"Is at his best. Join John and Michelle and Jack on traffic. News. Traffic and weather on the 8s for your weekend lets you what's happening. Here's Joe Conway in the traffic center. All right, Ralph, we're going to start off again in Virginia on the 95 trip southbound. You'll slow across the Aquaman at a newington toward woodbridge that's mostly standard volume delays to that bottleneck, then you're jammed up southbound leaving Quantico triangle, in fact, not so much Quantico at this point, but all the way up to triangle exit one 50 to the vehicle fires sound bound after Quantico and camera, you're only squeezing by staying to the left. That fire does appear to be officially out. We're not seeing any smoke steam or anything like that, but the cleanup is going to be ongoing. If you're northbound, you're not in a delay at that point. Your easy pass things are pointed north down on 95 and three 95. Mainly 95 northbound slows out of dumfries, and stretches toward woodbridge, but there are plenty of breaks along the way, three 95 north, so it's slows from The Pentagon toward the inbound 14th. Adult slows through Alexandria and the threw in the locals from telegraph road into glaze out of Tyson's toward the American legion bridge again should be all volume. 66 eastbound slowing near glee road towards spout run against should be a volume delay, nothing reported in the roadway there for you. Into the district, The White House freeway remains closed underneath the key bridge. Dealing with apparently a debris spill of some sort there inbound canal can not access The White House freeway, app bound K street can only go underneath the wider freeway and inbound or eastbound 66, you have forced to go onto Pennsylvania avenue for the duration of this ongoing cleanup. Elsewhere in the district standard volume delays on the highways in Maryland, you've got volume delays on the capitol beltway and stretches through prince George and Montgomery counties. Again, nothing organized for you. Bottom watch the Parkway likewise is true northbound southbound between 32 and the beltway brought to you by Staples and new world of possible with innovative tools for small businesses and remote workers and learners, explore more at your local Staples or at Staples connect dot com. "To include less pavement, Christy king WTO P news. It's 1118. Traffic and weather on the 8s Joe Fox is in the WTO traffic center, sandy of Virginia 95 in both directions starting to take its lumps now as folks head out on this gorgeous morning, so southbound, you're gonna be slow across the Aquaman again at the express lanes where the express lanes headed southbound join you at a quiet harbor and that continues on and off all the way through route three and Fredericksburg. Northbound now we're starting to see delays as you head past a quiet harbor and then again from triangle to dumfries may have a crash there we're looking into that and then again from Dale boulevard on up towards the river and yet again from lorton and newington, the beltway is looking good, no issues yet at the Wilson or American legion bridges. On the bellway in Maryland, it's going to be slow as you pass old Georgetown road had an earlier tractor trailer broken down in the last hours long since cleared. You're going to be moving past Wisconsin once you get there. BW Parkway northbound is going to be slow from just inside the beltway on up towards powder mill road, southbound, you're slow from 32 to one 98 briefly inside the beltway. Once you continue on to D.C. two 95 in both directions, you're going to be slow approaching Pennsylvania avenue with the overpass over the railroad tracks. We are seeing some volume delays, not really sure why I don't think we have a crash looks like just volume as you pass FedEx field on the outer loop headed from central avenue towards route 50 and speaking over 50. It's going to be slow a couple miles and both directions approaching the bay bridge two way is in effect with three lanes headed to the eastern shore two lanes westbound. And the earlier crash that we talked about on the right shoulder at the parole exit now is starting to generate a little bit of a delay for folks for late arrivals to the navy game. So again, you're going to see a slight delay as you pass 6 65 aerosol and boulevard towards parole and then again on route boulevard your jammed approaching the stadium pretty much all directions approaching the stadium as you would expect on a set college football Saturday day. AJ Benza: Fame is a Bitch
Can Ben Affleck Save the Flash From Ezra Miller
"At any rate, we're gonna get a double dose of Ben Affleck next year. First, an Aquaman come march, and then in the flash in June, supposedly, that movie is too expensive to ship can. The flash, they can't shit, can they spend a ton of money in that movie, but with everything going on with the star Ezra Miller, who's been taking women hostage and doing all sorts of drugs and getting arrested on as a non binary person, he's psychotic this kid. I wonder what Warner Brothers is really going to do with it. Because for a while, they thought a shit can in the whole thing, but they can't. They've spent too much money. So they're rewriting a lot of it and trying to finesse it. So Ezra Miller is not in all of it. Maybe Ben Affleck can save that.

