"Really, really, really close to winning the national championship and, you know, he would have gone down legend status. He hurt his ankle during the NCA tournament and he toughed it out, which is another reason why he would have been a legend. They caught his sock. Good to check in. He's a warrior. That was a pretty nasty role, but when he gutted out here just standing with said state. Sort of the last image of him and the NCA tournament after becoming the first guy in the history of the tournament to post 6 double doubles in NCA tournament games, just unheard of. He was playing hurt, basically that entire what the final four, so if Carolina gets a bucket or two down the stretch against Kansas, this is off into the sunset. You know, we were writing books about Armando bay cut forever. Anybody who put up the kind of numbers he had, usually that's, you're off to the NBA. But we're in a different time. As you guys wrote in, just mentioned that performance made big hot the kind of player who a different era would have left for the NBA draft, but instead he really wasn't focused on the draft at all while having, quote, the most eventful spring in early summer of his life. So even can you tell us exactly what he's been up to? Yeah, I mean, he's been doing a bunch of business deals and taking a bunch of business meetings. He threw out the first pitch to the Baltimore Orioles game. Doing the honors this evening is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in Orioles fan. Please give a warm oriole park welcome to Armando. Bacon. He took a three or four episode role on outer banks because the showrunner, both of the showrunners for outer banks are like notable North Carolina alumni and men's basketball fans. John B, we are fugitives in a foreign country. Promise me you won't do anything stupid. Oh, sorry, Cameron. Stupid things all the time without realizing it. He posted photos of himself from the set. He did a fortnight, ad on his Instagram page, which all of his friends from the basketball team were making fun of for, but he definitely got a lot of money for her. He's done bad boy mowers, advertisements. He's got his own T-shirt line. Like he's been doing all of this stuff that working in a different position. He would have been working out for NBA teams, focused entirely on the draft, stressing where he's going to get picked, whether he's going to get picked, whether he's going to get a contract. And instead, it seems like he's having a lot of fun and making a not insignificant amount of money by being a really prominent college basketball player. Well, bacon spring and summer adventures in your words are also part of a, quote, defining sea change in men's college basketball. So let's look at why starting with the NIL side of things. So CJ, what does all of this off season activity mean for Armando bake hot wallet? It's getting fatter and fatter. I think he made an economic decision. To return to school, honestly, I think he probably will make more next season in college basketball than if he had declared and went to the NBA. Let's say he's on a two way contract, which would be realistic. He's looking at like 5, $600,000 there, which is really good money still. But coming back to school and we don't know for sure the numbers that he'll make unless those players want to reveal that. But from what we hear from coaches from people in the game, the rumblings, the numbers for a guy like him at North Carolina for an Oscar she way at Kentucky. They're getting really, really high, like over a $1 million. Wow. You could potentially say that his best earning years could be next year, maybe even the year after. In his life, which is just insane to say, while he's in college and that's how in our hail has kind of changed things to where you're at a school like North Carolina with a brand like that with boosters who are willing to put up big money. Why not say it? And the other thing a coach pointed out to me was not only are you making all this money, but you have no expenses. All your housings paid for. So you're basically just throwing money in the bank. That's a pretty good deal. I'll take it. Yeah, and the thing is, also, is that it's a lot of money that's coming in for Armando baker, right? And it's a lot of money for Oscar sheet. Oscar she way at Kentucky is a slightly different scenario where $2 million range that he's going to get paid to be a Kentucky basketball player this year. So that is getting into like, that's pro money, right? He probably would have gotten drafted a little bit higher, but not only is it better in college now than it ever used to be, but like because of the way the NBA has changed and not wanting traditional big men in this mold, one scout told me, it's not like North Carolina boosters outbid for Armando bay cat and gave him some bag that he wasn't going to get at the NBA level. He's like, I don't think that bag is there. So it's kind of a no brainer. And that's kind of what Armando said is like, yes, his ankle injury had a big part to do with it. But if it wasn't for NIL, he would have just forced it and gone to the draft and because of NIL, he kind of didn't really think about it that much. Now turning back to the basketball side of this, can you guys give us some more details on why exactly be caught after that great college season? Actually wasn't an ideal fit for the NBA? The way the NBA game is played so much on the parameter. It's what can you guard? And a guy like that, if you put him in pick and roll, he's not going to be able to defend a Steph Curry, for instance, you know, he's not going to be able to switch on to guys like that. So the NBA is looking for guys that are a little quicker and have perimeter skills because they really just don't throw it into the post that much anymore in the NBA. The team that played the most through the post in college or season ago was Wyoming. 