"You're in charge of game 5. What we got. Yeah, going Indiana, Michigan state, a couple of teams that really, really, really need to need a dub here. Let me check out this Ken palm line real quick. I think it is Indiana minus four, so that's interesting. No, no, no. It's Michigan state minus four. That makes a lot more sense. Because Michigan state is the home team in this game. So Michigan state minus four at home against an Indiana team that, you know, who's playing for them. I mean, I think those 5 guys who were suspended are back, but they are back. They have been reinstated. And by the way, Mike Woodson seemed to suggest that the reason they were suspended was because they blew curfew. And he didn't come out and straight up say that they were going to return to their encore roles. He kind of was ambiguous about if they were going to be immediately part of the rotation or play they're saying minutes, you know? Yeah, yeah, I mean, we'll see the game, by the way, tips at three 30 eastern on Saturday. It's going to be on Fox. Yeah, we'll see who plays and how much, but my understanding is they're available. And I thought, I thought it was noteworthy. If this really is just a blown curfew, like to take 5 players out of your off your roster for a game, I guess it was at northwestern that you need as it pertains to you instead of a tournament resume. I think that says something about Mike Woodson that I don't think is often attached to quote unquote NBA guys. Because sometimes when an NBA coach finds himself coaching college basketball, one of the things you'll hear, not 100% of the time, but often is they don't care about academic stuff. They don't care about any of the stuff that some college coaches really do seem to care about. They're just basketball coach. They're not trying to turn boys into young men or whatever that cliche is. They're just, you know, they just go to the basketball team the way they've coached their basketball team at the professional level. My point being for a first year college coach to actually suspend 5 players for curfew? If it is actually curfew, I don't want to say it's impressive because I don't even know what that means. I just, it stood out to me. I don't know if I would have done it. Given where my season is at right now and what my fans want from me and that it's February and every game is important. I don't know. I just thought it said something about Mike Woodson and I think probably something positive about Mike Woodson. Yeah, I was surprised. I mean, two starters, it was Xavier Johnson and Parker Stewart, both starters who were among that 5, two other guys who were role players and then Christian lander who sometimes plays. He was among that group as well. So yeah, definitely a bold move. I'm going Michigan state. I don't think they're going to lose consecutive home games. I think they've struggled recently. They've kind of, they're kind of in the spot right now where they're legitimacy isn't question. They're doing a reverse izzo, where they're seeming to backslide. As we get deeper into the season and I don't know that that I just don't think that's going to continue. I think they're going to get it done at home here. And I think there's some questions. I mean, just for me about this situation with Indiana, where I don't know that I fully trust the best version of Indiana to show up in the first game after this suspension situation. So I'm going to yeah. Indiana has lost two straight, Michigan state, as you noted, has also lost two straight. This is important for both teams. You know what? I'll take Indiana plus the points. I think Michigan state wins the game, but I think it'll be a competitive gain pretty much from start to finish. And I don't guess I'd be shocked if Indiana went to the breslin center and won given that we just watched Illinois or I mean, we just watched. Wisconsin go to the breslin center and win. So I'll take Indiana plus the points and then by Saturday afternoon we'll know for sure either the Internet will be working perfectly throughout the state or they'll be having bandwidth problems again. It's tough to tell. And David Kabul haven't even wider lead. And you are wearing us out in the final four on one. Thank you for being here. I appreciate it. It's always good, not good when norlander is away. I don't mean it that way, but it's nice to have somebody reliable and of quality to sit in that other box across from. So that means a lot, Gary. You know, people need to know how important you are. I heard you guys talking with Sam bassini a couple weeks ago. And Sam was