"Towns. And getting to our favorite rates from the past weekend speaking facetiously, of course, this was once again, the finest debut of American turf racing as we talked about with the sword dancer a couple of weeks ago American turf racing at its finest or clothes grizzled veteran. You know just an example. Eric and I were talking about this before that Europeans are going to have to come over to save us from having this in the Breeders Cup but no disrespect to the horses but this is just kind of been. Running the same in the same. Rut and these horses beating up on each other and no one really being able to be consistent. Arcola hadn't really had the best of luck. This year didn't really look like. He would get a win in a race of a caliber like this. You know the Louisville at Churchill downs was definitely something and I was really discouraged by if he couldn't beat a field like that. Then you know at that point, I didn't think he would win a stakes race remainder of the year. Obviously things are changed but does Zulu Alpha who you know there were some high hopes for him coming into this year and even into this race, you know he did get beat. In the stake at a Gulfstream, the Panamerican but came back ran a good race and the elk but got beat on the spot here at Kentucky downs and you know this is just been the story of American turf racing the entire year. No one has been able to be consistent. I'm not confident in any horse. Turfs or excuse me going distance on the turf distance of a mile and a half. So Europeans are probably any Europeans who are GONNA come over a probably really happy to see the inconsistency of this because they're going to be a really I don't WanNa say tough to beat. But for lack of a better term, really tough to beat on Breeders Cup weekend. Certainly.

"Caravaggio himself as there were three other guys. One was a captain in the Papal Army. Again showing he does have friends. Friends in high places and one of his friends was also badly injured in arrested. After the fact. And it's during this guy's trial where it comes out that the fight was was probably started a gambling debt so something that they could mull over for a little while and get your friends together but Curva Gio is injured in this but he escapes. He's not injured bad enough that he's arrested he gets out of Rome. He's terribly concerned about what will happen to him and rightly so because he's condemned to death in absentia by Pope Paul the fifth so the first place he goes is to the state of the Marquee of Caravaggio is relative so I A friend of his dad's friend essentially From there he goes to Naples in early sixteen seven and he starts painting again and just remember throughout his entire flight. He's still painting which I think is so interesting I mean. Obviously it's partly to make a living but that you would still have it in you and you're running for your life right. And he has to keep moving he moves on from Naples to Malta where he not only keeps painting but he's received into the order of Malta. which is kind of confusing? Because it's something that requires people permission. Yeah and the pope has just condemned him to death. I think that's interesting in. Of course all the While L.. His friends back in Rome. Were working to get a papal dispensation That's the only way he could be pardoned. But I kind of want this fouls spe- handled in reverse order. I think and and get my life spared were received into the order of Malta. But either way he's expelled from the order of Malta. Not Long After and he's jailed. He escapes from jail and goes to Syracuse in Sicily in October. Sixteen O Eight and from there he goes on to Messina and then to a Palermo all the while still working in. It's kind of interesting art. Historians have commented on this work. 'cause obviously you're GONNA look it at anything thing done under such verse circumstances but apparently he really simplifies things and scales down. But it's still just as skilled old and well executed as ever. The only way for him to really get arrest is to get the Pope's pardon at this point but Caravaggio has friends in high places like we mentioned so they've been working on. This seems like a pardon might actually be on the horizon. Finally Caravaggio ends up moving to Naples again But when he's there he's attacked at the door of an in horribly disfigured on his face people even get reports that he's dead by July sixteen ten though he's finally well enough to sail again so he sales for Rome but he's arrested along the way and the boat with all his stuff leaves him behind while he's in jail so he's trying to chase down this boat. He gets as far as Porto Arcola where he dies at thirty eight so he never reaches the boat never gets his pardon while he's alive if he is actually pardoned three days later three days later. So yeah. That's that's sad to say the least and it's interesting though. The circumstances around his death are appropriately. Controversial too often believed to have died alone on the beach. which is terribly depressing and probably seems plausible right but his first biographer Giovanni made things even worse? He painted a picture Sing quote finally. Having arrived in a place on the beach. He was put in bed with a high fever and having no human help within a few days he died as miserably he had lived lived. I think that makes it worth it makes. It seem like not only. Does he die alone on the beach. Somebody puts him in bed and then leaves him and then abandons funny dies alone definitely taking it up a notch but his death was really not quite that dramatic records from the Archives Exhibit. Show that Caravaggio was found delirious Laureus on the beach but then he was taken to the