Austin political group says City of Dallas forced them to cancel convention
"Group in Austin says the city of Dallas is showing bias by forcing them to cancel the convention this weekend. Carol. These Allen's Kaya has the story and Americans for Liberty is based in Austin. They were planning a training convention for 1400 students and hundreds more investors and politicians. President Cliff Maloney's has Austin forced him to cancel. So they made plans to move to the Omni Dallas We took a bet, and we lost that that that that was that the leadership in Dallas would be competent. It would be rational. He says They got a call this week after the group had already started moving supplies and equipment that the hotel would not allow the convention. It's hard to not see this as a biased decision when the city is allowing protesters and then we slowly straight days of protest in the city of Dallas is the company managing the army made the decision, but large indoor gatherings have had to be cancelled to comply with the governor's order. Company managing the hotel says it gave a refund and offered to reschedule. Maloney says it's too close to the election.
City of Dallas Cancels Young Americans for Liberty Convention
"To to Dallas Dallas this this weekend weekend for for a a convention. convention. Organizers Organizers say say this this city city waited until the last minute to cancel over fears of covert 19. Charlie's Allen's Kaya joins us live with details on that, Alan. Good morning. Scott Young Americans for Liberty is a libertarian group described as a graph grassroots youth organization. They're based in Austin, and they'd been planning convention of the Army in Dallas this weekend called mobilized 2020 President Cliff Baloney says they were expecting about 1500 students and then hundreds more investors and political leaders, including Rand Paul, He says young Americans for liberty and agreed to wear masks. Everybody had to stay together while they're here, and they would serve boxed lunches instead of using of a fame. He says they had already arrived with equipment, signs and materials to set up on the stage of the army. But they got the call this week they could not hold the convention. I think where we got frustrated was the city of Dallas through a bunch of curve balls at us over the last month, and we continue to adapt and comply, and even about 10 days before the event, I mean, they gave us full sign off from the fire marshal. So that's why it's frustrating. They waited till the last minute. Riding kind of giving us a heads up that the city of Dallas has management at the Omni Hotel made the decision and says they offered to postpone the convention centers to cancel it. The Omni says it did not want to hold a convention because of the pandemic, but has offered to reschedule. Young Americans for Liberty had moved the convention to Dallas when they were not a lot before in Austin and Pony says they're just gonna have to cancel instead of try to reschedule again. David Archer previews the Atlanta Falcons
"The Atlanta Falcons will do so with a former Falcons quarterback. Now he is their longtime color analysts on the radio network for Atlanta. And that is David Archer. David Hope all is. Well. Thanks for doing this. When we look at the Falcons, they made a big offseason acquisition getting Todd Gurley We don't know where the health is of Todd Gurley. What do you expect at a Todd Gurley coming over from l. A to Atlanta for this upcoming season? Well, be honest with you. I think we're expecting a lot of early and mainly in the Red zone. If you look at Todd Gurley's numbers, even with with so called quote unquote down near Around 900 yards rushing, still had 12 touchdowns. All 12 of those touchdowns came in the red Zone, and I think that Atlanta if they could find a way to run the football down close Help three up the talented weapons that Ryan has on the perimeter. Now, listen, you have a little bit more of a potent attack a little bit more looking a little bit more like what? You looked like a 16 when Avante Freeman and Tevin Coleman. We're carrying the ball down there close and created that problem in the run game. Atlanta has not had that over the last couple of seasons. I think that's where they expect Todd Gurley to make his main hey is down there in the red Zone. With the way that you probably have to manage his reps as a running back the rest of the running back room. Is there something that jumps out to you? Yeah, I think it's a good group. Really Do I think that when you look at Brian, Ill in the way, Brian Gillis Kamani together that Hawkins drafted a couple of years ago, Brian Handsome solid moments a year ago. Quadri Allyson. Kid at Pittsburgh rookie from a year ago. Uh, kind of woke himself. A little bit of a roll is a short yardage guy. £225 Goal line Guy, four touchdowns. Hopefully, you know, Smith can come back. He was injured in the game a year ago. I believe against the Rams in which he was trying to pick up a Blitzer, which he shouldn't be here should be doing, but he is an outstanding receiver out of the backfield. And a good change of pace back at the back, So they get to three young guys that I think you could lean on. And like you said, Take some of that. Load off. Assad, Girl. Let's get to the next down. And when we do so, we take a look at Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The two big names in that organization. Do you still believe that this team could be a play off team once again with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones? I do, but it's you know, obviously, it's about you know your supporting cast and you do some things on the other side of the ball, and I'm sure there's a question you've got to worry about the defense's side the football, But there there's a little area in the offensive line. The left guard has been a little bit leaky, right guard's been a little bit leaky because of some injuries and things that they could shore up that into your part of the offensive line. Ryan's Like most classic quarterbacks climb in the pocket. They got to be able to give him that opportunity. Do so if you get into your pressure and accurate from problems, one game will help in that regard, but Yeah. Julio Jones, 16 seconds, 1300 yard seasons. Matt Ryan, nine consecutive 4000 yard seasons. I don't see the one those guys backing off. When you talk about that offensive line to follow up on that I'm a big fan of Matt Hennessy. Being a temple grad, really smart football player puts in a lot of work. Is he going to make an immediate impact in your number one? Yeah, There's always a question that he's certainly in the mix to be the starting guard. There's no question about that. I think that there's ah lot excitement around when he brings the table and and obviously the heir apparent, Alex Mack, probably its center. So Alex back in a little bit longer to still have a good football any But I need to put some guys around him that Khun taken, it could be in there and we had German Brown and