Fresh update on "astros" discussed on KCBS Radio Weekend News

"Band. Hey CBS News time now 7 15 we're talking sports a good day for Stanford both the men's and women's basketball team won their game Stanford women beating Florida Gulf Coast 93 to 69 while the Stanford men beat Florida state 70 to 60. College football action today San Jose state will be on the field against Hawaii at 1230 this afternoon. Stanford will face off with BYU at 8 and Cal suffered a Los yesterday against UCLA 35 to 28. The warriors beat the jazz one 29 to one 18 and with some Major League Baseball news right now, here's case CBS the Steven Langford. Baseball's Hall of Fame ballot was released earlier this week and it included 14 newcomers, two of which are former San Francisco Giants. One is Carlos Beltran who had a brief stint in San Francisco after being traded from the New York mets in 2011 during the last year of his playing career, he won a championship with the Houston Astros in 2017, though that season was mired in controversy. He retired from playing after that season and was hired by the mets as a manager a year later, only to be fired without managing a game after he was the only Astros player mentioned by name in a report regarding the team's illicit use of electronics during their cheating scandal on the way to their 2017 World Series run. So Beltran will be an interesting case study as he is the first Astros player eligible for the Hall of Fame since that scandal in 2017. Another player listed is former giants pitcher Matt Cain, a three time all star, and of course a two time World Series champion with the Giants. He was a fan favorite in San Francisco. The NFL announced that 32 nominees for the 9th Daniel art Rooney sportsmanship award, which recognizes players around the league who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field. The San Francisco forty-niners nominee is fullback Kyle you check, who has been with the team since signing in 2017. At the sports desk, Stephen Langford K CBS

"There are a couple of first last night in that World Series, first time in World Series history, the first run of the game was scored via a bases loaded hit by pitch, never happened before. Let's see the Astros are the first team all time to score the first 5 runs of a game in three different games of a single World Series. Bryce Harper, the first reigning MVP with a stolen base in the World Series since Jose canseco gained four of the 1989 World Series. The oldest player with a stolen base in the World Series since 2001, the 5th oldest to steal a base in World Series history, Julie guriel. In case you were scoring at home or by yourself. He's on the astronauts. Yes, he is. Yes, he is, yes he is. All right, we have a Washington commander's bet. Pauly, here's you got only one choice in the bed.

Charlie Welcomes Doug Mastriano Back to the Show

"Welcome back to the program. It's great to be back with you. And thanks for having me on. I like the Phillies hat. It's very good. I think we have some Astros fans in the audience. And I don't know how did that ever? Did they ever have to give back those World Series titles? Did they ever have to? Maybe we could start a trend. Yeah, I don't know. Did they ever have to give that back? Oh, Andrew said no, these Andrews, my resident baseball scholar. So Doug, talk about your race, and then I'm going to let it rip about this latest advertisement, which I think is the private part being aired out loud about a coup in the Republican Party to come after. I don't blame Oz for it because he didn't have fingerprints on it, but it was a lot of operatives kind of in his arena, not good. First tell us about your race and then we'll dive into that. At race is going fantastic. We are in the southeast outside of Philly yesterday for three events that the first event we went to in the middle of a work day. It was standing room only in bucks county. That's like a battleground county. And we're going to flip it red this go around here. We've campaigned heavy and Democrat areas over the past couple of weeks and in a near Pittsburgh in the near Philly in Erie, Pennsylvania. And we always get these massive crowds. I mean, we were talking about 600 people in eerie. We had standing room only in an event in a Democrat working class neighborhood outside of Pittsburgh. My opponent went a couple of days later. We had four or 500 people. I couldn't account it. Like I said, standing room. My opponent showed up a couple of days later. And I think he pulled in a whopping 15 or 12 people. I mean, so. That's a lot more than I would have expected for him. They have to crop in, Charlie, so you can't see the empty room. I mean, with us, we just pan the audience. You know, much like what Trump does at his events so you can see that it's real what we have going on here. And I think it's kind of the segue. This grassroots movement for some reason, the establishment is a terrified of it. I don't quite understand what's to be afraid of the people that we say we represent.

