Atlanta Braves look ahead to 2021
"Tonight. The Dodgers now lead the raise 8 to 3. Game one is in the seventh inning. The Braves were hoping to be here, of course. Instead, they're back home in Atlanta, looking back on the season extreme sense of pride. And what we accomplished what these kids did These young players the experience. They got to go through this phenomenal. It's unbelievable. What we did is here. I think Manager Brian Snitker already looking ahead to 2021.
"atlanta braves" Discussed on Bending The Bracket
"Go seven games be fun. Absolutely so we'll see how it goes. Let's move on into the NFL and we might as well start with the most recent I. Really, want to cover this writing I don't know man I mean this Dallas team is terra garbage. They're so bad. I don't even know where to begin I can't even really put my finger on I. Mean it's the obvious. Is that right? The defense is terrorism The defense couldn't stop in nosebleed. I could've played running back tonight and ran through those holes in that defense. I mean they just they were everywhere cuyler Mary did whatever he wanted to do. He was running around. He had some really good runs he he was throwing the ball where he wanted to. He had wide open receivers This defense is not getting any better they're not, but they got far more problem than just a defense and it look let's be honest the they had these from redact to this didn't just because DAX injured. This is the same team. Of You got water super shopping pass after pass pass. Zeke Elliott after six weeks still can't hold onto the football for some inexplicable reason. Yes. Something's going on with him in mental. Yeah. I just don't see how you know. He's already what would the I fumbled tonight he had already exceeded his season. Yeah. previous season total of lost fumbles, and then he goes out and fumbles again the very next possession. And and at that point he's you know he's hitting himself on the side of the helmet and you know he's on an and I don't know I've given McCarthy pass every week tissue defended him and said you know I don't know it's you think McCarthy's good is just the only working with roster he didn't really have much to do with no You there's no excuse for Zeke to be from when the ball like this and have these issues that is coaching because if you can't coach Z on hold onto the football something simple holding on the football, then you can't coach and he's not doing a good job coaching, their six games and now two and four and you're endanger losing locker room right now on your year one. Your. It's a bad spot for McCarthy to be in and. I I don't know like you said this goes so far beyond this defense and it does show that Dak Prescott was really good at covering up a lot of these flaws. But you know even with him, they will losing. So you know it's It's just not a good situation and I don't really know. What Jerry should do I. Mean. You can't fire brand new coach six games into a five year deal. you've lost your quarterback, and of course, this is always historian. Dallas there's always an scully's. So this season doesn't matter Dak Prescott is down they can lose the next eleven games. It won't be anybody's fault other than up Dak hadn't fortunate accident here say that but it's Jerry and. Jason Garrett never had a team that was this bad. And so you could always, if you could always defend Jason Gear in the sense that seven and nine eight they were right there. This team had right there this team far away. So at the end of the year if there's no improvement, this team is still this far away from five hundred record you still you you really might have looked at. I just can't envision a world where. Jerry. Would fire him after one season especially with losing their franchise quarterback. Early in the season I do see your point and I think a rationally thinking person that say they've say they finished four and twelve But I don't think that that would happen with Jerry and yes to your point with Garrett they never he never had a losing season in which his franchise quarterback was healthy the whole season. Now you can say he was Mr j eight nates and Garrett but eight and eight is a lot better than two dollar in and what is looking like here I. Mean. you know I don't know the the whole excuse that you can just fall back on. This is a terrible division. We can just get to seven and nine or eight nate will this team is nowhere now going to be anywhere near seven minor a note. And even though Philadelphia's record does not reflect at Philadelphia's much better team than this cowboys team right now I mean if you think the cowboys could hang or mount any kind of comeback against the Baltimore. The Way Philadelphia did yesterday in your out of your mind and other not and look Dallas schedule that new many favorites Look they got Washington next week in Washington that game no longer looks like the must mega of a Gimme. I mean the since there there there is no give Meson this eligible for a team this bad you look at Arizona and you think even I thought going in okay. This is going to be a pretty evenly matched game. Of course, they don't have DAX. So that's why I may give the edge to Arizona by a field goal there is only kick their ass. Competitive, and of course, there were the two fumbles by Zeke that that lead to