Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation
"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.
The Cubs Are Sitting Pretty in the NLC
"They can look at the division. Tony you look at all the teams that the cubs have to but up against dan. We haven't seen a whole bunch of the squads in the central be. You know they haven't made a whole bunch of moves during this off season and in the cubs they're in that basket as well so when it comes to being competitive in the division right now. I think jed hoyer and david rawson as well as myself. I think everyone is of the mindset that this cubs team they can go out there and twenty twenty one and compete no matter what a yeah i think so for sure i mean you look at this division in every single team. All five of them has gotten significantly worse on paper going into twenty twenty one compared to twenty twenty you know the the reds are losing. Trevor bauer who. We talked about earlier in the podcast. I think you traded rozelle glossiest the angels. The potential transcending gray like who knows. We'll see some of that archie. Bradley was it was another pitcher. They acquired at the trade deadline atop reliever for them. He's gone cardinals. Have lost a lot of veteran guys as well. The pirates are trading away. Anybody of value right now in the brewers have you know declined to options are not options for guys like ryan braun and and so on so yeah off five teams really right now. Don't look better on paper than they did last year. But that doesn't mean that there's a wide open division for the cubs to go claiming i think right now the cubs have one of the best teams on paper. They have a manager. Year finalist david. Ross they have all those poor guys in the mvp candidates that we talked about before that if there are bounceback season from a couple of all of those guys than this offense is in much better shape than it was last year. So i think the real big question is just pitching for them you know. Where does the pitching come from from the cubs but yeah i think right now they can compete certainly with any team in the division

"Holy Grail, Banks Budweiser and you, D F I'm Jim Day and my pleasure to welcome in You know him from The Cincinnati Enquirer Cincinnati dot com. Long time beat writer of the Reds, who recently announced his retirement No, John Fei, you can't retire. We brought you right back in here to the hot stove league. How you doing, my friend. I'm good. I'm good. A little. I told you before we came on the air that when something happens with the Reds, I'm ready to react to it. And I don't really have to talk to my wife about it, I suppose. And I put a couple things on Twitter. But it xylitol different, But I'm happy with what I did. Well, you still have Ah, large following on Twitter and still have your hands on the pulse of the Cincinnati Reds and baseball. Not gonna ask you about retirement. Does your what? Your weekend to it? Yeah. Four days. Great. Um, it's such an unusual time in the world, obviously, and in baseball not immune to that. We've talked about off season. This is going to be the most unprecedented off season we've seen And we say that we seem to say that every off season but this one in particular, this is real. This is a whole different dynamic. Um, are you surprised of what you're seeing? I mean, no one's doing much and it cove. It has really affected baseball, maybe more than other entities. Yeah, I think in an ordinary off season right now, the Reds would have their season ticket number pretty well dialed in so they can set their budget by that right now. They don't know. They're gonna have fans, but how many they don't know. I think a lot depends on what goes on with covert it and They've obviously made some moves to move some money around. To not offer contract to Archie Bradley and And Curt Casali that those were financial moves. So was the trade of ratio. Iglesias. Although we're talking about that a little bit. He only had one more year left. Hey, was gonna make $9 million. I think It was. They may have traded him anyway, in a normal offseason if they could get much for him, So I I e think that's a sign that there but is Nick Kroll told the writers yesterday that they're trying to move some money around so they they could make some moves. They do. They do have a big hole at shortstop s o. They have some money to spend there. I don't think by any means. Done and I don't think it's a total salary dump. I just think they're trying to get it in order so they can Fielder, there needs more so than than just bring back the same guy. Iglesias move Didn't surprise me at all. Archie Bradley. Maybe a little bit. But if they are trying to work around some funds to reallocate, um, to address him needs elsewhere of them, You know, I understand it. The rumors out there about and new cross addressed this and I give him credit for, you know, mostly you get the general manager Speak of, you know we're not shopping around