"Playoffs. So like I get like they're in like this is the ultimate rock and a hard place situation in some ways, especially dealing with unpredictable Florida weather and the size of this racetrack. I think that they're going to have to say, here's how we're going to attempt to address this or fix this, but maybe with the understanding that, as you're saying, there's only so much we can actually do. We can really do. The conversations are underway about, okay, what's the next step? And I know they're underway. As they should be. Like, what is the next step? Are there sensors? Are there how sensitive do you make the sensors? I know, these are things I really don't want to dive too down the rabbit. So here's what even makes it more difficult. I've stood at racetracks before with my son racing in a late model, or a cane in car, or a truck, hell, we're at Martinsville, I think it was pretty sure it was Martinsville. And I'm getting wet. And they're racing like hell, and nobody and I'm like, they gotta go to college and they just. Fun. Nobody had any problem. I don't know. How do you put other than if you get any moisture at all? You got through to caution. Other than that. I don't know, man. This is a complicated thing. There's just been so many times we raced when there was moisture in the air. Even a little bit of rain. Other than just saying, okay, we're going to put some sensors out there, and if we get any moisture at all, we're dropping the caution. I don't know. It's just to your point, I remember a race that Denny Hamlin won a Martinsville in 2008 when it was a missed for three hours. And you guys, you were in that race. You just got through it. It didn't go on it. It didn't affect the track enough. But yeah, yeah, you probably should have. No recollection of that race. You should remember every risk itself in Virginia that's a Cup race. Just kidding. All right, well, I don't want to know that now. We had a caution. We had a caution. And then there was controversy about how the cars get lined up. Yeah, you want to come in. We have to comment on it. We can't just gloss over this. Have at it, man. I know that you got some feedback on this. So have it. So I understand a race fan at home. We have a lot of rules. And they're confusing. Racing is more complicated than people realize. It's not just cars going in circles. I mean, in fairness, they're confusing. Football is confusing too. I don't understand half of that. When a caution comes out, and you can't maintain speed, they don't take a snapshot picture of you. And you're stopped in a racetrack or going slow on the racetrack. And people keep maintaining reasonable speed and they put that guy back in front of you. That's not how this works. Right. So you use loop data, you go to the latest loop, but if you can't maintain pace, then you lose that spot, and you blend in wherever it is that you blend in. And I don't know why drivers and teams don't know that rule. I think it's got confused because in their heads, that was the finish of the race. And they were thinking, that caution locked the race in because it was over. It froze the field, NASCAR is going to look at video in the term where everybody was at the time of caution. But that was caution. It was a caution. Right. It wasn't the start finish line. If you go across the start finish line at the end of the race, that's how to check it. That's absolutely. That's black and wherever you are. Yeah, that's absolutely that's black and white. The caution to your point is reasonable speed. And it's not reasonable speed for like, sorry to the four car. It's not reasonable speed for like 30 feet and then you stop when you hit two cars. It's reasonable speed. If you have the three car would have had to slow down. Grind is brake, slow down, the four comes out ahead of the three. The four can maintain pace, even with the rector race car, the four is the leader. Right. I want Darlington with a car that was wrecked. Same damn thing. It started raining. They didn't get the caution thrown in time. I'm leading the race. Big wreck off turn four. I plow into the wall. I mean, it's destroyed. I'm stood in the gas, kept that thing going. Maintain pace, got to the pace car, I was able to stay behind the pace car. I wanted to race. If I would have pounded the wall, it could not have maintained pace, I wouldn't have wanted to race. That was 19 99 or since 19 99. Darlington spring race 98. Nothing's changed. Right. The loop data is the loop data. But nothing changed in regard to maintaining pace. And I just think that people got in their head that this was the end of the race. So you're going to lock me in wherever I am. But that's not how it works. And so there's not a conspiracy theory against Kevin Harvick. Was not a conspiracy theory to get Richard Childress the three car in victory lane. It was the rule. It was the rule. And oh, by the way, when they restarted the race, the four was out, and none of it really ended up mattering. It just was something to talk about for a few years. But that doesn't even matter to me. There was no controversy. If they never would have got going back green, there was no controversy. The only controversy is if people don't know the rule. Well, that's not a controversy. That's not understanding what happened. The controversy is two drivers driving in the corner and crash each other and one guy comes out and you're like, well, he wrecked me. You wrecked me controversy as NASCAR changing the policy. Controversy is throwing the caution before it rains. So I just, I should know better than look at social media. I'm looking at social media and I'm getting all this. But Jeff, my God, but Jeff my guy, but Jeff my guy, and I'm like, so I applaud Scott Miller for coming over. During that broadcast live, here's how this works. The one that you said that I didn't, I thought money did up a little bit. It doesn't matter if you're in the wreck. Even if Austin Dillon hadn't have hidden anything. And he came in there and he had to slow down to keep from hidden something and somebody else. Crashed up against the wall, it comes out in front of him and they're able to maintain pace, that crash car is still the leader. As long as he can maintain pace. Right. What about being in the record or not? It's about being able to maintain pace. All of that will be written into Daytona lore. Certainly another memorable race. And you'll remember it. Yeah, and that brings us to a quote today about Daytona. It's our motor mounts of the race presented by eBay motors. This is a new feature in which we talk about a notable quote from the race. This one was from Austin Dillon, Austin Dillon was asked Peter strada TSA sports Austin in 2019. You were leading this race and then the big rack happened that ultimately gave Justin Haley the way and just how full circle is the moment now three years later you got the win because of a big rag also in turn one. You know, that's actually very funny about Daytona and I didn't even think about that, but I've always thought about a tour down the fence one of the worst records in NASCAR history come back when the Daytona 500. 2019 I did feel about his confidence you could feel out front leading that pack and it's cool how this place just, I don't know, there's something about Daytona and when you pull through the tunnel, things just happen here. It's exciting place and always create some kind of drama for sure. You've been going to Daytona for a very long time. What's your take on the world center of racing? It's place in NASCAR history. I mean, it really is people talk about Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but as you just heard Austin Dillon say, when you go through the tunnel Daytona, it's that similar sort of feeling. To me, Daytona and Darlington are the two hallmarks of NASCAR and what makes Daytona so crazy unlike Darlington is that anything can happen. Darlington, if you look at the list of winners, it's almost a Hall of Fame. Offers much more opportunity for strange things to happen. And it's just, you know, ever since the restrictor plate or the reduction in speed, it already is you