James Carpenter guys that could not stay on the field. There was some solid moments from those two big veteran players, but they did not stay on the field and consistency. In the interior specialist that left guard spotted Kennedy ultimately will probably win that job and be the starter that guard let's get to the next down. All right, David Archer. When they flip the switch here and go to the other side of the ball defensively, it was an up and down year for the defense, but it seemed like they did finish in a better spot than what they did earlier on in the season. You could probably say that for the entire team with the Atlanta Falcons this division. Is loaded with offensive talent. You know what the Saints are. Now you have Tom Brady and the division with Tampa Bay, and I'll be curious to see what Teddy Bridgewater does with the Panthers. What's your read on the Falcons defense entering 2020 Well, it's an uncertain situation obviously went on God. Dante Fowler, Dad's pressure off the edge contact. McKinley realized what they thought they had when they drafted him a couple of years and the number one spot picked up Charles Haley, who, ironically, was in the same draft. And raided a route the same attack McKinley are Charles Harris. I'm sorry. Charles. Charles Charles Haley. Right way. I'd like to have the guy that was rushing the pastor there for both the Cowboys in the 40 Niners. That would be great, but Harris. He does have some raw talent there. Can't he realize that I'm the Falcon Tutelage will have to wait and see Grady dear. It's an emerging star in the tackle position and Marlon Davidson, Vienna and an interesting ad, a guy that has the versatility to play inside. Maybe in past situations and also play the perimeter as a 34 defensive didn't run down situations. The answer at all Burn second round draft pick of the fact that they think they've upgraded their defensive line. It'll have to be upgraded because you get extremely young secondary. Probably gonna have a rookie a corner starting your nickels, a second year guy in your other corners of third year, guys, So there's a lot of young players on the perimeter need to get some pass rush speed up the thought process for the quarterback. Let's get to the final down. Alright. I'm surprised that Dan Quinn is Bacca's the head football coach for the Lancer Falcons. What does he have to do this year to keep his job and Is that seats the warm because, like I said, I was surprised that they brought him back for this year. It is warm. I think that it's fortunate they brought him back because of the current situation with the pandemic and the uncertainties, so some continuity certainly has played into Atlanta Falcons off season. I think they've had a solid offseason, much as you can, with the limitations. They're attached to this year, So I think that it was good in retrospect that, uh, Mr Black decided to keep Dan Quint on, but I think he's got there. They've got a bit pushed for a playoff spot. I think they've got to be. They can't come out of the box one in seven. It's got to be a team. It's in the hunt of the entire way. As you said, it's going to be outstanding division with outstanding quarterback play, but they have to be in the hunt to be a part of the postseason play. If they do that. And I think the fans will be a little bit of stab on the wound for the fans. But if you get out to a slow start, it would not surprise me. If if Mr Blank made some kind of decision mid season on coach Boy and I think, coach when is the right guy for the job Now it's put up or shut up. He scored a touchdown will go for two here Oscar. One more question This team was 11 5 We all know the deal they were in the Super Bowl blew the 28 23 lead. The next year, they did go 10 and six, the last two years. It's seven and nine. If you had to identify the biggest reason why this team has regressed, and I know they've had some injuries to but overall if it's not the health of the team, what's the biggest thing that you look at? Why this team wasn't able to recreate that magic from 2016 and 2017? I think their inconsistency ball on both sides of the football in conversion, down situations and in the red zone. I think Atlanta's done a great job of moving the ball from 20 to 20 But when they get in the red zone, they bogged down and settle for too many threes. And I think in turn the defense's side of the football. What about 22 23 scoring defense coming up 25 points a game. They've got to find a way to get more stops in the red zone. That's probably the answer that you could probably get from all teams struggled and not made the playoff teams, but I certainly think That that's identifiable with the Falcons over the last couple years, the inability down deep in the red Zone both on offensive defense, Julio Jones, he's Ah Hall of Fame player. We all know that one of the better wide receivers in the league He's only had one year of double digit touchdowns, going back to 2012 when he had 10 TUC maybe 10 touchdowns in his fortunes this year. Well, I think he's certainly capable of it. But you got an outstanding receiver on the other side of Calvin Ridley, who's realized his abilities down in the red Zone Pretty close. I think Aidan hearse is going to be a seamless transition from Austin Hooper tight end spot So there are a lot of weapons from that Ryan to get the football too. Don't forget Todd Gurley and how good he is at the back catching the football as well. So I I would say no, I think he's going to be 89 touchdowns. I don't think he goes double digits, but I think there's a lot of guys around him. They're going to score touchdowns. Look for guys somewhere between 13 14 guys catch touchdown passes issue. Say that we appreciate it. Thanks so much. You be well, my

SpaceX launches Starship prototype on dramatic test flight
"So I up some news on space of course earlier this week, they had the successful completion of the crew demo to mission with the splashdown astronauts, Bankin and Doug. Yesterday. We had some more good news on space x with the successful test flight hundred and fifty meter hop as they are known, which is just a launch and then a quick landing of starship prototype vehicle S and five or serial number five. So this was a similar to these star hopper flight that happened last year. If you remember that and the reason, these tests are so exciting because this is the. Iteration process for the vehicle that will eventually carry humans to Mars at least that is the goal Yulon in June said that they are targeting to for the first cargo mission to Mars and twenty twenty four for the first crude mission. Among other things, this test is based XS next generation raptor engine. This test flight was a single engine vehicle. The final starship is supposed to have six raptor engines and that will. Eventually sit on rocket booster called super heavy with thirty one of the raptor engines as far as what comes next for starship. Yuan, said quote we'll do several short hops to smooth out launch process. Then go high altitude with lots and quote in reply to a tweet from rocket photographer Austin Bernard, which read quote today marks the beginning of a new era even though this is a small step, we are A. Giant leap closer to Mars than we were yesterday. The Future of interplanetary travel is upon US Mars here we come and quote Yulon replied quote Mars is looking real and quote also in response to on twitter he said progress is accelerating salon was clearly very happy with the results of

