"Streets of rage four. And to all you 2D beat them up guys, I know that that is those are two vastly different games. But the job here is for us to make them feel more yeah, right. And we are working on the vertical slice right now and we're trying to have that out this year for something that people can play in steam. Vertical slice demo. Yeah. But yeah, we want to do about four levels with two bosses. And we have another book like a proper novel coming out for the fourth series. And that's called the remnant, and it'll launch alongside a comic, which is just an adapted version of the first two chapters. So when you were putting together the game, when did you decide on the comic part? Because that was what surprised me when we were talking on iron lords, was like, it was you did a lot. You sort of hustled multiple things at the same time. And you got a comic out as well. Did you one day just go, I want to also tell these stories and so I'm going to do the comment and just go hire people to do that because you don't do the drawings, right? This is like, I can't draw to save my life. Gotcha. I can code and I can write scripts. That's all I know. And I can fund. Other than that, that's where my skill set ends. So yeah, I had to put together a team and believe it or not, the comics are way harder to do than the games, right? Because you have to find a team of people that kind of are simpatico with you and your vision and the style that you want. So just getting off the ground, there are like two finished versions of prints of Arcadia that will never see the light of the day. Gotcha..

"You take care of yourself and your kinks you'd be good will be ending in line. Keep you in line is a consenting dumb baby keeping you in line online and certainly only let them keep you online if you're having a good time and don't stay online too long get out way around route runaway here but when you're there look us up okay. We're here online all the time actually but is bad for you actually to stay online ov. We're struggling with it ourselves. We try to get off line as human beings and do our yoga or have sex take a nap and then we have the city conspiring against us. We have to be working all the time and the internet and how it is how long we can work inhumane. That's not this is not. This is not the arcadia. I know we are. We don't want to go back to the times. You were concentration place. Yeah concentrating de constantly concentrating. It was Held i hear a lot of asian americans. They have the prisons ready for us. Be careful anyway. We're consenting kink and we do promote that we are king positive we are not for this nonsense of telling us we can only do this or that when what we're doing is not illegal. Of course we are law abiding citizens and we are also code abiding. So let's be good neighbors and y'all should be good neighbors. Y'all should be good in general and happy in general not always happy and certainly. I am not always happy. I admit that. And yet i try to be happy and mostly i am happy and mostly you should be happy. Don't be so happy won't kill anybody. Okay so a little unhappy where you cry okay. I cry but mostly be happy and try not to hurt anybody. Even when you're unhappy see you can be unhappy. And then you grow but don't hurt anybody including yourself okay. Don't be so happy you start like killing yourself or something okay. Don't hurt yourself although if you're gonna do that don't kill everybody else just yourself. It's dance we do. We good people. I try to be good. it's hard it's hard but could be happy trying to turn anybody including yourself make like bonobos see. That's my primate view. You look at the bonobo way and you try to be bonobo. Female empowered and piece of good book through pleasure and mail wellbeing. And it's in the book and good sex very good sex kinky kinky sex and no war no murder which is unusual among primates. Anyway make like bonobos not babboons. Although it's funny there is one babbling tribe that became bonobo. And it's in the book. The bonobo way the story of that tribe but mostly babboons are violent assholes like a lot of humans we now and so don't be like them be like bonobos make love not war make love even if it's kinky.

"Very impactful my childhood in a good way or bad way. I don't know. I think it's a mixed bag because little foots mom does die. Just i felt very emotional watching the land before time movies as a child. How many movies joined up seeing like twenty three. I mean i would say the first three. We're all on scene definitely seen one the one where the they have to like escape. Like basically like penn. Jia breaks apart. I don't know but petri well. We're going to take the patriots smoldering scully alias. And we're gonna to finish off season six next week. Just as you've been loading it we have two more episodes. Though they are the last two episodes of the season. They're not connected not at all you. This was true to steaming. You may before. This was an episode. You really want to wash. we're going to squeeze it in. I don't know why. I liked this episode so i'm not sure that you'll like it. I don't know if people it's one of those episodes. That's like it sticks out to me as being something that i really like. I don't remember why okay. Maybe it's it's interesting. It's a little emotional times like in a weird way like not in like a forest way which is fun and then season six episode twenty one field trip which i imagine is some sort of bastardized. Magic school. bus knocked off course more. It's like i don't know child. Murderers and it turns out. Miss frizzle is the one who did it with her sentient bus. Unfortunately no but that sounds like a great episode there at the x. Files one more time. Just so i can write that episode and then the season finale season six episode to biogenesis. You said it right. I know some empty says biogenesis. I for some reason. That's what my mind jumps to. When i read the i mean it is but i think it's biogenesis. Almost sounds like a disease does it does. and this. I mean not far off but reimagined that biogenesis is much like all the other premieres and finales is are focused It's been a. We've been art focused by can imagine something's going on that some students going on. I don't know it's it. I don't think it's about colonization it's about you know the rest of the alien situation we're going to. This isn't i. Don't wanna say in newark but this new alien stuff. Because i know that we talked about this right with two fathers and one son that they want to for lack of a better term. Kill off that whole yes. So this is hone station stuff. Not about colonization..