"Loving wife, a devoted mother. She also stole atomic secrets and gave them to the Soviets. Meet the woman whose deception kickstarted the Cold War on the spy who stole the atom bomb, and what if they catch you? Then I shall be shot. Come back. Relive history's most death defying escapes. It's impossible escapes, Civil War, watch now on CuriosityStream, and will plans are $20, just a dollar 67 a month is in CuriosityStream dot com. They're really good. They're really, really good. They have 34 wins. And the angels, by the way, despite their 11 I'm gonna say this again, 11 in a row. Have you ever been a part of an 11 in a row lost street? Unfortunately. Oh no. Oh, I think we're on a team that I think lost ten in a row and one tin in a row like in like a month span. It was kind of crazy. But yes, yeah, let's make no mistake. I have played on bad teams. Bad, bad teams. But I don't think I've ever remembered losing 11 like that's just, that's gotta be feeling like trying to do backstrokes and quicksand. Like, it's just gotta be a nightmare that scenario. But like, listen, despite the 11 in a row, they're still in second place in their division. I mean, they're not gonna catch the Astros, but the team that I think is surprising all of us at the moment because we all agree, even though they did spend some money this off season, they're not very good, but they've been playing okay as of late. Yeah. Texas Rangers. I mean, and, you know, it's one of those things that they've got enough talent now where they can win some games. They got some young starting pitching, Martin Perez has been phenomenal for that ball club. And so, and they've been waiting on him for a while. But yeah, I mean, listen, I mean, listen, you got Seeger in your lineup. You got simming in your lineup as well. They got some guys. They got some guys on that team offensively. So it's not a surprise that they've been able to win some games because just frankly, their roster is better this year. And so we'll see if that lasts, but certainly you have to be encouraged, right? That your ball club is starting to play better. I think you made this point at the beginning of the year. There's still a year or two away from like really competing. There are some pieces that they have to kind of to get right. But I'm not surprised that they're playing decent base. We're playing about 500 ball. Yeah, but I mean, initially, they had three wins, I think, in like their first 15 games, which was definitely setting off alarms, but yeah, they've really put together, you know, around a 500 season thus far, which, I mean, we were looking at them like they were the reds about three weeks ago. I'm glad they're not the reds. But don't worry, everybody, 'cause the red is still the red. So we have some new ribs. You know, we'll see if the fantasy football thing is cracking again at the end of the off season. Yeah, and you know, last subject to touch on, you know, there was a lot of pride week throughout the weekend last week. And it's something I do want to touch on real quick because there were a few raise players that did opt not to wear it. Which is their right. I totally disagree with this. I can't stress this enough. But the reason why is because I played with multiple homosexual players that never told a single teammate or anybody about it. And as someone that has played this game as you have Tony, you know, I unfortunately spent most of my time in the minor leagues. I spent most of my time in triple-A. And I got a couple of cups of coffee, which was great. But I can't stress enough how hard it was that grind, you know, there were times where I lived in my car in my career. And grinded it out. And I did this all while being completely outward who I was, and I had the luxury of doing that. I had other teammates who didn't. And I will think about that for the rest of my life, how hard I struggled personally and mentally through my career. And I didn't even have to hide who I was. It breaks my heart when I think about it because any distraction can harm you in this game or any game. I can't imagine that type of burden, which I don't think is a burden, but they feel it is because you have teammates like this that are going out, putting out these statements. Well, because of religion, I don't agree with your existence. And that's something that does truly irk me. And I hope we can get it. Yeah, you know, we're still, we're still trying to, it seems like as a society. It seems like we've come a long way, but there's still some steps we need to take in terms of inclusion. And you're right, the game is hard enough as it is. And to have to carry that and it's not it's only a burden because they have to, you know, they have to keep it a secret for fear of, you know, what the reaction will be and how they'll be treated thereafter. And we've come a long way, but there's just a lot more space that we need to cover, especially in terms of sexuality in our society. And it is sad. Nobody should have to feel like they have to keep that a secret, but you know, that is where we are and, you know, hopefully we can move to get better. It is sad. It does make, especially when.

