"Right now go to peacock TV dot com to sign up. Okay, so what was the big story of opening week in Major League Baseball? I'll answer it. We know what it was. Clinton Kershaw, right? Being removed from a perfect game because he had thrown 80 pitches and it was cold and on the road and he had done anything yet in terms of his preparation for the season, really hadn't thrown very much. There was no spring training, thanks to the lockout, didn't pick up a ball and all that stuff, and we're like, come on man, just give it a try. And the answer is like, yeah, you know what? You could ruin his career, like somebody called and said, Johan Santana went for it, right? But he had a 130 million pitches, not 80. So last night, the braves were in town, just in the Freddie Freeman in his first at bat against his former team, and now for his hometown team went yard. It was quite interesting. It took a big lead and who was on the mound. With that big lead, Clayton Kershaw took a lead into the 6th inning. 6 one. They let him pitch the 6th. Interesting enough, even though he had guess how many pitches, 80. Yes. Hey. After his 80th pitch, home run double single out of the game. And all I'm saying is this. Don't use this to justify taking him out. I'm saying is this. I want a monitor on him. Is his career over? Because he went and he gave up a Homer single and double. No, he still got the win. Is he going to make his next start? That he pitched 7 more pitches. Is he going to make his next start? Hold on, let me see if we went down. I want to see. Because they left him in the game, and all I'm saying is, let him give up the Homer single and double in Minnesota. Let him give up the Homer and take him out. Let him give up the single take him out. Let's see what happens. And I already heard from my Dodger friend. I heard from you, rob. Last night, texted me. He's just like, oh, you folks out there saying he shouldn't have pitched. He should have kept pitching. What do you do after 80 pitches? Single Homer double. And I'm like a perfect game going tonight. Good enough. Good enough. But let's just see, monitor his arm, see if it's any trouble. Now then this could be perfect fodder for a new baseball podcast out there. That was announced yesterday. I saw it. Couldn't believe it. This guy's got a podcast too. But I mean, who knows? Because he saw a lot and saw a lot of baseball. So a lot of baseball, behind home plate, and behind first, second and third, I'm not talking about a catch you who played all over the place. Talking about the famed umpire Joe west. He's got a new podcast called 54 60. Now, what is that? Those are the number of games the record number of games that he umpired or the number of times he showed you by not making a proper call or waiting forever to raise half of his arm for strike, number of times that he showed you with his performance, didn't care what you thought. And it's kind of interesting that somebody whose entire career it seemed like. His entire career, it seemed like, was showing you, didn't care what you thought about him. Didn't care what you thought about his style of umpiring or thought you actually paid your money to watch him umpire. Now, wants you to download his thoughts. Wants to communicate with you. After all this time. I'm gobsmacked. So here's what's his first podcast going to be called, I don't care what you think. Or it was a strike, but you had to wait 8 seconds for me to lift my arm and say it was a strike for all of you folks to have to see it. All the times I was right. All the times I was right. You were right. Although the one podcast I would definitely download is if he tells the story about shooting that famous scene in airplane having crestone in a rundown with the rest of the umpires within RICO Palazzo because he was one of the umpires in airplane. I would actually make a gun. I would actually, I would actually download that pot. There it is right there. The area is country Joe west arguing within RICO Palazzo. Look at that hat. There we go. 30, 40 years ago. Oh yeah. I would download that part, but for the rest of them. Hard pass. Hard pass. After further review, which now they're forced to actually say. Yeah, which is great. There you go. Only because he retired. Thank you to Bobby Wagner for coming in in person that was dynamite. If you must go to our YouTube page, same with the conversation with Kevin O'Connell and the head coach of Arthur Smith, who hung up the phone and went to rich McKay and said rich once in on the competition committee. To hear how he laughed when I said, you know, what he'll say is that I'll take it under advisement because that's what he says about everything. He even he left. I got him to crack up at that..

"News update from Chris brockman in a second. Let's take some phone calls, our front Jeff in Detroit has chimed in what's up Jeffrey how you been. What's going on? What's happening with my cousins? John Poole, first of all, presidents is like, I'm going to tell you it's just like the auto chip shorts. Everything is that because you can't find what you want, brand new. That's not just like buying a camera, 2018, the $67,000, man. I can't do that. And I'm trying to figure out this guy just keeps hitting payday after payday. Now, with Jordan Poole yes, doing what he does. Yes. And being the man that he is. Yes. My question to you is if you're Steve Kerr, would you keep bringing him and putting him in the side line up and keep stuff coming off the bench? Because having that three guard rotation, man, that's a killing. I mean, I really don't see when those guys get hot. Other than size, see nothing else stopping them. I really don't. Well, I mean, let me ask you this question, guys. If there's any superstar all time great, first ballot Hall of Famer potential Mount Rushmore guy who would say it's all working for me coming off the bench keep me there. Who would that one guy potentially be? Steph wardell? Okay. So I don't know. I mean, it's working. I don't think when it all comes down to it, then you're taking on the suns, like you're going to say, curry, you come off the bench. I think eventually Jordan Poole will be the one to come off the bench and then they'll all play all 5 of them will play when it's crunch time. And we'll see how that happens. We'll see how that works. But this is as draymond green said last night. Thanks for the call, Jeffrey. Draymond green said is an excellent problem to have. Great problem that. Now who starts to finish the game really, right? Well, I mean, yes, technically, but guys want to start. They don't want to call them the bench. It might Malone call Steph Curry the greatest 6 man ever. I think that's what he said last. Multiple times. He had some great quotes last night. I had him open before. Let me see if I can call him up again. Also, the problem too is you can't keep getting digging or coming out of ten point holes, you know, last night that was they did. I know, you know, they went from what, 14 down to like 20 something up and but Chris, like you and I discussed before the show, like the Golden State Warriors and you're down 15, you're not really sweating too much because that's 5 shots. You know? Yeah, yeah, and that's the thing too last night. It was a 12 point deficit than all of a sudden you blinked and they were up 8 and it happens so fast in the second quarter. They go on runs. And you're sitting there scratching your head. Malone Malone said curry is the greatest 6th man ever in the playoffs. He went on and said the most dangerous guy on the floor is the guy who just passed the ball and Steph Curry is the embodiment of that. He's been doing it for years. He gives the ball up, you relax. He's flying off on other screen and then he makes you pay. The problem is you have three players that are capable of putting up 30, 40 points. Again, Malone is kind of the first coach to have to deal with this in these playoffs. You have three players who can get it on their own and they do such a great job of passing moving and making plays for each other. Yeah. And then as he said, that's two games in a row when you're in a game, then snap of a finger, you're out of the game. It says Michael Malone, head coach, the nuggets. And the warriors had a really rough last month, 6 weeks of the season. They did not look right. They did not look how they looked at the beginning of the year. All right. Steph was injured and then all of a sudden the last two games, wow. I know. This team can win the title. Surprising to everybody except those who predicted they would win it. How about that passion? Never gave up on him. How about that pass pool head to, I think, Belle. On the back where he was like, under there was one where he was under the basket, he got cut off and stopped, and then all of a sudden he just like, whoop around the back for a layup. That one, but then he did one where he threw it in front of him, and it was this kid was in his back glass. I really put him on greens that ultimately they need curry back out there, but quote Jordan's probably going to have to start to great problem to have, quote, right? Jimmy and San Antonio, let's take your call. What's up, Jimmy? Jimmy. Jimmy. What's up, Jimmy? What's going on? Well, I can't lie, I told Adam, I was going to talk about bedroom to bathroom ratio, but then after that, I have to stick up for TJ. So first thanks, bro. Bedroom to bathroom ratio. Depends on what the purpose of the house is. Okay? It's over 3000 ft², three and a half bath. Okay. So if you do the hatch after the guest, if you've got 12 bathrooms, then you're entertaining. Sure. Yeah, but then there's four bedrooms, though. That was our entertainment. You want to have people picky and then stay. Not just them. That's why you have 12 baths. We kick everyone else out. Yeah, but you've got kids. He and Sierra have kids, right? And so they're going to have the bedrooms. That's what I'm saying. I guess is there a guesthouse? I guess department. It's the purpose of the house. Now I have to stick up for TJ. This is going to be on you. Okay. Earlier, TJ was told you're better than that when asking about Jordans and cowboys hookup. Correct? Well, I didn't say he was better than that when asking for Jordans. He wants he wants a follow from the Dallas Cowboys Twitter account, which is like, come on, man. Come on. And you want the competition committee, sir. Yes, I do. Elevator door instead of hold my beer. No, no. Thank you, sir. No, no, no, no, no, no. I need to push back here, Jimmy. Don't push. I know I'm going to push back here. These are two totally different things. One, the Dallas Cowboys account. We have no idea who's actually in charge of it. It's probably somebody. He's in charge of anything. Jerry Jones is not deciding who the Dallas Cowboys follow or not. I don't know. The competition committee are people who are leaders in that the forefront of the NFL community, they are the ones who are. Charged with making sure the game is as competitive as possible. I know I already have their respect. I just need their companionship. That's what I'm looking for. I'm going to get it. I think you're going to get it. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you, Jimmy. Thank you. Thank you, Jimmy. I appreciate you sticking up. TJ, if you know anybody who could sell us tickets for the cowboys rams, I'll buy them and you and me, homie. We'll go to the.