"Dow is up 120 points. Big change for a big D.C. hotel. I'm Jeff claypool. To read a Kessler and the traffic center. Well, in Virginia on southbound 95, watch for the delay out of lorton headed toward the Aquaman before the Aquaman, the crash along the right side, it was after the aqua near one 23 there was work in the left lane, that a delay southbound from 6 ten toward courthouse road keep an eye out for any work there. We still have the police direction on northbound 17 between Stafford lakes Parkway and fleet road. This was a crash investigation, possibly some ongoing work going on there after the crash, not sure if the investigation is still ongoing but the northbound side of the roadway is in fact still closed. Northbound three 95 is ease trying to get onto the 14th street bridge. So the earlier broken down vehicle should be cleared. On the beltway, it is the inner loop of the beltway. Delays from gallows road toward 29 and 66 the crash in the right plane. You're also going to find delays on the inner loop of four Georgetown pike headed across the American legion bridge passing river road. This is a mobile work crew in the left lane. Northbound two 70, the delays before one O 9 headed past one O 9 but before route 80, the crash reported along the left side and northbound 95 slows after route 100 to 8 95 with the work in the left lane, it is messy trying to get across the westbound span of the bay bridge, those westbound delays are out of Chester, trying to head onto the westbound span of the bridge, left lane of three, blocked with the work. "CBS News that he'll make a decision about running for president after he leaves office in January. It's 8 18. Go back to the traffic center now with Rita Kessler. Right now here in Virginia it is northbound 95 sees the delay after you cross the Aquaman headed in through lorton. After the lord and exit, the right lane is blocked with the crash involving a truck responses in the right lane, the crash is on the right shoulder, northbound three 95, not looking too terrible. You're still seeing some slowdowns from duke street passing king street. And again, after The Pentagon headed across the 14th in the case under the freeway, headed into the third street tunnel, the southbound George Washington Parkway is also slow heading in that direction. While the northbound George Washington Parkway is slow, trying to head toward the point where you go toward the memorial bridge. The westbound freeway slows off the 11th street bridge headed toward the case bridge, nothing reported along that stretch also getting into the district, the inbound suitland Parkway heavy to the light at Stanton road, also approaching first Sterling watch for any work near firth Sterling and I two 95. D.C. two 95 slows off the BW Parkway near two O two and 50 near two O two all the way toward east capitol street. If you're heading on to New York avenue, the delay is coming off the ramps from 50 in the BW Parkway to the anacostia river bridge, then you'll find the delays from South Dakota avenue headed to the light of bladensburg road with your lanes open. Back in Virginia, eastbound 9 near Clark's gap road, the crash cleared, but expect the delays we did have the crash in Sterling westbound waxpool road at Broderick drive at one point you were under police direction. Now in Maryland, eastbound I 70 before 94 in woodbine, the crash on the left side watch for the delays, southbound 95 still a little slow coming off route 100 headed past route 100 where there had been a report of a vehicle fire, protect your home from the invisible destroyer termites, call home paramount pest control for a free inspection. 8 8 8 8 8 8 home or home paramount dot com. The Charlie Kirk Show
Candace Owens and Charlie Discuss Amber Heard
"Four years later, now we got the Amber Heard situation, which you're going to laugh. You ready to laugh? I don't know who Amber Heard was, okay? See? I did. And such a Charlie thing to say. I'm very honest about my pop culture illiteracy. And someone said oh, she was the woman with the orange hair in Aquaman. I said that doesn't narrow it down. You know what to be fair. I don't know her as an actress. I know her as the person who dated Johnny Depp. Oh, is that right? Right. So I know her because I follow culture, but she's definitely not known for her acting abilities. Like the idea is she was a hot woman, right? Who got into positions of power and she hit the lotto when Johnny Depp fell under her spell. Under her spell. Yeah. And so the whole trial happens, apparently she liked defecated on his bed or something, which is like she did. And she blamed it on a poor innocent dog that can't defecate the size of a human being. I just want to be clear. What kind of a dog was it? It was like a little. It was a little Yorkshire terrier. Yeah, it was. It was a puppy Yorkshire. Yeah, and she said that that was his poop. And it was like, and Johnny was just like, all I can say is like, Yorkshire cherries don't defecate that size. And I was so happy about this case. And it goes back to Charlie's one of the things that you and I talk about all the time, which is that conservatives don't understand why fighting for culture is so important. And I get so annoyed with the who cares about this case. You know, we talk about the Jeffrey Epstein case. We need to talk about both, right? And we need to remember Andrew breitbart's words that politics is downstream from culture. And this case was so important for these last 5 years of women, just usurping so much power for themselves under the auspices of this bizarre movement that just declared that women don't

The Charlie Kirk Show
Charlie Presents a Different Perspective on the Depp-Heard Trial
"The trial of Johnny Depp versus Amber Heard. I never heard of Amber Heard before. People said she's a big deal. I guess she was the one with the red hair in Aquaman. And she's a terrible actress, by the way. I found her very not compelling and kind of rehearsed. People say she's good-looking. Whatever, I guess so. Not really. Sure about that. She just comes across as a crazy person, which she is. And so they were Johnny Depp and her married. And again, there's some broader cultural stories here implications and kind of political impacts behind the story, which is why we're talking about it. So Johnny Depp and her were married, Johnny Depp, from Pirates of the Caribbean, also the secret window, which is a great movie, by the way. Johnny Depp is an objectively terrific actor. And again, I had no real interest in the story as this was progressing. It was someone I'd never heard of suing captain Jack sparrow is kind of weird. I didn't really understand the whole part of that. And so they go to trial and then all these people are like, yeah, she pooped in his bed. I'm like, why is this nationwide news? Sounds like two crazy people suing each other, but actually it's really interesting when you look into it. So you go a level deeper and yesterday was the verdict, so basically Johnny Depp was suing to defend himself. And you might not think the story applies to you, but it absolutely applies to you. It applies to you in the sense of, if you've ever been wrongly accused of anything, if you have a son or a grandson in your life and the world that you're putting them into, that this sort of a cultural battle is incredibly important because it sends a signal to future people that very well might be falsely accused. So Johnny Depp was accused by Amber Heard by for beating her and she said he beat me, he broke my nose and immediately Amber Heard the crazy person was believed. And there was a massive kind of cost that came from this. Where almost immediately, Johnny Depp was canceled by every major institution. Imaginable, including Disney, by the way, so Disney canceled Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean. And so Johnny Depp was kind of in career limbo. People were treating Johnny Depp like how Kevin Spacey was treated after all these accusations. And this bothered Johnny Depp and so he said, I'm going to have to fight back. I'm going to have to legally push back against it. So some people say, oh, Johnny Depp was too big to cancel. I have nothing to do actually with how big Johnny Depp was. I mean, they canceled Harvey Weinstein because he was a scumbag. And he is a scumbag. They canceled Bill Cosby because not exactly a good guy at all. They tried to cancel Johnny Depp, but the only reason why Johnny Depp is now victorious is not because of how popular Johnny Depp is or how popular Johnny Depp or how big of a following is, it's because Johnny Depp fought

