"But here we are. When I can't sleep at night, I imagine that I'm a taco. Why? Okay, so my mattress is the taco shell. It's a hard shell taco. Okay. But I feel like it's very soft. I think it would be more of a tortilla. All right, fine, whatever. It's more like a chalupa or more detail. All right, so my bed is the gordita. I'm the meat. Okay, what meat are you? I'm like a grilled chicken strip delicious. Yeah, this is not an authentic Mexican taco. This is the best kind of taco. This is just some grilled chicken, and then my blanket is the sour cream. My pillows. My pillows are the tomatoes. Okay, I like it. And you know, I have a lot of pillows. I have like 14 pillows on my bed. Some of them are the ones. Some of them are the cheese. Okay. And you also have Winnie the pooh bear. Yeah, Winnie the Pope, but he's just made the Pope. I was gonna say maybe he could be like salsa cilantro, guacamole. Guacamole. Maybe some guacamole. And I just imagine that I'm the meat at the bottom of a taco. And that's what I imagine. And then I fall into dreamland. Great. Now I have a new thing to think about. It's very it's very calming. You can like cream and a donut. I don't know if I want to be like the cream and I need something buildable. It's something wrapping. That's the thing. It's like a wrap. Okay, I like that. That sounds delicious. It's very comforting. I like being a chicken strip. Very good choice. I think it's grilled. There's a little bit of it. Let's talk about ariella and binium. The many faces of ariella. Okay. I don't understand what's happening. I almost don't want to talk about it, but I have to talk about it, but I don't. So just two different faces in this episode. That's what freaks me out. We start off with her old face who whereas like we like to call it the OG faced the original gangster face. Yes..

I don't know whatever this is. I feel bad for him. I don't think he's in on it. You know so. She's been really homesick so her ex is going to come visit her. That's just weird. Okay but do you remember When your husband's ex girlfriend came over and stayed with him in his bedroom for two weeks because he was homesick and brought him briefs to try she bragging tighty whiteys q. That's right. She knew his testicles. Is she cup size. Just gross myself out. I'm sorry that's okay sorry. No apologizing to me. 'now.

"Yeah. Let's talk about ariella and binium. Oh, ariella. He's dressed in garb, like she was born in Ethiopia. I don't it's like sometimes I feel like she's so happy to be there. And other times, I feel like she hates it there. I can't figure it out. So they show her dressed in garb. Yeah. Meanwhile, the people that live there are wearing jeans and it's nobody else is just like her. And there's a guy walking a goat to go kill it, I guess. That's fun. That was a fun little thing. Binium is in the yard. Lifting weights that looks like they look like prop weights. They look like they're made of styrofoam. Maybe they were. I think they were. So they hired me the nanny. And they moved into a three bedroom house and they pay the babysitter $200 a month to live in with them. Yes, which is unbelievable. We were led to believe. Yeah. In Ethiopia, you can't have a refrigerator, a kitchen walls. That's so norm of. That's just the status quo. Yes. And now we're in a three bedroom house with a very nice kitchen and a nanny and a nanny. But before we couldn't have, we had a rock as a refrigerator. I know. So also before she was 9 months pregnant, her mom couldn't have been like, we'll pay for you to get a place done because her parents they had to live in a hotel, remember? They looked like that extended. Yeah. And then he had like all those apartments that he was in a pretentious. With a day or two? Yeah, really weird. Very, very weird. So her parents support them. I'm shocked, but also it's probably not that much money. No, it's probably nothing, but we all knew this was gonna happen. Yes. So they're 5 months in of COVID and the nanny's cooking and she's making a dish from Ethiopia to kind of flatbread. On this flatbread machine that they have in their kitchen because they have a Gourmet kitchen. It looks amazing. That's kind of like what they make crepes on sort of yeah. I think this is the flatbread that they take with the Ethiopian restaurant that you take all the money with all the food with. Yes, yum. Seriously..

