"It may not be the very next day, but we'll take care of it when it doesn't seem to be a situation where it's going to over blow and everybody's going to get suspended. All right, storytelling time. What was the worst fight you were ever in? The worst fight that I was ever in, this was triple-A. I had, I think it was a guy, a guy through it, Jeremy hazel baker I don't know if you remember the name. I was in triple-A with him with the Cardinals. And the pitcher threw at his head, he missed his head, but then the pitcher started, as soon as he threw, he started charging the batter, Jeremy. And I was in, and I was in the dugout. And then guys just started, you talked about throwing blows, guys were throwing blows, guys were ticking each other, coaches were in on it. This was a situation where I was like, normally you're like, you're trying to pull somebody off. Guys were not trying to get pulled off. Guys were going at it. And it was a situation where I never seen a picture throw and then charge the batter. That was nuts for me. Oh, what did you do during the fight? I was one of the ones I was trying to, hey, let's break it up. I wasn't throwing any blows. I was the one that said, pulling guys off, trying to get guys off my teammates, and then also, oh, yeah, I forgot about this. A guy from the other team, when the fight thought when we thought the fight was over, he ran into our dugout and tried to get after somebody and he didn't end up doing anything because we stopped him, but you don't normally see guys run into the other dugout and be able to get in there. So that was another crazy thing. I think after covering baseball for more than 30 years, I'm now conditioned to look for individual players as the benches clear, like, oh my God, watch out for this guy and see what's going to have with this guy and part because I've seen so many players hurting these things. Like the other day of the first video I watched, I was looking for trout because I knew he was mad, you know, he's running in from center field. I was curious about where he would go. And as it turns out, Archie Bradley relief pitcher for the angels suffers a broken elbow tumbling over the front railing, landing on his landing on his arm. And that's the part I think that people miss sometimes is, I mean, when you have that many big dudes going at it, there's a lot of chance for injury. Yeah, and a lot of times you won't even hear about somebody's minor injury or something that happened to them. During the scuffle, right? If it's a big thing, you'll hear about it like Archie badly, but there's probably guys that felt something that are tweaked up a little bit today on yesterday that you never heard about. Yeah, one of the examples of that, there was a massive brawl. I think this was a 1992 between the Mariners and the Orioles, Mike Messina hit Bill hasselman, the bench is clear. Cal Ripken runs in. This is in the middle of his consecutive game streak and the next day he could barely move. And there was a question in the Orioles organization whether or not he'd be able to play because his knee was inflamed. If I have the story right, it was a scheduled off day. And so he got treatment that day and then he was able to play the day after that. But they believe the Orioles did at that time that if they had had to play that day, the streak would have ended because cow getting hurt in that fight. Last one before I go, I want to ask you about different nano Tati's junior, we got more information yesterday about his recovery. Now it looks like he's going to be back up sometime into August when he actually comes back in place. And I think there's a growing question about whether or not he's going to be the shortstop or if he's going to play in the outfield. Some of the workouts he was doing yesterday were out in the field. You've seen him play. You've seen him hit if you're bob Melvin, what you thought process. Man, this one's a tough one for me, buster because defensively we know he's most comfortable at shortstop. He may not be the most defensively solid shortstop, but that's where he's most comfortable. And if I'm thinking about him coming in and being extremely offensive, being extremely productive early on, I feel like I have to put him where he is most comfortable. I almost don't want to worry about him trying to get back to playing the outfield and getting super comfortable there and worrying about that while that's distracting his hitting. So for me, I'm seeing, okay, can I plug him right in at shortstop? Can he be defensively more solid than he's been in the past? And if that's not the case, then I think I started thinking about different ways to make sure he's in the offense. But for me, I have to have him at shortstop just because of, you know, what he represents in the infield. I know there's going to be some misplaced, but I'm also thinking about he's had a long period of time now to defensively sure up his game as well. This is something where, okay, maybe he hasn't been able to swing a lot, but my man's been taking a lot of ground balls. He's been out there defensively. We're doing a lot of work. I'm hoping he's gotten himself better over this past year to where the shortstop situation isn't an issue anymore. That's the thing for me is I'm like, he's got to play shortstop for me. And if that doesn't work early on and I see issues, then I start to pivot and go somewhere else outfield maybe a little bit more DH if we avoid isn't swinging the bat of Hosmer, somebody, whatever it may be, but I got to put them at short buster. All right, ask, where are we going to see you next? You're going to see me MLB central in about an hour and ten minutes. All right. On MLB network. On a Wednesday morning, I appreciate you joining us, appreciate you buster. The 2022.

"Yep. All right, well, a few updates for you here. First, we said in our discussion of the angels Mariners brah that no one was really seriously injured and that was what we knew at the time. However, after we recorded, there was news, and there was another injury, angels reliever, Archie Bradley, was diagnosed with a right elbow fracture, and how did he fracture his elbow you ask? Well, he fell over the dugout railing in his attempt to join the brawl, when did I just elbow and it broke like his former teammate Bryce Harper's thumb. Sounds like he may miss two months. So, Phil Nevin, Archie Bradley's blood, or at least Archie Bradley's broken elbow. I don't know if he bled. Sure looks like that's on your hands. Of course Archie Bradley didn't have to try to jump over the dugout railing, and he didn't have to fall, but had there been no provocation, there would have been no brawl and had there been no brawl Archie Bradley would not have attempted and failed to leap over the dugout railing gracefully with the way he's been throwing the ball recently and what he brings to the Clubhouse. It's a huge loss, said acting manager ray Montgomery. Bradley, of course, is famous for, while being a major league reliever, but also for pooping himself on the field, which gave rise to a famous Meg post in which he attempted to determine when he might have pooped himself on the field, not only will he not be back on the field for some time, but he will also probably have a hard time wiping for a while. In other news, I promised you a Robbie ray update and here it is, Robbie ray pitched 7 scoreless innings against the Orioles on Tuesday, so I suppose that that means that he brought his ratio down further in his worst inning. He allowed zero runs and in all of his other innings, he allowed zero runs. Regression to the mean at work, and I have to pass along another broadcast clip for you. "Leagues means for uc. I'm sorry i. I'm having a hard time taking this alliance seriously. Explain why coming up in the in the five o'clock hour i. I don't know that it's great news for you see. I also don't know that. I'm really concerned that this alliance is something that actually sticks nonetheless. We'll spend some time on it in the five o'clock hour and talk some football with justin at five twenty looking forward to that reds and brewers tonight in milwaukee and. Let's let's be honest the more likely scenario and i think frankly a likely scenario is the reds make the playoffs as a wildcard. I liked her chances. Mathematically if you go to places like fan graphs and baseball reference and espn which measure playoff probabilities. The reds are likely postseason participants. They're unlikely to be a postseason participant as a division winner. Now that means all you gotta do is go when a wildcard game that also means you put yourself at the mercy of losing a wildcard game and the way things dan right now. The likelihood is that that would have to be on the road. We'll see how things unfold but they've got a one game lead over the san diego padres. I like the current makeup of his team. And i like it even more and the reds did something that i think has surprised. Some people because tj antonio's back which is great. It will be interesting to see what his role is moving forward given the fact that when he will last pitch for this team they did not have michael. Gibbons uh michael lorenzen wasn't back yet so that's gonna be worth paying attention to but tj antone is a better option than any number of the left is they have. I think there's a lot of folks who feared that because of options that they would send down. Tony san anton tony seventeen fits in this bullpen. It can get outs in high leverage situations. Would he be the guy you wanted most. No i think there's a lot of folks who expected them to hang onto the lefties day. Have and option outs santillen. Instead they have sean little. And look sean doolittle experiment was i guess. Somewhat worthwhile given what they did this off season. They don't wanna pay archie bradley and they didn't wanna pay rice selig glazes. They paid sean doolittle a little hoping that he could revert to his old form. It just never really took strikes me as a really good dude..