Oh it's time to dig out a reflecting pool because they think the clients are buried in their front yard so they said they're going to get under the top soil you know they see some some bubbling crude. They don't find the klein's but they do find some previous property and client namely the little weathervane. That had been mysteriously delivered to them and they look at it. And there's a label on it that is tied to glocks company. Google says he produces outdoor furniture patio furniture not for suitable for our properties that you could use it inside as like a joke that he makes so basically they find that this outdoor furniture thing came from coke lack. Meanwhile big mike is alive. Yes big mike is alive. Buoyed up probably stinks to high heaven that night and we know this because we've scully. "To be careful what we call each other. Our son tends to think that everything we say. Is that truth so maybe we should stick with poopie head. I think that's call you from now on exactly i would say in general. Everyone's just like terrible. It being liars as well and i actually yes. They're all very dog. 'cause like i go. Gluck was a good leader. He would give them sort of the line. Know okay. this is what you tell them when they ask you these questions. It said they asked the questions that are like. Oh that's a nice sign. Where'd you get so weird. Yeah i also think there's an aspect of what was his they don't really go into it. I know why he did all of this. But like he a gene fogel wanting this perfect idyllic community and basically sold his soul in tibet and ritual like truly truly well and we get the first dose of this right with him. We see a bunch of random statues and masks on the walls. Yeah and so i guess. He traveled to bed. Found this ritual for topa. Which is what this creature is. And that's what's going on here but no way. I don't think he ever told anybody. What exactly going on. no. I wonder how long this i mean. I guess they said what. I just third appearance since. Nineteen ninety-one on fertile e. Seven eight nine people at this dinner party that are like a non it. I don't think they know exactly what happened. This is win and win wife. They just know something. Bad happens to people that. Break the rules and they're not going to have that happen to them. I do like moulder is able to essentially say whatever he wants because scully can't correct him so when they're asked how did you two meet. This is when they invite them to genoa. We met at a ufo conference. Is this when they invited them to dinner. Yes and that's when they have dinner. I mean that's when sort of go glock tells them right because because when is sort of like his crony yeah white saying you know you need to help them because there are the next door neighbors as well where we also get the division of the genders. Yes so basically. They're all like they're like. Maybe we should retire for for dan. Cigar or like. Oh no we have to walk the dog. would you look at that. Please don't ask any more questions. I have to go walk the dog now. Gasso scruffy is the dog. And i guess they are walking. The dog and the dog gets away from them. And it could town of sewer drain. Luckily penny wise ones. I don't know shallow sewer because all out of it but yeah the dog was able to crawl out and he was like covered in goo and around his paw is like a necklace. Big mike's conducive snap class. Because big mike is a vet and noticed that it was like oh. I'm a medical doctor. And he goes well. I'm an animal medical doctor. Yeah so we should also note that the the goo that is on the dog is what they found in the ceiling of their house Yes so they basically go through their house with a fine toothcomb because they're hopeful that they'll find some evidence and residents of the murder couples..

"We don't know why she stuck in this loop like you know with with Phil right. I think the up phil fell. No no no. that's the. that's the round. Hog the groundhog. Ned ryerson is not no. I think it's a character naming. The it's me ned royer send. Yeah but yeah. I guess the the point there is at like we know that he needs to change himself like allah scrooge another pilmer movie but Come a better person but with this. We don't really know anything about pam and we just assume it was phil connors. It was so connors. Pucks the tiny phil as the irony. Guess never made that connection but we end on it being tuesday. Yeah so he wakes up and he looks at his watch. And it's tuesday right and his floor. Still i but it's because of what happened the day before. Yes yeah which is good. How at least we get rid of the water bath. Yeah well that's what do you think has to do in terms home repair anything. He's just gonna like listen powered stink. No i mean. We recently had a lot of flooding here. So we're very much aware of. How much damage was done in. A lot of people in this area have basements that are like renovated with carpeting. The bottom and as as we've seen walking her dog around the neighborhood a lot of that carpet had to be ripped up you unless you can suck all the water out of it. You have to get rid of ecstasy. Bold molter had to pay a probably a hefty sum to the landlord. The car i mean. I don't know if he was like fine with living in mold but yeah not here yet true. It's not good for you. To breathe in moult are who's very different episode of fun. It was fun to watch again. It felt distinctly different to me. I always enjoy the concept of time loop unless they're trying to watch it. I mean this didn't have kelsey grammer. Flying out of also anything to write home about. It's nothing groundbreaking. As far as television that we've seen but at the time. It probably was a little bit more groundbreaking. It makes so much sense to me that you said this was something. A little bit of a rush. Absolutely see this again. It doesn't really fit in with a lot of x. Files stuff either mounts for the week or mythos so i could see them be like and unless there's effort in the writing is a little bit more phoned in when it comes to like big picture bodily. I'm pretty sure they go to like three locations over the course of all because i spend money on blowing up a freaking bank true true but they probably could just do that one reset..

"And basically. This happens a few times and she pam trying to save them each time now because he turned around and looked at her what she'd never done before. Yeah exactly so now. This time when mouldering skill you're talking about you know free will and Scully basically says you know it doesn't matter your character determines who you are and what you do is like there's the butterfly effect nab. I've watched them. And so scully. Serve like pushing on that idea right decides in this iteration. I'm gonna go cash the check. She's like let's change our fate. She's like i'm going to go cash the check but no go. She picks up the bank stub instead of the check. Point of like it has to take a really big event pushed this boulder out of the way. And so this is the loop also dear listener if we forget to talk about a loop or detail line. There's a lot of loops anyway. There's a lot of luke swoops this time. I guess that he pam does convince him that things are repeating themselves. This is the time he's going after. Scully who's gone into the bank and this is right before the blast goes off. He's saying he's got a bomb. He's got he's got he's got a bomb because he's trying to make himself remember it for the next time around. Will you know so. I think it's this time that she stops him. Yes him about everything to remember me. And then there's another loop for like she goes to visit. Scully theory yeah. Yeah like okay. If you go to the bank you'll die. Yeah and she finds scully in the fbi. Build in the walks into the middle of the office. And moulder this is talking about like deja vu delays being older. You realize deja-vu is not actually a physical effect but just the unconscious escaped. And so moulder like you said is is on it. Yeah or at least trying to ban trying to be. He approaches pam Trying to get the bond with things. I love her sort of quote. We're all in hell. I'm the only we'll see basically tells him don't go to the bank today so he goes to the meeting with skinner and when he gets the meeting with skinner realizes that scully has gone to find him at the bank and so then he has to go to the bank and then he i think this is where he's like. He's got his alabama step mom because that's moulders variable in this equation right and that like he's the one that could change pam consistently approaches him. Like no matter what i can do i keep trying to change it. It doesn't happen. Drugged bernard police wild to think about how she's been going through this for so long and it's interesting spencer. Wrote this in that. If you view this episode because again the narrative really makes no sense. But i guess if you view it more so from her perspective at her fate is that she's supposed to die and she hasn't yet when she finally does. That's when that's what breaks a and that's when things can touch there's the aspect of that moulder so moulder confronts. This is like the last time it happens. Moulder goes into the bank to confront and when he gets to the bank he starts saying that to himself and they look around and he's he's bernard and he confronts him before he can do anything and that i guess changes events on such a fundamental level that nothing will move forward way. It did before right. Basically he tells like he planned it ahead of time for scully pam to get into the Because i guess pam again was was the one behind it like she was. She had to be inside the bank..

