"Is tired of it that he wants to steal to find a way to work things out with not only Tonio Brown, but also for lady on bell. He compared to the Kardashians with this. When he told the NFL network's Ian Rapoport in my dream world. I would love to have both of these guys stay we'd win the Super Bowl with the guys that we have the guys we keep obviously, it's tough situation like that where you can't control it art Rooney Mike Tomlin with that situation. But for me, it's more. So like, let's keep the guys on the team and win the Super Bowl. Let's stop all the BS. We sound like a bunch of car dashing ends in quote at the my favorite Marty. Is Bob from div? Sixth-graders when they know better. And that's why juju Smith Schuster was voted MVP. He's not a diva I I'll give you a prime example going back to college right, Colorado USC, I'm part of the call at the Coliseum and it's close game to top twenty five teams is this three years ago and juju Smith Schuster all of a sudden Sam Donnelly hits him over in the right boundary all by himself. Most guys walk into the end zone. Right. And then you have to kick it, you know, and is about ninety seconds to go. And all of a sudden you get quick score. Onside kick, you never know. What's going to happen? No, MR did. Took a knee on the nine. Could have been all about stats point game. Took a knee on the nine ended the game. Colorado's out of timeouts instead of going for the stat knowing he's going to the NFL right patting his numbers with with another touchdown. No. He goes to a knee on right there inside the ten on the night. Maybe maybe this can do themselves a favor by paying attention to a guy like that. I'm not just talking about the coach in the organization Antonio Brown. I bet did you know, what is well pay attention to that guy. And you hate to stereotype. But what do you think Antonio Brown doesn't situation? Oh, he's starting in the end zone and doing your show, but this is a different situation because as central Michigan. You have the Pagis stats and get people to notice, you know, I'm semi if Antonio Brown is at USC, right? Thank you. I hope against them for more points. Just there the mentality right juju? Smith Schuster is not your typical DiBa wide receiver. He's more Jerry Rice, meaning and not. And don't look into that Twitter verse. I'm not comparing the example, right? That Jerry is not. It was not about touchdowns. He was about winning games. The touchdowns happen to help them win and boatload of games going on to be one of if not the best wide receiver to ever play the game juju is all about wins. And if it takes him scoring a touchdown right to try and win a game. He will. But takes him to take a knee to ensure that the team doesn't get the ball back and not padding his stats. That's what he's going to do. Well, I'll say by Tonio Brown. I believe he's about winning two. I'm not going to try to compare the layers of who's more about winning more when it comes to juju Smith, Schuster and Antonio Brown. Antonio just using an I know you weren't I'm just saying from my standpoint, I believe Antonio Brown is about winning. He also believes and he's shown that they're at their best when he's going touchdowns and making plays and getting into the end zone. So I'm not gonna say that one the idea of winning games is better than the other. I don't think anybody you're not doing that. I don't think anybody should do that. But I will say this the one game that juju Smith is Susan's many right now, it's common sense. Because it seems that's lacking between both of these entities going on between Pittsburgh on one side Antonio Brown and the other side if the students don't want him in art Rooney the second set at ninety three weeks ago that he could not envision a scenario in which Antonio Brown's gonna be back with this team before training camp. Now, barely three plus weeks later, this some kind of dialogue going on between Antonio Brown in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whatever way that is whatever fashion that is not take anything for grown people. To get in a room, and I can talk to talk to each other like grown adults. And I know when money and politics get involved, it can change people's perception and can make the team you you can use that forever you want. But there probably plenty of guys that locker room that a not gonna continue to hold it against Antonio Brown. Now, if you want to that's fine. But there plenty of guys like look it happened w can do about it. But we still want that guy here. So what this deal is going to do about it. Do they go against maybe twenty thirty five guys want the guy? They're all it's twenty-five that don't want him there, especially it's been productive. That's a decision. They have to make. But nothing is going to happen. If there's no communication between both of these to the find exactly where he's at. And where they're at in that situation will avion I think is is all but gone. And I think also Brown is all but gone because they don't say that about Antonio Brown. Don't be surprised if he's back the Steelers next year. Hold on. Nothing's really surprises me when it comes to pro sports guys, you know, as far as coming back or not coming back. I mean that that that's not I wouldn't be surprised. But in my opinion will live when art Rooney the second says something like that. Right. And when Mike Tomlin has it conversation with Antonio Brown after he quit on his team. And then my Armenian a second kind of backtracked on talking to the fans saying we're going to have a conversation. It's not totally closing the door. I would also say that's also trying to increase trade value. Because when you say a guy has gone, it doesn't exactly help you. So let's say we're trying to get into mind if somebody we don't know. Oh, no, I agree with that. We really don't know what I'm going as far as you know, just what we've heard in public comments because I didn't even was smart for read the second to put it out there. You know, we're all but done with this guy because that doesn't help you if you're trying to shop him, that's fair know, sometimes if you know a lot say little if you know more se les, how many times we heard that saying, right? So to me man, juju Smith Schuster is correct. About one thing and everything he said, and there's no doubt about it. This is a Kardashian light citing show damn soap opera, and I don't know how it's going to end. But I'll tell you this much as long as Big Ben is there. Right. And as long as Mike Tomlin is there. These guys are going to be contenders. And they were one play literally one play away from making the playoffs. When you're in the playoffs. You gotta shot. They've proven it as a team has gone from wildcard to Super Bowl champions. And not just once. I I'll say this. The Steelers brought this on themselves event. Tonio Brown was this kind of malcontent. Somebody you back to the years past right? Whether it's Mike Tomlin head coach of the guys not locker room, the organization based book live. Yeah. When when when I saw that it's okay. If he if they don't do something about this. This may be a bigger problem than they want to deal with. And then we heard the Mike Tomlin said, yeah, I'll let all this go on because that guy produced on Sunday. That's not a good way to go about a guy who believes he's bigger than the team win will happen for Anthony Davis like it happened for Kris Porzingis that's next on ESPN radio and the ESPN.

