Meantime, Anders Karlsson will try a field goal here from the 45 on the right hash of 55 yarder. He belts it skyward and it is no good. It is wide to the left as that one's drifted on the Alabama kicker he had made to On the Auburn kicker. Rather, he had made to earlier but this one wide left and he gives the ball right back to the Crimson tide. I know it's easy for us up here in the broadcast booth that you played at the highest level I'm merely broadcast. Would you have maybe rather taken the chance on 4th and 14 down 28 to 6 with Alabama's offense? I know the few gold makes it easy to say that true it does. But you have Anders Karlsson as your kicker. Yeah, belief, just like you had belief in his brother that he can make these long field goals as a 50 54 yard or so you take a shot. You hope that it goes stew and stops the bleeding a little bit. But you missed that smell songs getting desperate At this point we pitch the ball on first down is out of an analogy Here is he's running to the right and scoots up to about 45 yard line on first down and you get the feeling that may have been the end for all over because Obama will now look to chew on the clock. What is an impressive showing so far for them? They have done almost anything they wanted on offense since the first quarter. They put it in the first two times they had the ball. They'd love nothing better than to beat them by 30 or more here again tonight, 40 or more. If they could do it in that game two years ago, Auburn had a tight at half time. I remember Smells on kind of took his foot off the gas. With two minutes to go. He was conceding. There's a hand off now. Jay Harris breaks free racing Mike Side 2015 10 5 Far sideline. "Got atro-. There are several roll teams. Who I've loved this year more than ever before because I think I dunno spiritedly finally on wavelength where I could really understand what they're about right and it's this one? I love offered because at all points like I said sometimes they kick the guy into the well and sometimes sometimes they try to get the guy to the well and do a flag backflip into the well right usually taking someone else with them not the person they intended to kick either way straight for us it's if my actual fortunes as a sports fan relied on a consistent performance for them I throw myself into the nearest wood chipper however I managed insulate my life from that pretty well at a distance. It's an absolute joy to watch especially when the primary loser in Auburn successes is Alabama football. Yeah warm the hands by this crackling fire eight rage I will take. I can't take it away from Mac does though he threw six touchdowns Saturday night. Immaculate all of a Mac to back let two of them went to of the forever. Yeah but you know the Lord gives us lower tank. I'll listen of everything that went around us. I am these things they were at mattress can acquitted himself. Read a couple of big mistakes just came right back and I thought played really really well. He also he got he decided I was going to fall into the spirit of the game. Not Remembering that when you decide to go full iron bowl. Sometimes you get a little awkward in your bloodstream. Let Street and there's not much more auburn than throwing a hundred yard. Pick six and throw another one. That went straight to an Auburn defender vendor for six points the other way I love. How if this happens to any other team we say like okay well? There's some context here. There's two touchdowns and two field goals goals that were extremely unsustainable and Blah Blah Blah Blah. If it's damaged fuck you kiss your sorry ass Outta here next in context. I don't know what that means. I don't know her you know. You don't need context right. I think this is the thing. Is You go. If Alabama's well all the following things happened very very on its. They are the billionaire that you're waiting to get on the desert island right. Is it you talk about these online clips of the is the time is the time to be prayer warrior closet because if staking of of incredibly angry rich meme whining about us Let's talk about the saddest and most down trodden coach in America today. It's not not luke. No it's not you freezing. Whatever SUPINE POSITION He may be coaching from right now a boy? It's not even Berry Odem. He's hearing the things that this tiny little little cynic is spewing in his ear but how everyone hates Clemson and Dad Bo believes it. That was a trusting man. And that's how he comes up with all these notions about we're going to drop Clemson and number twenty for beating South Carolina and so forth. I mean south. Carolina does impressive win on his resume. Doesn't it it does South Carolina beat Georgia. That's with their third string quarterback starting in Lavigne's in Athens after after he goes out there on the road they're down to their third string starter and nevertheless in in untrue gamecocks fashion but the assistance of one of the great game managers of our time. This is something positive about Georgia. Yeah Okay so a Georgia player Spencer. who was a pickens while in a fight mid play with a Georgia tech defensive back ended up on national television in front of God and everyone