"One has been a Pignon for the past three years, man. It's the reason why they'd lost all these all gone days, and they're picking at number four pick overall. So if they get stuck at four They really believe they should pick office of line. If not, they need to find a way to get out of that picture. You know, BJ. It's funny. There isn't one thing that I could hold in on and say, Oh, no, that's the way they got to go. Everything that you mentioned there is on the table, and I think, you know Taken Taken Kyle pits number four would be interesting given what we know of the offense, given what we know of the offense that Arthur Smith ran. In Tennessee. And how does that evolve? You make room for great players. And I think if your you know Arthur Smith And you end up with Kyle pits. That's a player that you can probably adapt some of your offense, too. But that you know the tight ends in that in the Tennessee offense. Maura, the John A. Smith type guys who are good over the middle, but they're also guys you can block And is Kyle pits. Really gonna want to dig in? Put his hand in the dirt, so to speak. Then be a guy that one called upon is gonna block and block hard. Then embrace Running the ball. Did you get that balance? Get the ball. Mm hmm. And I don't. I don't know. I don't know. That's why pin a soul at number four really makes a lot of sense. All right, the stretch drive we've round Turn three or about to round Turn four. And then we're down the back straightaway because I love me some race in the NASCAR, So let's get after it. Talking NFL draft your last chance. At 855 to 1 to four. CBS. What Should the Atlanta Falcons Do With the 4th Pick?

"Talk about another quarterback order player Who people these days. Certainly no. and that's matt ryan about that for a transition Terrific quarterback for very long time. 2016 was his best year was the mvp of the league with the falcons and took that team all the way to the super bowl and then from that point forward it has been sued of a steady decline for the team despite making the postseason in two thousand seventeen. They've won just eighteen games over the last three years and with that regression the falcons might hit the reset button in this draft with ryan being almost thirty six. They have a new head coach. And arthur smith they have the fourth pick. Overall general manager is teri faulk no and he said quote. We wanna stack good quarterbacks. Its prime time to do it. When you have a player like matt ryan because when you can get in the white quarterback you don't have that pressure play them right away so it opens up so many possibilities and we have to make sure we're evaluating those positions and we feel good about what we where we are there a lot of different ways to take that it certainly what i would say if among other things i wanted someone to come and try and trade for my fourth pick in this draft so teddy. I'm giving it to you directly here if you were the falcons right now. Are you looking to bring in players to help matt ryan try and win a championship again or are you looking to draft his eventual replacement. Said like i said about the smokescreen season. There you go right there you make everyone think that you're okay with draft a quarterback in developing under matt ryan. But you gotta take advantage of the quarterback desperation which is in this draft and everyone one maybe sneak up if they're guy falls to four and go ahead and get him because i think they should build and they need to usually head coaches come in. And they'll want to stack pile not quarterbacks but draft picks in terms of building a foundation model for their team so i would say definitely take advantage of the fourth overall pick trade down. Try to see if you can get some building.

"And in theory, you could have Zack Wilson, Mack Jones and Justin Fields on, you know, draftable when you're on the clock, three. Oh, Oh, would that send some reverberations throughout the draft? If that were to go down, which I don't think it's happening. Bob is in California on Justin Fields on the grass show. Hello, Bob. Are you doing Good, Bob. She was some info, man. What he got. Well, I was watching some highlights on Mad Jones and just feel I like to. I like the fact that just feel could get out the pocket. Make some good throws because The 40 Niners yet remembered. The one there I think is either left right tackle. It's questionable if he just got it quarterback. There's gonna sit in the pocket. Uh, Infeld eyes rushes on lot quicker than a college, so they all get to the quarterback. Faster, so we need to have a quarterback. That's mobile. Get the pocket and make a completion. If you got a guy sent back Is and looking at Bree's like 1st, 2nd 3rd. You're gonna get fact, we need a mobile quarterback like Seattle. Arizona. Yeah, we need we definitely mobile quarterbacks. Yeah, Bob, I'm not so sure about that. Only from the standpoint of if you look at some of the most successful times of the career of Kyle Shanahan. It was in using a guy like Matt Ryan, who wasn't the most mobile dude. And if you think about the guy who ended up helping them get to the Super Bowl and Jimmy Garoppolo. You move a little bit, but he's not mobile in a Justin Fields type way, so that's another. It's sort of another sort of Lin to the credibility of the thought process. That is going to be Mack Jones. Now I think every coach would love to love love love to have that guy that can get out of the pocket. And can make those plays. But let's remember, offense is run in structure. And it's nice to have a guy that can get out of the pocket. But when you're really thinking about it It's those throws in the pocket that really make that 40 Niners offense. And be a nice luxury to be able to have. There's no question I just don't think it is as necessary as you do. Uh, having a quarterback that can move also comes in different ways. There is the quarterback that can run there is the quarterback that can run the zone read. There is a quarterback you know, there are quarterbacks who have to be a part of their teams run game solution, and I've never looked at the 40. Niners is one of those teams like that. I've normally been able to run the ball. They get yes, enough movement out of their quarterback to be able to keep people on this, But at the end of the day when you think of the 40 Niners offense Severally based around the quarterback running the ball in my opinion, B. J in Atlanta GREss show, CBS Sports Radio. What's a BJ? It was going on with the Grinch Man. I just gotta say May the Falcon's peak cowl pitch. That will be the biggest mistake terrifying. No will make as general manager of this team because he's a sexy pic. He's affected pick and I believe that the only sector pick That would be digestible in this city, and for Arthur Blank would be just the field. It just it feels it's in there. I'll be I will be able to digest that. But Help. It can protect that rhyme That wine has been a Pignon for the past three years, man. It's the reason why they lost all these dogs on days and they're picking at number four pick overall, so they get stuck at four. They really believe they should pick office of wine. "Football hall of fame is their. This team was in a super bowl year. Now listen that story is not a super positive ending. But that's still got to the super bowl. Now they have a brand new head coach. Who is joining us right now. Head coach of the atlanta falcons formerly offense coordinator for the tennessee. Titans gentlemen arthur smith. Let's go coach houria great. How're you doing. Hey what's what's life like down there. Your head coach is only thirty. Two of you in the world. Congratulations deal it's not easy appreciate it. It's funny because everybody always thought andrew was the titan killer put. It was really you. Thank you thank you. I appreciate the the acknowledgement there. And we'll talk about your time there. You were quality control assistant quality control assistant. You work your way up there and we talked whenever we were leading off the show. Saying you're going to be here. Your dad is obviously an incredibly successful person. Okay and that obviously leads to a thought of. Why wouldn't this dude. Just go do that in making an incredible amount of money. I believe the story goes. Is you just love. Football sleeping on couches in the office drawing cards britain coffee fell in love with football. How did that happen and has it always been this way. Have you just been football like addict. Basically your entire life. Yeah mean. I started playing when i was nine years old in memphis and my brothers did and my dad was an all marine kind of wants to play football so we didn't a spoiled soft kid.

"If he is there if I'm wrong, and Mack Jones goes three, then I love the idea of Justin Fields here. I just think he's far too talented. But the most recent report now is that they're going to be bringing much of their their staff in their scouts. To North Dakota State. Don't get a closer look at Trey Lance again, and it certainly sounds like they've been really intrigued by the quarterbacks, but I also think they might be doing this to somewhat. Push up. The value of that number four pick in hope of the team, like Denver at nine would would be interested in moving up. Maybe even a team like New England at 15. I just feel like this team in Atlanta is is really going to try to capitalize on this window with Matt Ryan. I know the owner Arthur Blank, loves him. He's got so much mutual respect for Matt Ryan. Whether it's a year whether it's three years whatever's left in this window, I feel like they're gonna capitalize and I personally think of a player like Kyle Pitts makes a ton of sense when you When you look at the offenses that Arthur Smith has ran, he likes to run with multiple tight end sets. He likes a versatile chest piece if you will at the tight end position. John Smith was one of those guys. Well, Kyle pitch fits that. But I also like thought of tonight's school. So that's the player I circle, too. It's just best offensive lineman in the draft. You could easily put one of your tackles at left guard. It's probably easier said than done, but I still think that's an option. And because James Carpenter was let go this offseason, he was their starting left guard. They gave him big money. He's gone. So when I connect the dots, capitalizing on that Ryan's window I really come down to the NYU school. Or Kyle Pets. Interesting. Russell Brown cover one, joining me talking some NFL draft. I think the Bangles air in a great spot Russell, especially if the Falcons take a quarterback or trade out of there so that somebody can move up. And take Trey Lancer Justin Fields or Mac Joe's. Whoever's left over because it's almost like Cincinnati is getting the number one pick in the draft two years in a row because they wouldn't be using the number one pick. On a quarterback with Jo Bro. What do you think about the Bangles of five? It's a great way of putting it, Shawn because you're absolutely right. They know they're not going to take a quarterback. Even if they were picking number one this year. Maybe they would be interested in trouble. Lawrence don't get me wrong, But beyond that, beyond that, I mean, yeah, they could really take their pick. Whether it's a nice cool, Kyle pitch. What, Really? It's pointing to Jamaar Chase. That's where the rumors were kind of starting T show up and He has the highest odds of anything in the sports books of being the first receiver off the board, and you don't always have to trust those things because obviously things will happen different from what Vegas says. But in reality, he makes so much sense for a team that really needs a true number one receiver AJ Green is gone. Tyler Boyd is at best. The number two You. You put in tea, Higgins. He's probably at best. The number two. You need that She number one you get a familiar face for Joe Burrow. And while I love the thought of getting protection from Joe Girl, they've added Riley's leave everything that they've done free agency has been needs. One year to year. Deals on the offensive line could buy themselves some time. They're going to go get a playmaker that fits Joe Burrow and that players without question Jamaar Chase. So I think, with Tamar chasing the first phone, they could easily look in the sac around and at a player like Alex Leatherwood, the left tackle lot of Alabama stand cause me the left tackle out of Texas or even a Dylan, right guns out of the village, Dakota state who could play all five positions, so they've really got the luxury of sitting at that fit spot. And getting the playmaker that they need. How many Alabama players do you have going in the first round right now? Well, you know, that's a funny question, cause I was just looking at that earlier today, the odds have it at like over under survive and a half. I think for Alabama in the first round, so Just walking through it real fast. I mean, you've got Max Jones. Devante Smith. Jalen Waddle. Um, I don't think I'm missing anybody there, nausea Harris, I think could go so that's four. Patrick Surtain would be five and I have Alex Leatherwood going in the first round, so I actually have six and my most recent mock draft. I have six going so it would not surprise me. If we did see six. I won't even be surprised if we ended up sins, maybe even seven. I mean, there's so much talent there. Deonte Brown is a guard, but teams that need offensive line help at the back end of the draft if they feel like he's plug and play A little rich for some, but crazier things have happened. You got Christian bar more on the defensive tackle. Maybe the best defensive tackle in the draft just from a pass rushing standpoint, I mean, he had 37 pressures this past year, which the most of any defensive tackle, so he was invited to the draft as well. I always keep tabs on that players that were invited, and if he was invited, that means there's a shot that he goes somewhere in the first round. Interesting. Russell Brown. Joining me cover one NFL draft talk here on CBS Sports Radio, I guess just specifically one of the names you just said not Jay Harris, who was he was incredible this past season and I we know how the NFL looks at running back so, however it in recent years, it still hasn't stopped some teams from taking quarter or taking running backs. I should say near the top of the draft Shaquan Barclay a couple of years ago. Obviously Leonard for Net Christian McCaffrey and the same draft that was back in 2017. Where does not J. Where is not to hear a stack up in this draft? And where does he stack up compared to some of the McCaffrey's in the sick one Barkleys of the world that that have been drafted high and done some things that look like it justifies them being drafted that high We certainly isn't e mean, I hate saying it because he is a such a fun player to watch. He's gotten better every single year in that Alabama offense. I mean, you're talking 26 rushing touchdowns in 2020 alone, but this was so many quarterbacks that's pushing him down the board and then obviously the offensive line so I don't think he'll he'll go that high. Obviously, Miami at six would be That would be a shocker. But if they felt like they couldn't get him at 18, because Miami does need a running back and tool and nausea, they you know the rumor is that those two are closer than what a real Real brothers are like I mean, those guys have such a strong bond. So maybe he is the guy at six. If let's say Kyle pits and Jim are chased her off the board and they didn't like any of the receivers. Maybe they settled for nausea at six. I mean, that would be extremely rich, but Crazier things have happened. But realistically, I think the most ideal landing spots for him 18 for Miami. The Jets at 23, Pittsburgh at 24. A lot of circles have said Pittsburgh at 24. They really are intrigued by him..

