"Yeah, I agree with that. I like that. Yeah. I'm definitely gonna be rooting for you on Alvarez, who remains just baffling underrated. Yeah. Bafflingly underrated, but the overall populace of baseball fans, he's one of the best, I don't know, 20 players a baseball for sure. Yeah. And I think he's one of the top 5 or ten hitters in the game and now people are seeing it a little bit more, but he's great and really good and really hard to pitch to. It's not a lefty righty thing. It's not a thing that you can get out of with the blue matchups. He's really gonna watch. From her vault is really fun to watch. There are probably 5 or 6 players on each of the 14 remaining that I'm very happy to watch. Yeah. And so yeah, I'm with you. I predict a World Series of Dodgers Astros because I already have, but I would be happy with any of the possible matchups. And that only because there are some really fun players on each of these teams. Yeah. Well, we will await the results of those contests, but we want to talk about some experimental rules that leave it to Ben, other Ben to be on leave and still produce a reported and very detailed feature with robots. Yes. But, you know, I'm pleased because it gives us, you know, it gives us a podcast topic. So really, Ben wrote a feature and he contributed to effectively while both things that he should not have to be doing right now, so we tip our hats to him and also to rob for rob's contributions to this piece, going into the season, we knew that there were going to be a number of rule changes that were experimented with at various levels of affiliated ball and also in the Atlantic league. So to remind folks of what we're dealing with here in the Atlantic league, the mound was moved back by a foot at midseason in double-A, they banned the infield shift in triple-A. They got really wacky and the bases and then changing some of the rules around. Pick offs, and they also made some of those pick off changes. I believe or step off changes rather in Lowe and then in low a west they had a 15 second pitch clock. We also had some automatic ball system testing going on. So those were sort of the big rule changes. And Ben and rob went through each of these and sort of evaluated them for their impact and also efficacy, some of the issues that we have seen pointed at. We don't need to recount this entire article, which is exhaustive and well worth a read we'lling to it in the show notes. But I guess maybe the way that we can start with this is Ben, which of these rule changes sort of struck you the most either in terms of their impact, positive or negative or the worth that's still sort of remains to be done to get them up to snuff to introduce at the major league level. The one that seems the most immediately applicable major league level and I think I'll start there and go down that way is pitch clock. Yeah. Why isn't there a pitch block in the majors? Yeah. It's really, at this point, it seems pretty clear that it would work that it would reduce the kind of games that it would, if nothing else probably result in higher contact rates as it did in the minor league levels were as tested. It's been tested a lot of places as Ben and rob pointed out in the article, including in spring training, I guess in 2019, I don't remember that personally. Which is a good sign that you don't remember it. Yeah, exactly. In any case, I don't think there's much argument that introducing a pitch clock would reduce the time of games, most players in the majors have played under a pitch clock. So what's stopping us and not quite clear is it a union objection? Well, yeah, I don't quite know what our what our issue is here. I mean, I do think that this piece acknowledged an important aspect of this, which is it's not enough to simply introduce the pitch clock, like you really have to do work to then enforce the pitch clock because what has happened for a number of these leagues that have tried this is that the first go is great and it reduces time of game, but that time of game tends to creep back as mostly as players like find ways to circumvent this rule. Oh yeah, like the no step up rule, and then everyone just steps out. Yeah. So it is the sort of thing that it is not enough to simply require and then set it and forget it like you have to keep you have to be diligent to maintain those gains over the course of the season and part of this I think is that the 15 second pitch clock is a reduction from prior versions of the pitch clock, and then it seems like it was a really big enforcement priority for umpires as they note here that they sort of closed all the loopholes that existed in prior versions. Oh yeah, totally. Like the stepping off the reset the pitch block. Yeah. That's not gonna no. You can do that. Right. And so, you know, in double and triple-A, they've been able to do that, but in low a west, they could only do that twice before a Bach was called. So I want us to read you the Bach rule and come up with a new word because I never feel like I'm saying block correctly. Do you have this problem? I always feel like I'm mispronouncing Bach, like I'm sounding. Like I said, it doesn't sound like a word. It makes me sound..