Sonny Gray, which they may not might not be. Um, but he said, Listen, we talked about everyone just because we take a call on a guy. Yes, we've talked about him. That doesn't mean we're going to do anything. Um, but I was a little surprised that his name was thrown out there as a possible trade target. But I think that crawl address it very, very well. Yeah, I think with anybody, you throw the name out there that the reason that surprised me is he is a very team favorable contract. You're not gonna be able to get a picture of his caliber. To step in for the money. He's making any makes, like $10 million a year, But again, you have to listen, because if you get a controllable guy who's not even reach, he's gonna make the major league minimum, which is about 550,000 or something like that for a couple years. Yeah, you want him if if he can plug in, but they're e think it would just have to be like the perfect Storm T o Trading because if you take him and Trevor Bauer both out of the rotation, you're you're losing on an ordinary season. You're losing 400 ending. So you have to find that somewhere. Um And it's really tough to find that kind of guy that Can take Sonny Gray's innings and make less money than Sonny Gray. So I think e again. I think Jim Bone was the classic example that that he would throw everyone out there and and see if anything happened. And it usually, doesn't it. I think teams listen to offers on all kinds of guys, and it's It's always There's been internal discussions about some player. Well, does that mean two guys in the Reds front office? We're walking down the hall talking about Mike trout. I think so. I think sometimes there's that much to it. I think there's a little more to this because because we've seen the situation where they've moved money that They think they are listening with all their veteran guys because It's really hard to get the budget in control and then be able to add unless you move some substantial money and other things that crawl talked about general manager of the Reds is in which I've talked about for several years when you're a small market team. You have to be creative, and I love when that sentence came out of his mouth, and that means making hard decisions. That also means trading guys at the right time. On Lee, though, if you're developing players, and you could move younger players in and have a mix of veterans now, maybe that's where the Reds have fallen. A little short will talk about being a small market team and the constraints Sometimes that puts on you. We'll talk about all right, Who's gonna be the closer now? And we're going to take your calls 513..

"Guys anyways for a couple of things we need to do a waste Management Barstool podcast okay during the waste management. Okay I mean. We have a golf podcasts yeah. I know that that's what I'm saying but we need to get the baseball guys with golf. Guys Waste Management. We need to make some Let's do every year. It's that's pretty doubt all right so we have four replays the golf podcast. We'll do a four play starting nine crossover with page sporadic. We've got the few times Z. Same She. She's she's in New York now. Wow yeah well. We'll definitely do that crossover but we mentioned toilet earlier and back when he was in in Boston. I remember John Farrell. He was like the rule with an iron fist guy and it was almost like he was dad and Tori was mom like if you wanted had to get something you go to mom so what what type of relationship do you guys have a Tory and like what type of like clubhouse does he environment is promote man Tori a I mean ultimate players Major. I mean I think you hear that a lot but I mean Tori at least for me. Tell him everything he knows about my relationships on and off off the field he's just Kinda that type of guy where he always presents things that makes you feel like you know he was in your shoes and I think that's the Greatest Testament dettori is he remembers coming up and kind of struggling you know and not being consistent player like he wanted to and how hard the big leases and he never shows you. He never makes a bad face. He's always is going to tell you your role where you stand. I think that's the biggest thing in today's game is the communication factor and he is the best. I've been around. How has he been with you like when I first got called up. I was was like freaking out on like I'm in the manager's office like yeah. I'm thinking back in college when like the head coach is like the scary sky ever but he was he was awesome like he's just there's such a he's a player's coach. We have meetings. You know talk about stuff like that's going on and he's just been unreal. He's a guy towards the guy everyone says yeah. Ah clubhouse wise like that was. Let's cool is I don't know if you WANNA call it leadership council or whatever but every every couple of weeks he has a bunch of guys from different groups of the team come into his office and it's just like bullshit out food. You