"Junior and Odyssey insider Cody decker. Another team that's not getting a lot of noise which is kind of unusual to me is the Astros. I feel like I feel like this team has reigned over the American League west. And I think because they've lost a superstar. It seems like every free agency for the last 5 years. We've gradually talked about them less and less and less. And now it's weird to say this team is 8 games up 8 and a half games up in American League west. And I feel like they're not being talked about at all. Okay. I'm going to put some of the blame on not necessarily you and me, Tony, but I'm talking about the whole media group as a whole. But you and me are definitely partially to blame because you and I have said this on this show many times. We truly thought that the Astros were not going to be winning this year. We truly thought this. All of us thought this was the Mariners turn, finally. We all thought the angels were gonna be somewhat real this year. And we all looked at Correa and Springer Bing gone. The list is coal. I mean, coal gone. Getting back Verlander at 40 after Tommy John surgery, we weren't expecting him to be Justin Verlander still. Listen, and also let's let's not pretend that we all didn't want them finally. I think that has a lot to do with it too. I mean, we really wanted it to happen. So we all tried so hard to will it into existence and unfortunately we can't have nice things. So the Astros are here to speak. We can't have nice things. And you know, credit to dusty baker, credit to that, that Astros front office. I mean, they've patched it together. They're not only passed together. They basically replace some parts that you felt like were almost irreplaceable, right? I mean, Carlos Correa leaves for Minnesota. Then they have all of a sudden have this kid at shortstop that is basically not only filling in the void. He's doing it quite well at the shortstop position at such a young age. And I guess I shouldn't be surprised by what we've seen from the Astros, but I mean, when you see a young kid like Pena come up and just, you know, make himself at home. And then you see Verlander who he does have a little bit of this Nolan Ryan to him, right? It just seems like no matter how old he gets, he'll still be able to pinpoint a heater and when he needs to get a little bit of extra, he can go back in the tank and grab it and find a 96 97 for you. He's going to be a Hall of Famer when it's all said and done. It helps to have guys like that on your roster. You know, can I ask you a question, Johnny? This is something this actually just kind of it's not on the rundown. It just kind of pops in my head. We're talking about dusty a little bit. I don't have a lot of regrets in my career. I mean, I have one or two little things here and there. Like I always think about 2016, I had the choice between signing between three teams and there was one I wanted to sign with and I didn't sign with the cubs, but I wanted to. I ended up signing with the royals, which was not necessarily a bad decision. It was just not the right decision. My other regret was like, I never got a chance to go play in Japan. I really wanted to play in Japan. And my last regret, I always wanted to play for dusty baker. It was like a dream of mine to play for dusty. A combination of my mentor growing up was Reggie Smith. Him his best friend was dusty. So I always thought playing for dusty would be like playing for Reggie. So it was just a dream of mine. And I'm jealous of every player on the Astros that gets this. I had a bunch of friends that played for dusty, and they have made it so that that's all, that's one of the only regrets I have is that I never got a chance to play for them because everybody you talk to that's played for them. Only has great things to say. He only seems to get the best out of his guides. And that's somebody you want to play for, right? That's somebody who gets it, who understands the everyday grind of it. And that can't be said for everybody. And that's the reality of it. And I think you're right. I mean, you had a great mentor in Reggie Smith. I mean, one of the hitting gurus, best hitting grooves of all time, in my opinion. But him and dusty seem like they're cut from that same cloth. And yeah, no, I'm with you on that. I wish I could have had the chance to play for desi, that would have been awesome. All right, now let's get to the story. We've all been waiting for. The angels. The angels suck, man. They suck. They suck. I knew it. We all knew it. We tried to we wanted them to do this. We want them to win. I want the angels to win more than anybody else. I'm not even an angel fan. In fact, the growing up I was a Dodger fan and I hated the angels. Now I'm, I practically marking myself as an angel fan, 'cause I want them to win so bad because I want Otani and trout in the playoffs. More than just about anything. But like I said, we don't get to have nice things. This team has lost 11 in a row, trout has gone over as almost last 30, which is unheard of. Oh my God, what do you think, man? This team, they drafted 20 pitchers last year because they know what the problem is. Yet they have an owner who is apparently a maniacal enough to just spend money only on offense. And this team will never win because of it. I'm a big believer that it starts at the top and it trickles down. I mean, some of the stuff that the angels are marred in, outside of baseball. Is an indicator, right? And you're right. They just have made bad financial decisions. Their offenses should be as good as any. But we all hedged even as they were playing well. I was like, man, these pictures, man. Cinder guard, okay, I gave you that one. So, hey, I gave you that one. But then, you know, the renzo keep this up, I mean, there's just a bunch of question marks and we're all starting to see it kind of dude. They called up a guy they drafted in the 12th round last year. And by the way, he's been arguably one of their best arms. Since he's been up, and it's not like he's been lightening it up. He's been pitching. But if that's the best you're having right now, decent at the big league level, doesn't cut it. It just doesn't. And so if you're depending on decent. And listen, I kind of felt like, you know, even though you're going early, you looked at shohei's number on the mound. They're not like Cy Young numbers. And that's who he was last year, right? I mean, he was that good last season. You're not getting those type of performances, at least yet. And if you're not getting those performances from your ace, it's not going to be good for the rest of the rotation. It's just normally isn't. And that's where they are. And then you throw on top of it, Mike Trout, the world's greatest player, has not hit recently. Now you've got both hands tied behind your back. You already playing with one hand tied behind you. But now you can't do it with you. It's just impossible. And the Astros, as we