"Today's question coming in from A couple of good choices here about you know what Kevin's out in Pittsburgh. Let's talk about the steel was riding that two game skid, but still the number two team in the A F. C is they take on the Bangles here? Where do we rank him? In the A F C good teeth stealers for May, probably third or fourth year we fit between three and four. Person. Yeah, I'm going to say three only because the bills have have jumped. I'll say three. I agree with you. She's obviously bills and then steals from. Yeah, the Browns dangerous to the brown. Will they play at the end of the season? So that's gonna make that's gonna be probably one of the most telling games of this year. I think for the Browns gonna be fun. Think, Override the auto part to your car care needs, guarantee low prices, excellent customer service and ride the auto parts. Parts butter prices every day. And speaking to the Steelers. I'm riding them tonight as sharp Tierney. Nice week so 453 and one took that tough push with the Packers laying the eight they actually pushed on the number, Obviously, hence the push, but they're a big and then they got a little sloppy and Answers back doored. It's so 53 and one but I've got the Steelers tonight. Lane 13 against the Cincinnati Bangles. I as much as I've been down on the Steelers last couple of weeks here, predicting actually a couple of losses. I think they crush him tonight. So I am gonna lay the 13 also want to remind you Sunday, the NFL on CBS has a slate of game shape of the playoff picture. The coats clash with the Steelers, as well as key matchup featuring Washington and the Browns. Get set kick off coming up at noon Eastern on Pacific JB and the guys on the NFL Today Sunday the N F L is on CBS. All right. So before we get to the blast here, um let me just connected few of the Heisman dots in case everybody is stores, not everybody. Some people are wondering, um the amount of votes cause I looked it up to. But Santa actually got more detailed, good stuff here, Mike. So there's 927 Heisman voters, all right? There's 79 total winners member Archie Griffin. We've had on many times in studio a couple times you want twice with the Buckeyes, and so 8.5% of the total vote is former winners but again Um you know, some of the gentlemen of passed on, sadly, so was probably closer to 5 to 6% of the vote is directly correlated to the winners. All right. Just see if you want to do the math. There get a sense because we were kicking that around. But Roughly 5 to 6% of the vote is actually from the former winner. So they go teak. We'll see ready for the blast. Who we got here? Yep. Let's do it. All right. Let's hit it. So.

"Ohio State University, along with Archie Griffin to time Heisman Trophy winner I bleed scarlet and gray. I've missed Ohio State football. I like to say that Saturdays or spent without the Buckeyes curled up on the kitchen floor in my pajamas. In the fetal position, but the Buckeyes are back. They host The Nebraska Cornhuskers at noon tomorrow at Ohio Stadium, and here to talk to us about it. The voice of the Buckeyes Paul Keels, Paul, How are you doing? Undo it. Good chick. How you doing? Fantastic. And now that Ohio State football is back, it was on it was off its back again in Paul. I can honestly say I can pick myself up off the kitchen floor from the fetal position in my pajamas. Now that Ohio State football was back. Gosh, we're, uh we're a week away. Well, I think I'm glad to get you off the ledge and that you get a good position to enjoy. Yes, we all are thrilled that it happened when it looked like it wasn't gonna happen, And now we just hope that everything comes off if there are any interruptions of their men Ryan Day has admitted that it's just been brutal, watching Ah, whole bunch of the other country play football and not Ohio State, and he called this a once in a lifetime football team. Man. Everybody's just eager for this thing to start. Correct, Paul correct and a lot of it because of the anticipation of what this chief, you know, last year team the success everybody knows about winning the fiction championship getting to the playoffs. The season ended with a bad taste losing to cleanse and the way the game was played the way it ended with some of the controversial calls as well as Ohio State's inability to take advantage of Channel three red zone possessions first half and into the big field goals rather than touchdown. A lot of optimism about what this team Khun duo on the field offensively defensively special teams, and that was probably the most frustrating part when they thought it wasn't going to be a season that that's what you get into the excitement that there was Paul keels with US the voice of Ohio State University. Athletics and Paul Got some players and I wouldn't have blamed them at all for not coming back with the NFL draft, you know, really so close in the spring, but they have come back. Some very, very key players, man bringing a lot of optimism to Buckeye Nation, and there were two of them that really people would've understood. They left after season. Why Davis and our all American offensive guard and Sean Wayto safety who's gonna play quarterback this year? Once the season was post home? They decided not to point on then, when the season was Granted back to everybody. They decided to come back. They will help US football team on the field. They will help this football chain from a standpoint of leadership, and it just adds to the optimism that they have a chance to very possibly do something special. And To have the Buckeyes all of a sudden thrust into what number six in the nation without playing it playing a down yet That's huge. Well, but let's keep in mind, too. But after the second week, they went completely out of the hold. Yes, they weren't playing and nobody knew if they were going to play the chick That's kind of what is going to be so unusual security in equal number of games, still not knowing how that's going to play with. You know, you hope that there's no postponements Big 10. Now with the starting when they are, there's no open week, so they have happened to them. What happened to the bear Cats, sweetie, and there's really no place to move the games. So it's just such a sensual A perspective to think about all of the things that we're going to play and not only determining Conference championship, completing a schedule. But how will the playoff committee view all of us deciding the four teams to play? But, yeah, it is kind of unusual name rank where they are without having played, but I think that's That's also in while it's so subjective when it comes