don't like a base running. Call bullpens being ran. It's just like kind of an open floor yeah yeah and he really does He. Kinda takes comments and he writes them down and he puts into action and then clubhouse wise. He's always said like that your room right guys. Make it whatever you want. However you want to run on it music. No Music Dress Code. No dress code. It's it's your guys run it. How much do you think that that's helped you guys ton. Yeah I think a lot because I said you know guys being able uncomfortable when they come to the ballpark baseball such a weird game. It's it's it's a team game but there's so much such an individual aspect to it right and from mark are staff training staff coaches. Torey the environment that they have is just be ready to play whatever it is you want to go get in the hot tub all day illness show till five when the the game starts be ready to go and we'll get after yeah. That's that's basically what I've heard about him. Always is this like guys players gravitate towards him but for you being a rookie rookie in the league. It was there anything in particular that he like said to you. Is there any like guidance any advice that he gave to you like when you first got up here he remember. I got pulled from the a game against the dodgers early so mad because you know I just punched out a smart Russell Martin Fourteen pitch at and I was so mad and he talked about that and he was like you know you know. Today's not the day like we're GonNa get you to where like you're going to throw one hundred ten pitches and you're going to be that guy for us and literally the next game like you know. I'm looking at one hundred nine pitches so like he he just like motivates. You and you know he's. He's a guy that you want to play for so has it has like the holy shit factor worn off yet like that. I'm still up here. I really ever wears yeah. you know where you're just like. I mean eventually you get into a groove becomes work and you're in a routine and it's so just like monotonous but yeah I I mean like wh what was your what was your first impression of a big league clubhouse. I mean obviously you're like horror stories. Yeah I was like this every team's different some teams. They're like they're trained to be like yeah like younger guys who gives a shit knocking other clubs where they embrace the younger guys in like to what was your experience like that uh-huh yeah the horror stories and I'm like. I don't know what's going to happen but I came up in. Everyone is just like you said. Everyone is just like super welcoming like they're. They were awesome. Congratulations like everything like that so for me like that made me feel better and made me feel where I can be myself and I mean it's been awesome ever. Since how cool is it to get to watch a on a daily basis that means free guys swag man Dan. Yeah I mean to to see him from his first year when we got him over and you saw this bark you saw the talent that was in there and then I tell them every day I was like. I love watching play baseball watching watching him and ask you go back to back like they're. They're amazing man watching watching those guys in the way they've played and both of them especially Escobar but Martine like they're. They're both just such happy guy right like you can't help but smile when you see him do genuinely makes you happy as a teammate as a person to watch these guys play baseball because Escobar's thirty homers homers thirty already yes. The smile is. Se Smile Smile lights up the whole cla bells yeah so I'll ask ask you guys this question if the diamondbacks will make the postseason because blank like I'm not saying you're guaranteeing it but if you if you make it to that wildcard game it'll be because blank who may off. I don't want to put pressure on them. I'M GONNA put it on the two guys we just said because Martin Escobar we're a whole team and it's GonNa come down to our stars the whole bullshit yeah realistically if those two guys keep swinging at Man. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA MAKE X. Factors those guys are I mean. I've seen it time any time again. Just in Cincinnati I mean Marseille the homers he hid and ask you and it's Kinda like if these guys keep it up man. It's going to be tough not to runs or making plays on the filming. Marty's Marti's going from senator so impressive. Those guys are those two guys. Keep swinging man. I feel really good about the chances. Yeah and obviously both of you guys sitting right here. He's he's yeah imagine that you're strikeouts are up this year. I think as a reliever you're already had like a career high and strikers this year. Is that like. Do you think that that's like a stuff thing. Do you think that that's guys they're in like the launch angle mindset where they're all trying to hit homers and you're taking advantage of that like what's the what's the difference. I think it's both at yeah I would say. It's both because there's there's