The Jaguars will host the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium on October 1st and visit the Buffalo Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 8th. The Jaguars were set to play two designated home games in London in 2020, but the pandemic canceled those plans. "To bring this up. If if you've just taken the time to look and see what they've done in terms of running the football. It is pretty problematic over these past two games. Mike davis who is supposed to be there. Lead running back hasn't even gone over fifty yards in either contests. They're they're ineffective and running the football which frankly is a bit confusing in this game. or so. Far with the falcons. Because arthur smith was brought in to be this. This run oriented head coach. Who was the office of coordinator. For derrick henry and the tennessee. Titans where they all they did was run the football at people and they did a really good job of it and here. We are now in two weeks. They can't even run the football and it's not like they're struggling. They're just straight up not producing any yards and part of me thinks that their problems might be stemming from that because they can't effectively create any big plays running the ball or any any good yardage running the ball. This offensive lines not really doing an effective job of opening up any lanes for those guys. So i think like you know just from what we've seen run. The ball seems to be a pretty big issue. For the falcons big. It's a combination of things that you just touched on. Joe won the falcons offensive line especially in the interior parts. They're they're young. They're a little bit inexperienced. I don't think they have a lot of power at the point of attack just yet. They could probably use a little bit better. Footwork cohesiveness along that line specifically with jalen mayfield. Who is there left guard. I believe and then another is. They played the eagles in week. One who just shut down the forty niners rushing attack pretty well at that defense is probably better than a lot of us anticipated. Then they played the buccaneers. Who are basically a funnel defense where you just can't run the football against vida and that front instead you kind of have to force them to pass. Colin davis in antoine winfield. Junior very talented secondary. So i think they just got off to a start against two. Really good run defenses. They're interactive line isn't that great analogous as the giants who outside of allowing russia's to the edge. They've been really good at still occupying the gap. It's really those outside russia's in seems to happen a lot towards oceans minute is whenever he's in the game sometimes with his easels. Your laurie. I mean if we go back to week one that seventy yard touchdown run was was kind of on or laureate would just got bullied out of the spot there so i think i think they're probably not going to have a lot of success against this giant front but i will say if they can get creative and attack the edge every time o'shane is out there. That's the one one point of emphasis. Where i think they might be able to run the football on this giants defense which i still consider a solid rush defense. Even though i think are missing dalvand tomlinson pretty badly as well. Because danny shelton's not as good at occupying those two linemen against zone blocking schemes and that kind of makes blake martinez his job a lot more difficult to scrape over the top. Put himself in position to make a tackle. Yeah i agree with that. And there's also just the lead that philadelphia and tampa jumped out to it. Atlanta was able to make up ground against the buccaneers. But once they jumped out to like a two touchdown lead right around the mid game at that point. They didn't really have any choice. But to abandon the run and go to a much more uptempo offense just because they were even though it was wasn't even the fourth quarter yet they were running out of time. You you can't give. Tom brady with all of those weapons. A two touchdown lead and time. So we're gonna get to talking about this defense to very shortly before we do though folks we're just gonna take a quick.

Taking your helmet off after the player talking. It's not it doesn't affect the play yet. You're given the referees. The power to affect the game. You know they're they. They should be fined and it shouldn't be a penalty on the field. You shouldn't be penalized the rest of the team and viewership the fans you know for god taunting. It has nothing to do with the game. It's not gonna affect the play. The place already over you know so It's something that. I think that the nfl really needs to start considering you know to fly players instead of flag in whatever right amounts strongly-worded email. "Their offensive line's still the same garbage offensive line from last year. They did replace their left guard. Their new left guard is a rookie Some tore up. Yeah but philadelphia. "Almost i so he could go the whole year and then we make it to the super bowl and he gets penalty in the super bowl ends up losing us the super bowl penalty. But we've got a lot of guys and that's why our team is so good because we don't make a lot of mistakes now you've had guys on our team that in this is kind of endemic in the league you know they make great plays great highlight players but then they make a lot of mistakes during the game. And you don't see those you miss a block or if you get pushed out of the way or if you're in the wrong spot you know in the secondary you know you're playing man runs the plan zone or something like that you know. Could you imagine having your feet up watching a complete game just team absolutely just kind of pack up the opponent. worthy better team on any day. And that's josh kind of with. The dolphins did on sunday started with that on saturday