dragging this player like horse collar dragging adding this player into an insular wall? Headfirst is this now. A wrastling rivalry gentlemen discuss. Did actually having to think. This is an anime rivalry because the only time the only time I've seen somebody actually grab somebody by the top of the head in real life and then see a wall or other hard object in throw them into it. Headfirst is in Basel. Bruton's survival one on one video fight tactics Bar A long way this was genuinely impressive. He did so outside of wrestling where somebody winds up in. Lead someone into steel stares at the turnbuckle yeah. This is the closest thing I've ever seen to real life Baas Rootin- On lookie what I have here moment so obviously as soon as I saw holly wrote word wrassling in the notes I jotted a few notes about this rivalry that I think support the case the nickname of course clean old fashioned hate. That is a really good p. p. v.. Pay Per view tagline preferably. If you have John Cena match clean right you have clear characters and distinct styles. You have this cerebral technician nerd from out of town against These five words will not make sense in any other context than when describing the University of Georgia a dainty country brawler prep slob mess. George the no that makes sense other than historical. You have in history books you have a An old worker shoot type situation. No another knows whether it's real or not Because they to this day they don't agree on how to count their games during the world. Wars There was a late nineties. Screw Job Bob. "Exactly tech Virginia. Don't get so defensive. No, really, let's see if we can get this one out of the forties. Maybe all very Notre Dame, and the master piece that was big versus the pirates up will hang that. Looms? The new for nineteen forty best ball game. It was eight photo. And. We'll get. Whether defense sparks joy in you. Whether it's I fifty wins. We'll breakdown Texas Tech Virginia Tech. I how we got here and even before that who feel guilty about watching Auburn fan. Celebrate thinking they want a real crisis the conscious. Oh, the doubles dribble wasn't cold. How was how the NCAA says they got it right with the foul ignored the double because they don't look at non calls. How Virginia scaping Auburn with sentence? We're going to start with you, Israel, Gutierrez. Auburn yet. Rob. I mean, by letter of the opinion. Yes, they got robbed because that was a double dribble and any high. Should be able to see it. I mean, one of the rest was trailing the play and saw it happened right in front of them. But it's one of those situations where you don't expect something to happen. So maybe you're no excuses for that referees should have seen that. Did they get robbed? I've seen a lot worse. Right. That foul. Call was absolutely a foul. He bumped the guy in the air doesn't matter. What Lee you're playing in these days that's going to be a foul. I didn't like the strategy of using up all your house to give and everything else. And I understand the reasoning for me, I'm not a fan of when I think of this game, and this history, I do not think of Auburn getting robbed necessarily because I thought a that was a foul in the double dribble, something that can be overlooked. It happens eleven blog stones at Auburn get robbed. No, they didn't get robbed. I mean, the other thing that wasn't mentioned just now's affected Jared Harper. Eighty two percent free. Throw shooter win to the line and only hit one of two guide who's an eighty two percent of free. Throw shooter went to the line with ice cold water in his veins and drained all three there was the grab by Brown on the jersey. That was not called a fell. I don't understand all the time. This discussion about calling fouls in the last critical seconds of game. What a referee's out there to do. If this is I concern. Then why don't we just for the last sixty seconds? Take the referees off the off the Florida and let everybody on the floor. Call the game themselves. The call on the jump shot from the corner was absolutely foul. Auburn did not kinds. I agree. I don't think they got robbed appears contentious the final foul was indeed a foul and that wasn't the easiest call by the way. It was got seeing correct. Now, the double dribble wasn't mistake. But as b alluded to if you slow it down, you want to relitigate every little thing that happens. The Auburn defender dig get a piece of drums jersey before the double dribble happens. So technically the should have been called before we can keep doing that over and over. I do however object to the the ended up coming out and defending the last call, but not the double dribble. I do think it would be better. If they admitted they made a mistake every now, and then for the sake of transparent object, I liked that we should go legal law and order on their show. I strenuously object. Would he pay you? What's my problem? Let me take you back in time. B you kinda disgusted after Harper misses the free throw they have a foul to give right there. What are they do? They found him at the free throw line five point four seconds for made get let him get to mid or over then Fowley used up most of the clock..

