"We need to do one thing before we move on from this idea, which is, we should probably talk about Nolan Arenado a little bit, don't you think? Yeah, okay. Go ahead. I just wanted to point out the Nolan Arenado is good. So development. Not a new development, but like when you're looking at the top of art. So like right now, Manny Machado also good is leading among qualified hitters is leading the fan graphs or leaderboard for position players at 2.6. Give them enough credit. Machado amazing. Machado definitely amazing and you know, he's hitting three 74, four 47, 6 57. He has a two 15 WRC plus he's already hit 7 home runs. He also has a four 11 babbit which we might imagine will not sustain itself, but you know, but there's Manny Machado, being Manny, being good, which is excellent for the Padres must feel so nice for them to be where they are after the just hellacious year they had last year. But there's still an aeronaut. The winner and second in fan grafts wore three 48 four 26 6 74 for two 14 WRC plus, he's playing his usual superlative defense. He has a much more normal babip, which whatever. But he also has 7 home runs. So I just, I feel like we should note that Nolan Arenado remains good at baseball and that he has really sort of risen to the occasion after that initial year in St. Louis where he was fine. He was a good player, you know? When you play defense like Nolan Arenado, you always are going to have some margin for error when you're hitting like when you have a one 13 WRC plus, which is respectable, but not amazing, but right now he's just really locked in and hitting the snot out of the ball. So I would say Nolan Arenado still good at baseball. We have not yet reached the point of stats stabilization because Mike drought is currently fourth. But I will, I will take a leaderboard that has Manny Nolan Arenado José Ramírez Mike Trout and Aaron judges as its top 5. That's, you know. It's a cool sport that we get to watch. It's really, it's really pretty delightful that we get to do that. Who would you guess Ben? Among qualified hitters has the highest strikeout rate right now. We're going to do some fun. I don't remember why I picked them, I guess so they were being compared at that point. It was like the Soto versus it could be of that era was much out of NATO. I don't really remember if I picked a side, but I guess there was no wrong answer there. Because there's still awesome, 7 years later. So there's that. I guess it looks like I took Machado to the extent that I chose a side. I cited some zips projections and rest of career war, Machado was hired to that point. Where are they career war wise to date if you could tell me that? I remember that there was an article I read over the off season or maybe in spring training about how Ariana had made some swing changes or tinkered with his approach at the plate after last year. And I was like, hey, you hit 34 dingers, you know? Most players said they have a season like that. They're not going to go back to the drawing board, but nor are not. He has tie standards. And so he changed some things and evidently those changes have paid off because he and Machado both been fantastic, but to date. I guess. Arenado is at 40.6 fan grafts. And Manny's at 41 points. But could that be closer? Well I think that didn't Machado come up. He came up in 2012 and I came up in 1320 13. So let me just do this from 2013 on. It's exactly the same. Exactly the same, really? 2013 to 2022, they've both been worth exactly 40.64. Their WRC plus is separated by three points. What a cool. Oh my gosh, I'm gonna enjoy this for a second. I didn't realize that the stolen base gap was as big as it is. That is kind of surprising to me. So aeronautics hit two 89, three 46, 5 83, Machado has hit two 89, three 42, four 93, aeronautic has a three 6 9 Machado has a three, 5, three, Arenado. One 20 WRC plus Machado one 23, but yeah, they are bang on from a war perspective from 2013 to 2022. Yeah, and Machado is a little over a year younger than our NATO so you can factor that into the rest of career projections..

They've turned out to be a pretty good conference. I really enjoy following this conference. There's those coaches again. I really enjoy following these these teams in this conference. What do you make of it. so far. You see boise state. They got a big one coming up against. Byu they're sitting at two and three they. They lose to nevada but they have had a monster scheduled to start the season. Yeah monsters gets when they pretty much been in right there to win honestly nevada's the only one that they've on weren't really in contention could be should be ucf. Should it be oklahoma state. So boise say certainly issues there. Oh line is normally dominant this year. So that's weird but they're gonna be okay The one that really impresses me fresno it's been really really high but then kinda low they lost a hawaii. I mentioned earlier. Stands statesman down nevada in san diego state are wants to watch for me nevada. You know. I know. They have to kim state loss but they look pretty darn good and then sandia states just doing their normal A be tough run it well and all of a sudden you look up and we have nine wins and looking like they're have another one this season going back to fresno state i mean for me it kind of started back in the unlv game. I think they were favored by thirty. They end up winning But they only win by eight points so you kinda saw some cracks there and then that that bled over into the hawaii game. Yeah it's a. It's a good conference right now. I mean obviously. Hawaii looks like they're pretty solid wyoming continues to get good results. The air force has quietly having a really nice season to start. Say it's a pretty good league right now and we'll see if see us you can can make make some noise this weekend. Going up against san. "In saturday defensively we know this team is just getting better and better each week. That's what we expected especially the defensive line. The big question again does surround. Todd sin tayo kevin obviously to right being out doesn't help but scenarios had a few of those misfires guy game changers especially that one to trae mcbride against iowa. So i know they're. They're really trying to fix that. They love is running and everything but sixteen at thirty one hundred fifty five yards touchdown against iowa. You definitely want to see those numbers improve. If you are going to make a run in the conference yeah it's hard to to win consistently with the offense that they've had the last couple of weeks you know. Yeah trey mcbride is great but you know all tensions on him. The running game has been okay but when. That's you know the only thing you you're doing well everyone's gonna pack the box so so yeah you need to. I'm not saying you need to throw forty times the game but when you do those opportunities you've gotta hit them. Those are game changing opportunities so so. Yeah that's the next step that needs to be taken. Because i think some salesman decent on the short type stuff. Yeah now. I tend to agree with you there. I kevin big picture stuff last week. But if you read between the lines it said we are going to lift to expand. It didn't say those words but that was the message. So i think the mountain west is looking to expand. I think that's really big secret. If they exceed. That's a different question. 