already to warmed up for the regular season but it started with Your boy there to lead that offense made it was incredible to watch. I actually had a big smile. Basting how it seemed like bank group that first team offense just could not do anything wrong and this is again exciting victory monday. This was a preseason game temporary expectations you mentioned that eagles patriots game. I don't think the eagles started a lot of their starters. Success came with the offensive line and a lot of that. It sounded like they were crediting to the coaching staff into a time of low of forgetting that offensive. Line up there. Quick having them identify what. They're seeing getting the ball off quickly. Miles gaskins said. Yeah that was the point of that assist this week. I think to a of la kind of drove home for the rest of the office. It's one thing to hear it from head coach bryan flora's obviously wanna do at the coach says but when the head guy the quarterback in the huddle is kind of leading the way. Everybody wants to listen to him a lot. I think it looked good for us to just get on the ball fast. Make sure to keep them on their toes stuff like that. But i think we did a good job. So again. That's a little bit of a testament to the leadership. Saw him very animated on the silent. i don't even know what he was mouth receivers but that was awesome to see. But i think it's a little bit of every spach game slowing down for better offense you know and you just understands wearing to go with the football but i think where you're going with that jake is what do we need to see improvement from. I think You know in the same sense. He has to go out there and he has to visualize what he sees and let that ball rip because there are too many times almost looks like you know he's hesitant to let the ball goer it. "We talked about some of the players that we might not see on saturday. Let's talk about the things. That are most looking forward to when the miami dolphins again host. The atlanta falcons the biggest match up of the week. Something that we consistently talked about. Was eric rowe versus kyle. Pit so jake we hit. We saw the videos we saw. The atlanta falcons showing arrow getting beat. We've heard that air grow. I think he broke up three passes yesterday. Corner sophia dean. So he's making some place. This is at big match up. This is what we all wanna see. Give your thoughts as we. Head into saturday's. Match with the falcons a biggest thought is. I hope to see it for a right and you just worry that you know being such a high level of competition. Both sides are kyle pit scenario battle for a week. It played by snaps in the first quarter. We're to kind of call it from there. In general i mean kelvin bradley. He's another stud wide receiver. You have to wonder. Hopefully know byron. Jones is out there to It was set exhibit. Howard's gonna play so you have to assume he might be out there too. But you could really never gas with brian for us. So i think that passing attack general Secondary is going to be a of fun. Which of these matchups are you focused on. Most because i guess i previewed a little bit there but to me it would be awesome jackson again. We talked about the right side. The offensive line everything we needed to see there. It sounds like jessie davis is starting liam aiken burgers with the second team and salman killing was starting left guard but for me. I just want to see if austin jackson bounce back and show that you know. He is the starting left. Tackle the miami dolphins at he isn't a liability there when again. There's so much uncertainty next to him so that would be my match. Would you wanna see this weekend. I think my favorite part of the preseason is you know you're obviously not focusing hundred percent especially the third quarter fourth-quarter ed. "Locker room changing the way we talk So as you can imagine for. The atlanta falcons a big concern. Is the major losses that they took over this off. Season two separate from the julio trade. They lost their starting center. Alex mack who is now on the forty niners tyler. Hennessy is expected to step in and replace him a guy who we talked up a lot from the twenty twenty draft cycle and then they also lost veteran defensive back ricardo allen as well as veteran db kion o.'neil to the dallas cowboys that is all topped off with the trade that they made with the tennessee. Titans barely getting anything back. Sending star receiver. Julio jones to play for arthur. smith's former team the titans. So this here we are This is a lot of losses to take for this team and that was something that was hamstringing than previously is some of the money that they were tied up to to some of these various players. Julio in particular now they've cleared up some space. There's not really much you can do about that now. Though they're going to have to wait until the following free agency cycle to following draft cycle to take advantage of the available money that clearing julio's contract does for them. But i think all of those four moves alone and they did lose other players. Those four moves alone are a massive hit for this roster specifically losing julio jones who has been when healthy atop three receiver in the nfl. Yeah and pretty much sense. He entered the nfl. But i think it's that when healthy part that is worth keeping in mind with this trade because on the face of it having a receiving duo of julio jones in calvin ridley and then having kyle pits to just throw in wherever now obviously are the folks. Listen to listen to this. Podcast during the draft knows that kyle is a wide receiver just masquerading as tight end. But having three receiving options who can do what. Julio jones calvin really kyle pits could do when healthy is honestly a frightening prospect for defense. Julio jones hasn't exactly been healthy he only played