fourteen points. But take those fourteen points off the board. They still beat him soundly and you've got wide receivers open missing passes all over the field. They and these are veteran model she responded seedy. You can't have. No it can't and and look I know this offense of has been pummeled with injuries you know a retirement, but still I mean drew still at the end of the day. There are a lot of other teams that have patchworked offensive lines look at what Carson? Wentz has to work with absolutely nothing you think Carson Winston wouldn't take this patched up offensive line with those receivers and Zeke Elliott may be would burn the League would. So I'm really just it over it as a cowboys fan I just. It is what it is. It is what it is. Team is a disaster they've been a disaster they're going to remain a disaster ensure when dad comes back. If this keeps up, they'll gladly pay him forty, five million and he'll get him to maybe six, ten, seven and nine every year and that's it. Yeah. I'm really interested to see what they're going to attack a really don't know if they're going to get equity wants a don't and the injury didn't help things I think you're gonNA franchise again and after that I have no idea what direction they go in at quarterback or coach for them. It couldn't be a worst case scenario all of the optimism going into the season with McCarthy with a new staff of course. Question marks still with Dak, as far as long term, but he did get the the franchise tag signed well before the season so. This is just worse than anyone could have imagined and and it's not that they're losing close games because they're not quite buttoned up. You know you look at the first game of the season when they play the rams that was a close game that they weren't quite buttoned up for. Okay. So that's acceptable but it's just been an absolute after getting worse every week ever since then. It is and I don't right now I'm not blaming Dalton as much as you might think because Dalton negative free season he's had no time with the offense modest last week. So I'm not putting this as much on Dalton Am coaching staff, and players around and had been playing since we won so We'll see you know if if Dalton looking better against Washington, then you look Dalton had that conversation but I, I would give Dolphin Pash for this week. I don't know like there's so many problems at blaming him as tons of you know it's the lack about this all day you know it is what it is the team disaster and we have what we talked about this at all. There's no defense for this. Now it's it's an absolute disaster. If there any cowboys fans out there and he fellow cowboys, fans may add you that are somehow delusional that this team's GonNa turn it around and make a playoff run or get into the playoffs just lay off the crack pipe at this point. seriously. This team sucks their horrible they are. They have put. One of the cowboys.

"It was life changing money and yes, there's a lot of security in that. But that that was the deal that really aroma league even like I talked to people that just could not believe. It was weird he he's according to baseball reference which might overinflate war. He was a five point to win player last year there. I mean he's worth three times that contract. Oh, at at least I mean. Accused again was value and he he's guaranteed about hundred million and he's not. Two and a half times as good as obvious. Well, I mean, he will be a free agent though even if those two club options are picked up, he'll be in his thirty year, which is not the worst thing. Yeah. It's just the numbers I mean the the length was perfectly fine. That's kind of a normal extension in terms of length. It was just the he didn't really get any. There was no reason for him to sign an extension of that was what was offered. Yeah. The braves are not really sacrificing anything there. It's also replaced on the players standpoint. So on is more power to the braves if you can get the player to agree to that that helps you. Yet. Your team immensely was because I don't think they're willing to go over the top luxury tax threshold like some other teams will right that. That was the thing about this is that I I felt conflicted because a lot of braves fans you know that care about the braves in the braves only were kind of not mad at me but just like you know why why does it matter? It's radio for the braves and like I'm not saying this not it's an incredible the brace I'm just trying to say like it's not a good deal frosty Albee's and you have to try to care about your player at some point and it was just a legendarily bad job anyway on. Helps them. Yeah. Do you remember Peres Salvador Perez for the Royal Sign. Lake. Something crazy like a six year seven million dollar deal with you royals and then he was like the best catcher in baseball for a couple of years and they actually redid the contract with them. Are This is so bad that maybe that's a situation where the we'll feel like actually feel bad but I doubt because the brain home-buying again, they see a a corporate conglomerate they don't probably care too much about, but ASI is on the level of a player that is so underpaid that it's GonNa look just silly if he's if he's still this player four or five years from now, it's going to look silly it really is..