"Yes. I mean, that one's I know people have brought it up in the past. I could definitely see the argument for that. I think I'd probably be in favor for it. I'll answer that one. Yes. Correct. Hold on. Yes, of course. Yes, of course, because if you're Arthur Smith, if you're offense, is on a roll, right? And somebody just like reaches for the pylon and it gets knocked out. And because it goes out at the one inch line, you get the ball back if it goes three more inches north. You lose the ball. I think that's totally arbitrary capricious and should you get rid of it? That's what I think. Yeah, I'm a back doing that one. Excellent. Thank you. Let me just devil's advocate, Arthur. What about don't fumble? Terrible. Well, I mean, you certainly something in all seriousness is you coach and understand that you don't reach out across with one hand and sort down and go winning because that's happened. And you certainly coach to put two hands on it. It's easier said than done, you know, trying to get these guys to not reach out to school or something we work on a lot, but there's a lot of subjectivity rewarding somebody like the richest point. You know, you talk about three inches and they're rewarding them right away the defensive as a turnover. And it rolls out right there. So I'm gonna say with Rachel, and this one. There you go. Maybe it's my bias and being an offensive coach, but that's kind of where I'm leaning towards. Got it rich as part of the competition committee. My bonafides are solid, sir. It's my resume is solid. Thanks for the time, coach, greatly appreciate it. We're lockstep on that. And I look forward to our next chat, have a great draft. We'll chat soon. Thanks for having me. Right back at you. That's Arthur Smith head coach of the Atlanta falcon, smart enough to agree with the host. And see a great idea when he knows it. Hey man, you could tell these guys don't reach for the pylon, all you want, but this rule, fumbling into the end zone, and the defense gets awarded the football. What it does, you know what it does? Oh jeez. Reward you for it. Penalizes. Effort? Effort. I agree with you. It's subtracts from your desire to be aggressive. Well, if all effort is not smart effort, which is dumb effort. You can't tell someone to go a 110% the whole game and then bring it back in the two lines right there. You can't do it. You can't do it because you know what? It could roll an extra two inches the other way and count against you or it could roll two inches sideways and you're still fine. Yeah. Then why does it never happen to the Patriots? Oh right, 'cause they coach them not to do it. That whole don't fumble the ball thing that you say. That's ridiculous. What do you mean? Well, in our case, we're professionals here. That would be like me saying you, well, hey, Chris, don't mispronounce a word or don't stammer when you speak. It's happened. But there's no part of this when we do that. Well, there is there is. There is what I do. Because they'll twofold will make a drop out of it. And you got to hear about it forever. I'm just saying. It's easy to say, don't fumble the ball. Every single rule in the NFL and all new rule changes and all that stuff, it all favors the offense. What is for the defense? That's not true. I would like you to name something that has benefited the default running back lowering the helmet. When was the last time that got called? That's been called. When? When was the last time? It was a flag. It was a flag they created it. But it doesn't get caught. Taunting. Taunting. By that, that went out the door in the playoffs. Definitely did and was very inconsistent, but there's a handful of penalties that have been created. The whole game now in the last decade, it's all been geared toward the offense. Let the defense just have this one. The Heinz ward, you can't crack back to block somebody. Yeah. Man, I disagree with that too. Sir, you can not argue with somebody who is competition committee worthy, like me. These are facts. You know what? I need rich McKay on the phone now. We FaceTime rich McKay. I feel network guys being funny. He's being funny, the same guy you had the campaign to run for commissioner back in 2006 when Paul taglia was retiring, and I had my buttons. There's a rich item for commissioner button right over there. On our wall, yeah. Right on the bobblehead doll. I never saw it. Go on. Go.

