"Coaching a pandemic, It's not been the weirdest year ever. Yeah, it's just not fair now again, I don't think they have enough Talent right now either right? I don't think they have enough talent, but I don't know if like I hear what you're saying. Armaan. Franklin is a good player. He is Alan Durham on certain nights is a good player Rob phinisee. I think has the talent to be a good player and used to be a good player. Yeah, you know, like I think that solid they're solid Rod, but they don't have a special a jeans but like they haven't developed, you know, and I guess who does that fall that falls in, New Jersey? I would say this when you look at tell again if your ranking Indiana in terms of talent in the big tent. Where do they rank? That's what that's how I asked you the question. Where do they rank behind Michigan? Obviously behind Illinois behind Iowa Purdue off to Stalin compared to Indiana. So what do you do young Talent is really ahead of Indiana. Yes, and well, I mean, I guess trayveon Williams and and trayce Jackson Davis birth wash. I would probably go out of state, Ohio State's more talented. Wisconsin it's a wash but Johnson is equally as talented as Indiana around that. Yeah, I would agree. So like I I mean maybe they're middle of the road there on a conference can't be that if you're Indiana, that's true can't be that I mean, unfortunately the expectations are and they're not wrong like again I said it the other day, like if you're Indiana fan you're saying like we should be in the tournament four out of every five years. Yeah. I think that I mean, I'm not saying that it's 1980s by oh well, but they they should be going to the tournament most years and maybe if you're rebuilding every fifth or six year exactly exactly, but I do think that there's a good amount of their fan base that thinks that it's still should be, you know, eighties in the bath. Yeah, that that's just not delusional that's not the case like the state gets rated talent-wise by so many different people all those kids aren't going to India anymore. They used to get almost every month. And I think Purdue kind of got the second-tier and coached NGK just coached them up and and whatnot. But and like there's exceptions of that. Glenn Robinson was not second-tier instead of in a table via SLI. Yeah, he was pretty good. But yeah, that's it's not it's not babies anymore. And I think they have a hard time some of their fans come to terms of that bracket Fanatics is your One-Stop site for the NCAA tournament in 2021 bracket. FedEx is the only social app that can manage your bracket.

Alan Durham Glenn Robinson Rob phinisee Armaan Johnson New Jersey India 1980s second-tier 2021 Franklin trayveon Williams six year trayce Jackson Davis Stalin Wisconsin Rod fifth NCAA NGK

Franklin's final shot sends Indiana past No. 8 Iowa 67-65

"Armaan Franklin hit a fifteen footer with one point eight seconds left to give Indiana sixty seven sixty five victory and a season sweep of a Frank dialogue Lucas stepped out a little bit got going down hill and saw him lean in his step back and just let it go you know my team is at all to me confidence in me does that sound to me to get the ball in that moment you know and just pay it off trayce Jackson Davis finished with seventeen points and twelve rebounds for the Hoosiers who stopped a two game skid and handed the Hawkeyes their fourth loss in five games I will open the second half on a fourteen to run to take a forty five thirty five lead and was ahead fifty three forty eight was seven twenty five left Luka Garza scored sixteen of his eighteen points in the second half for Iowa I'm the ferry

"You have read Jones peaks dot com the superstar all right so let's talk about the most recent signee for the Hoosiers long login don't come with any low I'm messing up this poor kid's name tell me about this kit lower done good now you got it you got it Logan Duncan six foot nine o'clock to twenty twenty one center place for Cincinnati Moeller one unbeaten state championship last year our team was twenty six and one wow this year at the time things were shut down I'm actually one of the big state championship I was a freshman but Moeller freshmen don't play on the court there was a part of that but they basically since he's been in high school and be not being twenty six of one so equitably successful he's got a really good really good blank use a lot longer than your average center these days this rebounder terrific motor really goes up and down the court you know it's funny several of the stories he would tell you can tell somebody about competitive makeup they were last year when his plane with Indiana lead out there no way there were a couple times I threw up his hands are up and get ready to go for a rebound and he did land cruise on teammates look like they're about I'm going to give it so you've got the ability to score inside with both hands you can turn over right shoulders he's really natural in the post is going to have really good field starting to develop some perimeter shooting so again just come out of his junior year of high school so I think in time you'll see him hit some perimeter shots as well but he's definitely right now he's a he's a true old school center who knows he's a center really knows how to read out very aggressive did nonstop motor that he got a big time sprinter like a coatings valor but motorists bars when he's out there he's going from art the whole time he'll give you points inside not a bad pass around the post either so Agee's basically he's going to be Indiana's big man of the future whatever joy proctor trajectory Davis arrives are gone right right you know what they have done it you we talked last week or the week before do you think they still have one scholarship to offer is that the plan as far as you know it can login to twenty twenty one kid so as far as the twenty twenty class code it Christian lander does reclassify to twenty twenty class meaning he would be rolled out you this fall they're full on scholarships they would they will have all thirteen field now if somebody transfers or if Christian lander changes his mind twenty one twenty one class you know you have a scholarship but as of right now that again Christian leader is working on the academic credit he has been a bright to begin twenty twenty that's the plan that's the direction it's going so I would say right now they're most likely that but you never mean we're still seeing guys announced they're gonna transfer yeah so you never know why well I know that next couple months not at all all right so Mister basketball three straight years straight Galloway Kristin lander may be give me your assessment this seems to me to be a class I like this class dresses you think one of the areas that they have a deficiency in and that's an ability to knock down jump shots on a consistent basis so but add the gin there three for three on that Mr basketballs which is an impressive feat I'm always impressed too it's just crazy to me that Indiana had never done that before I'm a I'm with you on that I do I was looking through the list but you know it's the season went along you realize it ain't new electric you know it's probably gonna win Mr basketball students ended up with three in a row and I remember the first time I went through the list I thought I have to be misreading this I went there to get no then we got more than two in a row so I actually took it and I highlighted it just to make sure I wasn't you know visually just like this right there are disclosed I just thought I was very surprised that I you would never got three consecutive Indiana Mr basketballs and then I think they're gonna have a chance for even a Christian leader goes twenty twenty you may get try Kaufman I think next year Kaufman certainly going to be one of one of the top contenders okay burst like west of south bend Riley guys of that nature are probably gonna be the headliners yeah the class of twenty twenty interview we'll blow into South Street Galloway export article Rick at a meet Jordan's Ron about big time six with six athletes out of Saint Paul school up in Concord New Hampshire so they get a mix of shooting toughness defense and athleticism and I think it helps give the ball handling in perimeter defense moving forward which I thought the last couple years maybe not this year but the put the previous year I thought they were won at least one short back court and I think they sort of help to remedy that situation they and they've got some guys you know Anthony Leo was forty percent three point shooters you know be able to help with perimeter shooting more moving forward Terry Galloway played point guard this year for his team so he's going to be able to give you an additional ball handler in addition to terrific defense I I thought you could make an argument that he was the best perimeter defender in the state this year and then Jordan Iran about six foot six I'm incredibly athletic out there no late July the chase down block on popping off the top of the square I I didn't think I could get to the guy going to give up their posit up top right like we okay all right although those are the key things that third that Indiana's getting with the twenty twenty class and then obviously it's question later in there he's technically twenty twenty one you'll be actually enrolled but you throw him in there to get a five star point guard you get your point guard of the future we didn't then you've really got things you know moving in the right direction you add login don't come you're looking at okay you got your point guard the future he gets a post player the future yet to really really good building blocks of the future in addition to guys like Anthony we'll try to get away your drawn about and some of the younger guys who are already on the roster Armaan Franklin employers of that nature so the question is if you're looking at it from a coaching standpoint he used to sit there and tell my guys that as a coach I have to make two hundred minutes at my disposal the decisions I have to make regarding two hundred minutes and who gets those two hundred minutes and looking at guys you're talking about and knowing the people they have coming back who's minutes go DM is gonna get interesting to see who gets minutes in who makes significant contributions to this group definitely definitely and I think you know if the personal interest there I I think you definitely place you don't bring in a five star right guard to you know I think with his speed his vision that speed his ability to make that they make shots I think you definitely have to put some certainly utility green's minutes so there are some they're you know they're just kind of like you know there to be had right transaction date was back Justin Smith is back Alburnus bankrupted issues correct code once it's in your arm on Franklin from others you know take the next seven guys are are all back so I think you're gonna see some guys maybe in the back court maybe share a little more minutes the Christian Atlanta's gonna have to earn the minute he's not just gonna be hand in hand at the minute but when when you're a five star guy who has those kinds of skills that kind of athleticism you're going to get some minutes so I don't think you're gonna see you know a little bit different in the back court and I also think I used to be at the point they can play a little smaller they want to know robin is the trend that rob is a Christian landers even though they're both listed as point guard they can play together because both that can make shots a book that can actually play off the ball I think leaders a little more skilled off the ball good for the city but you can play those two guys together actuation why you place those two guys together or one of them along with maybe al Durham and Armaan Franklin and then maybe they could go small on the front court maybe John hunter and and it's a trace Jackson Davis but then I've also got the option they can go bigger you know you go with race Thompson enjoyed rock interest on the front line or some combination thereof withdrawals under their location shooting so I think what happens next year is they've got the option of playing some different styles were this past year we really had to win on the board they really had to be pretty proficient inside to have a chance to win outside of a couple games like Florida state would want to bring people up from three now I think to give them a little more flexibility and you know sometimes things get really caught up at who start to start his I understand that but as you know from coaching sometimes it's which group really has become right at night right yeah and so I think I used that they have a lot more versatility now with different groups you can play smaller you can actually play three guards I don't know if they will or not can.