hospital and he died there. Two days later presumably not entirely abandoned by everyone at the hospital It's still unclear. uh-huh what killed him right. Maybe it was. Malaria could have been that maybe the knights of Malta or maybe even the pope I mean during his successful although very stressful career on the run he was kind of afraid that people hitman. We're after him. Yeah so it was a concern of Caravaggio is at least but we also have have to address those bones that were supposedly Caravaggio 's and identified as his last summer First of all though why would this even and be an issue. Oh you know. Presumably artist is famous as Caravaggio would have a monument and A marker setup immediately after his death but even though Oh it's pretty hard to believe after Caravaggio death he faded into obscurity. Almost immediately I mean he had an influence on later artists but people pretty pretty much forgot who he was until he had this big resurgence of the beginning of the twentieth century. So that's why we knew he definitely died in PORTA coli. But we didn't know exactly where he was in twenty ten silvio Vin chatty. WHO's the president of a private organization that seems to go around in? Id the remains of illustrious deceased. Italian searches Dante announced that his team had identified bones of Caravaggio from the PORTA Kobe. Crypt yeah you may be asking. How did they do this? So here's a little bit about their method. They examined skeletons at the crypt eliminating ones. That didn't fit. Caravaggio 's specs basically bay carbon dated things down to one skeleton and then they tested that sample against the DNA from families who renamed Maria or Marie CEO from Carvalho. So they did this. Basically because Carvalho didn't have any kids of his own and the committee couldn't find his actual descendants siblings descendants. I should say so. They kind of had to take their best guess. Yeah that's one thing that makes people a little uncomfortable triple with this. Finding but the group also concluded that the presumed Caravaggio skeleton had suffered from lead poisoning. which would would would also add up for an artist at the time had suffered from syphilis and had died from sunstroke but art historians have been really really skeptical of this claim to say the least the New York Times article that we mentioned earlier had quotes from quite a few art historians story INS with varying tone of dismissal but I included one shrimp to Moscow Monari of the University of Naples? WHO said quote in the four hundredth anniversary of Karabagh? She owes death. This committee has concocted a compelling discovery thinking it will attract tourists. It's all very depressing. Yeah Sir not very confidence inspiring no not at all so I guess. I'm hoping that we'll find out more in the four hundred hundred first anniversary of Caravaggio staff. Because I don't like my my ex missions to be depressing in up in the air. Thank you so much for joining us today. For this Saturday. "And what was so sacred about Salwen that all were forced to join in and for that we may have an answer. According to author John McCauley Many Celtic festivals centered around the goddess. Maeve whose name. Literally literally means drunkenness. While getting drunk on Halloween nowadays is just a traditional bit of fun in Ancient Ireland it was seen as a sacred duty over eating and drinking allowed the celts to enter into a state of in-between. meaning that on this dark night on which the spirit world crossed over with the human world. Someone who was drunk and full might be able to commune with the spirits and even the gods ads and Sales Marcali also writes that. Maid's name is derived from the same root as the word middle which further echoes the degree. RETU- which drunkenness was associated with crossing over into another world. But if this sounds like fun and games no different than a particularly debaucherous Halloween Wean Party. It was actually much much darker for one may was just one aspect of the original goddess Donoughue who represented the Earth itself. And they'll donoughue was the mother of all. She was also sometimes malevolent and violent and the celts were attempting to cozy up to the bosom of a cosmic being that was known for being unpredictable and in order to achieve this they they conducted a ritual more terrifying than any haunted theme park maze. It was known as Tarshish Salwen was not just an observance at the end of the year but a time when the men of the Kingdom discussed politics and and even selected a new king. It's unknown if they did this. Every year but Celtic mythology makes it clear that any perceived flaw flaw in a ruler meant he was unworthy for example in the myth of Luke the God of skilfulness the King Newel was replaced replaced after he lost his hand in battle that minor injury alone was enough to make him unworthy in the celts. is ancient manuscripts. Show that part of the tar vector ritual to select a new king was to extinguish all of the flames in Ireland. On the night of the thirty first luke seen seen as the ultimate king was a God of light and enlightenment by extinguishing all the flames. The celts showed that they were ready to be enlightened once more ready to be shown the way to their new ruler. This was a world without electricity. So it would have left the entire country three pitch-black imagine the sheer terror of being told that tonight there are spirits. All around you and even worse you have to avoid them. While making your way in complete darkness it was like a haunted house that lasted all night and span the whole globe. He Genre Arcola added Salwen could bring something new only if it was preceded by dissolution or chaos. Did the old ruler