"I feel like that's such a baseball town, and almost in every other situation where there's an NFL team. It's always the NFL team. Regardless of how bad or how good the other teams are, it's always gonna be an NFL town, but I feel like St. Louis is the one where that's a Cardinals town. Dude, the thing was, the timing wise was there was a stretch, the answer is yes, the rams were the thing. And it was because they were still pretty new. It was because of how shocking it was. Because what's his face went down injured? To have fucking. Trent green. I think it was Trent green, who was supposed to be like, dude, we have a pretty good team. We got marshmallow. We got these guys. The rams weren't really that good leading up to that, but this was like a lot of hype Trent green was kind of the guy. And then he goes down, hurt out for the season. Everyone's like, motherfucker. And then they started like 6 and O with Kurt Warner, it was the arena league quarterback, greatest show on turf and won the Super Bowl that year. So the hype was so great. And then also around that time, the St. Louis blues were really good, and the cardinals are always good. So St. Louis, I think during that point too, was listed on like, you know, whatever magazine is like, it's St. Louis, like the top sports city in the country right now. So there was I for everything. People had those flags in their car that go into like the window, you know, the rams flags, they were selling those at like every shopping Mart. So everybody had rams flags. It was all about and they were such an exciting style. It's like when your team is not only winning, but they just score the most points all the time. And it sounds like that. It took Isaac Bruce. Total studs, they scored all the time.

"Plan to install so called street sinks around Seattle has gotten increasingly messy since it was approved almost three years ago. Northwest news radio's John libertini explains. The idea was a place to clean up for the close to 4000 people living on the streets. The city council even set aside $100,000 to pay for an estimated 46, but finding public places to put them has been a problem. Then COVID hit. And now government red tape has slowed the effort to a trickle. Since its approval in late 2020, the Seattle times reports as few as 5 street sinks have been installed at the same time a hepatitis a outbreak hit the streets as did a highly contagious bacterial disease known as shigella. Community groups have gotten involved, but strict government controls are still an obstacle. John libertine, northwest, news radio. Next week, law enforcement agencies across our state will ramp up patrols on area roads looking for distracted drivers. This is all a part of distracted driving awareness month. Washington traffic safety commissions annual observation survey found the statewide distracted driving rate rose to 9.3% last year. They also found the use of handheld devices is the leading type of distraction across all road types. Our observer saw people doing their makeup. They saw people eating. When we have young drivers, oftentimes, other young writers in the car become that distraction, changing your music on your radio or even on your phone. Lots of distractions, the emphasis patrols start this coming Monday, which is April 3rd. That's kombu four Steve mccarran. There's a new law on the books that requires future laws to contain Oxford commas, some King County council members proposed the ordinance, which would add to future legislation. What's also called a serial comma. That's the comma we Americans usually skip before the and when we're writing a list of words or phrases, council staffer, Aaron osen says it would provide clarity and avoid ambiguity in legislation. I personally have had to rewrite some sections of code to avoid using a serial comma. And this change will allow new items to be added to lists in the code more simply. "Full back? The two names I keep throwing out. If it's in free agency, it's Elijah penny. If it's in the draft, it's Connor Hayward. Both of those guys are utility fullbacks. They're just aren't a ton of those blocking fullbacks available anymore. They might really have to dig to find one. When I say there isn't one in the draft, the board I use goes, I think it was like 550 players deep. And trust me, I'm not necessarily familiar with every player on the board, but I sort it by position a lot. Connor Hayward's the only fullback. So it goes 566 players deep. There's board. Shout out Isaiah land linebacker Florida a and M. What was I saying? Yeah, so if they want to find a true blocking fullback and they're not doing it in free agency, they're going to have to go to Canada. They're going to be the international pathway program again. Right. I mean, this is beyond the USFL at this point. Japan plays college football. I know Norway does. I'm missing an obvious one. Arena league. But yeah, I mean, that might be what you're talking about. There's guys out there. There's just, you know, we get in the weeds, right? With this stuff, yeah, we're talking beyond our knowledge. Than that. Which is why I think they're going utility. I think they would have kept Jakob Johnson if they wanted that role. I think they're going to go with the utility fullback. Ben mason real quick, not on the roster anymore. He signed a futures deal with the ravens. And that's the other thing. Yeah. Some of these guys are going to get cut. They may just be like, eh, we'll throw whoever will throw William Sherman at fullback throughout camp and then somebody will break free and we'll sign them off for practice squad or claim him on waivers or whatever before the season starts. That could very much be the plan too. Yeah, as much as it drives me crazy just from a big picture standpoint and the fact that you're just your maximum point production is so much lower as a team when you run a team out of 21 regular the way the Patriots have in the past couple of years. But their production and their efficiency at a 21 personnel has been the best out of any personnel grouping that they've been in pretty much going on since the 2018 season, right? It's been three or four years now where 21 has been their most productive grouping. Why? Because they're averaging over four yards per carry on the ground when they're in 21. And number two, their play action passing game is fantastic added 21 personnel. And they leave the full back through the whole, they get everybody to jump up, they hit the tight ends and their slot receivers crossing over the middle. It's a difficult play to stop. They've been running it like the same way for ten years. Now,.