some guys you get your like all right. I just be some guys like man. Those are just really bad swings. Yeah definitely definitely just trying to take me deeds and you read swings. Yeah you have to yeah and then some of us just like hey here. It is yeah here. It is yeah and I feel like there's there's as you kind of like go along the League not allow guys reading swings. Now guys are like all right. He was out on his foot there and then you're just going to be able to defeat depending depending on where we're where we're playing some places don't have TV's and stuff so that you know you do your pre-game meetings but then during the game if there's a TV where you can see like in the bullpen and you can kind of see swings yeah. What are the type of approach guys had but you know when you're not able to do that. It's like on the fly right. Oh pitch it's all right. What was that guy trying to do there. That was a massive swing Yep. What's the situation more trying to accomplish. Is this the guy I'm trying to strike out or my trainee contact right here. How much video guys watching I don't watch time really I'll. I watched it a little bit. You know on some some guys in some areas where like I know I'm trying to guy so make sure that they don't have a high slugging percentage do damage but outside that there's so wash information you guys doing like heat maps. Wasn't it should show you gotta be like I'm a nerd so I am looking. That's stuff and I'll manipulate it anyway. Fit from everything to curve balls of the last eighty one scene he walks less than four percent of the yeah chases this pitch fifty eight percent of means from numbers to percentages. There's everything you could ever imagine. Do you think that there's a such thing as too much and yeah like he because I mean we say this all the time. I don't know how many hitters you've had on this podcast but like if you truly listen to hitters talk like I say this all the time like I'll never get a hit ever again Shit they talk about. They say that they're worried about and trying to cover online. It's nothing you would think of all right. I'm just trying to fill the ball somewhere. Close Zone and you're working inside outside up and down. I'm too old trying to get over the late fall behind you. That's crazy so like I I do either of you because I've seen guys now. Obviously outfielders will carry the card in the back pocket now. I'm seeing pitchers have that in their hat. You guys are never going to get to that point. No that's more of a science thing like yeah because you know a guy even on first base worried about his base coaches stealing scientists -cation nations so you offer you..

"Aw come back to starting nine all that jazz episode one twenty nine this this interview that we d-box interview. I couldn't wait. We've got a bunch of interviews in the tank and I was like you know what this one's cut. The front of the ones that d-backs could use the raw they haven't been playing well recently so this is a very very fun interview you Dallas from the top rope about halfway through just fucking dropping elbows on Archie Bradley and and Alex Young. It's it's a lot a fun. Stay tuned for that again. The d backs could absolutely use the rub the National League Wild Card picture as we predicted an absolute shit show take my whole time line. I've follow. Probably you know a few fans from every team. That's at least in contention. It is mass hysteria in the streets streets. We got mets fans being like we're in the mets. The mets season's over it's done. We're on a jet season. Now you know the cubs are freaking out. Cubs fans for the cubs fans are they're very on edge. which by the way I remember back in two thousand sixteen when then the cubs won the world series and there are a lot of fans that were kind of wondering like will they be as passionate now that they've finally actually one one same aim discussion happened in Boston after two thousand four and no? I think it only enhances it so Cleveland Indians fans if you're wondering like hey are we still. GonNa Macaire as much. If we actually do win one I think it only heightens the passion for for the baseball team. cubs fan still coming out in droves. I like the cubs like the the environment at Wrigley Field recently as pen like a playoff game. We'll get into the cubs because we've got some things to talk about their injury wise but the brew rip to the Phillies can we can. We put a fork in the Phillies yeah. I think this is. I think this is a dog race. I think this is a three dog race in that is is that phillies appreciate. You barely knew Ya that is what it is. This is between the Milwaukee brewers the Chicago cubs and the Washington nationals to see who will be the odd man out. Yeah I mean if we're burying the phillies that means they were burying Manson burying the mets that means we're burying the d-backs but still still time. I guess especially if the starring nine rub comes into play for the D-BACKS CISCO. There's