simply step down or did something more sinister befall them. No one knows for sure. But what is known. Is that in order to choose. There's this new ruler. A white bull was brought forward and slaughtered. This represented the bull that the mythological hero Nira era brought from the other world. One Warrior from the Kingdom was chosen to eat as much as they could of the bull's meat and drink a broth made made from its innards but this warrior wasn't being tested to see if he was ready to be king instead he was being prepared to choose the next king once the warrior reached the Maeve state the in between state where they could channel spirits and gods they were wrapped in the bull skin. This sounds far less pleasant than wrapping yourself in a sheet and trick or treating ghost as the chosen one slept. The other members of the group chanted over them essentially casting a spell that would help them in their quest quest to the other side. Some sources claim that the individual in the bowl skin was actually a druid and thus one of the most powerful members number of Celtic Society if druids were truly not only priests and healers but also those with the connection to the divine then they. They were the real leaders of Celtic society. How sovereign was a king whose very rule hinged on the visions of druid however the position selecting the king was not without its dangers? One source claims that if the person in the bulls skin woke up and was thought to be lying about Luke's folks message then they were put to death but if the ritual was successful then the person awoke and shared visions that either. They're explicitly or implicitly told the Celts who their new king should be for example. They might see a well known warrior sitting on a throne thrown or more cryptically. They might see an eagle snatching up a snake in its talons and then infer that this represented a warrior with an eagle as his schedule or who was known for killing snakes or for killing someone who was represented by a snake. It was clearly really not as cut and dry as voting for. Who had the best costume in the costume contest? Regardless whenever the king was decided upon it was as if Luke Luke had given them light again. Flames were rekindled and festivities resumed once again. This is a salwen tradition that does echo some claims of a biased historian Cameron says claim of Celtic bestiality with the white horse. This is not so far off from the ritual of the White Ball but is this the case of the historian twisting ritual to be even more shocking or were the celts really so dark as to force their new kings to mate with a horse. John Mark Collie provides some clarity he. He writes that anthropologically. Speaking Cameron says his white horse ritual makes no sense. Someone was about death and rebirth. Having a King impregnate a mayor then kill her and bathe in her blood has no meaning. He has just destroyed. The thing he sought to create Marquette writes that in cultures with actual documented bestiality. It's more common for a woman to mate with a male animal as she is thus becoming thank symbolically impregnated by nature and will give birth to a stronger future. The bull ritual is more in line with Celtic beliefs as it shows the obsession with reaching the other world and represents rebirth as the person emerges from the bull skin and so drew it halloween rituals. The walls were likely not as dark as rumors suggest though they were still plenty dark compared to today's customs and some of the Tamer traditions. Additions have endured like wearing costumes. And carving jack-o-lanterns. According to Celtic belief the world was absolutely teeming with spirits. On the night of Salwen there were certain famous spirits that were the horror icons of Ancient Celtic Times instead of serial killers and little girls crawling out of TV's they had beasts and spirits rooted in mythology in many of these creatures stories. We find the dark roots of our modern traditions. The following story from the Middle Ages serves as an excellent example stingy. Jack was a Celtic man. who had a drink with the devil one night when the devil turned into a gold coin so they could pay for their drinks Jack instead pocketed the devil coined surrounding it with silver? The Devil was allergic to silver and thus could not turn back. Jack offered to free him but on the condition that the devil would not harm him or try to collect his soul to this. The devil agreed. Eventually Jack died but as he found himself at the pearly gates to heaven he learned that God would not allow him inside. Jack had consorted with the devil and with stingy. Besides such person was not worthy of eternal salvation but in hell the devil wanted to stay true to his word. He wouldn't let Jack Enter either. It pleased him that Jack now had nowhere to go jack was stuck in the in between world forever doomed to walk and walk with nowhere to go. The devil gave him hot coal to light his way. Jack then carved out a turnip and placed the coal inside using the turnip as a lantern. Perhaps to scare off any spirits in the other world some versions of the tale even depict Jack Replacing his head with the Lantern Celts thus carved out their own turnip heads heads toward away the spirits on Salwen or even toward away stingy. Jack himself some have noted that to a modern audience. These is carved turnips. Look not unlike human skin gray and stretched out into the shape of a face which is perhaps why today. Hey we carve pumpkins instead which have a much more festive orange color. Next time you see Jack Lantern. Try Not to think of the disembodied body head of Stingy Jack another terrible creature that roamed the earth on Salwen was the Polka an other worldly shape.

