Barnesy, by the way, is Austin Barnes, the catcher who, for whom a perfect game is just as important. You're written in lore as well. And we'll get to Austin Barnes in a second. But here's what Dave Roberts had to say. You know, I think there's a point where you just got to decide I got to decide to what end. And I'm as big a fan as anyone and a fan of Clayton and to see a battery of him and Austin throw a perfect game or a no hitter. I'm all in. But again, to what end or to what cost. And so every decision I make is for the best interests of the player. Their health and the ball club. Because there's a lot of people that are cheering for the Dodgers, not only just for today and claim that though no hitter, but for the Dodgers to win the World Series. And yesterday, the hard was in front of the Dodgers right in front of their manager and right in front of their pitcher. And they would tell you the hard thing was to take them out. The hard thing is to go for it. That's the hard thing. And they took the less hard way out because it's a long season. That's what makes baseball great. It is a long season. And what baseball needs is Clayton Kershaw to pitch a perfect freaking game. That's what baseball needs. Because we're still stuck too much on all the other crap that makes it feel like what we're watching is somebody's chess game with a slide rule. Not what makes it great. Maybe unfair to say it, but that's the way I'm feeling about baseball and that's what upset me about yesterday. The latest instance. Numbers pitch count, whatever. I mean, Kershaw said that his slider was beginning to fail. Okay. Let's see it out there on the mound in the 8th brother. Let's go. That's what makes it great is that it's hard and the hard decision taken them out, sure, very hard, would have been harder to actually try for it. Taking them out was the easy move. Let's go. Easy move. And I'm not going to be as eloquent as you are. It just sucks. It just sucks as a fan of baseball and a fan of cool, amazing once in a lifetime moment. It killed me to hear Austin Barnes say that's baseball. Is it really? Is it? Is it because it never used to be that way in my mind? No. Is it? Now it's baseball pitch counts and degrees and temperature and this and that, how do you feel? I feel good. Go for it. Got feel where is that anymore, man? It's still there. "I don't know it's it's not as good as maybe the last few years but maybe not terrible. We've talked up this series. We've talked up the rest of the season. I'm curious what each of you is looking forward to the most as we enter the stretch run closure. Honestly it's it's going to be a wacky. Twenty was the twenty eight games remaining in the season But yeah it's already. It has been just such a gift such a treat to have the giants dodgers play so well if you had asked me before the season you know if in september the giants and dodgers are jockeying for first place. I would've said wow. That's neat i guess. The dodgers really fell hard. I guess something must have happened. Where the dodgers were ninety one team. They had just a string after. String a bad logging. Wow the giants rebelled a sneak in that open window. It's not like that that the dodgers are awesome. You look at the lineup. And it's would they have maxed shire's now what like. It's they're so good and the giants. The idea that they can compete with. That version of dodger. Seem is just mesmerizing. It's it's just amazing to think that this giants team can even compete with that. So it's already been such a gift in j- i'm looking forward to figuring out how this shakes out. I'm looking forward to you. Know maybe no more sixteen any games. That game was very very odd. It was just so weird like and it seemed like both managers are trying to take years off of their fans. Lives most of that game. But no i think looking forward to hitting to see what this full-strength dodgers lineup can do over the next. Potentially two months that would be something I'm also perversely rooting for the dodgers. Keep using new pitchers because they're already up at that. So you have your harper's and you have your pieces and your soto's etcetera but you also have trae turner and you have muncie and you have will smith and you have buster posey and you have brandon crawford and you have chris taylor so i don't know if there's some vote splitting that will happen here or if votes putting is even a real thing but would any of you make sort of unbiased objective cases for any of the players on the teams that you cover grant you wanna go first Y- the it sets a very one. I am not going to be unbiased. But i don't think that buster posey has the at bats. The the games played brandon. Crawford tailed off a little bit I will just say that. A mac muncie has been incredible that be every time i turn on the tv. Will smith is doing something in. That guy drives me nuts. How does anyone get him out. He he to me is as important if not more important than muncie than than anyone else who might be on the dodgers i will. Smith would have a real strong consideration. If i had a vote. I mean bryce harper has been magical. There are so many good options. But when i look at that leaderboard i look it. Will smith ago. Yeah and i could give him some bonus points for being a catcher on top of that. Yeah i think everything everyone sort of bunch together right now to a point where it's almost. Whoever has the best september elise for like a contending team is is probably gonna win. But like if i had guess now i would probably pick mex- muncie for the dodgers. You're absolutely right on wilson. If he's been the dodgers best hitter. I think since the all star break and playing a more often than he was they were doing a pretty good job of making sure he gets rest. Because i think we've seen especially when the dodgers had yells money grand doll and he just play so often wear down at the end of the year. And then austin barnes would end up starting in the playoffs So i think they're more comfortable with