"I wrote about moving back in mid march and that was before it was officially announced that the atlantic could be doing that this year. I think that announcement came. I don't know maybe th in the weeks or months after that article came out and this was something that they had talked about doing in twenty nineteen that they were going to implement a two foot move in the mound and the atlantic league at midseason. And that didn't end up happening in the sense that i got when i was working on my piece earlier. This year is that basically. They were worried about players. You know having workman's comp concerns or or having injuries occur and basically that players would not be happy with this change and that there would be a lot of objections and so they didn't end up doing it that year and then they did this year but only half of the distance just a one foot move and even so hit did not go over well so tell us a little bit about what you learned about how players responded to this both when it was announced if they were even aware of it at that time and since it went into effect earlier this month. MLB will use experimental rule changes in 2021 minor-league season

"So think if. Somebody's baseball ideas. Major league baseball spring training. Well do it now. Almost into it's not quite as third weekend but yeah what they're doing is major league. Baseball's got every level of minor league baseball trying out rules. New rule changes that if they go well they might consider implementing it the major league level. So it's basically test time. Experimental rule changes so. Let's go through a few of them. Yes all of it though. Just just to preface it. Steve the backstory hairstyle. Nice is they want more balls in play. Okay how can they. How can they get more ball. That that's what i read today right and it's also increase the pace of play. That's always something that every league is concerned with given they're trying to attract the youth and the youth probably has less attention span than any generation in history but Let's go through some of the minor league ball rule changes and a couple in particular that we wanna talk about. But we'll go through them. Triple a ball. Which is where the ottawa. Lynx us to play you can have larger bases. They'll be eighteen square inches instead of the usual fifteen and so that means your distance between basis is a little shorter three inches this just in and they're hoping to increase stolen bases with that aa ball. They're going to ban extreme defensive shifts. The deal is you have to have at least four defenders on the infield and they have to be all of them with two feet on the infield dirt enable inaba step off. Rule pitchers are going to be cold for a balk of they. Don't completely disengage from the rubber before throwing to a base and that's designed to increase stolen bases as well you've also got an ball pitchers limited to pick off attempts per plate appearance and if the pitcher tries for a third pick off and the runner is safe. He'll be charged with a bach. Because they we all agree that that thr- over the first base after a while it's pretty damn tedious but the two changes that will be happening in low able will be automatic strike zone systems previously used in the atlantic league in the fall league and the league is also set to use additional timers to increase the pace of play as well including between the delivery pitches and those two big. Those two things could be really big if they work in minor league ball and eventually end up in major league. Paul and those to me are the two biggest ones to me. That's like is a massive change. Stephen baseball if you have a consistent computerized strike zone be no. You know what i mean. No doubt about it. I watch games last year. Where you know even the announcers right you. You'll see a game where where the party out noise calling that low on. You know what he's calling it a strike he's calling it a strike that low on but then i saw them where it was. Just so willy. Nilly you know what this guy was calling and batters get it. You know you're just you're strikes on a little bit these calling the low on us highway one. But i've seen them where it's just knows what they're doing and its way out of the frame that they put up there now. That's a huge change. That'll make a big difference a bit. That'll nothing with the speed of play. But you know. I think it's the most significant thing ever. Yeah yeah. Baseball needs to keep evolving. All sports. Do though