"Truth is out there in here. Who knows that either way. You're opening up the bloom files here on post show recaps next files. I watch slash rewatch. Podcast everybody mike. Bloom here to talk about two more episodes of the x. files season sex. Of course were off last week but angela bloom. If you were caught in a time loop it would just be the same week to you. So sonny be considered an off week will be rainy. Dismal learned is. Oh was that playing in the okay. I think you're thinking of like groundhog the bird or a. Yeah not that. Yeah definitely not that bad rendition of sunny and share. So we're talking about monday and arcadia episodes fourteen and fifteen of the x. Files season six as we get loopy and we get spooky. Yeah very much sow So what'd you think. Overall i think they were two very different episodes interest. Interestingly enough like monday doesn't feel like an x. files episode. i don't know maybe because we've done time travel with the With with triangle. Right i mean there's a little bit with dreamland stuff took time loop right so it feels a little different. Because i'm i'm well. I'm still been done. Well that's the thing. As well as maybe i'm i'm still thinking okay. If there's something supernatural going on this still seems to be like this just seemed like a random time loop which is still supernatural though on supernatural not supernatural fine super time loops or not supernatural natural. Every day of your life exactly. Nah i guess more. So when i think about even stuff like the you know all be ghosts and vampires. We'll that's what. I guess i was thinking came in here. Doing apparently this is written also in quite a rush over over christmas break. Hiatus so And vince kellyanne is quoted saying like no we stole this from the twilight zone like this is a rip off of a twilight zone episode called shadow. Play interesting because the thing that i thought of immediately was what's that teen g episode cause-and-effect ripping off the next generation. That was filming simultaneous own. Next generation was good years. Before that i don't think it was like so monumental and groundbreaking that they said we need to make an exile about that one episode this episode of star trek the next generation but i do think people probably thought it was a of groundhog day though over that definitely for sure and even afterwards we've gotten you know tomorrow lived. I repeat at sad show like the opening scene of older waking up in bed that the alarm not going off and him looking at the clock and repeat of the morning routine is very groundhog day. But but i'm vince gilligan. Says it was based off of shadow. Play which is a twilight zone episode. What happens in that is it. Just the same for the person has to die in order for it to move forward ironic fate that the twilight zone usually has Yes but i've never seen this episode. Well let's get into this episode. Not the one that you haven't seen many times. And i have not monday. We have a bank robbery. We do we have a straight up bank robbery. You think bank robberies are dead I guess the bank robbery of today would be like what cryptocurrency killing just trying to think of. I mean i. I guess you and i are privileged in that..

Toss the egg with your heart, and you, too, will lose a bucket of weight. I was not referring to the fact that you have lost some weight. When I said you look cool. I'm referring to the cool sunglasses that they will see you sporting in those photos. Yes. Well, okay, highlight, but out there, you know, it's Southern California. What can I tell you? That's our weather. You wear sunglasses, and it's a lovely way to go before we start. I know we have what's happening with the Department of Justice. And Boy, is that fascinating stuff? Thank you to Avenue got public insurance adjuster. A lot of people don't even know what, uh, a public insurance. A gesture does go to Abner God, that's a V N E. R g 80, and you'll see if your house floods that's who you go to, because you don't want to deal with the insurance companies. I've been doing that for 30 years. It's a god awful mess. Okay, let's move on. Well, as you know, the Department of Justice now has filed this lawsuit against Texas over their abortion law as an attorney. And a fan of abortion rights. What do you make of this? This is one of the weirdest cases I have ever seen. Number one. It goes from ridiculous. I mean, truly ridiculous. Uh, with Governor gray at it when he did. We talked about this yesterday. The East. The most ridiculous statement. How do you take care of Law. What you deal with the woman who, for example, they suffered rape or incest still have to carry the term and his answer was well, rape stops Today. It stops right here, and we don't have to worry about women who have been raped because there is no more rape. Okay? I mean, that's just ridiculous. Department of Justice a little bit different. The Department of Justice, and I truly don't understand what our attorney general was saying. And that is he is filing a lawsuit against the new care The New Texas law. And He says. The basis of that is that the law is unconstitutional. Well, guess who determines constitutionality or not? It's the Supreme Court. So he is going to be arguing ostensibly, and I think this is the case department. Justice is going to go for the courts. The attorney general of Texas is going to go before the courts. And asking, and they're going to ask. Well, we'll tell you what's constitutional or not. We don't care what you said in 1973, and by the way once you said it, you can't change your mind. I mean, that's kind of stupid. It really is. Constitutionality is the Supreme Court. There were days stops there starts there, and it moves on from there, and they absolutely can overrule. Prior rulings of Supreme Court at the Supreme Court, right and they haven't It's not that they do it all the time, but they do it from time to time and they could do it here. Yeah, well, I mean, look at I think 18 96, but not, uh, if I'm not wrong about the date, there was a case Plessy versus Ferguson where the Supreme Court upheld the right to separate the racist. This was on a train and it uh, Mr Plessy, who was African American, was thrown off the train or moved into the black section. He sued. And the Supreme Court said that's fine and then the separate with Eagle statues that that's fine. And then they totally reversal in Brown versus education. It's the Supreme Court that does it. And I don't know where Merrick Garland is going with this, arguing that the court itself and its decisions are unconstitutional. Well, I think he's trying to find a way around the fact that they, Texas wrote the law. So that it would be very hard to challenge it by saying we have this law and this restriction but nobody connected with the government will ever enforce it. And Ha ha! Then see, you can't really sue because normally When you pass an unconstitutional law, you sue the government from enforcing it, But you can't sue the government here because they're not going to enforce it. And so what's that? I mean, is this going to is that is that clever trick going to work in the long run? You know, even if it wasn't a clever trick if it was straight out attack on Roe v. Wade, this court is going to do everything to, um Eliminate abortion. Abortion is basically gone because here's what's happening before you had various laws, And the argument was always these laws that were passed and you're right. These laws that were passed or effectively to eliminate abortion, uh by nips a little bits and pieces and I don't know what's going on with my phone and I effectively what the court said. You know, this is a duck. It walks like a duck. It talks like a duck. You can't go around and say it really isn't a duck when it is go ahead and put sunglasses on a duct. What do you have, or you have a duck or sunglasses? It's still a duck, and the problem becomes The court and this is the one that is tells us that this court is going to allow, um, abortion rights to fail at the pro choice movement is going to win because usually the courts whenever the arguments made there's a facto Enforcement of anti abortion right And when that happens, the court normally says, and it goes lower Court and Appeals court and the Supreme Court. You know, you may be right. But we'll put everything on hold pending a full hearing. They didn't do this. They said. You go right ahead and restrict abortion. And then we'll talk about the case where we're going to decide whether abortion is directly attacked or not, And the way the way it was written. You're absolutely right now. I'm surprised lawsuits have already been filed. Uh, but, yeah, I don't haven't read the entire. Uh, I am ready decision and we don't know or least I don't know whether, uh, these laws have been passed or not the grandfather clause and it's It's totally Nick. What state of Texas did and it's clever..