"I don't know if you heard this. But vista equity partners has acquired a majority stake in triple f reportedly investing one point. Four billion dollars in a deal expected to close q- two so this week on the big story we tripled down and welcome. Guests are eline chief strategy officer and co founder of triple lift. And we're gonna talk about everything. Related to triple lift. I ryan joe managing editor of addicts danger and with me. Is sarah sluice. Hi ryan and of course the aforementioned ariella wine they ryan his there so ari congress on the on the acquisition hasn't closed yet. But i'm kind of curious now that it's been announced like what are the immediate next steps for for you guys so i. The deal has to close. It goes to things like antitrust approval alike and that takes about six to eight weeks but the next phase is sitting down with the partnership at vista and continue to have conversations about where we want to take the growth of triple lift. How do those conversations going to be different from like obviously that you had conversations before when you were talking about the the acquisition. So how'd the conversations like post closing differ. Well now it's real so now we're we're the nature of the discussions are different. Because we're we're on the same side focused on the same goals as a company. We think about things differently now. A month ago we were a potential quiry and where we're sitting today we are potentially an acquirer of other technology companies and so we started switch gears and the tactics. We have from a strategy perspective. Change with the with the new resources and partnership that we have with with this

Is The Sperm Race A Fairy Tale?

"Tell me a little bit about what you learned way back when about how conception works well. They showed us this video that described conception as a kind of obstacle course where the sperm little tadpole looking things and when they enter the vagina during this hostile environment. And they've done fight their way through all these obstacles and make it to the egg and the sperm. That reaches the egg wins. Kind of how it was told. Yeah that's pretty standard. It's similar to what i was taught to. And i spoke to lisa campbell angle stein. She's a reproductive bioethicist and she pointed out that we use really gendered language to describe this biology. She calls it a fertilization tale. So the sperm is this shining knight. Who's there to save the aig damsel in distress. And the sperm has all the agency the sperm is on a mission the sperm is fighting off other sperm to be the one to conquer the egg. Where's the egg is just sort of passively floating around waiting for the night and doesn't do anything itself. How does exactly what they told us. Yeah and lisa examined tons of textbooks at all levels from middle school to medical school for this kind of bias and she found some pretty wild stuff. For example sperm had this little hat like structure called the acronym textbooks described it as a motorcycle. Mean they could have called. It did horseback riding home at a ski how they could call the any type of helmets motorcycle helmet rights and that conjures up images of masculinity islanders. Tough guy weathers well clearly once again. The patriarchy finds a way but in this case. Isn't the story. exactly what happens. Biologically how it all goes down. Actually not at all. Oh no right. I am ready to go back to school. I want this post talk. Talk ariella let's do it. Only while buckle up today on the show go back to school to revisit the sperm race narrative and look at the ways that the edge and the reproductive tract plan active role in this process. I'm ariella zabidi. And i'm emily kwong. You are listening to shortwave the daily science podcast from npr. Alright classes in session. We're going back to school shortwave. School the best kind of school yes to learn about conception yeah and just to be clear. Today we're talking about this process as it plays out internally but a lot of folks conceived through the reproductive technologies like ibf. Yeah which are very cool. Okay just to recap. When i was taught conception in school it was basically described as a survivor style. Sperm race but ariella. You're telling me that this is a lie. yes yes. There are a few really big problems with this narrative when sperm i arrive in the vagina. They can't really race. I talked to jimmy heison. She's a biology professor at smith college. They don't have enough energy to make it to the side of conception. They don't have enough directional but isn't that what the cute little tales or for like don't the sperm use them to swim yet. Details do give sperm some swimming ability. But that's not a complete picture. The sperm are getting there faster than they could all on their own. And we've seen in rats and other mammals that even dead sperm can reach the lopion tubes so it seems like sperm. Don't rely that much on their own mobility. So are they getting their. The reproductive tract is bringing them along. Oh that is amazing. Okay how is the reproductive tract. Doing that so i talked to kristen hook. She's an evolutionary biologist. And she told me it's doing this tons of ways by changing the thickness of the reproductive tract fluid. Just like if we were swimming in a swimming pool with water versus a swimming pool of honey. You're gonna move differently in these different fluids or with contractions summer to contractions in your stomach after you've had a big meal or whatnot to move your food through your intestines so it's like the sperm are on one of those moving sidewalks y-yeah they're being transported along eventually reaching the philippian tubes. Okay and what happens after that. So the sperm. Start to move their tails more intensely. Which makes those pretty useless movements. We talked about earlier. More powerful research just that fluids in the reproductive tract kind of give the spur more energy. Think of it like taking a bath in coffee one. That's dreamy to the idea that the reproductive tract literally gives the sperm. Their strike is giving me strength right now. That is fantastic. I know emily. The official name for this process is hyper activation. Though that's riveting and there's even more the reproductive tract also has to prepare the sperm for one. It eventually meets the egg right now. The sperm is a little overdressed for the occasion. It's got a layer of stuff on that prevents it from binding the egg and molecules in the reproductive tract helps strip off layer so that the sperm is ready to bind. Ooh la la naked sperm. Okay and emily remember the sperm. Don't have is they have no idea where the heck they're going so the egg provides them with a gps it releases these super attractive chemicals that show the sperm where to go. Oh so it's like leaving breadcrumbs for them to follow. Yeah and you have to realize that philippian tubes aren't this straightforward path. It's really complex and winding there. There are tons of little crevices so without those crumbs. The sperm probably wouldn't know where to go. We were taught to think of it as a racetrack. Right but kristen. We know better now if you wanna go with a racetrack idea at least recognized that it's a dynamic race track so it's not like the german audubon. It's more like You know like more like a rainbow road where you have twists and turns and places to fall off and there are checkpoints that you get ask for your license registration and proof of insurance. I'm sorry proof of insurance. What does that mean honestly. That's not too far off from reality. And this brings me to may be the coolest part of all of this. Remember that hostile environment you described earlier. Yeah but you know. I was brainwashed back then in health class and i and i regret saying that because it sounds like the reproductive tract is actually far more helpful than hostile here. You totally but it is true that there are tons of obstacles along the way that seemed to be counterproductive. Like at one point these big immune cells surround the sperm and literally. Eat them. No that's terrifying. Yeah you don't want to be the sperm in that face off so it makes sense that you and me and teachers everywhere described this as a hostile environment but now starting to realize that these obstacles the actually have a purpose. It works to separate sperm. That are dysfunctional. From those that are functional works to separate debris that enters into the reproductive track with quotas and it separates the wheat from the chaff. Shall we say and then it takes what it needs or wants to the site of

