Elementary School Sues Students Over Pronoun Blunder

"Because this is really disturbing. A Wisconsin school district. According to the New York Post, has filed sexual harassment complaints against three middle schoolers for calling a classmate by a wrong pronoun. The school district, it's in keel 3600 residents there. It's charging three 8th graders imagine that. At the middle school was sexual harassment after an incident in April in which the students refused to use they to refer to a classmate who would switch pronouns just a month before this alleged incident. I mean, come on, guys. Come on, I mean, you know that we have a problem as a nation. When instead of focusing on things like baby formula and making sure the supply chain is there so that our infants aren't starving, when we're focused on things like using the right pronoun and it's sexual harassment if you don't, because somebody just recently decided to switch pronoun, I mean, come on.

"Available now This is morning edition from NPR news I'm Rachel Martin I'm Leila faulted NMA Martinez Despite 20 years of training and nearly $90 billion invested Afghan forces crumbled in August 2021 following the U.S. withdrawal from the country The first U.S. government report released today takes a look at how and why Afghan national defense and security forces collapsed The person in charge of the report special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction John sopko joins us John right off the bat the $90 billion question is who is accountable Well there's a lot of blame to go around Unfortunately we had been warning and as well as others in and outside of the administrations for years at the Afghan military the way we were training and advising them was not able to function on its own And it was really only a question of time when the AMD has which is the Afghan defense forces would collapse What was the number one reason the most important reason why as you say the Afghan military despite our investment in them could not function on their own Well I think the number one cause we highlight is the impact on the morale of the average Afghan soldier and police officer After the fall agreement was signed as well as the April 2021 announcement by the Biden administration about the troops and the contractors leaving basically it left the Afghan soldiers in the lurch And their morale was devastated That's what this report found What were the contractors providing that Afghan forces could not do for themselves or learn to do for themselves The contractors maintained basically all of the western equipment particularly the air assets that we had given the Afghans And after we announced we were withdrawing our support and cut back dramatically the amount of U.S. air support the Afghans had to rely on their own little air force and was in a matter of weeks after the contractors left 60% of the black hawks that we had provided them were grounded because they couldn't maintain them So it was a House of Cards to start with but once the contractors were pulled out it was like pulling all the sticks out of a Jenga pile Why wasn't the army in Afghanistan trained enough in the two decades man Basically there was no U.S. for NATO government responsible to this Other problem we highlight is that we trained them to look and act and fight like the U.S. and military sites Problem is they didn't have the capabilities to do that We never really trained them on logistics The logistics were horrible Now this is in the mean that the average Afghan soldier police officer didn't fight They fought very hard to the end but they felt abandoned and they were basically abandoned by their own government So is it fair to say that the Afghan government did not support its forces well enough And that's one of the bigger reasons why it led to their eventual collapse Well that's another key takeaway we have from the report I don't want to say flame is all on the side of the United States The Afghan government particularly the last administration didn't appreciate the peace negotiation They believed that Biden and the Trump administration were going to go through with it As a result they never really developed by they I mean the Ghani government failed to develop a national security strategy until it was too late And a number of the people we interviewed said that president Ghani became almost paranoid toward the end thinking that all of the western train generals in general officers were correct So he kept replacing military officials who were really well trained with some old guard communist generals in almost all the Army Corps Then again the prior Afghan administration never really focused on the serious problem of corruption That was endemic One of the things after everything fell apart was that I think a lot of people are wondering how could the U.S. have not known that this was about to happen So how much of this was known by The Pentagon by U.S. officials by administrations during the United States presence in Afghanistan I mean I can't speak for political pointees and what they were told and all that We can issue in reports over 700 reports I think we have issued highlighting serious problems The information was out there about the Afghan military not being able to fight on its own I think one of our senior generals general Dunford testified before he left for his leadership role there a number of years ago saying that once we start to withdraw it's only a matter of time before the Afghan military collapses So this wasn't a secret Yeah so if it wasn't a secret and alarm bells were definitely being wrong all over the place who is accountable Well we indicate that there is a tendency to think the answer to all the problems is just pour more money in There is a problem with that There's a problem that I've highlighted before That there's a tendency to only give good news and the way our system works with annual appropriations and short rotations of the State Department aid and military offices that they have to show success for their rotation And I'm not here to point fingers at any particular administration or official That's not the job of this report Which stating what the facts are And this is the first U.S. government analysis of what was going on for the last 18 months in Afghanistan and how it impacted the military And I think our governments should learn from it We will do this again I have mourned administrations of this for years We will say we're not going to do it but we're going to do it again And we should learn from this That's John sopko a special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction John.