Wendy Hallett MBE, Managing Director of Hallett, Talks Working From Home

"Government is urging people to return to the office. What impact is that going to have particularly on women. Many of whom have been working from home for over a year. We've had such a huge reaction from our listeners that we wanted to hear more. Boris johnson's called for a gradual return over the summer. The chancellor and some business leaders are calling for people to taper off homeworking for the sake of their prospects the economy and their wellbeing but research for the bbc art today shows that in an increasing number of jobs are being advertised with the option of working from home where we're gonna hear directly from listeners with a range of us and experiences all on all of this but i i'm joined by wendy hallett at wendy was a senior manager retail group arcadia and she oversaw top shop on street in london are on twenty years ago they. She founded her own retail company to create a flexible working environment for herself. When her children were young and nice she advocates this for her entire staff. Wendy welcome went very invited me on wendy earlier this week. We heard this suggestion. That civil servants should get their pay docked if they continue to work from home and the times newspaper has the story today. That tech companies. Google is planning something similar. I wonder if you think a financial penalty is the way to get employees back to the workplace and indeed if they need to be going back to the workplace at all. I definitely don't think that Starting off with looking at financial penalties to get back in the office is the right way to go. I think the fact that that has been so much more working from home so much. More flexibility for men and for women. It's not just a female Issue gives us a huge opportunity to look at how we do work so i think to come coming on a negative which he shall we pay is totally wrong and i do think that we should be looking at flexibility. I wouldn't advocate everybody working from home every single day but i think there should be now a flexible approach. This is a huge opportunity to narrow. I think the pay gap of anti changes the way we look at working going forward.

"Beyond our world there is love beyond our world there is war beyond our world. There is life beyond our world. There is foot leo. Fourteen fifty sixty eight by about year equal to august fifth ten sixty eight. Ad earth year mountain. Ogres were the most dangerous of all the beasts abella bella rising in a towering ten feet tall with thickly built bodies hard enough to snap eros. Ogres were unstoppable. Hulking juggernauts of nature because of their size and ability to perform simple tasks ogres had been used since the civilization age by various developing agent empires as beasts of burden but it wasn't until sabella medieval age of monsters that they were utilized during sieges. The kingdom of arcadia situated approximately were italy and degrees would be on a map of earth was first to deploy domesticated ogres in siege warfare and profited immensely from such a risky endeavor. There were four classes of siege ogre during the age of monsters. The attack ogre. The siege tower ogre the catapult ogre and the drummer ogre. Let's take closer look at these starting with the attack ogre attack ogres were probably the most formidable warriors to come out of arcadia. They were trained to use big spiked hammers and howard's in addition to the clubs. That were their traditional weapons. They were not especially agile they did have exceptional each which is something that their opponent overlooked at their own peril. This threat was magnified through the use of staff weapons to stab their opponents while remaining safely out of reach they swung these from the side using the acts played like a sky or brought them down like an axe. Their weapons were so low that it was only by distraction that a soldier could hope to get inside the ogre's reach and strike it attack. Ogres were armored. With heavy plate armor and their arms were protected by iron praises. Their helmets had cheek plates. That extended outward to offer an additional layer of defense. Not that they needed though their training really only consisted of getting them through the gates and killing as many soldiers as they could. They were living battering rams capable of smashing an entire gate down and ripping doors off their hinges and one pool moving onto this each tower ogre. Not only where the seventy five foot tall siege towers made of timber but they were also filled with army forces so they needed up to four ogres to transport them from point eight to be these ogres carried. No weapons while pushing the towers but there were weapons stored inside. They wore heavy pleaded armor strapped to their torsos and forearms and wore leather camps to which they were riveted leather flaps and iron plates. That jetted out over the eyes and cheeks protection against arrows fired from above the primary objective. Ogres were viewed. As far too expendable to waste the precious rare magic blocking iron tariffs on if they were hit by spell the usually went down quickly that brings us to the catapult ogre. The enormous tension under which the catapults operated meant that it took squats of normal science folk to do the work of a few mountain ogres. A pair of ogres could pull down the great arm of the catapult while a third lowered the heavy boulder onto the basket all in the space of a minute or two these ogres were fitted with wide pruned iron helmets that had a spike on top of visor and leather flaps that protected the ogre's is from flying debris faster catapult loading and firing times. Meant that arcadia could launch an unyielding attack on fortresses. They were invading. This tactic alone helped them. Conquer numerous forts in the east and challenge the emerging avalon empire for domination infidels europe. Lastly the dermer ogre kept a beat. For the vast army of arcadia t marched to these ogres carried it to large kettle. Drums hung from their shoulders which they beat with heavy wooden mallets the boom from these horse hind coverage drums reverberated around the battlefield. It steady beat served to inspire armies as much as a distressed their enemies they were not armored merely fitted with caps of layers of overhanging. Hide shoulder straps a for and hide paired with a leather loincloth. There arcadian conquest was leader haunted by the avalon empire. Arcadia could only profit from their newfound edge in siege warfare for so long once other kingdoms. So what they were capable of with ogres. The method was perfected by enemy. In Virginia, Military Veterans Take on Their Next Mission: Farming

"Almost half of America's farmers are planning to retire in the next five years, and it's not clear who will replace them. But a group in Alexandria may have a solution. They're working to introduce veterans to farming. As CBS national correspondent Chip Reid tells US vets and farmers have a lot in common. Jenny has camp spent 15 years as a United States Marine. Now she's a farmer with a focus on flowers. These are what I want. She learned the science and the art of farming here at Arcadia Farm in Alexandria, Virginia, on land once owned by George Washington. It's exhausting. It's hot. It's buggy, and it's the most satisfying and the happiest I've ever been. She began three years ago in Arcadia's part time veteran Farmer Reserve program that gives veterans and opportunity to decide if farming is for them. For her. It was a perfect fit. I think it's an incredible program for veterans transitioning from years of service into the next career, she now farms here full time and dreams of one day having a small farm of her own. Pamela Hess is executive director of Arcadia Farm and helped create the veteran farmer program. The goal is to give veterans an opportunity to earn a living in a new but surprisingly similar. Walk of life. They can work in all temperatures. They can carry very heavy loads. They're great at long term planning. They are not freaked out by crisis. Farmers and military folks have a very similar mindset when it comes to their work. Farming is a mission oriented business in the same way that military mission is you can't stop at five o'clock you stop when the mission is