nine games. last year. Only had three touchdowns which scoring touchdowns isn't exactly the strength of his game. He was okay on. Catch percentage was about career average for yards per reception. But you know at thirty one. You kind of have to start to wonder and i think this did way. On the falcons worthy injuries. He suffered in twenty twenty the beginning of his decline and you combine that with his salary cap. I personally would have done everything i could to try to keep. Julio but i can see the the logic in moving on from him especially when you have a guy like kyle pit waiting there and you're going to want to get him the ball as often as many ways as you can. So you know maybe you can't give you just don't have room in your offense for a receiver like julio jones to get one hundred and fifty two hundred targets a season and the thing that was killing him a lot was the fact that not only were they paying. Julio a ton of money. They're paying matt ryan a ton of money they were paying jared a ton of money. Ricardo allen's contract wasn't cheap either. So all of this money was being spread around to some top players. But like just in general. You can't build a roster that way. There's some teams that have found ways to work around that. Like the rams for some reason always have ways to find money to fit in their salary cap. But the falcons did a very very poor job of it and that was what really hindered their ability to progress and step forward. This was a team that was really only built for that small window when they were highly competitive when they made that super bowl run around those few years after that the regression was clear. As soon as there were injuries they had no depth. They didn't really have a young core. There were always picking late in the draft. They could really go out and sign any big free agents to fill in holes. So now you know i think hopefully that that getting rid of julio's going to open the ability to start doing that soon as of right now however you know who the own. The mix is a loss of an elite talented player who has continually required double teams and also extra coverage from opposing defenses which is opened things up for a younger guy. Like calvin ridley to have a good start to his career. So now what do we do. We see more attention to calvin ridley. Do we see more of just a a base defense. And that's gonna make things harder for ridley kyle pits to get open. I think that there's there's a lot of question marks on how effective this offense is and also to like. How good is matt ryan without. Julio we haven't really gotten the chance to see much of that in matt ryan's career. I think there's just a ton of question marks with this falcons team and what they're capable of without him. Yeah yeah julio shows was drafted in two thousand eleven matt ryan was drafted in two thousand eight so that was what two seasons we saw of matt. Right three seasons star. Mathis hardy that those three seasons a decade ago since we have really gotten to see matt ryan without julio jones for an extended period of time it that is going to be weird. Now the falcons have a lot of receivers on their roster right. Now i went through encountered they have eleven receivers on their roster and i think that could be thirteen depending on how they use. Kyle pits cordell. Patterson said there will be. They do have a lot of options to try to find somebody to replace julio jones. I don't think you can really replace julio jones. He's kind of a singular talent but hopefully they or at least hopefully for them they can find somebody who can if not be that number one receiver than being number. Three receiver and hope kelvin. Really kyle kits can really shoulder the burden and pick up the slack that is there after trading away. Julio jones you that's going to be really contingent on their success is who can take up the slack who can really fill in for. Not having julio around to be that primary. Go-to guy for matt ryan. Now if we were to pitch best case. Worst case chris i think best case for this team is that they finished third in the division and some of the other teams in the nfc south one of the other team struggles worst-case. They're going to finish in the bottom of the division. They're probably going to have a top ten pick for just being realistic based on the regressions based on some of the holes that they currently have on this roster inconsistencies on the defensive side of the ball. There's some major major holes that they have defensively but the thing. That really convinces me that. They're going to struggle. Is that if you just look at their competition in the nfc south the tampa. bay buccaneers. Even if tom brady which we've been saying forever. Now if he steps takes a step back and he's not as good as he was last year which he wasn't perfect last year if he just slightly takes a step back that roster is still good enough to be the best in the conference the saints even though they don't have drew brees anymore. Even if the quarterback position is an absolute mess for the for the saints. They're going to still be a very very competitive team because of what they have defensively and what they have on offense. This is a stall well rounded roster and then. The panthers aren't up and coming team based on the moves that they've made by bringing in a completely new coaching staff. Sam darnold might be a step up at quarterback that roster is taking a lot of steps forward and there's a reason why people believe that they could be a surprise team next year because of the the upgrades that they've taken in if they've made over the last few drafts and also over free agency by going and getting a guy like sam darnold so i just don't really see the falcons being competitive enough against any of the teams in their division for them to finish better than last..

