The Decline of Liberty in Europe

"Had on my show from Holland, Dutch woman was on Tucker Carlson last night. And it was quite something when she described the suppression of liberty. In Europe, and she said, something to the effect it is not it is not shocking that the country. That what is it that gave us that started the suppressions of World War II is now she was referring to Austria and the fact that Hitler was Austrian presumably. And is now leading the utter and total suppression of liberty of the unvaccinated in Austria. They will have to pay up to €50,000 a year, which most people that would be our am surprise if that's the average salary. In Austria.

Can the Republican Party Restrain the Tech Oligarchy? Blake Masters Tells Us

"Do you think that the Republican Party is there as far as the voters? Let's start there to restrain the corporate oligarchy, especially in the tech space. Yes. The voters are traveling a lot. I speak to a lot of voters. You speak a lot of voters talk about that. Well, I mean, I tell people like, look, I'm a pro market guy, like I have this sort of libertarian classic background. Like I was deep in the Austrian school in college, right? We're into this stuff. We don't want to regulate it. Yeah. I mean, I'm sympathetic. I think it's important to start. And some of it's really interesting. Some of this really interesting. A lot of it's sort of directionally right. And then I think it's the right place to start from and then you inch towards like looking at how is that actually working with prudence? And I tell people like when I invest in a startup, I want it to do well. I don't want to regulate businesses Willy nilly. I don't even mind if a company becomes big. If caterpillar, the tractor company wants to buy another tractor company for 50 billion in merged, like, great. As long as they're not going to Jack up the prices. That's great. But it's especially big tech. And these huge multinationals that control the flow of information. And I'm sorry, but when these companies have left wing politics, they're censoring sitting presidents. They're, I think, engaging in all sort of election interference. When they do that, we have to be able to treat them differently than like a local bakery or local hair salon. Yes. And that's still pearl market. It's precisely because you want markets to be free and open that you need to break some of these companies up. What markets are supposed to serve us? We don't serve market. That's right. Yeah, they're tools for human flourishing. They're not the end. And too much of the Republican Party, of course, is always just focused on GDP. Yeah. And we have to sacrifice ourselves so that we can hit some sort of number on a chart. Right. And the byproduct of that, just I mean, the text base it's so obvious is that you have tech companies that are worth more than ever before that are doing so much damage. And they're largely untouchable. They're basically governments tip of themselves. Step more powerful than most national

"By this stage, Jacqueline to Vega had struck up a relationship with the 17 year old named Bianca Mach, who was more than half his age. Within two weeks of mating, they were living together, and a month later, they got engaged. Jack was a controlling partner. He expected Bianca to cook and clean for him. Forbade her from visiting her friends and didn't like her leaving the apartment. Bianca had taken a job at a bar in Switzerland, which Jack had been supportive of, saying the pay was better than in Austria. On February 15th, 1992, the same day that detectives went to Jack's apartment to arrest him, he surprised Bianca by joining her in Switzerland on an announced. He claimed he was growing tired of all the publicity he received at home. In reality, Jack had learned of his impending arrest after someone liked the news to the press. Soon, he told Bianca that he was being framed, and that I had to flee. The couple drove 650 kilometers from Switzerland to Paris, where they booked a flight to Florida. Bianca had always wanted to visit Miami. Her favorite television show was Miami Vice. So it seemed the ideal location to hide out. The couple rented an apartment in south beach, but struggled to make ends mate. On February 21, 1992, Jack called an Austrian radio station to publicly protest his innocence. He promised to return if he's arrest warrant was with the drone. Jack still had strong support in his homeland, with many members of the public convinced he was buying framed because the police were too inept to catch the real killer. After failing to convince a former girlfriend to provide him with an alibi, Jack started contacting another woman, he had secretly been saying behind Bianca's back in Vienna. He begged her to help him by sending money. Shay didn't have the funds, so she passed along the request to her boss, who was the editor of a magazine called success. He agreed to pay Jack $10,000 in return for an interview from wherever he was hiding. Agreed, and provided instructions for a wire transfer in Miami Beach. On February 27, 1992, Jack had drove to Miami Beach, and Bianca hopped out of the car to collect the money from the wire transfer. As she did so, the couple and their vehicle were suddenly surrounded by U.S. Marshals. Unbeknownst to Jack and his girlfriend in Vienna. The editor of success intensely disliked Jack. After agreeing to pay for an interview, he went straight to the Austrian authorities and told them about the plan. Austrian officials contacted Interpol, who in turn contacted the U.S. Marshals. They organized the stakeout, waiting in an apartment building across the strait for Jack to arrive. When they saw him, they leaped into action. Upon realizing the Marshals were there for him, Jack fled on foot, running through outdoor restaurants and waving through back alleys. But soon the Marshals had him cornered and Jack finally surrendered. He was taken to the Miami metropolitan correctional center, subbing the entire way. Detective Fred Miller and an associate flew to Miami from Los Angeles, the interview him about the three murdered women in their jurisdiction. Shannon actually, rain Rodriguez, and Peggy booth. Whilst there, they took his blood, saliva, and hair samples for DNA analysis. Testing revealed that Jack want to weigh his DNA matched one of the same in samples taken from Shannon xly. With the evidence mounting against him, Jack grew fearful that he would be extradited to California, which had the death penalty. In a lucky break for him, it was against the Austrian law to extradite citizens the jurisdictions with capital punishment. A deal was struck between the USA and Austria that Jack would be tried for the American murders in his home country. He was extradited to graz and arrive on May 28th, 1992, grading the reporters who were waiting at the airport with a wide smile. While Jacqueline de Vega was held in a small jail at the graz criminal courthouse, inspector Ernst, the Gaga and criminal psychologist Fred molla traveled to FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia. They enlisted the help of special agent Greg mccrary to create a signature crime analysis of their killer. It was clear to agent mccrary that all the murders shared the same pattern. The killer drive his victims far out of town, strangled them with their own clothing, left their jury on their bodies, took their identification and dumped them near trees or water, and partly covered them with dirt and leaves. The lack of salmon samples that most crime scenes indicated the killer was impotent and struck out against the women in rage. This was consistent with the statement from a sex worker who said Jack had attacked her after failing to climax. The reason why the murderer chose to use pantyhose in Europe compared with bras in the USA was easily explained. In Europe, sex workers did not commonly wear bras. Instead, they donda leotards and pantyhose undergarments. This murderer was different to other serial killers, though. Instead of attacking in Juan familiar area, he wasn't afraid to kill in different countries. This suggested that he was intelligent, sophisticated and organized. After two weeks of analyzing the data, mccrary was convinced that Juan killa was responsible for all the murders, and that killer was Jack unterweger. Jack unterweger had owned 6 different cars during the year he spent out of prison. And although a search of his most recent vehicle revealed in no evidence tying him to any murders, Austrian officials successfully tracked down the first car he'd bought a BMW. It had long since been sold, and was sitting in a junkyard on touched. Investigators searched the vehicle and found his in the passenger seat. A few belonged to Jack unto Vega. Three longer hairs were also found. Only one still had its root attached. A mitochondrial DNA sample was obtained. It matched murdered czechoslovakian sex workup Blanca Booker with 99.99% accuracy. Additionally, the results of 142 red fibers and 153 black fibers found on the body and clothing of Heidi hammer are bound to be consistent with the Jack's red scarf and a pair of black woolen trousers taken from his wardrobe. Jack unterweger was charged with 11.