28% of their possessions ended in a post up, which is just a ridiculous number that was like a record, but still, that's college basketball. In the NBA, the top one was like 8% with the Philadelphia 76ers who have a transcendent unbelievable talent in Joel embiid. So the way one scout put it to me is like, we might hide you defensively if you're like an unbelievable offensive talent in a starter on our team. But if you're not, why are we going to put you out there and try to hide you because you can't really do a ton of offensively because the NBA rules are different. You can't post up as close to the basket, the shooting so much better. It just makes more sense to play through parameter guys. So that's kind of why these guys just don't fit in the NBA anymore. We also wanted to look at a couple of other college stars whose situations with the NBA and Niall have played out a little differently. And so next up is Indiana's all Big Ten big man trace Jackson Davis. Can you guys tell us what this guy does well? Basketball wise. And what parts of his game he was working to develop? Yeah, he is a classic big man. Great left handed finisher, like automatic post up, gets to his right shoulder, shoots with his left hand, dominant interior player. Geronimo to Jackson Davis. Jackson Davis off the glass got a perfect angle. On his catches, he makes the ball look like a grapefruit with those big hands and then the quick maneuvering. Big strong blocked a lot of shots this year has definitely improved as a defender. He likes to back his way in. He's a former forward playing point guard. He's got some size and his shot is blocked away by Jackson Davis. But his strengths as a basketball player are very traditional. He is a low post scorer in the classic mold. And with the possible exception of Cody zeller, probably the best big man that Indiana has produced since Alan Henderson in the 90s, like perfect for a college offenses and NBA scouts are wondering if he can stay on the floor at the NBA level. That's just kind of where the jump shot isn't there. He hasn't shown it. He's better defensively in terms of moving his feet and playing out on the perimeter, but people are unsure. And so he is also in this limbo of his skills, make a lot of sense at the college level and not so much sense in the NBA, at least the scouts see him right now. It's just insane to hear like, here's the best big man in Indiana, a blue blood in college basketball, since the 90s. And we're not sure if he's a pro. That's what's so kind of crazy about this concept of like these big guys, like they're still really, really effective basketball players, but just it's almost a different game that diversity of styles of.

"Regarding Armando bake off producers or punching ball right now as UNC alums are like, come on man, we know. I'm sorry. We survive up there. They survived. That's all that matters. They got to the NCAA title game. I think he's so much. He was comfortable guarding Caleb love in RJ Davis out there. He was comfortable guarding perimeter players all season. Offense, it's going to be a project. And frankly, like I don't know if a Damian Lillard led Portland trailblazers team is going to want that project to be honest. Like, I just don't know what their direction is. Like, are they trying to contend now? Are they trying to rebuild on the fly by bringing back Josh Hart bringing back nurkic? Putting someone like Jeremy sohan in the middle of those guys and then letting them rock. I worry a little bit about the an for any simons and Damien Lillard backcourt. I think that Jeremy sohan switchability would really and his help defensive instincts would really help cover for that a little bit, assuming they bring back and for niece simons. I am a big fan. Yeah, I really just love Jeremy sohan quite a bit. And I know that the shot is going to take time. I know the offensive side is going to take time. We'll just have to see how it goes. And they do have that spot there at the four where he can slide in. And if they keep the pieces as they are and they don't make any other moves, I mean, he played a Baylor where guys were getting up shots, right? Like he'll be okay with dame Lorenz and free simons taking 22 shots each a game because he'll still make his impact felt as a slasher as a cutter as a scrambled guy with a rebound and going to the basket, defense he'll be all the floor. So I get that especially from a fit perspective. I had a few ticks lower, but I get it, I.

"All right, welcome in to another episode of the Goodman and humble podcast and we are joined by a special guest today, a guy I once called soft. I didn't call you directly soft Armando bake out, but I did call your team soccer back in November and now I'm eating my words. But I thought you guys changed. I thought, listen, to me, it was so much fun to watch you guys. I compare you to the Boston Celtics a little bit this year to be honest. And I live in Boston..