Alex Leatherwood Matt Ryan JIM Russell Brown Tyler Boyd Arthur Smith John Smith Aj Green Jay Harris Patrick Surtain Jalen Waddle Max Jones James Carpenter 2017 Kyle Pitts Deonte Brown Russell Shawn Devante Smith Joe Burrow

"Hello wednesday march third incredible show. Let's get right to it. I guess sounds good. Hey i'll tell you what i mean. I don't know what i was expecting going in. But this certainly does not disappoint said this yesterday. We thought that he was going to be paid off. Tennis shows fucking awesome are. Let's get to it. Hey by the way if you enjoy the show please be a friend telephone. Let's continue to grow this okay and if you don't like you show. The boys are buzzing in. The office has a mind because in roughly twenty two minutes and five seconds. We'll be joined by mc dc motor city. Dan campbell head coach of the detroit. Lions cannot wait the chat with him about everything that has taken place in his life over the last month or two from his press conference to decisions they've been making. I'm not allowed okay. Hey listen this. Particular show operates much different than most shows. All right Turned down guests. If there's you know hey pitch this this duty at this time out or whatever. I'm like all good. I'm fan. Don't want that to be how our conversation goes though i had a chance actually potentially make content with tiger fucking woods in tiger woods is entire people. Said you do this. You can do this. You can't do this. You can't do this. And i said all right. I can't set the precedent. That that's what i'm gonna do. I appreciate it big fan. We'll always loved man but that's not how this thing they say cool they move on so i try to set a precedent that you know abide by these people's rules. I promise if you come on the show you're going to look good. I would assume okay. There's been a couple that have looked terrible. Shuttle jerry rice worst interview. I've ever had my time like are some other people as well. We just didn't have good chemistry. But if you come on the show it's probably gonna make you look good okay. You're probably going to have a good time in whatever you're selling we'll kit to like it's not going to be though it's not going to be like the thing but we'll get to whatever in by the way we help people become a fan of you so that whatever you do they'll fall us sponsorship. Okay there are a fan of the person so no matter. What the sponsorship. They're going to go for the foundation. That's kind of the goal of the show. Let's not set any you know parameters or things we can talk about. I got a message yesterday about my conversation with. Mci he is not allowed by the nfl's rules like strict rules. He's not allowed to talk about. Jared goff being their quarterback next year or matthew stafford not being there quarter. He trade hasn't been officially at the. Nfl says he is not allowed to talk about that at all. So i'll be intrigued to see how i dance around that. Would i have agreed to this. Conversation with 'em. If i knew that yes because this is an emcee making these roles it's the nfl making these rules. So i wanna make sure that's known you know going forward that this is but i don't know how the fuck them i didn't know this until last night or this morning basically. I got this message. What am i supposed to. How are we supposed to the whole. That's where the team begins and ends is. We got a new quarterback. We got a new new gunslinger at schmidt. How am i supposed to bounce around that in how. I'm sure he'll be able to talk. Like quarterback forward is guy who bob blah blah. So i'll probably say. Let's say it's a your quarterback next year that particular player. What he looking for out of that point. And that's what we'll have to say quarterback x one. Qb one what we'll do. Qb one app grumpy. No by the way great shirt. Motorcity dan campbell shirt you've got. I think you'll respect that. Although he is a metallica fan am cdt. A playoff ac dc. I believe those two fan bases are kinda go head to head or whatever because those to make incredible. I'm not center. I'm not in that community. As much as i should be. But i can't wait to talk them. Cdc about qb one and detroit and all the decisions. They made a comment. The other about being a true alpha knows when to concede for the betterment of the group. I mean i feel like this is going to be loaded with action and also today in the second hour is it head coach. Wednesday arthur smith new head. Coach of the falcons one hour from right now. This man's father is maybe the most interesting man to ever exist tie was doing some research on his wikipedia looked into them a little bit. We shared a conversation this morning. Arthur smith is now the head coach of the atlanta falcons formerly of the tennessee. Titans his dad graduated from yale. Vietnam vet yet decorated vietnam vietnam vet decorated vietnam vet. He somehow got four million dollars in inheritance inheritance. Money starts fedex at some point after being a decorated vietnam vet and taking his inheritance to start a federal express shopping. Or whatever they're buying planes coming ends up at a point somehow back in the seventies right. This is seventy ends up at a point. The story goes. He's down to his final five thousand dollars so three point. Nine nine five Dawn trying to make the business work. He gets down to his final five thousand dollars. Goes to vegas gambles. It makes twenty eight thousand dollars refunds. What he has gone on for the gas in equals now. Fedex is multibillion dollar company. that's arthur smith's father. Now if you're dead is this human. I'd assume some of those traits. Carry over i would assume the thought of Hey why don't you go work at fedex and just make so much money in probably a much different lifestyle. I assume arthur smith been asked about that he just loves football just like completely addicted to the game of football. Loves the game of football. I'd assume these very open about like if this didn't work i would but i assume he's still had to sleep on couches at offices. I assume he's still had to run the printer. He had hold the cards in practice the fact that he chose to do that knowing that what else is available for them for me. I have a lot of respect for that. I don't have a lot of respect for rich. Kids okay..

Then we'll go to the phones. Um And and I was watching this. I don't know, maybe, like I caught myself crying while watching this episode of Leave it to Beaver. Yes. Leave it to Beaver. I I grew up watching. Leave it to Beaver. It was in syndication in the afternoons during the summer when I stayed home from school, so you'd be able to see see the beef. And it all all his friends. Why were you crying during? Leave it to Beaver. So there was an episode. Where were Wally and the Beav? One of the Get Ward there, Dad. A special jacket. Was it a jacket was the jacket So they were trying to take their money that they had saved to go buy this jacket, But they wanted to be a surprise, so they wouldn't say they were trying to buy it for him. So he was mad because they were trying to use the money for something that he thought was foolish for them. But then they win. They did it anyway. They were able to get enough money and at the end of the show, he's yelling at him. And then the delivery driver comes and gives him the you know. It's like this is for you, Mr Cleaver, and he opens it up. And then he realizes They were trying to do all these things for May and I was yelling at him for the last two days because they were trying to spend their money and I caught myself and I'm even getting emotional thing about it right now. It was just like you were talking about little house on the prairie was just like it was a good story. I don't know. Like you felt like that. It was a good It was real that he was trying to be a good dad. The treat teaches kids responsibility and you don't waste money on something that's fullest. Save the money. It's important all they were trying to do with something good for their dad. Because they you know they love them, and they wanted to do something nice for him. So when I did I was I was down. I was downstairs in my basement. Get readyto Go on the air and I'm all the sun. I'm crying watching. Leave it to Beaver. It was a nice moment, Itwas 8552 and two for CBS, 8552 and 24227. And we'll go to the phones here. And if you have a show that people would be shocked that you watch you can give it to us. Can is calling from Atlanta. He's listening on 92 90 game. Probably down there in Atlanta. What's up Can How are you? We're doing good, huh? You're gonna have to get out more, man. Well, you're right where it is in the middle of a pandemic in the Northeast. Little bit different than the south. Yeah, Yeah, you're right. Listen, man, I couldn't help, but But here, you and and I totally agree with you, man. If Justin feels is sitting there, number four My new GM pass up on him. May I don't need you for my GM. I don't need to. I don't need to be another Chicago bear. But we pass up on Patrick. My homes and My man, Bashar Watson and move up to go Get your biscuit. Are you kidding me? Go get your franchise quarterback. Put your stamp on this franchise. That's my new GM. I know he and a new coach Arthur Smith, a floater at eyes and when I hear up and wants to Tight in he wants to quarterback. Look, I brought you in here to pick the groceries. Go get your quarterback. Let's move on and go try to win the Super Bowl with Justin feels within the next two or three years, man. Yeah. And like I cannot understand the thought of this holes all over the team, you gotta build the team. What you need is a quarterback right like that. That's the biggest hole and I'm sure Matt Ryan can still play a little bit. But if you don't have your quarterback of the future, you're gonna be searching for your quarterback of the future. If he's there now, get him now. Don't wait. Now, everybody, exactly. Everybody talking about what? You can get a quarterback in late in the later rounds. Not a Justin feels. Look the only way I would move out of it for spot and then San Francisco takes Justin. I would may move up and I would still consider getting a quarterback and train Blanche. Right here. He's pretty decent to man goes and get your quarterback man and build a team around your quarterback Matt Ryan is done. He was done in 2015 or 16. When he bought a 25 point lead and Super Bowl, right, man, you know? So go go get the quarterback, man. I've seen enough from that right. Thanks, guys. Alright, thanks can appreciate it. Yeah, like it's it's difficult for me to say that Even though I I I've actually I've been a part of Matt Ryan's Matt Ryan. He does. He's from suburban Philly where I'm from, So he's come back up here. He comes up very frequently, and he has his. He has his, um, his a benefit for his foundation. And he's a charitable guy. He's a great guy. He's a great guy. He's a great family. But if I'm running a football team Matt Ryan isn't good enough to win anymore, right? Is he going up the win? 789 games..