to the polls and things like that, especially before season starts. It just shows you the regard that people have what this guy's 80 potentially chicken And we're talking a quarterback here for a minute. Man, you've got a good one. He's a special player, and we saw that in just one year last year, just field coming back for a second year, second year rap rushed day around the offensive coaching staff. I'm really having the ability to approve his kills a guy who can hurt teams running and throwing the football and this was a guy that could have decided to leave but least just to sit out and maybe even look to transfer. When the shooting was postponed, but he like so many of the other players. Really took a public stance and trying to campaign forces to help push the issue for the big 10 to reconsider attempting to play and he certainly has shown not only what he could It shone with his ability as a young man to help carry the messages. They've just shown What an impressive individual and a man snapping the ball to Justin Fields close personal friend of the chick stirs, but anyway, his family Josh Meyers, Miamisburg in Miamisburg High School, man really proud of this young man. And what a force he could be a center. Well, when you think about not only what he did last year, but what he could do this year. We're having Wyatt Davis next time a guard and you know, this is a team that lost but some key offensive lineman but have guys coming back not only just Josh Meyers, but why Davis Harry Miller, a true sophomore, who'll be the other guard spot their month who spent his early high school years of South high school before going back. And Nicholas Petit for air and they've got some young guys will help develop you there. So certainly what Josh Meyers has done it representing, you know the part of the state that you call home and then also Cincinnati. Guy's from my hometown. You know, when you think about Jake Hausmann for Moller, you think about it tight end to person on the planet from Shall you know those air guys Tehran Cage in the potential line from Winwood's terrorist Johnson. A Cincinnati true freshman who may get some serious. We're exploiting the offensive line. You know, you're in my part of the state or country very well represented at Paul Kills with us, the voice of the Buckeyes and Paul You know, how has the pandemic impacted you in your ability to see the team, see the players be around them, and that's got to be difficult. We're not able to see in it were not able to be around that little weird. We're not able to do any impersonators there all by telephone or by zoom and it's going to make what we do A little more challenging, But you know everybody in this industry. "Here is a Heisman Trophy winner like a Carson Palmer or an Archie Griffin or a job or a but ultimately, after a period of time you become Bengal ized. You begin to anticipate something, boy. I didn't see that coming. What in that look and Joe Burrows eyes after the game. The look and the interviews after the game, the OSI when it happened, That's the Bangles way. I don't know how it's gonna happen. But I was sucked in about 7 15 7 20 thinking, okay? Hear that Bengal roar by here we go Brand new and the same stuff happened. That has happened for the past 52 years and nothing changes. Am I am I am I too premature in my condemnation. I think your premature in your condo condemnation of what may happen moving forward. I think you are being completely fair. If you say look yesterday, felt like every other heartbreaking lost the franchise has has made us endure. I I tend to it was it was a gut punch, and it was heartbreaking and that this team is going to even have a remote chance of contending for a playoff spot. That's the game you have to win. Your defense, for the most part does its job. You have a chance in the fourth quarter? I know. Home field advantage isn't quite isn't even close to what it usually is in the NFL. But you're playing at home against the team that offensively is very, very limited. And you've got a chance like you've gotta win that game, and you can't lose that game because of the mistakes. Joe Borough made a a rookie mistake an interception on a shovel pass. In all my years of watching football. I think I've seen interceptions on shovel passes, maybe three times. That's that to me that mistake that's going to be an outlier. That's not going to be the kind of thing that I think we associate with with job. Er. What if each angle on what if he is that look in his eye? One of his cars. This is what happens. Well, time will tell you about the over about a J. Green touchdown rise. How about that? But by Joe's own admission, the overthrow a J. Green on a on a ball that should have been a touchdown. He even said after the game. That's a throw that a high school quarterback makes. He's got to make that throw. And I'm willing to bet that over time he will. He will make that throw. Joe Burro was uneven yesterday. I can handle that Rookie quarterbacks are going to be uneven. What was frustrating? Was watching Bobby Heart try to block for the right side of this offensive line is a problem, And it was a problem against the team yesterday in the Chargers that have a very good pass rush. It's going to be an immense problem moving forward and that that concerns me. Um, the jury is out on Zack Taylor. But this is a year where we're judging Zach Taylor. Zach Taylor ran the ball on 2nd and 10. I believe four times yesterday. Think one of them was a second and nine. I'd like to see a little bit more aggressiveness. And perhaps as Joe Burrow becomes more comfortable, we start to see a little bit more aggressiveness. Um But, yeah, I mean, look until they win games consistently. Ah, the You know the the insinuation that it's the same old Bangles. It's going to be hard to combat and you are ultimately going to prove You are going to prove people wrong. The brand of this franchise. We heard it all winter long before the draft. Why would burrow want to go there? Right? Why would a guy want to go play for the Bangles? Right? You're going to be Bengal ized. It's up to him and them to prove people wrong and losing a game like yesterday's is certainly not going to help in that effort. And Joe Mixon is not a fumbler. But he fumbles the ball bounces a certain way. And who recovers it. Nick Vigil. Ah, former former Bengal correct You can't make it up. I mean, I'm looking at this ever everywhere I look, I see. Oh, this is the bank Ryan Clark just shook his head after the game and said, Well, that's the bank Lets move on. I'm looking at there's something even I was sucked in for, like 