"For me files. You walked over to me and said, this thing is over. And I said, fine, I said, by the 8 minute mark, it's going to be a 5 point game. He goes. You want to bet? I said, don't want to bet. He goes 5 bucks. All we know is the people that have old coaches, the 5 bucks, wealthy. I gave it to my wife, said I don't take $5, 50. To me, the interesting thing was, like, Jay, you mentioned the contrast and staffs. And have some just, to me, it was almost riveting. You know, Armando bake got coming out and playing as we were watching him warm up. We were going to play wasn't going to play. Can he change directions? Can run the floor? And he was phenomenal in the first half. He had a double double in the first half and North Carolina controlled everything about that game in the first half. They took Kansas out of anything they wanted to do. They got to the offensive glass 18 to two on the glass. Just absolutely defended and took Kansas out of anything they wanted to do and then to see the second half, Kansas come out, score off the first play, which we always know, build stuff straight at. And then Kansas getting into doing what they do defensely, 14 points off turning 24 points in the pain. I mean, it was really just impressive. And then, you know, you were just how graceful he was in defeat, kind of moved me. I know Jay, I think you saw that little sound bite from his postgame. You weren't around in more than both the thoughts and myself. Is he like that all the time? Yes. I mean, the answer is yes. He is, he's one of the best human beings I've ever known. He has a wonderful balance as we've all talked about when talking about Hubert, a wonderful balance of being thoughtful and nice and empathetic. He's a man of faith and family, he's the nicest person you've ever met. And then when the competition starts, he's a cutthroat competitor. And those things are not mutually exclusive, but when the game was over, I think Seth, your point is so well taken that he was so graceful and the first thing he did when he talked to Tracy wolfson of CBS is congratulate and a heartfelt sincere congratulations to Kansas and their players and to Bill self. Because he really meant it. And then he moved on to his team and was like, he wasn't looking to apportion blame or anything like that. He's just got a great perspective. I would call it a great perspective on the game and on life. And he's a credit, you know, he's a credit to his universities, a credit to the game. And I'm just, honestly, I feel lucky to know him. You've known him for long while. You played against him, right? Sure. Both in college and in the league, yes. What I think of him, I just think, I think of, I think, of the grace that he handles everything with. And it was cool for me to see a guy who came in behind and icon and coach Roy Williams who had won so much brought his own style and in bringing his four out one style predicated on shooting. It didn't go so well early on and of course he's been majorly criticized and then all of a sudden to challenge this guys to take a stand and begin to compete and we saw that take place on the defensive end. He figured out how to use Brady mannik who I thought is the perfect compliment to Armando bay cod with his ability to be able to stretch the defense. Seth, you talked about this the other day. You put the ball in RJ Davis hands, which really freed Caleb love up to be a score. And so to just see how a new coach coming to an established tradition who failed a bit early and had everyone criticizing him to be able to bounce back and to continue to encourage his guys and to keep his guys positive and to, I mean, a team that we thought for a while said, we're learning to see if they were going to make it to the NCAA tournament. And not only to get there, but to get to the national championship game with an opportunity to win it with two minutes to go in the game, what an incredible job by huber Davis and he's going to continue to do so as we go forward. You don't want to get the one player that I think, you know, just reading some stuff and luckily some stuff. Caleb love had an incredible NCAA tournament and an amazing journey to the final four. And I said this morning a number of times. The shots he made against UCLA and the shots he made against duke. We're no different than the shots he took. Last night against Kansas. And you know, he's not moved by the bomb. You're not gonna always make those shots. And I say he takes tough guarded contested shots. And makes him, you know, my running joke is college guys take good shots and misin pros make them take bad shots and make them. He takes tough hard to test shots and make him, he didn't make them last night, but I still, I think people need to appreciate what he was able to do..