"With the pandemic. And all that stuff going on open to Make my first events back as a sports writer. Getting out of semi-retirement kind of doing that at the end of June as of right now. So we'll say Mike. How do you see as we as we slowly start to wrap up your? How do you see the journalism industry changing? I mean there's going to be newspapers that don't come out of this. You know we hope the yours do. But how do you see the future? What do you think's GonNa Happen? Oh Man It was a dying industry when I got into it. It's a dying industry now Just a matter of how what the I guess. The the degree of fall is going forward. Obviously none of this is going to help I hope I have jobs to come back to when it's all over I don't know We will find out together. I suppose But even when I started like kids some kids like look up to me for whatever reason who knows why and they asked me for you advice on how to get into this and all that stuff my first thing. I always say have a backup plan because this is a is not for everybody and either so few jobs and the pay is what it is and there's a whole separate conversation on that. I'm sure but as a very very difficult thing to get into and you really especially now really really have to love it if you WanNa do it. Just it's such a dying dying thing these days which is Kinda sad to actual real journalism Especially at more or less the only guy really covering the Atlantic League anymore and I wasn't really that way when I got in there. Almost every team had daily print coverage. And it's really not even our paper doesn't have daily coverage anymore. It's like once or twice a week so just to see what it was when I got in and it's kind of become now Is is mostly sad. But there's for the places that are still doing good journalism support that because that's where you're getting all your facts where you're getting all your information and for you know whatever your favorite paper or magazine or podcast never sport that I mean. There's a lot of work that goes in this a lot of bumps there's a ton more work that goes into what you guys doing with this podcast new. Imagine 'cause I know there is the one that I'm doing so For people who are actually putting in work and doing good journalism make sure you support that especially right now with everything that's going on so you can be informed. Woolen it's hard people in this is what blogging. Did you know? Starting ten twenty years ago is that people now expect to read everything for free like the writing has been devalued and it's it's sad that no like real writers. It's it's a highly difficult skill and churning out like good articles over and over and over really really hard people. Don't appreciate it not to mention. I think people are more people are worse writers than ever. I think this is. There's actually fewer people that can actually probably do the job. Well so she start when he's right. Jumping around medium like medium DOT COM is really interesting. Place do much familiar with medium a little bit. Yeah it's such a weird so medium if you're out there is sort of like a social media platform for blogging. So if you WANNA you don't want to have your own website and you don't want to start your own blog you can go medium. Make an account and they this like really nice editor is just like a clean. It looks very professional. Like just like a New York Times article and You can make an account right your first article today. And it's on medium when you go to medium dot com or their APP is have you know it's a newspaper sort of lay out just like anything else of just people that does right stuff for free and there's like little clubs within it sort of like you can be part of like a tech group and write articles within that group..

"Desire to have a full season but whether it was nineteen ninety five whether it was either strike years before that we have seen years in baseball weather have not been full seasons that have still never the last been successful in the idea of stretching into December means you would have two months of only warm weather location or down stadium games and to leave the fairness issue comes into play there for the cold weather cities are they really going to be on the road for that long that's a hard thing to ask of a team to do I mean I I you know I remember back in two thousand one I was interning at the Newark star ledger and I was covering the Atlantic league and there's a team called I believe if they were the the Lancaster Barnstormers and it was the team that did not have a home stadiums on the road the entire season and that is a mentally taxing and draining thing to do now extending the season through November maybe a week or two after November at neutral locations it yet that I can be on board with the throwing another six weeks after that just to complete a full season I'm I'm not quite there yet so if you don't go deeper into the calendar you could potentially squeeze everything in the current dollars so if you don't go later here's the math for getting everything in if you average nine games per week a team could play a one hundred sixty two game schedule over the course of eighteen weeks that would be eight weeks fewer than a regular major league baseball season so that would mean that MLB could start as late as July and play a full schedule by extending the regular season through October.