10 minutes. The shovel pass the recovery fumble. The overthrows the matter door right side of the Bengals line. They're like Spanish matadors. Here comes the Joey Bosa and all these other guys and then the cramp and the non kicking like that was the key moment. Bullet is 24 of 24. He's not Mr Field goal inside the fort. It is a chip shot soon as that was said. All right, the cramp in the left leg and he Bangles lives, and I've seen it for 52 years. Nothing changes now quickly about the Reds in the big 10. The Reds. I've analyzed that they have 13 games left. If they get the nine and four there'll be 500. Which means they've got a sweet Pittsburgh when 203 from Milwaukee, two out of three from the White Sox are at home were really good. Then two out of three in Minnesota and my being suckered again. I don't think so. I think you outlined what they have to do. And that starts with this four game series at home against the Pirates, which begins with two games today. I think it's it's it's at the bare minimum. They have to win three out of these next four, and frankly, if we're really going to talk about this team's chances, sweet. I think there's think there's two things that would help a sweep. The Pittsburgh Pirates be The Cardinals and Brewers are going to play each other five times this week. We need one team to win all those games. I mean, those are the two teams ahead of Cincinnati, and, frankly, I think there's too many teams to leapfrog to really talk about them getting the last wild card spot. You're trying to catch somebody in this division. I think the first thing that has to happen is we have to hope that the Reds take care of business this week against Pittsburgh, Cardinals and Brewers play a double header today and another one on Wednesday. Cardinals missed all those games because of covert 19, and they're going to play a game today. I think I think the Cardinals and Brewers are going to play nine times between now and next, son. Somebody needs to sweep all nine. That's it. I think I think you need one team to win and an abundance of those games. And obviously the Reds have toe to take care of business. I worry about them being able to do do it now without Sonny Gray. I give them some credit to a degree yesterday because You lose that game on Saturday night? This team hasn't won a Siri's since early August, You're down to a to a cardinal's team that is wiped the floor with you. In recent years. You've got the bad news about Sonny Gray. You're trailing Ah, 5 to 3 in the middle innings. And then you have this offensive onslaught. Andrew Miller had the wheels fall off, swore as it's a homer. Aquino hits a homer and they don't want to say they pick themselves up off the mat. But but there are at least that would have been a knockout blow. I think it would have been hard at this team a 2027 to really talk about their playoff chances with any amount of seriousness, and I still think it's really hard to do that, but If they can take care of business against a bad team that last weekend the weekend prior, they only won two out of four against then we could talk about their chances over the last nine games. What if the Bangles played the Reds?.

The Faucet turned off by game time but it was cold it was raw and it was was just what we've come to expect when Ohio State Place Michigan what we didn't expect was what Ohio state did when it ran out of the tunnel onto the field at Michigan stadium the Buckeyes ran directly toward the famous M. Club banner the one that the wolverines sprint under when they take the field in the Buckeyes tore the banner down on a defiant gesture on the opponent's home field as if this game needed a tone to be set became clear in the first quarter that this game would be different for both teams. Ohio state the twelve yards and a mass of humanity. Ohio state didn't make a first down on its first three possessions. Ohio state would respond by throwing over. That's how football strategy strategy works. That's not how Woody Hayes worked as we have seen by the stats would he didn't have much use for the pass is team had gotten a ten to nothing lead by running the ball and that by God was that after all this quarterback had a bad throwing hand so hayes kept running Archie Griffin between the tackles Michigan put eight men on the line of Scrimmage Michigan put nine men on the line of Scrimmage Ocean Mbeki knew how his mentor thought he knew what he wouldn't throw the ball and he was right. Ohio state play collar in the press box would call a pass woody. You're listening on the headphones would scream obscenities in archie would run the ball into the line again. Ohio state running back coach Ed Farkas said after the game and no matter how good you are. You can't beat a good team. Not varying your attack. We played it to Dan Conservative in his book. Buckeye a study study of Hayes during that nineteen seventy three season author Robert VIR quoted an Ohio State Offensive Lineman on his head coach woody choked on us. He got so tied. He wouldn't let us play our game. We blew him out that second quarter with Pete Johnson in there. So what is would he do. He takes pete out in the third quarter quarter. Why because pizza freshmen in a freshman might make a mistake freshman had been eligible to play college football for only three years as we have established woody. Hayes didn't like change yen quite bought into freshman year before the the inserted Freshman Archie Griffin into the opening game and sure enough. Griffin fumbled as I carry would. He didn't put him back into the game. Archie believed the first I carry of his Ohio state career might have been his last the next week. Hayes did give him another chance rippin rush for two hundred and thirty nine yards a school record. That was the second game of the season. This was Michigan with everything riding on it. Another player told there where we could have scored on them easy. If we'd thrown the ball or mixed it up a little woody not only has to beat a team yes to beat them down yesterday brutalize the the other team. That's what he thinks. "Okay. And he was like unknown. He had a great opening game was like the second highest went to like five to one overnight. So this society is Bill. For instance, fame, and thus how in the heck can we really know how well. I guess the question is what kind of edges are really to a proven commodity, and then that brings because someone can get just as famous almost instantly. And then there's the old ten games. The thirty points is cold thirty two is boring. Why is it that a Lamar Jackson, and I'm not saying any individual case? But you'll