Flight disruptions cascade across US after computer outage

"Flight disruptions have cascaded across the country after a computer outage. Fewer flights on the big board say canceled many say delayed. Jesse Bose's trip to Austin, Texas, changed when she looked at the board. My flight just got canceled, so that's fun. And I just rebooked it. Vote says she just wants to get to her destination. If that doesn't happen, it won't be the first time I slipped in an airport. Bose realized that this whole plane situation is out of her hands. It was in my hands. I would be so fired up right now. I would riot, not actually, but since it's out of my hands and out of my control, I'll just accept what happens. And Ronald Reagan, Washington national airport, I'm Ed Donahue

The Gulf Between Left and Right

"This is truly fascinating. The Round Rock independent school district school board outside of Austin, Texas. Elected Esteban zarate to win a seat on the Round Rock school board. Said parents in his community were interested in fostering equity for students and promoting safety in the pandemic. Let's take the safety in the pandemic part now. So liberal parents in Austin are at peace indeed beyond that peace their advocate of shutting down schools during COVID. No matter how much damage was done to kids, not attending school for nearly two years, not seeing faces for nearly two years because of the idiotic counterproductive destructive, un science based idea of masking kids, despite all that, therefore it. Now, does this help explain the, what I call and half for years, the unbridgeable gulf between left and right? You're a parent who thinks that it was a good idea to deprive your child of school for two years. You have to be a liberal or a leftist to believe that. But in this case, I think liberals and leftists think identically, in most cases, they don't.

Rep. Chip Roy: Elect Republicans

"We've got to get people in office first It's just practical Pretending that politicians are masters of the universe He man and they have these superhuman abilities is insane We need a large enough majority that we can give this swing state or some breathing room while letting conservatives guide the agenda like you Yeah let me agree with a slight amendment which is to say absolutely we should throw out in full force to get every Republican elected running against a Democrat Because if you're a Democrat running today on the democratic ticket you are accepting the terms of this administration and accepting the terms of anti Pelosi to be at war with the American people You are not aligned with our values You are not aligned with the constitution You are not in any way for limited government free enterprise Our faith in the lord almighty and allowing the American people to prosper So elect Republicans And yes I want as big a majority as we can have My slight amendment is I don't accept the premise that these squishes who run in so called purple districts I don't accept that the right way to do that is to cave When I was running two years ago against Wendy Davis in Austin Texas I had an R plus four district It was a tighter district I ran hardcore as a conservative Unabashedly unapologetically And we won by 7 points we outperformed president Trump We had lots of people enthusiastically supporting us even some liberals that were like you know I don't always agree with you but I appreciate that you stand up for what you believe in You got to lead damn it Get up and stand up for something and stand up for America and people will follow

Kami Irwin Describes US13 #HonorTheFallen

"Kami, what is U.S. 13 honor the fallen? Will you tell us what this idea is and how you're going to honor the 13? Yes, thanks for having me. That picture came to life so quickly. It was just very impressive, but U.S. 13 stands for united. I held it as a tribute here in Austin, Texas last year. We had 13 votes, 13 flags at 1300, the community here in Austin came together to support my dream of doing this that hopefully one day any one of those families would see that people care that people are so disheartened by what happened to our troops and from there it just started to spread on social media and it started getting back to those families and I had no idea that would happen that soon. I had some of the family sending me thank you cards, which was totally unnecessary. I did that because I wanted them to know how much we care and it's now I've traveled over the last few months met some of the families. We have social media relationships and we are now holding another tribute to honor the sacrifice that those 13 gave up for this country and it has been one of the saddest emotional humbling journeys I've ever began in my life.

Why 'Supreme Disorder' Author Ilya Shapiro Resigned From Georgetown

"Guys, I'm really happy to welcome to the podcast Ilya Shapiro. He's senior fellow director of constitutional studies at the Manhattan institute, but previously he was the executive director and senior lecturer at Georgetown university, the center for the constitution. He's the author of supreme disorder and other works. I want to talk about his experience at Georgetown and related to some of the larger issues we're dealing with in academia. Ilya, welcome to the podcast, great to have you, it seems like you've gone through a kind of a traumatic experience that Georgetown. But I think you're not alone in facing this kind of an issue. So maybe I'll begin by just asking you to describe what happened at Georgetown. It all started, I believe, with a tweet. Yeah. Yeah, good to be with you, dinesh. I had been at the Cato institute for nearly 15 years doing constitutional law. And thought it might be a good time in my career to switch to try to have a different kind of impact, got a wonderful offer from Georgetown to head up the center with alongside professor Randy Barnett, a giant of constitutional law. A few days before I was due to assume my new duties, so this is at the end of January, when news of justice Breyer's retirement leaked, I was doing media that day, I was on the road. I was in Austin, Texas, and used what's not a best practice in doom scrolling my Twitter feed late at night in my hotel room, and was unhappy with President Biden's having declared that he would be limiting his candidate pool by race and sex. He said that he'd pick a black woman. And I said, well, look, and to my mind, if I were a democratic president, I would pick Sri srinavasan. He would be the first Indian American justice as well, very well reputed on the D.C. circuit. But of course, he's disqualified because it doesn't have the right intersectional characteristics. And that tweet set off a firestorm. I was even before joining Georgetown, I was suspended, and there was a four month long investigation into whether my commentary violated the university's harassment and anti discrimination policies. At the end of which they discovered, oh, one of their lawyers looked at the calendar and realized I had not been an employee when I tweeted. And so those policies didn't even apply