"In the same way that Pearl Jam named themselves Mookie blaylock. But then Armando Bangkok. Such a wonderful player. Duke has all the stars all the hype all the publicity and all of everything and they've got coach pay here and then North Carolina and the biggest Hubert Davis who are significant number of people there in North Carolina did not want Hubert Davis to be the coach for whatever reasons. And then all of a sudden he becomes the coach they struggle mildly. They get blown out early by Kentucky in the season. They're not playing in well, but then they find a way. And you got Armando bake out who's playing fantastic setting records out there. And then he just hurt with four or 5 minutes to go and then he fouls out. He comes back from the dead. I mean, this was Dan pastorini on steroids here. And so it all happening in a brilliant scene that his story is all right there and every time shuttle team scores, you think the game is over and then 30 seconds later it switches and it's just back and forth and back and forth. And in the super dome, which is like this monster's place, you know, you can fit 5 other stadiums inside the super dome and the fans were just everywhere there's so much anticipation and joy and angst and suffering and happiness and joy and it was all right there and then at the very end of the game chocolate teens are better than love makes a couple of brilliant offensive plays and North Carolina wins the game. And it's like you're writing this story. You're making the movie is all right there you're creating it and you think it's all scripted and somebody else comes in and writes the ending to it. Oh my gosh. What a game what a moment what is seen for the rest of my life rich I will be able to say that I was there. I was there and I saw it all and to see how happy all the winners were and to see how sad all the losers that's what makes our lives so great. Yes his sport, yes it's a platform yes it means so much to all of us and to have the fans right there and one of the things that goes on in these moments. At the highest level, you have to learn to embrace and love pressure and risk and doubt and uncertainty because you never know how these things are going to play out. I mean, it's like a bicycle ride. It's like going to a Grateful Dead concert. It's like life itself. You never know what's going to happen and you better be ready for every eventuality. And these guys is going to be tough as can be for North Carolina to come back from that. Because generally, what happens in these games is that the team that plays the best on Saturday night, which was Kansas. Kansas is on fire and no bacci is just lightens it up out there. David McCormick has never played better in his life. Everybody, Jalen Wilson, Christian Brown, Mitch lightfoot to one Harris. I mean, these guys were all playing great. The only guy that didn't play well for Kansas on Saturday night was Remy Martin, which is a good sign for Kansas 'cause he can come back now, he'll be on the edge. But generally who plays best on Saturday night does not play best on Monday nights. But the problem for North Carolina rich is that they put so much into that game and they were celebrating at the end of that game as if it was the championship. And you can not get back up for the championship until you come down. And hopefully they've been able to come down. Bangkok's injury is significant here. If I'm Bill Sel, if I'm Kansas, I just say, okay, look. The storyline is North Carolina because they just beat coach K and they just beat duke. And that was the whole deal coming in here. We can not look back. We can not hold back, they're going to be emotionally tired. Caleb love in RJ Davis, leafy black. They can play all day long. And never have any sort of problems physically. Brady manic and Armando bay tropics is ankle. They're not in that same situation here. So if you're Kansas, your mindset is we are going to run. And we are going to run and we are going to run. And we are not going to stop and that some point they're going to wear down. North Carolina does not have the depth. But the stars for Kansas, they have to bring it. And you can't come out. You don't get a championship I sort of like hanging around and hope. Hope that the other team is going to not get it done. If you're success is based on the failures of others, that's not what championships are all about. And also these guys from Kansas. And the historical ties in between these two schools in the backgrounds of these two states where Smith and John mcclendon, bob Mackie do who's got a son on the North Carolina team, and they got somebody named pop on the team. It's such a wonderful story for everything. I love underdogs. You know, I do not have a personal face. I love Kansas basketball. I love what Bill shelf does. I love the transition that she made from the plodding team to the up and down. Yeah, let's get going. Let's have, let's have tons of guys like Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan and all these guys who can really run and really flat will be in perfect condition. We're just going to push the pace all the time. And then the North Carolina tradition with all that remarkable players, Billy Cunningham, bob mcadoo, Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins, James worthy, all these legends and the champions and the coaches and the fact that Roy Williams from Asheville played North Carolina coached at Kansas coach to North Carolina. This game tonight, Bill self and Hubert Davis, this is the first time ever in the history of the championship game that the coaches are both successors of the same person. That's interesting. Who played at UNC played for Frank Maguire and Dean Smith coached at Kansas 5 years won their championship with Danny Manning and Danny's part of our Westwood one coverage. And it's just absolutely incredible. And Dean Smith, who was born in Kansas, died in North Carolina, played at Kansas for fall gallon. Won the NCAA championship in 1952 the year I was born. He was a coach. Just as a kid, you'd be before he goes to North Carolina. So this is just the harmonic.

