"Random to the show Yeah it's good to be back with you. I'm not really a guest at this point craig. I think i think. I'm i think i'm a regular buddy in co hosts at this stage so you don't have to commute to the show video. Thank you thank you good to you. Good to speak. I guess always is always as an i love that. We're on video. And because i'm in southern california. I'm in shorts and a tee shirt and you're in northern california in the morning wearing a ski hat. Yeah some definitely must say. I can't complain My family's back in boston. I'm not sure what the weather is right. Now but There's a reason why i'm not there for the winters and this is definitely a good place to be so i'll take the cold. Yeah absolutely. I feel like i'm really turning a corner down here into panga with the help of the community i've mapped out several real key important ridge lines and canyons between here and santa monica. And now i'm i'm really Experiencing asunto euphoria. Because i'm starting to kind of make connections between the two and i got lost on a rotten single-track that lead nowhere yesterday but also found. Just this rad single-track connector that i just. It's a point of discovery of new areas. That i really love when you've got the basics down and you can start digging into some of the lesser known trails. Yeah i'm starting to get that similar. Sense of familiarity with my surroundings have been here only for a couple of weeks. And i had done some writing here before but not much information's on it in the Again you know in the santa cruz mountains. Just north of skaggs point and so. I'm doing a lot of writing kinda to the west of there towards the coast backup. Then yesterday. i wrote king's ridge up in Outside of grenville. Unbelievably gorgeous out there. the grasshopper what is it the super sweetwater and the old caz racists go through their train is unreal and we were on the road the whole time so that i know there's a lot of good dirt but The vistas just unbelievable. Yeah and frankly cinema. County roads are often worse than the trails in my ex. Well i was writing six fifty. So i was. I was in good shape but one of our one of the two people i was with we were riding in a socially distant way. Everyone into we'll be talking about that in a moment One of the people we were with only have thirty. Two's and was definitely feeling the extra you impact and so on. So i was glad to be on fat rubber. Yeah exactly and you reference the grasshopper series. I had miguel crawford the founder of that series. He's been doing it for twenty years Which is kind of crazy Twenty one years. Now i guess and you can imagine what the equipment was like back in the day and in our interview he kinda often joked about. You know you just as soon see a mountain bike on the start line as you would proper road bike and everything in between over the years. In fact one of the people i was with at their brakes. Were starting to fail because it's so steep and fast and so on that just The the compounds in their breaks was seemingly anomalous classifying. Or something where they're just losing breaking power at the extremes kind of sketch. I didn't have those problems. Fortunately and i won't name names in terms of who's brake pads. They were either but well. This is great. I mean i feel like these conversations and the discovery process. We're going through in. Our new locations is on point with what i wanted to talk about today. Yep yep Before we jump into that because it will be a jumping off point. Do also want to talk about a listener email and dialogue. I've been having with the member of the community named silas. He brought up something that i've been grappling with someone. New to an area without local friends is just kovic safe riding and obviously did an interview with dave from unpaved about the event they did and all the changes they made to make covid safe but for for all of us on the day to day we've got to think about how to ride as covid safe individuals and is it safe to ride with others and what techniques can we do and what i recommended to silas is since neither you nor i are experts on this is let's let's put in the community forum and let's have a discussion and see how we can provide information to one another and have a dialogue about how individuals are comfortable in terms of writing with others. Today yeah and it's certainly not something that we are qualified to discuss ourselves You know we're not epidemiologists. We are not medical professionals and so on norway claiming that you know we have actually if we have anyone in the community Who has that sort of expertise can point to articles and so on This would be the channel To contribute to the conversation. Because ultimately i think for all of us including the experts that there is a this is like an an ongoing iterative optimization function. We're trying to find the right balance between you know. Mental health comes through social connection and that we are safe from A disease a pandemic that know is i mean. It's not like ebola so it doesn't have that extreme seriousness but it is serious enough especially potentially to other people that we might transmit to where we wanna take precautions. Striking that balances is something. We're all trying to figure out.