"To baseball and things are getting a little bit weird and baseball's Atlantic League. We spoke in a recent episode of how they've decided to go with automated balls and strikes basically a roble hump. They've got the track man set up. They've got a guy in the press box who can read it on on his ipad and then he just radios down to the empire who's got like an earbud on and says ball or strike. It doesn't end there though in the Atlantic League is basically the highest league of Independent Pendant Ball and Major League baseball is basically using the that league as their personal chemistry set and <hes> and just using them as trial balloons for all these different things and so we knew about that one what I didn't know is some of the other things they were doing and that is all their prohibiting defensive shifts. They're going with bigger bases. They've got a ban on mound visits like if you go to the mound <hes> you have to replace the pitcher. There's only one one way you can go to the mound and that's with the game plan to pull the pitcher out so a catcher can't go out. You can't go out and chat so the year basically killing time for the next pitcher to warm up so <hes> got a ban on mound visits shorter shorter breaks between Innings <hes> the three batter minimum for pitchers so when you come into a game you're not going to face one guy and leave again. You have to stay for three batters. <hes> of your and lastly <hes> now you can steal first base. It's already happened a few times in the Atlantic League stealing first base so basically from second or something I it's a great question. I had to look it up so the way it works is and again Major League Baseball is considering all of these ideas. That's why they're there so if a if a pitcher throws a ball it's up to the catcher to catch that if if it's passed ball with the ball gets away from the catcher the batter even though the count may be one ball no strikes he can just take off to I if that ball gets away from the catcher wow which is equivalent whoa. They've always been able to do it on third strike right yeah absolutely well. You know what Steve This is. This is stupid the stuff you're talking about here. I mean the great. One of the great things about baseball that I hi like is the strategy. You know it's it's clever man. It makes the game when you got a manager all the charter that they're doing. <hes> you know you talked about. Defensive Shifts that you're not allowed to do well. That's ridiculous. That's how are you going to measure that measure that Hey Eddie step you step eight feet left. You GotTa hold that spot rather. What do they come out and put a big X with scraping? Okay you can't leave. That's what it's ridiculous. I don't know if they're talking the outfield. I assume certainly the infield and the changing pitcher thing that rule of they have to pitch to three batters come on they think how that can possibly backfire think think that could be just ridiculous lefty against a righty and and so you change your pitcher. You know that's what you do that. That's that's stuff. I like about the game. I like it about the game. What do you think about stealing first base yeah? That's not a bad one. That's not a bad one. You know I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that. He is still get thrown out. It's not an automatic. You still got to get the first base in time yeah. I don't mind that I I don't mind that they can still can still first base anytime they want. They can you want to do it after the guy throws a strike and the catcher gets you take go ahead. Go ahead. You know that's not bad. That's actually not about changing yeah. I agree any point at any point. There's something could happen. I I would like to see that in practice. I'm not sure about it but I do think it wouldn't be bad so gets a little weird in the Atlantic League. It's also getting a little weird at Phil Castles Place. His home is for sale of course because these weird after several years with he's a weird dude. <hes> seems to be anyway after several years with a Pittsburgh Penguins now a member of the Arizona coyotes and so as homes for sale and so real estate puts out all kinds of photos to market the home and let people know what it looks like inside so if they want to call visit and social media's having a little fun with these photos for a number of reasons he's got this awesome like man cave with this big giant screen and it's completely empty except for one tiny little lonely chair there which has everybody thinking that Phil has no friends and it was going to called on social media like the saddest loneliest man cave they've ever seen with this one single chair sitting there <hes> so that got everybody kind of smarting. There's also in the man cave movie posters. I think I saw a movie poster of wedding crashers and maybe some fills favorite movies and one of the movie posters was Mariah.