"The surveillance, once again. As part of the investigation, authorities began looking into unsolved murders of sex workers in other European countries. They discovered that when Jacqueline had been in Prague for work in September of 1990, four months after he's released from prison, a young woman named Blanca Baku disappeared from the city half that leaving at cafe. Blank his body was discovered the next day in a nearby forest. She was naked and lying face down with a few sticks and twigs, scattered across her body. Blanca had been stabbed once on one of her buttocks and then strangled to death with an unknown ligature, which wasn't at the crime saying. Investigators suspicions that Jack unto Vega was responsible only increased when the landlady of the hotel he'd been staying at reported seeing him in the same city square where Blanca was last seen. Had around the same time that she vanished. Despite the increasing circumstantial evidence against the Jacqueline to Vega. Vienna's district attorney concluded there wasn't enough to warrant an arrest. The district attorney in graz disagreed, and on February 13th, 1992, he successfully petitioned the graz criminal court toward our Jax arrest. Two days later, investigators rushed to Jackson's apartment to apprehend him armed with an arrest warrant. But he wasn't at home. Detectives began rummaging through the residents. It was spotlessly clean, with nothing out of place. However, a search soon uncovered three pairs of handcuffs, a can of Peppa spray, a switchblade knife, and a shotgun. As a convicted felon, Jack was not permitted to own any of these items. Detectives also found a beige leather jacket, similar to the wand described by a witness who had seen Heidi hammer with a short man on the night of her murder. A red scarf seemed similar to the fibers found on Heidi's clothing. Discovered in Jack's library was a collection of books and manuscripts that featured the same unusual words used in prank calls to Rudolf pram. Hades, the atonement, zenith, and references to the figure 8. When investigators eventually learned about the prank calls, they struggled to determine the meaning behind they strange phrases. One possible explanation behind the reference to the figure 8 was that this was the shape or restraint made when tying someone's hands behind their back. Another remark from the coals that puzzled detectives was the killer's claim quote to 11 I have carried out the just punishment. Jack unterweger was suspected of murdering 7 women in Austria and one in Prague throughout the year following his release. Investigate is wondered if there were three more murders they were unaware of. Also found talked amounts to Jack's belongings was a menu for a seafood restaurant in Malibu, California. LAPD detective Fred milla was surprised to receive a long distance call from somewhere as far away as Austria. On the other line, was investigator Ernst, the Geiger, who wanted to know whether any women most likely sex workers had been strangled to death in Los Angeles between June and July of 1991. Detective milla checked. There were three. Shannon actually Irene Rodriguez and Peggy booth. Inspector Ernst Gaga was certain that Jack unterweger was responsible. This explained why the Los Angeles serial killer had abruptly stopped after a two week killing spray. Ernst Gaga traveled to LA to investigate further. If Jack could be tired to those murders, that would make him responsible for the strangulation deaths of 11 women, within one year of his release from prison. Meanwhile, Austrian authorities whited for Jack to return home, so they could arrest him. Unfortunately, for them. Jack had other plans..

"Two months later, in January, 1991, some children playing in a wooded area on the outskirts of the city came across brunhilda's body. She was lying in a shallow brook, naked, face down, and poorly concealed by a few tree branches. Her clothing and purse had been taken, but she was still wearing her jewelry. She had been stabbed once in the buttock and a pace of fabric was not entirely around her neck. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the forensic pathologist could not determine what the fabric was. Then, on March 7, 1991, 35 year old sex worker, Alfredo shrimp, also vanished from graz without a trace. It would be another 7 months before her skeletal remains were found not far from where brunhilda had been dumped. She was faced down and naked, her sod from a pair of red socks. Alfred has cause of death couldn't be determined. But strangulation seemed most likely, given there were no other signs of fatal injury, such as bullet knife or blunt force trauma. Despite their best efforts, investigators in grads hadn't been able to find the person responsible for these crimes. But they noticed they bore striking similarities to another unsolved murder that had been committed to light the previous year. On the other side of the country. 31 year old sex work a highly hammerer had vanished from the Austrian city of break ins on the nod of December 5 1990. She'd been spotted at 9 30 p.m. standing on her regular corner near bragan's train station. A few hours later, a neighbor saw Heidi back at home in her apartment garage. She was with a short man who wore a red scarf and a beige leather jacket. That was the last confirmed sighting of her. Just over three weeks later on New Year's Eve. Two hike is traversing the nearby lust in our marsh found hardy's body. She was lying face down and almost fully clothed with her petticoat shoved down her throat. Her wrists showed restraint marks, but there was no evidence that a sexual assault had taken place. Her pantyhose were tied around her neck in a series of tight and intricate knots. And this time, the killer had left evidence behind. Red and black fibers on Heidi's clothing had likely come from something her silent was wearing. When bodies started turning up throughout the Vienna Woods, investigates in grads, noted how similar the crimes were to their own unsolved cases. The way the victims had been found, and the method of killing was almost identical. When they found out that their colleagues in Vienna had looked into Jack unterweger as a person of interest, they began digging into his whereabouts at the time of each murder. Hours before elfred a shrimp disappeared from grads. Jack unterweger was in the nearby town of khufu for a raiding in a local cafe. Members of the public who had come to hear him enjoyed watching Jack's soulful performance. As the event drew to a close at ten 30 p.m., Jack left cool flaw and headed into graz's red light district. The night that Heidi hammer vanished, a white vehicle with the Vienna number plate W Jack one was spotted driving past the train station she stood near. Another sex worker said she had actually seen Jack unterweger approach Heidi before she went missing. The next day, he recorded a performance of his play dungeon at the Austrian broadcasting corporation studios, just 8 miles south of Heidi's apartment. Gradually, the grotz detectives paced together a timeline proving that each time a sex worker went missing. Jack had been attending a book signing or was working nearby. Although he insisted that he had no contact with sex workers outside of his research, a woman came forward with a different story. She had been picked up by Jack unto Vega on October 17, 1990. Not long after she entered his car. He drove her to some nearby Woods, handcuffed her, then began violently raping her. Frightened, the woman began to cry. This seemed to spur Jack on. When he was unable to ejaculate, he angrily released the woman before driving off. The incident had traumatized the sex worker, leaving her terrified ever since. When Jack learned of this woman's statement, he changed his story. Now he admitted that he had picked up a sex worker once, but it was entirely consensual. The handcuffs were nothing more than a birthday gift from a friend that he had stashed in his car's glove box. And suddenly, Jack claimed that he remembered what he had done on the night that one victim went missing. He'd been with a girlfriend in Vienna. Investigators knew this wasn't true. Jack had been seen by a large number of people at a poetry rating on the night in question. This outright liar convinced Austrian authorities that Jack unterweger could indeed be the murderer they were looking for. He was.

"Around two weeks after the first bodies were found in the Vienna Woods. A reporter from the Austrian broadcasting corporation strolled into police headquarters to speak with chief max Adel Barker. He explained that he had been assigned to cover the newly discovered serial killings because of his personal connection to the crimes. Claiming that he's aunt was a sex worker who had been murdered by a client decades earlier. Chafe Adel Bakr was happy to provide a statement, saying despite a number of aids, so far, we have obtained no positive result. What we are really missing is material evidence. The reporter sympathized with the situation remarking it must be very frustrating for an officer to so to speak, ran into such a dead end. After chafe Adel Barker's shift ended, he returned home and relayed the day's events to his wife. He told her about the journalist who had interviewed him, providing her with the man's name. His wife was surprised. But the chafe didn't know why. He never heard of Jack unterweger before. Jackal was working on multiple paces about the body's found in the Vienna Woods. After Sabina and Karen were discovered, he interviewed sex workers from Vienna's red light district for an article. One woman voiced her fear that they killer had gotten away with it, stating, what can they do now? It's already too late to catch him. They should have taken the missing persons reports more seriously. A tone of dismay permeated a Jack on to Vegas finished article. Quote. The dead in Vienna Woods are another argument for why society should do more to provide security for prostitutes. The more securely integrated a prostitute is in society, the more she can work in safety with less chance of falling victim to a crime. One individual following the coverage of the sex workers slayings with interest was foment detective Al goose Shanna. Although he'd long since retired from the police, Shanna had been fascinated by the news about the women found in the Vienna Woods. They reminded him of a case that he'd never been able to set aside. The murder of marica Harvard in Salzburg in 1973. When Jack unterweger was charged with killing Margaret shafi sometime later, August shenna became convinced he had murdered marika as well. He'd never had enough evidence to charge him, but took some comfort in his suspect receiving a life sentence. Now, almost two decades later, Jack was a fray man and women were being killed again. August Shanna was certain he was responsible. He passed on a message to the police, which eventually raged chafer max eidl Barker. Chafe Adel Barker thought the tip sounded highly unlikely. But as he had no other credible suspect, he decided to put Jacqueline to Vega under surveillance, just in case. Jack led a somewhat lavish lifestyle. He often dawned at cafes and restaurants with high profile people. The rest of the time, he holed up in his high end apartment and worked on his riding. The more chief adolph are observed, the less he believed such a man could be his murderer. On June 10, 1991, Jack went to Vega paid another visit to chief adult Barker's office to tell him he was going to Los Angeles for 5 weeks to write about crime, the sex work industry and law enforcement. He asked if the chief had any connections in the LAPD who could help him. Chafe Adel Barker did not tell Jack that he was being looked at as a person of interest in the Vienna Woods crimes. Because he didn't consider Jack a likely suspect. He had no problem with him traveling to the USA. Jack unterweger thoroughly enjoyed his time in Los Angeles. The morning after Shannon actually was killed, he went sightseeing, and unsuccessfully tried to track down various celebrities to interview, including Cher and the Zsa Zsa Gabor. He got amongst at the gay and lesbian pride parade and a few days after Irene Rodriguez was killed. He saw the sights of Santa Monica. Early one morning, Jack left his room at the Cecil Hotel and strolled the 5 minute walk to the LAPD central community police station. Flashing his ID, he explained what he was doing in the city. When he was offered the chance to go on a ride along with a local patrol officer. Jack left at the opportunity. The patrol officer found the small Austrian man quirky, but friendly enough. He was extremely interested in Los Angeles law enforcement and constantly asked questions as he snapped photos out of their car window. A few days later, Jack returned to the police station and flirted with the female patrol officers, taking pictures of them. Soon after, the third American sex worker, Peggy booth, was murdered. Upon his return to Austria, Jack unterweger met with the chief Adel Parker to discuss what he'd learned about sex work and crime in Los Angeles. As they chatted, chief Adel Barker had admitted to Jack that he was a person of interest in the Vienna Woods murders. Jack wasn't surprised. Commenting that he's background made him an obvious target. While reassuring that chafe that he was in no way responsible. Nevertheless, chae fatal Barker asked Jack to provide alibis for the night that the murdered women had disappeared. He agreed and promised to do so within two weeks. But soon enough, she fatal Barker received a statement from Jack unterweger, saying he couldn't give any alibis for the night in question. As he couldn't remember what he was doing. Meanwhile, almost 200 kilometers south in the Austrian city of graz. Detectives began to suspect that two unsolved murders they were investigating were linked to the Vienna Woods crimes. On the night of October 26th, 1990, brunhilda masa was standing on her regular corner in graz's red light district. As the nearby clock tower, illuminated the time of 1215 a.m. a taxi driver who knew brunhild are pulled over to ask why she was out so late. Brunhilde explained that she was hoping for one last customer before heading home. She planned to take her children on a team in the morning and wanted a bit more spending money for them. The taxi driver bid brunhilda farewell, then continued on his way. Brunhilda never made it home that night..

