Four now on nfl rosters. I know the sample size is small in the talent is. They're just young so your hope is with experience that the improvement kind of comes throughout the season. But that question mark that we had kind of been answered in the answer is it's a big frigging brabham upfront for the irish. Now maybe their second-string left tackle plays this week with with michael carmody. That could help. Something played week when it floored steak got injured. He was questionable all last week. Leading up to the purdue game and instead they went with their third string left tackle so there could be a little bit of a boost there but bottom line notre dame's line is not creating any push in the ground game even though you have to. Nfl backs and williams and tyree. The irish are one hundred. Twenty i in. Epa pa- russia for the old line hasn't just been bad. Creating push for the ground game. Jacqueline's been running for his life now. A lot of people are saying hey holds onto the ball too long. That's why the pass protection hasn't been great. Maybe so but he's been pressure on forty one percent of dropbox the last two weeks against toledo and purdue relatively speaking to good defensive lines but nowhere remotely close to what wisconsin's sevens and both those games were at home now. You might have a little louder venue. They're soldier field. And you know maybe some communication issues but i. I just don't understand why there hasn't been that push up front. That's that's the real scary part when you have that much talent even if it is young the one thing. Wisconsin defense is done in an absolute elite level with jim. Watered is stopping the run and making you one dimensional no different this season wisconsin's number two in. Epa per rush out only seventeen percent of runs of great successful. It's the best mark in the power. Five by roughly eight percent so it is going to come down to jack cohn in in a revenge game being able to bigger bench rates. Some explosives use reverse job to grand. Mercy's no jack cohen. This game circled. This is the one you had circled. And in that is the one area where wisconsin's spent a little bit vulnerable the last few seasons because they're so aggressive right maybe cone can diagnose things before they happen cone. Did a had a presser this week in. Would you said something interesting. It was kind of one of those. Like i'm not sure if this guy's got something is sleepy so he basically ended the press conference with this is going to be huge challenge for us but i want against this defense practice for four years so i know what they're going to do and i left that like. Maybe he knows something. I don't maybe this is like going to be like the game of his life. But what's interesting to me and kind of doubling back to what we discussed the top is. Let's see if if jim leonard takes a different approach defensively and maybe he's not so aggressive this week if the badgers can stop. Notre dame's ground game with six and then get pressure with their front four like toledo and promoted leonard than keep more guys in coverage throw a different look at jackson that he didn't see for four years of practice everyday. That could be something to watch for. You know an end because you had that by week. You have the ability to implement a few more wrinkles in a game like this. Y'all still have to wonder if jack cones dislocated finger from the last possession till toledo game is bugging him a little bit. He has worst passing performance of the season last week. Twenty nine percent passing success rate five point yards and attempt did miss a lot of those intermediate throws and they were credited to him being accurate. i also know. The irish receivers had five drops. It was it was ugly through the air altogether. You had the long. Avery davis in the chiron williams passing touchdowns. That's what basically kept cones. Epa numbers respectable. We touched on produce secondary last week. Todd we said this is pretty veteran group but it is something to think about that. This finger issue might be something that that looms even this week. Yeah i think the one thing that surprised me. A little bit was notre dame's inability to get their best offensive weapon. Involved in the win against purdue now they were able to cover. There was dropped touchdown. Pass you mentioned some of the other drops that were there and a lot of the momentum plays didn't go their way. The defense rose the occasion. But mike needs to catch more than one ball for five yards when you step up in class after compiling sixteen catches through the first two games of the season. So it'll be interesting to see how they can get him involved force wisconsin's linebackers not to be able to play downhill. But to respect some of that passing game. And i think that's the matchup that all of us is we tune into this game. Wanna watch it's that notre dame offense can they correct some of those protection issues that have plagued them through three weeks against the wisconsin defense. It's getting healthier. We know they're ferocious and has two weeks to prepare. Have a feeling this contest. We're gonna know pretty early on at soldier field which the right side is in this particular football game last but not least pain head down to jerry's world for the other ranked on ranked matchup of the weekend..