"Way the game is played at the highest level as part of a three year agreement with Major League Baseball the Atlantic league is testing out a series of rule changes to speed up the game make it safer for players and to give it more action some changes like decreasing the amount of time between innings are small all others like letting batter stew first on any wild pitch and having a radar track strike zone a revolutionary and they come as baseball is in a demographic crisis with only nine percent of Americans listing it as their favorite sports to watch according to a Gallup poll released in twenty eighteen baseball has tended to skew older in terms of its following and this group of owners and the commissioner would like to see it start to skew younger that's Rick white president of the Atlantic league of all the changes the radar tracks strike zone is probably the most eye catching it uses what's called the automated ball strike system to determine each hit or strike zone and communicate whether a balls inside or outside via in your piece of the home plate umpire it all stems from a white says is a constant pressure for accuracy in equity everyone in professional sports but especially Major League Baseball wants to create fairness and objectivity as opposed to a disparity between one player or another or their performance bees manager more oh god so is against some of the rule changes but he likes the radar tracks strike zones dealing with the grab bag of different strike zones is an everyday struggle for him as a manager as far as you know what what you see from the umpires it can change from the beginning of the game to the end of the game just on the intensity of the game bees pitcher Corey reared and knows their baseball purists who cling to tradition but he says.

I'm sure you already know that every MLB team since two thousand six regularly on TV games runs. Pitch f x tracking software developed by sport. Beijing but up until now that pitch data is only been used to grade the performance of Pires after the fact and never used actively in gains. The Atlantic league is deploying a newer radar based system called track man which claims perfect accuracy. Even though they're still it up higher. Standing by in case anything goes wrong. Who knows maybe it's time. Just this week the considering disappointing fire who lost it at nearly inside a fight with players posing dugout over some clearly awful strike calls. The kind of thing that could never happen with an emotionless robotic up fire strike. I promise you'll never be checked it by baking. Call and follow it. What are state the Boston technology? Stuff. "I these are rules that are going to be implemented in the Atlantic league. Which by the way is a pretty good independently started here in the northeast do. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York got a team the Long Island ducks. I some reason they put a team in Texas. Doesn't sit didn't seem to make sense. Still doesn't make sense to me. They've had franchises joined the league drop out of the league comeback in his I think two out of the original ones over the twenty years at the league has been in existence. I was kinda bombed because I had a Atlantic league team. Twelve months my house. It takes me fifteen minutes, my house into photocopy a proper and the field that was in Camden, New Jersey overlooked the Benjamin Franklin bridge, which ran from Camden into Philadelphia, so fourteen miles somewhere there abouts a really nice minor league stadium. Campbell's field was the name of it. Campbell's has a major plant right down on. The Camden waterfront there, and they helped kick in money and bought the naming rights for the field and add the Camden Reeb river sharks for years, and they went belly up, which was unfortunate because it really was a quality stadium. I've been to minor league stadiums all over the country. And this one was as nice as most as nice as the stadiums that they have down in Florida and Arizona that major league games during spring training. And they just couldn't make a work, which was unfortunate. Probably. So many entertainment dollars to go round and Philly is it is as I said just on the other side of the bridge and Phillies a diehard Phillies town, I was disappointed. They could make a work went to a bunch of games staff over the years, but they no longer play in Camden. They redid the field. I guess Rutgers Camden, it's a spinoff university of Rutgers University, which is up New Brunswick, downing Camden. They've got a campus as well. And they've got their own athletic programs and not the same as Rutgers University itself in the big ten. They bought the field and turned it into a baseball slash softball slash soccer field. Which was it was a great stadium. I bummed out by the Atlantic league is got into bed with major league baseball. I guess MLB reached out to him and said, listen, we've got some rule changes. We're contemplating. We don't want to do it. We're not going to do it on a major league love. We'd have get okay. From the players to be able to do something like this. And we're not going to be able to slap it together. We're not even sure we want to do with our minor league teams. Minor league teams were working on other things