"Bowl. What do we know or we schmuck saying. This is like this is like this practice you do. What are you talking about. No you do it every day. It's a hobby a hobby. Do you do it every day when you do the one big show your i. Same way game day morning for the super bowl is not the same. Prep that you do for every game that you do every week. Hang on a second. I don't believe that. Hold on a second. There's no way. Mike i agree. Doing an eight and a half hour show is different from doing a three hours directly. I totally understand that. I bring my soda is same level of expertise and preparedness. And so do i. but with it's a different feeling when you do it all the time. This is a you do it all the time. It's like it's like like the hoosiers dude. Just measure the rent. Hold the measure your chair to the fater. It's the same thing with me to the button. It's the same thing it's just a different. It's a different kinds like naturally. I do it so much when you do. The one off big joe. You're totally different world as a mixer. I'm telling you guys that feeling you get in the stomach. It's like i don i mean again. I give one hundred percent. You know you guys know me. I live what i do. I take it really seriously. Complain of utter one. Great mixes my license plate. I'm nuts care ashoka so much so you have a name boat yet have you. I don't know but that's beside the you know the way it is. But that's what i'm saying when you have that level you know the way you don't it's like you get this. It's like you get get used to things. You do the superstitions that you get into yes. I'm crazy like that when i do like but you don't bring any of them to our show you guys have. That's next to you. I wear the same jacket. Or how do you know that this isn't a part of the precision because you don't win every day. Bridget thousand dollars check a day. When i'm worn this. Is that something to brag about or it gets washed. Okay it gets washed. But that's a superstition. i add. Excuse me hundred percent. Hold on a second short question question. Is that the only nfl network. Thursday night football only put one. I have with this logo. Okay swear to god on my life. So that's a superstitious. That you or superstition i bring here. Yes but but still we retire somebody. You're sure your shorts here wearing his pants. Every time he had them laid out on the ground before theon superstition. I have that. Oh you am. I bet you have the same type of thing. Nobody don't you don't have any before you do a big show. No i show up. I totally i mike. Show up. i got eight and a half hours to do in tampa guest army. Do i'm going to do the same thing i do every time i'm gonna go crush it. I'm gonna go kill it. Because i'll be prepared because i prepared for everything away. I get in the car. We cannot car. I'm telling you you guys how har- there's like. I got up the passenger door. Put my bag in the passenger. Go to the other side. Open up the door. start the car. It's like the difference between superstition and ocd. Like they're not the same. No no no. It's superstition for me. So you're consciously doing that hundred percent didn't even know this about him because he's making it up as that's why it's hard to know something. They never really have a good one for ever. We love. I used to wear the same shirt for all of the super bowls for nfl. Network like i had a shirt it makes. Sometimes you wear that jacket. I had a shirt that i wore every one on. I'm telling you guys. I'm superstitious is. This is it that night. Because i'd have some swear words you guys if you don't feel you have no idea what it's like to be like this and and i mean. Oc the supers and that's why dr. When he says that. I totally get why. He did what he did. By the way speaking of learning something you may many people may not have known if you have any as to whether arthur smith loves coaching. If you have any questions as to whether arthur smith raft question is whether he's all and his dad created frigging fedex. I mean you wanna talk about money. Coaches strolled around for the washington football team. And what they used to be known in the world's largest air bill which is what fedex field really is like if you ever if you've ever gone affects build you don't really know until you get up close to the building which teams playing in the building. You would think it's like okay. It's it's a huge stadium that's been built for the Fedex office pool flag. You know what i mean. And he's drawing around there and oh yeah that's my dad's company. We really break like and again. I don't know if it's a touchy subject for him. Because i kind of you got it. I looked over at you. You looked at me. No when i said to him on like so. You like things being done overnight. That was funny. You know where you tell somebody you give member on your staff a task you check the to two day. boxing dislike. We'll check in a couple of days. Anyway i mean packages. You guys don't know true that i was hoping you were gonna ask what can brown do for you and say okay. "Three. They're going to take a quarterback but who and then one of the Falcons due to discuss Is a very talented host for our Odyssey sports station down in Atlanta, 90 to 9 the game. You can listen to him. 7 to 11. Just get the honesty happy and listen to him even on demand. His name's John Structure, and he joins us right now. What's up, John? Man. Good to be with you. And always good to talk to somebody and spells Jon the correct way Absolutely. J O n. That's the only way it should be. John. That's right. Absolutely. And we are also in the club of every time that someone misspells our name. We feel disrespected because it's like that's not the way I spell my name, sir. Yeah, I guess it almost 50 years old. I don't expect much less. I'm just used to it by now. My last name. I'm Mark. So I get a lot of m a r X. So have the first name people spelled wrong in the last name. They spelled wrong. Um, John, I'm gonna see a million dollar question right off the bat. What the fact is gonna do it for I think, ultimately, to quote a line from the Godfather. They will get an offer that they can't refuse. And I think they will trade down. Um you know that pic is really where the NFL draft starts is what the Falcons have it number four. We know what position He's going in the first three picks and really no matter what the name is on the back of the jersey Even if it's you know, and I think it'll be Justin Fields of three. But no matter what somebody is in love with one of the other quarterbacks that will be left. There's Denver nine. Whether it's Washington in 1915, somebody's gonna want their guy and I think ultimately the Falcons get an offer that's too good to pass, so they have too many holes. You pick one guy That's gonna fix a lot of things that number four for them. How much of this does this have to do with Matt Ryan? And the fact is, I hear this from a lot of people all the time. Is that well that Ryan's look out a year or two Good years left. So you start to rebuild. You see what you still have with Matt Ryan? You worry about the quarterback later. Is this a nostalgia thing with Matt Ryan? Do you think that that part of it is drafted high by the Falcons may be a Hall of Fame career took him to a Super Bowl They want this is Arthur Blank. Want Matt Ryan to retire as a falcon? You know? This is what I always say about about. Matt is in the relationship with Atlanta. I have a hard time believing that Arthur Blank is ready to move on from a guy who has Well, what's he paid him about? $260 million in his NFL career. He's been a pillar in the community. He's one of the most respected guys both on and off the field in the NFL. I do have a hard time believing that the owner of the franchise is ready to just move on, because I'll say like this Matt Ryan, I think it's still part of the solution for the Falcons. He's certainly not their biggest problem for the Atlanta Falcons. And when you have a roster that has Your Mets. That's the most important player in the history of franchise. Julio may be the best player in the history of franchise When you start with two guys like that on your franchise, it's hard to throw that term rebuild out there when you have a dominant defensive tackle that Grady Jerrick on elite middle linebacker like Dion Jones. Ah, very talented rookie corner and aging Terrell, There are a lot of pieces to laugh of his football team. That it's hard to just throw out that word rebuild for a team that I know in. The NFL can be a lifetime ago. But you know, in 2016. They were in the Super Bowl, and they were divisional playoff team the very next year. Port, So we're not 10 years removed from they were a decent franchise. I think they have a lot of issues that they have not been able to fix and solved. But I don't think quarterback has been their biggest one side. So before we explore where you could trade back to, um, is there is there. Is there a scenario and I agree with you? I think Justin Fields goes three. I don't buy this. Mack Jones locked to the 40 Niners going in three. I think Justin Field should go three, and that's where he's gonna end up going. If he doesn't is there a scenario where we're terrified, no looks at it and says the faculty and looks at it and says, We really like Justin Fields, We'll draft them. And we can still play Matt Ryan and therefore, you know, like he's still here. He's playing. We don't the rush fields on the field. I mean, do you believe that? That is at least a possible scenario. Absolutely. I definitely think that quarterback at number four is a very realistic possibility of either Justin Fields or trade lands. I think that's the two guys that that based on everything we hear and understand. Now, if you believe some of the reports internally, Arthur Smith does believe in that Ryan and kind of, you know, says him of the same things that I've been saying that I don't think he's part of the other problem that he's part of the solution. But there are other hole that you have to fix more immediately. But yes, his quarterback and play it for I believe so. But my thing is this, John. Everybody says, you know well, because it's the narrative we're hearing, actually. Well, the Falcons will never be in a position like this to pick you know, potential franchise quarterback again. Right. My answer to that is tell me specifically what their pick is next year, because there's a big difference between okay, let's say they on it for but they picket eight next year, or are they picking a 26? If you're picking the 26? Now you're a divisional playoff team. That's a potential conference championship team that you're gonna tell me that Matt Ryan's gonna be gone in the year off a team that's knocking on the door trying to get to another Super Bowl. I just find that hard to believe in the NFL that a franchise moves on that quickly. If you're in a winning position, because it's so hard to find Ah, guy at that spot, look at any team. Just keep drafting and grafting and drafting quarterback because if you don't have one of those guys You can't win the ultimate prize in the NFL. It's not surprising that Tampa Bay wins the Super Bowl literally by their biggest movies. They make the change at the one important position and they go from Hey, there, Mike's little team too. Hoisting the trophy the next year. Yeah, no, that about a John Schuck ary 90 to 9 the game in Atlanta. You probably listen to him. If you're listening to us right now in 92 90 game is were there on Sunday morning..

"Is not going to be the quarterback of the say. This can't say we can't say you don't know that's just again to use the phrase that bob kahn ali. One of our favorite guests that good friend of the program. Good friend of mine. His nickname is his fantasy team. Name is just a tip and you know at the and there's many different ways to phrase but It's just the tip of the iceberg. We're seeing here. I mean romo said in a bunch last all my gosh two weeks ago. Honestly this just you know is there. How much is is there underneath. Is this just something that gough needs to be here to like the fire right. I don't know. I'm not a capitalist. I don't play one on tv. I know how much wentz his contract is. and i. i know golf's in that neighborhood. And i'm assuming it structured in a similar way 'cause such a large amount of money and at some point this is going to have to get paid out and if you trade or you you release somebody something particularly significant. That's why the eagles are now on a new head coach. It seems because the new head coach Is going to make the decision. According to the eagles that they were not allowing doug peterson to make can got him out of there. Three years after winning super bowl again. That's just insane that's got fired. That's still just the tip of the iceberg there and the rams are handling this situational differently. Is your guy the quarterback. He's our quarterback for the moment and is that something needs to hear have something lit or are they really thinking about going else and add that to the fire that is already burning. Bright in the nfl. Non playing season. Hearth of deshaun watson texans situation matthew stafford's lions situation. We haven't even twitched in the direction of the chicago. Bears quarterback situation in quite some time. The indianapolis colts have a quarterback spot. That has been opened by the retirement of philip rivers. We haven't even seen what we are expecting to happen. The drew brees retirement announcement in new orleans. That's all on that fire in the nfl hearth. A word now used twice in a span of two minutes. I rarely use it. And then there's what aaron rodgers has said. How much fuel is there to this. How much of a log is that to throw on this burning quarterback fire. I don't know. I don't know if he knows our good buddy. Pat mcafee apparently did not know until the moment before arron rogers says i'm calling in in my usual spot on his tuesday show that he was actually calling in on his okay because we were wondering that yesterday morning know. Yeah apparently so pat and so you know that blew my setup. I was gonna throw to the sound bite on a tv. Show radio show. But i've already gone ahead so mcafee show which is on tv and radio so Pat did get our rogers on and aj hawk and an pat and aaron rodgers Triple screen that. We've been seeing all year long aaron with his. I'm assuming that's home with a beautiful stone in the background and aaron added a little bit more Perspective to his very moving and emotional postgame press zoom on On sunday after losing the nfc championship game to To tom brady and basically saying i don't know what the future holds me and there was a lot of what we were. Assuming was a problem all year long and the fact that he brought it up a couple of times talking about his future being unknown years. What's next for him and all that beautiful mysteries and during the week last week. So here's what Aaron rodgers had to. I don't feel like. I said anything that hadn't said before You know. I said. At the first time i talked to the media Disobeys more a real realization. I think that ultimately my teacher is is not necessarily in my control. And i think that was. Just kinda hit me the moment i was thinking about you know. Aaron jones and corey lindley Other guys we have under contract a big dog. You know guys who. I don't know what their future is going to be and then myself included Now obviously after the season that i had You know potentially when mvp and we made it Another good run. I don't think that there's any reason why wouldn't be back but look i. There's there's not many absolutes as you know in this business so to to make an absolute statement about something that is is not an absolute just i. I didn't do it. You know. And i guess that's why i went. Kind of nuts okay. He didn't make an absolute statement. Which is why people went kind of not status correct. That is correct. And again the fact that he brought his future up it wasn't even in response to a question of Of his future right he was talking about and this is the you hear this all the time from players in. It's a fact it's a fact when you lose a playoff game. Certainly a game like this in a game like this and a season and that was going as well as as as rogers personally and the team collectively you do look around a room and you know it's not going to be like this again and this is the the group the team that that the invariably the like there's never been a fifty three man roster that's been run back all fifty three men. You know the draft comes as which we all know about green bay and then free agency comes in retirements happen enforced. Retirements happen in players. Go and calm and free.