"I was reading all these weird books about these crazy kind of concepts mostly written by professors or racers. And people who clearly had never actually run a run a real business end. Just wanted to head to sell more. I didn't wanna know about all these crazy concepts engagement branding this. And that all of the other, you know, that that seems to be what really dominates the marketing category, which is kind of just the mole fancy that get in the mall. We had the concepts of the bit of the generally cells. I know I just wanted to put together a book that I wish I had that really just takes you from zero seems that United nothing to Bain to ending the book having a really good framework for marketing and really understanding what the next steps iron had a plan out a marketing strategy fee business side. That's that's really from a lot of stuff. You talk about in. There is is quite factual in the sense that United felt in relation to. Are especially like pork chop that you had in the book where it was talking about, you know, study audience and noted shooting product fifty percent, wouldn't I trae thirty our interested but not right now seven arrive in the buying trae ready to ball only got Baynes. That's really cool. But way, that it's come from that your studies orders that stuff that use you've souls from elsewhere, not as I mentioned that pretty much on page one of the book, or almost none of the ideas in the book. I might inventions. Like, I mean, I came up with the framework, which is the one page mocking flat framework. But that's about it. I'm in literally everything else, I'm standing on the shoulders of giants people who are the bane mental is in my life people who influenced me through experience. But you know, I did not invent directors once mocking. I'm caught up front about that the vast majority of the concepts in the book not things that I invented Diaz things that worked for me. And they ask things that worked for for my clients. I think with things in the book that I I work. I didn't put any cereal things that I think might work or something like that site. So I basically took all of the things that worked for me. I've a couple of decades of business experience put those in the book, but quite honestly, as I mentioned the first page of the book, I did not invent the vast majority of those things. So you've mentioned threat with once mocking couple times. Now, I'm full. That might not be familiar with that term. Can you give us a quick rundown on what that is? And then how is to what spies people might be used to? Yes. So as a great question site direct response marketing is a branch of marketing side, I guess backing up a little bit. They're pretty much two branches of marketing. So there's one that's kinda brand based that's kind of bad getting none and getting engagement and all of that. And that's the talking mocking. You'll say like on Bill bold, you'll say companies like Naccache arcola, a that they bicycler just putting the brand they're law guy at all of that sort of stuff, and the kind of hope that if you say the billboards enough if you say adds enough in that that you'll remember them when it comes time to to make a purchase and must tightly find that works really really well for big companies who've got very big budgets, very big timeframes. And like I said it works for the companies, but the small companies you don't have enough firepower to go with that kind of strategy. Typically, working with much smaller budgets, yet you much smaller timeframes, you've got maybe ten grand to spend on marketing, and you need to get ten grand or twenty grand back in terms of profits from that side with that is that kind of strategies direct response mocking in direct response mocking is all about when you have an ad or you have a promotional something like that you need to be on a track rut, we spent a thousand dollars on.