"And i've seen this a lot over the last couple of weeks. I'll be the first to say it. I'll be the guy who criticizes reds ownership. It's like where you been some. I know i've done this and people get mad at me for it. I know it gets trite. But i just can't help but wonder with where this team is right now. Fifty four and forty nine. I can't help but wonder what if about the previous four months. And it's not just giving away the relievers that they chose to give away. What if they would have been a little bit more aggressive in pursuing a shortstop but by the trevor story. Unless there's something. I haven't seen trevor story is not been traded. I don't think there was a player more written about more talked about over the last couple of months then trevor story and as of right now still a colorado but what would have happened. Had they been a little bit more aggressive in filling the back into the rotation. What would have happened. Had they been a little bit more aggressive in finding shortstop or or or or finding a maybe a center fielder. Although i don't know that i disagree with their plan this off season what would have happened. Instead of trading away. Right selig laziest who. I don't think it's changed. Teams either today and archie bradley. What if they would've kept those guys. What if they instead of subtracting from the bullpen. Would've said we're going to go all in with that bunch. Where would this team be today. What type of conversation would we be having today..

"I think you're going to have a really hard time convincing Bob Castellani and maybe convincing. They crawl that they should really go all in. I think it's on the players to put pressure on ownership and put pressure on the front office by the performances over the next three weeks to put pressure on this front office to the point that they almost have no choice but to go all in. I don't know how you really do that now, with a team that's eight games out of first place and has to leapfrog to tins in order to win the division. Yeah, although you know it can be done now. Can you can lightning strike twice in the season, and it's happened before, But I mean, look at that incredible run where the Reds were just to sniff away from first place in the course of a couple weeks where they went on their terror and beat the teams above them. Um, you know, can you do that again? Probably not. I would say I mean, because again, everything tends to even out There's a reason why the Cubs in Milwaukee are playing the ball they are and, um, generally, you know, you play to your own level, so getting those extra pieces in place, But then again, you know, we added pieces. In the off season. You know, guys like Shoko Akiyama and others were okay. This guy's gonna What's you know? So so you know, you took a gamble and lost on some guys, I would say, And certainly the injuries factor as well. I won't discount that. All teams obviously have injuries right now. I just don't see how you work around that with the guys. You have all of a sudden you're going to magically become a A World Series team. What the talent you have, And I think so, Yeah, Look, I tend to think that the Reds are going to get better. The Reds are going to have to play better and, frankly, that's going to involve them overachieving. I mean, is it coming into the reason? I think a lot of us thought this was roughly 500 team right, and they are most people you know, before before opening day, all right ballpark where they going to finish, most would have said. 80 wins 81 win 79 wins 82 wins something in that range. I don't think they've done anything over the first half of the season to really dissuade people from that day today, heading into the final game of the first half of the season, there are 500 baseball team, So let's just do the math, and I don't want to be Debbie Downer, either because there's nothing I want more than a September pennant race Milwaukee Brewers right now who have won nine straight games. We're in Pittsburgh this weekend to play one of the worst teams in baseball. The Milwaukee Brewers have set basically a 97 win peace. Right now, Chances are they're not going to win 97 games, but they're playing good. It's 5 98 baseball 97 wins. Let's just say they play 500 ball the rest of the way Since they have 80 games remaining, that means they finished with 89 victories. So for the Reds to tie the Milwaukee Brewers, they're going to have to win 49 of their last 82 games. That's a lot to ask. Now. They play the Brewers a ton over the next couple of weeks for next weekend in Milwaukee and three at home with them right after the All Star break. But again, let's do the math here. So a team that we thought was going to be roughly 500 before the year. That is exactly 500. Now we are all of a sudden expecting them to play whatever 49 33 is, but that's 98 win ball over the course of a full season. We're expecting that. It could happen, I guess. But again, I think when you put it in those terms of illustrates How huge of an uphill climb. They have, Um, which tends to make me believe Mo that initially, as I said, I think they just stay in Paddick. Okay, with everyone expected to be 500. We're 500 teen. Great. We we we met. We hit the mark now or some fans and the players gonna be upset? Yeah, but, um, then you turn around and maybe do something the off season. Um, I mean, that's feasible, right? It's feasible again. I think I think it would really help if somebody in upper management would articulate What the plan is going to be this offseason because again, the playing this off season was just kind of tread water. We're not really going to go in any one specific direction. We're not going to actively go out and try to make the team better. Right, but they didn't unload guys. I mean, even after Trevor Bauer left and after they gave away Rice, Selig Lacey some Archie Bradley. They still at the core of a decent club, right? I mean, again. Cast the honest and Winker are are starting outfielders on the All Star team. They didn't move uranium as far as they didn't move, Joey Votto, you know they didn't move Mike Moustakas. They didn't go in any one specific direction. I think it's really hard to answer the question What the Reds can infer do around the trade deadline when we don't know what Direction. They're going to go in this off season. Are they going to take the $30 million that they took out of the team's payroll this past off season and put it back into the club? Do we know who's going to be making the roster decisions? Is Nick call coming back if he's coming back with his capacity going to be? Is he the president of baseball operations? Well, they hire a general manager to serve under him when I hire a president of baseball operations. And have Nick crawl serve under that guy Who's going to be making the decisions about the manager?.

