That's among the complaints from Wakefield's high parent John bar Trump after students apparent overdose in a trespasser on campus triggered lockdowns in the same week. According to my kids and their friends, there's been a lot of drug overdoses in the school. In response, the school system is increasing the supply of Narcan in schools, bartrum is also calling for an independent review of how the school responded to the trespassing incident. There's a standard protocol. It may not have been followed. Schools like Washington liberty high are also adjusting security procedures, starting Tuesday, kids there won't be allowed in hallways during the first and last ten minutes of class. Kids who come home in tears, talking about having to play dead after an active shooter drill in class, a parent who says her third grader brought butter knives to school to defend himself against a possible shooter. Maryland lawmakers are proposing a bill to change the way active shooter drills are done. Melissa villegas, mother of three, told Maryland state lawmakers about how her 7 year old daughter came home one day, upset after an active shooter drill. The legacy quoted her daughter telling her, we have to make the room dark. But it didn't get dark enough. And we could still see each other. So I know we would die. Accounts like that. Coupled with questions about how effective the drills really are, prompted lawmakers, including delegate Jared Solomon of Montgomery county to propose a bill that would require schools to give advanced notice of the drills. "A 22, a teenager was found unresponsive earlier today in Arlington county, as WTO's dick giuliano reports the boy suffered an apparent drug overdose at Wakefield high school, Arlington county police say the boy was found in a bathroom around 9 30 in the morning, Andy's hospitalized in critical condition. Four other boys were evaluated at the scene by medics. Police collected evidence and spoke with witnesses before offering the preliminary assessment of a drug overdose. Police did not provide any information about the type of drugs that may have been involved. Wakefield on south Dinwiddie street is one of three high schools in Arlington county. In Maryland 11 students have overdosed while at Montgomery county schools in several others have died while at home. The FDA has been facing scrutiny for months after contamination at a Michigan factory led to the nationwide infant formula shortage. Now the agency is promising to do better. It's overhauling its food safety and nutrition division, promising the new structure will better protect you and the country's food supply. FDA commissioner, doctor Robert califf, says he'll create a new human foods program. It'll be led by a deputy commissioner with authority over parts of the agency that oversees 80% of the foods that we eat. The Virginia Department of Transportation's plan is to open the westbound I 66 express lanes on or about November 19th, and the eastbound lanes by the end of the month. The toll lanes will be free for high occupancy vehicles with an easy pass flex and will extend from the capitol beltway to Virginia route 28 in Centreville. Vdot rules about what constitutes an HOV are changing. Right now, an HOV is a vehicle with two or more occupants, but starting Monday, December 5th, you'll need to have three or more to qualify for toll free driving. Now the Stafford county sheriff's office says 34 year old James hash of Fredericksburg has been arrested after it identified him using call information with the help of Fredericksburg police. The sheriff's office has charged hash with threats to bomb and attempted act of terrorism, and it says Fredericksburg police have tacked on charges of threats of death, threats to bomb and falsely summoning police. "County landscaper is suing Arlington county for not paying him nearly a million bucks an extra construction cost. McDonald landscape claims the county severely underestimated the amount of soil concrete and excavation work at a park near the east falls church metro. The company also claims the county did not include traffic management during the work at Benjamin banneker park. A county spokesman says he can't comment on pending litigation. Arlington's already offered McDonald landscaping $272,000 to settle this, but the company turned it down. The Washington Post reports the county claims it was a lump sum contract and not based on unit pricing like the company claims. In other news, there is some good stuff for metro rail riders. Some stations that were closed down over the summer are reopening tomorrow and there are upgrades. The 5 orange line stations were closed down for fixes and improvements. Now the new Carrollton, landover, Chevrolet, dean wood, and Minnesota avenue stations are ready to open back up, with larger digital display screens, brighter LED lighting, new slip resistant tiles, and rebuilt platform edges. Some of them may notice a change in the way they're being taught to read Arlington superintendent Francisco Duran says changes are coming to the way elementary school students are taught literacy skills. Chesapeake beach road in Anna Randall county has now reopened after a major crash yesterday. Among the victims are two children who suffered life threatening injuries. Just before one in the afternoon, and arundel county fire officials say two pickup trucks collided in owings, leading to a major fire along Chesapeake Bay road between sansbury road and route two, two children were seriously injured, both of them were flown to a trauma center with life threatening injuries. The other victims to adults, both were also taken to a nearby trauma center with serious injuries. Now investigators are still working to piece together what led to the crash. A police officer is hurt after their cruiser crashed with another car northwest D.C. on Sunday afternoon. The sea police tell WTF the crash happened around 1 o'clock at 6th and 8th streets, the officer was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life threatening, no one else was hurt. Police in Arlington county continued to investigate how a ride share driver crashed his car into an Irish pub and Arlington's courthouse neighborhood on Friday. 15 people were injured in the crash, police say the rideshare driver and a passenger were traveling up north courthouse road when the car crashed into Ireland's four courts pub. Two people remain in critical condition and one is in serious, but stable condition, police are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control of the car. "Security around polling places is growing ahead of the election. In general Security of polling places is the responsibility of the local board of elections. However, none reported knowledge of any plans to disrupt voters of the poles by any organized groups. In Arlington County.