said, had really good, so. Do more of what you love. Like hug more kittens. And more properties. "To just sort of prove that they're a great team. The counter to that is obvious and that is. I don't think many people doubted that this was a good t- i think anybody who is at least somewhat discerning. Could understand that. Carl's korean. Alex bregman and jose altuve ebay and george springer. Who was on that team. At the time they're good at baseball. I don't think that's the root of the anger. They're upset that they cheated and they did a more lee unethical thing. The astros want to distance themselves from it. They want some of their legacy to at least be that okay. Fine they had. This happened in two thousand seventeen but they're actually good baseball players when you take a step back and you're just evaluating the baseball portion of it and you're thinking about which teams have a chance to win a world series if you bring up the dodgers and their lineup with mookie betts cory seager and trade turner. I would like to submit to you. The houston astros of korea. Bregman to michael brantley one of the best pure hitters mc game your don alvarez one of the best young power hitters cal tucker who has emerged as a stunt frankly this is probably the most fearsome lineup among the postseason competitors. This is a team that has a very good chance as good as anybody to win. The world series and i pose that question to a lot of people on the astros. What would they prove. Can they be vindicated if they win the world's and they probably can't be and in the minds of many people when they think houston astros are going to think the cheaters of two thousand seventeen and this is something that their bench coach. Joe fata told me is as long as the people here understand as long as the people here understand what we did this season. That's ultimately all that matters.

When did they take heartful hartman. I don't remember what year that was to me like. He's supposed to be that guy or whatever you can blink and he can run forty yards. Here's an given out. He's never a fulltime star. He's a he's been a guy that comes in and gives you couldn't they use another receiver assure and it'll be tired. It's it's getting time to be prepared to replace that to give that quarterback another star for the next ten years there's there's no doubt hartman wasn't in that draft there. There is absolutely no doubt about it. All right we the questions for you out. There still is davis mills. Your expectations knowledge. The astros never hit that many when they played in the astrodome is to big belts went deep to let going back on goslett at the wall. And it's got to run home. Run for al to and the astros lead it five to one on all to twenty nine of the year. Well there you have it. Jose pushing that thirty mark. Their brother took him Took him a second because it felt like what was he was like twenty five by the getting of all three years. I mean i thought this was going to be the year. He's got a shot to Pass his career high again of thirty one but you know what he's probably not going to do it but he is only two off the team lead. He's pretty good. Yeah he ain't bad and guess what as we. I know people were sleeping last night. We wake up this morning. The astros of what magic number is now four games. Because oakland doesn't wanna win baseball games down four and even better tampa loss last night you gain one game on the top two and a half game behind two and a half games behind tampa if they finish in a tie the astros that actually have the well. I say that because it would probably require them to win that series. They lead the season series against tampa right now to one. We opened up on a. What's today wednesday astros. Do they ride the bus. Do they walk or does the white the now they walk. Well i mean they walk with us. We're supposed to three miles uphill in the snow in houston right. That's how they welcome brian. Bogus joins us appreciate you. As always if i were i. Guess i'm so shocked and it's happened twice this year. Once against the yankees. Mc pointed out in this series and they lost them both four two one four zero and one oh in bowl series when the astros get shut up back to back days while i don't panic. I'm shocked by brian. Yeah this offense has been so good. I'll year it's so deep you can't. It's hard to fathom that they could be shut down top to bottom. But it's weird game. And i mean logan gilbert yesterday. He's a big time prospect kikuchi when he's right is very good I mean he kikuchi through one hit shutout against the astros area earlier this season. So we've seen him too good. "The i think the sean salisbury. Show continues stocks brian. Bogus seven first round. Pick astros major league baseball player. Great for us you see him on At and t. comes on here. Always great to have him join us. Brian thanks for your patience. On the top of the hour and great to have you on i i know man. You're com you're former player in the poise of it and i try to approach that way too. I may not be panicked. But i'm gonna tell you right now this team forget the word great right now. They're not real good. Yeah no i agree. They're not playing well at all and It's certainly not a not a situation where you panic. But it's also something that needs to be addressed. I mean they're they're obviously having trouble against these lesser teams. You know matching the intensity against these teams that are in the bottom of the divisions and you know if that happens once or twice you kind of brushed it off but when it continues to happen throughout the season it's something that has to be taken care of and i mean this is a this is not just a situation where they're not playing well. It's a wasted opportunity because oakland's not playing well either in oakland and a tough part of their schedule and this is the time that they're supposed to be you know gaining gaining separation. Yeah yeah and they're not doing it and they're gonna find themselves in a situation where they're in a dogfight at the end of the season and they're going to look back on these couple of weeks and say man. We could've locked it up right then. Brian so with that and we on this show about a month and a half ago we were discussing. I don't even know if we discussed it with you but the teams that beat good teams. I'd rather have because that means they raise their game. But when when we're not playing well in in your career and micro when we lowered our standards or lowered our game and didn't have intensity against bad teams. I thought it was a football character problem for us. We need to be better right. And and or either. More hyper focused. Or what have because everybody's getting paid. So i'll ask you know time to panic. And they play well against good teams. And you're gonna face good teams in the postseason but is this a baseball character. Issue is a focus issue when you're not beating bad teams. What's the.