"Conference straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless. And let's get straight to it. Notre Dame was trailing with less than 90 seconds to go. Jack Cohen leads them on a touchdown drive. And now Notre Dame has the lead 32 29 in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute ago, Jack Cone Throws the touchdown. It was with a minute nine to go in the fourth. Trevor and look, It's been a mixed bag today for Cone. Earlier he was essentially benched and they needed a shot in the arm, and they brought in the true freshman to give it to him. Yes, they did. And they kind of had to because the offense was moving the ball, but it wasn't finishing. They were, um behind. 16 to 14 at the end of the first half, and then in the second half, they end up having all kinds of problems on offense. They end up with a fumble. They that leads to a touchdown for Toledo in the second half a long touchdown drive, then incomes the freshman now that's kind of kind of weird because you didn't Cone would be the guy they want. But Tyler Buckner came in and ran to drives. The first drive was a 55 yard touchdown pass to running back Chris Tyree. Okay, that worked out pretty well. The next drive. They're moving the ball with Buckner and they end up fumbling the ball. Kyra Williams running back, fumbled the ball and Toledo gets it back. So then cone comes back in now they're trailing 29 to 24. And Cone comes back in and leads a three play touchdown drive to go up 32 29. They scored the touchdown. They got the two point conversion, and now they're up by three with about a minute to go. So cone there was a fire lit under him, for goodness sake when Butler came in and did a lot of really good things, But Notre Dame realized that late in this game, they needed experience rather than a hotshot rookie to make sure that they were able to distribute the ball to the guys and distributed to and that dust down, wasn't it? 18 yard throw. The tight end Michel Mayor Michael Mayer last week against Florida State and keep dropped late did they were able to still win. But last week, nine catches 120 yards and a touchdown, this one from 18 yards out from Jack Cone, and then they go for two. To go up. Three. Avery Davis Little trickeration Kyron Williams for the two point conversion and so right now number eight Notre Dame with a 32 to 29 lead over Toledo. Notre Dame has won 24 consecutive home games. Dating back to 2017. That's the second longest active streak across the FBS. Second only to Clemson is 1 28 consecutive home games, and it's the longest home win streak by the fighting Irish Since winning 28 straight on their home turf from 1942 to 19 fifties, So we'll see if Notre Dame can hang on its 1st and 15 for Toledo at their own eight yard line. They started out with a false start. Not a good start for your potentially game tying drive minute nine to go there in the fourth quarter, Jack Cone 21 33 239 yards and two touchdowns. Ah, Toledo's offense has been really good, Brian come back 2021 carry 122 yards and a touchdown. Devin Maddox, eight catches for a buck 22 Jack Cone essentially gets benched comes back in. And delivers them with the lead. 32 to 29 minutes five to go in the fourth straight talk Wireless No contract. No compromise. Trevor. Look when when you look at it, I mean, obviously, Notre Dame. Come off that emotional win last week. There's going to be some questions. Obviously, you know the questions for Brian Kelly are going to be. Is there a quarterback controversy after this one right? And there may be because Jack Cone experienced quarterback transferred in from Wisconsin. But remember that the reason he transferred out of there is a grammars. The freshman was going to take his job. And so there are a lot of people that are waiting to see more from Jack home before they believe in him. Now, he did well last week against Florida State, But keep this in mind if you're a Notre Dame fan. Your team went down to Notre to Tallahassee, Florida State, a team that they should have blown out and ended up blowing a big fourth quarter lead. It was an 18 point fourth quarter lead or second half lead anyway, that Notre Dame blue for it to go to overtime. And then they finally won. Right. Well, okay, so they survived in advance. And now Toledo, which is a good team. A lot of people think that Toledo could win the Mac this year, but see you with a 34 to 32 lead on Calle That one's on ESPN. You Gave me and more with a touchdown run. He's got two on the day. Two point conversion fails Trevor few minutes to go here. Let's look ahead to tonight's games. Let's begin with Washington and Michigan. 7 30 Eastern College games on ESPN radio in the ESPN at some of you will hear that game coming up next here on ESPN Radio Michigan without Ronnie Bell Washington, trying to put last week's loss against Montana and the rear view. What's the deciding factor tonight? Deciding factor is the Washington defense. I think they will be able to slow down this Michigan offense and then allow their office a little bit time to get some things going last week, the Washington offense couldn't run the ball. And they couldn't throw the ball in response, And so I think it's going to have to be a thing where the defensive Washington rises to the occasion, and the offense figures out how to get the ball down the field. Magic. Trevor manage here on college GameDay on ESPN radio again that game coming up tonight You can check it out on ABC or right here on ESPN Radio..