The Importance of Self Compassion
"If there's anything we can use right now and in the coming months itself compassion. Today I'm joined by Dr Kristin Nafta about the many ways of compassion. He can be a helpful to us to get through these difficult times. Kristen is currently an associate professor of educational psychology. At the University of Texas at Austin. She's a pioneer in the field of self compassion research conducting the first empirical studies on self compassion over fifteen years ago. In addition to writing numerous academic articles and book chapters on the topic. She is the author of this book self compassion the proven power of being kind to yourself released by. William Moro. In conjunction with her colleague Dr Chris. Germer she has developed an empirically supported training program called mindful self compassion, which is taught by thousands of teachers worldwide. Dr Nefyn I chatted about what self compassion is how is different from self esteem, how it can be helpful in mediating difficult emotions and her favorite activity for practicing self compassion. If anything resonates with you while enjoying our conversation, please share with us on social media using the Hashtag t BG in session. Here's our conversation. Thank you so much for joining us today. Chris and I'm really really excited to chat with you. Self compassion was are yellow collective book club choice for last month. So it feels very timely for you to be joining us for this conversation. That's great. Wonderful. Happy to be here. Yeah. So I wonder if you could start just by talking with us about what self compassion is in what it isn't right. So the easiest way to think of what self compassion is simply being a good frontier self I saw in. Terms of how you relate yourself. Especially when you're struggling, you're struggling because you feel inadequate made a mistake or just when life is really difficult that you treat yourself with the same type of kindness warm care support concern that you would nationally showed two good friend, right? Most of us don't do that most of us go if we talk to our friends where we talk ourselves who would have no friends I in. So really self compassion is just turning that around and doing a u-turn in being kind ordered to ourselves. Now. Some people get confused about this they think. To ourselves me being self indulgent being lazy being selfish that actually that's not passionate right so so if you want the technical definition of compassion is concerned with alleviation of suffering. and. So in your self indulgent or you're lazy or you know you're helping yourself in your naturally getting your suffering, you're actually causing yourself more problems in the long run. Also, the word compassion comes from the Latin Pasha means to suffer an income means with. So. There's an inherent connectedness in self. Compassion is a sense set while everyone's imperfect everyone struggling. You know it's not just me, and this is what makes up compassion different than somebody Mike self-pity. Self Passion US remember that this is part of the shared human experience. You know it's not just me. To say that especially in today's times whenever I say that some people think this is like a coded version of all lives matter. Right. It doesn't acknowledge that some groups suffer more than others. Absolutely do the amount of suffering is different. The source of suffering is different. All people in all groups do not suffer the same way, and so we need to acknowledge that as the human experience. And yet every single individuals especially when it comes to relating to their own suffering, their own suffering is if you're paying. If you treat your own paying with kind of a kind caring response. You will be able to turn your attention outward more effectively. So it really sounds like you know sometimes we hear this conversation around like Grief Olympics are paying Olympics right where we're trying to say like, Oh, my heart is bigger than your heard, right? Yeah. Exactly. It's not like that York saying that my pain is bigger or smaller you recognize people's pain different is very important. I think especially nowadays you we have to recognize. Those. Who structural reasons pain of all people is not the same. And yet was self compassion. We can treat our own pain as worthy of a compassionate us. We're just saying that, hey, I haven't paying I haven't perfect and I'm not the only one very simple outweigh. The reason that so important is because if you get into self, pity was made for me like victim mentality fx not helpfully

NFL Sets Opt Out Period. Thought On NBA Bubble. Pac-12 Players Set Demands. - burst 1
"We actually went to Walmart the other day. And we just Austin ran into China, walk without a mess and I'm like, what do you need doing? Just do it just where the? The stop them at the door give him a mass. Just where your mass to. Say. About that process. But my point, I'm trying to say some timeout the NFL. The NFL has pushed the opt out period to Thursday at four PM. Now, it was obvious. It was actually a pushed up to Tuesday or Wednesday. And then according from, Patriots, came out and said. Privilege called the NFL rushing us to do this. This is the thing. The NFL is a business. Okay. The NFL is just trying to figure out who is it? WHO's not? And I'm less and I get when this first came out I'm thinking myself. What the heck is the NFL doing they are making these guys decide. Obviously there's been so many players show fight about deller forty, three, forty, five players have opted out of the season so far eight from the New England patriots. So I, understand what according to saying, why forcing us to do this Today. This is business. A have guidelines in place at the facilities at the buildings that were at the compounds to make sure. To try Insures excuse me. That, we are minimizing positive tests that if everyone does their part. We should not have any more tests. Positive cases but some players still do do or do not feel safe Patrick Mahomes came out and said, he feels a lot better with what the NFL is put in place. Obviously his name, his opinion can carry a lot of weight. For other players. But there are still plays out there saying forget it. I'm not GONNA do it. And now with the deadline? At four PM. Is Actually what I'm very curious about. What. Happens if someone does after the this deadline do they face? Permits. Do they actually just say we're not GONNA pay your one fifty. Is that what happens? As of right now, I'm not seeing anything on there.