That's the goal of these. Episodes is so that you're familiar with these rosters and who the giants are playing. We already did the full. Nfc east so. If you miss those episodes go listen in as we talked about washington the eagles and the cowboys we also did a bronco show but today is the next out of conference opponent for the giants which is the atlanta falcons in early opponent for the g. men so chris. This this falcons team we were just discussing here as we were getting ready to start recording and preparing our notes. This falcons teams pretty underwhelming. This is not an exciting team. This is not a team that you can really say. Wow they're gonna take a next step next year like we were saying with the broncos. Potentially this is a team where they lost a lot and we're going to talk about some of those losses. The first major improvement improvement that we have to note. And i i guess you could consider it an improvement when you change coaches when your other coach dan. Quinn was struggling to get the job done. Arthur smith offensive. Coordinator comes over from tennessee. A guy known for loving to run the football. A huge change in offense of philosophy. Here comes arthur smith. I think that that's going to base some pretty good dividends as this roster has been aging for a while now it's just a matter of shifting direction and if the offensive line can block for newly added running back mike davis. Yeah that i think is going to be something to watch with this team yet. Also it will be interesting to see what impact this has on matt ryan because it is the. Nfl is all about the quarterbacks. And arthur smith was the offensive coordinator for the tennessee. Titans last two years. And over that time we saw ryan tannehill blossomed from really an afterthought and a bust in miami into one of the better quarterbacks in the nfl the transformation he has gone through since getting away from adam gays and being under arthur smith is really pretty. Amazing is something that hasn't gotten enough enough. I would say attention at the national level and it would be interesting to see how much of that ground and pound offense. The derrick henry offense follows arthur smith to atlanta or if he tries to recreate what he had with ryan tannehill and aj brown. Also corey davis. And the that. I think will kind of lead into some of our discussions with the rest of this team in this offense. But the falcons are definitely going to look different than what we got used to the last few years. Now whether that's a good different or or a worse different or just a lateral different. That remains to be seen and a lot of people said during the coaching cycle. That arthur smith was one. You're going to be one of the top. Three candidates that was available so for them to go and get a really good head. Coaching candidate and not really a surprise. Because the falcons have been desirable franchise to be a part of because of the direction that they've been under their ownership with arthur blank. They've just always had really good resources. They've always been well-supported supported by blank. And now here. We come. Arthur smith i think that this is going to pay them dividends but the question is do they have what it takes to actually be a competitive roster twenty twenty one with some really really good teams in the nfc south. And i we'll wait until the end to touch on that. Getting into some of the free agent editions. They had the upbringing in mike. Davis was one that we already hit on who had a pretty good year stepping in and taking over that primary role in carolina when christian. Mccaffrey was out. He started to flash things. he was pretty productive. This is a big bowling ball. Type running back who is not afraid to take some contact not afraid to take some hits and he might be able to fill that role not necessarily as derrick henry but just as the power back that arthur smith is going to be seeking for a very heavy run. Centric power run centric based offense they also did bring in doron harmon. Who is a veteran defensive back. And then the last one which we were debating how we really think arthur smith might deploy this guy but they also added in cordell patterson who has been used in so many different ways by so many different teams since being a first round pick. We know. he's a talented kick returner. He's played receiver and he's played running back most recently with the chicago bears. So that's just an added weapon to the fold and this team actually is doing pretty well in the weapon category. And that's kind of a through line for forever really with the atlanta falcons. They always seem to have weapons at their disposable. You know whether it is the. And we'll get to the since departed. Julio jones but then calvin ridley even going back to when they had mike vick under center or running around the backfield doing whatever he did. You know they're a team. You had to keep an eye on offensively that they always had guys whether it was a running back. Wide receivers quarterback tight ends. What what have you. They're always guys who could hurt you on the offensive side of the ball guys who could generate big plays like that. They've always done a really really good job under dan. Quinn of having some talented guys. And it seems like the whole time. Matt ryan has been the starting quarterback he's always had viable options in understandably. They lost julio jones. That's going to be a massive hit. But they still have decent quality players that can pick up some chunk yardage with guys like cordell patterson who they can get creative with. They can use him not just as a traditional receiver or traditional running back. He's a guy that has shown the ability to play multiple things but their draft. Actually they did a pretty good job in the draft. That's where i think. The optimism is gonna live. Four falcons fans is that the direction in a couple years. I think can be pretty good with this team. Depending on how long they want to stay married to matt ryan if they wanna keep him around or if they wanna maybe try and start over they do have a pretty good young core from the last previous draft and then this current cycle of selecting kyle pits fourth overall is only going to be a huge impact to them coming in a tight end tandem. That is him an hayden. Hearst you also have richie grant who you were telling me before was one of your defensive backs in this class and then jalen may a pretty good offense of lyman. Who's probably gonna plug in at guard somewhere. If they can even fit him because they've already got like a okay veteran lead in starting group for this offensive. Line jalen mayfield. I think is going to be an interesting guy. Interesting case to watch them go from third round up. Because i think that's where the the real meat of their draft is although they do have your guy along the defensive line forder former notre dame player whose name. I'm going to leave to you'd if i audio edgy there. We go audio edgy. He was a guy we we both talked about before draft. He's got all of those physical tools. It never quite seemed to put it all together in in college. But if he's if this new direction for the franchise you know they. They have needed a defense for a long time so there's going to be opportunities for him if he can put it all together to put those tools to use. He could make an impact but just to go back to around jalen mayfield. I liked him in the draft. He was inconsistent. But he's just a big offensive lineman Six five three twenty five three thirty somewhere around there and i. It was remarkable. How smooth a mover he could be a little inconsistent but for a big guy he had a really good bend like he is a natural knee bender. He didn't bend at the waist. He didn't have heavy feet he could kick slide pretty well at that tackle position so he could have some some flexibility in how he develops they could slide him inside the guard. They could try him at right tackle. I i don't think he's going to be replacing. Jake matthews at left tackle anytime soon..