"The Jack's early release. He's editor recalled a reading Jack gave instantane prison stating that he's raiding. He was so tender. And at that moment, we decided we had to get him pardoned. But Austrian president Rudolph kersh lager refused to sign off on Jack's release. Pointing out that he was legally required to serve at least 15 years of his life sentence. In 1988, Jack's autobiography was adapted into a film. Hey, collaborated with its director. But differences in autistic vision became evident when Jack continually requested to be portrayed as a hero. The director disagreed, unable to look past the Jack's conviction for murder. He believed Jack had a massive Vega and only used his riding as a means to escape prison. Played at telling British newspaper, The Guardian. Jack doesn't like literature. Jack doesn't like riders. Jack doesn't like anything. Jack only locks Jack. Nevertheless, the film was released to positive reviews, and as the movie gained popularity and Jack's book was taught in Austrian high schools. Support for his release only increased. On May 23, 1990, 39 year old Jack unterweger left prison as a free man. Having served his minimum term of 15 years. His release was due in pa to the campaigning of psychiatrist, doctor Ernest the Bournemouth, who never met Jack, but had read his autobiography. Doctor Bournemouth wrote a letter to the justice minister, which read in part. The man committed a serious act his remorseful, understands the motive of his actions at the time, and has the mains never to have a relapse. I am convinced that this act will never be committed again. Upon Jack's release, one prison warden said we will never find a prisoner so well prepared for freedom. A psychologist at Stein prison, who was straight out of university, had an hour long conversation with the Jack, and wrote that he was now fit for society. Having worked on his problems with intellectual Riga. Jack unterweger was welcomed back into the community with open arms. "After the murder of Irene Rodriguez, a deputy sheriff who drives to a deserted Malibu hilltop in response to a frantic coal received by the LA county sheriff's department. As described in John Lake's book entering Hades, the deputy was met at the same by a group of men and their children. They'd headed there to view a solar eclipse that was set to black out the Los Angeles skyline by mid morning. Instead, they had stumbled across the body of a dead woman. She was lying on her back with her shirt up around her shoulders, for exposing her breasts. Otherwise, she was fully clothed. Her fingerprints identified her as Peggy booth. Her sex worker, who worked on Hollywood's sunset boulevard, approximately 7 miles from where Shannon and Irene were picked up. Detectives assumed Peggy must have known her murderer well, as the desolate location where she was found, was not a place she would usually frequent. Just a lot Shannon and Darin, Peggy had been strangled to death with her own bra. While the murder of sex workers in Los Angeles was tragically not a rare occurrence. This identical manner of killing was. Doctor Lynn Harold from the LA county sheriff's department analyzed the leakages. In the hundreds of strangulation murders, doctor herold had seen over the course of her career. These three were the only ones she had come across where a victim had been strangled by their own undergarments. The fact that the victim's bras had all been dismantled and tied together in the exact same way. Left her in no doubt that the same person was responsible for all three murders. Detectives began surveilling dantian horns where sex workers were known to operate. In case the killer struck again. But he never did. On July 16th, 1991, the journalist who had reported on the slayings in Los Angeles, boarded a flight back to his home country. He'd gathered ample material for his work, comparing the differences between sex work in LA and Europe. And intended to broadcast these findings in a radio series for the Austrian broadcasting corporation. He also planned to write several articles on the same topic. It was a busy time for the journalist. In addition to his investigative date dive, he also had a book to promote with public signings. In his homeland, the journalist was a beloved public figure, with thousands of fans who adored his empathetic writing style. He considered himself a ladies man and picked up women effortlessly. Even having a whirlwind romance with one of the Cecil hotels receptionists. She hoped to visit him in Austria soon. The journalist was Jack junta Vega. Jack unter Vega's prison sentence for the murder of Margaret shaha, who he had abducted and strangled to death in 1974. Coincided with the period of reform in Austria's pain or system. The nation's minister for justice implemented a program based on the theory that even the most violent criminals could be successfully rehabilitated whilst incarcerated. One prisoner who took advantage of the new opportunities offered, was Jack unto Vega. He became a regular at the prison library, teaching himself to read and rod. Over time, he discovered that he had a natural talent for the written word. He began writing plays, poetry, and short stories for children. While he remained behind bars, he's short stories were broadcast over the radio to the delight of many parents and children who tuned in. In 1983, 8 years into his sentence, Jack unterweger completed his autobiography and titled it, which translates to purgatory in English. Jack told of his tragic childhood and the despair of prison life. Neglecting to mention why he was imprisoned. The book was published to light it that year and became a bestseller. People felt connected to Jack, and his compassionate descriptions of life behind bars. He seemed to relatable genuine and the sensitive. But police inspector, Al ghost Shanna hadn't forgotten about maraka Harvard, the woman who drowned in Salzburg Lake. He remained convinced that Jack on to Vega was responsible and arranged to interview him in prison. A girlfriend of Jack had written a statement placing them in Salzburg on the night of maric's murder. She recalled that Jack had left without explanation for a period of the night. And also remember Jack keeping newspaper clippings about the murder. When she pressed him for information about the clippings, he threw them away. When August shenna confronted Jack with this information in prison, he burst into tears and told the investigator that if this line of questioning continued, he would return to his cell and hang himself. Undeterred, inspector shenan appealed to the district attorney to prosecute Jack for America's murder. As per Austrian law, Jack could only serve one life sentence. But if he was found guilty of killing maricar, time would be added to his current term. The district attorney declined to proceed with the case, telling inspector shenna. He already has a life sentence. He can only be given one. It was suggested that his decision was influenced by the strong links Jack had to prominent Austrians, who wholeheartedly enjoyed his body of work. Although inspector shenna was outraged, he had nowhere else to turn. It wasn't long before figure foyer caught the attention of Austria's literary elite. They praised the autobiography, describing it as the ultimate example of the power the yachts had to transform lives. Those responsible for the country's prison reform held up at Jack unterweger as their greatest success story. In 1984, Jack received an award for his work, a stage production titled terminal prison. He was permitted day release to attend the opening night performance, and arrived to a throng of photographers clamoring to take his picture. In 1995, Austria's literary community began to petition.