How to Do #MeToo Without Prison
"When the METOO movement caught fire in two thousand seventeen. The loudest demands centered on calling out offenders and seeing them prosecuted. But metoo founder Toronto Burke has been clear that mass incarceration is not the solution. Today's guest. Dr. Eliza Ackerman agrees. Prison doesn't work. The fact of the matter is only three percent of people who commit rape will adversity a day behind bars. And, the process of going through the criminal justice system is incredibly incredibly harmful for survivors. They are disbelieved, they are victimized again. Their entire sexual history is put on display in the courts. So knowing all of that we are looking for something that actually decreases harm. decreases, violence increases, empathy decreases recidivism, and that's what we find with restorative justice. Dr Ackermann is a criminal justice professor at California State University at Fullerton where she specializes in research on sexual violence and sex crimes policy. She's also a pioneer in her field of resolving sexual violence through a process called restorative justice. So ordinarily, our legal system response to criminal behavior with three questions. Questions what law was broken, who broke it, and what punishment is warranted. But restorative justice asks who was harmed, what are the needs and responsibilities of everyone affected and how can everyone involved collectively repair the harm that was done. Basically, it's all about healing survivors, communities, and offenders today. Eliza is guiding us through the restorative justice approach to sexual violence. Would it feels like for survivors and why it's a promising path toward preventing sex crimes in the first place all to find out? How can we do me to without prisons? Harvey Weinstein in an orange, jumpsuit has come to symbolize me to era justice, but the movement's original vision resonates far more with transformative and restorative justice approaches. Right. So toward the end of last week's part one. On feminism and mass incarceration prison abolitionist. My Shinwari told us about the transformative justice model that model aims to resolve harm without creating additional harm and without involving the legal system at all restorative justice shares that goal, but it can be put into practice both. And outside the system, what it entails is creating safe spaces. For. Survivors and for people who have caused harm to talk about the impacts that sexual harm has had, and it gives the survivor, a safe space to talk about really the very intimate aspects of sexual violence and the aftermath of that. It allows the survivor to ask questions of people who have caused harm. It also allows those people who have caused harm to ask questions at gives them insight about the behavior Dave engaged in that they would never get. From being processed through the criminal justice system, the term restorative justice was coined in nineteen, seventy, seven by prison psychologist, Albert igla-s, but its core principles come directly from indigenous forms of conflict resolution like sentencing circles and peacemaking courts most. Restorative justice programs focused on youth offenders and family welfare cases. But in recent years, experts like Eliza have started applying it to adult cases involving sexual violence for a number of practical reasons. Yeah. Many survivors don't trust police to properly handle their claims and many know their perpetrators and don't necessarily want to face them in a criminal trial plus evidence suggests that the restorative justice approach is both more empowering for survivors that going through a criminal trial and that it's a more effective method for perpetrators to actually learn their lesson and not re-offend. COMES BECAUSE? People. See as soft. Right they see you've done something wrong. You need to do the time for it. But Harsh Punishment Austin to anything to reduce harm to anybody, and if you ask the men that I have worked with what they would rather do face may or face another survivor, sit in a prison south, they will tell you prison cell every time. So I think once people understand that restorative justice is not soft. And, that it's actually much much more difficult to do. Maybe they'll get on board.

