Airbnb is offering lots of experiences. Results may vary.

"Search airbnb as experiences listings here in Baltimore and you could sign up for print making king slash dance workshop. Attend a private concert in a musician's home or play bubble soccer encased in a giant inflatable ball the company known mostly for its short term. Rentals wants an even bigger share of the roughly one hundred eighty billion dollar tours and activities industry AIRBNB. We just hired a former top Disney executive to run its experiences business all as it's gearing up for an IPO expected later this year and grappling thing with concerns about safety and fraud. Eric Jenkins as a staff writer at fortune. Where he's written about airbnb challenges airbnb basically gets hit from. I'm from to France on one side of his the regulatory issues that have plagued it for years now. Cities are basically realizing over time. That people are using AIRBNB and away bad that does not quite benefit the actual people who live in the cities. Because now there's a you know a a lack of housing units that are dwindling because more of the housing units are being used for short-term housing and Airbnb when that of course just drives the price up on the other hand recently. Some controversy regarding you know sort of trust and safety issues. There was a a mass shooting in a house out in a Arinda California where five people died right on that same day. The website vice had published an article. Oh about a nationwide sort of scam. That had encompassed all these different people over the course of I think it was like eight cities and close to a hundred different listings and things like that. What steps has the company taken to address. Some of these concerns. Yes so they have decided to do one hundred percents verification of uh-huh and experiences. They are going to go through all their listings using a combination of their own reviews. That are already on the platform to kind kind of come to this conclusion about whether things such as photographs. You know the cleanliness of the apartment. The basic amenities are all accurate. And say what they are another question looming before a company goes public is whether it's profitable. What do we know about whether AIRBNB MAKES MONEY. And and and how much AIRBNB has said for the last two years that they are profitable on hepatitis basis. So that basically means that they are You know profitable profitable before all the things like taxes and interest and things like that come into play to let investors know. We think that were pretty much on the path to profitability. We can't know for sure until they file there there. S One perspectives and open their books up to the public so if this company is trying to become sort sort of all things travel is there a risk of losing the cool factor. I think so. I think it's a fundamental philosophical question that the company is going to have to grapple with. You know people love airbnb because it offers that sort of live like a local mantra but you talk to people who use the service and they kind of feel that it's becoming more more just another sort of real estate broker. I'm so I think they'll definitely have to Work hard to to maintain that because now they are public company they will have the the scrutiny of the public look markets and the investors are. GonNa want them to tap into new pools of revenue as much of the town. But they also have to do that Without selling out if you will. That's Eric Jenkins Gins staff writer at Fortune as AIRBNB EXPANDS ITS EXPERIENCES BUSINESS AHEAD OF ITS IPO. More anecdotes are piling up about less than favorable favorable Experiences using the platform in response to that expose nearly a thousand people wrote into vice with complaints ranging from the a classic bait and switch to charges for fake damages to hosts pressuring guests to leave five star

"So we'll be ready for. But. There's no more statements need to be made about who we are as a team in our heart in our competitiveness and whatnot. We want to win this shave your ship. Get everything we got, but they were done with no proven people wrong or making most Davis with play when people know who we are. All right. That's curry, we're going right to your calls here. But let me do this thing between seven and nine Murph and MAC will give you a chance to win six hundred eighty dollars. They give you, you know what's known as the word of the day. And then you go to Kamiar dot com slash cash. You enter the key word then you listen to Tolbert and Lund later in the afternoon to see if you're the lucky winner show, it's kmby are six hundred eighty dollar a day catch giveaway. You mentioned bay alarm. Tolbert and Lund were sweating yesterday. What they were in Arinda Arinda where we do the Niner pre post game outside or outside outside and Arinda, you know, three o'clock yesterday, I would say it was probably. I was rolling through there right around, then I would say about one oh, seven