I mean, they could be ahead to an FCS school question playing, there could be a head to, you know, Call it a high school by 30 points in the second half, and Notre Dame fans would be thinking about all the ways that they can Blow the game, right? "Morris joins us. You know that name? He is our expert. Note your day man. A Steve. It's fun to be talking about Notre Dame football for real, Is it not? The way it sure is Bob expecting a full house in Tala half seat tomorrow night. So much college football has been going on Thursday of this week. And then last night today, all day and tonight and tomorrow there's only one game in the country and that is Notre Dame in Florida State and then buy from a Labor Day weekend ends up on Monday with one game, but certainly prime time tomorrow night at 7 30, Notre Dame's about a 6.5 for seven point favorite, and it should be a very interesting game is Notre Dame. Brings in a brand new quarterback for the first time in a long time. Jack Cone, who replaces Ian Book who is now in the NFL, and we'll just see how good this offense can be, with Jack Cone, calling the signals Don't ever pay attention to, uh two lines and point spreads and stuff like that it it goes back to my days and in the world of college athletics, where you weren't allowed to be Part of that, But I'm surprised that Notre Dame isn't favoured more than what they are Bob. They were favored. More than that, back in the late summer and real early fall, the line has been dropping a great deal. In fact, I think Notre Dame started out maybe as a nine point favorites. It has dropped and dropped and he dropped to seven and now in some places, it's dropped to 6.5. So we'll have to wait and see what happens. You know, Florida State is in a very interesting situation. They have had three straight losing seasons. And that's the first time that that has happened since 1974 through 1976, so they are extremely hungry. Let's bring up 1.2. You know, we lost a legend a few weeks ago. Yeah, 1000 passed away and they're not only going to honor Bobby Bowden tomorrow night in the Notre Dame game, a game, but they're going to. They're going to do some special things for him all season. Long, but certainly it will be an emotional night. First time in a long time. You know, Bobby Bowden is not with Florida State. He'll be there. I'm sure in some respects but certainly a tragic loss when Bobby Bowden passed away well, that said this was a Florida state team that wasn't very good last year. Well, you're absolutely correct, Bob. In fact, they were three and six, and they did not have a very good recruiting season getting ready for this year. They have a second year head coach and Mike Normal who came to Florida State from Memphis that you might remember the high octane offense is he ran at Memphis, and that's what they're looking for at Florida State and looking to turn the corner. They're not sure. Yet who their quarterback is going to be. I'm sure they know, but they haven't announced it. Whether it's Mackenzie Milton, who transferred from U. C F or whether it will be sophomore Jordan, Travis, Notre Dame and Florida State played last year in South Bend, Notre Dame won that football game rather handily. 42 to 26. And Notre Dame tomorrow night. We'll be looking for their third straight win in this series, but Florida State still leads us there. You know, these two teams have only played 10 times, and it is a 6 to 4 lead for Florida State as far as the overall series is, is concerned. Steve boards with us. We're talking about Notre Dame in Florida State tomorrow night. So what areas of concern you You're you see them? Watch them. Study them. What concerns you about this matchup tomorrow night? Well, I think the first thing on the Notre Dame side is that wide receiver and that cornerback the backup cornerbacks on the defense. Notre Dame is very inexperienced with with the receivers. That was kind of a weak point last year as well. Notre Dame was not able to get a whole lot of separation from the wide receiver. They're looking for that this year with Kevin Austin. He's one of the wide receivers who they host and Avery Davis or who they host will come back and real. Play a significant role those to keep those two names in mind at wide receiver If Notre Dame is going to have a successful Avery Davis is one of them along with Kevin Austin, but we'll see what happens. So the offensive line Bob they are not decimated from last year's graduation, but certainly there's a lot of new characters on that offensive line, and they're going to have to give Jack Cohen a lot of time to pass the ball because Bob he is completely different as a quarterback than what book has been you Book would tuck the ball and run a heartbeat. That is not Jack Cones Far forte. He wants to stay in that pocket. He's the prototype NFL quarterback, so Notre Dame's offensive line is going to have to give him plenty of time. Well, yeah, that that stands to reason. And also if they expect to run the football much is going to be demanded of this front front five front five or seven that they have on the offensive line. Whole lot of it pushed to this group, does it not? Yeah, for sure. And Kyron Williams. He had a great year last year running the ball for Notre Dame, and he's going to have to do it again this year. You know, Notre Dame has won bin and also won 10 games. Now, I think five times under Brian Kelly, who is beginning his 12th year as head coach, to do that, you're right. They're going to have to have the running game step up, and Kyron Williams will be the main man to get that job done A couple of sideline spot very quickly. Brian Kelly, beginning his 12th year, only one coach has coached more years than Brian Kelly. And that is the legend Kanoute, Rodney. And if Brian Kelly wins four games this year, and that's certainly appears to be