"He wasn't a guy he was that guy. Yeah and and you could tell from the first pitch of that game that he and bueller were. We're we're going to do right. They were gonna go out of that. That felt like for a long time. One of those old school classic pitchers duel and you scratch across one run. You know early in that game and you're sitting there saying alright is this enough is enough where we're going to be able to get by with this or we're gonna need more but the way that lance was pitching You know he put the team on his back. And i think it says everything about him as as a as a person But more than that as a pitcher and his continued developing into a guy who has that potential As a as a baseball guy that analyzes this talent and the evaluates meaning you do how closest fromberg getting back to being from. I mean the command. Got to cut down on the walks. Where's he at right now on your mind. I mean he's just going through the normal ups and downs. I i don't think he's he's not from her or or he is from. I mean every time. I see him. He's he's the same guy I have started calling him from is to in space and getting the t. shirt But that he's he's gonna he's gonna have ups and down all gonna have ups and downs and the course correction that we're gonna put in place that that strong and pitching coaches are working on with them. We have every confidence that he's going to be back to being that guy and if you have him you know in the form that he was in last year and early this year. And then you have lance mccullers you have a hall of famer and zack cranky of an all and jayco to rizzi. You have luis garcia. Who's certainly coming on as a very impressive starter. And then hopefully jose or keady coming back with some big postseason experience. We feel like we have a lot of weapons out there that we can count. How tough was it move miles straw for you really really tough. I i can't. I can't i can't express it was this was a situation. Where your your hearts dummy one thing but you look at the roster and what you feel like it needs in order to being a physician to compete and you feel like this is a tough decision that you have to make for the organization that you have to make for the organization But i think that having jake myers and chas mccormack gave us the the comfort i think to do that. Move until they got like film on. Who's who's been able to get some really big outs for for the past couple of years we feel like with this rosser. We're in a better position to succeed for the next few years. But that doesn't lessen how difficult it was to to make that move and to call miles and explain it to him But look these. Things are called trades. they're not called ripoffs And you know the the cleveland. Indians are a very good organization They had identified miles or somebody that they could. They could use a little bit of a A little bit easier to move giving the state of their roster and this is a baseball three. I think it made sense for both sides But it was a difficult decision. What what was his reaction when you told him he was great he. He's total pro. He was out having brunch with talker. When i call them You know he's quiet and he he thanked us for for everything But but he understood. And i think he was a little bit shocked But same time again. Just a total pro and everything you expect from a guy of of mild straws care Caliber character a couple more questions for our guy. James click astros. Gm here on the west coast. Big one tonight. Against max scherzer astros take three. Oh win last night into this game okay. Are you concerned with bodies of not getting whether it's carlos or jose or yuli enough rest down the stretch before the postseason. It's something that we are managing and it's something that are strengthening conditioning. Guys keeping very close. I on and they let dusty no when guys need a day and With off as that are coming up. We're off again on monday. And then again next thursday and then we have enough off as in august and hopefully with ones bregman gets back to that that allows move the rosser around and and get a few guys extra day off year there. I think we'll be able to to get through it but is it is a constant challenge. And it's something that dusty deals with exceptionally well which leads me to my last question. And we're looking right through it on the the truth serum how concerned are you and we know what he wants to do. How concerned you about the soft tissue stuff right now for the rest of the year with alex. Well anytime you have a series of these injuries you start to worried about it but at the same time allergists on the ability to recover from these things very quickly More quickly than than almost anybody. That that i've been around and so if if we are unlucky and you know something something goes wrong on us the rest of the season he the guy who knows how to get himself back out there We're gonna continue to talk to him and work with them on on ways to get this stuff completely behind us and they're plenty of guys who had soft tissue injuries early in their career. Were able to get past them and and be fully healthy Alex is going to get there. He's