corey lindley Aaron jones Aaron rodgers aaron rodgers aaron doug peterson yesterday morning new orleans last week aj hawk two minutes fifty three men One two weeks ago tuesday deshaun watson bob kahn ali Pat mcafee twice fifty three man

"But i just don't like wouldn't guys promote themselves and we had the t o situation a couple years ago which wasn't surprising because it was t all right. You can almost expect that if he didn't get in which he didn't for a couple of years that he was going to say something that's consistent with kind of how he's but by and large and i'm not giving him a pass on that at all but i'm just saying that that wasn't so much of a surprise but by and large you know if you're hall of famer you don't have to campaign raised and and i think that's kind of the way i've always looked at it and one thing that i've actually told some guys. Because as voters in you know what peter you'll hear from people not only their supporters. But you're from guys you know individually themselves. Or what do i need to do to get in. And what can i do. And it's almost like you know. Just trying to bribe the judge a couple of years ago. A guy who hadn't been in and really wanted to be in texted me and he said hey. Can you tweet re tweet. This there was a story that had been online about this guy's case. Hey can you re tweet. This for me. And i wrote back to him and i said dude i said i love you but you know you should be involved like that. You know you shouldn't be asking voters to re tweet stories about you. But yeah i. I feel i feel. I feel the exact same way. We've only had a couple of minutes left. And i wanna hit you with one other thing. What would you do if you are. Houston texas general manager. Nick caserio or owner cow mcnair. How would you try to solve the shawn watson problem right now yeah. It's it starts with medication. Peter and so. I know that there have been reports that they're going and i'm sure they will ultimately have some sort of meeting some sort of face to face meeting and i mean it's a critical thing you talk about What we've heard that perhaps they can trade him You know that's crazy. I think about that it's crazy. What would the kansas city chiefs trade patrick mahomes with the ravens trade. Lamar jackson about right now So you've gotta try to mend some fences. So i mean i think that's really the first big challenge nick caserio in terms of you know how he's going to operate moving forward. I guess. Think about all the great players. Who have you know left. Houston over the past. Couple of years. The andre hopkins and Debbie cloudy right and we'll see what the future is for jared ignored. I've come to think of. I've come to think about this. I think they almost have to hire the enemy. Because he's the guy who at the start of this process. That's the guy. Because the sean i. I don't think shawn watson patrick. Mahomes are like best friends. But i think it's like a brady manning thing you know. They're they're they're in touch lot. They like each other You know and and and i think Mahomes is basically convinced to shawn watson if you get this guy. You're gonna be the happiest quarterback in the nfl. That's that's just my gut feeling and it's it's sad that it's happened to get to this point because you said the same thing because i said something similar a month ago before all of this brahma to place and so i think that's the fundamental issue when you talk about the shawn watson Texans upper management in terms of. You know how colleague process does deal. Then they should brought it airbnb right from the start and you know whether that was going to be a fit but yeah. I can't disagree with you on that one. So stay tuned. Right jared bell. Usa today thanks so much for helping me out and my podcast this week. A lot of information da. Good after nine hours with you yesterday. Another batsman hey listen thanks a lot. We'll be in touch. Okay man take care. Thanks mike thanks. We knew where we weren't gonna trade back if anything we move up or face some random random guy that you know and sometimes it worked down sometimes the doing but I find this all exciting but overall i mean again. I can't keep saying it over and over but the do just blew me away in this press conference in. There's more common stuff like that. And he atten mentioned a whole lot about the roster. I don't even think he got really into arthur. Smith seem to get a little more into it but Yeah i'm just excited There's a lot of moves to be made. I mean with the whole cast space situation. Excited perfectly said gena any final thoughts. Arthur smith or terry front though. We close on the podcast. Now i mean. I'm just really excited having watched tennessee's offense over the past few years You know knowing what he brings to the table having heard what they both have say. I'm especially excited about font. No you know it was fun for me. Since i couldn't watch the press conferences live. What i did have was. Just a constant stream falcons fan reactions and during knows Interview he prosser. Everybody was just going nuts. Like everybody up tim. Everybody was super excited and so it was just nice to see. It's nice for this fan base to how something to be excited about. I'm certainly excited about these two. And i hope that they give us reasons to stay excited. Once.

"Of add little stuff. I think plays a big part in it but Yeah i mean that was my favorite quote of the day from him. That's a great one. And i'm glad you brought that up because i i've actually forgotten about that But to your point that is many organizations many entities have multiple people in. It are often undone. By the fact that you have a single voice and just a bunch of people parroting it instead of dissension and you know sort of that incredibly powerful but incredibly needed back and forth the multitude of ideas that come together to create real change in a real progress so yeah fantastic. Thank you ivan gene. One of the things we heard from arthur smith because when we heard the falcons hit signed him there was some frustration at some of the initial rumors. That came out in intimated that smith might not be the play caller that you know he he would bring in the no see and turn it over to them at. He confirmed today that he would not be doing that. That arthur smith much. Like sean mcvay much like call shanahan. He would continue to be the offensive play caller on sundays. For the falcons. How important do you think that is especially. Yeah that's gonna be a lot on his plate being a first time head coach but obviously his credentials coming over are as a phenomenal play collar. How important do you think it is for him to retain that responsibility. I think that it's something that we're just gonna kinda have to see where the rubber meets the road. It is a big adjustment going from a coordinator position to a head coaching role. And has you know the defensive coordinator if that's somebody that he trusts if he has somebody who can help them with endgame decisions necessary. You know that that can sometimes be an issue when you're focused on calling plays But i think that there are ways to for a head coach to retain that responsibility and still be successful. One thing that i really did like. I'm reading up on the press conference after the fact because i was in an interview i liked that he talked about the fact that they They he said this is from wall. Mcfadden He said that they had primarily like a wide zone foundation with the titans but they also sought to be adaptable and utilize multiple different approaches on offense and so to me like that coupled with him calling the plays i think as as potentially a real strength for atlanta. Yeah and to that point and jin. I've talked about this extensively the importance of offensive line play and understand. I've had many conversations about over the years He actually played on the offensive line in college has given of experience in that area. How excited are you about the fact that our head coach now is someone who probably uniquely understands the importance of the offensive line in the successful offense. Well as you know. I'm a big fan of that whole position. A group i the offensive line is so important. You know if matt ryan has enough time to throw the ball he can make plays and so having somebody in the head coaching role. Who understands that. An going to be committed to an effective cohesive offensive line that is definitely and it's going to be an upgrade. Yeah i will say. That's the one thing that i feel like. It's overshadowed a little bit because obviously he ton of success in the two years he was offensive coordinator with titans. But i feel like it's his diverse background With the offensive line that gives him a little bit of an edge over. You know some of the other guys that were skilled positions or even quarterbacks that moved on to become offensive. Coordinator's evan any final thoughts on arthur smith your general impression of him as a head coach. Maybe what you're excited to see him do as he leads us team forward. Just a mention about the dow him calling plays..

"Refreshing overall In i know we'll talk about the second interview. After but the first one. With arthur smith i just thought he nailed it one of the big quotes in. Also if you didn't get a chance to watch it our very own kevin. I tweeted out a ton of the quotes from From the press conferences. I recommend going over his twitter account reading them. But my favorite one that stuck out for me. For arthur smith was the last thing you want is a bunch of yes men on the staff. I think a lot of times not even just on a football field but in the business world even running countries. A lot of these people who are positions of being leaders are leaders. They all surround themselves with people who have differing ideas or differing opinions on stuff. And i think that's at the end of the day. What makes a great leader in hearing him. Say that he doesn't want a bunch of people who are just gonna call. It will be like yeah. That's a good decision because you said it. Just because he said coach Love that quo that that gives me some hope going into. Because you don't wanna have you know if you're on the sidelines trying to make a decision on a fourth and three. Should you go for a bunch of guys who again. Just go for it because you want to. You gotta have some people there who you know. I don't know what kind of coordinators i know. There's been rumors and stuff by whoever's going to stand there and be in his ear you know they don't like to call or hey waste time out here just kind.

"I agree w and the one and only gene kelly gina. How are you. I am doing great david. Thanks how're you fantastic. And i'll tell you what these were. Some interesting press conferences which is saying something because morally. These things tend to be incredibly vanilla gina. I don't have to tell you that you've you've seen enough of these to know that ninety nine percent of the content is worthless yes yes and whatnot. Yeah absolutely so. I want to start with arthur smith because the the falcons started their preps conferences this morning with head coach font i think got announced around seven forty five seven thirty something like that on tuesday morning. Apparently there were still negotiating. The contract until midnight on monday the eighteenth. They finally got that worked out. Obviously arthur smith was done last week but in his presser a few things came across to me. I want to get your your thoughts on this number one. The word accountability came up. Repeatedly and gina was saying this on twitter. It when they brought in dan quinn. One of the words that they sort of used repeatedly was development they they kept talking about developing players and it felt like it was partially an indictment of what they felt like. They didn't give out the mike smith in in his tenure with atlanta and now we're hearing this word accountability and it feels like a very similar situation where the the people who are saying. It's it's sort of an indictment of what maybe they thought. They didn't get enough of out of dan. Quinn feel like that's fair in. Is that a word of a theme that you think is encouraging for what they want to do with this team going forward. Yeah i mean. I think that at the end of the day when you look at the ways that the falcons have lost games You know i go back in particular to the botched. Onside kick situation against dallas earlier at the season You know you'd hear all the same things after losses and then they would come out and still make these bone headed mistakes and so you do have to wonder if the missing link. There was accountability And i think that accountability is always a good thing and every situation and so you know and certainly something that i don't mind. The focusing on going back to the development thing with dan quinn. We all remember how mike smith would. You know draft rookies and then you know let them languish on the bench or on special teams for years and said of seeing what they could do especially on defense and so. I think that that was you know. That's that's a fair connection to draw between The focus on you know development with the end quinn and dan. Quinn really did focus on development. We saw a lot of young guys get chances and really You know sort of surprise everybody with their ability. And so but i do think that moving onto accountability is is the right move. I think that that's certainly a logical explanation for the way that we saw them lose. Close games in. Yeah i all. More accountability is something that i am all for. And at least based on the reports we heard the dan quinn was clearly loved by the players in frankly by everyone in that building with it did seem like at times. There is some of like that. Jim mora type of closeness with the players. Where you know. Maybe he wasn't holding guys accountable as much as he needed to. So that was interesting to hear from arthur smith. He you know sort of hammered. That home evan. In what you saw from the press conference from arthur smith. Was there anything that stood out to you about his style or what he talked about specifically that. Maybe you thought. Hey this is different this is. This is going to be a change from what we had under dan. Quinn yeah felt.