I played in his home game. At least three times, and they lived out like in weathersfield area or something. And so I would go from plainville and drive or from walling for it or whatever merit and I would drive all the way to plainville. And now all the way to weathersfield and play in their home game with them. And the first time I play with them, they played like a tournament first, and then when the tournament was over, they got in a cash games, and they played every cash game every game, no limit. So you played Omaha no limit, you're playing double flop no limit. I mean, they were playing all the games I heard on the show or whatever. And they played them all no limit. And I'm like, guys, you can't play all these little bit. You've got to scale it back, you know? And but I'll never forget I was massive chip leader the day I announced to them that we were quitting the show or quitting the times and watching our own company. And I was massive chip leader in the tournament. And Jason's father Harold, who lives in this area. He lives in this county with us. You know, part of the year, and then you go home part of the year. And two hands, he had my stack. I was massive chip leader, and I had pocket aces he had pocket 7s, and he was like middle stack of short stack. He got it all in with me. And he flopped a 7. And the very next hand are like two hands later, I had like ace king suited, and now I was half stacked and then he went all in. I called this all in and he had like aces and I had ace king. And he took my stack and I was like, this is brutal, you know, I mean, Connecticut. Now I'm sitting there and I gotta wait for the cash games to start in the so that's what we invented starting like heads up matches and stuff and but I ended up playing in their home game. At least three times. And it was great. It was just, it was so much fun. They all talked about the show, but we started to have, you remember Aquaman who gave us the beer? It still sits on my shelf. I'm looking at it right now as we're talking. It was called Annie up ale. Chris Aquaman, and he was from the Boston area, but he would drive for the home game. And mine is still full. I think you drank yours. Yeah, I drank my attempting. But it's got the cap on and still it's still full. He found wonders that the upper world had never known aquaman names neither of his parents in this telling noting that only that his mother died when he was a baby he also made personnel last. Probably the forties true disney princess He also mentioned that his father used a hundred scientific secrets to enable him to draw oxygen from the water to develop his speed strengthened mental powers. His father died because it was the forties style. His father was like thirty so he had to go. He was old. I was gonna say superman the minute them parents. I fulfill their purpose. Man they're dead. Having his tail aquaman leaves to hunt for you one twelve and finds it docked at its base a little island near the sea lanes with the captain already assure reporting to a superior officer aquaman punches his fist through steel hall style. And i i honestly have not had a favorite character this episode. I don't think there were any like characters. That's why lan was cute. So i'm going to go with a lot mon- that's and that's also a not an abstract thought so well done. We picked something. That wasn't an abstract thought. Av picking paddle moon. I'm surprised we picking. It's the cut called meco. Yes that is. Enrico the cop just because i like cats. That's more for than tail. Yeah we did we did. I wish we saw more maker to be honest. and chloe. who are you picking. That would be the fourth angel which i believe is romulo array meal for when how am i forgetting. The big bads name negga. Yes does the the gun attacks. Yep yeah once yeah. I can say that we're always doing having alien. It was fairly obvious in terms of writing. What would y'all right this episode out of five. I gave it a three point. Five which was the lowest which was the lowest score on the pundits. Podcast that we that i gave and i felt really bad about it because mine was super low but now on this podcast i guess i guess it's it's actually not long i think i'm getting that impression So easy wanted to give this episode of five. I also gave it three point five. Oh i'm elevated all the giving it three point five. Oh my gosh. i'm validated. Oh i like. I like this. I like this feeling khloe through profile. thank you. Validating me scruple. Did you very nice. I would like to point out. That's one of the first time. I've actually all agreed in writing since episode one whole gave it a four all gone downhill since episode. One olgun own gone downhill almost said he. He'll i shut the. I did say he'll actually somewhere gone down. He'll greg tunnel telephone downhill on full down mode. Is that our overall ranking for the episode was ten point five which means that the same episode forty six episode forty six was the sort of hope and i feel like this episodes not as good as that episode. It was a so that comes above this every time yet but that and i also like that road because it was the davy mon is actually patrimony episode onto the future. Yeah it was actually plus. We actually had like a payoff almost there for a second. So i'm going missing. Is the series needed more plot. Mon- it did. I think. I think we've been saying that as a joke but i think it is very true. In any case. I'm going to put episode sixty-seven onto episode forty six we in agreement. The yup okeydokey goes that is eighteenth place which feels like i'm not that feels surprisingly high. That makes me feel good because that means that we finished almost on a strong ish point point we finished on a not the worst point which is a lot better than it could have gone considering the lost episode. We almost put it in last place. Yeah lassos real bad. Yeah yep so in terms of my own ranking. I put in thirtieth place. So it's kind of in the middle of the the episodes so that's still fine. Av what place you putting in episode sixty seven. I'm just putting it in twentieth. Place seems fitting for us types of twenty twenty. Yeah so twenty place of lost episode. Twenty twenty in twentieth place cooler. So that is above episode twenty-eight the children's five survival and below episode twenty one. The tide tuning update..

Have the only walks and then he disappears you. What the hell was that. Show me more of the hair. It's like you get you get all of the underwater. Look but you also get a little bit of an eighties metal band vibe with a lot of the lands with a lot of the underwater action here and so i am all for flowing locks. Bad wig good good wig. I don't care. Give me if you are an underwater creature or half human whatever. Grow your hair out. Didn't they have to. They have to color correct. BrainStuff
Why Can't We Breathe Underwater?
