Okay yeah because you had capacity of fun. I thought that it will saying it looked like he had been a time and he spotted him. He was the jogger was looked at him and look like he'd been talking to himself. Look like he was welcome to yourself. Yes no. I'm not i'm talking about the same thomas this. They're right but you said well. A young boy. In sister told police ace about a stocky man who had asked them to play asked your them to play basketball but they declined the offer. They said that the man was wearing a green sweatshirt and looked like a mexican witnesses who had seen the man were asked asked to draw sketches of him to compare to the police composite sketches and both of the drawings or very similar and then on on sunday. The police felt confident. They had their man twenty. Seven year. Yeah that's just lucky though while would you look insider ron looking everywhere. I guess bobby look inside of paper sack because they were gonna wash rush but i'm guessing maybe outside the trash game. Maybe or something you may have been thrown. We must have been around that area so they were just looking for anything yeah a had to be but <hes> tests showed that the blood on the quilt match that and it good a seat through the bag to if they pay paper bag or obey the paper sack yes only amount of seat the blood mata seep through probably dino's probably one of them. I'm i'm perf can't get it out. The police were certain that they had the right man for his confession. Do not conflict with the evidence in any way the tape would subsequently be used as evidence implied at his straw extradition procedures were instituted against cortez is immediately. California authorities agreed to support his extradition to oregon rather than retain him for trial on the california charges. And in Petersburg, the CVS pharmacy on crater road and the WalMart on crater road. So these are places that are available to you. If you wanna get rid of those old medications, I really strongly encourage you to do that. I like to tell the story and people say, oh, people don't really break in and take your meds. That's BS. I'll tell you this story, and it's true years ago. And I'm probably going back to before. I did this. This radio show. Not far. But before I did this. My father has had many many back surgeries one of the reasons when people say why don't you do the plumbing anymore? Richard is because I don't want to end up like that. I'm already heading that direction. Forty s we got a birthday coming up Jordan real soon. We sure do was three weeks away. I'm going with three. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to be forty seven. And you're going to be what thirteen fourteen years old twenty nine one teen. Oh, that's so cute. Yes. You're almost an adult the final the final year of my childhood. That's it by today's standards. You're not making a joke. Son. Fortunately, we'll have to we'll have to we'll have to have a joint birthday party. Oh, yeah. That sounds pretty good. We'll all be at the. So just a heads up that weekend. I'll be I'll be at Myrtle Beach. So by the end of it. Yeah. I'm not lending you a bike talking to happen. But I guess the the next weekend from Oriel day. We'll have to we'll have to bring the scale in and have a live way in before we have a Memorial Day barbecue. Yeah. There were two concert. So far, I'm failing miserably, but I started Zachariah Gainey this Tuesday. So maybe I can make up some space and see what happens. All right. But it back to what I'm saying is I'm about to turn forty seven. I hurt my back when I was seventeen. It's never been great since then. And so basically I did wanna end up like my dad, that's one of the reasons I got the went dad has a bad back, but he's a beast. Right. He's not gonna stop. He's not going to let anything swim down, and he was on medication for pain. It was prescribed doctors gave it to him. It was a patch. And he did everything right? He went to his doctor when he's supposed to get checked when he's supposed to he got these patches somebody broke into his house and stole them. Turns out on the street. These things worth one hundred fifty dollars a piece. But he was without his meds. He did the right thing. He called the police made a report. They took it. They walked away. Nothing. Anybody could do he is now without medication for a condition that he is in. He calls me three days later. So me, I need to come over. And checking because I was in EMT at the time. He says, I I'm short of breath. I'm sweating my heart is racing. I don't know what's going on. So he had called his doctors say, look, they someone stole my meds. And the doctor said this a what do you want us to do about it? Your medication doesn't get re upped for another week and a half. My dad actually went into withdrawal. From a medication that was prescribed to him. And somebody stole from him. So yes, today's the day you got those meds in their people want them. And you don't want them having them. Bill mechanicsville. Last week. I was listening to your program. You were talking about a washer dryer upstairs. And how you should move it. So unfortunately, we had to have one install stalled last weekend while you were talking. Now, the problem is the washer and dryer. Stick out a little too, far and all of the doors can't be put back on. I wonder if you had any great design ideas for. Be some drastic. Well, I I I think back into history specifically like ancient Persia. And they had these lovely things called curtains. Oh my gosh. What you won't be a dude. You can't bend spent time in space on this one. This. But see this is the thing. I mean, you bought something that you didn't did you did you measure the units that you had there before you bought the new ones. No comment. I did not personally to the property. Bride. Okay. Many many years. So I'm not gonna argue. I don't know what you can you actually can you take the doors and move the track because I'm imagining you have by full doors on it. Yeah. See if you can't move the track a couple of inches. See if that doesn't give you a little bit of room moving forward. I mean, they're still going to stick out a little bit. But other than that. I don't know what you'd be able to do because you have to have a certain amount of space for your connections in the back now. Oh now, you might be able to get. All right, Jordan, go along. You might wanna look into getting new hoses that have the