"Is willing to sit down and Austin and saying, it had the tough conversations with him. I think Joe Gibbs willing to sit down with his grandson, have the tough conversations, but I don't think there's, but you got to go above and beyond, because all those people in the shop, unless you're working on that specific team, everyone else, which is by far the majority of people. They have to know that everybody's got the same shot. Or it will erode, it will erode and it won't work long term. And also important, I think, that with Tyler Reddick having two wins this year, Dylan now has one. I think probably maybe a little bit more belief in the number three Chevrolet. The way that Austin doing won this race, this was his fourth cup win, but I think it's fair to say the other three had a few question marks. The Coca-Cola 600 was a mileage win. He won the Daytona 500 and I want to take anything away from that. But he essentially knocked out the way on the final lap to do it, and then he won Texas a couple of years ago on strategy. So Austin Dillon was asked about Parker's Fox force. Is there any extra satisfaction to winning it? If they had called it, there would have been a little bit controversial. Yes. Win. Is there any extra satisfaction to winning it kind of straight up? For sure. I've got four wins in the Cup Series. Each one of them mean something different to me for different reasons. But the Texas one where I had multiple restarts and had to win and cross the checkered flag was probably one of the driver standpoint. One of the most important wins to me and then now this one too is to go through all that and to be able to be, I guess, clutch in a moment that mattered is important. I mean, tell us in all sports, right? It's to deliver when you've got the opportunity to deliver and this year I've had some moments that were very close, Charlotte being one of them. I mean, I didn't sleep a lick after the 600 just knowing that we had put ourselves in a position with a tire advantage. I made a heck of a move and everybody was like, man, that move was amazing. Blah blah blah. I mean, I thought that I kind of gave that away in the turn three because I over drove it. And I got loose and then it hadn't done that the whole race, but I was carrying a lot more speed than I had the whole race. So that one hurt me and it kept me up a lot of time, so and I've always kind of pride myself is to finish races when I have the opportunity. And today it feels good to finish it off. This win and what it means for Austin doing square Jeff. Not just the fact that he was able to regain the lead as you detailed, like after losing her on the restart and essentially put things back to where they were before the red flag. But also just kind of seizing that moment and showing like, hey, I can win in the Cup Series. I can do this. So it is important. The interesting thing about Austin is you want to truck championship. You want to experience championship. He's won the Daytona 500. He's won the Coke 600. Coke 400 Coke zero 400. Fair amount of prestigious events. Some pretty big pressure situations, which, again, I don't want to take anything away, but at the same time, people are going to understand. He's not had the success that some other people have had. He's also, I mean, I'm not so sure that they're equipment as good as Hendrick motor sports either. So, you know what I mean? So you're always going to be judged. The kids, grandkids, siblings, of people in the sport are judged differently than others. It just how it is. I was judged differently because I race award. Jeb is judged differently because his dad raised. Austin is judged differently because his granddad owns the race car. How many times have you heard people say tag gives only has his ride because of his grandfather? A crap. That's the only reason he has his ride. But the reason he's kept his ride is because he's succeeded, right? So guess what, Kyle Petty got his ride because his grandfather. They'll earn hard got a ride because of his dad. Go through the Hall of Fame list. Allison's go through it and look, there's a lot of people that did this and had success because of their parents. We're in it first. And they have to do it on their own. And so Austin is going to be judged because his grandfather owns a race team. And he drives a three car. He drives the three car. And those two things collectively put a tremendous amount of spotlight on him. And he has not performed the way Tyler Redick this year has outperformed Austin. Last year, they were pretty pretty close. But this year is outperforming. Can Austin Dillon be the anchor driver can he be the anchor driver? That's the question, or will Richard Childress need to bring in someone that has as much talent as Tyler Redick to help carry that team. That's the pressure on Austin Dillon. And it's not without a tremendous amount on the line. Austin, there's no way also doesn't feel that pressure. He works his ass off. I know he's got a great work ethic. He's won races. He's one championships. He's under he's underappreciated at my opinion. I'm not saying he's Jimmy Johnson, but he's underappreciated. Listen, I never

"Able to make the right moves at the right time. To get close, you know, me and Noah being right there behind Austin and then went on to just move on the two. It was kind of perfect timing for me to get around. No, I and the two both and then get to his back bumper and make sure that anyone coming for the three is gonna have to wreck the 8. So that was what Tyler Reddick soccer. What was the roller skating thing when they roller Derby? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It's a good way to look at it. I haven't thought about that. So the other thing is that, you know, that says to me, the Tyler Reddick has the wherewithal and the self awareness that I, even though I'm leaving Richard Childress racing, I drive for Richard Childress racing. And the respect that he showed on Sunday to help RCR get another car in the playoffs is a sign of his character. Now I know that Richard is upset because he's leaving. That's not a character flaw. It's not a character of law to make a decision that you think is in your best interest for your career. That's not a character fall. You can have a disagreement. About it. But it doesn't mean you're a bad person. And Richard's not a bad person either. I know Richard really well. Richards are really good person. But feelings get hurt. And moments like that is a good reminder that Tyler Reddick understands his place, Tyler Reddick, respects RCR, and Richard now, after all that's happened, can now look at talent Reddick in a different light. And I think that's good for the future of talent red success, assuming something crazy doesn't happen, and he doesn't leave at the end of this year. That goes a long way. To helping that team. So a lot of things happen for RCR on Sunday afternoon, not just Austin Dillon winning that race. In my opinion. And I've said to you before, I think Richard Childress, the best thing he can do for his company, is put as much effort as he can into that 8 car to win as many races as he can between now and the time Tyler Riddick leaves because all that Richard Childress is doing is recruiting the next driver. The next crew chief, the next tire changers, the next sponsors, all that stuff. That's what he's doing with that 8 car. And how do you do that, right? You win with it. And I think a lot happened on Sunday that was a really positive, very, very positive RCR. No, it's a really good point with Tyler Reddick slated to leave for 23 11 racing in the 2024 season. That clearly, as you note, surely that was recognized by Richard Childress that he is not forgotten that, hey, I'm in the Cup Series because Richard child was racing, gave me that ride after I went to this team and won the Xfinity series championship in 2019. RC is the guy who put me in the 8 car in 2020 and that's why he's going to 23 11 racing. So it meant a lot to Richard. I want to get your take on one more thing on that, Jeff. It meant a lot to Austin Dillon as well. He also didn't want to have this really interesting quote after the race in the media center. When Tyler made his decision a couple months ago, I called him and congratulated him. And for me, being a owner's son sometimes comes with caveats and I wanted to make sure that I had nothing to do with the reasons that he was leaving. And when I called him, I was like, hey man, I'm just making sure I've been a good teammate to you. And he was like, no, you've been an amazing teammate, a love working with you all soon. I love me and Alexa both really enjoy being around you guys. And I'm like, well, look, man, congratulations on your deal. Let's go try and win some races for RCR over the next year and a half. And for me, I was in none of his negotiations, talks or anything. So it was more like he's been in a way inspirational to me to pick up my game because he's got so much speed and he shows it constantly. So not only is this really good, I think you're right for the company, but the relationship between these drivers, not that we question it, but obviously it's solid. It's important. Austin is aware. He has self awareness too. That with being Richard Childress grandson, it's a different ball game, and he always has to fight and Richard always has to fight the perception of favoritism, the perception of those things. And Joe Gibbs will have to fight it with his grandson. It's natural. People are always getting this. He's getting that. And they've got to go, they got to double down to show people that we're not showing favoritism. And if you are making decisions, it's because it isn't the best interest of that car, not that driver, because he's my grandson. Difficult decisions have to be made. And you just have to make sure when you make it on them, you're making them for the right reason. It's not for family. I don't think Richard Childress is cut from that cloth.

"Actually gets passed by Austin Cedric, who ends up leading the next 13 laps and before Austin Dillon's able to pass him with three to go. He makes this maneuver Jeff in which he gets to him and then in turn one he makes kind of light contact. Austin said, it just kind of happened. I was kind of planning on getting a bigger run than that before. And pulling out to the right. And I figured that the two was going to be a sitting duck because they were going to go with me, the Chevy's wood. And then we'd race it out from there. But he just kind of got loose as I got to his back bump for that time into one. And I'd kind of give him that same shove. I don't know if I just caught him a little more momentum that lap than the others, but when he got free, I just kind of moved up the track. So I want to say this was controversial, but it was kind of different from what we normally see with a pass for the lead at Daytona. It wasn't a bump and run like a short track. But it sort of looked like that a little. So let me back up one second. Yeah. So I thought there was actually three moments. I want to add one to it. So on the restart, you mentioned he had the lead and got passed. Yeah. He fell back like fourth. Right, right. And then he got down the back straightaway. They got to run. The 77 car was behind him with Landon castle driving it. And I believe that Kyle Busch may have been behind him. He pushed a 77 77 push to three, and then when Austin got cleared himself with the guys on the outside, he had a decision to make when he got to when he got to Martin Truex Junior. And he instinctively just jumped to the outside and was able to clear him and then get himself to second. So that move that ability to get that momentum down the back and then get himself to second. Ultimately led to him being able to take the lead away and then you could see him start to fall back, you know, trying to slow down, slow down to get some momentum. Austin Cedric said in his post race interview, he was watching that happen and he was trying to drag the break and do everything he could to get back to them to not let them get momentum on him, but he wasn't able to do it. And then it's hard for me to say that Austin Dillon intentionally pushed him out of the way because how much pushing do we see at Daytona? Right. All the way around. So I'd like to think it's hard for me to imagine that Austin knew he could push him and get him loose and grind around him on the outside without pushing him and spinning in front of him and taking him out also. You know what I'm saying? I don't know, I don't know that Austin intentionally did that. I can't say that he didn't. Because there's so much on the line, but it's, yeah, I don't know. I don't know what happened there. I know he meant to hit him, but we see people all the time at Daytona, the Talladega. It's like you said, it's not like a bump and run at other racetracks. I don't know how you would have known what the outcome was going to be by pushing a guy into turn one. That's what stroke to me. And again, after hearing what Austin said, he described it the way you did, that it wasn't like he meant to give him that shove. That's just what he'd been doing the whole time. And he just sort of slipped free of him and went up the track. And Austin cindric said that I got hit by another race