"Can't we breathe underwater I haven't met everybody but everyone that I have met has not been able to breathe underwater, except for Aquaman of course, and it's a good question when you think about it. Because water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen right well, it goes in the chemicals. There's one thing we need to remember. Though about those chemicals, it's that once they react. In certain ways, they form compounds that are often nothing like their original elements think of to solo artists from different bands, and they get together, and they make an album that sounds. Sounds nothing like the original music for example. If you react carbon, hydrogen and oxygen together one way you get glucose, but if you react them together another way you get vinegar, and if you react to them yet another way you get fat, and if you react them yet, another way you get ethanol and glucose, fat, ethanol and vinegar are nothing like each other, but they're all made from the same elements in the case of hydrogen and Oxygen Gas. You react them together. One way you get liquid water and the reason we can't breathe. Liquid water is because the oxygen used to make water is bound to two hydrogen. and. We can't breathe that resulting liquid. The oxygen that fish breathe is not the oxygen that's in H.. Two O. Instead, the fish are breathing oa-to oxygen gas and nats dissolved in that water. Many different gases dissolve in liquids, and we can see an example of this all the time with carbonated beverages in knees beverages. There's so much carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the water that it rushes out in the. The form of bubbles fish breathe that dissolved oxygen out of the water, using their gills, and it turns out that extracting the oxygen. Isn't that easy? Air Has something like twenty times more oxygen in it than the same volume of water, plus let's remember that water is a lot heavier and thicker than air, so it takes a lot more work to move it around the main reason that Gilles work. Work for fish is the fact that fish are cold blooded. This reduces their oxygen demands tremendously warm, blooded animals like Wales breathe air like people do because it would be hard to extract oxygen using kills human beings can't breathe underwater because our lungs don't have enough surface area to absorb enough oxygen from water in the lining of our lungs is adapted to handle air instead of water. However, there have. have been experiments with humans breathing other liquids like fluorocarbons, fluorocarbons can dissolve enough oxygen, and our lungs can draw that oxygen out. It's just that first breath where you suck in the fluorocarbons and the enter your lungs. That is not very pleasant, but it is possible and look. Please nobody out there. Try to breathe underwater, because unless you're an extraordinary person or maybe a mutant. You're probably going to drown.

"What a year it's shaping up to be for. Storage manufacturing has taken a hit and some projects are getting delayed for obvious reasons Our analysts that would mackenzie say that. The coronavirus crisis will trim twenty twenty forecasts for Battery Installations. Globally by almost twenty percent. But they still expect it to be a record year and the projects that caught our eye are not going to get built this year but they do show the strength and resiliency of this market a few examples here. A coal plant in North Dakota is going to be replaced. In part with a one acre battery array that uses a new technology capable of discharging for a hundred and fifty hours. That's more than thirty times longer than a lithium ion batteries. The Electric Utility in Hawaii just awarded contracts for sixteen projects that add up to more than three gigawatt hours of storage and those will replace an oil fired. Coal-fired Power Plant in California Southern California Edison signed contracts for seven hundred seventy megawatts of batteries. Many of them paired with solar projects to replace aging gas plants plus in China more hybrid wind solar and battery plants are starting to emerge and wood. Mackenzie expects rapid growth in batteries within China in the coming years. It's the country will lead Asia. This lead Dan Foley who would McKenzie's head of energy storage to proclaim to our journalist at Green Tech Media The utility energy storage market is blowing through milestones faster than we can report them for example those Sei projects are together worth two hundred megawatts more than the entire twenty nineteen market says Fin Foley. So let's go through these. I think we should focus on the bright shiny objects I. What do we know about this form? Energy Project Catherine mentioned this at the end of a recent show so catherine what is Great River Energy who is form energy and what kind of battery could emerge from. This relationship is a great river. Energy is the largest generation and transmission co-op and what that means is it generates and provides power under long-term contracts to a bunch of member. Co Ops like twenty eight member Co ops and this is how a lot of the COP system is formed in the US where they're small co ops that are often serving rural communities. They are very much about keeping costs low for their customers and customers. Own the CO OPS. They are customer owners but then they sign up for long term agreements with these GMT providers. Because it does save the money in the long run and a lot of these. Gmt providers we've seen have these long term contracts For old coal plants and so great river energy is one of those GM GMT's and they made a decision a while back to shut down coal a coal plant call strip and they have been thinking about. How are we going to backfill it? And what are we going to use to do that? And so they've certainly been deploying a lot of renewables and they just recently entered into this agreement with Form Energy and forum is a start up Led by Matteo Harm. Yo who came out of TUSLA. He was the energy storage guru there yet mingchang. Who's an MIT professor? Who has been really another brains behind storage and Ted Wiley who co-founded Aquaman and energy storage company and there are a couple of other. Mit folks. Billy Woodford and Marco Ferrara and there. It's just a team of incredible minds. Who decided to try to calm at storage by thinking about it it as potentially being able to replace all of these Uncaught non cost effective coal plants and so their technology seeks to be super cheap long-duration Nontoxic something you would find everywhere to be able to you know. Put together a type of a flow battery that could just replace the footprint of any fossil fuel plant so that is their goal. And that's what a great river energy has decided to take a bet on. Let's talk about the tech first and then the rural cooperatives piece second jigger. This is a battery. We don't know much about but they call it an aqueous air battery. What does that mean well? Basically in it