"Look me in the face blink twice if you need to come home immediately, right but she you know, I expected Ariella to be like, yeah, I don't like to stay but she was like no this is what I'm up there. Yep. Okay. So now this unfolds the baby's baptism is at 6:30 a.m. And I got until you suck. If it was me, and I was in a situation like where I really didn't want to get the baby baptized. I wasn't into this religion blah blah blah. I would have been like listen to me a favor off in the morning. You take them to get baptized. I'm going to here. here. You're so funny. I know you would know you actually really would I be like wake me up when you guys get home from baptizing. That's the thing. Why does she even have to be there a well? I love her braids. Yeah, her braids is so cute. I don't have the hair for that. It's so cute. Oh, so he said that he's really afraid that she's going to run away cuz she ran away from the circumcision. It's a difficult day for her because she's Jewish. That's how they make it. But I think it's more that she just makes it like everything's difficult for her. Okay, but I gotta tell you I Jewish too if my kids baptism was at 6:30 a.m. I guess you could give me like wall isn't that weird? Cuz I'm Jewish JC's not an early riser. I feel like well, I guess the kids not going to be baptized. I guess the kid is just Jewish now wage. What a shame is everyone in the front. So I guess it's like a few baby's baptism. But all of ya are wrapped in a fleece blanket like a cartoon blanket. Yeah. I like it though. I like it. All right. So let me describe the church. Okay do it. Let's hear there's lots of shower curtains just right in the background. There a a square of shower curtain. Yes. Okay. So now He gets his baptismal name, right? They don't pick it the priest picks it but I feel like this is a job for Tracy to pick. No that's not a job at all for you. That's a bad job for you. I want that job. No, I don't want that job. I want a don't hire her. I want to be an Ethiopian Orthodox priest just for this part off. It'd be like cats. No man. He's like to be be Solis. I'm like that is a noise that you made me he's just made noises. He just clicked your tongue a few times. Oh my God. So now they undressed the baby and the baby has like a I don't know if you guys know what like a monk is wrong. Well, he had like a like a Friars haircut. Okay. I thought he just had a skin fade know. Yeah, like like they gave this kid a fade for him. Looks like I gotta tell you something. It looks like one of my friends from grade school. He had a haircut like that and it looks like his dad gave David his haircut. Yeah, it's very bad. And I hope that that's not natural hair cuz that's going to be a problem growing up. So they they dip them in the water and you know, whatever. This is like baptism stuff then they put the oil. Yeah. All right. Okay. So now is the fun part that she brings the baby out and I guess they have like an outdoor tent party and they clap and dance for the baby and then they literally make a baby burrito. I love it. I was starving watching this. I like this looks like the biggest crepe I've ever seen. It was a crepe. Yeah, yum yum. I love crate and they make noises that way. I'm going to explain the noise. Yeah do it. Okay when people make fun of tribal people. Okay? Yeah. Yeah make these noises. It's like you put your hands down. Over your mouth. Yeah to do it. Okay. Now I'm not you know, I'm not doing it in a bad way. I'm just doing it as what they did. Okay, like I feel like like almost when they did it. I was like, oh no, you guys supposed to do that. I think I honestly I guess it's just part of their what they do for I guess it's like yeah. All right, so it's supposed to bring the baby. Good luck, right? Okay, they pretend wrapped the baby in the burrito Ariella cannot she like how do you not know where the meat goes in a burrito? She's like do I sit him up there like dog stands on his head City breakdance on here. Like what does he do? Did you have you ever had a burrito know she's definitely never had a burn Peter. Yeah. Have you ever tell them? He's the banana? Yeah. Just I mean, you know what? I mean? Yeah. All right. Yeah, so they pretend wrap them and then they eat the bread right? It was so cute. It was very cute. I liked it seemed his sister says there's a quote she behaved good today. She really good today cuz they weren't expecting it because you know, she's she's intense Ariella. She's a wild young woman. So speaking of the wildest woman, let's talk about Devon and June Devon Devon and Jones Junie. Okay, so she claims that the house was clean yesterday. Okay, I don't think so cuz he was pouring out sludge out of a cup into the sink. She's like, oh God, the house was clean yesterday.