"We have a very collaborative group. So that's any transaction we have that's how we that's how we collaborate. Well, in a few minutes, I have left with you here, coach. I want to talk to you about the new overtime rule. And your thoughts on it. Do you like it? Do you like the new rule that both teams definitely have to touch it? You do? Yeah. I was in favor of them. Okay. What about the strategy now? Because to me, it looks like, just from my perspective, I would prefer, it seems like the issue is when you get it first, you know that if you score a touchdown, you will get the first possession of a sudden death overtime, like old school. But you also, if you take it second, would have the benefit of knowing what you have to match and thus the freedom to go for it on all four downs you're like you're playing your kid playing a video game. It doesn't matter down distance where you are. You're going for it. What's your philosophy on that subject matter? Yeah, we'll keep looking at it. I think you'll probably see it first again on how many of these opportunities happen in the next couple of years and it's just the postseason overtime. So I think you'll see a lot of people defer. They want to know what they're up against and I think that'll be the conventional wisdom. That's what the numbers will tell everybody, hey, if you won the coin toss, or so you know exactly what you're playing against to your point. We've got all four downs, you know exactly matching it if you got a match cut down, you get in there, do you want to go for two and end it? I think the one thing that you count if you're in a really bad weather game, I mean, there's a lot of different variables and how both teams are playing, how tired is the defense going into it, you take the ball and you feel you got the advantage to go right down, you got them on the ropes. I certainly could be a factor into it. So it would be fun as you think it'll take a couple of years before you get enough of a sample size that really really see what happens. Well, I guess it would be a good thing to be a coach who has to deal with that for the first time because that means you're in the playoffs and that's something that's a good thing. First off, what do you think about the idea of maybe getting the ball first and going for an onside kick? Because if you recover it, that based on my understanding of the rule means that all you need to do is just score a field goal and that's the end of that. And that if you do lose possession, you don't gain it on an onside kick, at least you know you're getting your possession next and you'll know what to match. What do you think of that idea, Arthur Smith? Is that your original idea of somebody on your staff come up with that? Well, I mean, here's the deal. It doesn't matter in my business. My name's on the my name's on the door. Give you some souped up title here. Hey, let me tell you something. You sir and the rest of the National Football League would do a hell of a lot worse than having me on the competition committee. I should have a spot there, fact. I've been around. Exactly. You run that straight into the man's office. And you tell him. And you know what he'll say to you? He'll say to you, he'll take it under advisement. Because that's what he says about everything. But other than that, he knows. I'm telling you, these are all good ideas. To me, I'd like to see if an NFL head coach would do something like that. Because the odds would be, if you recover it, all you need is a field goal, right? And that would be the end of it. So do you think that that sounds like a good idea to you? Yeah, I wouldn't count it out. Is that a good enough answer for you? I like the unconventional wisdom. No, I just, I like gaming this stuff out with an actual NFL head coach and certainly one with an offensive mindset because I think this is fascinating. And my phone lines lighting up about the conversation. Everybody had an idea to try and fix it. I'm just wondering if this is really fixed it. But you like the idea is what you're saying. You like the new over time. Yeah, I'm not dismissing your idea. Figure out your other angle. I have no angle. If your age is going to call me and ask, you know, if you've got a spot on the staff here. Nope. I think you're fine. I think you're fine with your staff. I'm sure you're fine with your staff. I am angling for a spot in the competition committee though. So you can tell that to rich McKay for sure. And also, would you be in favor? I'm going to while I'm on a roll here. Would you be in favor of getting rid of the rule where if you fumble through the end zone, the ball goes to the defense automatically? Would you be in favor of getting rid of that? "We just hung up with Kevin O'Connell, the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings they choose 12th overall. The man who chooses 8 overall in the draft along with the rest of his franchise when they chose 5th overall lash, or fourth overall last year, pardon me. That was the linchpin of the first round with three consecutive quarterbacks. Everyone was wondering if the falcons are going to take a fourth or what were they going to do? They took Kyle Pitts, who is now going to be there for the immediate future. Marcus Mariota. At that position, lots is going on with the Atlanta Falcons. We are thrilled to have back here on the rich eisen show and by the way, we'll take your phone calls over the next hour as well. 8 four four two O four rich number to dial. Please to have back here on the program. One of our favorites, head coach of the Atlanta Falcons on their Mercedes Benz vans phone line. Arthur Smith, how are you doing, coach? Rich, how you doing? I'm doing better for talking to you. What is your world like on a day like this? So you have guys back in the building, you're draft meetings, walk me through what this day looks like for you. Yeah, it's exciting times. So today was our first day of the off season program. So the majority of our guys were in here today, so it was good to have players back in the building and then we're kind of finalizing the draft board now. Anticipation for next week. And so Marcus Mariota now back in an offense that you are honcho ing. What does that mean, do you think? How do you think he is going to fare in a spot that he is I'm sure been eager to get into starting quarterback in the NFL coach? Yeah, it's exciting to work with Marcus again. He and I are both in different spots and from where we were in 2019. He decided to have the opportunity to compete and that's all he wanted. And that's what we were able to provide. And so obviously looked at every position of this roster, but Marcus has the right mindset, he's a high end talent and he wanted to and it just worked out perfectly. The timing of it for him to come in here and compete. And so the competition would be what? What's the competition that you're looking at? Well, it depends what happens next week and certainly there's all kind of avenues we have to acquire talent. And that's what certainly my familiar markets and the opportunity. It's wide open and he knows that. So regardless of what happens next week or really in the next couple of months, he'll come in here and compete and give us a chance to win football. So I know you have always focused on revealing your draft strategy on the rich eisen show live, so this is your moment. This is it. Yeah, this is your moment. This is, I'm essentially giving you your moment that you've been eager to see. So there is a situation in which a quarterbacks available 8th overall and you guys go and snag him because you like him that much. Is that a possibility is what you're saying right now? There's a lot of possibilities. I mean, depending on how the first 7 picks goes, go and make a trade and there's all kind of possible is I think this is probably the one or more I know because we're living in it right now right now, but it's probably the most one or more uncertain drafts within ten days that have been around a lot. And so are you gaming it out like you're is it really like a mock draft you have one of those? Coach Smith? Well, I mean, everybody has different philosophies. I mean, you know, there's a lot of different ways it can go. So essentially, you've got to be okay with it. 8 guys, you know, if you're sitting there. So how will we stack them? That's what we're doing. We continue to do leading up to next week and obviously someone will be a good player there. So we'll take the best player available and see how the board falls to us. Arthur Smith, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons here on the rich eisen show. Walk me through the Matt Ryan trade with the colts. And when did that first kind of hit your radar screen? Arthur Smith. It happened pretty quick. There was mutual interest. Obviously, we weren't just going to we're going to do what's best for the team and also best for Matt and so it really was a win win for both teams where Matt sat in his career. The conversations picked up pretty pretty quickly that probably that Thursday before it went down and I love what Matt Ryan did for us last year and he's obviously had a heck of a career in Atlanta and I wouldn't bet against him for the rest of his career, but what we're at and the salary cap situation. It was the best move for this team moving forward. So I'm happy that I got to work with him for the year I did. Yeah, I mean, obviously he means so much to so many of the fans that are rooting for your success coach. I mean, so would you say this was a cap? Move more than anything else for your team? Would you name it? I mean, I would just categorize it just to cap, but that was part of the strategy where we're at a lot of things have changed in the last calendar year. Since I've been here and going forward, you can keep playing the restructure game. And he would be willing to do and it just what did we do a lot of different accounting tricks or we can open up some cap space for 23, but we're excited about it and we're excited about the team that we'll put out there this fall. 'cause you gotta, our objective is the one football games and I know that a lot of different narratives out there, but the single looks so different comes September. Arthur Smith Atlanta Falcons head coach here on the rich eisen show. And so what would you categorize the holes that you'd like to hit and fix and days and a week and a half from now over the three days of the draft? What would you identify that you're free to identify? I mean, there's really at every spot, rich. You know, where we're at, we had a pretty young team with a few that's surrounding it, but that's the thing. You don't want to be desperate and reach and come out and come back to hurt you in future years and as we continue to team build. So like I said, we'll stick to it. We'll take the best player available. We'll be smart about it. But we'll take help everywhere. Is that a base of an upgrade? You know, no, actually, I prefer more evasive. Keep working on it. It is part of the tightrope. I have to walk and obviously you to have a conversation and live television and radio 9 days before an NFL Draft. So I totally understand that. When Deshawn Watson was available, how integral were you in the conversations for all of that? Arthur Smith. You know, the position there's a lot of trades that we explore. And it just happened to be one of them. And we have great communication. And all of our leadership positions. But that's for any player we consider bringing in here, whether it's agency or trade or drafting. So we have a lot of conversations..