"Normally don't search for words but somewhat frustrated because yours is a frenetic pace you or good guy who loves to jump in his car and drive five hours to go watch a complete day of AAU basketball and then turn around and jump race car drive five hours the next day and go see some more A. A. U. basketball so this restriction on travel so to speak is probably not going well for you yeah it's interesting it's instead of going along to games watching practices you spending time on the phone he's putting time you're spending time on Facebook what have you you know Skype talking players talking to junior college coaches so it's definitely probably different mechanism because normally you're you're in the clear whether it be for right CD games whether it be for actual practices and and then as you know some of the better you teams this spring you know they'll have a Saturday or Sunday or they have bring everybody together in the last year fifteen sixteen seventeen youth teams are practicing does he watch a lot of guys at one point time and now you know you can't do that so if there's a lot of just communication on the internet you know and but it is definitely better it's definitely very good it's a different mechanism on is a very different spring obviously for for for a lot of people but certainly in the sports world is something none of us have ever seen both Singapore that's right you'll be pleased to know I made my first appearance on soon this afternoon I thought I thought that was good and you know what I'm going to I have not done that with my classes are you P. you why I've just communicated via email but I've decided now you know what I'm gonna bring it would have some fun so I could see everybody's faces and have a little bit of fun that that's me coming up next week I'm excited about it good deal you know world do we now we were all in this together as the phrase goes but we have yes we are all trying to figure out how how to how to make this work all right so Hoosiers going to figure out how about this is a Segway or the Hoosiers going to figure out how to make it work for their basketball team next year I think it's going to be really interesting from the standpoint of now you have more guys who have multiple years of experience in the same system certainly you've got a point guard route then as the year goes from sophomore junior well you got a guy who's a couple guys were kind of coming only from under redshirt freshman but really he redshirted because you know he had a medical conditions or do you practice it really was a true freshman basketball standpoint last year he now runs a sophomore I think everybody's on and start to make shots later in the year yes response and start to come on yes you are going to have good moments here and there can still hire state against Michigan state you know Armaan Franklin started early in the year he was terrific against Notre Dame crossroads classic but you know he was a freshman in the fall good moments and you also saw a compression we which is part of it I think it's also interesting that you know there's a legitimate chance that five star point guard Christian lander reclassified and he becomes you know and and I you freshman next fall so that'll be another ball handler of the shooter yes still a freshman but a very very good freshman so I think it's going to be a team that has a little more ball handling has a little more shooting and again when you look at guys like Jerome hunter race Thompson Armaan Franklin even wrapped in the seat get more younger guys who are going to be going into either year two or year three and I think that that's going to help them have a little better year next year you know it's it's hard sometimes to understand consistency or lack of consistency Anna it's puzzling for this group in there this stretches in games and and stretches with the in games where they were just literally not be able to shoot the ball against anybody yeah I mean obviously adding anybody who watched them you would say their number one issue was you know making shots from three and I think that I don't think it takes a lot of mental heavy lifting to figure that part out they have some guys got a little better if you look at last ten games last twelve games for guys like when is your guys like from honor you know the numbers were a little bit better which only sent to yeah improvement has happened to be you know better next year when you look at a guy like out there you know who shot under thirty percent from three get freshmen and then got that up into the thirties and up into the high thirties you look at him figure okay you know you can have a chance to probably be you know maybe even a little better next year but certainly making shots from distance I think is the number one thing that Indiana has to be better at next season all right can you hang on I know you're a busy man but I need you to hang on because of you I'm happy to do it well I appreciate that very much peaks dot com go there if you're not already there go there and read Geoff Brabham jobs great work and we're following you at J. "I'd be old it's premature to cancel our spring sports tournament series right now because I think it's way too far away we don't start our spring sport tournaments until may the only thing going on officially gymnastics state finals tomorrow afternoon at ball state in Muncie beginning at one PM but fans are not allowed to attend with network Indiana sports I'm rob Condit's welcome back everyone Tom brew from Sports Illustrated Indian rejoins us right Tom Bobby sweet season over looking ahead for are you basketball the you talk about the improvement that they made and how when at times played very well what C. anticipation or expectation for next year's addition I think a lot of it is still kind of changes a little bit on whether or not Christian lander decides to to move up his his time frame here you have because I think that's sort of changes the dynamic of point guard a little bit I think Trey Galloway and ancillary al or going to be able to help this freshman in a lot of ways so I mean they are both very athletic very quick when guys you can get up and down the floor and I think you know Archie Miller would like to run and you have transition baskets as much as you can and you guys are capable of doing that they're very they're you know they're very under rated defender stupidly got real quick hands and quick feet making guard people and I like it I think no they're blowing I think give me out of the the book the biggest Claudia had on people but this year I thought putting pressure on the ball on the perimeter and I can help with that thanks no no obstinacy no was hurt for so long at the beginning of October right he was never the same you know and he's probably close to a hundred percent now but he never really had that we that long stretch of feeling good feeling healthy I think he's a great he's obviously a great kid but I think he's a very good player too right I think we'll come back and have a great year I think trace Jackson Davis is already told me he's coming back will be to me could very well be the big ten player of the year next year and I think he'll be able to be as he will be allowed to do more I think he cute cried you make sure that he didn't put too much on his plate this year he was still there leading scorer leading rebounder and shot blocker you know and you know I think next year will be a star I mean I really do and it's a you know in a lot of that you know you you know who really when you look back at the season when they sort of you know what leads slip away late November four games I mean if you look at that right now they're twenty and twelve right now if they just sealed the deal on those games that they should all be it's not ever you know you know I'm never I'm never that guy this is the team should have wanted there was a back and forth game the whole way and somebody else beat them but when you have a seven point lead with a minute ago you should do it when you have an eight point lead against Arkansas the men have to go you should win you know it's right for those games that they really should have won yelling if this if we're talking about a twenty four in eighteen right now yeah that would be a team that would have been the three or four seed in the big ten tournament they'd be a four five speed in the NCWTS it would have been that good no it is so I I think it's their opponents there's no there there are hard to figure out issues with this team though I like to meet like I've I've never been able to figure out Justin Smith you know and I watched him you know for a couple years I've watched him this year but I just think he's got he's got what I think is a is a very high talent level but he's more of an athlete and he is a basketball player in my opinion you know he's he's not the greatest of shooters which you know you need to be and use nobody guards people really well in the mail and but he just he said tends to get lost in game sometimes and the only in case you great but when he's not he doesn't contribute much since you know it's always hard for me to figure out this year with him but you know what he's been doing he's been really good you know and then you have young guys like Jerome hunter who's really now was a true freshman this year who showed some bridges showed some flashes that Armaan Franklin the I will surely can't play every game and bankers life many just like the whole well hi there no one knows who somebody was joking after the game is yet because I was the the Notre Dame game was basking in the year in that was you know it as bankers lies in the ability of the three corner when it many course you played great against Nebraska's leading scorer scored thirteen somebody was joking he'll be a better place certainly will be a Hoosier because there's the building you know but you know but maybe he's just comfortable there who knows but you know I I I really do think he's going to be a really good player for India to salute Sir so is you know just say but it's just a shame well here we are March thirteenth or having to talk about next year already it just doesn't seem right right Hey Tom quote through other segment or I will excuse me John will come back we'll talk about more basketball Tom bird from Sports Illustrated in the end.