"But it remained firmly in the mind of investigating officer, August Shanna. Although he couldn't find the man responsible. Al ghost was certain of one thing, whoever killed marika was a sadistic monster. When he later learned about the murder of Margaret shafi in Germany, Al ghost was struck by the similarities her case brought to that of marica rosat. He sat in on Jack unto Vega's trial, taking in every detail. The more he heard, the more certain he was that Jack was the man he'd been looking for. But he didn't have enough evidence to charge him. As Jack sentence was read aloud to the court. Took comfort in the fact that at least a Jack was now facing life behind bars. On June 19, 1991, 15 years after Jack unto Vega went to prison, 20 year old Shannon X Lee stood on the corner of 7th and Maine in downtown Los Angeles. Behind her, the sun fed the Cecil Hotel was broughtly illuminated in the night sky. Shannon had been working in the sex industry since she had run away from home at the age of 16. She used her earnings to support her drug habit, but earlier that night she'd called her father, telling him she was going to get her life back on track and was looking forward to a broader future. Just after midnight, a car pulled up alongside her. Shannon hopped in. The next morning, a group of girls were picking up trash behind the parking lot of the girls scout center two and a half miles from where Shannon had been standing the night before. As they worked, the girls noticed something lying in a vacant overgrown lot, approximately 50 feet beyond the car park. They drew closer to get a better look. It was the body of a murdered woman. Shannen actually was lying on her stomach underneath the tall eucalyptus tree. She was naked, except for a T-shirt that had ridden up around her shoulders and a pair of bright blue socks. I ran her neck was her bra, tied tight in a series of unique and complex knots. Whoever had attacked Shannon had used her bra to strangle her. Cots and scrapes on her fate indicated she'd been dragged through the vacant lot, then dumped. Semen from a number of different men was extracted from Shannon's body. Non matched a DNA profiles of anyone on record. The murder had been carried out in a clean meticulous fashion, and there was no evidence left at the same. Detectives concluded that the killer must have planned the slang, skyping out the area in daylight, as it was not a sight clearly visible at night. It was a puzzling location. Detectives knew that the city's sex workers rarely traveled more than a block or two from where they were picked up. The distance from Shannon's last known location suggested she had not gone to the lot willingly. Ten days later, a homeless man was looking for firewood, one and a half miles from where Shannon actually was found. As he searched around the parking lot of a freight company, he noticed something beneath a big rig trailer. It was the body of a woman lying on her back and naked aside from a T-shirt and one saw. She had been hit in the abdomen, so forcefully that it caused internal damage. But the cause of her death was ligature strangulation. The woman's iron bra was knotted tightly around her neck. Her name was Irene Rodriguez, and she was 33 years old. Irene had been in Los Angeles for less than three months, performing sex work to support a heroin addiction. She left behind a husband and four children. Irene had worked on the same corner as Shannon, just down the road from the Cecil Hotel. Just as in Shannon's murder, her killer left no evidence, and a forensic examination resulted in zero leads. Detectives suspected Iran's attacker may have been a trucker from out.

"Jack ray appeared and grabbed a steel rod from the glove box. Then dragged Margaret from the car. He asked Barbara if she'd like to accompany him. She declined, but watched as Jack could drag the naked Margaret across the snow covered ground. They disappeared into a thicket of nearby trees. In a statement, Barbara leda told detectives I was terribly afraid for her, but also for myself. About 15 minutes later, he came back to the car, and after he sat in the driver's seat, he handed me the steel rod, which was covered with blood and hair. What did you do with her? I asked him. He replied. There's no way she can betray us now. While there was no physical evidence from the crime scene linking Jack to the murder, his girlfriend Barbara's confession was enough to warrant action. On January 17, 1975, just a month after Margaret's murder, Jack unto Vega was arrested and charged. Due to a trading between Germany and Austria, and Jack, an Austrian citizen would be tried in his homeland, despite killing Margaret in Germany. It is unclear whether he's girlfriend Bob Ross faced any legal ramifications for her actions on the night of Margaret's murder. In July, 1975, while still waiting for Margaret shaffer's murder trial to begin. Jack unto Vega was tried for violent offenses against four other women in Austria. He was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. One year into his sentence, the murder trial finally commenced. In court, Jack wore a dark suit with a gaudy tie. While his long Shaggy hair fell around his face. Short, slim and baby faced with delicate features and small, wide eyes. Jack unter Vega didn't look like a stereotypical criminal. The prosecution instructed those present to look beyond his appearance, as they heard the evidence against him. The trial drew a large crowd. They listened attentively as Jack's defense team spoke of his troubled childhood. He was born in 1950 in the historic Austrian town of udan Borg. His mother was a waitress and sex worker. Jack's father, who he never met, was an American soldier. He'd been part of a group of U.S. troops occupying the area following the end of World War II. When Jack was about 18 months old, his mother was jailed for fraud, and he was sent to live with his grandfather in a desolate rundown cottage in the Austrian countryside. It was during this time that Jack struggled the most. His grandfather was a violent alcoholic, who beat Jack for misbehaving. Jack often claimed that he was forced to sleep in the same bed as his grandfather, while the elderly man had sex with various girlfriends and sex workers. However, this was likely not true. With many of Jack's stories about his childhood being embellished and exaggerated for sympathy. Ever since his arrest, Jack unterweger had denied murdering Margaret shaffer. But on the stand, he suddenly broke down. He admitted to baiting Margaret and then strangling her with her own bra. When he looked into her face, he saw his mother's, which caused him to explode with rage and hatred. Jack sobbed and pleaded for forgiveness. Instead of being forgiven, he was found guilty and given a life sentence to be served in prison at maximum security facility in krems, Austria. Police inspector, Al ghost Shanna, sat in the courtroom, listening to Jacqueline to Vegas sentencing with interest. The murder of Margaret shafa, bore strong similarities to a case that had landed on his desk three years earlier. On April 1, 1973, the body of a petite woman with long black hair was found floating in a Lake in Salzburg. Aged in her mid 20s, she wore a turtleneck jumper and was naked from the Weiss to down. The woman's ankles had been tied together tightly with her stockings, and her wrists bound expertly behind her back with a necktie. A bandage, likely taken from a car's first day kid, was wrapped multiple times around her head and mouth, acting as a makeshift gag. She had been violently beaten across the face, but the cause of her death was drowning. An autopsy revealed the woman had sexual intercourse just prior to her murder, but it could not be determined if she had been raped, or if it was consensual. When tire marks were discovered leading to the light shoreline from the surrounding Woodland, a horrifying picture began to emerge. The woman had been undressed, restrained and gagged, then dragged from a car to the Lake and thrown in while still alive. The following morning, a man named mato havard, reported his wife missing. Marica or vat had failed to return home after catching a bus into Salzburg two nights prior. Mato was taken to see the body of the woman recovered from the Lake, and was devastated to find that she was his wife, marikar. At the time, Austria had one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world, and murders were virtually unheard of. Catching maric's killer was of the utmost importance, so the country's top detectives were assigned to the case and now expenses were spared. Despite this, a lack of blades and physical evidence had authorities coming up empty. Over time, the investigation dwindled, and the murder gradually faded from public attention..

Mark Levin Calls out New York Times' Paul Krugman

"There was a piece in the, uh, New York Times by Paul. I don't know if it's Krugman a Krugman He's supposed to be the best. The The radical left has as an economist. But of course, he's pathetic. We've been trying to get in touch with this man. For how many days Mr. Pitt is here. Since Saturday. We've emailed. We've tried to contact and we've heard nothing. I put out a public challenge to him to debate me about my book. We've heard nothing. And I want to put out that public challenge again to, uh Mr Dr Krugman or Krugman to come on the show. 30 minutes, maybe an hour. Let's debate the substance in my book, the substance of the book. Cause you're a gutless coward. You're a fraud. I'm calling you out. And my time with a little munchkins. I'm calling you out. Tough guy, Big guy, right? And he twists and turns Frederick Kayak and so forth, and and I want to get into this with him. Starts as paragraph remember Austrian economics in the aftermath of the 28 financial crisis. Number of conservatives rejected Cain's economic prescriptions and claimed instead to be devotees of the Austrian school, especially Frederick Hayek. Question about how many of these sub proclaimed Austrians actually knew what they were endorsing in general, when right wingers talk about intellectual history. You want to fire up your fact checking For example, Mark Levin of Fox News has a best selling book, claiming not just that the current American left is in the thrall of European Marxists. But more specifically that their followers or Herbert Marcus and the Frankfurt school except that he keeps calling it the Franklin School, and that's where you lose it.