U.S. Shortage Led Parents to Order European, Black Market Baby Formula

U.S. Shortage Led Parents to Order European, Black Market Baby Formula

"There are large Facebook groups devoted to European formulas she writes where parents share spreadsheets and detailed notes on ingredients and how these formulas compare in their U.S. counterparts she notes This was written a year ago Some caregivers report choosing them because European brands offer certain formula options like those made from goat's milk Our mug from Pasteur from pasture raised cows Which are rare nonexistent in an FDA regulated form in the U.S. Other European brands because of the perception that the formulas are of a higher quality And that European formula regulations are stricter she wrote So on this sort of black market it turns out Americans are willing to pay big bucks for European formula Zelensky says that on one website selling EU baby formula you'll find German imports that run roughly $26 for a 400 gram box Which is about quadruple the price of the top U.S. baby formulas recommended by the times Now at times these nefarious black market imports have resulted in high profile busts like in April 2021 when U.S. customs and border protection agents in Philadelphia seized 588 cases of baby formula and valued at $30,000 that violated the FDA's quote import safety regulations So European babies are drinking this stuff left and right you see But our FDA won't allow these formulas into the United States Some may contend the FDA is simply keeping Americans and their babies safe which is no doubt what regulators want you to believe But this overlooks an inconvenient fact despite the FDA's efforts Americans are consuming vast amounts of black market baby formula and the children are doing just fine

Corp. Media Has Been Silencing Alternative Views to Transgender Craze

"Meanwhile Casey points out there have been silencing alternative views Corporate media have recently permitted only a select group of persons to express heavily caveat concerns about this massive social shift in April The Washington Post featured an op-ed by trans person Corinna Khan It was given the freedom to explain that the destruction of his privates introduced a different type of bondage in that sense of surgery he's become a medical patient and will remain one for the rest of his life Washington Post even gave him permission to bemoan the distorting influences of social media on teenagers and how readily authority figures facilitate transition Missing so far in the media's patently biased and circumscribed I said careful with the words Willingness to acknowledge that perhaps this is more than just the utopian realization of the sexual revolution It's the mission of their complicity and facilitating this reality Social pressure works media propaganda work And now all of a sudden more and more people identify With the LGBT Well I don't even know what to call it The anything goes crowd In everything goes crime

May Bidenflation Strikes Again

"But first let's get to this inflation report and the politics, shall we say, of all of it? 8.3%. 8.3% was how much inflation rose in April, so we're continuing this climb here according to the bureau of labor statistics. Okay, oh, we're down from 8 and a half percent. I read one headline across a liberal television network that said inflation declines, you know, they were really trying to play that up. I'm sorry, there's really not a big difference between 8.3% and 8.5%. I'm like, hey, I'll take the two tenths of a percent, but this is not a time to celebrate a .3 is still way too high and by the way, we haven't even fully seen the effects of higher wheat prices and higher energy prices courtesy of what's going on overseas. All right, so even though the president is trying to point fingers and blame, in this case, he's been trying the Putin thing, but that's not sinking in or maga. The maga party, I guess he means Republicans. It's not going to work. I mean, the reality is these policies that he has enacted and put in place. They have led us to where we are today. You can not issue another COVID stimulus check as he did when he first came into office. That was the third one, while simultaneously putting $1.9 trillion worth of spending into the economy with his, you know, his whole stimulus effort. He didn't even get what he wanted, right? Like, imagine if he had. Then we'd be looking at, I don't know.