still time for them to get back into thing. We'll see but for now I'll agree with Dallas. Nats cubs brew crew I'm in the mix here but the cubs have caught fire at the right time. The brewers have caught fire at the right time to fucking Christian. Yelich went down. I think it was a week ago today. It was on the livestream. We're doing the livestream every Tuesday. there's a few of us. I think Tommy smokes is going to be in there tonight. Because Luis Severino is returning to the mountain which I'm very intrigued to see how that how that plays out. I'm very intrigued to see how that plays out we'll. We'll get to that in a the second to but there are some moving parts here there are there. There is reason to believe that these these wildcard pictures will got a little bit more interesting moving forward We interviewed Barry Zito today sure did I'm surprised that you we're able to get through the thing without touching your cell phone appropriately well. There's a reason that the camera angle is from my neck up jared so jokes on you pal. you know how much I love the lefties man but obviously Z special place in my heart. No the guy didn't get to be his teammate in the big leagues but as he alluded to run around so it's good to catch up was I mean when that interview drops i. I need to know the stories that I know that he Amana faith were was not about to tell look I. I feel like the second that he's dropping yeah. You know remember me you in Brian. Wilson used to run around together at all. I I was like all right well. I know you're not gonNA say anything. I'll just get this from Dallas later going to need those whether on air off going to need those they're probably off. Promptly I'll give you. I'll give you this much. There was an evening in Barry Zito and I actually actually sang summer loved together. I believe Karaoke one night at a at a bar that he he was having having an event at. I believe but yeah. That's that's how evenings used to start jared got it. So so how did I don't. I don't know if I should save. They've these sea Barry Zito questions for zero podcast but like just because we just conducted the interview I kind of I'm curious now. How did you link up Barry Zito. If you guys weren't teammates I I know he's still only across the bay but right well because of the relationship that I had with Brian will as as as Z. alluded to it's like I said I was always like that's what was really cool about hanging out with Wilson especially during the height of fear the beard and the giants giants are fucking ball and out of control in this like I was able to be like Oh shit. That's your friend of what what does he do. Hold on. He plays big league baseball to like. I got to just be in the in the background. You know what I mean like just along for the right with great so I I yeah. That's how that like. Oh Wow Yeah Dallas spoke you were with the as you were in the bug like you or the law like it was it was it was really funny at first because it was like well shit like we had those conversations the home you come you come from a job you think that's why was thrown out the whole the the lefty in the measuring stick because that's that's really how it was and so then for a young kid being measured up against or be compared to these guys and then a couple of years later here you are having how about a cocktail or two with said individual so now. I'm starting to connect some dots here where it's like okay Dallas Brayden and best friends with Brian Wilson. They're they're in the whole wedding thing together but Brian Wilson People forget there was a time when Brian Wilson was like that fucking guy like he's in the commercials. He's on the red carpet at the SP's. He's a major major player and Major League Baseball L. Manuka Dallas walking around with them and he's the he's the blending guy and then he throws the perfect game so it's all perfect storm storm so it's like okay. I he gets into the mix. Is The in the background guy now. He's got some big time. CLO- and now he's partying and hanging out with all these other a big name in the big leagues. I feel like Jay this entire time. We've been doing a podcast with the man who's just sitting on all these incredible stories none of which we've really he ever heard definite fish. Isn't it really yeah. I feel like I feel like. There's there's is a lot. I mean we're a one hundred twenty nine fucking episodes into this thing and casually stumble upon. Hey Dallas used to party with Barry Zito. No big deal right. This is this is this is me letting you guys know that any all secrets that you may harbor should should they fall upon these years. They don't go anywhere else. It's it's right here. I am H rush tree in and of itself. I trust you're think you're Mike Von. That'd be good Huh. Stories are yeah. Those stories are definitely more more fireside chat material. You know that's that's stories for sure. I will be getting all those off excited for that. do either of you have