"We have variety of tears for all sorts of levels of interest and the show is on twitter alcoholic. Live and shutout to that twitter. I think we're like three hours away from getting two thousand followers on twitter so if anybody does the twitter you want to help me out. Hit the hit. The at alcoholic live on twitter with with those followers to get us to one thousand. That'll be great cap off of the day here for us. So thank you guys but yes. Let's see so. I think we have some some questions in here. So little rebel asks what position. Would i target in the second. Round for the falcons so to me. I think that it meets the if it is a quarterback. I'm assuming that it is it. Needs to be defensive player. In my opinion. I know i know. We talked about nausea harrison if nausea. Here's is there in the second. I think they will strongly consider taking him. I just don't think he will be so. We'll say that they take a quarterback. Then i think it needs to be an edge defender. I like the depth that edge. Better in the second round than i do at corner. I think i took jalen phillips in our latest mock but there's a lot of guys there hammock. she junior is another name. That i like I know some folks are big fans of carlos basham. He's another guy. There's there's a lot of names there as easily lori is another one so there are a variety of issues that could be available there. I think that is where they need to go in terms of player. Now if one of the cornerbacks from the first round falls i would be open to that as well and like i said if if nausea harasses there i think you consider it but personally i think it needs to be edge. So let's see Excuse me cameron howell says. Would i prefer if we were to trade down or take peninsula if available a trade down because i think the value is going to be a lot better for trade down you know teams trading in the top five to get a quarterback especially you you can throw out that trade value chart. I know i had some people. Tweeting me about my macho after like oh you got way too much in this. No no i. I did not use the chart for trades. Top five because trades into top five for quarterbacks. Do not follow the chart because you're getting a tremendous amount of value. If you get that franchise quarterback so. I actually used historical examples to construct that trade. And that's what i would recommend looking at. Not looking at the trade value chart. So i think the falcons minimum are going to be getting future first and depending on how further jumping down. I think they're going to be asking for a second and third as well. That's the starting point moving down a few spots. They maybe they get a second future. I if it's more they're probably asking for first second third and a future. I if it's like the forty niners for example they don't have a third rounder. They might be asking for a twenty twenty two seconds in addition so. I think that's that's where we are going there. That i think i would prefer all those extra picks especially on day two. That's where the the meat of this class is day. Two is really strong in this class. Much stronger in the first round in my opinion. So that's where. I would try to load up and get as many as i could instead of getting sewell. Who i think. It'd be very good but as i mentioned before i don't think that shuffling around a ton of players on your offensive line to pick work is ideal. I do think that sewell's really good. I think he could be a really good guard. I think he could also be a very good left tackle. Eventually if matthew ends up leaving a right tackle if mcgarry ends up not panning out. But i think mcgarry showed you enough that you're comfortable. Starting him and i think jake matthews is fine. And it's probably not going anywhere for awhile. He's only twenty nine. I think or twenty-eight so he's still quite young he's got a lot of good years left so you know sewell to guard at four. I don't know if i think that's great value. But it wouldn't be the worst pick wouldn't be wouldn't be worse. Pick at all. So i'd be i'd be happy with sewell to just get a really good player in the building in terms of value. I don't think it's fantastic We're not dressing trask. Don't don't talk to me about cal. Trask i've talked on the show before. And i'm trying to call people out necessarily but is not a terrific cornerback prospect. He's a good college quarterback but the difference between the college and the nfl level is big. You can't get by the nfl with a below average arm. You can't get by the nfl without being a decent athlete. And you definitely can't get the nfl with both of those things so kyle. Trask is big and tough and plays heart. I liked those aspects about him but he does not have a good arm and he's not athletic so he hasn't really offer me upside of a franchise quarterback so i just. I'm not interested. In contrast. If i'm taking him to be a backup on late did too early day three. Maybe we could talk about that. But i'd rather just gamble on players like her banker at that point and see if we can get anything. I think max jones is better than contract for the record. I mean i think mack jones has upside of like a solid. Nfl starter but again is the player. I would take to be like my franchise quarterback in a year in year out top ten guy. No i think he's kind of like a ryan fitzpatrick type of guy like someone that can win and make you competitive with the right team around him but not someone you're really wanting to take early So that's kind of where. I'm at with that so again. What i trade back into the first round for an edge rusher no. I don't think it's necessary. I think those guys will be there. The falcons all you have to wait like three picks in the second round so. I don't think it's necessary to treat up for an edge rusher. There's a lot of guys in that area. That i like so i think he just sit there and you take the best one available. Yeah carlos the real finally got our coachman now you were you were going back and forth in the comments about whether arthur smith was going to be it Yeah so you know. Good good call there. I agree that arthur with is a great hire for this team. so Mike thompson says how are the saints in bucks. Looking next season the saints are not looking good. They are minus one hundred million almost in cap space. And i think that's super drew. Brees retires because the saints have been doing a lot of crazy stuff with brees to keep his cap to keep their capping under control and that's included adding a bunch of void years to his contract and for those that don't know this is a relatively new phenomena that teams are doing. They are basically adding fake years to the deal that the team avoid when the player retires. So what that means is those fake years. All come do when they void the contract when when the year when the player retired. So they're going to oh like an additional thirty million against the cap as soon as drew brees retire so they're basically planning to just below the whole thing up is what it looks like as soon as brief goats like they're going to have to cut bait with a lot of players just to get under the cap goes down.