The Fall of France in 1940

"Doing the right thing goes against common sense. It might involve personal sacrifice or missing out on an opportunity to earn a living. It might even put us endanger. The right thing is rarely the safest path forward but it often represents the best odds in september of nineteen fourteen. The people of france found themselves in a desperate position. The soldiers and war machines of germany were marching closer and closer to paris. It wasn't as if they hadn't tried to stop them. No that's what they've been doing for weeks. The war had sprung like a leak from a seemingly tiny hole with the assassination of austrian archduke. France ferdinand that was june twenty eighth of nineteen fourteen by august. First germany had declared war on russia two days later they set their sights on france as well. They had lost territory to france in the aftermath of the franco prussian. War of eighteen. Seventy one and they wanted it back in late august. On their way to francis northern border germany pushed through belgium. The small nation was quickly captured by august twentieth. It was in full occupation. All of a sudden the enemy had possession of territory right on the border and they showed no signs of stopping germany's forces were like a tidal wave of bullets and blood and it seemed very likely that france would indeed be invaded but again they tried to stop it. British soldiers came to help but the battle of months did not go as well as they had hoped for sending france and her allies into a quick retreat that was august twenty third. You have to stop and think about what it must have felt like. For the people of france and specifically those in the capital city of paris a foreign power had declared war on them and was now barreling toward them like a juggernaut in fact nothing had stopped germany at all and it would have been easy to feel hopeless in the face of that approaching danger in fact britain's foreign secretary at the time sir. The Real Inglorious Basterds: Operation Greenup

"Operation green up an operation carried out by a special group of men many of called the real life. Inglorious bastards a reference to the two thousand nine quentin tarantino film in which group. Us jewish soldiers plot to assassinate high up nazi leaders operation. Green up. wasn't exactly like the hollywood blockbuster known was catching nazis and carbon swastikas of their foreheads. Hitler doesn't get submachine gun down burning theater that also gets blown up. Gotta love tarantino's over the top devos's otheir was no assassination plan but a lot of daring cinematic. Incredibly courageous moments did go down. There was a cast of characters that feel more like hollywood creations in real people. Sometimes it was an amazing high risk high stakes operation that did truly involves jewish men risking their lives parachuting in behind enemy lines to quote. Kill some nazis. They may not have been pulling off executions in the woods but they did help give the allies valuable intel that saved a whole bunch of lives short version of their story. "And it was just a great battle. In the way that george was defending. I was just so so impressed by every time alonso. It took him a good sort of six seven laps to get that move done because every time he regains term for george just places kyd just the right spot. The lonzo would have to sort of be on the outside issue of the corner but he couldn't get the cutback so it was such good defending and just to one for battle that we all enjoy. I ask fernando about. How did you enjoy that. And this big smile came over his face and he laughed a little bit and he said yeah it was great and just said he said i was a bit side. Sort of seeing georgia's economic gonna take away this point but now he said he just loved the battle and it was it was very fair and very very good. And in the end yeah. It was a five-second gap. I think the alonso pulled russell's enjoys it after the race that we were always going to get past. But he was sort of pleased that he could hold his own against fernando and he said that he's not had many wheel-to-wheel battles in f one because that williams has been sorry. But it's not been very good but today he was absolutely abbas elbows out get stuck in against two time champion one of the great strivers to ever grace or sport and absolutely how zone so yeah a phenomenal display by george again. I really hope this isn't a one off. I highly doubt it will be because again. It's just stake in this claim for williams can get into the points and this year and george deserves. Take them there and yeah again. Twenty twenty two mercedes the timing of it. It's it's just it is. The momentum is building and i think that the only thing that can stop mercedes i think puts georgian. Car is if they're too worried about destabilizing things. And if they're so confident that the baht asan howard's important ship is way way to go forward because on outright pace right now george jemaine. Yeah he's got to be in that car because he's just performing socio well and yeah. He's thrilled dale. And i think today prove that again if we needed any anymore confirmation but that leads very nicely into what i wanted to discuss next. We are running out of time so have to get through the other drivers. But i do want to elicit more about mercedes and about hamilton's contract because we didn't have a chance to run through it yesterday in the project cost and i promise listeners that we would discuss it today. So we're gonna do exactly that louis. How much signed extended his contract for another two years. What are your thoughts on that and following on from what you've just said. What do you think is going to be the most likely decision by mercedes. Tom's about second. See you've said we'll everyone is already suspecting it's either going to be let's not disrupt the peace or yes. We need the best passan who we think might have the most potential going forward. I e george in that second see. What do you think is going to be embroiled. You think it will swing that way jess. Yeah it's a it's an interesting one isn't it. I mean. I think i think festival i think is is great news that lewis hamilton signed on front of the two years. I think the year contract this year had a few people myself included. If i'm honest a little worried about whether he was feeding out other options or just wanting to know what the twenty twenty two package was gonna look like is is very unlike louis. Sign a one year contract which is why they were these question marks but obviously not to worry he signed up on front of the two years and i think we we want the best drivers in the best. 'cause there's absolutely no question that those hamilton as one if not the best driver on on the grid so i i think first and foremost. That's that's great news. It's only going to be so long that george russell will remain patient. He doesn't really have that many other choices. But you know he might. Do you know you could have a red bull. Cumnock airing all somebody wanting to give him an opportunity to get further up. And he's currently writing in a williams so that's going to be on mercedes mind. I know it's it's a it's a massive problem for taito wolf right now like he's got this young driver who wants wins and he was very open in saying that's what he wants. Not that anybody else who doesn't say that doesn't want to but like he's very vocal in where he wants to be where he wants his career to go. He's very driven and ambitious in that. In that respect that you're right like those. Those hamilton is very happy. Having vowed three batas teammate as the team up until this season they've clinched the constructors championship and they've taken the driver's championship. Herman it's been very comfortable may be considered a rosbach situation. I mean obviously is a completely different scenario. They're two completely different points in that career. Roseburg hamels hamilton. Very much at the same points in their career in terms of lonely. Might have left or that that you know that grew up together and cost it together and this. This is a completely different scenario. But i think you have to. You do have to look to the future. And if lewis hamilton is staying on front of the two years and they have russell in the back pocket who is chomping at the bit to get into some really competitive machinery. You're going to have to think like well. How long can we put this off for so deny it might be that. They signed on bought for another year. Because i mean that's the longest contract that he gets anyway. They want on him on for another year. Get twenty twenty two under their belt where everything's different and they don't want everything to change and then sign on george russell afterwards. When lewis is we don't know what lewis has plans are going to be off that. I do hope that there's more to come. But we don't know what that's going to look like but yeah i think if i was mercedes that's probably what i would look to potentially do but again like botox is not in wary should be in the championship. And that's that's a problem that is that is an issue so yeah i don't know i'm interested to know what luke would do if he was totally wolfe is so difficult and i think i'm going to stole a little bit by talking about louis contracts. Because i i would echo that entirely. It's one of the sport. I think it's so important. He's such ambassador and yeah it was good that there was none of this dragged out saga that we saw last year and we spied slow samson on saturday we got some unexpected media time with him because normally he won't talk to us after qualifying because he's in the press conference because he always qualifies. It's up three both. it was fourth. We got this session with him. And it wasn't about qualifying all but he was on excellent form and very open about his sort of feature and his plans and stuff and he actually. I asked him about and said so of like in terms of the time scanners whitey years and he said actually he wanted a two year deal to begin with before they went into the covert year. And everything like that and it got to the point where he was just like this. Get this done. A year added on and tyson said it was very much copy paste contracts from what they've got for this season just covering two years. He said it was a good sort of period. Three years felt like too long for both of them. One year would be too short and put them in this exact same situation again next year and yet lewis. I mean he's very. He's very comfortable and again i think the longer he remains an f. One is not really dependent on the success of. Is it going to be an site. So theoretically could be a ten time champion by the time. His next contract is up and it's about everything he.