Mike Moustakas Trevor Bauer Joey Votto Debbie Downer Bob Castellani Shoko Akiyama 80 games Archie Bradley Nick 81 97 wins $30 million 97 games Pittsburgh 79 49 Brewers Cubs Reds eight games

"They took i mean they signed iglesias to a three year contract on a clip friendly supposedly contract and then they traded him when they were going to get the best value year out of him the last year of his contract right and they traded him or nothing for dude who didn't even make the team and now we're sitting here looking at this volt and i mean how much different this team with. Look if we had a glazed yes at the back of the bullpen. And we just all these other guys up another inning and less leverage situations. I think bob castellini almost made a declaration with trade that i cannot compete as an owner in the national league. And if that's the case. Sell your team. If you're going to be you could. You can't do it both ways. You cannot be the we're going to win championship baseball. We're going to bring championship baseball to cincinnati. You can't be that owner and then make these acknowledgements that i can't win. You can't do both if you if you're going to be the we are going to bring championship baseball to cincinnati guys away. You can calculate it may calculated moves where you trade assets and get big returns teams. Do that all the time. You can't give guys away and by the way as you were talking. I was thinking about aroldis chapman who they traded away and they completely missed the market. There i think they vastly overestimated the public pushback they were gonna get for what aroldis chapman got into that off season and they gave him away for essentially nothing and they gave away for essentially nothing. Because i think to a degree. They overreacted. To a market economically was unfavorable to them last year. But here we are. We haven't even reached the mid part of the season. They could have full. Capacity at great american ballpark and the town has so far given a middle finger to come watching this team in large part because of what they did this offseason. I think the laziest trade is even worse than chapel. We finally make the playoffs. They made the teen worse. We got totally zero for delays. Yes at least we had one or two guys. He made made the team and played a little bit. You feel as bad as it was. But yeah i i agree with you. One hundred percent i mean. I think that. I can't find any legitimate reason in my mind why you make that if nothing else you through the season and then train them some value in the middle of the year right now. Yeah i mean look the the reason they traded him as he makes a little bit more than nine million bucks right. That's why there were no baseball reasons to move on from him. He's he's in his prime. He's thirty one years old. He's coming off an excellent season. He has got a great arm. I know he is over. The last four or five outing struggled a little bit of anaheim but still he was coming off a year in which you looked at him as an asset even either for your bullpen. Or to get something in return if you were hell bent on moving him. I don't know why you would have just said look. Let's see what we can do midway through the season. If it's not working out at the team's not contention will unload them. His contract is going to expire and in that case we could get a lot for him. I mean think of if the reds were sellers right right now if they were sellers in landscape where everybody wants relief help think of what they might have been able to get for rice. Elig gracieuse instead. They traded him to dump the salary and got nothing for him and most teams would look at that. Nine million dollars for a glaze. Yes there's a bargain. Just befuddling and frustrating all the way around and the thing is in look rice. Lacey's is better than archie bradley. At least they got a human being in exchange for rice. Selig laziest not one. That they kept archie bradley. They non tendered and watched him to philadelphia. It's remarkable the iglesias thing ended up being there are second most baffling move. Dj thanks man. We have jeff car back from a kings island. What ride are you about to get on now. I'm actually on the racer. We're about to hit the hill. all right. you're about to hit the hill on the razor. Jeff what do you make of the fact. That have tyler seguin playing so well but for weeks and weeks and weeks i was watching scott heinemann instead of shogo akiyama. What does this say about the potential. Divide between nick. Dick williams who got shogo and buddy buddy about david bell and nick crawl and the current regime who seemingly doesn't like shogo because nee quinn has shown even though he was just a basic add in for minimum money kind of almost skits forgotten move he goes to head and he takes over center field and and now shogo has lost that plane. Something i feel like david bell to give him a little bit more of a shop. Because we're paying seven million dollars for a six man six ounce skilled guy right now but you wanna make when it's been working for the basically win the game against the quinn's you really can't take that guy out right now but on a day-to-day kind of eighth. Was it a calculated. Mistake this off season jeff to not extend jesse winker. And how much money do you think that might now cost them. Given the fact that he's having an all star caliber year. Tell you what. I look at this series against the braves is going to be a big lesson because the resin basically hung around five hundred and kinda like this racer where. It's a really bumpy ride. And just kind of froze all over the place so has this reds fifteen when they go against the likes of ronald junior junior and on the albee's how are they going to handle that. And what's been going to do. It's going to be huge because hopefully they get some guy's back from injury. There's you're right. There's there's absolutely no doubt no doubt about that now. Now again. I asked about jesse winker. They didn't sign him to a contract. Extension this off season that somebody that would probably like to keep your long term. Do you think they made a calculated mistake in not doing that. This past off season. We're now it's going to cost them more money this coming off season. We always jeff. We lost jeff. Jeff cars a podcast. It's called the locked on reds podcast. We didn't drop a phone. Yeah columbine and just i wanna talk to him again very briefly about something else. We still have to play guest the glove reds tickets and we'll have important. Fc cincinnati soccer take. We have to get to. There's something else i want to see. If jeff car will do. Is he getting off. The does the right over that he lose. He loses phone. That loses phone to see if you can try to get a break in before we get jeff back now. I won't be too long. Just text me. He didn't he didn't lose this all right. So he's he's fine. He's he's okay. There's something else. I'd like to see if i could do while. He's at And i don't know if this is necessarily going to work. And i know you did a great job. Is everything. okay oh yeah you'll lose me. I lost at the very end but you. You did a phenomenal job breaking down the shogo thing the the atlanta braves series coming up. Now you're off. It's been a while. Since i've been kings island as i recall when you get off the eraser you sort of walk into this area where there's a lot of like carnival style.