I'm happy to buy any house near Your House I'm going GonNa have to save up a little bit but I can do it and then seconds I see where they're coming from but it also feels like Charlie's is coming from a place of she hasn't had healthy relationships lately maybe or she hasn't found that person you do want to live with I. Think we all kind of think that after we go to break, we're like no more of the opposite sex ever again taking that much of my personal mind and then raging you find someone. And you can grow with and maybe they start outside the house maybe eventually you're like, Hey, let's have toothbrushes in the same room. Let's try that out for a little while. Yeah, I feel like with Charlene I think that also when you are single for such a long time, you kind of get set in your ways and just having the idea of someone come in and just rearranging things becomes really daunting and just quite frankly really annoying and to be honest Shirley's does not need to settle. She doesn't need to do anything that is inconvenient for her at all. So like I. Totally under understand her mindset of like I don't. Yeah. Come over when you need to do the deed otherwise I don't need to be moving my cashmere sweaters for you to put your jeans and the next door take your time says the girl that got engaged in seven months. I was like, all right give it to me okay Brian. Austin. The great broadband divide: Living without high-speed internet access
"Austin, Texas, So many kids weren't online last semester, but the school system had to print and male 40,000 homework packets a week. They resorted to fill in school buses with portable WiFi hot spots and parking them near apartment complexes where a lot of people have no broadband service. Now, you might say Austin shining star of high Tech American cities. According to geese own Austin illustrates the biggest broadband problem of all the vast majority of Americans who don't have broadband Internet access is because they can't afford it because the price is too high. And sure enough, the U. S. Has the third most expensive broadband Internet in the developed world. Mostly because there's not much competition. It's just a money problem and not a problem of putting wires in the ground. We should be complaining about both the lack of actual network infrastructure. In many places, but also the cost. The thing is, we fix problems like this before. In 1930 for only 11% of rural Americans had electricity. President Franklin Roosevelt created the rural Electrification Administration. New lines going up almost everywhere. At the rate of 500 miles a day, and within 20 years, 90% of those homes had cheap, reliable electricity. Now. Over the years, the government has come up with a basket of programs designed to help with Internet affordability and accessibility. Unfortunately, sewn says they haven't always worked as designed. The FCC has now for well over a decade paid out tens of billions of dollars to rule broadband companies to build Internet access. In places where there isn't any And the fact of the matter is is that the government has gotten a very, very poor return on its investment. This FCC and I'll even say you know, the FCC that I work for has not done a very good job of demanding that these companies tell us what they've actually built with the money they've gotten. This is not making the FCC looked too good. I don't think it's incompetence. I think part of it is resource is you know the the FCC staff has shrunk enormously. In the last decade or so, where to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the FCC chairman a Jeep. I declined our request for an interview. But in a written response, the FCC says We ensure efficient cost effective spending on subsidies for rural broadband. Earlier this year, Congress passed a law requiring the FCC to improve the way it measures Internet access. But the FCC says that nothing will happen unless Congress also pays for it. The FCC simply does not have the $65 million we need to start the process and implement that law through its first year. Meanwhile, the agency is promoting new technologies like five g, cellular and low earth orbit satellites that might address our broadband problems someday. But for now, most seem to agree on one thing. Especially these days, the Internet should be considered a necessity.
Death sentence overturned for Boston Marathon bomber
"A federal appeals court overturning the death sentence of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in the Boston marathon bombing reactions now ranging from some who say they saw it coming to others who say that they were shocked. W B Z T V's Christina Rex talks with those most closely impacted by the terror attack. I don't think Austin deserves this tonight. She saw the devastating injuries firsthand. At Devo led the manhunt in Watertown as police chief Malita Aeryn. John Doe's husband, Carlos became a symbol of heroism after the attacks, and Rob Wheeler had just finished his first Boston marathon. He turned around to help save lives. It's pathetic. It's sad. It's just really. I just had enough. Now The decision is up to prosecutors toe, let Tsarnaev stay in maximum security prison or to go back to court to try and sentence him to death.

Austin Jochum on Bringing the Training Session to Life
"So why? Want to say this. So how it was there a better way to spell your last name then or would there be like Italic so I can have people pronounce it correctly when they read the headline here. Yeah everybody thinks like it's A. Job looks like Josh right here. But if you have really gonNA spell, we probably with a Y Y Y. Que you or something like that since last name just totally jacked up. The I I'm not GonNa lie when saw I think maybe it was when you asked me to. Be On your podcast dry your podcast before I thought it was Josh. So I apologize I just wrote in my little notes I put. Okay You M. so hopefully that eleven maybe that'll resolve things a little bit. So just for everyone out there that'll. Thousand my that was my iteration. And that's where we just have to get to a point as a coach and a company where people in the not to say. That's one of our goals. People say Yoga the right way yeah. Yeah. That'd be good. Creative Project Austin. So I know one of the things that I really like about looking at your work is I. Know that want to know you're really creative coach always love I know this is GonNa be an awesome talk and I was curious you did football I think track a you're into strengthening conditioning. What what was your formation in your years as a college athlete and then your choice to become the type of coach that you are now? Yeah and I think it's funny that you say I'm a creative coach because as a player I was anti creative like from from the very day one. Started lifting in high school with Olympic lifts like straight. Olympic. Style. Monday Wednesday Friday, all we did was clean and jerk clean snatch, and then maybe some bench presents watts and just the differ variation of that and. I mastered swore by those for so many years. That's literally the only thing I ever did. If. We sprinted if we did anything maybe some ladders we did but. The entire program was Olympic lifts swear by it was awesome in highschool got really strong at that. Thought that was the answer. When into my first year college at Saint Thomas Football Kaikan on the field first day we actually lifted before we went on the field we lifted and I was like smoking these guys like smoking on cleaner jerk like doing. More than a lot of seniors on their all I'm here I arrived I'm sweet a freshman. Football, we go to the practice that day and I I my mind was blown I had no idea was happening speed the game was different. Everything was different I'm move to like a robot out on the field and just moved terribly and I started the. To all right, what's happening in the weight room is not what's happening on the field and I need to find a way to bridge that gap and that started the full journey and I think it is a journey because then it was west side stuff on my. All right not the Olympic stuff. Now it's west side. Now it's the powerlifting. Now it's some box. Johnson plow metrics advance to my are still stuck in that weight reminds set of. Bands the bar now GonNa be faster and it helped a