have any major takeaways from from many games that were played overhang. I oh I thought you were going to ask about last night because I definitely did last night. it was a battle that it was tough. You think you got to out you think you've got everything locked up against one of the weakest hitting offenses in baseball the guy with one home run at the plate against your all star closer and then things just go this. This celts awfully personal. It's awfully just a ripe opera. It's just a ripe opportunity for me to pay you back for those very mean. Spirited Indians takes last week. No you would think hendrix against Phillips would be a battle that the athletics would win but you would be wrong and that's what's beautiful about baseball. That was my main takeaway. What about you guys. GotTa take care of business against the royals yes. That's that's that would be that. Would that would be a takeaway. I was GONNA go with the small condensed Ale schedule yesterday that was that was gonna be by taking away but no you're right. You gotta with an electric tape. That's thanks for that condensed schedule. Angle you gotTa win this. I think now's as good as time visit that you want to start throwing. fucking arrows guy is to let you know that Bhai Crystal Ball about as Clair's it's ever fucking been. Because what did I tell you was going to happen to the lowly tribe. What did I tell you exactly. It's like I said it and both teams were listening. We're like our guys book. It hit the button. It's time the Tampa Bay rays just rattled off after win after win after win. After I told you look out raise probably going to get hot and you know what happens when the rays get hot that means somebody's going to have to shift the bengals early in at eight fucking Oakland. That's for sure there's only one in at this and it's the Cleveland Indians who have found themselves. What's the taste of the division. They are now J. standing her at the altar with their empty. Fucking bowl looking up at me with those big sad dough is asking for just a bit of Porridge Lord Sir just a bit more. Please just a bit get the fuck outta say no soup kitchen. This is the big leagues baby. Here's here's what I hope. I hope that the athletics can can right this ship on this one game losing streak because you'd hate to see this turn into more. You would hate to see this all unravel. I don't know why that's all I've got to say. I'm I'm way too classy for this conversation. That's all I gotta say. I agree with J very very classy. Individual exudes class nothing but class I also had to take anyone who's willingly watching orioles versus Tigers Baseball while I need your. I need your address as because because we're we're sending the police there's. I don't understand why you would subject yourself to Orioles Versus Tigers Baseball in twenty nineteen. It's not a knock on the current rosters slash. Maybe it's a knock on the rosters but it is so like you watch these Games tillich towards the future right here like you could turn the game on or you could just leave it off and you could save another homerun. You know it would be kind of a hot idea doing a lot like going to like tigers game like one of those like day..

"This is all is tonight yet. So tonight by the time podcast drops will have known who took the series between the as in the Astros predictions predictions. I mean, you know where my heart is. That's not even we don't even need to predict that. We don't even need to get an unbiased prediction on who takes this as Astro showdown. So Dallas you're taking the Astros is that am I interpreting number close? Oh, no. Okay. You know what? I have no out of interest in rooting for the Houston Astros to do anything positive for the remainder of this season. Basically, the athletics are the story that I love. They got k. hill against tonight, Jimmy k hill. And we've got taking Trevor's Trevor is going to keep the ball on the ground titles. Gonna have one of those nights where it's like, you know, he's never when he's not getting the calls. Athletics close the gap gimme the aids. Oh, okay. With those as that'd would be nice little half game back last time. These two teams meet face to face going, they'll September half game separating these two squads won a race that would be the NL west. Another great race to the Braves to the Braves, hang onto the Phillies, get their heads out of their asses. That's that's what I'm looking to see. This is. Not. I'm not trying to say that the Phillies are just slip sliding away until the end of the year. At what point to the Phillies there fucking heads out of the rashes. 'cause I don't think I don't think they're just gonna fall out of it. I don't think that they're just going to be. I don't think it Lanta Braves are winning this division by seven and a half game or seven games are more. I don't think that's happening. So we'll see. Open other great week in baseball. We'll meet you right back here next week. So you. You. No..