"It was a little Oh, Marva skill like when that pop up would go up and Omar would knock his hat off and runs, you know, backwards looking over his head so that the hat one screen, you know, looking back as he's running towards the outfield wall to see the ball better coming over his head. And Johnny did that right away, You know, to show up that nice, Erin that headband He knocked the helmet off and he took off. And I said, Uh oh, Here we go. And, um you know, his sprint speed, I was told was just as good as Lamonte Wade. They had him rounding the bases. And I got that from the analytics department. I guess that someone tweeted that out there and, you know, I had almost stopped him because I was so worried that he was going to pull a muscle. How you know, because when you go 90 ft as hard as you can. It's uh it's not as dangerous as is going three times that that's what he had to do. So I was so concerned that he might pull a muscle at this longer. He kept going and I almost stopped them a little bit thirds. I thought Pereira was going to catch it. You know, he probably should have a message. So I gave him a quick, you know, hand like, slow down, and then I continue to wave him. I tell you, he didn't miss it Be here is one of our best base runners of the year. He didn't stop completely didn't quit. He saw me and then he saw me wave him, And he just He just downshifted for about a half second, And then he continued, and then on the way home, I knew he was going to make it easy. I started chasing him down the line because I didn't. I wanted him to take it easy. And he was still going on. And I was screaming. Easy, Easy, easy, but he didn't hear me. I loved it. I saw you yelling at him as you as you went down the line. You know, we'll go to school with the professor on this Sunday morning. A couple of things one. Crawford sort of got caught in No man's land on the ball that Harper dictum in right field. But Croft played it correctly would take us through that just a little bit. Yeah, You know, there's some plays on the field that just happened so quick, And that's your biggest fear as the third base coach in and runner at a base. It's when it's a line drive right now. You're you're taught to go back to tag. Which he which he didn't do original because it looked like the ball was going to be in there. Um, and it's a tough read because it happens fast. It's not like a high fly ball, so he went off the base. Then he started to go back as as Harper was getting close to the ball, because You know, you don't want to get doubled off, taken off to home, and he catches the ball. So as he started back, you know that By this time he saw the ball just landed in front of them. And now you have a you know, a guy with a plus arm. Standing and shallow right field and he has to go because Duggar had a good read on it, and he was coming the third and, uh, odd, just hightailed it home, and you know, there's really not a lot of coaching you can do at that moment. This particular plays like that which is the most difficult for a runner. You think about your standing on third, and there's a line drive to left, and it's going to either be caught by the shoe strings or or it's going to land. You know. What do you do? You've got to make sure it's down first, and then hopefully you can score, but I've actually seen Line drives in that manner with the guy in third, Clinton scored because he had to wait so long and then boom. The guy has the ball and and he's standing real shallow and you can't score. So cross had to go because he saw Duggar was on his way here. And Harper's throw was offline, and he made it by great play. Great play are one more here. Uh, yes, they Archie Bradley was complaining about the mound. And my question was, Where was Greg Elliot? The grounds crew took him like 15 minutes. Where were they? What was going on? I think they're getting a Pete's coffee and a cha cha ball at that point in time. Um you know the communication part of it with this Covid is a little bit off. You know they have their little area where they hang out. Usually most of them are down in the clubhouse, but they do. They do go back to their location. But you know, the radios weren't working the way they were supposed to. And and I just took a little longer than normal, but we'll make sure You know that? That doesn't happen again. We have the lines of communication correct here. So what was Bradley complaining about? Oh, I don't know. You know everybody, uh, you know, steps different when you know when you land. Usually it's the landing point. I didn't really watch because I was trying to find the grounds crew myself. I don't know if I had to do with the rubber where his you know, balanced foot was on the rubber. Where problem most like this, where his landing guys digging that out all the time. In both locations and he probably he probably just wanted that, you know, dressed up a little, but I'm not. I'm not sure I didn't really watch the work they did on the mountain. Yeah, well, I was looking for Greg Elliot, but I never saw him. So, uh, does a great job the groundskeeper, But it was one of those moments that what's going on here? So that's what part of baseball what can I tell you? Yeah, it happens. Let's bring Bill and Bill. Good morning. How are you? Hey, Good morning, gentlemen. How are you guys do and I'm glad to hear Ron. He's had to ballpark getting ready for this final game against Philly. Uh, both of you doing good. Yeah, that's so far so good of Father's day. And, uh, it's a Sunday at the Ballpark and Zach Eflin. And what about? Whoa, What about on the bill? What about on the giant side? Sammy long today? How about that? Well, I'll tell you what. I'm excited for him. I'm glad he's starting the game instead of the opener. I think he'll be fine Run. You don't want to ask around a question here. You know, in that Arizona series, Castellanos came in with a great glove. And this was before Yes, hit the Grand Slam and they changed it to a black love. Now there's a lot of teams that the pictures are using colorful gloves. Is this something that you guys saw or was that just mainly from the umpire? Great question, Bill and Happy Father's Day to you, but extra. Yeah, No, it's you can't have a great glove. Um, and it probably has to do with the gray uniforms on the road. Um, it's so you can't a pitcher cannot use a great glove and no matter what, so that was, you know, you can have a colorful gloves. You could have multi colored There was a point where it had to be two thirds one particular color..