"ESPN radio ESPN news before I get into Super Bowl talk. Let's transition to the Pittsburgh Steelers because of Antonio Brown a name that you just brought up a couple of minutes ago a couple of weeks ago. Steelers Ono team president rather art Rooney the second, you know, basically said it was hard to envision Antonio Brown returning now two weeks later, he. He's taken a more measured reproach approaching speaking on or you know, I guess via the Pittsburgh Tribune review. He said, quote, there are a lot of factors. We have to take into account. We'd have to sit down with Antonio and understand what he is. And make sure he understands where we are. There's some work to do before we figured that out. What was the problem in Pittsburgh all season long with Antonio Brown? And do you believe based on your reporting that it's something that can be rectified? Well, tackle the last one. I I think that it's possible. The situation can be rectified even talked about this on NFL live last week colleagues. You know, John FOX and Tedy Bruschi were thinking that, you know, the situation looks pretty much gone just because of the language that came from the owner, you know, last week, but my position Steven was, you know, just like with any marriage any relationship any divorced. You know, this is how things sound when emotions are at their highest. And I always like to think that things aren't really, you know, irreparable until they really really really aren't you get down to that last nitty gritty, and I still think that there's an opportunity for Antonio Brown to show contrition humility for the Steelers to also come to the middle of the table and to have that discussion. And I say that just because we're not there yet. And you. See that there is a article, I believe from our own Jeremy talking about how pouncey would like to, you know, maybe be the person in the middle to help bring those two sides together and still see if it can work out. I mean, the, you know tensions reports about in Tonio Brown and Ben Rothlisberger off and on are nothing new. That is something that we've heard since he's been there. Also that is not nothing new just to the Pittsburgh Steelers. There are times when oh DAL and and things that you know, he had things with ally or other wide receivers have things with their quarterback. So that is nothing new. What makes it more is the fact that it was so public in the sense of the way he got off the bench in front of everybody and the game that everybody was watching and certainly that is no excuse for that type of behavior. So I would like to think that it's not done until it's done. I think that he's somewhat undercut his leverage by acting the way that he does. Because every team now knows that you know, this is a situation that is. You know, not great. And that's not going to help the assets that the Steelers would like to get in return. And obviously they're gonna only want that for, you know, top topics change. So I think that I I'd like to think that the the door could still be open for possible return until we get the never never ever end..

Ben Roethlisberger is 'clearly a part of the problem'

"Next. Next team president art Rooney. The second said Wednesday that talks have started between the Steelers and Ben Rothlisberger on a contract extension. Big Ben who turns thirty seven in March has one year remaining on his current deal. And let's keep in mind. There's been a lot of drama and Pittsburgh fellas and Tonio Brown apparently wants out lay beyond bells that out the entire season. Not to mention that Big Ben has been going back and forth on retirement these past couple of seasons. Tedy Bruschi still here with us joining us from the Pro Bowl and Orlando I teddy. There you are. We got you got you and all your friends in the background is big and more of a problem or a solution because this franchise feels like a mess right now. Because both he's he's definitely a part of the problem because they no other men in which he's handled things. I mean, again, you know, you you've got numerous players. You've got numerous NFL aficionados that have religiously called out Big Ben for saying things in throwing people under the bubble in the fashion of the quarterbacks. Don't this is not me talking. This is basically reporting what they've said as max is done as many others. If you watch Big Ben you talking about juju Smith Schuster. We should have thrown the ball of him every time you say something like that. You've got to know you've been around Antonio Brown long enough to know, how those kind of things would affect him along with various other things in other positions that he has taken that. We don't have time to get into in the end when it comes down to is that has made him a part of the problem because Big Ben is live by different set of rules. He's a bit flagrant with it. And I don't give a. AM who you are anytime you receive preferential treatment that you are you are playing by different set of rules as everybody else you are going to rub people the wrong way, especially when you consider the individual who abuses, the privilege. That's the bottom line. Having said all of that. When you look at Big, Ben he's also a part of the solution because nobody's perfect everybody makes mistakes. And if you're willing to man up in knowledge that you could have done better in certain respects. I think that would go a long way, I think the thing that the Tonio Browns of the world and others that are incredibly frustrating is not that big been mixed the mistakes, they made is that he doesn't necessarily he isn't necessarily deemed as an individual that learns from apologized showed the pope level of contrition and move forward without making sure not to repeat those mistakes again throughout the years. You've seen a pattern of behavior that has been consistent with him in that he has gotten away with it. If you listened to those NFL players Antonio Brown is one of those NFL player. Here's somebody that has said that. And as a result, you a big band you want to alleviate this situation you speak up. You recognize us where you're at fault. And I think if he did that that would go along way. So he's both a problem and a problem solver in all of this because he's right in the middle of everything as the stock quarterback of the team who obviously has is outspoken, Saddam. Well, we agree and disagree because I think he is part of the problem the solution. But for very different reasons part of the problem because Ben Rothlisberger is like a rich man's Eli manning. He is too good for your team. Just to stink almost no matter. What's going on? Right. You're good. A win some games. Maybe make the usually make the playoffs. So how do you get his successor? There's no succession, I just talked about how you know, unless you're Bill Belichick level. And it's not so easy to find a quarterback when you're not drafting up high. You know, it's more of a crap shoot. They don't have the person there that they feel can take the reins of the team if they're truly grooming. It doesn't seem to me on the other end. Therefore at the moment. He reads a lot of power because when you don't have that. But you do have a talented team. And you have a quarterback who's shown he can still play at a very high level, and we're in an era. That's right teddy in an era where older quarterbacks are clearly protected in ways. They've never been you look the level. Tom Brady is still playing at forty one. Drew Brees at forty then rothlisburger at thirty seven that that they realize, oh, wait a minute as beat up as he's been as much as he talked about retirement. He's still maybe has some years of football left in him. We don't have as backup. So he wields probably too much influence and he seems to at times publicly throw players under teammates under the bus. He's a problem because he's too good to get that next quarterback with the draft pick. He's your solution to the extent that you're good because he's a really good quarterback. And if you ain't got that, you ain't got anything. I'm with both you here because Big Ben has been a problem, and he can be a part of the solution. But this is what's happening here as you're talking about max. The quarterbacks in this league getting older and older and still being able to play past forty. What's happening is a generational gap. A generational gap between the quarterback and all of the younger skilled players and all of the younger players on defense that are ended up being a part of this team and the ability to relate. So they're almost these kids are coming