"I can fix that but yeah folks just just don't get locked into that mindset of so and so has to play immediately or it's not worth the pick because it's just like an corey. I love you man. You're you're not punting on the season if you take a quarterback it's not. You're not throwing in the towel now i agree. You're probably more likely to win. In two thousand twenty one with a top five defender. But who are you taking like. Who is this. Who is this offender. That's really legitimately worth that top five. Pick mike parsons sure. I think mike parsons probably worth a top five pick but he is not really feeling a huge need for you. You have three great linebackers. Under contract. Next year with dion jones foia saudi and michael walker like that's arguably one of the positions need at least on defense. He can help you out as a pass rusher to some extent. But it's it's not like you're getting tremendous value there Maybe you think patrick kane. Farley's worth that pick. I wouldn't argue with you there. I think if they can't trade and they have to pick someone. I think that you know certain is probably the best choice. Because i don't think there's any pass rusher worth that pick. I liked gregory so but he didn't play this year and he has one season of good production to his name. So at that point. I just don't think that he's worth it. So you either trade down or you draft a quarterback and if you're forced to take defensive player i would take ser tan but you know that it's not necessarily an ideal situation all right. George going to argue with me. It's okay for giving me money argue with you all day. Because i know georgia's respectful and he's he's coming. He's coming from a place of respect. I respect you george. So we'll talk about this. So george says hell no do not take a quarterback to sit him. It's a waste of a top five pick. i am on the kyle pits train. He's uncomfortable in the current nfl. I'm on the harris train. Also hope he's there in the second devante or chase would be fine also in the i. I love pit. So yes i know. You're super into these guys at the top george. I like how pets a lot. I think his edition would get the falcons. You know a really dangerous to head tight end attack at the same time. He's not worth fourth overall I don't really think any offensive player is in this classic set maybe sewell. And even that's not really a need for this team. Because you're forcing one of your tackles into guard. Jake matthews shouldn't be playing guard Caleb gary probably can't play guard he's six seven that's going to be really difficult for him in terms of leverage like i don't know any guards bat height so that's really difficult for him so it's not going to be. Maybe you play soon guard if you think he's going to be a great art. Maybe that's what you're saying but a guard in the top five unless you're getting clinton nelson. They're probably not worth it either. So it's not a waste. Because of what i mentioned right. You aren't drafting that quarterback for twenty one drafting him for twenty twenty two twenty twenty six or whatever. The number of years is like if you get three years of rookie contract out of a franchise level core back then goes on to start for you for another ten years after that. You can't convince me you can't convince me. That's not worth the fourth overall pick and maybe it doesn't help them win and twenty twenty one necessarily but we want a coaching staff to come here to plan for the long haul with this team right. We don't want this team focused on just winning in twenty twenty one. We don't know competitive. They're going to be. What if injuries strike you know. What if they lose two players to offense of line starters in the first two weeks. The offensive line's of disaster. Matt ryan getting killed and they're just really struggling out there on the offensive line and it's just not working out like you could have twenty. Eighteen happened right where everything looks like. It's gonna go great and it doesn't because this is the nfl should happen so you don't build just for next year that's how you end up kind of in the situation. We are now right with terrible cap situation. Thirty one players under contract at least they have some good draft picks. So we have that. But it's a long term game. And we i guarantee you. They hired terry fonteneau because he had a long term vision for this team. That wasn't just about winning. And twenty twenty one. So that's that's where i'm at with that. I respect you. George for for wanting to win now i think like i said i think that's a fine strategy. I just don't agree with taking those offensive players and the top five now if you could trade down into the teens than we can have more of a conversation about that where i feel like the value might be worth it. Still don't think the values worth for harris there. That's just my opinion. You guys can disagree. That's fine but drew march as devante. Smith maybe pits. Yes but i still. The team will be better off taking a defensive player there. Cabled farley's still their allies tucker at on the offensive line. Maybe why davis. He struggled a little bit recently. But you know. These are some guys that i would consider. Ronnie sue says is fonteneau confirmed or no way to know until new orleans season is over. It's basically confirmed i. I mean we don't officially have an announcement. We didn't have officially have an answer. For arthur smith until now anyway and i was trying to tell people that it's basically confirmed fonteneau. I guess has made it clear to people in the media that he will not formally accept a position until the saints are done out of respect for the saints organization but he's coming to atlanta So don't don't worry about fonts. No he's coming here. He was told but he. I'm sure there's an agreement in place at least in principle for him to come in. And be the falcons jerem. So there's not really going to be any drama there so don't worry about that antica all take a few more questions guys while. I'm here go for a few minutes longer if anybody has to throw that in a chat if you've got a donation questions you want to get in and get those in nassau. Have time to get to them. But yet while. "Oc takes a head coaching job. You always immediately look at. Who is assistance. Were at his at his previous stop. In those guys are rob moore was the wide receivers coach at tendency. You did a great job with. Aj brown and with corey davis spouse year. Pat o'hara was quarterbacks coach of the titans from twenty eighteen through twenty twenty. He did a great job in helping. Turn ryan tannehill other Other guys who. Arthur smith awesome experience with who are on the coaching. Stop with him. During his days in tennessee. You have a guy like who's a former head coach of the tennessee. Titans and head coach of the arizona cardinals He's been on offense coordinator or a head coach between twenty two thousand four and twenty nineteen like he has a wealth of experience You know he was the offensive coordinator of the chargers in two stints. Then you have. Maybe a guy like even terry robiskie. Who is a former balconies wide receivers coach for seven years. Here are under the mike smith and early part of the dan. Quinn regime was the titans. Oh cnn Niece extent twenty seventeen was jobs running backs coach this past season and we saw what a great job he did with drawing a blank with the jags running back who is rb one invincible ball. This past year helped me out your kevin. Oh god or helped me out your guys in the chat. Yeah i need carry. I didn't even hear the question. Because i was getting a live news. Update from dave but somebody who fantasy football so. I just assumed that it's a running game. That's it yes james robinson. Yes he did. A great job. With robinson i would not prefer terrier biscuit i But you know he's. I'm just floating names. That arthur smith is familiar with back from his tennessee. Days these past few years like don't don't say that i want a robiskie as our oc. I don't you know along with mike much as well. Those are just possibilities. Those are some names to look out for. Yeah yeah so. We do have an update on potential. Oc we don't know that it's for sure offensive coordinator but it will be a senior offensive staff member. It will be dave oregon Some mentioned earlier on in the chat. Adam kaplan is reporting that dave who was the bears passing game coordinator smith is a higher him either to be offensive coordinator or passing game coordinator. Apparently that's not only that ra goan is going to join the falcons stacks so i don't know much about regarding other than the fact that this is being reported but that he is going to be a senior staff. Member kaplan did know that arthur smith is planning to call the plays himself on offense. I know there were some reports out there from tennessee. Folks that may be. Smith was considering. What sony also call the plays during the game but it seems like kaplan is reporting that smith is planning to call the plays which is not surprising so we also have ten dollar donation from dion. Denardo brother for your support. We appreciate you says great. Show guys thanks for all you do. Let's bring back wade phillips for dc. Who do we land as defensive. I'm definitely here for your or wade. Phillips wade phillips gods. Such bad deal in los angeles scapegoated out of los angeles by sean mcvay. The same way that Dan quinn scapegoated. His boat is coordinator a couple of years ago. That rams defense and twenty nineteen was statistically better than the ramsey vincent two thousand eighteen. Remember how much we were. Praising gulf phillips twenty eighteen like the defense wasn't statistically like amazing in two thousand eighteen. They did what they had to in twenty nine nineteen. It was better in regard to yards per game allowed in a scoring defense. But the reason for the rams leica regression in two thousand nineteen was because they had a lot of offense. Flying injuries not often That offense is a whole regrets in wade. Phillips was just He had to fall on the sword for all of that ended up retiring for a year. He said that he's he wants to come back. He wants to coach again. I'd be four. Wait wait phillips was the defensive coordinator twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen. When the broncos were the number one total defense in the league in scoring defense you guys can like say that that in the last five years. They presided over a number one. Total defense wade phillips can say he's done it twice like i'm fully in also the other thing that interests me with wade phillips is he has experienced being the head coach of a defense. So we don't need someone who's just like a defensive coordinator with you know a defensive head coach in the defensive coordinator. They work in conjunction. They work side by side. Now wait phillips like he ran the show without rams defense. Because sean mcvay wasn't touching the defense so this in the same situation with With arthur smith he needs. He needs a veteran experienced defensive coordinator where he can say. Here you go you. Can you take care of the defense fully. This is your show. I'm gonna be over here working on the offense and you know. Wait phillips is guy. He's someone who has had coaching experience in the past. You know someone who's familiar with the atlanta falcons. He was here as interim coach three zero two. Oh three another guy. Another name who. I'm interested in if he were to come out of. Retirement is dean pees who retired a couple times. Arthur smith knows him from his days in tennessee. Ps was actually tennessee's defensive coordinator not this season but last season before retiring for a second time. Apparently there's some reports that He may be coaxed. Out of coming out of retirement may be arthur. Smith can put in a call and say you can run my defense completely. This'll be completely your show. Because that wasn't the case in tennessee. Microwave had and in the defense let me give you some stats for the titans like Twenty nineteen they went from being the twelfth scoring defense under ps two. After he retired they were the twenty four th scoring defense this past year. We're not going this year. They were terrible this year. I mean it wasn't there wasn't much change in personnel. I'm they they brought in they runnin. Clowney as like a big-name signing take their defense over the top. So it shows that he had. He had a lot to do with their defensive. Success someone. Who's won a couple of super bowls without defense i'm looking. We need a veteran defensive coordinator. Who's been around. Who knows who who commands the respect of the defensive guys as a defensive head coach like i know i know that age is an issue. Both of these guys are in their seventies but we need. We need someone like this. Because arthur smith is such a young guy in you. Want someone with that wealth of experience to help guide him through being a head coach. Wade phillips did with sean mcvay. These guys invaluable guys who arthur smith can go to ask for advice if you know How did you handle it In your experience what happened like here. like how. Should i handle this situation because being a head coach it's it's not just while calling the play successfully..

"City chiefs end of list. They were the number two. Total offense in the entire. Nfl and this was arthur. Smith's show like mike vrabel had nothing to do with this offense. Arthur smith the past. Two years has been the head coach of the tennessee. Titans offense and this titans. Offense is a unit that has carried this entire franchise the past two years. The offense carry them to the playoffs. This has been an offense first team even with the defensive minded head coach. They made it today of c. Title game on the back of the offense this past year. The offense carry them to the playoffs. Ryan tannehill went from an absolute bust in miami to a backup quarterback in tennessee and when he took over arthur smith helped turn him until one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the entire nfl yet a pass rate of one. Seventeen point five last year. That's on par with matt ryan operating in his twenty sixteen. Mvp season of course the volume wasn't completely their tannehill. Also led the league in yards per attempt with nine point six which is absolutely insane. I'm not saying that. Ryan tannehill is an mvp type player. I'm just saying that Arthur smith helped unlock ryan tannehill into being one of the most efficient in the nfl. Tannehill once again one oh. Six point bypass rating top. Nfl accounted for forty one touchdowns this year like ryan tannehill accounted for forty touchdowns this season. That was mostly arthur smith. I mean no disrespect to daniel either. But you know the scheme had a lot to do with that. And i know the counter-argument of oh it's it was all derrick henry like derrick. Henry is the one who who did everything. No the counter argument. Derrick henry in two thousand eighteen was still the feature back in tennessee. Us the number one running back his stats in the two thousand eighteen season. He had thousand fifty nine. Total rushing yards when arthur smith took over that offense. Derrick henry led the league with fifteen hundred forty rushing yards last year. And then this past season he had two thousand and twenty seven rushing yards leading the league in rushing touchdowns both seasons in yards per game while both seasons. So derrick henry is another guy like he wasn't thought of as a superstar running back before arthur smith came in and took over our there. Smith unlocked the potential of his star players. And that's that's all you can ask for from an offensive coordinator within a scheme. I can't wait to see what he does with matt ryan with the play action heavy scheme because matt ryan thrives with the play auction. Yeah i love it. I love the fit. I i love everything about it. I mean i think we talked about on wednesday like we. Were getting a little hyped about joe brady just because he is such a new coach in such a hot name that it was. It was exciting. I think we would have been happy with that higher as well. But it undoubtedly arthur smith has more experience and is the more seasoned option here so i do think that at the end of the day. This is a better overall higher. Oh man guys dave me we got dave meet folks hold on. Is that the man himself. Dave chote maybe maybe not all right anyway as i was saying i do love the higher of arthur smith. There's dave he's been saved about what it takes to get dave on the show the falcon coat or firing for any other reason. Yes yes but yeah well. This is a good opportunity to dave. Get his take in here about the hiring of arthur smith. Dave what are your thoughts. Yeah i think you know. It's one of those hires. It's kind of the same way. I felt about mike smith where i like the higher. I like the reason. They made the.

"And i don't think he gets enough credit for that but just a really exciting system if you were bored to tears by dirk cutters offense and vanilla. You're going to love arthur smith because he loves to throw out creative play designs. Play action is his bread and butter. Like he's gonna run play action and absurdly high amount of time. He's the anti dirk cutter. He's he's great in the red zone. And i think like i tweeted about it earlier. That if you were to just not change anything. So the falcons have the same number of red zone trips and only improved the and just improve the red zone efficiency to what the titans had this year. They would have scored around sixty more points than they scored this year. That would have put them in the top ten in terms of scoring offenses and probably would have netted them at least four to five more wins considering they were. Oh and seven games. Decided by six points or less thirteen touchdowns is what that would have changed so just a very good offense coordinator in a very hot name. And i thinking the way that this played out. Also with terry fonteneau. We'll talk about him. Later in the show is i think the falcons were much more desirable landing spot than some in the media. Were leading on. Because if you look at some of the the way this played out with brad homes who was there other finalists homes did not announce he was going to the lions until the falcons announced that it leaks that terri fontana was their choice. Which leads me to believe that. Holmes was waiting to hear from the falcons before he agreed. Go to detroit. And arthur smith cancelled his interview with detroit. After the falcons made their offer. So i think that maybe we were right about how desirable the falcons were and maybe some of the talking heads were wrong. What what's your take on that court you know. I feel like the hiring process how it's reported in how it actually plays out. Obviously it's gonna be very different. You know it's kind of like the hamilton line. You gotta be in the room where it happens like that you really do have to like understand what goes on behind the scenes to be behind the scenes to understand fully goes on behind the scenes and you know there was such a ringer. Oh made about rich. Mckay's role in this process and a lot of articles came out listing atlanta as a not desirable location. Which i always thought was kind of ridiculous but you know i think a lot of this is just a symptom of the fact that people have kind of forgotten. The falcons do well because we've done consistently well a long time. So i i feel like that you know to come away with probably. I feel like the hottest coaching candidate because he got interview access with all six teams. It seemed like and then a personnel guy that has been widely bandied about as being one of the fast rising names in the nfl heard about font. Low a while back. It seem so it just feels like for all of the hubbub that had been going on that there is just such a relief to know that we still are one of the better organizations nfl. I think people don't forget that. Are there of very good owner. I think that rich mckay for all of the mystery around what he does is a very respected name in the league. I mean people. Respect rich. Mckay and i think that at the end of the day we follow this process. Very religiously follow every piece of news. A week ago. I was like sold on the i did. Joe brady was going to be our next coach but right you never not you know. So i think the end of the day Denies example that the team knows what it's doing. Yeah that's very very true. welcome in evan burchfield. He's app bergeford on twitter and odd non rich at say which way joining the conversation. Now guys we've been opening the conversation about this. But i wanna get your takes in here as well so evan. You beat on non by about ten seconds. So y'all get the next shot here. So what are your thoughts. On the hiring of. Arthur smith for the falcons at this point. I'm excited i think it's a great hire and we finally have an offensive minded head coach. So we don't have to worry about losing him every year if he does well I've said it before. But i just find the comparison between the current. Titans and falcons offense Very similar when you look assigned from running back. Obviously there's no derrick henry on our team but that's something you know the team will probably address the offseason But i'm really excited Speculated this you know the season aqui was kind of my favorite going into being corey. Talked a bunch of about The potential head coaches and stuff like that in there at the end. I was really excited between him and joe brady. I thought no matter. What the falcons were going to get. you know. Good offense minded head coach. Which is honestly all i cared about from the beginning In i'm really i'm really excited. I i wanna look like what the moves are going to be headed forward I don't know much about five. Not but i'm excited to see kinda what he brings to the table. It'll be nice not to be afraid of the nfl draft in thinking. Oh well they're just gonna stay put. They won't trae down. I think that With arthur smith being there the possibility of them actually trading down kinda makes sense or not. Taking a quarterback makes sense because he got the most out of ryan tannehill. So imagine what. He's gonna do with matt ryan. In julio jones in calvin ridley on the field Just excited In we got offseason Speculation who knows what kind of offense coordinator he's gonna bring in or defensive coordinator so yeah. I'm excited yeah. Yeah me too. It's exciting stuff very exciting stuff. Odd non now your turn to tell us your thoughts on all sides. Oh so yeah. I know you're going to go off on some kind of tangent. About how matt ryan trade for ryan. Tannehill switch ryan's here. Yeah i do see the tips guys got. We got a lot of tips coming in. We're going to get to those. I just wanted to give our guests. I chance to comment on it. And then i will read off your tips and start with the questions guy so yeah. Go ahead We were mentioning. Smith's name for two seasons on the alchoholic live the past two years in it started two years ago when the team was in an absolute free fall we mentioned. Arthur smith is a possibility. Arthur smith was one of the three often coordinators. I was really keeping a close eye on this past season as a potential replacement for dank. When even before dan quinn was fired and arthur smith was among those three along with eric beyond me and way dob our way doble bryan. Dabo confused with wade phillips. Another name will will probably will probably get to later on and in future shows but yeah. It's extremely excited. You guys wanna know Which teams had more yards per game than the tennessee. Titans this.