"Pro bono clinics can fill a desperate need doctrine pascarella president of the association of american colleges and universities and today on the academic minute kathleen forty-eight assistant professor of practice at arcadia university explores how students can also benefit from the experience of helping out those in need. We know that there are disparities in health and then healthcare disparities often. We find that. There is an intersection between those meaning. The decreased access to healthcare leads to further chronic disease and disability. Millions of americans are uninsured or underinsured and those communities are burdened with preventable diseases and injuries because of the limited opportunities to achieve optimal health. This is where pro bono clinics step in by offering free services to members of the community who might be uninsured or underinsured. This provides a way in which people can have one less barrier to addressing a medical concern physical therapy clinics provide the opportunity to address underlying movement systems that are leading or can lead to further chronic disease or disability. There are only one hundred and eight university bass pro bono clinics nationwide these clinics address healthcare disparities in their regions while providing students with hands on learning opportunities that are overseen by expert faculty members these pro bono clinics do not require a doctor's referral and can be accessed by anyone. While physical therapist students participate in clinical rotations. The opportunity to work in a pro bono clinic enables them to engage with a variety of patients and develop strategies to meet each of their unique needs in a pro bono clinic. Patients can come in for anything. Preventative care rehabilitation or even maintenance exercises some come in with other needs that can also be addressed for patients. This will continue to promote health and improve on factors that lead to further disability and chronic diseases for students. They learn to adapt to each patient and meet them where they are to provide the best.

Philip Green's retail empire Arcadia calls in administrators

"The coronavirus pandemic has dealt a potentially fatal blow to british retail giant arcadia. And its owner sir. Philip green within the next few hours the group which owns internationally recognized brand. Top shop is expected to file for administration much bankruptcy protection. The process will shield the business from creditors as it tries to get finances in order while parts or all of the company is sold off. Well that means some of the group's stores could close. The bbc's simon jack says many of the brands under arcadia umbrella are household names here in the uk and they're likely to survive in some form. The june the crown is top shop other brands which people won't be familiar with the us like burton wallis evans. Dorothy perkins some of these brands or seem to be very old school and new internet only brands of come. Along targeting millennials. Much more multan have got a greater connection with the shoppers. They're servicing one affiliate greens big problems as he had this inherent loathing technology. And i'm afraid retail is a technology game these days and that's why he didn't keep pace with it now. The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc across the retail sector. This year arcadia has collapsed could potentially even worse than that for some retailers. Big department store chains here. That have shops within a shop. That's right so there's another big transaction going on which is a fading and ailing department store called a sportswear company called jetty. Sports is trying to buy that now. Deb enemies inside it as you say has lots of concessions of the brands that philip green and say if this goes bust that other merger is in danger because the income they would get from those concessions is suddenly going to disappear so there is a domino effect. Here if you add it all together. We're looking at thirteen thousand jobs in the katie groups. Greens empire and twelve thousand in the devon's group. So twenty five thousand. I actually spoke to some green over the weekend. I said how much of this is to do with covid. He said last night. And what i'm going to be open identity stock to buy but the cards were dealt on this many years ago because he did not adapt to the changing face of internet retail. And this is also bad for the suppliers who supply these stores. Like top shop yet. They could take a big hit clearly. They're suffering because many of the shops they sell to have been closed over different periods of lockdown. Funny enough the supplies. We spoken to did not feel. They weren't getting paid by philip. Green empire arcadia. A lot of them will have bought insurance. In case the person they sell to goes bust. They won't be able to get that insurance by selling. Philip green's empire anymore so yes you could be looking at big hit in the supply chain. Tv salmon jack. Thanks for breaking this down my pleasure

Bobcat Fire in continues to spread at 3% containment in Los Angeles area, evacuation orders issued

"Fire crews continue to battle the bobcat fire in the Angeles National Forest. It looks like they'll be in for a long night. The Southern fire remains at 3% containment and it's flared up in multiple areas, Officials say strong winds are pushing the more than 50,000 acre fire in several directions. Crews have been working hard to protect landmarks and numerous saying Gabriel Foothill communities. They were able to successfully pushback flames from the historic Mount Wilson Observatory last night. But the fight is far from over. Many residents are under evacuation orders and part of the Antelope Valley. Thousands more remain under evacuation warnings in the San Gabriel Valley. Mandatory orders were lifted in some parts of the Sierra Madre and Arcadia residents are still on high alert. My car's been packed facing outward, not in the garage that was Sierra Madre resident and Palmer speaking to Kate. She says. She's been driving around with our most prized possessions in case the blaze starts running downhill. Public health officials have extended an air quality advisory for much of Ella, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties due to the fire driven smoke due to the smoky skies from the fire. It's expected to last at least through tomorrow.