"Carbine reimagined. All right, you're up, Sal. Hey, have you ever seen a rugby game in person? In college, he did. Your college had a club rugby. Yeah, like a club team. Yeah. My son is on the high school rugby team, and this is after like a grueling football season, like 13 games or something crazy. I was like, just throw the javelin or something. Just don't mess in your body up even more. It's like, nah, my buddies are playing rugby. I'm like, all right, I finally got to see a game. And while they lost 61 5. So let me just say that. But 61 to 5. 61 to 5 because did they come bad? They were getting 49 nap. But if you're bad, you don't, the team that scores, here's how it's different from football in many ways, but the team that scores gets the ball back. So you could go, you can go an hour without touching the ball at all. And if you have a team that's a brute. And these guys, and the other thing is my son wears number four, but it goes by position. So 6 other kids are wearing number four. And they're oh my God. They're built like him and they all have like green cleats and they have like the skull cap that you wear. That's in place in lieu of a helmet. And it's a messed up game. It's really like you just sit there and pray you don't no one steps on your nose for an hour and a half until it's over. But so he's wearing a mouth pace, that's it. Mouthpiece. It's like a swim cap. It's not even a helmet, but and you just don't want to take a knee to the face. It's a really crazy game, but I did enjoy it after, you know, aside from the 61 5 dropping, it is kind of fun to watch once you figure out what's going on. There you go. I'm just saying, catch a rugby game. So your son is now pushed now or rugby player to girls like this? Not that I could tell so far. The seats and there weren't too many watching. Rugby had you know, so like it's not bad to get tackled because you kind of the other team has to wait for you to pass the ball back. And then you could just make your way up the field. I don't know. It's like watching a war. My son wants to play. Yeah, he should play. He loves it. What's going on with Jack Romo icono? What's he doing now that now that Big Ben's gone? How is he? How does he torture you? You're right. Well, now he's very very much into the USFL and arena league and a lot of leagues that no one gives a shit about and constantly bringing it up and how Coachella valley and starting to has an arena league coming in there. And minor league hockey. All these leagues that I don't care about, but I have to keep up with to make them happy. My parent.

"It's indoor. Luckily me, I played an almost every level football arena, 1111 outdoor and then CFO, which is 12 and 12. So, the one thing they all have in common for one is the object is to score touchdowns and, you know, have more testosterone than your opponent. There's some small differences in each of the league, you know, arenas, you don't need regular football, the traditional we all know is loving and loving. And then CFL's 12 one 12. So the reason why that is because the amount of players on each level is hard to feel shrink. So you don't need an arena. The field is very small. 11 or 11 traditional football, you know, it's the size we're used to and in 12 and 12 in the CFL is because the field is much bigger. Each leak has its own, you know, unique rules, like the irina league. You know, you have the one high motion that a lot of people are not used to, and they also have some rules restrictions where, you know, players can only go left and right, rather than going up and down the field. CFL is only three downs where we're used to four downs in arena in traditional football league. Those are some small things that are different. You know at the end of the day, it's all about making pleas and just outscoring your opponent. So that's the one thing that, you know, I was able to do, you know, make plays and help outscore my opponent weather. I was in CFL. NFL order arena league out there to do that. You know, help my team, whatever team I was on, you know, being a winning position. I love how you are able to talk about being able to adapt to all these different rules and regulations and having a smaller field versus a bigger field. So that goes to speak volumes in itself at how great of an athlete you are..

"A fleet a lot, I paid a plane almost every other game, playing the championship game and I had a big role. Favorite moment was when I played the playoff game we played Jacksonville. That was the game for us in order to clinch the playoffs. So they played me in that game, but you touched down, I do a touchdown, I ran a touchdown and still different for us to get into playoffs. So that was like my moment in an arena league because I did something big. My first time, my first time playing arena bowl. This is not your typical core show. It's real, it's raw. I was there for Hurricane Katrina was there when you know the city kind of Came back to life if you will, and to be part of the Saint Organization to win that Super Bowl and see what it did for the Gulf. South was awesome. I wasn't looking to leave. That was a dream job to be the quarterback coach with the Saints working under Sean Payton, working with a guy like Drew Brees every day, but Just like I told the student athletes that we recruit on a yearly basis. I just couldn't ignore that feeling in my gut on my alma mater was down a little bit at that time, and I wanted to do my part to see if I can come back to a place that was special to me. And maybe try to help rebuild it. Maybe, you know, so that was such a challenge that you know, I just couldn't ignore that feeling in my gut when they presented me with the opportunity to come back, and I wanted to come make a difference and part of my roots in the arena League and trying to help build players back up. After they've been cutting the NFL and they thought, you know there was they were down and out, never counted down in the dumps. So I loved the challenge that you know, to come back to ball state and and then try to build something special, and I love having an opportunity to try to impact. 