"Some races in their circle, this place is that, you know, we want to go out there and have a shot and this weekend's a good one. Won the truck race in Nashville and been competitive in the Xfinity series in Nashville. So we've got ten races to try and figure out a way to lock ourselves in and some good ones mixed in there that we can compete well at. So we're pretty much just focused on trying to get a win. You know, points that can happen. I've been on the outside looking in. I've had two solid seasons back to back. I feel like from a point standpoint and still outside looking in. So pretty much just focused on one thing and that's trying to go to Victor lane. You mentioned that maybe points are not the focus right now. Austin, I'm just curious, you know, last year we saw you sort of in a different sort of battle with your teammate where you guys were buying to get into the playoffs and it was really only going to be one of you. Does that sort of change the pressure even though both of you probably have to find a way in through wind that between amongst the teammates a little bit in terms of that you just have to focus on winning it's not so much you got to out point each other, kind of like it was last year? Yeah, you know, I think some of the last three races of the year I'd say we were trying to copy each other when it came down to strategy. And it kind of took some of the things that we could have done. I think we were both really fast at the end of your road course and we were kind of staying late on stages to get stage points and running one, two at the end of stages, but setting ourselves back from a standpoint of having a shot to win. So this year, a little different when you look at those points totals and there's always that opportunity to have a really solid ten races and make up a lot of points ground but with only four spots available. We got to do more our job as a group at RCR to work together to put one of us in victory lane. If that strategy, staying out, being aggressive and protecting each other as much as we can to figure out how to be leading on the last lap. We've been oh so close. I mean, 600 Fontana this year, Martinsville had a good car. So three opportunities, hopefully we get a three more in these last ten. Austin, we sure appreciate you taking the time. I know everybody's excited to see your new show Austin Dillon's life in the fast lane Thursdays on USA Network 9 30, but man, we're excited we want to see you back in victory lane, especially in these NBC races. "You. Bruton Smith in your lifetime has always been there has always played a huge part of racing, tell us your thoughts today. I think it's a very sad day. And I've said this before. Because he was that connection still to the beginning of the sport. And I listened to Jerry talk a little bit and, you know, we seem to go back to 90 or 95 or lighting Charlotte and things like that. Listen, rudin Smith was there and the very, very, very beginning. Bruton Smith, he taught Jerry talks about pushing bruton Smith pushed the old France senior. They had the same vision. They had the same thoughts about the sport. They had the same place they wanted to support to go. Bill France went in one direction and brute and went another direction. But they came back together in the 60s when he built Charlotte. He has meant so much to this sport. And especially those early, early years, when we're talking in the late 40s and early 50s and end of the 50s, that's when bruton Smith had a huge impact on the sport that still reverberates through the sport today. It's not just the racing facilities. It's not just the racing facilities. And I think we lose sight of that sometimes. I think the thing is and I've said it earlier. There's been a lot and I say a lot. There's been a number of great men who have come through this sport. But this has been very few visionaries. And bruton Smith may have been one of the greatest visionaries that this sport had, and it goes all the way back to the 40s. It's not the 70s, it's not the 80s, it's not the night. It goes all the way back to the 40s and the 50s. So for me, he was my connection to Lee petty. He was my connection to buck baker and the Curtis Turner in those guys who in turn were connected to my dad were connected to me. So for my family from the petty family, we send our sincerest condolences to the Smith family because it is honestly a sad sad day for people who have known him our whole life. Parker, let's go to you from a different perspective of a younger driver, what did bruton Smith and his legacy, how did that impact your career and understanding of NASCAR as a whole? Well, I just think he was one of those guys that you knew when you saw them at a race track or you saw or heard stories about him. He was one of those architects of the sport as we know it today, right? And I always am fascinated by that. And I think as young drivers have come to the sport, you kind of get exposed to certain people you've seen on TV and you've heard their names and you've read about them. And then it's real. You're meeting that person in person and you're suddenly in the sport that they built that you've been watching from afar. For me, bruton Smith was just absolutely one of those integral architects of creating the sport into being a sport. I wanted to go into, right? That I wanted to be a driver and I wanted to race at his tracks at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the 600 at Bristol Murphy. I wanted to be there and you go and you watch some of the older races and some of the documentaries about the sport and you see the name bruton Smith consistently, right? As a Kyle alluded to, he was so integral, especially in those early days to driving stock car racing to becoming not just something in the southeast, but to go towards becoming a national mainstream sport that people were watching from all over the country and even the world that paying attention to. And I just, I love meeting those people and hearing the stories about those people because as you become a part of the sport and you get into it and you have the privilege of getting to race and be one of those new names in the sport, it's really fascinating to go research and think and talk to those people. And so it's just a very sad day as Kyle alluded to to lose someone like that that has been so integral into creating a thing that we all love so dearly and knowing that they were just instrumental in making that happen and I love some of the quotes I've been reading from bruton that basically say I just love this sport so much. I wanted to contribute. I wanted to find more ways to contribute and those are the people that do as Cal said create it into something that maybe other people couldn't see. They're the visionaries that make it into what we have now. And so he definitely fit that bill and it's a very sad day for the sport to lose him. Hey, Kyle, I want to bring you back in and go back to what you said in your first answer about how that Burton and Bill France saw NASCAR and viewed the sport in a very similar way. I think it's important that we touch on this that there was a creative tension there, right? As we know, a very flamboyant, very outspoken. He wasn't afraid to butt heads with NASCAR a little bit, but in a way that brought about a better NASCAR, right? For sure, for sure. I believe that. You know, I think if we go back, listen, this is a personal story for me. If we go back, my granddad would have won four championships and NASCAR, but.