"10 11th pitch Reds and Padres with the RL carriers inside pitch coming your way after the 905 news there is there is essentially one question which, when it's answered, will probably define the entire season for the Reds. And I think For most of us, it's going to be what we spend the bulk of the next five or six weeks talking about, although the Reds don't have to wait until the trade deadline to provide an answer to this question, But that question is How are the Reds going to make the bullpen better? Because look DJ Antone's going to come back, possibly as early as Sunday. They may wait till Tuesday, but there doesn't seem to be any thought. That you know he's going to deal with something that's going to require an extended injured list day or surgery or anything like that. That's the hope that seemed to be the prevailing sentiment when he first went on the injured list, and this bullpen has been pretty good without them, But let's be honest man. There's two things about this one. The Reds bullpen top to bottom, There's a lot of unreliable arms number two. Even when teams have good bullpens. They still want help in 2020. The Reds had a pretty good bullpen now. It was a shortened season. And so there were these stretches in which certain guys weren't quite as good and because of the shortness of the season, those small stretches were a bigger deal, but despite having a pretty good bullpen last year In an offense that wasn't great by any stretch. What did they do with the deadline Last year? They got bullpen help help to a degree. It came at the expense of the offense. They traded a couple of position guys for Archie Bradley. Who they then gave away this winter. But that's neither here nor there. 12 4012 Men Reds badly needed to lead off Guy. Good team won 97 games fantastic starting staff a batting order that was able to withstand the loss of Joey Votto. But that year what do they do with the deadline? Jonathan Broxton had a really good bullpen. So teams with good bullpen still need bullpen help teams with bad bullpens, you might argue, need an overhaul. This isn't about just one guy. It's not about one guy coming back, or one guy being added to the team. It's why, when the conversation includes Hunter Green, I am willing to listen to that conversation. But the conversation about the bullpen has to go beyond simply Hunter green coming up and giving it a shot in the arm. So Will they make the bullpen better? How are they going to make the bullpen better? And what are they willing to do to make the bullpen better? Because those to a degree or all different questions. Will they be willing to move on from younger assets? Could they be forced to make a really difficult decision? Involving not even a prospect. But a guy who's here. A guy who's under team control early in his big league career, but a part of this teams Success to this point. I'm talking about a guy like maybe a Tyler Stevenson or Jonathan India, players who on the surface might seem untouchable. But if you want my best reliever, or if you want one of my better relievers, you're going to have to give up something of value. Are they going to be willing to spend money? Are they going to be willing to acquire an arm who might be under team control beyond 2021 can help you in the short term cost a lot in the short term, but that you might be on the hook for financially in 2022. Then I think the question that goes along with all of this. Do you trust this management group, which includes the guy running the baseball operations? Net crawl, but also obviously ownership. Do you trust them? Who support this team. And go and get what it's sorely lacks. It needs bullpen help. I guess the other part of the equation will be this question. Do you have to wait till July? 30th? I go back to what the Milwaukee Brewers did, man and you say what you want about the Reds sweeping Milwaukee, but the right the Brewers had a glaring needed shortstop. In May. They didn't wait until the trade deadline. They went and traded for Willie Adama's from the Tampa Bay Rays. That's by the way I moved the Reds could have made if they wanted to give up something of value because Reds do need a shortstop. You don't have to wait. Told you July 30th. And look this. This may sound like I'm bragging on a team that's won six out of seven. That has put itself into the heart of dependent race. I actually I think I give this team more credit than some do. I think to a degree? I give this team more credit than even ownership has. I think this is a pretty good club. I think it's a club with a lot of upside. We think of where they are. At this point, they have climbed over 500. They are clearly in the race. Now the last couple of games their offense hasn't been all that good. But their offense, top to bottom has been much much much better than last year. Getting an MVP caliber season from Jesse Winker. It's getting an All Star caliber season from Nick Castellanos. And if I were to say to you over the next 3.5 months, Joey Votto is going to be productive. That's not that farfetched. Not not that he's going to be B m V P guy we saw in 2010 or The M V P caliber guy. We saw 15 16 and 17. But he's going to be productive. That's not that farfetched. If I said you are Urania Suarez is going to be more productive. That doesn't sound far fetched. If I said to you, Luis Castillo is going to spend the next 3.5 months pitching like one of the best five or six pitchers in the National League. God knows that's not that farfetched. Heck have I said to you, Amir Garrett is going to be the old Amir Garrett for the next 3.5 months after last night, that might seem a little bit more far fetched. But that's not completely beyond the realm of possibility. I think there's a lot of things that haven't happened to this team that still can give it upside. I think it's I think it's a good club. It's a club that is badly deserving of help from the front office. Think what you have here is an interesting dynamic. And this is the byproduct of cost of cost cutting. But you cannot deny the Reds cut cost this off season. This is the byproduct of it. You have a team that is deserving of help. And sufficient skepticism about whether management is going to give it help. And it is the dynamic that we are going to spend the next month and a half, at least talking about I think this team is going to be buyers of the deadline. I think this team is buyers. Now. I think this team has a lot of upside. I don't think it's a juggernaut. I don't think they're going to run away with the division. I'm not even sure I would even bet on them to win a postseason series. But chances to win around here are frankly few and far between when you've got a quarter century without winning a playoff series. When you just made your fans indoor five straight losing seasons when your most recent post season appearance included 22 consecutive scoreless innings by your offense. You have almost an obligation. To do whatever you.

Jesse Winker Jonathan Broxton Luis Castillo Nick Castellanos Amir Garrett Tyler Stevenson Archie Bradley Urania Suarez Joey Votto 2022 2010 2020 six DJ Antone Reds Willie Adama Last year 97 games July 30th Padres

"Nothing that says that zombies would only afflict people who are really good strategy so maybe in that respect it's it's very accurate and sort of true-to-life that you get some you get some some thinkers on and you get some folks that are just Gonna get eaten. we're unlucky. You know sometimes the thinkers don't make it either and we don't want anyone to get eaten by a zombie thinker or no so. I guess that's what we'd have to say about that. What are we talking about this. This is one. Dan said of the term zombie. Renner is that. It encourages unscheduled and perhaps unwanted segues into actual zombies. But we can move on from that to another of my hobby horses which is pitcher hitting because this was brought to my attention just this week when we had another instance of a pitcher really ostentatiously not hitting just having to hit but no effort whatsoever to hit and i think we talked about this earlier this season when there was a taiwan walker played appearance against matt harvey and he just very clearly was not going to lift the bat off his shoulder. He was just gonna stand there and take whatever came his way until he either walked her struck out and of course he struck out. This happened this week and it was maybe even funnier and it was sort of a a ridiculous situation because it was pitcher hitter against position player. Pitcher and really. That's just a race to the bottom. And i've been meaning to try to figure out analytically which is worse you know which is more incompetent who is trying to hit or a position player who is trying to pitch. They're both pretty terrible. And really you could say it's one of the sort of nice but i'll be at strange things about baseball. Is that we so regularly get to see people do things that they are not qualified to and are not trained to and not selected to do. I mean in many sports. How often do you see someone. Perform as incompetently and look as incompetent as a pitcher hitter does or position player pitcher and these are fairly routine things pitch hitting is an extremely routine thing and position player. Pitching has become a fairly routine thing and one thing that i do. Value about pitcher hitting is that the steep decline over time does enable us to see how much better players have gotten the doing the things that they are actually trying to be good at and so it's helpful to have pitcher hitting as kind of a contrast to that but really are there other sports where you so regularly see people who are asked to do things that you're not at all prepared to do at that high level of competition. It takes like really catastrophic injury multiple people for that to happen right because even when you have your your average backup quarterback is like generally significantly worse than your starter sometimes like really really worse than your starter but like often can throw a pass downfield like they're not gonna be good. There are backup for a reason. And you want your starter in instead. But they're at least operating in the same general position group right. It's only one like really bad stuff happens. And you're getting like the emergency quarterback that things go awry or you know sometimes in football you'll get injuries too to some part of your kicking apparatus. That's not the way to describe it. I am a football fan. But like you'll get you know like something will happen to your long snapper or everyone catches kovic in your face. Citing the fiftieth string person. Who's available eight or like you know the the got. Your punter suddenly has to kick field goals for you but like even there didn't mean with pitcher hitting your guys who have not hit since little league right there in the pick lakes couple of years ago on the seahawks kam chancellor who is their strong safety. Was there like third. String super emergency quarterback and even he had played some quarterback but it had been since you know maybe early college potentially high school since he had done that and i just remember never having see him ever take a single snap so it didn't matter it was just like a thing you knew and if you wanted to feel anxious you could be. And even i didn't really indulge that because it's like oh we at least about backup so yeah it's a very. It's a very unusual circumstance in some sports. I mean. I'm sure that we'll get emails from people being like it's exactly like this thing and that's cool. I am excited to learn about it. But it is a very strange bit of business to have someone essentially flip from offense defense when they don't already play that position exactly when they don't already play both sides of the. I am aware that there are. There are sports. Were you both things. Yes this is not one of those situations so you got in the nhl you get the emergency goalies every now and then and that's kind of a fun story but they are still goalies like they may not be professional goals or high level professional goals. But they are goalies whereas a pitcher hit her is in many cases not really a hitter in any real sense except that he is being tasked with hitting anyway. This came to mind because archie bradley had an at bat and archie bradley unaffiliated now and is a reliever so is obviously not hitting regularly although he started in the past with the diamondbacks and so he hit at times. Not well he has a career. Oh ninety five ninety four.