"So what I was wondering when you'd get around to that at the end of the show. Just like, hey, what do you think? I said Auburn Michigan state, and you said Virginia, Texas Tech. You were absolutely right. I tip my cap to you if I had a cap on. I would tip to you. Yes. The Auburn contingent. And they got they got beef, man. A large part of the Auburn contingent. That does not include show sparkley that does not include Charles who despite the obvious pain of watching the way that that game finished up went on the air and said the play in question. The foul of Kyle guy by Samir dowdy was in fact, a foul in the act of shooting a three point shot in the act of shooting with one point five seconds remaining taking that shot ball goes off the iron. There's videos all over the place on social media from Auburn where fans are running into the streets going crazy thinking that they had just won the game. Except for the fact as a whistle. That's blown. And you thought that whistle might have been because the buzzer sounds game over. No, the whistle is a three-shot foul. A three shot foul and you look at the play. You've I've looked at the play a million times over and if the foul that was called on Carson Williams on Purdue interestingly enough against Tennessee and Williams had three to win. He took made two two tie and produced won the game in overtime as both Tennessee and offered to SEC hopefuls, get mcgahee eight due to a foul call that happened at the end that had the whole country talking about it. The contact was created by doughty. Was created by him. He jumped into God, he jumped into the area guy could not land where he was shooting it from because he got bumped he did get bumped after the ball was gone. So you could say that was fouled in the act of shooting shooting shooting balls out then contact hits in the hip, but the ref made the call you can make a case that it was a foul. My only issue with this is not that it happens at the end of a game. You've got a call the foul with one second left. If it's a foul with one second in it's a foul with one second left. That's just the way I view things the NFL views at the same way, by the way. My issue was they were letting so much go. Yeah. The fact that guy took the shot with a second and a half left is because Auburn didn't have enough team fouls for I mean Virginia to have enough team fouls send Auburn to the line. And then Auburn didn't have enough team fouls to send virginity line. So they were hacking Virginia like crazy to take time off the clock. And the thing that's kind of nuts is they didn't foul guy soon enough. He got the ball and released it, but that's neither here nor there. So there were so few fouls cold in the game that Virginia needed to send Auburn to the line. Couldn't do it fast enough for them took time off the clock. And then Auburn took more time off the clock because they didn't have enough fouls to send Virginia line which was to their benefit. So the entire second half is played with letting them go. Let it go. Let them roll. And then we get a foul towards the end there. Not to mention the fact that there was a double dribble that was missed. Jerome bringing the ball up. Thinking, I guess you. He was gonna get found. I don't know. But he goes behind the back hits hit the ball hits him in the leg. And then he picks it up and dribbles. Joe love zone. So so I don't know did the ref stink that it's possible that the Auburn defender knocked it loose in. That's why they didn't call it because it's clear that it's off his leg and the minute. He picks the ball up. He's not allowed to move. Certainly can't put the ball down in dribble. So then instead of dowdy sitting here wondering if he did something wrong, and he was the reason why Auburn lost a game in which by the way..

"And how we got there stirred up a little bit of controversy all burning UVA questionable calls at the end. You had the rep Smith's double dribble on UVA's tied Jerome then down to Kyle guy right here. Foul taking a corner. Three gets to the line. It's all three free throws said afterwards. He was nervous as hell. You the advancing to the national title game tonight to play Texas Tech. See what did you make the end of this game? We'll wound to come to the Auburn defense. Here. The defender he probably thought. The cavalier Virginia player was gonna shoot a fatally Cayo guy because when you get the ball in the corner like that. And we see it a lot of times in the NBA. That's the way they doubled doubled pick for him coming around. He's gonna get the highest percentage shot is that corner jump shot, but he would fade away doing. He had perfect form. And he went straight up which didn't allow the Auburn defenders. You can see right here. He goes straight up and down. He didn't fade off the court, which we normally see guys do then he would have been in good position. But because the Auburn defender leaves his feet, and that's a big to do with going into the cylinder of the offense of player and not allowing him to land. You can land on his ankles is a very dangerous basketball play. And typically you're going to see this call now in this moment to win or lose a game. That's what probably made it so difficult and the call that they missed before the potential double dribble that no one saw the double dribble was. Agreed. Yes. That was. I don't know what the ref is looking at his is what I thought because when he went to go behind his back. You could see the arms of the defender in. It looked like when he reached like that was what stopped the ball. But his hand was higher than actual ball. Was I get that. But my problem is you have to refs theoretically, imperfect position ones up on the far side of the court. You could see his legs there and the others trailing the play and the defenders not right up on him. That's a bad miss. But it's a miss to make that call at the end, I understand Barclay who's an Auburn alum was very gracious about a gene stare toward came out and said things very similar to you. You gotta give airspace to land. I'm gonna tell you. Maybe I'm in the minority here. I hate this coal nobody I believe if they didn't make this call would have been saying, oh my God Virginia got robbed. If you're going to make a call on the final shot of a game. It has to be agrees. And I understand that is not what the who made data. I h the way to me sports have always been officiated that you one of the reasons guys often settled for jumpers instead of driving to the basket late is because they know it's hard to get that whistle. But they don't think. Oh, if they follow me, they're not going to call it one of the reasons why they don't go to the whole is to is. It's going to be a tougher shot. It's tougher to get to the whole late in games because you can't train athletes to be like, okay? You know, something guys they're going to ref at this way for thirty nine and a half minutes. But in the last thirty seconds, they're going to referee different way. You you can't teach players to respond to different like the refs. It's not fair to the referees. And I wanna give listen I wanna give Kyle guy tremendous credit so junior he was on the team last year that had the awful defeat in the first round hit a three in the previous corner with seven seconds left that even made this possible that kept them alive, and then to go to the line and hit all three free throws that to me was absolutely true. Mendes. But I I clearly listen you disagree. With me. See I'm people on social media, disagree with me. Maybe it's an old school mentality. By me. I don't know. I don't want games decided that the line. What would we won't? And what is the rules of the game? They're totally different..