Would the Green Jacket Will Draw the Most Women?

"Think I posted this, I posted this question and on Twitter and we'll see how the response is kind of come in. I'll run back down and look at my phone, but what if you had to wear which of these trophies would definitely require a snorkel going into a bar? And assuming you were there to drink out of it or in it. The wanamaker, the U.S. open trophy, the claret jug or a green jacket. Or does it depend where you are? Is that a regional? It's the biggest one. I mean, if you're gonna fill that thing up with beer, it's gotta be that one. Right? I mean, you're talking about like 20 something beers. No dude. Are you talking about? They're like taking this thing down in one sitting. Are you talking about taking this thing down? I'm like, no, I'm talking about like you're going out. I'm talking about like, you're going out to the club. Which do you think the ladies would flock to the most? The green jacket. The green jacket. I said snorkel. I said snorkel. The wanamaker, the Clara jug, which I think would be the most fun to drink out of because that thing is so old, I could only imagine what old Tom Morris was leading out of the claret jug. Well, yeah. And then the U.S. open trophy. If you're talking about snorkel as in getting, you know, getting the entire female population just drowning and if that's what you mean, then yeah, it's the green jacket. Even the dumbest 18 year old college freshman, you know, watches the masters with her dad and knows what the green jacket means. So that's got to be the answer. You walk into a bar wearing. If Scottie scheffler walks into a college bar in Austin, Texas, wearing the green jacket, and he's not married, and he's single. Yes, he has the pick of the litter. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter who's in there.

"Purpose is people. For a marketplace in Austin, Texas, I'm Andy, you learned for David brancaccio. It was a rough week for crypto to say the least volatility of the max, but and who knows what's going to happen today. Marketplace is Nancy Marshall Ginsburg joins me now live with the details. Good morning, Nancy. Hey, good morning, Andy. So Bitcoin fell below that $20,000 level on Saturday, then it bounced back yesterday, fell again overnight. Who knows what's going to happen. Now that $20,000 Mark, that's important, right? Yeah, it's really seen as a benchmark and Bitcoin bulls had insisted it wouldn't go lower than that. Investors are selling riskier assets, though, like crypto because they're worried about the possibility of a recession. The Federal Reserve hiked interest rates by three quarters of a percentage point last week, and there are fears that if the fed over does it and raises rates too much, it'll cool off the economy too much and cause a recession. And there's this theory that crypto is a hedge against inflation. That's taking a hit these days, right? What's going on there? Yeah, it's definitely taking a hit. I mean, crypt of crypto has been compared to gold, which is a very popular hedge against inflation because it holds its value, but crypto doesn't have an inherent value like gold. It's a currency. So when you buy or sell crypto, you're trading a currency. You're not really investing, and now there are worries about a cascade of liquidations of people cashing out their crypto, the crypto lending platform Celsius is in letting its users withdraw funds right now. It's incredible. So where do we go from here? Well, crypto bowls are insisting it will stabilize, but there are no guarantees in the fed is going to keep raising interest rates trying not to cause a recession, but that will be a very tricky balancing act. Marketplace needs Marshall Ginsburg thanks so much. You're welcome. Let's do the numbers. U.S. markets are closed today in observance of Juneteenth, which was the yesterday Juneteenth celebrates the Emancipation of enslaved African Americans. President Biden officially made Juneteenth a federal holiday last year. In overseas markets, the FTSE in London is up 1%, just a little more than 1% to China, China Shanghai composite was down 1.36 points at close. The murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed in 2020 prompted a lot of Americans to do more business with black owned businesses. Black owned bookstores in particular saw a wave of new customers interested in titles like ibram kendi's how to be an antiracist. Marketplace Matt Levin checks in on how those bookstores are faring two years on. Turning page bookshop in goose creek South Carolina is the only black owned brick and mortar bookstore in the state. The Linda Miller knew the flood of attention her store was getting in 2020, wouldn't last forever. 2022, the reality hit. I don't even have half that search. That we had in 2020. Many of the customers she picked up during the height of BLM protests have stuck around, but Miller says she can see the momentum fading and rising gas and food prices are chipping away at her customers book budgets. So I do understand that inflation is pretty bad. That's why I try to sell the books at a reasonable price. Sales of books about race and discrimination are down by 25% since the middle of last year, says Kristin McLean at the consumer research firm the NPD group. As time has gone on, I think people have turned their attention to other things. But McLean says sales are still a lot higher than they were before the 2020