18 1920 year old young man to be difference makers in our world and want to help them all chase their dream. But I also want to help them be a difference maker in the world, and that's the part I love about college football. It's certainly working Mike, newest head coach of ball State, My tear point You had amazing situation with the Saints and again. You played quarterback in college and were very successful and you've worked with some really good quarterbacks along the way. Including Drew Brees. In fact, what was your biggest takeaway from your time with him? You know, the best part about grew Berries. I think his career and what he does on the field when everybody has a chance to watch them on TV. That speaks for itself. But he's such a phenomenal human being and to watch. You know, it made such a lasting impact with me. We would play a game. In the Superdome. It might have been over 4 30 or five o'clock and by the time you know all the postgame, uh, press conferences Rover family time we had a chance to get something to eat. He would take all the little kids whether it's his own kids. Kids of staff members, my son, he'd go back down to the game feel that he would throw the ball on that field with those little kids. For however long it took an hour or two hours and That left left such a lasting impression on my son and to see him No. One that we just got done playing a game and I know he's tired. Don't know which probably ready to go home and decompressed and Unwind a little bit. He's down there with the kids, and that just is such a remarkable human being. And, uh, I'm just he really is a better person than he is player and I know that's hard to believe, because his career was so special talking ball state football for a few more moments, Mike, I've got to ask about your quarterback Drew plate. He's been putting up numbers for years. What is it about him and his game that makes him special? Yeah, I love the swagger that he plays the game with, you know, when you play quarterback certainly got to be a confident on your abilities and you've got to believe in yourself, but he has a great swagger about himself. That's still humble and you know when, when he's out there, man. He is an ultimate competitor. He works extremely hard in the film room when the lights are off, and nobody's watching because he knows that part of the preparation is going to make the difference form on game day, and I'm just proud of them because you know he did something that's never been done here at Ball State, help them lead His football team last year in our program to the First bowl went in school history, and so, um, you know unfortunate to be able to work with a guy like that every day. He's still hungry, though, and you know nobody in our programs fat and happy after You know, accomplishing, you know a special year last year, and so it's great to be around the group of humble guys that are just ready to go back to work. And certainly, um, you know, Drew is one of those guys that is at the top of that list. So finally, you've got a great challenge, but a great opportunity Saturday. You've got Penn State in their place. What is your message to your team going into that game? And what is the key? Yeah, You know, Penn State coach Franklin's done a great job. That roster is loaded from top to bottom. Extremely talented, very impressive Opening game won at Wisconsin on the road. Really a big 10 slugfest type of game. But this will be the first time since 2019 that there will be 106,000 strong and Beaver Stadium. And so we got to handle the noise, which we've practiced our tail off all week long on making it as loud and obnoxious as we possibly can in our stadium with music or the crowd noise, everything we could possibly get our hands on. But they put their uniform on the same way that we do and yes, they're talented, but it's about us, making sure that we clean up our mistakes from game number one, and we put our best brand of ball state football out there on the field and And we've got to build the countenance of three ft. Feel confident in our game plan, and we've studied it. We just got to go out man and cut it loose and we can compete with anybody on underwear. Guys believe that and we're going to respect him because great program with a lot of great talent, and James Franklin's been a winner everywhere he's been, and so it's a great challenge. This is why you play the game, though, and this is a great opportunity for us as a program. Great opportunity. Great challenge for a great opportunity. I like it. I like it a lot. You get ball state at number 11 Penn State, He is the head football coach at Boston. Eight in his sixth season with the Cardinals, and they're coming off a huge year with a big opportunity this weekend. Mike knew my guess my great to talk to you. Thanks so much for that good luck this weekend and really good to have you on the show. Well, Jim, thank you so much for having you head football could from ball state on your show, and certainly big fan of yours And thank you again, just for the opportunity. Not appreciate that, Mike. Thanks for making time for the opportunity and very happy to give it to you. You made the show better. Appreciate that. Mike knew this is what we do here, right? It's we take a look at these things. And when you look at what he's accomplished a ball state when you look at what he inherited and what he's done. You know, Frankly, part of me is very happy to have a guy like that on and part of me feels that you've got to give people like that that opportunity and that platform because they've earned it. Hence the head football coach of ball state like when he says, you know, thanks for having the head coach at ball state on the program, my responses coach Good to have you on the program. You make the show better, and you definitely earned that spot. So we think about these things we think about who we put on where we put them on and why we put them on. There is a reason for all of these things. Now. On top of that the good news is the beef segment makes its triumphant return. Don't act like you don't have beefs. "Parts people at O'Reilly Auto Parts I mentioned We're going back back in our number one. So that's exactly what we'll do. We're joined now by the head football coach at Ball State sixth season with the Cardinals led ball state to the Mac Championship last season. Mac offensive Player of the year and an M V. P as a player, ball states one and along the year and they've got a big one there at number 11 Penn State Saturday. Mike New is my guest, Mike. It's good to have you on. How are you? I'm doing great. Jim. Thank you so much for having me on. Thanks so much for doing it. Mike. Appreciate it. So before I talked about Penn State, let me ask you about the