"Rocky Mountain are smarter than me. So you can figure out exactly. Time. I'm on. I'm on now for another three hours and fifty five minutes, so help me out with the map there. And I'll be keeping informed and entertained on the stuff that's going on wait a minute. What the heck was on CBS? Just now I just walked in studio. I most times a lot of times when you're truly comes in the show. Previous to mine is being done from remote location from some of the town wherever they are using you the studio, and or their individual broadcast outlets, but CMO Chris Moore was here in studio, and I come walking in and by the way, just a little aside between you, and I seem old likes to do is show. Like he's in a coffin. He turns off all the lights the only lights in the studio or what from his computer screens and his college degree. So I thought I was walking into a dead dark studio. Some four minutes before show ended realize. I'm walking in on his show my bed just kind of gave them away. Put some stuff on my bad. Sorry about that. I didn't even realize he was I'd forgotten. I talked to him several times. But I completely forgotten that he was hosting the gel. So I walked in on vinyl couple of minutes show, but c MO pops in from time to time I had to come in turn on the lights, although we're similar age myself, Mr. Moore, apparently, my eyesight is not what his is. Because I can't do to show an dark I come in and turn the TV lights on even though wisely sell this show is not broadcast on television because I surely have a face for radio. No one has ever argued that before. So I turned lights on anyway doesn't matter. Whether I'm on TV or not give me the light. So I can see what I'm going to be reading talking about with you over the next couple of hours. The reason I ask is what the hell did CMO have on TV. Because I didn't get in and get the go to my usual procedures put up my computer websites. I don't want to be on and get all my papers. Ready? I didn't get to the TV's yet. He's got the Yankees on the bottom screen. They're banging home runs down in Camden. They did yesterday doing. So again today there are poor nothing in the bottom of the fourth inning. And is this does CBS network or CBS sports network? I don't know which one it is all but we got rodeo at its finest Alison day Sousa is up on the bucking Bronco right now. And yeah, it's gotta be something. Can we get in? We have a fairly key NBA game being played right now. A new n- starter Neuner going on between the heat and the Toronto Raptors bigger game for the heat who are scrounging for their playoff line lives at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Whereas Toronto the only thing they have left to play for is if they can finish with a better record than the warriors. Then they can get potential homecourt advantage in the NBA final. They're not catching the bucks and east. They opened up enough Graham between the Sixers who is sitting at number three right now. So nobody can catch them, but they are still in a battle for potential homecourt advantage. If they come through the east and Golden State gets the west, so it's a good match to Pathet at one given playoff team in one potential playoff team. So it is a game. We're keeping an eye on. And we'll do just that Toronto leads ninety six ninety. Three would four minutes and change to play north of the border D weighed in for the heat. And he takes it all the way to the hall for layup. He's still got it that old man. God bless him. Raptors one with under four minutes to play now. So keep an eye on the sports their ongoing plenty of baseball action Sunday afternoon. Great baseball day, you got your Sunday night game, which I don't even know what it is last week. I knew it would what it was because it was the Phillies. I should know what the Sunday night game is oh the D monster scoring team of major league baseball at least for the first week. And have that would be your L A Geiger's who had a basically like to home runs every single night as a team to work to and change their averaging over two home runs a game. Outrageous how much going no done here in the early season. Holy Julio US on the mount against Chad beddis for Colorado. So it's in Colorado, which lend itself to home runs. So don't be surprised if you've got a highschool. Sunday night affair, but the rest of the baseball action is all during the day. So yes, that's part of what we do here. On Sundays is trying to keep an eye on. What's actually going on right now? In the world of sports, we do project and predict what's going to happen in the future in a world of sports. Do some of that today because NBA will finish up with regular season? This week teams have two games left. Some teams down to just one. I guess there's one or two or at least whereas last night that had three games left still jockeying going on for playoff positioning. I just mentioned the raptors and heat both in that mode. The NHL finished up its regular season last night. So we know the sixteen teams who advanced to the postseason man to Tampa habit hell of regular seasons. One of the historically good regular seasons in the history of the National Hockey League. And one of the problems with the NHL and the NHL had several problems. I like the NFL hockey guy. But I readily admit because they changed as much as they have. It's difficult to look at present day accomplishments at least on a team side and compare them to past accomplishments of teams from yesteryear because they did away with the tie because there are no more ties in the National Hockey League amount of victories that the Toronto excuse me that the Tampa lightning got this year is kind of ballooned it's over the top. We've had great great. Great great, great hockey teams that didn't win as many games. Tampa. One fifty two of eighty two this year. Team. Just a win sixty two games in the National Hockey League. Well, Tampa did why because they don't have ties anymore. It used to be teams play a bunch of ties over the course of the year and Tampa was really good in overtime. They only lost four overtime games all year long. And one shootout loss. So in games that went to. The sixty first minute they came out on top a lot of times six shootout wins. I don't know how many overtime wins they had but they do up the one twenty eight spot as far as points. Go. Boston finished his second to them in the Eastern Conference and overall with one hundred seven caps one. Oh, four aisles one zero three Calgary one oh seven as well. Calgary was the top team in the west and one hundred seven San Jose. Also went