in plan. I mean rothlisburger will have players coming in make sure that have had his poster on the wall or something like that that group as fans, and so how does that quarterback that aging quarterback you mentioned breeze Brady and rothlisburger? How was he able to relate to them and make them feel like still an equal? And as one of his teammates, this is where Ben Rothlisberger has failed has he failed. Also and other aspects where Stephen as talking about what he's calling out teammates where he's got no business when he should have when he's the one making bad plays. Also. Yes, I agree with that. But he needs to learn to start to relate to these younger generation of players because he will continue to get older, and that gap is. Real and you'll see players life Brees. How he still it seems like medicine Brady and breathes? They're old. Okay. How do they still have these close bonds with these young players that come into their teams and their teammates talking about them like they're best? How does that happen? There's something. Character wise that breeze and Brady has right now that Rothlisberger is lacking. I need your help with something here. Because here's what you lost. You talked about him relating to the other players, and I don't disagree with that teddy. The problem is it eight the younger players complaining about him and Tonio Brown is thirty years old. He's been big big Big Ben Rothlisberger his teammate for almost the past decade. And so this is I'm not saying that, you know, the he's thirty seven thirty thirty seven like Big Ben is, but he ain't twenty eight twenty one like did you Smith Schuster? The man is thirty the last six seasons. He's had a minimum of one hundred one receptors a minimum of twelve hundred and eighty seven. Yard. He's produced. Poor Big Ben he's been a primary target for Big, Ben. And yet that's where the problem seems to lie at this particular moment in time. So how do you explain that? And I'll put it up put it simply then because I agree with you there. It's a feeling that I've had with the quarterback that I played with and a lot of the saints and a lot of these older players on these teams that are mentioning they have the overwhelming thought in their mind that my quarterbacks got my back. No matter what that's what I think's not there in Pittsburgh. It seemed like it seems like if something happens the quarterback isn't there to either bail you out off the field the Bill you out on? That's what it is. I don't know if they feel the same way some of these saints and other players that this quarterback. He's got my

"In North Dakota. He's of lead to hang with you. This is the guilt show. All right. Well, put the ANC NFC talk for the conference championship games on the back burner just for a little bit. Most of the show is dedicated to it for the entire four hours of Zach yelp show on CBS sports radio as we are closer and closer as the hours and minutes tick away, the second stick away until we will eventually crown a NFC champion champion later today with the saints hosting the Rams, and then the pats going to Kansas City, but I gotta talk about a team that is not in the postseason right now. And when you're a team that's not in the postseason, and you're being talked about on conference championships Sunday. It means something serious is going on in your organization, or there's a big story line or some type of drama that warrants airtime when a lot of it should be spent talking about the games coming up later today. The two games coming up later tonight. But what the Steelers art Rooney made some comments this past week got reading the second. And a few of the comments were tonight three point seven the fan. One of our Philly. It's in Pittsburgh, and he got into the conversation about culture and the Steelers owner said, I certainly don't think we have a culture problem we've won thirteen games last year. So if you have a culture problem if you have a discipline problem on your team, those kinds of teams don't win thirteen games of the NFL. Those are the facts that we have to deal with. So here's what I'm going to say about the Steelers, and let me preface it by saying the Steelers are one of the all-time iconic and great organizations not only in football. But all sports, there's a lot of respect. From ownership down to the bottom, and what the Steelers have been able to do and their time as organization, and when you were an organization that is viewed as one of those iconic franchises. You are expected to win and win often. And when you lose sometimes you still have success in terms of a good regular season record some fan bases would say I would die for that success. But when you are successful, you are judged by winning the championship or not winning the championship. And that's just the reality of the situation. Art, Rooney the second can deny that there's a culture problem with the Steelers. He could do it all he wants. And then the entire big picture of the organization they've had more success than failures. But right now if you want to say, it's this function. If you want to say that there is a culture problem, whatever you want to say, and however you want to spin it go ahead and spend it the way that you want to spin it. But there are problems right now and the Steelers organization, and here's why because you added a team, and you had a core over the last few years if you to look at two thousand fourteen when they made the playoffs they went eleven and five then they went ten and six then they went eleven and five then they went thirteen and three all those years. They made the playoffs. So when you're making the playoffs. Some of the drama and some of the problems get forgotten about. But then when you don't make the playoffs they go nine six and one people talk about it more. But playoffs are no ploughs when you have records like that. And when you have players like the three Bs that you had in Ben in bell and Brown and Bell's not coming back next year. And who knows if Brown is coming back next year. So may just be ben-. What you have a run of that. Those three players, and they they are such respected and and successful players in the league in terms of their talent and their ability. You should have a ring with them. And the combination of Ben bell and Brown combined when they play together not but to rings that Big Ben one. But when they are on the field together, they don't have a ring. And there's a reason for that. Sometimes you're just not good enough. Other times you have the talent. And you just don't win. And I don't think it's because the seal is just aren't good enough. I think there's problems with the way that team is being run right now. When you have your quarterback and Ben to do what he wants. He is that organization. He's that face of that franchise doesn't always represented the best way as we know what this off the field pass. But in terms of this year, he's gone on the radio and he's ripping his teammates. That continues the drama. Tonio Brown going missing from time to time as a bad look. So when you have your quarterback, and you're you're star quarterback and your star wide receiver adding into the drama, and then not being stopped or not being fixed. And it gets to a point where he allegedly Antonio Brown. Throws a football at Big, Ben. And now he wants out. That's the problem. That's a lack of accountability. That's a bad culture, that's a bad environment. And then you have more drama with blood on bell scandal. Hey, the guy wanted to how old out not much you could do. But with that being said, you can handle it a certain way and players voiced their frustration about that and made more distractions in the locker room and added more fuel to the fire in terms of drama. And if you wanna point back art Rooney the second to last year that thirteen and three season. There was the mentality problem with that team. They did so much talking. They were soap sess and getting revenge up against the patriots. After what happened to the regular season that they look past the team in the postseason that in the regular season beat them up pretty good and the Jacksonville Jaguars. So last year the Steelers were convinced when they were thirteen and three even though they lost the game with the whole Jesse James thing with the with the patriots and Pittsburgh. As it was ruled. No catch they were so convinced they would wind up. Back in the AFC title game to get another opportunity to take down. Ballot. Check and Brady. But here's the problem. The mentality of that team overlook the Jaguars