"Proud sponsor of Indiana University athletics a quick look at the final statistics tonight they're delivered to you by fed ex as a you just heard trayce Jackson Davis with his twelfth double double of the season eleven points seventeen rebounds helping in together this victory tonight four other players scored in double figures they were led by Armaan Franklin the freshman from cathedral high school here in Indianapolis comes out and has another big ball game tied his second best effort of the season with thirteen eight points and eight rebounds three assist in this contest he just played terrific he took three charges as well in this ball game twelve points for Justin Smith tonight he played solid basketball throughout trayce Jackson Davis is retold you eleven and seventeen he and al Durham also knocked in eleven points in this ballgame this evening how about Robert S. C. for the second straight game gets his seven assists he had one turnover in this game so fourteen assists to one turnover in the last two games it's amazing and he has much better when those guards don not only rob Finnerty but everybody is playing really well distributing basketball taken care of and rob was no exception or not he was fabulous in the other ones the rebounding forty seven of thirty eight the shooting fifty three percent to thirty percent for Nebraska Indiana knocked down nine of twenty two from the three point line that's forty one percent they only hit however ten out of seventeen free throws tonight for fifty nine percent that continues to be a bit of an Achilles heel for this ballclub impresses research up thirty percent from the field twenty seven percent from the three point line seventy percent of the stripe fourteen of twenty in this ball game for Nebraska the Hoosiers win every category from points off turnovers page second chance points fast break points and bench points and probably the one who marquee number there would be the pain points forty to twenty four over breast in that category also the bench tonight thirty eight points for the badge that so one of the better efforts of the season in that department as well and for Nebraska tonight their leading scorer was Kevin cross the freshman had twenty three points in this game and nine rebounds he led them in both departments there he played exceptionally well also in double figures hi Dave Cheatham was seventeen and fifteen for juror very green so the Hoosiers with a nineteen to three run at one point take control of this basketball game but obviously that was a big story tonight our final stance.

"The Nebraska Cornhuskers to advance to the second round of the big ten tournament and will face Penn state tomorrow night if in fact there his a game to be played that said we have to wait to see what the big ten decides to do here because as we all know by now the NBA or suspended the season for the NBA and if that happens to the NBA and the NC double a announced earlier there would be no crowd the big ten's and that's the same thing now maybe the whole thing and so now the current policy right now I believe for the big ten is to play the games we just have no fans in the arena so it would be only essential personnel only the players the coaches and media for the game so that that's where we stand now but as you mentioned I I would not doubt here or something changes drastically not only from the big ten but the NC double a ages theme seems like this is snowballing pretty quickly right now and entities organizations are the very conservative decision to make sure that that no one else gets infected then that means to cancel games to the NBA's on that my guess would be that the NC double a would make some sort of change or move forward as well well the postgame show of course is brought you by community cars dot com community cars dot com with over eight hundred vehicles all in one place and Mike Roberts has joined us here in the post game show his comments are brought you by the friendly guys at royal on the east side my god he's the big win for the city of all clubs right he has a huge when you know obviously anytime you're in a tournament setting the first one is usually the hardest in my opinion and you know we came out not garden really well but I think we rallied in Hey everyone this time here's a big wins over four please with it without question you've got some really good performances for a number of different people tonight in fact the one that had played much lately Armaan Franklin in Armand's guide it you know he's shown his ability throughout the season obviously played heavy minutes early in the season and we've always felt that he had that ability to sometimes probably based upon him have unlimited minutes he gets in there maybe try to do too much but I thought tonight for the most part he's always been pretty solid on the the last ten games or so during his limited minutes but he made a lot of simple plays and then obviously you know you've got some rhythm and got going to make some open shots as well whenever a monthly simple on offense usually takes care of itself might talk a little bit about trace Jackson Davis in this game tonight he's been a little gimpy of late and still he is performing quite well yeah he is you know leading up to this game is the first time that he's been pretty much full go in practice and not as heavy with Jimmy G. on treatment things of that nature so he looks like he's had a lot more pop in his legs and movement because of it a lot better last day so we kind of expected him to have a little bit more pop tonight it looks like you did you had a couple walls in the ballgame in Nebraska got back into a kind of the first half they took the lead actually a couple of times and then in the second half you had a big lead twenty one and they came back again and got it to a ten point yeah you know we were really disappointed in that you know like I said we're up twenty one they cut all the way down to ten and it was said that time outside there's no more important four minute segment we call Morris you know ward in this war we got a win in the kids responded and made some good plays and got rolling Michael what what was the mentality coming in with this basketball team and and what is it been like I think in the last maybe almost a month now with this team what what is it looks like a different mind set for March you know we we feel like since the Michigan game obviously perform really poorly the mission game it is what it is but since then even though the results have always been what we wanted we thought we played the right way to take care of the ball better we played more defensive intensity and now we didn't do that for forty tonight but I think our collective team will on our cohesiveness and ability to play together has been good enough every game since Michigan to have a chance to win the game hopefully we can build on that obviously bottom line is that this time here you win or go home whatever German urine well there may not be anymore Turner but either because I don't know if you've heard this but the NBA suspended their season tonight yeah I just heard that you know I mean obviously I'm just a basketball coach I'm not a medical experts so it's obvious that it's a really serious issue on whatever the recommendations of the professionals are that's of the following that's what it is if there's a game tomorrow night for Indiana you play Penn state a team that you split with this year yeah you know the first time we played at the Penn state we got dominated that's pretty much the truth you know they out played us all across the board we actually garden December off it's horrible and a lot of live ball turnovers obviously a home we came out kind of jumped on them and then obviously they rallied back and took the lead and then with that we were able to finish it so you know I I think we match up well with them we got a lot of spec for them I think they have respect for us from place to be a good battle looking forward to it mica your for years first season back in Indiana as a basketball coach what's the first year but like for you it's been great you know obviously we're hoping that we can do what we need to do to get this into a tournament it's about wins and the ducks in but it's been a dream come true to be back in great for my family and I'm so we can keep playing some games here.