So I love that you can get with that nonprofit. Are there any ways that people can get directly involved with your charity and UV Radiance.com and there are resources on there to where you can request host an event. There's no Nation link on there. You can ask for more resources on skin cancer education and we provide all of that. So just reaching out and sending an email you could also send us a DM on Instagram that works to ourselves directly to me. Those are all the ways that you can get involved. Incredible you guys right now on this link to Ellison bulls not only initiate a Saint Louis native engagement MLB player was a former Saint Louis baseball, but you took her talk all about starting her own non-profit dedicated solely to people that either a have skin cancer and they need to find resources or be that are trying to prevent skin cancer. You actually started this non profit because you yourself found skin cancer on your own body and you mentioned that you wouldn't even have known about it. You didn't work at a young age because most people are not taught about moles changing and whatnot. Is there anything else that you want to talk about as far as UV radiance? That's really all with you be Radiance. We just host fun events and we're always looking for people to donate or other ideas on fundraising. Sometimes we do like a percentage of sales for businesses and things like that. It's like an optical illusion, but it was very pretty. What was your experience like growing up in Saint Louis as a child where you a big sports fan? Was there any type of sports that you watch enjoyed in particular as a kid? Oh my god, of course. So St. Louis is known for being a sport City Cardinals baseball. And st. Louis Blues hockey. I did grow up a Cardinals fan club. I wasn't as involved I was with Blues hockey. I've always been a huge fan of the st. Louis Blues and I still am I actually just got back to Saint Louis a couple of days ago, which was the the history of winning the Stanley Cup. So my mom and I took our Stanley Cup popcorn machine that looks like a Stanley Cup and we put I think we just put like true-life it cuz that's all we had and we drink out of it to celebrate but and then we watched the whole documentary on the Stanley Cup and just tried to relive it because it was the best day ever. But yes, I grew up a page. Hard Blues hockey fan and I think that's just something that's in our blood here in st. Louis Blues fans and Cardinals fans. I've not a Cardinals fan anymore. Do support the Cardinals. I think they're an amazing team and amazing organization. But obviously I have to support my man. And unfortunately a lot of people in st. Louis are very mad at me for that long. He's my man. He comes first. You gotta celebrate the man and show support to the man, but I absolutely love that. You are a Saint Louis Blues fan. It was really tough last year you guys played Boston Bruins my home City in the cop and we thought that we were going to take it and you guys took it home and I actually really enjoyed watching you guys take home the Stanley Cup because I'm well wage, but I was happy you guys want and for the sake that Leila Anderson's you remember that whole story with the young girl that has that debilitating disease and she is a big sale. Yep. Blues band and got to go the games. So for the fact that you guys wanted she got to experience that and lift up the cup and get a ring. I think that is worth its weight in gold and the best friends will come back and win a game like at some point. So I'm very happy that you guys check it home. It's very exotic fiance actually plays for the Atlanta Braves years. He's been in the MLB for a really long time. How did you guys meet? I kind of want you to paint the picture of how you guys met how long you've been dating and then I would ask some questions on how he proposed to you. Yes, actually, it's a really cool story how we met. He did sliding my DM's once before we actually met and to be honest with you guys. I thought he was crazy. He would message me all the time and was like, I really like you like I want to come see you or can come to Miami who's playing for Miami at the time? And I thought he was really nice and really cute, but I'm not really interested in dating an athlete just working in that environment. I wasn't really trying to do that. So he started sending me gifts home. At me like 12 dozen roses and I was like, oh my God, like I have never even met this guy. Why is he sending me gifts? And then he was actually supposed to play in st. Louis. I think it was. Yeah. It was the first week of July in 2017, and he was like, I'm so excited. I'm finally going to get meet you and you know, I was kind of planning like, oh, maybe I'll like get lunch with him or something like meet him. He seems like a nice guy, but I wasn't really like not interested. I just wasn't interested in actually having a boyfriend at all or being with an athlete. So I had actually took a trip to visit my friend who was living in Tampa and I was kind of like, oh man, like, I'm really sorry, but ironically I'm actually going to be in Florida the same days that you're back in st. Louis and then he actually ended up getting traded to Tampa Bay two days before I left to Tampa and my friend was wrong. His cousin at the time and they were hanging out and then he got traded so he came up there and we all hung out and then it was totally a God thing and then I did really like him but I was going to like, oh, I don't know if want to like get into it or like you serious with anybody and the next week he flew to st. And of course, there are people who look at the terms and see thirty five million dollars guaranteed and think this is suddenly a very wealthy young, man. And that is true. He is making lots of money relative to most of us. But if you understand baseball economics, and how much money is in the game right now, which is either go into the owners or the players, then you kinda raise an eyebrow at a deal like this that really stands out among the wave of extensions. We've seen you. And I have talked about what those extension signified and we've done it written. Dialogue about it. And four or five times, we talked about this has considered that there might not be anything else to say when I decided that this was going to be our topic for this right while they keep citing extensions. Just what I think that they're done. There's another one and the Braves ones, I think stand out I the kunia which you wrote about and were skeptical of and then suddenly Albee's topped it or came in under it in terms of just how difficult to fathom it was. And I think that you have to take into account that this was sort of the perfect storm. It seems like in terms of getting a player to sign for less than he probably would have made. If he had stuck it out. You have a player from not a privileged background to did not get a big bonus. That is kind of the constant when it comes to some of the deals that seem particularly blow market. It is often letting American players it's players who did not get big draft. Bonuses who didn't have a big payday, and so they want money now they want to secure. Their futures. And this is one way to do it. So that's part of it part of it also is that may be out piece was persuaded by kunia signing. They're good buddies that came up together, they wanna stay together. Maybe part of it was the agency involved here. It's a small agency with not a whole lot of clients. One of those clients is Craig kimbrel who has not brought in any money lately. And so maybe there's extra pressure to get something signed to have some cash flow. And then of course, you also have to take into account..