will smith playing more. But if he continues it he could definitely make a case. Trae turner's right there if he keeps doing like slides that i can't figure out physically how he doesn't like maybe that stems Tied but if i had to pick one i would probably go muncie. Just given what he's done like all your ira. Should i ask this. I don't know this is a ridiculous question. But i should get into the nfl spirit of the so celebrating. The single series guys seventy any predictions for for this weekend which is probably the first time a vest anyone for predictions about a three game regular season series but just based on how these teams are playing in currently constructed in the pitching matchups and gave kappler saying that. Bryant is a free agent for instance or the dodgers have cory seager. Are those like the defining questions of like. What do we do this winter. And if so how do you see that play out. "Hopefully whatever it was will be topped sometime this weekend but does any game. We've already seen just because the season series has been so much fun. What stands out in either of your minds. Just generally but the dodgers almost one on a walk off and mike tuchman climbed the wall I don't know how far you got over the wall but that was a home. Run in it then. It wasn't and then the giants won in extra innings. But that was like an amazing moment. Just like literally made you yell while watching it from either side really so it was it was it was good. It was the moment where albert poo hits the ball. And you see the plan of vol you see how he drops the bat. You are primed to experience this. Well okay get them tomorrow and so to go from that because it was already a gut punch before that the giants entered that inning. Was i think yeah may twenty eight in so they had entered the ninth inning with a lead and a three run lead a huge lead. They should have just walked through that ninth-inning there were already reeling. From austin. barnes tying the game up and then it was like all right. Well now. it's over that's it and to go from that and then immediately going into the extra innings in building another big lead. That was the signature a i. Don't i mean look. I know we should be hyping up this series if anything is half as exciting as that game will be just ridiculous game so the sad news for all of us. Is that one of these teams. Have to emerge. But i'm not looking forward to any sort of one game playoff at all. Yeah i was gonna ask whether you think either of these teams is like particularly well setup for october or particularly ill equipped for october assuming they get by the wildcard game in into an actual playoff round. And you know we could debate what it actually means to be built for october. Or whether there is such thing but i guess typically you're talking about like top of your rotation in the back of your bullpen and maybe there's some extra value to contact hitting lineup. And We're one third of the way through the season in the toughest division. I think that we've seen in baseball in quite a while. And they're on and they played these teams there 500 against him, and they're on pace to 11 or two. I mean this. I'm just enjoying it hoping it continues every night. Well, here is my dears, too. They got like guys. You can hit home runs all through the lineup, like the seventh guy, the eighth guy, that leadoff guy, I mean, they can all hurt you and they might have a whole bunch of guys this year. They have 10 home runs or more, so it's not. You know, I got to do is a cash in a few times, right? You get cash in a few times, and it could be this guy could be that guy. Maybe it's a couple guys on base hit a three run, Jack. You get a big hit here, but it's not. Oh, man to get to the bottom of the order, and they're all outs. They're not all out. I mean, cause they can all hit it out of the ballpark two and even guys coming off the bench. Can head out of the ballpark. So I think that's the strength of this team. Not necessarily hitting for average, but they have guys that can hurt you throughout the order, so one guy may not have a monster year. When you look at his stats throughout the whole year, But when you add it all up, you're gonna be like Oh damn, That guy has 19. That guy has 17 17 14 13 11 10 10 10 12 You like Okay, I I kind of see how they do it now. I don't know. You know who has the I don't know what the like. How many guys have like 45 more Homer Bible, More home runs in the giant. I could look for a quicker form or whatever would put you on pace for 10. Probably about four. I guess that puts you on pace for 10 at this point. But to me, that's like the thing of this lineup and again. It's deep because it reminds me a little bit of the Rays line up in that they talked about the race today and they were saying, Well, I mean, Joy windows their best hitter. Glass knows their best picture. They got the best record in baseball there half game over the Giants on and they only have one guy on that team that might make the All Star team. I mean, it just stuck there, and it was a collective around that ballpark. Everybody was stunned, including Mike talk. You could look at this Giants game and point out so many different heroes. Whether it would be Buster Posey, whether it would be Mike talk man, Evan Longoria hitting the ball to the right field wall against Kenley Jansen. But I want to point out Lamont Wade's contributions that this is a guy who does not have a whole lot of experience at first base, and I think he won himself a job with that performance. Everybody thought it was a home run Pull host thought it was a home run. And the inning ended and save the Giants, or else it would have been a 65 walk off for the Dodgers. Incredible, Really. It was an incredible finish to that inning and your breath was taken away. But what it was was Giants Dodgers, and that's what it comes down to San Diego one last night, and the Dodgers, of course, end up losing the Giants win so both the Giants and Dodgers air tied again.