little bit I moved just a little bit better. But I think we're just because I was destroying my body a little bit less than the weight room and I still a little bit slower on the field and it was just this journey than it was bilateral to single lateral. Then it was traffic training and this this full hodgepodge of things but never fully breaking out of the weight room mindset never breaking into the movement onset and by the time graduated. At Saint Thomas I had some athletic success on the field and. But it was in a way of I forced myself into a mold of athletic success. I plays Nose Guard and my movement options were very small and I was watching other players and I was doing a job that was required to do doing his thing. I'm field that is required to do but the game move fast for me everything move fast for me I had. Very little movement options I had one may maybe one pass rush move and I was good at the pass rush move. But I didn't have a lot of options people next left and right and me that works out in quotation worked out a lot less than me that they had way more options and that's really where I started to dive into how can I get more movement options for myself? How can I move better? How can I give my athletes the ability to? Now that you have a huge output, you're able to lift a bunch of weight. You're able to sprint really really fast to do all these things. How can we give you options to do this? How can we give you? Can we slow the game down a little bit for you and that's Kind of a little bit of where we started the journey of where Rats Day and hopefully the journey continues for the next ten to fifteen years I can look back at this podcast. About Austin but that's kind of the
Palo Alto Unified Middle, High Schoolers to Get Later School Start Times
"Schools and high schools in California on a path to later start times. You may remember that Bill passed last year before all this stuff started. KCBS Keith Man Cockney reports for one school district on the peninsula. The pandemic is pushing up the timeline for the time change when the false school term starts, middle and high school students in the Palo Alto Unified School District will be starting their school days. It was like I'm era that it just like everything was in slow motion until they decided now, the roar becomes and as a roar came here, they came and they came and we would funny. Get back a little bit warn. And you know, guys have get back in the hills. We'll get back and say, wow, man. I mean, you know, what that was that was amazing. But you can't do that. Now, they because the social media. I mean, we're we're w is way more about the entertainment aspect of our of our hold industry. Whether it's giving money to the you know to all of the foundations. We do all the work. We do at WWE all the work. You did and all the ground road a wing tell about just wrestling. And we talk about an era of then eras that that set the tone for what we're doing. Why would Vince wanna buy some that wasn't successful? Why would he want to home the whole world if it wasn't successful in? He had vision of where he wanted to go. So then we are. I mean, it's just it's just it's just that simple. And we just, you know, you're you're much younger than me is is cool. But you know, just far we just you know, what I mean who would just dwelling in in the past. But the pets good you had if you ain't got no path. If you ain't got no Pac kit your kid. Yeah. But. I like, I I like talking about some of the heyday stuff that I grew up watching because along in that same and that same area of time. You know, I think magnum was backstage in address room, cutting a promo on telly Blanchard. I guess they were fixing to have a a mass yacht that US titled, and I'll be damned if only darned in in there in beat the hell out of him and Lisa I'm gonna bad way. And I know you. You magnum TA seemed to have a good personal relationship behind the scenes and somewhat of a protege of yours. How did you come to meet young? I think I think he he was the he was the next in line man, I chosen in because I had that much power to time, right? At time your booking behind the scenes in. But I mean, I had power to people with power, but then senior in myself, but an agreement put me into power, and I had it from Minnesota power. And then Vince junior came in of course, and then, you know, the I mean the power I mean, he unbelievable power that I didn't even realize that the time that I had but with magnum he was the children won't even the golden boy before the accident. They love the way for Jesus Christ barrel. Chest good-looking, the here, the Mustang. Are very useful. And he just straightforward and never met away..

"So I saw some pretty bad stuff, and we were at Staples. And it was looking pretty good. You know, I started getting a little bit of shine. I was feeling pretty good. And you in classic Austin form you actually came kid. I'm doing pretty good everything going, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's actually going pretty good like programs. Do a great and everything's doing great. And we were at the gateway. So you could see inside the arena of the staple center. And you just said to me. Hey, what's out there? We mean a black curtain. Bit. When else performance sold out arc you good talk. And then he just walked away. And it was a subtle hint to no matter how good you think you're doing you can always do better. And you you were you were so good. Now, we're trying to stick it up your ass. No, no. I did not make because I've heard della star before and I didn't mean it as an insult, and it wasn't taken us. And so that's the thing like. A lot of this business is false motivation. They'll Pat you on the buds he'll get match. Good match. Right. When he come through guerrilla, they'll pay on the, but the great I wish there was more motivational reinforcement like that. Because that day. I was like, you know, what I'm not quitting until this place is sold out. And when it's sold out where do in LA calcium. And when that sold out San Francisco's ball like you get the you get the perspective of men you. You may be doing good, but do not ever rest do not ever settle as long as you're riding. This train. Your goal is to make it better period. And that that's I took that on anybody in anywhere can apply that to their life. I honestly, I think so. And you say I walk around with a smile on my face. I do because I try to take that approach to to life in general it I've seen guys in this business come and go with bad attitudes. And it just it consumes them, which sucks, and it rots the people. Around them, which equally sucks at this is this is a pretty good gig. And I've seen guys come in with that. Okay. Attitude. Also, a little TV time develop bad attitude because big Ed, and they think okay now sudden, you know, that's one of the things that I just cannot stand to see a can't get a little television time and all of a sudden head gets big. And then lose perspective. You should never ever lose perspective in anything, you do and people you pass on the way up. It's going to be passed on the way down man, always treat. Somebody the way you want to be treated. Yeah. What respect and we all as human beings. We have good days. Bad absolute let it's totally have a bad day. But just swimming upstream, the whole way, I just I don't understand it. We get to go out there. And it's a greatest job at world beat sitting in a cubicle now. And I mean, I love it another. But great great memories from montage of business. I always talk to you always talk to you about longevity at kid. I don't think you need to take this bump. Right here. Well, I know and. High risk books. Yes. Because you want to entertain the people. Yeah. And so how you fill in physically. I mean, you still left in heavyweight she has had a PR on a bench. I mean, you look like a million bucks. So you take good care of yourself house. The body feel it I'm doing the best. I can I feel great. I'll be turning thirty seven and April. I know you just had a birthday. That's probably why back. Congratulations on your birthday birthday on yours. Coming up thirty seven is your very young business your veteran. I mean you've been in business a long time. But that's still meant you're even more peak years our head of you. Yes..