And look that was the story pre-game shot you not Kershaw Davey rapper said. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Supposing you win it and you have Kershaw for two and they stay on the same schedule. It worked. According to plan for the manager for the dodgers. Well, it really did in it doesn't change anything for game five if needed both review and Kershaw will be on full risk for you would obviously have the extra day. But I I really don't think it was a roll of the dice. And like Dave Roberts told you before the game the interview it wasn't really about Clayton Kershaw in his postseason numbers. It was about how well hinge hinging review had been throwing the baseball his numbers at home route standing his last three starts he only giving up one run. Obviously the right decision for game. One. Look all the home runs. The dodgers yet. They're not gonna hit them all the time. But did not record led the league in and they hit three on this evening. We talked about the key for them was to go deep because it's what they've done all year long. We knew they were seventy two and thirty five this year when they hit at least one home run. We know they led the National League with over eight hundred runs scored and the reason for that was because they led the. The National League by a lot but hitting two hundred and thirty five home run. It's what they do. They pitch. Well, they defend well now, and they go just quickly for the Braves, and I get to say it, and it's not a knock. They would agree. There was a rumbling bumbling stumbling game for them. I mean an all account that pitching the it just it just weren't. But we shouldn't take that as a team that came from nowhere in one nine two games at assume they're over their heads. Right. Another game. Annabel? Sanchez gives them a shot. Well, you're gonna have games like that. But the problem is it was a combination of everything for me instead of looking tonight like the two thousand eighteen Braves they looked like the Braves the three years before that we'll see what they come out with tomorrow. Well, that's why they play all of the games as somebody once said once again, the final the dodgers six the brave nothing in game. One of this best-of-five LDS for shut.

"I love dick chemicals. All right. Yeah, big addictive chemical guy towards the end of the Hutt seat segment, I mentioned the Atlanta Braves, which is a great segue to our guest today. Mike Fulton evidence of the Atlanta Braves. All right. We're here with Mike Fulton evidence of the Atlanta Braves. The first question. So when I was when I was drafting up the questions for this interview for some reason, the first thing that came to my head was when you played baseball growing up, what were some of the pronunciations that the announcers tried for your last name? Little. We didn't have many, you know, announce going up little league, but this is all telemarketers. And yeah, once you started getting up in high schools like full tentative, some guys didn't even try to pronounce last name that it started with like full and then and then like, yeah, Gary mom there, something like that. But I couldn't probably especially when I was playing basketball on all the way readers. They have some pretty good last name trying to out there. So some gotta do listen. This kid I played baseball with his name was Dave coochie Nellie, and the the announcers would call him Dave Kenichi, which was not valid, close valiant. But sticking to sort of like the the little league days of you who who did you grow up? Idolizing. I, I grew up with Saint Louis cardinal fan, so you know, other guys growing up really starting from Brier got role in did them and shady through all those guys really rent to read. I mean, I, I love my parents where they grew up, cardinals are something so they went the route. And yeah, I kinda get heat about that circum- goal area. So not many people like it. I went to stadium a lot growing up though the great time to watch those guys and then be on the same sealed as a whole, and then got kinda kinda pretty busy. I a lot of those guys that you just named like I grew up allies and I'm not even a cardinal's fan. Big, right. Let's let's talk about j. d. drew. I'm a big j. d. drew guy. What, what? What's your favorite j. d. drew moment. I can't even I. I love everything about him to swing ways to play the outfield love using them and all the video game player and all the video came growing up. I love us in that scene, but yeah, even just, you know, his his younger brother with two, and but yeah, he was kind of under the radar guy over overlooked player that that that did a lot of image. Have you faced pools? I I have not. I I had a chance to pitch out valet there in Anaheim, and I think he might have been on or something like that, but he was gonna come up and I don't get to say, and so, but, but you never know, might be a couple of years to that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You'll you'll get. Would that be? Would that be? Would that be the guy for you? Like as far as a culmination of fuck, I got to the big leagues clearly wanted to do with my life. And now I've got this fucking guy future hall of Famer and like this guy was probably sleeping on my wall above my bed point my life..