"Is that the nickel cathode that they were talking about the or nickel? Cathode Iraq. One. was was a minus sixty, six percent in investment costs, and eventually a minus seventy, six percent in the processing costs to make that higher end battery I. Guess I don't know if you would consider that the higher end battery again maybe it's just the more we won't call them any of the more higher end they're just more purpose built I guess in particular instance with zero wastewater. But if if that's the most efficient chemistry to make and that's the most efficient and you're getting really good at doing it scale, aren't you kind of confusing it by trying to make three different batteries at that point like kin? No finance I mean. I. I think a lot of people came in thinking okay. Can have this one cell in this is how they're going to. Conquer the world, right but the smart thing is is that there's so many different ways that you can. Solve this problem. I think that's that's where it was talking about before I don't know how the media is going to portray this whole event because it's so hard to describe but. I. On this plenty of iron in lithium iron together can do some great things and they can work in your mediums. Cars is Robert said, but they can all. They can also work on your grid grid scale storage and and keep the cost they were already down or some estimates. So the limiting factors, one of the youtube guys that really goes really deep into this and I believe you said that at the cell level, they were already at about sixty five dollars per kilowatt hour for Lithium Iron Phosphate. So continuing to bring that down, we'll we'll make grit storage sprint scale storage really really cheap in the one of the good things about too is a cycle life is amazing. And so Using that for for those types of applications is perfect and then for Mel's car that needs to go. Four hundred miles in get Asunto College again. That you want the top end, the latest sells you can and. and. That's how you sort of get this to work. I was one of those idiots that Joe was referencing was I thought this was all about they're going to have one battery to rule them all and they're gonNA make trillions of them and you'll just stick it in your Powell and you'll stick it in your car. You're sticking a new truck and they said, no, don't be stupid noise said shut up die said no, you're stupid. So that makes lots of sense to me. One of the things that. Just they also talked about I'm going to bring up now I don't know if it's the right Tom was lithium and I've been trying to find out if there's enough lithium to do all this stuff and we've talked about for years on the show and they were just like totally dismissive of the fact that they might not be enough lithium this they were saying the executives that they've got too much lithium. Themselves bought a lithium mine or it's going to be tuned into a mind, a plot of land in. Nevada that's ten thousand acres that has enough lithium in probably do all the cars in the United States. So did somebody just discovered lithium lost to use a what it's about extracting lithium. So the reason that lithium comes from places like Bolivia and the ultimate. In straight. Yeah. Up there in the very highest because that used to be that used to be the floor of the ocean and it caught lifted up it all dried. So lithium's in ocean water the promise that it's super dilute it. You'd have to you'd have to process a lot of ocean water to get a significant amount of lithium but if you take an entire ocean and lit it all evaporate so that the watery parts are gone the lithium parts stay and now you've got this dust that's full of lithium and that's also in Nevada. But you know going and scooping the top whatever six feet of soil or clay as they were saying from that many many hundreds of acres is gonNA upset some people and and how they're going to do. It is an interesting. We're just GONNA, dig it up and take out the lithium and put back down. Thirty quite that easy but it's just like the Canadian Tyson's it's it's GonNa look great but down in Western Australia. Where our friends are from the Tesla Club there they said that the the mind they're actually has the most concentrated lithium. The team from seawater I think it's actually like lithium a different form, but that's all been bought by the Chinese. I don't think that that's going to be available to Tesla. Well I guess my point was I was really happy to hear if saying is true that there's plenty of lithium don't worry about the lithium. We got all the Lutheran we need lithium's like the second, most abundant a. Chemical in. The. Planet kind of thing. So that was just different than what I've been trying to find out for a long time about whether there's enough lithium to do all this stuff because. He was talking about two billion cars and he's talking about. All the storage for the greed like they. They sorta blew past that they basically were saying. The Way to fix the renewable energy on the grid is Solo Wind and batteries, and we're just going to build enough batteries to do it. and not pumped hydro not. Pushing heavy things up railway lines none of that stuff just batteries baby batteries. And Lithium is they're going to see that because that's their business. To make battery storage. So you know. I mean, you know they're gonNA they're gonNA, try to assert their their will in the market for sure there's no doubt. It will be interesting to see what the ultimate answer is. But in terms of lithium though. In a in a battery currently lithium is only three percent of the overall weight of the self and so. I I do understand. I do want her. Joel Much Mel's face. It is. What was that show? What what you're talking about? Yes ma'am we have that. It's only three percent by weight. There's a really good chart out there that shows. The entire weight of the pack and a visually showing you the different constituents and. Copper aluminum and nickel. Are you know most of the way even cobalt is pretty darn small, right but the and so that's W- at least for the Tesla's it's pretty darned small but really I think the play ongoing from. From..

