The Ride of Sybil Ludington

"Night in question that gave civil place in history was on april. Twenty six seventeen seven civil had just turned sixteen years old on the evening. In question a writer came to their home to tell her father that the british had attacked and burn the town of danbury connecticut. The ludington house was located just south of connecticut. Along the coast from long island british. General william tyron had come to destroy the arms and ammunition stockpiles with over two thousand men. Curdle ellington had to assemble the four hundred militiamen in the county to defend themselves from the british. The problem was the militia had been disbanded for the winter and hadn't yet reassembled. The record is in clear on what happened next either. Civil volunteered or her father asked her but either way. Civil set out to warn the residents of nearby towns and to assemble the militia. She supposedly grabbed a stick and set up with her horse at nine pm with their sticks. She prided the horse and used it to knock on the doors. Of all the houses she stopped at all evening. She wrote around putnam county warning the citizens and calling the militia to assemble all night long. She called out. The british are burning. Danbury through the darkness of night she wrote a forty miles or sixty four kilometers. She took a circular route through the county visiting the towns of carmel mayo pack. Ken cliffs and farmers mill before returning. Home herreid wasn't just long. It was dangerous now. Not only were there loyalists in the region but there were british troops and a local group of outlaws known as skinner's plus. It rained that night and she had to do most of the rides soaking wet when she got back home in the morning. She was exhausted and soaked but she had done her job. The militia was assembled and they were able to drive general tyron back to long island. Sound civil was congratulated by our neighbors and supposedly by george washington himself just as a point of comparison. Symbols ride was three times longer than paul. Reveres she did it in the rain and she did it during the war. When there were actual enemies about paul veers ride was done just before the war started and there wasn't any danger from the british yet.

China Is Limiting Kids Playing Video Games to 3 Hours a Week

"On wednesday. New rules took effect in china that severely restrict the amount of time. Young people can play video games online. Between friday and sunday gamers under eighteen years old will only be allowed to play between eight pm and nine pm the rest of the week. They won't be allowed to play at all. The regulation will also require all users to register using their real names and government issued. Id's it's of beijing's larger efforts to crack down on the growing power of tech firms and insert itself into the private lives of chinese citizens joining us to discuss how these new rules are being received. And what it means for. Gamers and gaming companies alike is the wall street. Journal's deputy china bureau chief josh chen hi josh. How are you so josh. This is the first time. China has restricted gaming for minors in two thousand nineteen limited playtime to ninety minutes on weekdays and it also limited. How much money they could spend on video games. So we're these new. Even more restrictive rules. A surprise was in wasn't a surprise last month. State media outlet published a commentary described video games as quote unquote opium of the mind and that triggered a pretty major sell off shares of gaming companies ten cent which is china's biggest gaming company. I think fell somewhere around. Eleven percent in prior to that china's leader xi jinping has taken aim at video games as a danger to the development of chinese youth. So we've suspected for a while it's something might becoming but what was surprising was just how strict and specific these restrictions were three hours is pretty miserly. Yeah these new restrictive rules. How is china planning on enforcing them in. That's a really good question. They haven't been specific about it and the way that things often work in china's at the communist party will come up with rules and then sort of leave it up to the internet companies themselves to figure out how to enforce

"New. Why don't you start us off. As my notes are loading nine coming from the lovely land of china make news today. Tim recently just announced. I take the announced today but they announced that anyone under the age of eighteen will now have limited playtime. I guess you could say when it comes to gaming in china already has some restrictions around how much you can game so this is not anything mu in that sense but i do believe we've taken this a little far so new chinese law states that anyone under the age eighteen is not going to be allowed to play essentially any games during the week in starting friday the sunday they have three hours of allocation between eight. Pm in they can play an hour a day. Friday saturday sunday from eight. Pm to nine pm. So the good news. Hair league of legends fans primarily last day of positivity month so good. Last day of positivity the positive hair is u. n. a. e. u. fans should be relatively excited for the future of liangelo star craft or any of these games that have a bigger asian following if china's number. One in might not be very long. Tim three hours a week. You're allowed to play friday saturday sunday. One hour a day from like eight. How do they monitor that though. What's china but like in the sense of if your dad games in he doesn't care that you play more like couldn't have a big army. Maybe they have like a soldier forever cam on at all times when you're gaming like everyone must be streaming when you're yeah just getting ready to. I don't know if that would break the law. I'm just saying how would they know if you were.