six. Here's a good question. You can do it once we'll do it a second time. That's what I got. We'll see Tom's doing good longtime anyway, so you bail arm system is sponsoring this. You mentioned Camby are get fifteen percent office security system. And there you go. So start with Murph and MAC and ends with Tolbert and Lund the word of the day, Greg, in San Jose. You're on kmby are. Guy. Remember the caves, like these are like a family. They spent eight nine months year together at home and on the road and someone gets hurt where maybe he could get a whole year affected white people show a little of ocean. Larry Jerry was attack hit him into throat. He couldn't talk here. Maybe a little bit of motion. You guys laughing joke. Who's laughing laughing? I don't get that. I don't think you think you might be missed missing missing something there, Greg, we're laughing at Katie, we were just having a little fun playing it up if you know, just the emotion of the moment. Well weren't laughing at Myers either. No, no, no, Greg. Here's what we said about about Meyers. We were relaying that there's been some. He dropped. Yeah. Wait. Didn't even hear it right there. We were relaying. Plus, I'll admit would be be more money for Larry. You know, so, you know, you gotta take care of your family, right there. I got it in throat, I would be very upset, except on the first fifteen. Okay. No. The great totally wrong on that attack. Do we have to say? What a guy Myers is we don't mind that. And yeah. Maybe you're reading the text and he thinks that. Yeah, yeah. Reading the tax. But I will say this. I know he was upset. Maybe took it for me. I said, it's a cumulation of a year. That's been very difficult in in is Durant going as he stay in the new arena and last night, bobbehead with the very least nod and say, okay, you can play and smart to. He knows that it's his responsibility, whether it was his final call or not doesn't really matter. He's in charge of basketball operations. It was his responsibility. It didn't go well he feels terrible about it. He feels terrible for for you know what Katie is going to have to endure. Now, as far as rehab, you know, you got the agent there. Sure is he's got a vested interest in the whole thing as well. Yeah. I mean, it's a tragic situation in the context of basketball injuries to incredibly wealthy players know, pleasant hill, go Noah. I agree with Gregg little bit year on Bob little bit for the abode, the frankly, bag. No. No. We'll take in fact, that's part of the show, you want to have the people to like you have to get get away with you. I didn't hear I wasn't ripping him for for being emotional. I mean where you. By saying, I don't mind guide crying a little bit. And then I said, the one thing I would question, though, is, you know, in a perfect world, I'd like to cry in front of some people who you know, really care about me as opposed to crying in front of the media. But that's I think it goes to show that they're close knit group over there. The warriors Baba's berry authentic about it was, of course he is who said he wasn't. The point is that some people out there. That he was trying to cover himself, for what now you, you can't you don't let yourself naked like that in an acting job. And I made now there are people out there that are saying that I can win five or six tax, but doesn't mean they're right. Or informed or have any knowledge or perspective on the thing about this apologized us right now. No, you're not going to do it. Kicking around the career threatening injury. Kevin. The injury for the warriors of the organization, but I think we're gonna bounce back win game Nick. And we're gonna go and make some noise in game seven and bottom line. You know, at the end of the day, Kevin Durant. Yeah. That's a terrible last night awful. But I think he's talented enough, there noth- people out there willing to pay him what he wants takes a year off worse. Like Celtic comeback. Not, you know, his life's not over believe me, he's going to end up. Probably a winner in this somehow someway. Be back. Thank you know, Marco's in. Pedalo. Mon-. Cambier. Hey guys, how are you? Good fine until all these calls accused us, you're saying that we're being attacked. No, no, no. You're not going to be happy with me. Let me clarify what everyone's misinterpreting on. You guys are you guys were being a little bit sarcastic with the emotional stuff. I don't think you were making fun. But you are, you know, you're kind of poking at the right forum for I said that I said that. And not be that eight full contact. It wasn't hateful. I in fact at the time I was thinking about calling the program director and maybe people with the management but I really I didn't regret it. Larry, Larry HR involved. Thank you. I, I may just may that's just my thing is if I cry, I would hope I don't do it in front of somebody's saying can you finish up with his craft so I can make my deadline. That's all I got you. But I think