"Oh, that's really nice of you. Your good friends. Yeah, no problem. Talk about Ariella and biniam. Okay. All right. How traumatized are you? Okay so lately I'm thinking of myself. Okay, I think it's time. I'm I'm getting old. I think it's really it's time to have a baby and then these episodes come on and I'm like, oh, okay. So this is why I've wage like I'm not that old. Why right? Maybe I should just freeze my eggs. Like why are they doing this to me? I don't know. So now she has to get a C-section and she's super scared. Okay, he's all the way scared. Okay, I have to tell you I really don't like her but I felt a lot of empathy. Okay, I agree. I felt really bad for her situation because it was so sudden. I had no time to get used to it. She was like kind of forced into it, right but like also like it comes to a point like okay, you want your kids to be safe calm the fuck down like I know but I don't think I I I hear what you're saying. Yeah, but it's like if unless you're in that situation like I don't know how I would react but also they put them all the way to sleep for well because you've set up for the epidural. Oh, okay, cuz I couldn't figure out cuz they're like in your back or this or that and I'm like what's happening? Okay. Okay, so they call her mom her mom wakes up. She's woken from sleep cuz it took time difference, but she tells her mom that she's going to have an emergency C-section and her mom was like, oh the baby's coming. Okay so finds her mom is the calmest nicest person now he's dead. To binyam and he's like listen in my culture natural birth means that the mom loves the child more. Okay. Well, that's terrible. That is so messed up. He's like, you know, I know there's a lot less pain c section and this is a quote but what you get from struggling naturally is sweeter. Is that is this a thing that people think and then Venom was never seen again, right? But no one looked for him. No one missed him after that cuz that's like wow. Okay. So binyam you have no idea what it's like to be pregnant or to give birth to a kid in a foreign country, but you're judging cuz she has to have a C-section. I would rather birth naturally three to four children that get one C-section. Oh, no. No like I'd rather get a C-section. Okay, I would not for sure. Okay. So now what is the round case that is hanging from his pants. He has long brown thing hanging from his pants. It's like almost like if you had a small cdks. Oh, I think I did see that. I don't know in my mind. I see things like that and like hand sanitizer. Okay. Is that like a headphone case? I need to know what's happening. There it is..

