"Sense something, and I heard it a few callers ago and I get a lot of it on Twitter and I'm sensing Summer wanted to do like an end around Pat on the back. I sent some are or of the belief that How do I want to present this? That David Bell is streamlining his lineup, And now fans were able to say, See, I told you had he just done that. Let me let me explain what's going on here. You've created a narrative. I know you don't want to give David Bell credit for it. But you can't create a narrative that C. He's not changing the lineup around. That's why there were. He's played three short stops in the last week. He's platooning show Go! I mean, you know what he said He had a Kino in left field tonight, he said Aquino in the leadoff spot tonight. You know what's happened? They're hitting. In the month of September. Tucker Barnhart leads this team and O P s and over 1000. Suarez o PS this month, 9 18. Mushtaq's O ps 909 Casali 8 99 show Go, 8 37 Votto 8 32. Most of those guys were down in the six hundreds prior to September. So if you if you need to you, Khun Pat yourself on the back and believe David Bell is now not changing lineups game to game and that's why the Reds were winning. The Reds are winning because they're getting more production. It's not showing up in the batting average there still for the month in the in the low to hundreds. But it's more than one guy at a time now, and as I said tonight, it's not a solo homer. It's not just a solo home to two run homer. It's a three run homer. There's a couple of runners on base, but look at their O PS and what those guys I just named, are doing compared to the previous months. Nice try, though, because I know nobody wants to give credit to David Bell for anything. And nobody blames the players when they aren't performing. I'll give him credit when they are performing and look what they're doing in September, Tucker Bernard leaving the team in O P s and over 1000. Back to the phones. How about Ah Goto, London and Greg. Welcome to Kelsey Chevrolet, extra innings. Thailand there, you know, I am very, very well how'bout yourself. I'm well to good to see the red. Get on this street. You get a chance? Yes, yes. So I had a thought. I'm thinking this two weeks ago. Bauer. We know he's very out. Spoken. Yes, we know that he'll he'll call people out and there was a game. I think it was three weeks ago a month ago that they lost and after the game, his postgame comments he kind of called out his teammates. Yes, but he took the blame on him. He took on the blame himself and said, you know, Right? But you could tell that he was really trying to call out his teammates a little bit, And at that point you could either really go south or it could turn him around. I think it may have turned him around a bit when he called them out. You know, that's a good point. I just found that game It was Friday, September 4th. It was the second game of double header against the Pirates. They lost 4 to 3. Votto made an error in that game. And since that game, the Reds are 12 and six. How about that? That? Well, you know, maybe it works. Maybe maybe him calling out turn him around, Made them rethink things a little bit. Yeah, it clearly shook things because we're not used to players doing stuff like that. And And and I remember, I think this is the same game is the camera followed him to the dugout. You saw him scream in the dugout, and I think the perception was he was screaming a Joey Votto over plan for playing like is, you know head was up his backside and that at that point in the game now, but the body's professional hours professional, although he's out spoken But you know, maybe that's what it was. I don't know, but it's been in my mind. I just wanted to bring it out so that I think that's a very good point. Greg and I thank you for calling. Thank you, You know, you know it's funny high, and maybe I'm making too much of it. But now I want when, when Vado. When about tonight's Bauer pitches, any play that goes to Votto. I almost feel like he panics that he does it right because he doesn't want to screw it up. But I swear there was a ball hit to him tonight, and he's He's jumpy and I laugh now because I think is he jumping because Trevor yelled at him a couple of weeks ago when I found it, Speaking of bottle being jumpy, Aristides Aquino the last couple of nights and left I don't know what I mean. He's played left field like like a softball. No disrespect a softball players. But like, what is he doing? Half of the ball got past. The last night. He took a couple of rounds tonight. Like he was either afraid of the board didn't know what he was doing, like what is happening in left field tonight. Finley, we go next, John. Welcome to Kelsey Chevrolet Extra. Redding's Lance Lance! Lance put Hey, John. Hey, um, boy. What? It was really good that you went back through that first inning again tonight and kind of went through this sequence because you're exactly right. I mean, That that first inning Could could have set the table. Ah, whole different way. Yeah, going like, he said, from 11. 11 pitches with nobody else. 15. And now the ending of Majesty registered it had that game within the game. That just changes things you think I mean, maybe he gets frustrated At that point, His pitch count goes up and just I don't want to say they unravel, but they don't fall into place is nicely as they ultimately did for him. Yeah, And I think one thing with Bauer and I don't know. I mean, I didn't watch my tongue when he was with the Indians. But just a little bit. He was with us, and even last year it seemed like Even last year when he got when he got a little bit frustrated, really turn sideways and for some reason this year, he's able to not blow things up as much. I don't know if it's just fit, but with the way things Fowler if there's really something Pacific in there that he's doing a little bit differently. But on then on Vados ball, I mean, it's It's amazing how strong that guys because I I didn't see it. I didn't see it live. I saw the highlight later on. And it looked like a pop up off the bad and to be able to hit one that far with that kind of of angle is just shows you how strong the guy boy and in a game of emotion to do that in the bottom of the first and to put two on the board. They had to be thinking to themselves, Man we got to for Trevor. Let's get after it now and I just