"But they haven't been there for a really long time but lando norris is just. He's an absolute joy to watch. He's an absolute joy. Swatch i just. He's so exciting. He's a great personality as is just easiest everything everything that's good about formula one and my word like if he can do this in a mclaren what day. That's i guess that's the that's the really exciting thing. And it was kind of like those that moment when george russell came up to him in the tv pen and kinda gave him a high five and said oh why sweaty in london only champagne mate. Like as if like george wouldn't know georgia's forgotten what champagne feels like. But i mean is one of those moments where you're kind of like these these two guys all the future of a formula one and that's massively massively exciting that they're already like landers already putting in the performances that putting in he is my like again like a ball the eventual winners. Who are like max it. Max is doing such a phenomenal job but land landa nor his consistency is just so special so special the performances. That is pulling out. Like i mean i really hope it continues into the rest of the season and he keeps shocking as and keep surprising as with his consistency and his speed on his ability and his rice kroft. Everything is coming together. And i think that's just that really exciting prospect of like. What's he gonna do next if he keeps putting these performances out the bag like was he going to do next every weekend having pretty much the same conversation about him every weekend he is out doing himself so we have to have the conversation again. Because it's just so impressive to see so yes of you. People that may not be as impressed with lonzo. we apologize. But it's you know it's all deserved so we have to the credit where it's due. Let's his teammates. daniel ricardo. What did you make of his day to day oversee. He has had a rough day yesterday. Rough weekend staring gorham pre but it ended actually back to the. I'm sure he would have expected after his qualifying situation yesterday. What did you make of daniel's recovery. Today in the first austria rice. I think we didn't really see what he could have done. Because the engine glitch. I think actually belied what was actually very good race day for for ricardo and i'll see qualifying again to be that far from to drop out in key to as he did again was a bit difficult and baked gut wrenching mclaren. Like ferrari. I'm sure we're going to get to they. They commit to that medium star strategy. Because if you're on soft they thought you're going to be in trouble. Which as we saw with the guitarist and the aston martins was entirely the case so that was good. Mclaren's subsidy gardens and didn't go away from that strategy. Just because dan you didn't have the pace quite to get into key to without sorry key three without using the soft so but then in the racy i thought it was good. See ricardo sort of. Yeah a bit punchy. Amateurs quite nice foot is defense from the clerk in the closing stages especially is very very good. I think he was a bit powerless to stop science from getting past. But yes it's a pretty decent recovery drive. And obviously i think we're always gonna be comparing him so orlando is doing particularly as year ricardo's meant to be the sort of while champion material and seventeen grand prix winner and extra bull driver with that. But i think that we're seeing good progress from god. I think he is sort of. He's having races way. He qualifies down the order and is certainly might there and just stays there. He is able to fight his way back up. So that's really encouraging saying. I think that yeah once. He's able to get his qualifying together a bit more than i think he'll be in much better shape then yeah he can be there with like we saw in france a couple of weeks ago so so yeah so i think a good recovery should he become away from the weekend with with more points yeah but ultimately all things considered from thirty seven. I think it's a it's what he needed to do. So i think fat life about andrea seidel said that pretty convinced that they know what the issue that's bugging. Ricardo is so. Let's hope for better saturdays for car because we saw today just what. A racer is absolutely a both of the starts. The initial star and the safety car restart from him. Were mega and i think that's again. We we keep touching this on the diner. Ricardo we nar daniel ricardo. We know is in the which is just like i think belittling to diner because we don't know all we're not one hundred percent sure of the challenges that he is facing trying to get used to this new call or whatever this nickeled that they found they need to fix is and i think that's a bit. Yeah it's a bit belittling daniel. But let's hope that they do know what it is. That's the can fix it and we're seeing him up that and doing kind of similar to what longer is during if if that mclaren really is as as competitive as it is showing to be with two very exciting racing drivers behind the wheel so yeah. Let's hope this hype the andrea is right and we can we get we get better. Bet the socks day days. Because he's welcome sundays. So yeah let's let's let's hope for better in future races. You just touched on ferrari. Let's ton to them now. Of course yesterday qualifying neither the mehta in key three because they wanted to keep those medium compounds and ultimately they won they won quite quick enough to make it through but today was a better outcome and this is what they had said. They were expecting as while they were more confident in that race pace for today. But how did you write that. Drives by shaw on calls see. Carlos had a tough time. Starting on those are odds but ultimately he mentioned come home with a good result was really good drive by science and he he struggled the star in the opening stages because the hawes sickly. When the cause around. You're either all social mediums. Always going to struggle just to get into the temperature and gaps pace that bit quicker but similar to last week. He just trusted trusted the rice..

"Today he was so so close to paul and there was a second there when he went poppel in that fast sector where it looked like actually maybe could even grab po. of course. it didn't happen like that but nonetheless. Incredible performance where did that come from and talks about how you think things might shape up tomorrow when it comes to the rice. Because that of course is where the points off in qualifying. He was one of the people in that final key. Three one that really that really go. Everything didn't seem to have any particular problems with the slight changing in temperature. And yeah what was really hyped up. The sort of the the expectations in terms of what he was going to do the fact that he's at who's was going slower so it's hanging something's going on here. There is there is a bit of a chance for stop and is is vulnerable. But i think the rebel which is not a little bit better at keeping its tires alive for the last couple of corners. Because that's really where norris just lease fraction of time and he had a little bit understood at the final corner and ends up second and still nevertheless fantastic absolutely fantastic lap. And great to see you know mclaren buckling back on the front birth was spotted somewhere. Someone said that's the last time mclaren did that was two thousand twelve brazilian grand prix. Which of course it went on to win. I mean there was. There was a lot of different elements in that race. That potentially yet tomorrow. I don't i don't think mc nurse will end up on the podium if it's a straightforward race. I think that peres will certainly have much better race pace behind him as the team mercedes. 'cause it was interesting from northeast. There you know he. He thought he basically saying exactly the same thing he even. Joe j. o. B. of a p five in the press conference and then he sort of he was like you know. I don't want to be too negative because he talks about being realistic. And saying and i sadly we know who really fighting in the towers the ferraris whoever in in the midfield behind but i think can usa. Which is you know. I do want to be optimistic. And if there is a chance for me to fight max maybe he was hinting at time one early in the race. You know and things are close. He's definitely going to go for it. So you got a good to keep his wits about him Star and he has. He's hot dance starts rebelling before as a couple of years ago and he chased down charles leclair late in the race. There was a you made it. Pretty poor start there. Say yeah. Noise sounds the chance to star in the early stages. But i think particularly with the with the softer tyres this weekend. He's gonna. He's gonna slate backwards. He also did an excellent job though to get through key to on the mediums. So yeah yeah. I think he's trying to be realistic. Still you know that won't take anything away from a brilliant job. He's done today and if he doesn't up people i've now is in effect a victory for mclaren in terms of the way the sort of the unofficial class system works in f on these days. Absolutely i saw him in the paddock after the session and he looked pretty pleased with himself. Completely understand the and rightly so because he just moving from strength to strength but before we move onto mercedes. Can we just briefly touch on daniel riccardi because it's really just a completely different story for him. Why is done you struggling so much because we can see that the call clearly has the potential because landau is able to put it at the top of the timesheets so why is new struggling so much extract that performance is he really shocking gateshead around a funny one ricardo and he's not particularly pleasant one either because he's such a great driver he really is all to see such a big gap and this really underwhelming results that he's getting an east. It's just so strange to see this sort of continuing just just underperformance really an issue. Where because he says he's made progress and he you know he feels that he's doing things better than he was at the start of the season when we know he wasn't comfortable in the car. He wasn't confident in it. Because it's not translating into that time and to a certain extent understandable because it's a short track so the gaps between the cars are very very small. The slightest gab is exaggerated in a way so yeah if he's not quite on nurses level than ease going to end up actually. Quite far from him be i still think thirteenth place. They put him out on the mediums in key to your you have the confidence. They wouldn't have bothered trying to do that. Because you're critical race. Tire had they. How do you not felt he could do. Things just didn't seem to come his way. And yeah so. It just doesn't really have an explanation as the certainly the massive gap norris today. But yeah i mean. You'd hope that you know if you can get you know. Get us over. Get away from the rebel ring. Things haven't quite been going his way. And that's it's going to be a real test of that progress and hopefully for for ricardo will actually translate into results for him. Yeah i mean. I really hope so because it must be so frustrating as a driver when you actually put your finger on exactly and where exactly you're losing out. It sirri tough one but let's see how things pan out for him tomorrow and looking forward to so as well but let's talk about mercedes now as you mentioned the.