over one hundred points at one hundred one as did Nashville an even hundred so he got six seven nine teams in the AHL filled finish with over a hundred points. But one zero seven was the second best to Tampa's one twenty eight holy mackerel that regular season Tampa as the I'll use the word prohibitive favorite going into the NHL postseason, and yours truly. Don't do as much hockey on the weekends. When I fill in for my boy. Scotty ferrall. Yeah. We do hockey because I don't have much for likes hockey in. The Parrella maniacs like hockey side boat up on my hockey the week before I might we're filling in for ferrall. But with the regular season coming to an end knowing the playoff matchup. She wanted to check in with a little hockey talk today will surely take that NBA potential playoff matchups. Yes. And we'll continue on what we discussed in. The latter stages of my show yesterday. I'm a little later on Saturdays tonight year m here on Sundays. So the first game at ended while I was on the air, and that's both good and bad. It's good in that you can get and give immediate reaction. It's bad in that. I'm on the air hosting a show trying to keep it moving along. Getting your calls punching up guests doing everything it takes to show, and I can't pay as strict attention to the actual action. That's taking place while I'm on the air. I g just impossible. I'd like to be able to think that I can multitask. But I'm just not that good. And when you're sitting in front of a plant screen TV with the bottom up and your catching everything you've got a better grasp of what's going on out there on the floor. I got full-fledged last minute and change a what happened between Michigan state and Virginia. I Dakota controversial in ending would be a vast understatement or those who are just catching up with what happened in the NCAA yesterday in the final four Virginia. Hi lead. Coughed it up orbit. Went on a great run to take the lead downtown with five minutes to play fourteen zero run a fourteen run to go up by four with under thirty seconds to go. Michigan state makes it three to cut it to one day. Immediately foul Michigan Virginia, excuse me. Michigan state only makes one. So I take two point game. They have a ton of fouls to give so Virginia's trying to advance the ball up the floor. They continue to foul and they're going to make the Auburn is gonna make them work as hard as possible to get the ball into shooting position. Ed three thousand game coming up the floor. They gave. One which kind of lent itself to a double dribble that was never called. But for me, it was a foul ahead of time before that that they just let them play. And then as soon as the Virginia player recovered the ball started up to quite again foul again, take the ball out of bounds. It gets down to a three point at ten with under two seconds to go in corner. Guy. Catches elevates gets off a really good-looking shied. The Auburn defender comes underneath him doesn't attempt to block the shot attempts to stop. There is minor contact between the defender and the offensive player, and they blow the whistle and qualify now, I've been watching everyone the experts on all the channels lender opinion, former coaches, former players and the like the great majority of them think it was a foul. And should have been called a foul. I'm going to disagree with the great majority of them. I think the contact with incidental at best. And I repeat what I said yesterday. I really do want to get you take on this today. Eight five five two one two four two two seven. We'll do a lot of NCAA right off the bat here. If you called a foul every time there is contact in the game of basketball, you would shoot seventy five shots a game. And I'm not talking about both teams combined. I'm talking seventy five shots each age seventy foul chats. So there's contact that happens all the time that is not called a defile. If you literally read the rule last night play was a foul, but there's some subjectivity to it. If you're not putting the Ventoux player at a disadvantage, which I don't believe he did then you shouldn't blow the whistle. So I bought Auburn got screwed every which way but loose and the funny thing about it is the turn the double dribble. In the backboard that almost everyone agrees. Always just a flat-out miscall by the referee Uman era own prior to that. It was a foul a much more obvious fouled and the one that eventually happened in a corner that got Gregogna two three thousand shots into guys credit he trained every single one talk about pressure potential for a national championship on the line. Go to the line and calmly drains off reap all three thousand give him a ton of credit. But there was fallow is more than the back court that they're trying to give it an Reverend should know that trying to give it and they quote unquote, let them play on. Why didn't you just let the shooter shoot from the corner? And see if the ball went down. It was unfortunate on many, many, many different levels, certainly from any Auburn fan level for sure. I had been singing the praises of the officials in the NCAA tournament. I thought they had done a phenomenal job when you don't see the referee. That means they're doing their job. And I didn't talk about the referees. And or miss calls or bad calls or games being decided by whistles throughout the very long and large tournament that it is field up sixty eight so kudos rafts all the way up until the last thirty seconds of guests at as early game. When yes Virginia got by with a little help from their friends, aka the referees. Gimme a dot on it people. Now talking about expanded replay should play last minute last thirty seconds, Abbott timeframe, any call is review -able. I'm a fan of instant replay. But I realize it can't be just every single play to have to be some restrictions to it. I'm willing to discuss any and all as long as it is not taking over the game and making it a computer game. Console game just play with a joystick. No, it's still athletic competition between Uman beings, and it should be judged as at least in part by human beings. If we can get a little technical school leg-up, we'll help in hand, I'm for it. But we have to measure it. We have to do it correctly. You want debate a little bit with me today. Do it on our phone lines. Eight five five two unto for two two seven. We've got a couple of guests already booked looking to get a third to talk about what I was just talking about refereeing in the end of yesterday's game. We'll go specific matchup between the teams in the championship game tomorrow..