who beat them up earlier in the season, and they got beat up once again. So if you want to admit, it, a culture problem or not that's up to the owner. But there is a problem in Pittsburgh. And the problem is they have talent. And the last few years that should have won at least one ring and they keep on getting in their own way. They keep on throwing up on themselves and because of their own stupidity. Whether it's a quarterback publicly, ripping a teammate. And sometimes you gotta rip your teammates. But there's different ways to go about that. Whether it's AB not showing up and going missing and getting into a fight with the quarterback. Whether it's the Levy on bell situation, and how that was handled or just for team at times being arrogant enough to just overlooking opponent in a playoff game. And then you wind up going home instead of wanting to get back to a game that you thought that was a big revenge game. And you got to put some of it on the coach to because Mike Tomlin, I think he's good coach. But all of these problems. Go back to the guys that are in charge. And it's not just him. The owner to you have to have an authoritative voice. You don't have to be a dictator, but you have to be someone that stops these problems from getting out to the public. You can't keep everything in house and this age of social media. We know that you can't keep everything a secret pliers like to talk pliers like to promote their own brand. But when you have one all right? That's fine. Now that could be innocuous if it's just one incident where a player's upset with another teammate. Now, I'll get to have agreement with a roster fifty three men in a physically grueling sport. But when you have two incidents a third one a fourth one a fifth one. That's when you have a problem. So you don't want to call it a coach a problem. That's fine. But the second part there is a problem. Whatever word you want to put in front of it to go ahead. And if you just want to simply look back and say, oh, we were a half game out this year. And we almost made the playoffs. Almost isn't good enough. When you're the Pittsburgh Steelers and thirteen of good season. When you go thirteen and three you're the Steelers you should win the Super Bowl, and you didn't. But when you consistently going double digit wins eleven and five ten and six eleven and five thirteen and three you should have a Super Bowl in that run when you have bell when you have Brown. And when you have Big, Ben. But because of all the drama and because of all the distractions. And because of the problems in your organization. Yes, I do think it's a culture problem, and you need a change in the philosophy. And that change needs to be a little tough love where if you are going to not show up in a must-win game that you don't need to be in this organization. Even if you're that talented, and it would behoove them to keep Antonio Brown. But he has to start to get it because he's a great talent. No other deny that. But he's acted like a knucklehead as of late and Big Ben. You know, what you've been great for that organization, but you shouldn't be your teammates publicly on a radio station the radio, we appreciate that. When you already have drama that exists. It's not good to add fuel to the fire. It's just not and Bank say what he wants because he's Ben and Ben is maybe thinking that's the way to use it as motivation. But when you have all these other situations that are messy this year. Probably not the best approach on it. 'cause then you get looked at more and more as an organization, that's dysfunctional. So we know the Steelers are synonymous with success, but they need to change their approach, and they need to be a little bit more strict with the members of that organization if they want to get back to the ultimate success and the ultimate stage once again, which is getting that Lombardi trophy at the end of the season because they have the talent. And it's gonna be a little bit different next year. You could have some players that aren't going to be there. Once again that have been a part of this fabric. Al this team. But if that mentality of just, hey, we have all this drama. Hey could be all loose, and there's no accountability. And there's no consequences for your actions. Not much will change over and double digit games. But yet in that big fat trophy and get another trophy for Pittsburgh won't be the case. Eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two on two forty two twenty seven. Do you think the Steelers have a culture problem right now? Not the history of the franchise. "Dot com in which case, he basically just regurgitated everything that he told those seven local beat writers that he met with. I think the re the reporters were guys like Mark of all a Dale Lally will raise the Associated Press. Chris Danske, Joe Rutter, all the typical guys that you should be following on Twitter that are beat writers that are in the locker room. They were the ones that got to sit down and talk with them now art Rooney answered a lot of questions he left some open ended an open ended answer for. One was what are you gonna do about? Mike Tomlin's contract, which is set to expire in a few years. Now, this is typically when they renegotiate and he said, we'll get to them. We get to it. There was really no definitive response to that. So that was interesting. He also said that the Steelers are not gonna be getting rid of any more coaches this year. Basically if you wanted Smith, Danny Smith gone if you wanted Keith Butler gone tough 'cause it's not happening. The only thing they're going to do is add some coaches, which they did already news was that, you know, they lost Mike munch shack. They promoted Sean, Sarah, his assistant to the office of line job. So that was news. He talked about internal Brown. He said they have still not have heard from him yet. He said that they have not received any formal trade requests, either things of that nature. He talked about potentially having someone on staff help Mike Tomlin with challenge. Ages and things like that. He did not he specifically said he does not buy into the reports the news that's going around stating that the Steelers are circus in that. They're completely disjointed. He said he thinks that's pure nonsense and nothing but media speculation. So he said other stuff those are kinda the bullet points, Lance hearing that is there anything that you gleaned from that that you think. Wow. I can't believe that was said, or is it just pretty much status quo for you. I think not. Being more specific about the contract negotiations or excuse me, the extension of Mike Tomlin. I think is surprising. But it sounds if they'll get to it when they get to it like he stayed it. So, you know, maybe he's maybe he's on the hot seat or maybe the seat is lukewarm whatever it is. Because talking about an extension and get an extension are two diff- two different things entirely. So that that was an interesting nugget. I mean, he's closer to it than everybody. Presumably. So if he doesn't think it's a circus. That's what it is. It his word is the final say. So not too surprising. I think I think fans are glad that at least he's gonna bring in a challenge coach. And I think that should illustrate one particular thing that they are interested in getting better in Tomlin has been ripped deservedly. So for his inability to challenge they make positive challenge. Even in fact, he's lost ten in a row. So I think that's a good side that the Steelers are serious. About improving and bring in more coaches to help staff improve little disappointed with the fact that the DC is not going. But you know, they bring it to her Austin bringing another mind in there. Hopefully that helps. Yeah. I mean, they're going to specialized route like a lot of NFL teams are with their coaching staff. I do know that the forty Niners just hired. A what is it like a pass defense specialist says basically kind of I guess what I would assume tro Austin's going to be doing is a secondary coach that's gonna basically like the secondary coordinator. I think he's going to help Butler. But at least they're not just saying it's going to be the status quo. You know what? I mean, that's big for me. But I was surprised that Joey porter and James Saxon. We're not the only coaches that were basically asked to leave. I do want to ask you, Mike munch check. He chose to take a lateral position in Denver. He did not get the head coaching job. But he's. Now, the Denver Broncos offense of line coach when you heard that news, what was your reaction?.