here's what it is. Let me let me give you my perspective. I think he is a class guy. I'm completely impressed. Every time I see him speak handle himself. What was it expected? Did I expect him to be emotional? No. Do I accept it completely because of exactly what everyone else was saying on these calls. He's bested, right? I mean, the guy travels nine months out of the year. They spend more time with these guys guys families than they do their own. Families at time and, you know, I think it was the Coleman of everything. And he's in the spotlight, right? Do I blame do I blame him? Not in what I what I have been here in getting a little bit crank and not on yourself, particularly, but on other shows is now everyone's calling into question, scallop greeny and the medical staff and management. And, you know, look, this was a collective decision with climate involved, too. I don't particularly care for with Katie Hedmark lonely. You're not talking scallop each cell celebrate right gay. Let me bottom line. Do you think Durant stepped on that floor are would have stepped on that floor unless he wanted to? No, that's it. That's it. That's it at the end of the day. T- knows what's at stake. Body better than anyone else. Right. And you can have everyone you feel like if you played sports, you know, when you're right, and when you can go, and when you can't and if he did not feel that he could have been out there. He wouldn't is it is it a freak accident. Is it on that it happens right after short is did one other maybe any might be completely unrelated and we'll never know but he, he has he had to make the call. And everyone in that group had an opinion, and I being now to be calling all those guys under the rug. And you know all there's going to be repercussions. I mean, come on. Gotta run Josue one favor apologize for the last two guys. No. I can't do it either. Okay. Everybody's very stubborn. And we do the call and love us. Hate us. Whatever nine one six. This. I'm this, this is what's out there. I'm sorry, but Bob Myers, a grown man. And he's bubbling like an idiot get up there. Be a man be hard valleys. But the emotion is just ridiculous. Nine one six. Yeah. I tell you it can be great Naperville. Yeah. If you can find a couple other instances, where Bob did this could be evac Rana DEVE. Exact everybody's tough. Everybody's my okay. Hey, those on, we got some different points of view. Stay with us in talk to Kerry, Keating he'll tell him this, too, because I mean he's been, you know, covering the warriors all year. He knows Meyers. Well knows the team. Well lot of angles to to play with, with the great Kerry Keating, and then we'll go back to the lines, great caller day. And we've cleared out the entire last hour for your phone calls. So we had so many things planned, but they're not. We told Obama will get you later this week. We had and saves in studio Lynch and Shannon. We told them no, we're going to Matt and Santa Cruz or nothing. I'm going to be looking at the back of a man's head in my friend. Mike is a women's World Cup is underway. So that's always something to look forward. What are you wearing today at noon Thailand, Mike will be fired up. Mites wearing a I can't what does it say? "That it's more of a. You know, a turn of a phrase because obviously, putting a lot of hard work to get to worry that I don't if they'll say, oh, what do you think you didn't know I know he put in the hard work, but this guy can just flat score what he does. He is defensively. I'll be looking at that. I don't want to try to hide them. The one thing I do know that, that will benefit them regardless on the offense of in, which is co is been able to float in the series, a little bit, at least that you could if they do put them on rent rent does show enough offensive ability early, which I think you will then go to be honest on him and then that takes an element out of their defense. And their defense has been good. I just love the fact. It's like, hey, I know you've missed over a month. That's NBA finals. Whereas come on back and joined the fray. And here's qui- enjoy that some good luck with that. Look, if anybody can get it done at this guy because we talk about being one of the top players in the game. Because you do have a body black people who they don't want to talk about slavery may feel that we're making much too much too much abyss. And we need to be quiet and just go on about our business. Yeah. I think we want to expand though, the we I think he narrowly defined it as if this was black folks crying out about this issue. There are many white Democrats who have called for north resignation. That's number one number two the question. I thought of is if the roles were reversed and this were a black governor in a similar situation. Would we be as giving forgiving in this situation? Now, my my my thought is is let's let's be true inconsistent. And how we handle it. The other party is is that is the resignation really necessary. I