That's kind of what he is nonetheless. A kyle is back. He's pumped to be here. And i'm going to enjoy talking to him and hopefully you'll enjoy listening to him and at five forty plus can can we just stop with the whole baseball. Needs or mercy roofing. We'll do that coming up in about fifteen minutes that on the heels of what happened last night a seventeen to three clubbing at the hands of the philadelphia phillies a game in which the fills clubbed eighteen hits. Ya had two homers by andrew mccutchen. You had the matt joyce homerun you had the oduber herrera homerun slash bad flip and it was a great bad flip. It is interesting. How people's opinions on bad flips when the guy flipping. The bad is not on their team. Hoskins hit a home run and pretty much. Every pitcher who came into the game for the reds was terrible. With the exception of mike freeman. Who's not a pitcher. And who faced a hitter archie bradley. Who basically told him throw three strikes. And let's get this bad boy over with. It was the ninth time in the reds last. Twenty seven games that they've given up on runs or more that goes back to may second. In the last calendar month the reds have given up nine or more runs in a game. Nine times q ferris buehler's mom nine times for the sake of reference last year in a sixty game season. The reds gave up nine runs or more in a game five times. Last year's reds pitching was good. This year's reds pitching is not sonny gray was not particularly sharp last night but the problem is it was an endless stream of dudes who are either not good or who have never been good. Unfortunately one of the guys who has been good is amir garrett amir garrett came in last night for those who have spent a lot of time criticizing the usage of a mirror garrett bring him in and low leverage situations fine. You're not going to cut him. You can't send them to the minor leagues but at least don't have him pitching when the game is on the line last night. Amir took the mound when it was six to three. The game was far from out of reach but but not exactly with the team clinging to a one run lead not exactly what the game hanging in the balance unfortunately didn't matter he was hit his heart last night. As i've ever seen a mere garrett hit and it's been a problem it's been a problem we can talk all we want about david bell. I've talked a lot about the front office. The reality is this. This is inescapable. This team has guys that coming into the season. We thought they could count on how we could count on. That have been miserable. And yes amir has had his moments where he's come in and pitched effectively. There was a stretch from his last outing. In april through. I think made the twenty first in which he pitched in seven games and he was absolutely lights out pitching light. The old amir garib but as a rule this year his numbers and early in the season. We're still a third of the way through the relief. Pitchers statistics can be kind of deceiving because one or two bad outings. And it just throws everything out of whack but the reality is a garin has not been nearly as good as we thought he could be or is..

"I got it wrong. We were asked. Who's the most likely read to be an all star this year. And i said i'm here garrett then ain't going to happen. As era is over nine. He is struggled with control. He has struggled keeping the ball in the ballpark. He has struggled to keep hitters from teeing off on them. Look in a mirror garrett look casteel to me the biggest story here in the first third of the season has been how bad louise casio has been. The strength of this team was supposed to be the top of the rotation castio gray miley castio. Gray molly tally. For the most part. It's been all right. Sunny gray has been all right. Hasn't been healthy for the entire year. Louise castillo has been an abject disaster for a guy who was the opening day starter former all star guy that many of us just sort of moved into the imaginary role of staff. Ace so yeah. We can look at player underperformance. It's been a huge enormous reason. I don't know what david bell is supposed to do about guys who are playing well. I don't know what david bell is supposed to do about guys who are under performing. I don't know. David bell is supposed to do about guys whose statistical output in two thousand and twenty one isn't close to what statistical output has been for their entire career. I've talked maybe more than others about ownership right wrong or whatever. Reds ownership chose this year to slash payroll and that came at the expense of the team. You could say to me well archie. Bradley isn't exactly lighting up in philadelphia or rice. Selig lacy is isn't exactly carving hitter's up in anaheim both of those guys have numbers are skewed by you. Antone brings heat in push for Cincinnati Reds' rotation

"Reds played tonight and three hours against the kansas city. Royals perhaps not with these same amount of excitement as the night before her. Green and nikola delo pitched tj anton in relief last night against the dodgers and again that ended with a four four tie. I will admit to you. I get the purpose behind the rule that a team on defense can roll the inning over and basically ended prematurely as a fan. That's not much fun. Tony larussa has said as much. Tony larussa and i are on the same page about anything. That's saying something but above and beyond the outcome of the game which obviously doesn't matter. Tj antone pitch last night and he was phenomenal two innings. His fastball was ninety. Seven ninety eight ninety nine killer slider filthy curve five strikeouts two innings gave up. Just a hit. This is a guy who was a bit of a revelation. Last year made his major league debut with the reds early in the season started. Four games came in and relief and nine others and did a really really nice job. Here's david bell on what he liked from. Tj last night looks very lockton. Yeah maybe could've been the best basketball. I've seen include. Let's santa law so good last year. But his fastball of really good is everyone which means it just locked in a totally kind of grown accustomed to tj being very focused and determined so even those beverly in the spring doesn't surprise me at perching david bell last night talking about t j anto. I don't wanna make too much out of one. Spring training outing the didn't count. There is a lot of foolishness and doing that. But he is a part of a mix of guys who will ultimately answer one of the critical questions about the reds this spring. Which is who's gonna make up the back into the rotation right and even if he doesn't end up as a starter he could be a valuable member of a bullpen. that said goodbye to two quality. Relievers this offseason and rice laziest and archie bradley. But what role will tj antone bien after a good two thousand twenty. Here he is and what role he would like to be. Yeah i wanna start but wherever those. Tv's all right. Good short concise. It's the right answer. You don't get the sense just listening to that that he's going to be upset if he's not a starting pitcher but that is what he's been for most of his professional career one hundred and eleven appearances in the minor leagues one hundred and nine as a starter with different levels of success. I don't think there was anything about just looking. At his minor league statistical profile that would have suggested that he would emerge last. Year is valuable arm but he was. Era to eighty again pitched started four games when needed member wade. Miley had to miss some time. Sonny gray mr starr disc- he came out of the bullpen. Nine times and did a nice job. He'd really did a nice job last year. So now the question is does he factor into the mix a little bit more in the race to be the last starter.