"Humility, get all the media noise out of your out of your head and everything and still make it work because at the end of the day. Good players don't grow on trees. And the good example of this. Also to me is in Miami. Where you just think, oh, you can just get anybody. Right. And Don Mcgann Soula J Jarvis Landry. Let now you. Head coach is gone. And then all of a sudden you look around you dislike in Philadelphia, you need you need players to make it work. So don't get too high on your britches. Like you've never made a mistake every year life. I'm talking about coaches staff people players, you know, there's no question that what an Tonio Brown leaving the game leaving your teammates behind that is not a good look. But I hate to talk about it so much like everybody else's above that. And no one has made a mistake. And it can't be repaired if humility comes to that. And the reason why I'm saying that is because at the end of the day. This is a player who has the most receiving yards in reception since he came into the league in that does not grow on trees, and maybe he can humble himself to make it work. Still head coaches should only comment on earn players on their own team. No, no, no. He. No, no. That's okay. Question. Because let me let me respond to that. Let me make myself clear Bruce Arians grown, man. Just like all the you grow men, and we have grown him. He can say whatever he wants. And I have no problem with the fact that he's exercising that I'm just saying with my particular opinion. I don't prefer to hear that just because you never know what you know, how things might shake out. You may need Antonio Brown. You don't know what's happening with why receivers on your team. And this you're trying to do on your team. And you never know how things shake out is someone apologize, whatever. So I'm just saying it was better left mixed real quick because art Rooney has apparently just met with members of the media in Pittsburgh. Ed bouchette who's covered this team for quite some time. It's just tweeted this this is from art Rooney who also made those comments about he didn't see a way back. No trade jet for Brown. And while he's keeping doors open as far as returning to Steelers. There's not that many signs out there. That's going to happen. I will say this. He's doubling down on the factor. Seeing that this. Likely won't work out keeping door. While he's I'm just saying it's not it's not final onto. What is why Why is it? is it? Those are good news. But he hasn't shown a willingness to do that. Not even at the Super Bowl. Yeah. There's a whole bunch of time. The good news is time and it is off season. You never know. I hope they can repent. All one hundred dollars to. I'm not saying that he hasn't done things. But I'm just saying it's not done yet. It is never done until it's done. We do know that. But again that was from art Rooney just a few minutes..

"Steelers owner art Rooney told the Pittsburgh post gazette on Thursday that it would be difficult to envision in Tonio Brown back on the team in twenty nineteen Brown has three years and thirty nine million left on his contract with the Steelers and you've been around art ruined Rooney Jenny like he is not bombastic. He is. I I like this was to Jerry deluxe covering the Steelers forever. Like, you can almost like I can picture him saying it, which probably very hushed tone. You know? And this tells me that this tells me he's gone. He also said last week Rooney's also said last week that the team will not release Brown. But all all other options are on the table. So it's it's clear that he's yeah. He's thinking next step here that he does not he is he's already putting into work that, you know, Brown's grabs would you go straight for him. Yes. I would put up my best offer. Liz, I'd be hesitant. I think you have to have. I think you'd have to have really strong for structure really like you'd have to like, I think there's a limited number of teams as good for like. And I look at is. So of course, I saw this. I don't know if you saw people tweeting about it earlier. But like what Andrew Whitworth did? I think it was on the punt right like on Saturday. Yeah. And if you watch if you watch the play Andrew Whitworth who as three hundred and ten pounds, the Rams left tackle is the first one down the field on the punt. And it was such a great example of like when the guys who at the highest paid players on your team are doing that. There's pressure on everybody else to be that way. And I think having that and having Aaron Donald be the type of player in person, he is and you know, Todd Gurley is that way to like if you can if you have that sort of player infrastructure, then you can start to take risks. And that's why they were able to take risks on a key. And that's why they were able to take risks on Marcus Peters and take a risk on Dhamma. And sue the patriots have always been able to take risks because they have Brady because Brady is the one who says and just you're not gonna crack that you're not going to be the best player there. And so like if you mess up their, you know, their people that's going to be self policed. You know, and so I think like Antonio Brown. It's crazy to be talking about thirty year old this way..