"You are listening to the assembly call. We are wrapping up another week talking. I you basketball. I'm Jared Morris. I'm here with antibodies and Ryan Phillips ever. Gonna get your questions here. What we typically do in our four segment and just a second. But I do wanna hit this real quick. Andy, the schedule the full schedule was released a couple of weeks back, but earlier on Thursday, Indiana released the schedule with some of the tip time, some of the TV information. So I just want to hit a couple of highlights there and see what kind of sticks out to you number one day. And that's the Hoosier hysteria will begin at four o'clock eastern time on September twenty ninth. So a little bit early, we of course, will have a post Hoosier hysteria event just like we did last year, and I think you'll be hosting that I will be at Hoosier hysteria. So if you're going to be there, definitely send me a tweet at assembly call. Let me know would love to meet up with as many audience members as possible while I'm there. So we know the time on that. The first thing that I looked at of course how many nine o'clock. Do we have because when you do a post game show, it's always nice to know what are going to be really late nights. Five nine o'clock starts that that sounds about like what we had last year. Nine o'clock eastern starts. I think zen include included nine thirty game. Yes, that doesn't clued. The nine thirty do game. So five starts of nine o'clock eastern or later. Yeah, I you know. I'm totally. I'm totally fine with with nine eastern starts. Totally fine. I don't get what you guys complain about. Shut up. Does does. End with Ryan complaining about how hungry he is. When we log off the post game show, Andy will be half say that now, but you know, and you'll be two hours from having to leave for work and Ryan just still chill and just got home. So we've got that Indiana's going appear on the big ten network ten times, and then we've got six times each on one and ESPN and then a few other games on FOX and CBS all of that stuff pretty standard. The other thing that people always look for with this stuff is, will there be games on BT and plus? Yes, you will have to pony up for the BT and plus. Xtra account this year. Hoosier hysteria will be on BT and plus than Andy, what did we decide? It's one exhibition game and then just one regular season game? Yes. Yes. Looks like. Yeah, so probably people will if you're going to manage this appropriately, probably wanna because you can do it monthly. I think he'd take a month for hoosiers Steria then cancel it then do another month that would pick you up the games on the exhibition game on number. I and the UC Davis game on November twenty third. So they're trying to steal that month of October, aren't they? Don't let it let. Yeah, don't don't be lax. We're here to save you money. This is like one of those on your side reports in your evening news. Don't let them take that ten dollars from me for that extra months. That's right plan appropriately. That is, you can watch soccer. I think I did that last year. I use it to watch soccer in between where I might not have normally been able to watch. So if you're going to keep it at least make good use of it during that time. Yes. And then we are still awaiting start times television info, four Marquette, and Arkansas. And then obviously there's some big ten games later in the season that we don't know exactly when the time will be. But for the most part, the I use schedule now ready to be put into your calendars with Dave. It's and times for most games and we can start planning the meet up most importantly. So yes, we can. Yes, we can and we will. We will start talking about that. All right. So let's get to some of these questions. Let's see. So we had this question from Jeff. So he said, can you create clarity on player rankings? So for example, on Franklin individually is actually rated higher than Robert finish and Dmitry Anderson were last year. He would have been the third highest recruit in this year's class twenty eighteen class based on his individual rating. Point nine, four however, are getting spoiled, sorry, but that's good. Isn't that where we wanna be? Yes. Perspective, yes, but but really what Jeff wants, no. So he still in these numbers like point nine, four. So that's the twenty four, seven composite. And if you look at rankings at twenty four, seven sports, the one that they highlight is the twenty four, seven composite and that basically takes all of the publicly available rankings from the professional services that do this and they put it all up into into a spreadsheet or whatever they use and they spit out a number. That's basically one means that it's a consensus number one prospect and then it kind of steps back from there. So I think Jerome hunter last year was like a point nine seven, nine, nine Romeo's in the point nine nine somewhere up there. So the closer you are to one the better prospect you are. And so you look at at armone Franklin, Robert, finish, demeans Andersen. Our mon- was point nine one, four fifty point not point nine, three, five, eight and Amisi point nine three, eight, three all those guys in between one hundred and twenty fifth and a hundred and thirty six. So the. Clarity there Jeff, is that all three of those guys are essentially right around the same level of recruit because when you get outside of the top twenty five thirty. And then again, you know, kind of outside of fifty seventy five. It's become a lot harder to separate guys and so so safe to stay there all around the same level of recruit. Let me say something to player like Armand is harder to classify in quantified because he does a lot of things well, but doesn't have necessarily a standout trait right now to me, you said, okay, that guy's shooter and can put points and used to work on x, y, and z. How much is the value of him being shooter finicky? He's a point guard, how much is it a value of what he does here and all this Franklin hearted quantify because it's sort of and Jerome hunter suffered from that a little. I think, too because I think overall talent was Drome hunter is better than where he was ranked. A lot of people agreed with that. They just didn't know. Okay. Well, what's the thing? He hangs his hat on what's his one standout trade? And he was just good at a lot of things. So. So he was also with Jerome, he was still developing. So I think it's just harder to quantify what Armand does really well that helps him shine over other people. And so I think that's why you get a depressed ranking. I think finish he was under rated as wedding. Most people who watched innoc- regularly thought he was very underrated. But again, he wasn't the quickest point guard. He wasn't the best shooting point guard. He wasn't the best defensive point guard. He wasn't the best, you know, passing point guard. He just did all those things. Well, so you know, it's hard when you're stacking up against each other new. Don't have that one trait where you're better than everybody else to sort of rank higher. So I think that's what they suffered. They both offer from a little and that's what's made the discussions about Armand, Brandon, Neuman so interesting because and you and I talked about this several weeks ago where I said, I thought Armand was the better fit, and you said, well, it read Newman is a down three point shooter and you lose you lose Romeo having a guy who can come in, you know, that can score on the perimeter maybe makes him a better fit. And that's the thing is with Brandon, that three point shooting really sticks out. And so I think people kind of see that and you almost envision a little bit easier how he comes in and contributes right away. But in today's day and age of basketball, which is a little bit more position lists and you want versatile players, a guy like Armand is going to be underrated. And so I know that was a big discussion between those two and someone else asked about this. I don't know what the story is now with Newman if he'll still take his, I you visit. No. Some people said they wouldn't play at the same school, but who knows about that kind of stuff. So we'll just have to kind of wait and see if he ends up visiting Indiana, and there's still a chance if he doesn't, then everybody has moved on and that's okay, because you know, you've got your guard kind of in the bag, which is which is what India needed right now and you want to chime in there now, I think you know, I did, you know think that at the time, but it's one of those where you got to players that are rated relatively closely together and. You know the first commitment. Well, one, you take the first commitment. I think you also you need to trust at this point that Archie knows who's gonna fit well in his system. And he seemed to really go after Franklin lately. And I think maybe some of the defensive things that that we talked about and how well he thinks he'll be able to plan their and and he can develop a shot that is good enough to keep people honest and and and do those kinds of things. So to me, it was, I think a reasonable argument to look at that way. But again, we've talked about some other guys, maybe being able to step in and play some of the two guard that in, you know, unconventional ways. So, and you never really know what other guys they might get in the class too. So it's it's tough to say. But yeah, I agree. When you get to relatively even guys, you take the commitment from the first one and then you kind of move on from there. You're listening to the assembly call wrapping up another week talking you basketball, Jerod Morris, sandy bottoms. Run Phillips. Answering your questions. Dylan asked us will they're still be a good chance that I, you lands Jamie's Ramsey if. Indeed, Franklin chooses the hoosiers Jamie's Ramsey originally from Texas. We'll be playing Okeyo academy this year. He's a top thirty top thirty five type player for the rugged. Tough guard more of an instant impact type guy. Then Franklin. I think that recruitment based on what I know and what I've heard from other folks, that recruitment is still in early stages. You know, he's scheduled to make visit. I think we just need to see what happens with the official visit to know if Indiana has a legit chance. The one reason to feel positive about Indiana and credit to think Jeff, Rob Jones for this. No, I heard him say it is that Ramsey really wants a big time basketball atmosphere, and he is certainly going to see that Hoosier hysteria. So you know, we've seen what what the Indiana staff can do on official visit. So I would say really hold off on even thinking too much about Ramsey, let's see how the official visit goes, but I don't think that Franklin committing precludes Indiana from taking Ramsey because you still need another guard. You still don't have a ton of guards on the roster for next year and those two guys could play together. There's nothing there that would suggest that you couldn't take both of them Ryan. Do you have any insight on that particular recruitment, non and that one's kind of new for