Unpacking the $40 Billion Bipartisan Betrayal

"Going to simply get started by allowing representative chip Roy to articulate some of the frustration that I am currently in possessive possession of. I think I've voiced the concerns of millions of Americans when we see a number as high as 40. Now remember, Biden wanted 33 billion. Which was insane in and of itself. And I'm going to explain just how insane that is in a second. But let's let chip Roy take it from here. Let's cut 76. Paul and for Maryland talked about protecting this institution or talked about this institution, but we got a $40 billion bill at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I haven't had a chance to review the bill my staff is pouring over the pages, trying to see what's in it. You want to talk about the institution. You want to talk about standing up alongside Ukraine. Why don't we actually have a debate on the floor of the people's house instead of the garbage of getting a $40 billion bill at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Not paid for without having any idea what's really in it with a massive slush fund that goes to the State Department, $13 billion, 8 billion for the economic support fund, a 110 million for embassy security. We've got 40 billion that is unpaid for and you want to sit here and lecture this body about what we're going to do or not do about staying alongside Ukraine. Why don't we talk about the American people who are hurting the wide open borders that inflation that's killing people. The jobs that people can't get because of the cost of goods and services in this country. Amen. So let's go through this. February 26th, Biden approves $350 million in military aid for Ukraine according to Reuters. March 16th, Biden approves an additional $800 million in military aid for Ukraine. According to The New York Times. March 30th, Ukraine to receive an additional $500 million in aid from the U.S.. Biden announces its NBC News. April 12th, U.S. to announce $750 million more in weapons for Ukraine officials say. According to Reuters, may 6th, Biden announces new $150 million weapons package for Ukraine. Altogether those amounts are in excess of $3 billion.

Ensuring Good Education in a Post-CRT World

"Point chapter at your Belinda high school. Awesome. So last week on April 5th in a three two vote, my school board passed a resolution to ban critical race theory in my district. So my question is, what's the next steps to ensuring that we have a good education, even after that ban? That's great. So it's a two part dance. So that's great. Now you need to say, okay, let's get pro American curriculum in our schools. So what does that look like? Hillsdale college has done a lot of work in this. We're starting to do a lot at turning point USA. But we have to teach people, what is the American story? What is the problem? What is the proper way to view American history? What is America? Was it a mistake? Was it something that has kind of fell out of the sky? There's just a couple of things I'll share here that I think could really excite high school students that they're definitely not taught in school. America was summoned into existence at a time and a place that is very unusual. In fact, it's almost never happened before in human history. Most civilizations are countries stumble into existence. They're not summoned into existence. I want you to think about that. There was a decision to create America. China just kind of existed and it was kind of the Yangtze River valley civilization is kind of built into itself. In this river valley in India and so on and so forth. But America was a group of people that made a decision founding fathers. We have a set of principles. We don't like what's happening. We're going to declare independence of things that are always true. And I'm afraid that most young people are not just being taught that even we're serving taught the opposite. They're being taught to the founding fathers were racist bigoted slave owners. And they don't know their history. They don't know that the first antislavery convention in America was hosted in Philadelphia by Benjamin Franklin in 1775. They don't know that 9 out of 13 states before the constitution was ratified in 1787 had already independently abolished slavery. They didn't a lot of young people never top that Vermont was the first state to abolish slavery in 1777, inspired by the Declaration of Independence. So the next step is get your local school districts and not just teach this, but inspire young people to be excited about the country they live in. A lot of young people, I think, are

Inflation Under Joe Biden vs. Ronald Reagan

"So I thought to myself and I like to do this on my Fox show this weekend too that wouldn't it be really great Wouldn't it be terrific to just go back and take a look at history The last time we had an inflationary economic crisis what did Ronald Reagan do Because I have the numbers showing that Reagan turned it around quickly So I pulled up this article because Biden's blaming everyone Again he wants to hike taxes here This is an article from Chris Talbot It's from the hill It's from last year May of 2021 I say it's from last year because Jen Psaki just said Jim then we play it in the last hour Jen Psaki said nobody warned them about this inflation thing Nobody would have A bunch of dopes and people believe it Nobody warned you Here's may 13th What's today's date May 10th So this was almost exactly a year ago minus three days That a guy by the name of Chris talgo who I don't know but it's a very good piece wrote a piece in the hill anyone could have seen He said Biden should take a page out of Reagan's inflation killing playbook So when Ronald Reagan got into the Oval Office in 1980 he notes he inherited an economy struggling with runaway inflation In January of 1980 inflation was 13.9% So in other words under the Reagan years when he first got into office folks the inflation problem was even worse When Biden got into office inflation was running two to 3% Brandon there managed to make it make an explode to 8 and a half percent So when Reagan got into office inflation was 13.9% By April it increased the 14.8% This is what he inherited from Jimmy Carter Ronald Reagan Far worse almost double what Biden's got now