Always Hungry Before Bed? Heres What to Do

"Wanna give just some recommendations that might be helpful because i mean for whatever reason like if you are hungry close to bed time you do want to try to give yourself some amount of time to digest your food because it takes a few hours for the stomach to empty out and i don't know about y'all but if you e- right before bed for me i get like major reflux. I get cramping and that makes a lotta sense. Because you're you're still digesting your food and you know if you're laying down your food that could be a formula for disaster and i've seen this for a lot of people that i work with so if this is your experience where you're like eating close bedtime you notice that you're having some discomfort. I would recommend timing things out a little bit. It can be lose but just timing things out so that you give yourself at least a couple of hours So if you're like. Oh or what i've done is because you know. Sometimes you can't really time these things out. If i happen to get really hungry at nine. Pm i'll try to watch a show or something to like. Just keep myself engaged instead of just falling asleep right after so that my body can like digest most of the food that i just ate some people like i said they experienced the reflux other digestive issues and also like eating right before bed. It can impact sleep quality. And how many times to wake up after falling asleep because also like when you're eating i mean usually there's like some amount of fluids in the Eating but also you know like a lot of people like to drink water. Have a beverage as part of the meal. This not that they're having and so you know you might find yourself waking up a few times throughout the night to p because of that meal that you had right before bedtime so and that could be uncomfortable so just keeping that in mind Such a good point. And also i think it's. It's the amount of putin. It's what you're eating. Because absolutely i know for myself hundred percent i can eat meal before bed but i usually can have a snag and and certain snacks. Nay not cause any problems. Like i've noticed if i just have like a scoop of peanut butter. Some nut. Something like

Why Logic Doesn't Help When Intervening With Big Feelings

"So right now. We're going to say something like the following like thank you logic. Thank you linearly your useful in so many areas in my life an intervening with my kids when they're struggling. It's just not where you're gonna shine. It actually gets in our way. And here's why all of the struggles our kids have especially in these situations you're naming these are struggles of motion regulations. Something feels so unmanageable in their bodies that their bodies are almost on fire and when we feel that kind of out of control feeling guess what we act how we feel we act out of control the screaming the doubling down when it doesn't make any sense right the the kicking the nasty words. These are assign that our emotions overwhelmed. Our bodies and i really believe as animals we are. We feel before we think. And if our bodies can't regulate the big feelings we have we literally don't even have access to logic and rationality and it's actually the same thing is adults right. I know so many adults who we know better. I don't know how many of us know how to eat or we like no. We wake up exercise. We know he should turn off our phone at nine pm or shouldn't sleep with our phone in our room and yet i don't think that knowledge translates into action for most of us. What does control us in. Those moments is on regulated feelings. Right maybe it's a high. Just feel the need for privacy and quiet time. And that's why i'm scrolling on my phone. Actually the thought of working out brings up so many difficult feelings and in service of avoiding those feelings i avoid the working out even though the working out again the knowledge and the rationality isn't the thing that changes my behavior. The emotion regulation does. And i think joshua this came from. Especially when you're saying we want our kids to have these responses and you can see the logical path and get when we meet big emotions with logic it literally is pouring fuel on the fire right so we need to figure out how to meet your kids. Emotion regulation needs which ironically will allow them to access more logical and rational thoughts in their

