"Our researchers and I am excited for our business is to be able to re open if we have more people who are vaccinated. More and more people are putting up their holiday lights. One family in North Carolina has been decorating their home for nearly 40 years, but this year's light display is special. It honors law enforcement and health care workers. He spends a lot of money on lights were on Hawthorne Road in Ardmore. We've lived here 37 years and I've pretty much done Christmas lights every year. I always tell everybody when they're driving by looking for house, Look for the blue lights, those lights in the trees. There's icicle lights on the house laser lights in the backyard round balls that are hanging in the trees. They're actually bouncy balls from Walmart Rapid flights. The blue lights have always been my favorite. I added the snowflake on the windows last year, and I got up there with a bunch of weights to hold these gear down on the roof. I added the dripping lights last year over here, and I just I enjoyed doing it. When my two Children moved out, I decided that I wasn't gonna do the lights anymore. And my Children told me that dad you have to, so I've kept it going all these years. It's fun. I look forward to it. E do a good job with it. And do it was better. What? Who better to honor this year after 2020 You know, I love this song to say he rose work here. E think it's fantastic and Let's keep it going through the holiday season. Kudos to the family looks great. Yeah, And if you have.

name is Max he is a therapy dog and he's the one that helping reduce any kind of the jitters that people might have in a chair welcome to the show doctor boys thanks so much for having us Arden so tell us a little bit about macros work week well Max is just an amazing dog he's silver giant poodles standard poodle but he's three and a half inches taller than the average Joe poodle he went to school two and a half years and he works with multiple kinds of patients here in the dental office he works in respite care for dementia patients please help people in rehab he goes to visit friends in the hospital well we're going to find out more about him too right now she has a new patient in the chair we're talking to chase the Mingus welcome to the behave showcase did you ever think you'd be on a radio show why you went to a dentist I did not what made you say I need to make an appointment Dr well I've been here in Dallas now for three years almost three years now I just had an appointment a little over a year ago for my wisdom teeth and haven't found a dentist quite yet and works out that they're in the same building now what about the scene Max Max is awesome he's very cool I have a German shepherd at home so it's really cool to have a dog in here as well what your doctor but our name is Bentley family badly these names are very regal aren't too so you're going you're here for a check up yes ma'am okay so tell me a little bit about are you somebody that just dreams every day of going to a dentist I do not but I have I've always been told I have nice teeth so I try to keep try to keep it real good care of them and everything do you think having a dog that's well trained like Max's kind of taken the jitters out I definitely do yeah he's very friendly and he just wants to be petted laser said on your lap and the command you give to Max I say give comfort and I used two fingers drawing drawing them towards me and he puts his head on the patients by so we're gonna let you do your job right now with chase and we're going to talk more with doctor Boyd and the wonderful tales of Max we're here at the dental office of doctor Carol and void and one of the folks here is Tricia della Torre's she's a registered dental assistant how long have you been in the dental field I'm going on twenty eight years twenty eight years what got you in well as a fabulous oral surgeon by the name of James wealth than he is now retired and teaching in at university of Houston came to my classroom one day and grabbed a bunch of students and said that if the vocational class and that out you know whoever doesn't pass out give the insurance hearing twenty years later so you're new to the doctor Carolyn boys office what impact if any I mean I'm issue so stellar credentials but what impact if any did play a role without having Max here well Max is wonderful at comforting and I really enjoy the fact that he can help absorb any of that anxiety and stress that going along with the dental appointment and so it's not only help the patient but they help me it helps everybody that around him how would you describe obviously we're going to run photos of them but he's the most unusual Google I've ever seen well Mack is his Facebook pages Max the giant could also he is a gorgeous totally gray and I always tell people his legs look like the hombre style because the kind of blends into the right color and he's just got this teddy bear look and his personality is jazz I mean I've never met a dog like Max he's just very haven't heard and he's like a person you know his eyelashes are beautiful so I'm a little jealous of eyelashes but beautiful light he got a great smile and he loves to greet you when he gets here in the morning so what you've been in the dental field for almost three decades and what are some things that you know when the persons in the chair there feeling a little nervous body language is very important for us to notice right away of course you know the blood pressure