"Thank you guys very much. We hope you enjoyed this episode fellow alcohol. Ix what is up. Welcome to the falcon hollick live and we are here to break. Down the falcons. Hiring of arthur smith as the new head coach exciting stuff. I've been sitting here literally all day waiting for this so we can get this out to you guys as soon as possible so we are here. We're excited i'm joined by corey. Woodruff of the alchoholic and also of movie critic fame corey. How are you doing today. I'm very happy for the first time in three years. I am happy about something. The atlanta falcons did yeah. It's a weird feeling. Yeah yeah this is the this is probably the happiest. I've been for the falcons since they'd be the rams in the playoffs but yes three years ago so it's been a minute now it's been it's been a whole thing So i'm very happy As well i mean. This was a guy that i was a big fan of. I think you're a big fan of as well. I think everyone was pretty universally. Like in arthur smith to varying degrees throughout the process. But it's cool that he's here now in its official and we've got all kinds of good stuff to talk about with regards to this higher. So yeah we're going to get right into it. Guys few have specific questions about the higher. Just let us know. We'll try to get to as many as we came. We're going to have more people popping in. Obviously you know this is kind of spur of the moment. You guys are driving home from work and are getting off of other stuff so we will try to get folks in as they arrived. But you're just going to have to be satisfied with the dulcet tones of myself. Kevin night affect call kevin and cory woodruff core would forty seven so Yeah corey i mean was arthur smith kind of your guy all along or is little. It's interesting like i'm from nashville. So i am surrounded by titans and ri- father in law is a big titans fan and So i've grown around. I was. I was a kids so the titans of ben like part of my sports ecosystem where i live. So i'm being a falcons fan. The naturals always been a very strange outline. How there aren't many of us. But they're they're bram but you know watching the out. The watching the falcons. The last few years has been pretty boring and not always very fun and sometimes you know you would want something else to do with your saturday afternoon. Digitally when things are going in the right direction. And i would watch the titans. And i'd watch them. You know pretty infrequently whether i'd be visiting with family or friends so like ed seen a decent amount of what arthur smith done in atlanta. I mean made in tennessee and if he does that in atlanta i cannot stress. How enjoyable or sunday's are about to be What i love about the higher so much in in report noted that they got their guy that this was the top candidate all along. They ended up getting who they wanted to get. Just exciting for a lot of reasons but yeah he just runs like the type of offense. It's gonna work so well what we have on. I don't prescribe to the narrative. At all that the falcons devoid of talent on offense. I think they have quite a lot. I just think that when teams lose relevance and they're hidden behind bad scheme it makes people forget what they do who they have. Because they're not really doing anything worth noting. And i think what arthur smith is going to do is like a year from now the. Nfl's going to talk about cabin. Ridley like one of the best young receivers in the nfl like everyone should be. They're going to talk about chris. Lindstrom as one of the next greg guards. We're gonna re shift the focus to talk about how good jack mathews has people are going to be talking about. Matt ryan pretty sure. That's who committed quarterback next year. Barring a big surprise. I think this puts us back in relevancy because you finally have an offense of coach. Who's going to know how to use this roster properly and who is not going to call a date scheme and i can't say that watching arthur smith reminds me of cal shanahan one hundred percent but it reminds me of watching the falcons score a lot of points in any sort of way i mean it. Just like looking at the way tannehill. It looks like matt ryan utilize a lot of play action. They really have a good strong fortified. Run game this year. They averaged a forty points a game. It felt like at a certain point. And they were running without taylor lewan in the starting lineup. Their starting left tackle. And if you can have an offensive coach who loses a top three player on their offense in his able to mask that with. Tom brady low in. David westin berry. I don't know how you can't look at that and go. That's a feet of coaching And i just. I think this is probably you know. I feel the same way. I do when they hired dan. Quinn i think they got probably the premier coaching target or one of the premier coaching targets. The cycle and it's just hard to be anything but excited. Yeah i know. People are panicking because it took a while for this announcement to come out but like you guys shouldn't have been panicking. We tried to tell you but It's these sorts of things happen. Teams like the falcons wanted to announce it themselves. They wanted to set up this whole thing. And all this stuff and i tried to tell you to relax. Everything's fine when a guy cancels an interview. He's not he's not weighing his options. I guess i'll try say like he's canceling outstanding interviews. He's made his decision. So this delay today from when the offer was made to when it was accepted formerly now it was probably accepted this morning when it was offered to be honest with you but So just relax a little bit. Everyone can can celebrate now but this is the way it goes in the nfl. These days that teams want to announce it. Or if there's going to be delays or whatever so yeah i mean i agree with basically what you're saying i mean. I think this was a very impressive job. By arthur smith over the past two seasons in tennessee. I really think that he got a lot more out of that. Offense than most would have and the most impressive thing to me about. Tennessee's offense. is that red zone efficiency. Which is what the falcons have struggled with under cutter. And to some extent under steve sarkisian. He did improve a lot in two thousand eighteen..

"Yeah it it's interesting. You mentioned the name joe brady. I actually wrote earlier this week about the fact that the falcons that make a bold move in those were the two names actually brought up article other. I think there are others that we listed as well. Dave we had heard rumblings that brady early on Looks like a a very strong candidate. I think especially with the link to no Through jonathan jones is also expected to be the falcons next general manager of the two between brady and arthur smith. You feel like smith is the safer but maybe the better of the two hires right. Now i do you know. It's no big secret that i wanted eric. Bana me to be the next head. Coach of the atlanta falcons obviously the last week or so has been sobering realized. That wasn't going to happen. But i definitely prefer smith to joe brady. I think the whole thing with joe brady that you would be asking yourself is a guy who has you know. Been an offensive assistant with the saints for two years. A guy who coordinated. Lsu's pass passing game for one year and then was an offense coordinator for carolina for one year. Is that guy ready to take over and run an nfl team. I mean the questions are fair for any candidate who hasn't done it. Before their for smith who only has those two years of coordinating experience but with brady felt like that was especially urging question because he has so little experience. He's so young he doesn't have those. Nfl connections built up. Even somebody like smith having been there through. What four head coaches in tennessee will have to draw for his staff so for me like brady was been swing for the fence type of guy but there's only so many you know sean mcvay as out there and i'm not sure at this point if he's that guy or not so looking at what smith did with that titans offense looking at the fact that he's he's got those connections a little bit more Is a little bit more established and that you know clearly. The new gm wanted him And that's why he's here. You know all of those are important. Factors to make whether he's gonna work out better than the last smith. Who is here considering that mike was really good coach. I don't know. But i think brady would have been the wrong. The wrong higher for this team. I think you are trying to navigate through tough patch in terms of the cap in terms of aging stars. You've got and well. That would have been a swing for the fences. I'm not sure it would have worked out the way people wanted it to. So you know failing getting my preferred candidate. I think smith a strong higher. You know people that we we know and trust and like are talking them up and we just have to hope they're correct in on that point. We know that he was considered a strong candidate by the lions the jets and the eagles as well as he was interviewing all those teams this week this morning. It was indicated that he turned down the second interview with the lions. After word broke that he was given an offer by the falcons looked like he got what he wanted. Out of atlanta. Odd non mike connors. He tweeted out just a few minutes ago at age thirty. Eight arthur smith is young as head. Coach atlanta falcons history any concerns about his age. We talk a little bit about his experience. Any concerns about the falcons hiring a coach. That is this young. While i i just wanted to say it's it's impossible that he was Coveted by so many teams. Because i was led to believe that the falcons were the worst head coach. Gmo coming into this off i don't know what that was all about. But you know here we are. I'm saying that the Don't believe all the national media reports that you read but Neither don't think that there's much of a concern. Just because he has the experience he's led a very very successful offense. These past two years the tennessee titans made it to the afc championship game in twenty. Nineteen on the back of the offense. On this past year arthur smith coordinated a top five overall offense. They were number three in total offense number four and scoring offense and mike variable is a good head coach. Mike ribble had nothing to do with this offense. This offense was arthur smith. Show mike vrabel as the defensive guy. He's a defensive minded head coach Whereas with joe brady. I would've had more concerns. Everyone makes the sean mcvay comparison. Because you know. They're both in their early thirties. Remember sean mcvay was in offense coordinator in washington for three seasons before he got opportunity to be other rams coach so i am happy that we went with a nice young head. Coach a young guy who isn't a retread You know we. We've had some issues with the retreads in the past. Dirk koetter namely The past couple of seasons to answer your question. I'm not concerned at all. Just because arthur smith has proven himself at the nfl level as a high level offense coordinator. Not just someone who is often coordinator but he was the head coach of that offense tennessee these past two years. There is a difference and the difference comes between like your offense of minded head coach for example If it wasn't offensive minded head coach like in kansas city. Eric beyond me was offense coordinator but andy. Reid had a lot to do with that offense whereas here like that offense. Like i said was is arthur. Smith's show so. I think he's proven himself. I think he deserves this opportunity He has worked toward it. I congratulate him. And this was the logical next. Step martha smith and i'm very happy. Got this opportunity to be a head coach. Yeah absolutely. I think i'm with you guys In that said you know. Dave i think. Put the appropriate context around this. We need to learn more about what the plans are. We need to see what the surrounding coaching staff is going to look like. Certainly the big question now is who the bring in as defensive coordinator Because obviously he is going to put his hands on offense but who is going to call the other side of the ball and that's going to obviously have a very big impact So a lot of questions still remain. Obviously we're still waiting for the signing of a new gm. Jerry fontenot from new orleans saints become official when it does become official will revisit that here on the podcast and of course at the Dot com one. Last thing on the bring up. Because i think this is for those who don't know much about what Arthur smith has done for the past two years diana rossini this morning Tweeted out and we included this article. today is the news broke In the past twenty seasons for offensive. Coordinator's smith's have ranked first in red zone efficiency. Second in yards per play in fourth in scoring. that's over the last twenty seasons that includes guys like be enemy with patrick mahomes adam gates who had peyton manning and drew brees with pete carmichael in in new orleans so know for those who are questioning. Whether arthur smith ran a truly ran. A offense in tennessee. I think there's zero doubt that he did now. The question will be. Can he duplicate that you know. What will the falcons with running game. The lack of a premiere running back without the a factor Tons of questions. Of course we're going to break it down in lies. Extensively at the falcons dot com over the coming weeks But would falcons do have a new head coach. Arthur smith former offense coordinator for the tennessee. Titans has been hired confirmed by the team Guys pay attention to the alcohol dot com. We're going to break this down. A lot as the falcons have give us plenty to talk about now in another offseason suit none till our listeners. Find you what you have gone off. You can find me on twitter at say which way and i'm doing some I'm continuing the offensive. Line reviews for the falcons on on the website. Excellent evan you can find me on twitter at edinburgh field in much everything on.