"Well, I mean, he made that perfectly clear on social media or that he just wants to be a way for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But maybe the apple the wants to be the forty Niners you couple that with the statements from when art Rooney the second couple of weeks ago where he doesn't envision Antonio Brown. Being part of the Steelers thousand nineteen looks like all sides are pointed to AB being traded at some point this off season. And maybe the ends up beating San Francisco tax seems like ways wanted to go. I mean, you know, you know, the tweeting back four the titan kindle over there. He actually AB Antonio Brown. He changed his a bio used to mention offer a wide receiver, Pittsburgh steals. It just says all pro wide receiver a hashtag ABA before it. No more mention of the Pittsburgh Steelers for those that don't know in Antonio Brown's Twitter bio, which someone. I think that if you're not involved social media guy who has Twitter Schmidt. But this actually is a big deal in this day and age I mean, because that's people what they represent that representation that would have bio I mean, it doesn't suck. But if he had that it said Pittsburgh seals and now he took it off. And he ended it and even follow the Steelers as kind of a big time multiple red flags along with Jerry Rice said so yeah, we've talked about this this this. He will not be steel next year. Looks like that all all sides are it's a very emotional situation. We're at the early stages of it along were a little bit of ways away until the the start of the NFL off season TASR and the the start of the NFL new NFL calendar year. So maybe cooler heads, prevail talent is talent. But right now all signs point to Brown getting dealt and they should be able to get something back. In regard, some speculate. Maybe a first some have speculated maybe multiple picks with a high point being a second round, selection and another pick brand Tonio brownie is thirty years of age. You can help your team a lot of different ways the concern you'd have is. He wasn't a happy camper in Pittsburgh. Well. Would lead you to believe if all the sudden, right? Know another receiver player on offense gets more active than he does is he gonna pull the same temper tantrum and sensitivity that he showed a Pittsburgh. Right. Well, do you have to be in a place that he could end up, and it would be of just a what a show would be. If he went to the jets adjust the number three overall pick make a deal out that well, no, I'm just saying anything after Catholics. They got the money. But could you imagine that I wouldn't want that as a jet fan? I mean, that's great as Antonio Brown's because I just think that could be a problem. Sam Donald young quarterback was still trying to hone his craft. You got crazy gaze is in there. You got him there. You know, you got it just would be it'd be a tremendous for the guys next door WFAN. Yeah. I wouldn't want Antonio bribe one lady, I'm bell more. So than. They have they've got a lot of money to spend this off season. It'll be interesting to see. But maybe rice ends up being a little bit of a fortune teller. And he does end up in San Francisco with the forty Niners..

Art Rooney II: Steelers considering Antonio Brown trade

"Steelers, president art, Rooney the second speaking of sealers made some very limiting comments about intoning Brown his future. There is murky implied. He will be gone next season, but he gave a little wiggle room. He was asked to be season coming back, and he said as we sit here today, it's hard and vision that, but there's no sense on closing the door on anything today. We don't have to make those decisions right now. Whether the situation can be reconciled and having back on next year, we're not closing the door on anything there. Then Antonio Brown posted this photo on his social pages after that with the caption good business hashtag. I don't know that means, but. Solid sold ownership for sure I I don't think feelers to make a decision on Tonio Brown right now either. I think let the let the season kinda similar let everyone's emotions calmed down a little bit get everybody in a room have a conversation and see if you guys can all get on the same page. I don't think that's going to happen. But it's possible.

"Weigh in on should the Steelers move Antonio Brown at this point because that's still doesn't seem to have a clear cut consensus answer at this point. Because of the other worldly talent, we're always just inclined to say we can make it work first. And last the podcast statement again that we heard from Steelers president art Rooney that it would be quote hard to envision Antonio Brown being with the Steelers when training camp opens in July to me that undermines every bit of the effort that Mike Tomlin has made publicly. Now, we could debate the practices privately that have led to the locker room situation. I know plenty of people have with Mike Tomlin, but publicly he has always been the stopper in the bottle that keeps all of this or does its best to keep all this from leaking out into the public. But when you have a statement like that were ownership gives credence to everything that has been going on to some of the things that we have heard from players of the things that we have heard from an Tonio Brown. All of this. I think runs counter to what your goal is. Ultimately as team, and that's what we're dealing with today. It's first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and ESPN app. We've got that going on today. And this is a great time of change in the AFC north right now as a division Steelers have been the powerhouse. They're the Baltimore Ravens have traditionally been that team right alongside them. And they're going through a facelift right now with their star position at quarterback. And what we saw with the mar- Jackson down the stretch of the season that certainly sputtered when you got to the playoffs. But we know the Browns are coming Baker Mayfield. Freddie kitchens takes over as their new head coach after enjoying a lot of success with Baker post. Hugh Jackson, Todd Haley in the course this season. And then you've got the Bengals who. We finally saw some change there. I mean, Marvin Lewis is no longer the coach after sixteen years of playoff ineptitude. But restoring the franchise to at least respectable status, and allowing that organization be profitable in the way that they ultimately only care about all of that going on there. We dig it. Some news about them on the coaching front. Zack Taylor the quarterback coach for the Los Angeles Rams as being zeroed in on as a candidate that they want again in keeping with this off-season theme of is your coach close to Sean McVeigh. This is about as direct hit as you could hope for in this cycle of coaches. It is always interesting to the way that they take liberties with your playing career. Once you start getting good at something else. Like my dad's. Always the first one to talk about this when he gets up and talk. My dad was a captain at Notre Dame was an unbelievable player. There had all these things. But by his own admission would probably. Not say Notre Dame the legend, and yet that's what the moniker tends to become when you go on and do Mike and Mike in the morning and Golic and wingo. Now, kind of gets become a big deal. Zack Taylor was a quarterback at Nebraska who had I think was big twelve player of the year one year something like that. But when you get former Nebraska star Nebraska quarterback at a place like Nebraska that has had some pretty ball quarterbacks over the years. It is just always interesting once you get into doing well in the next career your last bit starts to get embellish. It a little bit world cool with it. I mean, how hopefully someone will start embellishing my career soon and be pretty nice. But you take it for what it's worth. So we've got those things happening right now in the AFC north a lot of. A lot of transition there. And if we are to believe that the things going on with Antonio Brown may ultimately lead to his departure won a facelift for this team where now Ben Rothlisberger who if you had asked me, and I think we did do this question..