"Players. And they're really, really good. They're an 8 seat because they sucked in November and December and January. So there are 8 C but for more than 6 weeks now they've been one of the best teams in the country. So, you know, facts are facts. If they win, they'll be just the second 8 seat ever to win a national championship. But the idea that this team has been anything close to an 8 seed level team for a significant amount of time now. That's just not. That's not reality. Yeah, and I'm on a big hub, by the way. I said, you'd have to cut my leg off for me not to play in this game. That was the other thing. When that happened, so you were on set in the building. What Adidas sent somebody to cut our Monday. You don't think Adidas would do that for Kansas? You think TJ gas no one's never cut a leg off? Instead of I need some real guys, it's I need some real sauce. Is that what this is now? I need some real sauce here. Gosh. What if Adidas was like, you know what? If we're going down, yo, oh, you think we committed felonies last time? Watch this. And they sent somebody to New Orleans to cut off our motto where it gets like. It'd be wild. That would be a big story. At least admit it would be a big story. Yeah, a little bit. If Armando's big, if I'm on a big house like it was cut off, buy it a dean of river. That might be an emergency podcast situation. I got to be honest. I just cut off by random, but it Adidas representative. Exactly. The fact that these planes awesome. What I was going to say was in the building, it felt like he wasn't coming back. On TV, did you get that sensor? Maybe yesterday me now. Well, here's the thing that didn't make sense in the game. Okay, there's 5 minutes to go, and they're like, oh, let's take it back to the locker room. You don't have to, at that point. It takes you 5 minutes to get back to the locker room. And you got to, you got to get a cup and pour your drink into a cup. Like a whole lot of things going on. But what if Armando bake I couldn't get back to the court because he had to pour his drink in a fish and see so ridiculous. Who's that less sleep right now? I thought it was me. So now it might be me. So listen, I've never been a trainer. I've never been trained. Either one, I've never been a trainer. But you are, but he is a doctor. But I am a doctor. So I like, I don't know what goes into this stuff. But at that point, I'm like, okay, Armando. There's 5 minutes left in the game. You can either play or you can't. Just let us know. But we walking all the way to the locker room. And by the way, if you can walk over the locker room, about just walk under the court, go get a rebound. So there was a part of me that was like, it was weird because for a minute, he couldn't put any weight on it for like 45 seconds. And the next thing you know, he's skipping around. I don't know what was happening, but it became clear when he was started. He went from not putting any weight on it to like walking around, you know, seemingly mostly comfortably, that he was going to come back in a game. But yeah, listen, they might not be able to be Kansas anyway, but they'd have a really hard time doing it without. Especially considering David McCormick is Shaquille O'Neal now. I know, man, how about that? Listen, a couple notes here on Kansas and when it's done since you brought it up. McCormick just tremendous. Tremendous. And that's, you know, we'll make our pick in a second here. We also got to talk the leaky black pick. We'll get there. But McCormick did was, you know, I'm not gonna call it phenomenal because Villanova was a shorthand and it was small team, but like just a huge, huge moment, talk to self about McCormick on headquarters after the win. They said, he's had moments like this, but I did ask him if he thought it was his best performance, you know, all things considered. He seemed to lose that it really might have been. But between that, ochi abaji, again, I don't know if I mentioned this hgh podcast. Everything's blending together. We'll talk about this more, especially with boon when we get closer to draft season. I need someone to convince me why I bought these in the top 20 NBA pick. I love this dude shot. Hold on, stop there. Who's telling you he's not? I thought like, you know, a few weeks back, he was like, back into the 20s and stuff. I think everybody's got him in the top 20. I need someone to tell me why no one's talking about jabbar Smith going to the top 5 of the NBA track right now. Somebody to explain why Ted holmgren's not a lottery pick. Exactly. I haven't checked him mocking in a few here. So if he stopped 20, then yeah. I thought there was buzz on that. Like he wasn't. No, he's a 6 5 athlete who can shoot. He's a top 20 pick. I agree. And the way that he played on Saturday was awesome. They didn't need to need a big performance at a Remy Martin. Jalen Wilson gave him just enough there. So if you're Kansas fan, you gotta love your spot. You're back in the title game. You're just, I get it, like if your KU fan, you're like, it's Carolina, but we've rated better the entire season. We've had all these great teams win all these big 12 titles. Can we just get, you know, first world problems on the hoop scene, but can we just, can we get another damn title, please? 'cause one of the ironic things is the fact that Kansas, it doesn't have as many national titles as UCLA or duke or Kentucky or Carolina or Indiana. NCAA turmoil doesn't have as many. It's got a really good shot here, we'll see if it can wind up pulling it off. I would expect the bay cop McCormick deal to maybe maybe cancel itself out just a little. Big cost has been phenomenal. I'm looking dumber by the hour after I said with Boone on the podcast was not a first team all American this year. I don't think if we had to vote right now to be tough to hold him off due to 30 double doubles. I voted him when we did our voting last like this past Monday. I voted him a third team all American. He was my first pick on the 13. And so he ended up on the 13th, but he's been amazing. McCormick thing is fabulous. By the way. It was awesome on Saturday. Pay cuts a better player. Yes, for sure. For sure, yes. Simple see how the offset each other,.