a little situation, he will become the all time winningest coach in Notre Dame history. That is impressive. And especially where every year people want to have him fired. Yeah, you for what? You're right. For whatever reason, he didn't win the national title. He didn't do but you know, and all he's done. It's just go out there. And as you point out on the, uh, verge of being the winningest coach in history. And it's amazing to me is how consistently they've played during his tenure. You're right, Bob and listen to this since 2017. Notre Dame's record is 43 wins and only eight defeats, and Kelly does have 5 10 win seasons, including two of the last three of the old, the only stumbling block. You just hit it on the head when they get to the national title or they get to the Final four. Notre Dame has not been competitive at that very next level, and that's what everybody still waiting. I got to tell you about 1988. That was a long time ago, and that's the last time Notre Dame won the national championship. Yeah, we could debate the reasons why, for the next three or four hours without question, I would caution people to understand that college football has changed dramatically in the last decade. Or even going back further without question, But I'm just call me crazy. I believe that winning the way they've won the manner in which they've done it and the level at which they have done it. Over this course of time is incredibly impressive. Yeah, I absolutely agree with you, Bob. I think Brian Kelly overall has done a great job. And I think Brian Kelly has solidified himself as he will be the head coach at Notre Dame until he's ready to say, Well, I'm ready to go into retirement, but just one more thought about this year. Getting off to a good start for Notre Dame is so important because after they play in Tallahassee tomorrow night against Florida State Then they come home and play Alito and Purdue. Notre Dame needs to get off to a three so start because then Notre Dame plays Wisconsin..

"Look out of the shotgun receiver Split two by two man in motion. McKinley from left to right in the backfield. Tirade. 2nd 11 book is gonna tuck and run and be wrapped up and taken down by Byron Young. Irony. Young was tracking in book and in book could only get one yard, so it'll be 3rd and 10. As the clock continues to count down towards nine minutes to go. They used to have those big old Defensive lineman and bingo, thick linebackers, and now it's more athletic kind of slim down players that have the strength to play inside. But the ability to track down skill position players third down and 10 from the Alabama 13 book to the end zone, he overthrew the intended target score on it. And in cut on that route by Saronic and it sailed over his head and you look up at that clock and you see a nine played Dr that's occupied almost four minutes and yet to get on the scoreboard trailing by 24. It's fourth down and 10. That ball may have been tipped a little bit. Where Well, because it to go high on Saronic thought it was anticipated. Well, but it just seemed to fly a little bit high after Hannity and book and you gotta go for it here. This is definitely the right decision by Bryan Callen. They scored on 1/4 down from about an inch out earlier. This is 4th and 10. Book fires inside the five and it's incomplete to the left side looking for Avery Davis. It goes in complete and it's a turn over on downs with 8 43 to play. And the number one team in the country up 31 to 7. "7 40 until halftime, It's third and four Notre Dame on their own 31 trailing 21 7 book from the shotgun throws underneath, complete across the 35 to the 40 yard line. George Tackiest, the tight end moving right to left on the crossing pattern. Catch and run 10 Yard game. First down Irish Excellent decision By Ian Book He saw the defense was blitzing, stood in the pocket and delivered a throat attack US who could have even cut some more yards and he cut back upfield. Attack. It was so excited for that reception of first down an excellent job hanging on the football jackets, only his third catch of the season. Notre Dame all of a sudden, very good on third down, they converted their last Converted three out of four of the last drive on now just converted them first down in San from the 41 book to throw again behind the line of scrimmage, swings it out to Williams across the 40 omen your sideline and went out of bounds. Middle linebacker Dylan Moses caught up with him gain of one, and they continue to find ways to get 23 the ball and that's what you have to do in big games. Get your big playmakers. The football and Karen Williams now has already caught a pitch and two passes to the flat, which means that those safeties are they can't help their human nature. They want to play down to try and make a play, opening up a lot of things for Notre Dame offensive or how good of these Alabama linebackers unbelievable A cell crow when they tackle sideline to sideline. Second down nine book from Under center hands off to the right side of William's across the 40 and tackled on the near numbers at the 43 Yard line. Defensive end Christian bar more First team, all SEC, another Crimson Tide player. You could say that about gain of only one much more difficult. Third down, coming up here right third down and ate the Irish 6 15 left until halftime. They're on their own 43 yard line, and the Alabama defense is stunting now to try and stop the Russian attack for Notre Dame. That one right there, cause Tommy Kramer get tripped up and forcing the biggest third down of the game on the near hash here, moving left to right bookies in the shotgun, three wide receivers to his left. Now Avery Davis motions from left to right back to the left side takes the snap drops back. They rush four. They hit him as he releases the ball incompletes over the middle to Avery.