think it was a tremendous tone center for this tape. Well, just like going back. Going back to Eric Davis is first in the World Series. You get you in a big game like that you get you get the first shot in and take a lead. I think everyone even though you do have the lead, everyone just kind of can Exhale a little bit and get it, and I'm sure is a picture. We can go out there with the lead That's fantastic and write the really good thing for the nine year leading included to it a couple of times, But with getting the bigger lead, you're able to get Miley in and the bullpen and get a day off tomorrow. "The starting lineup for David Bell tonight against righty Trevor Williams Showgirl Akiyama is leading off in left field. Castano's bad second and right Joey Votto, who's 10 for 25 in his career. Against Trevor Williams is hitting third at first base, Juarez, batting fourth and third, Jesse Winker, the team's hottest hitter, right now, coming off another homer last night is de Aging and batting fifth. Nixon's L's and Center, hitting sixth. Josh Van Meter, gets the started second base after hitting a home run last night. Josh is batting seventh. Freddy Galvis is that shortstop tonight hitting a faith and Tucker Barnhart, who is really struggling with the bat right now is batting ninth. Let's talk about Tucker Barnhart and strategy last night. The Reds had Tucker Barnhart bunt. I talked about it on the post game show. I didn't like the strategy. I don't like bunting. I don't like giving away and out. I don't like giving away outs in big situations. I'm just philosophically. I'm not a bunting guy. I'm kind of an Earl Weaver disciple. If you will early Weaver, I think would rather give up one of his Children. Then give up on out Earl Weaver, the Hall of Fame manager, the Baltimore Orioles, not a big fan of the bunt. So there's other options. You're you don't have any confidence in Barnhardt swinging the bat, then bring somebody to the plate who swings the bat better even if you lose the platoon advantage because You're losing the platoon advantage anyway. When you decide to have Tucker Barnhart bunt, not a big fan of bunting. Um, some of the other stuff from last night. I'm not gonna crush David Bell for pinch running. For Joey Votto put Travis Jankowski and at Trovato want to start the eighth inning because of that the end of game getting the tying run at third base. If sends, l does his job with less than two outs. They tie the game. Maybe they still take the lead in the eighth inning. Vado never comes to the plate. Reds win the game in regulation. We're not talking about it as much David Bells get on offense here that is struggling for runs their feast or famine. They strike out a ton. He's trying to create something. I'm not going to crush him for that I will for the Barnhardt thing in the ninth inning. Because I just I'm not going to give away an out and again if I'm going to lose the platoon advantage, lose the platoon advantage and have Matt Davidson hit or Philip Irvin hit or Curt Casali hit. Also in the ninth inning, he had Christian Cologne, batting with one out and the bases loaded, trailing by a run. Christian Cologne is basically the last guy I won batting in any situation. I'm looking for somebody who can hit a fly ball. Matt Davidson to me is on the team because he can hit fly balls. I tied the game and then who knows what happens? I've got to put his stallion anyway, because I've pinched run for Barnhardt. I just thought that the ninth inning was badly mismanaged by David Bell and I get the frustration and impatience with him, and I share it to a degree. But let's be honest. If we were to talk about issues, you know what pointing to why this team is sitting there at eight and 10. At the end of an 18 game stretch that we thought was going to go so much better. Is it on David Bell? Or is it on a bunch of guys came back coming off either Good seasons. Or got paid a lot of money to come here or have had great careers who are doing next to nothing this year. As much as we slobbered over Joey Votto hitting a walk off double the other night. Joey Votto, coming off arguably his worst season ever, is putting up numbers this year. That are basically the same as last year. You Hani. Oh, Suarez is batting 1 15 He has struck out 22 times in 61 at bats. Shoko Akiyama did get on base three times last night, which is great. That's why he was brought here. That's why they paid him $21 million. But coming in the last night is on base percentage. Was 3 19 Nixon's L Offensively. Underwhelming. Freddy Galvis Long home run last night. Let's be honest. Offensively. Freddy Galvis is Zack Cozart. That's not a compliment, and Mike Moustakas has played a whopping seven games out of 18. He's gotten 21 at bats Total. Nick Cassidy Honest has cooled off a little bit. That's okay. Jesse Winker started slowly He's now hitting well. Give seen firsthand Now what I will say about David Bell in his usage of the benches. Dude, you got a bunch of four. A guy's on your bench. That bench is very underwhelming. I'm not really sure why Aristides Aquino can't get a shot. I would give Tyler Stevenson a chance to catch a game or two. But you've seen how bad this bench is, If the idea is take some of these guys out of the starting lineup, who are struggling OK, my question then is to put in who What we can we can pick apart David Bell. We can lose our minds over the bullpen. The reality is this team spent a lot of money and is spending a lot of money on guys, not just from the outside, but guys who have been here for a while to produce. Very few of them are I don't care how good or bad your manager is so much. I don't care how much you want to beat him up or fire him and replace him with somebody else or argue about bunting. Big picture. This team's biggest issue is its offense is almost non existent. And it's basically homerun reliant. And I know you could say that about a lot of teams because we're in the three true outcome era of baseball. This team doesn't manufacture. They don't play a little ball it all and I'm not talking about bunting. If the ball's not flying over the fence, they don't score. And frankly, the ball isn't flying over the fence enough. And it's not about one guy. Everybody loves to pick on Joey Votto. It's Vado Suarez. Show. Go sends L Galvis. And Mike Moustakas simply because of his lack of availability..