either tremendous competitor He's he's always pushing pushing hard to get back healthy and that's the kind of thing that we wanting all of our guys. It's our job to make sure that he's not person themselves hard and and that we get him out there. Get them fully healthy but look. It's a concern absolutely but at the same time. We have every faith our trainers everything knowledge to get factually healthy phenomenal atmosphere. Last night huge win begins again today in joy. That incredible fun ballpark be safe out there. "Sportstalk seven ninety three hundred shot. Saudi show james click and a little more than an hour astros win. Three enough lasts. Mccullers was electric last night in. What was a phenomenal atmosphere. Did you'd be hard pressed even find that In the post season and kudos to good dodger fans who showed up and made that atmosphere fantastic. And you know just to to those who didn't well most of us don't have time for you but you know what one of these days you'll grow up from being a little league parent to the cote two players on both teams you provide thrills and that's why you buy tickets that's why we go tickets to watch two teams loaded with great players who understand these moments and you'll get it again tonight with max scherzer taking the hill against jake literacy all right the garcia situation the bregman situation. I don't have a problem when it gets to grave and being here had to happen period. Yeah that's one now. I get john's point about his concerns. We've i i've thrown it out there. We have put our concerns out front. Steve sparks talked about it. Listen if you think that the soft tissue part of this is just going to be one hundred percent healed full go. Every time he pops out of the batter's box bregman. I mean you're going to french. A little nerve every time if he limps out of the bout or has to make a great play. Going into the whole it really. It's going to be concerned. We know he wants to play hell. He's a grinder and a competitor. So yes it has to be a concern. I get it. But when all is said and done and john makes a great point about the debt situation with the with the players and what happens if bregman continues or something else she goes down of course it. Who's gonna have the bigger impact on this just about to say that was my point when the season is over is good as taurel may end up being in seattle and he did some good things here and i hope he is lights phenomenal for them. When the season is over the grave. Men's impact we'll have far exceeded. Toro's yeah on this roster. I don't know about stats on this roster now. John's concern about depth and bregman. If you're concerned about bregman and twenty twenty one you ain't watching you should be concerned and you should. We gotta hope that nothing happens or some injury to one of the other cats like carlos or one of those god forbid and not getting any rest as you head down the stretch. Yeah there is a concern but my bigger concern eight say was bullpen. And now if this keeps up and you keep getting this. And i'm gonna tell you having a guy like graffman does it is. It's contagious to other guys in the bullpen. I'm just telling yet is standing because you come in behind him and he f- i like all the worries me about in matters. You don't wanna be the guy who let's team down now. You don't ever want to be that but when you sit and watch this cat you're like and it also has a major effect on the starting pitching staff. You heard mccullers talk about the guys this nasty. So there's no point time you're saying okay of grave up and i'm pitching i'm okay. We're gonna be just fine thank you. He'll get out of this jam. Get out of this thinning. He'll start fresh inning and bingo bango bongo. You'll be out of that inning for the most. He's been that good this year. He's been at times unhittable he just has and you're not scoring on the guy's phenomenal so as a guy who missed a great deal of it because of the covert situation so i get john's point because i'm with him on my concern about bregman and depth there but i got news for if the astros win the world series grave. Men will have had a much bigger impact in toro. We'll have had on this team. That's the way i feel. yeah graven. Is they needed him. More than anything. Like robo garcia star game last night. The astros win the game last night. They did three. Oh at the end of the day. They had to pay something to get rid of a player. James click talked by. They didn't wanna give abraham tour their prefer to keep him. But that was the cost of getting thing that was going to be more impact on your team and the biggest glaring need and you got to move past it. You can't sit there and worry about it because again. You've got the better player in the deal. Abraham toro is a good player. Kindergarten is a better player. More impactful player to this team and you saw it again last night. You've seen it twice. Since he's been here he's electric. He's everything they've been missing and in the postseason. You gotta have guys that you can count on to get out. And now they have maybe one of the best arms in baseball this season out of the bullpen. Go that they're