"Out with us. They hit thanks to shell Pennzoil performance line. So what to do what to do about Antonio Brown? If you are the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's part of straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones. Best networks, no contracts. You don't have to know who art Rooney. The second is Anita knows that not only is he a Steelers president. But his voice goes a long long way. And maybe Pittsburgh's at the breaking point with their star wide receiver. He told the Pittsburgh post gazette that they could envision a return by Antonio Brown. Antonio Brown's unique very hard to come by. He said, and I quote, there's not much we can do right now. We have time to make a decision, but I will say all options are on the table. Whether is situated whether the situation can be reconciled and having back. On the team next year will long way away from thinking that can happen. We're not closing the door on anything at this point. Unquote. That was a shot fired by art, Rooney the second owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers not across the bow of Antonio Brown. But right between the eight four, and I think they are so fed up. And this is so UN Steeler like for things like this to be going on in Pittsburgh and sad that organization the more sound franchises historically in the National Football League. They had three head coaches in their franchise history. Three. In Cleveland Saadat in the last four years. Exactly. Had that Hugh Jackson. Greg Williams, pretty kitchen right now, the Browns are more stable than the Pittsburgh Steelers. I mean, it really is remarkable to see this going on in Pittsburgh. So that was a direct shot Bom right in the chest of Antonio Brown. So let's begin before we get into numbers and with some market for an Tonio Brown, by the way that marketing included guy who had one hundred and four catches one thousand two hundred ninety seven yards a league-high fifteen touchdown receptions, and who will turn thirty one years of age in July. And that's still think he's probably got three four really great years left. Any then you'll see a drop-off, but let's begin with the locker room. This is a guy who in week seventeen essentially a playoff game last year must win. And then you need help. If you get help, which they almost got year in the playoffs that was essentially a playoff game in week seventeen at home. And he just went AWOL skipped practice and then on Sunday shows up to the game expecting to play. Man. He's lucky guys like big Al Villanueva just in snap him in. And I got it got an official body count meal being an army ranger. Three tours of Afghanistan. So the one in the locker room, there's no way that guy is being welcomed back. Emmy, you talk about awkward. Come on. He he he he essentially quit on his teammates. That's one to the money, Freddie. He restructured a contract he signed about two years ago, sixty eight million dollar deal recently to help the salary cap. So he he has a cap hit this year of just north of twenty one million dollars. If he were traded Pittsburgh is on the hook for now they can break that up into two seasons. It's still ten million a pop or you sign him do a restructured new deal to the team you're going to trade him to ship him off. If brownie there's ways they can get around that. But it's still it's a big big cap number and guys thirty one years of age who has been all about him being better not the team being better. So to me, I would not want that kind of attitude on my particular team Robert Thompson on Twitter. Komen ESPN entity and Fitz ESPN agrees with you. He says trade him they be. Crazy to keep that, dude. Freddie coleman. That's meet Fitzsimmons. That's him on Freddie and Fitz on ESPN radio. If I were the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's no way my pain that you can keep this guy going forward. I'm sure right now, I'm Bill does not look that bad to the Pittsburgh Steelers based on what we've seen never mind the bad Antonio Brown with the numbers. He put up there saying, you know, what we rather try to win without this guy and try to win with this guy anymore. What hell's the Pittsburgh Steelers at the age factor? Antonio Brown's twenty four twenty years of age, we're now hearing art Rooney the second say anything, but at thirty to thirty one at an expendable position because you've got juju. Smith sister, you believe you can find somebody else to go along with him in a couple of other guys you have enough football team right now, they're not Antonio Brown. But you feel you have enough to put those guys together where they still more than effective. Ben rothlisberger. You can still be an effective offense in the National Football League. MB top-flight offense in the AFC. Pittsburgh has to look at themselves in the mirror and put some blame on themselves for where they are now then Tonio Brown. They could have reigned him in long before they could have done something from a discipline standpoint. Not just finding a guy, but saying, you know, what Antonio suspension for a week until you straighten up and fly. Right. We can't have you in this locker. We can't have as a part of this organization as talented as you are you are you are becoming a liability. You're not an avid football team. But Pittsburgh because of that production the allow things he did they always say, well, we'll handle in house. Sometimes it's best to put that out for public view to say this is what we did with Antonio Brown. We're not gonna put up with this anymore. We're not going to allow his personality his brand to outsiders, but not saying he can't get his Jain on. But when it becomes detrimental to what we're trying to do because we're trying to smooth things over to make sure he's feeling good and make sure he's feeling right. Pittsburgh has to look at themselves a lot in the mirror. Whether it's Mike Tomlin head coach was art Rooney the second the rest of the organization, they had a chance of rain this guy editorship in the players. Sometimes you can't. Just put on the guys in the locker room because I'm saying, I'm seeing all all repa-. Okay. Vega umbrella. That's fine. They had a chance to reign this guy in and say, look, we don't mind you being who you are. But it becomes self defeating what we're trying to do. Instead a little bit here a little bit there, and it became more and more emboldened until it got to the point of no return would happen that last regular season game in two thousand eighteen it really is. When you when you think about it man this baby went south, and I mean, south in a hurry. It's he seemed envious at times of juju. Smith schuster. Even though he was you know, what it is. Well, it doesn't bother me when somebody says that it bothers them, you know, and who is the MVP the squad as you as you mentioned I've been Robin. Yeah. As you ju- Smith Schuster, they have a young white out on the other side in the rookie out of Oklahoma state and James Washington, I think they expected more and I guy wearing thirteen but I having watched him a ton being in big twelve country. James Washington has potential to be a heck of a player in the National Football League is I mean, a very solid number two. So what's the market for in Tonio Brown? I really have no earthly idea. I think he has to go to a berry union he has to do with. Randy moss, ended up doing at the end of his career going to the patriots Joakim team like that. But you it's amazing. Yeah. Is that it used to be a handful of teams Green Bay used to be one of them? Pittsburgh was one of them. New England was one of them. A handful of teams that any player that had a history of being more about him than the team could go to and all of a sudden, you're