"You have 303 £150 men who are lined up against facing each other for three hours a day, hitting each other 70 times. How do you stop there? How do you stop a virus second, can you If your offensive defensive lineman you have to wear a mask? Yeah, I think I think of it. I mean the proximity of people. The center who the quarterback who's under center and every play the nose tackle in the center who are face to face, you know, breathing on each other before snap. All of bad times. Whatever 70 plays a game that's going to continue to have the bodies in a pilot for every tackle. I mean, unless you're going like two hand touch or flag football, there's gonna be a pile with, you know, 10 12 guys, every play of the game, but there is no social distancing baseball you away with. I mean, if you're on Face your 1st 2nd or third, but general that's only time you're anywhere near anybody. Ah, outside of maybe a fly ball. Yeah, I laughed because I go back to over the weekend. I'm watching the Cubs in the Brewers and a brewer got the first base. Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs first baseman reached in his back pocket floating and I'm not getting you a little, a little, a little bottle of port, some in the hand of the Brewers runner. It would fantastically funny and it just kind of jolt you into where we are right now in dealing with this, like mom and getting an argument, the umpire gonna make up first, But okay, well, we are normally we're usually talk like a Monday the Reds won into against the lowly Tigers. This is terror a bad start, and the bullpen is Fall apart and, you know, you know, given the game up in the ninth inning twice and the offensive production well, seven runs the first game and then six in the last two is an aberration. What's going on with, you know a man named Suarez. The plate was raking last year. All these other things you've got going on all of a sudden, Lance. It turned literally in the last 40 minutes. When we find out the Marlins shut it down. And now the series with the Yankees and Phillies. Their last upon the fillies with the Marlins are also off for tonight as well. And you wonder if another shoe may drop somewhere else. Yeah, I clearly I think it's very fair Concern is Major league baseball me to this moment of weather, and I see this popping up a lot on Twitter from other national lighters. What I just said it today isn't the major league Baseball is rooted will bear moment that shakes the league and said, We've got to bail on this. We gave it our best ever. We're gonna have to bail on this. That that would be a would be a shame to think that they put in so much into what they thought was the planning and protocol that would work to let them four full days into a season. Pull the plug. Now we're getting ahead of ourselves. But as I say it's just two games. Think of that. We've already had two games cancelled as a result of an outbreak from one thing so yes, if another team another club or two clubs start shutting it down. Do you think that they will never make it through the week? I don't know. I don't know if anybody in baseball when they put their protocol together like on a secret, Page said. Alright, If this happens refer to this document that says, if we reach a total number of fill in the blank teams that can't play, then we cancel the season. If we only have this many we go on. I don't know that's up to rob Manford. And as I say that I have no confidence whatsoever in live man from making the right decision for major like they I think honestly, as I say that I think the players will take a large step towards making a decision for him. I would fear today This news will walk a lot of players who were on the fence, and they will say, Ah, guys, we try this. It's not working. I've got a wife and a family to worry about other issues to worry about. Privately they're thinking I've got enough money in the bank will come back and see in 2021 finally, Lance McCallister, but But here's the thing right. You had Matt Stevenson. You've got moose Takasu. And now you have Nixon's l I know, you know that that you mentioned out of the cage thing is I'm sorry, Davidson. Now you look at and go by there. Not feeling well, It could be anything right. And we tell tend to be a little paranoid. Like Oh, my gosh. I just want to be sure of a son of the Red Star coming back. That's another team. And then now you've got to take the same fearing the tigers and their next opponent, and here we go again. Yeah, I mean to reduce it simply to baseball terms, it becomes ah matter of depth and how teams they're doing with their 60 man player pulling every time somebody goes down. Not to be, you know, not to simplify this. But every time a red player goes down, for whatever reason, they pull one off their squad that's playing in Presque Au, where they've got about 20 miles. They've added Tyler Stevenson. They added Aristides Aquino in the last couple of days, and they'll just teams they're gonna have to start making that call. Guys come join us until there are any more guys to say. Come join us, and then If you were the Marlins, like I said earlier, you're making phone calls around the country, saying we need guys who want to play baseball show they have a complaint who could meet us second place to play tomorrow night. Yeah, we're gonna have the women playing next like they did in World War two here a league of their own, But even that not susceptible of that, too. So you're not getting out of the woods there if based final question If baseball shuts it down, says okay, we can't continue. We're done. What are the chances we have an NFL season? I thought it was going to be difficult to begin with the N F l I. I just don't know It can't do a bubble for all those players and all those teams the nature of contact in the way the game is, I don't know. I'm not going to dismiss it. I certainly hope for it. I can't imagine baseball closing up then football