"Taylor just call them. Excuse me if. I can actually now take this to such as subversive level that the head coach is now involved and throwing it in there. What if his teammates kind like it. What if his teammates start calling him that because they loved that the coach did this and they know it upsets him. I would even take that. It's what happens. You know what happens with friends. Yes the head on the say something bothers you because if you do then it's now going to be stuck like glue. The quarterback of the team is the most important person in that organization aside from that ribbing not above being rich busted what this puts him in a bad place. In the falcons go three and fourteen. Then then they're in such a problem that this could actually sink their season because matt has said repeatedly for the last decade that he doesn't like it and you just keep going and going and going and what if it just sense in such a spiral. The rest of his career proceed to this. Perhaps more than anybody not named mariuchi warner or urban and my stance is very well. And i and i understand. That is not a single time. He said i don't like it. He's never said that because he's light gentleman for boston. College doesn't offer it. he's not into it. move on. i love you gotta move on. Even though that drop has been has been memorialized here on the richeisenshow with all due respect. Thank you haven. If the coach now does it. You know. We're going to talk to matt ryan. Were in the next several weeks. Know it and and if arthur smith brings it up come on that's next level that you gotta let me. You will not admit it because matt coach incorporating the coach and the whole thing. I'm not i. I'm not as people who i would have done so mad. I i don't know. I just get so mad about it. He doesn't like the nickname you knows the letterman school of of of comedy. Which is to take something joke about it. Joke about a ten more times and then beat it to death. And now i've taken it something and beaten to death for like seven straight eight straight years when the person himself has that makes it better. No it does because initially sign off on your own. Nickname is the head coach. Says he's going to go. Actually used it in the form of a sentence like it was like a spelling bee. Like you know what i mean instead of spelling it out like. Can you say the former sentence he used it in. He used it like casually he got it and he understands how you use it in a sentence and how you can just drop a casually if he does that for even a split second to matt ryan and in a team meeting in coach tulsa all what he also looked at the branding opportunities of where his mind with it. You don't make those beers anymore. Yeah i think. I think natty ice is actually getting so the rebranding can bring it back name. He doesn't need a nickname he's a grown man. We all need nitny a fighter pilot couple of brody we need a as something in atlanta last night that i need to bring up because you wanna talk about bringing it up and beaten something to death. "We're excited so we got a lot of guys if detail can can contribute to help move football ryan so you don't give away any State secrets here. Yes we'll be pretty excited going into week one and you're not gonna see us again. We we we got evaluating ravensbruck. This preseason we're trying to all guys and we're trying to give him the same comparison same type of place is we're going into their So we can guy doing the first half of during the second half so we can make the best decisions by tuesday on the rosser. So that's kind of been our approach the preseason and then we'll see where it goes want. Arthur smith atlanta falcons head coach first year as that. At and the l. prior to his final preseason game and first regular season game right here on the rich eisen show. Look i i know. Talking about accomplishments in preseason is Usually nothing because you haven't done anything you haven't accomplished anything. But this does deserve a kudo. And congratulations certainly from me. I got code. Despite being fully vaccinated over the summer and i know what it means to be vaccinated. How important it is to be vaccinated. Your team reportedly one of the first one hundred percent vaccinated teams in the nfl. What did you tell your players. How did you approach the situation. That led to such a remarkable number. That i congratulate you on coach their kids. You know it's a. I don't think it's a complicated issue but the best way to put it. I didn't didn't pander. Well we ever tried to do was inform. Our guys tell them to educate themselves go talk to the medical and to make the best citizen for you so we didn't try to sit there and push anybody who didn't try to guilt trip. Anybody and you know a lot of these things. Combination of certain guys got earlier than others. It's probably helps Nobody's gotta make their own choices. And that's pushing their and make your own choice. Think for yourself and and you know those guys all made decision get it but i didn't think there was anything that we did special better than the other team. Did you bring anybody. In specifically to address this issue to the team as a team meeting have doctor and epidemiologist and he didn't do that but we told them all those resources available through our our medical professionals and the ones outside go. Educate yourself You know it's. We're fortunate that you know look around the country. We're fortunate that there is a vaccine available. So i again. I don't get into political and religious discussions but The numbers are what they are. And i think we're pretty. We're in pretty good shape in this country the fact that it is available and you know the monarch technology came through so Like did you see right now as ripping through the country. And you're you're obviously one of them that had the breakthrough but you know hopefully saved you from anything more dyers horse and look. I don't mean to turn you as a head coach into an epidemiologist. Nor do i want to be one as a as a as a host of a show like this one right and and you know and i know you just mentioned the word politics but when i got it Last i at no point did the virus. Check my voter registration card before during my body. You know that that never happened so again i. I'm just as a coach did you. Did you find out who had actually reached out to your medical staff i. I'm just fascinated by this subject to make dealing with going. And you know the point where you just encouraged guys to educate themselves here. Here's what the facts are facts. Here's what they're what the expectations are. You know the protocols are going to be and you got need to educate yourself. And i'm not gonna sit here and pander politically religiously because you gotta make a personal choice. And because i made mine doesn't make me any better or i'm smarter. I did it. Because what i believe in you. Know so Where common sense you know loss in this country there's multiple rating. Why is it. if it's some people think that you and i are idiots for going to get it but we are choices you and i made so and the last one for you on the subject as a head coach are are. You relieved that you don't even have to think about the subject of vaccination that you know your team's got it and that you now could just focus on another task at hand. Arthur smith released but know it's you get those and the protocols when you travel you know you hope to. That was one thing that we they not good job. And the teams and we've got every game played But those a lot of stress every day when you woke up and you had to be prepared like on the game day players and coaches where you know you may test positive and you try to do and there's a lot of extra dressing up on the game. Nobody's a victim here. You know we know sign up for but it is nice. That especially not have to deal with i on sunday morning. And there's a cases exceptions right if somebody were to get sick or you don't wanna typically waking up sunday morning. I'm gonna or some saturday tests and and warned about a guy being up or down a couple hours before kick-off few more minutes left with arthur. Smith atlanta falcons head coach. You're on the rich eisen. Show what is it going to i. I know you've got x. Owes to deal with. And you've got rosters and you've got you know A lot going on your plate but you know what's it going to go through your your head when you're getting ready to be the of the. At l. against the philadelphia eagles week. One you're gonna maybe take a moment split-second that this is something you've been working so hard towards for your entire career coach. Probably hit me. Different points Obviously it's a it's a hell of an opportunity so fortunate to get this opportunity so we've been make sure i do take advantage of it and it is cool. I mean you take a step back but know your mind so busy. There's so much going on Leading up to that game in the l. Hopefully atmosphere in atlanta that day and and the eagles are gonna be like heck of a challenge and they arguably best experience lyman on both sides of the ball skill position players coaches if exciting opening based on in the nfl looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to it for you. Okay coach so Just once again When you speak to al if you wanna have fun with him if you just if you're if you're in the mood. I i i don't know when you're to be with them but when you meet with them Just casually in the middle of a sentence mentioned that you've never eaten a green vegetable in your entire life and see his reaction because that he's never done that in his entire life and you know he will jump out of his seat. He will not. You'll be like what so if you wanna have some fun. You could say that. We're talk steak with him but that would be fun and then working in the production. I think he would do that if you just want to. Have you know if you're just in the mood. And you want to just to have a little bit of fun without. Just throw that out there. And just and then you could say you're messing with them because who the hell's never had a green vegetables Police backed up. That's al michaels and then the other one is Just casually work in the match to go on here. i'll use that nineteen be..

"Two zero four rich is the number to dial he's getting set for his final preseason game of august. This is going to be sunday night on. Nbc by the way and chris and the nbc gang. Getting ready for the Opening night which will be between the buccaneers and the cowboys. But the browns. And the falcons will be on nbc. The final game of the preseason period. the sunday night before in advance of the season. Opener of the falcons at home against the philadelphia eagles in week one. He's arthur smith. The how are you arthur. great. Which don't i'm doing fine Have you had a sit down. Chat outer with al michaels before. Could this be your first. Arthur com are probably two years ago in the preseason. They were out of practice. When i was in tennessee. Okay because i wanted to hit on something so. I caught the end of that yesterday. When you're trying to push that with natural light no coach i. I was trying to help him. His nickname is no. He brought up rich. This is my talk. I under the head coach coach. I realized that his nickname was. Mattie is and it's been that way for very long time and i think personally he's outgrown that that that sounds like a nickname from high school college and anything like that but i think that he deserves a nickname. That is more appropriate with his resume and stature and i try to re nickname him the matchel i thought he is. He was working for like a natural light. No monster ship. Travis matthew one so the same demographic interestingly so yeah so so what what would you say as an evaluator as a top flight evaluator What do you think of that. Nickname change if i had to. Maybe put it in your arsenal intel matt that you think he should do it. What do you think. I think i think there's a lot of endorsement opportunities. Okay okay. I think it's a good idea to okay very good. If you want at all at any point today go to him and say i spoke to rich. I think you should go with the matchel. And just and just see how that flies. And i think that would be wonderful for me. I don't know about you or format. That would be great. If you wouldn't make it stick around here. So out very good i would go straight to the top of the atlanta flow chart How are you going to approach. Preseason game number three now that this is the last one of these as opposed to previous seasons. When you'd have a fourth our approach to this it's been interesting. i think preceding has definitely been evolving. Probably the last five or six years around the league and and it's you know people taking different approaches in the past. I think it was pretty standard and the third one was kind of the people. You just called. The dress rehearsal But now with the added game. You've got two weeks it'll be sitting around leagues. See how much people you know. The guys they know are going to be on the roster. So what about you know. Anticipation will probably play everybody. We'll make that determination in the week but as a staff like we're not going into some heavy game plan but we need to get the rhythm of what our season schedule because we're your one so it'll be kind of a hybrid. We're not going to go crazy The game plan but more likely. We'll we'll probably play just about everybody. So ryan the natural. He will get a a snap or two on sunday night. We'll make that station by in the week cocom. But you know we're gonna get all these ready to and we'll see if we put the natural in their thank you sir for using that in a sentence that means a lot to me. You have no idea. What thank you becky. The rest of the crew is Is lamenting because today. Yes all of that move on. I love you but you gotta move on so could not help but notice. You're you're picking up of josh rosen. Now not many times. Will i talk to head coach about a quarterback that's acquired so late in the preseason certainly when his quarterback is knock on with healthy. So what what do you see. Josh rosen what do you what do you think of him and expect. Well you know just gotten to know obviously pretty short time here so we It was unfortunate what happened. aj And we have a roster spot and we. We were a couple of guys out. And we signed josh and We'll get an opportunity to play sunday night at some point. So it's kind of you know you get a week. Here go to really evaluate. He understands that and give them a chance Canoes definitely camp. He's obviously got some arm talent and he's got an interesting story so like all these guys. Good no shot. And we'll get them ready to play. And i won't be decide but he will play at some points on the night. Did you evaluate where you was he on your radar screen your that. He was drafted. When you are with tennessee did you guys. I mean it wasn't He knew that year. I mean for sure. We wanna take a quarterback right early but You know. I'll watch them in to work out. I mean he's got obviously arm. Town is so you know. I don't wanna know buildings. He's been in but he'll get a fair shot here. Arthur smith here on the rich eisen show. And if i am not mistaken we have yet to see kyle pits on a preseason football field In a game and Is your plan to put him out there on sunday night. Right now We're pretty sure we'll play almost play just about everybody We we have. We're going through the week Said not when we're not necessarily going through some elaborate game plan but we just want to get into routine as a year one with the staff and the players here but are routine is and plant is that would cause by guys who will will make that final call saturday. What have you seen out of him. So far that we don't see because we're not We're not privy to. What have you seen about kyle. Pets well i mean he's from character standpoint. He's exactly who we thought we said it's It's unique. He's not even twenty one yet. And you know you picked that high. There's a lot of expectations at you. And he's very mature guy so he's handled it He's coming right along the expected and we've got to put everything in perspective. But we think he should have an impact This season i get to the prediction. But we're very pleased with how cows come on well and then obviously you know You got to pretty darn good tight ends right there and you now have. Is we all know a. Julio jones lewis receiving core but you got readily you got gauge. You got a whole bunch of other kids. What is your offense going to look like with With with the at the helm coach leasing. Look we've got a lot of useful pisa's And a lot of different ways that we can effectively moved the ball down the field where it's like. I said it helps when you do have flexibility at a lot of spots. So you didn't mention lee smith as one of our Receiving weapons okay. But i've i don't mean to. I'd look. I only have a certain amount of time. You know what i mean. I know your time is limited as well but I don't mean to offend..