uses more abundant materials. Because what you find is as that the metals wondering yeah we'll water but also the metals they're using or quite Easy to find and so it's aluminum zinc magnesium etc right. And so so what you find is that they have this ability to use low-cost materials right and they're able to Store lots of energy so when you think about this ad. Matteo talks about this in his interview The way that Lithium. Ion Batteries work is that you can actually charged quickly and discharged quickly but at the same time basically to charge it as to discharge it. And so what you find. Is that these batteries It's around like sort of being able to constrict the nozzle and only making it one megawatt right because you can imagine that you could make a lithium ion battery that's a hundred megawatts incised but only dispatch one megawatt at a time and then make it last one hundred fifty hours now. The problem with that those. It's a super expensive way to get one hundred fifty hour battery whereas this is a much cheaper way. It's it's similar to sort of Etienne redux batteries and others were the basically have this. The fluid that that holds the charge can be expanded at a very low cost. The fuel cell that converts that fluid into energy that's utilized is the expensive

Now Playing - The Movie Review Podcast
Joker, Commentary
"Going to be a podcast her everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now and Stewart and this is the host who always has negative thoughts Jacob joker a movie that I could not believe have the height around it that it did I can't recall the last time a superhero film was Ben so polarizing I mean people worried about shootings in theaters people saying Joaquin deserves an Oscar yeah it was all over the place coming out of Toronto Oh this is going to be the film of the year it's going to get all the Oscars and then Todd Phillips director opens his mouth and got a lot of backlash for what he thought we're comedy was these days yet all the place with this film that said I got to say this one took me by surprise I assumed that DC was in free fall. I mean we have all commented on how their output has been inconsistent can we all agree at best putting it nicely right that they have not had the scene unless nece that the Marvel Universe has been able to bestow on all of their works when I heard they were doing a one off joker movie I was like that sounds like a bad idea story are you getting those marvel paycheck saying they're in free fall I mean wonder woman made one of a billion dollars off man made a billion dollars what kind of free was that will somebody say well I don't care what the hardcore people think the truth of the matter is a lot of their movies have stone DOC and they've not consistent the fact that we have a one of joker movie this joker that we're told will never appear with Batman what the hell are they doing marvel would never do that is what I guess I would say sure but I don't mind that like what is the best spider man film Spiderman entered the spider verse like that is not connection to the m. c. you or what Sony is doing with Tom Allen's spider manoeuvres etta any of that so I don't mind a one off if you can just pull off a good movie I don't care if it's in any kind of continuity villain standalone movies making a Superhero movie without a superhero has not been something I've thought has worked before I mean Holly Aries cat-woman Tom Hardy thinom they could never figure out how to do sinister of six I mean you could even probably throw the Star Wars prequels into that concept having the super villain story told without a counterpoint of heroism where's our entry point who are we supposed to be with and what are they going to accomplish the you mentioned marvel I think that DC here is taking a cue from Marvel's newest acquisition Fox Todd Phillips talked about how it took a lot of convincing at Warner Brothers to let him do an R. rated joker movie but that was the only thing he was pitching and he's literally hearing responses from Warner brothers like we sell joker pajamas at target what are you going to do to our character that might hurt Pyjama sales and look at the roads that deadpool paved and I think even more specifically logan going more dramatic and being R. rated you can't beat marveled by playing Marvin those game the way you beat marvelous by making your own Fox did that and nobody is even see new mutants because nobody knows what to do with it again the X. Men horror movie yeah they've experimented sometimes those experiments have been successful I'm just saying approaching this project hearing the we're going to do a one off film about the region of joker seemed like a waste of time I was not excited about this movie at all until I saw the trailer Yeah Al admit I mean after seeing what happened to jared Leto in jokers role in suicide squad. We'll see at that movie he doesn't think he was in that movie enough he's got a scene it was not overly excited to see what they would do with joker now what I will say is somewhere at this very moment jared Leto has pissed Yeah Joaquin Phoenix get attached this because that's what I would have gotten excited you know he's one of those actors like Tom Hardy who's like a Nicholas cage who is just going to make some decisions and go with them they could be czar. They could be captivating like that trailer yeah they really tapped into Martin Scorsese in that taxi driver field but I was even more excited about Joaquin Phoenix playing this role and should be pointed out he is the man that would be doctor strange he has quartered comic book movies before and walked away saying this is not really for me why do this one he was also offered the role of Bruce Banner the reason he didn't do them he didn't WanNa sign multi picture contracts he didn't want to do what Chris Evans and Robert Downey junior did where the next seven years of your life you're working basically as a day player for marvel here it's a one picture deal and the ways they got him on board for this one it was Todd Phillips again Joaquin was connected from the very beginning and the Pitch Phillips gave him is we're going to make a real movie but we're going to get warner brothers to fifty million dollars for it by calling it fucking joker yeah how did Todd Phillips and doing this because I've seen a lot of his films old cool that hangover trilogy these are not things that I associate with a Gritty New York Scorsese style film you saying that and coach when I look at this filmography I hadn't seen most of what he meant. Yeah they're bad comedies well he makes kind of comedy I don't patronize the I'm not ever interested in watching skin hutch that's just not something I'm going to see I did see war dogs which I actually thought it was a little underrated I thought it was pretty good it's okay yeah kind of fell apart at the end yeah thought it was decent as well and it was four dogs that actually got this