saying, Well, we're also Clark. I can't imagine doing what what I do before. Before the next X number of months without baseball without football, But it's certainly something that I think everybody and every league office has. Obviously baseball Cincinnati are one and the same. But you know what? I think the psyche of no football is much, much greater. No question from every football players to your gamblers to the players to the teams to the TV contract. Everything Lance McAllister tonight at 605 Who knows they may even canceled tonight. So we have no idea at this point Major League Baseball emergency meeting right now, as a 14 personnel on the Marlins have tested positive. There's here's against Baltimore's off at night tonight, their opener Marlins Homo, but I would have been so Baltimore's like we're out. Same with the Yankees against the fills the previous opponent first weekend. Siri's Lt's in the marlin. So they're done. And now we got three Reds one testing positive and two are just on the isle just as a precaution, and I would imagine last lots going to happen next 67 hours lances on it. Thanks again, Brother. "But one season ah, member of the Lexington Legends, Public Relations staff came and invited the beat riders to come down. For a game. So Kevin going into the Cincinnati Post and I, we got together and checked out a game on a Saturday night. I believe what you did Friday or Saturday night. It just had a blast at the elections and Legends game and they did a promotion that I absolutely love would love to see more of it. And that is after alleged hit a home run, and there were two or three home runs hit. There was a guy sitting in the box seats behind home plate near the nearthe Legends dugout. The kid would come out after his home run tip his cap. The guy would take his cap in Rome. This seats the box seats from third base to first. Your first to third base behind the dugouts and right in that area there and collect money and folks were tipping him, You know, putting a dollar $5 whatever in this guy's cap And then the guy racing around the stadium, hands the ball player his cap with the money in it. Is a is a tip for hitting a home run. I thought that was so cool. I was hoping that the Dayton Dragons would do something like that. And I don't know if they did or not. But I just thought that was really cool. And that was my memory of Ah. Going to a legends game and really an awesome promotion. But what I'd like to know is where did you play Little League Baseball, Not whole baseball. In suburban Cincinnati. What field? What do you remember about it? The chick stir grew up early on Grand Avenue, right up the street from Holy Family Church in school, And then we moved in 1960 when I was in the first grade to ST William. At the We lived at the corner West Eighth and Rosemont. We had a hoop in our driveway, Little driveway, legend and the ball. We set up a fence. My dad did, but the ball would bounce And the next thing I know I am racing down west, a street trying to chase our basketball. But anyway, Jem See Park US camp. Dell Hi Junior High del High Park into Rome. Those fields in Boldface Park, which became Pete Rose Park. Now it's back to bold face down on the river. Ah umpired played down there many, many times so Hey, Where did you would love to hear from you? Where did you play Little League Baseball. And what do you remember about it? Man was a candid park in Redding. Was it Yeah. Where you and Ah, but I'm travelling around and going to a lot of different places. Man, Wittenberg University beautiful. Baseball stadium. Wow, He's just awesome. But I've been to Riverside Park. I've even going out to beach acres in Anderson Township toe umpire but have no field in white oak. And Waterworks Park and Fairfield. Fairfield is just unbelievable. The number ofthe baseball fields and stadiums and That's where the job Joe Nuxhall Miracle Field in Fairfield, Man Just Ah! Riverside Park on round bottom, rode all over the place, so we've been staying busy and that hiss really helped fill the void. With no major league baseball. Coming up to the top of the hour. Don amrhein. He's coming in studio veteran fast pitch softball coach and instructor and really looking forward to talking to don And He's also a terrific umpire. But he's the head Girls softball coach at ST Ursula Academy, and he also has ties to the Reds working with the Youth Academy. And ah, the Cincinnati Bengals. So looking forward to having don in studio. It's awfully awfully hot out outside, man. Be sure to hydrate, but it's so good to see the Reds back at you know, part half the team is a great American ballpark. The other half is it Presque au Park. I wonder what is going through the mind of Aristide Ease, Aquino. I'm not saying he's been banished to Fresco Park, but to hear, you know, Nick crawl, the general manager and Reds officials talk about roster balance and everything, though Punisher. Maybe there's not enough work for him at Great American ballpark. Maybe they need him at fresco. I just I just kind of We shake in my head that he's to me. It just sounds like he's getting cast aside here and, yeah, he had an unbelievable August. He struggled in September. But let's not forget The awesomeness. That is, and was, and is, and hopefully will be Aristides Aquino, looking forward to the 60 game sprint for the Reds and really looking forward to Extra innings. Putting the runner at second base. I love it as soon as they talked about that. That's what happens in fast pitch softball. It's called the TB, the international tiebreaker rule. Whoever makes the last out or if this say the number seven batter is due up in the order Number six goes to second base number seven batteries up. And you conjugate decided that way and I absolutely love it is going to be a roller coaster. It's going to be, you know, Ryan type moment. With the excitement of extra innings coming to Major League Baseball. Hates.