developing players. We're not sure that we want to do. So would you like us to fund the Atlantic league? And you accept the rule changes that we want you to implement for us. And apparently, the Atlantic league said fine. They're not doing this out of the goodness in Iran. I can tell you that because they are as I mentioned earlier at least in part competitors. Because Atlantic league teams are within some kind of distance of a major league team. And we're gonna win. When Orlando bleed game you're not going to a major league game. So they they shouldn't really wanna be helping each other out the only way it works. Is somebody's writing a check. So without having seen the finance agreement. That's in place. I'll speculate for you. Oh, MLB wrote a pretty good check to the Atlantic league and said we'd like you to implement these rule changes. So we can get a firsthand look at them in practicality on the field. So we can make a determination. Whether we'd be good for our game. The game on is the pie levels. No mound visits for anyone other than the pitching coach for. Other than excuse me for pitching changes or medical issues. So the pitching coach can't come out and talk to the pitcher anymore. The catcher can't go out and talk to the pitcher anymore. The patriots gotta be out there on an island by himself that is certainly targeting pace of play. They want to speed up the game of baseball. I think it's a little over reactive. I'd like what they did last year. Limiting the numbers of visit. You could have rather than white them all loud. I think that's an over. Stap in trying to speed up the game. So I don't like it. But I understand it yet about pace of play the elimination of most defender of shifts by requiring to infielders on each side of second base. I like I sign off on it. I don't like it because yes, you're limiting defence. And defence should be part of the game. You're handicapping defense. But in professional sports, they put rules in all the time to protect teams against themselves that they've gotten so good at crunching the numbers and figuring out when and when not to share that it is hurting offense in baseball. 'cause shifts do the job that they're supposed to do and limit deadpool laters and take basis away by having guys properly placed defensively on a diamond and baseball wants more offense. So it should be easy to say as little just tell the hitter to hit them where they aren't that makes sense. But major league baseball doesn't want to ask that the players. They want to have them. Go up there and swing it. So they are kind of plating eliminating shifting by keeping to infielders on each side of the diamond. That's to increase offense in major league. Baseball three batter. Minimum for pitchers barring injuries. I think that plays into pace of game as well. Because the managers are just going out there and changing pitches all the time and having to have thirteen patriots on a twenty five man roster. You got nine position of your in American League. You got ten ten position to Bill including designated hitter half of which you're gonna use for just one position and the other half were all of the positions. Well, they can limit the number of pitches. Are you being used by going with? I'm like this. And I laid out my staggered approach that yes, this could be implemented for the first seven innings every game. But in the eighth inning give demand. You're a little bit more flexibility. You only have to pay to hitters ninth-inning win the game. Truly is on the line. We only have to play face one hitter. If you wanna pull a guy right away. I think it really will. It keeps the essence of manner. And strategy in a game exempt as a matter of fact, I think it adds to it. Moving the patriots a back in additional two feet to sixty two feet six inches comma during the second half of the season is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard of in my entire life. We can debate how much moving the rubber back. Two feet would do. Yes. The balls gotta travel longer. You can't throw it as hard. It can be as hard coming out of your hand. Is it was? But it's got a slowdown gravity is gonna take home. So ninety nine could become ninety seven ninety five could become ninety two. It should make it easier for the headers adjustment period for the pitchers as well. I think that's good again. I'm ready willing and able to take a look at that. In the middle of the year is asinine. I never heard of anything like that. First of all, what are you gonna do? Take two weeks off and fix all the fields. And I know by the way, just tell the pictures. Yeah. Go out and throw from two feet further after Dave. She worked on getting emotion. Exactly. Right. From say, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you're going to do something like that you need to implemented over time not changing in the middle of the season and a one that annoys me the most the use of track man radars to assist home plate umpire, calling balls and strikes. Assist. Somebody needs to explain assist to me. I think you meant to say replace home plate umpires calling balls and strikes because if they put radar in if they put lays in the empire's can no longer make the call a laser is going to make the call, and