happening as he was at an early screening of war dogs with Warner brothers and realize is is exact phrase was war dogs wasn't going to set the world on fire as so he started talking to Warner about what could we make that's going to really get attention and do a little bit more be a little more provocative look way down on his resume his first film and you might actually see why he really got the Gig I was doc I didn't realize I had always heard about this documentary about the punk icon singer G- yeah I did not know top Phillips did that I have seen it ooh those are some live performances you wanna be careful with he strips down throws a species tough stuff to watch yeah I watched the movie I was like Oh I've always wanted to see it this gives me an lent reason it may be the closest of all his films to joker it begins with an actual endorsement from John Wayne Gay see another killer clown so yeah brutal I don't know that I'm telling people I recommend that experience be prepared I don't say this lightly it is very punishing it is very hard set is provocative and ways a lot of people probably want appreciate but you can't see a director who's very much trying to confront a freak entertainer and I do think at a core G G Allen and joker are two sides of the same coin so I would be interested to see a guy that came from punk rock bring a punk rock aesthetic to of joker movie if we must Gotcha Joker Origin Story. I WanNa say though I'm hesitant because I mean I always liked the way Keith Ledger played it how did I get my scars there's a danger and telling US definitively how joker came to exist right. There's something about the mystery we want to leave I've always liked the mystery the funny thing and you can go back to books and Nachos where in our talks about the killing joke written by Alan Moore the joker says I always change my story but here's the version I'm going to tell of my own gin and they tell an origin story and then just as origin story we're just GonNa make that the real thing but yeah I've always preferred him to be like Batman rewritten so obsessed with origin Martha Thomas Wayne Getting Killed and the pearls and walking out Zora all of that that has been told so many times joker being the opposite of Batman I liked that you just this mysterious chaotic clown figure that comes out of nowhere yeah I've definitely was thinking the killing joke when watching this and how it took elements of that in that Comic Book Joker was a failed stand up comedian who was kind of down on his luck in a rundown older Gotham city but I came in I think we might be seeing virtually and adaptation of the killing joke minus all the Batman stuff no they definitely go in a different direction with this but it gave them a good starting point and joker said he likes his origin story to be multiple choice. DC is having both ways they're gonNa make their continuity multiple choice switch movies do you want and continuity go ahead that's weird for me that we're seeing something that I should not think of as a comic book movies essentially what they're telling me don't worry I'll have nothing to do with Zam Aquaman wonder woman and all of that I mean did they even have that DC logo they have that old school Warner Brothers logo show up no DC logo okay and yet I mean it's not just your average comic book movies this movie's doing bigger than a lot of films I mean it's opening bigger than the average thor film it's maybe not topped here it's not spiderman but I'm not really it's no atman though it's beaten that man right yeah this is going to have a ninety million joining in the US. The biggest October release of all time is it Halloween in the mood for something kind of scary after it we want another killer oh but it's shocking to me the box office for what essentially feels a little art film is so huge and that it's rated R. You can't get teenagers in which is where marvel makes its money is they are aiming specifically at thirteen to seventeen year old market with their PG thirteen films and yes adults can like it in younger kids can like it but they're keeping that content for a rated R. Film in an error where in my experience it's much harder for young people to get into a rated R. Film that it made this much money is shocking to me I expected it to do well I didn't expect it to break venoms record

The South Florida Morning Show
Jason Momoa, Hawaii And Kardashian Karen discussed on The South Florida Morning Show
"I don't speaking of movies by the way I write a lot I watched well I I take it back I tried to watch for men what did you think it sucks I thought it was terrible I couldn't really mission I was like this is this is ridiculous but they were in the process of filming Aquaman too and apparently they had to stop it because Jason Momoa got hit by a bulldozer over the weekend he's the vain he's pro testing the construction of this huge giant telescope that's taking place in Hawaii but it's supposedly take all that thing and I'd say Kardashian Karen and this story last week yeah okay he was out there in eighty still disturbing for the bulldozer the bulldozer item yeah you know it was is that Hey buddy this is two hundred Bucks he made my fame able really to want to make this sequel gets the first can you run over my leg the first one sock it was it was like a joke yeah I I I get to the the first like I had seen wearing no clothes to be you know like you know a lot of fight in in space are under water and like this looks like a cartoon it's

Barsky Radio
Jason Momoa, Aquaman And DC Comics discussed on Barsky Radio
"Story. The biggest story today is I thought it was the report. But apparently, it is it is the fact that Jason momoa shaving his beard off. Jason momoa was. Interesting shaving his beard. So so was that his thing you'd have a beard. I mean, so his look I mean guys find for whatever it is. I don't think he's particularly talented actor personally, but his claim to fame is that he is a very attractive cut individual with kind of a gruff, look, and he plays a superhero. He he's. Yeah. He played up barbarian character on game of thrones. And then he got the role for aquaman any played aquaman and Justice league. And then in the Auckland movie is that part of your whole deal. No, that's DC. Dismissive Toronto run run thought he was telling Garrett something that you'd be scared say, you know, as a marvel comic nerd, so he thought he was telling you something that that he'd wanna know. And Jason momoa, whatever I was thinking. Wow, you're like dismissing Ron what's that? And now, we know he doesn't replace for the wrong team plays for DC comics interest. I said to my goal. So judging by your reaction, not that's not that big story is well it is you're interested as beard. Dismissive excuse, right. Right. Don't get me wrong. I liked DC movies. I thought I thought it was a very fun movie was fine in it. I just I'm not a big trip back. All

The Big Picture
Breaking Down 'Shazam!'