win over western Illinois in the season opener. What did you make of how your team showed up in that game? It was great to start the season with the wind. Certainly we got some things after you reflect back on the game that we definitely need to clean up to play our best version of football, but certainly glad that game number one is in the books. And, you know, I had a chance to watch the tape with the guys. But Lot of things, though, that we need to clean up before we get to Penn State and face a tough challenge here this coming Saturday. So I figured you might say that that there might be some things to clean up because they're always are but How significant was it that he had several players record first, like a first career sack of first TV, First scientist and more That's that's the part. That's awesome. Because some of our young players, we had a significant number of returning starters, a lot of guys that had playing experience, but to see some of the guys, uh, that recorded some first as you mentioned it was exciting to see that because you're young players, you know, they work hard to develop. They work hard in spring practice, they work hard and summer workout program. To to see those guys take advantage of their opportunities when they get them. That's what you like to see on an opening game like that, and certainly something for us that we can build on Boston head football coach Mike New joining us, Mike, I know you're focused on Penn State and you know I get there in a minute, but If we could go back for a moment, you're coming off a season where the program once were First Conference championship since 1996. When you look back on last season, what kind of memories do immediately come to mind? Yeah, I think about all the hard work that went into a gym. You know a lot of the guys that were here on that football team last year and then took advantage of the additional year granted by the W A lot of these young men were here in 2000 and 17. Now that was my second season here at ball state. We were getting beat pretty handsomely by 40 points a game and you know to to these young men's credit. They stayed here. They didn't put their name in the transfer portal. They stuck by each other's side. They just kept working just to think about all the hard work that went into trying, you know, to have in a moment like that last year when we held up that championship trophy in Detroit. And then we went to the Bulls game there in Arizona to have our first bowl win in school history that really the credit goes to those young men for just staying here in such a great lesson for down the road in life when you do face some adversity, man. You've got to attack it head on, and I'm proud of them for that, And I'm proud of just the standards that we've established as a program because certainly we went through a lot of growing pains, but that made all those growing pains worth it. So Mike in the way, you kind of answer what I was asking about next, But in terms of 2017, As you point out, there was some really tough times and trying times some tough losses. I'm curious. How exactly did you go about processing those losses? And how were you able to go about digging out? A lot of tough postgame locker room speeches because there wasn't a lot of positive things to discuss in the locker room following those losses, but just kept emphasizing the stay positive and just keep working hard and one day all those tough times that we were encountering at that time they would all pay off. And I just kept believing that and I just kept coming in every single morning with a smile on my face. You know one of the things I do every morning. Was greet every player when they come in the morning at six every every morning at 6 30 to arrive at the facility and I greet him with a fist bump and I just look them in their eye and I want to make sure they're in a good head space and Have a good look on their face and just tried to, you know a lot of tender love and care every single day, and but they knew I cared about him. They knew I had their back and you know, we had to do it together and really just focused on those little things that you know you can control and practice every day. It starts with accountability. Make sure every gas there on time. Where were you supposed to be? Make sure we make that practice count be the best version of ourselves and then just keep stacking days and that's really how we got out of it. You know, we just we talked about getting out of the mud at one point time around here if you can imagine being sunken. And wet mud. It's hard to get out of that. But you really have to focus to get your foot out of that. You've got to dig out of that in order to make it happen. And I'm just just proud of that. Because it there was no magic recipe other than just rolling up our sleeves and getting to work. Mike New joining us. I love that. I like that part. Especially Mike. I mean, you're the guy who the leader You're gonna be the guy that they take their lead from. So if you're the one who's going to meet these guys greet these guys every single morning with a smile on your face in a fist bump to make sure they're in the right headspace. What do you do on that rare day when you're not in the right headspace who greets you with that smile on that fist bump? I got to get it. I got to make sure that I don't show up that way every day, but I have such a great staff here in my chief of staff here, Byron Ellis. We've been together for a long time. I coached Arena football back in the day in New Orleans. But we were together. He's given me many kept talks. Uh, but, you know, behind closed doors, whether it be my officer, his office But you've given me some pep tops talks because he can. He can recognize one Maybe I'm coming from the car He can. He can see you know, with his own eyes, Just like I greet people with a fist bump. You can see when I might be down a little bit. And so he helps get me out of that funk pretty quickly. Boston head coach Mike New joining us. I was going to ask you about your time in the Arena league. So take me back to that your first job or when you first took this job. You were a head coach in the Arena League, and at the time ball state reached out you were the quarterbacks coach with the Saints and you worked with Drew Brees and Sean Payton. It would seem like that was a pretty good gig, right? So what was it like? When your arm a moderate did reach out? Yeah..