"News radio seven hundred WLW part of this and and again I'm I'm trying to be optimistic I want to be optimistic I'm I'm gonna be resolute my optimism here for for baseball coming back but again looking at this through the lens of the Reds fan the Pittsburgh Pirates fan probably once baseball a Miami Marlins fan probably once baseball I don't think they want it as badly as a fan of spoke of somebody who's team is going to be very good L. A. Dodgers prohibitive favorites to win the NL favorites to have the best record in the National League and in a long struggle to keep getting to the postseason they keep falling short of winning the World Series this is a big year for them it's a big year for the Reds the New York Yankees the Chicago White Sox but a bunch of money Minnesota twins had a great year last year it's it's just it's a little bit emotionally different but mechanically the Reds when what was fun about this all season wasn't it represented the opening of a window what was going to be maybe three years where they could contend in until this franchise proves otherwise and I think this is sort of their their bigger picture objective but until this franchise proves otherwise typically what happens when the Reds are good is there good for a short amount of time they're bad for a while and that's what happened here and I really do kind of think that you know purely from a baseball perspective the the real big picture goal for this franchise should be to not have to lose ninety plus games year after year after year in order to enjoy some amount of success the St Louis cardinals haven't lost ninety games in a season in thirty years that's the goal relevance matters you want to know why they draw a lot of fans because they never lose ninety five games in a season well you might not want to hear me say it that should be the goal so window opening here means it's only open for a short amount of time when it closes the organised they're gonna sting for a while the wrong but that's usually how it goes so the painful part of not having baseball this year is this year with the Reds were supposed to be pretty good but they were also trying to do something it within what felt like a finite window maybe it was two years maybe it was three years but think of what would happen think of what could happen even if we do have a season this year by the end of the year Trevor Bauer to go away right he's a he's he can be a free agent maybe they re signed on but he could walk at the end of the year Anthony DeSclafani can walk at the end of the year you might have missed a year come and go where those guys don't play at all this year the Dodgers traded for Mookie Betts he may never play for them if we don't have a season this year but you were also trying to take advantage of having a core in place a pretty good core where you have Louise Casteel under team control and have Sonny gray under team control and have Amir Garrett under team control and you've got a U. Haney as far as locked into a very team friendly contract plus you've taken on some long term risk Nick Casciano said this point would be out of his mind to opt out of his deal so I'm assuming he's back next year and he's going to be making a huge amount of dough over the next three years for a player who defensively is not all that good you're paying for the back half of that contract when he might not be as effective a player as he was last season Mike Moustakas you're gonna be paying him sixteen million Bucks when he's thirty three years old and you're happy to do that because what you're trying to get from him when he's twenty nine thirty thirty one years old well if you don't have a season not getting anything from them you're also trying to win we have Joey Votto under contract because as as odd as it might be to hear this given the fact that he had a bad year last year Joey Votto's more likely to be a good player in two thousand twenty that he is in two thousand twenty three and the roads are still going to happen in two thousand twenty three you're also like Nixon's always a huge piece this year you lose if you don't have a season an entire year of developing Nixon cell Aristides Aquino falls under that umbrella our guys working out on their own yes is this problem exclusive to the Reds not by any stretch but it's a little bit different in twenty fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen we would go into a season knowing for the most part the guys that are on the Reds we're not gonna be the players we hear that the next time they were good if they they were trying to win with those dudes they were trying to identify who the right guys were and most of those players were going to be here now the Reds have a core and to have your come and go where they can't take advantage of having that core would be I don't want to use the word devastating conventional ply the bigger picture things but in a baseball sense yes devastating I remember before the draft you had folks who kind of balked at the idea the bangles to take Joe burrow because they heard he didn't have enough arm strength alright fine we actually have somebody who broke down his arm strength or amount of arm strength and you'll hear my conversation with him after the eight thirty news which is happening right now this is arnelle Kerrier sports talk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred WLW traffic and weather news radio seven hundred W. L. W. Cincinnati l'oreal Day cookouts costing a little more this year but the eight thirty report on Sean Gallagher breaking now for a price of cover nineteen have been reported plants in Los Angeles county a hot dog maker tea plant in a coffee plant along with a frozen food plant all had outbreaks ABC's Matt Gutman speaking with industry analyst Nick bias on why this is happening and followed up with one restaurant owner who is feeling the financial effect analysts tell us these outbreaks are very likely to continue this facilities are not equipped to really honor the safety protocol which is social distancing and other methods of we are recommending impartially opening of the condoms in the meantime on this Memorial Day those plant closures are driving up prices for restaurants like the boneyard bistro in LA our prices on the host cell level have increased over the last ten days basically double and consumers feeling the pinch as well in April the CDC said more than five thousand cases of probe nineteen were detected plants in at least nineteen states.