"Finds itself at an interesting inflection point. I would say I thought she was a very fun and entertaining movie, but it did not really feel like anything that had come in the DC universe before. And you kind of explain to me. What should I am is? And what it's trying to do. Sure. I mean, I kind of had the. To do the same thing after watching the movie because like right around the time the post credits scene with a evil Caterpillar happened. I was kinda like I've no idea what any of this stuff is. So thankfully, Mike does have a a piece on the ring dot com. A great website kind of breaking down the kind of Kazan origins. But yeah, he's he was actually originally called captain marvel and like in the movie there was like a wizard named 'schisms who gave him like all these superpowers. But when he sorta got folded into DC comics because marvel had its own captain marvel he then became Zam. But the whole spiel is basically the same thing like the wizards powers you activate it by saying Zam, and then I guess in the big conversion you just become buff, Zachary Levi. Yeah, I didn't even know buff Zachary Levi was going to be a thing that I would ever have to talk about. I can't say when I was watching Chuck ten years ago. That this ever crossed my mind that he would be a superhero, I think Tony Lee. This movie is pretty significantly different from superman vs Batman and the Justice league films and even wonder woman, which I thought was you know, is a very charming and obviously hugely successful movie. But there is a lightness in the tone, and it's not quite as operatic goofy. As was l-. You know, what did you make of the kind of movie that Sam was trying to be yet? No, I thought it was fun at kind of had like almost throwback Amblin entertainment coming of age vibe like something you'd see from like Amblin in like the eighties. But with the caveat that instead of a kid going on venture or something he can just become a superhero. But I thought it was a it was it was kind of an appropriate tone for for the kind of here that this guy is and I kind of like that, you know, a kid like a teenager becoming Kazan like he has like a bit of an aimlessness to him at the beginning. Like, there's not the sort of great power with great with great power comes great responsibility type speech. You just sorta has to learn things on the fly Yemen. One of the first things that the character does after he realizes his powers as he just goes to a convenience store in buys beer and candy. And you know, I it, you know, the movies clearly pitched as sort of what if big, but superhero, and it's very effective in showing us like maybe not with the real world ramifications would be because it's a little bit different in tone in the real world. But some of the like aspirations that you have as an adolescent, and the things that you wish you could do when you were thirteen sham does for the first hour of this movie, and the movie ultimately just becomes a story about like friendship and the way that we act bigger and older than we are. And what we can get away with in that time. And then it does turned into a little bit of a superhero movie. What did you make of the kind of balancing of those tones? Yeah. I mean, I think I did prefer sort of the the first half of the move. In that respect, as you know, there are so many superhero movies out there. And I think for the most part it's sorta gets derivative to when the movie gets the guy discovers his powers, you know, like Peter Parker, like scaling skyscrapers type of thing. But it was fun for Suzanne because it felt very like very genuine response. What if a fourteen year old kids suddenly had powers like, yeah? He would try to buy beer. He would go to script strip club in like beam about the chicken wings because this is a PG thirteen movie. You know, if he's in a world where superman Batman exists, and he doesn't really know. What to do is? You just if he can't find people to save is he just going to he's going to try to make cash and become a YouTube star. It was an interesting approach. But I think like I preferred that half of the movie versus like, the Mark strong shows up with seven CGI deadly sin, archetypes, or whatever. And it's time to punch him a lot. Yeah. I agree. I don't think part was active. It's funny because it feels like a movie like this, which is not exactly a reinvention. But is a is a reconsidering of what these kinds of movies can be still does arrive and its conclusion at the notion that needs to feature a lot of punching and a lot of fighting the bad guy. I'm curious to see if as we grow inside, the D C E U, I guess much like Zam. If they'll ever change the the the approach that they take having kind of the final showdown in the final forty five minutes of the movie that was also one of my struggles. Honestly with wonder woman, which I thought as I said was really clever and well made and then ultimately just turned into Diana fighting a demon monster who was played by David through Lous. What do you make of the decisions that DC is now making to singular is each of their movies? I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, they they did a pretty quick pivot from like fast-tracking their Justice league movie which end up being like relative to the expectations a bit of a bomb for them. Also, it didn't really track critically. But you know, they're kind of like making these films that have this very little interconnectivity like aquaman was only really playing the seeds for Auckland to and I guess a trench spinoff, which I could go on like a twenty minutes handed about the trench about the trend. Can't wait for the trench. And like kind of the same thing with wonder woman sequel in feels that way, which is. To you know, if it does well enough at the box office like affiliates just leading into sham two or maybe like a black atom movie, which is like a sham villain. That's supposed to be played by Dwayne Johnson. If you look at like the C projects that are in the air like a rebooted suicide squad, James Gunn, new bad movie. Perhaps a flash movie there's all these other projects like the one glaring omission is there are no plans to make like a Justice league to and not to say that would never happen again. But clearly like the D C you right now is content. Just kind of throwing stuff out there and seeing what resonates with audiences yet. If you look down there slate, we talked about this a little bit during the release of aquaman, but I was just in add an in Vegas at cinema Khan. And they were very proud of the approach that they were taking telling their stories because the next the next handful of movies. They have is of course, Zam, and you know, they also have joker which is coming in October. Which also feels quite standalone seems to have virtually nothing in common with the movie Lakesha Zam. And then there's also a birds of prey which is. Theon story of sort of five superhero team that will also include Margot Robbie Harley Quinn, and that totally and visually looks completely different from those other two movies. And so they've taken this decision to not just make that flash movie and not just make whatever inevitable green lantern movie. And with the same kind of stormy visualises that that Zack Snyder created, but to just kind of individually each story, which is what a lot of comic books are actually a lot of comic books have separate illustrators. They have separate writers their tones are quite different amazing spider. Man could be quite different from x men and superman could be quite different from, you know, detective comics, and what's going on with that, man. And of course, I guess next year late next year. We'll have the Batman which Matt Reeves Batman movie. Do you know, your your very closely track the comp films for us is it more interesting to you of all of this the fits together or do you like it better? If it stands alone and the movies get