'cause you know people say we'll just go get these teams slow more complicated than that but Man west is going to look to expand. I would imagine they're looking into texas. Oh wow wouldn't that be something How much kevin. How much like his. Joe parker in your mind. Like how much does he know. What boise state's going to do. Because i think we were all wondering if you know the boise state's not long for the conference and you have a chance to get out to. You're probably gonna do it. "It was it was a great day. Very emotional you'll let it out when a big hit a big moment. Did you play football. Dreaded picture you as a running back over the line. Backer of safety upper big yet. Did you play sports. And then you always had sort of these emotional. I won't even say that sounds wrong. But just that fiery competitive side. Yeah i i wasn't allowed to my mom didn't let me but I played a play. We always played sports together with my cousins and brothers. And you know. I think the motion is more of like growing up with them and playing sports with them. Because you didn't want to get beat because either they'd be screaming in your face and then when you finally beat them and stuff like that you could let the emotions out and let them have it. So i guess i don't know it's just being more competitive and just trying to just get fired up and you know big moments or hard in this game you know whenever you can accomplish it. It feels really good. do you. take that approach. Whether you're playing monopoly. Your car with your buddies always the holidays fairly repented that yeah we tension with a ball for sure. There's a lot of screaming I wouldn't say cards once in a while. Video games a little bit. You'll hear a screaming games and stuff like that But with a ball for sure but we don't do a whole lot. We go to the beach a lot surf but yeah mostly Mostly with football on video games. You'll hear you'll hear hear me screaming in my hotel room when you were coming through the minors. They always talk about your back. It seemed like they didn't mention your glove to later. Did that motivate. You was your blood just a little behind your back It's kind of weird. Yeah i globe was behind my bat. But then once they got caught call up. I've been kind of known for my defense over offense and it kinda like switched. I don't know why it's how it switched to switch a lot though. Because i just think you know w i became a better fielder tripoli you know just kind of developing into a good one and then once i got to the big leagues planning on those big fields. "Wanna talk it over with the all star third baseman nolan. Arnaldo on the kilcoyne conversation. I know you've been an all star before. I'm just curious this year. I season saint. Louis did you. I wouldn't say pressure but did you feel any kind of desire to perform well at this level being new this year in saint louis Yeah i would say a little bit. I wouldn't say pressure just more wanting to get back to playing the way. I know i can especially after the twenty twenty season With being injured and just not performing very well With that being said in new team knew everything so you know it can be a little different in you know. It's an adjustment regardless if you know if it's a big adjustment or small it's still an adjustment something different you know. I've been doing something. I've been doing the same thing for eight years. And then all of a sudden guide to a totally different thing you know so it was. There's an adjustment. I'm definitely used to it now. And i love every part of it but It's been really good kind of crazy on worked up to an all star which is nothing new but it happens to be at coors field will be fun for you. Yeah it'll be fun. I mean it'll be interesting. You know we just got. We just went there. We just played them so it was a pretty exciting agassi. Lot of motion and You know just kind of a log on and It was a lot of fun but It will be cool. It'd be great to go back. You know i love colorado so to spend a few more days there will be really great and you said going into that night on thursday. You know there might be boozed or where did you really think there'd be of and it was. It was pretty much a love fest and even when you left your any fans view. Were you really curious going into that first game. Yeah i was a little curious. I figured you know. I was hopeful. I figured there'd be more applause than Than booze but there are still some booze but not as many which was great but You know i you know you just never know when you're going in that situation you know you just sometimes you think they you'd think about what happened recently but it was good to know that they remember what's happened in the past and when you leave coors he were immediately going to say well. Let's see what numbers look. Like larry walker talked about it and holidays talked about it and you heard that your whole career people wondering who would you be doing. "I was going to meet up with somebody who i'd like interacted with on twitter because they had a different tailgate across the parking lot. And the padres bus rolls out and fernando fernando tostes. They're kind of trying to make him the face of major league baseball and i'm worried about the long term durability but just to see a star player like that he hit a home run that's eighty two. I think he was his second career. Major-league homer so that's a cool memory. When i was living in sioux lard for a while i- nbc. Actually had me go and just write about the home opener against alone and got home. And i was probably a little buzz still and wrote a column. That was i. I don't know.