"Definitely seems like something that should be done in a hospital like every time I've ever seen or heard of a Brisk been like in someone's house house and the rabbi comes over with a pair of scissors like that does not seem to seem like something you should be able to do without a medical degree or some sort of training. My HOA won't let me, you know, like Bush's above 8 feet. Right right. You can have like a random person in your house chopping off your part of your son's did you born child? Okay. So so as of last night's episode they have not decided on a name they have not decided on whether or not the kids going to be baptized in. The one thing that Ariella says is like look this was a lot. I wasn't expecting to have the baby and now I just feel like this is being forced on me. And again, she took a beating on social media last night and it's like just had the baby people yourself in that position though, right like try to understand what that must have been like the the and also like just allowing the camera guys in for the whole thing. That was not cool. For family members a small room like it was a lot. She just given birth like we need to calm down. Although I will say as much as I'm T Mariela, I give it about two weeks before like I have to see.

"Exactly. Right last but not least Ariella and pinion just the opposite of how people feel about million. This is the way people feel. Oh, yeah, you do understand. Why? Okay, so we pick up with aerial and pinion by the way big discrepancy that I caught last night. I don't know if anybody else caught it but when they went dead get the ultrasound they said it was one week before her due date. Yes. She said she was two weeks early. Yeah and then last night on the episode. She went the baby came 2 weeks early. So what's weird that extra week off from because the day you went for the ultrasound that they're like, oh the baby is breech. Your amniotic fluid is low. We need to go ahead and do there's two other women ahead of you. And then we're going to do yours, right that was one week according to last week's episode last night. She said the baby came two weeks early. Yeah. I don't begin the timeline on this one's a little weird because they they made it seem like she's basically having a premature baby what she really was. I mean, it's a week off. Farm basically usually full term and also he makes it sound like oh my mom's not going to be here for like months. But then also when they called her mom, her mom hadn't even booked the flight. Yes, which was another thing that I thought was off you do in either a week or two which you would think that the mom had already have the ticket boat. So it's a matter of okay. Well, can I get that flight, you know moved a little bit earlier or is it going to be some sort of change for you or whatever but no like I don't know. There's something there's something weird about every single always some details that I'm just kind of like, well, what's that doesn't that didn't really make sense but long story short, they're like, nope, you're having the baby today. She goes into full-blown panic mode..