"The hard driving music a motley crew will they show up this summer great American ball park fathers will be some kind of show yes so I'm going to go with rocky born and we're going together we have backstage passes because rocky has this notion that maybe you know the drummer gets sick and all of a sudden he's got a jump in all were a winning a couple of things one is president trump who is going to address the nation here on the corona virus and that was supposed to start at one thirty but you know there is you know there's regular time and there's president trump time so as soon as he's ready to go we go to him and then at two thirty we have Reds baseball as the Reds take on the San Diego Padres in good year I got to read starting line up for you leading off in center field show go archy Yamaha Freddy Galvis Freddy Galvis back in the lineup today he's the D. H. hill it's second Jesse Walker is in left field hits third batting fourth and clean it up we hope today is Aristides Aquino he's in right field catching and batting fifth is Curtis Sally batting sixth at shortstop Kyle farmer batting seventh at second base Derek Dietrich batting eighth at first Matt Damon soon and batting ninth at third base is Alex Blandino remembered spring training it's the D. H. on the mound for the ridge today Louise Casteel what is a lot of what happens or doesn't happen this year on his shoulders again Akiyama Galvis winger Aquino because Sally farmer Dietrich David said and Blandino there is your starting nine plus D. H. Louise Castillo on the mound for your Cincinnati Reds Tommy thrall and the cowboy with all the play by play from out in Arizona so as we stand by and wait for the president again I go back to my question that I had and we've had several phone calls on this will be happy to take you as well I see two lines open seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one pound seven hundred on AT and T. the corona virus we have been inundated with that over the last five to ten days we've known about it since or just after Christmas and I'm just wondering if you're going about your life any different than what you wore otherwise we have what you know it breathlessly we hear there's one confirmed death in the United States and although anybody that leaves this earth before they should is a is a sad thing it's one confirmed death and yet all of the hype on this has not just wiped out trillions of personal wealth across the country it's thrown everybody into some sort of panic mode not everybody probably not you I'm certainly not a panic mode over it but there is some sort of paralysis it seems like over this virus that nobody knows anything about except a lot of people in countries other than the United States are dying and there has been one confirmed death in this country a lot of people infected many more infected by the flu so we're either wallowing all around in our ignorance of this and and not really letting it alter our lives all that much or it's a bit overblown and I go back to what I said when I first signed on today if you live your life from a hygiene standpoint it a very methodical very thought out way where you take the proper steps you need to take to make sure you just don't get any kind of sickness whether it's an intestinal virus or whether it's a cold or whether it's any other kind of iris if you just proceed with some sort of common sense chances are you'll be okay here now I was told by somebody I respect in the in the medical community yesterday that a lot depends on your your immune system and the ones that seem to be getting affected the worst by this are those whose immune system for lack of a better term but certainly not medically it gets out of whack it just gets just completely out of whack and whether or not you have the corona virus or something else if you're yours if your soul is set up at your immune system can handle these various maladies that you're probably going to be affected far worse than the average guy or woman walking around the street in Cincinnati but if you wash your hands and I do incessantly if you don't put your hands in your mouth in your ear and your nose and I don't and if you take proper hygiene when preparing food and putting food inside your mouth chances are and again I don't have a number on the chances nobody knows but chances are that this is not going to be the Armageddon that everybody is leading us to believe I think it's prudent what the CDC is saying what and I H. is saying what the president is doing trying to get out somehow some way in front of this thing but it's almost like you're it's almost as if we don't know what's going on so do this we don't know what's going on but prepare for this okay I mean it makes sense to get your antenna up on something like that but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to happen it's kind of baffling in a lot of ways because I I'm just somebody that operates with information and makes decisions that way rather than just you know throwing everything up in the air and say oh my god I don't know what to do seven four nine seven thousand Anna is in Hyde Park and you're on the air and you go right ahead hi can yeah I want to chime in on it well for him in the system I have a I have read in the news that a lot of young healthy men in China died of it so I don't think it's a matter of the immune system what is China and I'm not saying that that we we can get into a debate as to the level of competency of medicine but I I I tend to think that our our our medical society here doctors drugs and otherwise is far superior than the than what's going on in China and we're not living on top of each other in this country like they all are in China there are a lot of people that live in that country in a very small space well from what I hear you at US hospitals are not prepared for it they would not have the you know intensive care all of these if it really gets bad that's correct you're you're spot on on that in there there have been a I I I don't know whether you were listening earlier today but I I mention the fact that someone that who's very well known in the medical community here told me as recently as yesterday that that hospitals are taking measures here in Cincinnati at least one major hospital chain is just in case with isolation tents they simply don't have the space nor do they have the medical professionals to deal with it inside the actual structure of the hospital so yeah I I think you're dead on on that right okay here's another point about products from China something I've been wondering about and yesterday a government official made this announcement he said he was talking about you know clean the surface of things try to get it by cleaning services he said this virus does live four days nine the days he just said it you know that they do not know or they don't want to say to the virus does live for days the government official said that so I do believe people can and will get contaminated we keep buying products from China and no one's discussing that because you know the matter gets of money in commerce wanting to bring the stuff and whether or not people get infected a bad thing well if you remember the sars the sars virus from your sixteen seventeen years ago I mean there was an embargo on products from China and they were held up at the various points of embarkation along the west coast Los Angeles San Francisco on other places I don't know what's happening now anecdotally somebody called here I don't know maybe ten ten minutes ago said that one of her friends got a dress from Amazon so yeah I I don't know and that's that again I don't know why if this is the thing that everybody says it is why we're still allowing products to come into this country unless those products have been in this country for a while address could have been years six eight ten months and who knows if it was tested I don't know but you raise a good point I I I don't know why we would be doing that right you see you see the videos on spring the streets in China with their hazmat suits bring down the whole city yeah so I and it's you know so that is definitely a concern as far as people say you know there's only one case here well don't panic yet just wait a few weeks because in Italy it went from one case to a thousand they just put that up on the internet but one case that thousand Italy but in in perspective put that up against what the flu kills in this country on a yearly basis so I'm not I'm not I'm not trying to say that to downplay it I'm just saying that we don't seem to get all up in arms over the flu ever reason there's three there's a vaccine inspection a win for the flu and the doctor don't put on hazmat suits to treat you when they don't know that's why the port I go or wait on the president thanks for the call they don't know that's why they're there that's the way it was as though they should have put on hazmat suits when that airplane came into the country a couple of weeks ago that was a an unforced error by the government but but they don't know that's the reason why it even you know even the flu shot that you get is largely based on research from the year before it's not like you get a flu shot in October and that positively absolutely will deal with the particular strain that's out that year I mean it just doesn't work that way it's largely something were you pay in arrears when you get that when you get a flu shot but a but honestly you know again I I think this is this is wise we should have our antenna up we should be make sure we should make sure we're living our lives hygienically the way we're supposed to live it's probably a good wake up call but I still think and I may be dead wrong and we can talk about this as time progresses I still think the flu will be an infinitely better by a larger problem for this country this year than what it is that this corona virus may be all about but it's got the country in a complete uproar financially personally in terms of travel schools and I I just think that the more information we get on it the more likely will be able to make rational decisions but we'll see we are awaiting the we are awaiting the president of the United States who is about to address the country with an update on what the government is doing at this point to deal with the corona virus and hopefully at the end of that will have a little bit better understanding exactly of what this is all about but as we wait on that seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one pound.