Charlie Dissects Horrific 'Drag Your Kids to Pride' Event in Dallas

"Happening in Dallas, Texas, while we were doing something very constructive and I believe something that was virtuous or at least attempting to be very virtuous, which was something else in Dallas, Texas that has gone completely viral. Is worthy of our examination. In Dallas, Texas, this is now gone completely viral. There was an event. It was called the Dallas drag your kids to pride event, which has gone viral because it showed drag queens. With young children, as the young kids in the front row were handing the money to the drag queens. Behind the drag queens was a neon big sign that said it won't lick itself. There was another neon sign. I'm actually struggling to remember what the other neon signs said, but it's just as disgusting. Now there were kids as young as 5 or 6 or 7 years old in the front row, watching these drag queens perform, giving them money. Now it bears repeating, this was in Dallas, Texas, where parents were taking their 5 6 and 7 year olds to this drag bar with a neon sign that said it's not going to lick itself. Now, this has gone completely viral, and in fact, I'm very glad it has gone viral because even some people that are more moderate on these issues have decided to speak out and say this is reprehensible. This is awful. Now, this is not an Austin Texas. This is in Dallas.

Author Lee Strobel on What Near-Death Experiences Tell Us

"What is in this book, the case for heaven? This is your discussions with people who have seen who have experienced these kinds of things. Yeah, I interviewed neuroscientists, for instance, and others on the question of what a near death experience is really tell us. Because I was a skeptic about this. I thought no wait, they're just hallucinations. That's just oxygen. Even as a Christian, you were a skeptic of that stuff. I didn't think that the science supported. I thought, okay, I can't believe what the Bible says, but certainly near death experiences are just mythology and make believe in wishful thinking. But what I learned was that there have been 900 scientific articles written about near death experiences over the last 40 years and published in scientific and medical journals. This is a very well researched area of science. In fact, the lancet, which is the famous medical journal in England, did an article that said that when you look at all of the alternative explanations for near death experiences, oh, it's oxygen deprivation. So none of those explanations explain what actually takes place. And then I interviewed John Burke for my book. John Burke is a Christian pastor in Austin, Texas. He has studied a thousand near death experiences over 35 years. And his conclusion, which was radical to me, is that when you look at the core of what happens in these near death experiences, yes, there are some differences. But look at the core of what actually takes place. Don't look at how people interpret it, but look what actually occurs, it is consistent with Christian theology. That was very important to me. And you mentioned the word corroboration, and I'm with you. I mean, you know, when somebody tells me, oh, I died and I met Jesus and these 5 foot ten is brown eyes. I may go, okay, well, I can't corroborate that. But when we have a study that was done of 21 blind people, most of them blind since birth, who, during their near death experiences, could see for the first

"W I B C Good morning. It's great to be with you. The story of uber in in Austin, Texas, is is a simple one. Uber works. And everybody who is a rational human being knows that it works. You have an app? A car comes to your door. Whether you wanna carpool of somebody. You want your own car. You wanna luxury car? You want an SUV? You need something. The car seat boom. All those options are there it comes to you. And then the uber driver will take you exactly where you want to go. Not someplace dictated by the Indianapolis City County Council to you know, via via Red line. Not some place that was essentially planned. No, you make your choice. This creates unbelievable opportunities for people in the gig economy. The gig economy certainly can have an effect on more standardized businesses. But people can work when they want and how they want and they already have the car and they're good to go. October and left. It's brilliant. These people run taxi companies, They don't own a taxi. That's genius. That's what they're doing. In Austin, Texas. They said, You know what? No. We can't allow this. We'll do it ourselves. We'll do it ourselves. What do you mean? You'll do yourself? We'll do it ourselves. We'll have our own system. We'll have our own system here, and it will be great and fantastic. And within six months that system was out of business. Oh, It's a lesson about how governments can't do all things. As a matter of fact, government can't do much. Reliance on government. Uber works everywhere except in those places where it is regulated or legislated out of business. And then nothing works and the people suffer. This brings us to California. Where they have now created a $100 Million fund. To help floundering as they as they report about it at Bloomberg. Floundering marijuana businesses feel big, very read the bank would be no. Everything is better with the bag on me Visit only nothing. Whatever need because everything is better with the manual. What in.