Ancient Bugs and the Key to Storing Wind and Solar

"How does this system work yet great question well to start we walked through what looks like a pretty regular office building down some stairs back through some hallways and they took us to this control room so right now we're in the control room that's a nice quiet space we're heading is we're gonNA head out and look at the electrolysers system why do you have to do to set it up we operate the electrolysers system by control doing the power to it so making sure it has power sufficient water flow and then also making sure it is sufficient quality to go into fuel cell cars and then we walked out of the control room into this kind of big cavernous almost like a garage and they're sitting in a class box was step one which is the electrolysers and the size of a stove and has these different pipes coming out of it and next to it this shaking jiggling container of water so we're standing in front of the electrolysers and you can see translucence white tank that is filled with water and that's what we start with we start with the ionized water there is a pump whirling in the background moving through the heart of the system the electrolysers stack the other thing you'll notice is all of the wires going in here at Enron we have a strategic initiative called electrons to molecules the cables you're looking at there's forty eight of them these cables are actually mirrored the other side forty eight cables bringing electricity in very high current three thousand ams thirty five hundred amps of DC power coming in and that half inch stainless steel line so in your mind picture all forty eight wires pluses for eight minuses and then a half inch stainless st line carrying the hydrogen out that is the idea behind electrons to molecules sort of increasing the energy density of a wind and solar farm can adding that to a molecule right now we're doing hydrogen and this is step one of the process then we followed that which is being pumped through another pipeline outside into like a two or three story elevator shaft it's quite small actually and a lot of vowels and instrumentation and wiring and data and the great thing about it is it's actually even though it looks complicated is actually very simple an inside what is the bio reactor that's kind of what the structure is our is water and corrupts these little Arcadia and the cool thing about Arcadia it ferments hydrogen and Co two in the same way that you would almost speed like fermenting a food product like beer and then it produces this methane at does that naturally and so with a little bit of testing and ration- This company called Electro Caja patented and trademarked the Arcadia and has put it on loaner leased to enroll to experiment with and learn about how it can be used for bio gas what does it take to make a bug happy Oh it's actually very simple you just give them co two and hydrogen and some a source of sulfur a source of nitrogen and and are off they go they're very rugged they've been around for a billion years so they know what they're doing we're just trying to do the simple things to make them happen the What exactly are they trying to do here they got it bill are they looking for anything in particular the technology is only as good as it can be scaled or lead to the next thing and so I think they're really trying to understand it's applications and whether it's something that can be used on on a wider scale it is a research intended by reactor a steppingstone to large scale deployment with company he's like socal gas and other utilities that are feeling pressure for consumers or pressure from investors to start decarbonising the literal gas grid much like we've decarbonised slowly using wind and solar for example decarbonising Trinity Grid but yeah they they wanted l. okay if we can do it at this scale and we can do it really well what would it take to do it at a higher scale so it can have other applications let me see if I got this straight the reason why Ron and Kevin and so many others are working on this is because we're facing two pretty big challenges one we've got a lot of wind and solar hitting grids in many cases during windy or sunny periods there's a ton of extra energy being generated which is usually wasted and company he's like socal gas meanwhile are saying how can we clean up the natural gas were sending to homes and businesses so you've got two things happening at once so he here at Enron they're trying to solve that problem and they're taking that excess renewable electricity they're using to make hydrogen then finding Indus- sources of co two and feeding it all two billion year-old microbes then turned it into methane and then Voila Ron's company has renewable gas that can be fed into an existing pipeline yes and they seem confident this is going to happen I mean it is happening and beard ask Ron how he kind of looks up in the sky with dreamy eyes and he'd say absolutely and then you ask Kevin The science guy and he he agrees the idea here is to start with gases which can dissolve into water quickly and that's straightforward you're not breaking down components and then building them back up which some technologies do this is starts with houses so it is a fast reaction the organisms are self replicating and their naturally occurring so if things were to spill for example if we were to have a problem we've essentially spilled some seawater on the ground and we would make sure it's safe and that's what's Nice about this simplicity its vessel it's operating it'll pressures behind you there are hydrogen storage tanks pressurized to thirteen thousand PSI were operating at two hundred fifty it's easier to operate at lower pressures and it's manageable even you know from the side of the dreamer and the side of the scientists they they both believe in this and they have high hopes for for seeing scaled potentially across the country one day