"Yes, can go to hell. I love him. He's. That was a good idea. I love that, man. I don't care. What idiom saying. Oh, great guy. Good stuff. Better questions. Yeah, let's do it. Nail them. Between Nola Shire's her and Graham who gets the Cy Young this year and who will be the most Irving rate actually winning a word? I know we sort of touched on this, but I'm going to you have to answer this right now who is going to actually win. Sherzer leads in case for nine total strikeouts whip. You leads in the in the stallion categories. As I say in the domination stations, matcher it is max Scherzer Jacob degrom, very deserving. It is not him. It is max Scherzer max Scherzer wins the Cy Young. It is max sherzer is my winner. I think I think I'm going to go a Dallas here. I think Sirs her, and this is also sort of projecting with these guys are going to do in September. So at that also in mind, I'm going to go with sherzer, but I think there's a part of me that feels like it's it's the grump here like he may be should win it again because I was like, yeah, we'll talk about this a week or two because I haven't really, really crunched the numbers the up to date numbers the last time that I looked which was out no, maybe like a month or so ago. It was sure no doubt. But now obviously, I, I saw some staffers. Like seventeen of the twenty four starts or whatever it was that that degrom is made all been against teams that are five hundred better like that should count for something. So, yeah, I think the the gap between the two are tightening, but I would still give it to sherzer. I think the Graham will win. I'm fascinated to see what sort of support Nola gets because like a lot of his case is built on the idea that he has prevented runs despite playing in front of like a uniquely bad defense behind him and not just not just that the Phillies defenses bad, but that it has been even worse than normally is when Nola is pitching. I think that's perhaps a little too nuanced of a case, quote, unquote for the for him to get enough of the vote to overcome those two guys. I do think the grams shiny ERA may win out overall, but I think this could be one of the most tightly voted tightly contested Cy Young races that we've had an either league and quite some time. This is specifically for Dallas. The interview with your boy bones, body Crosby had me thinking, what is the difference in preparation? You would take either on game date ra- leading up to it studying different hitters, such in the minors. Compared to the majors. Well, when I was in the minor leagues, we did not have the technology that baseball has today. It was what you could you could, and I'm not joking. You could like in my minor league experience to a minor league experience of the fifties sixties seventies, and that's not joking. That's pitching coaches and folks of yesteryear telling me, wow, you guys are still doing the same shit. We were doing back then we didn't have radar guns, so that was the big difference. You just didn't have the information at hand either. So it was up to your pitching coach at the time to do the legwork and maybe get some scouting reports from folks around the league. Your advanced outing department might have that information, but it wasn't something when I was in the minor leagues that was being accessed by everybody. So I was an individual who did pay attention to certain numbers, like walk rates, first pitch swing rates. First pitch swing rates with runners in scoring position less than two outs. A lot of that kind of stuff. So in the minor leagues, you are here to do your job. You're here to make sure you understand how to fix yourself out on the mound. In a game scenario, it's about honing and refining your strength learning how to identify weaknesses. When you get to the big leagues, the bottom line, it's about winning fucking ballgames and the preparation, you better prepare for that just like the SAT or or fucking ACT or whatever. Other test you idiots paid to take high school, you'd better you'd better prepare for something like that. Definitely the dudes who take tests out of high school are the idiots. No-doubt. Good..

"That's sort of ventures out into video content. Yeah, I feel like he the rocket is essentially dialed in Dallas, Brayden creation, sort of. Yeah, exactly where he was bored. Yeah, like I feel like. When I feel like if I were to catch the Saugus rocket walking down the street, that guys in full Uni ready like it at any point in time, he could be ordering food in line somewhere and is ready to fell off a three, two slider. No, yeah. Yeah, there's there's no doubt the rocket. The rocket is something else, but he's more of like a Sirius XM creation on starring nine. I like to actually be universal level playing field baseball fan and when yeah, and then there's, there's the tip bay rays are an interesting case because of their surroundings. So you look at how many games back there in the division you're like, oh, here's an unassuming non-threatening baseball team that's just simply incorrect. So I guess sort of when I started to look at the Tampa Bay rays in everyone's like all the Red Sox swept by the raise. Weren't you like Chirpin Yankee fans getting swept by the race? Yeah, because. At the beginning of the year when the Red Sox were just collecting winds from everyone, not just the Tampa Bay rays when were beating the raise, the Yankee fans like, oh, well, you know, they suck those a free winds, you beat a real team, I think. Have you looked at the their their actual team? They're pretty good. Okay. We'll know they're the raise. They suck. You're just used to saying that the race suck. They don't suck. If you look at the overall major league baseball standings, the Tampa Bay rays are most comparable to the Philadelphia Phillies we've been talking about for Bazeley just say you're the Tampa Bay rays or an NL potential playoff team? Yes. Is Tampa Bay rays or in the National League. They are contending for the ill west division. They are contending for the east division, and they are middle of the pack fledgling in the central. But they're, they're in the conversation. If they're they're in the fucking ale situation. Crise. Yeah. So you you look at this damp obey raise team. They lost on Tuesday night. The dodgers won. So they're, they're now a game back of the dodgers, but they actually went into Tuesday night tied with the dodgers and the Phillies. So this is a pretty good baseball team. There are a lot of fun to watch and I don't know how came off, but I was at Fenway maybe like a week or two ago is when Tampa was in town for weekend series. And I saw my guy rocko ball, deli. He's he's walking out walking in and I see Rocco and we're talking. We're catching up and like, you know, the razor actually a pretty good team like you guys don't get enough credit for how good the rays are like kinda came off as a backhanded compliment like everyone thinks guys suck, but you're actually, that's, that's all I took it right now me. Yeah. But as just like I was coming to a realization of a head in front of Rocco be like, yeah, you know, you're. You. A lot of people don't really give you the credit for it, but pretty good. Fuck team realization should have been, you know, this fucking chronic fatigue guy might smack the fuck out right now. I might wanna real that in Secondly. Yeah. Well, fuck it race. Not not a bad squad because remember this is when I had to say about the Tampa Bay rays at the very beginning of the year. The good news is you guys can't cancel the schedule. That's the good news is you guys will be playing Paul in September, and I even said whether it's meeting for baseball or not, I doubt it, but you'll be playing baseball in September, and let's be real. Is it meaningful in terms of where you're headed at the end of this month?.