I saw ernie talked to the alabama football team. Put that on. Television finished in Still some year left radio awards rich and so bakers on this program in our number three also reading mack jones practice play by play. Here ho baby. Well we gotta hit on that hit on that There's lots of talk about on that front and also we've got to celebrity guests today. I'm very excited about johnny. See mcginley is a friend of the show is a fan. I mean he's he watches us. He'll sometimes data's he he and suze think did two shows together our first year filipina Johnny seem mcginley. He's now on brooklyn nine nine right which is a perfect fit and that show gets more stack an betas great and then. I don't believe we've ever had him on. But he's in a new film Called playing god which is available now in theaters. vod all digital platforms and michael. Mckean is just the man. The man i mean going all the way back to laverne and shirley to spinal tap to all the christopher guest movies to playing saul goodman's brother on a better call saul and then on the. That's just scratching the surface so we got a great celebrity true or false for him and your phone calls eight four four two four rich number dial but when a head coach and the nfl says alcohol. "To the group as a whole is all he's doing is memorizing the play. That's all now you might know which part of the play call is for whom. But he's not there yet to actually have the experience to direct it the actual guys so when you're trying to put a team together that makes sense to stick andy dalton out there against who you're sticking out there week one week three it's against cleveland. Grown man myles garrett so on and so forth got it however right now we are brandon. Stay on the show yesterday. Head coach of the los angeles chargers and he rightfully was gushing about just in. herbert had. Just an herbert not played last year. How different a gig would it be for brandon. Staley right now all the stuff that he went through last year because he was forced into a game and anthony. Lynn was forced to go to him and forced to stay with him. Even though you could hear it from anthony. Leonard and wanna do it. And he didn't want to stick with the guy until he started playing like us playing that art. I got it got. Take your lumps sooner. Rather than later and is he gonna take his lumps. You bet that offensive line might not protect trevor lawrence. But maybe protect himself with his legs with a quick release. He does have some talented players. Even with travis h. e. n. out. He's got james robinson. One of the best undrafted players we've seen in the nfl last few years. Let's get an next year. When the jaguars kickoff twenty twenty two. They're gonna be better for congested fields. Not protect himself cannot get out there. Maybe not but again nagy's got that plan just like coach. Dale had the plan. He had these four guys on the floor. The fans are jalan at him. He just waved the game plan in his leather satchel. At them this is what matt nagy is doing. I was there matt. Nagy will tell them. When i saw mahomes have his time on the bench and look at him now okay. This is what i think when. I see trevor lawrence having added or chris collins worth going on his podcast. Saint zach wilson. Looks like an aaron rodgers. He's gonna take his lumps but guess how well positioned the jets are going to be twenty twenty two even borrow blowing out his knee. You don't wanna see that clearly but he had four games under his belt when he comes back in. What's he gonna look like because he had those games is what i think of. I see that you know. He's also going to be in s-o-f-i stadium week one. It appears the los angeles france sony. Michelle sony michelle. All who has now been traded interesting from the patriots to the rams for too late conditional draft choices which means essentially potentially a bag of balls unless sony. Michelle shows up here and performs well and you have to think that the rams are going to give him that shot. Camakers who i adored is we know blew out his achilles daryl henderson is there i guess they look at the rest of the depth. May think we we. You know like that like that. Ocean's eleven seen we need one more. You think we need more. We need one more you know. And just like the that. Ocean's eleven seen with brad pitt and george clooney the conversation between less need. And and sean mcvay between two very handsome man with a great header and so To the los angeles eleven is added sony. Michelle and part of the reason. Why is board of the patriots. Have deep running back corps. See later sony. Michelle and tj. Looks like you're right Stevenson's going to make the team. You're right. I told you while he's probably shown that i'm i don't mean this. In any way shape or form is a joke. He must have shown he can play special teams. Yeah absolutely you know that he can do more than just be that third guy off the bench running the ball like i bet. We're going to see him on kickoff. he's probably shown that he can use some football and tackle and be the the everything you need to be. Do your job type patriot. He's probably shown that. And it's just like okay sony. Michelle rams are calling up less. Needs calling me up a couple of picks and then team better than just cutting. I'm you gotta get you just got every team just got down to eighty yesterday. You gotta get down to fifty three a week from yesterday. So now's the time this is the time to do it. Did you see you've got picked up. By the atlanta falcons. Yesterday did josh rosen. Got picked up by the nfl. Be the one that. I don't know this could be one of those things about you. Know preseason game coming up preseason game number three coming up. Matt ryan definitely not playing. Why care and his allen may j. mccarron's outside. I need a guy that's there right now and this may just be for a preseason game and just a look see and all of that stuff and it's wild that this is what's going. On with josh rosen and the once upon a time tenth overall pick it's his fifth. Nfl team christopher fifth nfl team. I feel bad for the and i bring this. Well i mean unless he's in a spot where head coach believes him and a head. Coach will keep him and head coach. Will you know reclaim him. Just like the head. Coach did with ron tannehill back in the day and the head coach is arthur smith. Who's gonna join us in about eight minutes time. Bhutto baker will join us on this program the arizona cardinals and buddha baker. They just took on the cowboys. Right the arizona cardinals. Yes right from an stayed really took on the chiefs but they took they play that they did play the cowboys earlier in this. Yeah i was there that was. That was a second okay. So games are confused. They played the chiefs this past week but they played the cowboys. I right and i think buddha baker's the only one who was not in that opening Shot of hard knocks. Did you see the drone unbelie work. That's was the star of the latest episode hard knocks. I did not see her. They did a drone three minute. Long story minutes of the star in dallas. It's like the copacabana shot. Dude much more than that. It looks like birdman. it's one long. I mean i don't know how the hell they did that Peter schrager had some details on it. They had a three hour window to shoot this and they got it on the fifteenth thick. Wow wow i mean they're going in and out of a truck window overweight no where they went in and out of the truck window And when they went in and out of the truck window you heard the sports talk radio that was on the truck that was really amazing man on the entered the local reporters doing her. Stand up the timing of all of it. I noticed whatever whatever emmy award is given for for something like that the rest of the rest of our industry just probably will drop the remote. Don't even even about seven of those moments watching ernie johnson throughout the year on. Guess that's.

