Three Arkansas police officers suspended after brutally beating suspect. And Ford cuts 3000 jobs as it shifts from gas to electric motors. It's Tuesday August 23. I'm Anthony Davis. Former president Donald Trump on Monday are stay federal court to temporarily block the FBI from reviewing the materials it seized two weeks ago from his Florida home until a special master can be appointed to oversee the review. Trump's motion filed in federal court in West Palm Beach, Florida, also demanded that the U.S. Justice Department provide him a more detailed property receipt outlining items the FBI seized from his Mar-a-Lago home during its August 8th search and asked investigators to return any items outside the scope of the search warrant. A special master can sometimes be appointed in highly sensitive cases to go through seized materials and ensure investigators do not review privileged information when FBI agents had searched the homes of Trump's former lawyers, Michael Cohen and Rudy Giuliani, the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan, requested the appointment of a special master. Trump's request was assigned to U.S. district judge Eileen M cannon, whom Trump appointed to the bench. A Justice Department spokesman said prosecutors would file their response in court. The August 8th search warrant at Mar-a-Lago was authorized by a federal court upon the required finding of probable cause Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said. In total, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings from mister Trump since he left office, according to The New York Times. The first batch of documents returned in January, another set provided by mister Trump's aides to the Justice Department in June, and the material seized by the FBI in the search earlier this month. The previously unreported volume of the sensitive material found in the former president's possession in January helps explain why the Justice Department moved so urgently to hunt down any further classified materials he might have. Federal authorities said they have started a civil rights investigation following the suspension of three Arkansas law enforcement officers after a video posted on social media showed two of them beating a man while a third officer held him on the ground. The officers were responding to a report of a man making threats outside a convenience store on Sunday in the small town of mulberry about a 140 miles northwest of Little Rock near the border with Oklahoma. Arkansas state police said the agency would investigate the use of force. State police identified the suspect as 27 year old Randall Worcester of goose creek South Carolina. The video shows one officer punching the suspect with a clenched fist, while another can be seen hitting the man with his knee. The third officer holds him against the pavement. In video recorded from a car nearby, someone yells at officers to stop hitting the man in the head. Two of the officers appear to look up and say something back to the person who yelled. The officer's comments could not be heard clearly on the video. He was taken to a hospital, then released and booked into the Crawford county jail in Van Buren on multiple charges, including second degree battery, resisting arrest and making terroristic threats state police said. Worcester was released yesterday on $15,000 bond. Two Crawford county sheriff's deputies and one mulberry police officer was suspended city and council authorities said, Worcester is white, according to jail booking information, and the three officers involved also appear to be white. A Justice Department spokesperson said on Monday that the U.S. attorney's office for the western district of Arkansas, the FBI's Little Rock field office, and the Department of Justice's civil rights division opened a civil rights investigation into the incident. The Ford Motor Company said it will cut a total of 3000 salaried and contract jobs, mostly in North America and India as it restructures to catch up with Tesla in the race to develop software driven electric vehicles. For chief executive Jim Farley has been saying for months that he believed the Michigan automaker had too many people and that not enough of its workforce had the skills required as the auto industry shifts to electric vehicles and digital services. Like other established automakers, Ford has a workforce largely hired to support a traditional combustion technology product lineup, going forward, Ford has mapped out a strategy to develop a broad lineup of electric vehicles, like Tesla, Ford wants to generate more revenue through services that depend on digital software and connectivity. In Monday's email to staff, Farley and Ford said the company's cost structure is uncompetitive versus traditional and new competitors. Rising prices for batteries, raw materials, and shipping are putting additional pressure on Ford and other automakers. Ford has begun separating its operations into electric combustion engine and commercial vehicle operations. Farley said in July, cost reduction will happen in the combustion operations. But Ford said on Monday the staff cuts will affect all parts of the company. United auto workers union, which represents the Detroit automaker's U.S. factory employees, have expressed concern that electric vehicles will mean fewer manufacturing jobs and more jobs dispersed to non union battery and EV hardware factories. "Hi, Michael. Hi, Ari. Tell us about today's developments. What's happened? Well, there are multiple investigations now underway looking into the office or use of force while arresting a man named Randall Worcester in the west are console city of mulberry. The afternoon governor east sir Hutchinson held a press conference and said one probe is being led by Arkansas state police, which is standard after this sort of incident. Also, though the U.S. attorney saw working with the Department of Justice civil rights division is fleeting a separate investigation into what happened. The two Crawford county sheriff's deputies and a