Also make sure you stick around for the very end of the episode so you can find out where to vote for our horror movie oscar nominations because voting is officially open now and many before we get into the origin of the holiday. "I need to talk series. We're talking to keep people in the industry. So if you want to know how to take your book from the Shelf to the big screen will now will bring in someone from the industry who can explain to you how to get that done what they're looking for and how to make your work stand out. So it's really just educating authors on being a boss of their book and scaling it is just ability, right? That's and I don't think people think about I mean even myself here listening like we don't think about everything that goes into not judging the writing of the book. Yeah, but after like the marketing all the things that you know, you should you should be doing with your book which is why you need to make sure that you have a great publisher Ur a great Publishing Company, you know, that is behind you to help you things yeah. Yeah. Definitely you're going to need the support of people around you as well because it gets lonely. You know, everything doesn't work when you that you're attempting to do and so sometimes you can get a little discouraged a little hard on yourself. And so you're going to need the support of people around you while you're on this journey, but but there's no that you can do it. There are a lot of people who are living a life that they designed just from their book or books, right so it can definitely happen. It's just like you say, you have to give tap into the right people. You may have the right mindset. You have to know what direction you want to go in and what you, you know plan on doing, you know, even after your book. Yes, you know, just so you're off your next steps are because your book will always be there like you say, you know, are you going to let it die out right you're going to you know, take the necessary steps to make sure that the long as you age. Have your book, you know just keeps going and going I know there's some books have been written like years and years ago, you know that people are still reading and that's because just based off of off by shoe game. They're still being marketed. They're still being you know talked about they're still on certain platforms and things like that. Yes, exactly. I think that's so awesome. So tell me what's next for your company. We really want to continue on the path that we're on again since covid-19 hit a lot of like you said a lot of people have to Pivot in business. And so we don't want to rush anything we want to make sure we're really thorough and covering all of the aspects that authors need so we'll continue to grow books or the new rich off throughout the next eighteen months. We will be opening up to suggestions to what are followers really want to to know in terms of scaling. They're booked beyond the retail job. So we'll be adding more influencers and keep people from different companies and brands that can help them. Learn how to get into film or get onto net Netflix streaming bath bombs and things of that nature. So the two focuses for our brand within the next 18 months growing books or the new rich and it's help helping as many authors as we possibly can. I think that issue. So so awesome. I feel like I think just it's just a blessing for anyone who's listening that is, you know, aspiring to be an author or if you're already an author and you feel like your book is not getting what it needs. You you need to reach out April and see what you know, she can possibly do to help you so you can get on the right path with your books cuz again people are sitting at home and I know I've read more books since we hope than happy that I probably have ever ran and I'm a Raider. Yeah. Yep. Avid Reader, so I I get print books. I do audio books Kindle, you know all of those things. And so I know for me sometimes when I just need to escape it all cuz you wake up and you're like it is a freaking Global pandemic going on right now that is affecting, you know, so many people and social injustice going on. "Hi April. Thank you so much for joining me on another the other episode of convo with Keisha. How are you today? I'm doing good. Thanks for having me. I'm excited to chat with you my friends. So start by telling you the truth. It's a little bit about who you are. Okay, so, I'm April Charisse. I have been in a publishing industry for over ten years now for the past eight years. I've been running a boutique press called upon Avenue publishing and as of 2020 in the midst of a pandemic we began to offer. Our books are the new Rich Palm platform, which will help authors. Learn how to Market their books better online and retain more of their sales and royalties so that they can live their life at their dream. That is awesome. Oh my gosh, I love that. I love that so so much. So how did you get started in publishing? So irony is always so funny. So, I never dreamed that publishing would be something that I would do. I had a friend long-time friend that I grew up with who began writing what I call her version of Avatar. It's a month to base a story and I've always been in marketing and so she needed a little bit of help with of course marketing her her first book and project especially with it being faith-based at the same time. So that began my journey in interest into publishing once I got my feet wet and really learned a lot about the industry. I had several other people would come to me and say well, how can I get my book published? How can I do this since you seem to have you know, the extensive