ninety degree connection instead of the straight connection. Okay. That that'll give you maybe an inch. And the other thing is your dryer vent, you if you can't squeeze that any closer next time. You have your H fax service. See if they can't figure out a way to make a piece of flat duck to get your vent into the dryer vent that might give you an inter too. All right. I wasn't gonna be. All right. This is the home show contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical RV vapes. Every week they are getting in the newest and finest products for all of your vaping needs. I tried vaping years ago buying this little cheap piece of junk at a gas station. It did absolutely nothing for me than I tried something online. It was terrible. Then I went to RV vapes. They helped me find the device I like three of them. Now, getting ready to buy another one kind of addictive that way. But not the way you're thinking, then they helped me at the bar the juices. What flavor did I want? What level nicotine did I need? You know, if you're a pack a day two packs a day you need to be about a six. Yeah. You only smoke a couple of day a three maybe just like the idea vaping. You need something to do with your hands. They make vape without any nicotine in it whatsoever. My brother, he quit smoking hasn't smoked three weeks. He's been vaping. His goal is to take his. Nicotine level down to zero. And then give it up completely. But it's a lot.

"Jeff cads brought up today is they're doing a medication national prescription drug take back day today. What that means is all those meds that are left over in your in your medicine cabinet, those things need to go, and they need to go some place safe, flushing them is a bad idea. I mean, it's so many people flush medication that it's actually affecting the wildlife. Yeah. It's thing. So you also have to worry about people are now breaking into homes and they're going through your medicine cabinets. Or you know, I hate to say it kids kids will go digging through medicine cabinets looking for those prescriptions that you know, you had a toothache. They gave you something strong. It you only need it for a couple of days. I just put these up here. And they they stay. Up there. You have no idea how dangerous some of that stuff is. I personally I'm trying to convince my wife dump one of her medications. All right. She hasn't done it yet. She keeps it just in case. She now I've talked about this before she has a prescription for Ambien sleep aid doesn't sleep. Well, we all know that. And I took half a one one night and had the most vivid visceral. Ugly dreams I'd ever had. And I told her it's like, Honey, please stop taking the stuff take Tylenol PM or and that'll help and it does just fine and the other night, she just couldn't sleep couldn't get there. And so she she took half an Ambien. She woke up the next morning crying have had this dream, and it was so vivid. And so real she woke up upset so careful with those Mets. So anyway, they are doing the take back program to day from ten AM to two PM. And here's some of the places they're doing it in Richmond, Reverend Richmond sheriff's office McGuire Veterans Administration medical center in Henrico county. You got the WalMart on nine mile road of variety public library Henrico. Police department on Param road Virginia state police division on brook road in Hanover, mechanicsville van. Convenience center Ashland. Police department. Just field. They're doing the Enes Pittman public safety training center and Petersburg yet. The CVS on crater road and the WalMart on crater road. So go through your medicine cabinet. So you have some old meds in their lying around get rid of them. Get rid of safely. I heard stories who knows if it's true. Sometimes I just don't know if it's real or. Urban legend. But I mean, I've heard of pill parties where teenagers would just show up, and that whatever medication they had found they would just dump into a bowl, and you just walk passing grab whatever you don't even know what you're getting. People do stupid things. That's all I got to say about that. So I had an interesting week yesterday was a great day for those you've been with me for a while. And there's some of you have been here for a very very long time. I have had quite a few producers difference between me and a lot of other people as I stayed friends with my producers for for decades. I mean. Let's face it. Half of them were invited to my wedding. The ones all of them that were I could still reach. And if you go back a few years ago, I had a producer named Andrew. Andrew was also the producer up at sports radio. And he was known as the captain. That's right. The captain was also my producer. And so he left radio to pursue his dream of law enforcement, which who can blame him. If that's in your blood. It's in your blood. I never had any real desire for it. I just don't but he did. And he's much beloved radio. He moved on to become a police officer. But we stayed friends. Did we get together every once a week now? But every now, and then we just catch up see what's going on. And he decided he wanted he and his wife wanted to sell their house and get something a little bigger. A little bit more land. I can understand that growing families. Right. We all want, you know, that place somewhere. Everybody has their dream home. When I was a younger man, my dream was aloft in like an old warehouse. I know there's plenty of downtown, Richard. No, not like that. I mean like. Off away from everybody. It looks like it would be someplace like Batman would hang out. That's what I wanted that kind of loft. Highlander thank Highlander the first movie there can be only one. But they decided they wanted to sell their house and and find something else. Now, they're fortunate. A lot of us are one of the trickiest things in real estate that I have learned is trying to sell your house and buy another house at the same time. That's when realtors are just doing gymnastics, it's constantly on the phone constantly, shifting papers. Getting addendums numbers, blah, blah, blah, blah. They did something smart. They moved in with the parents for a while. Why not? Parents got plenty of room. Parents get along the little kids get to know. Grandma, and grandpa makes perfect sense. They come to me they said Richard Kenya's to help us sell our house. And my thought was yes, I can. And funny enough. This is the season..