Now that i know this news. I know that a lot of people are working hard and you know they made that income. So i'm happy and well done mike. Del tufo should be rewarded. You should get a cut. Free month's little taste percent three months subscription somebody so You know what everybody. I'm i'm just sailing Exhaling because i've i've been as you know talking about this for weeks. Yeah and we finally got Some resolution and I've been on the edge of my seat. I've been wondering you know what's going on what's been up in the air. What's been so You know what's been going on behind the scenes and We just found out literally. Fifteen minutes ago Urban meyer is named trevor lawrence starting quarterback for week number one. And i'm i'm happy for trevor. I o brockman ten bucks. I'm happy for trevor You know and Because you know it was a big. It was a big competition that you know We didn't really see play out And it was a big huge mystery. why one of the most generation talented players the History of drafting players out of college into the nfl A guy who's basically lost. I think he he could count on one hand the number of days that he walked off the field and said i lost to dan and And why that guy You know Was it was so up in the air and now it's done so we can all exhale and This rich eisen show exclusive. Is that upon hearing the news Garments you immediately went to the bath. And i'm happy for him And i'm happy for him and So i'm sure he i exhaled. And then he he vacated mom i probably need coffee you know as well competition has been one big diuretic for for flaxseed. You gotta get the Honestly now learning too much information about selects your so there you go jacksonville. That's our lead item For you and it's gonna be. Trevor lawrence versus tyrod taylor. Looks like one. Imagine if it would have been deshaun watson versus trevor lawrence to clemson guys. Come on like clemson re clemson. Could you imagine if that's what what it would have been no. I can't i mean that would have automatically jacksonville versus houston atop a marquee between two teams. That were drafting in houston. Had a spot in the top five draft in the top five. But you know what i'm saying and right but it's not but it's least it's trevor lawrence and i'll tell you this it's it's kinda crazy look urban. Meyer felt the need to. He has to set the stage where he wants to set the stage. We already saw by him signing tim. Tebow this is his stage. He's going to set it how he sees fit. And that's why the kahn family gave them all those millions of reasons to leave fox and hook him up to the hip of one of the most generation talented collegiate football players You know that's been drafted in my lifetime via and urban meyer one of the most successful college football coaches in my lifetime and you match them in a professional sports league that is running more and more and more of the so called college offenses. This is what we call in the business. A no brainer. If shod con could you know. Make it happen. And he did and he did and it makes perfect sense and that said i will just say one more time just trying to bring it all together as to what we're seeing in chicago and why yes. It may be the sensible thing to start. Andy dalton the first week of the season in los angeles as we're gonna see the rams open up so-fi stadium with fans for the first time for a football game. We'll be there. Mike and And also That's aaron donald. That's jalen ramsey. And all that business and it makes sense especially since then i'll bring it up again. We just re posted on our twitter feed yesterday. 'cause i love this sort of inside stuff. Albert breer m. Qb specialists on friday came on the show and told us a story about what he personally heard from the bears staff when he was around their team in training camp. Which is andy. Dalton has full grasp as you would imagine a veteran would have of the play calling mechanism. What is that getting in the huddle. Having a twelve word play call and many of those words are directed to certain parts of the offense. Few words are directed or the protection for the offensive line. Few word is the route of for the wide receiver. Couple words for the running back. Whatever the running backs gonna do. And andy dalton knows which words are for which members of the team and directs that part of the twelve wordplay call visually face to face i contact with the grouping of that personnel in the huddle offensive. Looking right at you for that part of the play call and then he moves around the lie around the huddle to the the guys that need to hear their part of the play call. Directly justin fields comes in inches..

What Should the Atlanta Falcons Do With the 4th Pick?

"Talk about another quarterback order player Who people these days. Certainly no. and that's matt ryan about that for a transition Terrific quarterback for very long time. 2016 was his best year was the mvp of the league with the falcons and took that team all the way to the super bowl and then from that point forward it has been sued of a steady decline for the team despite making the postseason in two thousand seventeen. They've won just eighteen games over the last three years and with that regression the falcons might hit the reset button in this draft with ryan being almost thirty six. They have a new head coach. And arthur smith they have the fourth pick. Overall general manager is teri faulk no and he said quote. We wanna stack good quarterbacks. Its prime time to do it. When you have a player like matt ryan because when you can get in the white quarterback you don't have that pressure play them right away so it opens up so many possibilities and we have to make sure we're evaluating those positions and we feel good about what we where we are there a lot of different ways to take that it certainly what i would say if among other things i wanted someone to come and try and trade for my fourth pick in this draft so teddy. I'm giving it to you directly here if you were the falcons right now. Are you looking to bring in players to help matt ryan try and win a championship again or are you looking to draft his eventual replacement. Said like i said about the smokescreen season. There you go right there you make everyone think that you're okay with draft a quarterback in developing under matt ryan. But you gotta take advantage of the quarterback desperation which is in this draft and everyone one maybe sneak up if they're guy falls to four and go ahead and get him because i think they should build and they need to usually head coaches come in. And they'll want to stack pile not quarterbacks but draft picks in terms of building a foundation model for their team so i would say definitely take advantage of the fourth overall pick trade down. Try to see if you can get some building.

"I mean, if you're gonna look at teams and again, it's gotta be Signed off on by this Shawn Watson because he's got the trade clause in his contract. But the Jets are gonna be one that can position themselves beautifully to say. You're kind of New York Be be the guy that turns this thing around with it with it with the new regime in town and clearly talented pieces around Interesting to see. But you're gonna give up a lot to get to Shawn Watson there. Yeah, you're going to give up a lot, but yet still Salas, a defense of mine. He was the defensive coordinator for the 40 Niners. So if he can sure up that defense, which by the way, Wasn't too shabby. That wasn't a terrible, atrocious defense. It wasn't a few more pieces how you trade away all your draft capital to probably go get to show Watson. But still you gotta defense of mine and head coach is going to change the culture there with the quickness. And then you're gonna maybe perhaps bring in, and I don't know this to be certain, but a lot of rumors about going to get to Shawn Watson. And now you change your offense, offensive identity completely. He's a leader immediately that steps into that locker room. Things look Real different in New York, and then I have to think back to when the Jets lost that first game. They lost that. You know they lost two games. But when they first lost their game, and this is ruining the franchise forever. This is what happens. The jet, you know they were winning by losing, etcetera, etcetera, and now You're set up for them to make some real solid moves heading into this 2021 season. All right, the last fire that we haven't really spent a lot of time and is Arthur Smith, former Tennessee offensive coordinator now being the new head coach in Atlanta. And he also bring her inherits. I should say ah, lot of talent there with Mattie Ryan. We know what the right receivers conduce. They're, um they're they've struggled, though, the last three years to get off to a fast start. In fact. I think they've got lost like their first like seven or eight games in the past three years. I mean, they just struggled out of the gates. And that will be the first thing Arthur Smith is tasked with is coming out and starting out fast winning games quickly right away, not waiting till middle of the season when it's just too little, too late. Ryan Clark, ESPN NFL analyst on NFL live this week, said Arthur Smith was a good hire. In Atlanta. I think you can't have success. There's actually There's absolutely talent on this Atlanta Falcons office, but it's not just about getting them going. It's about them learning to finish football games. This is the team that we all know how the jokes start rolling in the second half. When they have leads up 2083 was 23 is something we will always talk about. Arthur Smith has it has to delegate. He has to find ways to make sure this team understands how to finish. So it's not only about the offense, it's about what he can do as the chief of staff. Not just the play calling. Yeah, no doubt about it. Figuring out a way to not blow leads will be number one, start up fast this season and win some games within the first five or six weeks and then figure out not not to blow leads. Is there one A and one B for Arthur Smith going to Atlanta and I feel like they looked probably directly at their inefficiency in the red zone. I believe that the Falcons were 26 in the NFL in red zone efficiency failed to generate six when they got there. And you go for a creative mind, one that can generate offense, one that could produce and remedy a problem like that, too, clearly played this team amongst other things. But this had created football mind and most, especially on the offensive side, and what he was able to do with an offense and the Titans. Must we talk about the run game? Understand? 1000 elite passing attack as well. And what he was able to do there on that front, draw up a lot of creative stuff. They were strong in the red zone offensively. You're looking at a guy like this to say, okay, You don't have their Kendari. But can you give us a run game? Can you Can you was Mattie Ryan, who's a future Hall of Famer and long in the tooth and on the back end of his career? How much juice can you squeeze out of him there in Atlanta and get this thing going back to right? It'll be interesting to see No doubt about it. All right. We do have a score update for you here in Kansas City because the Chiefs have tacked on to their lead. We'll get to that next because it's a Interesting situation right now in Kansas City. Plus, there's an interesting development going on with the Eagles quarterback situation will dive into all that. Nice. Listen to Game day on ESPN Radio, the NFL's divisional round. Dream a little cold in that area. Joerg office suffered at times and cold in the end, I think the Green Bay Packers get the best of that star studded defense of the ramps..