mulberry police officer were seen punching and kneeing the suspect Hutchinson called the contact conduct of the office or reprehensible. Here's what the governor had to say about the incident. It is under investigation. We don't have all of the details and certainly that's suspect had a history of concern that was legitimate for the officers. But that response was, was not consistent with the training that they receive as certified officers with the Arkansas law enforcement training academy. Hutchinson did not elaborate on what the concerns for law enforcement were, but the city's police chief said that Worcester had been making threats and struggled with officers before being arrested. So the spy standard video was posted on social media Sunday and it spread far and wide really quickly tell us what it showed. This was a short but very dramatic video in which officers were seen outside a convenience store holding Worcester down to the ground. One was repeatedly punching the man in the face with a closed fist, the other repeatedly kneeing the body. The bystander who recorded this was in a vehicle and she was gasping at what she was seeing and at one point yelled at officers who told her to keep back. Is there body camera footage of the incident? Well, we don't know for certain that body camera footage exists. The governor and head of Arkansas state police were asked by reporters today whether body camera footage possibly worn by the officers would be released. The 34 second clip we've seen so far only shows police sitting and kneeing the suspect additional footage would likely help provide some context about what led to the officers taking this level of force. Colonel Bill Bryant, director of Arkansas state police, said any decision on whether to release that footage would have to be made by prosecutors after his department's investigation is complete. It's going to take some time. They're out there working right now. Together, the facts and the evidence. And once we get the facts and evidence, they prepare a case file in the summary and then we'll turn it over to the prosecutor who then will decide what the appropriate charges are. And today the Crawford county sheriff's office released the name of the two deputies. They have been suspended the mulberry office or is also on administrative leave. That is Michael of Little Rock station Ku a thank you very much. You bet. Let's head overseas now after more violence in the Gaza Strip. There was supposed to be ten best in passing defense. They played four games. Three against teams ranked seventy six or worse they lost to the one team ranked in the top twenty five and that was stanford. And now. you're going against arkansas state. Who is i in all approachable for passing yards. Seventeen point favorites. Are you kidding me. I mean look arkansas state. They're not going to shy away. They beat kansas state last year. Right i mean exactly as a thirteen point underdogs. They've done this before or watching that game myself as kim state. Really gonna lose to arkansas state. And they did and they got some offense firepower on that on that team. I don't hate that at all. I seventeen half a big number for a washington team. That i think. They spent the whole offseason reading their press clippings because they have played not well out of the gate here out of the pack twelve. Everyone thought they were going to be this great team. I saw publication saying they were going to win the pac twelve. And no no with you tonight. We've got central florida against louisville. I think this is going to be a repeat of ole miss against louisville even though this game is on in louisville not neutral field. How do you feel about central florida's offense.

It's wonderful to be back. I love the sequel to Devil's den, the reckoning but for a lot of folks who didn't hear you a year ago with us tell us what happened to you. I'd love to, because that's the that's the genesis of the whole thing. A friend of mine, my co worker told you we worked. We were empties. We worked a night shift in the emergency room at Whiteman Air Force Base. We were in feels left on base in and feel family housing. Both married and my buddy comes up to me and says I got an idea, man. Let's go camping. You know, I was a city kid from ST Louis, Missouri. He was a city kid from Flint. Neither one of us had never been camping before. I don't know where this idea team from Um and I You know, I was hesitant that You know, you made a good point. I was an amateur photographer star from set up. So he convinced me to go on this stupid camping trip and Packed a bunch of stuff We drove 6.5 hour south down to double Stian State Park in northwest Arkansas. And the plan Woz. We were going to dodge the campground because even though we never been camping for my friend he wanted to watch the night sky because he was fascinated way. One of the Vue astronomer, right? Uh, So he knew there was this plateau, this area of high ground we could camp on, but we have to trust past to get in there. Because he made the point, probably valid one that if we stayed in the camp in the regular campground, you know you're gonna people's variety of people to the left to eating. You know, kids and undesirables running around, you know, you know, Let's be real outdoorsman. You're sure? Yeah. We, uh We drove towards the plateau and came to a chain across the road with sternly worded. Keep out. Garbage on it. And I thought, Well, we're you know, we're gonna turn around. Find another way. My body says no, Wait a minute. When he saw that the chain across the road someone had looped it with those padlock and made like a new situated over the posts On the opposite side. This is hang on, He gets out. He picks up this chain and just drops into the ground. So who were in we throw them and found this platform. Drove our way up and this plant hope's still there. It's um Triangular shapes. And is at the height. When you're on the plateau, you're looking at the tops of trees of the forest, and it's heavily wooded. It is in the middle