"That I'm projecting you might have of me and That's just it's regular insecurities. It's that's pretty plain. But anytime I'm trying to find myself. I don't think that's an imposter. That's just curiosity and trying new things. Yeah, I absolutely love to try new things. I like to wear different clothes and try my hair. I cut all my hair off once was the long blond locks you were talking about earlier is now like the short white, you know mop on top of my head. I I just like to I like to play and I think that's the biggest gift from Gaining a little bit of life experience life as well as experience in my field is finding the time and the freedom to let myself play And not be so overly concerned with what others might think I am and I do that. I think honestly, I think all of us do to a certain extent we're worried about what others might think and I don't think that that ever goes away but I do think we can get better at practicing at letting it go at least. I practice all that time and a big part of that I think comes from me being critical of other people because I wouldn't be so fearful that they're being critical of me if I'm not being critical of birth ex. Wow, so if I'm I'm being particularly judgmental then I'm going to think everyone is like that some way or another and be afraid that they're going to judge them. But the only way I've ever learned to combat something that's tearing me up like a defective character like that is to address it face-first down and pointing the finger at myself and saying what what is it that I'm so afraid of and what is it that I don't like and others that I'm portraying myself and is there some way that I can possibly work towards alleviating that or maybe even eradicating some negative aspect that I'm fearful of its, you know, it's just identified stuff. We're figuring it out and calling myself on my own crap and not thinking that it's the world against me, but it's really me thinking I'm against the world, but I'm not really against the world. I'm a part of it off. How do I get closer to that? And then I don't have to worry so much about being an imposter cuz then I get to be a part of and All that all the other crap goes away. So that is that journey of self-discovery right is profound and I think yes, it's important to recognize that it does not go away. But how we even flow and move about that Journey being open to that. Like you said give yourself permission to play give yourself permission to look at home yourself use what you're what you're fearing as a mirror to die a deeper. I think yeah, that's what.

"An income. Well that realization is so important and to hear that from you is just is golden. You know, it's hard it's hard. I was just I just talk about synchronicity. I just have this conversation yesterday with a creative writer off and you know, his thing was I I can't be that person who writes every day because it won't be good enough and it's like no honey. You can write everyday writing every day and what you produce you know for money or or not the same thing they're not mutually exclusive writing every day is for you. It's not necessarily for everyone else. Yeah, you know what, we polish and put out there to the world as our quote-unquote product is different. But that creative expression. That's your gift and holding it back is is like you said selfish and it's me and it's cruel. And if not, it's not what you would tell your younger self or someone else someone that you cared about that was in the same field. Yeah. Yeah, thank you. Thank you for for that validation. It's it's nice to hear that. So in that it sounds like that's I know for me that imposter same feeling like I shouldn't be doing this because there are other people more talented than me. Do you feel that? That is something that we overcome do we continue to just deal with it? Like if that happens to you? How do you how do cope? How do you deal with that feeling? well It's I think that that is a not necessarily I think Talent is when we first started create like expressing ourselves or whatever Outlet lead that we have whether it's music or makeup or photography or any anything anything. I think that at first it's like this way to figure out who we are song and sometimes people will say, oh, I wish I could sing like you and I am so confused at that a little little bit because they sing like them and that's beautiful. I absolutely love when Nicholas things to me now, he is not a great singer by any stretch, but I love it because it's so him. It's his voice. It's who he is. That is why I love it and my favorite singer in the whole wide world is Tom Waits dead. not the best singer, but his voice is so There's so much and it it and it reaches me and I think that that is really what I'm looking for when it comes for like a month looks self-expression. It's like if the whole imposter syndrome is may not feeling worthy because.

"That throws me off off. It's the blue note. I know it's like the legendary jazz club and comparatively speaking. I can't pot. I don't even know how I got that spot because the Legends have been on that stage it and then there's you know little old me but we did our best and I had a fun time and I and we sang songs and we played in and I tried so hard to dance to like release the muscles and like get into it and it was so hard. I was just so in my head do you feel or did you feel the energy of you know? Like what was the energy in that building? Like could you feel that there was this just harmonious like this is where musicians are. This is like did you may enter your where you just like just distracted by feeling nervous? So right before hand. I have a my actually, you know, you know Salvatore brand support. Yes. He's an amazing photographer. He's not from here, but he used to live here. And I think he's I'm like fingers crossed hoping he moves back cuz he's like, he's my favorite photographer. He's really the one that we like working with the most out of everyone. No offense to anyone else has taken our photos. I just absolutely Life Saver his his clean that just what he does. It just suits everything and his so he actually lives up there right now. And when I found out was going I said, hey, I'm playing at the Blue Note. Can you come and he goes actually I can do you one better and I'll shoot you before the show. Oh cool. I was like great. Oh my God, that would be amazing. Like we'll do some Subway shots will do some Street shots will get some lights will get the thing in the streets and the New York will get the New York and I'm like fantastic. So the moment we get them We got a rush to the place drop our stuff go over here do the photo shoot run all the way around city and then rushed to the building do soundcheck then we've got to set up. I got to change my outfit cuz it's freezing cuz it's January. So I'm like wearing tons of clothes and then I got to change to go on stage. Then I go on stage and there's like, you know, it was so fast. That the I wish I could say that I like took five minutes and that's probably why I don't have many regrets. But the one thing as a performer as an Entertainer or whatever, whatever I am. The one thing I wish I would do more often is just take a minute. to sit still and be there before.