when we first get him in the room we take their blood pressure and high you know it just it's just one of those things that you just read over the we are do they want thank you in the hands they get sweaty palm you could start to see their perspiring on their faith upper lip gets a little wet and then you know they're just visiting in the chair and you know they get quieter and but when Max is in there like they're not even had a dental office they're just relax and it's nothing like I've ever seen in any office I've ever worked at it it's the power of the pot it absolutely is his power he's given off a great live in this office and they just absolutely they that's why we don't have to do any marketing or anything is because everybody just love locked and spread the word and they show and what about Dr void she's got some credentials to she may not work and have that cute little face but come on doctor boy is one of the most comprehensive and just I don't pressed with her dentistry heard industry is right up there with some of the best tennis I've ever worked for and I work for some really good doctors but she is very particular and she does not leave any stone unturned and she is very informative she goes over everybody's health history not everybody does that important that she get through to the patient that she's there for her them there she's not they're just not you know coming once or twice a year this is that the family care and we've got every time she sends you out for a referral or anything she stays in touch with them she does good things fall through the loop now do you have any pets I do I have to come rainy in there what we call will meet me roommate and they are Pomeranians brought Riley and Sophia they just turned twelve congratulations yes and they're a handful because of the brushing but very good dogs very social butterfly they're not yeah offers or anything like that I believe I think that it I think APRS are usually if the houses you happy then the dog's gonna be out now do they are sniff you up and down when you come home because the man yes they smell Max every day and I think they want to meet back but he wants to meet men there they just know that they whatever that smell is they like it they're just mailing me for more longer than they've ever smiled yeah they.

"I'm your host Ardmore I'm getting schooled in a good way from doctor Emily Stein the bacteria was for and I think you guys are too I think we have good intentions of trying to make sure our pets are healthy from head to toe in my other life Dr Emily when I'm not behind a microphone or writing dozens of books I teach at first date that approved and I'm a master in it I actually teach the instructor program and one of the things we do is we encourage everybody to learn how to do determine what's normal and their dog or cat and that starts including the doing of inspection of the mouth and doing that beautiful breath test now so far my pet safety dog Kona who's out for years old is not causing anybody to pass out or I don't have to take the stairs instead of the elevator you know and things like that but it is a little chilling to me because she does use dog chews and you know things like that but I always thought well just as long as it says B. O. H. C. on it it should be a good to go but you kind of entered the saying how long its teeth been around it is it kind of a new product yeah we're brand new we launched in officially in February we started the pre order process and then in March we actually had synced manufacture products to manufacture everything in United States and super clean human grade ingredients and yes so so you you mentioned the U. H. C. there's a lot that I've learned over the past thirteen years in both on the human dentistry side and on the veterinarian side and so I think what we're going to be doing is educating everybody including that's about really what is dental disease how to define dental infection and gum disease how to treat it and how to think about nutrition appropriately and preventative approaches to help manage and promote the health of our free. loved ones so we're kind of going to have to push a reboot but now I think I think that's a great term a reboot yeah yeah yeah just to also think about the underlying root cause of all these problems seven said putting bandaids on the problem or set up pulling out to you because dogs lose lifespan once you pull out teeth right keep them in it's a goal is to keep the teeth in the mouth keep the gums healthy and dot feed the dogs a nutritious meal at with a diverse diet because that also promotes a diverse healthy microbiome right I agree now in some households like mine I got married a year and a half ago of course to an island right there you go graduation day. and we now have the furry Brady bunch so we combined and we have three dogs and three cats so we are meticulous that we have these water bowls of the house and we clean up and provide them with good water every day but the cats are also coming out of these bowls and I did I'm gonna give this teeth but try that's hard to say let's alliteration track so what happens the pet safety cat Casey my cool orange tabby comes over to the waterborne look some of that water that has some of the teeth in it show love it too I mean yeah yes the dudes are okay of sorry thirty was like that's here lying George Clooney's really a lady killer. staying yeah yeah so it's okay I know you're still working out of the