flying, right? What's amazing is that he was on one of them right now. They aren't anymore, and that's amazing. When you really think about one of the more stable organizations and the only team or the only type of team that I think Antonio Brown if I'm looking to trade for him that he can go to a team that is that solid in all phases. Ownership head coach locker room. Join Wilson said on Twitter SPN entity and fits ESPN. This deal is best players are the worst leaders including the quarterback, and there's more than an element of truth to that. Because he's foot retirement. Absolutely. I mean, you can put it on Ben Rothlisberger. But there should be somebody else in that locker room. I guarantee you this. None of this goes on James Harrison still part of this football team because he's not gonna let anybody interfere with him winning a ringer interfering with his money. But when that guy was out of that log when because I don't think it's a coincidence that the minute James Harrison retired that Antonio Brown all of a sudden decide to act more like Antonio Brown. He could get away with a little bit. But then Jane tyrants, they do that ain't happening. You know? Knocked out. Right. You know? But he knew he, but no one was knocking out depot now locker room for the Steelers. Well, he he ended up being there. Because he can't play football forever. And when it comes to Mike Tomlin is Shannon, Pinot producer. Brought this up. Was there anything he could have done to kind of Tampere his behavior. Whatever he did didn't work, whatever he tried to do did not work. And it's at a certain point, you gotta you gotta be just like in the movie lean on me joke like have a bat in your hand and say, you act taking a battle side your backside. That's what you've got a handle guys like that. Because he's at an expendable position. They can find wide receivers a goal. Ben rothlisberger. That will give them less nonsense. No matter. How talent Antonio Brown is an Annemarie. I hear you on Twitter. She said I believe they should talk and come up with a solution. I can't see him walking away from the Steelers. We don't know what kind of conversation have happened. Then Antonio Brown was not receiving because as I said, he has a strong will. He also has a strong won't if he does not want to do something. He won't do it. My dear he quit on his team. And what was essentially a playoff game. He went AWOL for practice in shows up on game day that does did not play well at all in that room. They he gone. The question is. How many teams what kind of market is out there for him because they can get creative when it comes to the money, right? When it comes to their cap it. Yeah. I'm curious to see how many times how many teams would want him this deals for that kind of money with that kind of money can Salva capping find a soccer that's going to go along with what they want and a lot of things out there going we like Antonio Brown. We don't like him like him enough to take him off your hands because he has been your problem often Levy on belts enough year doesn't look that bad in Pittsburgh after all based.

"Best thing. To say Stacey Elliot is absolutely nothing at all they said what the NFL's new helmet rule has been a major concern and a source of absolute confusion. For players for coaches for executives around the leak many of bashed, it or questioned. Exactly what the rule is Steelers president art Rooney, the second joined Sirius XM NFL radio this weekend. And he didn't seem quite as. Concerned about it we're just, trying to eliminate the the helmet has a weapon and I think it can be done without really changing the game dramatically I'm concerned we, shouldn't be seeing three or four calls a game we should be seeing A, few calls a weekend and that's about it and I, think that if we you. Know we're smart about it and the the ficials you know there's no some adjustment period it's gonna take time for. Everybody to just do it and really figure out how you know how it's gonna work I know the, players are wanting a lot of input in in the preseason is going to be interesting but I think that it is something that can be done without having a dramatic effect on the game and it same time. Getting out the really the kinds of hits that you don't wanna see them the game I think, one of the things that hasn't, been discussed enough is that if, players understand the, rule if coaches don't understand the rule if executives. Don't understand the rule if it's accurate that league officials have had trouble explaining the rule how are the officials themselves who have. To implement, identify, real time the helmet rule going to know. What the hell they're doing I remember man I must been. Five or six years ago it's been a bunch of. Time in Texas with Aspiring NFL officials mostly around a woman named Kat Conti who wants to be the first NFL official to make it to. The NFL first visual make it female Fisher will make the NFL she was the second but one, of the things struck me was, they would talk about the quickest, way to have, a bad official is to have a bad rule. Or something that's confusing clarity's the key and if there's not clear on any level how you can expect us officials especially with. So many, folks, who have retired get it right if on. The NFL I'm using the preseason very very aggressively To. Get the rule in place I'm throwing the flag Alanis rule and I'm. Using time train my officials afterwards because once the NFL starts one helmet rule that. Doesn't work is going to, undermine the idea and the support among fans in the league to do as Rooney said what really is the primary thing and that's. Make the game safer they, said what's our last but. Not least one of, the big topics of discussion in the NBA recently has been receiving the NBA playoffs one through sixteen gotta hate this idea to help alter the lack of competitive balance. Between the east. And the west one person who was against it and therefore correct is former, NBA center Shaquille O'Neal whose nickname was then diesel who had. This to say on his podcast the big podcast, was shack.

"The clock it wasn't that much it was a very little time left on the clock and just the way those final couple minutes played out at almost added insult to injury and so according to my florio some of the parters are so upset that they're planning to go to art rooney and say fire mike tomlin now toppling certainly had some decisions that we're eyebrow raising but let's be fair the jaguars built to 21 to nothing lead there were a couple of turnovers by the steelers and the steelers defense almost didn't participate at times there was a show by the defense the talvin smith at you her with frank frangie on the jaguars radio network but other than that the steelers defense gave out what 38 points the final score was forty five to forty two at a lot of reagan points so they're far bigger issues in my opinion that that what the steelers did wonder down ten with a couple of minutes ago sure questionable decisions the gets it's frustrating for the steelers for the organisation that they wanted to get back to the afc championship have an opportunity to take out the patriots to get to the super bowl they felt like this was their opportunity or they had a huge opportunity here just side note i wonder how the nfl and tv executives feel about a game that was supposed to be pittsburgh new england and now is new england jacksonville i just would like to ensure the nfl and the tv exact that i'll be watching don't you worry no matter what the matchup is also watch eight five five two one two four due to seven that's our number as for the issues with the steelers as for dealing with this loss as for the igf of maybe a new coaching staff is call mona.