"Don't. I don't know that we'll ever see the end of those stories <hes> but i do wonder if like we did have a bumper crop of of players who for the first time like were able to know themselves well enough that they were able to make that change yeah <hes> midstream you know yeah. I do think that'll be the case. I think there will always be some players who discover something about themselves later on maybe they weren't in the right organization or they didn't cross paths with the right coach or something or they weren't ready to hear it at that time for whatever reason but i do think you'll probably get fewer turner's add you know guys like that who have reinvented themselves yourselves at age thirty or in their thirties because those players won't have to reinvent themselves because they will have already optimize their approach when they were young and and so that might change aging patterns players always have to make adjustments of course as they get older and maybe just through seeing more pitches you get better at reading pitch types in anticipating what pitchers will do so you can always make that kind of improvement but mechanically speaking i i don't know maybe you'll just get those overhauls calls when you first get into a team system and that's who you'll be at least until maybe your skills decline and you have to make some change to compensate for that and so this gets into you brought in the historical aspect you know you invoked mellat and ted williams in your in your piece and that's maybe this is. It's not a majority opinion but that's the most interesting part of this trend to me is how this ends up looking from a historical perspective in whether we end up how we view generally have we view this era but like how this impacts individual players hall of fame cases because i remember writing about juan soto lasser like the sort of soto versus a kunia. Yes you know which one would you rather have article. It was interesting you know really interesting and like soda was so advanced hitter as a hitter at such a young age like i you said you just look at the numbers he's putting up now and this is gonna sound nuts but like it seems like he you know if he stays healthy is a coin flip to make the hall of fame and you know i believed every bit of that and i think if anything like i- i- tampered down my expectations just because if anything the the numbers would lead you to believe that it's even more likely than that and you know i was having a hard time believing my own conclusion so i had to sorta soft pedal it a little bit but you look guys you come up at nineteen or twenty and the hall of fame like is yes. It's about peak impact but it's it's still so much about counting stats even if you if you're the kind a person like me who looks like and like the counting stat you're looking for is not three thousand hits but it's sixty wins by replacement or something like that. Yeah it just gives you such a huge judge leg-up to get their nineteen or twenty or twenty one as opposed to somebody like chase utley for instance was the second best player in the national league for five years there's but he's probably not gonna make the hall of fame because he didn't become a big league regular until he was twenty six and so. I wonder if the the curve for guys like you know. I don't know if korea is on this pace anymore but lindores probably is a kunia definitely. Is you know players like that that it's going to end up. We're gonna end up like it. Just seems seems like it. Players like in the last generation guys like bonds and maguire the college guys who who didn't you don't get up. I guess bonds still got up and was a an impact big-league a relatively young but guys who got a little bit.

"Professional experience. It's a similar similar kind of thing. It just feels like it's too you common to be anything but systemic and you mentioned vladimir guerrero who had to wait like i would say the blue. Jays held them back like you could have made an argument. He was ready by a like a full year before he got up to the to the big leagues and he's still debuted month after he turned twenty which is incomprehensible young and so it's you he's obviously yeah i said it's the stomach and and just zeroed back down to maybe one of the most exceptional cases in recent prospect history but it's <hes> there are too many any of these guys yeah and vlad of course who's hitting now. He struggled a little bit at the start of the season and everyone was wondering what's wrong with vlad and should we be worried about fled ed and we were talking about what a month or two or three of you know less than expected performance and i think we're all just sorta spoiled now because we do see the kunas at the tattoos and the sotos come up and hit the ground running and they just have no adjustment period at all and i think that's partly because teams are probably blay smarter not just about targeting players to draft or sign as amateurs but also about knowing when to promote them and the right schedule and when they're actually ready for the major assuming that they actually get promoted when they're ready but i think because we have more technology now in the minors you can kind of tell when someone one is actually hitting the ball hard and is ready for that promotion as opposed to just maybe having a fluky hot streak that sort of thing so i think that's probably part of it but just player development in general has gotten better. I think the talent pool has grown. You're pulling players for from more countries than ever and i think there's just more data out there more information better coaching better instruction at the amateur level and of course once you get into pro ball and i think the young generation of players is really receptive to that information so things that the previous generation would have had to learn through failure and trial and error at might not have picked up until later in their careers. Here's the guys who are making the matrix out already know that stuff or they're learning it very quickly and so that's why they're excelling so fast. I interviewed hunter pence earlier this year. He's thirty six but of course he just remade his swing and he's having his most successful season in several years and he said that if he had known the things as a young player that he knows now he would have been way better than and of course that's always been the case in baseball history players. Maybe get smarter about certain things that they do as they get older and they can compensate for some declining physical skills but these days. I don't know that it works that way anymore. I think you kind of are taught those things early on and so you combine signed the athleticism and the useful the youthful energy and quick reflexes and everything with intelligence with information with data and you guys who are really good from the gecko so we've got better information. We're the the pliers are more receptive to it and we're getting better at teaching it so yeah that that sounds familiar. I i swear i've read somewhere. Yeah sounds like a good yeah. I two point. It's interesting. You do hear those stories about other guys. I wonder we're probably not to to the we're not going to get to the point anytime soon where we stop seeing these you know name your astor's chirs pitcher here or like one guy makes changes swaying and suddenly turns from a career triple a guy into jeff mcneil for instance or something like that word ah i don't..