"Race the Indy 500. I mean, this wreck happened Friday morning and the jets point and he crashed two more times during the weekend. Without having any surgery without just having that carbon fiber splint, stabilizing that injury, and he didn't re injure it any further. So I would presume they take some confidence from that fact that he's already crashed twice with this and didn't damage it further. Jimmy's going through that phase right now that all race car drivers goes through and he's going through it in a different series is that last year he didn't really have enough speed. This year he's finding that speed he's willing to push that issue and he's going to be in a little more impact because he's pushing that issue willing to cross that line. We hope we all do it. Try and jam in as many topics here as we can and back to the ty Gibbs fight hopefully for the final time this week. I thought Jeff gluck brought up a great point on his podcast where he said, if you're tie Gibbs, why not just own the role, Jeff? And say, you know what? I am that guy. And yes, I'm the grandfather's grandson, and I'm in the car. I'm never going to be fired. I'm always going to have sponsorship. I'm not going anywhere, and this is how I drive. I'm going to be here for three decades. Get over it. Why not just own that role? I know it's a lot for a 19 year old to handle. I think he does. I think he starts to and then he kind of backs out. Listen, I think he's in a unique situation. He has, he is earned the respect of his competitors from this performance. Period. Like he has. And I think in his eyes, that's what his deal is. If your competitors respect you. If you can look at your competitors and they know they're going to have to beat you. That's the acknowledgment that you're doing your job. Now, he drives for his granddad. But that doesn't make him successful. And he is and I believe in ties eyes, if I'm being successful, I'm showing that I belong here. And I think he is. I think he has shown he belongs. I think we're suggesting what you're getting at is should he turn heel at age 19 and be the villain. And where are the black cats for the rest of his career? I mean, you might want to check with coach Joe on that one for us because I don't know if he'd be so on board with that. And I think he'd probably want to have a say so. Right. How tie acted here. But I do think there's opportunity for him. We saw Kyle Busch kind of embrace that. He started to embrace a little more about a decade ago and he was early 20s. So maybe. About a minute left, Nate, the Roush Fenway Keselowski penalties were you talked about today by Scott Miller, had that line up with what Brad Keselowski had to say this weekend. It fairly well, Marty, essentially what Scott Miller came out and said was that there were rear fascia mountings that didn't fit with NASCAR's parameters. And this was done during the repair of that part. So NASCAR didn't like that and essentially to what Brad said that when they made this repair, it didn't meet NASCAR's approval. All right, fair enough. I feel like the garage area is okay with all that. Don't touch it. Don't mess with the car. That's what you're saying. A lot that we didn't get to guys, but obviously a busy week and obviously busy week coming up with Bristol as well. Happy Easter weekend, everyone. Enjoy the races from Bristol and around the motor sports world. Got me a lot of fun. We'll see you back here with motor mouse on Monday..

"It'll change and we'll get back to where we'll be locked into a fourth gear scenario. So if you do mess up, you won't have that recovery from the ability to be able to shift. But I think that the one thing that's cool about this car, the old car, we would have never been able to shift anyways because you would have been wheel hopping and it's just the technology of this car is pretty cool. So yeah, it's just something that we're learning and we can't be too upset with the race and that we've had this year. I think we've had some amazing finishes. Richmond and general, I don't feel like that's been a good race for kind of a while now. I think that's a track change that we can make. I don't know if we can add something to the track where there would be the PJ one BHT or the old sealer. I never got to run it on that, but a lot of guys that loved it. So, but from Martinsville standpoint, when it gets hotter at Martinsville, it's still going to turn into a better race when you come off the corner and you don't have any grip. Let's go to Marvin at 8 four four NASCAR NBC Marvin, you're on with Austin Dillon. Go ahead. How you doing, awesome, Austin. I'm doing good. Marvin, how are you? I'm doing pretty good, man. Great job on your third place finish at Martinsville. Buddy, we're heading to one of my favorite tracks. The last great dirty coliseum this weekend. How poised and determined are you to get yourself a victory for Richard Childress racing this Sunday Night? Well, I'm pumped up. Last year, I was probably too overconfident going to the dirt track just with my history and experience there. I tried to crew chief the car a little too much and should have just probably let my guys do their job. So this year that's my biggest thing is not to think about the race car and just drive it and tell them if it's tight or loose, kind of treat it like a short track like we have been the last couple of weeks and just communicate with the guys, tell them what I need and let them make adjustments that they feel will make the car the best, but I'm getting to run the truck race. I'm excited about that. I went and sat in the Tyler young truck today, so I'll have a little more time on the track. It's a little different configured than the past year, so hopefully that also I think that has been big this year for some guys to just get in to see the track, a little earlier than jumping on it for that first practice. So maybe it all turned into the race that we need to win this year. So I think we'll put on a good show. So speaking of this weekend, do you wish that maybe more steps were taken with the cup car to where you could have a mesh screen as a windshield versus the traditional windshield which they're going to go back to again this year? Yeah, you know, I think going back to a dirt track next year. It happened kind of late. If I could say anything to communication on that and a lot of things going on with the next gen car when it comes to parts and pieces and the more we build up that, I think we'll have more time to do a better job at going to these tests and being able to be more fluid on making it a change like that. I think it was mind-blowing for some of the drivers to think about a windshield not being in their car. I heard some pretty funny comments. Every weekend at a dirt track in the Saturday night guys race with bars in their cars, no chicken wire, but we would have had to make some modifications to make it a little safer, but I think our industry personally, they do a really good job of making changes fast and doing a good job of it, or it got so much talent in our garage, but possibly next year or if we go dirt racing again, we can do that and then maybe have a more attract that's has more moisture and creates a little better racing. I still think you can have some great racing with a slick dirt track. And I think one big improvement this year will be running the dirt race at night. At night, I feel that moisture come back into the track. As the cool coolness comes in from the mountains and stuff, you'll have some of the moisture bleed back and maybe the groove widens out a little bit. I got to agree though. I kind of like a windshield there, Jeff, when I'm doing a hundred plus miles an hour, I mean, I'm just calling me crazy. I was like, no windshield. Austin's got the plan though. He's trust me. It'll be a better race. So all right, man, enjoy the Bristol dirt race on Easter Sunday Night. Thanks guys. You guys enjoy the rest of the show and thanks for having me on. Yeah, man. Austin Dillon, joining us off of his top three finish at Martinsville. When we come back, Mike Bagley from SiriusXM NASCAR radio channel 90 will join us. We'll talk a little Martinsville. We'll also talk Bristol dirt as well when the bag.