"Join Chris Horwood del in France each week as they cover the biggest stories in sports with shows like tales from the association the underdog sports NFL show, and you're wrong. And here's why can't rely on draft picks. A lot of times with quarterback. There's fortify quarterbacks drafted in the first round that are complete bus checkout. All these exciting shows on the underdog sports network every week on podcast one or wherever you get your favorite podcasts. This is the Steve Austin ship. Actually about other than cars. I mean, I I know I know we as we talk is a lot of times, you would just go to your, Jim. You got a bad ass jump down in Florida. And you said you spend a couple of hours training. I get that. I know you love the iron. But but what else do you do when John CENA is not working and you work in damn near twenty four seven every single day because you love to be on the road. What what what would you let us? Do you do honestly, Steve it's going to sound extremely one dimensional, but I know grazie older gentleman. That's just as one dimensional. It's going to sit at grill position tonight. I think about this. I think about. WW as a whole not just me as a performer because this this is a very ego driven selfish business, and a lot of people think of it from their perspective and not the perspective. I think of ways we can we can better the company better ourselves. I'm taking Mandarin in my off time to try to expand our markets in China because with all that going it's tough language, but we don't have enough development in China. We should be better over there. We should can't over there. And they love entertainment the economy is thriving. They've developed a strong middle class strong upper middle class, they love entertainment and WW translates language. But for some reason, they don't they don't understand what we do and for us to be able to get into a market like that. And to be able to tour over there to be able to be televised over there to be able to bring the network over there that would be an enormous financial boost to the to the machine. So in my off time, I lift I drive around from the gym to my house, and I'm trying to get us into China. I guess so how's the the Mandarin lessons going down the road? Are you? I've been studying for about a year now in my off time. So it works out to be on average two to two to four hours a week that dig this back in the day when I was living in Atlanta, Georgia started going back and forth, Japan, I figured I'd get the big idea and get one of them sixteen cassette language kits. I listened to one cassette. I could say CMO say in something else. And that was all I got. So with this process. What's your what's your you got an instructor work? Do. I'm not good with the cassettes with the web. Like they wanna do. Facetime stuff. I'm good like this talking with someone because they can get a feel for me. They can get a feel for what I want out of the language how I to communicate. So I have a good tutor, and we meet whenever I can it's it's not much time. So it's going to be I think in a year, I would be the equivalent of like. Achieving like, a freshman education in man's regret. So it's going to take a long time got you. But China will always be there. I like I said I keep saying I do this you over to work in man in here in your bus. And I talked to you on occasion. Huff we talk, man. I every couple of months, I'll be listening. It's not long enough because you always have insightful advice. I remember a store between you, and I just and it's always been oddly enough, you've always just been kind of a ship passing in the night. But I remember after it'd been awhile since you've been back which around and I was on smackdown. And I had seen the worst of times like when everybody was gone, and they brought up the Lovie w class, and we were doing, you know, events in DC was seven hundred people paid, right?.