"Go from two to sixties turn eleven to three Pacific you guys in the central. Rocky Mountain are smarter than me. So you can figure out exactly what time I'm on. I'm on now for another three hours and fifty five minutes, so help me out with the map there. And I'll be keeping you informed and entered. Caned on stuff that's going on wait a minute. What the heck was on CBS? Just now I just walked into studio. I most times a lot of times when you're truly comes in the show. Previous to mine is being done from remote location from some of the town wherever they are using you the studio, and or their individual broadcast outlets but team, oh, Chris Moore was here in studio, and I come walking in and oh, by the way, just a little aside between you, and I seem old likes to do is show. Like he's in a coffin. He turned off all the lights the only lights in the studio or what emanates from his computer screens and his screen. So I thought I was walking into a dead dark studio. Some four minutes before the show ended and realize I'm walking in on his show my bed. I just kind of gave them away put some stuff on a cat. My bad. Sorry about that. I didn't even realize he was forgotten. I talked to him several times. But I completely forgotten that he was os gel. So I walked in on vinyl. Couple minutes show, but CMO pops in from time to time I had to come in turn on the lights. Although we're a similar age myself, Mr. Moore, apparently, my eyesight is not what his is. Because I can't do the show an dark I come in and turn the TV lights on even though wisely. So this show is not broadcast on television because I surely have face for radio. No one has ever argued that before. So I turned lights on anyway doesn't matter. Whether I'm on TV or not give me the light. So I can see what I'm going to be reading and or talking about with you over the next couple of hours. The reason I ask is what the hell did CMO have on TV. Because I didn't get in and get to go to my usual procedure put up my computer websites. I don't know which one it is. But we got rodeo at its finest Alison day Sousa is up on the bucking Bronco right now. And yeah, it's gotta be something. Can we don't we have a fairly key NBA game being played right now. A new starter? Neuner going on between the heat and the Toronto Raptors bigger game for the heat who are scrounging for their playoff line lives at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Whereas Toronto the only thing they have left to play for is if they can finished with a better record than the warriors, then they can get potential homecourt advantage in the NBA final. They're not catching a box in east. They opened up enough ground between the Sixers who is sitting at number three right now. So nobody can catch them, but they are still in a battle for potential homecourt advantage. If they come to the east and Golden State gets the west, so I it's it's a good match to one given playoff team in one potential playoff team. So it is a game more people than I on. And we'll do just that Toronto leads ninety six ninety. Three would four minutes and change to play north of the border D weighed in for the heat. And he takes it all the way at all for layup. He's still got it that old man. God bless him. Raptors one with under four minutes to play now. So keep an eye on the sports their ongoing plenty of baseball action Sunday afternoon. Great baseball day, you got your Sunday night game, which I don't even know what it is last week. I knew it would would it was because it was the Phillies. I should know what the Sunday night game is oh the monster scoring team of major league baseball for the first week and have that would be your L A dodgers who had a basically like to home runs every single night as a team to were to Enchaine. They're averaging over two home runs a game. Outrageous how much going done here in the early season. Holy Julio US on the mount against Chad beddis for Colorado. So it's in Colorado, which lend itself to home run. So don't be surprised if you've got a high score. Sunday night affair, but the rest of the baseball action is all during the day. So yes, that's part of what we do here. On Sundays is trying keep an eye on. "Texas Tech in Virginia that will be the national championship game on Monday night here to recap final four Saturday, Auburn Virginia, and then also Texas Tech and Michigan state is a man that's in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He's the associate head coach of the Princeton Tigers men's basketball team. And that's my good buddy McConnell has kind enough to give us a few minutes right now on CBS sports radio. Coach appreciate the time. Thank you for it. And what's going on? Thanks for having me, man. I was talking with you. And looking forward to talking about two great games tonight. Appreciate it. Always love talking with you as well. Let's start things off Saturday night. I game Auburn Virginia. Everyone's talking about the controversial call at the end of the game. When I watched the replay. And I've watched it about fifty times so far twenty-five times. I'll look at it. And I'll say, okay, I'm good. That's a foul. The other twenty five times they say man, I could see, but I really wish the ref would swallow the whistle there. 