knowledge for the you know in our area which at the time was in Louisiana? So it just needs to happen organically really I started as marketing and then grew into helping other authors publish their work and along the way I learned so much and as well as connected with birth Industry professionals as well. So that really helped me. Oh, wow, that's so awesome. And I'm from Louisiana myself. I'm from El born and raised, honey. Born and raised I think that's so awesome that from one thing it kind of catapults into other things where you're now helping people, you know, give their work out there and get them published and and and be able to partner with all these amazing Brands and things like that. I think it's so, you know, so really important the collaborative partnership that you have talked about little bit how important that is, you know, as a writer as a publisher to have Partnerships in this business Partnerships are going to be key in publishing and really in any any industry that you in I believe because one you get a chance to put your product as a grin in front of the eyes of their followers and vice versa. So you get to the opportunity to gain a new following right but also having that connection if it's something that you don't know or wage Person that you don't know any to get in touch with that network if it's strong could really support you and you can do the same thing. There's so many opportunities that can help grow your business or bring your business to scale through Partnerships that it's it is truly critical that you began forging those relationships pretty much as soon as you begin entrepreneurship and I cannot say that enough to entrepreneurs especially women entrepreneurs. There is no competition here like we need to collaborate and we need to partnership more for me. It'd be more fun. I mean it's less work and it's a build of true Brands three brands whatever. However many people collaborate together is very important those relationships sometimes, you know, put you in other spaces. Then you never ever thought you would be in but you're able to get there because you have this relationship. I got a relationship with April April knows this person able to gain wage person. Like we don't see the longevity of relationships. We see them just as surface. We don't see later on down the line. Although they have to be genuine, you know, like say that but we don't see how sometimes people are connected by other people that really helped bridges over to other areas in our lives. Exactly. Yeah, I agree. Okay. So tell me about your life Journey like what were some you know obstacles you face, but what were those triumphs those those things that we celebrate about it? Yeah. So for me, the ultimate mission for me was just to create a platform right because I know that especially for people of color like myself and in others that we have a story that needs to be dead. I'll transfer the Next Generation. So in doing that I was willing to work with anyone who had a passion or interest in writing for me. I learned early on that that was one of the greatest obstacles because although the passion is there to tell the story and to you know, everybody loves to have that name in lights and have fandom and things like that. The problem is that they didn't know how to Market are really hustle their brand and product and so, you know people got so caught up with saying well, I'm a published author. I have a book out that they forgot that the real work begins with a book. It's the Shelf, you know, you have marketed you have to you know position yourself in front of your audience so that they will want to buy from you in in or Forge a relationship with you. And so packaging authors the importance of constantly marketing their brand consistently creating content has been the biggest struggle for me. Sometimes there's there was some pushback of course wage. Cuz I'm a Virgo. So of course I am all all hands on deck. We we went to the Project's done type of person. So I think that that could be a little bit much for some people but need the proof is in the pudding the more consistent you are in the more work that you put towards your product the more successful you will you will become and so that has really been the one and only obstacle that I faced anything else just take it as a lesson and keep on pushing right and I think when we begin to see them that way like when people ask me, you know will say well what are some you know, Faith years are opportunities or obstacles that you face and I say well, I don't see them as negative things. I see them. I see failure as an opportunity. Actually. That means that hey Keisha, you need to go back to the drawing board and you need to rethink that thing that you were doing because although it's a good idea how you executed. It may not be the right one or you know, like how we do Thursday. The formation of it like that may not have been the right thing like something fell along the way so it's not a failure. It's just I need to go back to the drawing board and see what else I can do differently than its Project work and make it better. So I I really love how you say that like it's not much to complain about it's it's a blessing to be on such a long-running people are still not finding it without a dream of coming out. You know what I'm saying? Like not not seeing anything beyond what they go clock in and out for every day, right? Yep. Yeah. I see that as a blessing for entrepreneurship to me is it's a blessing to be able to be a part of cuz not everybody can do this, right, so accurate. Yes. So what have you noticed? It's like a reoccurring Trends with the new Authors..