I didn't grow up playing video games. When I was a kid, we had this novel idea if you like sports, you went out and actually played them rather than sit in front of a console and a sixty inch television with a joystick in your hand. So I was never a video kid. This was feels like to me major league baseball would become joystick time that lasers are deciding to game rather than actual play individuals humans umpires I like instant replay ever call is wrong. I want to get it. Right. You have to have some implementation with actual human beings. And I think the empire's do as good a job as they can call him, balls and strikes. So that's one I will you'll never get me to buy. I'll never give up the game. I love major league baseball. But I will watch it with less pervert, if they go to this this one as as Eddie addic- is changing the length of the pitch in season as dumb as that is. I do that before we go to lasers. Call him Baltin strikes. Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four. What do you think? Tom from Albany is up on CBS sports radio. I tommy. Hey, Jodie next taking my call. You gotta but with all the pace of play stuff. You know, the one thing I'll tell you. Now, this is an admittedly small sample size. But everybody I've talked to my friends who are based. Okay. And I've heard it in other places too. I think you're on the you know, you're saying the right thing with it's the pace of play not necessarily the game. But I'm telling you right now from you know, from what I can tell with no callers on sports radio. It's the biggest thing that is getting people away from the game. And that they hate is the schlepping in between pitches that is you know, all the other changes that they're that. They're thinking about and trying to implement their great. But you know, the one I'd like to see and I'm a huge baseball fan the whole night. It's my favorite sport. I'd like to see the pitch FOX. I really would. And listen we've known that in the game of basketball implemented any number of rules to just get the players to play the game. There is the twenty four th you know, there's the shot clock. There's the inbound rule. There's the half court will there's the three second rule, you know, the play clock and football. Yeah. There's a play clock. And you're just to get the players to get the game going. And that to me is the biggest thing the pitching changes. You know, I see where they're coming from one. I think they did a good job in terms of limiting the mound visits gazette was contributing to the schlock put well, but the big thing is the Nomar Garciaparra stepping out, and you know, tying batting gloves in between each pitch the pitcher walking around on the mail bag five times. It's that's the big thing that more than anything. I really don't mind the three and a half hour game. And I'm hearing more and more people say that as well. It's just they have to get you know, again, you've probably heard this before you've probably seen it before. And you remember you go back on any one of the. Yes. Number up here. And you watch the Yankee classes games for the Yankees always win. It's yeah. I mean, you watch any of those games like they Righetti perfect game or any games from the nineteen nineties pre strike, and you just it's it's almost amazing. You know in I was in my teenager, then..

"That's what I deal it here to the rules. This look the pitch clock speeds up. It'll get baseball back to where used to be when it actually wasn't astronaut pastime he could play an American game too. And. The half just other thing with these how many pitches you face. This is stupid. Yeah. So we're in agreement on this in the sense that one is a function of time and we eat up the game and the others function strategy, and we don't wanna mess with strategy. They think that's going to speed up the game. But it isn't. Okay. You don't mess with strategy. I there is something that is intriguing. What there is an independent league affiliated loosely with major league baseball called the Atlantic league. Coli Atlantic -ly, this is what they're going to fall around with changing the distance of the mountain. No, oh, no. I like going back in. Oh, you gotta go back because you wanna slow down in his twenty eight twenty four it will be live Davidge more balls will believe the dimension of and was alone. The back of foot. You know, how you speed it up and baseball seems to be willing to do. This shorten commercial breaks to they're willing to eat the money on their bosses that would be good. Know what to do it? Then if you're pay gets cut. If your pig out of my Bill Beck. Let's brain pitching mound. Back the second base of input pooling little people coming up little if Duke loses without Zion. Does it really count? Are the raiders right to pump up? Derek carr. You don't any religion to Roger Goodell. Danny was felt like. It's time for the game. We found on a shelf behind a box in storage closet, something or nothing. Let's get the first one from sports television legend, Michael Ray will Bon that's Hugh. Something or nothing. Dukes lost last night. Without zayante watched all of it nothing. I put it in the same category as their lost North Carolina. These are very good team ten and North Carolina. They