I mean you know it's it makes it easier to get up in the morning. I can tell you that when you you know just having good horses to look at watch them work watching breeze. He's checking the next day. F You know post race stuff like that so you know it's good horses which is get up every day and do this force. The you know have horses than move forward young horses Oaks Derby British Cup type horses what you're looking for so it definitely makes getting up a little easier. I promise you that yeah and you've been around so many good ones but certainly British. Idiom is looking being the part at this point in her career and let's remind people. This was only her second career start. She's now a perfect two for two after breaking her maiden at Saratoga back in the middle of August. It look back on that race from yesterday she she won very impressively very easily. Share your thoughts on the performance. I I mean it it. was you know to think he was going to go over and perform like that no way. I mean you know she. She just she just blew just spectacular performance and you know watching watching the race I mean broke with higher did a great job of keeping up in the race not necessarily on the League exactly what you like to see setting off a couple of horses a relatively you you know reasonable pace the backside. I think he was laying fourth and I looked at my sister and I said she's in a perfect spot. I mean she's got no excuse from here and then when she brings it up to the leaders eaters to three eighths. Kinda started looking at some of the horses behind us like I think she's got these in front of her when she's come up to fairly I think you can go buy these and then obviously I was kinda looking for perfect perfect alibi and szucs Philly and I saw so perfect alibi was kind of interesting you know if she responds when heavier ask this things over and she did and you know the only thing I told you can't tell the guy I don't give them any instructions at all jocks but the only thing I told him I said it's a short wire so don't don't you know short stretch. Yeah I wire so just when you turn for home ever position and he did just that she responded well. It was very very impressive race. Did you know this philly could be this good in this caliber when you first laid eyes on her no really well not when I first laid eyes on that yeah you have to go through several steps. You know obviously months and months of preparation to really get a line on we had this. Philly keeneland England then we moved into this summer and she was really stepping for stepping up and you know acting like she was a good horse we breeze brought her to Churchill with the intent of running her at Saratoga and Yep. We just left our church. I I can't remember exactly how it was about just her last work before she ran at Saratoga. was from the gate at Churchill she'll and thought you know this phillies going to be awfully tough at Saratoga auction race. We'd like to a lot so and you know come to find find out. It was like that morning. There was a buzz I was actually at Churchill today. She broke her maiden Air Togo but there was a little buzz kept hearing like you know they're stranded like horses turning like Susan. I like four or five of them in there and you know she. I think lots of times like you know I thought she would have been down a little more and she wasn't. I just think it was a you know a lot of people like horses in the race and the silly it was second obviously came back and broke her maiden. Belmont which was a positive You know just a couple of weeks ago so I uh I think it was even though it was restricted maiden race it was decent strong maiden races well so she received a big figure out of it to that. That was the one thing that Japan Academy Rag Number. You know a couple of days later and I thought you know she moves forward off that you know she's a she's a serious horse. She obviously did it. Just took us a while to get her back to the races we point for the Pocahontas and she the week before she breezed in the breeze was just okay and We've put a blood on her blood worker blitz count. Where's off a little bit so we just decided to skip the Pocahontas in point for talking with trainer Brag Cox Looking back on yesterday's big win in the grade. One DARLIE also vitek was British idiom. She is now punched her ticket to the Breeder's cup juvenile fillies which will be held at Santa Anita in Arcadia California about well one month from today. Hey we'll be breeders cup Saturday Brad. What do you do now over the next four weeks to make sure that she stays in peak form and she's ready to fire her best shot in the Breeders Cup. Well just you know as of right. Now you know I believe we have a plane scheduled to go out on Tuesday before so that's the twenty ninth we'll just go out then with whatever we have that's earn whatever earn their way to the Breeders Cup and you know just who works. I think you know nothing fancy. I mean you know she got a lot out of yesterday's yesterday's race being the second career start and you know just hoping she comes out of in good shape so far so good she scoped great. Last night looked good last night. Put her to bed and she looked at this morning. So you know Oh everything's positive with her will to this point and you know like I said we'll bring her back to Churchill worker twice and then off to California to before as long as everything goes well when you get an opportunity unity to maybe add a couple more grade wants to your resume later today you have Juliette Fox Trot going in the grade one first lady here at Keeneland and then you'll send out in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park. You'll send out arc low in there so let's start with Juliet Fox Trot. Tell me a little bit about her really Nice Philly. I mean it took a really tough being California. Last time we got was beaten by. I think the two thousand eighteen races and the silica so I mean I think right if the wires the only time she was in front on of us we got back in front of her past the wiring dot great really nice really think the world ever very very classy filly to deal with in just just real real nice philly that train them and just very straightforward. Does everything alleged WanNa see a horse do of the mornings and obviously the afternoons as well since she's been here in North America America and just amazing philly not real big. I mean she she's. She's a beautiful really beautiful. I- owner beautiful head up but it's not a big big philly typical. I think you know think cut back to a mile. I think is a I think she can do anything between a mile. Maybe even a mile and a quarter anything in there but I always like a horse that you know in a mile in eighth last time cutting back to the mile today. I think a positive that she drew well in the race. looks like on paper. There's speed I'm hoping she can kind of break settle kind of shut off a little bit going into the first turning up the backside and she does that she'll be. She'll be very very competitive today. I think a lot of this feeling. I think she she some you know. Hopefully can you know get some great one placing. Maybe hopefully a great one win and I think you know. I think the plan right now to raise their next year and I really think she's got had a big feature. You know it's interesting you talk about the mile and an eighth cutting back to a mile later on this afternoon and how much you like that move. I've heard other people talk about horses making that can't move to why can that be so successful. I guess it's just a fitness thing I mean I know. We've had the feeling training all year but it's a lot angles and racing that you know you. Can you know I. I sometimes like you know You don't even if a horse runs well on the dirt going to turf. It's almost like you trick them a little bit. You know it's it's and you know I. It just felt like you can have a little more confidence with your shortening horse up as opposed to stretching now now 'cause you know the further you go. I guess the unknown but you know she performed well at a model at Qinglin this spring so we know she can do it. She didn't really shut off and rate that well that day wish you would have you know relax a little more but it was a first start off a long layoff for a long time. I asked her to run a little bit earlier and she was just kind of on the go like I said from off burning fresh off the layoff but she she's moved forward and she responds to what the routers warrant They had three different jobs under this year. You know they've all got along with her. Well so I think for on obviously knows Schroeder twice before been able to get her. They're both times so hopefully like I said if she can get take a trip and relax a little bit early. She'll be tough yeah. You've had her for four starts now. In North America her first one as you alluded to is keen last April after she campaign in in her native Great Britain when you get a horse like that Brad that comes in from overseas.

Philip Green fashion empire crumbles

"The high street fashion. Empire of Philip green is on the rocks. The UK retail I king has secured creditor support for three overhaul that's involve rent reductions store, closures, and to having of the company's pension deficit reduction payments, but will this be enough to save the business? Mafia Vinson discusses this question with Jonathan Ford and Jonathan Ely. Tell us a bit about Philip green and his fashion empire. How many stores all there in which are the best known brands? So the empire was put together from two big acquisitions that have Sears in one thousand nine hundred nine and nuts of Arcadia in two thousand and two Arcadia is, of course, the one that gives its name still to surf Phillips fashion empire four fifths of the revenues a made in the UK and Ireland from about five hundred sixty stores and they're all so concessions in department stores like Dem's and in some branches of Tesco now by far the best known of the Browns is top shop which counts for more than half of the sales, but there are also a series of smaller brands Burton, Wallis Dorothy Perkins, miss Selfridge Evans, being the main ones if my memory of back issues of vogue serves me talk shop was until. Recently regarded as something of a success, celebrities plumber into be associated with it gained to catwalk shows, and green was the person who is credited with getting it. But high profile on that level of success knighted for it. How is this managed to go wrong? So there are many causes a knife fits early into two buckets, if you like one is the sort of external factors over which Philip had relatively little control. And the other is the things that he did have influence and control over now outside his control was quite, simply the competition, much better. So back in two thousand and five when he was knighted, boo. A fashion retailer sells online and we'll turn over over a billion pounds this year did not even exist. And there's a whole series of those types of businesses have emerged who misguided, they sauce, people like that prime has really up to his game, h and. Am has opened hundreds of stores in the UK Zara has expanded quite aggressively in the UK. And also consumes have become much more kind to dispose to ordering clothing online something that seems a long time ago now but if you go back to the early noughties people were saying, oh, people will never order clothing, on my because they'll want to try it on. Well, they do try on. They try on at home and send back the bits they don't want, and then the things that he has done wrong. I think he basically took a lot of money out of Arcadia in the early noughties then famously paid his wife for one point two billion pound dividend didn't really invest enough act into the businesses that week online websites in their whole logistics, regarded as behind competitors and along with many other retailers from the sort of pre incidents era, they're finding now that they've simply got too many shops. So now so Philip finds himself as you say, with shops needing to close some of them leading to. Have the rent reduced on the others. Under the so-called company, voluntary arrangement. Can you just explain exactly what a VA is? And why he needed Sarah CVA is a peculiarly British form of insolvency that basically gives the company a window of opportunity to reach an agreement with its creditors to reduce its payments, and his overheads, and therefore is obligated, and actually any credits can be compromised under a CVA. But when it comes to retailers, it's almost invariably the landlords. That's are they face cuts to rents of between twenty five and fifty percents on about one hundred ninety four out of the five hundred also stores. They are the very significant aspects of this sceviour is that there is an agreement with a pension regulator Arkadiusz pension fund is about five hundred million pounds in deficit and the company had been making annual payments. To try and close that gap miss reached an agreement with the regulators, where it will reduce the payments, and so Philip, and his family will make good the difference, and that agreement with the pension regulates. The has very important political and legal ramifications should anything wrong with Arcadia further down the line, they still have to close certain outlets which talks about top shop, earlier, which other stores are going to be affected, or the CVA all of them all the chain. So twenty three stores will shots within the next year and that seems like quite low number out of five hundred sixty six but the reality, according to people in the commercial property world is the final number will be many more than not possibly into three figures that's because lots of stores are coming off lease anyway, and because over the three appeared of the CVA, there are lots of opportunities sort of written into the terms for either the landlords author Arcadia to end Elise early enclose a store. And that has raised questions really over the future of some of the other brands, we know already, the Evans miss Selfridge are going to move to a more wholesale type business model. So most of their stores will close one wonders how long things like Dorothy Perkins Wallis and Burson might lust because there's one marketing expert said to me last week if these stores didn't exist, would you go out of your way to invent them to have turn this round, if east Browns are not long for this world, even if he's able to have a little bit more success with top shop is there really a turnaround strategy Novus, while it's fair to say that many people think there isn't that what there is is too, vague into threadbare. So we know that he's basically plan to invest hundred thirty five million pounds over three years, roughly split half and half into improving the stores and improving the website and the online. Logistics the problem with that smaller a to really hundred thirty five million over three years