pulled up the state constitution. It. Is possible that if the attorney general the president of the Senate and the speaker of the house sin to the clerk of the of the Senate that the governor is unable to act as governor then Fairfax, Lieutenant governor Fairfax can be the acting governor until they work this out. "Morning show continues now with Brian Sussman. So what do you want to blow the whistle on this morning? That's the question. Four one five eight zero eight fifty six hundred that's our number on Casio late the program yesterday. We we blew the whistle on the nest camera the nest cameras security cameras, it a lot of them out there right now, but very popular nest owned by Google. Which right off the bat. Listen Google's whole job there. Their whole mission. Basically is to know more about you than you know, about yourself. They are an outfit just collects data everything they're doing is about collecting data on you. They can learn as much about you as possible. So that they can sell you stuff. Well, not them, sell you stuff. But they'll make sure other people who sell stuff get your information. So they can push stuff on you. It's it's more than just a little pop ups that you see showed up on your computer screen. I mean, they're in this for keeps. And they're in this big way. Right. They're selling us to the people who sell stuff. So that's exactly right. So we have a nest cameras a lot of people have the nest now think about this is owned by Google search. Why would Google wanna a camera company? A camera company that does more than just collect video of your house right at camera company that just happens to have a microphone and a microphone camera and a microphone. They're listening to everything you say, and they're watching everything you do. It's very similar to the Amazon. Alexa. I believe this is all of this. It sounds so wonderful so convenient and so smart, but at the end of the day there's much more to it than meets the eye. So there was a couple Sherry where was this family? They were in Arinda originally. No business. And. They've got a nest situation to their houses all set up for security. And suddenly they hear someone talking. And they think it's the television. They think whoa. What what's going on? This is our lurks alert they realize it's not the TV. It's their nest camera giving them an alert. Clear bombs are coming in. Now. Okay. You put yourself in their position you hear this. What do you do? What do you do? Well, here's what the mom had to say. Take a listen. We heard a message that we thought was coming from the television. It came on like the virgin C sounds of an amber alert say and then a man's voice announced that North Korea had launched three intercontinental ballistic missiles toward the United States in the United States launched a counterattack. Recommended everyone takes shelter and said that the missiles were headed toward Los Angeles Chicago and somewhere in Ohio quickly walked into see the television and take a look at it. And then we realized that the broadcast was not coming from the TV. So I walked into the living room and my husband came out of the office. And then the message repeated again, and it was coming out of our nest camera. I was like all right. We need to get in the car. We need grabbed the dog. I wish we had more cash which direction. Do we Dr? Right down the rabbit hole. Yeah. Terrifying. We called nest as a follow up the nest supervisor admitted that there had been a third party data breach in the last few days that had been in the news, and that some nest account holders had been affected not nest per se, but they admitted that they had received multiple reports of nest cameras being hacked in the last week. So we're curious to know why we didn't get any notification that could have really prevented us from experiencing a tremendous amount of anxiety and more importantly, our poor eight year old, you know, scared to death. Okay. So that's Laura Lyons resident of Arinda. So can you imagine this? You're minding your business. You get this alert scares the life out, then you call up nest of security breaches, data breach. Sorry. So in the meantime, somebody had a ball watching you scamper out of your house, right? Somebody had a ball watching your reactions and who's to say that those same individuals don't still have that same capability. It makes you wonder who's watching you with these cameras. You see what I'm saying who's listening? I mean, certainly there's somebody over that could be listening. That means there's so many Google that could be listening and watching right now. I mean, it's super simple. Yeah. And you know, they are. Well, somebody's got there's probably somebody's job. There's probably a whole unit and people probably have a lot of with the two. That's the job. Everybody wants. So here's the Arinda Bom saying, hey, listen, you know, what at the least this company should have let us know that we'd been hacked cut to I want