Here in 2020 2021. There they almost every way measurable and they are in completely different places, according to our colleagues here at ESPN that John Gassaway has Virginia as the only lock in the tournament from the A. C. C. North Carolina is in the work to do category. You look at the style of play. Carolina is not a good three point shooting team. In fact, they're on pace to have one of the worst three point shooting this there, the second lowest in history in this school's history of 32%. Via a terrific three point shooting team. They make almost nine threes a game and make two more than the opposition. Carolina tries to absolutely hammer you on the backboards. They have the second highest rebounding margin in the school's history of plus 11. It's really not how Virginia's wide although there are good rebounding team, Carolina does not turn the ball over much, and they do not allow a lot of points and Carolina would like this game. To be in the hundreds. If they could they want to make it goes fast as possible. Carolina's inside out. Virginia is kind of inside out in the sense their scores of their front court guys, but they are shooters. These guys can fill it up so every way possible. This is a contrast there's no question is these two get together and Virginia tries to keep this impressive winning streak They got going against the heels. No doubt they have now beat the heels from six straight. North Carolina lied the whole time. Syriza's pretty lopsided 1 31 to 59 but again six straight for Virginia over Carolina, including a pair of games. Last year. Carolina Let's get you their starters in for head coach Roy Williams, who's three wins shy now of 900 for his career will start with the forwards Garrison Brooks averaging double figures on the season. 6 10 senior out of Lafayette, Alabama. Armando Baked cod is a 12.1 points per ballgame. And then the guards, you know, leaky black. He's now a junior. For the Tar Heels Kerwin Walton on the scene. Now as a freshman, he is nine of 15 43 pointers in his last three games, and then Caleb Love rounds out there. Starting 56 FT four freshmen A star from ST Louis, Missouri. We talked about the contrast, One of the other contrast is somebody freshman Carolina plays and they're relying on a freshman point guard right now, Caleb Love who's really coming into his own. He had four threes, 25 points and seven assists. The first ever play in Carolina history to have 25 7 in the wind against Duke, and they are going to rely on their freshman and certainly the Caleb Global leads them and steals, leads them in assists averages, 11 points a game. You're going to look need a big afternoon or evening out of him. Virginia's 14 and three and Here are the starters for head coach. Tony Bennett, the three guard look here features key. Hey, Clark at the point Re Speakman, the freshman from Baton Rouge of the two and then on the wing is Trey Murphy there, sharpshooter. 6 FT. Nine out of Durham, North Carolina, J. Huff has been outstanding. Also a long range bomber. It's 7 ft. One. That's something that is always fun to watch. And then they're starting five is rounded out by the transfer from Marquette. Sam Houser from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. 6, FT eight Senior has been dynamite here of late, although a little dip in his game the last time out, But overall, Sam Houser Bobby, one of your favorite guys, Yeah, I love him the efficiency with which he plays and he didn't score a lot of points that Georgia Tech game. The wind they had wasn't a high scoring game to begin with. 57 49. But he had he was. He was very instrumental in how they ran. Their offense had a season high in assists in that game, and the last game you and I did with Virginia against Pitt when they beat Pitt 73 66. He made in that excuse me, eight field goals and three of them with three pointers. He wound up just the leading scorer and I don't think he touched the ball. But maybe 12 13 times in the game. You talk about offensive efficiency. That's what Virginia does when they're playing well, they don't play fast. Everybody in America knows that yet they're averaging over 70 points a game they had 73 that day. He could score around the basket. He shoots little fade away's. He's a terrific three point shooter. He's their leader and rebounders. He is bringing the whole package. This UV a team and I expect he'll do the same. Against this big front line for Carolina. Here. We have to take them away from the basket and use his shooting ability. But he certainly is capable of doing that. Putting the wall to the floor and going around these big guys for Carolina, which is gonna be, I think a key for Virginia. In the matchup any other keys today before we throw the ball in the air, Bob Well, I mean, you look at Virginia nine and one when they score at least 70 points. I think that's a big deal. But this may be even more telling one They are 10 in one when they out rebound, their opponent. They're just three and two, and they get out rebounded there when the opponents out, rebound them, and that is Carolina's game. Carolina, as I said, plus 11 and rebounds Said, and the last game that Carolina plating in stupid they scored 27 fast break points and 28 2nd chance points. Those are two things that Tony Bennett is absolutely adamant. They are not going to give a fast breaks. They're not gonna let you get to the glass. So.