"And I was like what why he goes. Well, you know, they give you a call and you know, probably yeah, that's no big deal. But you know, they really want you to play at the Blue Note. They've got a spot open. Do you want it? Wow, I was like, yeah, don't use you. You should call me yesterday. Call me to call me anytime. The answer is yes. I was like don't ever say no. We'll figure it out. Say yes and then call me and say by the way, you're doing them I say, okay, right. So we did everything we possibly we reached out because Nicholas and I were mostly concerned about how it would impact us to financially we had the CAT 5 gigs with the band. We had to pay for last minute flights. We had to get people watch help watch the kids. Everything was such short notice that it's you know, more expensive that way home. So we we gave some friends a call. We called out to fans. We called my parents. We called everyone and were like we can make it and we called the band. Of course. We don't want anything that's going to upset them. But we know that they support us too. So we really don't want to say no is everybody cool with this and they all said green light. So we shot up to New York for one day. We didn't even spend the night. We slept in the airport. And flew back home the very next day and then play the Blue Rooster the next night. Oh my goodness. So when I say it's like kind of floated by like this weird thing that happens that I'm not sure what happened, but I'm pretty sure and I know it does cuz it's on my resume. I vaguely recall that night it Was so amazing. Not what I thought it was going to be kind of like the way I'm talking to you about like our relationship is and it's heaven like being where I am right now. I mean, it's so much of my life has been a dream come true. So like when a cherry on top like that happens, I'm not even sure how to absorb it. Hm..

"I think it's easy for people to forget that amazing performers still have lives, especially women. We still have the vision and the meals to make and I think it's easy for people to assume that you know, that stuff just magically gets done and then you're prepared to offer to perform for other people. So to hear that you you're managing that as well as your career is is very humbling to hear you just know, regular life kids and the dogs and the cat and and the mess I was telling people we've so Nicholas and I have been I said, I was telling you earlier that we've been almost more busy down. Now than we were before because we've been working from our homes and we've actually committed to doing live streams from our house at least twice a week. And that's been interesting even though it's not there's no drive time. It's still been as much prep time and then having to be singer slash mom substitute teacher has been dead a learning experience to say the least. That's the nicest way I can put it You know, so as a will not a singer but as a as an actress performing on stage, it's it's always interesting to me to hear how other performers take the stage like that that moment when your foot lands or that moment you hear the first note or the moment where the lights come up. What does that moment like for you. That's an interesting question. So every time is a little bit different because I'm I'm not as much of an actor as they think every day is different. That's the that's truest I can put it off every performance is different sometimes. It takes me like a couple of songs before in the music or sometimes. I'm on stage before I'm even on stage depending on how the entrance to the building goes. and I think it's I want wonder often if other musicians experience things similarly because when I talked to other like and a lot of times I base a lot of my experience off of my husband's because he's closest and we're on stage together. So he plays guitar with me and almost everything I do don't usually work without him but he was raised perform within his performance family like his mom taught dance and and worked closely with you know, the theater production and companies where he's from and his dad performed even though you didn't have a relationship with his Dad. He was a guitar player and his mom and dad met as they were in a band together and then later on had kids and then when he was born his dad kind of tried to make his way..