"And on occasion, we've interceded in some of their problems. Sure. Sometimes they if they can't get their medication. If they have a plumbing problem when it snows we've we've gone over and got their watts. Snow shovel their snow you little things. Sometimes people may think are little things really big impacts. Two people who who may not have much otherwise. Well, I mean it is. It's the personification. You're the percentage of community police officer. Yes, yeah. Yeah. We begin bring ourselves into the community as much as possible we really in community policing and crime prevention. I think three things it's really collaboration information education. And that's what we try to do to to work with our community inform them and what we're doing in a educate. Our community is why we do certain things. Absolutely absolutely chip watts is joining us. He's with the Ashland police department. He is our blue Friday honoree this month. This chip we've talked about your activities as public information officer as the community service officer community relations, and all the rest, I want to know a little bit more about you. How long have you been on the job? And what prompted you to do this in the first place. I've been with the Asham police department for eight years. Twenty one years total in law enforcement. When I was undergrad law school. Okay. Maybe a lawyer. And then I think a summer job that convinced me otherwise and got into law enforcement because I enjoyed working with people helping them in their situations. And I enjoy the camaraderie within the profession, and I've made lifelong friends that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Yeah. Absolutely. I for folks who are listening to this younger people, especially still a great career avenue. Yes. Yeah. If you if you want to be in a position in a profession where you can feel fulfilled and help people. Every day is not a great day. It's not that's probably with any job. Nevertheless, if your service minded, and you want to contribute, and you feel like you've made a difference. Even though as I said, even sometimes the small differences a lot of people wouldn't consider to be a big deal. But really touch people in a way that they understand that, you know, there's even if they have nobody else they might have somebody there to help them. Well, chip when you look at policing in our community, we've got some large areas. Henrico the city of Richmond, Hanover county, huge ashlin, compact, right, seven and a half miles as you point out seventy five hundred I would have to think you get to know people up close and personal literally see them everyday everyday. I live in Ashland lived there for eight years. Children go to school national. And I really I enjoy living there. And I recommend to other people. You know when they asked about Ashland live there. Yeah. And my kids go, you know, my kids are there. And I think it's a great place to raise a family. Yeah. Yeah. Well, if Ashland is the center of the universe than it sounds like you're sort of the center of the Ashland police department. Well, I think. I think everybody contributes everybody everybody, you can't do you can't be as effective or effective in any way. Think right everybody everybody works together. And being a smaller department. I think you know, there are times where our officers and our personnel have to work that much more as I said, we're many hats T up to do the things that that residents and people expect of twenty-first-century law enforcement. Absolutely. Well, I will tell you chief Goodman is the one who nominated you for our blue Friday honor. And so my hat is off to you. I think getting to know you a little bit. It's it's very clear why he thought you were the the best representation for the Ashland. Police department for this. Thank you. So congratulations to you. We love telling your story, you'll leave here with a couple of gifts as well. Nothing to retire on. I'm sorry about that. But some very lovely gifts includes one hundred dollar gift card. Thanks to our friends at heritage. Ever laid down in Chester that is chip watts from the Ashland police department. He is our honoree this month for blue Friday. Jeff katz. "Katz. Newsradio W R V A, as you know, the final Friday of every month is blue Friday on this show, where we take the opportunity to talk with honor investigate some of the activities of some of our local law enforcement officers folks who have gone above and beyond and we are always able to get a collection of people men and women who in my opinion represent the best of the badge. Well, I'm thrilled to tell you the chip wants his joining us chip is the public information and crime prevention officer for the town of Ashland's police department and thank you for being here. Thank you very much. Let's talk a little bit about your role. But I guess before we get to that. Tell us a little bit about the police department in the town of Ashland. Well, we are a twenty six officer department we serve the town of Ashland affectionately known as the center of the universe. Yup. We worked very hard to. Two. All town provide the biggest footprint possible. The