'cause you hate to see a gay men like that. Which was a crazy final five to six minutes. Where do you stand on this one? How do you look back at the call that did send Virginia to the national championship game? You know, I I pretty confidently that that it was a foul watching the replay not quite fifty times. But but two or three times I did think that I thought they got him with the body. I thought Auburn Kyle guy with their lower body, we kind of talk sometimes about sometimes you can you can almost fell with your hips and get away with it. But out there on the perimeter on the three point line. It does affect the shy. And I thought that was a foul says a coach year. Okay with it. Because I know some people in the final two minutes, they talk about swallowing, the whistle. And that's always controversial. Yeah. I mean, I think. Whether it's a minute into the game with a minute left in the game. And I thought that was to me that wasn't ticky tack that wasn't a nickel timer. You know, as Raftery would say that was that was a legitimate fell. From my perspective. I would have been, you know, some coaches perspective. If one of our guys did that at any point in the game when we consider that maybe being a lack of discipline are a little bit over anxious, obviously in that big of a moment your garden, a three point shooter. You know, what's at stake? You want to do your best to contest the shot and make it a tough difficult shot. But, but I did think that you know, just having the hand there. It was gonna be a tough enough shot with him run into the corner, not being set if you had contested it. I think as a coach you would've said you did your job, and if they made a really really tough three so be it. But to put the faddem in that situation and put them on the foul line. The chances were much greater for Kyle guy in Virginia. Another thing. We're analyzing is a call that was not made the potential double dribble right before that it looks like the rest missed that one. I did think that was a double dribble. It's it's maybe a little bit tougher in real time. You know, it's such a unique play and to to to be totally sure that it wasn't deflected by the Auburn defender there is maybe a tough call to make if you're not sure, but I did think in real time like looking at it pretty quickly like, hey, that's a that's a double dribble. And then you see it in on the replay, it confirms that I don't think anybody touched it. It went behind his back went back to pick it up with two hands, and then and then restarted dribble. So I think that was a double dribble, and it's really tough. You know, you think about the way this game goes and all the little bounces and calls and talking to to some coaching buddies here. Like, it's you have a tendency as as a coach to beat yourself up after a loss like that. But when you see. This game. You realize, you know, both coaches, whoever was on the winning or losing end of this is going to have some things that that they regret and things that that either did or didn't go their way. And it's just the whistle goes or the ball bounces. I mean, both these teams, you know, certainly played well enough to to win the game. So tough to see it go down like that. You're exactly right because I was thinking this, right? When the game ended. I if you're Virginia yourself elated you're going to the national title game. Especially what they went through last year. It's probably impossible to sleep tonight. Just because based off the excitement and the joy of getting to play in the title game. And then on the other side, if you're all burn it looked like they were done with five minutes to go and then out of nowhere. They just found the way and then with under five seconds, the play you're thinking, okay. Here's this remarkable story with Auburn they're going to the national title game, and then instantly it gets taken away so win or lose. I don't know how either side sleeps tonight. Yeah. No, it's it's really tough. And and the other thing that's a little bit disappointing is, you know, these calls, and and the, you know, the we keep talking about these two calls. I know it's everywhere on social media. But you know, Kyle guys corner amazing the possession before that was incredible. And doesn't get talked about as much. I mean, the execution even on on the three that they get fouled on with one point five seconds left to hit the corner in and get a three pointer, and they're like there's a lot of impressive plays throughout the game that that maybe get overshadowed a little bit. But, but I also think when you when you reflect on the how tight this final four game was I mean, the fan watching that entertainment level was really high, and you certainly got the money's worth game. Brett McConnell in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He's the associate head coach for the Princeton Tigers basketball team here with us Zach yelp show on CBS sports radio. Radio. I alluded to it. With the Virginia's story, we all know the pressure. They've had to deal with and the thought of losing to a sixteen CD year ago, and how it did marinate with them all throughout the summer and everyone's talking about this year, even when they're winning early in the NC double A tournament where they struggled against Gardner Webb in the first half. This is always the thing. That's talked about that the win a championship to try to get away from the label of being the one seed to lose to a sixteen adds that'd be a lot of pressure the entire year, and they've had to crazy games against Purdue. And now this one against all burn the story with Tony Bennett this year. It's impossible. I know crispy great story, but it's tough not the root for a Tony Bennett right now, though question I mean, he handled that loss last total class, and obviously it was a really really tough situation. And I don't think him or his players whatever wish to to to go through that. But they. I've certainly grown from it. They've learned a lot from it. They're motivated, and they might be a little bit of a team of destiny. The way the way they're winning some of these close games. So it's really cool to see he's he's certainly a class act and in every way, and I've been I've been kind of pulling for them a little bit here, especially especially lately. So I I would love to see them win the national championship. And then watched the thirty for thirty of the last, you know, three hundred sixty six days, or whatever whatever that is a year in a month or so from from when they did lose that that you NBC game. So what what an awesome story what we talk about thirty thirties. And I know that you know, I'm in love with this. Tony Bennett story, but then on the other side, and he joins us last week after they punch the ticket to the final four. I don't know how it gets much better as Volva Chris beard. It's like I can't pick between the two. This was someone that was coaching, South Carolina. Warriors