If you look at the event of the last three weeks last month, and with all the unrest it's going on. I think. Mainly what what I feel about it all is that. Finally. Our side of the side that is demanding that police be held accountable as. More of an offense than I've ever. Seen US have before. We realized that we have some power that that. Perhaps we didn't realize that we had before. as as we begin to see some of the changes that we've been calling for for years so I'm. Pleased about where we're at curious about how we proceed forward at big when we when it comes to their issue of loose accountability that it's a lot more involving GIS back, cops we're. We're talking about a system that is designed to do what it's been doing, and and and were and and we're talk about structural changes that need to happen. for police officers to to be considered by the the public as SP's offices. So I'll know. There's things that I haven't been pleased about. But all in all, it is good to see the voice of the people being heard in the way that I've never heard in my fifty four years of life so. That's that's my position on record. Thank you very much Patrick. Jeremy as a full chief of police. I know that we've been the. We've entered into. This particular theme. And response, which was based on the backlash. And the outrage centered around. Over the last week. Also a lot of changes have been reported. Various different states have said that they bring in stuff about the. Use of excessive fossil changed the way the they've managed that there are some other states that have talked about bringing in different measures trading methods etc.. To change the way how they do this and what we've also seen. Is that there has been some Responses to either cops being. Fired a suspended or charged much quicker than what we've sitting in previous months and years just last week a couple of weeks also. has this. Backlash this. International outrage the pulling out of all of this anger onto streets at various different countries around the world. To think that's responsible for for that kind of reaction to the change that we've seen bearing in mind, people have been calling for these changes is. Undoubtedly I. Think at the Public pressure that's being applied to elected officials and administration officials. Has had some effect I'm deeply disturbed by some of the actions in about that that pressure destruction of personal property rioting. Kind of thing I can't. I can't get behind and I. Don't think that's the appropriate way to respond to it. But when you look at the you, look at it. We're seeing actions. Being taken by prosecutors by chiefs of Police by administrations might concern. Is that It's got a knee jerk reaction and it's not. It's not being done with a thorough investigation because of the outcry, and that leads to the possibility that if they got it wrong in their initial evaluation that there will be redirections of. The actions and when that happens, there's going to be even greater outcry. The the end result is I think law enforcement has done a very poor job of south beliefs. So for the last fifty years, prosecutors are very much involved in that lack of policing and and for law enforcement. Take the position that they're the victims of what's going on to them I. Strongly disagree with and I believe it's a self inflicted wound bed. law enforcement has placed on themselves. Thank you very much. Let's just bringing Scott's. "And Look we've been on this longer than everyone else and that's talking about Lebron as the MVP of this league. Jaanus is having a phenomenal season. Jaanus were selected as the MVP. It's not a travesty. That being said it is far closer than anybody wants. It started to turn a little bit last night. Doris Burke started the charge during the game. Last night she was doing the color commentary. He's been at an MVP level. I think he's got four regular season. Mvp awards and I believe he could have at least two more historically and I know way mean to diminish what John Asunto compo- has done because he is doing it unlimited minutes. They have been extraordinary as a team and he in all likelihood will win that. Mvp But this idea that. This gap is so wide that it's insurmountable. What if Lebron James Sustains this kind of effort that he did without Anthony Davis tonight I just feel like even in year seventeen? Scott we continue to take Lebron James for granted. It feels like it it. It really feels like it because what he did last night the second he came out of that game in the fourth quarter here comes the Pelicans then they start to close that gap in the second he goes back in. They run it right back out there. There's a just as good a case for him is the MVP than anybody else in. This is always say travis what is an MVP what is your definition of an MVP. It's the most valuable player period. Ain't the most valuable score isn't it? It's the most valuable player on his particular team in. Not only that. How how does he make everybody adjust when he's in? They don't do anything when he's out. They make runs when he comes back in. They don't do anything. I mean it. Just that's an. Mvp always have that argument with the people. You all do. I mean come on man. That's cool that you were calling somebody in Mvp but what is the true definition of an MVP and this Lebron James? Because of everything that he stands for when you talk about you go to baseball for instance and you look at a mookie. Betts you just talked about the dodgers all of a sudden dodgers win the world series and he plays like he played when he was in Boston. He's an MVP. I understand. Mike Trout got all the numbers. And he's the guy and he's the number one guy but his team ain't doing nothing and baseball's a little bit different because you need more people things