line are optimizing the feline but this definitely is safe for cats I'm not gonna scientifically guarantee it's perfected for cats but it definitely works yeah because cats have kind of a different physiology thank you and I'm now you probably know this I'm gonna just test the great Dr Stein the back to you with do you know that cats do not have a sweet tooth receptor who well they don't have a lot of stuff yeah you have other stuff yeah yeah I wish we didn't have I wish I didn't have a sweet tooth receptor but still bacteria still gonna be much in inside the mouth yeah and a lot of what's in cat food these days is filler right so carbohydrate yeah even though cat should not have a carbohydrate rich diet they're getting one and so it's we need to be careful yeah right so tell us a little bit about some of the other folks on team teeth yeah so my co founder is Lindsay Campbell and she is a rockstar she's been able to basically take all of my scientific jargon and my speak and translate that so that people can understand. on a pretty darn good job today on the show tryin trying she's taught me a lot but she's also a marketing with so she's figured out how to talk to people how do you get the message out you know so we're still early on but were working at we figured out we have to go directly to pet owners themselves because the system is so I'm gonna be honest it's a little screwed up and convoluted so we're going direct to consumer on this to get fast change because we're trying to save dog's lives well I like that and folks you can go over to is it just T. eat after or the Facebook page chief yeah yeah you can just Facebook T. T. E. F. or were also on the one I don't use very often because I'm not that mobile savvy what is it the Instagram that well yeah I got a millennial I'm older than a leading else very active on Instagram but we do have an Instagram. well and the reason I say that is because just as a tease to all our listeners if they go to the T. Facebook page or go see this adorable popular name cash is this your new puppy yeah here's a rescue from up here he was actually in a kill shelter with six of his other littermates and his mom in Houston and and a rescue group in Minneapolis went down and rescued him during the polar vortex school they were driving up season blizzards and they had to stop like in Ames Iowa at pets at a pet store just to kind of you know yeah survived the roads and then make it up so he I was being fostered by a friend of mine and I just fell over the little guy and how does linsey like cash lands was cast lenses dark Stella in cash have a very interesting relationship this fella is kind of annoyed by cash cash really wants to be her friends. so yeah. yeah no well I did join night you had me at a contest guys has posted beautiful pictures of this queue pop and we're supposed to be guessing what the this canine cocktail is really made up of so I I put my best I guess and I gotta tell you I don't know whether you're doing the DNA are you doing it through a gas Y. or yeah. yeah okay all right so I put my bed and I'm not gonna say anymore as I know and everybody's going to win a million dollars right now I'm gonna I'm gonna fork over a year's worth the teeth. right all right well it was close you know yeah. all the bacteria whisper you know yes he's kinda like Oprah well maybe some day right maybe I'm I had out all the that cool facts. where we say I do I have to ask you did you ever watch the Big Bang theory course okay okay mazing. I mean when the last show aired like you I'm I went to Purdue but my degrees and communication not a Brainiac science I wanted to slow down the last episode and really absorb it I mean it it's kind of bitter sweet a in thank yeah it's sad but it's I mean I wish them all well that was such a great show and it I'm grateful for it because it made geeks like myself kinda kind of cool a little bit you know and I work at yeah and the re checks the cast on the yeah everyone that was bona fide brilliant in their own way yeah yeah I mean that's what super cool about science I mean now science is kind of been Pooh poohed but like it's so cool there so many different nuances you know I have friends of mine that are professors that solely focuses on one single aspect of one single bacteria for their entire career your you got to give that props. wow yeah well I'm kind of glad you're the bacteria whisper and when I was doing my homework on your bike and was asked to consider you to be on the show I'm like oh yeah she's great. arms and doggie breath but it all kidding aside this is kind of the at the forefront of health of a dog and hopefully you'll get this going for the cats too and I'm telling you from somebody that really I'm called the pet health and safety code so my goal is to help pets and their people and having somebody like you as an ally that's I think rocks thank you now it's all about caring for those who aren't able to care for themselves so guys after the show got its C. P. S. dot com you'll find out more about Dr Emily Stein A. K. A. the bacteria whisper and see if it works for your pets what the heck it's worth a go I guess is there any party message you'd like to go doctor sign it's all about I would just say let's all try to create some change for the better you know talk to vets encourage your friends and fellow dog owners than cat owners to really force the system to work on preventative mechanisms of health I like that and on behalf of Joe Kona cleo.