"From the Niners with them and bringing over that offensive scheme, which fits Sam Donald strength. Sounds like the Jets are gonna be leaning toward keeping Sam Donald which I also think it's a good thing for the franchise. So the Jets during good spot here they appointed picks 20 a cab room. They have a quarterback in place. They just need to develop him properly. And you hope that Sala and the floor gonna be able to do that. Arthur Smith goes to Atlanta, you know again. What do we know? We need to see the press conference is first and foremost that we seem go out there and be a head coach. It's hard to judge a guy who's never done it before. The one thing that you like about Arthur Smith disease. He survived multiple Coaching changes in Tennessee is it was always a hold over on those staffs. You also like the balanced offense that he had with Tennessee. You see it, we'll see if he could apply that. With Atlanta and then, of course, urban liar getting hired by Jacksonville, and I know it's going to be exciting. I think it's great for the NFL because you take one of the not one of the you take v Least desirable, least exciting, least sexy franchise in the league and the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean, is there a more boring franchise in the NFL than the Jaguars? Is there a team that overall nationally, we care less about them? The Jacksonville Jaguars When it comes to the NFL, it's got to be there. Nobody else I know everything comes close. But now you take them and with urban liar and travel warrants, and they become one of them or exciting teams. In the NFL. But I just have a hard time getting behind a guy who Quit twice said he wasn't gonna coach again and truly thereafter coached again. Health issues. That's look you understand health issue should take priority over everything. I don't think that's the whole story, though. With Urban Meyer, it's clear it's not If you were seriously concerned about health issues, it would be coaching again. He leaves Florida My coaching again a month later or whatever. A couple months later takes the Ohio State job because it's a dream job leaves Ohio State I'm done for real. This time takes a broadcasting job. And here he is back. Well, you know what? It's an offer I couldn't refuse. And he'll be paired with travel warns It will be different, though. Cause you're not going to be able to recruit players, however. He may have gone about recruiting, said players at Florida and Ohio State not to be able to recruit players gotta draft him. Big difference. And you're not playing, you know, with all due respect, Rutgers Whatever, Kentucky, this is the NFL Was records even in the big time on urban Meyer was there. Yeah, I don't remember. You get the point. The big difference here. Another step up. I'm intrigued by it. I'm fascinated by it. I think the guy's a great coach. I would never doubt his coaching abilities. But I'm fascinated to see how it translates to the NFL and really, how long he's going to stick it out, because that would be the question upon the Jaguars. Do you trust him? Well, what We're looking at two year thing. Three year thing. What happens if in year two? It's not going the right way with travel? Lawrence's Urban Meyer going to stick it out and try to, you know. Change, be there for the change and be their toe. Get things going. It is going to take a bail is only the Jaguar is gonna be competing immediately. I wouldn't think it's gonna take 345 years. He's going to be there for the duration. He's in this for the long term. We also talked about James Harden and the Nets. Big trade with him. We talked about DJ LeMay, You and Cory clubber going to the Yanks A Zoe, you know? Look, maybe you had to be back in minimum. Kluiber. All right. So the you take low relative low risk of the 11 million when may use essentially getting 50 million year. It seems like that's an overpaid for Cory Clubber guys and pitch in two years, but Luber. Whatever you take a flyer on a veteran guy. I think that the Yankees clearly are working within a restricted budget here, and it's not normal operation. I would argue the Yankees have gotten worse with clubber in comparison to losing Tanaka as that's the guy he's replacing. In that rotation 855 to 1 to 4 to 2 75 5 to 1 to four CBS. Whatever else is on your mind that we didn't discuss. We'll talk about just give me a call the rest of the way..

"Cody. Thanks for coming back on. I in the enemy man. How are you. I'm doing great great to be with you. I'm excited to talk some football absolutely and let's jump right in to the eagles. Coaching search here. Because more names get added to this list everyday to say that the eagles have cast a wide net would be understating it a little bit. You tweeted out. And i think it was either yesterday or today but as a recording. This on the fourteenth is was on the thirteenth. You tweeted out a whole list of names. We've got carolina offensive coordinator. Joe brady tennis offensive coordinator arthur smith san francisco defensive coordinator robert soleil tampa bay defensive coordinator. Todd bowles new england linebackers coach. John mayo kansas city quarterbacks coach mike kafka philadelphia assistant head coach do staley oklahoma head coach lincoln riley ohio state head coach ryan day. Cincinnati head. Coach luke fickle and more are coming each and every day and i know among eagles fans. You know we see this as a pretty dysfunctional team right now. We see this as an organization. That doesn't seem to know exactly what they're doing and we're skeptical as to whether or not a a really high profile coach is going to want to come here given the list of names here. Where are you at on this eagles. Coaching search as there really are just getting started right. Now yeah and we saw it just kellen more added today and obviously you know they're going to continue to cast the net and i think just in general. I think there's a little merit to the idea that you know when you compare openings. The eagles aren't A bursting with attraction just because of the situation. I mean Doug peterson clearly. If the reports are to be believed is is kind of worn down from from this run with eagles. And but i honestly don't put too much stock into this idea that they're undesirable because at the end of the day there's thirty two jobs. There's thirty two head. Coaching jobs in the nfl. We see guys in view with with teams like the jets and the jaguars every coaching cycle. Yes they sometimes have high picks so they sometimes have a lot of cap space but at the end of the day. It's nfl fell head coaching job. You can't tell me you know if you're joe brady and you're getting interest from all these teams. I mean you're not going to just not going to turn down the opportunity and so And eventually some of the spots are gonna get filled For me i mean i. I start for the eagles with looking at the offensive side of the ball. I know that's it's a big talking point. Jeffrey lurie with with you know really any eagles fan. That's been under or watching. Jeffey larry hires run. The team I i think really it comes down to are you going for You're gonna have to sacrifice somewhere. Because with somebody like joe brady even kellen moore. You're really banking on them. Being kind of an offensive mastermind and up and coming mastermind as opposed to this Person who's been around the league for years and respected and you know doug peterson even though he didn't have head coaching experience. Jeffrey loria himself talked about that emotional intelligence he talked about. Doug peterson former quarterback. In this league he had time under andy reid and so i. I think it's just a matter of where are they gonna sacrifice. Because if they go with robert. Sal the forty niners you're sacrificing. You might bring in a nice offensive coordinator with them but he may leave here for another head coaching job. And so what do they want. We're gonna find out.