nest and other corporations that get involved in these data hacks to fess up to their customers and avoid situations. Like, this absolutely no reason if we'd had any inquiry will that data breach had occurred share when we heard it coming out of that camera. We would have instantly been suspect as opposed to several minutes of quite frankly share terror. Okay. So could happen. I agree with you. And I agree with her. They absolutely should you're right. It won't it won't know they won't. I mean, she should. She's exactly right. They won't. They will if they if they can get away with it. They will which is weird because they spin it like, this is a security thing. Like, it's in our best interest. All about the money at the end of the day. It's all about the moola. So I mean, really if you're if you're all interested in. I don't know. Maybe I don't know what you do. Baby. Some listeners have some answers force at four one five eight zero eight fifty six hundred camera Harris in the news. Of course, she's ready for pres-. My goodness. I didn't realize who she'd been hiring. So she's she's been raising tons of money and very effectively, and she's got merged sales that are through the roof. But goodness at abundance of Hillary Clinton staffers joining Harris. They went straight from the two thousand sixteen campaign trail. To work for cavalier Harrison twenty seventeen so this is what happened? Hillary's people Hillary's people after she didn't win who did they go to work for them. They got to go to work for somebody a whole bunch of them. Some of the top shelters went right to work for camel, Harris. I mean Campbell Harris become so Hillary loses. Camel Harris wins Campbell Harris right off the bat. Boom. We're going to go work for Camelot. And now who were they working for in terms of the presidential campaign Caballo? So I I think this is great. I mean, they did such a lousy job for Hillary. Let them let them repeat that for a camera. If she is. But here's here's the real scary thing. The troubling thing the sad thing because I think we're all really getting sick of this this huge racial divide. That's been created by the left in this country. I've be to the point where you're going to hear it. We got to see it in commentators say every time, I see a maga- had I get triggered. It's like looking at a K K. KKK? What do they call clo- could hood area? And this is where we are in America today. So if it's a black woman versus the white Trump, it's just gonna folks it's just going to be ugly. It's just going to be plain awful and ugly. The divide is only going to grow all the more. The only way. We see anything get better as if Campbell Lewin's if if Trump wins a second term over like a camera Harris, oh my gosh. Oh, the racism divide is just going to get that much stronger. It's it's just horrible horrible what's happening in this country. And because she's a woman that'll be sexist as well. You'll get it. You get a twofer. Well, the stories we're going to be talking about this morning. There's this gigantic as many of your soccer fans in this audience. Rinaldo Rinaldo is the third highest paid athlete in the world. Behind Mayweather and fellow soccer player, Lionel Messi, I believe you pronounce his name. But Forbes estimates Rinaldo made one hundred eight million dollars last year. Renaldo has a deal with Nike worth a billion dollars? He makes tons of money. But he's he's from Spain. And of course, you know, it's it's easy to do things. Underhanded in some of these other countries he can't get away with the Steph in the United States, you go to prison for life. But yeah, you know, in in he's he's from porch. He's portuguese. But he appeared at a Spain court on Tuesday. He was given a two year suspended sentence. And we'll be fine. I'll tell you how much she's going to be fine. But he was accused of using a shell company to hide income generated by his image rights over the course of the last three years during his days at Real Madrid. So he was a cues to four counts of tax brought here in the United States should go to prison, but in Spain it was a twenty one million dollar fine. Oh, jeez. Prosecutors wanted with put him away for two years. But Spanish law. Well, first time offender, it's okay. Twenty one million dollars. So he has to pay twenty one point six million dollars, which you know, he could afford, but pretty hilarious story. Rinaldo? And I believe share. You're the water told me this his parents named him Rinaldo after Ronald Reagan. Right. They were. Yeah. His dad was a big fan of Ronald Reagan the actor. Yeah. The actor after. Yeah. After. That's so great. Well, you know, it's interesting because a lot of these other countries, they're still watching those old movies. I'm just telling you, it's amazing when you visit other countries, especially countries that are bordering third world. They love the old time movies. They love old time. Westerns? "Figured out a way I trained a lot of people in