Indiana to rela relatives since the really isn't a whole lot of feel out there. I mean, I looked around on stuff and and it there really isn't a feel a which way Indians leaning do they. You're right now aiming, you have three scholarships, it'd be opened Franklin fills one of those. They're going to be to that open up your assuming with. If Romeo lease, which I think we all expect him to. And then there could be another one if there's any roster attrition. So you're maybe I think the coaching was probably aiming for like three point, five scholarships right now because tracing kion have the other two if they want. Yes, and tracing kion Brooks are going to be the other two if they accept. I mean that that's so you know, I know you keep saying that they need to go after another guard, blah, blah, blah. But if trays key Tricia Dave's camp, Brooks wanna come, they're coming. And I think that then you look at possibly getting another guard like another peer guard, you have to keep recruiting them just in case doesn't come. Another thing, you know, you're gonna see guys visit and things like that, or maybe the staff doesn't feel like they have a great chance with, but you keep bringing guys and you keep into being maybe something clicks while they're here, and they don't really necessarily, but chance. But all of a sudden they get wowed by Indiana, get wowed by the atmosphere, get wowed by hanging out with other players. And something clicks and stranger things have happened. I remember when Noah von lay visited, a lot of people were kinda like, yeah, you know, they might be in the mix and he was committing that night, you know, at the night of his visits. So I think that that happens a lot and you just kinda have to see how these things play out and what guys feel when they're on campus. Let's see. Last question that we have here. So grant said predictions for twenty nineteen commits rotation and big ten over a record. A lot of a lot. That's a lot of questions in there Ryan. Have you have you gone on record or of you kind of laid out your thoughts on the big tenure, early thoughts? We have about a minute left? Not yet. I think we have to wait until we get a little closer to the season to really break that down because I, I'm just getting the season previews and breaking down with the roster's you're going to be who's had good offseason, stuff like that. I think it's too early. Really. I think once we finally see these teams play practice, I mean, we'll kind of get more of an idea on who these teams because I can talk publicly about it and you know who's having who's had a great summer who's not. So I think we've got a couple more shows to do before. We can start throwing those for out final fifteen seconds quickly. Give me a player comp for Jerome hunter. Jerem hunter. That's my player com. Andy, the best in the business for nothing folks. And era quick. When are you going to do some preseason brecca Tashi is that even on your raider. Is a little bit. I've started looking at some of the previous stuff, so we we got, we got a little ways for that. Probably at least a month, I would say. All right. I'm Jared Morrison here with Andy bottoms and run Phillips, and we are talking about the commitment of Armand Franklin, what it means to Indiana back and segment. One we discussed kind of scouting report our last segment. We talked about why it's such an important commitment. Let's talk a little bit more guys just about, you know, the kind of player Armand is and we'll do some that Ryan really loves to do, which is player comps. And every time we have a new commitment, he really enjoys doing this. For for for new listeners. I hate player comps. Okay. Why do you hate player comp so much because you can never compare guy one to one and most people don't expect like, okay, everybody knows it's not like an exact comparison, but you can compare elements of guys game to kind of visualize what he's like to kind of have a little bit of context. Then it's not a true comparison. If you're like, this guy does this, but he's better at this and worse that this sort of different than this and he looks different in this way. Like I mean, that's exactly, yeah, comp is their, their new is because you watch you watch you give a player cop, and then when he doesn't turn out exactly like the guy you compared. I do this for a living trust me when you're player comp doesn't turn out to be perfect. You get hammered with an said, when somebody asked me who what cody's Ehlers player cop was in the NBA I sit his absolute ceiling was powerless oil. That was his absolute ridiculous ceiling like not saying any chance he had to reaching reasonable opinion. Yeah. And. I've been crapped on it on for it for like four years now because he's not pout powder soul. And again, that's all people here is the here the in and that's okay. I don't know about the audience that you're writing for their trust, our assembly call audience. These are smart basketball people. They'll understand that we're talking about elements of guys games by the way. Just send that guy your article predicting the Victor Oladipo trade, and you'll be he'll he'll have nothing to say it's the ultimate genus. So getting back to Armand Franklin, you brought up an interesting competent text, right? Even though you hate doing it and we'll get to that in a second, a couple of guys that have come to mind for me and one guy that a lot of people who have seen arm on play have brought up to me in terms of player comp is Remmy able just again, not a perfect comparison, but just in terms of a versatile guard who can play both positions who's going to be a good defender, not maybe going to be an instant impact guy, but you look at what Remmy did is junior and senior Xavier. He played sixty plus percent of the minutes on top twenty five. Teams was a productive complimentary player, a key piece of the rotation of a really good team. And so that's kind of the comparison for what and maybe you think Armand has a higher ceiling than Remmy, but I think for what he can be, that's an interesting comparison. Another guy that I thought of while watching him play because of how good his mid range game is is for Dell Jones, who, again is another four year player, solid contributor, not a star, but you know, the thing with Armand is he's not from reading, scouting reports and watching them play, not maybe great at anything, but just good at a lot of different things. So as you think of comparisons, those are the kind of guys that you can think about again, solid for your player. Good. At a lot of different things maybe doesn't stand out with anyone skill. Andy while Ryan prepares his in-depth player comp. What do you think about those? Two. And do any others come to mind for you as we try to paint a picture for what to expect from Franklin? Yeah, I think the room able one is. A little bit interesting to me. I think he played, you know, less of that kind of combo guard. But I think if you believe that he's really going to be able to contribute defensively, I thought Remmy was guy who was able to do that pretty well. And the Verdel one is interesting. He's always a hard one for me. He's just a hard player to evaluate. I think, based on his skill set versus what he was asked to do and the teams on which he was asked to do it at least early in his career. So a little bit hard to gauge. I was just trying to scam back through some of the big ten players the last couple of years I, you know, maybe eventually he shoots it as well as guy. But from a size standpoint, like a Muhammed Ali Abdu Iraq, Ron guy at Michigan where heated a little bit of everything for them last year. I think he was didn't play point guard per se, but became a pretty good defender in a solid all around player that was a role player on that team. And you know. So I think I don't know that was the closest big ten guy could come up with at least a couple teams I scan through, and I think he eventually becomes as shooter as as. Abdurrachman became an implant. Some of those off the ball and being knocked shots roles, maybe that's a a another guy. He's is wise right about the same as he was, but I don't think it was a perfect one that I can think of at least for you in in recent years. Ryan tell us of what player Armand will exactly be like as we watch his career develop Indian, who's going to be like, he's going to be like our Franklin. That's going to be like he's going to be his own man, and I think we should respect him for that. Now, look, I think that you got to let the guy sort of his own person. I think that they're elements of his game that remind me a little bit of albums film that I that we watched me came just because of his size, the length, his ability to sort of drive and take, but he's a much better shooter than ever maybe ever will be so that that doesn't work for me. Remmy able, I think that Franklin is going to have a much better career than Remmy able. I think that he's going to be a much more versatile, much more. He's going to be a player who plays more than Remmy able ever did if he gets throughout his career. And I think that he's the guy who you're going to be able to rely on in key situations. I'm able ever really became that. Guy for anybody, but certainly a versatile guard with size who can defend in in score for you, which I don't think able was was very good, offensive. He was okay and he got better. But certainly he was not a guy us to attack the rim, and I think that you definitely will do that Franklin. So I don't know, pick a six, four guy who can defend played recently at Indiana in any players landed you go find it all, except when the depot when my buddy when my buddy heard his size, I was texting size. He's like, oh God, he's not Bracy. Right. And I was like, no, he's nothing like Bracy. Right. What are you? But I mean, people, you know, they see the size and they, oh, that's who he is. No, he's nothing like that. He really is kind of a different guy. And I would say that. You know, he's almost like Romeo dial down for notches or something, you know, because he's a guy who does. He does a lot of good things has that same size, but he's not elite. He's not gonna be a a a lottery pick. So I'm really as no player comparis- it. I'm guessing Tipton edits didn't put that on his social media graphic Romeo, dial down four nut. I mean, let's be real. I mean, that's kind of weird, isn't Romeo is at eleven and and Armand looks like he's about at a seven right now. So I think that you've. You know, it's not that that's hard to do. I, I never going. And any final player comparisons from you? Downey Wilkins now not a big fan of that one. Any others. B, J Armstrong, no, Shawn Bradley, Andy's just making out of his mind. This is why Ryan is like these segments. 