"Bit differently at Fontana and Martinsville, one of those could have definitely brought home a trophy for us, but I'm really proud of the effort, like I said at RCR and feel good at the places we're at and like you said, we get to go back a second time and I don't think a whole lot is going to change from now and then. You know, there might be some changes on the short tracks with everybody complaining. But I think the biggest temperature is going to change a lot. We didn't see a lot of fall off. I don't usually get out of a race car and have to look for a jacket after a race. I got a jacket on immediately after Martin so it was cold. There was a lot of grip there, but some things will change, but ultimately the car will stay the same and I think we can use what we've learned and just kind of gain off that. Let's set up to Ohio where we find NASCAR, NASCAR, you're one with Austin Dillon. Go ahead, bud. Hey, Austin, good to be talking to you. I know you didn't get the results you wanted, but you was the only car that was passing cars out there. But what I want to know is so far with this new car and everything. And we see a race like Martinsville not traditional used to. How have the lines of communication been between you and the drivers and NASCAR early on what changes or how this car? How them communications and what you guys can make this car better. How has that been going? Well, I think Jeff and I both can talk to this. I bet it's the most fluid it's ever been from a communication line from NASCAR to the drivers and the drivers to NASCAR and the drivers just talking in general. There's a lot of talk and we want to make it the best for the fans and NASCAR that we can. Not only we want to make it safe for us. We want to make it a good show and I think we're really progressing each and every weekend when it comes to the communication lines in our sport. Yeah, we're in a great place in our sport right now, awesome because we've got the entire industry working together to make it better. I mean, everybody, I mean, the drivers, the NASCAR, the tracks, TV, the fans, we all want the best rates impossible. We all have the same goals. And really, I mean, the communication within the sport is just at an all time high. And with good communication and establishing some goals, you can make some stuff happen. And that's where the sport is right now. And I think it will only get better to communication and effort matters. And I think also part of that is, are they going to make changes at the short tracks? Do you foresee changes in these cars with enough voices, as you mentioned a moment ago that are raised up now after Martinsville? Well, I mean, I think the consensus is, you know, at least one thing will change and that was the gear that we took this past weekend. Shifting 1600 times is probably not ideal for us during the race weekend, you know, some guys don't feel like it promotes good racing and I think that'll change. I think that's just a lot. It's hard on equipment and it was challenging though. I think it was the same for everyone. It was a challenging thing to have to think about during the race. But.

"In the Chevy camp. I think Eric Warren moving over to that role was really pushed for that and done a good job getting all of us in line to be able to make our cars faster. We had to do something and I think, you know, like I said, a big push and effort goes to Eric Warren, Jim Campbell. Everybody at Chevrolet is trying to get us in line, so we would be, you know, the first one so with this next gen car out front and making it better, you know, RCR did a really good job from the beginning, have jumping on and being positive for this car and trying to make it as best we can instead of complaining and just go to work on it and make it drive better each and every weekend. Awesome, we're going to take a couple of calls from some fans here at 8 four four NASCAR NBC. We'll start with Chandler and Indiana Chandler. You're on with Austin Dillon. Go ahead. What's your question? Hey, there all how you doing, man? Doing good. Just hanging out in North Carolina. I'm watching a turkey walk around in my backyard. We have that same thing here in Indiana too, man. Austin, I know third place looks disappointing to you, but I feel like that's a great start. You know, to you and Richard Childress trace. And so look at how you guys have been this year with this new next gen car. What are you guys expecting later this year in 2022? Well, I mean, with what we've learned early on this season, I feel like we've had more opportunities as a team at RCR to win races this year. We're looking back in years past and my cup career, you know, I can count 5 opportunities in a year that I really feel like, you know, we'd circle those tracks and have a chance to go win. And now week in and week out, I feel like I'm more confident going to the track knowing that if we do our job set up wise that we can get ourselves to the front with an opportunity to win because ultimately winning races, you know, you don't have to have the fastest car every weekend to win. If you put yourself in position enough, you can take home a trophy. So the two top 5s that we've had a second and the third place and I think we could have probably had a second place if it goes green right there at the end or even a window. Things pay out a little bit differently at Fontana and Martinsville, one of those could have definitely brought home a trophy for us, but I'm really proud of the effort, like I said at RCR and feel good at the places we're.