see times it feels like Brad. Maybe I'm wrong about this or player had a better year the next year. And can you give me an example, March Jackson's a good one had a lot better passing numbers has year after winning the Heisman? But yet, you know, kind of fell out of favor. The public sentiment was I already wanted to own news all news. What's the next flavor of the month? Just makes Archie Griffin all the more impressive as till he played for the Bengals in the pros. That no one can overcome that. All right. So that's rule. Number one. Don't be afraid of longshot real number two. It's a quarterback award this century sixteen of the nineteen winners have been colder. Bax make sure if you're in one of these long shots quarterback for the most part. So what was your long shot two years ago? I was running back. Love hundred one then win some business of sadist and masochist, and you know, which one you are. Roles on that one finally RJ number three. He's got a play on a highly rated team the average regular season wins for the the guy the Heisman the team that is trophy winner was on ten point nine regular season win. So basically these teams are going eleven to one or better very few in fact zero zero Heisman winners have gone eight and four in the regular season. One on the win the Heisman strong stuff as any thoughts. I love it. So almost selectively lemme ask you, Brad. I should look at team. So I think you're gonna win ten or more games. And then look at those teams for value the quarterback their quarterback and look at the unknown quarterbacks. Exact the long shots. It's that simple. It's like an algorithm would say, it's simple. I'm saying, it's that's the process. But then the trick is is this guy in this is Brad is watching freaking spring games stream and all that stuff. This guy's got something. Sure right now. I don't think I've ever asked you. I'm actually a believer the college football posting boards, if you know who to read with any board is super knowledgeable. I totally agree with that if you know couple of the longtime posters, and if you're in there, and now it's almost twenty years if you've been following it for that long. There's guys inside there that that really know their stuff and have a good pause for their individual team. And I mean, it's like the guy like in. Friday night lights the TV series. Right. You've got the guys that have seen every game. And if you're saying, well, hey, this part of the field is really muddy. 'cause of the rain. He's gonna know how that's going to affect the game in a way that the like maybe five people know, and they're gonna know this third stringer..

"Many point out what about big Willie. Mario initially pointed out Chad for frame of reference the Bengals fifty greatest players list that you voted on remember that it was Munos Anderson Riley, and boomer those were the top four. Chad was number five on that list. Let's see the reds. It is awfully difficult to leave Joe Morgan off. But I'm I'm gonna do it. And I'm not gonna penalize for. It's just Joe wasn't initially a red and was arrested for eight years. If you compare the tenure of rose and bench and Robinson and lurking those four, I appreciate caller, Mark referencing in picking vodka vodka. Feels like too much of an in the moment for me. If we do this list in in ten years or twenty years ago, probably as good shot of being in the conversation. If not on the list, but in the moment, not ready to do it. Let's go back to the phones. Jack crumley pointing out from the newsroom know, Jim Brown. How can you not have Jim Brown? Right now. It's Brady Lawrence Taylor. Jerry Rice at Reggie White. Now, Mario pointed out that Reggie Bush should be on the college football is because he's the greatest college football player he's ever seen. I would raise you a Reggie Bush with a Herschel Walker Herschel Walker in three seasons at Georgia rushed for sixteen hundred eighteen hundred and seventeen hundred yards. He's the only player ever to finish in the top three the Heisman voting. I mean, think of that he finished in the top three of the Heisman voting in all three years. He was in school. He was the SEC player of the year. All three years he was in school, and he has his number thirty four retired despite leaving early. Now, I'm also an Archie Griffin guy as a kid I stood in line at the mall. One time to get Archie Griffin's autograph only two time Heisman winner. Three time. All american. Think of this number. I'm about to tell you Archie Griffin rushed for one hundred yards in thirty one straight games. That's an NC double a record thirty one consecutive games. In his time there the buckeyes went forty five and one winning four big ten titles. I'm trying to think of anybody obvious on this the college football list Earl Campbell not on the list. Who else I missing from Reggie Bush offered up by Mario? I don't know if there's anybody. I'm trying to flash defense. Charles woodson. My missing anybody obvious on a couch to represent college football on this list. Reggie. Vince young. Yeah. But it's Vince young going to go over Tim tebow. No, oh, come on. Don't give me that look dim the Heisman Trophy winner national championship team started quarterback leader in the might not be a better leader in the history of college football, the Tim tebow. I'll give you Vince young was I you know, what I'll put Vince young in my others category. Let's go. Let's go back to the phones. I've got one too. I've got four lines open grab one five one three seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one and pounds seven hundred on AT and T, Jerry. What do you got for a Bengals list? Oh, you cannot think of the Bengals either coach wise or you could go NFL with why are you not being Paul Brown? Aw. That that greatest football mind ever. That's good. I mean, you're you're right. I mean, how do we leave? How do we leave the Bengals? Oh, I'm making you my second caller tonight tonight. I'll take you have a great night. Thank you. How do we do that feel like idiot Paul Brown out? Now put him on the Bengals list. He certainly he clearly goes on the NFL coaches list of we do it NFL coaches list. You could make the case for the innovations. He did you could make a case for him being on the NFL is in general. But how would you not put him on the Bengals laced and unless we are going to cling to this is a players list only. But then you're leaving sparky out. Paul brown. I feel bad. I should be docked penalty points. Mason the next stop Aaron you're on seven hundred w w. Yeah. Well, now Rushmore Robinson. I agree with bench. I would say Lee Rozov for all the.