Will you and Big God stepped out about so if you don't call the foul that it's gonna be a turnover. But on the previous possession, Matthew hurt, made a baseline cut and he actually came from out of bounds did not get reestablished Got the basketball was able to finish. But regardless, that's in the past. And right now, Matthew heard is on the bench with the five files, so the blocking foul call that's gonna send baked cod to the free throw line, And this will be a one and one for Armando baked cod. Hey, conscious, miss a couple of free throws a moment ago 65% of the season we mentioned Carolina. Four of 12 was a team they cuts free throw is good and learn the bonus here. Wiki Black back in for Carolina, Harris will sit Roy Williams happy to see Anthony Harris back and playing. Most of last year with a knee injury. "That was good. Scrambled defensively by scramble. I mean, you got mixed up, You've got switched up. You've got a guard on the big big on a guard, but they scrambled out really well to contest that shot and get the rebound. Love troubles over on the left side puts up a runner misted short, tipped up and off. No good inside by bay Kat fighting for the rebound, Big shot trying to save it couldn't do what he stepped on the baseline. We'll go back to do with 5 45 to go not to hurt. Got put in a bad spot there with four fouls, Armando bake got close to the rim. You have to contest you can't give anything easy here down the stretch, he was able to contest without fouling and force Armando Bake out out of bounds. Inbounds pass the gold wire. It looks like the Duke bench as he watched the dribble ahead towards mid court. Melting down in the stands waiting for gold wire right at that Duke logo. Wire crosses into the front court, throwing up top to hurt left side. Two more now beyond New York More touched the ball in his right hip dribbles right, turn to the free throw line. Get it out Gold wire on the right wing rebels into the paint inside the logo cycling team or right quarter three ball. It's good, great ball movement. That time by Duke Mork capitalizes with a three time out taken by the Blue Devils with 5 22 to go North Carolina's North Carolina leaders to 77 75. You've got to think of your coach K. We're gonna see a lot of Jordan Gold wire. We're gonna see a lot of windows. Or why? Because those are two guys you trust. They understand that the brevity of this matchup. They understand what it takes to be emotionally locked in down the stretch and make the place that you need to make to you to win this basketball game. Those two guys, you trust with the ball, their hands. DJ Stuart and Jeremy Roach have struggled to take care of the basketball make good decisions here in the second half. Meanwhile, for North Carolina, we talk about the advantage they have inside. But John if they're not going to capitalize on the free throw line that's going to cost them. Big time is closing 5.5 hands. We joke about it. We always say, Well, you get the wrong guys going to the free throw line. That's what happens right now. North Carolina 33% from the free throw line. Hard to imagine you shoot 55% from the field 69% from three at 33% from the free throw line. Incredible numbers makes me feel as if you have the foul. If you're going to give up easy layup, it just can't be a foul. Matthew hurt. Who's got four fouls? Brooks will inbound in the backcourt. He'll toss it into love. Love brings the trouble ahead. Crosses into the front court. Well, will make the past a baked cod poked away briefly by Coleman. But a cot maintains possession of top. The Brooks looks left goes right, the wolf I don't believe it for love out front between the circles. Love backs up near mid court, pounded out of the left hand works left off a brook screen onto the wing. Love's gonna take the three ball in the wing side of the room short. Anthony Harris flies in for the Carolina rebound, double teamed underneath, dribbles out of it and then dribbled it right off his foot and out of bounds. That was actually a foul on Duke That was not called. You've got to wonder if official.