Pitch On the Atlanta Braves That that cat through the ball hit that. Man on the elbow he didn't hit. Him on the wrist if he had a throw to end up on the air out of the plate and throw that the real sea might have had a chance to get, out of the way but he hit. Him on air boat he threw almost behind him in his hard to do it. Which way to go he's got his L. His elbow was behind him The elbow with in the middle of of his body that's not running him. Off the plate to. Me that's just my opinion he. Wasn't hit on the wrist he was hitting on the elbow is in the. Middle part of his body When he was Played ball, in a while, but my, hands my, arm my, elbow my wrist everything is out in front of my body when I'm getting ready to hit the ball When you, when you call back if you got. A through a hit him on the wrist he, could blame him for not moving but if you hear, them on the, elbow that's, when I, caught my. Back back anything may elbow goes further out over the plate not back toward my body What are you, trying to get out of the way. When he hit him on the air boat the, ball was coming to fair The run him off, the play I think he would. Have been able to at least get off the plane a little bit what. What he draw back. Hit, him on the air boat and that. Was, coming to me more at the bay part of his, body then. The front part yeah we apparently we. Saw it differently Melvin yeah and I'm. Gonna hang up and I'm listening to say, appreciate it I don't know how being hit. It it kinda hit, him on the arm if you up on, the Bogan. Is rest hit somewhere on his, arm made. His rest I'll give you that but I don't know how that's the middle your body that's when you're swinging your cock. You're bad I'm trying to remember exactly what kind of stance used in his arms were they were, out in front of his body They weren't behind his body said look like he was almost storm behind him so his elbow is somehow behind him I can't even, begin to think how you would attempt to swing now you're trying to. Get, out of the way I. Get that but you would pull your arms back and catch it on the elbow, no the patriots throwing at them there's no question. That he was attempting to come, inside and if he ate him he was. Going to have no problem with them He, did keep down below the. Shoulders for me which is. The one prerequisite you can't. Talk but anybody's head and he. Did that I thought that major league baseball when a little light, on that suspension I thought it should. Have, been at least ten games I thought sex was a, little bit light. And if he had stuck. His buys guns and. Said oh well no I wasn't attempting hit, him I just was coming inside I didn't control, the pitch he could have avoided this suspension but when he threw. His glove on? The, ground, and, basically said, let's, go and he wanted a fight well now you got pretense as do what you. Were doing what the patch so he deserved a suspension you got it. Suspension it should have been a slightly more suspension but he, shouldn't have been driven out of baseball which is an opinion I've heard. From, too many people this week. "Waylon moore was the designer of the original atlanta chiefs logo and some of the original art that sort of surrounded that team back in the late sixties when the nsl was formed sort of as a marriage of convenience between the united soccer association and the nps l we've devoted a couple of conversations to that in the past but probably more famously to other sort of areas of sport and art that mr moore was part of one of which was the unique design for the atlanta braves of the national league and in particular in the hall of fame and yes you can go up there and cooperstown to find it the uniform frankly specifically designed with the event in mind of hank aaron's eventual breaking of babe ruth's home run record so the uniform that he was wearing at that time and promotional minds of the atlanta braves at the time in in in cahoots with mr moore created the design elements so that not only that moment could be forever remembered but also to modernize in a unique way the atlanta braves franchise which was not only ascended but obviously going to whole 'nother level with hank aaron and his exploits in the mid to late nineteen seventies but for our soccer friends out there there's another sort of part of wayland moore's history and that is he was the designer of the original and still in many respects still ongoing and lively logo of the new york cosmo's arguably the the most successful and memorable team in the brief history of the north american soccer league so at connick logo if there ever was one in the nsl that being of the new york cosmos and so we get into all of those things in are are very interesting and somewhat surprising conversation with artists extraordinary wayland more in a couple of seconds so stay tuned please sports history collectibles dot com seems to be an appropriate sponsor i think for this episode because you may actually find some of mr moore's work either in a program or in a media guide i'm sure there's a couple of things in there that you will find among a zillion other coup.