Welcome back to the town hall review the land of the Buckeye football report the Browns always in the Cleveland Indians when they win the World Series. Just kidding. I'm Hugh Hewitt urban Meyer, just led the Ohio State buckeyes to a resounding victory in the Rose Bowl. And then he retired as you can imagine coach Mayer has shaped the careers of some pretty remarkable athletes that there is one who changed his life. Here's my colleague, Larry elder with coach Meyer. All right coach your last game at Ohio State. I know what the Rose Bowl, I know you want. But how does it feel? Take the Rosebowl was a bucket list. So I grew up in Ohio watching the seventies. You won't see like Ohio State versus USC earned every year. Archie Griffin was one is the only player distorting four straight games. And so I just a dream. And we came close many times to get in that game. But we never did. And so to be able to finish my career to high steak with a win were excellent Washington with a bunch of players. I love it was it was perfect night. Coach. I know you're here in town. And there's a rivalry. I'm born and raised in LA, the rivalry between USC and UCLA. I thought that was a serious rivalry until I went to Michigan between Ohio State and Michigan. I don't think there's any rivalry that intense in the whole country. You know, the one rivalry that. I I've never been a part of is the Auburn the iron bowl Auburn Alabama. I would love to see that someday. But I can only talk about the state team up north because the thing that's amazing. Larry, and you'll understand this because you want there is that it's hatred. Dislike gets competitive. The R word is so powerful the respect to that goes back to the ten year war with hard at it ended up. Becoming a friend boche mbacke. Learn obviously, Woody Hayes, right? It is our Howdy respect to rally every day. And that's what we've done and coach when you and I I talked we talk on the phone and you asked me to speak to your players. And I said coach coach I need to tell you something you said what I went to Michigan. And you didn't say anything, I was twenty seconds. I thought something can happen to you. And you said well when you come can you not say that can you say the school up north? I can do that. While there's a rule if you say that word you have to do push ups. So, you know, we usually give you know, do these free pass for he said twice pushups. What was coaching Tim tebow like? Dear friend. I've never met a person like him. I've never been a person who is so strong in his faith. Who is his entire being is making someone else day, brighter struggle, and he taught me he changed my life. And on top of that. He's the toughest guy..

"Ten years hundred and four than all three coaches in college football history reached one hundred wins faster than all but one coach but Wilkerson in the last fifty seven years and faster than all. But five coaches all time. Now, the assistant athletic director. At Ohio State University. Please welcome. To the program coach urban Meyer coach. Thank you. Larry. There could you? Thank you for taking the time. I really do. Appreciate it. All right. Coach your last game at Ohio State. I know what the Rose Bowl, I know you want. But how does it feel? The Rose Bowl was a bucket list. Something like grew up in Ohio watching seventies, Ohio State versus USC. Year Archie Griffin. Distorting four straight games. And so I just it was a dream. And we came close many times to get that gay. But we never did. And so to be able to. Finish my career to have steak with a win over. Excellent Washington with a bunch of players I loved to death. It was it was perfect night. Now coach, I know you're here in town. And there's a rivalry. I'm born and raised in L A big rivalry between USC and UCLA. I thought that was a serious rivalry until I went to Michigan. And I've learned about the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan. I don't think there's any rivalry that intense and the whole country. The one rivalry that. I I've never been a part of the Auburn the iron bowl Auburn Alabama. I've talked to many people during my time before today's about the rivalry. I would love to see that some day. But I can only talk about the state. Because the thing that's amazing. Larry and you'll understand this. Because what there is that it's hatred. It's disliked gets competitive. The our word is so powerful the respect that goes back to that ten year war with the guy that end up becoming a friend boche mbacke. Learn obviously, Woody Hayes, right? It is and how they respect to rally you work on every day. That's what we've done and coach when you and I I talked we talk on the phone and you asked me to speak to your players. And I said coach coach I need to tell you something you said what I went to Michigan. And you didn't say anything for twenty seconds. I got something going to happen to you. And you said well when you come can you not say that can you say the school up north? And I said, yeah, I can do that. While there's a rule if you say that word you have to do push ups. So we usually do these. Free pass. But it's you said twice pushups. Okay. I gotta ask you the standard questions. Coach your toughest lost your greatest victory. Oh, gosh. Compass loss at Michigan state wanted two thousand fifteen the greatest victory. Oh, has it been the shoot the double overtime or the? A couple of overtime against him up north or the Alabama shirt. Now when I went to the team up north coach, I was I was informed that a good season was still be a good season. If we lost every single game. But we still beat Ohio State. That's that's intense tests, and that's what they say around here but change day who's a league coach he's taken over. We kind of joke about it. Number one number two when every other game. It's