"I'm your host anna bravo and this is the autism. Podcast is once again at the red during the austrian grand prix and today we saw much the safran versus in one setting a one minute. Five point one four three while at mercedes topped the timesheets an f. b. two with lewis hamilton fastest with a one minute. Four point five to three in efi wanted. the ferrari. Drivers suffered a couple of lockups if it wound up p to mp3 shot a class acting a one minute. Five point four zero nine on the soft tires which put him just over two and a half tenths behind the sapin and just two hundred ahead of his teammate call signs the ferrari drivers wound up down the pat in f. b. to carlos thirteen and xiao sixteenth while aston martin's shot up the time she's winding up p. four and p. five for parts of the sessions we also saw the teams running the prototype. Taya compounded perennials board to be tested this weekend which features a stiffer rear side wool and one. We have special appearances from callum driving without for mayor. We're gonna sanni with williams and one joe for alpine now. John is with major at the neighbor. What might sport dot coms editor as always ready to dig into what we saw on track today. John how are you just saying how shouted we are the end of this trip. Had and i think that's pretty accurate description for the current mood is one of the guys. Can you have one thing. So it's the first tripleheader we've done. Since last year we'll see start started loss with triple headers I think it's taken everybody out. She just sends everyone's a bit tired and I think having not such a spectacular grand prix in the hasn't helped and also i think we've had the double header is. The second round of the races was last year. You have the first to you and then you go somewhere fresh for the third one which is a bit of the same thing you hit. Maximum tiredness on the same venue that delivered a boring race last weekend. So hopefully it all blows up in a ton of excitement tomorrow and sunday and we can power through To get some sleep next week. Yeah that's actually a really good point. Because i hadn't thought of that but i think the same venue for the to end ones does actually make a difference and also obviously law somewhere in australia. Stop season we're raring to go. But now we're tired. We all tied. But of course we hit. Keep you entertained and we're going to give it the same effort that we always do to dig in to everything that happened so the time she's today looking very similar to us you in terms of red bull and mercedes we saw last weekend. How strong red bull but mercedes were clearly looking looking. Better topping the timesheets f. b. two. It's only friday so we're going to be cautious but is this. Potentially a sign of a step forward for the team or fingers. I think is a step forward. I mean by lewis and veltri said tonight that the car feels better so they've made some progress in amongst the saudi more comfortable setup and they feel more on top of the tires and they did last weekend. but i don't think it's the revolutionary step that suddenly lifted them above and beyond ripple. And i think the mercedes potentially looks more comfortable in the software Maximum i think didn't produce his best lap on the soft as well so we didn't potentially see what he could do On that tire. I'm we also know that the influence of engine settings on saturday and sunday. So you which what levels were mercedes and rebel running today. How much will that change tomorrow. So they think anyone's mercedes especially on on predicting that they've got enough to overhaul Red bull for this one As early as tomorrow but it looks closer And i think we've got. There is potential for some excitement. We've got gone soft on the tar compounds. It shouldn't be automatic boring. One stop so they probably will need to go on the to and if the soft is quicker than the medium this weekend enough then it will force the top ten to to run. The soften cutie was well which will put on the back found sunday which went spice up. Sunday's well there is. There is potential to get us through Exciting i'm looking forward to that. Hopefully hopefully it does materialize now last week. Obviously we heard the discussions from various sena. Mercedes figures touchable saying there's no more upgrades coming and james allison coming out. Say no no. They're awesome in the pipeline. We are bringing a few bits. And bobs have those upgrades arrived. They contributing factors today's pace. Or is that not linked. We haven't seen them yet. Nothing totally. We'll clarify today. That the upgrades the are coming. Which have been in the pipeline for awhile coming for the british grand prix so that they'll be there next week however. I think what the focus has been mercedes since last weekend is improving the setup and trying to get this car in a comfortable place. We heard Under shoveling say that The try this wacky setup. Which i think was to do with the role of the car and trying to get better balanced between qualifying pace and race pace which hadn't particularly worked out as well as they would have liked last weekend. He'd be playing around today. We still in putting flavors on the car just to understand kind of ride height setups. And how the athletes performing so it's all down to get in this car into a setup window that the drivers feel comfortable with because they can if they find that in. The thai degradation suddenly gets better like sunny. Switzer ties on and find the find. The pace so I've been their focus this weekend. Especially on setup and we know that message definitely leaving no stones. I'm tired we know that. Hamilton sampson was even in the simulator. Which we know he does not enjoy at all so a sign of a sign of testing times. Perhaps now you mentioned that they've really been trying to get everything they cannot set up. Of course we've only had a few days between the stadium grumpy and the australian grand prix. Have you noticed any other teams that have potentially brought any upgrades or any indication of different setups at their will things that are trying to capitalize on that they may have potentially lost out from last weekend for the main. One is us to martin. They've got a few tweaks on that car. They had caught a mixed day to day. Which normally sometimes happens. When you bring up to a car. You can spend some time to understand how it impacts the balance how impacts tie temperatures how impacts the fill in the car. You get comfortable setup so tomorrow the tomorrow this morning. They fell out that window. We saw on straw. Have two quite high-speed moments swimming veteran off the track as well at one point but they pulled it together and by the much more comfortable with a car. The pace was good. Finish in fourth and fifth was probably potentially that best friday of the season. I'm not super hot on the stats but Must be well up there so they look good. They look comfortable which needs to see tomorrow in terms of when everyone starts turn in the engine up and those teams that Ah for about the push because although they were Fourth and fifth loss was a five five one looking at Extra knock on in twelve was five point five so there's only a few temps still in it but equally if you can find this temps and if an upgrade brings you one or two temps that can be a lot of positions it absolutely can be especially on this track between us very short. So every little temp- helps everything masses moving on to red ball as quickly discussed them. Obviously last weekend they were very dominant. We saw how strong they were still looking. Shrum this weekend as well. Do you think that they are still the clear favorites..

Back to the story by the late eighteen fifties as he approached age. Thirty franz-josef was married and had sired a son promising a legacy beyond him but in spite of economic and social progress the empire was still dogged by civil unrest for as long as franz joseph had been on the throne. The assorted states of italy had been attempting to unify under a single flag. This set the backdrop for the second italian war of independence. A renewed effort to sever italian lands from the austrian empire in eighteen fifty eight count. Kevorkian's the leader of the italian state of piedmont struck a deal with napoleon the third of france. It was agreed that france would come to italy's aid if the austrian empire attacked piedmont. Franz-josef could not take this lying down on april twenty-sixth eighteen fifty nine. Austria declared war on piedmont in response following their pact. France declared war on austria attempting to recreate his triumph at santa lucia a decade earlier franz-josef himself led the charge at the battle of sulfur. Reno that june. But the austrian troops were outmatched by the combined forces of the french and sardinians. The austrian military retreated licking. Its wounds less than a month later. The war was over. Austria had lost and was to give up the territory of lamberti followed by other parts of italy in the coming years when italy would finally become united in his first year as emperor franz-josef had asserted himself militarily and diplomatically. Now he had made himself seem incompetent in both regards adding insult to injury. His failure added to the country's financial troubles setting the stage for a series of constitutional reforms. For all its early successes franz joseph's absolutist government had grown so inefficient that threatened to collapse the economy. His financial policies created such problems that in eighteen fifty nine. The national bank stopped accepting austrian currency. Private banking industry emerged to grease the wheels of commerce. But the heads of the banks were sick of being subjected to the emperor's army of bureaucrats. They demanded a constitution and oversight from democratically elected parliament. And they'd stop lending money until they got it to assuage the bankers fronts reinstated the reich strut an imperial council that eventually turned into a parliament. The authority of the newly revived. Parliament was confirmed by a new constitution in february of eighteen. Sixty one for the first dozen years of his reign. Franz-josef had resisted instituting constitution in the end. It was neither chanting protesters nor rifle-wielding revolutionaries that forced him to bend but a gaggle of disgruntled bankers but teaming disruptions at home did nothing to calm the empire's foreign enemies in eighteen sixty six franz-josef found himself at war again. This time on two fronts. They kingdom of prussia had been striving for years to unite the thirty nine sovereign states of germany under one banner however precious central role in the effort put them in conflict with the austrian empire. Culturally the leaders of austria were deeply linked to its german territories. German was the hubs board tongue and the language of the state government. If anyone was going to be at the center of a german unification franz-josef thought. It ought to be himself. But the emperor found himself strategically outmatched by the prussians. in particular. The kingdom's brilliant prime minister otto von bismarck years earlier he had announced that he was seeking any pretext to go to war with austria and it was a fight he meant to win to that end he contrived in alliance with italy. If franz josef opposed pressures activities in germany he would find himself simultaneously at war with italy to the south. It turned out exactly as bismarck had planned during the seven weeks. War of eighteen sixty six austrian forces one of few encounters on the italian front but lost resoundingly to the prussians. The defeat was humiliating and decisive. Austria's claims in germany were forfeited and franz-josef lost any hope. He still harboured of winning. The german crown the writing was on the wall. The hobbs berg dynasty was no longer the dominant force. It once had been now thirty. Six years old franz-josef was no longer the young conqueror thrown as a teenager at every step. He failed to live up to his early promise. And there were factions within the empire. Eager to exploit his weakness. Although hungary comprised a large portion of the austrian empire geographically and in terms of population the nation had never fully assimilated almost twenty years after the unsuccessful revolution of eighteen. Forty nine many hungarians still longed for independence by the mid eighteen sixties. Prominent leaders began to renew their calls for a new constitution and independent hungarian parliament. Franz-josef had to respond or risk another rebellion the austrian military was so depleted after its campaigns in italy and germany that the emperor was reluctant to take up another fight after years of contempt for hungary franz-josef was at last ready to bargain. Diplomatic aide. Came in an unexpected form. The emperor's wife during her many trips to hungary empress sissi had become something of a celebrity as beloved in the country. As most of the hubs. Borg's were reviled. Sissy had also become acquainted with the nation's powerbrokers she set up a series of meetings between her husband and two prominent figures telling him by letter. Exactly what he ought to say to them with her help. They arrived at a deal.