"Down since then or josh van meter even nixon so as been there with him a bit and and even i think jesse winker to an extent. It's been around aristidies. What really stands out to me is how how excited they are for him that this is a guy that they all have been rooting for for years because as has as a josh van meter told me the other day said he's been rooting for us the whole time to you hear it all the time but it's rare to see she he is just as happy this is josh van meter was tangles. He's just as happy when the team wins and somebody else goes for for four and and he's over for within when he goes for for four he's just always smiling and and they kinda laugh because you know as nicknamed the punisher that is is <hes> brother david when he was a early teenager because he just punishes the baseball but we're kind of like i think josh josh van meter and i came to this clues. It's kinda like a build a bear you know you'll see a a teddy bear with it punish kosta because 'cause he's chef. Can you talk about like the most brutal comic book character and he's the exact opposite. He's just the nicest guy like or grady was just laughing so hard about this last night when we're kinda chatting because he's just like he's the nicest kid ever and he's like that. Nickname just doesn't fit but then you watch him at the ball in absolutely fit yeah i you don't hit eleven home runs in in eighteen games without getting the odd wall scraper here and there but like you invoke.

"I don't think yeah so like the guys s. u. At it's been recent players whose records even broken like x. home runs and y games trevor stories hoskins <hes> what i like about a keno is and i have i have a hard time putting finger on what exactly <hes> ah batum says is to me but there's something like very nineties about him. You know sort of the long swing wing you know the the tony batista open stance before the pitch the fact that you know tall lanky guy who really liked puts everything into his swing and there's something very very <hes> i it's it brings back to like mark witton. You know yeah no. I mean it's just fun to watch and and you know i think the one thing that we lost in the home runs to is some of the other things that he has those other told he's really fast and the the one day that he hit the hundred eighteen miles an hour. <hes> has a hundred eighteen miles an hour exit philosophy. He also had a throw of one hundred one from outfield <hes> so it just it's like it just keeps steamrolling all these different <hes> all these different kinds of <hes> ways to be impressed by by this guy start the other obvious thing is like he ended up replacing like he was called up specifically to replace yossi el puig who is <hes> you you know his own <hes> barrel of entertainment out there in right field and it that like those are big shoes to fill it. It's really incredible to see you know. I'm not watch the reds every night but like it seems like everybody out. There's really into this and it's just incredible to see somebody like you. Almost forget the week ever played there right. Now i yeah it's it's kind of crazy. Just how quickly it is. You remember matt kemp for the reds at one point glum that was in the year in two thousand nineteen <hes> so yeah it. It's been crazy. It's this this new thing and he keeps <hes> we're all kind of amazed by the newest shiniest thing and right now tough get newer shinier than aristide's keno and and i mean heck most of that is just because it's fun to say hey yeah. I don't know how serious you are about that but that's huge not not serious. I'm a writer. I love words i was. I grew up listening to harry callous in like you know hear him. Say andres galarraga like this is definitely one of those names right near. Imagine harry calloused. Oh sing aristidies aquino beautiful. I've had enough. I've had enough on imagining harry. Callous saying yohanes suarez like that would have been an all time harry callous name <hes> so like this is not a top one hundred prospect coming up. We see some hot young young twenty year old. He's been on every top. One hundred list. You know was top of first round. Pick them up and seems like that happens once every couple weeks but this guy as you wrote it that he was non tendered by the red sox off season that he was always viewed as tools the and it was <hes> don ecker and a couple other members the red staff really helped rebuild his swing this off season to help him become what he has yeah and there's a guy that has had success and this this is something you eat throughout the years <hes> when you look at his kinda stance or the minor leagues guy who has not a lot of success and unfixed changes something gets success struggles success struggle and keeps changing and keeps learning and and that's why why <hes> he's been able to do this and i think that's what makes it a great story because when i i'm there in the clubhouse and you know this is now a team that has no players over the age of thirty on the active roster not and <hes> just just two guys born in the eighties and both of them were born in november of nineteen eighty nine would that mean to these guys have been around receives aquino for a long time <hes> weather whether it's someone like <hes> brian o'grady who just came up and there's been up and.

harry mark witton yohanes suarez matt kemp tony batista aristide don ecker batum andres galarraga yossi el puig aquino writer brian o'grady twenty year one day