changed a little bit. What was coaching Tim tebow like? Tables, a dear friend. I've never been a person like him. I've never been a person who was so strong in a state who is his entire being is making someone else's day. Brighter struggling at he taught me he changed my life. You go in on top of that. He's the toughest guy. And this is a very bold sick. But he's the toughest guy I've ever coached. He did not succeed in the NFL. Did that surprise you? It did it did. But now that I know more, you know, it's just the NFL game. And I thought you know, when you start talking about chip Kelly and go check their people who step outside the lines about how to create the elder not always cookie cutter coaches, and I thought when he had a chance to coach play for coach ballot. Check and then chip Kelly coach Kelly. I thought I here we go. It never materialized. But yet great playoff win over the Steelers. And he's doing great. My guess is football coach urban Meyer coach, we only have a minute left. I left the most painful question at for the last and that is was it feel like to have beaten Michigan every single time. The school up north every single time. Tony did both back where I grew up in that era. And then when I became head coach. Bowling green? I got a phone call from both ship back and he couldn't have been more gentlemen. He said, I know you're very close. Bruce, a guy that he coached west. You know, they have respect for each other. So the respect I have for that school respect. I have that rivalry sure it's on that. You have to pitch myself when I was coaching those games because I just robbery, but to go seven, and all that might have been the thing that for the rest of my life. That's 'cause I don't know. That's so hard to do that. Because there is such a good team players coaches. There goes seven against that group. Let's federal be done coach. You're just three years old. I got a feeling we've not heard the last of coach urban Meyer.

"Four you're next to find your next to test tore though, I wasn't actually I'm real estate Are you kidding. kidding? I thought tests yesterday morning, and he was giving me the entire play by foot well test. I'll say this good test. Does a great job test was, you know, uncharacteristically enthusiastic, and I'm kidding here. He was tests was it It was. was. Jason was booger there than booger. Mobile. Note in the front row could see what was going on driving back and forth. No, getting the home. She's got a screen up at everything festivus out here about this. Because this is amazing. Honor. I'm we're laughing about it. But but there's this is a this is as good as against Boston is what's amazing about it is that an office of line any law offensive lineman. I'll just made Aaron Taylor also went in from Nebraska, those tents. Yeah. He was he's pretty sporty. He was chopping people down like crazy. But you know, there's nothing you look at Calvin Johnson. It's pretty obvious. Why Calvin Johnson went in? There's a couple of numbers you can reference when Calvin Johnson even Dave Dickenson who was a record setting quarterback at Montana Kerry Collins, the list is long distinguished Charles Woodson Heisman Trophy winner. And then here's Aaron Taylor. And I we're sitting over there, we you know, we silted we impeded a couple of defensive lineman. You know, a tripped and fell maybe had a backside cut off block that came in handy. Otherwise, how do you acquaint whether or not this guy's career is worthy of of of a hall of fame recognition. But the best part to me was in the ultimate team game. And you're playing the ultimate team position in as an offensive lineman. It speaks to the teams you got to play on the players you've got to play with. And I think about the highest wards and Robert Edwards and the champ Bailey's and the rainbow gone. Freeze and Richard seymour's guys that these guys are on the pro football hall of fame ballots, and that's what I think ultimately is about listen, I think sometimes these things are I was with Randy moss couples going plane, and I asked him about the in the professional going into canton. And he said it was almost more important to his family by the time. He got in. But I I know support to you. But, but I bet I bet it was even sweeter for your family. It may have been my kids couldn't care less. They know what they no. They were like how long exactly is this banquet dad, and we'll experience birthday while it's going on. They they were is a great experience show. Live tweeted this NFL Schwartz though. But did they'll see? New york. Yeah. They do the national football foundation. Does a fantastic job without event. How long did you work on your speech, the speech that I was not requested nor required to give to quite a bit of time actually MAC, Brian actually was spoke on behalf of the entire class. Might imagine did a phenomenal gal of characterizing all of that. But I did put together. A few words and thankfully did not have to. Okay, express any of them. That's changed since two. What last time? I was there. I'm being facetious. Yeah. Mack Brown was he spoke on behalf of our entire class. Christian Wilkins won the the Campbell trophy, which recognizes the national scholar athlete. He did a great job. You can tell he's out with Daboh for a while extemporaneously speaking for coming up for quite quite some time than parental. You know, what that means? But it was it was a press isn't prevalent of those banquets were they win he covered a lot of basis for sure. But it was it was it was an impressive night is impressive. Group of men to be up there. Archie manning, of course, being very involved, you'll got there and there's Johnny Rodgers Archie Griffin. Jerry Jones was Jerry Jones spoke. It was there was a lot of fun to say sounds like a who's who if you will..