"Now back to the story at the start of his reign in december eighteen forty eight franz-josef surrounded himself with a trio of hawkish advisors making it clear that the young emperor meant to rule with an iron fist but the new year brought three immediate challenges to his authority an attempt by lawmakers in vienna to draft a constitution an uprising in italy and a fierce resurgence of the rebellion in hungary true to their military pedigree franz-josef and his advisors met all three of these challenges with overwhelming force at the beginning of eighteen. Forty nine a parliamentary counsel. The reichstag gathered in chromium a city located in present day czech republic commission the previous year under the approval of emperor ferdinand. The reichstag was the country's first elected parliament. The officials had already begun work on the new constitution before franz-josef took the throne. The document was to be fashioned. In the mold of the american and french constitutions establishing full representative government stripping the emperor of his unilateral powers and ending both state religion and nobility. The reichstag was stopped in. Its tracks and franz-josef instead introduced his own constitution he ultimately dissolved. The reichstag and its members were dismissed to make sure the lawmakers didn't rebel. The military was then send into patrol the area but while the regime was willing to strong arm lawmakers premier zhou franz-josef and his officers saved their most savage treatment for opponents in parts of the empire on march twelve following a month long armistice the war against austrian rule recommenced in the italian city of navarra field. Marshall rodeschini returned to italy with a contingent of troops crushing the rebellion in days. A period of harsh retribution against the italians followed with massive fines imposed land seized and an estimated nine hundred. Sixty people were executed but the defining conflict franz-josef first months on the throne was in hungary and on that front. The new emperor aim to crush the insurrection with such ferocity that no one would dare question his authority in april of eighteen forty nine. The hungarian resistance formed their own. Revolutionary government and proclaimed that the austrian emperor had been deposed franz-josef could have met this challenge with restraint negotiating with the new hungarian government. He could have made good on his predecessors promise of a constitution for hungry instead he called on the support of czar nicholas the first of russia the czar feared that a successful revolution in hungary might spark a similar uprising in poland which was then under russian control. Franz-josef fan the flames of the czars anxiety. He wrote nicholas that only. The glorious fraternity of their empires could save modern society from certain ruin. Czar nicholas offered the full support of his military to squash the hungarian rebellion that summer. With the aid of one hundred thousand russian soldiers. Franz josef's forces resoundingly defeated the hungarian forces near the city of t me suara hungary was once again firmly under austrian rule. Though the events had done nothing to cool hungary's hostility toward the empire. The atrocities by the austrian leadership after the war only inflame. The resentment especially incendiary was an austrian military leader. Baron julius fawn high now fine heino was a veritable sadist who had earned the nickname the beast of brisha for his torment of men women and children his time on the italian front fun high remained in charge of the subdued hungarian lands following his army's victory the emperor decreed that no executions be carried out without his express approval but by that point the beast had already been released despite franz joseph's decree over one hundred hungarian soldiers and officials were shot or hanged in spite of franz josef's attempts to restrain his most violent commanders. There is no denying his responsibility in the slaughter. No other european monarch in the entire nineteen century signed more death warrants than franz-josef. The i did following. The hungarian revolution particularly scandalous incident was the execution of hungarian politician lawyer but yanni. Although he was technically among the rebels but johnny had urged restraint an accommodation with the empire many believed his life would be spared but they underestimated the resolve of the new emperor at the urging of archduchess sophie who disliked but yanni for a perceived personal slight franz-josef ordered the man's execution by hanging on the eve of the execution. Botany with either a dull blade or penknife attempted suicide not wishing to make the wrong kind of spectacle by dragging the bleeding man to the gallows the officer in command shot him instead only to be censured for not carrying out the execution as ordered with the hungarian revolution finally behind him franz-josef set out to prove that he could affect change through diplomacy as well as violence in eighteen fifty he worked with the king of prussia to negotiate territory dispute. King frederick william. The fourth had been making incursions into the hess region of germany sometimes erupting into violence squabbles. With austrian troops their fresh off his own empires internal battles in italy and hungary franz-josef now found himself at the brink of war with a formidable foreign power. But the young emperor didn't blink as he went toe to toe with the prussian king who was thirty five years his senior against the protests of franz-josef advisers. The two leaders agreed to work together to plan what future germany would have an under whose control. It wasn't a great victory for the austrian empire but it was a shrewd bid of diplomacy. It also allowed franz-josef to demonstrate that he was not only a strong willed commander but also a competent administrator emboldened by his successes in battle and at the bargaining table. franz-josef began to display his legendary regal demeanor. He developed a habit of wearing his military uniform in public so much that he earned the nickname lieutenant. Red legs in reference to the color of his army pants. Franz-josef wanted to prove not only that he could hold office as his great grand uncle had done but that he could rule and rule well without anyone's help or interference in eighteen fifty one at the age of twenty one. He set out to do just that. On new year's eve franz-josef issued his silvester patent. Dissolve the constitution. He'd made earlier no longer. Would he be subject to advice or oversight from parliament. Franz-josef was in question. An absolute monarch his grip on the government would only tighten the following year in april eighteen. Fifty two franz josef's most trusted adviser prince felix. Schwarzenberg suffered a stroke and died. The emperor was distraught. He swiftly decreed that schwarzenberg's duly empty role as president of the ministerial council would go unfilled. Franz-josef couldn't possibly hope to find another counselor. He could trust as he had trusted schwarzenberg so he would rely on himself alone from that day forth franz-josef would serve as both the monarch and effectively as his own.

Air France, Austrian Flights Canceled as Russia Denies Belarus Bypass

"Air france and austrian airlines have both had to cancel services after their flight plans were rejected by moscow will for more on this. I'm joined by mark audie. Who's the principal director at my intelligence and a senior associate fellow at the royal united services institute in london and i'm also joined by multiple twenty four security correspondent ben. Ben i'll start with you Maybe can you deconstruct this for us. A little just we're supposed to be getting back into the air Airlines are very excited that they can of course be getting passengers and crisscrossing oliver europe We have this Small blockade or certainly some aircraft to have been turned around to entering russian aerospace It's quite unfortunate timing isn't it but it's all part of a wider context so we all remember that sundays saw this shocking version of a ryanair flight to minsk in belarus and the arrest of one passenger in opposition journalists and the us immediate sanctions were banning belarus in alliance from landing in the eu and ordering airlines to avoid belarussian aspects since then bellarusse is a whole on the radar. Almost can make out the the borders of the country on a map. Because there's no flights above it. It also meant that. Some flights between the eu and russia had to change routes and apparently now russian authorities are unwilling to accept that and declined those flights by f. haas genera. It isn't entirely clear. Why it's only those airlines and whether there are technically shoes to blame related to these route changes or if there are mostly political motivations for example signaling that russia standard belarus and that it's flexing its muscles and emphasizing the importance of its aviation market an airspace

In Praise of Bitcoin

"Friend of the show. Ben hunt has been on an intellectual journey with bitcoin over the last year really longer. But he's been especially forced to because we're jerks and we talked to him all the time about it on twitter and so he kind of had to be but he's written a new provocative piece called in praise of bitcoin. And rather than give it a bunch of intro. I'm just going to dive in. Thanks ben for allowing us to read this on. Today's show and i'll be back in a few minutes to discuss in praise of bitcoin. One evening a few weeks ago. I was on a zoom call with a bunch of academic think tank and fed economists for a bitcoin discussion. A lot of names. You'd know if you're familiar with those circles. The most famous one being paul krugman. Who by the way. I found to be charming genuinely open-minded and surprisingly humble about the entire enterprise of academic economics. I had been invited to be on the anti bitcoin side of the discussion but they needed have bothered. Because there was no pro- bitcoin side crumlin lead with a simple question. What's the use case for bitcoin. Not a theoretical thing. But in actual use of bitcoin to solve a problem in the real world which led to an hour. Long extremely earnest and altogether unsatisfying conversation about financial transfers out of venezuela trade settlement and securitisation. On the blockchain and taylor swift's ability to control the scalper resale market for her concert tickets. All of which are real things all of which are interesting things off at your good things but none of which are got twenty busy people on zoom call at eight pm thursday night. None of which are bitcoin now. To be fair there were no old school. Bitcoin maximal is on the call or if they were. They were too intimidated to make an austrian economics. Hard money neo go bug. Bitcoin is the inevitable. Global reserve currency argument in front of paul. Krugman lol finally couldn't take it anymore. Is this really why we got on the phone tonight to talk about a novel. Form of digital rights management talk about payment transfers out of authoritarian third world countries. Are these really are questions about bitcoin. Answer of course. Not what got these academic think tank and govern comments on the phone that night was bitcoin. Trading at fifty thousand the question that everyone truly cared about but a question that everyone danced around for the better part of an hour was this. Is there any there there. In the price of bitcoin