that nature you look at a guy like Jerry Rice in football. When he was playing they couldn't tell the ball without Jerry Rice. Yeah he's the MVP damp e food barber shop moment without the microphone in front of me. It's we're a analytics stats driven league. Actually just sports in general has become so stat driven. That is hard to pierce through when people started talking points per game rebounds touchdowns exotic minutes about what you're asking people to pay attention and look beyond the stats as we're becoming more and more statue driven. That's the reason why it's becoming harder and harder for a player like Lebron James to Pierce through but the good thing is is that statistically he can say I led the League in assists and when you said that you automatically are saying. I'm extremely important to the success of this team and I think about Steve. Nash's back to back in. Vp's the year he won eleven and says and like fifteen sixteen point. Shot the ball well but it was obvious that Steve wasn't on the floor. The Phoenix Suns couldn't score like that. Even though it was his points per game weren't that great he led the League. Says it was the fact that you just looking just just him. Being on the court makes them a sixty win team. That's Lebron James. Just him on. The court takes them from being. Someone has struggles against a memphis or against a freaking Pelican team and it's like Bam their world beaters that's in VP. When you look at when you look at Lebron Thirteen last night and says sixteen. Thirteen Lee had thirteen thirteen. Assist last night and I was trying to. I was trying to quickly due to math in my head but I couldn't between the thirteen plus points plus rebounds and I'm putting all together and I'm trying to account in mind as the game was closing. What are you counting for at least fifty points at least thirty four twelve and thirteen a couple of steals? Yes so when you start. Adding that up and people don't account for that type of production on their teams. They just doesn't happen. You can look at. You can look at James Heart okay. Yeah he's shooting the ball seventy percent of the damn time you. There's nothing about what he's done this season that isn't MVP worthy literally. Nothing in the fourth quarter. Last night he was thirteen. Five in three in the fourth quarter. We had three from nearly a half court shot stress. I see what you're doing know what he was doing was responding desire. I know but when he pulled it the first thing I said man what you Bam Cassi would you look for the two for one but it was beyond the logo because it wasn't straight on right so it's off to the side so it's like for for all intensive purposes. It was a shot. It was just yet. We used to be able to do that. Here's the head coach of the team that they beat last night. Alvin gentry his idea who should be the MVP. I'm.

"It looked like they weren't complaining as much. I was at the game. And it seemed like there was a concerted effort from both sides to kind of let the rest do their thing. And try not to let this narrative continue though after the game dantonio Steve Kerr all the players all said that they agreed with most of the rest calls. They were happy with the officiating. Now, we'll see in you know, in game three if games hardened gets hit on a couple of three pointers whether that continues because going down three o to the warriors is obviously not notch. And so they might be a little more intense. When it comes to the rest tonight. It's weird because I'm looking things up last night. I'm watching the Boston Milwaukee game. And I just noticed that the numbers are very similar for James harden, and Kevin Durant. I want to go after James harden, so much more is it just because of the style of play in the step Bax. And and maybe try to get fouls. Why is it that I wanna really attack? James hardware numbers have been just as good with Kevin Durant. So the first couple of games. Yeah. I think that's what it is. It's the way he plays. The isolation's the holding the ball for for twenty seconds of the shot clock and trying to figure out what to do. It's certainly I think what you mentioned about trying to get fouls. I think is what really bothers people. I think that when a guy like Durant a guy like John Asunto crew gets fouled. You look at them. And they're so big and the way that they move for their size. It's easy to see that they're getting hit or they're getting bumped on the forearm. I think when hardened drives it looks like he's not even trying to score past sometimes. He's just simply trying to draw foul. I think that's really what bothers people about him. How long did it take you to pronounce antenna Kupa correctly? Came quick. What's what's he got good? We had to I I was copying and pasting his name in stories for a long time. These thirty degrees. And they're saying this is a new physical fitness test. And the soldiers though were out there. They're already in shape. They're ready to go. But even then they were in their warm-ups, keeping their hands warm trying to start their hamstrings because they're gonna show us a few things all of us are like wrapped up in, you know, scarves, and jackets, and whatever here's and all sudden, they go anybody wanna try Burt Watson gets in there radical tour guide in there, and Chris Lytle and they did stuff dead lifts. They did obstacle courses. They did, you know their version of the poll up. It was crazy man launching Lionel Edwards and Randy toward did are very very difficult. Obstacle course, I know butchering that name the call something else. But it it takes about two to three minutes to get it done, but involves a sprint in involves pulling a sled in involves some work and the cold air really really hurt their lungs pry for about a it took him about a couple of hours..