'cause ideas like those get thrown out when the band starting lineup, go back on vacation. Seven. All right. Let's move on. No, Andy. Any final thoughts before we talk a little bit more about the class of twenty nineteen at large at now? I don't think so. I think it's, I think it's an exciting guy to get in the door and I think it provides flexibility, you know, in what they can do the rest of the recruiting season. And so we'll see how the rest of the class fills out, but it's good to have a start on it and we'll move on from there. I'm Jared Morrison here with Andy bottoms and Ryan Phillips on this edition of simply call radio talking about the commitment of Armand Franklin. So now the attention of all Indiana fans is going to turn to the rest of the guys in the class of twenty nineteen. Obviously, trace Jackson Davis has made some comments recently trying to counter the the notion that he's a locked to Indiana. He's going this weekend on a visit to Iowa. He also by the way this news kinda slip. That'll be fun. Hope he and Fran have some good conversations, but he, he is not going to be taking a trip to produce kind of double whammy this week for produce. They lose out an arm on Franklyn, trace Jackson Davis will not be visiting there. Everybody's going to keep their eye on him. I still haven't heard anything that leads me to not still feel good about where that recruitment is key on Brooks recruitment continues to progress, and so those guys are obviously the focus, and then you look to see if you can get another guard guy like Jamie's Ramsey, maybe a guy like James book nights, someone like that. But having Franklin certainly puts you in a better position instead of having to feel desperate to get one of those guys. Now it'd be more of a bonus. And as we were talking about before we went live, you expect that there will be three scholarships open next year because of John Morgan's nurse and then with Romeo going pro. And then you know if you do have any attrition, like last year, one guy left with Curtis Jones and you could have four. So I'm sure our staff or kind of recruiting keeping that in mind, Andy, as you. You watched the rest of this recruiting class develop knowing that kion Brooks is pretty much suggested that his recruit will take until the spring. It's looking more and more electrodes may take longer than people initially thought, what are you now going to be watching for two to just to kind of gauge how this classes shaping up. I still think it's largely those guys and like you said, I think those may drag out, but that's pretty much the norm. I feel like for most of the higher level guys at the stage. So the Jamie's Ramsey thinkings. Interesting. Because he said he was gonna to use your Steria. I would assume they will continue through. They're playing with him and see what happens. So that'll be a little bit interesting. But I think at this point the focus is really all on on trace and on kyanne Brooks and the trace the Iowa thing is just kind of interesting to me like that. When Wake Forest seem he's Fred with frame McCaffrey, son, I think is one reason why visiting. Okay. Okay. Well, I guess maybe that maybe that makes sense there. And then I don't know if wake forces like a Danny Manning thing. I don't really get into the NBA. That's the well. He has players leave this year to go to the NBA just because they didn't want to be on the team anymore. So I guess maybe that's maybe that's part of the stuff to say. So, yeah, those seem kind of odd to me. I guess that you know, being friends with France on his is one thing, but anytime you can get some quality offseason time with Fran, I feel like you probably have to take that opportunity who wouldn't who wouldn't love quality time with friend, Ryan is you look at it? I mean, are you assume you're feeling confident now about about this class? People were panicking because Indiana didn't have a commitment. Now they do. You know, the one sentiment that I've seen in credit for this ghost either Brian snow or Jeff Rob Jones, someone that I read this, which was basically, you know, with Armand Franklin, if he's the best player in your class, probably not a good sign. You know if he's the lowest rated player in your class. Now you've probably got a really good class which based on the other guys, India. It's targeting. That's what it looks like is probably the most likely, so we'll have to see what pieces kind of fill in around Armand. But a lot of reason to feel good about where where the hoosiers are at, what are you going to be watching for now moving forward with the recruiting. Here's the reason Indiana can feel good about where they're at and its last year's class. You have recruited so well last year that now you can take some chances on waiting out, trace Jackson Davis and kion Brooks and is as Stewart, whoever else because you have enough depth, you're just looking to add top tier guys. You're not just looking to pack the roster. You're not going to be short on guys who can play so you can go out and take some chances on waiting on higher guys. And I think that that's, you know, had Indian missed on some of the guys last year. They being a much different situation than they are right now. But as far as we're concerned right now, they can take those chances and look if they miss out. And let's say they only get Armand Franklin and maybe one other guy, and they miss out on that. Third scholarship, maybe it's your grad transfer. Maybe you do that. You know, whatever you do, you kind of feel like, hey, you know, what are we may not feel great about this class, but I feel good about where roster is at, and that's what matters in the end is not a recruiting class. It matters where you're roster, and the roster looks really good heading into not just this year, but then Romeo's gonna leave. And I still think it looks even with Rome without Romeo and let's say you don't get another five star going next. That roster still really good, and and especially given the development, these guys are gonna have this year. So they put themselves in a position where they can take risks and take smart risks. And if they miss out, it's not the end of the world, and then you turn your focus to the next class. And I think that they've done a really good job setting themselves up for that. Any other concluding thoughts on our on Franklin before we move on? I haven't had crush on Archie. Miller speaks for all of us. I think. No, I would just say, I think it's great to get the first one out of the way, and now they can focus on hoosiers theory and trying to lock is down that that's usually the time where we start to see. The winds start to change is is around hoosiers theory. I know it's early this year, but that's usually when things start to chain going to be a lot of visitors there for hoosiers theory as well. So already coming up here in our final segment of the assembly call will talk about a few highlights from the schedule release the times the times and TV information also get your questions and finish the show, answering those that's next on these with stick with. And of course, all this information is available at our website assembly call dot com. I'm Jared Morrison here with antibodies and Ryan Phillips, and we are continuing to talk about this week's top story in the world of Indiana basketball, and that is the commitment of arm on Franklin and Ryan. You did really nice job of talking about what kind of player Armand is. And I know you know, I've seen sentiments in a few places and by no means do I think this is a majority opinion, but I've seen a few sentiments expressing maybe a little bit of underwhelmed at the, you know, the one hundred and thirty third ranked recruit and why are people getting so excited about this? Well, just wanna talk about a few reasons why this commitment. So important. If you listening right now happened to be one of those people that are, you know, wondering how big this is. You know, number one, just remember that Robert finicky was the one hundred thirty sixth-ranked recruit last year. So that's right around where Armand is right around in that range. But more than that, we talked about how he's an in state kid and getting a commitment like that from guy like that further, solidifies Indiana's just respect and stature in the state after really fell off and look, it's huge that Indiana was able to pull him right out from under underproduced knows because a lot of people assumed he was going to go to do and just like demeans e. Anderson. And to certain extent Robert finish, they getting him out of Lafayette. It's nice to be winning those recruiting battles against a big rival like produce. And I think what maybe a little bit under rated here that it's really a testament to how good Archie and his staff are on a fishing visits because before the official visit to Bloomington, again, a lot of people really thought it was produced lean and the the Indiana coaching staff did such a good job there on that visit. That even after he took visit to Purdue are on, ended up committing to Indiana, and anytime that you can get, you know, a guy like that with that skill level from instate who's going to be a four year player to really provide stability or at least we assume he'll be a four year player who can provide that type of stability at the guard position. It's going to be really good for your program. So and then there are other reasons that we can get to as well. But you know, India, just I think it's easy sometimes to kind of look at this and you see the triple digit number and it's not a McDonald's all American. But the thing is like these are the types of players that you build a stable winning program around, and especially a guy like that from instate. I'm ecstatic now that we're starting to get these guys because I think that's what Indiana really needs to be a consistent winning program again. Well, I think the other thing is, you know, while it would certainly be exciting to get a top ten top twenty guy, those guys typically anymore aren't committing at this time of the year. So if you want people to commit. You know, in in September, you're probably not, in most cases getting the top top guys. And like I said, I think. You know a lot of ways the foundational class that's coming in this year as as freshman, and then it will come talked about, like you build a nucleus. You take shot on a few of the really top guys. So I think he becomes part of the nucleus that's going to be there a really solid player. I think to what Ryan said, you know, does a lot of things. Well, maybe isn't known for one specific thing, but is a guy who I think will buy into what they wanna do on both ends of the floor and and give them some flexibility from a roster sampling from a lineup standpoint. So yeah, I think you know, we can't have the well. We need to get guys from in state and then become disappointed with a guy from instate who was arguably one of the better players in state. And I think even when you say the six, some of those numbers get a little bit deflated with, you know, with Mike Lemaire as a prep school, those guys kind of, I believe they kind of quote unquote count in terms of guys from the state. But in a lot of cases, not guys who actually are from the state. So. If you, if you took some of that out, he's probably even higher than that in don't tell that is as Stewart. We want him thinking, it's in