just lavishing you with praise for the fact that he's that he was once employed by CBS. And I need to give you a similar shout out too. I mean, I was like, man, you know, Gary needs some love because, you know, I hit you up a couple years ago, I was like, hey what do you know about this? And you know, you didn't even know me that well. I mean, I've been on your show a handful of times and obviously ran in the meeting at this media market and you put in a word, got my resume to the top of a pile somewhere and here we are. So I appreciate you. Well, you're welcome. I didn't know you too well, but I knew your work. And for these purposes, that's what I needed to know. I was like, this is because your background is vastly different than say Sam bes background. You know, had never worked at a traditional newspaper, never been on a beat. He's awesome, but like you guys come from totally different places. And I just remember when we had an opening reaching out there, you know, after being in contact with you, reaching out to the bosses. And I actually said, hey, this guy lives in Memphis. I don't know if you want another guy who lives in Memphis. But he's good. And I bet you you're not gonna have a more qualified candidate than David. So just take a look at it and then you guys take it from here. So I'm not gonna take credit for hiring you 'cause I didn't do that. I don't have that kind of power, but I did endorse. I did endorse you, and I'm glad I did, because otherwise, I have no idea who I'd be talking to right now. Yeah, and you wouldn't know that Julius Randle and Keller booth, the attention of the same high school. I tell you, that's not something norlander would have come with. It's not something that would have had for me. Chelsea David dowdy Chester Chester, South Carolina, shouts to Gary Franklin, legend, shellard now. So please do that. And we're going to talk to you again on not Sunday. Not Sunday. We're not going to talk to you again on Super Bowl Sunday. Dead leg was like, one option is we could do it after the Super Bowl, and I'm like, there's no scenario where I'm doing a podcast after the Super Bowl. What are you talking? What are you talking about? So we're going to talk to you again on Monday morning. I think we're going to try to go 10 a.m. eastern on Monday morning and we will recap the weekend then. "Swit- remember much better than i do. But what was it two. Or maybe three years ago now when we had that Group of rave young women of color. Who got in all of that trouble in their school for wearing braided hairstyle the truly appropriate and people were hysterical over. That people are still. How dare these girls. Where do you hairstyles and go against that coach. I would be really interested to learn how many of those people were mad at those young women who are now saying my kid. How dare you pay that. My kid has to wear a mask in school. it just seems like such a double standard. Have the kids wear their math. Everyone can be safe and happy and helping and kinda. Just get rid of that devastator. Make it part of the school uniform dress code point. Many people have brought that up to the schools have dress codes all the time right now. It's all the things we talk about. The you can and you can't do in society and why putting on a little mouse that cost about seventy five cents and it's so easy to put on your face and so allow you to live a very healthy. Active life is a problem is again beyond me. I keep saying that. I think a lot of us can't understand this. I'm going to the emails looking for anti massacres. I haven't found yet. But if you are on anti-massacre please call. You can have a big fight boiling. Aren't you with this whole thing She'll just email and says sally there about a half dozen of these anti mass signs and my neighborhood of about two hundred homes in north attleboro on mask our children and all these people with the signs have kids in the public school and she says that one candidate for mayor is running on a no mask platform. Wow i mean the interesting thing. I think we don't have a vaccine mandate for for schools yet not for students But for staff. And i guess that's because it doesn't fall under the state guidelines. I guess technically teachers would be town employees. So it's up to districts. Yeah i think that's coming. I said before the massachusetts teachers association wants vaccines and they have a pretty powerful union. So we'll see. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want someone teaching next to you to be vaccinated exactly. Let's go to maria shrewsbury. Hi maria..