gonna trust period of story. You got to move on from being worried. About abraham torah. Hopefully bregman comes back and rather than later. I would assume he's going to eat. Got back into his rehab last night. You're always going to be worse of it and you'll have to stop you. You'll be able to stop worrying about robo garcia and that's a mistake dash is gonna have to face in the off. Season is that they will have to remember that this the old years they could probably get by with this and go to the waiver market and pick up a player in this month of august. They can't do that now. They'll have to evaluate their death in terms of infield and outfield in the off season and address it properly because they've not done enough when they had to go from it. But you make the trade a million times and you do it again every single time and you know what i'm saying i'm with you and you know what i don't give a fuzzy rat's ass about right now twenty twenty two right now now. I could care less. I care about this great getting this done now. All address that. I'm not going chase a ghost borrow trouble. That troubles going to present. What i say trouble depth injuries contracts carreira. Getting more depth as you as you head around hit into the hot stove all right now. I got one concern. Well there's a couple of keeping people healthy but winning winning tonight and that's me and you talk about fans living in the moment we also as as i mean as a play. We meaning the players have to live in the moment to korea and this has been a big part of. It can't live into worrying about three hundred million dollars in february here january. He can't live in. And we fans this all. I care i don't give one. I could care less about free agency right. I honest i could care less. I know it lingers. What if we all start to linger on that we forget the job at hand and it's the double-whammy you lose lose a season. If i'm gonna lose somebody. Guess what i want to lose him to mc another ring on the finger right right sure you damn right to win ring again this year you had to. You just have to and then hey listen. There's little hope a little luck. A lot of skill that goes into this stuff and how to maneuver and manipulated. It's going to be tough. But i can tell you this. I think this was for for team. Needs now shares her to the dodgers better players. I'm sure but for team needs. And what the astros had to have grave was is important to the astros situation as measures to the dodgers correct. Sportstalk seven ninety. Come right.

"How do you judge that as a rental to you for a guy who can win your world series more important than my younger bodies that can be around longer than you may not get now. You may get one in three years. I tend to lean towards. Gimme that guy. now i i do. And we'll see if he's in play. There was eight teams listed. The boston's the you know. The dodgers the astros and In a host of other teams mentioned in baxter's which list was he has to approve. It really realistically probably cut down to seven. Because there was note in there that the yankees had checked in but he's basically told people that he's not going to accept a deal to new york. It's hard to imagine. You accept a deal to the mets as well. I i really think it's gonna the competition for him is going to strictly come down to the three teams in the west coast. Giants the dodgers the padres in the astros. It's to me. It's those four teams. That probably played him at the highest level. I theorized on one guy yesterday on our podcast in terms of starting pitching. I know that this is an you know we would all love the pie in the sky. The max scherzer deal to happen. It's going to be difficult to pull off. There's a tea or anybody. Yeah there's a there's a there's a team kind of hovering. I think they should sell off some stuff. I would be calling. I would be calling atlanta about. Charlie morton i would recall him atlanta left and right. They should look to move him. He's on a one year deal..

Also a your thoughts on her in you know. Mental health is a very a a big issue in our country that i think probably needs more addressing. And there's no. There's no reason to be ashamed when you face it because it can paralyze you it it it can and simone biles has been an incredible competitor for a long time. I had a bunch of my buddies question. I mean people we know and other guys say your people ridiculous questioning or and i think you okay. If you have an opinion i just don't get the cross over the line. Vitriol towards somebody. Who did it yet has been a tremendous representative of young women of gymnasts of athletes of people of african americans but not just african-americans. She'd been a representative all walks of life with way she performed. Unfortunately mental health got her in this olympics. And hopefully she'll she'll get healthy so i don't question people's mental health that that's number one. In our best is simone biles and to the rest of the olympians over there and the gymnastics team. Who and in the individual who have to compete without her into our team that got a silver medal without they're the best gymnasts in the world..