"ardmore" Discussed on Pet Life Radio

"I'm your host Ardmore. Our special guest today is Dr Shawn Benz, he's on staff at humanitarian, that's a company in Indy. Indianapolis that makes scientifically based probiotic products for cats dogs and people now I met Dr Shawn well over the air earlier this year because he invited me to be a guest on his humanitarian podcast to discuss pet first aid. So it's my turn to return the favor and have you as a guest behind the mic? Dr Shawn I really. I really enjoyed being on your show and when did the humanitarian health podcast launch. Well, it's about a year and a half at this point. Now prior to that I had been on a live call in radio for twenty one straight years nationally. So we've done it for a period of time. But it's only about about a year and a half at this point and trying to put the program together to build a tied together people animal health and how they interrelate because they really do. Oh my gosh. I think you hit it on the head. And you know, people these days what they think is good for them. They hope will be good for their cats and dogs products. That's not always the case. Oh, it's not always. But when it comes to probiotic, depending on the strain it is that way. And it does make a big difference. I'll tell you one thing that it's a little bit Louis, but it is I think somewhat important to say is that when you look at the human side, which translates really well to the dog side dog and cat side. What I mean by that is within about six months of living with your cat and dog your your good and bad bacteria of your gut is almost eighty to ninety percent the same as your animal is within six months. You don't think about it because you're not eating their food. And you're not they're not they might be eating your food possibly, but pointed this communal living actually changes the immune system of the humans as well. As the dogs and cats, which is very interesting. But this is the one thing that kind of blows your way. So if you look at all the cells in your body, you have ten times the amount of bacteria than you do cells living in the body, and you have ten times the amount of viruses. Living in your body, then bacteria. So if you really think about it, you got more bacteria and viruses living in your body. Then you do your own cells. So they play a massive role in how well or how good your health is in the same thing dog and cats. So here comes the question. What the heck are probiotics. I mean, we see that all the time on the shelves, but give us the skinny. Yeah. It's really coming on the human side. It's it's become pretty popular only because twelve years ago became very popular. But I had interviewed the guy who had written the original book twenty years ago. Dr huff Nagel out of university of Michigan saying that he thought this was going to be the new big thing. Well, now animals dogs and cats we're on the early end of that early beginning of this. But it's starting to become a big issue. But the bottom line is this when you look at your small intestine on average or dog and cat small intestine and the large test and most of the inner lining of it is covered by good bacteria, and we're talking billions and billions and billions of good bacteria, and the key is to make sure it stays good bacteria. Unfortunately, good bacteria is environmental factors. Poor quality food groups stress issues. Medications and many other types of factors, and of course, antibiotics play massive role to and if you don't have that good flora that good flora protects you against disease and dysfunction in member eighty percent of your immune system is in your GI tract. So think about eighty percent of your auto immune related problems. So if you think of your cat and dog, and if they have auto immune problems, one of the first things you want to make sure that you're addressing and I'm sure your vet is is to make sure that they're by Omar good bacteria is being given to them because they're going to need it to build a fight up. Whatever immune issue, they're dealing with. You reached a good point? I know there are sadly some dogs out there that have lupus and other auto immune situation. So how do probiotics play a role for these dogs that have those kinds of conditions? And because we have to say this where you can never say a probiotic cures anything. Right. We'd know it supports and encourages immune system to get better. And assistant in the healing. And unfortunately, lupus onset starts to happen. It's changed some of the cells within the immune system that themselves will be cured by probiotic. But I will tell you this. If you don't have other things that are causing more inflammation, a lot of those types of animals have less and less symptoms. If their gut bio more flora is in a much healthier basis by that's really good. I mean, I feel bad for the dogs that have that control. It's terrible. It is. Now, you have a dog. Do we gotta do a four one one on Mr.? A white Maltese. And you know for myself, I this is a very little dog. And I grew up in with full breaded collies used to live out on the farm and the ad also at one point a German shepherd. So, you know, the bigger guard dogs, protect the farm type thing and all of a sudden, I'm not I don't have a farm anymore. All of a sudden, we bring this little white weaker home, and it took me a little bit. Because it was like, yeah. It's just little okay. It's just little is great for the ladies of the house. They loved it. It took me about a year or two. And then all of a sudden, I just found out the personality of this dog and the intelligence of this dog, it has been absolutely fabulous. And I've been very thankful to have lily as part of our family, and I've grown to really appreciate the smaller dog. It's just I had never had one before. So it took me a bit. Well, she said you had read powwow you're hetero by. Wow. I mean, so what's lillies personality? Like, you said she's got some smarts than. I mean, great intelligence, which is amazing. But what's funny is this? If you ever watch the watch ice age and watch scrap that is our dog. You can't say ball. You