"I wanna know what those were because what is the furthest back a team has ever finished because they have to be in the running for that being ensure like the Seattle, Mariners. Whoever finished last that year in two thousand one has to be in the somewhere in the fifties. The oils currently are fifty two games back so it takes a historically bad season being the same division as a historically good team to sort of get their, the Orioles have to be approaching that. Are they not. Efforting I'm, I'm attempting to look at that while we're looking at that. I just wanna say that really the Orioles want to stay on brand and wanna like just really be who they are really feel like ending the season with just a crisp ten game losing streak is. The two thousand one, the Seattle Mariners. One hundred sixteen games. The last place team was the Texas Rangers. They finished forty three games back. The Baltimore Orioles are currently fifty two games. Back of the Red Sox are doing it. Seven, seven is the over under on losses for the. For the Orioles out of their last ten games. Seven. Oh, I am taking over. Wow. If they. Yeah, yeah. I'd say over their last ten games, they go to eight. Oh my God. Yeah, they have to. I don't even know what their schedule is. Let's see. Oreo. We just told you I wasn't listening. I was looking at the l. west. It's the Yankees for three, the Red Sox for three and then Houston for four. Oh, they're not gonna win any of those games. Okay. Yeah, they're not gonna win any of those games. Oh, Jesus Christ. Yeah. Wow. So no, they're not. There's zero percent chance that they're going to win. Fifty games yawn Moncada on pace for two hundred and twenty five strikeouts will keep break the single season Mark of two hundred and twenty three set by Mark Reynolds in two thousand nine. Me. This is the easiest question on the board. I say no. And the reason I say no is because I don't think there's a single out of a chance at the White Sox allow him to break the record. Oh, yeah. Wow. That's a good point. Yep, that's exactly correct. And also September bees are going to go elsewhere. Yeah, I agree. I agree with Jay. I would say no to that. The dodgers eighty. Nine wins D-Backs yeah. Dodgers eighty nine D-Backs eighty seven Rockies eighty six. All on pace to finish with fewer than ninety wins will the NL westby one by team with fewer than ninety wins. I'm gonna say, no, I'm going to say the d-box how the ability, sorry to the Rockies tying up to win. Yeah. The debates will do it. The d-box will do it. The d-box have seven games left against the dodgers and the Rockies. They have winning records against both of those teams as of right now as of today. So I say yes. It is won by team or I say, no, it is not won by team with less than ninety wins because it's one by the Diamondbacks with more than ninety. One. Or at ninety sitting around sitting give you some perspective, the Debaecker seventy two and sixty as the Rockies and the dodgers seventy one sixty one. So essentially this question is asking are one of these teams capable or will they go eighteen and twelve for nineteen and eleven in the case of the dodgers? And I think one of those teams, we'll get hot enough to do that. So I don't think the division one with your nuts on the table. J I just rolled with.