A Look Back at the 1983 KFC Massacre

"It was one of the most infamous crimes ever committed in east texas. Five people kidnapped from kilgore. Kfc then shot to death now. Thirty five years later. One of the men convicted could soon be set free on september twenty third. Nineteen eighty-three kim. Tyler stopped by kilgore texas. Kfc or and eleven pm to see for mom. Mary was still working to her shock. She found the restaurants door open and blood covering the floor. Kim ran out screaming. This begins one of the most mysterious texas mass slayings and as you can imagine. There are a lot of texas mortars. Today we're gonna talk about the infamous kentucky fried chicken murders so like we said on september twenty third. Nineteen eighty-three mary. Tyler was thirty seven. Opie hughes thirty nine. And joey johnson twenty or on-duty at the kfc and kilgore david maxwell twenty one employees at the restaurant who was off duty and just kind of hanging out and monty landers only nineteen was a friend of theirs and they were both there to visit with joey. The restaurant was about to close. It was likely around eight or nine pm in this two hour between eight or nine. Pm and eleven pm. When kim tyler found the blood inside the restaurant something terrible happened the next day. Five bodies were found by an oilfield worker off county road to thirty two four. Were shot point blank in the head. Their bodies were all pointing north. The fifth was found a ways later one of the women who was assaulted and facing a different direction. Obviously the town was shocked. Close-knit everything you'd think of conservative. Leaning as the police started investigating they started putting some of the pieces together. But since the murders happened between county. Lines ruskin greg counties. It meant it was already a contentious investigation. You'd think about an investigation anyway especially at this time. Nineteen eighty-three probably didn't get all the evidence. Maybe not as thorough as they would have liked and so this complicated things even more soon. The texas rangers also be involved appointed by the department of public safety to keep the case. Organiz sensing the tension between the two different counties. Two cousins from tyler. Romeo pinkerton darnell hartsfield became suspects just weeks after the killings but joe records at the time falsely indicated. The men might have been in jail at the time throwing the cops off their sent though. Hundreds of tips poured in more than a decade. When by before rusk county grand jury began meeting to an indictment in april nineteen ninety-five. The grand jury charged. James earl mankins junior. The son of texas representative with five counts of capital murder. Mankins who had conflicted pass to say the least and his wife deborah who also became a suspect had tied to the scene. There was a fingernail found on the victim's clothing and mankins was missing the same looking fingernail and the to fit while he was charged with the murders he was later released after beginning of pretrial proceedings due to a lack of conclusive

How Do You Stop Robocalls?

"We all hate robo calling. Those are the automated unsolicited calls made in the billions that ring our cell phones and ever declining home lines. That tried to defraud us by selling us. Crap claiming the irs or getting our credentials or personal information. They're also mostly illegal by nature even if a small percentage of them offering legitimate service or product illegal to autodial it's illegal to use a computerized or pre recorded voice. It's illegal to call before eight. Am or after nine pm in your time zone. If you stuck your number on the national do not call registry. it's illegal for commercial firms to call you even if they're legitimate businesses. Some ocean has taken place on this front. As of june thirtieth twenty twenty one all companies that handle voice calls from smallest to largest had to register in the robocall mitigation database. Starting september twenty second any company that hasn't registered will be blocked by all other telephone carriers. The new york times published a useful facts about this a couple of days ago. But i think it's pretty obscure to most people the changes imposed by the. Fcc have a chance of dramatically reducing the over fifty billion robocalls placed each year by essentially locking out the companies taking advantage of lax oversight. And what has been a fairly clunky system that was never updated for the digital era. The basis of this change are two protocols neatly named stir and shaken together they create a sort of end to end encryption verification path vaguely resembling secure website connections between browser and server. Did you know that caller. Id isn't verified. Any number can appear on your phone which is why it seems like random. Residential numbers are calling you or the prefix scam. You'll get one or more calls from numbers that start with your area code and the next three digits known as the prefix from the older days of analog phone switching with stir shaken all carriers will using encryption based approach that will create a verified chain from the calls initiating carrier to the carrier sending a call to its own