transplantation. We call them fellows. These are people who finish their general surgery residency. And now they're getting additional training and transplant, and I always tell them being a surgeon particularly liver transplant is all about kind of intestinal, fortitude or inner strength. You've just got to keep your wits and stay strong through all the different things that that maybe can go wrong and fight through it. That's certainly what a liver transplant is like, and I have to say I on that case, I kind of lost heart. I said we'd been there for hours we had lost a hundred liters of blood. I mean, that's an insane number. If you picture, maybe you have five six leaders in your body, and we had lost a hundred leaders. It's like a swimming pool. And I went down we've been in there for I don't know ten twelve hours. I was soaked with sweat, and I went to talk to his daughter Arinda was about I don't know four in the morning to tell her that he wasn't gonna come off the table. Well, he was going to die. And that was what I what I went to say. And when I started talking to her she was very respectful and understanding, but she said, you know, I know you'll do everything you can to save my father, and it kinda hit me like why give up we need to just you know, we gotta keep fighting it looks bleak. I don't think this livers gonna work, but maybe forget about this liver that has been through the ringer just try and get him through this operation. And I went back and had some partners. Join me, and we just started fighting for a few more hours trying to get control of things. And somehow we did it was really. It was one of those moments. Never forget, I knew this liver was kind of cooked because it had just been through too much in the operation. But you kinda change your goals and think let's just get through this. And then we can figure out if we can get him a new one in somehow we did. And he's doing amazing. Chesham as rich is a transplant.

That's Friday on the PBS news hour. Stay tuned for the PBS news hour this afternoon at three o'clock. I'm Marco werman. You're with the world. There is a lot out of whack with the immigration system here in the US. This is one thing that pretty much everyone agrees on but one new change in the system seems really out of whack for some people. It's a new process for resolving asylum cases, used to be it was I come for serve, but as of a year ago, it's the other way around the newest applicants get their cases resolved. I the idea is to help cut a huge backlog of applications by quickly eliminating unqualified ones. But it means that people who've been waiting a long time just have to keep on waiting. Journalists leader Halloween has produced a documentary about one of these asylum seekers his name is Alex Bukasa. He's from Congo, and we're going to hear from him and a couple of minutes. But first, I asked leader how she got Alex's story. So I met Alex. Atta an organization called the main access emigrant network in Portland. Maine. He was interpreting at a support group meeting for recently arrived francophone emigrants that's high so interpreters. How he makes his living. He's been in the country long enough to be working now as an interpreter. Yeah. So he arrived in two thousand fourteen and applied for asylum in two thousand fifteen and once you apply for asylum. There's a waiting period and then after that waiting period you can apply for a work permit. So he's applied for the work permit, and he works as an interpreter. And he has some other jobs this wealth to support himself. Right. And now with last in first out he's kind of in a waiting game. I mean, there's so much that's unfair in the US immigration system right now. But this seems like kind of a different level of unfairness. Even if you believe there's a good reason for it. How does he take it all as a bitter really isn't? Actually, I you know in talking to him. He obviously does want his case to be purred and he wants to go through the system. But I mean, he's working with people who are going through the system now who arrived after he did. And he just to me seems happy to help lemon. It's just kind of patiently waiting for his case to be heard. Can you imagine a scenario in which he actually loses his case? And as. Forced to return to the Democratic Republic of Congo or is deported. I really hope that that's not the case. I mean, I think he does have a very legitimate case to to receive asylum in the United States and also he's been here now for quite a few years, and he has a life here. He has job friends. And so it would just yeah. It's hard for me to imagine him going back to the Congo at this point. What is he hearing from his attorney? He actually doesn't have a lawyer. He just applied on his own. He said he's going to get one. But he's just a it's just a waiting game for him right now, journalists leader Hollowell now, let's hear an excerpt from her documentary about Alex Bukasa, it's called last in first out..