"Talking to Bobby Carpenter right now, outside of the Jets, just looking at these head coaching candidates that are coordinators. Right now, you hear Arthur Smith from Tennessee, Brian Day Ball with the Bills Eric the enemy with the chief's job. Brady with the Panthers. Also Robert Salad on the defensive side. The boy I know we're in a league now where it's offense, Offense offense, but salad looks like Hey, could do a nice job but a sideline, So we got to see how we translate. Is there a name out of that bunch that there's a preference on or is it all kind of just the same and it's really a guessing game on this stuff. Well, you know, it's tough, but you've ever seen anybody you know, calling. I think, Eric the enemy. Everyone's talking about him. Potentially, you know, being the guy that is shipping next up and house. You know, I had this opportunity, especially in there. We're trying to get my already minority hires, crack and I think you're Eric. The enemy could be really good. I know he's learned on draining Reed and the injuries, giving him some opportunities to call some of the offense. You know, he's a former player. I think there's a creativity to him. So I think you could get it. He could relate to all those things are really important. Well, like you brought up some guys, you know a ball. You know, Solon, You know people like that. I don't. I'm not. I'm not negative on defense of guys because I believe As a head coach like people looking Most successful it coach in Earth or history is Bill Belichick. He's a defensive head coach. That's what how he came up. Now. He learned the offensive side of the ball. He's involved in that. Really. It's about developing systems and developing structures in a culture and an organization getting the right players in the right coach is on your staff, and I don't think that those You know, uh, specific size of all our position company. John Harbaugh has done a great job in Baltimore Special teams coach. So you have to find the guy that shows like Mike rebels in the Great job in Tennessee. He's a defensive coach. It's really just Finding the guy who you believe is a leader who can identify coaching talent and then build the type of team that you want to try The, um, body have that vision. And so they're guys out there. They can do that. Maybe Robert solemn, maybe are the enemy. Well, Brian. Maybe those guys all have that ability, but it's doing sit down those interviews. That's what makes it hard is to try to project somebody who's never done it before a coordinator. You know who's never run a team and only run one side of the ball to be able to understand the organizational structure and to be able to have that type of, I guess, control and success. Bobby Carpenter here with us. Let me take you back to Saturday night on 1st and 2nd down in the moment at the ending of that Dolphins Raiders game. Didn't have a problem with Gruden trying tow run down that clock and then settle for a field goal when they got to the one yard line, though, with about a minute 05 left, I think it to myself. You may as well Just take the touchdown and try to go for the touchdown. If you get to touch down and put you up by five. You could also maybe get up by seven with the two point conversion, But if you don't get it Then you could still have run the clock down and get it to what ended up happening with about 2025 seconds left and you give the ball back to Miami. Still, even where it was in the game, and they end up going by two. They shouldn't have allowed the yard. So let the field goal happen. Take me through your take on the whole Gruden management of the game in the final few minutes. You know, I think that might have been a situation where he probably out thought himself a little bit in Jon Gruden's been coaching this league a long time and talk about a decade off on Monday night Football. Yeah, I think in believe in, believe me. I believe there's a place Um For analytics and football, and I think that that's very important and you're looking, you know situation, Bill Belichick was kind of the first to kind of look at that and understand its importance. Here's the thing you're sitting there on the one yard line. You know if you could take the touch, John and go by five cents will buy seven. That's great if you don't get it, okay. Still settle for the field goal, but trying TOC sometimes burn the clock and you have Ah, you know, Premeditated outcome. Feeling in your players circus Since then, they're not really sure exactly what to do like I think those things you can sometimes get lost. And you know, it becomes a bad situation. Right coming, You know. What do you telling guys to do like offense? It's always score. It's like, okay, what's trying maybe not to score and try to get away do whatever so when you get down there, and you're that close to that point time and you have a chance to go before customers to get a two point conversion. I think you try to do in the safe way and run the ball in Chinatown it in. But you know, you make sure your guys know like this is what we're gonna do them. We have an opportunity to do this woman. You could say you look back at that game They put in Fitzpatrick with 9 10 minutes to go and he made some great plays. I don't know how he got that ball off with his head being yanked in the other direction to Mac Collins. Now for this upcoming weekend. They win there, and if they lose, they need some scenarios to go their way..

"Did you see this common? Did you see the titans rolling up a forty? Burger. On the bills who look they look like the team that had a cove nineteen nightmare with layoffs and close facilities and long stretches without play not the titans. I. Didn't see it coming. I mean I think that if you're someone that just observers football. How much do we know whether or not practice time? Is. A key indicator of success I? Mean I'm saying you never practiced but I think the bills having to split attention I'm talking like deep staff members, players studying tape between the titans and chiefs might have been a bigger factor. But when the game started tonight I mean this game to me is about mistakes by Josh Allen that we haven't really seen up to this point. They came home to roost tonight. The first interception was not on him. That was a deflected ball the second one though was and Ryan Tannehill? Kind of another notch in the belt of Sane for all of us on I'm included in that the question whether the off season and into this season would have been a path that showed us that Ryan Tannehill. Last year was an aberration from the rest of his career. He's not going to reach those typical heights, but he really fits in this offense. He is a tough minded quarterback and we see it with this runs. Tonight we see with him blasting for a first down that it didn't seal the game further sealed the game late late on his pinpoint passes play action attack under Arthur Smith you probably. Generated About Fifteen head coaching interviews during this game because it was on national TV because for some reason, Arthur Smith is still a little under the radar and I think it's about. The Smith the Arthur Smith. I mean you'll see that the future of offense I know it feels like. Like a paint company I get that it's not it's not something that sticks out but the bills defense. Week I. Think we came into the year thinking the titans defense might be the part of that team that kind of lax identity. Well, tonight, they really they put forward a great performance and caused havoc for the bills were the bills defense up the Middle Johnny Smith other guys just being victimized. I'd be real concerned about Buffalo's defense because teams are going to look at this and say, we're going to attack them this way.

"We'll talk about that website what it intends to do what it hopes to do what the what the purpose of it is is a political website. So we can all keeping accurate score of ledge. Slater's as we go through the session. And then three thirty today. We'll talk to the executive director of new injury economy, we own honesty about their latest wins or lays victories and their agenda for the session as well. So that's the plan thirty six minutes after. All right. The legislature yesterday the Senate actually, John Arthur Smith Senate finance committee. Unveiled their budget a couple of days ago. The governor unveiled her budget of seven point one billion dollars. Senate finance committee yesterday unveiled their budget of seven billion dollars. Pretty much the same and overall spending. But putting the money. In some different places, the big ones being education this same. Governor. Senate finance committee. When it comes to education the same. Here are some quick similarities as laid out in today's Albuquerque journal Baltic governor and the Senate finance committee. Call for an increase in the public school funding and formula for at risk students, including native Americans English language learners and those with disabilities. Part of the Martinez. Lawsuit settlement. That has to be actually not even a settlement. More of a decision by Jeff singleton, and there are still Republicans who would like to see repealed. So we don't have to spend all this money on those kids those kids. But the governor. This administration will not appeal it they'll spend the money. All right. Also similarities salaries for teachers and stay workers would go up under ball plans. Teachers would get a five point five percent raise yahu under the NFC plant and a six percent hike under the governor's plan. Not far off those do not too far off five point five into the LLC six under the taxpayer funded retirement contributions for teachers and state workers would increase under ball plans. What we're putting in? Now, what they have to put in some differences though, according to today's journal LLC would not appropriate funding to pay off the entire estimated three hundred million dollar, backlog and state film rebates. LLC would not the governor would. Some negotiations will ensue on that a closing fund economic development. Governor put seventy five million dollars into the closing fund. Seventy-five LLC puts in four million dollars big difference. There. Stay prekindergarten programs. We'd get about twenty five million dollars more under the governor's plan. Then under the plan. After nearly a decade of little or no salary growth. For a New Mexico state government workers they would pocket larger paychecks under the legislative budget plan rolled out yesterday. Rank and file state employees. We get a four percent salary bump and judges would receive a six percent salary increase. Under the austerity budget crunch of governor Martinez. Very little if any razors. In addition the plan called for this is the Yellow Sea plan. Call for twenty seven point two million dollars to be spent during the upcoming budget year to increase how much money the state pays into retirement accounts of teachers and stay workers. Both of these states to large public retirement systems has seen their unfunded liabilities increase in recent years. And he June twenty eighteen downgrade of the state's credit rating was due largely to the concern over the pension funds financial situation, unfunded not fully funded. Meanwhile, the LLC budget plans all plan calls for about four hundred million dollars to be spent on state and local road projects. Four hundred million dollars and additional one time spending on other infrastructure projects. The money would come from surplus state dollars. Not from issuing Newsday bonds. So spend cash on those. Even with the ramped up spending nearly one point five billion dollars would be set aside to put into cash reserves. In case predicted day revenue levels, do not materialize. So when you read like the piece that was in the journal over the weekend is in the New Mexico today by Representative towns in and Representative Montoya one from artesia Townsend from artesia in Monterey from Farmington. They're saying that the Democrats are going to spend every penny. We're gonna frivolously spend. Now, we Democrats in the legislature will spend frivolously spend every single penny of the surplus. My. When in fact, one point five billion dollars goes under reserves reserves that were drawn down under governor Martinez. Darrow state agencies and need to be made whole because under the charity. And economy. During the last few years of governor Martinez. His administration agencies had all their money. They had any money. It was taken away school districts loss are operating fund. Remember when governor Martinez called a day slush fund? So there are agencies in school district that need to be made whole. So one point five billion dollars. We put into cash reserves governor's plan. The legislative recommendations will serve as blueprints for sort of sorts as lawmakers get to work hashing out coming up with the final budget during the sixty gay session, which started at noon today started on time Dila waiting. It's forty three minutes after one o'clock governor where are you governors late? She's late late late. Not.