"In contact and like knowing that our music or something that we did effected them positively. What what a blessing but how do I don't know. How bout anything but me I do try to like kind of you know, I realize I'm just a regular human being and that that includes being talented, I think that all human beings are gifted and that one is music is just one of the things they get to do while I'm here and I try to appreciate it and do the best I can with it not the best singer in world and I'm not the worst singer in the world, but I try to improve and I think that really if I focused on trying to improve who I am as a person that the music will follow along with everything else like it's you take the body the money will follow, you know, if I'm continuing to attempt to live in a way that keeps me right sized not on top and not underneath it somewhere in the middle and being grateful for where I'm at and everything that's come before and everything has yet to come and just stay in that gratitude and I think it keeps me and reality not heaven not hell but like just right now and it's I'm not so good at being in the moment, but I am really good at just a Looking at what's in front of me? Wow, and again, that's part of what makes you so amazing. Is that your your humble? You know, you could be all about me a girl. It's all about me. Yeah, it's so not it's I pray pray sometimes and I'm not religious at all. But I'm like dear God. Please don't ever let me be you know, like an obnoxious Diva. Amen. I don't ever want to identify as as someone that has that thinks sort of themselves. I just want to be what you know, whatever it is that I was created to be. That's the best I can do. Wow. I love it. And one of your signature things is when you perform most often, you're Barefoot, what is up with that one of them about? How does that something you just always done that? So I remember just talking about being a Booker and I didn't I actually didn't graduate. I went got my GED. I went to book or High School from 2000-2004 and cocktail English twice and and I aced Spanish and not last year, but I did not do well in English, but even looking back at those times how wasn't as much of a rebel off my middle school years, but as soon I got to high school and started trying to figure out who I was I actually got sent to the principal's office for not wearing shoes and they really suck your shoes. I'd be like, I didn't bring any like, oh my God, go to go to the principal's office. More than once.

"I never went. So so I but did go for music. I had the same choir director my mom did and so she would sing to us my whole life and my dad my dad played guitar and sang he actually took you to after we were born while my mom ended up letting her music kind of just be for us at home and my dad took his music out and he he had gained all over town. He used to play at the Depot before it was Madison City Grill. He played on the LaBarge for years and years which so to die later on as a band and a lot of the same page news. We would I would play at which is why like I can't imagine what that must be like for my dad seeing like your daughter grow up and you know kind of take over the spots you used to play and he doesn't actually play music anymore. He ended up giving it years later before I started doing it professionally. So there was there was no overlap. It was more of he kind gave it up in my younger years and then later on wage. Wanted to see that I knew it was possible though. I didn't think it was possible for me. But I knew that it was a thing that people could do and then my brothers four and a half years older than me and he was is still he's like The Grandmaster of everything like he writes he draws he sings He paints he writes poetry if you like does he plays all the instructions and it's just massively talented beyond anything. I can even comprehend and his voice is like an angel. So I was surrounded I mean coming from you and so I did not give your intro Justice and describe know you've got plenty. I really have to go a little deeper in saying that I first saw you and it's been probably ten years ago. Maybe like it would have been 2007/2008 give or take and what was the the place? So yes the V-J and I remember and I'm sorry honey. I'm going to gush so I walk in and I see this angel of a person we're talking is just gorgeous Halo hair blonde just beautiful and she's sensual and she's just like flowing off and when you started singing My Heart like my heart just quivered in my body and I was just like this person is amazing and then read a poem. Holyshit, this is the most powerful singing beautiful person. I have ever encountered and then to meet you off and you were just like this. Hey girl, what's going on? Hey Mike, so down-to-earth. I was just like, okay kill me now to heaven and you continue to be that person like, you know, your career has blossomed and you're still this down the Earth wonderful amazing person. So I didn't gush enough when I said that you are an amazing singer songwriter just beautiful person. How do you how do you that? How do how you go about your daily life knowing month or so amazing and yet just like real. How do you that? Well, that's two kinds there's two kind. You know, the best part is knowing that that our music affects people like that cuz that's just a gift not every week. Not not everyone gets to know. I you know, sometimes not everyone is brave enough to tell an artist what it mean what they mean to them cuz I think all maybe they've already know of they heard this too many times but it's that's part of the best part of getting to do this for a living is getting.