"Are you a millennial? I think technically age wise I am, but I am definitely not. So here's what a lot of millennials don't know for a long time, the raiders were the Dallas Cowboys. They were the talk of the league and they were led by an owner named Al Davis. Al Davis was outspoken, he played the game. He actually knew football. He went to practice. He sat in on film and Davis was the challenger to NFL protocol forever. And then Al Davis got really old and crotchety and synapses didn't quite fire. And in the end, there was about ten years with the raiders were the worst run team in American sports. There was a story yesterday that Jerry Jones denied a report. There's an extension in the offing for Jason Garrett. Jerry Jones said, I don't know where that information is coming from. I, I've never spoken to another soul about that as far as I'm concerned, but here's if you're a cowboy fan, what you may worry about. Jerry seventy six. He's not interested in starting over and Al Davis, and Jerry Jones are very similar people. They are very similar people. They both played their both hands on their fiercely independent. They had Super Bowl success early as owners. They are movers and shakers among billionaires. They both challenged the NFL power structure, their voices carry, tremendous weight. They were league agitators, and they were grooming Asunto takeover. And then all of a sudden the raiders Allah got older, became overly loyal to certain people former raiders and they were a mess for twelve years. And they've never, they've never truly recovered and and there they didn't. In that twelve years, they were a shadow of themselves. They underachieved they were no roading brand. You just forget how big the raiders were. The raiders were the rebel of the NFL. They were the most talked about team Steelers won more titles. Raiders were cooler, tougher more bad blank. They were a huge brand twelve years later. They weren't laughing stock. And when I look at the Cowboys I look at Jerry, Jerry starting to get loyal man, be careful about that loyalty thing. Be careful. Be careful about thinking you have the number one brand forever. Al Davis, and Jerry are very, very similar guys. Personalities played hands on actually are some of the fewest owners that no the game a little bit Mavericks, challengers agitators, fiercely independent. Jason Garrett. Nice guy look around the league. I don't know. I do not know. Coming up Vegas rarely makes mistakes, man. Do I think they've made one. They are overvaluing team to an absurd level. Stephen Jackson, Joel Klatt, Jason Whitlock, Tom for duty, still two hours to go. Postseason continues in just a few hours with a crucial game. Five of the NFC s Manny Machado and the dodgers look to build on the momentum last night's epic, thirteen inning win as they take on Christian yelich and the brewers coverage begins four eastern on ESPN and the Fox Sports at the brewers. Craig counsel. The manager challenged couple times last night, Josh haters out there. Hater dodgers got a couple hits off. I'm not sure if he's going to be available tonight. When those baseball managers do all these challenges, do they ever think about this? There's a pitcher on the mound, who's got a rhythm. Like if you record it back and had to sit around constantly sitting around watching and there were challenges and a baseball pitcher, I wanna keep throwing up. I'm throwing strikes own a start. Stop start, stop God too many move too many challenges. Let's go get the game going. All right..

"They're gonna beat. A lot of teams beat Milwaukee and Washington. They're going to win fifty games this year that Boston things a nightmare form, and it's going to eventually unravel Simmons and Embiid who are gonna grow to hate each other. There's just that thing is begging for animosity in beads. Got the Bali passes to Simmons infants. They can't shoot Simmons passes. DeMarco can't shoot. And everytime he passes damn Beatty scores, and the media loves them more and he's a more reticent personalities. He's not. He's a little condescending. He's a little too cool. So the media's not going to embrace Simmons. He'll never be as big as more private than Embiid who's more social man. Boston's gonna be good ho. That is the next dynasty in sports. All right. So for a long time, people may forget this. You millennials by the way Goulet. Are you a millennial? I think technically age wise I am, but I am definitely not.