state. We want that to be part of the pull. So just well, certainly. Yeah. So you know, I don't know. I think it's, I think it's exciting. I think it's, I think the coach said some of the, but he's a guy that other guys like to play with again, some of the highlights that you've seen he's making unselfish plays and making the right pass. And I think that is, you know, the kind of guy that it's going to be hard for, you know, you're not gonna come up with reasons. Guys are gonna say, you know, this isn't a a team guy or any of those kinds of things. And I think for the most part, those guys that people weren't. So for me, hard to be too disappointed about a given kind of stated goals that Archie set out and what other fans of have said they wanted. It fits in line with all that to me. Yeah. And you had to have guard in this class. So what this allows you getting this commitment of the way now as you've got your guard and now you can really go after a guy like Jamie Ramsey who's a top forty type player, and it's not that you now ignore Brandon Neuman, but. You know, you can. Now you're just a little bit more settled. You know, you don't have to be desperate looking for a guard a little bit later, and I know some people, you know, maybe they like brand Newman a little bit better and he is a better shooter. So I saw some people saying, I'd rather wait and see what Neumann's gonna do. It's like, look, you got a guy Armand, Franklin's caliber, and he wants to commit you take it and you're happy about it, and it's a great thing for the program run. Yeah, let's not be insanely picky here. You needed a guard. You want a versatile guard because it's because that's Archie likes guy who can play both positions comple- several, I mean, can has shown can do several things on the floor. Does a lot of things. Well, doesn't have any huge, glaring weaknesses, and he's got some sized too. I mean, that's what you want. And also he's in state people. The people I see complaining that maybe, you know, this isn't the exact guy I wanted or something like that, or the people who were complaining that Indiana never crude you players before. It's like come on dude, like this is what you've been asking for. Now, Archie is nailing down some of the top players in the state. You got to accept it. It's not going to be perfect. Every time it's gonna be every guy you want. These kids all have different opinions and different places. They wanna go on family influence, family influences and stuff. Indiana's lucky to get a guy like this to commit at this point because there's not a whole lot of time left. You get this guy in. Now you focus on getting the big you want, which seems to be where the focus is moving forward. Yeah, and look, you know, the thing that we're saying that I think everyone has to be excited about is Archie really zeroes in on a guy in state. He's getting them, you know, so so too easy closer he he is and I saw someone tweet out, Matt painter has to be so upset that the Tom cranes not Bloomington anymore and about to say, I don't mean that as knock on Tom crane, but I do because he didn't focus on the state and we target guys in the state. He didn't get them and Archie Miller has come in at done exactly what he said. He was gonna do Andy, and we know we're not going to get every player in the state. But now as you start to look forward at trace Jackson Davis and key on Brooks Archie, his zeroed in on them, made them big focus. It gives you a lot of confidence that he'll eventually be able to close the deal with those. Andy. Yeah. I mean, I think you know, again, the these are guys that know each other that have played in some of the all star teams and things like that in the in the in the in the state, and so they know each other. And you know, hopefully that hopefully that helps things as well. But I do. I agree you had to get guards. This was not a guard heavy class at all, whether it be in the state or in the nation. And tonight, if you kinda got one in the hand and you figure out where you go from there and how you had to the class. Yep, absolutely. So as we move forward here on this edition of the assembly call will continue talking about arm on Franklyn. We'll talk about, you know, some guys that he compares to if you haven't seen him play to kinda give you an idea on answer some of your questions about him to pick up any other stories from the rest of the week you basketball that's coming stick with. "Quick. Ryan, what is your rent on the path? The NFL your intro thought about t- introduced Dan dockage, big fan of the show did, but I think it's on Franklin, has to be it was huge, came out today. Look, this team needed guards, and we've talked about that for a while. There's going to need to be some guard depth, and he adds that and we'll get into a scouting report on him and everything after. But I think the most impressive part of this is that this was a producer Xavier battle for a long time. It looked like and Archie Miller and company gotten official visit and absolutely nailed. It seems like and really swum this recruiting battle back to them. He's the number six player in Indiana on the twenty four, seven composite, you know, I know that people want to take the top three every year from Indiana. But I mean, let's be honest. It's not gonna happen every single year, but this is a top player from Indiana at shooting guard point guard. Combo guard sort of guy who you need yet, any any need to get a guy like that. And I think that it's very solid yet when you look at some of the other guys, who were potential players in this class, I think he's gonna fit very well. Particularly. He's a guy who's gonna stick around. And when you look at the kind of things that Romeo length for does when Romeo Lankford moves on next year, as we all expect him to do be a wanted to get out of a Bloomington next year, you needed somebody who could come in and fill that sort of role. Maybe not obviously to that level, but somebody who could long-term be a guy who could do some of the things that Romeo is gonna roam the Brome is gonna leave a hole, there needs some guy to come in and sort of fill that spot. That's what you get norm on Franklin. We'll get into the scouting report, but I just thought in general, was a very good pickup for Indian, especially at this point to get out of the way before you hit Hoosier hysteria before you get towards that early, signing period, get it done and get this guy on campus and. I mean not on campus, but get him in the fold and helping to recruit other guys. Absolutely. So here's we're gonna talk about this week, a lot of arm on Franken. We're gonna talk about the scouting report. We're going to talk about what this means kind of in the bigger picture. Answer your questions about it. That may be the only topic that we cover. But hey, when a guy commits and we've got a new Hoosier new future Hoosier to talk about that usually takes up the majority of the show, Indiana did release the tip times and TV information for the schedule today. So if we have any extra time, we'll cover that as well. But all of that is what's coming here on assembly call radio before we get to talking more about Armand Franklin. So we do appreciate you using that you are once again, the URL is tickets dot show. Thank you. All right. You are listening to assembly call radio. I'm Jerod Morris here with Andy bottoms and Ryan Phillips. This week's top story of course, the commitment of Armand Franklin, four star prospect of Indianapolis cathedral high school. According to the twenty four, seven sports composite rankings. He's the number one hundred thirty three player in the country. The twenty sixth ranked shooting guard Ryan. Let's just start right from the top. I know you had a chance to watch some tape on him. All of us have, but let's start with the scouting report before we get into some of the bigger picture stuff. Let's talk about Armand as a player and what type of guy Indiana is getting on both ends of the court. We're getting a six foot, four hundred ninety five pound one hundred eighty five pound. I bet he's probably to five by the time he hits campus. Combo guard? I would. I would. I wouldn't say he's appear shooting guard. So he's more of a combo guard because he panels the ball for theol- and I think he will. I mean, I think it's also sort of like how Romeo handled the ball the time last year is this your best players gonna handle ball. He's out of his hands and and that's what Franklin does. And by the way, if you're in Indianapolis over the cathedral watches, kid play, he's fun to watch. He's not going to jump out of the gym. He's not going to do any LeBron dunks or craziness like that, but he is really a fun basketball player to watch a little loose of the ball when he's dribbling. But I think that that's just a general thing that guys need to tighten up when they hit the next level. That's one thing I really noticed, and that also comes with adding strength is, you know it'd be more sort of compact in his actions. He's long and lanky obviously needs sad strength like every high schooler. But I think that he's also having seen him highlights from last year and then some of the work Abadi is he showing the summer, these really progress in that area and getting a lot better is a really good feel for shot. Good release, good rotation. Good actions on the shot. Sometimes can get a little lazy and lean back in kind of lean to the side and kinda almost in a show boaty way that high schoolers sorta get. They kind of fire up in the shot and they know what's get going in, maybe don't hold their follow through as long and stuff, but he might need a little shot doctor maybe a little bit. But he gets his feet under really well. When he when he lines for shot, which is huge feet shoulders and release are enormous for every shot. I think that he, he also loves the pull up to. That's one thing I noticed you get a lot of mid range, pull up type stuff. He likes to pull up on the break as well. And she three, I think he's a really good finisher right now, and he's good at the high school level, but is gonna need to add some strength as I mentioned to finish at the rim, finish through contact, but he hasn't really nice feel for finishing around the rim. And one thing I really noticed was an act. Excuse me, I, you don't get to see a whole lot of defensive film when when when watching these guys and what's available out there. But one thing. I noticed is that he has a very active hands defensively. He's looking to take the ball from the guy in front of him it one way or another, whether it's actually swiping it or deflecting a pass that comes in. He's really active in that way. But I think that it's a good sign that he likes to disrupt things when his guy has the ball or is going to get the ball, he likes to go in there and that's something that you can work with. It shows some level of commitment to defense. Again, I think he's, he's athletic, but it doesn't always play up it. You'll see it and transition from time to time, but it doesn't always play up in the way he plays. But again, that's