of nowhere. And, uh, We make. We set up our camp made a little camp side Did all the fun stuff you do? You know when you're camping and had a little campfire had a good day, You know way were tired. We weren't We weren't sleeping, but we were tired was sit around a campfire just shouldn't breathe and I noticed that In this town, the cell. So quiz Shade sounds corny, but it's true. And it is that crickets tree frogs all that all the stuff in the force that makes noise at night stopped. And it was dead Quiet. And that unearth me, and I asked my buddy I'm like, so we manage this. Is this normal? Uh, you know, like, he know and He said, you know, Yeah. You know, we've been making a lot of noise from talking loud. Oh, welcome back, they'll be back. And But they don't move me Good on my bet. He, uh He had his head turns to the left and about to ask you. Hey, man, what are you looking at? And he asked me, he says Terry, where those lights there before. Like what lights When he talked. I couldn't see them because this torso was in the way. So I stood up into the step back and sitting on the horizon. There was this cluster tight little cluster of three stars. And each star was the same brightness. Same luminosity about his bride is the North Star. And they were too far off the horizon with them, like trade or a parking lot or something. Did they look triangular? Absolutely. The three stars three stars Perfect Perfect little Pyramid Triangle. Not here in the triangle, and we're watching these and we're thinking Well, maybe it's a plane headed in our direction. And, you know, we have to wait for a tow change course of degree or two before we can actually see it. Move. You know, we're watching it. And, uh, Instead of instead of deviating writer left it rotates. In a routine is like it was on an access and aligned. The Bottom of the triangle. Parallel with the horizon so that the apex was pointed up. And that kind of got us excited on and, uh Just watching this thing is because we were in this weird place. I don't know how to describe what we were. We were our our reaction to this was muted. It wasn't and you weren't scared at this point where you absolutely no fear whatsoever. Eyes. A matter of fact, is his started. The client then started to climb up into the sky. And that's the point when I felt this wave of sedation wash over me. Very weird. Very strange, you know, like Like the medication. They give you before Anna Station pre apt to relax you or something. That's what it felt like, you know, and, uh We're just watching this thing, and then it climbs climbs and you know it's a feeling I don't know how high had no reference point. Is a gorgeous night. I mean, there's a trillion stars out. Sky is blue, because Because there's so much Starlight out almost could cast the shell. Yeah, no way, saw the same move up in the sky, and we could tell that it was a solid object because it would block up stars as they went past. And they would like to see the words. Lights on the three points of the triangle. Hit what I call feeling were stopped for a moment a little second and then started a downward started a descent and as it descended, it did, uh, truly are tumbling motion. December 28, 1987: Ronald Gene Simmons Murders
"On december twenty eighth nineteen eighty-seven ronald gene. Simmons went on a killing spree. That left four injured and two dead. When police investigated his home they discovered fourteen more bodies. All of whom were simmons family members. Many felt that simmons rampages were caused by a potent cocktail of jealousy and misogyny his crimes dated back to nineteen seventy eight. When simmons began sexually assaulting his fifteen year old daughter sheila at the time the family was living in cloud. Kroft new mexico when sheila got pregnant. Her teacher suspected simmons was to blame when they alerted the department of human services. Simmons in his family fled new mexico and relocated to arkansas before he could be investigated there in dover. Sheila gave birth to simmons child. The family lived on a thirteen acre plot of land that kept them from the world's prying eyes. There was no one to stop simmons from abusing his seven children and treating them like a small army forcing them to do dangerous manual labor around the house. This included digging a four foot ditch that would inevitably become their grave by nineteen eighty seven. His adult children had left the home to start their own lives that included sheila who had married and taken her child with her but for reasons unknown. They kept in contact with simmons returning home for events and holidays. Still clear that many of the family members were unhappy with simmons just a few days before her murder simmons wife. Becky drafted a letter to their son. Billy becky wrote. I don't want to live the rest of my life with dad. I am a prisoner here. The kids to every time. I think of freedom. I want out as soon as possible. It's not known for sure but her words may have triggered simmons rampage after his arrest. Simmons was examined by psychiatrist at arkansas state hospital. Doctors reported that he was saying and capable of standing trial on may twelfth nineteen eighty-eight simmons face the court and was found guilty of killing kathy kendrick and jim chaffin. He was sentenced to death by lethal injection and begged the court that no one delay this very correct and proper death sentence. Unfortunately for simmons he'd have to wait another year to go on trial for the deaths of his family. In february of nineteen eighty nine. He was again found. Guilty on fourteen counts of murder and sentenced to lethal injection at his last hearing. He told the court in my particular case anything. Short of death would be cruel and unusual punishment. He sat in prison for another year before his request came to pass on june twenty-fifth nineteen ninety ronald gene. Simmons was the first man in arkansas to receive the death penalty through lethal injection. No one claimed his body for a proper burial. He now wastes away in a potter's field.