"He was asked if this truly is it for his football career. Let's say complicated. Good question. And I'll try to answer it the best. I can is that this is where I grew up. My it's not healthy. But I came to work every day with fear of letting people like Archie Griffin and migrate state of oil are straight state of Ohio and this incredible university down because this is home graduate of how state urban as you sit here. Do you believe you will not coach again, I believe coaching are you fairly certain certain. Okay. Fairly certain that he will not coach again, we'll get that moment. But Ryan day serve as the interim head coach of the buckeyes during urban Meyer suspension to start the season winning all three of his game. It was his second year on staff after spending two seasons in the NFL coaching under chip Kelly. Big reason why they still very good about him. He had previously served as a graduate assistant under Meyer at Florida in two thousand five we bring in Paul finebaum. Once again about this after you saw urban reaction in that press conference. What he said explaining all of this. Do you really think that he is done coaching without knowing his medical condition? I would say he is coming back. I mean, unless there's something very serious that would prevent him. But he was confusing. Best yesterday, initially. He said he wouldn't rule it out. And then I think he realized what he had said. And then he cleaned it up. And then again urban Meyer has always had a credibility problem with the true. So I simply do not by what he said yesterday. Let me turn that question to you, Laura. You work. For him again on his staff or those who are not with us yesterday ten years ago, you know, him. Well, do you think he's coaches last game? I think he's I think he will coach his last game in the Rose Bowl. I really do. I just his body language in that press conference to me it sort of looked like he was joyful to be done right now. And I think that will last the one thing I would say, and I'm not contradicting myself, but just knowing him, well, he may get that edge again. And that would I would think be years down the road. I think he's really going to focus on his health focus on his family and and step away for a little bit with all due respect that is contradicting. But I'm just telling these ring Jalen, I completely agree with Paul. I do believe he will go back again, barring the medical side of it if he cannot, and that's a whole separate issue. But if he can my experience in thirty years of covering this stuff and Paul you've been around it as long as I have these guys go back. They just go back. There is something inside of them that burns to do what I get state was a dream job for you to grew up there and all the rest of that. But there are other good jobs out there. And there is something that burns. He's only fifty four years. Sold. I believe he will go. I think the hardest thing for any x coach is to sit around and see another season begin. He did he's already done that. And he's he proved that he would not back up his word. He went to work at ESPN. He was miserable working there. And I'll just tell you quick story. I was on the sideline of the Alabama LSU game one versus two gay talking urban, and he looked out there and saw saving and miles. And it was killing him not to be in that position. And that's one reason why he came back. And I think the same thing is going to happen. I don't think there's anything that is going to satisfy him other than coaching. He'll have a short-list though of schools that he would go to. But maybe Notre Dame's in that category. Maybe USC, I don't think he would just go anywhere. We NFL. Even in the discussions doesn't seem inconceivable. I I would respectfully disagree. I think he is cut out for that. I think when somebody calls and said urban the Cleveland Browns Cincinnati Bengals are about. We would like to offer you seven million dollars a year is going to go. Okay. I'm good again. No, he will not go to the NFL. Absolutely. Not. I think he will coach again, obviously, we're sitting here..