In compliment to the guys that we already have and he fits nicely into our cap space. So what if it were three team deal? We take on heartless miratec goes to Portland draft pick to New Orleans. We'd also like to get a two thousand twenty or two thousand twenty second round pick out of this deal blazers. Well, we really like heartless, you know, he's he's value world world likely playoff team. But still provide provide something evalu- because then you're probably getting more help with that second round pick than we are. But it's something that that could be used. I mean, we're not as convinced as you are that Harkness's a positive asset. He's missed a lot of time with knee lately. And we want to check that out that met those medicals before we're even willing to agree with this. Also, you've got Jake Leeman at that position. Who is a superstar right now. So what do you need Marie? He's a superstar for ten minutes every month, five months, or whatever it's more than that now. But frankly, we're going to have to clear a roster spot to do this. So if you were interested in either scowl, or Frank Mason, we would be willing to send them back. New orleans. Would you have any interest in in either one of those guys because Portland Portland were so we could we could make a you like that happen. But if that makes it easier for New Orleans for New Orleans, we can do it that way as well. Pelicans. We have some modest interest. But we also have a potential roster crunch depending on what other moves we complete here. Okay. So if you're not if you're not particularly interested, then this Bixente a little bit more interesting. So we can do that. How 'bout because you're Belkins your Lou? Using a spot you losing a spot in the deal. So could we do a first round pick? Let's lottery protect it were as Portland we're gonna make the playoffs. We can lottery protected, and then they can go to you know, let's say top ten protected and then than than seconds after that, then we'll do that..

"In fifteen minutes. The incredible story of Indian Super League, Gaurav Mookie. Just wait. Just wait. I'm telling you it's from the category of you can't make this stuff up. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Thanks so much for tuning into our hump show. We're inside the Quicken Loans studios national mortgage lender. Quicken Loans apply simply understand fully mortgage confidently. It's maybe too early to get super excited about week sixteen in the NFL. I'm trying to temper my excitement a bit because I've got a lot to do as I'm sure many of you do before the final weekend leading into Christmas. I don't know how many of you are traveling. But I saw this one particular post on Twitter. I do follow some journalists who work in the Houston market. Of course. And I saw this post that indicated thirty point six million people would be traveling through Houston airports over the Christmas holiday. Days which will include me in my family. So if the travel it's having to Pat Christmas presents, you know, because when you fly they have to impact the specific way, they can't be wrapped. It's also about making sure the my my pets, and my home are taking care of it. So the stuff that many of you have to do in preparation for Christmas. But I hope you're enjoying the process of the one hundred twenty cookies that I baked on Saturday. I bet you I don't even have thirty left there. It a lot of cookies I've mailed some to my granny. Helen, I mail them to a friend in Florida. I mailed a few to a young girl that I got connected with in Baltimore who I I thought it would be nice to put together a Christmas box for her. Her name is also Amy so I sent her and her grandmother some cookies, I pass them out to my neighbors. I brought them here to work and pass them out. But here's my question. I need I need you guys to give me a little bit of an education. If I pass out cookies, and I leave them in the morning for co. Workers with a nice note. And essentially, thank you for all the work. You do and I don't hear from them at all. Now taxed not an Email nothing. Now, we don't cross paths because we work different times is that they didn't like the cookies or should. I just assumed they forgot they forgot to respond. They forgot to open the cookies they didn't read the card. They just threw them away thinking that they were laced with anthrax. What do you guys think? Brian Chris are on the other side of the double pane glass. I need to know what you would take from that. Now, you guys are males. And so I I get that women and men do not think about these things women generally jumped to the conclusion of Ono's something's wrong or oh, no something went wrong. What would you guys think if you know big two hundred and twenty cookies and pass them out and did not hear from either of the co-? There are three co workers that I left cookies for on Tuesday morning. And I didn't hear from any of them. What what what should I take from that? I think anthrax seems the most reasonable. Great. Okay. Well, then I should expect the police to show up here anytime, it's bad form. And here's why oh this is Chris this is old Chris giving us a lot. I love the old soul. Now, I like it. He's an old soul. He thinks very mature Lee and soberly sometimes because of the time of year, it's double whammy because it's Christmastime Italian break, my heart. No. School arcola employee's here sports radio because if somebody doesn't nice deed for you one you respond, anyway, even if it's not something you particularly fond of which I don't know how anyone can not love cookies. Cookies are amazing and be or two. Holiday season. Which is it is it too. Or is it be for this? Both on this be or to whichever one you want to call it. It's the holiday season you've got to be more conscious of people everyone's out to do. Good and do good deeds. And if you're not giving love to the people that are giving you love back. That's not a need love. Just hey, we got the cookies, yo. For the cookies actually bra. Thanks for the cookie. I don't even a thank you. Because that's not why do it. But just an acknowledgement that you got the cookies, right? Exactly. An acknowledgement just to say, hey, I appreciate you appreciating. I mean, I felt so hard to do is it now here's the deal. I decided that I will give said co workers who will remain unnamed twenty four hours. Okay. So maybe even going into thirty because here's the reason I left him cookies for boomer boomer, by the way, dared me to make cookies two years ago for some reason he didn't think I could make cookies he actually scoffed at me when I told him I was going to make Christmas cookies and bring some in because he did something nice for me. He was generous and help me out with something. And so I made him cookies as a thank you. He scoffed. He actually said to me, whatever you can't make cookies do you think that was like a reverse psychology probably accepted yet to get me to make the cookie? So I did accept the challenge..