How Sabans Absence Will Affect Georgia vs. Alabama
"Bill Connolly I asked our mutual friend Spencer Hall how I should be introducing you here today Oh God. And he said very flatly. Bill is the godfather of college football analytics. So I hope you accept that title. I mean it's I'm not GonNa say it was survival of the fittest is basically I google to college football analytics in about two thousand seven and it came up with basically result. So I, started doing it. So I. I kinda one by default, but I'll take it. Bill Conley now writes about college football for ESPN. So Bill I was all set to talk to you about the rich pageantry the back story to what was GONNA be the most anticipated college football game of the year and then twenty two, thousand, eight just got in everything and so we're GonNa talk about all the non covert angles to this game. Let's talk about the pandemic stuff I because Wednesday evening. We got news that Alabama coach Nick Sabin and the school's Athletic Director Greg Byrne both tested positive for covid nineteen. So as the basic SCO, we are talking this through on Thursday afternoon. What do we know what don't we know about Sabin and how much coaching can that guy do or not do remotely. So technically know the answer to that last part the if coaches in quarantine, he cannot you call in plays to the press box he cannot communicate with the actual coach's coaching the game of via. Zoom or whatever that is the rule as it's been laid out obviously that kills any great visions of them Willingham up and down the sideline with a on a little robot thing with a monitor ipad at the top of it we don't get any of that apparently but the rules as stated for these Special Times says that you can't do that and he will not be able to communicate and the coach himself. How is he feeling a medically? Do we know anything about that Wednesday evening win the actual diagnosis was announced he said he had no symptoms and. His daughter at one point actually tweeted out she. She announced very clearly she had permission from him to tweet it out, and then he was coaching the practice via zoom and whatnot. Okay. So that is at the very least some good news in a chaotic situation. Let's get back to that many robot proposal that you had because I was Kinda. Hoping. Like Nick Sabin would just appear on a projection screen somehow. Like Zorro Don, from power rangers, we lean towards absurdity in college football that would've been the best situation, but apparently, not apparently not. But like could he theoretically text someone on staff if he doesn't like the cut of the middle linebackers footwork Jib or something like is there creative wiggle room here? In College football, there are the rules and there are other rules you can prove you broke. So if he wants to tech somebody in the booth, I'm pretty sure nobody's GonNa GonNa figure that out I don't think you have to give your cell phone up at the door maybe maybe now you do I don't know but I'm pretty sure. He could probably get in touch with somebody if he really wanted to. So we don't know how Sabin contracted the virus yet. We. Don't know who else might test positive over the next day or so but it's also not the first time. A coach had to sit out a game this season because of a positive test, I think of Mike Norval, at Florida state. So those other situations shed any light on how this one might develop. Well Yeah, I think so far if I'm not mistaken Mike novell's the only coach who had to miss a game. You're others kind of Soda speak got a little lucky less miles had minor symptoms but his team was on a bye week at Kansas when he tested positive Blake Anderson at Arkansas. State. He had a fever for a decent amount of time, but I don't think they played a game during that time. So it was basically Mike Nevada, Florida state the Way College coaching works you know Sunday through Friday is is kind of the bigger deal and then Saturday just put the boat out in the sea and see what happens. So a having a former head coach Steve Sarkissian being able to take over maybe that's worth. It really pays off because plenty of guys still have lots of experience on that staff. So, Bill do we have faith here that there is not an outbreak situation going on? Well, one thing that Alabama has going for them is that they are either the only or one of the only programs in the that that is doing daily testing. So at the very least, you know that's not a substitute for contact tracing by any means, but it kinda stops contact. If nothing else you can more quickly address in isolate and all that. But Y- Way College football has worked this fall. You know basically a team puts out a press release on on Saturday morning and we are going to be without eighteen players. Thank you and that's all we really hear about it really has been a share as little information as possible kind of situation. So. It's it's something I. Don't know what it is. It's something.

Can't appreciate his wife's effort nor her skill. This perhaps is the biggest improvement of the whole series Amelia is nothing like the feebly drawn female characters of the first season. She has real purpose. The first two positions move like molasses on a cold morning. But it soon becomes clear that everyone in west finger, including Hayes, his wife, his partner, and the parents of the missing Priscilla children is starved for connection. Nevertheless, they keep erecting walls to divide themselves from each other in doing. So they repeatedly obstruct the best chances. They have to find out what happened to will. And Julie the production design reinforces west fingers grimness. The town is full of rusted out cars and ramshackle houses and everything exists in a palette of dull Browns and miserable. Grays I've seen five of this season's eight episodes. And the most compelling mystery of true detective is understanding why Hayes has withdrawn from the world around him. It's also about how that withdrawal is a response to larger societal forces including but not limited to racism at this point. I'm wondering can a man who spent decades most comfortable inside his own head for June of connections in time to solve the case taunted him, or will Alzheimer's doom him and the persona children.