"And the new fame control football league FCF they I didn't hear anything about them until quavo the rapper. He owns one of the teams the glacier boys. He ended up messaging me on Instagram. He DM me. He asked me to dare my still trying to you know play ball or you know song with a team. I would say yeah heck yeah. He's like so completely from my team. And he sent me the video and everything and I just thought it was a joke. So I was just like yeah I don't know if I'm being playing that but even when we get hurt something like that his life is a good opportunity. So like the outer appreciated though. So like a week later. He messages me again. He said what can I do to get you down here? So what he said that is just like okay he really won't be down here and his quavo so just like you know what? I'll do it. He's like yeah we pay in his league and all that stuff. I felt like you know what I'll do it. So I gave my number he called me we chatted. He got me to follow with Richard Sherman the YouTube star Donald destroying and we just talked and chatted and they ended up finding me as a quarterback for the glacier boys. I played in that league finished the season January. He gave 7 game season January to the end of March got the experience plead. I ended up signing with this arena team all the empire. They brought me in and we're having 8 game season shortened season. So we just had our first game last week in the 8 game season up until the second week of August and no I'm up here learning this game a little bit similar to faint control but it's a little different so I'm up here learning behind quarterback. Like a 17 year event you won three greens four MVPs. He's got a lot of activists so up here learning about him playing this open so you know get some film and get opportunity to play here before you don't fall in you know start getting ready for the XFL. So you also just recently signed with a team in Albany called the Albany empires correct? Yes. And will that be starting up this fall so you're currently in your off season? No our season started. So we had our camp was two weeks ago and we just had our first game this past this past Saturday and we have a game every Saturday up until the second week of August. That's the end of the season. Oh that's very exciting. So it's kind of like is it more so a team that's getting you prepped or in shape to stay in shape for upcoming seasons? Yeah basically so as a pro league as the national arena league. So you know it's pro football you pay and everything. But it's not the highest level. So basically you had a lot of guys do. Some dudes come here make a career out of it but if I do whose young is me you know I'm coming here you know just play get some film so I can make.

"Well they have run. Some live shows a tavern. They have been really of all the promotions in the carolinas They have been. I want to say the most aggressive They have received some serious financial. Backing from joe mall sue owns many car dealerships. Matter of fact they're gonna start running wrestling shows at his car dealerships. He's also one of the owners of the charlotte thunder and again starting on april seventeenth. I told you there was a lot of wrestling in that day. Starting on april seventeenth. I've contacted the charlotte thunder and starting april seventeenth before their home games. Now their home games again. This is all stuff. The patrons of ari heard their home games originally scheduled at three. Pm all those start towns got moved to seven thirty. They did not offer refunds to fans who bought tickets to three o'clock games. Thanks county bogus. Like 'cause that's a big deal especially last week. It was easter weekend. I had a friend. He bought tickets. They wouldn't refund well. That's a big deal if you're driving two and a half hours it's easy to get to three o'clock game seven thirty game that you're getting home pretty late. It's easter weekend so anyway starting april seventeenth. This is this is from the charlotte thunder directly to me. Starting april seventeenth at two pm at bojangles coliseum extreme world wrestling. They're gonna put on wrestling show from two to four then kickoffs at seven thirty to watch the wrestling. You have to have ticket to the game so get your ticket to the game. I think tickets. Start at fifteen dollars. Plenty of seats available I think i think they're running like fourteen hundred. That's how many tickets they can sell to the football games so far this charlotte thunder blown out two teams now. The team they played last week in. Was it even really a team. The south carolina cowboys aren't even listed on the American arena league. They're ninety listen as a team for this year. They were taking. That's it was. I don't even know like they're not even real team And even as i was watching the game the announcer like yeah weeding either roster to like five minutes for kickoff like that so the wrestling's at to you get a ticket to the game you can get in to see the wrestling and then you're going to watch the game two now the wrestling's over four and i don't think get so. Are you gonna sit in the bojangles coliseum for three and a half hours. I don't know so people have asked will. can you go. you take it in the gang. Go to the wrestling. Go get something to eat and then come back. I think they're going to allow that I think. I can't. I can't tell you i don't know if it's one of those things where you get your ticket scan to get into the wrestling and if you go get some knee trying to combat and they're like oh no no. You're tickets are scanned because it again. I talked about this a lot harm scenes. But i wanna say x. Wwe's been aggressive. They have done tapings at their building. they have been doing tapings. They essentially have three shows on extreme. tv online. They have the tapings from their building which is in front of You know in front of meaning fans and that's called extreme warfare that's airing on spectrum in the charlotte area in those episodes are uploaded also either shaming at work. Now this past weekend. They didn't do episode. They showed sa- matches from their march. Twenty first pay per view. That's nothing they're doing pay per views. Their next pay per view is going to be on fight. And if you have a If you have the streaming network you also get those pay per views as part of your four nights description. There's some day free trial. They also have taped monday nights. Tap vine in indian trail north carolina. That's called monday night wrestling. That's that's a show on their network and then the half casino night which is almost like When you do a When when when the nwa was in and they were gonna do under as in w. o. show and then You had you had wcw and you were going to interview. Oh thunder well. That's what casino night is. It is a show put on by money in prizes. Which is a man. Many max group named canape for all the wrestlers and it's a very unique thing w. their current. Let's talk about champions current heavyweight champion. James drake jd. Drake their internet champion. Brian they're hardcore. Champion is justin fireball. They just announced or the women's champion his jamie senegal and they just announced they're gonna they're getting new Tag team belts and they're gonna crown tag team champions verison Again there's a lot of independent wrestling. I i've been speaking to one of our patrons about this. It's like you're. It's like sometimes the indy wrestling is like a train wreck. And you're just watching it because what's going to happen next. That's kind of what we've seen here If you follow me social media if you follow this podcast you know we. We talked a lot about the center. Arena there in lincoln to north carolina. that we you know Someone coined the phrase cova dome and there's the code dome went from literally holding shows friday saturday sunday to now. It's closed and you had a lot of promotions spring up simply because they had that building now. That building is gone. Now there was some promotions are already running there. Were just using that building But it appears that only one of the promotions that was running there or that started their has survived in that's excalibur championship and opinion on. Who you talk to that group. They're going to tell you that it's ten years or fifteen. I don't know i don't know but yeah but the cova close. And that's that's a pretty big deal. 'cause here's here's the thing. There are lots of wrestlers getting opportunities at the tova dome that they're not gonna get anywhere else primarily because a lot of not. I don't know i can't give you. A percentage a lot of guys wrestling cova dome were under eighteen. Well if you're under eighteen can get a license in south carolina and really if you're under eighteen. You're not gonna get a lot of opportunities elsewhere. I know there's other promotions in parts of north carolina using people who are under eighteen. That's fine they serve their business. I sir right.