are ranked teams. He's the best basketball player in college basketball. We assume he's going to play again, if he played in either of these games the line would have changed by ten or twelve points. It's something it's a big something is not because I on was out, although for junior take head its way around the basket as did North Carolina without Zion. If he gets back, but Tony he can't shoot two three. And apparently nobody else on that team can Duke is like below number three hundred in the country in three point shooting. And if you can't use the three in this day and age burnt way the game is set IKEA with seven new. Minute to go not gonna win seventy shoot. What's next something on nothing? My may, yuck. On Derek Carr. He's a franchise quarterback. Yeah. This is something. I mean, I'm giving understand that Mike Mayock speaks for Jon Gruden near. This is a direct quote from. I think Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback. I don't know what more supposed to say. I mean, if Patrick Mahomes comes available, of course, go get them. But this indicates to me they're not in the market to go in the draft for a quarterback. And they're not in the market to go for Nick foles. First of all, this is nothing and it's stupid because if you felt you had a franchise quarterback, why the hell did you trade your franchise live, backer and your franchise wide receiver last year? So they don't even believe this junk. Okay. And it's junk with people are out there pronouncing in the middle of February. That somebody's a franchise. Somebody's a number one. Somebody's going to lead us. It doesn't mean squat do enough. Some it's a big. Fat noth-. What's next something? Nothing. San Francisco Giants have their second meeting with your boy. Yeah. Bryce harper. I want to say this is something because I can't believe it's nothing. I am troubled by all this. We hear nothing out of the Bryce Harper camp. There's nothing definitive. "Baseball some movement perhaps on the notion of rules changes ESPN's Jeff passan reporting Tuesday night that MLB has a proposal on the table for the players union. We're baseball will set aside the notion of a pitch clock until at least twenty twenty two in exchange for a number of other considerations. In discussions with the union also in that proposal. And maybe it's also air Nado saying, you know, what these free agent bonanzas aren't quite what agents have been promising. No, no. But he didn't become a free agent. Not what I'm saying. No. We took putting got thirty two point five the point. Was he stayed where he right? Right. Wait for somebody to tell them if you wait for the Yankees and the cubs in the dodgers and the Mets you four hundred twenty burden here take the burden. His average is over the last four years to ninety seven batting average forty homers under twenty six. Yeah. That's in Colorado. But it's fantastic numbers games. Right today on my podcast. And I said, well, why hasn't Harper sign and he said Bryce Harper is solo amazingly competitive that it is important to him to sign the greatest contract of all time. Well, I'm not sure that Boris and Harper that's fingered on thirty two point five a year. That's that's the number one number right now. I don't know what this means. Well, we're Bryce Harper shorter term. You don't think somebody was signed him right now for three years thirty four million dollars or four years maybe five, but again, we have now you're talking ten. That's the whole point. We have this discussion about Harper all the time as you wait for Harper for three years he could've stayed wash. He could have got numbers. And I don't know. I don't know when he looks at this. Does he go does? He just say what's going on here? Also, somebody miscalculated on the Harper team might be. Eight years two hundred sixty million and has for Harper. The discussion, of course, is about terms now as well as where he will go we heard over the weekend. The dodgers were back in the mix. But they're looking at a shorter term offer for him are Marta Shera says come on now. These conversations that should have been had a November. Okay. What do you want? What are the years? What are the the? I know I signed my contract right before Christmas. I thought that was late. So I just don't understand you know, what Bryce Harper thinks the market the market stocks have changed that much from now until the season starts, and I'm with the Phillies. Tell me if your internet if you wanna be here sign the three hundred plus million dollar contract that you have in front of you. It's not we're gonna move on. Is this a play? Do you think that Scott Boris and any agent is trying to get the most money for his guys out there of maybe using this as leverage to see if he can get a little bit more money out of the affiliates, or do you think possibly that? He doesn't wanna play in Philadelphia. I think it could be both Scott Boris is the best agent in baseball. It's just put it out there. He gets the best contracts for his clients. And he is using other teams as leverage, but there has to be a part of Bryce Harper. That really wants to stay on the west coast. And he saw last week the three hundred million ten year deal that Manny Machado got with the Padres last Friday.