"But, yes, he's a notorious list starter doesn't usually perform well. It's spring training, but If it's if they get 162 games will have a lot more time than he maybe had this past year when he was struggling a lot and they really needed you guys to be ready right away. Not have to like, you know. Hit their way into a decent season. That wasn't possible for him last year. Yeah, and You gotta be confident like of the management of this team that it's not going to back to 12 or whatever it is over. You know, 162 game season if they get that many ended His team will eventually hit. I'd like to say that I can't guarantee that. Their offense has been struggling now, two years in a row. They did not have a good offense in 2019, either. Overall, they were one of the teams the bottom of the list on offense there as well. They really have been going with the home runner walk or strike out the three true outcomes. They call it and possibly would be nice to see them diversify a little bit more. Line the ball with a bit more to the gaps and move guys around. They need to do some more of that, In addition to hitting some home runs, and then we'll see but They need two more offense, and that's why for them. It was a little disappointing because a couple of the short stuff that we're free agents were also good hitters, and that would have provided the boost to their offense. But you expect that guys like loose Takis and Castano's And even Flores, who had it down here, but they're not going to be Down permanently. They their numbers and their track record says that they should be hitting better than that, and that they should be getting better than 10 to 12 as a team so I would be Somewhat guess trust but verify on the on the offense, they should be able to do better, but you have to see it first in the field. Yes, and You know, Dave lose rice. L. Iglesias, Archie Bradley. Robert Stephenson is there enough in the bullpen? You want to cover up? You know those losses and maybe even Be as good or better. Hard to say that they've been busy in one area. You know, it's it's not a sexiest of moves, but they've made about six or seven smaller moves to bring in relievers, guys that maybe he would Have not had great track records in the league. But have that high upside or have that one pitch that really let his electric and I think they've become pretty Uh, Pretty optimistic that guys like they're Johnson and now no new assistant pitching coach. Eric Diggers can use the technology. They have to show these guys how to Maybe make the most of what they have and make them better. And you'll see some guys maybe make improvements. That being said I think with the cooler than situation you have Lucas Simms, who really stepped up last year. You have a mirror care. Yeah. Lorenzen. And tell him there's some guys that can pitch in that bullpen, and we'll see. I think Robert Stephenson..

"They can look at the division. Tony you look at all the teams that the cubs have to but up against dan. We haven't seen a whole bunch of the squads in the central be. You know they haven't made a whole bunch of moves during this off season and in the cubs they're in that basket as well so when it comes to being competitive in the division right now. I think jed hoyer and david rawson as well as myself. I think everyone is of the mindset that this cubs team they can go out there and twenty twenty one and compete no matter what a yeah i think so for sure i mean you look at this division in every single team. All five of them has gotten significantly worse on paper going into twenty twenty one compared to twenty twenty you know the the reds are losing. Trevor bauer who. We talked about earlier in the podcast. I think you traded rozelle glossiest the angels. The potential transcending gray like who knows. We'll see some of that archie. Bradley was it was another pitcher. They acquired at the trade deadline atop reliever for them. He's gone cardinals. Have lost a lot of veteran guys as well. The pirates are trading away. Anybody of value right now in the brewers have you know declined to options are not options for guys like ryan braun and and so on so yeah off five teams really right now. Don't look better on paper than they did last year. But that doesn't mean that there's a wide open division for the cubs to go claiming i think right now the cubs have one of the best teams on paper. They have a manager. Year finalist david. Ross they have all those poor guys in the mvp candidates that we talked about before that if there are bounceback season from a couple of all of those guys than this offense is in much better shape than it was last year. So i think the real big question is just pitching for them you know. Where does the pitching come from from the cubs but yeah i think right now they can compete certainly with any team in the division

"Twitter question for this hour was was dealing with the red shortstop Pursuit, which fridge and shortstop would you prefer for the Reds Right now? 56% say, d d Gregorius 34% say Marcus Simeon and 10% say Andrelton Simmons that on Twitter at Lance McAllister, thanks to barley corns, three locations. In northern Kentucky for presenting the Twitter feed. And I have a bank of lines open. 5137491 7800 the big £1.700 on a TNT for you to weigh in on the shortstop conversation. Speaking of which, when D D Gregorius joined me Tell me about a month or so ago, We talked about a variety of issues, and, of course, freed and see was first and foremost for trying to figure out what was on his mind. At that point, I talked to him about the process What he's looking for. In his memories of the Reds. Here's the former Could he be future again? Red shortstop Didi Gregorius. You are a free agent. What will go into your decision on where ultimately you play baseball in 2021. Let's say Something that they're a good team and a team that wants to win. So I think that's what I'm shooting for. You played for David Bell when you were in the red system. Did you enjoy your time in the red system? You you were signed when you were 17? You are a youngster. Then what did you think of your time in the Reds organization? I had a really great time when I was there. You know what? They were the first team to give you the opportunity to come to the stage and play so You know, I always thank them for that and described that time against local. So I mean, I had a really great time playing, got to know a lot of people and had a really good managers, any coaches and coaches, So I mean, and that they helped me a lot to improve my game T o till today, you know, so I talked to some of them toe. No. You always need that little reminder What to do to keep staying on their good fat? Did he take me back September 9th 2000 and 12. What do you remember about your mate? Your first major league hit? Whatever you know, I know it was the infield hit. Sure, ground really short and in the hole. That was when I had a little bit of speed. You're in the starting lineup and your bad in between Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto. What? What? What was that experience like it as a major leaguer for the first time. You know, it's funny, You know, I always joked around with Brandon. You know, he talked a lot and We kind of tell always told that I have fun and play the game the right way. You know, soon as I said in 2011 when I was in a big league camp, so hey, helped me a lot. Coming up, and I talked to vital a little, but he doesn't talk that much. But I talked to him a little bit, but it's always good to know T here everybody's story and how they got there and all that stuff, so that's always a really good stuff. You know, because you're a free agent. I have to ask. Are you open to possibly coming home to play for the Reds? I'm open to listen to anything. That's the thing. So anything that's good. And that game Dr. Been trying to do everything? Yeah. I mean, I listen and see what they have to offer. Have dollar talk so ever known. Have they shown any interest in you either to you or to your agent to this point. To the agency. I think they talked a little bit. If I could be a go between in the negotiation, just let me know. DD, all right. Didi Gregorius when he joined the last month, talking about his future, he is, um he's being pursued by multiple teams. The report from Jim Boulden yesterday was The Reds had expressed interest in Marcus Simeon. As DD mentioned back then the Reds had had contact or at least conversations with his agent. From that standpoint, the Reds have not been tied to a least I have not seen many reports of them tied to our interest in one Andrelton Simmons. We know this. They need a shortstop. I would think DeeDee and the other the other than the factory about DD he was coming off of Tommy John surgery, so I think it's fair to say although he'll be 31 in February. I would think another year removed from the Tommy John surgery. Now, as I say that I don't remember if it was his throwing arm or not. Now, I think about it, but you would think it least he would be more comfortable one more year removed from that surgery. Um He's a guy who makes contact. He's a guy who knows the organization. He's a guy who played for David Bell when he was in the minor leagues, but also keep in mind. They had a crack at him, and he had a crack at them last year at this time, and he chose to side with the Phillies, and by the way, Speaking of the Phillies reports tonight indicate the Phillies are expressing interest with Freddy Galvis. Freddy Galvis was a filly and eventually went to Toronto, then went up with the Reds that the season before so the wheels turn and you would think it's some point. Hopefully, it stops with one of those three. I would say, D. D is the safest I would say. Marcus Simeon is the one with the biggest upside potential, but it's ah A bigger risk because he doesn't make a whole lot of contact, and he's not much of a fielder. And then my fallback is probably Anderson Simmons, who I just did It bugs me that for two years they talked about his ankle. And if he's not the defensive player, he once was that I'm not sure he is much of a help in the mix of one of those three, the other issue Reds related before the top of the hour, I mentioned off the top that Archie Bradley Side today with the Phillies Mark Feist sand of MLB dot com says it's one year six million. Here's what is much as I made the case last night that the Reds need to and much like the Padres did kind of take advantage of the opportunity in the NL Central. How the rest of the division is basically standing down. That the Reds need to take it. It's Prime position more so than any time I could imagine going forward where you're going to have an advantage where nobody else is doing anything to say. You know what? Maybe we hadn't planned on doing much, but if nobody else is doing much, let's do something. It's still it is hard.