to be what they are. Well, I. Kind of like maybe I just have a bit of a marble fatigue. Just because it feels like we've been preparing for endgame like just just forever. But yeah, I kind of like this approach because you know, like, if something doesn't, you know resonate with with audiences like I personally wasn't as big of a fan as as wonder woman as other people were which is fine. You know, I I like parts of it. But, but you know, for the most part people really enjoyed it. And I think you know, it's an interesting approach. I think what will probably be most interesting is with wonder woman command and Zam they've all been pretty well received. And they've made a good amount of money. I'm curious what happens like how the DC EU responds when something flops with critics audiences in the box office. Do they like shake it off? Or if it's like, if it's bracing a certain tone, like, you know, let's say joker is actually quite terrible. And and you know, it's like a Scorsese prestige that. Just kind of doesn't work like will the DC you kinda void being that experimental. Again. I I'm curious to see what happens when there's kind of like a speed bump on the road for them. I am too is an interesting question because it does seem like in with Shas AM and most likely joker and handful of these other movies. They don't come with that two hundred and fifty million dollar production price tag. You know, they're definitely smaller movies with more modest ambitions, at least in terms of the execution of the movie. And so the risk is lower. So if let's say joker is not the sort of world-beating, cultural colossus that many would have us believe this week. That's okay. I think that they could probably survive that. And it's an you're right. It is a really interesting pivot away from all of that interconnectiveness. Is there anything else about his that you you really liked and you responded to? Yeah. I really like that, you know, I thought Zachary Levi was was just so good at like kind of capturing basically like, you know, a kid in a swollen dealt spot ended it so well like there were times where you almost felt to childlike for guy who's still like fourteen years old, but you could tell he was just having such a blast. And and yeah, I would have never expected Chuck would be like a swollen superhero. But I never expected Jim from the office to like, you know, make some hard movie also become buffer like Michael bay film. So I I guess, you know sick. I'm stars. They can transform. Yeah. Could you cast a sitcom debauche sitcom figure into into a superhero movie right now is there? Anybody springs to your mind? Is Jim Parsons our next. Green lantern. You think? Oh god. No, no. I'm trying to think of like if someone from parks and rec ado that transformation that isn't Chris Pratt. Because I mean, he's he's just forget about this point. He's he's like a discount printing. Frazier. But he he has done that as well. I mean, I guess maybe if if Adam Scott were cast as as galactic that would probably that. That's as close as we're gonna get

Mixed Reactions to Apple's New Services
"Apple unloaded a huge number of announced yesterday. A couple of big services first off apple TV. Plus, it's premium video service those updated Amazon Apple TV channels program as well as the debut of an apple credit card as well as apple news, plus an apple arcade allot to break down here. There was for you TV. Plus, I mean, that's pretty obvious. They rolled out Oprah come on. It's Oprah Spielberg and Steven Spielberg Reese Witherspoon, they basically were like, look, we know you guys already have net flakes. We're going to roll out every listener we could possibly pay for to try to figure out a way to get into the whole streaming video game. So this is were I had problems with it. They basically had all these towels all these big name stars come up on state and talk about their projects than there was a there was a seal real at the end. But really we didn't get a lot of footage on these projects. And like, I'm not that excited about anything that I've seen don't you know, that all movie trailers are just like that. Like when I go to the movies right before I watched the movie that I really wanna watch instead of a really well produced trailer. I get the actors behind the show just talking about what their show is gonna look like, that's that's what gets me excited for things. Okay. Authors of all you note, you'll footage, you know, that what they're gonna do is just slowly portion out these trailers. Instead this just the announcements, and then they're gonna get all of us in the media to write about each one of these trailers second of all I'm kinda surprised from what you said. Because like that Seifi thing called c. Yeah. With like aqua man that sounded totally bad ass. That's pretty cool. I don't know that there was nothing there that really inspired a lot of excitement. I. There's a little bit misleading. It's Nazi with aqua. Man. It's a. Facing? C S E C. Yes, they're all blind. They're all blind in the ocean with aquaman own blind. And they've been blind long enough that they debate whether vision was even a thing ones, which I thought look I thought it was kind of cool. It was a whole post apocalypse, you know, what would have made a cooler if there was a trailer for it. I would just say that the fact that we didn't get a price for this thing like the actual Vail -bility of the service is still it's falls, very vague. Probably the next iphone? There are a lot of questions and given the environment where we've got so many for streaming services, including one that we're expecting from Disney, which almost got no brainer for a lot of people anybody with a lot of competition for apple to get into. I'm curious if Apple's going to offer like trial, memberships Rapple TV, plus with you know, with your iphone or something like that Google offers things like that. If you buy new Android phone, probably at the first month free on the at least ninety days for YouTube TV, apple music, apple music was free trial when it launched through for three months because they didn't mention the price, and they had so many stars on stage to me, it seems that the priming the pump to say this is going to be like twenty dollars service, or whatever it's gonna be a premium to your service. They're trying to say this high quality, storytelling yada, yada, yada. You're going to be paying allied. Problem is that the top tier is HBO. Now in HBO is fifteen dollars a month. I don't think they could possibly justify going above HVAC not buying it. I I've not into the cheap though. So yeah, you're. Keep in mind. Yeah. You're you're spending Brown fifteen bucks from that flex spending. If you're spending fifteen bucks for HBO best thirty bucks right there. Got who direct TV now YouTube TV, there's so many options out there. They're all competing for your dollars. And really right now just didn't see any projects there that maybe see maybe. But that really entice me to actually like wanting to pay money for this thing. I think it's pretty safe to say that there's there's lots of concern whether this is really going to move the needle, and if anybody is really going to get to excited about it by we've said, the so many times you cannot count out apple for anything, especially when they just got started. They're sitting on more than two hundred fifty billion dollars. They've obviously wanted to hire the best in the greatest for this. So. It might take a while. But I imagine they're probably gonna get some sort of foothold unless they give up on me. The we made this argument when they came into shaming musical apple music there now number two behind Spotify. It didn't take that long to get there. So you're right. We shouldn't easily discount apple the other one. I wanted to the other big announcement one talked about was apple card, which then you cover payments that is it worth getting.