"Today. The atlanta falcons have a new gm and a new head coach here to talk about this into a quick analysis of the two guys coming into the organization. I've got to the writers from the alcoholic. i got month thanks for being here. of course. Happy to beer and evan burchfield. thanks for joining. Thanks for having me so The higher of course the big name that fans are thankful is finally hit. Is arthur smith the offensive coordinator from tennessee. Titans for the past two years. He's been with tennessee. Actually for quite a while and has been in multiple roles with that organization but has been the offensive coordinator of that top ranked past two years. The one with derrick henry so i just real quick i want to get your guys thoughts odd none. I'll start with you whether your thoughts on. Arthur smith is new head coach. Love it Going into this season throughout the entire Nfl season there. Were three guys who. I had a specific i out of four as potential coach. Three offensive coordinators. Those guys were arab. The enemy brian doble and arthur smith. I'm thrilled that. We managed to secure one of their services. Apparently arthur smith was absolutely killing in those interviews. this go around You know he's fantastic. Just have to look no further than what he did with ryan tannehill to show his credentials as you know all offensive genius more or less tannehill in twenty nineteen led the entire nfl and passer rating. You led the league in yards per attempt in twenty twenty the accounted for forty one total touchdowns who was top five in passer rating. And this is someone who was considered a big time bust with the miami. Dolphins came to tennessee revived his entire career. I cannot wait to see what he does with the former. Mvp matt ryan. Who still playing some really good football in a great play action heavy scheme. You know he's someone who is one of the best red zone playcallers the nfl. No that's not just derrick henry. The titans were top two in red zone efficiency. There were number one last year number two this year in total red zone efficiency. The falcons were bottom ten both seasons Cutter and going back before. Arthur smith in twenty eighteen Wild derrick henry was still the number one running back in tennessee. They were twenty-third. Before arthur smith. Red zone efficiency so no. Don't give me this. Bs that all the only reason they were good in the red zone is because derrick henry was just breaking eleven tackles single trip. Yeah we heard a lot of that talk on twitter. I put out a tweet this morning. After some of the initial news came out that it looked like the falcons were gonna move forward with arthur smith. Here's the reality with with derrick henry in the three years before arthur smith Took over two thousand sixteen through two thousand eighteen. Henry averaged forty nine yards per game. He averaged four point five yards per carry and the most yards this season which was his third league Was one thousand fifty nine in his two years. Under arthur smith. He averaged one hundred. Fourteen point seven yards per game. Five point two five yards per carry and he had his two thousand yard rushing season. This year i feel like people forget. Derrick henry really was his most impressive. Self under arthur smith. As you mentioned obviously ryan tannehill was a big part of that. We do have someone else on the podcast. Dave hoping it's you or else someone has invaded our podcast here at the last second dave yes. He is here Dave show with your thoughts on the new head. Coach for the falcons. Yeah he wasn't My first choice but it surprising to me in a way but not surprising. Also because you know we've all been falcons fans for a long time The reception is so chilly from some so many people. I think my biggest concern is one of the reports that we saw that he might not be calling plays in atlanta. I think that's one of his chief strengths. And what he did so well for the titans. But if you look at why. The falcons are making this higher. This is a guy who his offenses are. Brilliant in the red zone their well-balanced he clearly knows how to tailor. His offense to the strengths of this personnel. You know he did a great job. Getting ryan tannehill from being. You know a pretty decent quarterback in miami but a frustrating one into a really efficient one with tennessee. So i you know. I wouldn't wanna see him the keys to anybody necessarily unless he's got a really strong candidate in mind there but i think if you look at his track record even though it's only a couple of years long it's it's very encouraging in terms of the type of offense that he's able to run and how he's able to detailer so i'm excited about it from that perspective. I think there are so many questions that we just can't answer right now about. Who's going to hire to run the defense. What is his staff gonna look like. What kind of personnel is he going to be handed to work with. Knowing that the falcons definitely need a new feature back that they probably need some help on the interior of the offensive line. So with all that in mind you know the hot takes right off the bat the necessary we all gotta give him. But i definitely am gonna wait a little bit To see if you know it's more than just the the positive initial reaction to what he can and should be able to do. On offense with the falcons but certainly that's something to be excited about. I think after a couple years cutter were already for something new. Two years of dirk cutter will prepare you for things. It seems Evan what are your thoughts. On arthur smith frontal beginning. He was always the one i was really hoping for. I think when if you're looking for win now.

"Cody. Thanks for coming back on. I in the enemy man. How are you. I'm doing great great to be with you. I'm excited to talk some football absolutely and let's jump right in to the eagles. Coaching search here. Because more names get added to this list everyday to say that the eagles have cast a wide net would be understating it a little bit. You tweeted out. And i think it was either yesterday or today but as a recording. This on the fourteenth is was on the thirteenth. You tweeted out a whole list of names. We've got carolina offensive coordinator. Joe brady tennis offensive coordinator arthur smith san francisco defensive coordinator robert soleil tampa bay defensive coordinator. Todd bowles new england linebackers coach. John mayo kansas city quarterbacks coach mike kafka philadelphia assistant head coach do staley oklahoma head coach lincoln riley ohio state head coach ryan day. Cincinnati head. Coach luke fickle and more are coming each and every day and i know among eagles fans. You know we see this as a pretty dysfunctional team right now. We see this as an organization. That doesn't seem to know exactly what they're doing and we're skeptical as to whether or not a a really high profile coach is going to want to come here given the list of names here. Where are you at on this eagles. Coaching search as there really are just getting started right. Now yeah and we saw it just kellen more added today and obviously you know they're going to continue to cast the net and i think just in general. I think there's a little merit to the idea that you know when you compare openings. The eagles aren't A bursting with attraction just because of the situation. I mean Doug peterson clearly. If the reports are to be believed is is kind of worn down from from this run with eagles. And but i honestly don't put too much stock into this idea that they're undesirable because at the end of the day there's thirty two jobs. There's thirty two head. Coaching jobs in the nfl. We see guys in view with with teams like the jets and the jaguars every coaching cycle. Yes they sometimes have high picks so they sometimes have a lot of cap space but at the end of the day. It's nfl fell head coaching job. You can't tell me you know if you're joe brady and you're getting interest from all these teams. I mean you're not going to just not going to turn down the opportunity and so And eventually some of the spots are gonna get filled For me i mean i. I start for the eagles with looking at the offensive side of the ball. I know that's it's a big talking point. Jeffrey lurie with with you know really any eagles fan. That's been under or watching. Jeffey larry hires run. The team I i think really it comes down to are you going for You're gonna have to sacrifice somewhere. Because with somebody like joe brady even kellen moore. You're really banking on them. Being kind of an offensive mastermind and up and coming mastermind as opposed to this Person who's been around the league for years and respected and you know doug peterson even though he didn't have head coaching experience. Jeffrey loria himself talked about that emotional intelligence he talked about. Doug peterson former quarterback. In this league he had time under andy reid and so i. I think it's just a matter of where are they gonna sacrifice. Because if they go with robert. Sal the forty niners you're sacrificing. You might bring in a nice offensive coordinator with them but he may leave here for another head coaching job. And so what do they want. We're gonna find out.

Rested Bills melt down with mistakes in 42-16 loss to Titans

"Did you see this common? Did you see the titans rolling up a forty? Burger. On the bills who look they look like the team that had a cove nineteen nightmare with layoffs and close facilities and long stretches without play not the titans. I. Didn't see it coming. I mean I think that if you're someone that just observers football. How much do we know whether or not practice time? Is. A key indicator of success I? Mean I'm saying you never practiced but I think the bills having to split attention I'm talking like deep staff members, players studying tape between the titans and chiefs might have been a bigger factor. But when the game started tonight I mean this game to me is about mistakes by Josh Allen that we haven't really seen up to this point. They came home to roost tonight. The first interception was not on him. That was a deflected ball the second one though was and Ryan Tannehill? Kind of another notch in the belt of Sane for all of us on I'm included in that the question whether the off season and into this season would have been a path that showed us that Ryan Tannehill. Last year was an aberration from the rest of his career. He's not going to reach those typical heights, but he really fits in this offense. He is a tough minded quarterback and we see it with this runs. Tonight we see with him blasting for a first down that it didn't seal the game further sealed the game late late on his pinpoint passes play action attack under Arthur Smith you probably. Generated About Fifteen head coaching interviews during this game because it was on national TV because for some reason, Arthur Smith is still a little under the radar and I think it's about. The Smith the Arthur Smith. I mean you'll see that the future of offense I know it feels like. Like a paint company I get that it's not it's not something that sticks out but the bills defense. Week I. Think we came into the year thinking the titans defense might be the part of that team that kind of lax identity. Well, tonight, they really they put forward a great performance and caused havoc for the bills were the bills defense up the Middle Johnny Smith other guys just being victimized. I'd be real concerned about Buffalo's defense because teams are going to look at this and say, we're going to attack them this way.