What about what about Simmons from, uh, Angels and Siemens from Hope. You see the Red sun and every one of them. I think they'll say they wouldn't shock me if they signed the one that's left. I think it'll be the one that comes to them rather than the one that they go after. I think the the price will determine which one they get. I think the cheapest one is will wind up in Cincinnati, and I don't know. I don't know which of the three that might be at this point. They're all flawed in some way. Um, they'd all be better than Freddy Galvis. But they all have flaws, so none of the three really dazzle me, but they need somebody to play shortstop Who's major league ready? I like to see them. I mean that they shot me. I mean the test Alina's They went in hibernation over the winner. They went in. They went into hibernation and one minute season that that skirt him to death and getting rid of Archie Bradley. I mean, that was stupid. It was stupid. I see him get rid of Of the closer Eric Actually, that, But get rid of Archie Bradley. You know, I've been I've been a fan of reds this year would be it would be in 65 years for me. If you can't do five for him, then what are you doing as an organization? I'll give you that. No question. Mason the next Stop, Kyle. Welcome to sports talk. How you doing last? I'm very well. Thanks for calling. Hey, First of all, I think that what you said tonight has been right on it. I mean, everything You said about the money and spend a little bit more. What? Whatever. It's been right on, Mike. My question is, uh, Tyler Stevens, and I think that's catcher we have. Despite, you know, put the Barnhardt being a great glove guy. I think Tyr Stevens the future. As far as the catcher. And with that said, I want to know what's really the situation with Trevor Bauer. You know, um Yeah, I want to know what's what's that? Well, let me give you the simplest answer on Trevor Bauer. I'll give you two answers one He will never re sign here, and he will get upwards of 35 to 40 year. Maybe it's a one year deal with somebody else, and the Reds are gonna be able to touch that. Maybe it's the Angels. Maybe it's the Mets. It'll be somebody and it is going to be a couple of truckloads of money, and maybe it's a one year deal or more, but it's not gonna be here. All right. But yes, that makes sense. I understand that ate, but as far as a Sephora's Tyler Stevenson goes, he could be. We could be a Johnny bench down the road left. Now let's pump the brakes a little bit. Remember, he hasn't even played it Triple A. They need. They need him, um to produce, but let's kind of tamp down the expectations for him in his first full season. I don't think you'll be AH, split with Tucker. I don't think they'll each get equal time. I think If there's a D h he could even d h, But let's let him grow a little bit before we start talking, Johnny bench. How's that? I'm good. I understand. All right. Hey, thanks for calling. Thank you. Have a great night. Yeah, there's gonna be some growing pains with him. I know we got dazzled. His first swing of the bat was a home run and the natural then a in the ball came unraveled on the scoreboard was, you know a crackling and there were sparks and flares flying as he rounded the bases. Um he's had a short sample size. He struck out good amount in that short sample size, and he hasn't played a triple A So it's just kind of easy men. I understand why they made a move. I mean, act he's been in like this past year was your what? Six in the organization of your five. This is, you know, fish or cut bait. If you can't turn things over to your pride. No, he's a high school catcher, and that's different. But if you can't turn things over to your first round draft pick, it was a catcher in your five or six of the organization and you got some problems, so they're turning it over to him and part With what? Tucker Bernhardt. How about Let's go here, Doug. Welcome to sports Talk. How we doing, lad? Hanging in there. How about you? I'm doing good. You know what? I was thinking back on the ridge season. I was like I was er season left. It went by so quickly, Right? Well, there there was so little production. It was just like it was, you know? You know, it is a moral excited. There's no doubt Go back and tell me when the Reds have been relevant for more than one season at nine. Well, I'll get I'll give him credit 12, 12 and 13. They made the playoffs and that was back to back years. God. But other than that, Oh, yeah. Absolute was six straight losing seasons after that. Problem, sir. The caller before, said the Reds have been running from the money issue, and I'll say they've been running from that ever since they let Pete Rose go, and they broke up the big Red machine. Well, now, let's be fair Last year was the most money they've ever spent on a pay on payroll. Well, God may not all agree it is, but you know again, I mean, and I understand you have to take a step back. Uh, you know, you know, Still not knowing how many fans we're gonna let into the game? I mean, I could play. You understand that? You know, But you know, the Reds are also you know, in competition out with soccer program how much of that was something I was gonna ask you. You know anything about the upcoming FCC? Season. And Do they have? There's somebody like you that will be talking about Her program and really bringing that to the forefront and Cincinnati with this new stadium and everything, uh, talking about him and someone like me in terms of what we don't. We don't have their their game, so there's not like a voice of them or something like that. So that's That zoo all I can offer you at this boy. I mean, I certainly talk about because I go to their matches all the time. Right. Well, I just didn't know how much more they were going to be, you know, doing to bring it. That's a good cook. That's a very good question. And that is ultimately up to them. And I don't have that answer right now. Doug, Doug. Thank you for the phone call. But before you know it that season is gonna be here.