something you can unlock as you move along. And then I think that he since Archie has less of a commitment to a point guard, shooting guard dynamic on the perimeter. He just has guards out there and kind of picks who handles the ball based on where the ball's coming in, what the situation is all that. I think that it fits really well with what he does that Franklin has some length has some size in place of defense and has athleticism. As well. And I think that that seems to really fit with what Archie is going to want to do, and I bet the Franklin will be able to handle the ball better by the time it's campus too. So I think that all of those things point to positives in what Archie is gonna want, because this is a guy who is good in a lot of aspects, maybe not great in any single aspect, but really good in a lot of ways and things you can polish up make you better Andy. What stood out to you watching on? I think the biggest thing for me is just versatility on the defensive end of the floor has size gifts in the ability to play. You know, he's he's going to be in a position more to defend guards, but I think being able to switch onto wing players is important and listening to the minor banners that Zach Astrum put up with count enery tonight they talked about a lot of times, you know us one of the taller players on on federal team. So he ended up guarding some bigger players inside. So I think versatile in that regard. And then I think due to some of the same things, some of the highlights in the video that was on inside the hall was really him doing things in the post which. Certainly don't vision Archie having him do a great deal of, but I think you see some some well roundedness in his game. You can play a little bit of the point which he was asked to do as year may or may not be his natural position, but a guy that gives you some flexibility there if they need to do that. So that was kind of what I liked about him that you, he's a guy who could probably fit with a lot of different lineups and you could use different things with both ends of the floor and that to me structures, the kinda guy that Archie would like and in with his length. I think he can be disruptive defensively in really commit to that. I think his high school coach and one of the things I read talked about, you know his effort on that on the floor and how he's kind of heart from that with guys at. That's the way to set yourself apart. So you know, I think maybe less exciting in some ways than you know, some of the other big names is going after. But again, like I said, the opening, I think a a really solid player in the mould. This guy's going to be there this year that that can really be foundational guys as our. She looks to build things already coming up. Here on the assembly call. We're going to continue talking about Armand Franklin. You know what kind of player he is now, what is the impact of this recruitment or Indiana for arch another, we will get into that all coming up here on the assembly, stick with us. You

This is our ninety second edition of simply call radio and it is our four hundred and twenty third episode overall of the assembly call recorded on the evening Thursday, September six, twenty eighteen. I'm your host, Jared Morris. And let's begin this edition of the assembly call how we begin every edition of the assembly call. And that is with our Hoosier proud banner moment. Takes the. So the obvious choice here would be that yet another in-state recruit arm on Franklyn picked Indiana on Thursday night, but we're going to discuss that for the rest of the show, and I'm sure Andy and Ryan or about to mention it. So I'm going to go in a bit of a different direction for this week's banner moment. It occurred on Wednesday. When the I you men's basketball team hosted a special guest speaker, Brenda Tracy, the founder of set the expectation dot org in nineteen ninety eight Brenda was gang raped by four men, three of whom were Oregon state football players. She reported the assault immediately, but did not come forward publicly in twenty fourteen. She decided to come forward with her story, realizing that quote, educating engaging and inspiring men and coaches to become involved in the fight against sexual violence was what I was most passionate about unquote. So she founded set the expectation dot org. And now she speaks with high school and college athletic programs to raise awareness and education of sexual violence against women, inviting Tracy into. Speak with team was Archie idea. And to me, it is yet another reason to believe that he is the right man to be leading the program. We saw Minnesota season derailed last year when Reggie Lynch was suspended due to sexual assault allegations. It's happened at other schools. So from a strict basketball sense providing this kind of education and awareness increases the likelihood of players avoiding terrible decisions that could remove them from the court, but it's obviously so so much bigger than that. Sure. We all want to win as many basketball games as possible. But I think most of us has fans also want to see the young men who play basketball for our university grow and develop as people during their time in Bloomington experiences like this, having the opportunity to be emotionally impacted by the personal story and passion of someone like Brinda, Tracy are great way to impact young men during impressionable time and not only help them void bad decisions and the awful consequences that can come from them. But perhaps even help them turn into leaders affect positive. Change in their communities. And in their personal circles, I felt a lot of pride seeing the pictures on Twitter of the guys wearing the set, the expectation wristbands. I feel pride knowing that Archie Miller is making respect toward women foundational piece of his programs, culture at you just as it should be in an off season of attention grabbing noteworthy, social media post by the I, you basketball team. This one to me was easily the most noteworthy of the mall. All right. Now let me introduce my esteemed co host for this week show to my left. He is the Nick Sabin of girls, youth sports coaching in Cincinnati. He's the president emeritus of the Robert Johnson fan club, and he is renowned the world over for his bracket, Holly expertise. It's not Joel Nardi. It's not Jerry palm. It is Abby bottoms from over at assembly call. He is Andy bottoms, Andy. What is your bottom line on the last week in Indiana? Basketball, I don't know about the Sabin. I don't know about the same thing and rarely get the chance to be raised. I started liking Andy a whole lot less said that. Yeah, whatever now so it. Well, it's funny, Jared, that you mentioned that that was one of the things I was gonna bring up, and I talked last week about the head, Chris Herren in Takata, talk to the team about his issues with drug abuse and things like that. And I think seeing, you know, an another speaker come in and really, you know, preparing these guys for it sounds like a corny NCAA saying about preparing them for life for far more than sports, all those kinds of things. But it is true in light of the other things that we've seen around the country and like you. I feel pride in that. I'll I'll take the arm on Franklyn route though since you did not. And you know, exciting. We before we came on that it was a nice convenient of him to do this before we were gonna come on tonight. And so you know an exciting commitment and other in guy. And when you really, you know, think about what Archie has set out to do. It's just another example of him really following through on on on. Trying to lock down the state as best he can and really taken a guy who who didn't seem very close at all that you felt like third of the three teams that it came down to for quite a while in various points during the recruitment and really be able to close the deal with Armand Franklin guy who I think fits a lot of the things Archie is going to want to do as exciting to be able to continue to see him relented instate guy, maybe not the one at the top of people's wishlist, but you know a good thing overall. And I think another guy in the same vein of some of the freshmen, the Rian, this year's class that you can see being wrong for your player and can easily vision what he's going to become over the course of his career and to my right. He's a columnist for the big lead and co host of the hangover. But you know him as Indiana radios, most abrasive polarizing over the top personality. He is Ryan Phillips house all day because I work from home. Was it Ted Valentine? I will absolutely meet anybody by the bike racks after school. If they. Gonna fight. Let me just jump in real quick.

"And welcome. Who's your fans to another edition of banner morning, recorded on Wednesday, September fifth, twenty eighteen. I'm Jared Morris, and we are now just twenty four days away from Hoosier hysteria in recruiting news who's your nation remains on commitment. Watch with Armand Franklin. The four star guard out of Indianapolis, took official visits to Indiana and Purdue over the last two weekends and most recruiting analysts expect him to make a decision soon. The consensus seems to be that produce the favourite, but the Indiana closed the gap with a strong official visit. Eric bossy from rivals, wrote a post on Tuesday detailing. Franklin's game and how he would fit at both Indiana and Purdue bossy concluded the piece by saying as of now, we still believe that Franklin ends up at Purdue and that a decision is imminent. Should he not make a decision within the next twenty four to forty? Eight hours though we may have to reevaluate. And if we were putting percentages on it, we would probably go sixty five thirty five in favor of Purdue looking ahead to the class of twenty twenty Bossi's. Colleague at rivals, Corry Evans reported on Tuesday that four star guard, Ethan Morton out of Pennsylvania has scheduled an official visit to Bloomington. Morton will be checking out the nation's prettiest campus, the weekend of September twenty. First Morton will visit Purdue the weekend prior and also has visit scheduled to pit Marquette, northwestern Stanford and Michigan, and we have a birthday today, happy birthday to Jobe right? Who turns sixty? Eight today Jobe played and coached at Indiana. He was a player from nineteen sixty nine through nineteen seventy-two playing for Lou Watson and Bob Knight as a senior on nights. I team right scored nineteen point, nine points per game in route to being named all big ten. He averaged seventeen point four points per game for his career and scored a total of one thousand two hundred seventy. Two points. Remember that in those days, freshmen were ineligible. So he would have scored many more points for his career feed had that fourth season after his Indiana career ended. Job was drafted in the second round by the Seattle SuperSonics. He would eventually returned to Bloomington to serve as an assistant. Under night for nine seasons. He later became the head coach for Miami of Ohio and Wyoming. Happy birthday.