"To be key and I just fund the tires a little bit there and couldn't get to put the pressure on Williams back bumper like Brandon Jones did the night before. So it was in my mind. I think I had the right strategy. I just did an execute it very well but looking back we were probably the second best car and most of the night we were probably the best car especially in the long run just William did a really good job and his team and our team did too. So I'm pumped about what's to come, but I enjoyed the race. I don't know what everybody's talking about. I thought it was a good one. I let every lap in New Hampshire one time. I thought it was awesome. Yeah. I still read today. That was the worst ever in the history of mankind. I'm like, so it's all the beauty is in the eye of the holder, right? But Austin, so one thing I've noticed about what you and your team have done is over the years, you guys have worked on all your weaknesses. You've done a ton of work on road courses. You've done a ton of work on short tracks. And that started to pay off, but how much work have you put in to get to where you guys are today? It's a lot and I did mention it after the race, you know, we've been grinding away at any type of opportunity we get to put the work in and the simulator, man, we've done a good job, you know, going back a couple years now, like you said in the road courses, going to coda and off season, running. Anything I can get in on a road course is really helped our program there. And I know when it comes to short track stuff, you know, I trusted the Chevrolet sim. I mean, they've done a really good job with our simulator. We're trying to build deltas that relate at the track. And it's paying off. It really is and we just put a lot into that and I think my guys are really good at creating with me during practice. I think that's one. If I look at any kind of strong point we've had this year, qualifying has been okay. It's not been great for us. You know, I struggle with getting out after qualifying and not being where I think we should be, but we do make really good adjustments going into the race to make our car competitive and we're always going forward instead of backing up. So staying positive is a big part of that mindset. Hey, Austin, you mentioned the Chevrolet sim and it's certainly not just the Hendrick Chevrolet as we're talking about. We're talking about track house. We're talking about you and Tyler Reddick at Richard Trevor's racing. How much is that increased emphasis that it seems like we've seen this year from Chevrolet in the engineering side and that strength in numbers with limited practice, you guys, I would think have more data to kind of sift through on the Chevrolet side, how much is it everybody sort of working more together for Chevy? You're definitely a togetherness in the Chevy camp. I think Eric Warren moving over to that role was really pushed for that and done a good job getting all of us in line to be.

I think i had him cleared and me and my spotter kind of spoke to that and you can see it right here in the video but We talked afterwards. And it's just it's man you don't get those opportunities very often so we were trying to take full advantage of that car. And that ron and i feel like later in the race you know the that move would have been completed and But yeah like you said For us that there's a we circle a handful race to the year that we have those opportunities in the good thing is that we had that opportunity. "Had abundance of speed. You know we kind. I worked on it for a long time. Had been set in a corner and just worked on four this race and and it showed but the good thing is in showing that We have the ability to do it again. we just we have to keep working on our cars use every week at our cr. Everybody knows about our ecr horsepower and how we bring that in the tractor every week but when you could bring a race car like that goes a long way alston first off. I'm glad you're okay. Man just a testament to not only the cars but your physical conditioning. So that's just a testament to that hard work and effort book forthright there that you make every single day of every week but looking ahead to daytona. Now it's not a total must win. You have to think that in the back of your mind is probably going to take that win to to move on but are are you just sat on go from the word as they dropped the green flag and try to get as many points stage wise and apply to pressure. Basically to your teammate. In that situation then going for the win to yeah for sure you know. I think if anything last week showed us being twenty eight points out. There's multiple times during that race that we were actually in the playoffs with a little bit of a cushion. Did looking back you know. It just keeps compiling being in that big wreck but going to daytona. Yeah we're going to have to start in the back but the first thing is just go forward Go to the front fastest as we can make the moves that we need to to put ourselves in states point scoring position and like.

"Car on edge and because the crew chiefs are going to make it so it's hard to drive by pulling all the down side of it so it goes faster and i think that's a connection that those few people they said. Why don't we just kind of race. It they don't. It's not like driving a car at talladega. It's not like that. It's way more difficult than that but having said all that pete. I'm curious what are you what. What sense do you get from the fan. Who's the favorite for these play offs. I mean who do you think you know. I'm sure it'd be a hinder driver. But but huda fans feel like i'm going to have the best chance to win this championship mike gut. Well i'd say to to answer that question. Jeff i think the majority want chase elliott. Because he's sport's most popular driver. I get that. But i think most everybody understands. How good kyle larson has been this year. But i'll tell you this. We talked about it a little bit this morning. The cautionary tale right is one year ago because the guy that one nine races last year kevin harvick didn't win the championship. So it's almost like you gotta get into these playoffs. Recalibrate yourself really. What happens in the regular season. I'm not gonna say it doesn't matter. But i think we've seen before once you get into the playoffs. You know two different animals. So i would say the ban still want chase elliott. Because he's the most popular driver. I think for the most people just understand. Just how. darn good kyle. Larson has been this year. And i know would say. He is certainly the prohibitive favorite to win the championship this year. But as we all know. Don't write that any. Because i don't know anybody. Is this gauntlet that we've the playoffs so real quick. We have a week left before the playoffs start shake that morning drive magic eight ball of yours. What are we gonna see at daytona. Who's in who's out. What's your prediction. The grid is gonna win on saturday night and just shake things up. I really think might be somebody outside of the sixteen and it's really going to change things around. Wouldn't that be great guys men. That's why nascar race at the end of the regular season at daytona. Year has been going me. Look we started it. With michael mcdowell winning dates on the daytona five hundred. I really feel like we're gonna get that story here so we go to work on monday morning. I think the are going to be buzzing about what we see saturday. I mean i'll admit. What did i. I got on a private talkback and