"Is coming back for her 17th season with the Phoenix Mercury. Remember what she became the all time leader and scoring a WN BA history. Tarazi fights through Screech got the ball in her hands. She's standing at the corner of Destiny and history to Rossi for the record. Let's hear it for the WNBA's new all time scoring leader, Diana to Rossi. So here's my question to you where it is to Rossi rank among the greatest athletes in Arizona history. Oh, I don't know. That's so hard to say. I mean, because depends. You know, if you think how much how much weight do you give the WN Ba? If you're the all time scorer, then you're better than Larry Fitzgerald because he's second in all the record books behind Jerry Rice. What would you say that she's a better athlete than would go down as the best athlete in Arizona vs Larry Fitzgerald. I would say no, but, um, I still can't get past She's standing at the corner of history and destiny or whatever That was. That was a little dramatic. Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Johnson. He wasn't here a long time. But he his star shine bright while he was here. Absolutely. Steve Nash 12 MVPs here. Charles Barkley was a big name and let's let's go back. If you want to talk about this comparison that's like saying that the Arizona Rattlers are the greatest team in Arizona history because all the world champions they had world championships in the Arena League. I love the wrappers. I used to go to those games. But do you put those world championships on the same level? With the world Syriza's already on and I don't want any emails. I am not dissing Diana Taurasi. I'm just saying it's very difficult to put her in the same category with some of those other names. Warner. You know, it's very difficult. Larry Fitzgerald is friend of the show. Shane Doan might work his way into that conversation, absolutely, for all these years level of player in his sport that those other names are, But when you comes to Arizona history, there's nobody like he spent his entire career with one organization or is he would say organization because they're Canadian. They spent. He spent his entire career with the team was in my opinion, the greatest captain and professional sports When he was the captain. He was the leader of that team by far on, did just a terrific man inside the community who stayed here in the community. So you looking. So who would you say? Let's go to a different extreme in this not going greatest athlete, but just names and legendary names here. Um, would you say that more people in Phoenix or in Arizona would would connect Diana Taurasi with Phoenix? Or Dan Marley. Um Probably. Marley. Yeah, because he got so much attention in the what was it eighties nineties. I think that any color that you see you. He's got the restaurant where he was kind of an ambassador here in town. But again, Part of that is your your argument of the MBA is much bigger than the WN ba correct. You don't know Dan Marley was not as good in his sport as Taurasi is in hers. Correct, but he is someone that's iconic and was a great athlete, and it's still iconic here in town. So I'm not saying any of that to denigrate the career of Diana Taurasi. It's it is obviously the best ever. But how does that compare? When you're talking about apples and oranges in the league's that they plan that's all? So, but a great question coming up in a moment. Um Who's getting the vaccine. And why aren't more people in nursing homes getting them because it's kind of a scary statistic. When you hear employees and nursing homes, not getting it that happens here in just a moment. You know about 10 years ago, I had a very big pain issue. My lower back. I got Cy Attica. My entire left foot was completely numb. When I was seeking out pain relief. I ended up finding after searching a lot of different places..