"Is they lead the series of octa the identity company which they would then own what eighteen percent at ipo yet they owned just a hair under twenty percent pre money the ipo before the new The ipo cash came in so that was ipo. valuation was six billion. Sarah six billion and today it's what is it thirty. Three billion that companies continued to be a monster. Yes so this is out of three hundred million dollar fund so at ipo. Their stake was worth. Call it one. A half to two billion at ipo attleboro and this one company and if they've held today which it's unlikely given it was a fund one for them totally and i'm sure they distributed over time so they probably captured some of this upside but just as a thought exercise twenty percent fifteen percent of. That's what five billion ish ish. Yeah not bad not pad and octa. This is another one that like mark talks about publicly as we were totally laughed at identity providers were thing already and like microsoft with active directory like it was owned but the ceo of fox. Todd mckinnon had this like big thesis around the shift to the cloud. Means that there's time for a new identity provider. There's room for a new person to come in and out of the incumbents are going to be able to react to it and mark always talks about that like this is the kind of thing that we loved hearing when there's like a rearranging of the technology paradigm used and right now. It's just by a small selection of people but overtime everyone will shift to the cloud but yeah he said they were totally laughed at for doing the octa deal because it was very against collective wisdom that that would be successful. Well do things want. It even goes deeper than that. Because tim house. Who was early netscape guy. And then co founder of lao cloud with ben mark and everybody he invented l. dab the directory access protocol. So they knew a lot about this and then the other thing you know just everything you said. It reminds me of the classics question. The why now why not well. It was great. Why now for octa. The cloud was changing everything. There were like a lot of companies around this time and even for the next five years where just saying. Hey we're gonna do a thing. That's already sort of settled frontier in a very settled frontier in the on premise world. But we're going to bet big on cloud and we're going to architect it in such a way that like. We're not even compatible with on premise world. If they miss time the enterprise shift to cloud the whole thing would have gone under because there. There would've been no way to be. I'm thinking specifically of like a snowflake the cloud based data warehouse. You had to be binary in your bet and say like we believe in this thesis at this timing and obviously with octa snowflake it paid off but you know with other cloud bets cloud cloud it did. The timing was our the why now is not not great. Well actually it was great. It was good story. It just didn't play out well so they're spending money as let's see maybe their Their enemies would say drunken sailors. Maybe it would be a good term at this point. We're still we're in early parts of two thousand ten. They've done fifty mil into skype. They've done all of these deals. They're doing tons the c. Deals on top of it. It's a lot..

I've heard just now your message to them. What are you hearing from constituents who do not were not getting vaccinated. So i'm proud to say that fall river now Based on my last conversation with the mayor a few days ago has tipped about fifty percent jackson nation rate And he is doing a tremendous amount of work to continue to to raise that up. There is now increasingly. Good research about the right way to message to a vaccine. Has its population it. It seems like it's decreasingly. Effective to talk about peer pressure or social forming and more effective to reiterate the safety of the vaccine And that that message is most effective when it comes from republican elected officials to Republican constituents that that people who are vaccine hesitant who are supporters of donald trump want to hear from republican elected officials that the vaccine is safe. That's what the evidence is saying. It'd be most effective messaging. And i'm not political about it. I just want people to get vaccines whatever works we should be doing. Which is why. I'm so incredibly frustrated with my colleagues in congress from the republican party who are unwilling to tell their constituents who would listen to them that this vaccine is safe and they need to get. That is a moral responsibility. Patriotic responsibility that these republicans have and they're abdicating any conversations in the back rooms trying to sway. Republican colleagues to to carry a different message is the prevalence of the delta verion starting to change people's minds after what we've seen over the last eighteen months of this virus after the willingness that we've seen from trump and his enablers politicize even the most basic science and public health. Would you like to hear some good news. Yes please alright. Well so apple has actually open all of its stores for the first time since march fourteenth. Twenty twenty you know that feels like more than a year ago but it was not even a year ago that that happened. And if you remember back then was one of the first signs that this coronavirus pandemic was going to be serious and deal a serious impact retail and the workplace now. You can't just walk into any apple store yet. Some are open only for pickup of orders while others require fifteen minutes shopping session but you could check online and figure out. What's going on with your store and i have a story about that up on tech that usa today dot com has the lincoln. And if you wanted to go there but the fact that these types of the stores are all reopened across the. Us is a good sign that we're on the right track to some semblance of retail. Normalcy hopeful interestingly apple really didn't suffer sales wise during the pandemic in the report of its most recent financial quarter which was october to december twenty twenty the company said quarterly sales records for iphones including the iphone. Twelve and sold more apple watches airpod and homepod speakers on the way to a quarterly revenue. Record of one hundred and eleven point four billion dollars. So hopefully this reopening story will spread to other retailers to in the weeks ahead yet definitely. I still remember when we first started hearing all these different stores that were closing. And that's when. I think hit me that this was really a big deal because obviously never hear stores closing. Even you know even like hurricane type stuff. There's a bunch of breakdowns in the right lane out after the Allston Brighton area, apparently, Ah, huge pothole in the right lane. So keep that in mind as you make your way past. Say the BU bridge.