"It has always been a goal to see a healthy strong program handed to an elite coach in person to make it even better. And I want to congratulate Ryan day and his family is this truly it for for your football career. Let's say complicated question. And I'll try to answer it the best. I can is that. Try to say that in the statement. And this is home. This is where I grew up. My it's not healthy. But I came to work every day with fear of letting people like Archie Griffin and migrate state of our state state of Ohio and this incredible university down because this is home graduate of how state and we have the best fans in the land. And I didn't want to let her down. So. I dealt with in two thousand fourteen had that surgery and then recurred last year. I started dealing with some issues last year. And I hired Ryan day because I thought he was very good coach and knew he was he's with me before when I found out that he's far. Far past those thoughts. He's elite urban as you sit here. Now, do you believe you will not coach again, I believe coach again, are you fairly certain like certain if we go back to April before all the details of this season unfolded, and I said to you. Hey man is going to be your last ride. How you think you would react? Great question Marty and. There was conversation before this year. You know, Ryan like I told you last January had a chance to go become a head football coach. A pretty impressive place I met with gene. You know? I knew that this isn't going to do for the next fifteen years. Ten years. I knew after the experiences I had on the sideline again in two thousand fourteen just dealing with the headaches that I wanted to do how state right and Jean Smith, right, man. So I would probably thought not this year. But it was within the next few. Urban won three national championships tied for fifth most by head coach and the AP poll era, also one of two F B S head coaches to win national titles with multiple schools. The other being Nick Sabin Myers. Career win percentage ranks third on the all-time list. Among those to have coached at least ten seasons. Welcome into college football live. I'm match the voice you heard on the asking end of the that last question. There a belongs to Marty Smith joins us. Lot of from Columbus, Ohio Marty. What did you make of the answers that urban Meyer gave today the news conference? Well, what a made of a Matt is that it's a man who's made a decision. He's comfortable with right now. And it's actually a longtime coming. You heard him say there in reference to my question that this is about a year, at least they've been discussing this. So it's also interesting after he got done with that that answer I decided that I wanted to know about legacies. Matt because you know this. We love to discuss legacies in our job, we love to ponder them. And consider someone's overarching impact. So I asked coach Meyer. Hey, man. What do you believe your legacy? Is you guys always tell us wait till I'm done. It's still being written while you're done. And he said to me something I found to be very striking. I hope it's the truth. And he said his definition of that is that it's a man who devoted thirty three years of his life to growing young people and molding young people he said, I've never considered athletes just number thirty six. He said he learned so much when his own daughter was being recruited that they were talking about jersey numbers and locker rooms, and it ain't about that. It's about growing young people in making certain that win they leave that they haven't opportunity in life. And he said he feels like that's what he's done. That is the legacy. Yeah, they've been successful on the football field, but in his estimates. And they've been very successful in growing people as well..

"Well, last year I committed even the worst said, I, I had them throw me the broadcast on the stage before I knew the MVP was. And so they said, hey, are you ready? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm ready. And then all of a sudden I get the show and I don't have talk back -cation with the producer and I'm thinking to myself. Oh my gosh. I have no idea who the VP is. I'm trying to look at the jumbotrons to see like, are they putting it up early? So I had to make the executive decision that Jim Delaney the Commissioner of the big ten was he's getting the Mike. 'cause I got a dive behind him and ask Archie Griffin the is it was given the troll anyway. So I give Jim. The Mike Divac I asked Archie who the MVP. He says, JK Dobbin I kinda grabbed him by the shoulders and I looked at him in panic mode and I said, Archie, or are you sure. And he lifted me shocked and he was like, I think so. And so I said, JK Dobbins with like fifty, six percents belief that that was the VP. But anyway, allowed to share that was we've shared that experience when the Steelers beat Arizona in the Super Bowl. And I thought Ben Rothlisberger was going to be the MVP and he should have been, but we get to right before the trophy presentation. And I, I have to, you know, pay on talk about the Super Bowl MVP. I don't know who it is. Nobody's told me who it is chaos getting up on the podium, absolute chaos, and I'm yelling in. It's so loud. I said, who is the MVP to whoever will listen to me? And I finally brothels burger comes up and I think Ben thinks he's the MVP and then I see Santoni homes. I think he thinks he's the MVP in. So I'm yelling who is the MVP pay. I finally get this voice homes and I go home my God, and then the Commissioner comes up. The ceremony starts with Joe Namath, bringing the trophy up ongoing. Because it was such an unbelievable finish. And then here I am going. I don't even know who the MVP is so right. I understand that pain that you were feeling. All right. Finish the sentence. If Texas beats Oklahoma, dot dot dot. They will be back. We've been talking about this forever right for almost a decade waiting Texas to be back. And that's always the the big deal. But the bottom line is after a decade of waiting and maybe even wandering through the desert of football there in Austin, Texas, there's sixty minutes away from being back and you could say, listen beating Oklahoma before in the last couple of years. Yes, but this is different. This time they're ranked this time. They're on a four game winning streak. This time they beaten TCU. They beaten USC. That's two ranked wins this season. This time they wouldn't be putting themselves squarely in the conversation for the big twelve title, and then even the playoff with the resume that they're starting to build. So if Texas wins their back, if Kentucky beats AM. Oh gosh. Panic because then you have to have the actual scenario in your head that if they were to upset Georgia, Alabama would have to play Kentucky and the SEC championship game, and nobody wants to see that nobody wants to see Alabama, hang half a hundred on back. If Jimmy tech beats Notre Dame. Or vice versa. Oh gosh. I'll be shocked if detect beats Notre Dame. This is the team that gave up sixty points. You know six hundred yards and Old Dominion, you know. So I'll be shocked. I think Notre Dame's a bona fide playoff team. Yeah, just feels like it's a tricky game. It's, you know, the quarterbacking situation. It seems like Notre Dame's found their quarterback. Virginia Tech lost their quarterback, but I don't know. Just Notre Dame always has one of these games. It feels like every year you know, almost every team does when you really Alabama has not been Yun to one of, you know, quote, unquote one of these games. So I hear you and that's not an easy place to play. I will tell you though that the the insertion of in book in the lineup has just changed my whole outlook for Notre Dame because now all of a sudden they're explosive offensively, you know, and their first three games and they scored seventy total points in their last two..