"They had was also but they man some of these guys remember the old bash ball arena was a tough place to play with. the turf. wasn't too good the end zone. Very very small That was definitely on the head coach. Their coach samples sounds great. So when you play there what was it. It wasn't at the whatever. Ppnl or whatever it is you know now. It is that the ppo center now nab but it was that it was on campus and it was like a small field too. I remember small Fifty ours at the end zone might have been four yards as so many people get hurt. Their the turf wasn't too good in the end zone. Stuff like that you know did you. Just don't wish that upon anyone. You know what i mean you wanna play and then when i hate when the ceilings are low like like this you know the nfl and l. and even an arena football the kicking game huge in your room. Metal bars up there just to get through is it's kind of. it's it's it's. it's such advocate. So yeah that was one of the worst ones Trying to think what other arenas just talking on that though for a second like the one thing. I really like about what the nfl is doing right. Now is the really elevating standards. And if you look around the league. I mean the quality of coaches and players is definitely rising. You're just the whole game. Day experience you know trying to elevate it throughout and you know it's kind of exciting to to kinda see that continue to build and hopefully you know as they continue to expand that'll keep going. Yeah i mean. I just think i just think arena league The best thing that can happen for an arena league just next stay consistent in be be. Evelyn follow the same rules and an nba nba elite for four or five six years and wants to lead grows. Then you start getting these really. You know these coaches that are like wow. You're not gonna get you're not gonna get an f. on old. Afl coach or like an experience nfl player. That wants to coach to to just join a league. That comes and goes you know. There's too much up in the air. So what. I've seen in my years playing like team leagues coming. That's not good for the league and it doesn't want that doesn't make any player. Feel comfortable or coach. Cosmo going so you know leagues like this like the. Nfl has been doing a pretty good job since two thousand seventeen i believe they gonna keep showing They're paying people on time. There's no issues with the man and stuff like that her show on up. We're not exactly a fed is everybody should be doing but you would think so but yeah i mean this is the. Nfl has the sky's the limit. Because i don't think they have fells comeback. I really don't So they can at the. Nfl could step in and try to take that role. Because it's really. It's really the only league that still runs with the rules. The nfl has a little bit different rules to emotion. Run game stuff like that and there's lower leagues about but i mean people love the arena. Football rule sale at its. Everyone loves that. And in the in the in the best coaches love it. So that's gotta stick with. Nick is as long as they could be consistent next year's like you're going to keep getting coaches that want to do this..

"I appreciate the compliment on Twitter from the explosion just said I don't have access to the text line right now. So you have the film? Yeah. Yeah, but anyway, so you could vote on that Have a little fun. Let's let's hear from Vic Fangio. So Interesting situation for Vic Fangio right? Because he goes from being the head coach, which he's been And now he's shifting a little bit more just a little bit more into the personnel side. But the fact is in Vicky been points this out. Don't know if it's in the sound bite her in the one He points it out that If you're a good organization you're using Your head coach in part Of building your roster, right? I mean, I make it only makes sense. Why wouldn't you want the input from your head Coach? On what he needs to win. Simple right, so, but it is funny how there are some people that do subscribe to the idea that the GM picks the team of the coach coaches, the team. Look the most successful teams in the league right now. It's not like that. The coaches have input. There is an organizational direction if you can believe that. Have more on that the first years. Vic Fangio, talking about his greater role in personnel as he's gonna be, in part hiring a new GM. Well, we've had a role in it here, you know the last two years. I think that will depend upon you know who we hire, how they envisioned running the evaluation process. But you know, in this day and age with the teams Changing so much, even year to year. Even the really good teams teams, not with records, you know it proves Tonto have the coaches involved. Also, there's a vision. In a consensus of how the player fits exactly, but it's funny when I was listening to that earlier today, and it's such a Simple concept. But the Broncos have changed coaches so many times that that Message means something different to every single coach. That would have said it What? Gary Kubiak will, starting with John Fox with Peyton Manning. You know John Fox in John Elway, then to Gary Kubiak. With John Elway, then to Vance Joseph, with John Elway. And now the Vic Fangio. You get the input from each of your coaches on what they need to win. And you're changing philosophies constantly. If you're really following that, So then it's any wonder why you have taken so long to finally build the talent. On the roster to actually have some optimism that it's going eventually pay off because what Vance Joseph needed to win is not necessarily what Victor and you'll be looking for the win, would it No, they're not. They're different In terms of what personnel personnel. You're talking about the types of players. The personalities you want in your locker room, right? So Vance Joseph didn't care of his DBS could hit. He just wanted to cover Vic Fangio's Pacific Fangio once his DBS to hit because you're keeping the play in front of You gotta be a sure tackler. Social responsibility there. Um, you know, Vance Joseph. That didn't really care if his linebackers could cover. They're coming downhill. That's why you had Todd Davis. You know, Vic Fangio uses linebackers to be go away, be able to go away from the ball because he doesn't want to send that much pressure. It's Yeah, it's it's basically entirely different philosophies s. Oh, yeah, You're right. It is theirs and what those coaches need your cooking different dishes. Yeah, You need different ingredients. So then. The bigger question. The bigger point He comes Is Vic Fangio, the right guy to give maybe even a little bit more of that, as they bring in the new GM because you don't want too many cooks in the kitchen, right? You want. You want to make sure that the right voices were saying the right things and making the right decision is the right time. Right? So I mean, you don't want to all of a sudden we're adding a new GM. And then we're giving Vic Fangio more the John Elway still hanging over all of that, and he's got the final standing like you want to be very careful about mixing that soup. So how does how do you envision that looking? I don't think that's the way you look at. I think you look at it is you've got a head coach has been in the league 40 years. Has worked with a lot of general managers and know what knows what bad general manager Shit looks like. It. Fangio's job is gonna be won or lost by how Vic Fangio coaches on the field. It's not going to be won or lost by who he decides that general manager is, if he's going to be the ultimate decision maker. He's gonna have input. Got away from whatever you think of him was an excellent player. It has a very high winning percentages of general manager. He's made some correct decisions. Despite this rebuild, not being able to find the quarterback was his flaw. That doesn't mean that he was terrible that everything because he wasn't So there's another guy with 10 years of general manager experience in the NFL. Not including the apparently arena league time that everyone forgot about for some reason Championship, right Winning, right? Yeah. Um And you know, however long even how long was your player against 17 years. The player He's probably gonna have some advice on what bad general managers look like versus decent general managers. And so you want them to be involved in that process. That doesn't mean that their fingerprints are gonna be on the new general manager isn't going to take a job or he's a puppet. He's going to take a job where he's like, Look, this is my the culmination of my life's dream. I'm gonna take a job and I'm gonna be the man you're this is a resident building moment for you. It's a resume building moment for for hopefully this team and beyond, In fact, Micro cause of that..