Charlie, KFI and Attorney discussed on Bill Handel

"Why don't you Six Coming up on Sunday morning with Elizabeth Espinosa I've got star is about LA behaving. Badly that is if you survive this heat wave Sunday morning with Elizabeth Spinoza tomorrow morning at five on KFI AM six, forty, four stimulating talk AM six forty more stimulating, talk Bill Handel This is on the law. Marginal legal advice Hey, Charlie. Welcome to handle on the law yes sir This is my question I lived in I live in the city of San Diego County, of Los Angeles in the northeast, section of the, city which is, Valerie by Arcadia purity other larger cities what has happened the sidewalks in my neighborhood are getting so degraded that. They're causing a hazard when people, try and walk away I discovered this when I retired I also developed the doctor told me to walk. More wife and I got out. Only. To find it the sidewalks. Are just so bad okay content I contacted the city the city has. Told me that because these are not really, a sidewalk they are an asphalt sidewalk if. You, would, they are not responsible for keeping. Them, up Sidewalks or between. Two schools oh wait a minute hold on it they're not. A sidewalk there asphalt but do they. Look like a sidewalk absolutely the act like a sidewalk first of all I've never heard I've never heard, of asphalt sidewalks I've never seen, one of those, it's always concrete, so you're telling me if you have a normal sidewalk that you see you've. Got the front yard then the. Sidewalk and then a piece of, grass and then the street right yeah okay kind of like a main thoroughfare okay but it's still the. Main thoroughfare but it's still that. Way. It's it's basically acts like. A sidewalk the ground you know the the front yard sidewalk the the. Green and then the street so the only, difference is it's asphalt and it's not concrete Interesting and. That is does, that belong to. The city who owns that, I. Would guess it would be the. City unless they. Say it's all private property that it's is my thoughts I believe it, belongs to the city okay, and I got I contacted them and and one of the other questions, I? Had. For. This because they have no accessible. Wheelchair. Ramps on on the corners yet, they come back to deny. That I have an Email that they, are not, responsible because, they are not sanctioned, sidewalk, is basically what they're giving me oh. Interesting I don't even know what a sanction sidewalk is by Yeah That it's the fact that he's a poured concrete rather than. This I don't, know if concrete if a sidewalk is defined as having b. Comprised of concrete, and no other material I think you have, to look at I the. I don't even know why. The ordinance ordinance say sidewalks are comprised of that's a really interesting point I, so I don't even know if there's been a lawsuit filed research it but I'd be surprised if. There was a lawsuit filed saying that, this is a sidewalk and asphalt sidewalk is the same as concrete sidewalks but for the fact that it's concrete and it'd be very well be an, ordinance or even a statute that deals with it and define. Sidewalks concrete then I don't even know where the. Hell, you vote this I've never heard of this before by the way Charlie this is a. Weird one, now and that surprises city's trying to. Get out of it of, course they tried to get out of everything Sure More. Thing let me add to this is the fact that I did look up on the Americans with Disabilities, Act and there's a section to that is clearly states in there that the the city's obligation is to maintain a sidewalk that is. There I guess there have looked it. Up they have lifted up also and their their entire. Premise is that because it's ask, fault it's it's not a. Sidewalk And maybe not so much the asphalt it's just the fact, that thirty nine it's a sidewalk well okay and I don't know how the hell they deny it's a sidewalk I really don't not. Only that like I said we're borderline. Stand Gabriel and triple city both we'll start denying borderline it's either on it's either in, one city or the other Creek, crosses over it's it's about a mile stretch okay, so goes across the line right correct. Okay well I would think every city is responsible for everything on their side. Of, the. Line so so what do you want to do what's your question what do you want to do as a result of this well I I'm retired now I have nothing but time on my hands who I, approach next I'll take as far as I can I would go to, the city council and they have open hearings open meetings odd definitely I. Would talk to the city attorney and let. The city attorney know that it looks like the cities in violation of the ADA American with Disabilities. Act and you see if there are any organizations out. There, and, I'm sure there are that deal with ADA issues. And the government. And there are even their even. Firms law firms, that deal with it now there's two. Different. Kinds of law firms. They're the kind of law firms that are bunch of predators Sleazeball, law firms that go against small businesses where the, ramp is the wrong the elevation is. The wrong degree is supposed to be at twelve degrees and it turns out. It's, a. Thirteen degrees in their forcing relation and they actually extort the business owners there's those and then there are firms that are on the other side who actually deal seriously with with ADA violations and this looks like, it's one of those so I just do some research and put in, some ADA law firms as search words and see where you go on. That and talk to the city attorney's office. And talk to the council that's where I would okay okay Would it be advisable to take pictures and God yes oh yeah oh yeah I take. All the pictures you. Can. Okay All right all right? Charlie take care interesting interesting? Proposition isn't it and their denial that it's a? Sidewalk. How do. You, point. To a sidewalk say that's not a. Sidewalk This is handle on the law Julie? Slater in the KFI newsroom The fire near Idyllwild has more than twelve thousand acres.