i ask. Jeff jeff what exactly that. Just see right. It was shocking. Probably the best moment though is when we saw austin dillon. Climb out of that car. It really took my breath away joining us to discuss this and a lot more of the race yesterday. Pizza sony from the morning drive on sirius. Xm radio so pete first of all thanks for joining us. Let's touch base on that rack. That had to be a big topic. Good discussion with the fans today. Because i'm not really sure what i thought the window really was and you know i've seen myself. Obviously it's on happened alive yesterday. When i was watching it on nbc. And you know. I heard the jar brad. In i'll dean was purposeful by any means and some listeners. May be kind of felt that way. I don't think so. I heard the audio from austin apologizing. I know people to like this like the point. The finger because controversy is what people like in sports. I just use kind of one of those racing deals. I don't really see any fault on either side but also can't tell you that i'm not continue to scratch my head. Was they were so far past. Start finish line. That's what really struck me. There as you said carbon was. Okay do today. What i did yesterday. Which is gonna lick to my left at two drivers your tell me what happened because i couldn't figure it out yesterday. Know watching it yesterday. I said the only thing that i thought that austin really had a major beef about is why is brackets lousy. Still in my panel. This far down the straightaway. I had a conversation with brad little bit ago. And it all got a lot more clear to me. He thought because the information coming to him because the sem day that he says was a lap behind he thought he was coming to the one to go at the end of the state so he thought they had left to go so he was trying to hang on the right rear quarter panel pulling back to try to passing back in turn one so that all makes perfect sense because he was my world. Why are you so close. And then it's rough when you go below that white line. Those big bumps also car came up a little bit. I think you hit those bumps. it came up trying to sidra him to get back to and get into turn want to try to get back by and he thought they were coming to one to go into sage and after he told me that. I'm like oh well that clears it up now. Understand that makes way more sense understanding that information. Well it makes more sense. It's still is not good for also now veasley in that situation. Whatever may have happened pete. How about this aside from that. What were the fans talking about. As far as the racing this there was a big change to put this package together to make the racing more competitive only type tracks. Are they liking what they're seeing. It's interesting dj. Because i don't have the official tally but it really felt like with bagman either smarty. The majority of the listeners really like the racing mentally. It's different to your point. We know it's a different package. We know the horse our is is lower. We know that drafting become such a big part of this. You know we heard some of the drivers. Saying i mean the where the race ryan blaney saying. I really don't like the rates this way. But this is how you have the race but the end of that race. The last ten laps more just really really in my opinion a lot. Recently you guys have over. The years at michigan international speedway it was there was going from start to finish their yesterday where i personally thought it was a really good race so i think the fans again. A lot of them are split. I think social media kinda here. One thing. But i can tell us on sirius nascar radio. A lot of folks really liked that race and they were surprised. Rhyme lady was in position to win the race at the end on. The a lot of people had lady as their winter that race. But you know what he did everything he had to do to to victory lane and turned out that way for him yesterday afternoon. There and the irish shells i will say that What i liked about a dj was that it still took good cars. What i mean by that is sometimes you go to talladega. And i don't want to call it completely up in the air because that's unfair to the talent of the drivers who are out there doing job but immediately i think the equipment is more equal there than any other race track and michigan. It wasn't equal. There was still fast cars and slow cars. I think that helped me enjoy the race because not anyone could lead. You still have to fight your way to the front. Can i say this about what drivers say about the raising. And i appreciate you saying that. This is what we have to work with jeopardy. You'll remember back many years ago but as we were transitioning from by slot cars to radio tires. Did any of us like what a radio tire felt like. We had to work with me and ain't so we went job the best that we could. Well that's how i look at it. I mean they make the rules. Nascar does right. The drivers have to work with those rules are gonna drive over. They have to drive hoochies at the set. The cars.

Maybe it's not the preferred lane but you're giving yourself a shot to win and then we couldn't pass up the front row and got a great push by the eighteen. I appreciate. I appreciate kyle for you know sticking with the bumper to my back bumper there and giving us again shove into one and we had good enough car to hold those guys off the end even though it was really tough kind of playing the game and but surprised the team We were not very competitive. You know as far as winning car early on in the race. Gordon really went to work on it and i can't back those guys. We're handful cars lead They can get away from each other. you know. I don't see that at michigan. Usually you know we'll be bunched up on a restart but it kind of will spread out and it was just really intense racing. Made restarts super important. I mean they're reporting everywhere Each weekend but You know when you have to to really think about what lane going to choose how you're going to be committed to the guy in front of you Get up through the gears. Good and just do that. First lap or to clean Tried out to break your momentum really sex you up so very intense racing michigan People there and then they were really excited. But yeah crazy racing in there. I mean it's almost like speedway you know you talk about you know talladega and daytona. That place has so much grip if so wide near. There's so much on throttle time. You have to raise it kinda like speedway and we did a good job by spotted..

Truex spins and wins his second race straight in Richmond
"Back call off the playoffs in Copernican within the next eight he almost won the ruble last year. I think he's going to be a favorite going into Sunday at Charlie. I give him a better chance of sweep the round in the win the next eight. How about that I mean it's the nineteen we've seen all year? They were a little cool to start earthy year. They figured it out at Richmond went on to win for the next seven got a little cool again now. They're heating backup. This is surprising the first time in his career he's gone back to back which shocks shocks me but I think the significance really is that if you go back to the beginning of the playoffs he was the guy a little behind in playoff points which really is the key in round eight and around twelve and what these two wins do as fill that bucket up and I think that will come into play at some point in the next couple around so I do expect them to be aggressive at the wroval and try to fill that bucket a little bit