mcmurray. Angelo state got to the second round at Little Rock. And then. Back at Texas Tech, this this is a story where you go. Okay. He's coaching at places, and you respect the journey, and you know, what the journeys like being a head coach being a coach and going on that drive to potentially be a head coach. But a story like Desa, and then the team they lost five hundred their top seven scores a year ago on an elite eight team and their seventh in the big twelve. This is one tremendous coaching crispier areas. It really is. I mean, it's so hard not to refer for him. And obviously I have a lot of respect for for Tom Izzo. And you're talking about one of the all-time, great coaches and crispier in this. You know, incredible ascension that he's dead. He's you know, this right? He's been onto to get to this spot at Texas Tech to be you know, winning a game of this. You know, at this level against a coach like his, oh, it's it's an awesome story. And he's certainly seems like a guy that has his players love playing for and have a lot of respect for. So. Two great coaches here in the in the final now halfway through the second half. Texas Taqwa went on a big run. Our they had baskets in eight out of ten possessions. Culver didn't do much until the end of the game where he did shine bright in the final minute thirty. And we all know the great Texas Tech defense of what was the difference in this one on Saturday night between Texas Tech and Michigan state? Well, I mean, certainly down the stretch there that that run with some some Mooney three pointers, which I mean, he was incredible tonight from three and some really really tough ones. And then colder had a three late in the game as well. To kind of you know, that maybe that was that final dagger really put that game out of reach. But I was just looking at the box score and pretty incredibly Culver had finally got to ten points really late in the game Mooney had twenty two not another guy was in double figures for Texas Tech. So the bottom line is. The only give up fifty one point. You got a really good shot at winning and their defense is just incredible. What is it about their defense? What do you see from a coaching standpoint? Goings, no points. Henry only had eleven Tillman seven you. Hold him acquaint to twelve Winston you hold them to sixteen and they only had five points off the bench from ward. What is it about this defense that you see when you watch them? Well, they have they have great is plankton and versatility at just about every position. And they're able to switch a lot of screens. And they don't they don't get burned by that a lot of times you'll see when there's a switch. There'll be a point guard. Like, a specially talented caches Winston was matched up against a big and that matchup gets exploited or or a big. And obviously Michigan state has some has some good ones when they're big were going against the guards in the post like those Texas Tech cards are are big they're physical. They're tough. So that versatility that ability to to. Switch ball screens and different screening actions was a major key for them tonight. And then the other thing that happens when you switch screens is susceptible to give up offense rebounds. When those guards have to box out, a big, and and Texas Tech is just so tough only to give up eight offense defense tonight against the Michigan state team that is big and physical and crashes that offense of glass heart. Those are those are some really big keys for for the Texas. Tech defense, wrapping up a day sharp young mine in the basketball business coaching college as the associate head coach of the Princeton Tigers men's basketball team Brett McConnell is my guest on CBS sports radio. We talked about the coaching matchup Bennett and beard when you get the players. Hey, you expect this one to be a defensive slugfest know offense, though will eventually play a role some way or another. What's your first thought on Texas Tech in Virginia? And what decides it on Monday. Mean definitely going to see a defensive battle here. Both these teams are so good. They can really frustrate you. I think the thing that jumps out at me that potentially could be the difference is both teams have a couple of guys that can make tough shots and difficult plays. And I think you're not going to get anything easy in this game sexist tech in Virginia are to discipline their too good. Their transition defense is excellent. So I don't think you're gonna get many easy looks or layups, but for Texas Tech Mooney and colder have ability to to make tough shots to make one on one place and Virginia. I think about Kyle guy and tied room has guys that kind of make something out of nothing at times and have the potential to make deep contested shots. And I think the team that makes more of those tough shots. Could be the ones that come out on top in this business. You know, you lose more than you win in these postseason tournaments. And when you lose, it's gut wrenching. And there's some players that you'll never see again and be able to coach again, you never know where life does take you. When you're winning though, it's something everyone can get behind. You know, the message, and what it takes to be a coach on this level. When you take a look at Bruce parl and the way that they lost that game. I remember you guys in the tournament a few years ago as a Cinderella in the first round you right there at the end. You you missed the three at the buzzer could have defeated Notre Dame when you get in the locker room. But what is there to say? What are you say as a coach the players knowing how much you've invested in the players and the players invested in you. Yeah. I mean, I'm, you know, I'm sure there was Pearl in this moment. And I know how how I fell in our fellow coach. Just felt I mean, there's there's so many emotions players and coaches, especially your your seniors and the guys that that won't have another chance. But I think Bruce in that moment and from what he said post game was was really really proud of his guys. And I think he probably wanted them to know like that that.