police department can have okay now, tell me a little bit about because I think sometimes it's not that people forget, but everybody loves ashlin goes there for any number of sort of cool purposes, which might lead to any number of criminal activities. I would imagine right. Yeah. We even though we are small town. We we have challenges we are in a large metro area interstate ninety five and route one bisect town. So we have a lot of traffic, and we have a lot of things going on. Yeah. Well, tell us about the the attitude because I love and a half love for years the center of the universe moniker. I mean, you're you're part of that. Oh, yes. I believe the resume generally believed that our small town is the centre people come here for the trains town environment. And it's great because we tap water that small town environment. Yeah. But very close to to an urban metro area that people can leave and come up and experience that well, I think some folks when they think of actually go. Okay. Well, we got Randolph Macon you've got college kids. They're college kids and any number of refreshments activities lend themselves to troublesome events. But there are a lot of people. I think who visit Ashland particularly Christmas time. Right. Enjoy what's there? And then leave would you've got you've got a great population. How many people in the town and self about seven thousand five hundred okay? So in the seven thousand five hundred you've got to interact, obviously, tell me about some of the promise shop shop with a cop. Right. Is that right? Right. Okay. Working with our our residents and business community. We put together a program on the holiday season at Christmas to provide. Christmas and holiday funds here toys food right for children, and their families who are very deserving and may not have the opportunity at that for Christmas. Okay. And so that's something that members of the Ashland police department, go out and take care of we knew we we solicit donations are businesses are very supportive. Our residents are very supportive. They not only give their time and their money, and and support us through food and all sorts of things that we put together, and then we can provide for for some of these families that like I said otherwise wouldn't experience the cheer the holiday season. Absolutely chip wants is joining us chip is the public information and crime prevention officer for the Ashland's police department. He is our blue Friday honoree this month chief Goodman nominated you. But I I get the sense chief Goodman, also nominates you for a bunch of extra duty, right? We were joking about this. You're the public information officer, you're the crime prevention officer, but you're also out there on the street is well, yes, you wear a lot of hats some small department. Yeah. You know, there are times where. Desist patrol and just taking calls, but that's good. Because it allows you to remain connected to the residents and continue to do assets are facets of police work that you may not otherwise get to do. That's a great point. Now, you you mentioned shop with a cop that happens when we've got we've got plenty of snow on the ground. But you've got Kona with a cop where you're actually sort of bringing in ice in snowy stuff. Explain this to me. So about three times each summer we work with Kona ice of Richmond. And we bring Kona with a cop and we rent the Kona ice truck. And our officers are police cars, we escort them around the town of Ashwin and we get out free cone ice to kids in the neighborhood. We try to kick it off at the beginning of summer. We do it and nationalized out and very soon. We'll have a unfortunately for the kids. With a cop at the end of August. Wow. Now, I think it's hysterical to to think about all of this. And I think it's wonderful that you're that you're involved in all of this that you mentioned national night out in the corner with a cop and national night out. Tell me about how national night out happens in Ashland, many of our communities neighborhoods apartment complexes, they will create their own events. Invite their invite the residents and their neighbors, Oliver officers, not only our officers are elected town council. Members are mayor town officials. We will all participate. We'll go out in the neighborhoods. Give out again, the cone is. Wow. All right. So the support you get from the community pretty solid. Absolutely. The great thing about a small town. Is you see so many of the same people every day? Yeah. You get to collaborate and work with them residents businesses. Our business community is so supportive of our efforts. It's not even also within law enforcement, and what we do as a police department, but also or other efforts and just helping the community as I said, we want to have an impact and have the biggest footprint we can have in our seven and a half miles national. Yeah. Yeah. Now, you talked a lot about kids and back to school and the rest of it on the other age spell on the other end of the age spectrum helping out seniors in your community as well. Yes, we work with the Hanover county sheriff's office in our local triad, which is a senior citizens..