"Cowboys used to have it with Aikman, Urban and Emmett, You can't match up. They are. These teams cannot match up and that's gonna be Notre Dame's challenge in this game. Let me go to the other side of that. Sure. We saw Florida offensively, have a ton of success against Alabama. They've done it to everybody. What did Florida do that Notre Dame might somehow be able to duplicate? Do you see anything? Well, it's about personnel Dari, and it's. It's players that Nick Saban highlighted prior to that game, he said. It's gonna be almost impossible to handle you talk about Canarias. Tony, who's going to deal with that area's Tony with his great versatility. Who's gonna deal with Kyle pits? Okay. You don't have players that can match up there. You just don't have. Notre Dame doesn't present that challenge You think about Notre Dame. I think Avery Davison Jovon McKinley two players that were keys to this offense. Keys for handbook. Later in the year. They were non factors against Clemson. Avery Davis to catch Is 15 Yards. McKinley three For 37. They did nothing. Okay, Clemson completely eliminated them from the equation. You got a true freshman tight and Michel mayor. He's got to be a big factor. Tommy tremble. Another tight end has to be a factor in this football game bench. Chronic. The transfer from Northwestern has to be a factor. But those two other kids, certainly Dari need to step it up. And I think the offensive line in book was running for his life. He had no chance against Clemson. They had six That veteran line has to play a lot better against Alabama. Then they did against clumps now for Alabama Will Anderson Jr. The freshman. All seven of the stacks artery of come over their last four games, Okay in a couple last week. Locking bar more. And Anderson is key to keep it in book upright and not running for his life and allow book that success against this defense. Where you as you mentioned Florida was eight for 11 on third down, Alabama was number one in the country during the regular season. One third down. Okay, defense. Well, Florida had success Can Notre Dame have similar success? I think it's up to the offensive line to protecting in book and allowed and his receivers from beat one on one situations whether they can or not, we'll see. They're not as gifted obviously is the Florida players Tony and Pitts are Number that exemplifies what you are talking about Mel when it comes to the difference in talent, how many passing touchdowns does he and book have all season? 15? How many receiving touchdowns? Does Alabama's Devante Smith have all season? 17 if they had one? Real, legitimate, deep threat speed threat guy that could really keep Alabama defensively offline. What have we seen from Alabama? Defensively, even at least early in the season that has certainly seemed to have improved communication in the secondary communication in the back half guys jumping routes Or maybe you've got Two guys that go deep. One peels off in a safety goes with that one. So does the corner and a guy's left wide open. We saw that a little bit early. We haven't seen that of late Alabama has tightened up. It's playing the secondary and does Notre Dame have anybody that's going to really create chaos in that when they get behind the line backing group? I don't think they do. That's a concert. So now you know, today How much can you run the ball? Cary Williams is 1000 yards back. There's Alabama give up a lot in the run game. Not really. Not lately. That's I mean, So if you're looking at this game, and you're trying to figure out a way to say, I think if Notre Dame hangs around and has a shot, this will have to happen. I can't find that this I can't find the thing that can happen. This Notre Dame have the firepower in the push to do that. I just don't think they do. This is why, While I think Clemson in Ohio State could come down to a late fourth quarter situation now I'm having a hard time thinking that with this game, this is the college football playoff preview special on ESPN radio straight ahead a deep dive. Into Clemson and Ohio State. What a game. It was in the national semifinal a year ago. We get it one more time..