"Omega. Bill quarterback sean salisbury. This is the sean salisbury show. What one and that's drill dato. Lap kiss goodbye. Philip head grand slam and the mariners take the lead after being down seven. Nothing or i know at six o'clock in the morning. And this is the sean salisbury. Show by the way. Sean will be here just minutes. Pregnant misses first segment. So it's gonna be chance to do some real quick if you're not awake. I'm about to wake you up. Get red brock's ray. Cottingham tried him. Why why do you pay him. You are trying to win baseball games and when you pick him you don't win games. He is a just disaster on the mound. The bullpen is a disaster on the mound. What are we doing good morning morning to you too. Thanks for making my ears bleed. You're welcome i just through my voice out. I had my headphones on super loud. As i do every morning because i've producer show in now. My ears hurt so thanks. Well you know. And i saw him brooks rarely. I told you this morning. I had a pounding headache. Thanks for making it worse. You're welcome so if you went to bed last night. Like most people like i did when it was eight to three due to to go ahead and you know get some sleep because it's a west coast game and you know you go ahead and you you you expect when you wake up this morning. You're going to watch the rest of the highlights and everything that everything went well again. They were up eight to three when i went to bed. The astros lost eleven to eight last night. It's not on just brooks rarely the entire. Bullpen again luis. Garcia fell apart. Sometimes the starting pitcher. You're gonna have those nights where you go out there and you suck.

"He was out there in literal time for over five minutes before you went to the locker room see so if they see if it's so win win at what point time do you as a human being or in baseball or in life realize okay man. I thought this was. I thought this was true. And i wanted to hate the astros and i wanted it to be true because i want to validate the fact that they win cleanly we understand the trash can't think that's okay i just don't the buzzer thing and i when it came out. I'm like is this true. And so i'm looking. I think we all were right. I just it makes no sense and wendy. You get over it when when there's no there's nothing to back it up with wendy you get over. Stay on the trash cans for as long as you want. If that's what's gonna use is gonna is gonna make you happy. I could care less than apparently neither can the astros but you know when when broadcast teams are state and stuff. That's just snide and remarks..

"I agree because getting to that pinnacle of professional sports is so hard to do. And we've had our fair share of disappointment in the city for sure But for the rocket happy with just getting there one in any sport But i think because of all of the controversy surrounding how the astros won their championship and whether they cheated they didn't cheat whether they you know. used that system to gain a competitive advantage when they shouldn't have whatever i just think there's a cloud around the championship and it would sure be nice to get another one so that we could just hopefully put all that to rest and say you know what they didn't they didn't need to do it. I still don't know why they.

"The things aren't going. Well because people are more receptive does dusty handle that part of the emotional part right in your in your mind. Yeah i think he's you know people use the term q. Like emotional right. It's like you you know. His his is unbelievable And his ability to connect with people his ability to to understand. Like you're saying you know sometimes when you're winning that's the time to sit down and be like. Hey we gotta we gotta get better and sometimes when you lose them. It's time down be like. Hey it's okay you know we're we're gonna pull out of this too good to keep doing this But sometimes you know sometimes when you win and you should just celebrated And i think his his experience and his personality and not even just baseball experience life. Experience gives them the ability to You know connect with human beings and read them and understand them in a way that that he can handle that you know better than better than most i even. I didn't even talk about last night's loss you know why because today's a new day right. What are we going to irritated about everything when you lose thirteen to three anything that stuck out to you for we go that aside from a lot of things maybe one that you said. Gosh dang come on man thirteen to three gotta do better than runner's opportunities offensively. Is there one that maybe biggest irritant from last night. Now anytime you lose a game like that. It's going to have to be multiple things that are that are going to stick with you but You know on some level we you know you leave that many guys on base eventually. We're going cash. Those guys in this offense is too good For that and we just keep giving ourselves opportunity and eventually We'll turn things around again. I just. I don't want to harp on that. Twenty nineteen you know. They lost seven in a row. And and then you know they lost two in a row pretty badly the pirates and That seemed to that. Okay so again. We try not to get too caught up in in the highs and lows and there's an old axiom around baseball you know after winter loss. Whatever it is you know you get thirty minutes to celebrate or you get thirty minutes to be grumpy and after that you gotta flush it and And move onto the next day so we just try to keep that. There's absolutely no question about it when you're on bass is often as you guys are. Sometimes you're gonna leave on base and a lot of times they're gonna come across home plate pass go and collect more than two hundred dollars. Because baseball players get paid a lot more than two hundred dollars as you. Well know which means no contract talk. Today we'll catch up with that later. On james great stuff man i appreciate in. Let's go finish this one tonight. We'll talk to you next week. Back thank you. That's james click astros. Gm good stuff coming right back. Wrap up wednesday's today dude.