At that point, they have the advantage because Carolina just has remarkable size. That foul was against Matthew hurt, so he picks up his third. Sharpen the free throw line will use over two in the ball game, and he rattles that one down. This is where it experienced team typically experienced team will go right at Matthew hurt. They'll understand this is a guy that has 3000. It's a lot easier to cover Duke if Matthew hurts on the bench. Sharp with one more free throw. Leave it over on the wing For Johnson Johnson looking finds a cutting more got the ball knocked away, grabs it back just off the right block. We're going to shovel it back out to Johnson. He'll take the three ball and it's good over top of Brooks and Duke is within 3 67 64 is Johnson. It's another triple and Harrison Brooks needs to be better on the defensive end in terms of showing high hands. He's got the size advantage, but he did not show Hi hands, which was an easy shot for Jalen Johnson. Here's Brooks with it on the left wing Skip past goes high, right. The Black didn't want the three puts it on the deck backs up the dribble now against Baker. Left sided Davis looking into Brooks. They bounced down to him off the left block. There's no let up in terms of the size that could come off the bench. The depth of the front court for North Carolina is As advertised gold wire bouncing into Coleman get it up on the wing to Stuart. Drilling rights. Keep it down in the right corner for Roach makes the catch back out front. Stuart Trouble's into the paint, throws it low for Colin and baked hot sticks his right hand in there and comes up with a steal handed off Davis Davis, dribbling down the right side beyond New York works his way left nearly fell over gets it inside the Brooks. He loses it all loose on the floor, scooped up by a cot. He's fouled going up. And Big Kat is going to go to the free throw line. A scramble situation. Bake up found the loose change, and now he'll have a chance for two free throws. The foul was against Stewart and these two turnovers. "All right, John. As we look forward to the second half what do you look for here for Carolina to try to hang on and do try toe come back and get the win. First and foremost, it comes down to whoever can take care of the back. Basketball may win this game. That's really what this could come down to. Because neither offense got it going consistently. They got it going. At times, Carolina did not dominate the paint 14 12 and points in the paint dukes down to I take that as a winner from the Blue Devils. So Carolina was not able to dominate what they usually dominate. It comes down to taking care of the basketball. If you can't take care of the basketball for Carolina, you can't play to your strength. For Duke Duke it withstand some turnovers a little bit more because they may have more possessions. Carolina needs to feed the basketball and to be able to do that, feeding inside. To be able do that You have to take care of the ball. Matthew heard who was second in the A. C. C in scoring almost 19 points, perhaps did not score in that first half all kinds of foul trouble. And yet again if you're Duke, and you have that, and you're only down two Can't really complain if you're much shift. Yeah, and in a way, you're gonna live with that because he's not gonna get anything inside. He just doesn't have that advantage. Nor is he going to attack that down in the paint. He's gonna get his around the perimeter. I would look to play through him or at the perimeter very similar to what Clemson does with the mere since he's a good passer. He's a good score. He clearly can shoot it. Put those bigs for Carolina in a bad situation where you gotta cover a great basketball player, 25 ft out. Meanwhile, for Carolina, Leaky Black is not someone they depend on to score. But he is a veteran in this line of he had three How's that cost him a lot of minutes of the first day. They just need to find stability. Caleb loves but very good. Walton's been good from the perimeter, but they have to get play to your strengths. Once you start to dominate the basketball game inside, the outside's gonna get a lot easier. It'll be Carolina ball to start the second half Black baked cod, love Walton and Brooks. Carolina will be moving from left to right for Duke. It is hurt, Stuart Roach. War and Williams Love with it out front, Leaving from left to right gets into the paint leans on.