can't see a ball. You can't anything with the ball. Because if there's a ball or starts with a B the dog's going crazy, and it and it will run itself until it is exhausted. And it's been that way since it was the pop it could barely even get its legs over the grass in a thorough ball out. It's going to get it. It's gonna drag it back one way or another. But I if I had it to do over again, and I was earlier in this game. I probably would have looked at competition. But this. It acts more like a cat and a dog. It's amazing gift and we had one before lily that was what we called loaf loaf. Didn't do anything loafed in Ron didn't fixture neighbor that late labeled her because she did look like a low. I mean, she does. And then we got lily, and it was completely different ballgame and it's been a blast. But I I would have probably brought this dog into being in some competitive method just simply because of its Jila Deion intelligence and train ability beautiful dog before you know, when you had loaf before that you never thought you were going to have this. Now, you never know. That's the fun thing. I was hoping that lily is anywhere near the mic because I want to say how. She is not or the wise. Libra outta here. Because you'd be going crazy ball ball. Where's there's gotta be a ball in the it's hilarious. But if you've ever seen scrat- our dog to a T, it's hilarious. Oh my gosh. Yeah. And speaking of treats there, you know, it's very very confusing to know what the right probiotic will not only for you. But for cats, and I know on the humanitarian site, you've got the sixteen PDF pull out that basically is giving like six reasons what's the real truth about probiotics. I don't want. You really just I know you're not going to sound like a commercial, but not all probiotics are created equally. And we created the six Trues for people to learn about probiotics not necessarily just about ours. Of course. Ours does need these standards. But here's kind of the six just a top criteria, which is number one. Are they good for your body? And do you need good bacteria? Of course, the answer's yes. The second thing is which strange keep you healthy. Well, there's member in you mentioned early as we have to have research to document what we're doing. We've found about eight probiotics that we know has. Clinical research that we know makes a difference in the dogs and cats, and that's what we are in our product because a lot of them most of them are only single strain and the first of all single strain is not enough to get the job done. We know that the animal has up to three or four or five hundred different probiotics. But the only ones that right now are making that are available for us to distribute are about eight so people trying to get to that age that has science behind is very important, and how your probiotic is prepared is it prepared to dairy is a nod is tested before is it mixed in sugary mix because he's funny about it is many times they will mix it with food. Well, the point of it is of moisture and any kind of sugar hits. It's like eight to see this is like kids. I got kids probiotics and little liquid drinks that are sweetener, and it's all debt because as soon as he hits water and sugar it eats at the die. So making sure that it's prepared right? Is a really big issue and more. Probiotics at our freeze. Dried type don't have to be refrigerated. And if yours has to be refrigerated you can't travel with it. You have a hard time getting the animal to take it. It's a big issue. Number five is do you need a gazillion of them to get. Zillion gazillion. You need will the research doesn't show that research says as long as you have one hundred hundred billion up to one billion you've got about all you can get beyond the one billion. We've found no research that supports the idea. But remember we're in America, if something if it's good, then if we triple it's gotta be better, but in animals as well as humans, it really does not make a difference. And then lastly, and here's the key one. And we have yet to find us nother probiotic in the dog cat arena that actually has proof that their product gets through the stomach acid into the small intestine in life form because the question is how would you check it? We actually went to the Netherlands and actually had a product tested at a mechanical GI tract system to prove it everyone else puts a little acid in a Petri dish and calls. It said it lived through it. So it must be good. Well, the point of it is most of us don't want to put money and time into our animals. Unless we know it's going to make a difference. So they're six truths are kind of things that if you take your probiotic pull it out. And compare those six truths, you kinda know, whether it's, you know, check them off. And if the last one they don't have any signs to prove it. They're over a gazillion of you know, they don't understand the science. So we put those together for you to build analyze your own probiotic as much as ours. All right. Hey, folks, we're talking to Dr Shawn Benza, and he is the good doctor when it comes to knowing about probiotics for dogs cats and us he's out of Indianapolis. I'm also I was born in Indiana. Letter from Fort Wayne area. So we're not far. We were in the northwest corner of the state. Yeah. Yup. You were born in Fort Wayne in Fort, Wayne, or we'd grabbed through crown point heading up to Chicago where I received my doctorate up in Chicago. I'm very familiar in crown point used to have a great gymnastics team. Yes. They did. Thank you. I remember that was a sports writer when I was growing up there in well crown point is also the place where John Dillinger escape from our escape proof jail. Piece of soap and black with shoe polish and somehow been able to get a tool to carbon into a shape of a gun and fool sheriff Lillian Holly back in the thirties. I did not even know that story. I know that's stranger than fiction, anyway, we're gonna find some more truths about probiotics. And why I haven't good gut health for your dog and cat is so important. Dr Shawn is in the house, so everybody sit and stay. We'll be right back..