Our first of many coming up over the next. Couple of weeks has Steve takes us break this one. We're starting off with episode ninety one original air date, February eighteenth two thousand fourteen and it's none other than John sina the face that runs the place John CENA on the Steve Austin show and to my surprise. So just a quick inside bid. Here. I've only been producing Steve show for maybe the last year and a half. So I was not working on some of these episodes that I am bringing to you. So a lot of these are brand new to myself. I have not actually a chance to hear some of these. And I originally thought that this episode was the Steve Austin show podcast. That was on the dough to be network that Steve did with John. And it is not it is actually an episode of the Steve Austin show wet Steve did on a tour bus with John. I believe it is John's tour bus this is around the time if you remember elimination chamber twenty fourteen it's right before that John just lost Randy Orton at the war rumble, and he's a indie elimination chamber coming up, but the Wyatt's have something to say about that and cause him to be eliminated in the elimination chamber that year John goes on to face Bray, Wyatt at wrestlemainia thirty in New Orleans. "That's what makes you you with that uniqueness of understanding how how much of an influence you are on this business to this day. And yet you can still understand what it's like when you first started. And I think again, it doesn't matter what you say to people that are does the they'll always remember how you made them feel, and that's that's not everybody has that quality or or ability to that. That's a huge thing in wrestling's communicating with people communicate communicating with your fans with your audience in it during the nineties men, you you took it by storm. Once you became stone, cold Steve Austin and wants things fell into place. My god. I gotta work Vince McMahon think about that. But I can tell the story real quick about thins because we used to train he wanted trade. Sometimes. Eleven o'clock at night just for this match with you, and he was going to get juice. I don't know if it's the first match or second match, but I had to make his blade that night. So I'm making Vincent man's. I played in his life. Hey, and he's working with the hottest superstar in the business at that time. So he gets used during the match and I come back, and I would never go into his office. Never after unless I was really needed to go. There didn't need to go. The I was so happy for him that he got used blade that night. And I went back of what a job that was great. He goes, I didn't never had to use it. What do you make? 'cause no he cracked me hardware look here on top of his head. He hit him with a chair splitting wide open. But you know, that was kinda guy. He was he was ready for the play. But once once you are way to me didn't need it. A guess you're together was trying to advance back in the day when I was working with him. I'm the guy, man. Are they ever knew that all what what you did my go to the studio? And yet it again, you know, I was I was just moved to Stanford to not not that law. Maybe you're two years. I guess whenever you work with him. I don't I don't remember the year, but we would come to the studio with that ring was the hated to serve because all the bumps but sometimes. I would want to train eleven o'clock at night because he'd been working all day. So I was I was at you know, I was on and time back then and our boss, and in fact, we even for the cage match retook the bump on the table. He measured that out at the studio, and he got up on the cage, the cage on the ring and everything we measured it, and he put the vote pads and everything else he took the bump. I think he took it like three times. And I've got it got it. And sure enough during the match he bounced on Dale didn't break, but that was that was a Memphis at the pyramid. And I remember that Saint Valentine's day massacre. And he told me about taking it bump, and I didn't it didn't have any knowledge of it until that day, and as okay, so you'll here's how it's going to go down, and I was going to balance his head off at top that cage, and he was in a spring back and landed at table now had he landed just six to nine inches further and towards the center that table in that sweet spot he'd have been just fine, but it didn't kicked his heart as they could. But he landed right on to edge at spine of that table. Which is the worst. Place that you could land, dude. I was up there on that cage. I saw his head whip down. Like, I was watching it in slow motion right node, like the sale myself on his bump was like shoot. I'm thinking Jesus Christ. Are you shitting me this just happened?.

Kristen just came in from the valley what was about one hundred three or four degrees, and ain't that hot air marina del Rey, but it's still hot. We just got back from a trip down there to Texas to say Hello to my family and catch up with some friends stop by and we drink much cold, ask beer, some wine and a couple of Margaritas and had a damn good time. It was a good visit down here in south Texas. We were down in EDNA the home of the EDNA Cowboys and EDNA cowgirls, and I'll be damned the WalMart just went out of business down there. EDNA, Texas as bull. Shit. WalMart came in there, put everybody else out of business mom and pop stores, and they closed down the WalMart, and you gotta go to the Super Bowl. Art that is twenty five miles away in each direction down highway fifty. Nine. That's bullshit. Anyway, I got a chance to enjoy some damn good Mexican food. I think the Motors about to get put in that thing down there in El Toro, Texas and fixed ship thing out here to California. Hopefully and I think I'm gonna pay debt car right now. It's a maroon car with two black stripes across the hood and down the back deck. And I believe I'm going to change that car into a Cortes silver and two black stripes and not use z. Twenty-eight stripes that were specific to the nineteen seventy four year model Camaro and I'm thinking about, yeah. Wigging out the three fifty. It's a numbers matching car. I'm thinking about going LS motor with a four hundred to four hundred fifty horsepower. I will keep it an automatic annum. Looking forward to get that project done and start the transformation. I haven't messed with a car and a long time and going back to my seventy-one Firebird formula seventy three Camaro some of the other hot rods ahead way back in the day, and I'm looking forward to getting his project going and cruising around mean streets in Los Angeles, and I'm probably going to end up driving cardinal Vata where that's where I will enjoy that thing. But anyway, good trip down to Texas. It's good to be back here in California. And just in two days, we are headed to the silver state heading down to the broken skull ranch. Two point zero for hopefully about two weeks. I know we're gonna make week ten days, but hopefully we'll get a chance to spend a couple of weeks down there when films videos, Radna buggies, four wheelers, Madera back down. I'm really enjoying that show just kicked into season two. They're starting to plan. A bunch of seeds will come up later episodes. I'm assuming so it's very enjoyable show a love. The fact that long Myers Ravin at ninety four, four Bronco and looks about like mine other than the fact that has got a maroon strap. Mine's got a silver stripe, and I'm gonna give me some wheels online. That's mother-in-law project. I'm working on some different wheels. I got the shitty stock wheels that they came with and I'm gonna upgrade knows probably while I'm over Nevada, taking care of business. But anyway, mid teddy shooting the breeze for about an hour and a half..