"Winter storm watches, those are issued for communities where snow and or ice accumulation as possible in this case between later this afternoon and Thursday evening, freezing, rain, sleet, and or some snow we'll make travel hazardous for community under a winter weather advisory. A significant winter storm is possible with this system as a kind of picks up steam between now and the end of the week. We've got the big southward plunge as we've had for some time now in the Jetstream with some cold air in place, depending on the exact track of this area of low pressure. This has the potential to produce accumulating snow and ice in parts of the Appalachians mid Atlantic and northeast snow were a mix of rain snow and ice for Porsche. Sion's of the mid south the mid Mississippi valley and on up into the Ohio valley. Strong winds may also accompany this storm as it moves through the northeast Thursday and Friday, again, those details are going to have to be iron del but following closely. This is what we're looking at this point here. We are Wednesday is underway. Right. A few flurries possible around the arcola miss region early today, not really expecting much of any accumulation. Light snow or a mix of rain. Install will develop from northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas into southeastern Missouri and western Tennessee by late this morning. Into the early afternoon hours snow or a wintry mix will then spread north eastward into the Ohio valley during the evening hours, a mix of freezing rain, and sleet will be possible. From parts of the Ohio valley into the central Appalachians of the Shannon doa valley by late this evening then into early Thursday. It's just going to be rain. Elsewhere in the southeast as we look ahead into Thursday and Thursday night. As things really begin to ramp up snow or a mixture of rain, snow freezing, rain and sleet from the mid Mississippi valley to the Ohio valley eastern, West Virginia. Western and northern Virginia. Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, southern New York, this could be one of those icing scenarios where we see a damaging. I seen is possible in western Virginia, western North Carolina or maybe southeastern West Virginia. Could potentially include a brief bout of snow near or just northwest of the I ninety five corridor including Boston, New York, Philly and Baltimore. Rain further south in the southeast and the southern mid Atlantic a quick change over to snow showers as possible in much of Kentucky, Tennessee in the southern Appalachians. And then of course, the strong winds are gonna develop along the eastern seaboard as this area of low pressure intensifies. That storable continue to be impacting parts of the east on into Friday and maybe even Saturday morning. In another bout of lake affects no could develop in the Great Lakes Nobel's by say Friday night or Saturday. This will looks to be a little bit more of a hazard for travel conditions versus system number one that we've been dealing with Monday and Tuesday of this week. So some of the very latest there. Meanwhile around the country toll free, our number's eight eight eight eight six zero eighty seven eighty five with the wildfires in California. You may have seen some of the headlines reports that we could see like smoke drifted across the entire lower forty eight. I mean smoke possibly reaching all the way over to the eastern seaboard. Well, technically in recent days, it's a Santa Ana wind events. So most of the smoke is being taken westerly out over the Pacific at this point in time. According to the CBS affiliate out of Boston. They said some of you may have read that the smoke was visible. Over New England this past day. So given the current configuration of the upper level winds over the US that theoretically this is not impossible. However, the the smoke has a long way to travel, and of course, it's also passing through a storm system in the midwest. So it'd be hard to differentiate some high clouds from the Tuesday storm and some potential smokers. Maybe some Hayes mixed in from the California fires. But either way it gives you an idea of just how massive the fires are and just a reminder to keep the victims. And yes, the firefighters in your hearts and minds as they continue to battle right now. Last night. I saw there were somewhere close to nine thousand firefighters from essentially all over the country. Battling those blazes in California nine thousand firefighters boots on the ground there. Just incredible morning horse feathers. Honor..