"Ellman as we Dive into top seeded Alabama Man number four Notre Dame this game, of course not in Pasadena. They made that change moved into Arlington, Texas, where a little more than 15,000 or so fans will be able to get into that stadium, a TNT stadium home of the Cowboys, as opposed to Pasadena, where nobody, including family members were going to be allowed to go so Wherever it is. It's still feels to me, Mel Like this is a one sided game like it will be a one sided game like I'm having flashbacks here about eight years to what we saw at the end of the 2012 season, the BCS national championship game or actually, Notre Dame was the one and they were undefeated. But Bama beat him. 40 to 14. Am I out of line? To see this game the same type of way. I think you are. I'm a Notre Dame fan is you know what I try to be objective with with Notre Dame and And you think about last week against Clemson? What happened there? Why did you get blown out by Clemson? And that second match up? Obviously tough to make the same team twice. But certain things happened in that game. Which else I'll touch on. It can't happen in this game. First of all clock management so important, we saw Florida. Not use effective clock. Imagine at the end of the first half. I agree with Gerry Daniels and I disagree with Dan Mullen. It's not just about scoring. It makes making sure that when you score, they don't have any time to score at the end of the first half. That was terrible clock management. You have to be aware of that. And they were like a minute 10 on the clock. I mean, Alabama could score three times in a minute. 10 sometimes, exactly, so that's something I think Brian Kelly will do a better job of and he has two in this game. Then you think about not squandering opportunities. Notre Dame really dominated the first quarter against Clemson. Go back. They had that great Dr Field goal. Great drive down to the five yard line. Can't get it in field goal attempt. No good. Then they have another try. Fourth down pass should have been completed. Avery Davis. I think I made a mistake. There didn't go back towards off the sideline. He went into the sideline book brought him back into the field and complete past three opportunities to get points and we have three. Points. He had a field goal. That's it. You can't squander opportunities. Gonna get touchdowns, not field goals against Alabama. Then don't get manhandled in the trenches. Upfront Defensive line offensive line. You saw it against Clemson Dark. That's not gonna work here and book was has been sacked multiple times. In seven of the last eight starts. Clemson had sick that had six sacks in that game. That offensive line had veteran offensive line his minus Jarod Patterson. They had been their outstanding center. Has to play better in this game. So that's the keys to the game. Certainly for Notre Dame, you mentioned the injury, too. Let's not forget Bama will be without its starting center Landon Dickerson, who left with a knee injury against Florida in the S E. C championship game. Will that impact this line? Because this line this offensive line Alabama has controlled the line of scrimmage when they they have the football. In the beginning of the year. To the end. It's why they are so dangerous. That's why they are so balanced. They're able to protect Mack Jones, who obviously has a variety of weapons, even without Jalen Waddle, Mel, Of course, the emergence of John Michi, the third Among, you know, having Devante Smith as well. Miller Forest, all it at tight end and various other options as well. They have so many guys and oh, by the way. 1200 yard back in nausea Harris, who will run around you passed you and over you that offensive life. If Alabama controls the line of scrimmage when they have the football against Notre Dame. How did the Irish top of that's been the battle? That's been the debate every team that's played Alabama has had. That's the question. I'll ask you. Had Notre Dame slow down Alabama's offense, wealth of talent, Ari that Alabama has allows for you to have injuries and not miss a beat and you mentioned the injury. Landon Dickerson. That's huge because he's a guy they say is our emotional leader are guided. Just dominates is an anchor. You talk about interior pressure, you know, and he doesn't allow it. He's phenomenal, and Dickerson is so who steps in you mentioned Chris Owens. Chris Jones is 1/5 year, senior. He started for the first five games in 2019, its center. He started at right tackle against Arkansas in their final regular season game this year, So he's an experienced guy has been around this program a long time. So the plug into Chris Owens, they don't have Jalen Waddle. That's one way of it had him since what October 24th when he had that kick return to start the game against Tennessee with a fractured ankle. Okay, he's not available, but other guys have stepped up. Jalil Billingsley, a sophomore, tight end has really been a factor down the stretch for them. Okay, John met, she talked about what he's been able to do. But it's all about the Triplets Stargates Devante Smith, who's been unbelievable. He Dari has 54 more catches and Mexico is the number two guy. Anything about nausea? Harris unbelievable running back this year, and Mack Jones, who has been completely passes at a super high rate all year and doesn't throw interceptions that often so again, you're talking about the triplets..