Dose of Leadership
Learning How to Lead with Ryan Hawk
"Ryan hawk on dose of leadership man. I'm excited that you're here. Welcome the show my friend. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me rich You know we've been connected the lincoln and obviously had known about your show for a long time so similar past but always wanted to have you on this show talked. Nfl leadership junkie so man. I'm glad you're here. Like i said thanks for having me it I was read about. Your story is pretty wild especially with everything. Going on as a pilot and september eleventh man. I was I was like wow. This is going to be interesting. Yeah no it's it's it's been a journey but it so i'm curious i i would bet that are past. They're similar in the sense. That if i understand correctly football was kind your dream as you were growing up and then going through college and then you played somewhat professionally as well right and then. How did that in. I don't quite know the story how that ended. Why did the football come to an end. Eventually they tell you you're not gonna Like most guys they re. The sport retires you tire from. And so i played after college. I played for a few years in the arena. Football league briefly went up to canada. And cfl you know handful of workouts in the nfl and then they they say Yeah you're you're you're okay. But not good enough to To make it to the upper echelon of the sport and the nfl where you can actually earn a living and the really gripe played. It's essentially like playing minor league baseball right. You do you do it for the opportunity to keep playing into potentially catch. Someone's eye so that you could maybe have the story like kurt warner right. Kerr played in the arena. League gets gets a workout. He impresses he gets a job. The starter gets hurt and all the rest is history is now in the hall of fame. So i think that's why you do it you you and that's why i did it for a few years and I love those great experience. I mean you. Don't you can only do that when you're still in the prime of your athletic life and and so i'm glad i did it even though it delayed a little bit of my professional career but I i definitely don't regret. Yeah with so when you found it came to an end was it. Was it something you kind of always knew is going to happen you prepared for you said you know what i'm going to play ride this out as long as i can and then i'm going to start some sort of professional career and business or something that always in the back of your mind or was it like with me. I always thought. I was going to be a pilot and west when nine eleven happened and i got thrust in the corporate arena was a little bit of panic. Initially but How was it for you. Well i you know. I think kids. Are i talk with high school and college kids now. They're just so much smarter and better intentions than i did. When i was in college I didn't even really think about not playing football right And and so That could you know. I had friends who were really good about Building relationships creating connections setting themselves up for for life after college. I just wasn't one of those people. I i was immature like a lot of twenty two year olds and so i didn't have any thought of not playing I just happened to get really lucky. I am a family friend. Decided to take a chance on me and hire me into a sales job and And then just said hey just kind of use the same type of work ethic you learn as a player but now do this year for this job and if you do I have a hunch that things will go well. his name's rex. Goswell still a great friend to this day and just i'm just lucky. I had a person who is willing to take a shot. And then i as i try to do. I like to prove people right When they believe in fortunately it kind of my career went from there man. What a blessing to have that person kind of in your corner to kind of steer you. They saw something in you right. Which i think is an obligation of all this leaders right. Great leaders kinda see something that we don't even seen ourselves ripe and they help extract that out of you. That's great and then as i suppose you started working and that's when it was a lexus nexus nexus right and so you're in this sales position in this professional role like with me that's when it became. I started getting these moments of clarity of like. Oh where i came from. In my case it was the marine corps and flying planes in my mindset was limited. When i first started in thinking all i know how to do sleigh airplanes and but then as i got into the corporate arena i started saying oh i did learn a lot more than just flying airplanes. I'm assuming the probably same happen you with your football experience in in the great coaches and mentors you surrounded yourself around most of your life. I learned i learned how to develop a work ethic. I learned resilience. I learned preparation. I learned being coach -able. I learned how to collaborate with others. i got to college. I was on a much more diverse team people from wide variety of backgrounds. And i played a in the arena league down in birmingham so completely different from where. I'm from here in ohio and so i would say i think i learned about people. I learned a lot about myself. Learn about how to work. I learned how to do extra. I learned all that from my coaches from playing sports. And so i. I just tried to take that into the professional world and i liked the profession of selling because the people who were landing at the top of the stack rankings. The people who were making the most money the people who are getting promoted. They were the ones who were working the hardest. I don't have any experience. But i do think i could work And so i i. I was willing and still. I'm willing to to to work really hard at it. And then Eventually led to me. You know having some success in doing well exceeding the goals accompany set for me and then that led to promotions and more opportunities. And so i think that's that i direct all of that back to a combination of two things. One my family. My parents my brothers as well as My coaches who really taught me how to out of work once. I want for my eighth grade to ninth grade year.
